Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome to the 2026 season. Eagles, ask Greg Cosell.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Let's get started with the man wearing the Puma hat.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Frank, go ahead. You're the man, Adam.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Hey, Greg, it's good to have you back, my friend.
- 0:24Speaker 3: What did you see from Campbell? I mean, is it
- 0:27Speaker 3: as big a drop-off as maybe the naked eye perceives?
- 0:30Speaker 3: And again, I don't want to make this an indictment
- 0:32Speaker 3: on Campbell or anything like that, but I just feel
- 0:34Speaker 3: like we really missed Dean's physical presence.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Well, first of all, it's week one. So let's put
- 0:41Speaker 1: that in perspective. We know that there's a lot of
- 0:43Speaker 1: overreaction to week one in all games, in all areas.
- 0:49Speaker 1: The way they use Dean predominantly as a rusher was
- 0:53Speaker 1: in what we call four-man sim pressures. In other words,
- 0:55Speaker 1: they weren't necessarily blitzing with five. They would use him
- 0:59Speaker 1: as part of a four-man pass rush. He'd be the
- 1:01Speaker 1: fourth rusher, and they'd drop out a defensive lineman. And
- 1:04Speaker 1: that's called either a zone exchange or a sim pressure.
- 1:08Speaker 1: We'll see if they start doing more of that with
- 1:10Speaker 1: Campbell because Campbell was a good pass rusher at Alabama.
- 1:14Speaker 1: So we'll see if that develops.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Nobody loves grilling more than me. It could be 30
- 1:19Speaker 4: degrees and I'll be out there grilling burgers and steaks.
- 1:22Speaker 4: But the one thing that I really can't stand is
- 1:24Speaker 4: losing my fish and my veggies because they just can't
- 1:28Speaker 4: grill without falling through. That's why I've been using Hexclad's
- 1:32Speaker 4: BBQ Collection. It's bringing hybrid technology together. Outdoors with products
- 1:37Speaker 4: specifically designed to make grilling easier, especially when you're cooking
- 1:41Speaker 4: foods that normally don't cooperate on a traditional grill. The
- 1:44Speaker 4: hex clad BBU grill plan combines the searing power of
- 1:48Speaker 4: stainless steel, durability of cast iron and the convenience of
- 1:52Speaker 4: nonstick all in.
- 1:53Speaker 1: One versatile grill.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Grill pan. They've also launched their new BBQ grill topper.
- 1:57Speaker 4: That gives you even more control when you're cooking delicate
- 2:00Speaker 4: foods like veggies or seafood, or if you're cooking multiple
- 2:04Speaker 4: portions at one time. Last week, I grilled the best
- 2:07Speaker 4: surf and turf my style, which is salmon and ribs
- 2:11Speaker 4: and lost none of it because I used Hexclad's BBQ collection.
- 2:15Speaker 4: With over 1 million customers and more than 50,000 five-star reviews,
- 2:20Speaker 4: it's clear people love cooking with Hexclad. There's a reason
- 2:23Speaker 4: Gordon Ramsay uses Hexclad at his home and in his restaurants,
- 2:27Speaker 4: and he's the toughest critic on the planet. So if
- 2:29Speaker 4: you're planning on spending time behind the grill this summer,
- 2:31Speaker 4: don't make it harder than it needs to be. Stop
- 2:34Speaker 4: losing food through the grates and upgrade your backyard cooking
- 2:37Speaker 4: setup with Hexclad's BBQ collection. For a limited time only,

- 2:55Speaker 4: let them know we sent you. Hey, I'm somebody who
- 2:57Speaker 4: likes to work out. I get to the gym at
- 2:59Speaker 4: least three times a week. I try to focus on
- 3:01Speaker 4: certain muscle groups, my arms, my legs. And it used
- 3:04Speaker 4: to be really frustrating for me to find jeans that
- 3:08Speaker 4: fit someone like myself who likes to work out. Sometimes
- 3:11Speaker 4: those jeans can be awkward and tight and you're sitting
- 3:14Speaker 4: in a chair and you're constantly pulling at your jeans,
- 3:17Speaker 4: trying to get them to fit you. Sometimes it feels
- 3:19Speaker 4: like you have to buy jeans that make you choose
- 3:22Speaker 4: between your waist or your thighs. But thankfully, I found
- 3:26Speaker 4: the perfect jean. It's different from all other jean companies,
- 3:31Speaker 4: especially for guys with athletic builds. They actually let me
- 3:34Speaker 4: move like a normal human being. I can bend down
- 3:36Speaker 4: and tie my shoes. I can squat to pick up
- 3:39Speaker 4: something without feeling restricted. I can actually do a full squat,
- 3:42Speaker 4: you know, bending down to pick something up without feeling
- 3:45Speaker 4: like I'm about to blow gas. You know, the old
- 3:48Speaker 4: standard jean sizing, it wasn't designed to fit guys who
- 3:51Speaker 4: squat or deadlift, play sports, or just do anything that
- 3:54Speaker 4: actually builds your legs. But the Perfect Jeans is designed
- 3:58Speaker 4: for just that, for guys like me. Perfect Jeans has
- 4:01Speaker 4: six fits. It includes the athletic fit, the slim, the thick,
- 4:04Speaker 4: and the thick thick. Specifically built around the reality that
- 4:08Speaker 4: legs and waist fit. Don't always scale together. Right now,
- 4:11Speaker 4: our listeners get 15% off their first order plus free
- 4:14Speaker 4: shipping at theperfectgene.nyc or Google The Perfect Gene and use
- 4:20Speaker 4: code BIRDS15 for 15% off. That's 15% off first order
- 4:26Speaker 4: plus free shipping at theperfectgene.nyc or just Google The Perfect
- 4:30Speaker 4: Gene and use code BIRDS15 for 15% off.
- 4:34Speaker 5: So funny, you just brought up who I was going
- 4:37Speaker 5: to talk about.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I've seen, I think it was Baldy.
- 4:45Speaker 5: He broke down the Washington's line and how good they
- 4:49Speaker 5: did against our line. And he showed Carter losing a lot.
- 4:56Speaker 5: So to your eye, not.
- 5:00Speaker 1: To my eye, it looked really bad.
- 5:03Speaker 5: To your eye, did it look that he got dominated?
- 5:06Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I mean, not every snap. Look, look, there's a lot
- 5:10Speaker 1: of snaps in a game. Nothing happens on every snap.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I don't want people listening to think that I'm talking
- 5:15Speaker 1: about 60 snaps Jalen Carter got dominated. But I was
- 5:19Speaker 1: talking specifically on some pass rush snaps where they clearly
- 5:23Speaker 1: allowed Cosby to block him one-on-one and Carter could not
- 5:26Speaker 1: get beyond the line of scrimmage.
- 5:28Speaker 2: So I'm wondering if you mentioned, I think on your
- 5:32Speaker 2: breakdown with these guys, that you were really impressed with
- 5:35Speaker 2: with Jalen Hurts. I was. Obviously, I don't evaluate these guys,
- 5:39Speaker 2: but I thought the same thing about Hurts, that he
- 5:42Speaker 2: just– From watching the other games earlier that looked like
- 5:48Speaker 2: everybody had just woken up, some of them looked like
- 5:50Speaker 2: they had just gotten off a 24-hour plane ride, he
- 5:52Speaker 2: looked very comfortable. Can you just get a little more
- 5:56Speaker 2: into that? He just seemed like he knew where to
- 6:01Speaker 2: go with the ball. He did run out of the
- 6:03Speaker 2: pocket sometimes, but he didn't seem like he was just
- 6:05Speaker 2: bailing out recklessly like he'd done in the past. Just
- 6:09Speaker 2: love to hear more thoughts about that.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yeah, just as a general point, which is not an
- 6:13Speaker 1: X and O point, he just looked comfortable and in command.
- 6:16Speaker 1: There was no random sense to his play, which we've
- 6:18Speaker 1: seen in the past, where it looked like, and he
- 6:20Speaker 1: could still make plays doing that because he's got a
- 6:22Speaker 1: certain talent level, particularly when he moves. But he looked
- 6:26Speaker 1: really comfortable in this game. He saw things the right way.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I did not see one play where I thought he
- 6:32Speaker 1: should have turned it loose and he didn't.
- 6:34Speaker 2: What was your evaluation of Makuba and Epps as safeties
- 6:39Speaker 2: during the game?
- 6:41Speaker 1: They played solid. They weren't really tested a lot. You know,
- 6:43Speaker 1: the past game for the commanders was not, you know,
- 6:48Speaker 1: great by any means. And, you know, Daniels until really
- 6:52Speaker 1: later in the game was kind of, he was caught
- 6:55Speaker 1: up in breaking down. He didn't see it real well.
- 6:58Speaker 1: And so there weren't a lot of, they really didn't
- 7:00Speaker 1: get tested.
- 7:01Speaker 6: What is, in your experience, something in week one that
- 7:05Speaker 6: if you see it, maybe you should keep an eye
- 7:08Speaker 6: on it.
- 7:09Speaker 1: You're seeing more quarterbacks line up under center. That's a
- 7:13Speaker 1: big trend that now is taking place for a number
- 7:16Speaker 1: of reasons. Number one, the run game is becoming a
- 7:19Speaker 1: bigger deal because more teams, and this we've talked about
- 7:21Speaker 1: over the last couple of years, more teams are playing
- 7:24Speaker 1: foundationally out of a too high shell safety structure. So
- 7:28Speaker 1: what that means is that there's one less player as
- 7:32Speaker 1: a gap defender in the run game for the defense.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Because if you play with a single high safety, then
- 7:38Speaker 1: the other safety is down in the box. And you
- 7:40Speaker 1: have that added gap defender. So now, if you don't
- 7:44Speaker 1: have that added gap defender, the run game becomes a
- 7:47Speaker 1: little more difficult to deal with.
- 7:49Speaker 7: I'm surprised no one's talked about the offensive line.
- 7:54Speaker 8: Go for it.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So.
- 7:57Speaker 7: I saw a lot of what we saw last year,
- 7:59Speaker 7: Barkley getting hit in the backfield before he could get moving.
- 8:04Speaker 7: Is that more scheme or is that personnel and which
- 8:10Speaker 7: personnel need to pick it up? I know Dickerson's probably
- 8:13Speaker 7: out for a while, but it can't be just one guy.
- 8:18Speaker 7: And the other thing is I wanted to comment on Wicks.
- 8:22Speaker 7: Two great plays and then they weren't able to get
- 8:25Speaker 7: the ball back to him, I don't think. So is
- 8:29Speaker 7: that more because Jalen just didn't have time to throw?
- 8:33Speaker 1: So that's it. They didn't have a lot of dropbacks
- 8:36Speaker 1: in this game. This was not, you know, a high-volume
- 8:39Speaker 1: passing game. And the nature of this offense is that
- 8:43Speaker 1: it's not necessarily geared to one particular player. So I
- 8:47Speaker 1: wouldn't put a lot of stock in that after week one.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And by the way, Wicks, as we said, wasn't even
- 8:52Speaker 1: the primary receiver on the 64-yarder, but he was on
- 8:56Speaker 1: the nine-yard touchdown. But, yeah, so I wouldn't put a
- 8:59Speaker 1: lot of stock in that, you know, in terms of
- 9:01Speaker 1: who had targets week one. It was the first week
- 9:04Speaker 1: of the season. There were, you know, Hurts only dropped back, what, 27,
- 9:08Speaker 1: 28 times. It was not a high-volume passing game.
- 9:11Speaker 8: My thing was watching Jalen. I agree with what Chris
- 9:16Speaker 8: had to say. I thought that was one of his
- 9:19Speaker 8: better games of all time. His understanding– of what the
- 9:24Speaker 8: offense is supposed to be. I don't think a lot
- 9:27Speaker 8: of people define that for him from the OC spot.
- 9:31Speaker 8: And that's just a total guesstimate on my side. Because
- 9:35Speaker 8: we're not there.
- 9:36Speaker 1: We're not there. And I'm sure it has been. I mean,
- 9:39Speaker 1: that's what coaches do. But now it comes down to
- 9:43Speaker 1: how it's taught. Just like when we're growing up in school,
- 9:45Speaker 1: some teachers are better than others. It's not that the
- 9:47Speaker 1: teacher who's not as good doesn't know the subject. They
- 9:50Speaker 1: might not be able to explain it in a way that,
- 9:52Speaker 1: you know, that it makes sense to you.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Greg, I wanted to ask you about, specifically, Cooper DeGene,
- 10:00Speaker 6: Do you think his added size, I know he kind
- 10:03Speaker 6: of bulked up a little bit in the offseason. Do
- 10:05Speaker 6: you think that plays kind of played a little bit
- 10:07Speaker 6: of a role in how he played? Obviously, it's just
- 10:09Speaker 6: one game.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But look, as a zone player and a match player
- 10:13Speaker 1: and an awareness player, he's elite. The question is, if
- 10:17Speaker 1: they do play a lot of man, can he do
- 10:19Speaker 1: that on a week-to-week basis?
- 10:20Speaker 4: As I've gotten older, I've really tried to concentrate on
- 10:23Speaker 4: my physical health, my body, making sure I'm putting the
- 10:26Speaker 4: right things in and the healthiest things in. I've always
- 10:29Speaker 4: heard about creatine, but I wasn't really sure about using
- 10:33Speaker 4: creatine supplements until I did the research to find out
- 10:36Speaker 4: what it was really all about. That's when I found Momentus,
- 10:39Speaker 4: which created Signature Spec Creatine, their most advanced creatine ever.
- 10:45Speaker 4: setting a new standard for creatine quality. It's one of
- 10:48Speaker 4: the only creatines to be manufactured in a pharmaceutical facility
- 10:52Speaker 4: using reverse osmosis water purification and verified through an expanded
- 10:57Speaker 4: six stage testing process with four independent agencies. They've improved
- 11:01Speaker 4: the product experience with ultra fine powder that mixes effortlessly
- 11:07Speaker 4: with no grit or clumping. Hey, look, I like a
- 11:09Speaker 4: good creatine shake in the afternoon and it's got to
- 11:12Speaker 4: taste good and be smooth. The benefits of creatine are
- 11:15Speaker 4: very real. It supports strength, power, lean muscle growth, recovery,
- 11:20Speaker 4: and even improve cognitive performance. And as I get older,
- 11:24Speaker 4: all of those things are so much more important to
- 11:26Speaker 4: me than they used to be. If you want to
