- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm fine.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: I'm fine.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: It's out of my system.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: I had a f I had a feeling that that might have happened.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: So it's like We are so cute.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Oh my God.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Oh my God.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Go ahead.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: So this week it was my choice of film for my choice of movie to pick.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: It's a film.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: It's a film.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: But you haven't seen it.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen it yet.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: Me either.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: So yeah, so this one I I purchased uh bought it used uh just based off of the trailer.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: So that was pretty much what I was going off of and the cast.
- 1:00SPEAKER_02: And so the movie we're gonna watch is Before I Go to Sleep.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: So this was made in 2014.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: And stars Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, Mark Strong.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: Um are the they are the the what I would call like the core.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: And then there's a bunch of supporting, you know, the people I run.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: Um it is written and directed by Rowan Joffey, I think is how you say his name.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Not a hundred percent on the pronunciation of that.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Um but uh I was looking up like other stuff um that he's done, and it's like he wrote the film The American, which was with George Clooney uh 28 weeks later.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: So done a few things.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Uh not like a really person that I've I've known a lot of a lot of the work though.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: Um, so but yeah, um never seen it before.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Um, I know a little bit about it, and that's what I would just from the trailers and from the brief IMDB description.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: Um, but I don't even know if I want to tell you that much.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I'm assuming this is a drama.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Is that kind of your feel for it?
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: So I'll give you an how do they categorize So yeah, so the categories on IMDb, first one psychological thriller, uh, tragedy, drama, mystery, and thriller.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm thinking, yeah.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: And even with the title, I would like, yeah, that makes sense.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: But it's got but with the three main actors that are in it, you know, we've seen them in a lot of stuff.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: And I was thinking, like, you know, with even with you know, Cole Kidman, we saw her do um uh uh the um oh gosh, I just had it.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: Uh the one where she's she's a ghost, but then she thinks that her house is home on about the others.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: The others, yeah.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: I think that's what it's called.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: And of course a bunch of other things, a bunch of other things too.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: No, I'm not a super big, I guess a big fan of Nicole Kidman.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: I just I have seen some of her work.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's not like I avoid it or anything like that.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: So this will be interesting because um to see her as a yeah, she's a main character.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Well, everything I've seen her in, she's a main character.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: I would say out of the three, you've probably seen more Colin Firth than than the other two.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'm not a super big fan of his either, so it's like, okay.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: And again, it's not like I don't like him, it's just like I'm not drawn to his movies.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: I like Mark Strong.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: I think that almost anything that he does is great, and especially if it's funny, because he has this like big intimidating, you know, presence.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: And when he does when he does something that's funny, it it's like Vinny Jones.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Like when Vinny Jones says something funny, it's like this isn't funny.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, this is not funny.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: But I but perhaps he is more of a gives a little lightness to it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Cause I mean that's kind of what he can do.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: I I was kind of j in the trailers, it doesn't look like there's a lot of lightness throughout the whole thing.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: So it looks pretty dramatic, like straight through.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Um, but it's supposed but I'm assuming there's gonna be twists and then there's gonna be turns and stuff.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, I mean it's it it definitely looks interesting, definitely w looks worth a watch.
- 4:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: You know, um, whether or not, you know, we decide that I'm gonna even enjoy it or keep it, you know, or something like that.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah, you'll probably keep it, but whether you'll watch it many more times.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: It it has to be really bad for me to actually have bought it and then want to get rid of it because I didn't like it.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: I mean, totally.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: With me, I'm pretty much like, you know, I I get rid of a lot of them.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Um I I have a small area and I don't like to outgrow my area.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Oh, there you go.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: So which is good for me because otherwise it would go crazy and I don't have room for that.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: So, you know.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: But for me, I have my area that's expanded areas.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you just keep them and that's fine.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: But but you know, that is if one is like total, like I will never watch this was horrible, then you would like pass it on.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: Which I which I have, I have a couple that um that I do have that I'm I'm getting rid of that are just there's no way I would ever watch it.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: And one I actually stopped watching in the middle of it and have never finished it.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: And it's like I'm getting rid of it.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: It was so bad.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it you know, but we all have our you know, our things, you know, whether we want to watch them or not.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: And well, and that's like when people ask me, like, like oh, like, oh, you do the podcast, so what's your what's your favorite movie?
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, Oh, we know my favorite.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I can't, I can't answer that.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: It depends what day it is.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: What day is it today?
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Today, my favorite movie is Black.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: And I was like, you're not even gonna break it down by genre or you know, by the decade or something.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: Give me something to break it down by.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: You know.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, I can tell you, like, yeah, there's certain genres I will not watch another musical again in my I've seen enough.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: I've seen enough to know I've seen enough.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Or I've heard enough.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I don't want to hear any more.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: And someone asked me, it's like, what's wrong?
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: You know, as a young person asking me, you know, like, what's wrong with the musicals?
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: And they just break out into song and dance in the middle of this whatever.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: It's just weird.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: It's just I've done that's not but and and you know, we grew up, you know, when we were when I was younger, we had musicals that were we had on tape.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: We had uh singing in the rain, we had uh Sound of Music.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: You can't pay me to watch that ever again.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Sorry, Mom.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Right, yeah, exactly.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Um but I know all the words to all the songs because I've heard them a million times.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: South Pacific, you know, it's like we've seen there's the worst.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: So they're you know that in Oklahoma.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: God, who wants to?
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: No way.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: You yeah, that's okay.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I mean that's the thing, like it's not like you've avoided them forever, but it's just something that's like, you know, it's and then then when they came up with the animated stuff and there's songs in there where they're just like breaking out and singing, and it just kind of irks me.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: It's kind of I don't really need it.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: But okay.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: And that's the thing, like you can do you can they can do a great animated film without breaking out in the song.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: And it's like absolutely, you know.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: You don't toys, you know, a toy story.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, they have great songs, and you know, Randy Duman, but right the toys aren't singing it, you know, it's in the background.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: It's like moving this moving the storyline along while you're watching it.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: It's not watching them sing.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Right, exactly.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Most boring thing.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Watch someone sing.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Think about it.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Think about it.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Why are you watching someone sing?
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Now, if you're watching a live performance, that'd be different.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Even then, it can be boring.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: If they don't if if it's not entertaining, it's like what?
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, it would have to be entertaining.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Well, for me, it's well, I'm getting off on a tangent.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I know, uh, you know, it's me like going to the symphony.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Why am I watching this?
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: I could be in the very bad, I could be blind and go to the symphony.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: I'd get the same amount out of it.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, pretty much it's the music, you're listening to it.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: You're not there's nothing to watch.
- 8:23SPEAKER_02: You're you're going there for the listening experience.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just close your eyes.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean, I I saw Yo-Yo Ma with the symphony, it was fabulous because you know, there was like a voice coming out of that instrument.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And it was because you could hear it, not because you could see him.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: So anyway, okay.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: All right, we're off that.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, we're back to the movie.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Uh at least it's not a musical.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: That ain't gonna happen.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: As far as we know.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe you'll pick one.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: We've had nothing to indicate that this is a musical, so that's true.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: But maybe down the road, maybe you'll pick one.
- 8:56SPEAKER_02: I don't know, maybe.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Maybe I I don't know.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: I can't imagine.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: But yeah, probably not.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I I wouldn't balk.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, it it's harmless, you know, it's not gonna hurt me, but it's like 10 to 1.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: I ain't gonna now we didn't we did go see a musical together though.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, I didn't even know it was a musical.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Neither did either did I.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: We found out uh what was it?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Evan says PS was it was it the was it PS Evan?
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: No, I don't think there was a PS on it, but other people are are thinking they know exactly what it is, and they're yelling at us right now.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it is because I didn't want to see it anyway.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: Well, well, we only went because we have free chicks.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: It was free, it was free, and we didn't it was decent, but it was definitely a musical.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: Dear Evan Hansen.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Dear Evan Hansen, that was it, yeah.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: In the theater, in the theater, but we went into it intentionally, we did not know anything about it, and that was that was the thing for that one is that we didn't look it up, we didn't uh watch a train, we didn't do anything, we just went.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: It was free.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: It was free.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: I mean, I lived through it, but it's like never gonna watch it again.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: It was funny because I it was uh so they break out into the lead song, it was which was the which was very beginning, and then you lean up to me and go, I think this is a musical.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: I was like, Oh, I guess it is.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, get ready.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: I got I do have to say, like, in that musical, the talent of the singing was top-notch.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, absolutely.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: It's not like people don't have talent that are doing the singing, they do.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: No, I just uh no, it does it just doesn't float my boat.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: So that's all that's all I'm saying.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: That's right, that's right.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: All right, well, we are gonna dive in and watch Before I Go to Sleep.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: A non-musical.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: A non-musical.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Definitely thriller.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: We're gonna dive in and then we'll come back a little bit talk about it.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: All right, we will be back in a little while.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: All right, everybody, welcome back.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: We just got done watching Before I Go to Sleep.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: And even though neither one of us has seen this since it was my choice, I'll let you take us away on this one.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I liked it.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Um I liked I like the acting, I liked the simplicity of the scenes, as far as like you know, it was very simple.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: It's in the house, it's outside the house, it's in, you know, so nothing complicated.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's for sure.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, it had a twist.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Um I didn't know which way it was gonna go.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, for a minute I was thinking, oh no, that's the way.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: And then for the next minute it's like, no, that's the way, you know.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: Um I kept I kept thinking, I'm like, maybe there's gonna be one final twist.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: At the very end, even at the very end.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was wondering.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: I was wondering.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: I was trying to, you know, like somebody's outside the door and it's like, do you think she believes it?
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: You know, something weird.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: You know, but um I was waiting for it to be uh the doctor and uh her friend.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Uh going like, you know, just kind of like you're like, she bought it again, or you know, or something or something.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah, I think that would have kind of hurt, but I mean that's a way to go.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, it really is.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: You can keep on twisting if you want.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: It ended very softly.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: It really did for such a for especially because it's like we had like some very serious, very dramatic, you know, life and tense, yeah.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: And then wondering and thinking.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: That's why I think we're we're expecting it to be more of a a harder twist or something at the end.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: But that's a choice not to, yeah, to kind of like give it kind of like um an easy ending.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, an easy ending, and just not like walking out going what happened, what happens next, you know?
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: It didn't because it didn't leave it open-ended, it really wrapped it all up.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: It really did, and that was a choice just to do it that way.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: But I uh it it's it's a comfort, right?
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: It is, and that kind of takes the edge off.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, some people creating a movie, they want to keep it edgy all the way through.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Of course, you know, never let you go.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: Um it's almost like the it kind of like it was holding you and holding you, and then at the end it just kind of l let you go.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Released you from it.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: And it's just like, no, it's okay.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: Which I kind of feel like is kind of it's symbolic to what she was going through, where it's like at by the end of the film, then she's finally she's gonna be able to be herself again.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: And then suddenly because she's let go and she's free again.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: So I think that that w that intentionally it was set up that we feel the same thing for kind of like going through the same kind of emotions.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: I thought it was really well put together.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Um and yeah, I I I mean I really enjoyed it.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: It was tense and it was like shocking, and I didn't know what was gonna happen next, kind of thing.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Um with Colin Perthwick, because quick to anger.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he did that well.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 14:10SPEAKER_02: Because you were it was like you're like all or like okay, he's you know, he's not a great guy, but he's not really bad.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: And then all of a sudden, like, oh he's bad.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like the first time he hit her, that was like wow, that was that was really filmed very well, and it was acted very well, and it was shocking.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's like ooh, well, what you what's going on?
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: What's happening?
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it's um well, and then the hotel confrontation as well, too.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that was that was just creepy, and he was creepy, it just kept getting creepier and creepier, and going, Oh my god, he's going down that rabbit hole, isn't he?
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: I I do have a critical thing of about that fight sequence.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Okay in no universe is the iron kept on the floor of the closet.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: In in the in the hotel.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: In the hotel.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, never.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: If you're crawling, no.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: It's up, it's always up.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: It's up on a shelf, it's up on a holder.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's usually up on a holder.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Usually a holder, right?
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: But it's always up, it's never, ever, ever down.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: No, and that's why I was thinking, I'm like, I'm like, I wish, I kind of wish they would have had something like she gets kind of thrown into it and it gets knocked down and then it's there for her to grab.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: You want that logic of why is it down on the floor?
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I'm like, I'm like, no, that that that that doesn't make much sense.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Now if she would have found like a like a a coat hanger that had like fallen down, yeah.
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: That would make sense.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you would have to have like more of a you know, some kind of incident within the clo near the closet and something's happening.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Or or you know, even that he like throws her into the closet, yeah, you know, and you know, and she like falls into it and she reaches up and she just she can grab it.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, then that makes sense, yeah.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: That's so that would it wouldn't just be laying there.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: No.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: Well, and it wasn't even laying there, it was propped up, it was cord wrapped up, like it was like somebody had finished using it, wrapped it up, and then set it down.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: And that's why I was like, you know, you never you would never in a million years ever do that.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: It's like if the person used it, they wouldn't do that.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: If they were if like the hotel staff cleaning, they're not gonna do that.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: No.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: So that that was that's that's a little I I I I really didn't think of it that way, but that that you totally got a point.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Got that.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: So that was that was one little little thing, like when she's like, unless there could have been something else in there.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: That's what I was trying to think about.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: But you know, when when you first check into a hotel, there's really not much in the closet.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Well, that's what I was thinking, like if there was a hanger or something.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: Something maybe like if it would been left over from somebody else that the maid that the maids wouldn't have picked up.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Like somebody had something on a hanger, the hanger fell off, it's on the floor in the closet.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: But but would that have done enough damage to like help her get away?
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: Get like a a wooden hanger, you know, something with some heath behind it, and just like whack, you know, and then it's like be able to you know do the do what's good.
- 17:13SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: It was just un Yeah.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: And of course, you know, stylistic choice, you know, editing choice, you know, whatever, you know, million choices go into the case.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: I really wanted her to find a bottle and smash him in the head, actually.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Well, that's that would have been that would have been really nice.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: That would have been you know poetic.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: But you know, that did not happen.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: But no, yeah, I thought I thought the tension was uh they held it for me.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Um you know, and uh and even though I know it's like a thriller, it has twists and stuff, it's not painful.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: It's not the painful twist like oh, I don't think it can handle this anymore.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: This scene is going on too long, or you know, this this mystery is going on too long.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: It didn't do that for me.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: I thought it was it was it the timing and the pacing was just right for me.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: And it it kind of for me, it had um kind of like uh memento, like another another film we know that we love about memory loss.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: And and it kind of had a little bit of that into it a little bit um with not the internal dialogue part of it from Memento.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Um but it was so but yeah, and then it's like how do you solve a mystery of yourself when you don't when you can't remember, you know?
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: So and then yeah, so that was that was very uh a big crossover thing for that of trying to investigate yourself and trying to figure figure out your own mystery.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, it's I thought it was I thought it was a great twist of that it wasn't her husband.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: I I I thought that was great.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: I was like, that was that was that was really, really, really good.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Um and then the fact that of all the stuff he had been lying to her about about her son, you know, yeah, because of all the people that that were coming in her life, you're wondering who's who's lying to her.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: You know somebody's lying.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: And yeah, because at first you assume that you think it's the doctor, and you're like, okay, so he's trying to he's you know, may either he with the one that attacked her or manipulating her or doing something.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: You know, like what's his part in this?
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: He's he's not who he says he is, kind of thing.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: And then it's you know, because that's the whole thing.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: You you know there's people there that because she doesn't have uh the memory, that there there can be people in her life that you know they could pretend to be whatever they want to be.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: You just didn't know who was who and why.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 19:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you don't know what their motives are, you don't know what they're doing, you don't know if they're actually good or bad, and you know.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: And I was thinking the same thing like with her friend.
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: It's like, okay, but do we actually know that it is her?
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: Do we know that it's her friend?
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: How do we know this person's not staged?
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: It's not somebody that some kind of planted a memory kind of thing.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: And I thought maybe like, okay, the photographs were doctored, and it was her husband had set up this woman to be like, okay, you're gonna be her friend, this is what you're gonna say, this is what you're gonna do, and all that, which totally could have happened in this film.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Right, right, yeah, because there were many ways of of kind of piecing this together.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: However, right, the director decided who wanted to go and the writers wanted it to go.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but no, I thought they they they made a lot of good choices.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Um, and and you know, that's that is with the movie too.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: You gotta make the choices.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: You gotta go one way or the other.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: I think I have seen movies where it's like, this movie has no direction.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: So I went in the what are you doing?
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: So story arcs or anything.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I think that is probably a good director who understands the material um to like, well, you know, there's many ways we can go.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: We're going this way.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I and I like that, you know, when you get those where it's like you you have multiple ways of going, and it's like, and you're not really sure which way the story's gonna go.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: I like that.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: I don't really like it a lot when it's like as you're starting the film, you pretty much know how it's gonna end.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Just like they don't show your hand right away.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: You know, that's that's that's I think the art of making a a good film like this is just not showing showing enough to keep you interested, and kind of and kind of like showing you things in a different way.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: You're not quite sure.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: But yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: So my so my whole thing, so at first when you're finding out that Colin Farrh's character is not her husband, and then I was thinking back where it's like he had the scene in the kitchen where he was they were talking about their son and he shed a tear.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: And then I was thinking, I'm like, is he that psychotic that he did that?
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Now it's either that or he was thinking that this has gone on for so long, it keeps building up and building up that he's living.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: This lie, and then it finally just got and that's why and that's why he shed the tear, you know, because it was just it was building everything was just building up so much for him.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or almost knowing that she's learning too much.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: She's she's finding out and and I'm he probably did imagine somebody's helping her.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Well, and then she admitted it with you know that with the doctor, and then he just like exploded.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's when he went off.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Showed his true colors.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: So now him taking her back to the original hotel room where everything happened at and then he said, like, oh, you know, we're gonna leave out of here and we're gonna be, you know, Christine and Mike, you know, not Christine and Ben.
- 22:47SPEAKER_01: And it's like and that whole thing.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: I was just like that's really weird.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Well, it kind of shows how insane he real his character really is, right?
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: And how controlling, oh yeah, and how um, you know, he he could have almost pulled it off because you know, yeah, but she was starting to remember too much.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: But but then but then unless he was just gonna you're not gonna live getting out of this room anyway.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: So yeah, yeah.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: I didn't kill you before, but I can do it now.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: And because I I think that he was realizing that, like, okay, she's talking to these people and bringing back and memories are starting to come back a little bit and doing this, then it's like he's gotta know, like, okay, if I bring her here, the memories are gonna come back, including the memories that happened there.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: And it's like, and that was when he was like the most evil.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: And it's like, okay, if you're really in this whole manip manipulating her and controlling her and you know, doing all this stuff, it's like, why would you bring her there so she could remember it?
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: And I was just like, I think he just brought her there to kill her, just to kill her, yeah.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: That's what I was thinking.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: I was like, Yeah, that's like this whole thing of like, oh, we're gonna walk out here together, and then I was thinking, I'm like, that's a load of crap.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: I was like, No, and it's like she knows it too, and she feels it.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: It's like, no, don't I think you know, but yeah, I mean, if he could hurt her that bad the first time around, he could kill her and make it look like something else too, you know, like he did the first time.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: So now, okay, I'm trying to figure this out though.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: So she's she's in the hotel room for the first attack when he does he does all that stuff to her.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: She's found later in the yard of the the mannequin warehouse near the airport.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: Which is near the hotel.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 24:47SPEAKER_02: But how did she get, you know, or I don't know.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to figure out like if he did that much to her, why would he let her be able to leave?
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: And then it's like, but wait, did he think she was gonna die and then dump her body?
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: I think that's what I'm saying.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: I I think he was just just trying to get rid of it, just rid of her.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: That that's kind of what I was thinking that that's you know, and and probably not expecting her to live.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: You know, with that much blood loss and that, you know.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then it's like, oh, she is living.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Okay, so then there's stuff I can do.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: But yeah, yeah, I mean, that's just like pretty evil thinking about people that you know, i could this really be a person that would do that, you know.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: But I mean, you know, there are people that are very controlling and manipulating and keep people and keep them under their control.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: And even at the even at the end where he was still controlling and he was still, you know, getting that over her.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, I hated him so bad.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: That's how you know he was a good actor.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: Oh god, I know.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: I was like, wow, he he did that really well, and I think that's part of it too, um with um people that do manipulate you.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: And um because they can they flip-flop from one second you think they they really like you or love you, and the next second they're like hitting you.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: And they're they're hurting you.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: And and the when he would hit her and then blame her and say, It's your fault.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: You're too full of things.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: And that is like so.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: So can Oh, that's a hundred percent it.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: So they so they got a lot of the dialogue really correct and a lot of the actions really correct.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: I think you know, there might be some people who would watch this and kind of have a lot of triggers actually.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: I a hundred percent would believe that.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: Because it it feels it felt kind of real.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: When if anybody's gone through a really, really bad domestic violence stuff, I can definitely see that being a trigger.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you gotta be careful, watch this with somebody.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: Um, because yeah, I to me anyway, it just felt real because it just comes out of the blue.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: And that's and that's exactly where it's like, and because like with Colin Ferrell, Colin First's presence, you could see like before he struck her that he was upset.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: But you don't see like you don't physical.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't see that.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: And then all of a sudden it happened, and it's just like be upset and break down and cry or something.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: To to to s lash out like that.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: I was like, whoa, baby.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Which uh yeah, which was great on I mean, which was great on the director and the cinematographer and everything to be able to hold us in that moment of like, oh yeah, we you know, we don't really think he's gonna oh my god, and that boom.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: It was shocking.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's yeah, so yeah.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: So I think I think a lot of the domestic violence part of it was pretty true to life.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Um and I and for some people might be too real.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because it definitely felt it definitely hit and that's the thing, the fights felt real.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: It didn't feel over the top, but it didn't feel like you know, this was way out of the realm, out of the realm of possibility.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: It's like no, no, it felt very real.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: It felt, you know, when I mean, and really when they were fighting in that hotel room, it's like she's totally trapped.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: And it's like it was it.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, I felt just as trapped as she was supposed to.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, so they they really did get you as far as the feelings.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they wanted you to feel this way.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: Yep, I felt that way.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: They took me there.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe it wouldn't take everybody there, but it took me there.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: It definitely did, yeah.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: You definitely felt that trapped.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: And then the just the in the middle of the fight where it's like you're improvising, you're trying to do whatever you can do, grab whatever you can grab to try to try and get away.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: So I mean, I just yeah, I just it was it was very intense.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: It is really was.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: It was it was well portrayed, but yeah, very intense, very real.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: I and I mean I I like the set um of the house, you know, I like that a lot.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: Um, and I like that, you know, they set up that she's going through the same the same routine every day because you know, she doesn't because she doesn't have her memory from the previous day.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: And I like that they didn't have to fully take you through every moment of that every single time.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: They could give you a little snippet of letting you know the day's restarting.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was almost like, you know, um, you know, not insulting your intelligence.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: You know, that yeah, you you get it.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: It's not complicated.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: You get it.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna show it this way, we're gonna do it that we're gonna keep it moving.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it didn't seem stagnant at all.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: I think if they slowed down at all, then I I would have felt a little stagnant and kind of not bored, but just, you know, move the story along.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: And I guess with these types of movies, I think I've seen some that are that way.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: It's like, okay, I get this, like what's gonna happen?
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: And I gotta wait too long.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: Don't make me wait too long.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: And I don't think this movie did.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: I think I think it just held you just long enough and then it it it did keep moving.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it it definitely it definitely kept moving, kept kept at a good pace, uh, kept you interested.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: And yeah, every time you didn't know, you know, is she gonna remember everything?
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: Is she not gonna remember some things?
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: It's like what's gonna come back, you know, what's she gonna show herself that she's gonna re-remember and stuff.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: So it's like so yeah, I like that it was it was a constant mystery on like what was gonna what was gonna happen and what and what was true.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: And that was that was a big thing about this of just who to trust, who you know, who is she gonna trust?
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Because she would initially just like, oh, that's her husband.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Yes, she she's gonna trust her husband.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, and then she's finding these videos of herself saying, Don't trust him.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: You know, it's like, okay, then it's like you don't have a lot of people in your life, you know.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, it's very it was very it was intriguing and I enjoyed it.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: And yeah, yeah, I thought it was a really well made movie.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I thought so too.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: I thought it was really well done.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: All right, I guess we'll go and wrap this one up.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Thank you everybody for listening.
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Make sure you go check out before I go to sleep.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: And until next time, I'm Barry.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: And I'm Robin.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: And we will talk to you guys later.
