- 0:12Hello friends. Sean, here it is Monday.
- 0:15It's the beginning of a new week and you have invited me in to
- 0:19your routine. Thank you so much friend.
- 0:22It's so good to be here with you virtually because, well today
- 0:27more than other days, I'm not actually quite as with you as
- 0:30otherwise would be. Because this week my eldest and
- 0:34I and A friend, we are headed far, far, far into the southwest
- 0:39corner of Tasmania to hike all the way back out.
- 0:41And this is a 7 day hike slash adventure slash terrifying
- 0:46proposition that we are undertaking.
- 0:49So I have gotten a little bit ahead of time and recorded the
- 0:53podcast for this week before I've left.
- 0:55So as you listen to this, think of me far away in the wild,
- 1:01massaging my feet, climbing mountains, affording rivers, and
- 1:05it will be stupendous. It will be fantastic, and I will
- 1:10tell you all about it next week. But this week is the final week,
- 1:16the final full week. I should say that we will be
- 1:18spending in Isaiah. There's just a couple more
- 1:20chapters that we will read next week.
- 1:23This is the final section of this epic journey with Isaiah.
- 1:28This is the part where God speaks to His people through
- 1:32Isaiah about what it will be like to be His people, what is
- 1:38the destiny of His servants. This will speak about grand
- 1:42forgiveness and anointing and final judgements, all wrapped up
- 1:47with what it will look like in the future for God and his
- 1:51people in the fullness of time, with today God promising to
- 1:55bring comfort and a new covenant for his people.
- 1:59So with all that being said, it is time, friend, for you and I
- 2:03to sit before the throne of the Majestic one and hear what He
- 2:07has to say to us as we read together.
- 2:10Isaiah 61 The spirit of the sovereign Lord
- 2:24is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news
- 2:28to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the
- 2:31broken hearted, and to proclaim that captives will be released
- 2:35and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who
- 2:38mourn that the time of the Lord's favour has come, and with
- 2:42it the day of God's anger against his enemies.
- 2:47To all whom mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for
- 2:51ashes, A joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise
- 2:56instead of despair in their righteousness.
- 3:00They will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for
- 3:03his own glory. They will rebuild the ancient
- 3:07ruins, repairing cities destroyed long ago.
- 3:11They will revive them, though they have been deserted for many
- 3:14generations. Foreigners will be your
- 3:17servants. They will feed your flocks and
- 3:20plough your fields and tend your vineyards.
- 3:24You will be called priests of the Lord Ministers of our God.
- 3:28He will feed on the treasures of the nations and boast in their
- 3:32riches instead of shame and dishonour.
- 3:35You will enjoy a double share of honour.
- 3:39You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your
- 3:42land, and everlasting joy will be yours.
- 3:47For I, the Lord, love justice. I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
- 3:53I will faithfully reward my people for their suffering and
- 3:57make an everlasting covenant with them.
- 3:59Their descendants will be recognized and honoured among
- 4:02the nations. Everyone will realise that they
- 4:06are a people the Lord has blessed.
- 4:09I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God, for He has dressed
- 4:15me with clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of
- 4:19righteousness. I am like a bridegroom dressed
- 4:23for his wedding or a bride with her jewels.
- 4:27The sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the
- 4:30world. Everyone will praise him.
- 4:34His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring, with
- 4:38plants springing up everywhere. You have provided for us, Lord,
- 4:55in the most extravagant way, as our King and our Saviour.
- 5:00Here we see toward the end of this reading that you have
- 5:04dressed us with clothes of salvation, draping robes of
- 5:09righteousness over us. This is not salvation that we
- 5:13have earned A righteousness that belongs to us, but it's yours.
- 5:19You smother us with these wonderful gifts of goodness.
- 5:25Thank you, Father, for your generosity shown to us, your
- 5:30children. It blows our minds that you
- 5:32would call us your children and be so generous with us.
- 5:35But we accept it and we thank you.
- 5:39Arms spread wide in gratitude and praise to you.
- 5:45And we can do all of this only through the saving name of
- 5:49Jesus. Amen.
