  I'm filling in and I'm very excited because I just watched

  episode one of NASCAR Full Speed, the new docu series on
• 0:15
  Netflix. It just dropped today.
• 0:18
  Five part series, episode 145 minutes.
• 0:23
  And just like Kenny does, I got my notes.
• 0:27
  So this episode, it's called playoffs or bust.
• 0:33
  First of all for folks, if you're a die hard NASCAR fan,
• 0:37
  you're going to love this docu series.
• 0:39
  Now I've just watched the first episode, but from what I see,
• 0:44
  you're going to love the access. The video is incredible.
• 0:49
  As somebody who worked in TV, I've worked in TV for 20 years
• 0:53
  and I edit video and the shot video and all that.
• 0:56
  The video they get, the editing they do at some point, It's an
• 1:00
  edit every second. It's just unbelievable,
• 1:04
  colorful, awesome video from all the tracks.
• 1:08
  Just ridiculous access to all the drivers, their families,
• 1:12
  their wives, parents, et cetera. Really, really cool.
• 1:16
  So if you're watching this and you're on the channel, you're a
• 1:18
  die hard NASCAR fan. I think you're really, really
• 1:21
  going to like this series. Now on the other hand, if you're
• 1:24
  just trying to get into NASCAR, or if you look at the reason
• 1:28
  NASCAR probably did this docu series, they saw what happened
• 1:32
  with Formula One, with Drive to Survive, how that blew up, and
• 1:37
  this amazing international sport, all of a sudden the last,
• 1:41
  whatever it is, five or so years gets super popular in the United
• 1:45
  States. They now have races in the
• 1:46
  United States, but a lot of it had to do with the social media
• 1:52
  access, with Netflix drive to survive.
• 1:55
  So NASCAR is obviously trying to jump on that and do the same
• 2:00
  thing. And so if you are somebody just
• 2:03
  learning about the sport, or you're a casual fan, or this is
• 2:07
  your first time you're ever looking at NASCAR, they do a
• 2:10
  really good job of, in a simplistic way, explaining
• 2:15
  what's going on with the races, the playoff system, in depth
• 2:20
  with the drivers, in depth with the crew chiefs.
• 2:23
  But it's explained in a way that if you're a novice fan, you're
• 2:26
  really going to understand. It's simple language.
• 2:30
  That's what you got to do when you're trying to explain this
• 2:33
  stuff, complicated stuff in some cases, to a new audience.
• 2:36
  But again, if you're a hardcore NASCAR fan, and I say that,
• 2:40
  don't feel like this is not for you.
• 2:41
  Oh, I I know NASCAR. I've been a fan 10:20, 30-40
• 2:45
  years. Whatever it is, there's still a
• 2:46
  ton for you. The storytelling is unbelievable
• 2:50
  in this first episode. So alright, this, this first
• 2:54
  episode, I think it's fair to call it the Denny Hamlin
• 2:56
  episode. A lot about Denny Hamlin.
• 2:59
  Also a lot about William Byron. They get to Bubba Wallace at the
• 3:04
  end of this first episode. Again, it's a five part series
• 3:07
  and then you can tell because I finished the first episode, then
• 3:11
  jumped on here to do this video, but you can tell they already
• 3:13
  get the second episode ready to go for you.
• 3:16
  That's called another gear and Bubba Wallace is the first guy
• 3:19
  who sits down. So you got to think that episode
• 3:21
  2 is going to focus a lot on Bubba Wallace.
• 3:23
  But again, this first one all about Denny Hamlin and obviously
• 3:29
  great driver. Fifty wins has never won the
• 3:32
  championship. The interesting dichotomy of him
• 3:35
  as a driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, but also an owner of
• 3:39
  2311 with Michael Jordan. And so this episode, the
• 3:44
  second-half of it basically is all about Daytona, the final
• 3:47
  race before the playoffs. So you have the cool storyline
• 3:51
  of somebody like Denny Hamlin, who's already in himself, but he
• 3:55
  has his teammate Ty Gibbs on the cut line, who's trying to make
• 4:00
  the playoffs versus his other teammate on the owner side.
• 4:04
  Of course, because with Denny owning 2311 with Michael Jordan,
• 4:08
  you have Bubba Wallace who's trying to get into the playoffs
• 4:10
  for the first time. So cool storyline right there.
• 4:14
  And you have all these interviews with the drivers, but
• 4:17
  also the the documentary is narrated from a bunch of media
• 4:22
  folks. You also have Dale Earnhardt
• 4:23
  Junior, but Marty Smith from ESPN, Shannon Spake from Fox,
• 4:28
  Steve Letart as well. They're kind of narrating it a
• 4:33
  bit as you go, but also interspersed with all of the the
• 4:38
  driver interviews and all that. So after the first part where
• 4:43
  look, you're you're at home with Denny Hamlin, you get to meet
• 4:46
  his, his daughters, cute, cute little girls.
• 4:50
  Then you have William Byron. He's just moved into a new
• 4:53
  house. He can barely move in because
• 4:55
  he's been driving all summer with the NASCAR schedule.
• 4:58
  They really get into the eye racing and they have him shown
• 5:02
  there in the seat and pictures and video of him as a kid doing
• 5:05
  the eye racing and coming up as he started to race.
• 5:07
  And you're hearing from Rick Hendrick, you're hearing from
• 5:10
  Jeff Gordon. I mean, obviously the the access
• 5:12
  that Netflix has is just crazy. Every shot is perfect.
• 5:16
  Every interview is perfect. Again, if you're a geek, when it
• 5:19
  comes to TV, video, film production, whatever it is, I
• 5:23
  mean it's just freaking top notch content.
• 5:27
  So look, they get into the drivers, they get into the crew
• 5:31
  chiefs, you have Denny's crew chief Chris Gabehart basically
• 5:36
  explaining what's going on through inspection.
• 5:38
  And again, they're doing it in a way where everybody can
• 5:40
  understand it. And there's even a ton of value
• 5:43
  to the die hard NASCAR fans who know all about this.
• 5:46
  But just the video where they're right in these guys faces,
• 5:49
  you're seeing them measure the cars and all that and just
• 5:54
  really, really cool access. There's a there's a scene where
• 5:58
  Denny Hamlin, after qualifying poorly at Daytona, goes into his
• 6:02
  trailer and his mom's there. His mom's kind of poking him a
• 6:06
  little bit with a couple questions like you know, what
• 6:08
  are you doing? Are you, are you half throttle?
• 6:10
  You know what, Why are you qualifying bad?
• 6:11
  It's just it's just funny to see these superstars like Denny
• 6:14
  Hamlin. But still at the end of the day,
• 6:16
  hey mom is mom. And mom's like, hey, let's step
• 6:19
  it up. Must be better.
• 6:20
  So that was a cool moment there. And then also so Daytona, if you
• 6:25
  forgot, of course this is the second Daytona race, not the
• 6:27
  Daytona 500, but that was the the scene of that crazy Ryan
• 6:32
  Priest flipping rack. So you see all of the the video,
• 6:38
  I mean just this horrific wreck and all the reactions to all the
• 6:42
  drivers wondering if Ryan Priest is OK and all that.
• 6:47
  And then so obviously if you forget what happened that
• 6:49
  Daytona, that Daytona race, you have a Chris Buscher who who
• 6:54
  wins the race and because there's not a new winner, Ty
• 6:56
  Gibbs wrecks out earlier. So Bubba Wallace gets in first
• 7:01
  time ever making the playoffs. Denny Hamlin was already in
• 7:05
  there. But again, the story line is Ty
• 7:06
  Gibbs essentially versus Bubba Wallace to make the the 16 in
• 7:11
  the playoffs and kind of the whole idea of Denny Hamlin who
• 7:14
  has to I have a team mate to potentially root for, but also
• 7:19
  the team mate of the team he owns 2311.

  He even says on his podcast as part of this episode stirs up a
• 7:25
  little controversy. Shocking.
• 7:28
  Then he goes, hey, in the end if I had to push either Ty Gibbs or
• 7:32
  Bubba Wallace to to a victory, I'm going to, I'm going to push
• 7:35
  Bubba Wallace. And there's kind of a cool funny
• 7:38
  part there where Dale Earnhardt Junior says yeah, you know I own
• 7:40
  the team and if I was in that situation I would do the same
• 7:43
  thing. I just probably wouldn't admit
• 7:45
  it on on video on the podcast, which is why I think, look,
• 7:49
  people love and hate Denny Hamlin.
• 7:51
  And I get it. To me, I think I think Denny
• 7:53
  Hamlin's my my favorite driver because of that.
• 7:56
  Because he's interesting, because he does run his mouth,
• 7:59
  because he is willing to say something that most people
• 8:02
  probably will put in their pocket.

  Yeah, you you you normally don't hear guys say that but he's
• 8:06
  being honest with you. So to me, my, my couple favorite
• 8:10
  drivers, Denny Hamlin and that's been the case for a long time.

  Ross Chastain, I think is is the is the guy that's just the best
• 8:17
  for the sport in terms of pure entertainment value.

  And I'm sure we're going to hear from Ross Chastain later in the
• 8:23
  documentary, but this one is mostly about Denny Hamlin.

  So looks like episode 2 is going to be focused on Bubba Wallace.

  This is a five part series. You got 45 minute episodes and

  so far so good. I don't know if I'm going to

  break down every episode like this one by one.

  I may watch a couple in a row and come back on again.

  And that's why the timing, the timing of this NASCAR full speed

  from Netflix just couldn't be better.

  as Twitter, you see all the people involved in this, They're

  all tweeting about it. They're doing a great job to

  promote the sport in the perfect time.

  Because look, the the documentary dropped on a

  Tuesday, OK, it was late, late at night, but still, if you want

  to watch the five episodes, one per day, you go Tuesday,
• 9:46
  Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Boom.

  That's right, right. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
• 9:50
  Friday, Saturday, and then boom. All of a sudden Sunday is the
• 9:53
  Clash and you're really into the NASCAR vibe right before the
• 9:57
  season starts, even though it's an exhibition race.

  So I highly recommend you guys watch NASCAR Full Speed Playoffs

  or Bust episode one. You can tell.

  I mean, obviously Ryan Blaney's all over it.

  Kyle Larson is all over it. Ross Chastain, you've already

  seen Denny Hamlin. You've already seen William

  Byron, You're going to see Tyler Reddick, You're going to see

  more of Bubba Wallace. So we'll see what happens as we

  progress here. But so far, so good.
