- 0:00Speaker 1: Let us pray. And I saw a new heaven and
- 0:04Speaker 1: a new earth, for the first heaven and the first
- 0:08Speaker 1: earth were passed away. Revelation 21.1 When I ponder and
- 0:15Speaker 1: listen to today's reading, I thank you, Lord, that you
- 0:19Speaker 1: invoke newness. Through John's account, my heart is overwhelmed with
- 0:25Speaker 1: the glorious new world you've appointed for us as your children.
- 0:31Speaker 1: a new world filled with peace, joy, love, abundance, and
- 0:38Speaker 1: your never-ending grace. As I reflect on the journey that
- 0:43Speaker 1: my life has taken, I will rest on the fact
- 0:47Speaker 1: that from Genesis to Revelation, you've proved the ultimate love
- 0:52Speaker 1: story of a father who desires to win the hearts
- 0:56Speaker 1: of his children back, no matter how far they've gone,
- 1:00Speaker 1: or mad they've become. I now see, God, that your
- 1:06Speaker 1: love is a perfect love. I now see that the
- 1:10Speaker 1: life of Jesus isn't only beneficial to my purpose, but
- 1:15Speaker 1: necessary for me to even live my purpose. I declare
- 1:20Speaker 1: that no matter what I hear, my life will be
- 1:24Speaker 1: dedicated to honoring and serving you forever, until I see
- 1:30Speaker 1: you face to face. Thank you for your perfect love.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Thank you that I am brand new, that I have
- 1:40Speaker 1: been redeemed with the ultimate price, your son. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Thank you for praying with me today. Continue listening for
- 1:55Speaker 1: an incredible Bible story brought to you by BibleInAYear.com.
- 2:09Speaker 2: A New Earth In our last story, John saw a
- 2:13Speaker 2: vision of past, present, and future evil reigning on the earth.
- 2:19Speaker 2: He saw mighty dragons and great beasts devouring the earth
- 2:23Speaker 2: and corrupting mankind. Then John saw a hero emerge from
- 2:27Speaker 2: the gates of heaven. The finisher and Messiah, Jesus Christ,
- 2:32Speaker 2: descended on a white horse with a robe dipped in blood.
- 2:36Speaker 2: He defeated the beasts and cast the armies of darkness
- 2:39Speaker 2: into destruction. Now we see Jesus giving way to a
- 2:44Speaker 2: new heaven and earth, a place with no more mourning
- 2:47Speaker 2: or suffering, a place where the perfect will of God
- 2:50Speaker 2: unites with the willing hearts of mankind, inspired by the
- 2:54Speaker 2: book of Revelation.
- 2:59Speaker 3: We're so glad you joined us on the Bible in
- 3:01Speaker 3: a Year podcast today. The Bible in a Year podcast
- 3:04Speaker 3: is an outreach of PowerPoint Ministries and and can only
- 3:07Speaker 3: come to you each week through the support of listeners
- 3:10Speaker 3: just like you. Your support today is so important that
- 3:14Speaker 3: we want to thank you for your gift by giving
- 3:15Speaker 3: you a copy of my book called The Jesus Book.
- 3:19Speaker 3: It is a powerful guide that shows how every book
- 3:21Speaker 3: of the Bible points to Jesus and how his living word,
- 3:25Speaker 3: the truth of God's word, will transform your life. So
- 3:29Speaker 3: to get a copy of The Jesus Book, simply go
- 3:32Speaker 3: to jackgraham.org slash Jesus. That's jackgraham.org slash Jesus. And thank
- 3:39Speaker 3: you for your support. In our previous episode, we heard
- 3:43Speaker 3: about the war to end all wars, the great battle
- 3:46Speaker 3: between Satan and his army and God's army, led by
- 3:50Speaker 3: the Lord Jesus Christ. It was a vision full of
- 3:53Speaker 3: symbolism and one that ultimately gives us great hope that
- 3:57Speaker 3: one day, and we believe one day soon, Christ will
- 4:00Speaker 3: come in victory to conquer evil for good. So as
- 4:04Speaker 3: today we come to the conclusion of our journey through
- 4:06Speaker 3: God's Word, we will hear what John saw when God
- 4:10Speaker 3: revealed things to come as the world passes away and
- 4:13Speaker 3: everything is made brand new. So let's listen now to
- 4:17Speaker 3: this great reading from the book of Revelation.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Then I saw the earth fade away. Its cities, kingdoms,
- 4:26Speaker 2: and armies dissolved like snow under the bright warmth of
- 4:29Speaker 2: God and The conquests of man blew away like ashes
- 4:33Speaker 2: in the wind, and its evils along with it. The
- 4:37Speaker 2: sea was no more, and in its place I saw
- 4:40Speaker 2: a holy city come in glory. I saw the perfect
- 4:43Speaker 2: will of God meet the earth like a dance. From
- 4:46Speaker 2: the ruins of the kingdom of man emerged a new Jerusalem.
- 4:50Speaker 2: The city was beautiful, and its people were adorned like
- 4:54Speaker 2: a bride prepared for its groom. I heard a gentle
- 4:58Speaker 2: yet strong voice call out, saying, This is the dwelling
- 5:01Speaker 2: place of God and man. Here they will exist together
- 5:06Speaker 2: in unity. They will be his people, and he will
- 5:09Speaker 2: be their God. He will wipe away every tear from
- 5:12Speaker 2: their eyes, and the sting of death will be no more.
- 5:16Speaker 2: There will be no more mourning or pain. for all
- 5:20Speaker 2: the former things interweaved with darkness have passed away, and
- 5:24Speaker 2: all that remains is the light of Christ. Then I
- 5:28Speaker 2: saw him, the hero, the one who created the galaxies
- 5:33Speaker 2: with a breath, the giver of life, the shepherd of
- 5:36Speaker 2: the flock, the son of man. He sat upon his
- 5:40Speaker 2: throne with gentleness and grace. He spread his arms to
- 5:44Speaker 2: his people and said, Behold, I am making all things new.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I fell to my knees and watched him in awe.
- 5:53Speaker 2: All who were with me bowed before him. I am
- 5:56Speaker 2: the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end, he said.
- 6:02Speaker 2: All who are thirsty and all who are weak come
- 6:05Speaker 2: to the fountain of living water. An angel stood behind
- 6:10Speaker 2: me as I watched. He held my hand and said, Come,
- 6:13Speaker 2: I will show you the bride of the Lamb, the
- 6:16Speaker 2: one who is redeemed. So I was taken up again
- 6:19Speaker 2: to see the new city. Its radiance was like a
- 6:22Speaker 2: rare jewel. It had a great and mighty wall with
- 6:26Speaker 2: twelve gates, and the names of the twelve tribes of
- 6:29Speaker 2: Israel and the twelve apostles of Christ were inscribed on
- 6:33Speaker 2: its walls and gates. Its streets were like gold and
- 6:37Speaker 2: fine jewels, and its gates were as pure as pearls.
- 6:42Speaker 2: There was no temple, for the glory of God was
- 6:45Speaker 2: among the peoples. THERE WAS NO NEED FOR THE SUN
- 6:48Speaker 2: OR MOON, SINCE THE GLORY OF GOD GAVE IT LIGHT.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I SAW A SOCIETY WITH PEOPLE GIVING HONOR TO GOD
- 6:55Speaker 2: AND BASKING IN THE LIGHT OF HIS GOODNESS. THE ANGEL
- 6:59Speaker 2: THEN SHOWED ME A RIVER OF LIVING WATER. IT WAS
- 7:02Speaker 2: FLOWING FROM THE THRONE OF GOD. ON ONE SIDE OF
- 7:05Speaker 2: THE RIVER WAS A GREAT CITY AND ON THE OTHER
- 7:08Speaker 2: WAS THE TREE OF LIFE. ITS LEAVES GAVE HEALING AND
- 7:12Speaker 2: ITS FRUIT FED THE NATIONS. THE PEOPLE OF GOD MET
- 7:15Speaker 2: HIM FACE TO FACE. They dwelled with him and reigned
- 7:19Speaker 2: with him, creating good things for his glory. And with that,
- 7:24Speaker 2: I heard the voice of Jesus saying to all who
- 7:26Speaker 2: are on the earth, Come to me, all you who thirst. Behold,
- 7:31Speaker 2: I am coming soon. I am the Alpha and the Omega,
- 7:35Speaker 2: the first and the last, the beginning and the end.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Thus ends the great story of God given to mankind.
- 7:46Speaker 2: It is not a story of man ascending to perfection
- 7:49Speaker 2: or enlightenment. It is not a story of good people
- 7:53Speaker 2: doing good things. Nor is it a story to teach
- 7:57Speaker 2: moral behavior. No, it is the story of a loving
- 8:01Speaker 2: God who pursues a broken and far-off people. It is
- 8:05Speaker 2: a story of a loving husband that courts his bride.
- 8:09Speaker 2: It is a story of a shepherd who goes after
- 8:12Speaker 2: his lost sheep. The story of God brings hope to
- 8:17Speaker 2: all who feel lost, lonely, and trapped in their sin.
- 8:21Speaker 2: It points to a loving and merciful Savior who will
- 8:24Speaker 2: lay down his life to save those he loves. The
- 8:28Speaker 2: Bible is the story of Jesus.
- 8:36Speaker 3: So here we are at the end, or should I
- 8:39Speaker 3: say the beginning of what will never end, eternity. As
- 8:43Speaker 3: we open today's reading, John tells us about his vision
- 8:46Speaker 3: of a new earth, a new heavens and a new earth.
- 8:50Speaker 3: The world as we know it fades away and something
- 8:52Speaker 3: brand new, a new heavens and a new earth is born.
- 8:57Speaker 3: The sun is God's glory finally dwelling with mankind again
- 9:01Speaker 3: just as he wanted it when he first spoke light
- 9:03Speaker 3: and life into the world at creation. There is a
- 9:06Speaker 3: beautiful symmetry and strategy in the Bible. The first two
- 9:10Speaker 3: chapters of Genesis speak of the creation of the heavens
- 9:13Speaker 3: and the earth at the very beginning of time as
- 9:15Speaker 3: we know it. Now, here in the final two chapters
- 9:18Speaker 3: of the Revelation, it begins a new restoration of a
- 9:22Speaker 3: perfect creation, which is forever. The old, the sick, the
- 9:26Speaker 3: dying and hurting world has passed on. Heaven now comes
- 9:30Speaker 3: to earth, and there is a new Jerusalem, God's holy city.
- 9:34Speaker 3: The city John saw was beautiful and ornate. Words fail
- 9:39Speaker 3: to do it justice, but this is God's Word, and
- 9:42Speaker 3: so we have this magnificent portrait of what the afterlife
- 9:45Speaker 3: is going to be. All that was broken has been restored,
- 9:49Speaker 3: and those who are in Christ will dwell in God's
- 9:51Speaker 3: presence throughout all eternity. There will be no need for
- 9:55Speaker 3: a son that is a physical son because Jesus Christ
- 9:59Speaker 3: will be the light of eternity. Every tear will be
- 10:02Speaker 3: wiped away and all that overwhelms us now will be
- 10:06Speaker 3: swept away with joy and satisfaction in God's presence and
- 10:09Speaker 3: his great glory among us. When Christ came the first time,
- 10:14Speaker 3: he gave humanity glimpses of what the future would look like,
- 10:17Speaker 3: the kingdom of God. the day that he would wipe
- 10:20Speaker 3: away all of our tears and restore the broken and
- 10:23Speaker 3: heal the sick. He did that temporarily in his first coming,
- 10:27Speaker 3: but he does it permanently when he comes again and
- 10:30Speaker 3: establishes the new heavens and the new earth. When Jesus
- 10:34Speaker 3: spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well, he told
- 10:37Speaker 3: her of the living water he had to offer. Now
- 10:40Speaker 3: in this new earth, this new heaven, John saw the
- 10:43Speaker 3: fountain of living water, the very thing Jesus spoke about.
- 10:47Speaker 3: And through the city runs a river of living water
- 10:50Speaker 3: that flows from the very throne of God. This is
- 10:54Speaker 3: a reminder that God is and always has been the
- 10:57Speaker 3: giver of all of life and goodness and satisfaction. The
- 11:00Speaker 3: people whose names are written in the book of life
- 11:03Speaker 3: will live in this city. They will find complete rest
- 11:07Speaker 3: and restoration. John heard Jesus speaking to him once more,
- 11:11Speaker 3: saying in Revelation 22, verses 6 and 7, these words
- 11:16Speaker 3: are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of
- 11:19Speaker 3: the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to
- 11:21Speaker 3: show his servants what must soon take place. And behold,
- 11:26Speaker 3: I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps
- 11:29Speaker 3: the word of the prophecy of this book. As we
- 11:32Speaker 3: await the return of Jesus in glory to bring us
- 11:35Speaker 3: to our eternal home, where there will be no sorrow
- 11:38Speaker 3: and sickness or strife, where we will dwell in the
- 11:41Speaker 3: presence of God forever, may we take these words to heart.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Jesus is our Savior, our Redeemer, our Lord and Master,
- 11:50Speaker 3: the one who was there from the very beginning and
- 11:52Speaker 3: will be with us at the end and throughout all eternity.
- 11:58Speaker 3: He is the one and the only one that gives
- 12:00Speaker 3: us eternal life. If you have listened to this podcast
- 12:04Speaker 3: from beginning to end, start to finish, and have yet
- 12:07Speaker 3: to believe and trust in Jesus as your Savior, I
- 12:10Speaker 3: want to encourage you to do that right now. Jesus
- 12:14Speaker 3: loves you. God has a wonderful plan for your life,
- 12:17Speaker 3: and sin had broken our relationship with God. And so
- 12:20Speaker 3: Jesus came to this earth, perfect in his humanity, perfect
- 12:24Speaker 3: in his deity. He died on the cross to pay
- 12:27Speaker 3: the penalty for our sins and rose again so that
- 12:30Speaker 3: we could have forgiveness and forever life, life with him,
- 12:34Speaker 3: life with a capital L. Call upon his name today.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Here's what the apostle Paul said in Romans 10, Verses
- 12:42Speaker 3: 9 and 10, if we confess with our mouths the
- 12:44Speaker 3: Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God has
- 12:47Speaker 3: raised him from the dead, we will be saved. Whoever
- 12:51Speaker 3: calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Whoever means you, you can trust him today. In the
- 13:00Speaker 3: book of Revelation that we have been reading recently, Jesus
- 13:04Speaker 3: stands at the door and knocks in Revelation 3.20. And
- 13:08Speaker 3: he says, if anyone hears my voice and opens the door,
- 13:11Speaker 3: I will come in. So right now where you are,
- 13:14Speaker 3: invite Jesus into your life, and I promise you he
- 13:17Speaker 3: will come in. He will give you an abundant life,
- 13:21Speaker 3: an eternal life, the forgiveness of your sins, and a
- 13:24Speaker 3: fulfilling life here and now. He will write your name
- 13:29Speaker 3: in the Lamb's book of life, and you can be
- 13:31Speaker 3: secure and safe forever with him. If you are already
- 13:37Speaker 3: a believer in Christ, I hope today's episode, as all
- 13:41Speaker 3: the episodes in the Bible in a year, have encouraged you.
- 13:44Speaker 3: What a wonderful hope we have in Jesus. But I
- 13:48Speaker 3: also would encourage you to share this hope with others.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Tell them of what Christ can do in their lives
- 13:54Speaker 3: just as he has changed your heart. Jesus has charged us,
- 13:59Speaker 3: commissioned us to make disciples of all the nations, beginning
- 14:03Speaker 3: with our neighbors, and telling the story of Jesus wherever
- 14:06Speaker 3: we go. It's the wonderful story of God's love and
- 14:10Speaker 3: grace through Jesus our Lord. Let's pray together. Dear God,
- 14:15Speaker 3: we thank you for this promise of heaven and the
- 14:18Speaker 3: hope of eternal life that is provided for us in
- 14:21Speaker 3: Jesus Christ. We thank you for the Bible, dear God,
- 14:25Speaker 3: this wonderful word that you have inspired from beginning to
- 14:28Speaker 3: end and everything in between. We praise you for a
- 14:32Speaker 3: word that is infallible and inerrant. May we always trust
- 14:37Speaker 3: your word and obey it. And Lord, may we be
- 14:40Speaker 3: witnesses of the gospel wherever we go. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Thank you for listening to today's Bible in a Year podcast.
- 14:50Speaker 3: And before we go, I wanted to let you know
