Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This production is brought to you by the Recess Bell.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Hey everybody, Yeah yeah, my name is Justin Greenberg. VI
- 0:12Speaker 1: is the film reel Over on the Recess Bell Network.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And I got my buddy Jonathan and we're gonna be talking.
- 0:17Speaker 1: So Adam Sandler Movies, The Man of the Hour, the
- 0:21Speaker 1: Man with the Power, Too sweet to be sour. Mister
- 0:25Speaker 1: Adam Sandler a guy that I have a love hate
- 0:28Speaker 1: relationship with. I'd think if I was to hang out
- 0:31Speaker 1: or if I wanted to hang out with any celebrity,
- 0:34Speaker 1: it would actually probably be Adam Sandler. I really think
- 0:38Speaker 1: he's a good dude. Anytime I watch him on talk shows,
- 0:41Speaker 1: whether he's on Conan O'Brien, he's a fixture on the
- 0:44Speaker 1: Dan Patrick show, you know, the sports broadcaster. He just
- 0:48Speaker 1: seems like a chill dude, Like, oh, he wants to
- 0:51Speaker 1: play basketball.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I was just gonna say he goes and plays basketball
- 0:53Speaker 2: like a La fitness by his house or whatever.
- 0:55Speaker 1: He's a guy who's worth half a billion dollars, and
- 0:58Speaker 1: he dresses like me, and he likes sports. He likes
- 1:02Speaker 1: pro wrestling. He's just a dude who has a wife
- 1:06Speaker 1: and kids, and he's in show business. Which is a rarity.
- 1:09Speaker 1: If you've never heard a controversial thing that he's done
- 1:13Speaker 1: some of the movies. Maybe he's made her a little
- 1:15Speaker 1: bit offensive, not for me, but for some people. But
- 1:19Speaker 1: you've never heard Adam Sandler got a dui. You never
- 1:21Speaker 1: heard Adam Sandler beat his wife. It's always good story
- 1:25Speaker 1: after good story from this dude. I think he's just
- 1:27Speaker 1: a genuine good dude.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and he has all his friends in all his movies.
- 1:31Speaker 1: He's very loyal. He's very loyal to his friends. He'll
- 1:36Speaker 1: cast them in his movies and give them roles, some
- 1:39Speaker 1: of his college friends, you know, like Alan Colvert, who
- 1:42Speaker 1: played the caddie in Happy Gilmour. He's also a little nikky.
- 1:46Speaker 1: He's in like all of his movies. He even gave
- 1:49Speaker 1: him a star and roll in Grandma's Boy, movie he produced.
- 1:52Speaker 1: He's just a good dude from what I've gathered. But
- 1:55Speaker 1: I have a hate relationship with him because I pretty
- 1:58Speaker 1: much think for the last twenty year, like most people,
- 2:01Speaker 1: he's made terrible movies.
- 2:02Speaker 2: He's made he's made bad.
- 2:04Speaker 1: He's made ones that clearly seem like an excuse to
- 2:08Speaker 1: go on vacation. He's like, I want to film in Hawaii.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I guess I'll just make a movie where I go
- 2:13Speaker 1: to Hawaii. Yeah, well, I want to go to Australia
- 2:15Speaker 1: with Drew Barry Moore. I guess I'll just you know,
- 2:18Speaker 1: write a script where we're in Australia. So it just
- 2:20Speaker 1: seems lazy. Uh. Most of his movies involve him being
- 2:24Speaker 1: rich and being with a really hot woman.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Ye.
- 2:27Speaker 1: No, I don't blame him. I mean I would do
- 2:29Speaker 1: the same thing, like, oh, I want to make a
- 2:31Speaker 1: movie I have to make out with Selma Hayek and
- 2:34Speaker 1: live in a mansion for you know, two months.
- 2:36Speaker 2: He does always have hot chicks, but all the.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Power to him. Yeah again, like we said we'd do
- 2:41Speaker 1: the same thing. Have we talked about like if let's
- 2:46Speaker 1: just say, like your girlfriend or your you know, your
- 2:50Speaker 1: wife was an actor. It was an actress, Like I
- 2:53Speaker 1: couldn't imagine I'd be so jealous if I was like
- 2:57Speaker 1: at a premiere watching if I was married to Margot
- 3:01Speaker 1: Robbie and Margot Robbie is just like her breasts out
- 3:04Speaker 1: having sex on the screen. Like how does I don't
- 3:07Speaker 1: know how these couples survive, I mean.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Majority of most of them don't.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Yeah, so I mean kudos to Jackie Sandler, the wife
- 3:15Speaker 1: of Adam Sandler. She's usually on the set of these movies.
- 3:18Speaker 1: She's in a lot of them. Yeah, but she's just
- 3:20Speaker 1: like an understanding wife that's like, all right, that's your role.
- 3:23Speaker 1: You know, you gotta do what you gotta do. But
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'm so jealous. I couldn't imagine allowing that, or I
- 3:30Speaker 1: could imagine my ex like allowing me to do that
- 3:33Speaker 1: sort of shit.
- 3:33Speaker 2: If you were with Margot Robbie, you really think you'd care.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I guess I guess I wouldn't if I if I
- 3:38Speaker 1: was like, I don't care, do what you gotta do.
- 3:42Speaker 1: But it's it's it is a weird, interesting dynamic. And
- 3:45Speaker 1: then you see a lot of people that are on
- 3:47Speaker 1: the set eventually find a relationship with with one another.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I think the most famous one would be Brad Pitt
- 3:53Speaker 1: and Angeline Joli because you know she was married, uh well,
- 3:56Speaker 1: he was married to Jennifer Admimston and then they did
- 3:59Speaker 1: Mister and Missus Smith and then they ended up falling
- 4:01Speaker 1: in love. Afleck and Jennifer Gardner they did Daredevil together,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and you know, he was with Jennifer Lopez for the
- 4:08Speaker 1: first time so there's a lot of a lot of
- 4:12Speaker 1: sexual tension on these sets.
- 4:14Speaker 2: But I guess they're not good actors.
- 4:16Speaker 1: No, yeah, they really can't act. Yeah, they just Yeah,
- 4:20Speaker 1: it's like I'm a I'm a method actor. I have
- 4:23Speaker 1: to cheat on you. It's it's my character. So yeah, Sandler,
- 4:27Speaker 1: I think has just been phoning it in. He makes
- 4:29Speaker 1: a lot of movies, like we said, to go on vacations.
- 4:31Speaker 1: He does things like a lot of sponsors in movies.
- 4:36Speaker 1: So if you watch something like Jack and Jill, which
- 4:38Speaker 1: is just a terrible movie.
- 4:40Speaker 2: That might be his worst movie ever.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Terrible, it's really bad. Yeah, I haven't watched it since
- 4:45Speaker 1: it came out, but it's, uh, it is one of
- 4:48Speaker 1: those bad ones. But you know, there's the famous scene
- 4:50Speaker 1: of Duncacino, so like they hire al Pacino to do
- 4:54Speaker 1: this ad for Dunkcino for for Dunkin Donuts, and you
- 4:57Speaker 1: know he's singing Dunkcino, which is honestly probably the funniest
- 5:00Speaker 1: part of the movie. But it's like an advertisement for
- 5:03Speaker 1: for Duncan Donaldson. But then throughout the movie, you know,
- 5:06Speaker 1: a lot of his movies are made by Sony, so
- 5:08Speaker 1: you'll see Sony products and Sony has a deal with
- 5:11Speaker 1: Coca Cola. So they're at a movie theater in the
- 5:14Speaker 1: movie Jack and Jill, and they're both drinking Coca Cola's,
- 5:16Speaker 1: and you know, the coke image is just dead front
- 5:20Speaker 1: and like why would both of them be drinking that
- 5:22Speaker 1: the same way? So it's shit like that is just
- 5:26Speaker 1: I guess you know he's sold out.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Well, didn't he sign that deal with Netflix?
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yeah? Now he has. Now he has a deal with Netflix,
- 5:32Speaker 1: I want to say for close to the last ten years. Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and all of his movies exclusively are on Netflix except
- 5:39Speaker 1: his non Happy Madison productions. So like he did Uncut Gems,
- 5:43Speaker 1: which was released in theaters, which is a really good movie,
- 5:45Speaker 1: which is better than you know, a lot of these
- 5:47Speaker 1: other movies. We went specific by the way, we're doing
- 5:50Speaker 1: a bracket for to figure out what is the best
- 5:52Speaker 1: Adam Sandler movie, and we I picked like Adam Sandler
- 5:55Speaker 1: Adam Sandler movies, Yeah, not you know, uh Spanglish or
- 5:59Speaker 1: on cut jams movies that are dramas. We're doing like
- 6:02Speaker 1: the goofy, dumb Sandler movies for this bracket. But yeah,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I don't know for just there's something said about comedies
- 6:08Speaker 1: not being in theaters because I grew up watching these
- 6:11Speaker 1: movies in theaters. I went to Happy Gilmour with my dad.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I went to you Know, A Wedding Singer, and water
- 6:17Speaker 1: Boy and Big Daddy. I saw all those movies in
- 6:19Speaker 1: theaters with my dad. I loved and my dad loved
- 6:22Speaker 1: Adam Sandler. I wonder what he would have thought of
- 6:24Speaker 1: what he's done in the last twenty years. I probably
- 6:26Speaker 1: wouldn't have been a fan. Maybe he would have been.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I don't know, but I miss going to the theater
- 6:31Speaker 1: and laughing. That just isn't a thing anymore. I've talked
- 6:36Speaker 1: about it a lot on this podcast, but some of
- 6:39Speaker 1: my best memories are laughing at movies like Borat and
- 6:42Speaker 1: Jackass Too, and you Know, Dumb and Dumber and Asvin Torra.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I remember seeing Astern Tora in theaters and just going
- 6:51Speaker 1: home and talking out of my ass at Thanksgiving and
- 6:54Speaker 1: getting yelled at, like I love that shit. I love
- 6:57Speaker 1: an audience laughing, and we're not getting that. There's maybe
- 7:01Speaker 1: two or three comedies released in theaters each year, and
- 7:04Speaker 1: they're not with the star powers that we used to have.
- 7:07Speaker 1: There's no any Murphy movies. There's no Jim Carrey movies.
- 7:10Speaker 1: There's no Sandler movies. Obviously, Robin Williams dead, Farley dead.
- 7:16Speaker 1: We're not getting these comedic actors. You get your Kevin Hartz.
- 7:19Speaker 1: That's pretty much it. And he's kind of annoying.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I mean, I like Kevin Hardy's funny, but.
- 7:25Speaker 1: He ain't those guys. He ain't Williams.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I'm trying to think of the last comedy I saw
- 7:29Speaker 2: in theaters.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I've seen movies that are have comedic elements to.
- 7:33Speaker 2: It, no, but not just a straight comedy.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, if I go through the list, there's
- 7:37Speaker 1: gotta be something there. But like movies like like a
- 7:40Speaker 1: Super Mario Brothers I saw two years ago, Like that
- 7:43Speaker 1: was a comedy kids movie, but it's not you know,
- 7:45Speaker 1: a Sandler Movie's not a Will Farrell movie.
- 7:47Speaker 2: That's that's just a straight up comedy.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's I think I saw like a Jennifer Lawrence
- 7:53Speaker 1: romcom a few years ago.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Oh.
- 7:55Speaker 1: No, Hard Feelings, yeah, which is pretty good, except it
- 7:58Speaker 1: should it should have been a little harder. It should
- 8:01Speaker 1: have been rauncher. She should have had sex with the kid,
- 8:04Speaker 1: Like it shouldn't have been more tame. It should have
- 8:07Speaker 1: pushed the envelope more, you know, like those eighties movies.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So unfortunately Sandler's movies aren't in theaters. And Happy Gilmore
- 8:14Speaker 1: two is his next one coming out, and it's a
- 8:16Speaker 1: Netflix movie. I'm hoping something. Sometimes these Netflix movies do
- 8:20Speaker 1: get released in theaters.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Well, I actually heard that they're re releasing the first one,
- 8:23Speaker 2: first one, but only two days.
- 8:25Speaker 1: But if we're doing that, can't they release the new one?
- 8:28Speaker 2: Well no, because the deal with Netflix. I mean they
- 8:31Speaker 2: would have to pay Netflix a lot of it, but.
- 8:32Speaker 1: They do that. There's been a few Netflix movies that
- 8:35Speaker 1: do get a limited release. I believe I could be incorrect,
- 8:40Speaker 1: but I believe I've read that if you want to
- 8:43Speaker 1: contend for an Oscar, your movie technically needs to be
- 8:46Speaker 1: released in theaters. Not that this is going to gettend
- 8:49Speaker 1: for an Oscar, so it's not gonna be an issue.
- 8:51Speaker 1: But a lot of those movies that are Netflix movies
- 8:53Speaker 1: have to get some sort of limited release. Even if
- 8:55Speaker 1: it's a small, you know, New York or La exclusive
- 8:59Speaker 1: sort of thing, it needs to be released in theaters.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I could be inaccurate way that makes it, but I
- 9:03Speaker 1: remember reading that years ago. But Sandler movies like we mentioned,
- 9:07Speaker 1: not the same. But we got the top eight movies
- 9:10Speaker 1: in my opinion from Adam Sandler that are Adam Sandler movies,
- 9:14Speaker 1: not the you know, dramas. Should we go over all
- 9:19Speaker 1: eight of them? Or should we just do the matchups?
- 9:22Speaker 1: Because do you have an issue with the rankings because
- 9:24Speaker 1: I ranked them in order, you know, like the number
- 9:26Speaker 1: one seed and the number eight seed going at it?
- 9:29Speaker 1: Would you change the order? So what I have right now,
- 9:31Speaker 1: Actually that might give away what we're gonna do with
- 9:33Speaker 1: our answers, So don't actually answer that. Let's go with
- 9:36Speaker 1: the number one matchup? Okay, and that is Happy Gilmore
- 9:41Speaker 1: versus Little Nikki. I think this one is gonna be
- 9:44Speaker 1: pretty simple. Yeah, so Little Nikki, we both have moving
- 9:48Speaker 1: on right absolutely Now did you see either of these
- 9:52Speaker 1: in theaters?
- 9:54Speaker 2: Oh? God, I don't know.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You don't have the you don't remember like a lot
- 9:59Speaker 1: of your childhood theater experiences.
- 10:02Speaker 2: No, I don't know why this one movie always sticks out.
- 10:06Speaker 2: We had a small, like maybe three screen movie theater
- 10:12Speaker 2: in the town I grew up in, like in downtown Brewster,
- 10:14Speaker 2: New York. And for some reason, the last movie I
- 10:18Speaker 2: remember seeing there was Congo I don't know why. That's
- 10:24Speaker 2: that just sticks in my head, like, oh yeah, the
- 10:26Speaker 2: movie theater back in Brewster, Congo, that's the only movie
- 10:29Speaker 2: that comes to mind.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Did you go to Taco Bell after and get the
- 10:32Speaker 1: commemorative watches? Because I did.
- 10:34Speaker 2: No, I don't even think we had a Taco Bell.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I'd never watched Congo in theaters, but we went to
- 10:40Speaker 1: Taco Bell to get these watches, which I love. I
- 10:43Speaker 1: love a good commemorative.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Well, no, that's uh yeah, So your one experience, that's
- 10:48Speaker 2: that's the one I can like that sticks in my
- 10:50Speaker 2: head all the time.
- 10:51Speaker 3: That's interesting this summer at Congo the movie, you joined
- 10:55Speaker 3: an expedition that will test the height of technology at
- 10:59Speaker 3: the depths of human courage. Show me, what do you
- 11:01Speaker 3: find will amaze you. We will discover the legendary taste
- 11:07Speaker 3: of Taco Bell, and while you're there, get three exciting
- 11:10Speaker 3: Congo the movie collectors watches, just one forty nine each
- 11:13Speaker 3: with any food purchase. But hurry, they're an endangered species.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So I saw both of these in theaters, Happy Gilmore.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I saw with my father and brother, and I remember
- 11:28Speaker 1: playing basketball after. I feel like I remember the whole
- 11:31Speaker 1: day leading up to Happy Gilmore and after Happy Gilmore.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But this is one of the most iconic comedies of
- 11:38Speaker 1: my lifetime. The villain of Shooter McGavin is right up there.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I don't know if there's a better villain in any movie, Like,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I don't even I'm talking like horror and action. I
- 11:51Speaker 1: love Shooter McGavin. He's so shitty. Here's not a redeeming
- 11:56Speaker 1: quality to him at all. And he's so smug and
- 11:59Speaker 1: arrow again, and Sandler plays such a great every man,
- 12:03Speaker 1: like he's the dude. He's not ugly, but he's not,
- 12:06Speaker 1: you know, George Clooney, he's not. He's not overly good
- 12:10Speaker 1: looking at his bad posture. He's he's poor. In this movie,
- 12:13Speaker 1: it's like, all right, everyone could relate to this guy.
- 12:16Speaker 1: He has anger issues. You have anger issues with the hockey.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I remember you talked about on one of your first
- 12:21Speaker 1: podcasts here, so you definitely have a lot of relations
- 12:24Speaker 1: with Happy Gilmore.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm a golfer. Oh true that Yeah, Happy
- 12:28Speaker 2: go More is right up my alley.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I think every kid, at least I did. We went
- 12:32Speaker 1: to the driving range after and we tried to do
- 12:34Speaker 1: the Happy Gilbert. I remember getting yelled at in the speaker,
- 12:37Speaker 1: Please don't do.
- 12:38Speaker 2: That, like any people broke their clubs doing that.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the golf to Magic.
- 12:43Speaker 2: The golf club companies were like, yes, this is the
- 12:46Speaker 2: best movie ever, Like, yeah, that'll be five hundred for
- 12:49Speaker 2: New Driver, thank you.
- 12:50Speaker 1: And I used sort of elements of First of all
- 12:52Speaker 1: again another movie that I quote a lot. I mean,
- 12:54Speaker 1: just dumb stuff like what a tremendous looking trophy, just
- 12:57Speaker 1: like stupid lines, a nice glas of warm less shut
- 13:00Speaker 1: the hell up? Uh, just so many iconic moments characters.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Oh now your back's about the hurt because you just
- 13:06Speaker 1: put the man.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, well your back's about the hurt because you just
- 13:11Speaker 2: pulled landscaping.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Dude, so many funny lines just from him, and then
- 13:14Speaker 1: you know, obviously Chubbs, it's all in the hits. Yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 1: so all I think, And we're bowlers, so I try
- 13:20Speaker 1: and get to my happy place at times if i'm
- 13:22Speaker 1: if I'm like angry, which we all get. If you
- 13:24Speaker 1: miss a ten pin or if you get a split,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you don't get in your happy place and just just
- 13:29Speaker 1: you know, it's all in the go home. You just
- 13:32Speaker 1: want to go home? Are you too good for your home?
- 13:34Speaker 2: And then the guy that he hires, Jack Ass.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, who just passed away a few years
- 13:38Speaker 1: ago with Bob Barker.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Yeah, great, price is wrong, bitch. Oh my, there's.
- 13:44Speaker 1: So so many Mister Larson, his old boss, who has
- 13:48Speaker 1: the nail in the head.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you gotta hit play where it lies.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, he's I had to hit it off of
- 13:53Speaker 1: Frankenstein's fat foot.
- 13:55Speaker 2: He's like, a, you're gonna go for the green. He's like,
- 13:57Speaker 2: nobody can hit the green. H Mister Gilmore just complete
- 14:00Speaker 2: did that feet less than forty minutes ago or whatever
- 14:02Speaker 2: it is?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Oh, that's great for happy Oh Mark I eight pieces
- 14:07Speaker 1: of ship like for breakfast.
- 14:08Speaker 2: This is a ship for breakfast. What So there's so many.
- 14:13Speaker 1: So many lines, so many moments. And then there's also
- 14:17Speaker 1: heart to the movie, and that, to me, is very
- 14:19Speaker 1: important with this movie because you actually care about the
- 14:22Speaker 1: guy and you care about his grandma. I mean, the
- 14:24Speaker 1: basic plot is his grandma's losing his home. He ends
- 14:27Speaker 1: up becoming a golfer because he can, he has the power,
- 14:30Speaker 1: He has the ability to do an amazing slap shot
- 14:33Speaker 1: with his hockey skills. Uh. So he ends up you know,
- 14:36Speaker 1: getting the help of Chubbs, who is a old golfer
- 14:39Speaker 1: who lost his arm. He lost his hand from my allegation, Yeah,
- 14:42Speaker 1: damn alligator bit my hand off, cut me down in
- 14:44Speaker 1: my prom So he gets the you know, the Obi
- 14:47Speaker 1: Wan treatment from him, so to teach him, to guide
- 14:49Speaker 1: him the ways of the golfing force.
- 14:52Speaker 3: And uh.
- 14:52Speaker 1: But there's heart at the end of it, you know,
- 14:54Speaker 1: with with him and his grandma in that relationship, and
- 14:57Speaker 1: then him with the the the woman in the movie,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I can't forget it. I can't remember her name right now,
- 15:03Speaker 1: but she's from Modern Family. She's really good in the movie.
- 15:08Speaker 1: So there is the heart to it, which at the
- 15:10Speaker 1: end of the day is important to me because you
- 15:12Speaker 1: want to root for this character. You're not rooting for
- 15:16Speaker 1: Shooter McGavin because you know, in horror movies, you know,
- 15:19Speaker 1: sometimes you root for Freddy Krueger, you're root for Jason Vorhees.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Nobody cares about the the counselors. You root for the villains.
- 15:26Speaker 1: In this movie. You want to see Shooter McGavin get
- 15:29Speaker 1: put in this place. Yeah, and you certainly get that
- 15:33Speaker 1: with Happy Gilmore. Let's move to Little Nikki just quickly.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I hope that they don't.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Make shoot a good guy.
- 15:41Speaker 2: No, I just I don't even know why they're doing it.
- 15:44Speaker 2: I mean again, I know, but again, we're what twenty
- 15:47Speaker 2: thirty years?
- 15:48Speaker 1: When did close to thirty years ninety six?
- 15:51Speaker 2: Like, come on, did we really? I mean, listen, I'm
- 15:53Speaker 2: gonna watch it, obviously, but I just hope that they don't.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Like Gladiator to me was a waste. I just hope
- 16:01Speaker 2: that Happy Gilmore too, isn't.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I think you just have to ignore it. I think
- 16:04Speaker 1: it's gonna be one of those things like I don't
- 16:06Speaker 1: even think about Dumb and Dumber two owning the legacy
- 16:09Speaker 1: of Dumb and Dummer. I just I just ignore it.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I've never gone back to watch it. No, I don't
- 16:12Speaker 1: even think of it as being a thing. Probably will
- 16:15Speaker 1: end up be doing that with with Happy Gilmore. But
- 16:17Speaker 1: if there was a Sandler movie that would make a sequel,
- 16:20Speaker 1: I feel like it would be Happy Gilmore because he's
- 16:22Speaker 1: a golfer. He you know, Rocky's a boxer. He has
- 16:25Speaker 1: another opponent, like what did he do? We didn't need
- 16:28Speaker 1: a Billy Madison sequel, you know, wraps up good. So
- 16:33Speaker 1: I think Gilmore deserve the sequel if there's gonna be
- 16:36Speaker 1: any Sandler movie. I personally also wouldn't have made it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: But they better not ruin shoot McGavin, better not him
- 16:42Speaker 1: be a good guy and turned baby face. It's the
- 16:45Speaker 1: last thing we fucking need. Yea. But let's move to
- 16:48Speaker 1: Little Nicky. You know, just in this matchup, we're having
- 16:51Speaker 1: Gilmore versus Little Nikki. I like Little Nikki. I was
- 16:54Speaker 1: really excited for Little NICKI. Me and my friends were
- 16:57Speaker 1: quoting a Little Nikki, you know, leading up to watching
- 16:59Speaker 1: it in theaters. You know, I got in the face
- 17:02Speaker 1: for the shovel or Quentin Tarantino has a cameo. He's like,
- 17:06Speaker 1: we're all gonna die and runs into a poll, like
- 17:08Speaker 1: we were doing that going to the movies. We were
- 17:11Speaker 1: so excited for it. Did it live up to the hype?
- 17:14Speaker 1: Probably not, But it's like a fun goofy stoner comedy.
- 17:18Speaker 1: If any of these movies are a stoner comedy, it's
- 17:20Speaker 1: this one. This is you know, it's got the heavy
- 17:22Speaker 1: metal music, it's got the obscure you know, references to
- 17:26Speaker 1: different artists and moments and time, but nowhere near the
- 17:31Speaker 1: legendary status that is Happy Gilmore. I mean, nothing really
- 17:35Speaker 1: quotable the voice of Little Nikki. It's it's funny, but
- 17:43Speaker 1: you want to hear that for an hour and a half.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Jordan got in the flash like you don't want that.
- 17:48Speaker 1: You want that maybe for a five minute SNL skite
- 17:52Speaker 1: or a bit character, you know, a side character that
- 17:54Speaker 1: talks every now and then, but for your lead to
- 17:57Speaker 1: be that guy. It's an interesting story of Satan having
- 18:01Speaker 1: to get his two brothers back, who you know, try
- 18:04Speaker 1: and escape and become the leaders of Hell. Interesting story.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Harvey Kayell is Satan and then you get a Rodney
- 18:11Speaker 1: Dangerfield as Harvey Kayitel's dad. You get a cameo by
- 18:15Speaker 1: Dan Marino. He tries to sell his soul to the devil,
- 18:20Speaker 1: he get a super Bowl and then he's like he
- 18:23Speaker 1: did it for Joe Namath. So there's a lot of
- 18:26Speaker 1: there's a lot of funny lines in the moments. Dana
- 18:28Speaker 1: Carvey's in it, but it's not the same. I think
- 18:34Speaker 1: it's just a different type of comedy than we got
- 18:38Speaker 1: with Happy Gilmore, and it tries to do the heart thing.
- 18:42Speaker 1: But I don't think anybody would have this better than
- 18:46Speaker 1: Happy Gilmore. So let's move Happy Gilmore moving on final
- 18:50Speaker 1: In the next matchup, and it's interesting a lot of
- 18:52Speaker 1: these matchups play into one another, and I sort of
- 18:55Speaker 1: did it on purpose, but also it sort of just
- 18:57Speaker 1: worked out that way because the next to are movies
- 19:01Speaker 1: where Sandler becomes a millionaire or billionaire, and that would
- 19:05Speaker 1: be Billy Madison as my number two seed versus mister
- 19:09Speaker 1: Deeds as the number seven seed. And to me, I
- 19:13Speaker 1: actually like Little Nikki more than mister Deeds. I think
- 19:18Speaker 1: this is when there was a shift in tone again,
- 19:21Speaker 1: even more so with Sandler movies. I think at this
- 19:25Speaker 1: point in his life he actually stopped smoking weed from
- 19:29Speaker 1: what I remember reading yea, and he became a little
- 19:32Speaker 1: more family friendly. And you know, obviously he's still pushing
- 19:35Speaker 1: the envelope with some of his jokes here, but this
- 19:37Speaker 1: is more of a a friendlier type of movie than
- 19:40Speaker 1: a Billy Madison. Billy Madison, you know, he's in his twenties. Yeah,
- 19:43Speaker 1: he's getting the new dy magazines. He's an asshole in
- 19:47Speaker 1: Billy Madison's a man child. In this one. He's a
- 19:50Speaker 1: nicer guy, like he's a good dude in Mister Deeds,
- 19:53Speaker 1: and you are rooting for him because he's he doesn't
- 19:56Speaker 1: have a bad bone in his body. But there's just
- 19:59Speaker 1: something about movies where one character's lying and they're caught
- 20:03Speaker 1: in a lie that to me, I don't know, it
- 20:06Speaker 1: puts me on edge, like I'm always waiting for the
- 20:09Speaker 1: bad thing to happen and Winona Ryder's character is playing
- 20:13Speaker 1: mister Deed's for a fool and she's lying about who
- 20:15Speaker 1: she is to get an inside scoop for a story.
- 20:18Speaker 1: She's like a news reporter. And this is just something
- 20:21Speaker 1: about that where I hate when people are in these
- 20:24Speaker 1: situations where you know they're gonna have that bad moment
- 20:27Speaker 1: where they find out the truth, and that's part of
- 20:30Speaker 1: the element. That's why I don't think it's nearly as
- 20:32Speaker 1: good as Billy Madison. And then just a comedy, Billy
- 20:35Speaker 1: Madison is right up there with Happy Gilmour's for as
- 20:38Speaker 1: quotability goes. You have amazing characters like Steve Buscemi in there,
- 20:43Speaker 1: and Chris Farley and Norm MacDonald. Uh even the principal Anderson,
- 20:47Speaker 1: who is the revolting blob the pro rest he was
- 20:53Speaker 1: supposed to pinch me. So I think Billy Madison is
- 20:56Speaker 1: much funnier. Maybe the character of Billy Madison is as
- 21:00Speaker 1: good as to do it. And there's probably not as
- 21:01Speaker 1: much heart in Billy Madison as there is mister Deeds.
- 21:04Speaker 1: But I don't even think it's close to me. Billy
- 21:06Speaker 1: Madison is in there in my top five favorite comedies
- 21:10Speaker 1: of all time. I'm definitely putting it over mister Deeds.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I agree with you. I think I like mister Deeds
- 21:16Speaker 2: more than you did. I can quote some of that
- 21:20Speaker 2: movie as I did yesterday, and you're like, oh, yeah,
- 21:22Speaker 2: that's that's a great quote. Yeah, but now then he uh,
- 21:27Speaker 2: he puts his uh he saves her out of the
- 21:29Speaker 2: water with his foot.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Yeah, the black Foot.
- 21:33Speaker 2: But no, Billy Madison, absolute classic.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's one of those movies that I fortunately
- 21:39Speaker 1: did not get to see in theaters, but we rented it,
- 21:42Speaker 1: and uh, it's just one of those movies where all
- 21:45Speaker 1: of our friends knew it from start to finish. And
- 21:48Speaker 1: Son Pelosi and this good for me. Stop looking at me,
- 21:52Speaker 1: Swan like all these lines and he's talking gibbers.
- 21:56Speaker 2: He yells at the kid, Yeah today.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Gim got anytime anyone stutters that has to be brought up,
- 22:03Speaker 1: stay here as long as you can. You gotta cherish
- 22:07Speaker 1: it over around a Cavon so hot, want to touch
- 22:11Speaker 1: the Heinie. Oh Farley as the bus driver yelling on
- 22:16Speaker 1: the bus. Oh my god, so many moments. And then
- 22:19Speaker 1: Eric the bad guy in it. He's not as good
- 22:22Speaker 1: as Shooting McGavin, but he's pretty damn close.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Yeah, he's definite.
- 22:26Speaker 1: He's a very hateable guy. At the end, they have
- 22:29Speaker 1: the you know, the the cathlon sort of thing with
- 22:32Speaker 1: that one judge talking about his wife, how he hates
- 22:34Speaker 1: his wife, my wife, the tramp. Steve Buscemi as the
- 22:38Speaker 1: guy who has made fun of by Billy Madison in
- 22:41Speaker 1: high school coming back and saving him. There's just uh yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 1: so many, so many great moments. So yeah, we're gonna
- 22:50Speaker 1: we're gonna move Sandlers. Uh really, first leading role as
- 22:54Speaker 1: Billy Madison onto the next round.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was his first one.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It was his first big one for sure. Let's move
- 23:02Speaker 1: on to round three or continuing round one rather the
- 23:06Speaker 1: third matchup, we got the Drew Barrymore films. Now, he
- 23:09Speaker 1: did do another one where they go to Australia blended blended,
- 23:14Speaker 1: which was terrible. But these two are fantastic. But I
- 23:17Speaker 1: do think one is a little more fantastic, and that
- 23:20Speaker 1: would be the Wedding Singer. I have a number three
- 23:23Speaker 1: versus Fifty First Dates as the number six matchup. I
- 23:27Speaker 1: really like fifty First Dates. I really love Drew Barrymore.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I have a giant crush on her. I think she's
- 23:32Speaker 1: so weird and quirky, and I just think she's beautiful
- 23:36Speaker 1: as well. And she's got obviously comedic chops because I
- 23:39Speaker 1: think she holds her own in these movies, and it
- 23:41Speaker 1: is a sweet movie. I just think the Wedding Singer. Again,
- 23:46Speaker 1: maybe it's just because I saw it when I was younger.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I was looking forward to it. I love the eighties,
- 23:51Speaker 1: so you have all these references to the nineteen eighties
- 23:54Speaker 1: in the movie. I think Wedding Singer. It might even
- 23:58Speaker 1: be my favorite Sandler movie. Well, I don't know. I
- 24:00Speaker 1: don't know. We'll get there. We'll get there. When we
- 24:02Speaker 1: get there, it's certainly, in my opinion, better than fifty
- 24:05Speaker 1: First Dates.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Though, Yeah, I think so. And and I'm a big
- 24:09Speaker 2: fan of fifty fifty First Dates. I like Sean Aston's
- 24:13Speaker 2: character yeah ten second Tom, Yeah, what's his name? Rob
- 24:18Speaker 2: Schneider when he because he keeps trying to like make
- 24:21Speaker 2: ways to talk to her when he beats him up
- 24:23Speaker 2: and then she runs him down with the bat.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yeah, there's there's there's a lot of great moments in
- 24:27Speaker 1: its sweet.
- 24:28Speaker 2: But then the wedding singer you got you know his
- 24:32Speaker 2: uh is it his brother, the guy with the Michael
- 24:35Speaker 2: Jackson jacket?
- 24:36Speaker 1: Yeah, with the mustache. Does Alan culvert to a covert? Yeah?
- 24:40Speaker 1: I guess that's his brother or brother in law maybe.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Yeah. And then you have what's her name, Christine Johnson?
- 24:47Speaker 2: Is that her name?
- 24:48Speaker 1: The friend of Drew Barrymore. Yeah, Ben Schiller's wife.
- 24:51Speaker 2: That is Yeah, Okay, that's what I thought it was.
- 24:53Speaker 1: She's hilarious. But it's just like John love it, love it.
- 24:57Speaker 1: He's losing his mind and I'm to reap the benefits.
- 25:02Speaker 1: The bad guy's a good dude. Oh yeah, Glenn, I
- 25:06Speaker 1: think his name.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Julia, great moments, Billy nobody talks to Billy idol that way? Uh,
- 25:15Speaker 1: the the old woman.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 1: So you have a lot of iconic moments, but at
- 25:22Speaker 1: the end of the day, the two characters that matter
- 25:24Speaker 1: are Robbie and Julie, Julia and and their romance. And
- 25:29Speaker 1: you really feel for Sandler because he's a wedding singer
- 25:32Speaker 1: who gets stud up by this bitch. So you have,
- 25:36Speaker 1: you know, a guy who's down on his luck and
- 25:38Speaker 1: he meets this sweet waitress who works at a wedding
- 25:41Speaker 1: that he's attending, and she attends his wedding to work
- 25:44Speaker 1: that event and sees that he gets stood up, and
- 25:47Speaker 1: eventually she's going to get married. But they form a
- 25:51Speaker 1: relationship and it's sort of, uh, this just sweet story
- 25:55Speaker 1: of this guy who's clearly much better than her actual fiance,
- 25:58Speaker 1: who's this yuppie, full of himself guy who cheats on her.
- 26:03Speaker 1: And he's this stand up sort of dude that you
- 26:05Speaker 1: know is down on his luck and is a good
- 26:08Speaker 1: dude though, and he's he's very likable Robbie Hart, and
- 26:12Speaker 1: you're really rooting for him. And it has clischches, you know,
- 26:14Speaker 1: the guy who has to run to the airport to
- 26:16Speaker 1: make sure the girl doesn't get on the plane. So
- 26:19Speaker 1: it pulls a lot of cliche elements that you get.
- 26:22Speaker 1: But to me, I like that. I like movies that
- 26:25Speaker 1: are classics that do things that we've seen before. If
- 26:29Speaker 1: it does it right. I know there's there's a saying
- 26:31Speaker 1: that there's really like only seven stories ever, and they're
- 26:34Speaker 1: just sort of taking different elements, but there's really only
- 26:37Speaker 1: a certain amount of stories, and they take a lot
- 26:39Speaker 1: of elements that we've seen in certain classic movies. But
- 26:42Speaker 1: I think it does it right. The soundtrack's great. Yeah,
- 26:44Speaker 1: and you're really rooting for these characters, so I'm moving.
- 26:47Speaker 2: We both good movies, both very good. I agree that
- 26:50Speaker 2: Wedding Singer gets the nod.
- 26:53Speaker 1: I think this next one is going to be the toughest.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I definitely. I was looking at it when you when
- 26:57Speaker 2: you showed me the bracket, and I'm like, man and
- 27:00Speaker 2: I they're both great.
- 27:02Speaker 1: We got water Boy versus Big Daddy.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Oh man, this is easily the toughest match up.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I think this is this is a take here, I don't.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I think I might laugh more at water Boy than
- 27:15Speaker 1: any other of these movies on the list. I'm not
- 27:17Speaker 1: saying it's the best movie, but it's so funny. It's
- 27:22Speaker 1: it's one laugh after another.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Yeah. Big Daddy is more of the it's a good
- 27:27Speaker 2: story story, but such a good one.
- 27:30Speaker 1: I mean, I mean there there's there's there's like a
- 27:32Speaker 1: courtroom drama at the end of Big Daddy. It's a
- 27:34Speaker 1: completely different type of movie. Water Boy being a sports movie,
- 27:38Speaker 1: we're both football fans, so you have that element. You
- 27:40Speaker 1: have the you know, great cameo by Lawrence Taylor don't
- 27:43Speaker 1: smoke crack uh. It's it's it's so quotable. Again, like
- 27:48Speaker 1: all these other movies, the voice I find like kind
- 27:53Speaker 1: of annoying, but I don't know, there's something like cute
- 27:57Speaker 1: about it, Like it's just like, yeah, it's just like
- 28:01Speaker 1: you feel bad for the guy like this. Kathy Bates, Kathy, no, Mama,
- 28:05Speaker 1: you're wrong.
- 28:06Speaker 3: No.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Colonel Sanders, Yeah, I don't know. Man again, you got
- 28:13Speaker 2: the fawns.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Henry Winkler, Henry Winkler, Khan. There's a scene in water
- 28:18Speaker 1: Boy which I might have rewound more than any scene ever.
- 28:23Speaker 1: It's when coach Klin realizes like he's down on his
- 28:26Speaker 1: luck and he takes a trophy from his office and
- 28:30Speaker 1: he throws it out a window and it hits Colonel
- 28:33Speaker 1: Sanders in the head. He makes his sounds like and me,
- 28:37Speaker 1: my buddy, we died laughing. I'll put the clip in
- 28:40Speaker 1: when we do the the edge of this, but we
- 28:43Speaker 1: would just rewind it. So fucking good. Coach Klein having
- 28:51Speaker 1: his mental breakdown flashback scene when he's in his high heels.
- 28:56Speaker 1: He's on the phone, He's like, I hate him, I
- 28:57Speaker 1: hate him, I hate him. He's he's so good in
- 29:00Speaker 1: that movie good. I remember my dad loving both of
- 29:03Speaker 1: these movies. I think I think my dad's favorite was
- 29:06Speaker 1: Happy Gilmore, but he certainly loved all the ones that
- 29:09Speaker 1: he watched of Adam Sandler. Water Boy is funnier. Big
- 29:15Speaker 1: Daddy has heart to it the all of Sandler movies.
- 29:18Speaker 2: So also very funny though Big Daddy, Yeah, very funny.
- 29:22Speaker 1: And you know, as a kid watching this movie, you
- 29:25Speaker 1: could put yourself in the shoes of the kid Frankenstein.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And then also, I just wanted to point something out
- 29:31Speaker 1: that we really didn't get to. All of Sandler's movies
- 29:33Speaker 1: have amazing soundtracks, amazing music. He uses a lot of
- 29:38Speaker 1: beach boys, he uses a lot of electric light orchestra,
- 29:41Speaker 1: Billy Joel and modern stuff that he's done. He always
- 29:44Speaker 1: has great, great music, and that plays a part in
- 29:48Speaker 1: both of these movies. Water Boy. I'm going to give
- 29:52Speaker 1: the slight edge to them over Big Daddy. I wouldn't
- 29:55Speaker 1: be mad either way. Big Daddy has more heart to it.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Big Daddy is a more interesting sort of story for him,
- 30:03Speaker 1: where this is just Warter Boys essentially like a happy Gilmore.
- 30:06Speaker 1: It's like a freak athlete who's not supposed to be
- 30:08Speaker 1: good out of sport ends up being good at a sport.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And it's a guy with a weird voice, which is
- 30:13Speaker 1: you know, Sandler Staple Big Daddies pushing the envelope with
- 30:16Speaker 1: his acting chops. You know, he's given a kid, uh
- 30:19Speaker 1: to pretty much raise on his own, and then there's
- 30:21Speaker 1: the turmoil of where's this kid gonna end up? Is
- 30:25Speaker 1: he raising him correctly? Then you got you know, the
- 30:27Speaker 1: romantic in both of these movies, Vicky Valancourt and water
- 30:31Speaker 1: Boy being over the top where the girl and Big
- 30:34Speaker 1: Daddy's you know, very sweet and likable. More in the
- 30:36Speaker 1: line of Julia Gulia.
- 30:38Speaker 2: What's his five year plan? Don't die?
- 30:40Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, the old man with his old balls.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Balls, the hooters yeah ah man.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Great, great, the lines, great moments, the spitting and sucking.
- 30:51Speaker 2: It up, the dirty packets of catchup.
- 30:55Speaker 1: The what else do we got? The the whole, the
- 30:59Speaker 1: the Halloween scene when he goes trick or treating, the
- 31:03Speaker 1: McDonald's breakfast scene in Big Daddy, Yeah, the skating scene
- 31:08Speaker 1: where he throws the stick on the floor, what's his name,
- 31:11Speaker 1: Rob Schneider's great, great characters.
- 31:17Speaker 2: I might have to give it to Big Daddy over
- 31:20Speaker 2: water Boy. I might have to I don't know. There again,
- 31:23Speaker 2: it's the four or five matchup.
- 31:25Speaker 1: It's the hardest match, without a doubt.
- 31:28Speaker 2: A trying to think which movie, which one have I
- 31:32Speaker 2: watched more or if they're if they were both on
- 31:36Speaker 2: at the same time, I.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Think it depends what. I would definitely watch water Boy
- 31:41Speaker 1: over Big Daddy. Big Daddy's more of a has the
- 31:44Speaker 1: drama elements, so come in a different mood though, I'd
- 31:46Speaker 1: want to watch Big Daddy. But if I'm just like
- 31:49Speaker 1: zoning out or like you want to watch a.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Water Boy, Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
- 31:54Speaker 1: A big show is in water Boy, Captain captain saying
- 32:00Speaker 1: oh shows no mercy, pokes the dude in the eye.
- 32:03Speaker 1: It's too Oh whatter sucks, it really really sucks.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Uh you can do it.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I mean you can do it.
- 32:11Speaker 2: That's that's the meme. That's uh, that's Ralph Schneider. Yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 2: all right, well we can give it the water Boy.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I have no issue with no no, no, I know.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Like I said, it's I mean, you can you can
- 32:22Speaker 2: do it. You can recite twenty different lines from both
- 32:25Speaker 2: of them, you know, easily.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Yeah, so they're both great, and it's just it's said
- 32:30Speaker 1: like actually thinking about, like these are so good movies,
- 32:33Speaker 1: like why why did he lost lose that touch? What
- 32:36Speaker 1: did he lose? Did we grow up? I don't think so. No.
- 32:39Speaker 2: I think that he signed the due with Netflix, he
- 32:43Speaker 2: had to do like ten movies, right, it was before
- 32:46Speaker 2: the Netflix.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Yeah, No, he was putting out crap before the Pixels
- 32:49Speaker 1: and shit like that.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I think he had kids. What was the one switch
- 32:53Speaker 1: Click Click, which on paper should have been amazing trailer
- 32:57Speaker 1: was really good, but he just I think the kids
- 33:01Speaker 1: in the I don't know. Maybe he grew up and
- 33:03Speaker 1: we didn't. I don't know.
- 33:05Speaker 2: I mean was great. When did that come out?
- 33:07Speaker 1: And that was never really grow No? I felt it
- 33:11Speaker 1: could have been great.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I think the first one was very funny.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I think if it was made twenty years ago and
- 33:15Speaker 1: you had those guys there and you had Farley there
- 33:17Speaker 1: instead of Kevin James, would have been a better movie.
- 33:20Speaker 1: But I think these four. I have no issue with
- 33:23Speaker 1: these four moving on. So let's do the first matchup
- 33:26Speaker 1: of Happy Gilmore versus Wedding singer.
- 33:29Speaker 2: No, it should be uh right, no, it should be happy.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Oh correct, right, yeah, correct, Look at you. That's why
- 33:37Speaker 1: we hired.
- 33:37Speaker 2: You, Jonathan.
- 33:38Speaker 1: All Right, Happy Gilmore versus water Boy, which is you know,
- 33:41Speaker 1: funny that these two ended up movies, you know, matching
- 33:44Speaker 1: up as much as we love water Boy and we
- 33:47Speaker 1: just quoted the hell out of it. And I, like
- 33:49Speaker 1: I said, I think there's more jokes to water Boy
- 33:52Speaker 1: because it's more of a Goofi your commentation less substance.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's you know, at least Happy Gilmore, like you said,
- 33:59Speaker 2: has the story of why he's dealing with.
- 34:02Speaker 1: The romance is sweet. You know they're they're you know,
- 34:04Speaker 1: roller skating and to Endless Love. Yeah, ice skating, Like
- 34:09Speaker 1: they don't have a scene like that with Vicky and.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Water Boy on the Are they like the mower?
- 34:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, I guess that's it, but it's not it's
- 34:16Speaker 1: not as you know, crisis as that. And then even
- 34:19Speaker 1: like when I was a kid, when Chubbs died, like
- 34:21Speaker 1: I was pretty fucking said.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Well yeah, yeah got him the alligator, Yeah, I got
- 34:27Speaker 2: his head.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I I you know, Happy Gilmore is just yeah, it's
- 34:33Speaker 1: it's perfection from from start to finish. Even the music,
- 34:36Speaker 1: you know, starts off with h Tuesdays Gone with the
- 34:40Speaker 1: Wind by Leonard Skinner, and then the end of the
- 34:42Speaker 1: movie ends with that with with Abraham Lincoln and the
- 34:46Speaker 1: crocodile or the alligator and and and Chubbs and the
- 34:49Speaker 1: sky waving, like it's just it's such a sweet moment
- 34:52Speaker 1: and the good music carry on My wayward Son is
- 34:56Speaker 1: like all these movies, like I said, have such a
- 35:00Speaker 1: there's there's so many good songs in both movies, so
- 35:03Speaker 1: many great moments in both movies. But we got happy Gilmore.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Moving on to the finals. This one's gonna be tough, ye,
- 35:09Speaker 1: this one's gonna be tough with Billy Madison and Wedding
- 35:12Speaker 1: Singer and and we've said what we said about both
- 35:15Speaker 1: of them. I think it just depends on the mood
- 35:18Speaker 1: that you're in for both of these movies. If you
- 35:20Speaker 1: want to feel good sort of movie where you're feeling romantic,
- 35:26Speaker 1: you want to watch Wedding Singer. If you just want
- 35:28Speaker 1: to laugh your ass off at a manchild, you know
- 35:32Speaker 1: who's literally in third grade, in first grade, in kindergarten,
- 35:36Speaker 1: Like you watch Billy Madison.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Well he has to do that so that he can
- 35:40Speaker 2: get the money. Right, he has to graduate.
- 35:42Speaker 1: He has to go through all twelve grades so he
- 35:44Speaker 1: could get the job to work at the hotel that
- 35:47Speaker 1: his dad owns Okay, so he has to like a
- 35:49Speaker 1: few weeks of each schooling you know, goes through through
- 35:52Speaker 1: the hardships of first and second grade, then eventually meets
- 35:57Speaker 1: Veronica Vaughan in third grade, and even the kids are
- 36:00Speaker 1: so funny in the movie. It has the musical number
- 36:03Speaker 1: at the end with do you have any more? Gum more?
- 36:07Speaker 1: Gum more, gum more gum. I don't remember you'll remember that.
- 36:10Speaker 2: I honestly don't remember the last time I saw Billy Madison.
- 36:14Speaker 2: I mean I love it. I mean I can, like
- 36:16Speaker 2: you said, I could recite half the movie to you, probably,
- 36:19Speaker 2: but I actually don't remember seeing it. Probably, I would
- 36:25Speaker 2: say within five years, I probably haven't seen it.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Close to the end, Veronica von shows up and
- 36:31Speaker 1: inspires Billy Madison to get up and they end up
- 36:34Speaker 1: singing a song like over Vernica, I thank you for
- 36:38Speaker 1: beating those shut out of me.
- 36:42Speaker 2: And then you know, I just remember when she was
- 36:44Speaker 2: tutoring him.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Oh that is, and then Farley and starts taking off
- 36:51Speaker 1: it's funny. He's great. And then the penguin.
- 36:54Speaker 2: If p and your Pants is cool, call me Miles Davis.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Then you have the opening sequence is so great. He's
- 37:00Speaker 1: he's drunk out of his mind once the new Dy magazine.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Then he sees this penguin if you remember that. Yeah,
- 37:07Speaker 1: oh Mith the peg. Yeah, it's two damn hot for
- 37:11Speaker 1: penguin to just be walking around. Billy Madison's so funny.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I had the biggest crush on both of these girls, though,
- 37:20Speaker 1: Veronica Vaughn played by Bridget Wilson, who would end up
- 37:22Speaker 1: marrying Pete Sampras I believe it or not. And then
- 37:26Speaker 1: Drew Barrymore, who's you know, more of a girl next
- 37:29Speaker 1: door sort of type. You know one sexy one's cute.
- 37:32Speaker 1: I love both of them. I think I've said this before.
- 37:36Speaker 1: If I was to marry any person in any movie,
- 37:39Speaker 1: it would be two characters. One would be Julia Gulia
- 37:44Speaker 1: Julia Hart from Wedding Singer. Two would be Mary from
- 37:47Speaker 1: There's Something about Mary. I love her. I love that
- 37:51Speaker 1: movie and it's just such a cool character.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Cameron Diaz never looked better than she did in The
- 37:57Speaker 2: Mess Correct.
- 37:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with that is correct. I gotta go
- 38:05Speaker 1: with oh man, this is tough. What are you going
- 38:08Speaker 1: with Madison?
- 38:09Speaker 2: I wrote down by Madison again, I've probably seen the
- 38:14Speaker 2: Wedding Singer. I don't know if I would say more,
- 38:18Speaker 2: probably maybe seen him the same amount of time, but
- 38:20Speaker 2: I've definitely seen the Wedding Singer more recently.
- 38:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna say this, if this makes sense, The Wedding
- 38:26Speaker 1: Singer is a better movie, without a doubt. I like
- 38:29Speaker 1: Billy Madison Moore. I've seen Billy Madison Moore. I've quoted
- 38:33Speaker 1: Billy Madison Moore again.
- 38:35Speaker 2: We're talking vintage Adam Sandler movies.
- 38:40Speaker 1: His first You know, you have to be touched.
- 38:43Speaker 2: You have to give it up for Billy Madison. I mean,
- 38:45Speaker 2: like you said, Billy Madison Happy Gilmour will put him
- 38:47Speaker 2: on the mat.
- 38:48Speaker 1: I'll go with Billy Maddens right.
- 38:50Speaker 2: His company name is Happy Happy Madison. I mean, it's
- 38:54Speaker 2: not if this is.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Another day though, maybe if I was in a relationship
- 38:59Speaker 1: or it was close like Valentine's Day, maybe you would
- 39:01Speaker 1: go Wedding Singer. They're both such sweet movies.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Again, like you said, completely different, like one is no brainer,
- 39:10Speaker 2: just dumb, laughing and then the Wedding Singer is an
- 39:13Speaker 2: actual movie. It's an actual comedy drama, you know.
- 39:17Speaker 1: All right, we got we got the two big heavy hitters.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Then in the main event, Happy Gilmore versus Billy Madison.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And I'll say this now, I think Billy Madison is
- 39:28Speaker 1: a funnier movie than Happy Gilmore. I think it's more childish. Yeah,
- 39:32Speaker 1: I think it's you know, more jokes per minute.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Well again, because more story in Happy Gilmore.
- 39:41Speaker 1: I think, ah, man, we watched the hell out of
- 39:47Speaker 1: Happy Gilmore. We own that one. That was one of
- 39:50Speaker 1: the few Standler movies that we owned. You know, we
- 39:52Speaker 1: would have to rent Billy Madison and we'd rent the
- 39:54Speaker 1: hell out of it. But Gilmore was on rotation in
- 39:58Speaker 1: our household non stop. I'm going to give it to
- 40:04Speaker 1: the number one seed, Happy Gilmore as the greatest Adam
- 40:10Speaker 1: Sandler movie of all time, and in my opinion, probably
- 40:14Speaker 1: the second best comedy of all time, really right behind
- 40:17Speaker 1: Tommy Boy for Me, which has heart Tommy Boys. I
- 40:21Speaker 1: love Tommy Boy because you care about the characters. Yes,
- 40:23Speaker 1: it's funny, but you actually feel bad for Tommy when
- 40:26Speaker 1: his dad dies, and you're rooting for him at the end.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Of the movie and you're rooting for Happy Gilmore at
- 40:31Speaker 1: the end of this golf tournament against you know, the
- 40:34Speaker 1: dastardly shooter McGavin, who, like we mentioned, is a fantastic villain.
- 40:38Speaker 1: The fantastic music, the cameos, the moments, the side characters,
- 40:43Speaker 1: the original caddy who he chokes. I don't know if
- 40:46Speaker 1: you remember the little blonde haired kid. He's just strangling him.
- 40:49Speaker 2: I don't know if you know this, but there's a
- 40:51Speaker 2: professional golfer named Will Zlaturus.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Okay, does he look like him?
- 40:55Speaker 2: Looks exactly like him? That on social media? Uh, he's uh,
- 41:02Speaker 2: he's written to him Adam Sandler, good luck today, my
- 41:05Speaker 2: caddy or whatever. And then there's one there's one tournament
- 41:10Speaker 2: I believe it's the Valvespar It just happened maybe three
- 41:12Speaker 2: or four weeks ago, where you're allowed normally it's just
- 41:15Speaker 2: the person's last name on the caddies back. Yeah, that one.
- 41:18Speaker 2: You're allowed to put whatever you want, so like some
- 41:20Speaker 2: people put like Emma's dad or whatever, and Will's Alataurus rights.
- 41:27Speaker 2: I think he puts Happy's caddy on the back of
- 41:30Speaker 2: his Yeah, I'll show you a picture after this. But
- 41:33Speaker 2: he looks exactly like the hair, the blonde hair or whatever.
- 41:37Speaker 2: And then the other caddies like, I think it breaks
- 41:40Speaker 2: a little to the right. He's like, that's because you're
- 41:41Speaker 2: only wearing one shoe.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he puts the rich cracker do. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:46Speaker 1: mart it. I mean, there's there's so many funny moments
- 41:51Speaker 1: from the start to the end of that movie. Uh,
- 41:55Speaker 1: just just when he bets Will Sasso's character, who's the
- 41:59Speaker 1: fact guy who's moving uh, you know, the Grandma Gilmore's
- 42:04Speaker 1: stuff out of the house, and he, you know, doesn't
- 42:06Speaker 1: driving cont just hit that guy, and he hits the
- 42:09Speaker 1: woman outside the window, gets the Mesta Measta lady, the
- 42:15Speaker 1: lady who works who's who's with the grandma at the
- 42:19Speaker 1: at the old folks home. Oh, mister mista, get me out,
- 42:25Speaker 1: you know that Mista Mesta lady. Yeah, I think I
- 42:27Speaker 1: just killed her. When he goes up to we can
- 42:30Speaker 1: just recite moments, but when he's trying to get his
- 42:33Speaker 1: original girlfriend back, like I want to kiss you. You
- 42:38Speaker 1: just see all these women and child and all these
- 42:41Speaker 1: people just staring at the audio of him just singing.
- 42:45Speaker 1: And then the Asian woman comes up. He said, oh
- 42:48Speaker 1: you don't want breakfast. Yeah, it's great, so many great
- 42:53Speaker 1: moments and music and uh, rooting for the characters, and
- 42:57Speaker 1: I'm rooting for Adam Sandler. I'm rooting for this movie
- 43:01Speaker 1: sequel to do good. And yeah, I hope it's we'll
- 43:03Speaker 1: see if it does good, we'll we'll have to have
- 43:05Speaker 1: you back on.
- 43:06Speaker 2: I mean, you have to go into it. It's never
- 43:09Speaker 2: gonna be as good as the original, obviously. I just
- 43:12Speaker 2: hope it's funny. I hope they don't, you know, lose
- 43:16Speaker 2: sight of what the first one was. But I also
- 43:19Speaker 2: hope it's not just the first one over again.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I think it's gonna have a lot of heart to it.
- 43:24Speaker 1: The trailer was very somber. It was action.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Didn't look I didn't watch it.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Maybe try and avoid it. It's not it's not a
- 43:30Speaker 1: bad trailer, but his his line delivery, he's very old,
- 43:34Speaker 1: he's very worn out. He just doesn't seem like he
- 43:36Speaker 1: wants to be there that. I don't know if that's
- 43:38Speaker 1: Adam Sandler or if I don't know if that's Kathy
- 43:40Speaker 1: Gilmour's character. I don't know if with which it is. Uh,
- 43:44Speaker 1: but there's very few jokes in the trailer. It's more
- 43:48Speaker 1: of taking a like a This is an iconic movie
- 43:51Speaker 1: and we're making the legacy sequel to it, so I'm
- 43:54Speaker 1: sure there will be jokes obviously, but I think I
- 43:56Speaker 1: think he has a respect for this character, and I'm
- 43:59Speaker 1: hoping he realizes how important this character is to countless
- 44:03Speaker 1: generations of people that he is going to do it justice.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Yeah, there's definitely people that started playing golf because of
- 44:10Speaker 2: this movie.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Just like people started boxing because of Rocky. I can
- 44:13Speaker 1: guarantee that my brother and me would go to the
- 44:17Speaker 1: driving range because of Happy Gilmore like you mentioned, and
- 44:19Speaker 1: a lot of my friends ended up, you know, joining
- 44:22Speaker 1: golf teams for the high school exclusively because of Happy Gilmore.
- 44:26Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens with with with Happy Gilmore. Jonathan.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Any closing words on the Sandler.
- 44:33Speaker 2: No, man, I think that was a great bracket. I
- 44:36Speaker 2: wouldn't have changed anything. I'm wondering order, Yeah, I think so. Well.
- 44:43Speaker 2: I know why you did? You really like wedding singer?
- 44:46Speaker 2: I do too.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Why would you have wedding singer at number four?
- 44:51Speaker 2: Maybe again, I think three, four and five you could
- 44:55Speaker 2: put in any order and nobody could really fault you
- 44:59Speaker 2: for it. You know what I mean. I think Little
- 45:00Speaker 2: Nicky's definitely eight, Mister Deed's definitely seven, fifty First Dates
- 45:04Speaker 2: definitely six yes, yes, and Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison
- 45:07Speaker 2: one and two. I think three four five is where
- 45:08Speaker 2: you can get into a debate.
- 45:10Speaker 3: Yep.
- 45:10Speaker 2: And again, like you said, whatever, it's whatever mood you're in.
- 45:15Speaker 2: You know, do I want to watch a dumb comedy
- 45:17Speaker 2: about a football player who's not smart? Do I want
- 45:23Speaker 2: to watch a heartfelt movie about him with a kid.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Do I want to watch a rom com with him
- 45:31Speaker 2: and Drew barrymore? So Again, I think you could have
- 45:34Speaker 2: put those three in any order. But I think we
- 45:36Speaker 2: did good work. No upsets. Obviously. The close one was
- 45:40Speaker 2: water Boy Big Daddy.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And it just goes to show you how many iconic movies,
- 45:45Speaker 1: I mean, all the quotes that we were throwing down
- 45:46Speaker 1: through all right, Yeah, we're rooting for Adam Sandler. I
- 45:49Speaker 1: don't want to not like his movies. I always give
- 45:51Speaker 1: him the benefit of the doubt. I watched hub Halloween
- 45:54Speaker 1: from a few years ago. It actually wasn't I didn't
- 45:56Speaker 1: think it was that bad.
- 45:57Speaker 2: See, I think I liked his other ones a little
- 45:59Speaker 2: more than you do. I like, just go with it,
- 46:01Speaker 2: didn't care for it, Blended, hated it? Uh, And what's
- 46:04Speaker 2: the other one?
- 46:05Speaker 1: Chuck and Larry Chuck.
- 46:07Speaker 2: I actually just watched that the other day.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Not a fan.
- 46:09Speaker 2: No, No, I think that movie's hilarious.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I heard Johan's not bad.
- 46:13Speaker 2: I've never watched its, Zohan. I couldn't do you like Zulander?
- 46:18Speaker 1: Not really?
- 46:18Speaker 2: Yeah? See, I watched like ten minutes and I turned
- 46:20Speaker 2: it off. I was like, and I like dumb. Yeah,
- 46:23Speaker 2: I like dumb funny. I love Dumb and Dummer. I
- 46:25Speaker 2: love East van Ta. Yeah that one. I just I
- 46:27Speaker 2: got to the scene where they had like a like
- 46:30Speaker 2: a gas fight at the gas station and the guy
- 46:31Speaker 2: at a match, and I was like, all right, I
- 46:32Speaker 2: can't watch this anymore. But there's one other one that's
- 46:35Speaker 2: kind of like just go with it? And uh, just
- 46:37Speaker 2: go with it is with Jennifer Aniston's Blended is with
- 46:41Speaker 2: Drew Barrymore. What's the one with Brooklyn.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Decker that's also with just go with it? Oh, that's
- 46:47Speaker 1: the same, like the side piece woman, I got it
- 46:50Speaker 1: because that's too familiar with the plot.
- 46:52Speaker 2: No, No, he meets her and then he has to
- 46:55Speaker 2: pretend that Jennifer Andson is his ex wife because he
- 46:57Speaker 2: used to wear the ring.
- 46:58Speaker 1: And then that's how he got there off.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and you.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Know there's there's Pixels, and then The Jack and Jail
- 47:05Speaker 1: and uh so many other crappy movies, even the the
- 47:09Speaker 1: remake of The Longest.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Yard Mystery Murder Mystery, right bother with those with Jennifer Anison,
- 47:16Speaker 2: I think.
- 47:16Speaker 1: But like I said, I liked you b Halloween from
- 47:18Speaker 1: a few years ago. It's like a you know, you
- 47:20Speaker 1: have to look at it as like an earnest type
- 47:22Speaker 1: of movie, like one of those goofy early nineties kids movies.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Fanglish.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a good one. And then on Cut
- 47:29Speaker 1: Gems was very good.
- 47:30Speaker 2: I did like Cut Gems.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Very intense. But you know, like we said, we we
- 47:35Speaker 1: love Adam Sandler. We're rooting for him. You know, he's
- 47:37Speaker 1: a he's a New York guy in the sense, you know,
- 47:39Speaker 1: he's a big Yankee fan. He's a big Jets fan.
- 47:42Speaker 1: He's from the I want to say the New England area,
- 47:44Speaker 1: but he.
- 47:45Speaker 2: Grew up movie about the Jets.
- 47:47Speaker 1: He should well, he has the kid watching the goddamn Jets. Yeah, daddy,
- 47:53Speaker 1: So yeah, we love Sandler. Hopefully maybe he'll listen to
- 47:56Speaker 1: this podcast and we can have them on. That's the goal,
- 47:59Speaker 1: that's the I would expect nothing less, all right, Jonathan,
- 48:01Speaker 1: So long, alright, buddy, see you next time.
- 48:06Speaker 3: H
