- 0:00Welcome back to the Elon Musk podcast.
- 0:02This is a show where we discuss. The critical.
- 0:04Crossroads the shape. SpaceX.
- 0:06Tesla X, The Boring Company, and Neuralink and I'm your host Will
- 0:11Walden. These are turbulent times at
- 0:13Tesla because the executive that overseas cyber truck
- 0:17manufacturing had recently left the company, marking another
- 0:21high profile departure under CEO Elon Musk's leadership.
- 0:25Their exit was announced via a LinkedIn post celebrating his
- 0:29fifth anniversary with Tesla, a tenure that spans significant
- 0:32roles across various manufacturing facilities,
- 0:34including the Shanghai Gigafactory and also the Austin
- 0:38factory. Now Zoo's departure adds to a
- 0:43series of exits by senior management at Tesla, raising
- 0:46questions about the stability of its leadership.
- 0:49His company grapples with challenges surrounding its
- 0:51latest vehicle, the Cyber Truck. Now, this electric pickup has
- 0:54been plagued with production issues, from its unconventional
- 0:58design to concerns about the quality of its assembly,
- 1:01suggesting deeper problems within Tesla's operations.
- 1:04The specific reasons behind Zhu's departure remain unclear,
- 1:09with no confirmation on whether he was laid off or left
- 1:12voluntarily. His exit coincides with Tesla
- 1:15facing a string of manufacturing setbacks and public relations
- 1:19challenges, notably a recent recall involving every sold
- 1:23cyber truck in the US due to a serious flaw in the design of
- 1:27the accelerator pedal. Now, Tesla has also been
- 1:30undergoing broad organizational layoffs, impacting at least 10%
- 1:34of its workforce, with rumors suggesting the cuts could reach
- 1:37up to 20%. These layoffs have spanned
- 1:40across several departments, most heavily affecting those involved
- 1:44with vehicle manufacturing and new product launches.
- 1:48Now, I missed these tumultuous times at Tesla.
- 1:51The head of product launches, Rich Auto, also departed,
- 1:55expressing dissatisfaction with the company's direction and a
- 1:58very candid LinkedIn post that was later removed.
- 2:01And Otto's resignation reflects growing discontent among Tesla
- 2:04employees, exacerbated by recent firings and ongoing operational
- 2:09challenges. Now, Tesla's ambitious goals for
- 2:12the Cyber Truck have also seen setbacks in its execution.
- 2:17Despite achieving a production milestone of about 1000 units
- 2:20per week, numerous customers have reported significant
- 2:24quality issues, including unexpected coolant leaks and
- 2:27random shutdowns, further tarnishing Tesla's reputation.
- 2:32Other executives have recently left Tesla, including Drill
- 2:36Baglino, former President, former Senior Vice President of
- 2:40Powertrain and Energy Engineering, and Martin Vicha,
- 2:43the Vice President of Investor Relations.
- 2:46These departures signal a potentially worrying trend of
- 2:48instability within Tesla's upper management ranks.
- 2:52Now, in response to these ongoing issues, Tesla has been
- 2:55pushing forward with his production goals.
- 2:57Last month, the company reported meeting its target production
- 3:00rate for the cyber truck. Although it remains to be seen
- 3:02whether these vehicles will meet customer expectations,
- 3:05especially for those willing to pay up to $100,000 for the
- 3:10truck. Now, the repeated executive
- 3:13exits and persistent production problems suggest possible
- 3:16strategic misalignments with Tesla, especially as the company
- 3:19shifts focus towards autonomous driving technology under Musk's
- 3:24new direction. This pivot raises questions
- 3:27about the future of Tesla's traditional electric vehicle
- 3:29manufacturing operations and also the $25,000 Tesla model,
- 3:36whatever it's going to be called now Jews Own words on LinkedIn
- 3:42reflects the mixed sentiment that's going on right now.
- 3:45They celebrated their achievements with Tesla
- 3:48Cybertruck program, but also marked an end to his journey
- 3:51with the company. His leadership was crucial in
- 3:54ramping up production to a significant throughput, which
- 3:57makes his departure all the more impactful.
- 4:00The frequent leadership changes in layoffs are not just internal
- 4:02issues, but have started to affect Tesla's public image and
- 4:06also the stock price. Recent reports suggest a decline
- 4:09in Tesla stock value correlating with the company's layoffs and
- 4:13ongoing production issues. But looking forward, Tesla's
- 4:17strategy remains under scrutiny as it navigates to these high
- 4:20profile exits and production challenges.
- 4:23The company's ability to stabilize its workforce and then
- 4:27execute on its manufacturing goals will be crucial to
- 4:32maintain investor confidence and customer satisfaction.
- 4:36And in light of these developments, Tesla's road ahead
- 4:39appears fraught with challenges. The company must address both
- 4:43internal management issues and external production quality
- 4:46concerns to regain stability and ensure the success of its future
- 4:50projects, including the Cyber Truck.
- 4:52And as Tesla continues to navigate these turbulent times,
- 4:57we will be focusing on the Cyber Truck production.
- 5:01There may be systemic issues. Involved.
- 5:05And the outcome of these efforts will likely have a lasting
- 5:07impact on Tesla's position in the EV market.
- 5:11Could be sliding, which is time will tell with these things,
- 5:15With so many people being fired and executives leaving, it's a
- 5:19mass departure for Tesla now. The broader implications for the
- 5:23EV industry could impact supply chains and competitor
- 5:27strategies, and they'll also be influenced by how Tesla manages
- 5:31its current challenges. And ultimately, the departure of
- 5:35these executives and other key players in Tesla shows that
- 5:39there's struggles within the company.
- 5:41Not everyone's on board with Elon's new direction or the
- 5:44change of direction when they think everything's going well.
- 5:48These issues, if not duress, could hinder Tesla's growth and
- 5:52its influence in the rapidly evolving EV sector.
- 5:55For now, Tesla's focus on ramping up production and
- 5:59resolving quality issues remains paramount.
- 6:01How the company overcomes its current hurdles will be crucial
- 6:04in determining its future trajectory and ability to
- 6:07innovate. Hey, thank you so much for
