- 0:15thinks maybe the 2-3 and four teams are below what I'm
- 0:19assuming he will say. Texas Tech at the top of that
- 0:22list. We'll do some basketball with
- 0:24Matt Poston's as well. Trent's plays of the day coming
- 0:27up a 2 pack. Just American League games
- 0:30today, the early ones, Seattle and Detroit in Detroit gets
- 0:33going in three O 8 seven O 8 First pitch local time, local
- 0:37central time for the Jays and the Yanks.
- 0:40The first series tied up at 1 apiece and the Yanks tried to
- 0:44stave off elimination. Have some breaking news for you?
- 0:47What have you got? Just into the e-mail inbox, the
- 0:51new Circus Sports Iowa app is here.
- 0:54Is it it Is this from Circa? We're excited to introduce the
- 0:58new Circus Sports app in Iowa. Designed with a sleek new
- 1:02interface and upgraded features including dynamic transparent
- 1:05limits and biometric sign insurance, the updated app
- 1:08delivers a streamlined and enhanced user experience for our
- 1:12Iowa players. That's what I will be playing
- 1:14around with when I get off the air and get home to about 2:30
- 1:17because we everybody, if you're an existing circuit customer,
- 1:20you have to actually re download your app, correct?
- 1:23You have to start from scratch again, But this is what they've
- 1:26been. I mean, this project's been
- 1:28ongoing for, what, 2 years maybe, and finally got all the
- 1:33clearances, all the approvals that it needs to get to get out
- 1:36of the lab and get the state clearances.
- 1:39So good, good stuff there. Maybe we should have Mike Palm
- 1:42on to talk about it tomorrow for a couple of minutes because
- 1:45they've been awaiting it. All right, which sounds like
- 1:47we're awaiting Matt Snyder on baseball, May or may not get to
- 1:51Matt here today. I hope that we do pick his
- 1:56baseball brain and what we've seen and what we think we're
- 1:59going to see going forward if Milwaukee comes out of this.
- 2:03And it certainly seems like his forecon conclusion.
- 2:05I hate to say it. I'd love to see the Cubs advance
- 2:09and I just don't feel that. Will they give the Dodgers or
- 2:12the Phillies a fight? I mean, is there a chance the
- 2:15Brewers could represent? Of course there's a chance in
- 2:17sports, but realistically, what's the likelihood that it's
- 2:22the Brewers from the National League?
- 2:24Well, this was the best team in the National League.
- 2:28They played in a division that had two other playoff teams, a
- 2:32Cardinals team that hung around, and also a team that had maybe
- 2:35the best pitcher in baseball and Paul Skeens.
- 2:37So you look at some of the underlying numbers, right, with
- 2:42Milwaukee and runners in scoring position, 2 out hitting, Those
- 2:46are the kind of things that aren't sustainable to do year
- 2:49after year after year. But over the course of a season,
- 2:52yes, sometimes they're outliers and that's certainly the case
- 2:55for Milwaukee this year. Have you seen anything that says
- 2:58out this team slowing down? No.
- 3:00And and Cheerio was back in the line up last night.
- 3:03That was huge. Huge.
- 3:04How about him getting tangled up over at first base?
- 3:06Did you see I? Didn't see it.
- 3:07No, I didn't see it. It was.
- 3:09On the air from DNSP Swanson as he threw it up the left field
- 3:13line, you saw that trying to get a force out at second base.
- 3:16So Cheerio was the batter and he sculpted that ball, which was
- 3:20weird because Dansby Swanson had time, didn't he just made a bad
- 3:25throw? And in fact, I was so surprised
- 3:27by it, I thought that maybe Horner just missed it.
- 3:29Dansby Swanson doesn't do that. Very often.
- 3:31But he did there. So as Churrio is rounding, first
- 3:35he gets tangled up with Bush over there, and then you kind of
- 3:40see him and there's a little bit of a little hitch in the giddy
- 3:43up. Oh boy.
- 3:46And yet they called time. He ran over then to the third
- 3:48base coach, I don't know, instruction, whatever it was.
- 3:52And he looked OK now, but he came out of the game late,
- 3:55right? He did.
- 3:56Was that part of it, do you think?
- 3:57I think more than anything it's just rough 73.
- 4:00Let's not push because if they are going to beat the doctors.
- 4:03No, they need him. They're going to win a World
- 4:05Series. They have to have him part of
- 4:08life. He is so good.
- 4:09No, he's a hell of a player. And so is Christian Yelich.
- 4:11Yes, who's playing out of his mind how William did?
- 4:14Prayers. He'll, he'll go through those
- 4:15stretches where well, he's cooked again and then he pulls
- 4:19himself out of it every single time.
- 4:21It's incredible what he is able to do time in and time out of
- 4:25just being able to find a way. He has been absolutely
- 4:28outstanding of that. But if you put up this roster,
- 4:31if you put up the Brewers roster and the Brewers starters and
- 4:35remove the Cubs, remove the Tigers, because other than
- 4:38Scubble and I think we can, well, maybe not Seattle, but
- 4:41this is, I mean, who knows these guys?
- 4:44Who are these guys? Let's say it's the Dodgers
- 4:46because the Dodgers are up to nothing.
- 4:48Yeah, Dodgers versus Brewers lineup.
- 4:51Big advantage. Starting rotation.
- 4:57Brewers come on one through 4. It's the Brewers.
- 5:07Take the name off the chest. OK.
- 5:10And look at the what this team is, because you told me all
- 5:12summer long that the Dodgers don't have it.
- 5:14So now let's play this game. The Brewers.
- 5:16Woodruff got a chance of getting back.
- 5:18Or is he done, done, done I? Think done.
- 5:20Done. OK, so Priester's been
- 5:22unbelievable. He's been great, I'll give you
- 5:23that. Miss Zorowski looked
- 5:24outstanding. But out of the bullpen, and I
- 5:27think that's where he's going to remain.
- 5:29Peralta's had a nice year. And the other side?
- 5:35Snell Outstanding. Snell's looking like a Cy Young
- 5:39winner again. What do you think about Tani on
- 5:40the Bump? Good, good, good.
- 5:43But six innings at most? Yep, Yep.
- 5:46Yamamoto Glass now Dodgers don't.
- 5:54You go to vain of Dodgers, I would be on the Brewers side
- 5:57bullpen. Does the kids, what's the name?
- 6:02Saki? Does he pitch like he's been
- 6:05pitching since they brought him up for the Miners?
- 6:07Well, there's one. Yeah.
- 6:09Jack Dreyer is 2. Yeah.
- 6:11Bullpen's not great, I'll give you that.
- 6:13Give you that. Big advantage.
- 6:14Yeah, Will Smith, Contreras push.
- 6:18Yeah. Freddie Freeman.
- 6:21Andrew Vaughn. Freeman, obviously, but closer
- 6:26than you'd. Think.
- 6:27Come on, Andrew Vaughn's been. A The Vaughn Great story.
- 6:29The Vaughn in a Milwaukee uniform.
- 6:31Great story. Closer than you think.
- 6:33Yeah, Mookie Betts, DH. Yeah, big advantage.
- 6:42Big. Advantage Big advantage for the
- 6:44Dodgers. Max Muncie, how about this?
- 6:47Advantage in the dugout. Big advantage.
- 6:50You know what? One of them's got a World
- 6:52Series, Trent. One of them also has the biggest
- 6:54payroll in baseball year after year after.
- 6:55Year I would take Pat Murphy didn't let me finish my
- 6:57question, my answer. I, I was, I was jumping out of
- 7:00you because I get it. You were setting it up because
- 7:03if you were going to go there, I was going to fire right back in
- 7:05you. I'm not a Roberts guy.
- 7:06I'm Big Pat Murphy's. Pat Murphy's, I've yet to see
- 7:11him push the wrong button. I'm sure he has, but we don't
- 7:13watch every Brewers game. But he's really, really good.
- 7:16I mean, look at the Brewers want that.
- 7:18The great Council. Pat Murphy, who knows what would
- 7:21would have happened if Council didn't leave town, right?
- 7:23He could still be the bench coach or he could be somewhere
- 7:25else doing what he's doing. It's the Dodgers.
- 7:30Advantage. What would you lay that series
- 7:32price? Let's go to the Ken Miller
- 7:33casino here. I am ready to fire away.
- 7:35What kind of price are you going to give me on the Milwaukee
- 7:38It's. Going to be unfairly priced
- 7:39because it's the Dodgers. It is.
- 7:41I don't know what do you need plus plus what. 180 Oh, I
- 7:47wouldn't even need that much. 160 If I get 160 I am firing on
- 7:51the Brewers home field advantage, a team that I like.
- 7:55No, I never thought about that. They do have home field
- 7:57advantage. You know, I never thought about
- 7:58that aspect. But look at the Dodgers.
- 8:00They're just in Philadelphia and they won the first two games.
- 8:03I don't think it matters to them where they're going.
- 8:07I I don't think it does. I think that's what we're going
- 8:10to get, obviously. I mean, look at not going very
- 8:13far on a limb. The Phillies are down O2 and the
- 8:16Cubs are down O2. Phillies are a nice team.
- 8:19They're a plucky team. They're a plucky team.
- 8:22The Phillies are the small market team.
- 8:24Who? The Brewers?
- 8:25Oh, the Brewers. Yeah, I think, he said.
- 8:26No, no, no. Not the Phillies, the Brew Crew.
- 8:29Keith wants to talk about his Brewers.
- 8:31Keith, how are you? What are we missing on this
- 8:33team? Oh, I don't know, we're missing
- 8:35anything at all. I, I, I'm just amazed again at
- 8:38the you just alluded to it. And you mentioned something the
- 8:41other day also, Ken, about, about Murphy, what he's done in
- 8:45these two years. Well, frankly, what he's done
- 8:48the last few years with the Brewers.
- 8:50But to be honest, it's really amazing.
- 8:52I know, I know he's known as the big communicator.
- 8:55I know he tells his players that when when he meets them for the
- 8:58first time or he communicates and he says you'll never hear me
- 9:02say something about you that I don't say to you, which means
- 9:06he's very clear with his players too.
- 9:07And he's been known. Now, I can't really, I can't
- 9:10cite examples, but I know it's been said about him that he'll
- 9:13take players out in the middle of a game if he doesn't like the
- 9:16pitches that they've taken, they should have swung at or the
- 9:19pitches that they swung at, they should have taken.
- 9:21Pitch selection also in the field is like it is like their
- 9:23demeanor in the field. He might take them out once in a
- 9:25while. So there's a tension there.
- 9:27So he's a players coach, but also he's he's he's very exact
- 9:31about things. And they certainly overachieve
- 9:34regarding their payroll and their talent.
- 9:36So nervous about, you know, you got to win three.
- 9:38You can't just win 2. So still kind of nervous about
- 9:41this. The other thing is, you know,
- 9:43Craig Council gets a lot of heat from Oh my God, he's a he's a,
- 9:47he's a great guy. You know, him and him and Murphy
- 9:49are very close. Murphy reviews him.
- 9:51He's just he's a he's a, he's a man's man.
- 9:53He's just a kind, caring man. So it's hard to root against
- 9:56him. But I am because I'm a rumors
- 9:58fan. So somebody has this Keith in
- 10:01the scenes council obviously was the face, he was the manager.
- 10:06How much, how much maybe credit should Murphy get for those that
- 10:09for the council achievements for those Brewers years where he was
- 10:12the manager? I know Murphy wouldn't want it
- 10:14because he's his bench coach, but how much, how much credit do
- 10:17you think should should ultimately go to to Pat Murphy
- 10:21for that council success? Well, I think probably most of
- 10:24it if you just go by deduction, by reasoning.
- 10:27I know, I know when council left to go to Chicago, there are a
- 10:31lot of players are saying, well, thank God Pat is still here,
- 10:34which it doesn't sound like a lot back then, but now when you
- 10:37think about it, you're saying, oh, wow.
- 10:39And don't forget now, Ken, the Brewers themselves, the front
- 10:43office, I'm not sure they knew because don't forget, they
- 10:45offered council a contract. That council turned out an
- 10:48extension before he signed with Chicago.
- 10:51So I'm not sure what the Brewers knew, what they had in Pat
- 10:54Murphy. And Woodruff is out, correct?
- 10:56I mean we, we, we won't see. That's what I hear.
- 10:59Yeah, I know he's out this series, obviously, maybe the
- 11:02World Series if if they get there.
- 11:05I have not heard that, but but I'm I'm waiting, but I, I'm
- 11:08anxious so I can't count my chickens before they hatch.
- 11:11I'm I'm anxious perhaps for a, for a Dodgers, Brewers, you
- 11:15know, final, but you know, again, you got to win three.
- 11:18You can't just win 2. So we'll see.
- 11:20But thanks guys. Yeah, Keith, appreciate the
- 11:22call. Good luck to your Brewers.
- 11:23It's going to be a fascinating series.
- 11:24I think it's over, personally. Tayon, who pitches tomorrow for
- 11:28the Brewers. Have they named their starter
- 11:29yet? Will it be Priester?
- 11:31Yeah, Priester is listed here, so.
- 11:34He's had a hell of a year. Yes, he has.
- 11:37Three what? A bit funny was good last time,
- 11:39no? Absolutely, yeah.
- 11:41I mean, he's the guy that I trust most, you know, certainly
- 11:43out. Of the cage Horton injury,
- 11:44right? What could have been?
- 11:46Jesus, what could have been. But you know what?
- 11:49As well as he's pitched, the bats aren't coming live.
- 11:52The bats are just completely and that's been the story of this
- 11:55Cubs team, you know, in the middle of August to the end of
- 11:58September. They had their moments where
- 12:00they broke out of it and scored some runs.
- 12:02But PCA has not finished the season.
- 12:05Why you can go down the list. I mean, it's a long list of
- 12:09guys. You think they're going to
- 12:10they're going to regret the trade.
- 12:11Cam Smith for Kyle Tucker, is that a miss?
- 12:16They got to the playoffs. They won a playoff game in
- 12:18Wrigley for the first time in what?
- 12:20You know, eight years and won a series, Yeah.
- 12:22I would say no. I mean, it was time to push but.
- 12:25He had two hits in the He had two hits in the series.
- 12:27But I mean, it was singles. It was time to push your chips
- 12:29out. OK, It didn't work.
- 12:31No, that's going to happen in trades.
- 12:32Give you that? Yeah, you're right.
- 12:33Give them credit for trying. Yes, they tried.
- 12:36Because look at. That's been a time knock on this
- 12:38front office. Yes it has and it was again in
- 12:40this trade deadline when they didn't go out and get a starter.
- 12:43But if they would have got a starter, you know who to.
- 12:45If you get a frontline starter, you know who everybody's ask was
- 12:49Kate Horton. Right.
- 12:51What are you going to do? Well, that that was not.
- 12:53Negotiable. It was not negotiable, right?
- 12:56And if that's the return, well, that's what you have to do, you
- 12:58know, kind of going forward. Who do you like in the Mariners
- 13:01Tiger series? Now is that?
- 13:02Trent, that's though, that's kind of the one that I've least
- 13:05paid attention to. 232 games, but then they're up against
- 13:09Sunday night, they're up against all the college games on
- 13:11Saturday I saw. The Mariners have school's
- 13:14number. Yeah, they have school's number,
- 13:17I think. The Mariners, I think.
- 13:22So today it's Logan Gilbert against Jack Flaherty.
- 13:25And what if didn't Flaherty pitch well in his last start?
- 13:28He did, yeah. He was good against the
- 13:30Guardians. Logan Gilbert, on the other
- 13:32hand, he, it's like they're, they're not ready for him to go
- 13:39out there. A lot of people thought he was
- 13:40going to get the start in Game 2.
- 13:41They pushed him to game three. I don't know the, the numbers
- 13:44look OK, but I just something to wonder about at minimum with
- 13:48Logan Gilbert. I give the advantage certainly
- 13:50to Seattle on that front for this game.
- 13:53They're -140 something like that in Detroit.
- 13:57I don't know. Is it a fate of Flaherty?
- 14:00I might get involved in some pepper pitcher props.
- 14:02So we got that coming up here at 150 all.
- 14:04Right, We're going to talk to Matt Postons on the Big 12
- 14:07coming up. I'm guessing he'll have Texas
- 14:09Tech right at the top of that heap.
- 14:12Houston's the favorite basketball wise, right?
- 14:15Have you seen any basketball numbers from from the Big 12
- 14:17yet? As far as conference odds, they
- 14:20have to be. Texas Tech would be on that
- 14:22list. I'm I wonder where Kansas is.
- 14:25They were. When we went through the Bart
- 14:26Torvick numbers last week, I think they were listed six that.
- 14:30Far down in. The Big 12, which is, I mean,
- 14:33it's unthinkable, right? It is.
- 14:34We are just so used to that team.
- 14:36Where was Iowa State? 4th, if memory serves.
- 14:40So let me find conference winner, all right, Regular
- 14:42season conference winner. This is from DraftKings Houston,
- 14:46the betting favorite. Pretty significant.
- 14:48Plus 145 BYU, the second choice. Sneaky one.
- 14:52Yeah, the number. One player in the country coming
- 14:53in plus 425 on the Cougs. Texas Tech with all that money 6
- 14:58to 1. Kansas is the 4th betting
- 15:00choice. A + 750.
- 15:02Arizona 8:00 to 1:00 and then Iowa State 9 to 1.
- 15:05Where's Baylor? Baylor, 25 to one.
- 15:08Wow. If you want to jump aboard, no I
- 15:10don't. The Bears.
- 15:11I've already jumped aboard Texas Tech.
- 15:12I got a Texas Tech 2. Step football and basketball.
- 15:16Now there was Bart Torvik numbers Houston, the number one
- 15:18team in the country, number one of the Big 12.
- 15:21BYU second, Arizona third, Iowa State 4th and the 15th ranked
- 15:25team in the country. Kansas at 17.
- 15:28Texas Tech down at 27 in the numbers from Bart Torvik, 35th
- 15:32in the country for Baylor. Cincinnati, in fact, in front of
- 15:34them in the Big 12 with his numbers.
- 15:37All right, we'll take a time out.
- 15:38We'll come back. We will be joined by Matt
- 15:41Poston's from Heartland College Sports.
- 15:43More Big 12 conversation coming up.

- 16:46Playing around with it. I'm working on it right now.
- 16:48Yes, some fun bells and whistles, is that right?
- 16:51Absolutely, Good luck to it and excited about the Circus Sports
- 16:54Iowa app. Absolutely.
- 16:56We'll get more of that later on. Trends, plays of the day coming
- 16:58up. Right now, it's our buddy Matt
- 16:59Postons. He covers the Big 12 football
- 17:01and men's college basketball at Heartland College Sports, and he
- 17:05joins us. Hello Matt Postons, how are you?
- 17:09I'm good guys. How are you?
- 17:10Doing well. Obviously we'll get to Texas
- 17:13Tech in a second, but I want to start with BYU, if you wouldn't
- 17:17mind. They are on Iowa State schedule
- 17:19coming up here toward the end of October.
- 17:22They're five and O, and they're five and O overall, 2 and O.
- 17:26Thus far, they've been really good.
- 17:29Your thoughts on this BYU squad? Are you buying this team?
- 17:33They've beaten who? They've beaten Colorado and West
- 17:35Virginia. So not the who's who of the
- 17:37conference, but is BYU. I think potentially, I think
- 17:42we'll know in a couple of weeks. You know, there was a they got
- 17:44to go to Arizona and that's a game like the Wildcats really
- 17:47have their eye on in terms of trying to get themselves in a
- 17:50position where they could be, you know, competitive with the
- 17:53top half of this conference. And then they get Utah after
- 17:55that. And obviously that's a huge game
- 17:57for them every year. I was at that game last year at
- 18:00Utah, and we all know how that ended and what their athletic
- 18:03director said after the game. It was it was quite the theme.
- 18:06But, you know, I think those two games are going to tell us a lot
- 18:09about where they're at going into the back half of the
- 18:11conference plate. I think the good thing for Iowa
- 18:13State, if you're really thinking of it from a strategic
- 18:15standpoint is you're getting them after that game.
- 18:17And last year they beat Utah. They lost the next two games.
- 18:21So I think we'll see where they're at in the next couple of
- 18:24games. I think they're, I think they're
- 18:26kind of for real. But I always worry about a true
- 18:29freshman, a quarterback that's a that's a lot to ask for true 2
- 18:32freshmen to lead a A-Team to a potential conference
- 18:36championship that. It was a 10/3 game with Texas
- 18:39Tech in Utah, and then the fourth quarter happened and the
- 18:42final score I don't think was indicative of what happened in
- 18:45that game. Are we maybe too quickly pushing
- 18:49Utah to the side? How much do you believe in Kyle
- 18:52Whittingham's team and what they're going to do here in the
- 18:54back half of the season? Do you still consider them a
- 18:57contender to get to the championship and ultimately
- 18:59maybe win the championship? I think if they beat Arizona
- 19:03State this weekend, I think they're a contender.
- 19:05I think if they lose Arizona State this weekend, I think
- 19:07they're done. From that standpoint, they still
- 19:09have a good season. They could still finish seven
- 19:11and two in conference. But I mean, for all intents and
- 19:14purposes, to me, this is the game that either, you know,
- 19:17keeps them in the conference race or doesn't.
- 19:19Because if you think about how things ended up last year, four
- 19:22teams ended up tied for first, seven and two.
- 19:24Three others finished tied for fifth at six and three.
- 19:28If you lose 2 conference games, you're unless a lot of things,
- 19:31unless a lot of parody happens in the conference, you're pretty
- 19:34much toast when it comes to that.
- 19:35So with Utah already, with the loss to Texas Tech, they have to
- 19:39beat Arizona State because if they lose this game, think about
- 19:41this, they would have tiebreaker deficits against Texas Tech and
- 19:44West Virginia. They've still got Baylor on
- 19:46their schedule. They still got Kansas on their
- 19:48schedule. They still got BYU on their
- 19:50schedule. So for me, we find out this
- 19:52weekend if they're going to be a contender, they have to find a
- 19:54way to beat Arizona State. What did you see when you
- 19:57watched Iowa State? Cincinnati, obviously.
- 19:59Iowa State. Both of their starting corners.
- 20:01Runners around, as you know, they couldn't stop the run in
- 20:04the first half. They shored that up a little
- 20:06bit, but Cincinnati was the better team on the field.
- 20:09What do you make? What was your take away from
- 20:10Iowa State? Still top 25 ranked, but now
- 20:14fall to five and one, two and one conference.
- 20:17It's unfortunate they came out of the, the, by the way, they
- 20:19did. I mean, that's kind of the when
- 20:22you're thinking about whether or not you come out of a bite, do
- 20:24you come out sluggish? Do you come out sharp?
- 20:25And they, you know, admittedly they came out pretty sluggish.
- 20:28I think the good thing for them is it's just one loss.
- 20:30And you know, we just talked about if you've lost a game,
- 20:33you're still kind of in it. If you lose 2 or more, you're
- 20:36going to have a really hard time staying in it.
- 20:38So, you know, for them there are two good things.
- 20:41One, I think their schedule is a little bit more manageable the
- 20:45rest of the season and some of the other teams in the
- 20:47conference, although obviously they do still have that game
- 20:50with Arizona State coming up. But I think every other game on
- 20:53their schedule I think is winnable for them.
- 20:55And they have a game on everybody else because they
- 20:56played the other conference game early.
- 20:58So they have a little, to me, they have a little more margin
- 21:01for error. But whoever you know that, you
- 21:04know, with their starting cornerbacks down, that new group
- 21:08of starters is going to have to come on and come on quick.
- 21:11Because, you know, that's where Cincinnati exploited them on
- 21:13Saturday was, you know, being able to get down the field and
- 21:16get past that last line of defense.
- 21:18Those guys are going to have to pick it up and pick it up quick.
- 21:21I suspect the run game will get better over the next few weeks.
- 21:24I think Cincinnati was really geared toward trying to stop the
- 21:28run and did a good job of that. You know, I, I, I just feel like
- 21:32they're still in it. But you know, that Arizona State
- 21:35game to me is the game that's going to tell me if they can
- 21:38stay in it for the long haul or not.
- 21:40Speaking of Cincinnati, watching them now the last couple of
- 21:42weeks against Kansas and of course Iowa State last week,
- 21:45this team could score. I don't know defensively what
- 21:47exactly they got over there and getting Corley on, but that
- 21:50definitely helped. But they got a lot of work to do
- 21:52on that side. But Soresby, the way he's
- 21:54chucking around Goody has got as much speed as anybody in the Big
- 21:5612. They could run it.
- 21:58This is a very dangerous team. Just enough to be a contender,
- 22:02though. Or they're a nice team.
- 22:03Maybe they're eight and four. What do you see out of the
- 22:05Bearcats? I think they're an interesting
- 22:08team because they're they're better than I expected them to
- 22:11be, to be honest. And you look at their next two
- 22:14games, UCF, Oklahoma State, very manageable games to me.
- 22:17If they win both of those, they're going to be both
- 22:19eligible. First of all, under Satterfield
- 22:20for the first time. And then the back half of their
- 22:22schedule, they've got Baylor, Utah, Arizona, BYUTCU.
- 22:26It sets them up for a pretty tough November.
- 22:29But you know, The thing is if you're 4 and O at that .5 and O
- 22:32in that point come in in the conference, that part of
- 22:35conference play, then then you're a contender.
- 22:37So I feel like I put UCF as my most important game of the week
- 22:41in my piece up at Heartland today.
- 22:44And I put it up there because if Cincinnati does want to be a
- 22:46contender, that's not a game they can lose.
- 22:49They can't afford to lose the UCF.
- 22:51They can't afford to lose the Oklahoma State.
- 22:53Those are the games you have to win if you want to be a
- 22:56contender in this conference because they've got some
- 22:58difficult games coming up. I'm I'm kind of on the fence
- 23:01that they're going to lose one of those next two games either
- 23:02to UCF or Oklahoma State, and that might burst the bubble.
- 23:05But I still think they can get to a bowl game and have a good
- 23:08zoo. What did you take?
- 23:09What was your take away from a TCU who struggled?
- 23:14I thought in the 1st 3/4 of the game against Colorado Hoover was
- 23:18good. I mean he's threw 4 touchdowns.
- 23:20Hard to be critical of that but I thought he left some throws on
- 23:23the field. Does TCU belong in the
- 23:26conversation? Might and we know when when the
- 23:28smoke clears. Might be TCU on the podium
- 23:31getting the trophy. Yeah, I was at that game on
- 23:34Saturday for Colorado, and the thing that really struck me is
- 23:37just their continued struggles to be able to run the football.
- 23:40And the interesting thing right now is they're really not trying
- 23:44to do anything exotic running the football.
- 23:46They're running between the tackles.
- 23:47They're running inside plays. They're not running to the
- 23:50outside very much. And, you know, granted, they're
- 23:51kind of banged up on their offensive lines.
- 23:53That limits what they're able to do with their, you know, state
- 23:56pulling guards and trying to run stretch plays and things of that
- 23:58nature. But, you know, they didn't do
- 24:00anything exotic from a run play standpoint in Colorado.
- 24:02Did a good job of stuffing, was there.
- 24:05I've always said this is a team that could contend if everything
- 24:08goes right. I still stand by that.
- 24:11You know, they've got a loss there is in the state.
- 24:13If everything goes right and they finish up 8:00 and 1:00,
- 24:15then yeah, they'll be in Arlington playing in the
- 24:17championship game. But the running game really
- 24:19concerns me because they've got to find a way to take some
- 24:23pressure off of Josh Hoover. He had a great game.
- 24:27He was very consistent throughout that game, even if
- 24:29the numbers didn't come to the fourth quarter.
- 24:30But they've really got to get some semblance of a running game
- 24:34going so that they can take some pressure off of him, give him a
- 24:38little bit more, you know, a little bit more room to play
- 24:41with in the pocket. Otherwise, teams are going to
- 24:43really start teeing off on him from a pass rush standpoint.
- 24:46As the season goes on, they'll observe a lot more abuse and you
- 24:49know, that's probably going to limit their chances to be a
- 24:51contender in this conference. Texas Tech is now nationally
- 24:56recognized top ten team. Lot of buzz, obviously what they
- 24:59did in the offseason, this spending.
- 25:01How important is it for Texas Tech now to have that special
- 25:05season, maybe at worst be 11 and 1 going into that championship
- 25:09game just to have them part of the conversation for the
- 25:12playoff, maybe more than just getting in.
- 25:14But doing that, when you look at the league as a whole, is, is
- 25:17there a lot riding in your mind on Texas Tech having a
- 25:20successful year? Yeah, I think there is at this
- 25:23point. I mean, if they had a loss on
- 25:24their schedule, that'd be one thing.
- 25:25But I mean, they're they're 5 and 0.
- 25:27Their defense is ranked #22 in the country in total defense.
- 25:31And I talked to Joey McGuire before the season and, you know,
- 25:34I said, what are the things you guys need to get better at?
- 25:36He said we got to get better on 3rd down.
- 25:37We got to get better in the red zone in terms of forcing teams
- 25:40to settle for field goals, and we got to get better at rushing
- 25:43the quarterback. And they've been much better at
- 25:44all three of those pieces of the puzzle.
- 25:46And that's why their defense is in the top 25 in total defense.
- 25:51You know, to me, they're now in a position where I feel like
- 25:53they're playing the best football with anybody in the
- 25:55conference. I still don't think they're
- 25:57going to finish undefeated in the league, but I think 11 and 1
- 26:00is a very reasonable possibility there.
- 26:03Arizona State's their toughest remaining game.
- 26:05Not that Kansas isn't dangerous this weekend, but you know,
- 26:08areas of the state is that game where I feel like they're
- 26:10they're playing a legitimate top 25 contender in the conference.
- 26:14After that, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, BYUBYU is going to
- 26:17be a tough game. UCF, West Virginia, there's a
- 26:19pathway for them to finish 11:00 and 1:00.
- 26:21And if they do, I think that helps the profile of the
- 26:24conference overall. It but I also think it also it
- 26:27helps, you know, a couple of teams that might be trying to
- 26:30get into that, you know, 10 win, 11 win position as well.
- 26:35You know, if you're, if you're BYU, if you're Arizona State,
- 26:39Cincinnati, Iowa State, those are all teams with, you know,
- 26:43four or five wins, but one loss overall.
- 26:46Big 12 really needs two teams that are 10 win teams going into
- 26:50the Big 12 championship game that that will help them
- 26:53potentially get 2 teams into the playoffs because they saw it
- 26:55last year. You know, they didn't take a
- 26:57nine and three Alabama, they took a 10 and 211 and two SMU.
- 27:02So I think ten wins over the course of the season, once you
- 27:06get the Selection Sunday, matters to the committee, and I
- 27:09think Texas Tech is well positioned to do that.
- 27:12The question is whether a second team can follow them.
- 27:14I'll get you out of here on this, at least for for me there
- 27:18Texas Tech's booster, Cody Campbell.
- 27:20There's an offensive lineman at Texas Tech.
- 27:22Do I have that correct? I think you played old line
- 27:24there. But it seemed he loves
- 27:25basketball as well because he played football.
- 27:29Did would it mean more for for Texas Tech to win a a Football
- 27:33Conference championship or basketball?
- 27:36Or does he want them both and he's in it?
- 27:38Where did he make his money? Is he an oil guy or an energy?
- 27:41Kind of one of the same, right? Oil and gas, oil and gas.
- 27:44So I believe he used to own a company called Energy Transfer.
- 27:48I think he and his partner sold out a year ago and they made out
- 27:50with like 4 billion or something like that.
- 27:52I mean, they're they're he's got money and his money's got money.
- 27:58So, yeah, I mean, I football would obviously matter to him a
- 28:01great deal. But the great thing about Texas
- 28:03Tech, and this is one of the reasons why they've done NIL
- 28:05well since this space opened up is they've they have worked hard
- 28:09to support football, both basketball teams, baseball and
- 28:12softball, those those Big 5 sports that most universities
- 28:16have on their campus. They've done a really good job
- 28:18of balancing out their NIL and making sure all those different
- 28:21athletes are supported. Yes, sure, they, they really
- 28:24push their chips to the table for football this year, but
- 28:27basketball has been well supported.
- 28:29So is baseball obviously softball Najari candidate, their
- 28:32pitcher signed a reported $1 million NIL deal.
- 28:36So I think Cody Campbell, the way he talks on Twitter about
- 28:40wanting to make sure the Olympic sports get preserved and things
- 28:43like that, I think he he wants to make sure everyone at Texas
- 28:46Tech is supported. But yeah, football would
- 28:49obviously mean a great deal to them.
- 28:51They haven't won a solo conference championship, I don't
- 28:54believe until the since the 50s when they were in the Border
- 28:58Conference. They shared a a four way
- 29:00championship with the three other teams in the Southwest
- 29:03Conference. I believe in 94.
- 29:05And they went to the Cotton Bowl because they were the team in
- 29:08the conference that had gone the longest without going to the
- 29:10Cotton Bowl. That was how they broke the tie
- 29:13because they had four different teams tied for first play.
- 29:15So yeah, it would it would mean a great deal not just to him,
- 29:18but that to that entire fan base that they're able to win the Big
- 29:2112. Go to the college football
- 29:22player. It would be a a validation of
- 29:25all the work they did in the offseason.
- 29:27Speaking of tiebreakers, you wrote about tiebreakers this
- 29:29week at Heartland College Sports.
- 29:30There's another tiebreaker. A couple years ago, we had
- 29:33tiebreakers. We had tiebreakers last year.
- 29:35Are you all polished up? Are you ready to go when we get
- 29:37into the middle of November? We're going.
- 29:39To need you. This thing is an absolute mess,
- 29:42and it's not just a Big 12 thing.
- 29:43It's everybody. I want to go this direction.
- 29:46Do you like the way the way that the tiebreakers are now set up
- 29:49in the Big 12? I think so.
- 29:55I mean, you're always going to have these what ifs when you
- 29:58have an unbalanced schedule the way they have like the way
- 30:01everybody has in the Power 4 conferences now.
- 30:03But I, I think, you know, I think right now they're probably
- 30:08in a pretty good place. I would feel better if you know,
- 30:11the Big 12 moved to some sort of a pod system like the SEC is
- 30:15doing with their schedule. I think that would help make
- 30:17tiebreakers a little bit easier, especially if you're playing
- 30:20three consistent teams every year.
- 30:21Would help us preserve Kansas State, Iowa State and things of
- 30:24that nature. I think that would be somewhat
- 30:26helpful because that way you're playing 3 core teams every year
- 30:30and you're playing every other team at least once every two
- 30:34years. I think it would help with a
- 30:36tiebreaker standpoint. But I mean, you think about
- 30:38this, there's 16 teams in this conference.
- 30:40You're playing a nine game schedule.
- 30:41You're not playing six of them. So inevitably there's always
- 30:46going to be a scenario or two where you're like, oh gosh,
- 30:49please don't, please don't let that happen.
- 30:51Like, there's one person I think on Twitter, and I wish I had
- 30:53bookmarked this, somebody came up with a scenario where you can
- 30:56have 5-8 and one teams in the Big 12 this year going into the
- 30:59season. They like mapped it out how how
- 31:01could 5 different teams finish eight one?
- 31:03And there was a way to do it. And, you know, until we have a
- 31:07little more balance in the schedule divisions, what have
- 31:11you, I don't know. But you know, there's always
- 31:13going to be that couple of nightmare scenarios that
- 31:16nobody's thought about like a couple of years ago with
- 31:18Oklahoma State. So I, I think the tiebreakers
- 31:21are certainly in a better place, but I wouldn't rule out a little
- 31:24chaos the last couple weeks of the season.
- 31:26I will say this, I think the Big 12 did a much better job of
- 31:28communicating where tiebreakers were the last couple of weeks of
- 31:32the season, communicating how those would work and, and what
- 31:35had to happen for for these sorts of things to happen.
- 31:37So that aside, after the first year where they really did, they
- 31:40can do a very good job at that. They did a better job at that
- 31:42last year. Matt Poston's Heartland College

- 33:18stocking up on? What's your beer of choice?
- 33:20Well, it's Stella Trent. It's Stella, Yeah.
- 33:22Still Stella. Now do you still cut set with
- 33:24Bud Light? Are you kidding me?
- 33:26No, I used to cut something else with so my my Monday through
- 33:29Friday was Bud Light and one of the Confluence beers.
- 33:33OK, and then I looked at my birth certificate and what am I
- 33:38doing right? Why would I it?
- 33:40Was the most baffling thing. I'd I've heard a lot of baffling
- 33:43things from you. Yeah, that was up there.
- 33:44Yeah, so why just for the rest of my drinking days, why
- 33:49wouldn't I just drink what I want?
- 33:50What was the theory behind cutting your beer?
- 33:53Well, this. I like the Confluence beer a
- 33:55lot. It's too.
- 33:56Strong for me it was. Oh, that's what it was.
- 33:58Yeah, it was. Just knocked me on my you know
- 33:59what? OK, after.
- 34:01I can't. I mean, I can't.
- 34:04I'm not 243444, I'm 66, soon to be 67 here in a couple of
- 34:11months. So that was what was behind it.
- 34:13Then I thought, what am I doing? Just drink Stella.
- 34:15You love Stella. Do you drink it out of the
- 34:18bottle? No, that's nasty.
- 34:19I know you don't like it in the box, so you pour it into like.
- 34:22A No, I don't drop by bottles, period.
- 34:25The Stella in bottles is terrible, OK, and if anybody
- 34:30sells Stella out there for a living, they shouldn't be pissed
- 34:32'cause I'm your best customer Buy buy the cans.
- 34:35And obviously I would much prefer to drink it on tap, but
- 34:39out of the cans pretty good. So out of the can though you
- 34:41don't pour it into a glass. No.
- 34:43Well, yeah, no, I poured into a Stella glass.
- 34:45OK. Yeah, and that's how it's.
- 34:47And I got my wife fooled OK, because I've been told the good
- 34:51thing. That neither of our wives
- 34:52listens to our shows, so we're we're both in good.
- 34:54Shape. She has no idea where I am right
- 34:55now. She doesn't.
- 34:57So Stella's come out with these within the last year, maybe a
- 35:01little bit more. These new cans are kind of like
- 35:03thin. Have you seen them?
- 35:04Yes, yeah, she. Thinks they're small.
- 35:06Oh, she doesn't know the ounces in there.
- 35:09There's no idea. She thinks I'm drinking 8
- 35:11ounces. Beers, I'm going to.
- 35:12Have three of these. Oh, absolutely.
- 35:14I'm not doing what the doctor said.
- 35:16So I'm in her good books for that.
- 35:18I don't get the, you know, harping on me about that.
- 35:21So what's the number? Because I know the numbers have
- 35:24changed everyone. Is it 3A night?
- 35:25Yeah. Tops, tops, tops.
- 35:28Now on the weekend I have a 16 ounce beer which she thinks is

- 35:40So last time I was the doctor I was told 'cause I eat at
- 35:4410/10/15 right? No more, you can't do that
- 35:47anymore. So I stopped for.
- 35:48Another one at the Ken Miller added dinner at 10:15 at night.
- 35:51Yeah, I stopped for about a month, and then I realized
- 35:55they're tricking me. Oh, because if I eat dinner at
- 35:578:00, I'm full. I don't want to drink beer at
- 36:008:30. Sure.
- 36:01So that's that's out the window. OK, so I'm now back to my old
- 36:04schedule. Dinner at 10:15.

- 36:57Our final segment here on a Tuesday baseball coming up,
- 37:03Circus sports, download their new app.
- 37:05Even if you're an existing customer, you're going to have
- 37:08to do that again as the new circus sports app has gone live
- 37:12here in the state of Iowa. Trent Jerry Jones apparently
- 37:19flipped off New York Jets fans after they went in and and beat
- 37:24them last Sunday. The double bird, apparently.
- 37:27I'm not sure. Did you see any of the still
- 37:29photos of it? Etcetera.
- 37:30I didn't see any of the pictures though, but I yeah did hear
- 37:33about it. It was inadvertent, according to
- 37:36Jimmy Jones, so I believe him. I'll, I'll take him at his word
- 37:40that he flipped the double bird to Jets fans.
- 37:43We're probably on him pretty good.
- 37:44Oh, absolutely. I'm sure if you get to him, but
- 37:47you're the owner of the Dallas Cowboys and you can't do that.
- 37:50But it was inadvertence, so. It's all good.
- 37:52All good. Let's move on.
- 37:54It plays of the day Circus sports sponsor those couple of
- 37:56baseball games here today. We've got the Tigers and the
- 37:59Mariners and the Yanks and the Jays.
- 38:02What else you got? Got 2 pitching props and a
- 38:05gameplay. I'm playing a Blue Jays plus
- 38:07147. I like the spot for him and it
- 38:10just feels like if you want to Polish off the Yankees, just do
- 38:12it. Yeah, get it done.
- 38:14I love the price plus 147. My numbers were closer to plus
- 38:171:30, so good value there at Circa.
- 38:20I'm going to play 2 pitching props.
- 38:21I'm going to go under Jack Flaherty, 14 1/2 outs.
- 38:25Don't think he's going to get it to the 5th, so get a guess at
- 38:29day off. They're going to be pretty quick
- 38:31with the bullpen also in that one, and I'm going over a redone
- 38:34strikeouts over 4 1/2 is the number.
- 38:36Lay some juice by this 145, but over Radon 4 1/2 strikeouts,
- 38:40Flaherty under and outs and the Blue Jays 3 baseball plays.
- 38:44And then tomorrow we get game three, the WNBA Finals.
- 38:48How? How are they going so far?
- 38:502 Nothing aces they're. Going to win it again, huh?
- 38:53Can't win it again. Jesus, I know.
- 38:55They were left for dead. You could have got a pretty 101.
- 38:58Speak of prices, you could have got some pretty ones there I.
- 39:01Bet my God they do have a switch.
