- 0:34Are we ready?
- 0:35Yeah.
- 0:36Yeah.
- 0:36Welcome to the jungle.
- 0:41Okay.
- 0:42Welcome to drive through episode number 48.
- 0:45This is our monthly recap, where we've put together a menu of automotive,
- 0:50motorsport and car adjacent news.
- 0:52No Shoei PBs in this episode.
- 0:54Now, let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 0:58What do we got, Eric?
- 0:59Ah, number 48.
- 1:01Are you ready for this?
- 1:02I'm as ready as I always am.
- 1:05I opted to work on the car rather than prepare for the drive thru.
- 1:08I think it's gonna turn out well.
- 1:10Tanya subscribed to the same idea because she's as prepared as you are.
- 1:13Amen, Tanya.
- 1:14Amen to that.
- 1:15I praise you for your dedication to working on your car.
- 1:18I usually at least open it.
- 1:21She didn't even get that far.
- 1:22She literally goes, Where's the link?
- 1:23I can't find it.
- 1:24But here's the thing, right?
- 1:25The saying holds true.
- 1:27You're never more prepared than when you're not.
- 1:29It's true.
- 1:30It'll be our best episode yet.
- 1:31I like to fly by the seat of my pants.
- 1:33A hundred percent.
- 1:34At least I'm wearing pants this time.
- 1:35You've been known to do the Ron Burgundy thing.
- 1:37Yeah.
- 1:38The Ron Burgundy or the Rambo Commando.
- 1:40Didn't Dan rather not wear pants when he was at his desk?
- 1:43No, I think that was the Williams guy for NBC who was cheating on his
- 1:48wife and his daughter's an actress.
- 1:50What was his name?
- 1:51I want to say Ted, but that's a singer, isn't it?
- 1:54That's Ted Bundy.
- 1:57Not Al Bundy.
- 1:58Four touchdowns in a single game for Polk High.
- 2:01Well, we've got some rich people thangs because it is car week month.
- 2:06Car Week continues to get longer.
- 2:08There's this whole, I'm Spartacus.
- 2:10No, I'm Spartacus situation going on with Car Week.
- 2:13You know, who's the first event?
- 2:14Even last year when I was there, it was like, we're the first of the first.
- 2:19And then you hear that.
- 2:19And then I know I'm the first event of Car Week.
- 2:22And Car Week's like 15 days long now.
- 2:24It's absolutely insane.
- 2:25We weren't able to be there in person this year.
- 2:28Mad shout out to Ryan Barkey and Danny P, formerly of the steering committee and
- 2:32Danny P on cars now part of the roadshow podcast for sending us updates on things
- 2:36that were going on during car week.
- 2:38Hopefully we'll get there next year.
- 2:39But rather than recap every sort of detail, we put together a
- 2:44special edition of our magazine.
- 2:47So issue number 30 was released during car week.
- 2:51And what we did is we tied together everything related.
- 2:54Two car week from years past that we had covered all of last year and then guests
- 2:59that we sat down with after the fact.
- 3:01And so we're going to continue to dogpile onto that.
- 3:04So check out issue 30 on our website, but really what everybody wants to talk about.
- 3:09It's the cars that sold it.
- 3:11Did you guys take a look at the homework that Jalopnik did for us?
- 3:15I love it when people do my work for me.
- 3:17Yeah.
- 3:18They gave a cheat where you can click and look at all the slides without
- 3:21actually looking at the pictures of the cars, which is pretty cool.
- 3:23Oh, fantastic.
- 3:24They have them in order by price.
- 3:26If we do this Letterman style, we can work backwards from.
- 3:30Lowest to highest.
- 3:31I love it.
- 3:31Let's do that.
- 3:32Yeah.
- 3:32They went in the reverse of what we're going to do.
- 3:34Okay.
- 3:34So we're going to do the Monterey car week, top 16 cars sold at auction.
- 3:40You notice that there's two numbers here.
- 3:42It's two and then 15 and then three and then 14.
- 3:44And they've numbered.
- 3:45One as the heading of the thing, because it's the first slide.
- 3:50Exactly.
- 3:50This is the confusion here.
- 3:52Whoever put together this PowerPoint presentation does
- 3:55not know what they're doing.
- 3:55Have you read anything on Jalopnik?
- 3:57I mean, come on, between the typos, some of them, Oxford comma, some
- 4:01of them, no Oxford comma, some of them, no punctuation at all.
- 4:04It's amazing.
- 4:04They can put a listicle together.
- 4:06This is brilliant.
- 4:07All right.
- 4:07Short circuiting this whole process.
- 4:09Coming in at number 15, we've got the 2021 Bugatti Chiron Chiron.
- 4:16It's the Chiron.
- 4:16She, she, she, she, she run sports.
- 4:20Noir.
- 4:21Somebody else say this.
- 4:22I can't see this stupid name.
- 4:23What it basically boils down to is a flat black Bugatti Chiron, and it looks
- 4:28like the Batmobile and it is awesome.
- 4:30And it's sold for a whopping 3.
- 4:3236 million.
- 4:35Is that cheaper than the car was when it was purchased from Bugatti?
- 4:39Because I thought those cars were more than four or five.
- 4:42I know the previous Bugatti Veyron was like two plus, and then they had
- 4:48all the special, special editions.
- 4:50I got to imagine this guy kind of the owner guy or girl, whoever was
- 4:53probably took a bath when this car sold.
- 4:55That's what I'm thinking too.
- 4:56That's really cheap for a Bugatti.
- 4:58I mean, 3.
- 4:5936 million is not anything to sneeze at, but it's also not a lot of
- 5:03money for that type of hyper car.
- 5:05But boy, does it look good.
- 5:06I mean, Bruce Wayne's probably got.
- 5:08Six or seven of these.
- 5:09Yep.
- 5:09Coming in at number 14, some of these are not gonna be any shock as we get
- 5:13kind of further down the list here.
- 5:1466 Ferrari 2 75 GTB 60 C alloy, $3.481 million.
- 5:21So can somebody translate the name of this car for me?
- 5:26Yes.
- 5:26William Ross could do that.
- 5:28I don't understand what any of it means.
- 5:30Either spec with alloy, coach, work, whatever that means.
- 5:35. But the Ferrari 275s and the 250 GTO, I mean, those cars are sky high anyway.
- 5:41So this is not a surprise.
- 5:42But as a Ferrari, let's say two series, 250, 275.
- 5:47This is on the bottom end of that.
- 5:48Exactly.
- 5:49Exactly.
- 5:50Cause there's some of these that sell not just in the seven digits like this
- 5:53one did, but then for eight digits.
- 5:55So this is the cheap bargain basement.
- 5:58Ferrari, if you're looking for a two series or 200 series.
- 6:02Car . Yep.
- 6:03Next up, another Bugatti Sheron SS or Super Sport 3.497 million.
- 6:09I can't tell the difference between the other one other than the paint.
- 6:12It looks the same and it's a different color.
- 6:14It's gray.
- 6:15The other one didn't have the I, I'll call it ground effects package,
- 6:18but the arrow, is it just me or does it make it look like a Supra?
- 6:21It does look like a very fat supra.
- 6:24I will, right.
- 6:24I will give it that, yes.
- 6:26Especially with those wheels, they're very JDM.
- 6:29It doesn't look right.
- 6:30And here's our first poll question for Eric and Tanya.
- 6:33Would you rather have this or a Supra?
- 6:35I don't want anything.
- 6:35You know, I've been seeing a lot more Supras on the road lately.
- 6:38I don't see very many at all.
- 6:40I saw one in yellow.
- 6:41I don't like it in yellow.
- 6:42I see more Rivians than I do Supras.
- 6:44I think the Bugatti would look good in yellow though.
- 6:46I've seen one in yellow.
- 6:47If anybody who's ever been up and down Rodeo drive, the owners of one
- 6:51of the fashion shops there owns a bright yellow and black Bugatti Veyron.
- 6:55That's pretty hot.
- 6:56Next on the list.
- 6:57This is some pretty dry stuff.
- 6:59I hope the listeners are enjoying.
- 7:01Well, we're going to fast forward here.
- 7:0234 Duesenberg, 3.
- 7:057 million, 34 Alfa Romeo, 8C, 4 million.
- 7:09And then we start to get into some cool stuff, stuff that
- 7:11we're interested in as racers.
- 7:14Coming in at number 10, 76 Porsche, 935.
- 7:19Yes.
- 7:19That's all you have to say in a martini and Rossi livery, 5 million bucks.
- 7:24Would you spend 5 million bucks on this?
- 7:26I don't know.
- 7:27It's pretty tough.
- 7:28Cause the cyber truck could.
- 7:30Pull one of these and beat this at the same time going through the quarter mile.
- 7:35Allegedly the next one at 5 million bucks.
- 7:38If you're going to put another race car in your collection, all the
- 7:41333, 333 SP, this thing is awesome.
- 7:44It is.
- 7:45Is this the car that Tanya used to whip everybody's butt in Forza?
- 7:48No, that was the Eagle talent.
- 7:50Oh, excuse me.
- 7:51That was her B class car, but wasn't this her like P class car?
- 7:54Might've been.
- 7:55Yeah.
- 7:55I love these.
- 7:57Before the current 499X, these were the last Ferraris in LMP1 at Le
- 8:03Mans, that kind of stuff, right?
- 8:04So these are really iconic.
- 8:06They're really, really cool.
- 8:07Given that, I'm surprised it sold for so cheap.
- 8:10And you got to watch the video of this car because the sound is unreal.
- 8:14And then what kills you is the guys that have these, and then they put like a
- 8:18Judd V10 in it, and it's like Really?
- 8:20I mean, yeah, the Judd V10 sounds great too, but it's not a Ferrari 12.
- 8:24I mean, come on.
- 8:25No, that's just a waste of space.
- 8:26They couldn't afford to put the Ferrari motor back in it.
- 8:29That's why.
- 8:29So the next like 10 cars, Ferrari, Ferrari, Ferrari, Ferrari, Ferrari,
- 8:33Alfa male, and then Ferrari.
- 8:35But we'll talk about the top three in a second.
- 8:36So everything up until the top three cars is like 5 million bucks
- 8:41and under, they kind of creep up 5.
- 8:431, 5.
- 8:442.
- 8:445.
- 8:453, 5.
- 8:453, and so on.
- 8:45There's a Ferrari F50 on here.
- 8:47I was just about to say one of my favorite cars, the Ferrari
- 8:50F50, the car that Eric hates.
- 8:52So awful, but apparently not only is it on this list as a top seller during car week,
- 8:57it's also the currently most expensive F50 to ever sell at auction at 5.
- 9:035 million.
- 9:04Did it used to belong to share?
- 9:06No, that was a 240 60.
- 9:07No, no, my bad.
- 9:08So breaking some records there for F fifties, Love it or hate it.
- 9:12That's good news for F50 owners.
- 9:14I would buy the Chiron instead.
- 9:16It's a much better car, but that's just me.
- 9:18No contest.
- 9:19I would buy the F50.
- 9:20Next up in fourth place, 59 Ferrari, 250 GTB, long wheelbase,
- 9:24California Spider, not to be confused with the Ferris Bueller car.
- 9:28Because as soon as somebody hears California Spider, they
- 9:30think Ferris Bueller's day off.
- 9:32This is the long wheelbase car.
- 9:34You know, it's hard to tell the difference.
- 9:36William could probably do a whole episode on the difference between
- 9:39the short and the long wheels base cars, but if you look at it long
- 9:41enough, you can tell it is longer.
- 9:44It seems proportionally wrong than what you're used to seeing.
- 9:47No surprise, maybe not as sought after at 5.
- 9:516 million as some of the other Ferrari 250 Californias that are out there.
- 9:56But rounding out the top three drum roll
- 10:04number three, 1955 Ferrari, four 10 sports spider at 12.
- 10:09985 million.
- 10:11That's a big jump in price.
- 10:13Yeah.
- 10:13From 5 million to 12, I actually think this car is kind of ugly.
- 10:16I mean, I don't think it's ugly, but I think it looks like any other
- 10:20race car from that era compared to the two 50 Testa Rosa though.
- 10:24Well, yes, of course.
- 10:25It's like, ugh.
- 10:26I don't know.
- 10:27I don't like it.
- 10:27I think it's kind of ugly.
- 10:28It feels like a precursor to that design.
- 10:31Although they were all, to your point, very similar during
- 10:33the mil milia period there.
- 10:35Yeah.
- 10:35When they developed these $13 million, though, not so much.
- 10:39So next, number 2, 19 38.
- 10:42Alpha male, eight C.
- 10:432,900 B.
- 10:44Luo Spider.
- 10:46That's a very long name for a very sexy car.
- 10:49That looks like A BMW.
- 10:50Yeah.
- 10:51Stunning and black though.
- 10:52My God.
- 10:53That is.
- 10:54Gorgeous car.
- 10:54I mean, that's pebble beach worthy right there.
- 10:56I'm just not that big of a fan looks wise of that pre war period.
- 11:01Yeah.
- 11:01Give me the next car.
- 11:03That's my wheelhouse right there.
- 11:04So this alpha sold at 14 million.
- 11:07That's with an M.
- 11:09And then to your point, last but certainly not least, this is Ferris
- 11:12Bueller's Ferrari California Spider.
- 11:1517 million for a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT short wheelbase California Spider in the
- 11:23most gorgeous gray that I have ever seen.
- 11:26Yes.
- 11:26Delicious.
- 11:27Yes, I concur.
- 11:28Oh, man.
- 11:29I mean, I could just stare at that all day.
- 11:31Have you taken a snapshot of just looking at the list?
- 11:33Just the list?
- 11:34It's 11 Italian cars.
- 11:36They sprinkle in a little, uh, french fry.
- 11:39And that random Duesenberg.
- 11:40Then some schnitzel.
- 11:43At any rate.
- 11:44Car week, so exciting.
- 11:45It's so chaotic.
- 11:47We were in touch with so many people, even though we weren't able to be there.
- 11:50There's a lot more followup on garage style.
- 11:52There's a lot more articles that are coming.
- 11:54Don did a good job putting together a car week guide, but one of the things
- 11:57I thought was interesting as he's rolling out coverage of car week,
- 12:01he's looking for the stories that are a little bit more exclusive that
- 12:05people maybe weren't able to get to.
- 12:07And one of them in particular.
- 12:08Is these videos of the setup for a special invite only private my Bach event and how
- 12:17they like bring the cars in using a crane.
- 12:19Wow.
- 12:20That my box pretty sweet looking.
- 12:21Yeah.
- 12:22That SUV is killer too.
- 12:23At first I was like, is that like a Brabus?
- 12:25Like what is that?
- 12:26And then Nope.
- 12:26That's a, my Bach SUV.
- 12:28Oh, that red one with like the equivalent of the Louis Vuitton scheme.
- 12:32That's pretty sweet.
- 12:34Very, very cool.
- 12:35So he told me there's more stuff like that coming in the next couple of weeks
- 12:40as he's got people sending him stuff behind the scenes at car week and whatnot.
- 12:44So stay tuned for more stuff like that.
- 12:46So just a way for rich people to outreach people, other rich people.
- 12:50Oh, so you've been to car week.
- 12:52Yeah.
- 12:53By the way, a shout out to Mercedes and, uh, Tanya, I saw it wasn't an AMG GT.
- 12:59It was the precursor to that, I guess the SLS.
- 13:02There was a really pretty bright red one in my neighborhood a couple weeks ago.
- 13:06Don't go wrong with a Mercedes coupe.
- 13:08No, no, you cannot.
- 13:09Last year when we were at Car Week at Pebble Beach, just before the Concord kind
- 13:13of opens up and the judging starts and all that kind of stuff, there is a showcase.
- 13:18As you go down towards the beach and they have highlights for new cars.
- 13:22So in years past, you got to see things like the DeLorean re imagined, we got to
- 13:26see the ID buzz and some other things, the new Mustang, they were kind of
- 13:30revealed at car week at pebble beach.
- 13:33Well, BMW decided to do a reveal this year.
- 13:37And it wasn't what we expected.
- 13:39And I got super excited about yet another station wagon returning
- 13:43to the roster that had been shrinking for the last five years.
- 13:47Can you believe BMW is going to put out an M5 Touring in the United States?
- 13:52That's amazing.
- 13:53I don't believe it.
- 13:53I mean, I'm in shock.
- 13:54Do you think it's because Audi's done so well with the RS6 Avant?
- 13:57I guarantee you that's exactly why.
- 13:59So get this staggering 717 horsepower.
- 14:05In a station wagon.
- 14:06First I say, is that necessary?
- 14:08And then I say, is that really enough?
- 14:10Well, it depends on what you're hauling.
- 14:12How many bags of mulch are in the back of your estate?
- 14:14Have you seen this thing?
- 14:15By the way, I'm not typically a fan of green cars, but I think
- 14:18this green is pretty slick.
- 14:20It is cool looking.
- 14:21The wheels are interesting.
- 14:22Everything's interesting about it.
- 14:23Now, granted the grills are still kind of wrong, but it is very cool.
- 14:28It's very different, but I love station wagons.
- 14:30There's something about the long roof.
- 14:32It just brings it all together.
- 14:33Especially BMW station wagons have never looked bad going way, way back.
- 14:38They've always looked really.
- 14:40Sort of elegant in a way, but also aggressive at the same time without
- 14:43being overly, let's say, AMG and you know, the way the RS6 Avant is where
- 14:48it's like they forcibly made it look aggressive and wide like the BMWs have
- 14:52always had that sort of like mean but subtle at the same time sort of thing.
- 14:55I don't even know how to explain it.
- 14:57They're just really cool.
- 14:58I believe Eric, we need to put this disclaimer out there.
- 15:01The estate cars, not the weird GT kind of hatchback liftback
- 15:07things that they came out with.
- 15:09I think it introduced with the five series, not those we're talking about
- 15:13true, legitimate wagons and estate cars.
- 15:16BMW and its own infinite wisdom.
- 15:18You know, we've talked about this before.
- 15:20They're always making the right moves.
- 15:22We won't even talk about what it's going to cost because we already know
- 15:25it's going to be a six digit car.
- 15:27It's an M car.
- 15:28It's a five series.
- 15:29It's a station wagon.
- 15:31They're going to purposefully make it competitive with the RS6, which we know
- 15:34is a hundred plus thousand dollar car.
- 15:36But here's the business logic that I don't understand.
- 15:39BMW might bring an M3 touring to the US.
- 15:43If we buy enough M5 Tourings.
- 15:46Does that make sense?
- 15:47I'm trying to do rich people math in my head to try and figure this out.
- 15:51Let me put it in perspective for you.
- 15:53We didn't talk about how much the M5 station wagon is going to cost.
- 15:56Venture a guess as to how much the M3 station wagon will be?
- 15:5980, 85?
- 16:01110.
- 16:01Oh, so close, but not quite.
- 16:04120, 000 suggested MSRP on the M3 station wagon.
- 16:09Wait, wait, wait, wait, what was that word you threw out there?
- 16:12Adjusted MSRP.
- 16:14What are we adjusting for?
- 16:15Alleged?
- 16:16MSRP alleged.
- 16:17Oh, I thought you said adjusted.
- 16:18Alleged.
- 16:19MSRP.
- 16:20. So basically what they're saying is they don't really have any clue,
- 16:23but if you look at the picture of this supposed M three touring,
- 16:27ooh, this looks even better.
- 16:28And I don't mind the big owl beaver buck teeth grills on this
- 16:32thing because for whatever reason.
- 16:33It actually looks good in this configuration.
- 16:36I will say that the more I see cars with these grills, the more I like them.
- 16:40And I actually try to tell myself all the time, I'm not going to buy a BMW.
- 16:44I'm not going to buy a BMW, but the M fours with these grills, I'm like,
- 16:48I could, I could rock with that.
- 16:50In the right color.
- 16:51And then it's gotta be in the right color.
- 16:53This in this blue, it's kind of the right color.
- 16:55Yeah, it looks really good.
- 16:56And again, Long roof M three and you really go wrong with this equation.
- 17:02What is the difference between the M the, well, the difference between the M three
- 17:05and the M five back in the day was what?
- 17:07Three inches of leg room in the back.
- 17:09Yeah.
- 17:09So, so that means the M five is going to be one 50, one 60 plus.
- 17:13Exactly.
- 17:14So this is the turbo six though.
- 17:16The M five has a V8 performance hybrid.
- 17:18So BMW making a splash during car week with their station wagon of all things.
- 17:24I think that's a bold move, really curious to see where it goes in the future.
- 17:28So it would be cool to go down the road and get totally blasted
- 17:31by one of these station wagons with 700 horsepower or whatever.
- 17:35So I think that's, that's really, really cool.
- 17:36You know, as much as I see the RS6 all over the interwebs.
- 17:41I have yet to see one in person just rolling down the road.
- 17:46Like I've seen one at NGP and various places like that.
- 17:49I don't think I've ever seen one on the road.
- 17:51Hardly ever.
- 17:52I think I took a picture of one and posted it on discord once.
- 17:55Cause it had some really cool aftermarket wheels.
- 17:57And that's the last time I've seen one.
- 17:58And that was like, I don't know, like a year ago.
- 18:01Yeah, but yeah, every once in a while they pop up, but for the
- 18:03people fortunate enough to have those kinds of cars, I'm jealous, man.
- 18:06You've got my attention.
- 18:07I love that kind of stuff.
- 18:08Hot rod station wagon.
- 18:10Hell yeah, I'll stick to my hatchbacks for now.
- 18:12Cause that's what I can afford.
- 18:14Like I said, even though we didn't get to go to car week this year, we
- 18:17are looking forward to next year.
- 18:18We have some plans in the works and hopefully a couple of special surprises
- 18:22and some honors in there as well.
- 18:25So we're not going to give any spoilers yet, but you know, making plans and we're
- 18:28looking forward to next year, even though it's a year away, some of these big
- 18:31events, whether it's this or the Florida man games or LeMans classic or whatever
- 18:36it is, you got to start planning early.
- 18:38Well, as a quick aside, there's a couple other things that happened
- 18:41since the last time we got together for the drive through.
- 18:43So you remember we were talking about rocks and revs and all that kind of stuff.
- 18:46So we went out to Cleveland and hooked up with William Big Money Ross, who
- 18:50a lot of our listeners are familiar with from the What Should I Buy
- 18:53series and the Ferrari Marketplace and the Motoring Podcast Network.
- 18:56I got a special surprise when I got out there.
- 18:58So I'm going to get together with William, got to set up for the
- 19:00event, this and that, and he goes, Hey, Pittsburgh vintage Grand Prix.
- 19:02You want to go?
- 19:03I mean, yeah.
- 19:04Okay.
- 19:05So what's the plan?
- 19:06I'll see you at six o'clock tomorrow morning.
- 19:07And so we headed down to good old pit race, took a bunch of videos, talk to
- 19:11people in the paddock, walk around, you know, meet some of the drivers and six
- 19:15different classes of cars ranging from sub 2000 CCs to the, what they call the ground
- 19:21pounders, the late models and trucks.
- 19:23I mean, you name it.
- 19:24All sorts of really cool stuff.
- 19:25Super happy to see a bunch of nine fourteens.
- 19:28Cause you know, that's a soft spot for me racing at the track.
- 19:31I took a bunch of videos.
- 19:32I put together like a compilation summary video for anybody who wants to see
- 19:35what the vintage Grand Prix was like.
- 19:36This was the beginning of sort of the Pittsburgh car week.
- 19:40In a sense, that's why it's loosely related to our Car Week Showcase.
- 19:43They did this whole like seven plus day thing where it started at Pit
- 19:47Race and then it ended at Shenley Park for another Vintage Grand Prix
- 19:51through the streets of Pittsburgh.
- 19:53Similar cars, not all the same ones that were running at the VRG SCCA
- 19:57event that they had going on at Pit Race, but you know, they have this
- 20:00whole festival and it sort of moves throughout the area of Pittsburgh.
- 20:03And I thought that was really, really cool.
- 20:04I've been talking for a long time about getting into vintage racing
- 20:08and buying a vintage race car.
- 20:09And it's sort of been not a bucket list thing, but it's a tire
- 20:13I've been kicking for a while.
- 20:14But going to one of these events, talking with the drivers, getting a
- 20:18better understanding of how the classing works and the rules and the different
- 20:21series that they can run in with some of these older cars, it was a pretty
- 20:25eyeopening experience and not nearly as cost prohibitive as I thought it would
- 20:29be compared to, you know, some of the stuff that's going on today, like in SCCA.
- 20:33Right.
- 20:34I got to do a little bit more homework, but I'm really excited to get a little bit
- 20:38more involved in the vintage racing world.
- 20:41So it's a cool place to go.
- 20:42If you're into those types of cars, how long until spec Miata
- 20:47becomes vintage Miata last year?
- 20:49Well, I'm late.
- 20:50It's already happened.
- 20:51Yeah.
- 20:52BRG started a campaign and we actually talked to some of the drivers about
- 20:56that, how they felt about early Miata showing up and they're like,
- 20:59look, they're over 30 years old now.
- 21:01So.
- 21:01You know, it makes you feel super old that the Miata is that old.
- 21:04But on the same token, they're by definition of the rules of vintage racing.
- 21:08They're vintage.
- 21:09You don't see too many of them.
- 21:10There were a couple running around.
- 21:12They're under 2000 CC.
- 21:14So they run them with those cars.
- 21:16They've got to do some balance or performance.
- 21:17You know, they got to make the rules work, but they're making.
- 21:20Space for especially 1.
- 21:226 liter Miatas.
- 21:23They're giving them a home to go race at because they're not competitive and SCCA
- 21:27anymore, not unless they're cheating.
- 21:29I think it's good, but I think you're going to start to see a lot of other
- 21:32cars out there running and mixing it up.
- 21:35I was shocked.
- 21:36There was a Mark one GTI that came through.
- 21:38Flying out of the pits.
- 21:39And I was like, Whoa, pump the brakes.
- 21:41What?
- 21:41And there was other stuff like that where you're like, I guess that is vintage now.
- 21:45Okay.
- 21:46You know, it's not just Austin Healy's and MGs and stuff like that.
- 21:50No, no.
- 21:50Yeah.
- 21:50Well, things that we think are vintage are things that our parents
- 21:54were like, Oh, those are still cool.
- 21:55Those are things that people, so we're, we're all technically vintage racers.
- 21:59I think we're vintage ourselves at this point.
- 22:01Yeah, that's it.
- 22:01We're, we're vintage.
- 22:03Comma racers by the internet youth standard.
- 22:06We are vintage.
- 22:07We might be antique.
- 22:08Oh my God.
- 22:09You know, we should be dead by now.
- 22:10Hey, in the old days, you weren't expected to live till 40.
- 22:14You know what I mean?
- 22:15Yep.
- 22:15I know.
- 22:15Thank God we made it past that.
- 22:16Okay.
- 22:17What's next.
- 22:17All right.
- 22:18So rocks and revs.
- 22:19It was the inaugural automotive festival there in Cleveland in partnership with
- 22:23summer fest there in Fairview park.
- 22:26Really interesting setup.
- 22:27The venue itself.
- 22:28I mean, it was like an ocean of asphalt.
- 22:30You park 200 cars for an event and it doesn't look full at all because
- 22:35you had space for double that.
- 22:36Williams got good plans for next year and for growth and to involve more people.
- 22:41A lot of folks were coming up and talking to me, Hey, I'm going to
- 22:43tell my club and have them come out.
- 22:45And we had good representation from a Shelby Cobra club show up, a bunch of
- 22:49other groups, so really dynamic group of cars, huge selection of imports.
- 22:54Felt like a Honda VW meet a couple of guys with Mark fours.
- 22:57We went around and talked to a whole bunch of people.
- 22:59So it was interesting for a first time, taking over a legacy event,
- 23:04rebranding it, merging it with another one, you know, all the logistics that
- 23:08he had to go through, not bad at all.
- 23:10I wish William continued success.
- 23:12And if you're in that tri state area or close to Cleveland, I would definitely
- 23:16put it on your calendar for next year.
- 23:18But most importantly, I didn't think I would come across one of these and maybe
- 23:23you could chalk it up to rich people.
- 23:24Thanks.
- 23:25As we close out our segment here, but I picked up a little something
- 23:28for myself while I was in Ohio.
- 23:30Check it out.
- 23:31We'll show it till here.
- 23:32It's the Hot Wheels Audi Quattro IMSA GTO mega blocks set with
- 23:38the matching die cast car.
- 23:39I saw four of those at Target.
- 23:42The other day, you didn't have to get it at rocks and
- 23:44revs, but I'm glad you got it.
- 23:46Pat yourself on the back.
- 23:47Good job, buddy.
- 23:47That's what I appreciate about you down where you're at.
- 23:51There's cooler stuff than up in where I am, where there's nothing.
- 23:54So, you know, that's true.
- 23:55But I will say I did have a little table set up a thing for charity and
- 23:58all that to donate money to aluminum cans for bird children and for
- 24:03the animal sanctuary and all that.
- 24:04But I sold off a bunch of my hot wheels that I have like a big bin of
- 24:07what I call the car show collection.
- 24:10And so I was like, well, sell off the small ones to buy the bigger ones.
- 24:13Sounds like playing to me.
- 24:14That's a one for one trade.
- 24:15Yep.
- 24:15Yes, sir.
- 24:16And that's going on the Christmas shopping list.
- 24:18And you know, what's funny is Hot Wheels owns mega blocks.
- 24:21That's why obviously there's no license with like Lego.
- 24:23I was confused by that.
- 24:25I was like, who is this Lego knockoff kind of thing?
- 24:28So Mattel, the parent company owns all that, right?
- 24:31It's pretty big.
- 24:31But they're all in cahoots together.
- 24:32What's funny is I don't know why they chose this maybe because the
- 24:35car's kind of blocky in shape.
- 24:37So it was easy for them to do, but there's only one other one in this
- 24:42size, which it's about a 10 inch car.
- 24:44So think like one 18th scale model, but it's a Corvette stingray, like a C2.
- 24:50Everything else they have is more like the speed.
- 24:51Champion size, like six, seven inches, but nothing this large.
- 24:55Maybe there's more coming in the future.
- 24:57Maybe it's a licensing thing.
- 24:58I figured they would have all that because of hot wheels and matchbox and
- 25:01all the other brands that they own.
- 25:03Really curious to see what they do with the mega blocks.
- 25:05I've never built anything mega blocks.
- 25:07before.
- 25:08So fit and finish will be mostly what I'm critiquing.
- 25:10Maybe if they sell enough M5 Tourings, they'll bring the M3.
- 25:13Yeah.
- 25:14Yeah.
- 25:14There you go.
- 25:15Yeah.
- 25:15Yeah.
- 25:16That's the moral of the story.
- 25:17So I've got a question for you because I know you, I know how you operate.
- 25:21Did you buy two so you can put one together and leave one in the box?
- 25:26So they had four on the shelf.
- 25:28And did you bring four home?
- 25:29Three remained when I left.
- 25:30I was tempted to buy two though.
- 25:32I really disappointed, disappointed because I know you, I know you're
- 25:36sitting there and it's like, well, I can get two of them and I can
- 25:38leave one as like a collector.
- 25:40If I sell it in the future, then I make money on it.
- 25:43So it's not really costing me anything.
- 25:44It wasn't cheap.
- 25:45I know.
- 25:46I've seen them at target.
- 25:47I've seen the price.
- 25:48It's 80 bucks.
- 25:49I mean, I'm not going to lie.
- 25:50It's rich people things, right?
- 25:51It's like, you're going to drop 80 bucks on a Lego set.
- 25:53It better be damn good.
- 25:55We'll see how it turns out for me.
- 25:56It's an iconic car.
- 25:58It's part of my childhood.
- 25:59One of those things that I was like, I have to have it.
- 26:01You know what I mean?
- 26:02So we'll see how it goes.
- 26:03Good on you.
- 26:03I am going to take it out of the box eventually.
- 26:06I don't know.
- 26:06We'll see.
- 26:06Because you want to play with it because you're two years old.
- 26:09Of course.
- 26:11Well, that said we're back to our regularly scheduled ranting and raving.
- 26:14So we need to talk about Porsche, Audi and Volkswagen news.
- 26:17So what a great lead in there.
- 26:18Actually have news for them now.
- 26:20That's cool.
- 26:21They've lost their way and they're so lost that they're going to
- 26:25expand their presence in Australia.
- 26:27Yeah.
- 26:27With eight new models, while everyone else has moved out.
- 26:31Are they going to start selling utes?
- 26:32The list of cars is not that interesting, other than the pickup trucks that we never
- 26:37get, like the Amarok and all that stuff.
- 26:39But it's the ID4 the Golf and Tiguan.
- 26:44It's like, okay, great.
- 26:45Wonderful.
- 26:46It is a little confusing that there's two vans.
- 26:48So we've got the ID Buzz and then there's the Multivan.
- 26:51Okay.
- 26:51And then the Transporter.
- 26:52Stuff that we don't get here in the States.
- 26:54Great.
- 26:55You're taking your regular lineup of cars to Australia.
- 26:57Yeah.
- 26:58Where's the mark for ute pickup?
- 27:02No, the Jetta pickup or whatever.
- 27:05That Daniel wants to build.
- 27:06Where's one of those that would sell like hotcakes.
- 27:09Where's the ID buzz.
- 27:10Ute.
- 27:10Everything should be a Ute.
- 27:12Yeah.
- 27:12A hundred percent.
- 27:13The two Utes.
- 27:14Have you seen the.
- 27:15Old Jeep Cherokee Ute that's down the road.
- 27:17Yeah.
- 27:18Yeah.
- 27:18It's like sitting back in the woods.
- 27:19You got to take your trailer out there and go dig it out.
- 27:22That's a barn find my friend.
- 27:23No, it runs.
- 27:24He moved it.
- 27:25Now you can't tell because he backed it into the woods.
- 27:27Did you see how he had it parked though?
- 27:29He had the wheels position.
- 27:30Like he was taking Facebook marketplace pictures of it.
- 27:33I was like.
- 27:33What is happening?
- 27:35That's a photo shoot parking job there with the wheels.
- 27:38Talked like that.
- 27:39So it was a Jeep Wrangler.
- 27:40You that kid's pretty expensive.
- 27:42No, it's cheap.
- 27:42Cherokee.
- 27:43Oh, Cherokee.
- 27:43You'd Oh, like an old square.
- 27:46Really?
- 27:47Yeah, that is.
- 27:49So instead of buying a Comanche, he just decided to make one.
- 27:55He just chopped like the back section of glass out basically.
- 27:58Cause it's so short.
- 28:02International scout style.
- 28:03Yeah.
- 28:03It's it's weird, but it definitely catches your eye because
- 28:06you're like, what is that?
- 28:08So going back to Volkswagen and trying to sell cars in Australia, I have
- 28:12no need for one because we already bought a minivan, but I actually
- 28:15really, really liked the ID buzz.
- 28:17So do I.
- 28:18Okay.
- 28:18Tanya got to see it in Vegas.
- 28:20My wife likes it.
- 28:21I think we all are kind of enamored with it.
- 28:23Until they just recently released the price tag.
- 28:27Do you guys know how much this thing is gonna cost?
- 28:29Why don't you guess?
- 28:30Let's play the game.
- 28:31I already know the price, so I can't.
- 28:32Before opening the page, I thought like 40, 45.
- 28:36Somewhere around the same as the ID4.
- 28:38Uh huh, yeah.
- 28:39Our listeners will not be surprised if they go back and listen to last month's
- 28:4350, 000 millennial gray challenge.
- 28:46This doesn't even clock in at 50 grand.
- 28:48I wish even with the tax credit, it's going to be high fifties with
- 28:53destination charges and everything else.
- 28:55Suggested MSRP of 62, 000.
- 28:59Without the cool colors.
- 29:00Yeah.
- 29:00They're using the Tesla pricing model.
- 29:03Okay, let's be real.
- 29:05Minivans are not cool anymore.
- 29:07You and I both have them, but we bought them for practicality purposes
- 29:11and for, you know, a million reasons.
- 29:13And we're like, vans make sense.
- 29:15Vans are big station wagons, big hatchbacks, blah, blah, blah.
- 29:18And you can put a lot of shit in them.
- 29:19It depends on how you use it.
- 29:21SUVs can be more functional.
- 29:23You know, we can make those arguments all day long, but either way, you
- 29:26can buy a pretty well equipped SUV or minivan for less than 50, 000.
- 29:31We already know this we've studied, but 62, 000 for a Volkswagen.
- 29:36That better be an Arteon or a Phaeton or something.
- 29:39I'm like, what?
- 29:40There's only 10 grand more than the next cheapest minivan.
- 29:44Then what, an Odyssey?
- 29:45Because the Odyssey's got all these whiz bang built in vacuum cleaners
- 29:49and all sorts of crazy stuff.
- 29:50The Volkswagen doesn't have any of that.
- 29:52But the Honda Odyssey is more expensive than that.
- 29:56The Honda Odyssey is actually like 42, 000, but The 2025
- 30:00Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is 51.
- 30:03Since when?
- 30:04According to MSRP.
- 30:06Does that include the cost of the additional transmissions?
- 30:08Hey, I got an update on that.
- 30:10You joke.
- 30:11You joke.
- 30:11Do you have it back yet?
- 30:13We never got, uh, we never got any closure on it.
- 30:15We're, we're on like transmission number four.
- 30:17It's all good.
- 30:18So, but get this.
- 30:19They sent us a letter now, because I guess they've had so
- 30:21many problems with those hybrids.
- 30:23They have extended the warranty on the hybrid transmission system for life.
- 30:29It will cost us 0 in a year and a half when we take it back in
- 30:33to get our fifth transmission.
- 30:34So it'll be all good.
- 30:350.
- 30:36But how much time?
- 30:37How much money is it going to cost you to buy a replacement car
- 30:40to use while that's in the shop?
- 30:43That is always the question.
- 30:44We were a little shaken in our boots the last time going like, is this it?
- 30:48Are we done?
- 30:49How much is this going to cost?
- 30:50We've been very fortunate.
- 30:51You know, we bought the max care from Chrysler when we bought it new.
- 30:54And so we haven't had to pay anything cause it's always been under warranty.
- 30:57But in Stellantis's defense to avoid a class action lawsuit, whatever, they just
- 31:03flat out did the same thing they did with the Jeeps during diesel gate and said,
- 31:07we're just going to extend the warranty.
- 31:08Here you go.
- 31:09Done.
- 31:09We'll take care of it.
- 31:10But at this rate, even though we have the superseded newer transmission and all this
- 31:16kind of stuff, it already failed once.
- 31:18So we're like, all right, we'll see how this goes.
- 31:21I thought for sure you were going to say they sent you a letter
- 31:25stating that they were going to buy it back because that seems to
- 31:27happen to all the cars that you buy.
- 31:29There's a buyback.
- 31:30That is 100 percent true.
- 31:31I'm waiting for that shoe to fall.
- 31:33So if you had the report, would you buy another minivan?
- 31:35You know, we've talked about that.
- 31:37It would either probably be an SUV or a minivan.
- 31:40I would maybe lean a little bit more into the Jeep camp.
- 31:43Talked about getting another diesel Jeep, something 4x4 because
- 31:46of where we live, and when it does snow, it snows pretty bad.
- 31:49Whoa, bad.
- 31:51The 4XE is appealing because it's hybrid and you get the all wheel
- 31:55drive, but the problem is the Jeep is really expensive, but in comparison
- 31:59to what a new Pacifica would cost.
- 32:01And there you go, new Pacifica for 10 grand more, would you get the ID Buzz?
- 32:06The problem I think is the ID Buzz.
- 32:09Needs to be a hybrid and not full electric.
- 32:11And then we would make the jump.
- 32:13I don't think my wife is ready for full electric.
- 32:15She said that before she loves the fact that when she runs out of power, she can
- 32:20just rely on the petrol or, you know, it's doing its regenerative thing or
- 32:23whatever, from a fuel economy standpoint, she's doing way better than with any
- 32:27diesel we ever had, because she's getting mixed driving 50 miles to the gallon.
- 32:32I mean, we've talked about this before.
- 32:33So the Pacific is really hard to replace.
- 32:36From an economic standpoint, the problem is the transmission keeps failing.
- 32:40Knock on wood, the Jeep has been super reliable and it probably
- 32:43will be for a very, very long time.
- 32:45My money sort of goes in that direction.
- 32:47And as the kids get older, the sliding doors aren't nearly as necessary,
- 32:51but they are super convenient.
- 32:53Like the sliding doors is like game changing.
- 32:55That's kind of where we're at.
- 32:56We bought the van because the kids are so young, knowing.
- 33:01That and about five years or so, we're going to upgrade to like a Tahoe or
- 33:06something else, but you still cannot beat the cargo capacity of the van.
- 33:10I mean, the van has saved our butts so many times.
- 33:12She's like random trip to Ikea and you're like, well, it's going to fit.
- 33:16It might not make it home, but it's going to fit.
- 33:18It's going to fit.
- 33:19Yeah, exactly.
- 33:20So Volkswagen is out of their minds.
- 33:2262, 000 for an electric van is just way, way too much.
- 33:27And you're only getting 300 miles of range.
- 33:2962, 000 and you can only go 300 miles.
- 33:31That makes for a really, really long road trip and experience if
- 33:35that's what you're using it for.
- 33:36On the other side of the Volkswagen camp and the horsepower war
- 33:41portfolio that they have, right?
- 33:42Because Bugatti, Audi, Porsche, all the hypercars that they build.
- 33:47I'm sitting here thinking like, are we building ID buzzes to
- 33:50offset the new Lamborghinis?
- 33:53Is that what this is all about?
- 33:54Because the new, I can't even pronounce, I didn't know there were this many different
- 33:58variants of bulls because apparently every Lamborghini is named after a bull
- 34:02or a bullfighter or something like that.
- 34:04But the Temerario, 907 horsepower.
- 34:08Who's going to drive that?
- 34:09Who's going to drive the 717 horsepower BMW wagon?
- 34:14Me and Brad raised our hands.
- 34:15We're going to do that.
- 34:16Yes.
- 34:17Yes.
- 34:17Sign me up.
- 34:18I'm good with 700.
- 34:18900 is a bit much.
- 34:20I think Eric's wrong.
- 34:21I'm in the opposite camp.
- 34:23I think the more power, the better.
- 34:25Oh, well then you're right in line for a Z06 then.
- 34:28Did you hear about that?
- 34:28Oh, I have not heard about it yet.
- 34:30Well, that's just it.
- 34:31Is this Lambo in response to the Z06?
- 34:34Because Hellcat's at 700 and Mustang's at 700.
- 34:37The demons at eight something.
- 34:39And yeah.
- 34:40Now we're at 900.
- 34:41By the way, the Z06 makes a thousand horsepower.
- 34:44I was not prepared for that.
- 34:45Neither are the people with the new balance shoes that are going to buy them.
- 34:50Yeah.
- 34:52How many you're going to run into the wall coming out of the pits in a track day?
- 34:56How many Hellcats were destroyed coming off the dealership lot?
- 34:59Oh my god, so many hulk heads.
- 35:01This Lamborghini looks amazing in this green.
- 35:04Another green car that I'm like all about.
- 35:06Green is back!
- 35:07But like good greens, not some like crappy greens that are Is
- 35:12it better than the Countach?
- 35:14Uh, no.
- 35:15To me, no.
- 35:15I'm all in on the Coontosh.
- 35:17The Coontosh has replaced the Diablo as my favorite Lamborghini.
- 35:21Which, by the way, I saw a Diablo today on the road.
- 35:23It was a blast from the past, and I was very happy to see one.
- 35:26But the new Coontosh, for me, is peak Lamborghini.
- 35:29This one just reminds me too much of every Huracan and whatever that came before it.
- 35:34Yeah, it's just a continuation of that evolution.
- 35:36It's pretty though.
- 35:37So there lies the problem with the VAG family taking over Lamborghini.
- 35:43When Lamborghini was Lamborghini, they would be like, all right, scrap it.
- 35:48Let's come up with something totally ridiculous.
- 35:50If you look at every Lamborghini up until VW group took over,
- 35:55they were just outlandish.
- 35:56They were garish.
- 35:57They were bold, daring stream colors, like insane cars.
- 36:02A lot of them are terrible to drive, but now Lamborghini has taken on this.
- 36:06911 model where we just continue to make it bigger, wider, more horsepower,
- 36:12blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 36:13And we're going through this evolutionary process.
- 36:15And so give it another name, it goes all the way back to like the Gallardo, right?
- 36:19I mean, it's like, have they really changed at all in the last 15 years plus?
- 36:24What was the last Lamborghini not vague influenced?
- 36:29Was it the mercy logo?
- 36:31Yeah, because Chrysler bought Lamborghini during the Diablo period.
- 36:36So, you know, Ferruccio sold off the company.
- 36:38I forget to who in between Chrysler and then Chrysler sold it off.
- 36:42It's changed hands a couple of times, but yeah, I think.
- 36:45I think the Murcielago might be, I know there was that prototype in there,
- 36:49the Kala that Italdesign did, that's sort of a bridge between the Diablo
- 36:54and the Murcielago if you look at it.
- 36:56Yeah.
- 36:56But yeah, ever since VW took over, to me, they're all the same except
- 36:59for the Countach because that's just a tribute car at the end of the day.
- 37:03Yeah.
- 37:03And the Murcielago is a very, very pretty car too.
- 37:06I mean, the Aventador was a pretty car.
- 37:08No, I didn't like the angles.
- 37:09I like the Murcielagos, just kind of very Diablo esque.
- 37:13Yeah.
- 37:14Updated Diablo styling.
- 37:15Well, you know what has updated styling?
- 37:18And they say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.
- 37:21I must be apparently due for an eye exam because I don't get it.
- 37:26The new A6 and S6 sportback e trons.
- 37:31And they're revealed, as it says here, with aerodynamics and tech as top of mind.
- 37:37You know what it looks like to me?
- 37:39It looks like a clog, or like those really big chunky shoes
- 37:42that women wear sometimes.
- 37:45It looks like a big chunky shoe.
- 37:48Tell me I'm wrong!
- 37:49Tell me I'm wrong.
- 37:50It's a giant clunky shoe with like a three inch rubber sole.
- 37:55From the back, it looks like an A3 that gained 2, 000 pounds.
- 37:59Yes.
- 38:00He really let himself go.
- 38:04I've read this before.
- 38:05Rich people are to blame for all of these really muted, boring
- 38:10primer colors that we have now.
- 38:12There is no way to make this shade of beige look good.
- 38:17Ever.
- 38:18On any car.
- 38:19Even a 911 would look terrible in this color.
- 38:21I disagree.
- 38:22I actually kind of like it on this car.
- 38:24Where is it beige?
- 38:25Beige?
- 38:26It's like a cream.
- 38:27It's like clamshell.
- 38:28It's ugly.
- 38:29Oh my god.
- 38:29The whole thing is hideous.
- 38:31It's portabella.
- 38:32What are yeah, it's portabella.
- 38:34This is the vegan Audi, okay?
- 38:36It's a portabella chunky shoe.
- 38:38Look at the mirrors.
- 38:40That's what I want you to focus in on.
- 38:42Whoa, are they cameras?
- 38:43They're just cameras.
- 38:44What is it that Tanya says?
- 38:45Hot garbage.
- 38:49I don't like the interior either.
- 38:50There's nothing about this that I like.
- 38:52That carpeted look on the seats.
- 38:55It reminds me of like office carpeting from the 90s.
- 38:58There's carpet on the dash too.
- 39:00The light up Audi rings on the back are kind of cool.
- 39:03That is kind of cool.
- 39:04No, they're not.
- 39:04They look so cool.
- 39:05Oh God, this thing is awful.
- 39:10I'm glad they brought back sliding accordion style slider
- 39:14thing there in the center console that's from like a 1984 quantum.
- 39:18That looks fantastic.
- 39:19This interior is tweed.
- 39:21I bet this interior is better in person than how it's designed.
- 39:25being represented in this photo.
- 39:27And this is probably microfiber, but it's being photographed horribly.
- 39:30The only thing that would be worse is corduroy.
- 39:32The rendering doesn't look right.
- 39:33And maybe it's the optics of the fish eye that they use.
- 39:37The door handles on the inside below the LCD screens that are the mirrors.
- 39:42They finally moved the handle that when the window opened,
- 39:45the water doesn't go right.
- 39:48No, because the water goes on top of the screen that is your
- 39:50mirror that is now inside the car.
- 39:52No, that looks like it's up in the dash, like where your air vent would be.
- 39:55This looks so Knight Rider.
- 39:57So here's our polling question number two for Eric and Tanya,
- 40:01those listening at home.
- 40:02The answer's no.
- 40:02This or the Tesla Model Y?
- 40:05Can I walk instead?
- 40:09You're going to be walking anyway with your Pacifica.
- 40:11Okay, I thought about this next one long and hard.
- 40:15The title just kills me.
- 40:17I think this is Volkswagen's only way back from the brink of extinction.
- 40:22So it reads, the Mark 8 GTI, that's what they're referring to, the Mark 8 might
- 40:27be around until 2035 with a gas engine.
- 40:32How does that help them from extinction?
- 40:34They've gone EV, EV, EV, EV, EV.
- 40:36Why would they keep A mark for 16 years.
- 40:39This is a play for them to be able to come back from their full EV
- 40:43model, because otherwise nobody's going to buy Volkswagen's anymore.
- 40:46So when they totally go off the edge and they decide to scrap the entire ID
- 40:50dot, whatever lineup, they can always.
- 40:52fall back on the GTI.
- 40:54It's been around forever.
- 40:55And this one will literally have been around forever.
- 40:57I'm just going to like a dodge dart, leave like three of them
- 41:00here and there at dealerships and be like, we're still selling them.
- 41:03Why would they not redesign it?
- 41:05Why would they not just release the Mark 9?
- 41:07Again, I've been putting a lot of useless thought behind this particular
- 41:11article, trying to even gain a clue as to what VW might be thinking.
- 41:16Also, why in VW's infinite.
- 41:20Styling wisdom.
- 41:21Did they put a GTI badge under the mirror?
- 41:23It looks terrible.
- 41:24That looks like somebody had a GTI badge in their parts bin and they
- 41:28walked up and just slapped it onto the side of somebody's car for fun.
- 41:32It's like those letters you buy at advanced auto to put on
- 41:34the back of your Yeah, it's the letters you get at Home Depot.
- 41:37Like when you're trying to.
- 41:39Turbo S with the big for sale sign S.
- 41:42I mean, it could be worse.
- 41:43It could be a Nissan GTR badge.
- 41:45People put those on everything too.
- 41:47After straining my mind grapes on this for a while, here's the
- 41:50only thing I could come up with.
- 41:52Okay.
- 41:52There are bans in certain parts of the world against diesel and new
- 41:58petrol cars and things like that.
- 42:00If Volkswagen does the Microsoft thing or the Apple thing, I guess,
- 42:04and says, this is the last operating system you'll ever need liars.
- 42:08The GTI, if they keep on the mark eight platform and to your point, Tanya,
- 42:12they keep restyling it just a little bit, but the chassis stays the same.
- 42:16And the power plant basically stays the same.
- 42:18Is it really a new car when you haven't changed?
- 42:22Let's say the software version, it's still GTI version eight.
- 42:26So it's not a new car.
- 42:28It's an old car that they just continue to sell forever.
- 42:31So in my mind, they can get around these bans that have been maybe
- 42:35prematurely activated, where we've heard things like 2025, 2027, 2029, 2035.
- 42:42There's all these numbers floating around.
- 42:44So this way, Volkswagen says, all right, Mark 8 is the last GTI you'll
- 42:47ever need, and that we'll ever build.
- 42:49It's not a new car anymore.
- 42:50So I think this is a loophole that they're looking to execute on.
- 42:54I have no idea what they're doing, nor do I care.
- 42:57I'm starting to go down the rabbit hole like Eric did.
- 43:00It mentions in the article that the 74 Mark I was manufactured for 34
- 43:05years with the South African City Golf production ending in 2009.
- 43:10That is true.
- 43:11Is this going to be like the original Beetle was manufactured
- 43:15for what, 50 years because they still made them in Mexico and stuff?
- 43:19They made them in Mexico until 2003.
- 43:21Yeah.
- 43:21So are they going to.
- 43:23Sell the Mark 8 alongside like a Mark 9 or a Mark 10 or whatever in the future.
- 43:29Well, they'll sell it alongside the e golf, whatever it'll be called, right?
- 43:32Because they can't make a new petrol powered golf if the rules
- 43:37are upheld the way they're written.
- 43:39Got it.
- 43:40Okay.
- 43:40Yeah.
- 43:40So that's my conspiracy theory, tinfoil hat or otherwise.
- 43:44I think they're going to do a 9 11 strategy and go like the Lamborghini.
- 43:49And it's certainly not a new car.
- 43:50It's going to be the Mark 8.
- 43:511, the Mark 8.
- 43:522, the Mark 8.
- 43:544.
- 43:54Porsche already started doing that.
- 43:56How can you have a Mark 8 and a Mark 9?
- 43:58The Mark 8 petrol.
- 44:00Alongside the Mark 9 electric vault.
- 44:03How can you have a Mustang and a Mustang Mach E?
- 44:05What Mustang Mach E?
- 44:07That's not a Mustang.
- 44:07Because up to this point, all Marks have been petrol or diesel.
- 44:12And so if the 9 is now electric, what if they do decide to make
- 44:15another petrol after the 8?
- 44:17They're just going to skip and go 10?
- 44:18Well, they've already said 8.
- 44:195.
- 44:20It's going to be like BMW.
- 44:21The odd numbers are the four doors and the even numbers are the two
- 44:25doors, but sometimes four doors don't even start in Volkswagen terms.
- 44:29The odd numbers are going to be the electrics.
- 44:32And then the even numbers are going to be the petrols.
- 44:34But did you guys see this commercial that was filmed in our backyard of
- 44:38at all places, summit point raceway, good old Tanner, Tanner versus Tanner.
- 44:43Like I didn't understand this commercial on multiple levels.
- 44:46I think it was a really nice videography.
- 44:49It was well edited.
- 44:50Yes, that was nice.
- 44:51They put a GTI quote head to head with an R.
- 44:55I don't understand.
- 44:57I don't know.
- 44:58You go through the lab.
- 44:59They're kind of like fighting each other.
- 45:00Okay, sure.
- 45:01Like one's ahead.
- 45:02The other's ahead.
- 45:03He literally comes out of nine.
- 45:05And he's making the motions like he's rowing a goddamn boat up the hill in
- 45:10the R like I got to row this mother effer to even get close to the GTI.
- 45:15And then he finishes in the R have a car length ahead of the GTI.
- 45:18It's like, what advertising is this?
- 45:20So you go spend how much more than R to have the same, the same performance
- 45:26of the GTI, go spend 20, 30 grand more to have barely a faster car.
- 45:31This is like the opposite of what Porsche would have done.
- 45:33Didn't they purposefully make the Cayman worse so it wouldn't
- 45:38compete with the 911 or something?
- 45:39Because they didn't want to take away sales from the 911.
- 45:41If Porsche had made this commercial.
- 45:43It would have lapped itself.
- 45:44They would have had the Paisley 917 and the 918 Carrera and the this and
- 45:51that, and then suddenly a take hand would have appeared by a UFO and
- 45:55gone into warp speed and destroyed everything in like a nuclear inferno.
- 46:00Volkswagen on the other hand is like.
- 46:02Hey, our shitbox that costs 20, 000 less than our flagship is
- 46:07just as fast as our flagship.
- 46:09Don't you want to buy our flagship?
- 46:11And this is what I've been saying about the Golf, which
- 46:13is a problem with the Golf.
- 46:15Everybody goes, Ooh, ah, go far, errr.
- 46:18Dude, it weighs 600 pounds more than the front wheel drive, and you're carrying
- 46:22around a bunch of ballast for nothing.
- 46:24So yeah, they threw 50 more horsepower at it, but at the end of the day, the
- 46:28power to weight ratio is the same.
- 46:30So you're still driving a shitbox.
- 46:31But you have more stuff that you're lugging around and you have less
- 46:35trunk space and more problems and more maintenance and everything
- 46:38that goes along with that.
- 46:39So it's sort of like, like if I had to choose between the two,
- 46:43I'd probably just buy the regular GTI because it came with a manual.
- 46:47They showed that when I was like, all right, you've won me over there
- 46:50and I'm going to save 20 grand by the time it's all said and done.
- 46:53So.
- 46:53If I look at it as not an enthusiast and not a critic, ooh, that's an exciting
- 46:58commercial and isn't that amazing that they filmed it at Summit Point.
- 47:01I'm proud of them for all of those things.
- 47:03But as an enthusiast, I look at it and go, as I talked about on
- 47:06Discord, it doesn't make sense.
- 47:08This is a stupid commercial.
- 47:09It doesn't sell me, not like if you go back and look at the original.
- 47:13R 32 commercials they did where they were at the VW test track and they're
- 47:18up on the bank and they're doing, you know, 150 plus mile an hour and like
- 47:22all this stuff and it was like, holy cow, VW, they can do that kind of speed.
- 47:26This is just like, okay.
- 47:28And does anybody even remember Tanner Faust other than from the
- 47:31flop that was top gear America?
- 47:33I mean, global rally cross has been gone for like a decade now.
- 47:37He's probably still contractually obligated to do things for Volkswagen.
- 47:40I have a feeling.
- 47:40Yes, it was absolutely good for some point.
- 47:43They're going to sell negative 10 GTIs because of that.
- 47:47Meanwhile, in Lower Saxony, BMW is back on the docket.
- 47:51This time with some recalls.
- 47:53So we talked in the past, what, 270, 000 Volkswagens recalled, you know,
- 47:58umpteen million Teslas have been recalled, all this kind of stuff.
- 48:02Well, BMW is adding their name to the list.
- 48:04720, 000 vehicles recalled because of a fire risk that starts.
- 48:10With a short circuit and a water pump.
- 48:12Put itself out.
- 48:13This is the kind of shit that drives me nuts about BMW.
- 48:16You know they've got water cooled alternators.
- 48:19And like other crazy concoctions that they've come up with on
- 48:23these cars over the years.
- 48:24It is not necessary and it is not advised.
- 48:28To mix electronics and water.
- 48:30I'm just going to flat out say that as a public service announcement.
- 48:33Well, where exactly is the fire?
- 48:36Where's the water pump located on the BMW?
- 48:38Well, if it's anything like my E36, it was right in the front, like
- 48:42right behind this big ass pulley.
- 48:43So I guess basically there's a water pump failure and the water
- 48:47must go like everywhere and hit some sort of crucial system.
- 48:49Cause here it says the fix is very straightforward.
- 48:52BMW will inspect the water pump and the problematic plug and replace it.
- 48:56If there's any damage found and a shield will be installed to
- 48:59protect the plug from errant.
- 49:01Fluids again, water and electricity don't mix.
- 49:04It affects a wide range of cars from like 2012 through 2018.
- 49:10It looks like on this list, you're talking X one Z fours, five series,
- 49:14three series, X five, two series, three series GTs that we know Brad doesn't
- 49:18like X threes, X fours, four series.
- 49:19The list goes on and on and on.
- 49:21And it's just like, that's a lot of cars.
- 49:22I mean, 720, 000 cars is nothing to sneeze at.
- 49:25So.
- 49:25If you own one of these BMWs and they're willing to replace this for
- 49:29free, just go get it done before you end up with a smoldering pile of metal.
- 49:34And if you have had your car melt to the ground and didn't know why, maybe
- 49:38it's time for a class action lawsuit.
- 49:40Moving on.
- 49:41Now it's time for some Stellantis news.
- 49:44Going back to Australia, I guess this month it was pretty
- 49:46slow, so we're going down under.
- 49:48Did you guys know that Citroën has been selling cars in Australia since 1923?
- 49:53No, but it looks like Volkswagen is gonna slide in quite nicely right into
- 49:57Australia's DMs once Citroën pulls out.
- 50:00That's right, Citroën is leaving Australia after a hundred years of sales.
- 50:05Did you say a hundred years of sales or fails?
- 50:07Well, you know, fails is true because they said reportedly Ferrari
- 50:12outsold them last year in Australia.
- 50:14And you know, that's not a lot of cars.
- 50:16So the bigger question is if a Citroen leaves Australia and no one's there
- 50:20to see it, does it make a noise?
- 50:21Yeah.
- 50:22Does anybody care?
- 50:24But there's some sad news for Tanya.
- 50:26Actually, more like sad panda news for Tanya.
- 50:29What's happening to the Fiat Panda?
- 50:31There's a silver lining, because although the 4th gen Fiat Panda is going to go
- 50:36away after over a decade of sales in the UK, it's making room for the Grand Panda.
- 50:41The Grand Panda.
- 50:43I want this, but it's never going to come here.
- 50:46Hybrid or electric powertrain.
- 50:48That is awesome.
- 50:49Super cool.
- 50:50That is pretty sweet.
- 50:51Tanya, you just need to go buy a Jeep Renegade.
- 50:54It basically looks like a Renegade.
- 50:55And it says Grand, but apparently it's smaller, shorter wheelbase than the 500X.
- 51:00So it's not a very big car.
- 51:01Really?
- 51:02It's a Granda.
- 51:0310 inches smaller.
- 51:04That's a significant.
- 51:05So maybe bigger than a Gen 4, but I really like the way they did the grill
- 51:12and the headlights and everything.
- 51:13I think that looks really cool.
- 51:15The panda that's embossed into the side skirt, I take it or leave it.
- 51:21It makes it rugged.
- 51:22It also looks like a handle.
- 51:24This is pretty cool though.
- 51:25I would use this as a runabout.
- 51:26I would buy one and like just under 22 pounds, that's Under 30 USD.
- 51:31That's not bad.
- 51:31And it's a hatchback.
- 51:32It's all the things.
- 51:33Again, pandas are known for being rugged.
- 51:35Get it in a hybrid, so you're not relying on only EV.
- 51:38Those wheels, though.
- 51:39Those wheels are killing me.
- 51:41They're so 80s.
- 51:42Beat Ritmo had wheels like this.
- 51:45Like, they're bizarre, but you can't stop looking at them.
- 51:48They don't show it parked.
- 51:50So you can't really see what the wheels look like.
- 51:52When's the grand panda Abarth coming out?
- 51:56The grand Abarth.
- 51:57Yeah, I don't know.
- 51:58This is supposed to come out next year and it won't come here.
- 52:00Of course.
- 52:01Why would they?
- 52:03Maybe it will.
- 52:03And they'll call it the Dodge Nitro.
- 52:05Cause it does look like that from the back.
- 52:07A little bit.
- 52:07It'll be, it won't be the dart.
- 52:09What else did Dodge just come out with?
- 52:10Yeah, but that flat back and the Fiat there, there's like a lot of like original
- 52:15Panda, like it's exuding it, but then it's like, oh, I'm new and I'm modern.
- 52:19But, oh, you can tell that I'm trying to recall the old days.
- 52:23So our listeners want to know why hasn't Tanya imported a Fiat Panda yet?
- 52:28I don't have a good answer.
- 52:29They're so cheap.
- 52:30Well, then I think we found our next segment updates on
- 52:34Tanya importing a Fiat Panda.
- 52:36You might get a cyber check first.
- 52:37This episode's update, no update.
- 52:40I don't know how to do it.
- 52:41So.
- 52:42Oh, but there are ways to do it.
- 52:44It's not difficult.
- 52:45You just find one of those companies that does the importing.
- 52:47One of those guys.
- 52:50You talked to that guy who imported the Volvo from, uh, GTM.
- 52:53Yeah, that's right.
- 52:54Season one of our show, we had a guy import a Volvo from Sweden.
- 52:57That's right.
- 52:58I'll go see if the one in Texas is for sale.
- 52:59One of those guys that imported one.
- 53:01It's gotta be a four by four Sisley though.
- 53:02You gotta have the Sisley like James May had on Top Gear.
- 53:05Well, I mean, if you're gonna import one, you gotta get top of the line.
- 53:09Top speed, 45 miles an hour.
- 53:11Yeah.
- 53:12Well, anyway, moving on with a little bit more domestic news, shying
- 53:15away from Styliantis yet again.
- 53:18I think Big Brother is listening, because as soon as we stopped talking about the
- 53:21Maverick and the Ranger, Super Duty, and all that stuff last month, I get another
- 53:24thing coming flying across my desk.
- 53:26Get this!
- 53:27The Maverick Lobo Edition.
- 53:29And I'm like, okay, what?
- 53:31Now, apparently this truck is down to clown, according to car and driver.
- 53:37Like who writes these articles?
- 53:38Like seriously, what's the point of it?
- 53:40It's got wheels that look like they came off of kit.
- 53:43Other than that, it's got stitched leather seats.
- 53:45I mean, it's a Maverick.
- 53:46I mean, it's lowered, low boy, lowered.
- 53:49Yeah, whatever.
- 53:49They dropped it half an inch in the front and 1.
- 53:521 inches in the rear.
- 53:53Woo.
- 53:54Like that's like a street kit on a GTI.
- 53:57Like.
- 53:57Come on, really?
- 53:58Why in the picture does it look like it's lowered more in the front?
- 54:02I don't know.
- 54:03And they say it comes with brakes from the Focus ST, which I'm scratching
- 54:08my head going, Focus ST is a really small car in comparison to this truck.
- 54:13And it has the twin clutch from the Bronco Sport.
- 54:16Okay, great.
- 54:16And the power is unchanged.
- 54:19You're going to spend more.
- 54:20You're gonna spend 37, 000 for the Lobo.
- 54:23For a 238 horsepower, two liter EcoBoost four cylinder.
- 54:27Okay, wait, wait, wait.
- 54:28Where does it say EcoBoost?
- 54:29I've been trying to find that.
- 54:30You know it's the EcoBoost.
- 54:31They only make one four cylinder.
- 54:33Do they?
- 54:34I don't know.
- 54:35Can you imagine this truck with like the four cylinder
- 54:38from the Focus back in the day?
- 54:41You'd want to get out and light it on fire.
- 54:43It'd be horrible.
- 54:44That's the type of stuff I've come to expect from Ford.
- 54:47So that's why I was looking.
- 54:48Terrible.
- 54:49Because nowhere in the article does it say EcoBoost, which I would have
- 54:53thought would have been everywhere.
- 54:54Every time they mentioned the motor, it would have been EcoBoost.
- 54:57There's another article that says turbocharged four cylinder.
- 54:59See, there you go.
- 55:00Okay, so that is the EcoBoost then.
- 55:02238 is pretty weak even for the EcoBoost too, because the power pack on the Mustang
- 55:06was like 278 or something like that.
- 55:09Apparently the setup has been de-tuned for 2025.
- 55:12It's going down.
- 55:14They took away horsepower.
- 55:15You know what this is?
- 55:17This is the Chevy S 10 Extreme from the nineties.
- 55:21Yes.
- 55:21With the same 4.3 liter, but a body kit and lowered.
- 55:25Yep.
- 55:25And just an, it is an appearance package.
- 55:27Basically, if you already had a Mave, those wheels are ugly.
- 55:30Wouldn't you just buy something aftermarket that's better?
- 55:33I don't know.
- 55:33The wheels are kind of cool.
- 55:34They're very mad Max to me.
- 55:36Yeah, but okay.
- 55:37They're sort of like the bowling balls.
- 55:38From the 82 Trans Am, right?
- 55:40In my opinion, math, math is a wonderful, get off your ass and do some math, math.
- 55:49I know where you're going with this, Tanya.
- 55:51So for 28 grand, you can buy a regular Ford Mamret, or you can
- 55:55spend 8, 000 more starting at 36, six for wheels and suspension.
- 56:01So you can't buy a new suspension and four new wheels for less than eight grand.
- 56:06You could put this sucker on bags and better wheels for less than eight grand.
- 56:10But the interior, you're not going to get the slightly upgraded interior.
- 56:14Slightly upgraded.
- 56:15Oh, give me a break.
- 56:18This is trash.
- 56:19Nobody's gonna buy that thing.
- 56:21Someone's going to buy it as someone who's not a fan of the Maverick to
- 56:24begin with, I think all of this is dumb.
- 56:26I mean, it's still only 36, 000 for a pickup truck.
- 56:28So somebody is going to buy it, but it's not, it's a Honda Ridgeline.
- 56:32Basically people bought that they did.
- 56:36Oh my God.
- 56:37I laugh at them every single time I see one.
- 56:40All right.
- 56:40Well, we got a call back.
- 56:42Something we talked about a couple of drive thrus that go where GM had
- 56:45hired one of this C level folks from Apple and all this, they're going
- 56:49to bring in the new technology and the systems are going to be similar.
- 56:53You know, it's not going to be GM with theirs and Cadillac with the other thing
- 56:55and this and that and the other whatever since then that guy packed it up left
- 56:59and they've laid off 5, 000 people with retirement buyouts and all sorts of stuff.
- 57:03And guess what?
- 57:03I even got a notice from LinkedIn that was like, Hey, pump the brakes.
- 57:07Have you heard the latest GMs laying off another thousand people, but
- 57:12quote Not downsizing due to cost cuts.
- 57:16Yeah.
- 57:16Okay, sure.
- 57:17They've got to be able to afford those bonuses and golden
- 57:21parachutes for the C suites.
- 57:23Unbelievable.
- 57:24Again, making all the right moves.
- 57:25I guess they got to pay for their C8R program somehow.
- 57:29Right.
- 57:30But there is no C8R program.
- 57:32Remember GM pulled out of sponsorship for that.
- 57:36Well, nobody knows what GM's building.
- 57:38They haven't really dipped their toes back into the EV world.
- 57:41There's no hybrids.
- 57:43There's no crews.
- 57:44GM doesn't know what GM's building.
- 57:46We've gone to that well, several times and the bucket comes up dry.
- 57:49So they're monoliths.
- 57:50It's like moving mountains to get anything to happen over there.
- 57:54So in 10 or 20 years, we'll understand what GM was up to in 2024.
- 57:58It's all good.
- 57:59But maybe it's because they got a quote unquote, allegedly not cutting
- 58:03costs due to downsizing or whatever, because they have to pay 15 million
- 58:07in a class action lawsuit to Duramax owners because of the fuel pump problem.
- 58:11Surprise, surprise.
- 58:12Guess who's involved with them?
- 58:14Bosch.
- 58:15Here we go again.
- 58:17More diesel gate nonsense, but it could also be, and I'm surprised Tanya didn't
- 58:21jump on me for this bad investments.
- 58:24Like, Oh, I don't know.
- 58:25Nicola, maybe bad investments like the development of the
- 58:30most recent Impala in Malibu.
- 58:32I can't believe people buy those cars.
- 58:33Enterprise buys those cars.
- 58:35So you couldn't see me the other day.
- 58:37I was trying to point to you when we were following each other.
- 58:39Was that before or after we almost got pulled over by the cop?
- 58:43Yeah, thank you.
- 58:44Thank you.
- 58:45Because I wasn't stupidly.
- 58:47I'm like, Oh, Eric's gonna set the pace correctly because he's in front.
- 58:51Meanwhile, I would have been the sucker that got caught.
- 58:54Anyway, no, no, no.
- 58:56We were already really close back home.
- 58:58But there was a Malibu RS or something like that.
- 59:01I was like, what is this?
- 59:03Icarb right there next to us.
- 59:06I was like, what?
- 59:08I got confused on the road.
- 59:09I saw a Colorado with a V badge.
- 59:12And I was like, they made a Colorado V?
- 59:14Like a CTSB and then I got closer and it says V6.
- 59:17So obviously that's my poor eyesight at this point.
- 59:21Because that six is like a red color.
- 59:23Right?
- 59:24The V is silver and the six is red.
- 59:26Exactly.
- 59:27So it's hard to see the red from a distance, but it was like Colorado B?
- 59:31It's weirder things out there.
- 59:32It's the Colorado V black lung.
- 59:34The black lung.
- 59:37That's the diesel version.
- 59:40Speaking of the black lung GR Corolla owners, Tanya, this could have been you.
- 59:45Ah, it would have been me.
- 59:50Luck is not on our side sometimes, but neither is it for these folks.
- 59:54Can you believe this stuff?
- 59:56More than one GR Corolla has burned to the ground.
- 59:59And by more than one, two.
- 1:00:02It's a true statement.
- 1:00:03Ah, well.
- 1:00:05It's not funny, especially since it was like middle finger because
- 1:00:09our warranty says that you shouldn't exceed 85 miles an hour.
- 1:00:14Like what?
- 1:00:16I read this several times and I agree with the author of this particular article
- 1:00:21because one of the things he pointed out Toyota is using this logic of Okay.
- 1:00:25We built a car that can do, let's say 140 miles an hour, right?
- 1:00:28Cause the GR Corolla is peppy and it's fast.
- 1:00:30This is the circuit edition.
- 1:00:32So this is the track prepped one, right?
- 1:00:34And then there's whatever that midnight murdered out Mitsu package.
- 1:00:38Yeah.
- 1:00:38That's really the track one because it comes with no back seats and like
- 1:00:41a half gauge and all that stuff.
- 1:00:43GR Corolla GT3 or whatever it is.
- 1:00:45Right.
- 1:00:45So let's just say they built 140 mile an hour hatchback.
- 1:00:49Okay, fine.
- 1:00:50That you can't accelerate.
- 1:00:52Yeah.
- 1:00:52Drive it like you're going to the grocery store.
- 1:00:54You shouldn't exceed 85, which is higher than most U.
- 1:00:57S.
- 1:00:57speed limits, except if like you're in the middle of Montana
- 1:01:00or something like that, right?
- 1:01:01Where there is a speed limit.
- 1:01:02And that's fine, but Dot, dot, dot.
- 1:01:04The author says and points out when you buy one of these cars,
- 1:01:09Toyota gifts you a track day.
- 1:01:11Yeah, and you will exceed 85 miles an hour.
- 1:01:14So here's the part that really scares me and makes it so I will never buy a Toyota
- 1:01:19performance car if this is the case.
- 1:01:21It is.
- 1:01:21Toyota told him at some point in the car's life, it sent out a data
- 1:01:26packet that included the car's speed.
- 1:01:29I mean, Skynet alert, what in the world is this?
- 1:01:33Yeah, that's the scary part.
- 1:01:34It's sending back pings with data to Toyota that they can use to void
- 1:01:40my warranty because they deem fit.
- 1:01:42First of all, do they ever explain what that certain speed is?
- 1:01:45I don't see anywhere where it says, but apparently he
- 1:01:48went 114 miles per hour once.
- 1:01:51And they don't care that the car comes with a track day.
- 1:01:53I guess you have to go to a track where you do not exceed that speed.
- 1:01:56That to me is very scary that my car is going to ping Toyota with data about me.
- 1:02:01Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:02:01And there's been tons of cases about that.
- 1:02:04And it's not just Tesla, you know, before people get on the bandwagon
- 1:02:07and start blaring those trumpets.
- 1:02:09It's other brands that are doing exactly what you're saying.
- 1:02:12They're snooping on you.
- 1:02:13This is what we've said about those insurance companies.
- 1:02:16They're like, plug this thing into your OBD for the good driver discount.
- 1:02:19Yeah, you can keep all that crap.
- 1:02:21But in this case, how do we know that this alleged 114 mile an hour that
- 1:02:26this gentleman did with his GR Corolla?
- 1:02:29Wasn't at summit point as an example.
- 1:02:31Maybe it was Tanner Faust shooting a commercial with a regular Corolla
- 1:02:35showing how good the two are together.
- 1:02:37But the point is we don't have any reason, season or justification
- 1:02:42for the 114 mile an hour.
- 1:02:44And I'm not trying to absolve anyone of their sins, but the point is you
- 1:02:48build a performance car that can't do what it's supposed to do on paper.
- 1:02:53Say one of these things burned to the ground during a test,
- 1:02:57like car drivers testing the car.
- 1:02:59How do you know that this wasn't a demo car at some point?
- 1:03:02You don't know.
- 1:03:03There's so many variables.
- 1:03:04The problem here is Toyota's been known for having really good
- 1:03:08warranties and being upstanding and all those kinds of things.
- 1:03:11Not if you own a GR Corolla.
- 1:03:13Does this extend to all GR products?
- 1:03:16The 86, the Supra, the Yaris, and so on down the line?
- 1:03:20This is the first we're hearing about it because the Corolla is the newest car.
- 1:03:24How does this apply to other vehicles?
- 1:03:26So Brad, you do a maneuver on the highway and you got to go around
- 1:03:30a semi truck and you hit the not recommended speed of 85, maybe you do
- 1:03:3486 miles an hour to get around them.
- 1:03:36Did you just void the warranty on your Sienna?
- 1:03:38You know, that's a great question because I've done triple digits and Sienna.
- 1:03:45So I don't know what type of data, but I bought the vehicle used.
- 1:03:48So I'm not even relying on Toyota for the warranty anyway.
- 1:03:51If it's not calling home like ET.
- 1:03:53Well, true.
- 1:03:54They're being somewhat misleading.
- 1:03:56The author or Toyota?
- 1:03:58Everyone.
- 1:03:58Everything on this, because 85 mile an hour thing, if this is
- 1:04:02a quote from the Toyota manual.
- 1:04:04It just says to not drive over 85 miles an hour unless your vehicle
- 1:04:07has high speed capability tires.
- 1:04:10So that statement alone goes, hey, it's okay, go faster if you've got ultra
- 1:04:14high performance summers or slicks on.
- 1:04:16Driving over 85 may result in tire failure, loss of
- 1:04:19control, and possible injuries.
- 1:04:20Why would you sell this car with Maypops?
- 1:04:23Well, that's just legalese speak, although it's very specific to say 85
- 1:04:27miles an hour and not like, Average posted speed limit or something, right?
- 1:04:31Like you're basically saying it's okay to feed, but just
- 1:04:33don't speed over this amount.
- 1:04:35If we go to tire rack right now and look for replacement tires
- 1:04:38for a GR Corolla, you don't think those are Z or V rated tires?
- 1:04:42That's what that means.
- 1:04:44ZR, VR, whatever, those are speed ratings.
- 1:04:47And anything in that range is going to be above a hundred mile an hour.
- 1:04:51Just go to Toyota's website and see what tires.
- 1:04:53Were they selling Grius tires on a GR Corolla?
- 1:04:56From the factory, the car comes with 235 40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport
- 1:05:024 high performance summer tires.
- 1:05:04Those are 150 mile an hour tire, easily.
- 1:05:06Michelin Pilot Sport, are you kidding me?
- 1:05:09Can't exceed 85 mile an hour, my butt.
- 1:05:11Pilot Sports are 300.
- 1:05:13300 tread wears autocross tire, 200 tread wears a track tire.
- 1:05:16And then once you go below that, you're starting to dip into slicks and all that.
- 1:05:19The moral to the story is.
- 1:05:20Lots of horsepower with a small engine means lots of heat, and in a confined
- 1:05:26space, like a hatchback, transverse, there's not a lot of room for airflow.
- 1:05:31I don't know that that's the problem, because if you read the second
- 1:05:34guy's experience, it almost sounds like it was an electrical error.
- 1:05:37I thought I read somewhere else that somebody blew a hole in
- 1:05:40the side of one of those motors.
- 1:05:41The other guy that was driving his, he got a phone notification from
- 1:05:45Toyota Connect that said there was a malfunctioning electronic control.
- 1:05:49Check the engine.
- 1:05:50And then he said he didn't feel any loss of power.
- 1:05:53Boom.
- 1:05:53And then smoke started coming out, pulled over, and then it went up in flames.
- 1:05:57Zero warning.
- 1:05:58Well, you got a warning.
- 1:05:59You got a text message.
- 1:06:00You know, don't text and drive, but maybe it came up on a screen or something, but
- 1:06:03good thing you read that text message.
- 1:06:05I mean, the smoke would have been obvious and you would have pulled over anyway.
- 1:06:07So this begs the question, what is going on with Toyota?
- 1:06:10Because Not too long ago, they had issues with the turbo sixes and the hundreds too.
- 1:06:16Something is afoot at the circle.
- 1:06:17Okay.
- 1:06:18It's unfortunate because their reputation has been built on their reliability.
- 1:06:22And yeah, but that reputation was built on non turbo engines.
- 1:06:26Think about that for a second.
- 1:06:28True.
- 1:06:28All of their long standing, hard working cars are non turbo cars.
- 1:06:33Like, they've dipped their toe in the German pond, and I think they've realized
- 1:06:37that the water's a little too hot.
- 1:06:39But, to counter that, the Turbo Supra from the 90s was one of
- 1:06:43the best built motors ever.
- 1:06:45The 2JZ is an incredible engine.
- 1:06:47There is no doubt.
- 1:06:48But think about that.
- 1:06:49They haven't had another turbo engine, really, since.
- 1:06:52You're right.
- 1:06:53Yeah.
- 1:06:53Yeah.
- 1:06:53I mean, the first one that came out since then was the one that
- 1:06:56they partnered with BMW on.
- 1:06:58And if you think about it, the BRZ or the 86, which continues to be
- 1:07:03non turbo, Toyota must have told Subaru, because we're all sitting
- 1:07:06here going, it's such a slug.
- 1:07:08Why wouldn't you put a turbo on it?
- 1:07:10I'm thinking Toyota's like.
- 1:07:11No turbos, no turbos, no turbos.
- 1:07:13And then finally the bow broke.
- 1:07:15And with the Yaris, because basically the motor in the Corolla is the motor from the
- 1:07:19Yaris, the Celicas came turbocharged too.
- 1:07:22So were they the same motor as the Supras?
- 1:07:24But the Celicas were turbocharged back in the eighties and nineties.
- 1:07:27Way back.
- 1:07:28Way back.
- 1:07:28Yeah.
- 1:07:29Cause you're talking about the alt track or whatever it's called.
- 1:07:31The Celicas after that weren't turbo.
- 1:07:33Are we just saying then they forgot how to build turbos?
- 1:07:35Yes.
- 1:07:36The technology has changed.
- 1:07:37They also forgot how to build inline sixes, which is why
- 1:07:40the Supra is a BMW engine.
- 1:07:42What's happening is they're cutting corners.
- 1:07:44More likely.
- 1:07:44And the 2JZ engineering won out, not finance.
- 1:07:49And that's why it was so overbuilt.
- 1:07:51Well, not only that, packaging of the 2JZ, it was longitudinal.
- 1:07:55So again, it goes back to airflow.
- 1:07:57You've got a lot of stuff going on in a very small space.
- 1:08:00Not to say that the Supra Was a Buick Riviera under the hood, but the
- 1:08:05point is with an inline, there was more ways to cool it than there is
- 1:08:10in those Yaris's and those Corollas.
- 1:08:12Yeah.
- 1:08:12And the thing is the Yaris has proven itself on the WRC stage, but
- 1:08:17that's a race car and it's different.
- 1:08:19If you looked at how many louvers and vents and cooling and ducks and wings and
- 1:08:23fenders and everything that those cars have, they're nothing like the street car.
- 1:08:27Plus the.
- 1:08:27The chassis is all tube frame.
- 1:08:29They've got a lot more room for the heat to be dissipated than in the street cars.
- 1:08:33All I'm going to say is I would not want to own a turbo Toyota right now.
- 1:08:39I'll stick to my big, slow laboring V8 that just kind of putt putts around
- 1:08:44at like 1200 RPM at 70 miles an hour.
- 1:08:48And it'll be big, slow and laboring for the next hundred years.
- 1:08:51Exactly.
- 1:08:52It's good.
- 1:08:52It's going to last me forever.
- 1:08:53So I'll stick to that.
- 1:08:54You know, Brad, we talked about a whole bunch of cars over the years,
- 1:08:58lost and found, you know, things you can still get on the dealership lot.
- 1:09:01And I think up until not too long ago, you could still get
- 1:09:04NSXs on the dealership lot.
- 1:09:07And we were like, man, did they stop making that car like in 2016
- 1:09:10or 2018 or something like that?
- 1:09:12Acura.
- 1:09:13Confirms a new NSX, we're going to put air quotes around that, is headed
- 1:09:18to production with an EV power plant.
- 1:09:20Did you see me on there?
- 1:09:21That's how I feel about rich nerds doing rich nerd things.
- 1:09:24And I'm going to be the great car knack for a moment and say, this is going to
- 1:09:28sell 1 percent of what the NSX sold.
- 1:09:32Which was already 1 percent of what Honda sold.
- 1:09:34Exactly.
- 1:09:35The NSX was already a hybrid, especially in racing.
- 1:09:38So that's where the E Ray got its inspiration from, right?
- 1:09:41So I'm like, uh, Do we really need this?
- 1:09:44But I will say this, you know, kind of speaking to the E Ray and speaking to
- 1:09:48the Corvette and the Lamborghini that we were talking about earlier, it is
- 1:09:51sort of amazing that cars like this are still being produced, these like
- 1:09:55quote unquote supercars or hypercars.
- 1:09:57I think it's interesting though, and I heard somebody say this recently, that
- 1:10:01companies like Corvette producing cars like the C8 allow the other manufacturers
- 1:10:07to continue to build stuff like this.
- 1:10:09And it's not even in a competitive way.
- 1:10:11It's like, well, if GM is still doing it, then we can still do it too.
- 1:10:15There must be interest.
- 1:10:15There must be people that want to buy it.
- 1:10:17It's a really interesting way of kind of framing why supercars still exist.
- 1:10:21Because if you think about it, they're impractical.
- 1:10:23They're expensive.
- 1:10:24They're not economical in any way, shape, or form.
- 1:10:27And it's like, why do we still have these other than for the posters on our wall?
- 1:10:30In reality, with AI being what it is these days, Acura could make
- 1:10:35an NSX that we can put on our wall that they'll never produce.
- 1:10:38And I'll still look at it and go, man, that's.
- 1:10:39It's really sexy.
- 1:10:40It's really nice, but it's fake.
- 1:10:41But I have to applaud them for their tenacity to continue to pursue these
- 1:10:46ideas that supercars need to be built because they are awe inspiring.
- 1:10:51They're a testament to the technology and to the advancement of the companies.
- 1:10:53But I don't think this is going to sell well.
- 1:10:56I took the slow boat to justify that there.
- 1:10:58Sorry guys.
- 1:10:59I'm sorry.
- 1:11:00Were you saying something?
- 1:11:03I blacked out for a minute.
- 1:11:04That's the second time she's done that to us this episode.
- 1:11:07What was the other time?
- 1:11:09When we were doing the Letterman Top 15.
- 1:11:11Oh my god.
- 1:11:13Oh, this there's oh my god.
- 1:11:15That was some dry stuff, but I hope you enjoyed it.
- 1:11:19We're just not tickling Tanya's fancies this time.
- 1:11:22She's not into it.
- 1:11:23You know what I mean?
- 1:11:24The doldrums of summer.
- 1:11:26Really awkward.
- 1:11:27Well, Tanya, let's talk about what do you want to talk about?
- 1:11:29I want to talk about the next MG.
- 1:11:31Ooh.
- 1:11:32You don't want to talk about three wheeled things?
- 1:11:34Oh, I skipped that.
- 1:11:35I'm sorry.
- 1:11:37Apparently what I really want to talk about is something I know nothing about.
- 1:11:41I added this because we don't get to talk about motorcycles very often and
- 1:11:44I'm not plugged into motorcycle news as much as I should be, but I just don't
- 1:11:48see things like Ducati is coming out.
- 1:11:50It always feels like, yeah, okay.
- 1:11:51They have a new.
- 1:11:52Monster 9, 000, 003 or whatever it is.
- 1:11:56And that's great.
- 1:11:56And then they make that for like 15 years, you know, and then
- 1:11:59they come out with the next one.
- 1:12:00This one came across my desk and I was like, am I missing something?
- 1:12:03Three wheeled vehicles.
- 1:12:05Is it a trike when the wheel is in the front or in the back?
- 1:12:08The front.
- 1:12:09Okay.
- 1:12:09So three wheeled where there's two in the front and one in the back.
- 1:12:12What's that called?
- 1:12:13The triangle.
- 1:12:13It's called crap.
- 1:12:15That's called, it's called poser.
- 1:12:17Okay.
- 1:12:17So we're on the same page.
- 1:12:19They're dumb.
- 1:12:20Well, let's be nice.
- 1:12:22They're not dumb.
- 1:12:23They're just for a certain demographic.
- 1:12:26People that want to be motorcycle riders and they want to be part of
- 1:12:29the community, but they don't want to learn how to ride a motorcycle.
- 1:12:31There you go.
- 1:12:32Or they're older.
- 1:12:33But then they get like a traditional tri carly.
- 1:12:36They don't get whatever this abomination is.
- 1:12:39This thing is so big.
- 1:12:41It has a 10 and a quarter inch Apple CarPlay compatible touchscreen.
- 1:12:45It's a three wheeler.
- 1:12:46I want to know when Ewan McGregor is going to take one of these around the world.
- 1:12:51He did with the BMW motorcycles.
- 1:12:53You know when that's going to happen?
- 1:12:54Never, because he's not a poser.
- 1:12:56And the reason I say this is rich people things, do you guys want
- 1:12:59to guess how much this costs?
- 1:13:01I'm guessing 45, 000.
- 1:13:02You're a little high.
- 1:13:0342, 500.
- 1:13:04For the listeners, it's a 2025 Can Am Anion.
- 1:13:08Three wheel triangular thing, it's, it's not a trike.
- 1:13:11'cause the wheel is in the back.
- 1:13:12So it's like a motorcycle.
- 1:13:13It's a mullet business in the front with two wheels and you steer
- 1:13:17and it's motorcycle in the back.
- 1:13:18Even the person riding it in the picture does not look
- 1:13:21like they're having anything.
- 1:13:21No, not at all.
- 1:13:22They don't look like they're enjoying this.
- 1:13:23Okay, so back to the price.
- 1:13:25Suggested MSRP $27,000 for this upwards of $33,000.
- 1:13:33I don't know.
- 1:13:34How much does a regular K& M cost?
- 1:13:36Probably mid twenties.
- 1:13:37You can't ride this on the street.
- 1:13:39You literally have to buy a trailer to take this somewhere
- 1:13:42to go ride it, not on the road.
- 1:13:44Why can't you ride it on the street?
- 1:13:45Well, isn't that the same thing with the K& M?
- 1:13:47That's street legal?
- 1:13:48K& Ms are street legal?
- 1:13:49I mean, the three wheel motorcycles like this are street legal?
- 1:13:53Yes.
- 1:13:53They're registered as motorcycles.
- 1:13:55It's for the mullet thing, right?
- 1:13:56I mean, it is what it is.
- 1:13:57It must fit in with this crowd of ATV ish.
- 1:14:00Look at all the crap that they bolted to it.
- 1:14:02You're going on your off road adventure and you can go camp.
- 1:14:05I don't know.
- 1:14:05You're going to go do dirt through the woods.
- 1:14:08I mean, the wheelbase of the new Fiat Panda is as big as this thing.
- 1:14:11You can go off road with that too.
- 1:14:13I mean, you could go off road with a Sisley.
- 1:14:15You can't get the Fiat Panda in the U.
- 1:14:16S.
- 1:14:16Exactly.
- 1:14:17Exactly.
- 1:14:18We can't get the Fiat Panda in the U.
- 1:14:19S.
- 1:14:19You're going to get this crap for twice as much.
- 1:14:22Speaking of other things that we can't get US, Tanya, you
- 1:14:25already hit the nail on the head.
- 1:14:26Let's go to the Brits.
- 1:14:27What are they going to offer us?
- 1:14:29I think you're over there.
- 1:14:30You can get an MG.
- 1:14:31And?
- 1:14:31They're still making cars?
- 1:14:32Scares.
- 1:14:33The MG Zs.
- 1:14:34The Zs.
- 1:14:35Why do they keep taking weird pictures of it?
- 1:14:37Like it has no windshield.
- 1:14:39Did you look at these pictures?
- 1:14:40They're Poorly framed pictures too.
- 1:14:42Like the, the one where it's like 50 percent of it is like the
- 1:14:45pavement that the car is sitting on.
- 1:14:48My kids would take better pictures than this.
- 1:14:50But the car is not officially unveiled yet.
- 1:14:53It's coming out next week.
- 1:14:54The pictures should be slightly better.
- 1:14:56It looks like every other Peugeot Hyundai, they all look the same.
- 1:15:01Again, I thought MG went out of business.
- 1:15:04So it should have owned by Chinese companies.
- 1:15:07Sometimes we talk about concepts in this section of EVs and concepts.
- 1:15:11Every once in a while, there's an interesting concept that comes up.
- 1:15:14And we talked about the students that created the solar powered bus, and they
- 1:15:18did that multiple times and tried to go on that trip across Europe and, you
- 1:15:21know, success or failure, whatever.
- 1:15:23I brought this up before because of the Fisker solar roof, which didn't work.
- 1:15:28And then Tesla has their solar roof, allegedly maybe laser
- 1:15:32beams in 10 years type of thing.
- 1:15:35These college kids created solar powered EV chargers.
- 1:15:40This could be, like, a winner.
- 1:15:41I think this is cool.
- 1:15:42Well, that's the whole meme about people who own electric vehicles, right?
- 1:15:46It's like, oh, cool, you're running electric and, like, you're
- 1:15:49still getting the power from fossil fuels or something, right?
- 1:15:52Like, big oil.
- 1:15:53And it's like, well, if you really want to be all environmental and purely
- 1:15:58sustainable, you need exactly this.
- 1:16:00You need to be charging your car from the sun.
- 1:16:03Good on these college kids for having Class Project build solar panels that
- 1:16:07are now being used on their campus.
- 1:16:08I find an article funny where it's like, and the students can use free
- 1:16:12parking passes to use the charger.
- 1:16:14I'm like, what college kid is rolling up with EVs?
- 1:16:17I mean, maybe that's the new thing these days.
- 1:16:19I don't know.
- 1:16:20Dad's old Model S is now the car to go to college with, right?
- 1:16:24Got it.
- 1:16:25Well, as we switch to Brad's favorite section, Lost and Found, where we don't
- 1:16:29scour the internet anymore looking for the newest old car on used dealership lots, we
- 1:16:34are gonna go back to the 90s to something that Brad and I remember quite well.
- 1:16:38Yes, yes, the Mystic Cobras.
- 1:16:41It wasn't just the Fox Body either, it was the SN95 after that.
- 1:16:45Yeah, all the way through 2004, they sold cars in that color.
- 1:16:50Cobras, only Cobras.
- 1:16:51The Mystic Cobras.
- 1:16:52Well, RTR, the Mustang tuner is bringing us back to the nineties.
- 1:16:57They are bringing Mr.
- 1:16:58Chrome paint back because Ford won't do it.
- 1:17:01I was just about to say, because the piggyback on that Ford has told people
- 1:17:04that the new GT are the new race Mustang.
- 1:17:09You can not get in this car.
- 1:17:10You can get any other color you want in the world, but you can't
- 1:17:12get this because it's too hard.
- 1:17:14Obviously RTR figured it out.
- 1:17:16It's not that hard.
- 1:17:17And you know what?
- 1:17:18I didn't like it back then, but I've really come to appreciate it.
- 1:17:21Yeah.
- 1:17:22Yeah.
- 1:17:22It's still a little bit color changing, hot wheels.
- 1:17:24Remember when you would buy those and you could pour water on them and the
- 1:17:26color would change and you'd watch it change back and the whole thing.
- 1:17:29That's sort of what it reminds me of, but it's cool.
- 1:17:31Like it goes through the whole rainbow basically.
- 1:17:33Right.
- 1:17:33Yeah.
- 1:17:34Tanya, what about you?
- 1:17:35Would you paint your car this color?
- 1:17:36Would you buy a Mr.
- 1:17:37Chrome Fiat Panda?
- 1:17:39Ooh, that would look pretty good, actually.
- 1:17:41I mean, I could repaint it, so Mystichrome wrap would be really cool.
- 1:17:44Think about that.
- 1:17:45When you get tired of it, you just peel it off.
- 1:17:46Yep.
- 1:17:47But then would that lay right?
- 1:17:48Like, how would that work?
- 1:17:49Like, it would change color within the cuts.
- 1:17:51That would look really bad.
- 1:17:52That would be horrible.
- 1:17:55Way to talk yourself into it and then out of it.
- 1:17:58Well, and then I realized BMW is going to do this with that
- 1:18:01Kindle paint that they have.
- 1:18:02So they can just do the Mr.
- 1:18:03Chrome right there from the dashboard.
- 1:18:05What if you're doing like a software update to make that do that?
- 1:18:07And like the update doesn't complete.
- 1:18:09So like half the car is one color.
- 1:18:12It is like, it's going to look literally like the loading.
- 1:18:15Good point here.
- 1:18:16So you have this computer controlled color changing car.
- 1:18:19And what if the car bricks itself?
- 1:18:21Does it go full blue?
- 1:18:22Microsoft with a brownie face.
- 1:18:25It's gone wrong.
- 1:18:30Your car's paint software has shut down unexpectedly.
- 1:18:33Please restart your car.
- 1:18:36Speaking of bad paint jobs, we saw a Cybertruck today, and my
- 1:18:40eldest points out, she's like, Dad, why does it look so dirty?
- 1:18:45And I just smiled.
- 1:18:46Dirty.
- 1:18:47So dirty.
- 1:18:47Because, honey, that's what happens to stainless steel
- 1:18:50when you do anything with it.
- 1:18:53I literally told her, because we bought one of these countertop
- 1:18:56ice makers, and it had, you know, that like light blue plastic.
- 1:19:02That's how Cybertruck should be delivered!
- 1:19:04I was thinking that, right?
- 1:19:05I told her, I said, you remember when I kind of got like just in
- 1:19:09my own head about your mom taking the plastic off of the ice maker?
- 1:19:12She's like, yeah, you looked at it lately and I got to keep cleaning it.
- 1:19:15Cause it just looks gross.
- 1:19:16gross, like all the time.
- 1:19:18She's like, yeah, I have noticed.
- 1:19:19And I said, this is why I didn't want you to take the
- 1:19:22plastic wrap off the ice maker.
- 1:19:23So to your point, Brad, the Cybertruck should have that plastic wrap on there.
- 1:19:27You're such a curmudgeon.
- 1:19:28Do you have plastic wrap on your couches now?
- 1:19:30Did you go that far back into the eighties?
- 1:19:33No, but Tanya keeps it on her TVs though.
- 1:19:35You've turned into your parents.
- 1:19:36No, you know what?
- 1:19:38I took my plastic off my TV.
- 1:19:40What happens?
- 1:19:41My TV dies.
- 1:19:42Those things are totally unrelated.
- 1:19:44Is it a Tesla TV?
- 1:19:45Cause that sounds like something that would do.
- 1:19:46Yeah.
- 1:19:46So keep your plastic shipping tape, like the challengers with that yellow stuff on
- 1:19:51the spoiler, keep it on your cyber truck.
- 1:19:53That's all I'm saying about that.
- 1:19:54Well, that's what you need to do.
- 1:19:55You need to go buy some carbon fiber wrap for your ice maker.
- 1:19:57You know, that's a really good idea.
- 1:20:00It drives me nuts.
- 1:20:00I know Al can do that for you.
- 1:20:02That's true.
- 1:20:03We got to come up with a cool name for my ice maker.
- 1:20:05It's got to have like a cyber truck name to it.
- 1:20:07Cyber ice.
- 1:20:08Cyber ice.
- 1:20:09That just sounds dumb.
- 1:20:10Ice ice baby.
- 1:20:11While switching gears and talking a little bit more about Lost and Found, if
- 1:20:15you're just tuning into the show now, or you're catching up into our catalog of
- 1:20:19break fix episodes, we recently did our first ever two part, what should I buy?
- 1:20:24That was Mark specific.
- 1:20:26And that's.
- 1:20:27Marcus and type of car specific, it's a series about the battle between Porsche
- 1:20:32and Corvette over the last 70 years.
- 1:20:34And I know you can get on your soapbox on either side and stats
- 1:20:38and figures and racing records and all those kinds of things.
- 1:20:41But we're really talking about in those 2 episodes.
- 1:20:44Is what we call the every person's sports car, which both the nine 11, the Corvette
- 1:20:49were always marketed to people as right.
- 1:20:52This is the every person's sports car.
- 1:20:54So we talk through the 70 plus years and the eight generations of both
- 1:20:58cars and try to determine what was the best bang for your buck and where
- 1:21:02to invest your collector dollars or, you know, those kinds of things,
- 1:21:05depending on if you're new to Corvette or if you're new to Porsche, or if
- 1:21:08you already have a bunch of Corvettes, you know, should you buy another one?
- 1:21:10Why, you know, all those kinds of things.
- 1:21:12It was a really, really cool.
- 1:21:13It was very, very well received.
- 1:21:15Those episodes are trending really well.
- 1:21:17If you haven't listened to them, go back and listen to them.
- 1:21:19Corvette first, Porsche second, that's part one and part two.
- 1:21:23They do feed into each other.
- 1:21:25Lots of great information in there.
- 1:21:26And I do want to give a huge thank you and a shout out to our panel of petrol heads.
- 1:21:31Different people, other than the core panel on both episodes, they did a
- 1:21:34stellar job with this idea, which by the way, has been baking since last car week
- 1:21:40when Don and I were kind of strategizing on some different, what should I buy?
- 1:21:43So we're happy to finally be able to release this two parter
- 1:21:47after a year in the making.
- 1:21:49And again, they're available everywhere podcast.
- 1:21:53But we got one more lost and found for you guys.
- 1:21:56And it sort of borderlines into the uncool wall.
- 1:21:59Do you think that this POS is worth 7, 500 bucks?
- 1:22:03If that is worth 7, 500 bucks, then my coupe is worth 10 grand.
- 1:22:0810!
- 1:22:09Your car is worth 30.
- 1:22:10Damn, there you go.
- 1:22:12I was being a little baller.
- 1:22:13Would you spend 7, 500 bucks on an 86 Chevy Cavalier Z24?
- 1:22:18No.
- 1:22:19What's important is this person has a very interesting car lineup.
- 1:22:23Did you see the cars in the background?
- 1:22:25That's a Mark one rabbit, GTI and N a Miata.
- 1:22:29What looks to be the sensible car, the Lincoln.
- 1:22:32I think that looks like either a Lincoln or a Cadillac and then a Fox body.
- 1:22:35This person is a very interesting tasting cars.
- 1:22:37That's the only thing worth mentioning for this whole thing.
- 1:22:40There's nothing to say about this humble product from GM.
- 1:22:44It's clean.
- 1:22:45I am shocked though, about the features that this thing has a moon roof, sunroof.
- 1:22:51In 1986.
- 1:22:52I'll get in that.
- 1:22:53Yeah, and it's a stick shift!
- 1:22:54And it's got a digital dash and all the things that are wrong about the 80s at GM.
- 1:22:58Even the interior looks like it's in good condition.
- 1:23:01Do you want to sit in that though?
- 1:23:02Come on.
- 1:23:03You know what that feels like.
- 1:23:04What interior is better?
- 1:23:06This or the interior at that Audi?
- 1:23:08Ooh, they're really similar actually.
- 1:23:10Those seats.
- 1:23:13This only has 71, 000 miles on it.
- 1:23:15That's why it's so clear.
- 1:23:1671, 000 too many that somebody spent in that thing.
- 1:23:19Yeah, it should have been 7, 100 miles.
- 1:23:22Then maybe it's worth 400.
- 1:23:25Those are some track gauges.
- 1:23:28Wow.
- 1:23:29Though for 1986, I mean, they had that digital dash like the 87 and a half GTs.
- 1:23:35So the importance behind this car, the reason I bring it up is because
- 1:23:37back in the day, I don't know if you remember Tanya, but when dad was
- 1:23:42going on his whole pro solo tour and campaigning the Honda, he had a choice.
- 1:23:48Ben offered him one of these in white or the CRX.
- 1:23:52Ben raced one before.
- 1:23:54Yes.
- 1:23:55He was already racing one.
- 1:23:56Yes.
- 1:23:57One of these Cavalier Z24s.
- 1:23:59And he's like, but I have the CRX over here.
- 1:24:02And it's like, gee, that was a hard choice.
- 1:24:04Can you imagine pro soloing a Cavalier?
- 1:24:07Like, come on.
- 1:24:08What a turd.
- 1:24:10No way.
- 1:24:10Well, like always, we would be remiss if we didn't talk about There's no
- 1:24:17You notice we didn't start with the Cybertruck this time?
- 1:24:20True, we started with Monoride.
- 1:24:22Is there even any Cybertruck news?
- 1:24:24Yeah, there's no Cybertruck news, but remember last time we talked, there
- 1:24:27was 11, 000 Cybertrucks being recalled?
- 1:24:30Well, if that wasn't enough Tesla said, GM, hold my bear.
- 1:24:34You remember when the Corvette C8, we would make fun that it had the hood
- 1:24:37latch problem and it might come up and smack the windshield and all that 1.
- 1:24:418 million Teslas are being recalled for a very similar issue with their
- 1:24:46hood release or front release.
- 1:24:48Not that they don't latch, they latch.
- 1:24:50So that's not the problem.
- 1:24:51The problem is.
- 1:24:53The sensor, if you didn't put it all the way down, doesn't
- 1:24:57alert you that the hood is a jar.
- 1:25:00The hood is a hood.
- 1:25:00It's never a jar.
- 1:25:03He's here all night, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:25:07So apparently it's a software update that's already available.
- 1:25:10Oh, come on.
- 1:25:11Which then I'm like, do other cars have?
- 1:25:14Hood sensors going back to cars, like let's just use our
- 1:25:18favorite generation of Volkswagen.
- 1:25:21The Mark fours had hood sensors, the cable, they never worked though.
- 1:25:25Yes, my 2003 has a hood sensor and I only know though if you try to
- 1:25:31lock the car, it will not lock.
- 1:25:33That's all it does.
- 1:25:34But there's nothing to alert me if I were to turn the car on and start driving.
- 1:25:38Correct.
- 1:25:39It's a useless sensor that you can fuse the two wires together and delete it.
- 1:25:43That's how good it is.
- 1:25:43I mean, this is kind of like a lame recall.
- 1:25:45I mean, yeah, they should recall it, I guess.
- 1:25:47I don't know.
- 1:25:48But whatever.
- 1:25:49The more interesting recall is the 9100 model Xs that have apparently
- 1:25:55trim pieces that, I guess, fall off.
- 1:25:59But isn't that just normal now for Teslas?
- 1:26:01Like, just, stuff falls off of them?
- 1:26:04Because it's not attached correctly to begin with?
- 1:26:05Apparently the trim pieces on the roof, the Model X's have the doors that come up.
- 1:26:09The gull wings, yeah.
- 1:26:10Is it the roof or is it the door trim pieces?
- 1:26:12I don't know.
- 1:26:14Maybe it's the center piece of the roof.
- 1:26:16I guess what astonishes me, and this is where fact Gets
- 1:26:19confirmed because of the recalls.
- 1:26:21So they have to disclose how many cars need to be recalled, which confirms
- 1:26:25the number of cars that they sold.
- 1:26:27When you kind of separate the lies from the more lies of all the cars that were
- 1:26:32sold, 9, 100 model Xs are being recalled.
- 1:26:36So that's how many model Xs are out there in the wild.
- 1:26:39That's not that many.
- 1:26:40That's not a lot of cars.
- 1:26:41For as many years as that car's been on the road.
- 1:26:43They can't fix this with a software update?
- 1:26:45No.
- 1:26:46With some Elmer's glue though.
- 1:26:48Apparently they sold 24, 000 of these during the pandemic.
- 1:26:542022 sales units was 24, 000.
- 1:26:57But we sell millions!
- 1:26:59Yeah, okay.
- 1:27:00But apparently only 9, 100 of them have a problem with the trim pieces falling off.
- 1:27:05The other, what, 12, 000 or whatever haven't driven long enough.
- 1:27:08Or they don't exist.
- 1:27:09They're just license keys.
- 1:27:11They're sitting on abandoned lots in Texas.
- 1:27:13If that wasn't bad enough, we switch over to what we like to
- 1:27:16call now, That's Unfortunate.
- 1:27:22And what happened over with some other Teslas, Tanya?
- 1:27:24This is your Tesla semi truck that caught on fire on a highway.
- 1:27:29We're just gonna leave it there.
- 1:27:30They say that EVs don't catch on fire at any greater rate than ice engines.
- 1:27:35The article is very quick to point that out.
- 1:27:37Right.
- 1:27:38My real question is whose semi was this?
- 1:27:41Frito Lay?
- 1:27:42Pepsi?
- 1:27:42That would have been an interesting fire.
- 1:27:44Or smelled interesting.
- 1:27:45Not many people have taken stock of these.
- 1:27:47So I love how the crime scene report or whatever you want
- 1:27:50to call it that they fill out.
- 1:27:52So, there was no crash, and it's not clear if the truck caught on fire first,
- 1:27:56or if the cargo caught on fire first.
- 1:27:59So, this might not have been a semi problem.
- 1:28:02What was your cargo?
- 1:28:04Fireworks?
- 1:28:04I don't know.
- 1:28:05According to this, the firefighter mentioned a lithium ion battery fire.
- 1:28:11The cargo could have caught on fire if the batteries are underneath the cargo.
- 1:28:14Right.
- 1:28:15But according to this, because of the path that it was taking and where it
- 1:28:19was going from Nevada to California, apparently this might have been
- 1:28:23a Tesla carrying Tesla batteries.
- 1:28:25Here's our Florida man.
- 1:28:26Oh, Jesus Christ.
- 1:28:32Argo could catch on fire.
- 1:28:33Correct.
- 1:28:34Because it's being jostled around.
- 1:28:35How did they put it out?
- 1:28:37If that really was a cargo of lithium batteries and they went off, you'd
- 1:28:43have to drop the MFR in the ocean.
- 1:28:45It's unreal.
- 1:28:46Given how long, allegedly, it takes them to put out just a regular old
- 1:28:50Tesla fire, and then they gotta like leave it in the pond because
- 1:28:5520 minutes later it could reignite.
- 1:28:56Oh my god.
- 1:28:57It couldn't have been then.
- 1:28:58It couldn't have been.
- 1:28:59This would have been like such hot news.
- 1:29:01Literally.
- 1:29:01Literally.
- 1:29:02You know what else is hot news?
- 1:29:04And also unfortunate, there was an article that came out
- 1:29:07that says RECARO is bankrupt.
- 1:29:10I was going to go there.
- 1:29:11Yes.
- 1:29:11RECARO's bankrupt.
- 1:29:12BBS is an insolvency and making a complete hat trick.
- 1:29:16Fanatec is also gone in that same direction where they're,
- 1:29:20they're losing their butt.
- 1:29:21They lost a big contract with the manufacturer, didn't they?
- 1:29:24Yeah.
- 1:29:24RECARO, I don't understand their business model because there's so many different
- 1:29:30Lines of seats that they produce, whether it's for aerospace, whether
- 1:29:35it's for busing for Marine, for cars, I think this is specifically for cars
- 1:29:40and it doesn't affect the other ones.
- 1:29:42And some people have said it's because of rules in the different industries.
- 1:29:45So they have different sub companies.
- 1:29:47So it's not all of our car that's going bankrupt.
- 1:29:49It's just the automotive division.
- 1:29:50And if you kind of think about it, it makes sense.
- 1:29:52Like I see the Recaro booths at petite Lamont and you go to some
- 1:29:56of the other races and stuff, and you're like, okay, cool.
- 1:29:58And you look at the price and you're like, my factory seats are pretty good now.
- 1:30:02It's not like the eighties where it's like, yeah, okay.
- 1:30:05You buy the GTI because it comes with the Recaro seats.
- 1:30:08Ooh.
- 1:30:08You know, a lot of those seats are still made by Recaro.
- 1:30:11And to your point, they, maybe they lost a contract or two, but who's
- 1:30:14buying replacement seats, that whole business line just doesn't make sense.
- 1:30:18And if you're building a race car, you're not going to buy a Recaro.
- 1:30:21You're going to buy a Sparco or an O and P or one of the other brands.
- 1:30:25Because they have the certifications and the halo.
- 1:30:28And I mean, I'm sure RECARO has those too, but I don't walk around the paddock and
- 1:30:32see RECARO racing seats and race cars.
- 1:30:34No, only if the car came with them.
- 1:30:36Now, BBS, they could have lowered the price of their wheels eons ago.
- 1:30:40And more people would have bought them.
- 1:30:41BBSs have always been notoriously expensive and extremely light,
- 1:30:46which made them very delicate.
- 1:30:47And if you bent a BBS and it's like, well, you might as well
- 1:30:50take a mortgage out on the house.
- 1:30:51That doesn't surprise me that they're insolvency because.
- 1:30:54That market is also saturated.
- 1:30:56There's so many low cost wheel manufacturers.
- 1:30:59BVS isn't going to be your first choice because there's folks
- 1:31:02now that can make basket weaves.
- 1:31:04You have all the knockoffs instead of Prada.
- 1:31:06You can get Prado for Yeah, exactly.
- 1:31:08So, you know, talking about Fanatec, Fanatec made their nut during COVID.
- 1:31:13And everybody that bought a sim rig has already bought a sim rig.
- 1:31:16And that's one of those finite industries that it's like, have you literally
- 1:31:20reinvented the wheel and the pedal box?
- 1:31:22I mean, the less They do something in the vein of Apple or Microsoft
- 1:31:26where they push a patch and somehow make your pedal box unusable again.
- 1:31:31Who are you going to upgrade for?
- 1:31:32And replacement bushings and springs, there's no market in that.
- 1:31:36And so many people got into that game and there's so many other manufacturers
- 1:31:39now too that it's like Fanatec's really expensive and I've gotten the opportunity
- 1:31:44through folks like David Middleton and MIE to sample other rigs that are out
- 1:31:48there and the Fanatec stuff, it's not that nice, especially for the price.
- 1:31:51There's far nicer stuff for a lot less money.
- 1:31:54I mean, if you just want to buy the name Fanatec, okay, fine.
- 1:31:57So I kind of feel like that's systemic of all three of these companies.
- 1:32:00If you want to buy Recaro for the name to say you have a Recaro, if you want
- 1:32:04to buy BBS because you want to say you have BBSs or you want to buy a Fanatec,
- 1:32:07it's sort of the same thing, but they're not so good that they're lifestyle
- 1:32:11brands that everybody is into now.
- 1:32:14Maybe it's the end of an era for some of these companies that we're
- 1:32:16used to seeing for so many years.
- 1:32:19Think about it.
- 1:32:19I'll draw you parallel.
- 1:32:20When was the last time you bought something from Momo?
- 1:32:22When I put that steering wheel in my ovary.
- 1:32:25That was almost 10 years ago now.
- 1:32:26Yeah, but you bought it once.
- 1:32:28Well, yeah, because thankfully I've only, I've never needed to replace it.
- 1:32:31Right?
- 1:32:32That's the problem with making a quality product that you don't need to replace.
- 1:32:35Oh, well, well, I guess we'll see what happens.
- 1:32:37I mean, bankruptcy doesn't mean that Recaro is shutting its doors.
- 1:32:41Insolvency doesn't mean that BBS is going away.
- 1:32:44It just means that they're restructuring.
- 1:32:46They're in financial trouble.
- 1:32:48Maybe somebody will swoop in and buy them.
- 1:32:50They'll get absorbed by another, whatever.
- 1:32:52I've always thought Recaro and Sparco and Momo and all them might one day
- 1:32:56eventually just merge because the products are all so very similar in some respects.
- 1:33:01Hey, who knows?
- 1:33:02But we don't know what the future holds for any of these folks, but I don't
- 1:33:05want to see the brands go away either.
- 1:33:07Now, since we're still talking about lowered expectations, I
- 1:33:10saw a good one the other day.
- 1:33:12I was driving down the highway, I was coming home.
- 1:33:13Traffic was down to a crawl.
- 1:33:16I mean, a drive that would have normally taken me 20 minutes
- 1:33:18took me an hour and 20 minutes.
- 1:33:20As I got closer to the crash scene, you guys will appreciate this.
- 1:33:23What did I see?
- 1:33:24A Nissan flipped over the Jerseyberry and immediately I said, Jump the Waltima!
- 1:33:31Even though it's a Nissan.
- 1:33:32Well, it was an Altima!
- 1:33:33It was an Altima?
- 1:33:34Well, it was an Altima!
- 1:33:35It jumped the Waltima!
- 1:33:37Oh, so it actually was an Altima.
- 1:33:38Yes!
- 1:33:39Nice.
- 1:33:39I found a new one.
- 1:33:40Jump the Waltima.
- 1:33:41On top of that, because I was sitting in traffic, I also began
- 1:33:44to realize that the Murano is just the SUV version of the Ultima.
- 1:33:48It's the Taltima.
- 1:33:49Yeah, it's the Taltima.
- 1:33:50That's what it was called.
- 1:33:51It was the Taltima.
- 1:33:52Cause everything they sell is just an Ultima.
- 1:33:54So, yeah.
- 1:33:55They have no other cars.
- 1:34:01But the Murano does suffer the same fate as the Ultima, though.
- 1:34:04I haven't seen one yet that doesn't have, like, a bastion back bumper
- 1:34:08or the front fenders flapping.
- 1:34:10I mean, it's just Those are the best.
- 1:34:12Oh, it's unreal.
- 1:34:14They're still going down the road, so there you go.
- 1:34:16They're not catching fire.
- 1:34:17Come a nuclear holocaust.
- 1:34:19There will be cockroaches and Ultimas left on the planet.
- 1:34:21Like, I truly believe that there you go.
- 1:34:24That's a testament to their build quality.
- 1:34:26They get put through some pretty rigorous testing in the event of zombie
- 1:34:31apocalypse, you know, what car to go find to make your way on Ultima.
- 1:34:36You be good to go.
- 1:34:37The ultimate.
- 1:34:40You know, Brad, every month you mentioned, and it's even in our
- 1:34:44outro on every episode of break fix.
- 1:34:46It's like, you know, if you have ideas for a show, contact us, dial this number on
- 1:34:50your rotary phone, hit us up on my space.
- 1:34:53We actually had somebody write to us this month.
- 1:34:55Yeah, we did.
- 1:34:57Was it Mark Hewitt?
- 1:34:58It was not Mark Hewitt, but you'll enjoy this.
- 1:35:00So I'm going to read this verbatim.
- 1:35:02I'm going to keep the innocent innocent.
- 1:35:04And it says, after looking at your series on Netflix, I was inspired
- 1:35:08to restore my 2012 Acura TSX.
- 1:35:11I was wondering if your team worked on imports.
- 1:35:14I currently live in New York city and it's very hard to find the
- 1:35:17right shot to get the job done.
- 1:35:19He doesn't realize who we are.
- 1:35:21I appreciate all of our listeners and our readers.
- 1:35:25Even if they don't listen, pay attention, or have the best comprehension.
- 1:35:29Cool.
- 1:35:29Did this actually happen?
- 1:35:30For real, I'll forward it to you, dude.
- 1:35:32It's a legit email.
- 1:35:33But also, though, which Netflix series are you talking about?
- 1:35:36BreakFix.
- 1:35:37Eric didn't tell you?
- 1:35:38We're on Netflix now.
- 1:35:39Well, we are on IMDb up to episode 200.
- 1:35:42I I went through the painstaking process.
- 1:35:44What?!
- 1:35:44I've got an IMDb?
- 1:35:46Yeah.
- 1:35:46No sh Yeah, but that was 175 episodes ago.
- 1:35:50So it's been a minute.
- 1:35:51Well, you got to get out there and update that.
- 1:35:53Do you know how long it takes to update IMDB?
- 1:35:55Dude, I don't care.
- 1:35:56Do it.
- 1:35:56It's a chore.
- 1:35:57It is a chore.
- 1:35:59You know, it's a chore creating a Wikipedia page.
- 1:36:01That's a chore.
- 1:36:02Well, I guess it's time we go south and talk about alligators and bears.
- 1:36:12There ain't nothing to talk about.
- 1:36:13What?
- 1:36:13I looked for Florida men, and there are none.
- 1:36:16There are no Florida men?
- 1:36:17I couldn't find anything.
- 1:36:19They are, I don't know where they all went.
- 1:36:20They went to Car Week.
- 1:36:22Yeah, or maybe it's They hibernate in August.
- 1:36:26It's like Europe.
- 1:36:27They go on vacation during August.
- 1:36:28They take August off.
- 1:36:29Have we finalized our team yet for the Florida man games?
- 1:36:32Tonya's captain.
- 1:36:36Get a fancy team name.
- 1:36:37All right.
- 1:36:37Well, we might not have any Florida man this month.
- 1:36:40That is on.
- 1:36:40I tried.
- 1:36:41I tried.
- 1:36:41I looked for other men in other States and the dry August.
- 1:36:45You look for men in other States here.
- 1:36:48Which way are you swiping?
- 1:36:50If there are any men listening to this episode, Tanya is looking for you.
- 1:36:54I looked in Texas.
- 1:36:55I looked in Michigan.
- 1:36:56I looked at our home state.
- 1:36:58There's a gentleman that wants his accurate TSX restored.
- 1:37:01I mean, maybe that's your guy.
- 1:37:02I didn't look in New York.
- 1:37:03I didn't look there.
- 1:37:04Well, I found three of them.
- 1:37:06In Europe.
- 1:37:07Yeah.
- 1:37:07Eric, you're looking for men too?
- 1:37:09No, no, no.
- 1:37:09Not that kind.
- 1:37:10But this is it folks.
- 1:37:11It's sort of like the Rolling Stones.
- 1:37:14Their final, final, final tour.
- 1:37:16Well, guess what?
- 1:37:16Top Gear slash the Grand Tour, depending on when you subscribe to
- 1:37:20their nonsense, Hammond Clarkson and May are airing their final episode on
- 1:37:26September the 13th on Amazon Prime.
- 1:37:28They're calling it one for the road.
- 1:37:30There's a preview of it on Instagram.
- 1:37:32All I can say is I don't know what the hell it's about, but it includes a
- 1:37:35Ford Capri, a Lancia Beta Scorpion, and what seems to be a Triumph Stag, and
- 1:37:40some sand, and I'm here for all of it.
- 1:37:42I didn't even watch the last, like, two or three specials that they came out with.
- 1:37:46The Scandi flick is the one to watch.
- 1:37:49Spoilers.
- 1:37:50The last one I watched was the one with the Evo where May went into the wall.
- 1:37:54Yes.
- 1:37:54That's the Scandi flick.
- 1:37:55I never finished it though.
- 1:37:56I only got.
- 1:37:57Dude, it gets so much better from that point.
- 1:37:59And that point makes you literally jump out of your seat, but it gets better
- 1:38:03from there, like better in a bad way too.
- 1:38:06One more for the road for Clarkson Hammond and May, September the 13th.
- 1:38:10I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:38:11They have been together for preview says 22 years, probably longer than that.
- 1:38:16They're all going in their own directions.
- 1:38:17You know, May's doing is our man and Japan and our man here and all that.
- 1:38:21And I think Hammond's back on the radio and.
- 1:38:24Clarkson's got Clarkson's Farm, but it's good to have one last
- 1:38:27hoorah, because that last grand tour didn't really give anybody closure.
- 1:38:32So, I'm thinking hopefully this one will wrap it up, and I'm excited to
- 1:38:35see these three cars that they picked.
- 1:38:37I have a feeling Hammond's probably driving the Scorpion, because nobody
- 1:38:41fits in those things, they're so small.
- 1:38:43So it would make sense that he chose that.
- 1:38:45And I think those are super cool.
- 1:38:47Meanwhile, it's time we go quickly behind the pit wall and So are the
- 1:38:52Drama Llamas all rested up and back?
- 1:38:54Are we ready to go racing again?
- 1:38:56It's weekend.
- 1:38:57Where are they this time?
- 1:38:58Dutch Grand Prix.
- 1:38:59Zandvoort!
- 1:39:00We're going to Zandvoort!
- 1:39:02So that means Verstappen has to win or he will be excommunicated
- 1:39:07from his own country?
- 1:39:09I read a whole bunch of different stuff about has Red Bull hit the
- 1:39:14ceiling, you know, again, going back to the whole Adrian Newey thing
- 1:39:17that the car can't get any better.
- 1:39:19Everybody else is finally exceeding all this BS and stuff.
- 1:39:22And then there was something about Perez.
- 1:39:25His engineer is going on paternity leave.
- 1:39:29So there's a shakeup there and a bunch of other stuff that to me just
- 1:39:33seemed like drama llama as usual.
- 1:39:36I'm so out of touch when it comes to F1 this year, I've watched maybe 20
- 1:39:40minutes of a race the entire season.
- 1:39:43Was it Monte Carlo?
- 1:39:44Because that's all you needed.
- 1:39:45No, I think it was 20 minutes cumulatively between several different race beacons.
- 1:39:51There's nothing to draw me in.
- 1:39:53You know what I mean?
- 1:39:54It's just, I, ugh.
- 1:39:55I don't have this resource called time.
- 1:39:58I don't have much of that anymore.
- 1:39:59Yeah, I hear ya.
- 1:40:00Uh, I mean, it's been more interesting.
- 1:40:03because he hasn't been winning every race there's been a different winner
- 1:40:06i think the last six races at least i did see that hamilton won didn't he win
- 1:40:10at spa yeah mclaren's been stepping up their game like lando has been more at
- 1:40:15the front recently and so you're seeing a little bit more orange on the podium
- 1:40:19stuff like that what will be interesting in the next A couple weeks or months or
- 1:40:23whatever, however long it takes them.
- 1:40:25There's still people that haven't secured their seats for the next year.
- 1:40:29So there's still some seat jostling that's going to happen.
- 1:40:32And did I see signs as going to Williams?
- 1:40:35Yeah.
- 1:40:35Yeah.
- 1:40:36There were some funny memes about that, actually.
- 1:40:38What in the world is going on?
- 1:40:40You don't understand that he had to have had offers from like everybody.
- 1:40:45And you choose.
- 1:40:46Well, next he'll go to Haas.
- 1:40:47You know how they show the progression of the caveman over time, like human beings?
- 1:40:52Science is going the other way in Formula 1.
- 1:40:54No, but I feel like Williams is like the bottom of the bottom.
- 1:40:57Haas has got to be worse, come on.
- 1:41:00No, I don't think so.
- 1:41:01Haas has maybe been doing better this year.
- 1:41:03So no, I don't think TAS is the bottom this year.
- 1:41:06So maybe, well, I, you know, who I think is the bottom this year?
- 1:41:09Sauber.
- 1:41:10So that's because they've checked out.
- 1:41:12They know Audi's taken over.
- 1:41:13What do they care?
- 1:41:14Right?
- 1:41:14So why blow the budget?
- 1:41:15Pick Sauber, jumpstart, stake, A1, Visa, cash cow.
- 1:41:19No, that's the other people.
- 1:41:21Isn't that the one with Botas?
- 1:41:22Botas and the Chinese driver.
- 1:41:24Switching to another discipline of racing.
- 1:41:27I won't bore you guys to tears about rally.
- 1:41:29Rally is exciting.
- 1:41:31They got new cars.
- 1:41:32The cars are cool, especially the Toyotas.
- 1:41:34They're black.
- 1:41:35They look super awesome.
- 1:41:36Lots of really exciting stuff going on there.
- 1:41:39Seb was just knighted.
- 1:41:40Well, the French equivalent of being knighted that was back around
- 1:41:44the time of the Portuguese rally.
- 1:41:46So that was pretty cool, but he's still out there.
- 1:41:47I mean, 11 time champion or whatever he is and all this kind of stuff.
- 1:41:51So he's still out there battling out.
- 1:41:52With the young guys, there's lots of mix ups in WRC.
- 1:41:55I will say that Takamoto is doing better.
- 1:41:57Although I still wait for a crash every time.
- 1:42:00So, you know, it's just whatever, but I will say I kind of took
- 1:42:03on a new dimension with rally.
- 1:42:06And what I've been doing is following the rally schedule.
- 1:42:08I'm getting a little bit caught up because I started late and what I'm trying to
- 1:42:11do is run the rally when the rally is happening, and I'm going to do it on my
- 1:42:15SIM and then I'm streaming it on Twitch, I'm doing it kind of in a compressed way
- 1:42:19because the way the software does it.
- 1:42:21So I chose the Hyundai that's Esa Pekka Lappi's car, and I've been
- 1:42:25doing that, I've been kind of following along with the series.
- 1:42:27So I'm caught up to Sardegna and I need to kind of blast through
- 1:42:30the rest of them to get caught up to the schedule where it is now.
- 1:42:33But as a bonus, which is why it's taking me longer, is after I complete each of
- 1:42:37the rallies, I actually go back and do the full So that's all the stages connected.
- 1:42:43So some of these rallies, it's like 13 stages, 15 stages, whatever.
- 1:42:46So there's a way to do them all in one shot.
- 1:42:48It's usually like a 20 mile run.
- 1:42:50It takes literally like a half an hour of nonstop action.
- 1:42:53And I do it in a group B car.
- 1:42:54So I actually chose the Peugeot 205 T16 kind of sampled all the cars actually
- 1:42:59prefer the group a cars in the SIM.
- 1:43:01I think they're a lot more fun, but the cool part is.
- 1:43:04It's forcing me to do things differently, adapt, get better,
- 1:43:07whatever you want to call it, but I'm doing it full manual with the
- 1:43:10clutch, no assist, no traction control, stability, any of that kind of stuff.
- 1:43:14I do the WRC cars that way too, but they're a lot easier to drive.
- 1:43:17So all that stuff up on Twitch.
- 1:43:19So twitch.
- 1:43:20tv grand touring motorsports.
- 1:43:21I'm going to continue to do that kind of following along with the WRC schedule.
- 1:43:25Like I said, it just adds a whole nother dimension to the racing and it makes it
- 1:43:29more fun because then I get to watch it.
- 1:43:31What the drivers are doing and either try to replicate what they're
- 1:43:34doing or, Oh, I remember that turn.
- 1:43:36I know how difficult that is, you know, those kinds of things.
- 1:43:39So again, I think it's pretty cool.
- 1:43:40And if you enjoy it, it's available for you up on Twitch.
- 1:43:44In WEC IMSA SRO news, the Glenn just happened for IMSA.
- 1:43:49One of our favorite events to go to.
- 1:43:51That's where Brad's bachelor party was many, many years ago at this point.
- 1:43:54And SRO was just there for their World Challenge event.
- 1:43:57And NASCAR will be back at the Glen in September.
- 1:44:00Don't forget that Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta is coming up in October.
- 1:44:04So that's the end of the IMSA season.
- 1:44:06So looking forward to that.
- 1:44:07And in other WEC ACO type of news.
- 1:44:11We just completed our ninth Evening with a Legend, and that was with Andy Pilgrim.
- 1:44:17That's available right now on our Patreon or if you become a member of the
- 1:44:20ACO USA in our private Facebook group.
- 1:44:22And then it'll be recast later this fall, winter time.
- 1:44:26So you can listen to it as part of the Motoring Podcast Network as part
- 1:44:28of the Evening with a Legend series.
- 1:44:30And then we got a couple more slated.
- 1:44:32So we're trying to do one a month of these evening with a legend.
- 1:44:35So there's other ones coming and they're really, really cool.
- 1:44:37Some really interesting stories specifically about Lamar and Americans
- 1:44:41going to Lamar and things like that.
- 1:44:43And then if you're an ally of women in motor sports, North America, they are
- 1:44:47currently running a sweepstakes for two tickets to next year's Rolex 24
- 1:44:53with, I would call it VIP plus status because of all the extras and the
- 1:44:57goodies that come with the package.
- 1:44:59They're giving you $2,500 towards expenses to like help you get there
- 1:45:04and all those kinds of things.
- 1:45:05It's a sweepstake, so you're like buying chances to win and the money benefits wna.
- 1:45:10So Women in Motorsports, north America, you can check it out on
- 1:45:13their website For all the details, how to enter, how it all works.
- 1:45:16Women in motorsports na.com for more details on that.
- 1:45:20Really, really cool sweepstakes package for the 2025, Rolex 24,
- 1:45:24so maybe we'll see you there.
- 1:45:26And then some virtual stuff, Lamont ultimate got an update months past kind
- 1:45:32of leading up to the 24 hours of Lamont.
- 1:45:34We were doing a bunch of shakedowns and time trials and all this kind
- 1:45:37of stuff in preparation for the launch event that we did in Detroit
- 1:45:41for Lamont ultimate with the ACO.
- 1:45:43The latest update includes things like the Lamborghini Hybrid
- 1:45:46Hypercar, bunch of other changes.
- 1:45:48They're actually adding more of the courses that are in the WEC schedule.
- 1:45:52So look forward to things like Coda coming to the sim.
- 1:45:54More updates are coming more frequently now as the game's
- 1:45:57officially launched, gaining more traction, those kinds of things.
- 1:46:00I still enjoy playing it.
- 1:46:01I've just been more focused on my WRC stuff for now, but I'm gonna jump
- 1:46:04back into LAMA here later in the year.
- 1:46:06And then allegedly Aceto Corsa two is coming.
- 1:46:10Then again, they've been saying that for like five years.
- 1:46:12So I don't put a lot of weight into that right now, but as soon as that
- 1:46:15does come out, I'm pretty excited to add that to my library of sim racing.
- 1:46:20And if you're interested in talking about sim racing with other sim racers
- 1:46:23and people in the industry, don't forget to check out our discord DMS, hit us up
- 1:46:27on Facebook, email us, whatever, we'll send you the link it's on our website

- 1:46:35I do want to remind everybody that our Motorsports News is brought to us
- 1:46:38in partnership with the International Motor Racing Research Center.

- 1:46:42September 12th is the Cameron R.
- 1:46:44Argettsinger Award for Outstanding Contributions in Motorsport.
- 1:46:47This year's honoree is Zach Brown.
- 1:46:49That's the CEO of McLaren Formula One.
- 1:46:51You can still buy tickets to attend the event.
- 1:46:54So jump over to racingarchives.
- 1:46:55org and click on store to purchase your seat at the table.
- 1:46:59And by the way, the IMRRC added an auction to this event.
- 1:47:03There are new items being added every week leading up to the awards dinner.
- 1:47:07So check the website for those details as well.
- 1:47:09On September the 25th, we have another Evening with a Legend that'll be episode
- 1:47:13number 10, sponsored by the IMRRC.
- 1:47:15It'll be all about the Camaradi Corvette, which its importance and significance in
- 1:47:20the history of Le Mans is that it placed 10th overall with a ragtag team from the
- 1:47:25United States, and it was one of only four Four Corvettes to finish Lamar in 1960.
- 1:47:30So really, really interesting backstory there.
- 1:47:33Look forward to an episode on break fix about the history of
- 1:47:35the Camarotti Corvette as well, but check out motoring podcast.
- 1:47:39net and then click on shows and then evening with a legend.

- 1:47:50Schroedel, a couple other guys that are associated with that car.
- 1:47:54Talking about the history of it.
- 1:47:55It's important, you know, some Q and A with the audience.
- 1:47:59So really, really interesting session there and be sure to catch all
- 1:48:02the behind the scenes for Evening with the Legend on our Patreon.
- 1:48:06If you haven't heard already, the Michael R.

- 1:50:55We're so close.
- 1:50:56So closer.
- 1:50:57So like 45 minutes.
- 1:50:58No, there's not.
- 1:50:59I didn't catch the joke.
- 1:51:03What happened?
- 1:51:04You know how it always takes forever to put these episodes together.
- 1:51:07Buckle up.
- 1:51:08Me, me, me, me, me, me.
- 1:51:10Turn them into L E again.
- 1:51:12Have you all seen the mean for Shua peepies?
- 1:51:15So this kid, he's a, like a Gen Z or something.
- 1:51:18He's trying to present the news and he's talking about a news article
- 1:51:22and it's about like a recall from Schweppes, like no sugar, like diet.
- 1:51:27And because he's never said Schweppes before, he calls it
- 1:51:31the Shua pee pees ginger ale.
- 1:51:37That has become my new safe word.
- 1:51:40Shoe a pee pees.
- 1:51:41It was Hufflepuff, but now it's shoe a pee pees.
- 1:51:43Poor guy.
- 1:51:44I feel for the people, but maybe they really enjoy the
- 1:51:48behind the scenes, the outtakes.
- 1:51:49Like, I am amazed by the folks that watch this on Patreon.
- 1:51:53I commend you.
- 1:51:54I salute you.
- 1:51:56Can you see who those people are?
- 1:51:57I cannot.
- 1:51:59I should care more about my appearance.
- 1:52:00I think I should care more about how my office looks behind me.
- 1:52:03If it wasn't for the drive thru, I wouldn't be a podcaster at all.
- 1:52:06So, uh, do you have all that stuff?
- 1:52:08Because first of all, a lot of it is from your past guests.
- 1:52:12You know, otherwise my office would be super boring and ugly.
- 1:52:14I mean, come on now.
- 1:52:15We'll have to cut that part out.
- 1:52:16And we're out Otro bus
- 1:52:28in back of us all.
- 1:52:31There's some idiot and a on behind me.
- 1:52:36I lean out the window and scream, Hey, what ya trying to do blind me?
