- 2:02Speaker 3: Let's go places, all right, it's Paul, it's Fred, it's Deuce.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Evan'll be here in a little bit.
- 2:09Speaker 3: And we are above the practice fields at Gillette Stadium waiting.
- 2:14Speaker 5: For practice to start. They're gonna be a little delayed
- 2:16Speaker 5: this morning.
- 2:17Speaker 3: We just were told by Stacy James, head of pr
- 2:20Speaker 3: for the team. I guess they're going to start around
- 2:22Speaker 3: ten thirty, so we'll be here, you know, keeping you
- 2:27Speaker 3: to get your questions in keeping your company until that time.
- 2:32Speaker 3: But today is the first day of full pads. They
- 2:36Speaker 3: had an off day yesterday sort of a breather. There's
- 2:40Speaker 3: certain rules I think in the NFL where you can't
- 2:43Speaker 3: have more than five consecutive practices I think, and then
- 2:46Speaker 3: you have to have a day off. So Wednesday was
- 2:49Speaker 3: a day off. Now they're back at it for a
- 2:51Speaker 3: lot of players. They've told us first full day of
- 2:55Speaker 3: pads is really kind of when training camp practice starts.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Sure, I mean it felt a little bit of a
- 3:01Speaker 2: ramp up, I would say two days ago on Tuesday,
- 3:03Speaker 2: where you felt like they were set in the stage
- 3:06Speaker 2: for what's going to happen today. Some of the one
- 3:07Speaker 2: on one stuff, running those drills with pads, they'll be contact.
- 3:10Speaker 2: But you know, I just I like what Mike Brabel
- 3:12Speaker 2: had to say about learning to play in the elements.
- 3:14Speaker 2: You go back to that AFC Championship game, didn't make
- 3:18Speaker 2: the critical mistake, held on and you know we're able
- 3:20Speaker 2: to win that game. So be a good test, you know,
- 3:22Speaker 2: good mental toughness some of these rookies. That's what I'm
- 3:25Speaker 2: interested in. How do they look pads get on Caleb
- 3:28Speaker 2: Lomu handling the physicality the NFL, Eli Raritan going in
- 3:31Speaker 2: some blocking drills. I mean not usually what moves the needle.
- 3:34Speaker 2: But I think first day of pads here, seeing how
- 3:36Speaker 2: the rookies hold up with the physicality is a key point.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I would agree, And you get to see how
- 3:41Speaker 6: they handle some of those elements. I would expect to
- 3:44Speaker 6: see some red zone stuff, some running game stuff that
- 3:46Speaker 6: you haven't really been able to work on as extensively
- 3:49Speaker 6: when you're not in pads. So yeah, those kinds of tests,
- 3:52Speaker 6: I think from a physical you know, you're already.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Getting tested mentally.
- 3:56Speaker 6: And I thought when Christian Gonzales spoke on Tuesday, my
- 4:00Speaker 6: and he started talking about it was kind of like
- 4:02Speaker 6: the first day of real camp. He's talking about the
- 4:04Speaker 6: mental aspect because it was really humid that day, you know,
- 4:08Speaker 6: first kind of training camp like weather.
- 4:10Speaker 2: So you get those mental obstacles.
- 4:13Speaker 6: Now you get the physical ones too, so it's always
- 4:15Speaker 6: interesting to see how they handle both.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll see how the center quarterback exchange works out today, because,
- 4:23Speaker 3: as you might have gathered from the background, it's a
- 4:26Speaker 3: little bit of a dreary day here in Foxboro. We've
- 4:29Speaker 3: had rain all day yesterday, rain all day this morning.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Right now, it's just a light mist and from.
- 4:35Speaker 3: What we're told by the weather reports, it's going to
- 4:38Speaker 3: remain that way throughout practice, so they'll be out outside
- 4:43Speaker 3: for the duration of practice. We're not looking at any
- 4:45Speaker 3: torrential downpours or lightning or anything like that that could
- 4:49Speaker 3: bring them inside.
- 4:50Speaker 5: So they'll be out here. But it's gonna be wet,
- 4:52Speaker 5: the field's wet, the ball's.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Gonna be wet, and you know you need to practice
- 4:57Speaker 3: in this kind of weather too.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, super fans are out here, as you can see.
- 5:00Speaker 2: They got the uh cut the tarps on and trying
- 5:02Speaker 2: to stay dry but not too bad, not too cold.
- 5:05Speaker 2: But this is always, you know, a great take. And
- 5:07Speaker 2: I know you guys have talked in the past about
- 5:09Speaker 2: this first day when it was a lot of times
- 5:10Speaker 2: goal line and uh, you know Ted Johnson going against
- 5:14Speaker 2: what Heath Evans or the you know, the fullback. Maybe
- 5:16Speaker 2: I'm missing up my time frames there playing Gash Sam Gash. Yeah,
- 5:18Speaker 2: I got a little ahead of myself there, but those
- 5:21Speaker 2: are what I expect to see today. We know how
- 5:24Speaker 2: much Mike Brabile preaches physicality, and I think this is
- 5:27Speaker 2: part of, you know, establishing that team identity that he
- 5:30Speaker 2: is you know, constantly trying to install with this team,
- 5:33Speaker 2: And this is about mental toughness. You mentioned the snap spread,
- 5:36Speaker 2: you know, smooth operation, wet ball. I mean remember the
- 5:40Speaker 2: old days of Bill going around spraying the football with water. Well,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you don't have to spray it today. You're gonna have
- 5:44Speaker 2: your own challenges. So I think it'll be a real
- 5:46Speaker 2: good test for these guys, uh, you know, mentally as
- 5:48Speaker 2: well as physically.
- 5:49Speaker 3: So even though it is the first day of pats,
- 5:51Speaker 3: you think they'll be full speed?
- 5:53Speaker 5: Probably not right. You don't think they'll be bringing guys
- 5:55Speaker 5: to the ground today, right.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Oh no, No, I don't think so.
- 5:58Speaker 6: I wouldn't expect to see that in terms of like
- 6:00Speaker 6: the you know, it's the first day of pads, so
- 6:03Speaker 6: I don't. I think it's a little shorter, you know,
- 6:06Speaker 6: and probably a little bit lighter in terms of the workload.
- 6:08Speaker 6: You might see that ramp up a little bit tomorrow
- 6:11Speaker 6: and and moving forward.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I think they're going to be in pads.
- 6:15Speaker 6: If last year is an indication, I kind of remember
- 6:17Speaker 6: back once they got in pads, they were in pads for.
- 6:20Speaker 2: A couple of at least three.
- 6:22Speaker 6: Consecutive days, for consecutive days, So I would expect to
- 6:25Speaker 6: see a similar thing Obviously they're always looking to improve
- 6:29Speaker 6: on how they prepare, but I can't really argue much
- 6:32Speaker 6: with how they prepared for the season last year, Freddie,
- 6:34Speaker 6: you know, going fourteen and three.
- 6:36Speaker 2: No, yeah, although they did lose the opening, a couple
- 6:39Speaker 2: of losses came early on and all.
- 6:42Speaker 3: The turnovers against the Steelers, so little administrative.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Work.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Gay Baccus is as we know, he's with the team,
- 6:53Speaker 3: but we will not see him out there today.
- 6:55Speaker 5: No, but Rabel in his press conference today said.
- 6:59Speaker 3: He's advancing through the process and he's now with the Trainers, right.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, positive sign and closer than Harold Landry was what
- 7:06Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel said. And I think, you know, with everything
- 7:08Speaker 2: that's gone on this spring, I'm excited just to see
- 7:11Speaker 2: gay Bachus get on the field because seeing what you
- 7:13Speaker 2: saw from him in college, I think he's the kind
- 7:15Speaker 2: of guy that's probably like kind of rare and to
- 7:17Speaker 2: go and ready to get out there and do what
- 7:19Speaker 2: he does. So it'll be exciting to see him if
- 7:21Speaker 2: if he does get out there soon, especially with Pads.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I think we talked our first show on Saturday, it'll
- 7:26Speaker 2: be great to get him out here by today. Not
- 7:28Speaker 2: quite gonna happen, but doesn't sound like he's too far off,
- 7:30Speaker 2: So I think that's an encouraging sign. We'll see what
- 7:32Speaker 2: he looks like when he gets out here.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and yesterday we saw Charles Woods go off. Vrabel
- 7:39Speaker 3: kind of downplayed that one said, he doesn't think it's
- 7:41Speaker 3: anything too serious.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Might have been cramps something like that.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it could have been heat related.
- 7:47Speaker 6: It's funny from watching the two injuries, Calton Davis being
- 7:50Speaker 6: the other one, the two guys that left practice earlier,
- 7:52Speaker 6: the two corners, I would have reversed it.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I would have thought, you know, we'll see Davis because
- 7:57Speaker 2: that's what he likes. We always see callin Davis. He's
- 7:59Speaker 2: just always on.
- 8:00Speaker 6: He's always limping and always dealing with something with his shoulder,
- 8:03Speaker 6: but he just seems to always be there. And I
- 8:06Speaker 6: didn't think Woods was as as significant. I mean, I
- 8:11Speaker 6: thought Woods might be more significant, I should say. And
- 8:13Speaker 6: now obviously Rabel said today doesn't really seem like there's
- 8:16Speaker 6: a whole lot to worry about.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Will so I expect to see Woods. I don't expect.
- 8:20Speaker 6: He said, we won't see Carlton Davis.
- 8:27Speaker 2: So you know what you're going to get from him
- 8:28Speaker 2: as a veteran, so this has been an interesting spot,
- 8:31Speaker 2: the depth at cornerback. We knew Charles Woods was a
- 8:34Speaker 2: guy that stepped in last year on the outside when
- 8:36Speaker 2: he had to to fill in a little bit. So
- 8:38Speaker 2: I'm never opposed to if you're going to miss a veteran,
- 8:41Speaker 2: hopefully not for long, of course, but if he's gonna
- 8:42Speaker 2: miss a few practices, it's going to give a chance
- 8:45Speaker 2: for a guy like Charles Woods to really get some
- 8:47Speaker 2: good quality reps with the ones, especially here with pads on,
- 8:50Speaker 2: So opportunity for him, opportunity for the team to continue
- 8:54Speaker 2: to develop that depth that you're always going to need,
- 8:56Speaker 2: especially at the cornerback position.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Okay, you guys mentioned earlier you think they'll be in
- 9:00Speaker 3: red zone today.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think that's usually. I think red zone
- 9:03Speaker 2: generally is early.
- 9:04Speaker 6: Now I might be leading a little bit more on
- 9:07Speaker 6: my muscle memory of Bill Belichick, who always had early
- 9:11Speaker 6: padded practices were in the you know, filled with the
- 9:13Speaker 6: red zone stuff. But I would just I mean, I
- 9:15Speaker 6: think just think it makes a lot of sense red
- 9:17Speaker 6: zone physicality in the red zone, running game kind of stuff,
- 9:21Speaker 6: But in terms of tackling to the ground, I wouldn't
- 9:23Speaker 6: expect to see much of any of that.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I think it's a really important part for Mike variable
- 9:27Speaker 2: in this team last year, I think both the red
- 9:29Speaker 2: zone offense and the red zone defense, especially until the
- 9:31Speaker 2: playoffs struggled. I think it's a point of emphasis this
- 9:34Speaker 2: year that that's a tangible spot where they can be better,
- 9:38Speaker 2: where it can make a huge difference in games. So
- 9:40Speaker 2: I think it's I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, Paul,
- 9:42Speaker 2: we you know, we joke on training camp there usually
- 9:44Speaker 2: with Bill they were in the red zone like that
- 9:46Speaker 2: was it. I mean it was like, man, it is
- 9:47Speaker 2: red zone after red zone after red zone. But I
- 9:50Speaker 2: think it's a good opportunity not only set the tone
- 9:52Speaker 2: of physicality with the pads, but to stress the importance
- 9:56Speaker 2: of getting you know, those stops that they made in
- 9:58Speaker 2: the playoffs. I mean, you think about Marcus Jones making
- 10:01Speaker 2: that tackle on Justin Herbert, the you know, the fourth
- 10:03Speaker 2: down stop against the against the Broncos. Those are huge
- 10:06Speaker 2: plays in those games that you know, really contributed to
- 10:08Speaker 2: them going to the super Bowl.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:11Speaker 3: So listening to some of Paul's shows by h well,
- 10:14Speaker 3: you know, I have a long commute as you know,
- 10:16Speaker 3: so I have a lot.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Of time and the wait I was on one this morning.
- 10:20Speaker 3: There's I think there's a good amount of consternation on
- 10:24Speaker 3: the Drake may A J. Brown connection that it hasn't
- 10:28Speaker 3: really clicked yet. What what do you guys think.
- 10:32Speaker 6: Paul, I don't really have a lot of consternation, but
- 10:36Speaker 6: it hasn't really clicked yet. Yeah, you know, but yeah
- 10:39Speaker 6: I'm not. This is something I think Fred, you you
- 10:42Speaker 6: teed us up just before the start of camp. You
- 10:45Speaker 6: know some of the things that you'd be looking to see,
- 10:47Speaker 6: and this was kind of one of the areas I
- 10:49Speaker 6: was looking at. The overreaction to whatever happens with AJ
- 10:52Speaker 6: Brown right go to or bad. I thought there was
- 10:55Speaker 6: overreaction on the positive side in the spring, and now
- 10:59Speaker 6: I think it might be a little litle bit of
- 11:00Speaker 6: overreaction the other way. It hasn't been great. Both Brown
- 11:06Speaker 6: and Dobbs to me, look like they're still learning what
- 11:09Speaker 6: they're doing. And I think it's hard to play that
- 11:12Speaker 6: way even if you're as talented as those two guys are,
- 11:15Speaker 6: especially Brown, you know, I mentally productive receiver in this league.
- 11:19Speaker 6: I think when you learning a new system. They both
- 11:22Speaker 6: come from West Coast backgrounds. West Coast offense backgrounds, yep,
- 11:25Speaker 6: which is different, you know, a lot different. We heard
- 11:28Speaker 6: from Brian Hoyer a couple of years ago just how
- 11:30Speaker 6: different the Josh McDaniels system is to that West Coast system.
- 11:33Speaker 6: So that holds true for wide receivers too, So I'm
- 11:37Speaker 6: not necessarily consternated. Yeah, but I definitely have noticed that
- 11:43Speaker 6: it hasn't it hasn't clicked yet, and I'm.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Not going to put it all on the receivers. Drake
- 11:47Speaker 3: hasn't been you know, perfectly accurate. Yeah, yeah, I've seen.
- 11:51Speaker 5: I've seen.
- 11:52Speaker 3: You know, there was one over the middle to Brown
- 11:54Speaker 3: where you know we overshot him. Uh So I think
- 11:58Speaker 3: the quarterback needs to settle in as well, you know,
- 12:01Speaker 3: with his accuracy. So I'm with Paul, I'm not there's
- 12:06Speaker 3: no consternation on my part. I think both Dobbs and
- 12:11Speaker 3: aj Brown are pros.
- 12:13Speaker 5: You know, they'll get it. Yeah, I'll get it, they'll
- 12:15Speaker 5: get it. Where I think that it's.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Going to take time is in this type of offense,
- 12:20Speaker 3: there's some decision making that has to.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Be made by the receivers.
- 12:24Speaker 3: It's not like that West Coast where everybody's got the route.
- 12:27Speaker 5: It's kind of more.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Rhythmic, you know, balls out of the hands of the
- 12:30Speaker 3: quarterback really quickly.
- 12:32Speaker 5: I think there's more thinking involved in this Josh McDaniel's offense.
- 12:37Speaker 3: And I don't want to say that it'd tell you
- 12:40Speaker 3: it's rocket science, but it just takes a little time.
- 12:43Speaker 3: And I would say by next week, you're going to
- 12:45Speaker 3: see an improvement.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I would hope. Yeah. And I like what you said, Fred.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I mean, I think there were some throws that Drake missed.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I think there were probably some where Dobbs or Brown
- 12:55Speaker 2: weren't in the exact spot that he wanted him wanted
- 12:58Speaker 2: them to be. And that's a work in progress. But
- 13:01Speaker 2: you know, I do think it was a positive sign
- 13:02Speaker 2: for me just to get that glimpse of Drake launching
- 13:05Speaker 2: that bomb to Kaishan Boody, because that was what made
- 13:08Speaker 2: Drake a superhero last year. His downfield accuracy, his connection
- 13:12Speaker 2: you know with Kaishan Boody was on display last year.
- 13:15Speaker 2: It's on display here in practice. So that is what
- 13:17Speaker 2: is going to make this team be special. If Drake's
- 13:20Speaker 2: able to continue to throw the ball down the field
- 13:22Speaker 2: with accuracy, and you know, as Aj Brown and Dobbs
- 13:24Speaker 2: hopefully learned to find the right spots and Drake gets
- 13:26Speaker 2: warmed up, you can start rolling. But I think there's
- 13:29Speaker 2: too much talent to really get worried over what three
- 13:32Speaker 2: practices and a walk through they got time. But look,
- 13:36Speaker 2: it's something everybody's going to be watching for no question, everybody.
- 13:38Speaker 2: All eyes are on aj Brown and how can he
- 13:41Speaker 2: elevate this offense? What level can he help them get to?
- 13:43Speaker 3: You mentioned booty. I mean he's just doing what he
- 13:45Speaker 3: does right. When he gets throwing the ball, he catches it. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:49Speaker 3: So I don't know. I'm I'm beginning to think that
- 13:53Speaker 3: this guy's going to be a New England Patriot in
- 13:55Speaker 3: twenty twenty six.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Twenty twenty six, Well, you wonder where you know his
- 13:59Speaker 2: head's at. And I mean he's, like Mike Fabel said
- 14:01Speaker 2: this morning in the press conference. You know, he's been
- 14:03Speaker 2: the same guy. He doesn't really say much. He goes out,
- 14:05Speaker 2: he does his job. He catches the ball when it
- 14:07Speaker 2: comes his way, even if it's a tough catch. So
- 14:09Speaker 2: if you're Kayshan Boudy, do you look at this and
- 14:11Speaker 2: say I got a good rapport with Drake? Maybe I
- 14:14Speaker 2: won't get the volume that I'm going to need to
- 14:16Speaker 2: really truly get that sizeable free agent contract that he
- 14:19Speaker 2: might want next year. But at the same time, what's
- 14:22Speaker 2: the guarantee if you do go somewhere else and you
- 14:24Speaker 2: got to learn a new offense and you got to
- 14:26Speaker 2: feel out a new quarterback, is that you know necessarily
- 14:28Speaker 2: going to make a more productive somewhere else.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I don't know, right, And how many quarterbacks have that
- 14:32Speaker 3: touchdown field that can take advantage of Booty's talents.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, at the end of the day, the
- 14:37Speaker 2: most productive twenty twenty six season for Kaishan Boudy very
- 14:40Speaker 2: likely is going to come here in New England, even
- 14:42Speaker 2: if it is in a you know, rotational kind of
- 14:44Speaker 2: a role. And look, injuries happen all the time. It's
- 14:47Speaker 2: not hard to see, you know, AJ Brown has a
- 14:49Speaker 2: hamstring issue one week or something, you're going to be
- 14:51Speaker 2: really glad you have Kaysehan Boody. So I got a
- 14:53Speaker 2: lot of respect for how he's gone about it and
- 14:55Speaker 2: just how he's progressed since he got here as a rookie. Yeah,
- 14:57Speaker 2: we scheduled to hear from him today Booty. Yeah. Yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 2: And I feel like.
- 15:03Speaker 6: The way that Mike Vrabel answered the question is before
- 15:05Speaker 6: we've came on the air, how has he been? You know,
- 15:09Speaker 6: we've seen his production on the field, how has he
- 15:11Speaker 6: been off the field?
- 15:12Speaker 2: And he said exactly the same as last year.
- 15:13Speaker 6: Very professional, and I think that that will remain as
- 15:19Speaker 6: long as he feels like he's being dealt with.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Honestly, I agree with Mike. In terms of injuries.
- 15:26Speaker 6: We've been talking all off season about how fortunate the
- 15:28Speaker 6: Patriots were with injuries last year. Well, maybe that's not
- 15:30Speaker 6: the case this year. Who knows, who knows where it comes.
- 15:33Speaker 6: If they get injuries, then I think that Booty's best
- 15:36Speaker 6: solution is here. If there's no injuries, virtually any option
- 15:40Speaker 6: would be more than thirty catches. So I can understand
- 15:43Speaker 6: if he gets to the end of training camp and
- 15:46Speaker 6: everybody's healthy. Yeah, and now he says, I did everything
- 15:50Speaker 6: you guys asked me to do.
- 15:51Speaker 2: You got to get me somewhere. Now, I don't know
- 15:52Speaker 2: what he's going to say.
- 15:53Speaker 6: I'm curious to see how he handles those questions. My
- 15:55Speaker 6: guess is he's going to take a page out of
- 15:57Speaker 6: Christian Gonzalez's playbook from Tuesday. He's not going to get
- 16:00Speaker 6: into anything like that. He's just going to say, I'm
- 16:02Speaker 6: here playing football. That's my only mindset, my only focus.
- 16:05Speaker 6: Has proven that I'm one of the best receivers in
- 16:08Speaker 6: his team. He's a very confident kid, and he's and
- 16:11Speaker 6: he's carried himself that way for the last really three seasons,
- 16:15Speaker 6: but especially the last the last two counting this year,
- 16:18Speaker 6: you know, twenty five and twenty six. He's done everything
- 16:20Speaker 6: that's been asked of him. And I wouldn't expect him
- 16:22Speaker 6: to speak out of turn today either. But if he's
- 16:25Speaker 6: feeling that way at the end of training camp, if
- 16:28Speaker 6: everybody's healthy, I could completely understand it, because he feels
- 16:31Speaker 6: like he's he's capable of more.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what make it interesting too, is if
- 16:34Speaker 2: Kyle Williams started to make some plays or start to
- 16:36Speaker 2: show up a little bit, and then you know, even
- 16:38Speaker 2: from the Patriots depth perspective, you might feel like we
- 16:41Speaker 2: can get something maybe for Kashawan based on how he's
- 16:43Speaker 2: had a really good summer. But this is going to
- 16:45Speaker 2: open the door a little bit for Kyle Williams because
- 16:48Speaker 2: you know, that's another been another storyline that he just
- 16:50Speaker 2: doesn't really gotten any opportunities, and I mean looks sometimes
- 16:54Speaker 2: guy's got to run with the twos and you got
- 16:56Speaker 2: to find a way to make some plays when the
- 16:58Speaker 2: ball does come your way. And that's just where hot
- 17:00Speaker 2: that's where, you know. And you know Chisholm's made a
- 17:02Speaker 2: few catches here and there, but but he but he
- 17:04Speaker 2: has you know, I mean, Kyle Williams hasn't. So you know, again,
- 17:07Speaker 2: I'm not going to overreact to A J. Brown. I'm
- 17:09Speaker 2: not going to overreact to to Kyle Williams, but I
- 17:10Speaker 2: think he needs to.
- 17:13Speaker 6: Those two guys have not been factors at all. I
- 17:16Speaker 6: don't know how one three catches each with the twos.
- 17:21Speaker 6: I didn't see the three Kyleiams I saw yesterday Tuesday
- 17:25Speaker 6: with the twos, not not with Drake May.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Get any reps with Drake May? Yeah, No.
- 17:29Speaker 5: But Chisholm looks good. You know when he's out there.
- 17:32Speaker 2: With the twos, he's absolutely well. When you're talking about
- 17:35Speaker 2: the death, that's that's to me where those guys are.
- 17:38Speaker 2: And you know you got a wigh Kayshawn Boody in
- 17:40Speaker 2: a lame duck year, Kyle Williams, you know, in a
- 17:43Speaker 2: year where you're looking for him to make a second year,
- 17:45Speaker 2: Leap won an off season award, has clearly been focused
- 17:48Speaker 2: in training. So that's I think that's gonna be where
- 17:52Speaker 2: the decision comes down to Williams and Booty all right.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Eight five to five, PATS five hundred is the hotline.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Podcasts at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 18:02Speaker 2: We got Lucas and holy Oak, Holy Ok.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Probably I went to holy Cross. I never heard of
- 18:12Speaker 5: Lucas on the phone. How you doing, I'm doing good.
- 18:18Speaker 7: So my question is, do you guys think our offensive
- 18:22Speaker 7: line this year, especially on the left side, so Will
- 18:25Speaker 7: Campbell will be as good as the start of last year,
- 18:29Speaker 7: because when Will Campbell got the injury, he got worse
- 18:33Speaker 7: and and had the Super Bowl, it didn't seem like
- 18:35Speaker 7: they were one hundred percent.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I think it's going to be better, honestly better be
- 18:41Speaker 3: uh yeah, because not just because of Will Campbell, but
- 18:44Speaker 3: because of Vera Tucker next to him.
- 18:47Speaker 5: I mean, you've got a really.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Seasoned pro, a pros pro next to him, and if
- 18:52Speaker 3: he can stay healthy, I you know, I think he
- 18:55Speaker 3: might be I think I heard one of your guys
- 18:59Speaker 3: last night, Mike g already say if he's healthy this year,
- 19:02Speaker 3: he could be the best pickup of the offseason for
- 19:04Speaker 3: the Patriots.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm curious to see lom Lomu. I
- 19:08Speaker 2: think Loan was a really important player. You know, I
- 19:11Speaker 2: said this morning, I think he's going to back up
- 19:13Speaker 2: multiple spots on this line, and I think it's on
- 19:15Speaker 2: the coaching staff to get him ready and to you know,
- 19:18Speaker 2: you heard Mike Raible talk about it this morning, how
- 19:20Speaker 2: NFL football is different. And to Paul's point about injuries
- 19:24Speaker 2: happening this year, I mean, I think Caleb Lomana when
- 19:26Speaker 2: you got Ben Brown, and you know you like Ben Brown,
- 19:28Speaker 2: he's a solid interior backup, especially at center. But really
- 19:32Speaker 2: I think Loan move was a backup at four spots.
- 19:34Speaker 2: So I think they're gonna need Caleb Lomou this year
- 19:37Speaker 2: and they got to get him ready. My other question
- 19:39Speaker 2: is just Jared Wilson in this transition. When they drafted him,
- 19:41Speaker 2: people said he's a center, that's his natural position. He
- 19:44Speaker 2: able to win the left guard spot last year. I
- 19:47Speaker 2: don't think you've heard a lot about that kind of newness,
- 19:50Speaker 2: because that's really, you know, to me, a major new piece.
- 19:53Speaker 2: If you don't hear about it, well we'll see when
- 19:55Speaker 2: the Pats come on, because you know, this is when
- 19:57Speaker 2: you know, you got to worry about having the front
- 19:59Speaker 2: of the p keeping the you know, keeping Drake clean,
- 20:01Speaker 2: those big body interior guys that can you know, I
- 20:04Speaker 2: saw matter Bik came back and Baltimore is a good
- 20:07Speaker 2: example of just you know, a guy who's a problem
- 20:09Speaker 2: on the inside. So, you know, Jerry Wilson's transition, I
- 20:12Speaker 2: think is something really to watch that that hasn't been
- 20:14Speaker 2: getting a lot of talk, reasonably so given what the
- 20:17Speaker 2: practices have been. But now with pads going against some
- 20:20Speaker 2: of those big guys, Corey Dirden, how does he hold
- 20:22Speaker 2: up on the inside and the type of question the.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Big test will be that first joint practice with the Colts,
- 20:27Speaker 3: because that's when we'll get our first real indication of
- 20:31Speaker 3: how the offensive line is going. And you know, I
- 20:35Speaker 3: keep going back to two years ago when the Eagles
- 20:37Speaker 3: came here, and man, did we get a dose of
- 20:40Speaker 3: reality of what our offensive line was like? You know, yeah,
- 20:44Speaker 3: we were going against one of the best defensive fronts.
- 20:47Speaker 2: In the league at that time, but you couldn't get
- 20:49Speaker 2: a playoff.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, but it was like literally you couldn't
- 20:53Speaker 3: run your offense, you couldn't run your offense. So you know,
- 20:57Speaker 3: even though even in joint practices you're not tackled full
- 21:00Speaker 3: you know, up front, they're playing full speed. And so
- 21:04Speaker 3: when the Colts come to town for that one joint practice, well.
- 21:08Speaker 5: I think we'll get our first real.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Indication of where they are at this point in time.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah. I think you'll get your first almost real today
- 21:17Speaker 2: with the one on ones that go on, and there'll
- 21:19Speaker 2: be you know, plenty of stats coming out about how
- 21:21Speaker 2: will Campbell held up, how jar you know, what does
- 21:26Speaker 2: Elijah Ponder look like? And some of these drills. You know,
- 21:28Speaker 2: that'll be what we overreact to today. But that's what
- 21:31Speaker 2: I'm you know, I'm excited to see that those those
- 21:33Speaker 2: one on one matchups, the physicality and Lomu, especially getting
- 21:36Speaker 2: him out there and seeing how he deals with the
- 21:37Speaker 2: one on ones.
- 21:38Speaker 6: Mike makes a great point too about the overreaction. It's like,
- 21:41Speaker 6: what's the one area everybody is sort of agreement that
- 21:44Speaker 6: you know they might be lacking. And not only they're lacking,
- 21:47Speaker 6: but two of the guys that you're hoping a big
- 21:49Speaker 6: part of it haven't practiced yet.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Landry and act as bitch, right, right, So now the
- 21:53Speaker 2: offensive line will do a great impassment. That didn't be like,
- 21:56Speaker 2: oh I thought I thought real Campbell couldn't play it.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Will just make the biggest deal. Jesse Luketta couldn't get
- 22:04Speaker 2: past Will Campbell today. But I but I do think, uh,
- 22:08Speaker 2: you know, draymonnt Jones is a veteran, so there you
- 22:10Speaker 2: know there will be some some interest there and you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: of course that's it'll all be overreaction. But I got
- 22:15Speaker 2: to say, like I just I'm a Will Campbell fan.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I think he's really athletic guy, he's really tough, and
- 22:20Speaker 2: I'm excited just to see in your two how it
- 22:22Speaker 2: all translates winning offseason award him and Jared Wilson got
- 22:25Speaker 2: of translated here to the field. You know, you win
- 22:27Speaker 2: the weight lifting award and you've been around and you're
- 22:29Speaker 2: being good guy. That that's all well and nice, but
- 22:31Speaker 2: this is when things start to get real, and you know,
- 22:34Speaker 2: I just love to see Will Campbell take that next
- 22:35Speaker 2: step because you know, I think he brings attitude to
- 22:38Speaker 2: the offensive line. I think he's snarly when he you know,
- 22:40Speaker 2: as a finisher, and I think that he's really athletic
- 22:43Speaker 2: and he's able to lead plays, and I think he
- 22:44Speaker 2: can really be a factor for Josh McDaniels. I don't
- 22:47Speaker 2: know how much of a you know, how much that
- 22:49Speaker 2: played an impact last year. We talked about, you know,
- 22:52Speaker 2: him having a tough time in pass protection with the knee,
- 22:54Speaker 2: but I also just wonder how much it affected them
- 22:56Speaker 2: in terms of getting him out on screens. I think
- 22:58Speaker 2: that's when you know, you see him do some of
- 23:00Speaker 2: his best work is when he's out out moving in space.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, but what a difference, you know, from
- 23:07Speaker 3: two years ago to last year to now now. It
- 23:11Speaker 3: seems like when it comes to the offensive line, not
- 23:15Speaker 3: only do the front five look better.
- 23:17Speaker 5: But the depth is there too.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Yeah, we're talking about we can't wait to see Lomo,
- 23:22Speaker 3: but we could see him in a number of places.
- 23:25Speaker 5: Ben Brown is a solid.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You know, uh, interior guy in in three spots, So
- 23:31Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of quality depth.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Uh.
- 23:33Speaker 5: You know, you're gonna have Morgan Moses.
- 23:35Speaker 3: On the outside on the right side, but you know
- 23:38Speaker 3: Lomo's getting runs behind him.
- 23:40Speaker 5: So you've got two really good subs.
- 23:43Speaker 3: We hope with Lomo and certainly with Ben Brown, boy,
- 23:48Speaker 3: they've come a long way.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a promising I mean seven guys. You know,
- 23:51Speaker 2: you wonder maybe Marcus Bryant is the ape seeing him
- 23:54Speaker 2: getting some decent word, you know, Mike, Yeah, yeah. I
- 23:57Speaker 2: mean that's you know, another second year guy who who's
- 24:00Speaker 2: showing some development. But what about Crono the less so,
- 24:04Speaker 2: I mean I haven't seen much of him. I mean,
- 24:05Speaker 2: he's another big dude. I mean it's almost the same
- 24:07Speaker 2: thing as Marcus Bryant, where you have, you know, really
- 24:09Speaker 2: tall guy with some traits that you know, might need
- 24:11Speaker 2: a little bit of time to develop, but clearly they
- 24:13Speaker 2: have a love for these big tackles. And you know, again,
- 24:16Speaker 2: just to go back to Lomu, I think, you know,
- 24:18Speaker 2: I'm I'm still not on the fence, but like, I
- 24:21Speaker 2: still think he's got a ways to go. I still
- 24:23Speaker 2: think he's you know, needs every practice of this camp
- 24:26Speaker 2: to get up to speed and to get to a
- 24:28Speaker 2: place where, you know, and here he comes walking up
- 24:30Speaker 2: the hill now ready for his fist. He looks, he's like,
- 24:34Speaker 2: do shut up, I'm ready to dominate.
- 24:35Speaker 5: But but you know it's.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Uh, you know, the knock on him a little bit
- 24:40Speaker 2: coming out was that he didn't quite have the attitude
- 24:42Speaker 2: that you know, maybe Varabel's teams want. And you know, again,
- 24:45Speaker 2: it's almost the same thing as Gonzalez, where like, oh
- 24:47Speaker 2: he doesn't quite hit and I'm like, yeah, but does
- 24:48Speaker 2: he is the athletic? Does he have the traits he does?
- 24:50Speaker 2: So we'll see today if he plays, you know, maybe
- 24:52Speaker 2: with a little bit of edge, if they were able
- 24:54Speaker 2: to start to bring that out of out of Lomu
- 24:55Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Yeah, you mentioned rared in his name. We move over
- 25:00Speaker 3: to the side a little bit, from the offensive line
- 25:02Speaker 3: over to the tight ends.
- 25:04Speaker 5: He's shown some catching ability.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Here, made a couple of catches, you know, sitting down
- 25:09Speaker 2: playing you know a little bit more with with the twos. Uh,
- 25:12Speaker 2: you know, I think it's how does he fit in
- 25:13Speaker 2: with with Tanner Arkin and you know Jack West Over
- 25:16Speaker 2: those two guys. I think, you know, you want a
- 25:18Speaker 2: complimentary guy with Hunter Henry. You don't want, you know,
- 25:21Speaker 2: Hunter Henry and a guy who's going to be just
- 25:22Speaker 2: a just a receiver unless you're you know, third and
- 25:25Speaker 2: fifteen and you're you're trying to stretch everything out. So yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 2: you know, I'd love to just see him start to
- 25:31Speaker 2: show up every day and start to you know, we're
- 25:32Speaker 2: seeing little bits here and there. Do with the twos first,
- 25:36Speaker 2: then maybe he starts to get some chances for the ones,
- 25:39Speaker 2: because you know, a guy like Tanner Arkin can come in,
- 25:41Speaker 2: be complimentary to Hunter Henry, be a blocking guy, be
- 25:44Speaker 2: a presence in the run game. But when I look
- 25:46Speaker 2: at Eli rhard and I just see all kinds of potential.
- 25:49Speaker 2: I think he's got the frame to be a blocker.
- 25:51Speaker 2: He looks pretty smooth on the hoof. It just has
- 25:53Speaker 2: to continue to stack days here.
- 25:55Speaker 5: At the Rooks on the hoof, I heard it. Yeah, right, runs,
- 25:59Speaker 5: it looks good. Where would you get that one?
- 26:00Speaker 2: I don't know, just can't to me, friends moved on
- 26:02Speaker 2: the hoof? Does that make sense? You know what?
- 26:05Speaker 5: I don't like running and he's smooth and so he's a.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Super runner, runs smoothly.
- 26:11Speaker 5: You know.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Coach is like a horse though, and he's I don't know,
- 26:13Speaker 2: it just came out of me.
- 26:15Speaker 5: Okay, all right.
- 26:18Speaker 3: You know it is frustrating for me though when we
- 26:21Speaker 3: go to these practices because and you want to talk
- 26:23Speaker 3: defense other than coverage, it's how can.
- 26:28Speaker 5: You judge the defense? Yeah you really can't.
- 26:31Speaker 3: I mean I see Milton Williams and Barmore up there
- 26:35Speaker 3: and that gives me a lot of confidence.
- 26:37Speaker 5: But I have no idea how they're doing it.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Well, there's been some runs where it's there's no no
- 26:42Speaker 2: room in there. I do also, just Sam and I
- 26:44Speaker 2: thought the first couple of days, which is, you know,
- 26:46Speaker 2: the covers there round the ball a lot. I mean,
- 26:48Speaker 2: Christian gan Zalez, you know, Craig Woodson coming up with
- 26:50Speaker 2: a pick. That's all you can really ask, and these
- 26:52Speaker 2: kind of in these kind of situations. But I still
- 26:55Speaker 2: look at the secondary, even with the limited viewing power
- 26:57Speaker 2: we have here, I still think that's right now, the
- 27:00Speaker 2: best best unit on the team that showed up right
- 27:02Speaker 2: out of the gate. Now without Carlon Davis, I think
- 27:05Speaker 2: that might that might change a little bit.
- 27:07Speaker 5: So do we know, like what what his deal is?
- 27:11Speaker 1: No?
- 27:11Speaker 8: Did it's like a leg Yeah, some type of legs maybe, yeah, Yeah,
- 27:15Speaker 8: that's it's Rabel didn't sound like he's sound like it
- 27:17Speaker 8: might be a couple of days from the tone that
- 27:18Speaker 8: that Brabel said in the in the pregame press conference
- 27:21Speaker 8: there pre practice, excuse me.
- 27:24Speaker 2: So we'll see. I mean again, christ they're about seventeen
- 27:26Speaker 2: times last year. I thought Carlton Davis was gone for
- 27:28Speaker 2: the year, then we'd see him back out. So hopefully, hopefully,
- 27:33Speaker 2: you know, it's nothing major and there they're just going
- 27:35Speaker 2: to be precautious. You know, Carlton Davis is going to
- 27:36Speaker 2: show up. I mean, look at him in the playoffs.
- 27:38Speaker 2: That was you know, I thought he was good in
- 27:40Speaker 2: the regular season last year, but you know he was
- 27:42Speaker 2: excellent in the playoffs.
- 27:43Speaker 3: All right, do we want to take a break? I can't, Okay,
- 27:48Speaker 3: So let's take a break. When we come back, we'll

- 30:30Speaker 3: We're joined now by Evan Hi. Evan Lazarre. We've been
- 30:35Speaker 3: talking a lot.
- 30:36Speaker 12: Yes, you know, that's what we do.
- 30:38Speaker 3: You you often look at things through a different lens
- 30:41Speaker 3: sometimes than most human beings.
- 30:44Speaker 5: So what what are your takes up to this point?
- 30:48Speaker 12: Just in general?
- 30:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that.
- 30:52Speaker 13: Generally speaking, I felt like it was kind of a
- 30:55Speaker 13: home start to training camp.
- 30:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 30:57Speaker 13: I think what's jarring to me is how few starting roles,
- 31:03Speaker 13: if any, are kind of for grabs in this training camp.
- 31:06Speaker 5: And is that a good thing.
- 31:07Speaker 13: I think it's a good sign of a good team. Yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 13: that you don't have all these questions all over the team.
- 31:11Speaker 13: But since I've been you know, here and working for
- 31:13Speaker 13: the team Fred, every training camp we come in and.
- 31:16Speaker 12: It's like who's the quarterback, who's the left tackle?
- 31:18Speaker 13: You know, what's going on in this practice, in this
- 31:21Speaker 13: training camp, I feel like I could probably tell you.
- 31:24Speaker 12: You could probably tell me.
- 31:26Speaker 13: Who the starting eleven guys on both sides of the
- 31:28Speaker 13: ball Week one against Seattle are going to be.
- 31:30Speaker 12: Already we're talking a lot.
- 31:31Speaker 13: About the third cornerback spot or you know, the fourth
- 31:36Speaker 13: third tight end, or the third running back or like
- 31:38Speaker 13: all these depth battles, which I think is a good sign.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Like you said, yep. In terms of the age.
- 31:47Speaker 3: You know, we started the show talking about the AJ
- 31:49Speaker 3: Brown Drake May connection. Yeah, your take on that.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:53Speaker 13: I think that AJ Brown has built up so much
- 31:56Speaker 13: equity over his career that I almost need to see
- 32:00Speaker 13: him struggle in regular season games before I even start
- 32:03Speaker 13: to worry that he's not going to get it. You know,
- 32:05Speaker 13: I think it's way too early now. But I don't
- 32:08Speaker 13: even know if I care if he's struggling in any
- 32:10Speaker 13: of the practices because he's AJ Brown, Like, I just
- 32:13Speaker 13: expect him to figure it out.
- 32:14Speaker 12: I expect him to be good.
- 32:16Speaker 13: I think that he and Drake May both expect it
- 32:19Speaker 13: to figure.
- 32:20Speaker 12: Itself out as well.
- 32:21Speaker 13: And the one other thing I would add, and I
- 32:23Speaker 13: think we brought it up the other day, he's not, really,
- 32:26Speaker 13: as Dan Campbell said, a pajama party guy. Like he's
- 32:29Speaker 13: a full pads. He's a football player, you know, like
- 32:33Speaker 13: he's not. He's a physical guy. He's great after the
- 32:36Speaker 13: catch with the ball in his hands. He's great at
- 32:39Speaker 13: you know, boxing out and fighting for body positioning and
- 32:41Speaker 13: bumping guys off routes and things like that. You're not
- 32:44Speaker 13: going to do that in an unpadded practice. Against your teammate, Like,
- 32:47Speaker 13: he's not going to run into Christian Gonzalez and knock
- 32:50Speaker 13: him off the top of the route in the second
- 32:52Speaker 13: day of training camp. So if you're looking for a
- 32:55Speaker 13: guy that is that quick separator, then that's probably not
- 32:58Speaker 13: who he is at this point of his career. But
- 33:00Speaker 13: I'm not concerned at all about him long term. You know,
- 33:03Speaker 13: it's obviously something that we all jot down, like, hey,
- 33:07Speaker 13: it hasn't looked great yet, but I don't think it's
- 33:09Speaker 13: a cause for concern at all.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Okay, what about Romeo Dobbs, because he's been quiet that one.
- 33:15Speaker 13: I'm maybe a little bit more small he concerned about
- 33:17Speaker 13: just because he, like I said just now, he doesn't
- 33:20Speaker 13: have the equity that Aj Brown has. He's not a
- 33:23Speaker 13: multi time pro bowler and a fifteen hundred yard receiver
- 33:26Speaker 13: in his career. So I would like to see Dobbs
- 33:30Speaker 13: get open a little bit more. I feel like every
- 33:32Speaker 13: target that I see of him, it feels like there's
- 33:35Speaker 13: a lot of traffic around him, or he's draped in
- 33:37Speaker 13: coverage or something like that.
- 33:39Speaker 12: You would like to see a little bit more separation.
- 33:42Speaker 13: And maybe that's you know, kind of contradictory to say,
- 33:45Speaker 13: I'm not worried about aj Brown at all, but I'm
- 33:47Speaker 13: a little worried about Romeo Dobbs. But to me, it's
- 33:49Speaker 13: really just about the players we're talking about.
- 33:51Speaker 3: You know, head coach Mike Rabel arriving to practice, does
- 33:54Speaker 3: he look a little beefier.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not going to judge him on that. He
- 33:58Speaker 2: did say some of the coaches need to be eating
- 33:59Speaker 2: a little. I don't know if he's referring it to
- 34:01Speaker 2: himself or the other guys, but you know, just to
- 34:04Speaker 2: Evan's point, I think, you know, the hope maybe is that.
- 34:06Speaker 2: And we talk so much about how difficult it was
- 34:09Speaker 2: for receivers to earn Brady's trust and to learn this offense,
- 34:12Speaker 2: and I don't think it's the same bar with Drake
- 34:15Speaker 2: that it was with you know, Brady at the end
- 34:16Speaker 2: of his career. But I do think an element of
- 34:19Speaker 2: playing fast is knowing what you're doing and not overthinking it.
- 34:22Speaker 2: And if you are overthinking early on, you might be
- 34:24Speaker 2: a little bit slower and a little less likely to separate.
- 34:27Speaker 2: So that's my hope that as we see these guys
- 34:29Speaker 2: start to stack days and reps, that you start to
- 34:31Speaker 2: see them pick up the speed a little bit nowhere
- 34:33Speaker 2: to be know exactly where Drake wants to put the
- 34:36Speaker 2: ball and you'll start to see some progress.
- 34:37Speaker 5: So Evan, with this being the first day of pads, Yes,
- 34:41Speaker 5: what are you looking at?
- 34:42Speaker 12: The guys were showing right now.
- 34:44Speaker 13: I mean, look, I know that we talk a lot
- 34:46Speaker 13: about Drake May and the wide receivers and aj Brown,
- 34:49Speaker 13: but the season hinges on those guys in the white
- 34:52Speaker 13: jerseys right good about the old line, Will Campbell, Morgan Moses.
- 34:56Speaker 13: You see Caleb Blowmon taking a right tackle pass set
- 34:58Speaker 13: right there on the right side. Like, those guys are
- 35:02Speaker 13: in my opinion, going to make or break the season,
- 35:04Speaker 13: because I think that Drake May is going to get
- 35:06Speaker 13: them where he got them last year, deep into the playoffs.
- 35:10Speaker 13: But if they're going to win this thing, then it's
- 35:12Speaker 13: going to come down to improvement. From sixty six Will Campbell,
- 35:15Speaker 13: from fifty five, Jared Wilson, like, those guys are the
- 35:18Speaker 13: guys that are going to have to really step up
- 35:21Speaker 13: and improve. And I would say on the other side,
- 35:23Speaker 13: to do some side of the ball. You know what
- 35:25Speaker 13: do they get out of those edge rushers? You know
- 35:27Speaker 13: what can they get out of those That group as well,
- 35:30Speaker 13: I think is just as important as the offensive line.
- 35:32Speaker 13: So for this team, I feel like I have pretty
- 35:36Speaker 13: much kind of know what they're going to get out
- 35:37Speaker 13: of the quarterback position and the receivers. I'm more concerned
- 35:40Speaker 13: about what they're going to get out of those two spots.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I said it before earlier when we were talking
- 35:45Speaker 3: about the old line. I really like the position we're
- 35:48Speaker 3: in right now. You know, one through five and then
- 35:50Speaker 3: the backups. I think for the first time in a
- 35:53Speaker 3: long time, we're talking about five up front that you
- 35:56Speaker 3: have confidence in and then backups depth that you.
- 36:01Speaker 5: Know if someone gets hurt, you have just as much confidence.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they've been really intentional. I mean, you've got your
- 36:07Speaker 2: last two first round picks are along the offensive line.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Great signing last year in Morgan Moses, you know, great
- 36:12Speaker 2: drafting there with Jared Wilson too, to find a little
- 36:15Speaker 2: bit of a gem there and you know, be able
- 36:16Speaker 2: to get him a year of experience, even though you
- 36:18Speaker 2: had Garrett Bradberry in there, and of course Michael WHENU
- 36:22Speaker 2: established players. I'm curious too to have to see how
- 36:25Speaker 2: much Morgan Moses does today. He's been on a little
- 36:27Speaker 2: bit of a plan. He was in a big plan
- 36:29Speaker 2: last year. This might be a great opportunity here on
- 36:32Speaker 2: this first day to just, you know, give Lomu a
- 36:34Speaker 2: bunch of reps and get his feet wet, throw right
- 36:36Speaker 2: into the fire.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Yep Nick and East Long Metal rights in Taysom Hill
- 36:41Speaker 3: and the Saints officially announced he won't be returning to
- 36:44Speaker 3: the team. I think he'd be a nice addition for
- 36:46Speaker 3: the Patriots. Josh McDaniels could get pretty creative with that player.
- 36:49Speaker 5: What do you think about that?
- 36:50Speaker 12: Yeah, he's did ten years into his career right now.
- 36:54Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 36:54Speaker 13: I think that that one sounded like maybe a retirement
- 36:58Speaker 13: is coming from the NFL. If not, I would imagine
- 37:01Speaker 13: that his first call will be to Sean Payton in
- 37:03Speaker 13: Denver to reunite with Sean Payton.
- 37:05Speaker 2: It's a good club.
- 37:06Speaker 5: I'm not really I never really.
- 37:08Speaker 12: Was in on Taysom Hill. It's not really my thing.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Especially not taking Drake off the field for him.
- 37:12Speaker 13: I like, if you have to get into I never
- 37:14Speaker 13: understood why the Saints took Drew Brees off the field
- 37:16Speaker 13: as much as they did.
- 37:18Speaker 12: For Taysom Hill. So it's not not my cup of tea.
- 37:20Speaker 3: But okay, uh Todd in Garner, North Carolina, other than
- 37:26Speaker 3: Drake May what three players need to take the next
- 37:29Speaker 3: step in their development for the Patriots to make a
- 37:31Speaker 3: deep run in the playoffs.
- 37:34Speaker 2: There's two offensive linement Will Campbell, Will Campbell, Jared Wilson,
- 37:38Speaker 2: and you know, I just to throw a random one.
- 37:40Speaker 2: I think Elijah Ponder if he's able to, you know,
- 37:43Speaker 2: be that guy on the edge and give them early
- 37:45Speaker 2: down snaps, give them some juice off the edge. I
- 37:48Speaker 2: think that would be a huge boost and alleviate some
- 37:50Speaker 2: of the concerns you might have with you know, Harold
- 37:53Speaker 2: Landry Frabel saying he's not as close as uh, you know,
- 37:56Speaker 2: as Gay Bacchus is right now. So it's you know
- 37:59Speaker 2: that to me is such a key part of this
- 38:01Speaker 2: team seeing the development of those edge players. How does
- 38:03Speaker 2: Draymont Jones fit in? He said he's been in this defense.
- 38:06Speaker 2: He knows what he's doing. So hopefully those two guys
- 38:09Speaker 2: are able to hold the fort at least early on,
- 38:12Speaker 2: until you get Akis and Landry up to speed.
- 38:14Speaker 5: And maybe Swinson's in the mix.
- 38:15Speaker 2: I don't know. He's showed up a little bit here
- 38:17Speaker 2: and there, and you know, talked about is changing his diet,
- 38:20Speaker 2: all those things he's done to really take all this seriously,
- 38:22Speaker 2: so you know, maybe he's a little bit of a wildcard.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Some really good perspective right now where the offensive line
- 38:28Speaker 3: is working out. Over the years, this area of the
- 38:31Speaker 3: practice field has been known as Dante's Inferno because the
- 38:35Speaker 3: O line they're always doing something, you know, while they're
- 38:38Speaker 3: doing seven on seven somewhere else, the O line is
- 38:41Speaker 3: constantly working out in this part of the field, and
- 38:44Speaker 3: we're getting a ground level perspective of them right now.
- 38:48Speaker 3: You know, practice really hasn't officially started kind of in
- 38:51Speaker 3: their position, just getting ready warming up. Practice will officially
- 38:56Speaker 3: start in a few minutes, so there's ponder working. The
- 39:01Speaker 3: guys do their own thing just to kind of get
- 39:03Speaker 3: the blood flowing.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yeah, great practice. I mean it's you know, it's just
- 39:07Speaker 2: interesting in pro football. The more you watch it and
- 39:10Speaker 2: study it is just how the minute details of these
- 39:15Speaker 2: kind of things. You know, you look at these guys
- 39:16Speaker 2: and their giants and you think, oh, he can beat
- 39:18Speaker 2: somebody up, but everybody's a giant, and it comes down
- 39:21Speaker 2: to footwork and false steps and hand placement and resetting
- 39:26Speaker 2: your hands and you know, there's so much to that
- 39:28Speaker 2: technique and you can see a lot of these players
- 39:30Speaker 2: working on those kind of things. Those are the kind
- 39:32Speaker 2: of things that you know, Caleb lom who's going to
- 39:34Speaker 2: have to learn where you take one half false step
- 39:37Speaker 2: one direction your beat in the NFL, that's how small
- 39:40Speaker 2: the margin is for er. So you know, getting these
- 39:42Speaker 2: guys up to speed. Doug Maroon did a great job
- 39:44Speaker 2: last year, Joe Jason hotailing. Hopefully they can get those
- 39:48Speaker 2: guys continuing to progress. Such a theme for this season,
- 39:51Speaker 2: continuing to progress, guys Corey Dirt and second year in
- 39:54Speaker 2: this system. Let's get all those guys continuing up the
- 39:57Speaker 2: hill and good.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Shot right there of the new training center for the Patriots,
- 40:02Speaker 3: the new Balance Athletics Center.
- 40:04Speaker 12: And the quarterback struggling with this.
- 40:08Speaker 5: Somebody so as opposed to last year where.
- 40:13Speaker 3: The locker rooms were in the stadium and you walk
- 40:16Speaker 3: down the service tunnel and then outside the stadium, then
- 40:19Speaker 3: up the stairs.
- 40:20Speaker 5: Right now they walk out and they're right on the field.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't see him anymore. We were going in
- 40:24Speaker 2: to record our post practice wrap up and it's.
- 40:27Speaker 12: Kind of I kind of missed that.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you usually would have like a sweaty
- 40:30Speaker 2: player walking in after, you know, but now, beautiful facility,
- 40:34Speaker 2: and then I know, I haven't actually been in a
- 40:36Speaker 2: good chunk of it yet, not that I should or
- 40:39Speaker 2: it should be, but I'm excited to see the locker
- 40:42Speaker 2: room for sure.
- 40:42Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's beautiful. It really is.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Everything about it, the locker room, the weight room, you know,
- 40:49Speaker 3: their lounge.
- 40:50Speaker 5: The dining room is huge. I mean the dining room.
- 40:54Speaker 3: I mean it's it's like anything you could possibly want.
- 40:58Speaker 5: It's it's a food lover's fantasy, the dining room. So
- 41:04Speaker 5: the locker room is huge.
- 41:06Speaker 13: That that's the part that stood out to me. And
- 41:08Speaker 13: this is a total champagne problem, but like there could
- 41:11Speaker 13: be a scrum going on on the other side of
- 41:12Speaker 13: the locker room when we have open locker room dues,
- 41:15Speaker 13: and you will have no idea what was said or
- 41:17Speaker 13: what was happening over there because it's that big. Compared
- 41:21Speaker 13: to the game day locker room too. I think that
- 41:24Speaker 13: the extra space I'm sure the players.
- 41:25Speaker 5: Are letting at and and other teams. There was a
- 41:27Speaker 5: couple announcements just the last couple of days.
- 41:29Speaker 3: The Giants are redoing their training Facilityronos and the Broncos,
- 41:35Speaker 3: and then there was another team announcing, you know, the
- 41:39Speaker 3: building of a new facility. So that's the thing. You
- 41:42Speaker 3: have to compete in the NFL. You know, it's an
- 41:45Speaker 3: arms race. Players, no free agents know who's got the
- 41:50Speaker 3: good facilities.
- 41:51Speaker 5: They talk and it's turning into college. Yeah, you have
- 41:55Speaker 5: you have to do it.
- 41:56Speaker 2: I remember, you know, we're in Vegas a couple of
- 41:58Speaker 2: years ago that was towards the Asma Hall. But even
- 42:00Speaker 2: Minnesota last year, great facility, you know, everything right there,
- 42:05Speaker 2: and you just see what modern football training facilities are
- 42:09Speaker 2: looking like. And clearly the new Battleans Athletic Center is
- 42:12Speaker 2: right on the cutting edge.
- 42:13Speaker 13: So on looks is the inside is a little bit
- 42:16Speaker 13: like Minnesota's. They took me around there when we were
- 42:19Speaker 13: there for a day and gave me a little quick tour,
- 42:22Speaker 13: and I feel like ours is similar to the one
- 42:25Speaker 13: that the Vikings have, and they're both really nice.
- 42:28Speaker 3: While we wait for practice to officially start, good time
- 42:31Speaker 3: for an over under game, you guys ready, yeah, all right,
- 42:34Speaker 3: so this is for the season. Drake May passing yards
- 42:37Speaker 3: four thousand in a hay over, Paul says over.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Paul's giving the thumbs up, enthusiastic.
- 42:43Speaker 12: Four thousand, I'd say over.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Okay, Drake May passing touchdowns thirty five and a hay
- 42:50Speaker 3: it's a good number.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Passing is a good number.
- 42:52Speaker 12: Total touchdowns passing touchdown.
- 42:54Speaker 2: I'm gonna go I'm gonna say he's under.
- 42:57Speaker 12: I'm gonna say under slightly because.
- 42:59Speaker 2: The other the rest of the offense is even better.
- 43:01Speaker 12: Well, I think he's going to I can call over,
- 43:03Speaker 12: We're going to get some rushing time.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Positive over there pointing to the sky.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Running game is going to be elite this year. So
- 43:10Speaker 3: May interceptions four and a hay over, that's that's more
- 43:15Speaker 3: than that last year.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you like, I would say, like
- 43:18Speaker 2: nine would be like a good like nine and a
- 43:20Speaker 2: half would be a good number.
- 43:21Speaker 13: I think the question with him, I don't know this
- 43:23Speaker 13: is gotten the list, but the question with him is fumbles,
- 43:25Speaker 13: not not interceptions.
- 43:27Speaker 12: Yeah, but that fumbles number has got to come down.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Stevenson rushing yards seven fifty and a Hey.
- 43:34Speaker 2: I'm going to go over on that. I think I
- 43:35Speaker 2: think you can find a way to get to a
- 43:37Speaker 2: thousand of them, wander if he stays healthy.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Okay, well then you got Henderson rushing yards eight fifty
- 43:42Speaker 3: and a hey, I'll say under on that one case.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Receiving yards is where he might rack up a little more.
- 43:48Speaker 5: Yeah, they don't have scrimmage yard.
- 43:49Speaker 12: I think that's a good number.
- 43:50Speaker 13: I think those two numbers are pretty good right where
- 43:53Speaker 13: well the Skys are.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Both thinking can hit there, you know, and now you're
- 43:56Speaker 3: talking sixteen hundred yards between the two of them.
- 43:58Speaker 2: That's pretty good.
- 43:59Speaker 5: So a J.
- 44:00Speaker 3: Brown receiving yards one thousand and a hay over that's.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Cool over yeah, over evan. Any fatation anything less than
- 44:08Speaker 2: that I think could be people be disappointed.
- 44:10Speaker 13: He had a thousand last year and everybody told me
- 44:12Speaker 13: he was washed from the season.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Last year and he was a terrible season.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Over one thousand.
- 44:16Speaker 3: So booty receiving yards seven fifty in a hay under
- 44:21Speaker 3: under under.
- 44:23Speaker 12: Not enough opportunity for seven to fifty.
- 44:25Speaker 2: Okay, but give me a four and a half touchdown
- 44:27Speaker 2: over under and that might be.
- 44:31Speaker 5: So let me let me just ask this question.
- 44:33Speaker 3: This isn't part of what Kyle from Pembroke wrote in
- 44:37Speaker 3: how many yards?
- 44:38Speaker 5: Well, then would you consider good for the number two receiver?
- 44:42Speaker 3: Whoever that turns out to be, Whether it's Romeo, Dobbs
- 44:45Speaker 3: or someone else. What would you want to see from
- 44:47Speaker 3: the number two on this team?
- 44:49Speaker 13: I'd say like eight hundred. Eight hundred is like the
- 44:54Speaker 13: that's the bottom line, right, Like you got to be
- 44:56Speaker 13: above that, and anything above that I think is good
- 45:00Speaker 13: are cooking them with gas. But I would say like
- 45:02Speaker 13: eight hundred just based off a volume, you.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Know, And is there any chance, just because of merit
- 45:08Speaker 3: and because of what he's doing out there, that Booty
- 45:10Speaker 3: could emerge as the number two receiver on this team?
- 45:15Speaker 12: Yeah?
- 45:15Speaker 2: I mean sure, I just you know, I get caught
- 45:18Speaker 2: up in the stuff where, you know, do you want
- 45:20Speaker 2: guy with a lot of yards? Do you want a
- 45:21Speaker 2: guy with a lot of catches? You know. I think
- 45:23Speaker 2: there's a balance between you know, having a volume guy
- 45:26Speaker 2: that's going to move the change, but also you know,
- 45:28Speaker 2: having a guy down the field that can that can
- 45:30Speaker 2: stretch things out. I think that's You're.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Just assuming that that's all that could be in Booty's repertoire,
- 45:35Speaker 3: And in the back of my mind, I'm thinking maybe
- 45:38Speaker 3: you could use him in more than that.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, I'll be interesting if you know, say Dobbscott
- 45:43Speaker 2: Hurt or you know, Dobbs wasn't able to go. Would
- 45:46Speaker 2: that open a door for Kashawn Booty for them to say, look,
- 45:49Speaker 2: let's take him out of you know, kind of what
- 45:51Speaker 2: we've been doing with him and move them around a
- 45:52Speaker 2: little bit more, give him those opportunities. I mean, I
- 45:54Speaker 2: trust Josh McDaniels. I think Josh McDaniels knows how to
- 45:57Speaker 2: evaluate wide receivers in his system and who can do
- 46:00Speaker 2: what and how they can be best employed. Uh, and
- 46:03Speaker 2: so you know, we'll see fred. I think that would
- 46:04Speaker 2: be a really interesting thing though, if you saw all
- 46:06Speaker 2: of a sudden, Booty starting to you know, maybe run
- 46:09Speaker 2: a little bit more of the quick game stuff and
- 46:11Speaker 2: you know, get the ball out getting in his hands
- 46:12Speaker 2: and see what he can do after the catch.
- 46:15Speaker 5: Henry receiving yards five hundred and a hey.
- 46:18Speaker 12: Had more than that last year.
- 46:19Speaker 2: So yeah, let's let's go a little slightly over, I know,
- 46:22Speaker 2: get some respect on the top tight ends list. I
- 46:24Speaker 2: think he was like seventh or eighth in there or something,
- 46:26Speaker 2: so hanging on and you know, Madden, it's a list.
- 46:28Speaker 3: I saw somebody on one of Paul's TV shows yesterday,
- 46:35Speaker 3: good news for the Patriots, Drake may was I don't
- 46:40Speaker 3: know what he said fifth Madden list.
- 46:42Speaker 12: I think he was like six.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Really, that's good news for.
- 46:45Speaker 3: The team that Madden ranks Drake may highed, you know six, Like,
- 46:49Speaker 3: what are we doing here?
- 46:50Speaker 5: I think we're judging things by Madden.
- 46:53Speaker 13: I think that there's a general consensus though that he's
- 46:56Speaker 13: that right now, he's sixth, and that puts him right
- 46:59Speaker 13: outside of the club with Stafford and Lamar and Alan
- 47:04Speaker 13: and Mahomes and Burrow because I don't think he's done enough.
- 47:08Speaker 5: And it's fine, but I don't even Madden to tell me, Well,
- 47:11Speaker 5: that's my point.
- 47:12Speaker 3: I say, we're not just for the Patriots because of video,
- 47:15Speaker 3: right is that's highly ranked.
- 47:18Speaker 2: They're cutting edge.
- 47:19Speaker 13: Barth cut into the show yesterday on Catch twenty two
- 47:22Speaker 13: with him with breaking news about the Matten.
- 47:25Speaker 2: I was just about to break Barth up because I
- 47:27Speaker 2: thought as soon as said that, he's.
- 47:30Speaker 13: Like we got a little bit of Patriots news, and
- 47:32Speaker 13: I was like, oh, go like Christian Gonzalez or whatever,
- 47:34Speaker 13: and he's like Hunter Henry is the eighth rated tight
- 47:37Speaker 13: end and Madden and I was like, seriously, all right,
- 47:40Speaker 13: God got.
- 47:41Speaker 9: Drake rated his number twenty three.
- 47:42Speaker 5: I'm looking at the website right now.
- 47:44Speaker 13: Maybe twenty three over overall, but overall i'mou quarterbacks.
- 47:48Speaker 5: He was six sorry, right, right.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Right right, Gonzo interceptions four and a hey, I'm.
- 47:54Speaker 12: Gonna go under.
- 47:55Speaker 5: He's not a big interceptions because they don't throw out.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but I thought Whatrable today kind of spoke to
- 48:01Speaker 2: that a little bit about you know, maybe being able
- 48:03Speaker 2: to make some more plays when he's not matched up
- 48:05Speaker 2: with a guy. That seems like a point of emphasis
- 48:07Speaker 2: for him using his athleticism to try to you know,
- 48:10Speaker 2: get in on plays that where he's the extra guy.
- 48:12Speaker 2: So yeah, we'll see. I mean, I think that's the
- 48:14Speaker 2: final frontier for him to you know, have one of
- 48:17Speaker 2: those seasons. I don't think it's ever consistent like you
- 48:19Speaker 2: see those guys. It's not like, oh, every year he
- 48:20Speaker 2: gets eight, like you know there's guys that have they
- 48:22Speaker 2: every year at eight and then they're back down to three.
- 48:25Speaker 2: So I'd love to just see him have one of
- 48:26Speaker 2: those special years with the ball. Just seems to find
- 48:28Speaker 2: him really rounded out.
- 48:30Speaker 13: I remember Santa Samuel talking about this and him going
- 48:34Speaker 13: back and forth with Bill about playing press or playing
- 48:37Speaker 13: off the line of scrimmage, and he said, and when
- 48:40Speaker 13: I played press. I can't see the ball, so how
- 48:42Speaker 13: do you expect me to pick the ball off? If
- 48:44Speaker 13: my back is to the quarterback, I'm not going to
- 48:46Speaker 13: be able to see the ball. So they started to
- 48:48Speaker 13: let a Sante Samuel play off more and use the
- 48:51Speaker 13: T step, you know, and drive on the ball a
- 48:53Speaker 13: little bit more, and then his interception numbers went up,
- 48:56Speaker 13: so you know, maybe Gonzo, you know, playing a little
- 48:58Speaker 13: bit more off coverage and allowing him to keep eyes
- 49:01Speaker 13: in the backfield so you can see the ball coming
- 49:04Speaker 13: towards him. It's hard to pick off a lot of
- 49:06Speaker 13: passes when your back is to the quarterback, like, it's
- 49:08Speaker 13: not a position to pick off.
- 49:10Speaker 3: You heard the horn in the background. That signifies a
- 49:13Speaker 3: change of periods. So we must be in period two now,
- 49:16Speaker 3: Yes we are, because we're not allowed to shoot one.
- 49:18Speaker 3: So cameras are on now and we're doing period two.
- 49:23Speaker 5: So you can see.
- 49:24Speaker 3: The offensive line and the quarterbacks getting together. And as
- 49:29Speaker 3: you know, if you've watched practice before, they build up
- 49:33Speaker 3: things progressionally. You know, they take one step at a
- 49:37Speaker 3: time and they build towards seven and seven, and then
- 49:39Speaker 3: seven on seven builds to eleven on eleven and that's
- 49:43Speaker 3: how they run practice.
- 49:44Speaker 2: So yeah, yep, yeah, the wather's kind of held off too.
- 49:47Speaker 2: This doesn't look bad at all. It's just a little
- 49:49Speaker 2: gloomy now, but not really much precipitation, so not quite
- 49:53Speaker 2: the test mental tests that it might have been if
- 49:56Speaker 2: it had been pouring out like it was earlier.
- 49:57Speaker 12: So crazy you want to mental test in their rain.
- 50:01Speaker 2: I don't want it. I don't want it. I'm just
- 50:02Speaker 2: saying it would be a little bit more mentally chal
- 50:05Speaker 2: I know.
- 50:05Speaker 13: I know, but I heard you guys talking about the
- 50:09Speaker 13: elements and all this stuff, like let's just let's just
- 50:12Speaker 13: keep everybody up right, Like, I don't I don't need
- 50:14Speaker 13: a wet field.
- 50:15Speaker 3: I don't need one take advantage of it, you know,
- 50:18Speaker 3: like do some stuff that you know, uh, might cause
- 50:22Speaker 3: you problems if it was a real.
- 50:24Speaker 5: Game, you know.
- 50:25Speaker 12: Yeah, Okay, I know.
- 50:27Speaker 5: That's that's what Bill always said.
- 50:28Speaker 13: I get these are one of the things that I
- 50:30Speaker 13: think Bill always said that didn't actually contribute to winning.
- 50:33Speaker 12: Not to play the role of Paul here, but he was.
- 50:37Speaker 13: I think him like devising a plan to stop Marshall
- 50:39Speaker 13: fulk is probably why they want not because they.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Like were ready for the elements I would say too.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Though to Evan's point, way too many guys around Drake's
- 50:48Speaker 2: legs over the last couple of practices I didn't like.
- 50:52Speaker 3: So where he hit his arm on the follow through
- 50:54Speaker 3: to pass the booty.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Too many guys around him, you know. I just that
- 50:58Speaker 2: you don't want to see that stuff. And as far
- 51:00Speaker 2: as like guys slipping in everything and fought like, let's stay,
- 51:03Speaker 2: let's stay as far from that stuff as we cant.
- 51:05Speaker 13: Yeah, yesterday it was just a litany of practice injuries
- 51:09Speaker 13: across the NFL. Guys getting carted off. Guys, my guy
- 51:12Speaker 13: Chris Brazzle is going to be out for eight weeks
- 51:15Speaker 13: with an LCL. Shamar Stewart and Cincinnati got carted off.
- 51:19Speaker 12: So it's just been you know, keep everybody healthy, you know.
- 51:22Speaker 3: Anthony says in all fairness, being six and Madden is
- 51:25Speaker 3: a great sign, and don't forget the best franchise and
- 51:28Speaker 3: owner uses Madden ratings to build this team, The Juts
- 51:31Speaker 3: Jets a bunch of loses in New Jersey.
- 51:35Speaker 8: I didn't hear that.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Oh that's fun.
- 51:38Speaker 13: So I asked barth if Madden, if it's all like
- 51:42Speaker 13: for you remember back in the day where like, if
- 51:44Speaker 13: you just had a ninety nine speed at wide receiver,
- 51:46Speaker 13: that's all that mattered. Like I remember Bethel Johnson was
- 51:49Speaker 13: like Randy Moss because he was just so fast, and
- 51:53Speaker 13: he was like, yeah kind of and I was like,
- 51:54Speaker 13: so that's the ranking that we're taking seriously, is the
- 51:57Speaker 13: one that as long as you're in ninety nine speed,
- 51:59Speaker 13: you're good in this game.
- 52:00Speaker 12: And we're taking the ranking seriously.
- 52:03Speaker 3: Cynthia writes in so Excited, she says, Paul is right.
- 52:06Speaker 3: People will make too much over what they see right now.
- 52:09Speaker 3: But I'm just gonna enjoy the experience of watching them
- 52:12Speaker 3: get ready to do amazing things.
- 52:14Speaker 5: This brings me joy.
- 52:15Speaker 3: I will be figuring out a way to use the
- 52:17Speaker 3: phrase smooth on the hoof a've worked today.
- 52:22Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm gonna have to google that to
- 52:23Speaker 2: see if that's actually a thing. But I don't know.
- 52:25Speaker 5: Is that the first time you've ever used it?
- 52:27Speaker 2: As far as I know, Fred, I don't know. It
- 52:29Speaker 2: just came out. I'm like an artist, you know, I
- 52:31Speaker 2: don't control that. It just wo just comes out of me.
- 52:34Speaker 5: I think a.
- 52:35Speaker 13: Great Vrabel line that I like is that he always says,
- 52:38Speaker 13: is it interesting or is it important?
- 52:40Speaker 5: Right?
- 52:40Speaker 13: And I think stuff from practice this time of year
- 52:43Speaker 13: is interesting. I don't think it's important yet, but you
- 52:46Speaker 13: still make mental notes of, you know, this didn't look
- 52:49Speaker 13: great early on with AJ Brown and Romeo Dobs, and
- 52:52Speaker 13: if Romeo Dobs or AJ Brown struggle in the season,
- 52:55Speaker 13: then you go back and you say, it never really
- 52:57Speaker 13: looked right from day one, you know, So that's six
- 53:01Speaker 13: months from now. That's not what you're reacting to right now.
- 53:04Speaker 13: Right now, we're in the interesting yeah yeah, category.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Well I remember, you know that that year that Patricia
- 53:12Speaker 3: took over for offensive coordinator and right away it just
- 53:16Speaker 3: didn't look right. It just didn't look right, and it
- 53:19Speaker 3: never did. It never did. So there is there is
- 53:23Speaker 3: something to say about even now the operation being smooth
- 53:28Speaker 3: or not. And you know, I would say right now it's.
- 53:30Speaker 2: About fifty to fifty, yeah, And I think that's about
- 53:32Speaker 2: what you would expect here early in camp, especially the
- 53:35Speaker 2: first few days and they're trying to get their feet
- 53:37Speaker 2: under him and stuff. But Tevin's point, it's not crazy
- 53:40Speaker 2: to start to expect that, you know, you start to
- 53:41Speaker 2: string something together. But you know, I do think too,
- 53:44Speaker 2: like to Evan's bigger point, you never come out of
- 53:47Speaker 2: training camp being like they had a great training camp
- 53:48Speaker 2: and they had a great year. It's like it's never
- 53:50Speaker 2: such a straight line. It's right, training camp has ups
- 53:52Speaker 2: and downs and stories, and really, I think the most
- 53:54Speaker 2: important thing is not getting hurt and not losing guys,
- 53:57Speaker 2: but the correlation between what camp they had and all that.
- 54:02Speaker 2: It's hard. It's hard for us to sit up here
- 54:03Speaker 2: and tell you unless you're in the players meetings and
- 54:05Speaker 2: the coaches meetings and you know what they're saying about
- 54:08Speaker 2: how they think the overall you know, tenor of the
- 54:10Speaker 2: team is unfolding. But otherwise it's it's it's tough to do,
- 54:14Speaker 2: tough to do.
- 54:15Speaker 5: Carlos from the Canary Islands in Spain, Boo, Yeah, I
- 54:19Speaker 5: bet you those are nice.
- 54:21Speaker 3: How is the linebacker corps looking this season or off season?
- 54:24Speaker 3: I've heard a lot of talk about cornerback and edge depth,
- 54:28Speaker 3: but it looks like we are really thin on linebackers.
- 54:31Speaker 3: Is there anyone besides Splane that can be a confident starter.
- 54:35Speaker 13: I think I'm pretty confident in Ellis being a robin.
- 54:39Speaker 13: To splain, you know, you don't want Ellis to be
- 54:42Speaker 13: your primary, you know, Mike linebacker that has all that responsibility,
- 54:46Speaker 13: but him him being the weak side guy, him being
- 54:48Speaker 13: kind of the number two theres is fine by me.
- 54:51Speaker 13: And I think I don't know if you can grade
- 54:53Speaker 13: linebackers right now and or evaluate them without any real
- 54:57Speaker 13: hitting or tackling or anything like that.
- 54:59Speaker 12: I mean, that's is to you know.
- 55:01Speaker 2: Tackle and hit Pete. But I mean the closest you
- 55:03Speaker 2: can get of is I think it was the first
- 55:04Speaker 2: or second day where Ellis just kind of came out
- 55:07Speaker 2: and met Ramandro Stevenson with you know, what would have
- 55:10Speaker 2: been a thud or a tackle, but just perfect, perfect positioning.
- 55:14Speaker 2: And I think that shows Christian Ellis's remarkable rise from
- 55:18Speaker 2: special teams guy to you know now it's like him
- 55:20Speaker 2: and his two brothers like taking the league by storm
- 55:23Speaker 2: with what they're doing at the second level. So you know,
- 55:26Speaker 2: hopefully he continues to develop. I mean last year his
- 55:28Speaker 2: first time is like a full time from the word
- 55:31Speaker 2: go to the end as a starter, So you know,
- 55:34Speaker 2: he could be a player as the weak side guy
- 55:36Speaker 2: that's that's going to have some space to run around,
- 55:38Speaker 2: to use his speed and make plays. And hopefully he
- 55:41Speaker 2: continues to do it. I mean, you know, again, in
- 55:42Speaker 2: the in the in the playoffs there, you know, getting
- 55:45Speaker 2: after uh what's his name, c J. Stroud, you know,
- 55:48Speaker 2: forcing that fumble and all that. So hopefully he continues
- 55:50Speaker 2: to make plays. That's a big position for them.
- 55:52Speaker 12: I think kJ Britt's a big player there.
- 55:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:55Speaker 12: Is he going to replace Jack Gibbons.
- 55:56Speaker 13: As sort of the third guy and spot starters team er,
- 56:00Speaker 13: you know, things like that.
- 56:01Speaker 12: I think it's going to be important.
- 56:03Speaker 5: Matt Morell did a little research.
- 56:05Speaker 3: He said, smooth on the hoof is an idiomatic expression
- 56:09Speaker 3: that combines the literal concept of equine hoofcare or movement
- 56:13Speaker 3: with metaphorical descriptions of athletic grace, automotive refinement, or vehicle performance.
- 56:19Speaker 2: That's what I was going for, you know, it's just
- 56:21Speaker 2: you know, I'll let other people try to figure out
- 56:23Speaker 2: my genius. Yep, yep.
- 56:31Speaker 5: Let's see Jeff.
- 56:33Speaker 3: And Hickory, North Carolina calls himself the Southern Patriot.
- 56:37Speaker 5: All right, all right, promise you. I thought about this
- 56:41Speaker 5: before Mac mentioned it.
- 56:43Speaker 3: With Ma's frame and stature, there must be some possibility
- 56:47Speaker 3: that he lines up opposite of Hunter Henry as a
- 56:50Speaker 3: tight end, just as Gronk lined up as a tight
- 56:52Speaker 3: end and a wide receiver slot. Could there be a
- 56:55Speaker 3: chance that Mac lines up in a tight end spot
- 56:58Speaker 3: with the wide receiver room being so out and would
- 57:00Speaker 3: that resolve part of the issue.
- 57:02Speaker 5: I think he's already done that right in the past.
- 57:05Speaker 2: Evan had a great diet travel. I'm done with this.
- 57:10Speaker 5: Why is that?
- 57:10Speaker 13: Because I keep explaining it over and over again and
- 57:13Speaker 13: I'm just like, I feel like a broken record.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Maybe do it again.
- 57:17Speaker 13: I'm not trying to be offensas like combative about it,
- 57:20Speaker 13: but it's just like, this is going to be the thing.
- 57:22Speaker 13: It's going to bother me all training camp, Like we're
- 57:25Speaker 13: going to get bogged down and buy the semantics of it,
- 57:27Speaker 13: and it is what it is. So like, if he's
- 57:29Speaker 13: he's lining up in spots where he's going to be
- 57:31Speaker 13: blocking the same bodies as he's going to be blocking
- 57:34Speaker 13: if he was a tight end, right, And I put
- 57:36Speaker 13: that in air quotes, like if he's blocking slock corners
- 57:40Speaker 13: and linebackers and safeties as a wide receiver, he's blocking
- 57:44Speaker 13: slot corners, linebackers and safeties as a tight end, that
- 57:47Speaker 13: we really changed his position.
- 57:48Speaker 2: Right, right? You know, it's really just the difference of
- 57:51Speaker 2: you would it make you feel better if he put
- 57:53Speaker 2: his hand in the dirt in a three point stance
- 57:55Speaker 2: and tried to get the edge.
- 57:56Speaker 13: Like he means with Thomas Brown instead of meeting with
- 58:00Speaker 13: Todd Downing and that.
- 58:01Speaker 12: Right, we just changed everything.
- 58:02Speaker 3: But the real issue there is roster spots, you know.
- 58:06Speaker 13: So, but I don't think it would change in their mind,
- 58:10Speaker 13: like how the roster is configured, because he's gonna do
- 58:14Speaker 13: the same things regardless of what position room he's meeting.
- 58:17Speaker 1: It.
- 58:17Speaker 5: Yes, in terms of who you keep and who you
- 58:19Speaker 5: don't keep.
- 58:20Speaker 13: Right, But I think to them, I don't think it's
- 58:22Speaker 13: going to make a difference because you're looking at it
- 58:24Speaker 13: as guys filling roles and guys that are going to
- 58:27Speaker 13: fit certain packages in certain situations and things like that,
- 58:31Speaker 13: and his responsibilities are not going to change. You know,
- 58:34Speaker 13: at two hundred and twenty pounds, he's not going to
- 58:36Speaker 13: put his hand in the dirt and block a defensive end.
- 58:38Speaker 3: But you don't think like counting him as a tight
- 58:41Speaker 3: end opens up a slot for another receiver.
- 58:43Speaker 5: No, a slot as a slot. Okay, all right, let's see.
- 58:49Speaker 5: Bob or Rob is a seventy.
- 58:51Speaker 3: One year old Vancouver Canadian fan UH and he's looking
- 58:55Speaker 3: for advice, maybe a book or something where he can
- 58:59Speaker 3: get information about the game, and the way he describes

- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Com all right, we are back here Patriots Unfiltered, our
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: special live coverage of the first full day of pads
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: for the Patriots, and as you can see, well at
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: little running there from Drake May under the supervision of
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: The team's getting ready to, you know, get into seven
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: on seven's and eleven's on eleven's and so.
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: It's almost a one of the milestones of training camp,
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: the first day of pads. There's league rules. Every team
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: has to follow them.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: You can't go into pads until a certain amount of
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: practices are under your belt. And then once you get
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: into pads, you can only have a certain amount of
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: padded practices, especially.
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: During the season.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Yeah, you know which you know, say what you want
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: about it. It's different than how me and Paul used
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: to grow up, right, It's a good stretch for both
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: of them, and when with double sessions, both of them
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: in pads. Hot days at Bryant College.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Yeah, the joint practices are the best, but the next
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: week or so there'll be a lot of padded practices.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Good opportunity. Unfortunately, the weather doing look great either, so
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: it'd be nice to get a hot day. I think
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: that'd be the next part the world. You have the
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: extended for a little bit extended forecast, you know, thanks
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: to our friends over there at the Weather Channel. But
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: we'll see how it plays out. I mean today you
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: thought it was going to get rained out and now
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: it looks fine.
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: But now this is a great take, especially once the
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: pads come on. Those first three days of practice and
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: a walk through, those are becoming thes We established the
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: kind of routine now under Mike Rabel. You're excited to
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: be there the first day, but you want to get
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: the pads, you want to get the joint practices, you
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: want to get the preseason, and then you're gonna want
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: to get to the regular season. So this is a
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: good next step to take.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: Yep, see Josh McDaniel's over there. So what do you
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: think this drill is that they're they're doing. It's just
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: sort of when things break down, kind of running through
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: the gauntlet.
- 1:03:50Speaker 15: I got to fully, I was tweeting it security in
- 1:03:55Speaker 15: the pocket, you know, and it's sort of moving around, yeah,
- 1:04:00Speaker 15: to off playform play extension, you know, scramble drill, play extension,
- 1:04:06Speaker 15: that type of stuff.
- 1:04:07Speaker 13: Like, so you see where Josh is like running at
- 1:04:10Speaker 13: him from certain angles. That's trying to simulate Oh if
- 1:04:12Speaker 13: it blitz off this side or that side, or up
- 1:04:14Speaker 13: the middle or whatever, you know, where are you're going
- 1:04:17Speaker 13: and do that sort of thing. So that Drake Mays
- 1:04:20Speaker 13: pro day, it was one of it was really unique.
- 1:04:22Speaker 13: I'd never seen that before where guys were literally running
- 1:04:25Speaker 13: full speed at him like they were blitzing him. And
- 1:04:27Speaker 13: then he was like, you know, coming out of the
- 1:04:30Speaker 13: back of the pocket, and so you could show off
- 1:04:32Speaker 13: the mobility and the play extension and stuff like that.
- 1:04:35Speaker 13: It was like they were trying to like simulate a
- 1:04:37Speaker 13: pass rush. It was pretty cool.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: Blond it if he got it, because he sure got it.
- 1:04:40Speaker 12: He sure does.
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: So we've been talking about this during the off season.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: Will they incorporate more design runs for Drake May this year?
- 1:04:49Speaker 12: Hi?
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: What do you think?
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: No inside the red zone and it's the same thing
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: we talked about last year. I think it's a good
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: change up. They used it against the Broncos in that
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: situation where you can get Drake to just walk in
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: the end zone and drip the ball down. Great, but
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: middle of the field running you know what they do
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: with Lamar Jackson. I don't I don't really see that.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: It's too dangerous to me, and he's too good throwing
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: the ball, especially downfield, like let him. I'd much rather
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: let him take shots down the field and you know,
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: try to dial up something or make them run through
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: and run through the line get tackled, and you know,
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: I don't want to get banged up.
- 1:05:19Speaker 13: Yeah, situationally, third and one fourth and one goal line
- 1:05:23Speaker 13: plays red zone like we saw against Buffalo, like we
- 1:05:26Speaker 13: saw against Denver. I think that can be really helpful.
- 1:05:28Speaker 13: But I don't necessarily see him as like a great
- 1:05:33Speaker 13: designed runner like Lamar Jackson you mentioned, you know, Lamar,
- 1:05:37Speaker 13: I don't really I think he's a scrambler, like I
- 1:05:39Speaker 13: think he's a play extender. I think he's a scrambler.
- 1:05:41Speaker 13: I think he's great, great scrambler, but I don't know
- 1:05:44Speaker 13: if he's necessarily that dynamic, you know, by design kind
- 1:05:48Speaker 13: of runner. So I don't anticipate seeing it a ton more.
- 1:05:52Speaker 13: But I think they could maybe dip their toe in
- 1:05:54Speaker 13: it a little bit more situationally and give you that
- 1:05:57Speaker 13: extra guy and put the defense in set of numbers
- 1:06:00Speaker 13: disadvantage by incorporating his legs.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: Well, I certainly hope they're telling him don't run, you know,
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: because when when you do have that quarterback threat to run,
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: it really, you know, gives the advantage to the offense,
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: and when and when you're successful doing it, it's so
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: deflating for a defense.
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: You know, everybody covered and then your quarterback runs. For
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: the first thing, I don't think.
- 1:06:24Speaker 13: They're stopping him from running in the drop back game
- 1:06:26Speaker 13: at all. I just think the question is is by
- 1:06:28Speaker 13: design is there going to be more runs or not
- 1:06:31Speaker 13: in the in the on the menu.
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: Option option runs.
- 1:06:35Speaker 13: Yes, Like you know, the point of this play is
- 1:06:37Speaker 13: the quarterback could run the ball. Now, when you drop
- 1:06:40Speaker 13: back and pass and scramble, that's not running by design.
- 1:06:43Speaker 13: So I I think that that's the scrambling element that
- 1:06:46Speaker 13: I think has to be in his repertoire.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: Okay, a'l Varrow from Spain, a couple of Spain emails
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: wants to ask a ball related question.
- 1:06:55Speaker 5: So I guess Evan's the only one that can't answer.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: That the show.
- 1:06:59Speaker 5: What do you think Occas's role will be in the defense.
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: Do you see him as an on ball standing outside
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: linebacker or is there a chance we might see him
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: in a Toby twenty twenty five role more like a
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: base off ball third linebacker the first one.
- 1:07:14Speaker 13: Yeah, he's to me, he's a peer on the ballplayer
- 1:07:17Speaker 13: and stand up edge rusher most likely probably could put
- 1:07:20Speaker 13: his hand in the dirt if they want to run
- 1:07:22Speaker 13: some of those you know, four man fronts that they do.
- 1:07:25Speaker 13: But he's he's an on the ball player. I didn't
- 1:07:27Speaker 13: really see him play a ton off the ball. He's
- 1:07:29Speaker 13: pretty big dude to be playing out in space like that,
- 1:07:32Speaker 13: I don't anticipate that.
- 1:07:33Speaker 12: So, no, he's going to be on the line. See ball,
- 1:07:36Speaker 12: get ball, you know, go after.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: I drop him out from time to time. You know,
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: I think that's a little bit of a change up
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: for them. But yeah, Evan's right. I think that's you know,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: what you see from from pondering those guys. They like
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: some versatility in them, some ability to drop out at
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: times when they're you know, trying to disguise blitzes and
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: send guys from the other side and that kind of thing.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: But I think he's a great fit for you know
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: what they did last year on defense, see how he
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: fits him with everybody else. I just you know, I
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: love his motor and that's the thing that I think
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: this defense. You know, I'm expecting when he gets out here,
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: he's going to you know, make some noise with how
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: he plays.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: All right, Liam and Suffolk has a question wants to know,
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: are there any ud fas that could make the roster
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: and if so, who are you looking at?
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: And why?
- 1:08:19Speaker 12: Tanna Acken.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the top one.
- 1:08:22Speaker 13: Yeah, Tanna Ark. And I'm excited to see him in pads.
- 1:08:24Speaker 13: He's been really involved and he's going to make the
- 1:08:27Speaker 13: team as a blocker, so you know, you got to
- 1:08:29Speaker 13: see him progress this time of year. But I think
- 1:08:32Speaker 13: that that's a guy that right now I would have
- 1:08:34Speaker 13: him on a fifty three man roster projection for sure.
- 1:08:37Speaker 13: I don't know who unless they want to go two
- 1:08:39Speaker 13: tight ends, I guess maybe with with Gilliam as the
- 1:08:42Speaker 13: full back. But if they're going to keep three, you know,
- 1:08:45Speaker 13: traditional tight ends, I think Arkin is on the team
- 1:08:47Speaker 13: right now.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Yeah. I keep an eye on Kyle Dixon. He hasn't
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: you know, done much here. He was pretty active though
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: in rookie mini camp, and I just I like him.
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: He's a bigger player. I think I don't think he's
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: going to make the team per se, but I think
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: he could have in side track to be at least
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: start out on the practice squad and be, you know,
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: that practice squad player, kind of like John Giles was
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: the last couple of years, where you need someone on
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: your roster who's big bodied and can kind of play
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: a part. I know that's probably not what people are
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: looking for. They want to see somebodyho's actually going to make
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: the team, but he could be a developmental guy down
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: the road that maybe he does eventually end up on
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: the roster.
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: Sometimes and I just look at I think Arkan's the
- 1:09:22Speaker 6: guy who, in terms of the reps with who he's
- 1:09:24Speaker 6: playing with is I think he's ticketed for the roster.
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: But I would look at linebackers just in general. I
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: don't know that I would pick one out yet because
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: I haven't necessarily seen, you know, a lot of reps
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: with guys other than you know, the Spallane and Ellis group.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: I haven't really seen a lot of guys rotating in
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: and out.
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: But there's there's a you know, with probably a room
- 1:09:47Speaker 6: on the roster for a guy, and maybe one of
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: the undrafted guys gets it. But Tanner Arkin, I think
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: is the probably the answer to the question.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: You mentioning big bodies before Duce, What do you think
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: of Vita Vea?
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I like him. I mean I think
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: he would definitely be a fit here. I just you know,
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: with the Gonzalez contract situation and then he's going to
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: want a new contract and you're gonna have to pay
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: Drake may too. I mean, no question he would fit
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: on this team. And you know, he's a good veteran
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: presence and all that kind of stuff. I mean, you're
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: kind of near the end, but I'm guessing he wants
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: another big deal while he can still get it. I
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: just don't know if the Patriots had the bandwidth right
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: now with what they have to make another big investment
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: along the defensive line when you know, really it's Barmore
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: and Milton Williams that are that are going to be
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: the straws during the drink.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: So there is Christian Gonzales and looks like he's in pads.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Yeah, sure it does.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: So the question is once they get into seven and
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: seven eleven eleven, will he be a full participant?
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, real quick, just to point it out,
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: the guy's got k ron Prunty right there next to
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: him and He's a guy that you know is buried
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: on the depth chart a corner, but you can see
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: in between the pie, you know, between the upright there,
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: you see he's got good size, like like Gonzalez does.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: And that's something to me that just kind of stands
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: out with the rookie. Another guy that you know, as
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: you have Carlton Davis out to other guys, Kendall Viildor,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: he's going to get some opportunities. I would guess we'll
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: keep an eye on proNT to see if he makes
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: any kind of a push.
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: But it is good to see Gonzales out there.
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: And yeah, yeah, for sure, sorry to hijack your your
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: thing there and talk about the instead of the star
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: cornerback the last pick of the draft.
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: That's okay, That's that's why we're special.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: That's you know, we are special. I do like nd.
- 1:11:25Speaker 12: I like the the body type.
- 1:11:27Speaker 13: You know, he's big, he's long, Scott Liking ridiculously long
- 1:11:31Speaker 13: arms for a cornerback, and you can see it, you know,
- 1:11:34Speaker 13: the on ball production in college, so you know, maybe
- 1:11:38Speaker 13: they there's something there to develop. I mean, I don't
- 1:11:40Speaker 13: know if it will be this year that he's going
- 1:11:42Speaker 13: to contribute maybe in a special teams role, but as
- 1:11:45Speaker 13: a guy that that they could develop either on the
- 1:11:47Speaker 13: practice squad or the fifty three.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: Yep, well it's those those late round cornerbacks like you know.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: He also right there have Kobe Minor and Marcellus Dial,
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: who's more of a slot guy. Uh. You know, at
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: some point you take these on these late round day
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: three picks. You hope that that one of these guys
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: maybe develops into you know, at least a special teams player.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: You know, you'll take that even if they're not going
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: to contribute on defense.
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: Norman Daytona Beach has a non football question, any idea
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: how many dogs were adopted from the opening day of
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: training camp dozen? My wife and I didn't already have four,
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: we would have seriously considered taking a trip to rescue one.
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: Truly heartbreaking to see dogs without homes. Thanks to the
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: Patriots organization for doing this. At last count I heard
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: this a few days ago.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: They were over thirty, so I think they have between
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: fifty and sixty here, So I mean cheap is yeah,
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: that's crazy though to think about an event thirty dogs
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: to get adopted, like you know, but now great stuff,
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: and I'm sure, we'll continue to.
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: I know, if I don't already have one, I would
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: have taken one.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you have your eye on one. Where is your dog?
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: Get jealous?
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: Those little pities?
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, Oh they're cute.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, so Paul Poplars dog.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: Paul.
- 1:13:00Speaker 12: Paul was close to adopting what he was.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: He was considering it.
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: Paul got bitten when he was a kid, and he
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: doesn't like dogs.
- 1:13:06Speaker 12: I got bit when I was a kid too, and
- 1:13:07Speaker 12: I started.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: I saw my sister get bitten in the face. It
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: was a little different. It's a little bit more traumatic.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: And if it was made that's bad. Yeah. Well, you know,
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: if you don't get making light of it though, no problem.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: If you don't get bitten as a kid, you're not
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: gonna get bit. What's it? What's the quote?
- 1:13:23Speaker 13: Yes, yeah, they don't bite his puppies. They won't fight
- 1:13:25Speaker 13: it as dogs.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: Oh right, right, So we got some contact going Freddie.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa? Who's that battle in fifty one? James, James,
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: you're gonna need a little help. Boom. Who's fifty one
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: on defense? Fifty one on def Oh that's the new guy,
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: that's Riley Wilson.
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: Wow, fifty one and fifty one love it?
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't like it. Fifty one on fifty one
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: crime Jami Swadson. Yeah, there's Terrell Williams. Of course to
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: look in the news. What is the associate head coach?
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: I think is that? What is it? What was the
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: exact role assistant head coach? The defensive coordinators at herr
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: out there He's gonna work Terrell.
- 1:14:02Speaker 13: Williams a lot with the defensive line. You see him
- 1:14:04Speaker 13: with the defensive spot, right yeah. I you know, there's
- 1:14:07Speaker 13: maybe some administrative stuff that very Able mentioned that he
- 1:14:10Speaker 13: would take on.
- 1:14:11Speaker 12: But this is his specialty right here, is working.
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: With the I'm talking about specially. I mean, this is
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: like verybel just he loves this stuff. Man, he loves
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: tangling with these guys getting in. I mean, that's some
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: thing I think that surprised me most about Mike Rabel
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: is just he seems to have a hand in everything.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: And you know, I just I was trying not to
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: make assumptions, but a defensive guy, you thought I'd be
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: around the linebackers a lot. But you know, in his
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: time as a coach in Ohio State and Houston, uh,
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: you know, in Tennessee. It seems like he's really developed
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: into a well rounded coach who can coach all positions.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: And I'm really interested about that journey for him, Like
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: because as a player, I would say, you know, you
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: might feel comfortable coaching the position you played. Everybody praised
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: Mike Brabel for his just overall football intelligence, But how
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: do you get to the point where you have confidence
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: to go to an offensive lineman and talk to them
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: about their SATs or their hand placement. You know, how
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: do you have the confidence to go, you know, to
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: a running back and talk about, you know, picking the
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: hole and all that kind of stuff. It's just really interesting.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: Great head coaches know the whole game inside and out,
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: and I think that, you know, inspires confidence in their
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: players that they know what they're talking about.
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: I was talking to somebody who's been with five different teams,
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: numerous head coaches, and he said that he thinks Rabel
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: is the most versatile, well rounded head coach he's ever been.
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: Yeah, and that doesn't really surprise me because of how
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: he was as a player. I mean, he played extensively
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: at multiple positions. He played, he played all different kinds
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: of linebacker, He used to play safety on a regular
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: basis in practice to torment Tom Braid, he played obviously
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: tight end, you know, in a very design you know,
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: specific design role. So the football part has What has
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: really surprised me about Mike rabel Is. I thought he
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: would be like what you just saw, like hands on guy.
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: He's gonna show technique, he's going to be a player.
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: He's going to come at it from a player's perspective,
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: and he's going to have that physicality in that MINDSETL.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Yeah, he's really administrative.
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: Yes, I think that he's the CEO type and I
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: did not expect that from my greeable. Even even watching
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: him in Tennessee, you don't get to see that on
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: a daily basis. I've been very surprised with how similar
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: he is to Belichick in that he is the head
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: of the football operation. He is the CEO of football,
- 1:16:31Speaker 6: and I wouldn't have necessarily pegged him for that.
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: As a player.
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: I mean, you talk about just versatility and well rounded
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: and I you know, I always tell the story after
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: the two thousand and three Super Bowl and we were
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: putting together three games to glory and we sat him
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: down in front of a monitor and.
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: He started giving us editing opinions, why did you do this?
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: We should do that? And like.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: He's got a well rounded mind, I think, and it's
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: perfe for being a head coach in the NFL because
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: it's not just about the x's and o's. It's about
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: when the buses are coming, when should the plane, league,
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: what hotels were staying at. I'm not saying he makes
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: all those decisions, but he's got to handle it and
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: he's got an opinion on it.
- 1:17:13Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:17:13Speaker 13: I think that's one thing Fred that surprises people that
- 1:17:17Speaker 13: are on the outside looking in about NFL head coaching
- 1:17:20Speaker 13: is how much non football there really is that goes
- 1:17:23Speaker 13: into that job, even press conferences, in dealing with the media,
- 1:17:27Speaker 13: you know, but all the logistical things that you talked about,
- 1:17:30Speaker 13: Like there's so much of that that like sometimes the
- 1:17:33Speaker 13: football is the easy part, like once they actually get
- 1:17:35Speaker 13: to go talk and get back into football. But I
- 1:17:38Speaker 13: think what surprised me the most about him is I
- 1:17:40Speaker 13: thought I knew he would be able to like be
- 1:17:42Speaker 13: a ra ra guy, and I knew he would be
- 1:17:44Speaker 13: able to rally the troops and give great speeches and
- 1:17:47Speaker 13: you know, lead the room and conduct the room. But
- 1:17:50Speaker 13: his football chops and his football acumen is you know,
- 1:17:54Speaker 13: I think it's better than a guy like like Dan Campbell.
- 1:17:57Speaker 13: Like I think Dan Campbell is what I'm described, And
- 1:18:00Speaker 13: I think they have such a perfect set up with
- 1:18:02Speaker 13: him and Josh McDaniels that McDaniels probably isn't going anywhere
- 1:18:07Speaker 13: anytime soon, and so they don't have to worry about
- 1:18:09Speaker 13: the play caller and the OC and that sort of thing.
- 1:18:12Speaker 13: So you can hire a coach that has that CEO
- 1:18:15Speaker 13: ability and not worry about the offense.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: It's kind of it's kind of fun too. In the
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: press conferences, he doesn't give you much, but he gives
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: you a little more than you got from Bill or
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: you know, or Drop May or even you know, those
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: kind of things. It shows, especially you know, Taylor questions
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: are those kind of things where you know, he gives
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: you enough to know that he knows a little bit
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: about everything and whether or not.
- 1:18:33Speaker 12: It's true, at least he.
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: Tries to show that he respects the people's.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: Jobs that are asking the question, right, you know, and
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: like whether or not he likes them or not, that's
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: not the question.
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: That's not what I'm talking about.
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: I think he understands their job and he respects that
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: and he may not always like what they're asking or whatever,
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: but that comes through that he respects the people on
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: the other side.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: You knew players of course, you know, respect Bill Belichick's
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: football knowledge. But you know, it's one thing to have
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: the football knowledge. But when you stand up there and
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: I know very Abel probably does this and say, you know,
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: I played in the Super Bowls, I had touchdown catches
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: I had said. You know, he has been there and
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: done everything there is to do, you know, in the
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: NFL on an NFL football field, and you know, to
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: capture the players, you know, respect. It just seems like
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: such a natural progression for him. It's it's it's been
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: really good. I'm excited to see what year two of
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: this program looks like because you hear a lot of
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: the same points. You know, he's kind of hitting on
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: the same points, and that to me, you know, establishes
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: he knows exactly what he wants the message to be.
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: You know, in training camp, earn a role, build a team.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: You know though those all those boxes that they're trying
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: to check, and it's it's it's coming together. Well, the
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: proof was in the putting last.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Just the running back tandem for the New England Patriots,
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: Stevenson and Henderson, they're.
- 1:19:50Speaker 12: They're just there is a list.
- 1:19:52Speaker 13: Yesterday, Ted Winn pulled a bunch of defensive coaches, defensive coordinators,
- 1:19:56Speaker 13: head coaches on the best offensive architects, play callers in
- 1:20:00Speaker 13: the league. And Josh McDaniels was eighth, but he was
- 1:20:03Speaker 13: the top OC, not head coach, play caller. So my guy,
- 1:20:06Speaker 13: Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay, Matt Lafleur, guys like that. Ben Johnson,
- 1:20:11Speaker 13: Josh was eighth, and I just think the tandem together
- 1:20:14Speaker 13: of him and Rabel is just it's one of the
- 1:20:17Speaker 13: best coaching like batteries that you could have in the NFL,
- 1:20:20Speaker 13: because you you have an OC that is really the
- 1:20:23Speaker 13: head coach of the offense, and you have some stability
- 1:20:27Speaker 13: there year to year that he's going to keep coming back,
- 1:20:29Speaker 13: and you let Rabel kind of do Rabel things. You know,
- 1:20:33Speaker 13: I would I wanted Ben Johnson a little bit because
- 1:20:35Speaker 13: I wanted a guy to be with Drake May for
- 1:20:37Speaker 13: the next ten years as his OCR and his play caller.
- 1:20:40Speaker 13: But they kind of got there in a roundabout way,
- 1:20:44Speaker 13: and now it really.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Makes the world of sense.
- 1:20:46Speaker 13: So you know, I thought it was telling that that
- 1:20:48Speaker 13: Josh McDaniels was the top oc on that list.
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: All right, well, we're coming to the end of the show.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: We're coming to the end of where we can film practice,
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: so I want to thank everyone for watching today, hanging
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: with us.
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: Just some administrative stuff.

- 1:21:16Speaker 5: Right, Is that the joint practice.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: No, no, that's not till next Tuesday. So yeah, we'll
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: be a week from Tuesday. Will be the joint practice
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: against the week from this.
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: Tuesday, Next Tuesday. Yeah, we're all right. Both shows next

- 1:21:33Speaker 2: of these, so be sure you know, the good stuff
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: is just about to get started. So we're sorry to
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: leave you now, but we'll be right back, you know,
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: shortly after practice with a full recap of all the
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: good stuff we're about to see.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: All right, So for everyone on the on the crew
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: and behind the scenes, thank you for watching.
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: We'll talk to you on Tuesday.
