One year after Deputy Elijah Ming’s tragic death in the line of duty, his sacrifice continues to echo across Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas. On July 26, 2025, Ming responded to a civil standby call near South 30th Street and Shawnee Drive, where he intervened when a man allegedly threatened a woman with a gun. Shot during the confrontation, Ming died from his injuries. A subsequent standoff ended with the suspect, Shawn Harris, wounded and arrested, now facing capital murder charges.
