- 0:00Has the associate coach of the Huskies. Chris Daily makes your twenty three,
- 0:04twenty four debut on the radio with the Daily Recap. Good evening, Miss
- 0:07Dailey, how are you? I'm great? Thanks good. What do you
- 0:10think of opening night? Oh? A lot of good things. You know,
- 0:15it's the first game, so a lot of it's getting some of the
- 0:18kinks out. But you know, we did some good things, things we've
- 0:22worked on. We did some dumb things and that's part of that's part of
- 0:27it game one. But you got a lot of depth. That's a good
- 0:29thing. Well, you know we've been able to it's so different even just
- 0:34waiting in line to come out on to warm up. There's so many more
- 0:38people online than remember last year, so it's kind of like whoa like there's
- 0:43a lot of them. So yeah, it definitely helps, gives us different
- 0:48different looks. We can do a lot of different things, so it's definitely
- 0:52going to be to our advantage. And some of that different looks to seem
- 0:56that the two two to one press that you're doing and did you had different
- 1:00options and it didn't seem whoever's in the front or the second row where there
- 1:03was the trapping and picking off was working pretty good together. Yeah, we
- 1:07we have a bunch of interchangeable parts. We don't have as much you know,
- 1:11size as you would like, but we've been able to mix up with
- 1:15Caroline and Aliyah and Aubrey trying to mix all that stuff up. So it's
- 1:22it's still a work in progress for sure. You know, we really have
- 1:26to concentrate on our rebounding. That's something that's going to be a concern for
- 1:30us all year and certainly going into NC State. They're a good team on
- 1:36the road. It's going to be a battle. It's going to be a
- 1:38battle. You have a nice mix of point guards between Nika, Page and
- 1:42KK and how the pace of the game just changes with all three of them
- 1:48and the way things get done. Yeah, the pace that we want it
- 1:53we don't really want. We've gotten into a habit maybe from last year,
- 1:57I don't know, of going back to get the ball instead of just pushing
- 2:00the pace all the time. And we have to do a better job with
- 2:01that. You know, we can't wait for it. Nika, KK and
- 2:06Page need to be on the move so that we can get into transition offense
- 2:09a little bit quicker. You don't want to we don't want to walk the
- 2:12ball up, so but each of them provide something different. And I don't
- 2:15think KK had her best night tonight. I think the second half she played
- 2:20better than the first half. But she's really got to be that energy that
- 2:23we get off the bench. Or she can change the game because she can
- 2:25defensively and offensively and not just from a scoring perspective, but more just pushing
- 2:30the pace and getting other people open. And you know, we need her
- 2:36to do that. Your second wave. I'm calling it that because I don't
- 2:38know, you know, you as you said, interchangeable pieces, didn't seem
- 2:43to skip a beat. Sometimes when the game gets out of hand, you
- 2:45see that the play falls off, but they seem to be just as hungry
- 2:49and you know, doing what you're looking for. Yes, make mistakes,
- 2:52but still seeming to execute what you're hoping to have. Yeah, I mean,
- 2:54I think we had a couple of you know, bad turnovers in the
- 2:58last two or three minutes, but overall our turnovers were low. I think
- 3:01we had what eight or eight game we had a four. We had four
- 3:06at halftime, I think, right, and I think three of them came
- 3:09late in the game, So we're taking doing a good job, but taking
- 3:13care of the basketball and getting good and getting shots. So, you know,
- 3:15we just want to make sure that I think that you know, every
- 3:19day I come here or every night or every after every game, it's going
- 3:22to be a rebounding issue. You know, are we keeping people off the
- 3:25glass? And whether it's Dayton, whether it's NC State, whether it's Southern
- 3:30Connecticut, we have to do a really good job. And then we've got
- 3:32to be really purposeful in that and intentional to it. It can't be just
- 3:38oh, I didn't get it, you know, because we're going to battle
- 3:40a lot of teams bigger than we are, So it's got to start here.
- 3:43Yeah, what's what's the identity of this team going to be? Like,
- 3:46I know you mentioned the sizes is an issue, but where do you
- 3:49think the identity of this team? We don't know. Maybe you know that
- 3:52that's one of the things that coach said before the game. Like last year,
- 3:54we knew what the identity of that team became and what it was that
- 3:59was a resilient See with all the things that we had gone through. This
- 4:01year, we don't know yet. The jury is still out and this every
- 4:05day they're going to make tell their own story and what that identity is going
- 4:10to be. I think it needs to be aggressive. I think it needs
- 4:14to be full out, you know, not one hundred miles an hour where
- 4:18you're going crazy, but push the pace constantly, an aggressive mentality. I
- 4:23think we're a good shooting team, you know. I think we're a really
- 4:26good shooting team. So getting open shots, I think we're willing. We're
- 4:30willing to make the extra pass. We had a bunch of possessions that started
- 4:33the game today with that one extra pass and knocking shots in. So those
- 4:38are right now what I think we can do well. We just have to
- 4:41keep improving. Got anything else? I don't know. I did such a
- 4:45great job. You are speechless? Is that it? Oh my? It's
- 4:48nice that you got a road heavy early schedule too, A lot of tests
- 4:53on the road is well start. Let's just say that it's nice that I
- 4:56don't do scheduling because there'll be a point during that road trip, like do
- 5:00you remember a couple of years ago when we played the USA team, Yes,
- 5:04and it was like I was in January, it was like sixteen nothing
- 5:08before we scored, and I did not schedule that coach did, and I
- 5:12remember sitting next him going, who thought this was? No? He said
- 5:15to me, who thought this was going to be a good idea? I
- 5:16said, you did, because I didn't say I didn't schedule it, And
- 5:20then we end up almost winning. But you know, scheduling is an important
- 5:25part, and we're going to be tested early and on the road. You
- 5:29only get you only find out where you are at that point. You don't
- 5:31mean to lose a championship then, but you find out a lot about yourself.
- 5:35So that's what we're going to do. There's a lot of good fresh
- 5:38but the goal is to win. Yes, there are a lot of good
- 5:41freshmen in the women's game. There are a lot of good players. So
- 5:45it'll be game to see. Yep, it'll be interesting to see. Always
- 5:47a pleasure to visit with you, coach, right, thanks for your time
- 5:49Sunday yep. Okay, Well, indeed, Chris Daly, the associate coach
- 5:54of the Huskies with us. We'll
