- Lucas: Hi everyone, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey, Lucas — last episode we did cuci and sapu, cleaning verbs. Today I'm hungry. Lucas: Perfect timing, because we're learning cooking verbs. Two really common ones: masak and rebus. Luna: Oh, I love cooking. So masak — is that 'cook'? Lucas: Exactly. Masak means 'cook'. Listen: masak. Luna: Masak. Lucas: Good. And rebus means 'boil'. Reb...us. Luna: Rebus. Like the word 'rebus' in English puzzles, but different. Lucas: Yeah, exactly. So let's use them. Repeat after me: Saya masak nasi. Luna: Saya masak nasi. I cook rice. Lucas: Perfect. Now: Saya rebus telur. Luna: Saya rebus telur. I boil eggs. Lucas: Great. Let's try with a different subject. Dia masak sup. Luna: Dia masak sup. She cooks soup. Lucas: And Kita rebus air. Luna: Kita rebus air. We boil water. Lucas: Nice. So you're getting the pattern. Now let's do a little scene. Imagine you're in the kitchen. You say: Saya rebus telur. Luna: Saya rebus telur. Lucas: And I'm cooking rice: Saya masak nasi. Luna: So if we're both cooking, we'd say 'Kita masak'? Lucas: Right. Kita masak. We cook. Or if you're boiling eggs and I'm cooking rice, you could say 'Saya rebus telur, awak masak nasi.' Luna: Awak masak nasi. I like that. Lucas: Let's practice all four phrases again. Repeat after me: Saya masak nasi. Luna: Saya masak nasi. Lucas: Saya rebus telur. Luna: Saya rebus telur. Lucas: Dia masak sup. Luna: Dia masak sup. Lucas: Kita rebus air. Luna: Kita rebus air. Lucas: Now let's try a quick quiz. How do you say 'I boil eggs'? Luna: Saya rebus telur. Lucas: Yes. And 'He cooks soup'? Luna: Dia masak sup. Lucas: Great. You're nailing this. If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Malay, we want to say — listener support is what keeps these episodes ad-free and coming. So let's keep going. Lucas, what about 'rebus' — can it also mean 'boil' for other things? Lucas: Yes, you can rebus almost anything — vegetables, pasta. But today we're sticking with our four. Let's do one more round. Saya masak nasi. Luna: Saya masak nasi. Lucas: Saya rebus telur. Luna: Saya rebus telur. Lucas: Dia masak sup. Luna: Dia masak sup. Lucas: Kita rebus air. Luna: Kita rebus air. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put it together in a mini conversation. I'll start: Saya masak nasi. Awak? Luna: Saya rebus telur. Lucas: Bagus! Excellent. So today we learned masak and rebus. Practice these by thinking about what you cook or boil at home. Say it in Malay. Luna: Yeah, I'm going to practice while making breakfast tomorrow. Thanks, Lucas. Lucas: Thanks for joining us. This is Learn Malay with Fexingo. See you next time! Luna: Selamat tinggal!
