Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We are out of the gates on Sporting State. It
- 0:03Speaker 1: is Hutton and Withrow and we are presented by Hard
- 0:06Speaker 1: Rock Bet. Chad Withrow, I'm Jonathan Hutton. Chad, good to
- 0:10Speaker 1: see you, brother.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Good to see you, Hutton. Good to be back here
- 0:12Speaker 2: on a Tuesday. September is here. We are out of
- 0:15Speaker 2: the dog days of August and we are now into
- 0:18Speaker 2: a legitimate.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Football month, so I'm pumped. You have your Crockett coffee
- 0:21Speaker 3: in front of you? I do.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I mean, is there a day that goes by that
- 0:25Speaker 2: I don't have my Crockett coffee in front of me?
- 0:26Speaker 3: I've got some coffee as well.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I've got a really good system now, Hutton, where because
- 0:31Speaker 2: yesterday I timed it poorly where I had to get
- 0:33Speaker 2: up like segment two to go get my second cup
- 0:36Speaker 2: of coffee.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:37Speaker 3: And today I've timed it.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Up where I just chugged the first cup of coffee.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Immediately before the show starts.
- 0:42Speaker 2: About 10 minutes before we go live, I go and
- 0:44Speaker 2: I pour my second cup of Crockett coffee.
- 0:47Speaker 3: And look at this.
- 0:48Speaker 2: My cup overfloweth as I talk to you right now
- 0:51Speaker 2: with cup number two.
- 0:52Speaker 1: My goal by the end of the week is I
- 0:53Speaker 1: have to look down to look at you. My goal
- 0:56Speaker 1: is to be able to look up here and look
- 0:57Speaker 1: at you the way you look at me.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I can see you beautifully out of this side eye
- 1:01Speaker 2: that I'm giving you right now in front of me.
- 1:04Speaker 2: And let me tell you, you look great. I hate
- 1:06Speaker 2: this look. I got to share a nice story last night.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I'm at the ballpark with my youngest daughter, Lucy. And
- 1:16Speaker 2: there's a mom that I once coached with years ago,
- 1:19Speaker 2: married to a singer-songwriter.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:22Speaker 3: So, you know, nice looking woman.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And walking around the park, and she just looks up
- 1:27Speaker 2: and sees me, and she goes, man, you're ripped to me.
- 1:31Speaker 2: And I was like, wow. I said, it must just
- 1:33Speaker 2: be the shirt doing a lot of heavy lifting here,
- 1:35Speaker 2: a lot of work. And she's like, no, no, no,
- 1:37Speaker 2: you've definitely been working out. You've definitely been working out.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Is this an episode of Tires? Thank you so much
- 1:43Speaker 3: for the confidence lift. Yeah, it's a secret shopper. I
- 1:48Speaker 3: felt like it was a secret shopper situation. I was like, oh, okay.
- 1:51Speaker 2: But I mean, just the first thing, it's not like, hey, hello,
- 1:54Speaker 2: how you doing?
- 1:54Speaker 3: How are the kids doing?
- 1:55Speaker 2: You're ripped.
- 1:56Speaker 3: It's like, hey, I appreciate that. Thank you. Thank you
- 1:59Speaker 3: to the mom at the ballpark last night. You're like
- 2:01Speaker 3: Will on tires getting the pump in.
- 2:03Speaker 2: My confidence is overflowing, but I'm sure that angry Titans
- 2:06Speaker 2: fans are going to put my confidence right back where
- 2:08Speaker 2: it needs to be, which we'll get into later.
- 2:11Speaker 1: They're not happy about I-ass. I told you, there's a
- 2:14Speaker 1: difference between we-ass and I-ass.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Everyone's just throwing... You know, cartwheels over we-ass and I-ass. No, no, no, no, no.
- 2:22Speaker 3: No I-ass.
- 2:23Speaker 2: How dare you claim he's not accountable? He's the most
- 2:26Speaker 2: accountable human being I've ever seen in my life. He
- 2:29Speaker 2: takes the blame for everything.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Oh, Titans are accountable, all right. We'll talk about it.
- 2:33Speaker 3: They're accountable for a lot of losses. We'll talk about
- 2:35Speaker 3: the response later.
- 2:36Speaker 1: They have nine regular season wins in 50 games.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 2: They're really owning those losses, that's for sure.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Win some games and win some respect. That's the way
- 2:46Speaker 1: I say it. And if you want some national televised games,
- 2:51Speaker 1: earn it. Yeah, well, look, we'll get into this coming up.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But I've got a message for Titans fans. And the
- 3:01Speaker 1: gist of the message will be DBAP. Also, I've got
- 3:05Speaker 1: a message for Lane Kiffin, Hutton. And my message for
- 3:08Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin is not DBAP, but don't.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Be an idiot. And DBAP.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And DBAP.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and a little bit of DBAP, too. So Lane
- 3:19Speaker 2: Kiffin yesterday.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Or SBAP. SBAP.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin yesterday in a press conference is talking about
- 3:26Speaker 2: his decision-making process on bringing back NFL players, and he's
- 3:30Speaker 2: discussing his conversation with his player leadership about if and
- 3:37Speaker 2: when and how they were going to make this move.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Here's Lane Kiffin.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Decisions. And probably not what most coaches do.
- 3:45Speaker 5: I feel like my decisions should always be made in
- 3:48Speaker 5: the best interest of the players that sit in this
- 3:50Speaker 5: team room. And not for my reputation and how the
- 3:56Speaker 5: decisions play in the national media or other fan bases.
- 3:59Speaker 5: I've never been that way, and that could be wrong.
- 4:01Speaker 5: It's probably part of my story why it is the
- 4:03Speaker 5: way it is. But those players and the people that
- 4:06Speaker 5: hire me always know he's constantly.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Trying to do the best thing for them.
- 4:09Speaker 5: So I struggled with it a lot. There's a lot
- 4:14Speaker 5: of factors into it and different things.
- 4:17Speaker 4: And one that.
- 4:19Speaker 5: I struggled too was, okay, this late, even though that's
- 4:22Speaker 5: what you do in the NFL.
- 4:24Speaker 4: And there's an argument. These players are paid like that.
- 4:26Speaker 5: And it's what happened yesterday.
- 4:28Speaker 4: In the NFL.
- 4:28Speaker 5: New players come in and take people's spots and add
- 4:31Speaker 5: it to rosters. And other guys have been there working.
- 4:34Speaker 5: So I met with our leadership committee of our players.
- 4:39Speaker 5: And I asked them, it's your team. What do you
- 4:42Speaker 5: want to do? if these players are allowed to be
- 4:47Speaker 5: added to.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Rosters, what do you want to do? And every one
- 4:50Speaker 4: of them was emphatic about, they can help us win,
- 4:54Speaker 4: bring them. And, you know, we.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Understand that, you know, we have a team that's practiced together,
- 5:00Speaker 5: worked together all offseason, but one of them said, hey,
- 5:04Speaker 5: this is how it works at the next level, and
- 5:06Speaker 5: this is how the real world works. And there aren't
- 5:09Speaker 5: days you can't bring employees in to, certain jobs.
- 5:13Speaker 4: To help the company.
- 5:15Speaker 5: So that made me feel a little better in the
- 5:18Speaker 5: struggle and being torn back and forth.
- 5:23Speaker 4: So we'll wait to hear for more guidance.
- 5:26Speaker 5: The SEC issued guidance in our question about that.
- 5:29Speaker 4: They'll follow court orders. And so we'll wait until this
- 5:33Speaker 4: week to see if there's any.
- 5:35Speaker 5: More guidance and the question of whether myself as the
- 5:39Speaker 5: head coach of football and will football follow SEC orders.
- 5:42Speaker 4: I said it earlier this morning when asked. Of course,
- 5:46Speaker 4: we will.
- 5:48Speaker 2: OK, we'll wait to see if there's any more guidance
- 5:51Speaker 2: from the SEC. The SEC has given all the guidance
- 5:55Speaker 2: they're going to. I mean, they have stated they held
- 5:57Speaker 2: an emergency meeting of all the school presidents to vote
- 6:00Speaker 2: on this. They unanimously voted saying this is wrong. We
- 6:04Speaker 2: are going to fight this hard. There's going to be
- 6:06Speaker 2: major ramifications, including being suspended for half a season, vacating wins.
- 6:13Speaker 2: They've spoken, Lane.
- 6:15Speaker 3: You're not waiting on guidance from the SEC.
- 6:17Speaker 2: The SEC has given you their stance on this. You
- 6:19Speaker 2: are waiting on one local court to say whether or
- 6:22Speaker 2: not you can go break the rules that have been
- 6:25Speaker 2: set by the SEC. That's what's going on here. This
- 6:28Speaker 2: guy twisted himself into about five different pretzels. on this thing, Hutton.
- 6:32Speaker 2: He's very tortured over the decision, right? But he was
- 6:35Speaker 2: thrilled that his players really let him off the hook
- 6:38Speaker 2: by saying, yes, coach, please.
- 6:40Speaker 3: We want to be in the workforce right now. Let's
- 6:42Speaker 3: break this down.
- 6:44Speaker 1: He's really torn over this decision, but man, he could
- 6:47Speaker 1: walk away from a national championship caliber team at Ole Miss. Man,
- 6:51Speaker 1: he could really torn over that one, Lane. You wanted
- 6:54Speaker 1: to do both. That's what he's torn over. He's not
- 6:57Speaker 1: torn over one or the other. He wants to do both.
- 7:00Speaker 1: He wants to act like he's with the SEC and
- 7:03Speaker 1: then also bring in former NFL players.
- 7:06Speaker 3: And of course his.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Leadership, this is your team. Of course the leadership team
- 7:10Speaker 1: is going to be like, yeah, whatever helps this team win.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Because their asses aren't on the line. His leadership team
- 7:15Speaker 1: isn't going to be replaced. So of course they're going
- 7:19Speaker 1: to be like, yeah, let's.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Make this team better. Because they have nothing to lose.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Zilch to lose. Yeah, you're right.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Did he go ask the player who now is not
- 7:29Speaker 2: going to start because of this? Did he go ask
- 7:31Speaker 2: the second stringer who now is never.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Going to see any time over this?
- 7:35Speaker 1: Because that scrub for LSU is not worthy of being asked.
- 7:39Speaker 3: He's under the leadership council.
- 7:41Speaker 2: I mean, and I love how it's like, hey, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 2: some would argue these guys are making what NFL guys are.
- 7:46Speaker 3: So, boy, I'm just really cutting edge here.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I'm going to go ahead and get them ready for
- 7:49Speaker 2: the NFL by cutting their ass, even though they've been
- 7:51Speaker 2: here the whole time. By the way, the players that
- 7:53Speaker 2: we're talking about that are really on the chopping block,
- 7:55Speaker 2: Probably aren't making much at all. If anything, they're on
- 7:58Speaker 2: the bottom of the roster. They're the ones who suffer
- 8:00Speaker 2: from this. They're the ones who were there through summer
- 8:03Speaker 2: conditioning and workouts, through spring practice, through everything else that
- 8:06Speaker 2: have been with you the whole time. Steve Sarkeesian even
- 8:09Speaker 2: came back and said it's immoral. You know, he went
- 8:12Speaker 2: as far as to say it's not the morally right
- 8:14Speaker 2: thing to do to your team and players that have
- 8:16Speaker 2: been there the whole time, but he's adamantly against it.
- 8:19Speaker 2: And Lane Kiffin is standing up there saying it's a
- 8:21Speaker 2: mix of, you know, everybody who's employed me knows that
- 8:24Speaker 2: this guy's going to do whatever he can to help
- 8:26Speaker 2: the team win. I'm thinking you're doing whatever you can
- 8:29Speaker 2: to make you look good by winning games.
- 8:31Speaker 3: That's what you're doing.
- 8:32Speaker 2: You're not helping your team per se when you do this.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You're not asking the entire team what they want to do.
- 8:38Speaker 2: You're asking some guys who are already leaders and starters
- 8:41Speaker 2: in this team that their position's not affected by bringing
- 8:44Speaker 2: in these guys. And I'll also just ask the question, like,
- 8:48Speaker 2: is it worth it? right now for the players we're
- 8:51Speaker 2: talking about, I mean, are they going to make this
- 8:53Speaker 2: big of a difference? We know they're going to make
- 8:55Speaker 2: a difference or Kiffin wouldn't be doing it, right? Are
- 8:57Speaker 2: they going to make that big of a difference to
- 8:59Speaker 2: continue this?
- 9:00Speaker 1: The difference is, are there going to be a better team?
- 9:02Speaker 3: Are they? And the answer is yes. Yes.
- 9:04Speaker 1: So, so if the, if the question is, is it
- 9:06Speaker 1: worth it? The value is the value of that worth is,
- 9:11Speaker 1: is this going to make us a better team? So yes,
- 9:14Speaker 1: it's worth it if you're looking at it like that.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And that's how they're looking at it.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:19Speaker 2: It's, um, It's wild to me, though, that Kiffin would
- 9:22Speaker 2: continue to go down this path. I'm watching the television
- 9:26Speaker 2: over here. I'm watching the news today because I'm waiting
- 9:28Speaker 2: for any minute. We're two days from that hearing on Thursday,
- 9:33Speaker 2: but I'm almost waiting for any minute for LSU to
- 9:36Speaker 2: just completely stand out and say, we're going to abide
- 9:38Speaker 2: by the SEC rule regardless of what.
- 9:40Speaker 3: The court says.
- 9:41Speaker 1: But that was my thing last week, Chad. What's the endgame?
- 9:45Speaker 1: What is the endgame for LSU? Because we can go
- 9:48Speaker 1: back for a while here where they didn't stand down.
- 9:52Speaker 1: And by the way, Greg Sankey didn't stand up either
- 9:55Speaker 1: whenever they were diving in going headfirst after Lane Kiffin
- 9:59Speaker 1: last year. in the middle of Ole Miss' historic run.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That's whenever you and I were asking the question, where's
- 10:04Speaker 1: Greg Sankey? Where's the Southeastern Conference? Because he'll tell Jimbo
- 10:10Speaker 1: Fisher and Nick Saban to pipe down.
- 10:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Well, look, the big question now is, well, two things
- 10:17Speaker 2: for me. One, will they stand down, LSU I'm talking about?
- 10:20Speaker 2: If not, what does this mean legally, and what are
- 10:23Speaker 2: the chances that the SEC is going to win this
- 10:25Speaker 2: on Thursday or win this long term? Tom Maher is
- 10:29Speaker 2: the guy that we've had on the show that I
- 10:31Speaker 2: follow a lot for all of this, and he does
- 10:33Speaker 2: a good job of explaining it in layman's terms about
- 10:37Speaker 2: what to expect on Thursday. And he spoke on this case.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Here is Tom Maher discussing it. the legal ramifications and
- 10:44Speaker 2: maybe what we can expect from SEC versus LSU.
- 10:48Speaker 6: SEC is going to win this case. I don't think
- 10:51Speaker 6: there's any question about it. The judge in the Baton
- 10:54Speaker 6: Rouge case is going to be under immense political pressure
- 11:00Speaker 6: to rule in favor of the plaintiffs. There's no doubt
- 11:03Speaker 6: about that. But that's not necessarily going to be true
- 11:07Speaker 6: at the next level, the Louisiana Court of Appeals. Why?
- 11:12Speaker 6: Because they're elected to 10-year terms, whereas district judges are
- 11:18Speaker 6: elected to six-year terms. And appellate judges, whether they're in
- 11:25Speaker 6: Louisiana or Montana or Arkansas, they are different than district judges.
- 11:33Speaker 6: They are obsessed about the law, following the law, and
- 11:37Speaker 6: they know that, in this case, the people of Louisiana
- 11:40Speaker 6: expect them to apply the evidence and the law. And
- 11:45Speaker 6: there's one other thing that's unique about Louisiana courts. The
- 11:50Speaker 6: Court of Appeals in Louisiana can review the facts, the evidence,
- 11:55Speaker 6: the facts in the record and the law, whereas in
- 12:00Speaker 6: almost every other state, the Court of Appeals has to
- 12:02Speaker 6: give great deference to the trial judge's findings of fact.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Not so in Louisiana.
- 12:16Speaker 3: There you have it, Hutt.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Tom Mars thinks the SEC has got the case and
- 12:21Speaker 2: that they're going to win this. And he gives the
- 12:23Speaker 2: breakdown of different judges and who's to 10-year and who's
- 12:25Speaker 2: 6-year because, let's face it, Louisiana's corrupt when we're talking
- 12:29Speaker 2: about this. And it comes down to political pressure also
- 12:33Speaker 2: on siding with the native LSU Tigers.
- 12:36Speaker 3: In a lot of this.
- 12:36Speaker 2: But bottom line is, is it really worth it to
- 12:39Speaker 2: just go to war with your own conference? the way
- 12:42Speaker 2: it seems like LSU and Lane Kiffin's willing to do.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Well, they're willing to go to war, but they're also
- 12:47Speaker 1: willing to stand down. They're playing both sides. This is
- 12:50Speaker 1: exactly what Lane Kiffin does. And I thought Dallas, I
- 12:54Speaker 1: thought we looked into this. This is a Texas judge
- 12:56Speaker 1: that put in another RPO.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Yeah, look. He's talking about Louisiana. Louisiana.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Thursday's in Louisiana, I think is what he's talking about.
- 13:08Speaker 2: So this is the next big showdown.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But isn't there another court that has already ruled on
- 13:14Speaker 1: this too?
- 13:15Speaker 2: The TRO, so a temporary restraining order was granted in
- 13:18Speaker 2: Texas for these players saying that conferences and the NCAA
- 13:23Speaker 2: can't do anything to them if the school decided to
- 13:27Speaker 2: roster these players. Now the next process is in Louisiana,
- 13:31Speaker 2: and that's on Thursday. I don't know if it's the
- 13:33Speaker 2: next appeal.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Or what it is.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Bottom line is, it's Thursday morning, there's a showdown coming.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, yeah. The SEC has sought outside counsel. Specifically, though.
- 13:42Speaker 3: By in-house lawyers.
- 13:43Speaker 2: These are outside counsel coming in to fight LSU. And
- 13:47Speaker 2: Tom Mars, who I respect his legal opinion, is saying
- 13:49Speaker 2: there's no doubt in his mind that the SEC is
- 13:51Speaker 2: going to win this case. Now, there's going to be
- 13:54Speaker 2: different layers to this in a Louisiana court of appeals,
- 13:58Speaker 2: is what he's.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Saying, as opposed to it.
- 14:00Speaker 2: But that the SEC ultimately will win this case based
- 14:03Speaker 2: on merit. of their ability to punish or levy penalties, suspensions,
- 14:09Speaker 2: whatever it may be, for voluntary members of their organization.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And that's where we get to this, and this is
- 14:16Speaker 2: Ross Dellinger's reporting, but he's reporting, he's spoken to multiple
- 14:20Speaker 2: presidents at SEC schools that they're legitimately talking about kicking
- 14:24Speaker 2: LSU out of the SEC if they continue.
- 14:27Speaker 3: To get on this road. Sure they are. Sure they are.
- 14:30Speaker 4: LSU.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Sure they are.
- 14:32Speaker 1: But let's also say, LSU, they're trying to be the
- 14:37Speaker 1: anti-hero instead of the villain. And Kiffin, by the way,
- 14:41Speaker 1: SEC's doing the exact same thing Lane Kiffin's doing, by
- 14:43Speaker 1: the way. Lane Kiffin's standing up there and saying, you know,
- 14:48Speaker 1: we'll abide by guidance and, you know, I'm doing the
- 14:50Speaker 1: best thing.
- 14:50Speaker 3: For blah, blah, blah.
- 14:52Speaker 1: The SEC also put down these strict guidelines and rules,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and then they back down, acting like they're backing down,
- 14:58Speaker 1: but they're really going to crank back up. So they're
- 15:02Speaker 1: doing the same thing, trying to look like they're doing
- 15:05Speaker 1: everything by the book going into Thursday. And then once
- 15:08Speaker 1: Thursday hits, one side wins, one side loses. But then again,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I think, what if another court comes down and says
- 15:15Speaker 1: that it's wide open?
- 15:18Speaker 2: Again, I go back to, if that's the case, why
- 15:22Speaker 2: would you even continue to do it? Because it's going
- 15:24Speaker 2: to continue going down the legal system. And if you
- 15:27Speaker 2: lose the ultimate case, you are really risking a lot
- 15:30Speaker 2: by playing those three guys because the SEC, if they
- 15:32Speaker 2: end up winning, even if they lose these little battles
- 15:35Speaker 2: in court and they lose temporary restraining orders and all that,
- 15:38Speaker 2: if they win, you've screwed your season over if you're LSU.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Okay, but what did Alabama lose by playing the G
- 15:46Speaker 3: League player?
- 15:49Speaker 2: Well, they didn't lose anything other than the player eventually.
- 15:52Speaker 2: He wasn't eligible.
- 15:53Speaker 3: But he did play.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 3: But he did play. Yeah, he played. And then he
- 15:59Speaker 3: was ruled ineligible.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Look, I think ultimately this is now— I'm saying not
- 16:05Speaker 1: play the player. I'm saying what they've done right now
- 16:08Speaker 1: hasn't overstepped any boundaries or rules. Because right now the
- 16:12Speaker 1: SEC doesn't have any.
- 16:14Speaker 2: They have rules. The SEC has rules against playing NFL players.
- 16:18Speaker 2: And they reaffirmed those rules by saying that. They are
- 16:22Speaker 2: stepping aside of SEC rules, but the argument is they're
- 16:25Speaker 2: complying with a court order, so the SEC rules don't matter.
- 16:30Speaker 3: If the SEC continues to fight it... And that's what
- 16:33Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Because the SEC rules don't matter right now until Thursday
- 16:38Speaker 1: if the court says so. If not, then LSU's setting
- 16:42Speaker 1: themselves up to do it. But if the court steps
- 16:46Speaker 1: in and says, we're excited with the SEC, then... Kiffin's
- 16:49Speaker 1: already protected himself by saying, well, we're going to wait
- 16:51Speaker 1: for further guidance.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Kiffin doing this, if you're LSU and you're backing Kiffin
- 16:56Speaker 2: at this point, I just think you're stupid.
- 16:58Speaker 3: I just don't think any of this.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I don't think any of this is worth it, is
- 17:02Speaker 2: the point that I'm making.
- 17:03Speaker 3: You were pitting yourself against your own conference. What is
- 17:08Speaker 3: the endgame for LSU? Not Kiffin.
- 17:10Speaker 1: What was the endgame for LSU, who from top to bottom,
- 17:13Speaker 1: from basketball, in both men's and women's basketball, to football,
- 17:17Speaker 1: what's the endgame for LSU and the SEC? That was
- 17:20Speaker 1: my question last week, because it's not just a Lane-Kiffin-led
- 17:25Speaker 1: deal here. This is coming from the governor.
- 17:28Speaker 3: It started there.
- 17:31Speaker 1: What is their endgame when it comes to the conference,
- 17:34Speaker 1: which is a question you're asking?
- 17:35Speaker 2: The endgame, according to Ross Dellinger, is the conference might
- 17:38Speaker 2: kick them out if they continue to do this and
- 17:40Speaker 2: go completely rogue. And look, LSU has value. LSU doesn't
- 17:44Speaker 2: make the SEC. There's plenty of teams that would love
- 17:47Speaker 2: to jump in and join the SEC that could also
- 17:49Speaker 2: give them value. We're going to get into some that
- 17:52Speaker 2: could possibly do that. I don't think LSU is getting
- 17:55Speaker 2: kicked out of the conference over this because I think
- 17:58Speaker 2: at some point a school president– Or someone's going to
- 18:00Speaker 2: step in and say, guys, we've got multiple sports here.
- 18:03Speaker 2: We've got a long-standing relationship with the conference. We're not
- 18:06Speaker 2: going to bend everything for these three players or four
- 18:10Speaker 2: players or however much it ends up being. It's just
- 18:12Speaker 2: simply not worth it. I'm counting down the clock now
- 18:16Speaker 2: to either tomorrow's hearing or sometime today where LSU comes
- 18:20Speaker 2: back and says we're not going to do it. Even
- 18:22Speaker 2: with Kiffin's voice yesterday in that press conference we played, Hutt,
- 18:26Speaker 2: I hear a guy who is defensive and a little
- 18:30Speaker 2: bit defeated in the end when he has to end
- 18:32Speaker 2: everything with, but yeah, of course we'll follow the SEC
- 18:35Speaker 2: rules on it.
- 18:36Speaker 1: He sounds like the same coach last week that went
- 18:38Speaker 1: on with Chris Childers on SiriusXM and said the same thing.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I mean, he's playing both sides, just like both sides
- 18:45Speaker 1: are playing either side right now, where one's back down
- 18:48Speaker 1: waiting on the court and the other's doing the same thing.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Well, the SEC has to wait on the court. They
- 18:54Speaker 2: have no option there. They've given their stance and said,
- 18:57Speaker 2: we're still going to try to enforce the rules.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Of course they have to wait.
- 19:02Speaker 1: And Kiffin doesn't have to wait right now because the
- 19:05Speaker 1: court has stepped in.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Until tomorrow. Or sorry, Thursday. Right. But then again, the
- 19:12Speaker 3: court could also rule with the player. Right.
- 19:16Speaker 2: And then it's on LSU to make the decision. Are
- 19:18Speaker 2: these three guys worth... Completely disrupting a relationship with an
- 19:24Speaker 2: entire league.
- 19:24Speaker 3: So the SEC would then go against the court. By
- 19:26Speaker 3: the way, the.
- 19:27Speaker 2: SEC's already played, I'm sorry, LSU's already violated this by
- 19:30Speaker 2: playing two soccer players. Two women soccer players have been
- 19:34Speaker 2: playing professionally. So they were the first to do this.
- 19:36Speaker 2: They did it this past week. Okay, so therein lies
- 19:39Speaker 2: my point. What is LSU's endgame? It's not about Kiffin.
- 19:42Speaker 1: It's the entire, and I would also say, so the
- 19:47Speaker 1: SEC would go against the court ruling? and enforce some
- 19:51Speaker 1: kind of punishment?
- 19:52Speaker 2: Let me say this for LSU and just throw this
- 19:54Speaker 2: possibility out there. Maybe they're just not that smart. That's
- 19:58Speaker 2: also possible. I don't know of any other school in
- 20:02Speaker 2: the conference that would continue to fight it to this level.
- 20:05Speaker 2: I know the example of Charles Bediako and Nate Oates.
- 20:09Speaker 2: At Alabama. But I feel like at the University of Alabama,
- 20:12Speaker 2: if the SEC came back and said, we're going to
- 20:14Speaker 2: continue fighting this in court, and I don't care how
- 20:17Speaker 2: long it takes, but when we get our desired ruling
- 20:19Speaker 2: on Betty Occo, which they eventually did, if you were
- 20:22Speaker 2: in violation of this rule, we will kick your ass
- 20:25Speaker 2: out of the SEC.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Everybody there. I feel like Alabama then would have stepped aside.
- 20:30Speaker 3: But there was no retroactive punishment.
- 20:33Speaker 1: So if LSU, until they're ruled ineligible.
- 20:38Speaker 3: They're not.
- 20:40Speaker 1: That's what Kiffin is saying. He goes, I'm waiting on
- 20:42Speaker 1: further guidance here, but I'm going to do what's best
- 20:43Speaker 1: for my team.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I would argue, though, even if the further guidance is
- 20:48Speaker 2: they're eligible, the SEC has said they're not eligible in
- 20:52Speaker 2: this conference.
- 20:52Speaker 3: No one in the Big Ten is trying to add
- 20:54Speaker 3: these guys.
- 20:55Speaker 1: As of right now, they're waiting on a court to
- 20:58Speaker 1: tell them that.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I totally understand.
- 21:00Speaker 2: My point is, even if they say they're eligible, it's
- 21:03Speaker 2: still LSU's decision to They don't have to roster these players.
- 21:07Speaker 2: They don't have to go against the guy. The guidance
- 21:09Speaker 2: of the SEC is clear. These players aren't eligible. You
- 21:12Speaker 2: can't play them. So then LSU is still going to
- 21:15Speaker 2: have to say, but the court says this. So even
- 21:18Speaker 2: though my conference says that they could go play for
- 21:20Speaker 2: another conference or another team, but I'm going to take
- 21:23Speaker 2: it upon me to roster these players. You have to
- 21:26Speaker 2: ask what is the long-term damage of that if there's
- 21:29Speaker 2: any at all.
- 21:29Speaker 3: With the SEC.
- 21:31Speaker 1: I would just ask the question, does the SEC want
- 21:33Speaker 1: to continue to get sued by players that are winning
- 21:35Speaker 1: in courts?
- 21:37Speaker 3: Like the NCAA is. That's really what they're trying to avoid.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Because, forgive me for forgetting, the SEC didn't come up
- 21:45Speaker 1: with these rules until they followed and echoed whatever the
- 21:47Speaker 1: Big Ten was doing.
- 21:50Speaker 3: They were waiting on federal guidelines. Last I checked.
- 21:54Speaker 4: Look.
- 21:56Speaker 3: There's two things here.
- 21:57Speaker 2: The Big Ten and the SEC have been consistently against
- 21:59Speaker 2: adding NFL players. Neither one of them want this or
- 22:03Speaker 2: think it's good for the sport. They're against it. The
- 22:05Speaker 2: difference in the statements were the SEC came out first
- 22:09Speaker 2: but said this is against SEC bylaws. It's against everything
- 22:13Speaker 2: we stand for, and it's another reason why we need
- 22:15Speaker 2: to pass the Protect College Sports Act in Congress.
- 22:18Speaker 3: That's what they said, right?
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yesterday I said, ultimately, it goes back to that. It
- 22:24Speaker 1: almost feels like a setup to try to point to
- 22:27Speaker 1: that and get this passed.
- 22:29Speaker 2: That was the first statement. The Big Ten came out
- 22:31Speaker 2: stronger and said they can't play in the Big Ten.
- 22:33Speaker 2: And the schools are going to be punished severely if
- 22:36Speaker 2: they try to roster these players. Then the SEC called
- 22:38Speaker 2: an emergency meeting of presidents, got together later that night
- 22:42Speaker 2: and said, we're just like the Big Ten. They can't
- 22:44Speaker 2: do it here either. And here are the punishments. And
- 22:46Speaker 2: then the punishments came out later. Which LSU voted yes for. Yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 2: I think the SEC took longer to get to the
- 22:51Speaker 2: right decision because they were A little bit forced by
- 22:54Speaker 2: the Big Ten because the Big Ten was so strong
- 22:55Speaker 2: against it.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Yes.
- 22:56Speaker 2: But consistently both, they don't want this to happen. It's
- 23:00Speaker 2: not like the SEC said, we're okay with it. Screw you,
- 23:03Speaker 2: Big Ten. Then the Big Ten said, we're against it.
- 23:05Speaker 2: We're not going to allow it. And then the SEC
- 23:07Speaker 2: changed course. They've all been against it. They were just
- 23:09Speaker 2: against it to different levels until the Big Ten made
- 23:12Speaker 2: that announcement.
- 23:13Speaker 1: So LSU's not getting kicked out of the SEC. But
- 23:15Speaker 1: if they were, which program would it be? That's next
- 23:19Speaker 1: on Hutton to Withrow. We are presented by Hard Rock Bet.

- 24:24Speaker 3: Great to be partnered with Hard Rock Bet all season long.
- 24:27Speaker 3: All right, Chad.
- 24:28Speaker 1: So if LSU wants to go solo, they want to
- 24:31Speaker 1: go out on their own. They want to play their
- 24:34Speaker 1: NFL players and play their NWSL players.
- 24:41Speaker 3: And whoever else they want. You've been thinking about who
- 24:46Speaker 3: the SEC may be going after.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Fantasy draft here, right? I'm with you. I do not
- 24:51Speaker 2: think it's going to rise to that level. Certainly, there's
- 24:54Speaker 2: got to be someone that's smart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I haven't found the person yet, but there's got to
- 24:58Speaker 2: be at.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Least one person. And the SEC office, by the way.
- 25:00Speaker 3: You know, guys, we're not going to do this. We're
- 25:03Speaker 3: not going to continue on.
- 25:04Speaker 2: And if the SEC office was smart, they would kick
- 25:06Speaker 2: their ass out, and I hope that they do.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Because there's only one program that I think I would
- 25:12Speaker 1: even consider trading for right now.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Oh, look, the LSU needs the SEC more than the
- 25:17Speaker 2: SEC needs LSU. There's no doubt who has the power here.
- 25:21Speaker 2: The SEC has brands like Texas and Alabama and A & M.
- 25:26Speaker 2: LSU is a strong brand. Florida, Georgia, go down the list.
- 25:30Speaker 2: But every other program in America would die. They would
- 25:35Speaker 2: crawl on broken glass from their current place if you're.
- 25:38Speaker 3: In the ACC to get to the SEC. Oh, sure, sure, sure.
- 25:42Speaker 4: ACC, yes.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Yes.
- 25:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Now the one brand that would be a huge trade up,
- 25:48Speaker 2: I think for the sec would be Notre Dame.
- 25:51Speaker 3: That's my pick.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I don't, I think Notre Dame wants to be independent.
- 25:53Speaker 3: We'll go ahead.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Tell us about Notre Dame.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Well, Notre Dame is the, is above LSU in my hierarchy. Uh,
- 26:01Speaker 1: if you're, if you're going to, if you're kicking out LSU,
- 26:03Speaker 1: you want to give the middle finger to them. Uh,
- 26:05Speaker 1: why not raise the entire bar and take away something
- 26:08Speaker 1: from the big 10 as well? That's what, that's what
- 26:11Speaker 1: I would be doing. I would, I would take from
- 26:12Speaker 1: the Big Ten and I would kick LSU's ass out.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I would win both. So I would go after Notre Dame.
- 26:19Speaker 1: I can't think of a program right now that does
- 26:21Speaker 1: both other than that.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Yeah, Notre Dame would be great. The realistic options, I think,
- 26:27Speaker 2: that would crawl to the SEC right now. North Carolina,
- 26:31Speaker 2: really good brand, really good basketball brand also. Better basketball brand,
- 26:35Speaker 2: which now is very profitable. Not as profitable as football,
- 26:37Speaker 2: but very profitable. Better than LSU in basketball. strong baseball team,
- 26:43Speaker 2: if that matters to anyone, just like LSU.
- 26:45Speaker 3: But they've got a good program also.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I think North Carolina would make the most sense from
- 26:50Speaker 2: a brand awareness standpoint in the ACC. I've always thought
- 26:54Speaker 2: if you're just looking at who's the most SEC in
- 26:57Speaker 2: the ACC and how they value sports and how they
- 27:01Speaker 2: look at football, it's probably Clemson and Florida State in
- 27:04Speaker 2: some order. Jacob Lutz before the show brought up Miami
- 27:08Speaker 2: as another option for the SEC.
- 27:10Speaker 3: I think all makes sense.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Just North Carolina to me, like Notre Dame is a
- 27:14Speaker 2: national brand with a Catholic church and you're getting a
- 27:18Speaker 2: lot more there with that.
- 27:19Speaker 3: So they would be number one. Worldwide brand. Yeah.
- 27:21Speaker 2: And North Carolina is more, everybody talks about what are
- 27:26Speaker 2: you gaining that you didn't already have? I don't know
- 27:29Speaker 2: that you gain much at Florida state or Miami, given
- 27:32Speaker 2: that you're already in the state of Florida with Florida.
- 27:35Speaker 2: I do think you gain a lot in the state
- 27:36Speaker 2: of North Carolina where currently there.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Is no SEC team.
- 27:39Speaker 2: And call me old-fashioned, but I like the fact that
- 27:41Speaker 2: it remains a conference where all the schools and states
- 27:45Speaker 2: are connected and you're not skipping over to California or
- 27:48Speaker 2: skipping over to Arizona or another state for a team.
- 27:51Speaker 2: So I think North Carolina, probably Clemson after that, Florida
- 27:55Speaker 2: State after that. On the other, the outsider that I
- 27:57Speaker 2: would put in there, probably another school that would go
- 28:00Speaker 2: rogue like an LSU and violate league rules at some point.
- 28:03Speaker 3: If you let them in.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Texas Tech is one out of the Big 12 that
- 28:09Speaker 2: you keep in the state of Texas. But, I mean,
- 28:11Speaker 2: that's a program that is spending big on football.
- 28:15Speaker 1: To me, it's also about which of the schools are
- 28:19Speaker 1: you adding that do you want in your super conference?
- 28:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the super conference, those schools are getting
- 28:26Speaker 2: added regardless that we just mentioned, I believe. Because they're
- 28:30Speaker 2: going to be the exceptions in those other conferences that
- 28:33Speaker 2: don't have.
- 28:33Speaker 3: To stay back.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I guess Carolina. I'm talking about football. I don't know
- 28:38Speaker 1: if Carolina's there.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Carolina, I think, for football would be there just because, again,
- 28:44Speaker 2: of the brand. But, yeah, I mean, from a history standpoint, no.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Not compared to LSU. LSU would be in that super conference.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Oh, for sure.
- 28:52Speaker 2: And, look, if a super conference happened, even if LSU
- 28:54Speaker 2: got kicked out of the SEC, it wouldn't ultimately matter
- 28:56Speaker 2: because they'd be in the super conference.
- 28:58Speaker 3: And I think it's happening, though. I think we're headed
- 28:59Speaker 3: towards that.
- 29:00Speaker 2: I think football is headed more towards that for sure.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I think you could just combine the Big Ten and
- 29:05Speaker 2: the SEC and allow them to vote in whoever they
- 29:08Speaker 2: want on the outside.
- 29:10Speaker 3: That gives them value.
- 29:11Speaker 2: And if they don't, then they're not going to be
- 29:12Speaker 2: in that super conference.
- 29:16Speaker 1: But see, that would allow you into the super conference
- 29:19Speaker 1: if you're Carolina. You're praying that the SEC wants to
- 29:27Speaker 1: kick out LSU for whatever reason. But it wouldn't be
- 29:30Speaker 1: because of playing a a player who didn't get picked
- 29:34Speaker 1: up by the NFL waiver wire, I don't believe. It's
- 29:39Speaker 1: certainly not going to be because... they played a soccer player.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I would like to see the next league meeting
- 29:45Speaker 2: with presidents and coaches and everyone to see if it's
- 29:48Speaker 2: actually contentious. Regardless of how this ends on Thursday or
- 29:52Speaker 2: how this plays out throughout the year. Let's just say
- 29:55Speaker 2: hypothetically that the players win on Thursday. And there's no
- 30:00Speaker 2: further appeals or nothing else happens. And the SEC is
- 30:03Speaker 2: basically handcuffed to have to allow LSU to roster those players.
- 30:07Speaker 2: And no other SEC school rosters a single NFL player.
- 30:11Speaker 2: And LSU wins the SEC in year one. I would
- 30:14Speaker 2: love to be a fly on the wall in the
- 30:15Speaker 2: meetings after this season to see what goes on with
- 30:19Speaker 2: that and what's talked about.
- 30:20Speaker 1: You know, I would also say, like, just the whole–
- 30:27Speaker 1: I don't think it's contentious because LSU is one of the–
- 30:32Speaker 1: it was a vote that ended unanimous that they weren't
- 30:36Speaker 1: going to add former pro players to rosters, right? The
- 30:40Speaker 1: vote where they abstained was for the punishment, not for
- 30:43Speaker 1: the addition.
- 30:45Speaker 3: I'm trying to think about– There were two votes.
- 30:47Speaker 2: I'm trying to think about what is the possible explanation
- 30:52Speaker 2: that Lane Kiffin could– I'm always thinking about PR tactics, okay?
- 30:55Speaker 3: Okay.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin is thinking about talking out of both sides
- 30:58Speaker 2: of his mouth and doing all that, which is a
- 30:59Speaker 2: PR move in a way, too. But what do you
- 31:02Speaker 2: ultimately come back and say if your own president initially
- 31:06Speaker 2: voted against adding these players in a unanimous vote or
- 31:09Speaker 2: abstained or whatever it was?
- 31:10Speaker 3: No, no, no. He didn't vote against adding the players
- 31:12Speaker 3: at all.
- 31:15Speaker 1: They voted against not adding NFL players but abstained against
- 31:21Speaker 1: punishment for that.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 31:24Speaker 2: So I'm trying to think about what would the one
- 31:27Speaker 2: possible explanation be if you said like, hey, I know
- 31:31Speaker 2: our president, you know, that nobody wants this. But now
- 31:35Speaker 2: we're kind of in a bind because there were no
- 31:36Speaker 2: rules on it. And we promised these guys we're going
- 31:39Speaker 2: to be here and our school is going to get sued.
- 31:42Speaker 2: If we don't add them to the roster. Like, do
- 31:44Speaker 2: you act like you're now handcuffed? Like, guys, sorry, my
- 31:47Speaker 2: hands are tied. They were promised a spot. They've been
- 31:49Speaker 2: at practice. We can't then just kick them off the team.
- 31:51Speaker 2: They've got to stay and play.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I don't think there's been any promises. Ask the players
- 31:55Speaker 1: who are currently there that are getting kicked off the team.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I'm saying to the players they're adding.
- 32:01Speaker 4: I know.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Not the players on the team. I don't think there's
- 32:02Speaker 3: any loyalty to them either. Well, no, I'm not saying
- 32:06Speaker 3: that LSU's loyal.
- 32:07Speaker 2: I'm saying, would they make an argument lying about having
- 32:11Speaker 2: to be loyal for a court system because they're afraid
- 32:14Speaker 2: they're going to get sued by the players since they
- 32:16Speaker 2: already offered them a spot on the team? I'm just
- 32:18Speaker 2: coming up with hypotheticals for what they could possibly say.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I think they have towed the line to where they
- 32:25Speaker 1: are waiting on further guidance. And whatever this guidance says
- 32:28Speaker 1: is what they're going to abide by. Same for the SEC.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Because that's why they're waiting on the court.
- 32:36Speaker 2: I think the SEC is going to fight this to
- 32:38Speaker 2: the end. Whatever happens on Thursday, they're going to continue fighting.
- 32:41Speaker 1: And until then, we're kicking off a football season with
- 32:44Speaker 1: players on rosters.
- 32:45Speaker 4: Right.
- 32:46Speaker 2: And I hope if they play those guys, they forfeit.
- 32:50Speaker 3: But they won't. That's great.
- 32:53Speaker 2: They may not. I'm just telling you that I believe
- 32:56Speaker 2: this is wrong. The SEC believes it's wrong.
- 32:58Speaker 3: That's fine, and it is wrong. Everyone else does too.
- 33:01Speaker 2: I'm allowed to have an opinion and say I hope
- 33:04Speaker 2: they forfeit every game.
- 33:06Speaker 3: I will gladly call the state of Louisiana a bunch
- 33:08Speaker 3: of idiots.
- 33:08Speaker 1: But to act like the SEC is going to do
- 33:10Speaker 1: anything when they didn't do anything about Alabama hoops– They're
- 33:13Speaker 1: not going to.
- 33:14Speaker 2: They are trying to do something in this case. They
- 33:17Speaker 2: are trying to get the courts and the federal government.
- 33:19Speaker 2: They are trying to stop this before it becomes a
- 33:21Speaker 2: bigger deal. LSU is adding multiple players to a football
- 33:24Speaker 2: roster for the NFL. It's different than the one player
- 33:27Speaker 2: at Alabama, which they also hated. So they saw that sprinkle,
- 33:31Speaker 2: and now they're seeing a rainstorm. And they're actually saying
- 33:35Speaker 2: they're trying to stop it. I believe them that they're
- 33:38Speaker 2: trying to stop it. Will they win in local Louisiana
- 33:42Speaker 2: appellate court? Hell if I know, because I don't understand
- 33:45Speaker 2: the politics and what goes on in Louisiana. They've got
- 33:48Speaker 2: a governor who sounds like Bobby Boucher from Waterbury. So
- 33:51Speaker 2: I don't know what's going to happen ultimately in that state.
- 33:54Speaker 2: I'm telling you it's LSU versus everybody. And LSU is
- 33:57Speaker 2: in the wrong.
- 33:59Speaker 1: And right now, it's the SEC trying to get the
- 34:01Speaker 1: federal government to help them. And government includes, I guess,
- 34:06Speaker 1: this crazy governor.
- 34:10Speaker 3: That's right.
- 34:10Speaker 2: He's not a part of the federal government. And the SEC,
- 34:13Speaker 2: we should want the Protect College Sports Act to happen.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Everybody else does, too, so there's more.
- 34:18Speaker 3: First off, I also want the players to be heard
- 34:21Speaker 3: on that, too.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Yeah, there needs to be collective bargaining.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Because otherwise we're just going to end up in lawsuits again.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Danny White, the AD at Tennessee, is the first one
- 34:27Speaker 2: saying it. No one else is saying it. He's like,
- 34:29Speaker 2: we have to have the players there for a collective
- 34:31Speaker 2: bargaining agreement. No one wants to hear it, but that's
- 34:34Speaker 2: going to have to happen with Congress or whoever. But
- 34:36Speaker 2: getting that antitrust exemption is the first step, and then
- 34:40Speaker 2: players can come to the table also and collectively bargain,
- 34:44Speaker 2: which I hope ultimately we get there. Sam in our
- 34:47Speaker 2: YouTube chat is saying, what's the timeline on a super conference?
- 34:50Speaker 2: I think a lot of that is dictated by whatever
- 34:52Speaker 2: laws are passed, you know, but like if they can
- 34:55Speaker 2: get it under control, maybe there's a place where it
- 34:57Speaker 2: can still exist. But ultimately, there's only going to be
- 34:59Speaker 2: a number of programs that can exist even at the
- 35:02Speaker 2: level that Congress is talking about.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Well, but also the timeline also is at the mercy
- 35:08Speaker 1: of these TV contracts.
- 35:10Speaker 3: That's 2029, right? Correct, yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 2: It's going to be, I said five years. I said
- 35:17Speaker 2: within the next five years. But again, a lot of this,
- 35:20Speaker 2: we got to see if there's anything done in government
- 35:23Speaker 2: to apply rules to the entire sport and then see
- 35:26Speaker 2: what that looks like if it happens.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Coming up, a new addition to the sport and stay roster. Plus,
- 35:33Speaker 1: Titans fans are mad.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Go figure.
- 35:36Speaker 1: They're not mad at their team, apparently. They should be.
- 35:38Speaker 1: That's all straight ahead on Hutton and Withrow. We are
- 35:40Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bet. Chad, a new addition to
- 35:44Speaker 1: the SportsCenter roster coming up in just a moment.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Yes, there we go.
- 35:49Speaker 1: The perfect 10 mortgage. The name says it all. Apply
- 35:52Speaker 1: in 10 minutes. Close in 10 days. That's the whole idea.
- 35:56Speaker 1: A mortgage that's simple, fast, and fair. 10 minutes, start
- 36:00Speaker 1: to finish, right from your phone. No stack of paperwork.
- 36:03Speaker 1: No sitting across the desk from a banker who talks
- 36:05Speaker 1: down to you.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Date the rate. Marry the house.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Throw that on a t-shirt. Get the house you want now.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Refinance when rates come down. How many credit cards are
- 36:12Speaker 2: you juggling right now? And every month you send in
- 36:14Speaker 2: the minimum payment and that balance barely moves because the
- 36:17Speaker 2: interest is eating you alive. It doesn't have to stay
- 36:19Speaker 2: that way. With Perfect 10 Mortgage, you may be able
- 36:22Speaker 2: to use the equity you've already built in your home
- 36:24Speaker 2: to pay off those high interest credit cards and personal
- 36:26Speaker 2: loans and roll everything into one simpler monthly payment, one payment,
- 36:30Speaker 2: one due date, a whole lot less stress. And if
- 36:33Speaker 2: you're buying new construction, ask about the builder program, date
- 36:36Speaker 2: the rate, marry the house, get the house you want now,
- 36:38Speaker 2: refinance when rates come down. Straight talk on what you
- 36:41Speaker 2: actually qualify for. Built for real people, not paperwork. Perfect10Mortgage. com
- 36:46Speaker 2: or call them 855-789-1010. That's Perfect10Mortgage. com. Perfect 10 Mortgage is
- 36:53Speaker 2: an equal housing lender. Perfect 10 Mortgage is a DBA
- 36:55Speaker 2: or network funding LP. NMLS number 2297. Equal housing lender.
- 37:00Speaker 2: All borrowers must qualify. This advertisement is not a promise
- 37:03Speaker 2: to make alone.
- 37:06Speaker 1: It is Hudson Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet. Chad,
- 37:09Speaker 1: one thing that's for sure is Clay does not stop hiring,
- 37:14Speaker 1: either on the site, on the network, or behind the
- 37:18Speaker 1: scenes production. And he's done it yet again.
- 37:21Speaker 3: He has, yes.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Karen Krause, who was a longtime reporter for the New
- 37:26Speaker 2: York Times, I think 16 years Karen was with the
- 37:30Speaker 2: New York Times, is the latest hire for Sport and State.
- 37:34Speaker 2: So it's a great get. Karen, I think in her
- 37:37Speaker 2: last post, at the New York Times was the.
- 37:42Speaker 3: International sports correspondent.
- 37:45Speaker 2: So she was not let go from the New York Times,
- 37:50Speaker 2: but ended up leaving the New York Times because she
- 37:53Speaker 2: was ghostwriting a biography or an autobiography of Michael Phelps
- 37:58Speaker 2: and was not allowed to go to the Olympics because
- 38:02Speaker 2: she didn't disclose. that she was ghost riding with Michael Phelps.
- 38:06Speaker 2: So now she's with us and she's a former swimmer
- 38:10Speaker 2: from USC. So excited to have Karen Krause join us
- 38:13Speaker 2: at Sporting State. Karen Krause, a great addition to the
- 38:18Speaker 2: Sporting State team. So certainly happy to have her on
- 38:20Speaker 2: board with everything that we're doing. And she's going to
- 38:23Speaker 2: write about a lot of different topics. Going to be
- 38:25Speaker 2: international sports, going to be Olympic style sports, but really
- 38:29Speaker 2: whatever she's feeling, she's going to write about. Karen's going
- 38:31Speaker 2: to join us on the Hutton & Withrow show tomorrow.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Good reminder also, we're on YouTube. You can follow us there,
- 38:37Speaker 2: Hutton & Withrow. We're also now streaming live on TwitterX,
- 38:41Speaker 2: and that's Hutton & Withrow. We're going to post that
- 38:42Speaker 2: throughout every show, and you can follow us on that one.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Follow Sport & State across social media as well. So
- 38:49Speaker 2: many different ways to follow the show. Facebook, we're streaming
- 38:52Speaker 2: live also. So many different ways to get to the show,
- 38:56Speaker 2: and we're excited about adding Karen Krause. And that's just
- 39:00Speaker 2: one of many ways of a talented roster of talent
- 39:03Speaker 2: that we're going to add and have on. Also, I
- 39:05Speaker 2: don't know if everybody saw, but Todd Furman, our old buddy,
- 39:08Speaker 2: the Bet the Board podcast is back after, I think,
- 39:11Speaker 2: 16 months off.
- 39:13Speaker 3: They are back with us and excited to have them
- 39:15Speaker 3: on board as well. Last night, Chad. That's awesome. I'm
- 39:18Speaker 3: glad he's back.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Furman's a good dude, man. We're excited to have that contact,
- 39:23Speaker 2: especially with our partnership with Hard Rock Bet. Those guys
- 39:26Speaker 2: do a great job and probably going to help you
- 39:28Speaker 2: win some money, maybe more.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Than I will.
- 39:30Speaker 2: I can't speak for Hutton, but they'll definitely help out
- 39:33Speaker 2: more than me. I can tell you that.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Well, you know my record as well.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Neither one of our records are good. We always get
- 39:41Speaker 2: caught up in, we're going to go for the bundle
- 39:43Speaker 2: all the time. And going for the bundle is what
- 39:45Speaker 2: gets us beat. We don't tease things up or down.
- 39:48Speaker 2: We don't take like, oh, let's just do the one bet.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Hutton and I were like, let's do a five-leg parlay
- 39:53Speaker 2: and then count that against our overall record. So then
- 39:56Speaker 2: when they put those graphics together at the end of
- 39:58Speaker 2: a season, it's like Hutton and Withrow, 2-38 on the season.
- 40:02Speaker 3: It's almost like we were set up to fail.
- 40:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 2: There are times I feel like people take great joy
- 40:10Speaker 2: in us looking like idiots. I've been in plenty of
- 40:14Speaker 2: situations that's the case. Luckily, not the case here.
- 40:18Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, absolutely not.
- 40:21Speaker 2: These guys do a hell of a job trying to
- 40:22Speaker 2: make us look good, which is tough work. It's really
- 40:25Speaker 2: tough work if you can get it. Coming up, we
- 40:27Speaker 2: discuss Titans fans. Why are you so mad with I.S.?
- 40:34Speaker 2: That's next here on Hunt It With Roe. We are
- 40:35Speaker 2: presented by Hard Rock Bet. Accidents do not wait for
- 40:39Speaker 2: good timing. One bad moment, a wreck, a fall, a
- 40:42Speaker 2: doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly you're fighting an insurance
- 40:46Speaker 2: company that Well, they do this every single day.
- 40:48Speaker 1: That's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a Vanderbilt
- 40:51Speaker 1: law grad. He built a firm around one idea. People
- 40:55Speaker 1: who deserve someone who are willing to pay attention to them.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Ask the hard questions and push back when things don't
- 41:03Speaker 1: add up. Experienced trial attorneys who bring the fight to
- 41:07Speaker 1: corporations and insurers. Based in Nashville and trusted across the country.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Car and truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability,
- 41:16Speaker 2: product liability. If you were wrong, they want to hear
- 41:19Speaker 2: about it.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Here's what they promise. Honesty.
- 41:21Speaker 2: They don't sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth,
- 41:23Speaker 2: not what you want to hear. Case evaluation is free.
- 41:26Speaker 2: No charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Go to claytravislaw.com or call 877-222-4444. That's claytravislaw.com. No case
- 41:33Speaker 2: is too big or too small at Clay Travis Law.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Maybe some Clay Travis lawyers might be down in the
- 41:43Speaker 2: hearing with the SEC and LSU. Don't know which side
- 41:46Speaker 2: they're representing, but.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Maybe they'll be there. That's what I said. Hey, SEC
- 41:50Speaker 3: could use a little Clay Travis law.
- 41:51Speaker 4: They could.
- 41:52Speaker 3: A little strong arm of the law. Outside counsel. They
- 41:54Speaker 3: said they're going to take outside counsel. Let's go, Greg Sankey.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Come on. You know who to call. Or you could
- 42:00Speaker 3: go with Richard T. Strong, DUI Dick.
- 42:02Speaker 4: Yes.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:04Speaker 2: I can't help but think of DUI Dick every time
- 42:05Speaker 2: I read this one, too.
- 42:06Speaker 3: Dick Strong. Not to give any plugs to somebody else.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Dick Strong. Play Travis Law way better, but yeah. DUI
- 42:12Speaker 3: Dick is tough to beat.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Honey, it's tough to beat right now the softness of
- 42:18Speaker 2: the Titans fan base in any regards.
- 42:21Speaker 1: I said yesterday, I said, there's a difference between we
- 42:23Speaker 1: ass and I ass if you walk down a dark alley. Well,
- 42:29Speaker 1: the Titans fan base acting like we ass. with their
- 42:33Speaker 1: reaction yesterday, Chad?
- 42:35Speaker 3: Well, so.
- 42:37Speaker 2: The clip from yesterday that's getting... At softball last night,
- 42:41Speaker 2: I had two parents come up to me that were
- 42:42Speaker 2: laughing about it and said, you need to put I.S.
- 42:45Speaker 3: On a T-shirt. No, we don't. I'm not wearing that one.
- 42:48Speaker 2: And yeah, I was like, you can wear it.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Wear that in jail.
- 42:51Speaker 2: But I'm sure if it made money that we would
- 42:54Speaker 2: produce that shirt at Sporting State if possible.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Look, I think it's fair to ask.
- 43:03Speaker 3: How long do you give a young quarterback, right?
- 43:07Speaker 2: Like going into year two before you decide like, okay,
- 43:10Speaker 2: this guy's not going to make it. And I'm not
- 43:11Speaker 2: saying with any certainty that Cam Ward is not going
- 43:14Speaker 2: to make it.
- 43:15Speaker 3: Okay. So I can understand like, Hey guys, let's just.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Let's chill out. It's preseason. You know, we haven't played
- 43:21Speaker 2: a regular season game yet. I can understand that argument.
- 43:24Speaker 2: I'll also say that when we're talking about this on
- 43:26Speaker 2: the show and everyone's first response is, um.
- 43:29Speaker 3: How dare you?
- 43:30Speaker 2: No, it's not even that. It's not even a valid
- 43:33Speaker 2: argument against it. I know that I'm right and we're
- 43:36Speaker 2: probably right when all the responses are, you know, you're ugly.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Or you're stupid. Or you guys sucked ever.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Since you left local radio. Or Paul Koharski made you guys.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Or tell your daddy Clay Travis was too hot. PK's
- 43:53Speaker 2: burner account.
- 43:54Speaker 3: I got thick skin. I've heard it all.
- 43:56Speaker 2: I don't really care at all about that type of stuff.
- 43:59Speaker 2: I just know I've got you when everybody's response is,
- 44:03Speaker 2: Did your daddy, Clay.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Travis, tell you to say that?
- 44:07Speaker 2: That's the response of a child when it's like, well,
- 44:11Speaker 2: you suck.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Sounds like a bunch of burner accounts. Yeah.
- 44:16Speaker 2: It's like Mike Dexter in Can't Hardly Wait when he said,
- 44:19Speaker 2: I would kick everyone's ass in this room. Was his
- 44:21Speaker 2: only response when people were legitimately making fun of him?
- 44:25Speaker 2: That's the response for most people. So I know at
- 44:28Speaker 2: that point that we're on to something. with the insecurities
- 44:32Speaker 2: of the Titans fan base when it comes to Cam Ward.
- 44:34Speaker 2: And we're just stating something that is a fact. Look,
- 44:37Speaker 2: people can talk about, you know, Jared Stillman's the guy
- 44:40Speaker 2: who asked the question we talked about. And then a
- 44:42Speaker 2: lot of the responses are, well, Stillman's not a reporter. Well,
- 44:45Speaker 2: that's not for Cam Ward to decide. If someone's granted
- 44:49Speaker 2: press access and is at.
- 44:50Speaker 3: The press conference.
- 44:53Speaker 2: My point is, if you are a 15-year pro, Hutton,
- 44:56Speaker 2: and you feel like, as the quarterback, who is this
- 44:59Speaker 2: guy that keeps talking about me? I've been there and
- 45:01Speaker 2: done that before, and I want to joust with this
- 45:04Speaker 2: guy a little bit and throw it back at him
- 45:06Speaker 2: and say, why don't you evaluate my play and tell
- 45:08Speaker 2: me what you think?
- 45:09Speaker 3: And he said, oh, you think that? Well, I'm glad
- 45:10Speaker 3: you think that. There's different levels and layers to this.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Cade Ward is the furthest from being soft, by the way. No,
- 45:18Speaker 3: I don't think he's soft. Well, I'm saying that it
- 45:20Speaker 3: sounds like the response has been.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Yes, from Titans fans.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Soft response for what is a quarterback who wouldn't want
- 45:30Speaker 1: you to be soft.
- 45:32Speaker 3: I mean, he can take it. He can take the heat.
- 45:36Speaker 1: It's not the first time he's asked at a press conference,
- 45:38Speaker 1: Jared's still got a question like that in response to
- 45:42Speaker 1: a question either. It's a very insecure fan base for
- 45:45Speaker 1: an organization that's very insecure.
- 45:47Speaker 3: Quite frankly.
- 45:49Speaker 1: And that's what brings up all this, you know, the
- 45:55Speaker 1: Titans fans are insecure because they have no other reason
- 45:58Speaker 1: to be secure about anything other than we better hope
- 46:02Speaker 1: and pray that we hit the lottery on a quarterback finally.
- 46:05Speaker 3: And this is the only one they've got. It's not
- 46:07Speaker 3: Mitch Trubisky. Yeah, I mean, I.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Just, and keep the comments coming, by the way, on
- 46:15Speaker 2: the YouTube page also. Here's what I would like for
- 46:20Speaker 2: this market, right, and we're talking about Nashville with the Titans, Hutton,
- 46:25Speaker 2: is every other NFL market I feel like, I'm not
- 46:30Speaker 2: asking for people to 100% agree with something I say
- 46:32Speaker 2: or you say or anything. We want to spark discussion
- 46:36Speaker 2: and debate on everything. So if you think I'm wrong
- 46:39Speaker 2: for saying that he needs to be more accountable and
- 46:41Speaker 2: instead of throwing a question back at a reporter, just
- 46:43Speaker 2: come back and say, yeah, I've sucked. Because he had
- 46:46Speaker 2: no problem saying the team was that bad. And yes,
- 46:48Speaker 2: he was including himself in that after that game also.
- 46:51Speaker 2: But I wouldn't mind him just saying that and coming back.
- 46:55Speaker 2: But I would love for a fan base to get
- 46:59Speaker 2: upset when their number one overall pick isn't performing. I
- 47:03Speaker 2: want them to get upset when he carries the ball
- 47:05Speaker 2: like a loaf of bread. I know it's preseason. But
- 47:07Speaker 2: those are the types of mistakes and mental mistakes of
- 47:11Speaker 2: just not doing the right thing that I want to
- 47:13Speaker 2: see start to be erased. in year two in the NFL.
- 47:16Speaker 2: And I'm not seeing enough from Cam Ward where he's
- 47:18Speaker 2: learned from his first year mistakes and is changing the
- 47:22Speaker 2: way he's playing at all.
- 47:24Speaker 1: I want the fan base to start getting upset whenever
- 47:27Speaker 1: they hear the team talk about week 18 instead of
- 47:29Speaker 1: week one, where they're going to be. It's time for
- 47:33Speaker 1: this organization to win in the month of September. They
- 47:36Speaker 1: haven't done that. They haven't done that. They've won three
- 47:39Speaker 1: games each of the last three years, and they have
- 47:41Speaker 1: play-by-play announcers that are talking about games that matter in
- 47:45Speaker 1: the month of December that do nothing but keep you
- 47:47Speaker 1: from having the number one overall pick because that roster
- 47:49Speaker 1: there doesn't carry over to the roster here whatsoever at all. Jad,
- 47:56Speaker 1: this is an organization that needs to go out and
- 48:00Speaker 1: beat the New York Jets. Last I checked, they're waltzing
- 48:04Speaker 1: in Geno Smith at quarterback in week one. Last I checked,
- 48:10Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn is the head coach who's a good defensive
- 48:12Speaker 1: coordinator in Detroit. But I also know that Robert Sala
- 48:18Speaker 1: was a great defensive coordinator everywhere he's been. And he's
- 48:22Speaker 1: the head coach, but he's also calling plays defensively because, oh,
- 48:27Speaker 1: by the way, the Titans have the best offensive coordinator
- 48:30Speaker 1: hire of the offseason in Brian Dable.
- 48:33Speaker 3: And he's the effective head coach of the offense.
- 48:36Speaker 1: So taking all of that into account and knowing that
- 48:39Speaker 1: you're playing the New York freaking Jets, who own a
- 48:43Speaker 1: spot in the cellar longer than you have, but yet
- 48:47Speaker 1: your roommate's with them, how about go out and beat
- 48:49Speaker 1: the Jets and win in week one for the first
- 48:51Speaker 1: time in like five or six years? Or win a
- 48:54Speaker 1: home opener on the day you're honoring one of your
- 48:58Speaker 1: all-time legends in Chris Johnson, who has ALS, and you're
- 49:01Speaker 1: putting him into the ring of honor.
- 49:03Speaker 3: Instead of talking about this is.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Our floor and we're going to get better every single week, guys,
- 49:07Speaker 1: here we go.
- 49:08Speaker 3: Hip, hip, hooray. Everyone on three. One, two, three. Titans.
- 49:11Speaker 4: No.
- 49:12Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 49:13Speaker 1: You go out and if you're going to talk about
- 49:14Speaker 1: putting belts to asses against the former Superbowl champs in
- 49:17Speaker 1: the practice and how you're starving and they're hungry, but
- 49:20Speaker 1: we're starving. You go out and you beat a scrub
- 49:22Speaker 1: football organization and stop being one. That's where I'm coming from.
- 49:28Speaker 3: Very well said.
- 49:29Speaker 2: And that is that to me, that that's the underlying
- 49:31Speaker 2: problem that you just hit on the very end of
- 49:33Speaker 2: that Hutton beat a scrub organization.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Instead of being one, the Titans are a scrub organization, right? Yeah,
- 49:39Speaker 3: they have been.
- 49:40Speaker 2: That's what is someone who has followed the team, who
- 49:42Speaker 2: wants them to do well, who lives in Nashville. I
- 49:45Speaker 2: want them to stop being a scrub football organization. But
- 49:49Speaker 2: it's harder to get there when your own fan base
- 49:52Speaker 2: does not hold you accountable for being a scrub football
- 49:55Speaker 2: organization and instead wants to defend everything and everyone that
- 49:58Speaker 2: that organization says is great.
- 50:01Speaker 3: And then we tie.
- 50:02Speaker 2: That into a lot of local media, not us, certainly
- 50:06Speaker 2: not Jared Stillman either. But a lot of local media,
- 50:09Speaker 2: let's face it, the response to them losing to the
- 50:12Speaker 2: Jets in that scenario you just talked about, Hutton, will
- 50:15Speaker 2: be to immediately go after fans who are mad about it.
- 50:19Speaker 3: This is our floor is going to be the response. Exactly.
- 50:21Speaker 3: It's not going to.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Be a lot of, boy, this is disastrous.
- 50:24Speaker 3: This is really bad. It's going to be a lot of, guys,
- 50:27Speaker 3: it's one game. It's the NFL. Do you not know
- 50:29Speaker 3: how the NFL works? This isn't college. It's the NFL.
- 50:32Speaker 3: It's one of 17 games. Chill out. They're building to
- 50:35Speaker 3: something big here. Something else is happening.
- 50:38Speaker 2: And that doesn't need to be the response.
- 50:43Speaker 3: They're going to throw a parade. You're talking about the media.
- 50:45Speaker 1: The media is going to throw a parade for a
- 50:48Speaker 1: team to win back-to-back games for the first time since
- 50:50Speaker 1: John Robinson was fired.
- 50:52Speaker 3: If it happens, yes. The New York Jets won back-to-back
- 50:55Speaker 3: games last season. Last season.
- 50:58Speaker 2: How is that a real stat, by the way? That
- 51:01Speaker 2: is nuts. They have not won back-to-back games since John Robinson?
- 51:05Speaker 3: They have not. Not since 2023.
- 51:07Speaker 2: That is a near impossibility. I mean, Bravo Titans, you've
- 51:11Speaker 2: reached a level of ineptitude that I didn't think was possible.
- 51:14Speaker 2: That is an incredible stat.
- 51:16Speaker 4: I have not.
- 51:18Speaker 2: To me, the fans, the only time they hold the
- 51:22Speaker 2: Titans accountable, Hutton, the fan base as a whole, is
- 51:26Speaker 2: in how they don't buy tickets. Because selling tickets this
- 51:29Speaker 2: year is going to be a big problem. To me,
- 51:31Speaker 2: that's the only area where I'm like, all right, good job,
- 51:33Speaker 2: Titans fans. I wouldn't buy a ticket to that either.
- 51:36Speaker 2: So way to go to not show up to the game.
- 51:37Speaker 2: I can't blame anyone. You've said the upper deck's the
- 51:40Speaker 2: hardest ticket to sell in sports. No one's in that
- 51:42Speaker 2: upper deck.
- 51:43Speaker 3: And I don't blame them.
- 51:44Speaker 1: And then here's the other layer to it. It's not
- 51:47Speaker 1: just about having a quarterback that gets four wins instead
- 51:50Speaker 1: of three. Because four wins keeps you in the cellar
- 51:55Speaker 1: with the Jets and Giants.
- 51:57Speaker 4: Okay?
- 51:58Speaker 1: Progress is not just four or five wins. Progress can
- 52:02Speaker 1: be a part. Four or five wins can be a
- 52:06Speaker 1: part of progress. But you have the number one overall
- 52:10Speaker 1: pick on offense. You have the number one overall selection
- 52:14Speaker 1: among offensive coordinators that you wanted to bring in. You
- 52:18Speaker 1: have the number four overall pick this year at wide receiver.
- 52:23Speaker 1: You just gave a bunch of money to Skowronski up front.
- 52:27Speaker 1: You still have a big upgrade at wide receiver with
- 52:31Speaker 1: Wondell Robinson, who knows this offense, Calvin Ridley, who is healthy.
- 52:35Speaker 1: You have two picks from, um, you have an all
- 52:37Speaker 1: pro and Chimbray DK, who's a backup right now on offense,
- 52:41Speaker 1: but it's special team. You have a great special teams overall.
- 52:44Speaker 1: I mean, that might be the side of the football
- 52:47Speaker 1: that leads this team. The phase of the football, I
- 52:49Speaker 1: should say that they are really, really good on special teams.
- 52:52Speaker 1: They're the best special teams coach in the NFL. Um, Defensively,
- 52:57Speaker 1: most money.
- 52:58Speaker 3: Beamer ball.
- 52:59Speaker 1: First or second most money spin up front on the
- 53:01Speaker 1: defensive line is the Tennessee Titans. You don't have to
- 53:06Speaker 1: have Ladarius Sneed on this team anymore. You've upgraded over
- 53:11Speaker 1: that theoretically, hypothetically. Point being, Chad, is this quarterback going
- 53:17Speaker 1: to be the number one overall pick and be elite
- 53:18Speaker 1: or not? Because progress isn't just Cam Ward being good.
- 53:24Speaker 1: That's not good enough.
- 53:26Speaker 3: If you're a.
- 53:26Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans fan, because the Tennessee Titans told you, this
- 53:30Speaker 1: guy's just not good.
- 53:31Speaker 3: He's number one overall pick. We are proclaiming him great.
- 53:36Speaker 3: He will be elite.
- 53:38Speaker 1: That is what they have said by where they drafted him.
- 53:42Speaker 1: And it's not unfair to say that is the demand,
- 53:47Speaker 1: because that comes with the territory of being the number
- 53:50Speaker 1: one overall pick in the National Football League at that position.
- 53:54Speaker 3: Period. Point blank. That's your expectation. He can't just go
- 54:00Speaker 3: from rookie to good.
- 54:03Speaker 1: It is time to turn on the jet fuel with
- 54:05Speaker 1: this guy, with all of the things that they've done
- 54:09Speaker 1: in the offseason. It doesn't have to be week one
- 54:13Speaker 1: where he's got to be great and elite, but he
- 54:15Speaker 1: better go out and beat the New York freaking Jets.
- 54:18Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. And the team, it doesn't have
- 54:20Speaker 1: to be all Cam Ward. The team better go do
- 54:22Speaker 1: that because it's time to start stacking wins. It's time
- 54:26Speaker 1: to go back to back. It's time to have consistent
- 54:29Speaker 1: performances from a quarterback that is in lockstep with the
- 54:34Speaker 1: coordinator who then uses all of these pieces properly to
- 54:39Speaker 1: elevate the entire offense and actually score, I don't know,
- 54:43Speaker 1: more than 13.9 points per month going into the season.
- 54:48Speaker 3: That'd be nice. That's progress.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Progress is not just, oh, we have two wins now
- 54:57Speaker 1: before Halloween.
- 54:58Speaker 3: No, no.
- 55:01Speaker 1: That's not parade worthy here. We're not waving the white
- 55:04Speaker 1: flag at Halloween. We made it until Thanksgiving this year.
- 55:06Speaker 1: That's not progress. That's not good enough for a team
- 55:12Speaker 1: that is going into a 2026 season with the biggest
- 55:17Speaker 1: promotion ever. being about the stadium that they're about to
- 55:20Speaker 1: tear down, and don't you want to come out and
- 55:22Speaker 1: relive all the great glory moments before we tear this
- 55:25Speaker 1: sumbitch down?
- 55:27Speaker 3: That's basically what they're saying.
- 55:29Speaker 2: And also, are we going to look back on Warren
- 55:32Speaker 2: Moon giving his number to Cam Ward the way we
- 55:35Speaker 2: look back at Will Levis' Mayo commercial?
- 55:37Speaker 3: In terms of all-time gas?
- 55:39Speaker 4: No.
- 55:40Speaker 3: I don't want that.
- 55:41Speaker 2: But also, talking about the number one pick and what
- 55:44Speaker 2: that means, Hutton, that to me also is a signifier
- 55:47Speaker 2: that we believe in this guy wholeheartedly, and it's going
- 55:51Speaker 2: to work out to an all-pro level. And he's going
- 55:54Speaker 2: to be a great quarterback in this league. When you
- 55:56Speaker 2: give a legends number like Warren Moon, take it out
- 56:00Speaker 2: of retirement to give it to Cam Ward, that's what
- 56:02Speaker 2: you're stating. As an organization. And I don't want them
- 56:05Speaker 2: to fall on their face with that.
- 56:07Speaker 1: I also want to say, I don't even want to
- 56:09Speaker 1: put the same breath as Will Levis and Cam Ward.
- 56:11Speaker 3: Cam Ward is not about his brand. No, I agree
- 56:13Speaker 3: with that. Cam Ward is not trying to be a
- 56:15Speaker 3: promotional arm at all. Yeah, I'm talking more.
- 56:17Speaker 2: About the team. When they decide to do that, when
- 56:20Speaker 2: they go to Warren Moon and do all that. Point being,
- 56:23Speaker 2: the expectations are high and they should be for Cam Ward.
- 56:26Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 56:27Speaker 2: I don't want everyone else's expectations to get on board
- 56:30Speaker 2: with ours and that level of where number one pick,
- 56:34Speaker 2: you took Warren Moon's number out of retirement for this guy.
- 56:37Speaker 2: And it's not too much to say, hey, you're playing
- 56:40Speaker 2: against backups. You're in the preseason games up until the
- 56:44Speaker 2: last one because your coach is saying the offense needs
- 56:47Speaker 2: those reps. So when you're in there, you need to
- 56:49Speaker 2: look better than you've looked in those games. And I
- 56:52Speaker 2: don't think it's the right thing to come back and say, well,
- 56:55Speaker 2: practice is where it matters and we've been better in practice.
- 56:58Speaker 3: I need to see it.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Maybe this guy flips a switch and he looks totally
- 57:01Speaker 2: different against the New York Jets. That's really a leap
- 57:04Speaker 2: of faith right now if you're a Titans fan to
- 57:06Speaker 2: say that that's going to happen.
- 57:08Speaker 3: It's also saying, okay, so the backups for the other
- 57:10Speaker 3: teams are better at executing the bland minutiae plays than
- 57:15Speaker 3: you are? That's also what he's admitting.
- 57:20Speaker 1: You guys are just going through the motions against backups
- 57:22Speaker 1: who are talking trash to you?
- 57:24Speaker 3: Have you talked trash all week to the Seahawks?
- 57:26Speaker 2: My response is, what's going to work? If playing the
- 57:28Speaker 2: backups and them being vanilla and you being vanilla, that
- 57:32Speaker 2: doesn't work for you, then what is going to work?
- 57:35Speaker 2: Is it going to be 35 trick plays a game?
- 57:37Speaker 2: Is it going to be, like you said, a version
- 57:39Speaker 2: of Beamer Ball where there's fake punts and fake kicks
- 57:42Speaker 2: and block punts and block kicks the whole time?
- 57:44Speaker 3: What's going to work for this team?
- 57:46Speaker 1: It can be. I'm not trying to make fun of
- 57:48Speaker 1: their special teams at all. I think their special teams
- 57:49Speaker 1: are very good. Bones Fossil's got something going. He's got
- 57:54Speaker 1: a really, really good special teams group. This offense, too,
- 57:58Speaker 1: has a chance to catch the Jets off guard because
- 58:02Speaker 1: Tajay Spears is healthy for the first time going into
- 58:05Speaker 1: week one since I don't know when. Last year, I
- 58:07Speaker 1: think he started the season on injured reserve with a recall.
- 58:12Speaker 1: I think we're going to see a lot more RPO
- 58:16Speaker 1: than what we saw from Brian Callahan. I think we're
- 58:18Speaker 1: going to see Spears and Pollard on the field at
- 58:21Speaker 1: the same time. I think Spears will be an extension
- 58:25Speaker 1: of the run game to the passing game in this offense.
- 58:27Speaker 1: We're going to see a lot of 12 personnel, two
- 58:29Speaker 1: tight ends on the field with the group that they
- 58:32Speaker 1: kept in their final 53. Chad, that means Gunner, Helm, Bellinger.
- 58:38Speaker 1: We didn't see much of them in the preseason. I
- 58:40Speaker 1: think we'll see some of them in week one. There
- 58:43Speaker 1: are facets of this offense that we have not seen
- 58:47Speaker 1: at all during the preseason that where Cam Ward's got
- 58:49Speaker 1: to hit the layups. And if he does, this is
- 58:52Speaker 1: the team that can move the football and put up
- 58:53Speaker 1: some points. Because there are things with, even with Dable,
- 59:00Speaker 1: you can go watch all the Giants film you want,
- 59:03Speaker 1: but you don't know, okay, so you can say like, okay,
- 59:06Speaker 1: Wanda Robinson's playing this role.
- 59:08Speaker 3: This is where they're going to, so-and-so is going to
- 59:10Speaker 3: be in the spot of Slayton.
- 59:11Speaker 1: You can try to put in all these different players,
- 59:13Speaker 1: but you don't know which player is going to be
- 59:15Speaker 1: where and how they're going to use certain players in
- 59:17Speaker 1: this offense compared to the way he used them in
- 59:19Speaker 1: New York. So with, with that in mind, there are
- 59:23Speaker 1: ways to catch teams off guard. They can catch the
- 59:25Speaker 1: jets off guard. Um, but, It's Cam Ward who's got
- 59:31Speaker 1: to be able to pull the trigger and make an
- 59:34Speaker 1: accurate pass. His feet are all out of whack. He's
- 59:38Speaker 1: just very inaccurate, especially intermediate to deep routes. They've given
- 59:42Speaker 1: him deep threats now with Carnell Tate. It's time for
- 59:44Speaker 1: him to hit some of those. And they've been hitting
- 59:46Speaker 1: them in practice. But practice doesn't count. Practice doesn't count.
- 59:51Speaker 1: They've got to start pushing the ball with an electric, entertaining...
- 59:59Speaker 1: quarterback he could and I'm saying that from that's who
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: he is he's got to be that at the pro
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: level because five years ago he's an incarnate word and
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: a year and a half ago he's the number one
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: overall pick so so now start start the climb towards
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: being great because ownership and this team didn't do you
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: any favors by firing your coach during your rookie season
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: by week six and You know, it was Halloween and
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: his rookie season's over. And now it's time for him
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: not to just lead the team. It's time for him
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: to own the team. This is his locker room. He's
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: got to take over.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: And if he doesn't and if he's bad, then, you know,
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: just give us an I ask instead of we ask.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Don't put it on the offensive line or anybody else.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: Just say that it was on you. Cam, you're the
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: leader of this team. You've been handed this organization as
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: the face of the franchise. Let's start to see more.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Again, the marketing value of we-ass is collectively, and he's right.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: If we, he was asked by Stillman weeks ago, does
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: the we include you? And the answer is yes. As
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: long as the we includes himself, I'm fine with him
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: saying we, because it's not just him that is ass.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: That entire organization has been. So it's not just Cam Ward,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: but Cam Ward leads the charge. And again, I'd rather
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: the Titans.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: Fanbase, wear shirts that says we instead of I because
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: those things are taken into a totally different meme nationally.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: You'll become a laughingstock.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: It's time for the Titans to turn up, to tighten up,
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: to turn up, to do something. And hopefully this fanbase
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: will follow along.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: This is Hutton and Withrow. We are presented by Hard
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: Rock Vet.
