3:01
talk about what's going on to their collective minds. We all those sponsors to
3:05
the show, or the folks at fresh Air, John Lovejoy Fresh Air joins
3:07
us now, John, good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning,
3:10
Dave. How are you? I'm doing fine, Thanks for thanks for
3:13
being here for those who have not heard you on the show before. What
3:17
exactly is fresh Air? Because we all want it, we all need it?
3:21
But what is fresh Air? The company? Fresh Air is an air
3:23
filter changing service. We come out, we build a custom fit air filter
3:30
frame to fit into your HVAC unit, and then we come out on a
3:36
regular basis and change that filter for you, so you no longer have to
3:39
worry about when it's time to change your air filter or anything along that line.
3:44
Now, what's the reason I would pay for this service? I mean,
3:46
if I let me just say this, Let's say I'm a small business
3:50
owner. Okay, now I know you do residential and business, but let's
3:53
say I'm a small business owner or residential for that matter. Can I just
3:55
do it myself. You can do it yourself, but there are advantages to
4:00
having us do it. When that metal frame is heavier, it's it's a
4:03
better fit. So that's going to help with your HVAC unit. Less is
4:08
getting around our filters and into your unit. So it helps protect your investment
4:13
from that. In small business wise, a lot of those don't have maintenance
4:18
staff and so it allows us to be the maintenance staff for you. And
4:24
then you know, it's the convenience of it and just you know, not
4:28
having to worry about again when it's time to change, you know, and
4:34
you know, different things come up, and it's it's taken care of exactly.
4:40
I mean, you don't have to worry about it. You don't have
4:42
to out of It's the peace of mind. Yeah, it's all take too
4:44
many times, it's out of sight, out of mind. Yeah. Talking
4:46
about customer service, I mean it's lacking in a lot of companies across America
4:51
day. But it's something that I think your company really prides themselves on.
4:55
We do. We pride ourselves on three different factors and the first of those
5:00
is our customer service. And when we say customer service, we mean at
5:02
all levels whether it be you know, as a sales manager, I take
5:08
pride in my staff that works for me, whether it be scheduling. You
5:13
know, we've got the flexibility there so you as far as scheduling goes,
5:16
John, you can just have this set up on a on a regular basis
5:20
so I don't have to call and necessarily make an appointment. I mean,
5:23
you put it in your computer and you know that day's barbecue pit slash tanning
5:28
bed salon is do every six months or a year or whatever. How often
5:31
should the should that service be done? A service? Should the service should
5:35
be done no less than every three months, every three months. So it's
5:40
automatically, yeah, it's it's automatically in there. So I don't have to
5:43
worry if I'm operating a business about calling you. You just show up and
5:46
do it absolutely. And you know when we show we're going to call ahead
5:49
of time to confirm your appointment. And when I say the flexibility, that's
5:55
where I'm talking about. If there's something that's come up on your schedule and
5:58
we need to reschedule that appointment, we can do that. And so Marcia,
6:03
my office scheduler, is wonderful to work with and take care of that
6:11
for you, so that way we can make it fit into your schedule.
6:15
And then my technicians are absolutely wonderful and people are raving about them, their
6:21
professionalism, the fact that they're on time. That's huge. Oh yeah,
6:27
people's time is valuable. And you don't do the we'll be there between eight
6:30
am and and Sunday. No, no, no, we do not.
6:34
If your appointment is set for one o'clock in the afternoon, we're there are
6:38
at one o'clock in the afternoon. Yeah, But we pride ourselves on our
6:43
customer service. We pride ourselves on our affordability. You know. The way
6:46
I view it is, what good is a service if nobody can afford it,
6:50
you know. So we've got the service price to where it fits in
6:56
everybody's budget. And then we pride ourselves in ourvigesults, our results, not
7:01
only your system running more efficiently, which is going to save you money on
7:05
your energy bills, but the inside results as well. Just as an example,
7:12
have a gentleman that recently got a our Services added to his two units.
7:18
He has one upstairs and one downstairs, and he said for years that
7:23
upstairs unit had ran constantly and was not getting any cooler than seventy seven degrees
7:30
inside, So you can imagine how low down that was upstairs. And he
7:34
said since he since he switched to fresh air, he's noticed that his unit
7:41
isn't running NonStop, but the temperature is so much cooler where the thermostat is
7:48
actually set, which is going to in turn result in more efficiency, which
7:55
saves us dollars and cents, which is what we're all trying to do today.
7:58
Yes, exactly. You know that at a clogged filter, I like
8:03
to compare it to trying to drink a really thick milkshake through a straw,
8:07
you know, because that's basically if your filter is not changed on a regular
8:11
basis, that's what your HVAC unit is trying to do is get that air
8:18
through like a thick milkshake through a straw, you know, And that's causing
8:22
it to work harder, which defeats the whole purpose of it being a high
8:24
efficiency unit. Talking to John Lovejoy again for fash Air the day Vland showing

8:48
I can tell you I'm not exactly the handies guy in the world.
8:50
Around my house, my wife is a lot better handying guy than I am.
8:54
But when it comes to changing the filter in our heating and cool union,
8:58
it involves me actually climbing up under the house and getting the old filter
9:01
out. And it doesn't exactly fit the best in the world, so there's
9:05
a lot of maneuver. It's a push, it's in and it's out,
9:07
and so on and so forth. But it can be a little bit difficult.
9:09
But with your company, you can pretty much custom make those to fit
9:13
any any size, whether it's residential or it's it's commercial exactly and that's a
9:18
that's a big benefit for us, and in a lot of cases we can
9:22
build that custom frame that odd size at a cheaper cost than what you could
9:28
buy it at the local box store or yeah, at the you know online
9:35
at you know, one of the online outlets. Let's talk about it's springtime,
9:39
almost summertime now, and people are doing a lot of home improvement projects
9:43
around their home. To be a good time to maybe sign up for your
9:45
service. It is actually, you know, home improvements. I was actually
9:50
that's how I spent my Memorial Day, was, you know, working planning
9:54
things in the backyard. And so home improvement, whether it be inside or
10:00
outside, is something to really take into consideration. Your air filters as well.
10:03
If you're doing inside renovations, then that's extra dust that's being created so
10:11
that we can relate to that here in this building. Yes, that's that's
10:16
why. That's what I've heard. I heard that on one of the sister
10:20
stations this morning. Yeah, we were we're in the process of a massive
10:22
remodeling project here and I was juggle with John and said, we've added to
10:28
about ten more boxes in the studio. So we don't know what's in those
10:31
boxes, but there's something very important in those boxes. And because of this,
10:35
you know, this is an older building and we're completely renovating all new
10:39
studios, all new everything. We've kicked up a little dust and dander up
10:43
up at eleven eleven here, Yes, and that extra dust just means throughout
10:48
the renovation project that filter really needs to be changed to keep the indoor air
10:54
quality, you know, tolerable. Yeah, I hope put it that way.
10:58
With the extra dust. And if you're working outside in your yard,
11:03
you're going to be around all these plants and the grass and everything tends to
11:07
kick up the allergies. So if you are an allergy sufferer, as I
11:11
know, when you come in, a good quality air filter will help reduce
11:16
the effects of being exposed to all that. And I'm presuming you guys offer
11:22
estimates. People can come out. There's no cause, just just come out
11:24
and see what they can do for you. Absolutely, they give me a
11:28
call and I will actually come out and yeah, lots of times we can
11:31
actually even do the estimate just right over the phone. Okay, all right,

12:07
we're going to talk about a program that goes on not only in this

12:13

14:50
to think is as parents or citizens that when kids go home for summertime vacation,
14:54
that they get to enjoy a summer of doing what kids do, swimming,
14:58
playing ball, going to the parks, and you know, just all
15:01
around just being kids. And that may be true, you know, folks,
15:03
for many of them, but sadly that can mean that for a lot
15:09
they no longer have meals that they can count on. We forget that the
15:13
only meal a lot of these kids can depend on is the meal that they
15:18
get at their schools, and when school is out for summer, for many
15:22
kids, that all comes to an end. I want to bring in Doug
15:24
Irwin. Now. Doug has been on the show in the past, and
15:26
he's a director of a program called Backpack Buddy, and he joins us.
15:28
Now, Doug, good morning, welcome back to the show. Ry Dave,
15:31
thank you for the opportunity, Thank you for being there, and you've
15:33
been on the show in the past. But for those who may not be
15:35
familiar with the program, tell us what Backpack Buddy is backpack Buddy dot org.
15:39
We focus on helping kids during the summertime with a little extra food during
15:45
their summer break from school. Traditionally, a lot of kids on Fridays take
15:48
an extra bag home. A lot of civic organizations support schools during the school
15:54
year and give a little extra to get kids through the weekend. Well,
15:58
once last day of school that's stop. So what we've done this is our
16:02
twelfth year where we put together boxes of food and we actually mail food to
16:07
kids because we've seen over time transportational logistics issues about coming to a central point
16:14
in a community to pick up some extra food for the kids during the summertime.
16:18
So what we've developed a program is that we pack up our boxes of
16:22
food. We put about twenty three different items in the box, and we
16:26
mail it to the kids every other week during the summertime to give them a
16:30
little bit extra to help them get through the summer and get back to school
16:33
in August. Now, what areas are we talking about here? We focus
16:37
a lot all the schools in Putnam County, all the schools in Boone County,
16:41
and then also Western Canal Clay and then also we're in Martin County,
16:45
Kentucky as well. So what is in the packages that you mail out?
16:48
What are you looking for. Well, what we do is that we put
16:52
kids favorite six cans of ravioli, soup, fruit, vegetable, neutra green,
17:00
our oatmeal, and then also kids favorite ram and noodles and so this
17:03
is all just mailed out to them directly. How how do you find out
17:07
what kids to mail the items to? Well, one of the things that
17:10
we've done from the very beginning is we work really closely with the local schools
17:14
and because those folks know the need and throughout this process through the last several
17:19
years and through the from the beginning is the care and compassion that our school,
17:25
our teachers, our counselors, our administration have for these kids. And
17:30
we sign ups are offered to everyone uh in the counties that we serve.
17:33
But then also we go back to the to the teachers and the counselor say
17:37
hey, did everybody get signed up? And they look at the lists and
17:41
say, okay, no, these folks really need the help. And we
17:45
really focus on the kids that that get the support during the school year and
17:48
then primarily focus in on the folks that free and reduce lunch in the communities
17:53
and UH. And that's how we work with the schools to get the names.
17:57
So how many approcs give me a ballpark? Figure? How many kids
18:00
you're talking about with this program that are impacted. This year will be supporting
18:06
about eighteen hundred and fifty kids with about seven thousand boxes that we'll be mailing
18:11
out. This is our twelfth year, and later this summer we'll be mailing
18:15
our fifty thousandth box from the beginning. Wow wow, So what is your
18:19
ask of the general public here? Well, one of the things that we
18:23
do is the first Saturday in June in Putnam County at the Tayes Valley Nazarene
18:29
Church, and then also on the second Saturday in Boone County on June the
18:33
eighth at the Madison Civic Center, we have what we call our Community Packing
18:36
Days where we invite all of our community to come and really celebrate what the
18:41
community has done for our kids. Because without this program and without incredible sponsors
18:45
that we have, that this is not possible. So what we do is
18:48
that we purchase all of the food that we will use all summer, and
18:52
we set it out and we pack our boxes. For instance, this coming
18:56
Saturday at ten o'clock again at the tay Tays Valley Nazarene Church. We'll be
19:00
packing thirty eight hundred boxes. Has started ten and if everything goes right,
19:06
we'll be done by noon. And what we do is we take we create
19:10
this huge assembly line and we put in all of the food, all of
19:14
the items into the box. And not only do we put food in the
19:18
box, but we also put in a book and then also a personal enrichment
19:22
flyer that we work with the schools in different community organizations, the informational flyer
19:26
that goes in the box. So all of that's put together, we tape
19:30
the box shut and then we store it for the summer, and then every
19:33
other week we'll come in and we'll put labels on them and mail them out
19:37
and we'll do that the exact same process on June the eighth in Madison at
19:42
the boot at the Madison Civic Center as well, starting at ten o'clock.
19:47
So who typically volunteers for this dog? I mean, what do you like,
19:49
civic groups or just anybody, church groups, whatever, civics groups,
19:53
sports teams, clubs groups. We say that we've got jobs for everybody from
19:57
two to ninety two, that this is a we can you bring bring your
20:03
young ones and bring your wagon and stroller and put the box and push it
20:07
through. We've got kids helping hand out the food. We've got folks that
20:11
can sit down and help us pass out the flyers that go in the boxes.
20:15
So we can anybody and everybody that wouldn't want to come and participate,
20:21
we'd love to have you, and again, give us two hours. You
20:23
know, we'll start at ten and if if we've done everything right, you'll
20:26
be back in your car leaving by noon. And you guys run this thing
20:30
pretty much like a well oiled machine. I mean, every it's like an
20:33
assembly line man. Everybody's got to everybody's got a job. As you said,
20:36
from two to ninety two. Absolutely we've we've we've fine tuned this process
20:40
over the last ten years to eleven years, and I think you know we've
20:45
gotten down pretty good. But Dave Alan showing five. Eddie lie Bright to
20:48
part by Morgan and Morgan. If you're injured hired Morgan to Morgan, America's
20:52
largest injury law firm. We're talking to Doug Garwin from the Backpack Buddy program
20:56
again. We are talking about getting volunteers to pack these boxes and get them
21:00
ready to be mailed. Out. And again this is perfect right now because
21:03
I know kids in school now they are required to do community service. This
21:08
would be a great community service project for them. Absolutely, And we've got
21:11
uh, we've got certificates for all of our students that that that come and
21:17
participate. We've we will have it. We have a tent set up for
21:19
for sign ups and community service certificates, and we've got that taken care of.
21:25
And and we're looking for the student leaders to come and step up.
21:29
We're always looking for additional help and hands to you know, really try to
21:33
start working on that next generation of civic leaders and being involved. And we
21:38
love to have the students, the teams, uh, any school organizations,
21:42
churches, whoever might want to come again, we'd love to talk with them
21:48
about and again, you know, in communities that we're not currently involved in,
21:51
you know, if this is something that that your community be interested in,
21:53
we'd love to talk to folks about sharing the concept the ideas because it's
21:59
uh, you know, we're getting food to kids. I mean it's not
22:03
we're not, it's actually been delivered. It's so we've got this this figured
22:08
out in that way to get to get the support to the kids, and
22:12
we'd love to talk to folks if if they'd be interested, give us your
22:15
phone number and we'll hit this a couple more times before we let you go.
22:18
But give us their phone number, your email, or however somebody's listening
22:22
today that they want to get involved in the best the best part to find
22:23
us is Backpackbuddy dot Org is our website and all the informations there are.
22:29
Contact information is there as well. And you know we've got several Facebook pages,
22:33
but you know backpack Buddy, uh Putnam backpack Buddy, but Boom County,
22:37
so you find us there. What about monetary donations? I mean,
22:41
it takes a lot to pull this off or you set up to take if
22:44
somebody just says, look, I can't be there, I can't help,
22:45
can't give my time, but I would like to make a monitor or maybe
22:48
a business that would like to sponsor absolutely on our website, we've got some
22:52
QR codes and and if you're specifically interested in a specific one community that we're
22:57
in, we've got different opportunities that you can sponsor the entire program, which
23:04
which will go across all of our locations, or we can for Boom County
23:08
Putnam County where break down individual we're directed and again all donations for this would
23:15
be accepted. So I mean, we want our businesses to get involved.
23:17
But if somebody says, hey, I can I can send you twenty bucks,
23:19
I can see you ten bucks or whatever, you certainly would take it.
23:22
Twenty dollars a box that gets the box to a kid for the summertime.
23:26
And how many years have you been how did you personally get involved in
23:29
this? This is something that we that we started. Our church supports kids
23:33
during this during the school year, and we were talking to some of the
23:36
folks that were leading that program and nothing was being done. They tried several
23:40
different things, And my background is the supply chain in logistics and thinking,
23:44
you know, if the right gap for the job, if we can if
23:47
we can get parts you know, shipped in here overnight, how can't we
23:49
feed a kid you know twenty you know, ten to fifteen miles down the
23:52
road. So that's how it all started twelve years ago. Do you need
23:56
any help with people to go out to actually buy the individual products? Do
24:02
you accept food donations if people want to bring it by? Well, because
24:04
of our box, you know, we've got a twelve by twelve box.
24:07
Yeah, you got it down to a science. So we work with Kroger,
24:12
Carrie Parkins and the Kroger and Tayes Valley. He has been a great
24:15
partner with for us for many years. And we purchase all that to make
24:21
sure that we have it all one and then two that it fits in the
24:23
box. Yeah, and then we don't want to discourage anybody from from from
24:29
helping. But I mean that in this kind of a situation, you know
24:32
exactly how many cans or ravioli, how many ramen noodles you can get in
24:34
there, so bring it a bunch of extra straup probably wouldn't help them out.
24:38
Just you know, a monetary donation probably would be better, or or
24:41
your hands correct hands monetary donation. But if if somebody wants to donate food,
24:47
we do have local partners that we will stock the pantries the schools at
24:52
the beginning of the school year, that we will distribute that to them.
24:56
But yeah, it's you know, for instance, we've got twenty four thousand
25:00
cans of raveli coming for Saturday, so another thirteen thousand coming for in Madison,
25:07
So we've got conn Ager and chef boy already hopping for give us some
25:11
I know you can't get into specifics with names, and I wouldn't want you
25:15
to do that, but give us some specific stories that you've seen in those
25:18
past, as you say, twelve years or so, you've been involved,
25:21
some some specific things that you've seen, or some gratitude that you've had reports
25:26
of. We've had several, you know, we get back the stories from
25:30
our from our counselors that that that folks say that, hey, you know
25:34
what, our car broke down during the summer and we didn't have the opportunity
25:38
to replace it, and we were paying a neighbor to take us to the
25:41
store, and when these boxes come every other week, it was certainly helping
25:48
them. Also, we've got a story that that we had one a person
25:55
that just had had an opportunity that had they She when she sent the note
26:02
to us, said hey, I've received these boxes in the past from you
26:04
guys, and they helped us a great deal. She says, But now
26:07
I've got it, I don't need it. Now I've got a new job
26:11
and we've got the opportunity I'm looking to hire folks. Can I put my
26:15
flyer in your boxes? To see if we can maybe find find some employees
26:22
for my opportunity. Like sure, that's great, that's awesome, let's do
26:25
it. So you know, it's helping folks get over the go to get
26:29
over the hump to the other side, and then we see the generosity coming
26:33
back, you know, trying to help others. All right, give us
26:34
the website and other contact information. Again, we're kind of putting the plea
26:40
out there for you that if you can give a couple of hours this Saturday
26:44
or next Saturday or both, you'll be in Tay's Valley this Saturday. You'll
26:47
be at the Madison Soup Center, Boom County the following Saturday. If you
26:49
can give a couple of hours a time. If you can only give an
26:52
hour, that's fine, they'll take it. You can give twenty minutes,
26:55
they'll they'll take it. We'd love to have all hands available and you'll have
26:59
a great time you everybody. It's a it's a lot of camaraderie coming out
27:03
to tays Valley. Nazarene Church is just right on the main drag there in
27:06
Tayese Valley, so it's not hard to find it, right off the exit,
27:08
right off the exit between the exit and the hospital. All right,
27:11
Dan, give us the website backpack buddy dot org and you can find all
27:15
the information there. All right. I appreciate you being here, Doug,
27:18
Thanks lo I, Doug Erwin, thanks a lot man. You're doing great

32:09
a time for Dave to drop a controversial bomb at the very end of the
32:13
show and get out of town before the hate mail hits. Well, no,
32:16
it's nothing like that. I just had something I was going to kind
32:20
of mention that was that was on my mind yesterday. So yesterday was Memorial
32:25
Day, and for many it was a day in the Lake day to get
32:30
the pool open, the unofficial kick off the summer. My wife and I
32:35
kind of spent the day just kind of working around the house doing some grilling,
32:37
you know, that sort of thing. But I did a little video
32:43
yesterday and I put it on my radio page, Dave Allen Radio and Facebook
32:50
and on my ex page, The Dave Allen Show, the artist formally known
32:52
as Twitter. Just something that happened to be on my mind at the time.
32:57
And if you get really bored at work today, I mean really bored,
33:02
maybe can go watch it if you want. First of all, a
33:06
lot of us have no idea what Memorial Day even is. It is not
33:10
a day to thank people for their military service. Now we should do that
33:15
every day. That should be a three sixty five kind of video. I
33:19
get that, but that's not specifically what Memorial Day is for. That's what
33:27
Veterans Day in the Fall is for. It never hurts to thank people for
33:30
their service. As someone who did not serve, I alway, and as
33:35
someone who is the son of someone who did serve, I do always think
33:37
we should thank them. But that's not what Memorial Day is for. Memorial
33:40
Day is a time to honor the brave men and women who died in service
33:47
of their country. That's it, nothing more, nothing less. And as
33:52
a Texter pointed out on the show on Fridays, there's no such thing as
33:57
a happy Memorial Day. Although well intentioned, you should never say have a
34:02
happy Memorial Day because it's a somber time. It's not a time for happiness.
34:08
It's a time of remembrance for those brave souls that gave their lives in
34:17
defense of this country period. Memorial Day is for those who didn't come home.
34:28
That's what the whole idea is. And the video I did yesterday,
34:34
as I said, just something said out on my back deck and just was
34:37
thinking about some things on my mind, and so go check it out.
34:45
The fact that I, like so many others yesterday, could take the time
34:53
to grill some bad for me, sorry Millie Snyder hot dogs, have a
34:59
few adult bevere or tea or diet coke or whatever is your drink of choice,
35:06
have some potato salad. All the fun things on a long weekend like
35:13
Memorial Day weekend are because somebody laid down their life for me and others to
35:22
have that right. And I am going to be the first to admit,
35:25
because I host a political talk show, we are in a bad place in
35:31
this country right now, and I don't think anyone listening to me could say
35:37
otherwise. You know, in my fifty three and a half later this year
35:40
will be fifty four years on this earth. I don't think that it's ever
35:45
been in a worse place than we are right now. We cannot seem to
35:52
agree to even disagree anymore. Liberals are the enemy now. Conservatives are the
35:59
enemy to someone, Okay, just stop it. I'm a conservative Republican who
36:08
quite frankly, is fighting it harder and harder to be a Republican anymore.
36:12
But I'm still trying. But because I disagree with someone on abortion or the
36:20
economy, or the situation with gays or whatever, doesn't make you my enemy.
36:28
At the end of the day, we're all Americans, and it's my
36:35
feeling that we need to start acting like it, or we're not going to
36:37
have a country to fight over. I mean, seemingly gone are the days
36:46
when we could simply agree to disagree. Do you think Ronald Reagan ever looked
36:53
at Ted Kennedy or Tip O'Neil and said that's my enemy. No, no,
37:00
no, no. They would go off to Camp David, they'd work
37:02
it out, and we should be able to simply disagree. And we've got
37:10
to somehow get back to that again. I mean, take a look at
37:16
what just happened in the Republican primary for governor in West Virginia. What I
37:22
heard on these airwaves and what I saw on my television screen and online from
37:28
the supposed adults in the room was simply disgusting. Grow up, grow up
37:35
people. And remember, as we head toward the November general election, it's
37:43
going to get worse if Trump is reelected. Unless he falls asleep on the
37:50
button, it's not going to be the end of the country as we know
37:54
it. The same with Biden. And look as disgusted as many of you
38:00
are with the choices that we have for president in November. Trump is a
38:09
disgusting human being who has made his career on lies and deceit. Someone said
38:14
the other day he's a godly man like my grandpa. Really don't know about
38:16
you, but my grandpa never got involved in with porn stars. But that's
38:22
just me and Biden. There's a reason why it took him so long to
38:28
get to the level that he is now. Remember him totally plagiarizing speeches.
38:32
There's simply no way that you can look at either of those guys and think
38:37
they have any business whatsoever leading this country. But it is what we have.
38:43
And the true leaders in this country are not the men or one day
38:47
the women who reside at sixteen hundred Pennsylvania Avenue. They're the people that simply
38:53
get up in hall of our butts out of bed every morning and go to
38:58
work. And I realize I got off a bit of a tangent this morning,
39:00
But Trump or Biden is not who we are, thank God, who
39:07
we are are the greatest people on God's green earth, and we need to
39:13
start being nicer to each other and forget about the two old codres in Washington,
39:20
neither of which, in my opinion, is fit to run the country.
39:22
But it's the hand we are dealt, So be nice to each other.
39:28
If you're a liberal, take a conservative out for a cup of coffee
39:32
or a beer. If you're conservative, ask the liberal, why do you
39:37
feel so strongly about certain things? Talking? Talking is a good thing,
39:45
you know. Turn off Fox News, turn off News Max, turn off
39:47
CNN, and just listen to each other. Talking is a good thing.
39:52
Shutting out those who may feel differently than you is not. And you've heard
39:59
me talk about my father on the show for My dad was a decorated Vietnam
40:02
Vet. Although he was not killed in the line of duty, he died
40:07
in effect for his country because he died of poisoning because of Agent Orange.
40:12
He once told me, he said, and he was not political at all.
40:15
My dad was not a political guy. He just wasn't. My dad
40:21
was a fundamentalist Christian who kind of believed this is not my world, so
40:24
he didn't didn't really take part in politics. That was him, and we
40:28
disagreed on that. But that was just him. But he told me,
40:30
he said, Look, when I was in Vietnam, I didn't care if
40:35
the guy next to me was a Republican, a Democrat, or a liberal
40:38
conservative. I only cared that he had my back. So I'll just leave

I wouldn't want a time travel to the nineteen sixties South. Even though today
41:20

41:22

41:25
perspective. That's an excellent point, there really is, Texas. What about
41:34
going to the cemetery to visit a loved one who served that just passed recently
41:37
and more. Yeah, I'm not going to say that you you know what
41:38
you can and can't do. I mean, that's that's that's just one of
41:43
those things. I just want us to remember why we have the three day
41:45
weekend. It's not to go by it is. I mean, people use
41:49
it as an excuse to go buy line lawn furniture and to open their pools
41:52
and things. And that's all well and good. At your time. You
41:53
do what you want to do with it, but just remember, just remember
41:55
why why you have that, right, Texas Dave, yesterday was Memorial Day
42:01
and Trump was calling people's scum and going on a rampage instead of remembering this
42:06
day. But he just hates our military, and we voters are getting tired
42:08
of it. Yeah, I don't. I don't. There's not a thing
42:15
in that that I can disagree with. Texas Dave. Just pray that Trump

46:00
break I did a little little recon worked a little information fact finding via text,
46:07
and I am told that the work is set to begin on that store
46:10
sometime in the second or third week of June. That is what I am
46:15
told Texas Day. Both presidential candidates have a lot of flaws, for sure,
46:19
but look at the policies they support. It is clear that President Trump
46:22
has the best polities for the best policies for the country. Thanks says a
46:28
Texter, a somewhat tragic story that could have been a lot worse. From
46:32
the West Side. Overnight, six people were sent to the hospital after a
46:36
front porch that they were holding a candidlight vigil on collapsed. There were a
46:43
dozen or so on the porch on Jackson Street when it gave away around nine
46:45
to fifteen or so last night. Now they were gathered there for a candlelight
46:50
vigil for a person who was shot to death Saturday night on the West Side.
46:52
They have a story posted about at wv metronews dot com. Good news
46:58
is the injuries there were not considered to be life threatening. Another wild couple
47:05
of days weatherwise in the States, so a lot of people without power,
47:07
and a tornado was confirmed to a touchdown Sunday afternoon in the Windfield area.
47:14
In the meantime, FEMA representatives are in the area to sign up residents who
47:19
had storm damage going back to early April. FEMA opened up their State Federal
47:23
Disaster Recovery Center at the Tyler Mountain Fire Department across Lanes earlier this morning.

your favorite Hustons, get a large a ten inch Pepperoni pizza and an order

of cinnamon bites with icing only twenty ninety nine at Huston's. Will he or
48:14
won't he run for governor? Of course, talking about Senator Joe Manchin,
48:17
it is a subject of Hoppy's commentary today, heard on the air this morning
48:21
and available for you to read at wv metro news dot com. Those that
48:25
are closest to the senator say he is not running, that his support is
48:30
one hundred percent behind the Democratic nomine Huntington Mayor Steve Williams and those close to
48:34
him looking at you. Former Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, great friend of mine,
48:37
frequent guests on this show and on talk Line. Danny sent me a
48:40
text while I was on the air last week saying that I could quote him
48:44
that Joe is not running. So I did, Danny, I just did.
48:49
Brad mcklahoney reported last week that two sources, though close to Mansion,
48:52
have confirmed he is being encouraged to enter the race, one source saying that
48:59
a lot of the lobbying is coming from moderate Republicans who are reluctant to support
49:04
the actual Republican nominee, Attorney General Patrick Morrissey. A lot of this coming
49:08
because the fact that Morrissey had a very narrow win in the Republican primary.
49:14
When you divide it out by four, it was a hard fought battle between
49:19
Morrissey, Miller, Capitol, and Warner, with Morrissey coming out on top.
49:23
The Democrat nominee, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams talked in the interview with Brad.
49:29
Brad actually I think ran into him at the Capitol last week about the
49:31
forty year friendship that he's had with Joe Manchin and basically added that the rumors
49:38
don't have any legs to them. Well, Hoppy's commentary this morning talks about
49:43
Mansion attending an event at the Greenbrier Resort last week. I know a little
49:47
about it because I was there also. It was the Game Changer anti drug
49:52
event, and the commentary says the lobbying for him to run really intense during
50:00
that event. I can tell you I wasn't part of any of that,
50:02
but I can tell you Wednesday night, I did talk to Senator Mansion about
50:06
I actually ran into him. I just happened to get up during the event
50:09
before it got started. Jenifer Garner, by the way, did a great
50:12
job as the guest speaker, and I just happened to get up and passed
50:15
Senator Manson. I shook hands with him and I just kind of said,
50:20
well, you certainly are the center of attention these days, and he just
50:24
smiled and said something like, well, people love to talk and that's all
50:28
it is. But as I said when I was on with With with Dave
50:32
Wilson was in for Hoppy on Talk Line West week, the good Senator could
50:37
put all this dress at some point many people thought he would do he would
50:40
do that at some point over the Memorial Holiday weekend, which which he did
50:45
not. I think, with all due respect, I think Joe likes the
50:49
attention. I mean, we all like attention, we like feeling wanted.
50:53
And I never thought for a minute that Joe Mansion was simply going to write
50:57
off into the sunset after he announced he would not seek reelection for that sentency.
51:01
I don't see him going away anytime soon, although when you consider how
51:05
long he's been in the political game, no one certainly could blame him if
51:08
he did. Go Read Hoppy's commentary on the website speaking to mister Kirschwell.
51:13
He's back in the big chair today after a week and a day off.
51:15
Brad McIlhenny will continue the Mansion for Governor Talk puts. Chris Stirewald is on
51:20
talking to Trump trial and other topics. By the way, if you haven't
51:22
seen Starwalt show on News Nation The Hill on Sunday, it's Sunday Morning's attending
51:28
him really really really good show and he always manages to squeeze a little West
51:30
Virginia in there as well. So Starwald is on with Hoppy today, plus
51:35
a lot of talk about the Libertarians lately, especially since Trump picked up a
51:38
lot of booze at the Libertarian convention over the weekend in DC. Taylor Richmond
51:44
is the state chair of the Libertarian Party. He's on with Hoppy today,
51:46
as is the Libertarian Party for a candidate for Governor, Erica Kalinitch. Hoppy
51:52
will spend some time talking to both of them. It's also going to talk
51:54
about the shortage of teachers in West Virginia. That's talk Line with Hobby coming
51:59
up at ten on this show Tomorrow. I'm gonna spend some time talking about
52:01
the ongoing traffic and construction headaches in Kaanasa City. A big story about that
52:07
in the paper last week. Chad Robinson, who's the city councilman who's kind
52:09
of fired of, but he's gonna join us talk about that on the show.
52:13
Gotta go. Thank you to my guest today, Thank you to the
52:15
A Train Anthony Harmon. Hoppy back in the big chair for talk Line coming
52:19
