Latest / Non-Toxic Living / The Mold Problem You Can’t See - Dr. Ashley Beckman Breaks It Down
Transcript
- 0:00So mold often will suppress the immune system, which then allows other pathogens that you already have kind of circulating in your system, waiting for their opportunity to come out.
- 0:10For me, it was Lyme.
- 0:11Usually people say, oh, I have Epstein-Barr, or I have Hashimoto's.
- 0:15All of these clients with any autoimmune issue, I always check for mold.
- 0:19It's a really common theme, and I would say that
- 0:22You can have mold in your home.
- 0:23Yeah.
- 0:24Or you can have Dr. Ashley level mold, which is called elevated mold.
- 0:29Yes.
- 0:29Where the home inspector says, get out of your house as soon as possible.
- 0:33And the reason why, if you live in a moldy home, what are three things you should do with your personal items?
- 0:39So if there's something you can clean, I think people ideally should clean it.
- 0:43And you just need to...
- 0:48Dr. Ashley, great to have you on the show.
- 0:51We shared some stuff on social media that did really well.
- 0:55Lots of people learned it was about mold.
- 0:56I'm sure we'll get into that today.
- 0:58But first, introduce yourself.
- 1:00Like, how did you, you know, wind up doing what you're doing?
- 1:03You've worked in clinics in Hollywood.
- 1:04You've helped the rich and famous get well.
- 1:08And you're doing all kinds of cool things, especially around detoxification, which is near and dear to my heart.
- 1:14So we're just besties right off the bat.
- 1:16So thanks again.
- 1:18Sure.
- 1:18So my name is Dr. Ashley Beckman.
- 1:21I was always kind of a sensitive kid to chemicals.
- 1:24And again, it kind of showed up a little bit maybe into my teens and 20s.
- 1:29And so I just realized I was a little bit different, kind of canary in a coal mine type of thing.
- 1:34Me too.
- 1:35Yes.
- 1:36Fragrance was the big one at the time that I noticed, right?
- 1:40So, again, I just felt like I was very sensitive to things.
- 1:43And so that was unique at the time.
- 1:46And I got into my family was kind of into making kombucha at home and eating raw or trying all these different things.
- 1:55This is in California?
- 1:56Yes, in California.
- 1:57Much more progressive over there when it comes to natural health.
- 2:00Yes.
- 2:00Yeah.
- 2:01And so I basically was exposed to a lot by being in California, but I really felt and was passionate about as food and herbs as medicine, not really taking traditional over-the-counter things at the time.
- 2:15And so I basically just started to learn about that.
- 2:19I worked for a naturopath who specialized in Lyme, and then she introduced me to homeopathy.
- 2:24So I studied under amazing classical homeopaths.
- 2:28And it kind of grew from there.
- 2:30He said, if you love herbs and food is medicine, you need to go to Chinese medicine school.
- 2:35So then I did that.
- 2:35But I've always been very interested in detox and toxins and how to get them out of our life and make better choices.
- 2:43So yes, I lived, I had just made my practice virtual.
- 2:47So I was home and this was a big switch from seeing 30 people a day in a busy office in Beverly Hills, had over two and a half hours driving commute every day.
- 2:58So I thought this is gonna be so easy.
- 3:00I'm gonna feel great.
- 3:01I'm gonna be home with my daughter.
- 3:03And I felt so sick, crazy brain fog, horrible joint pain, migraines again.
- 3:10And this was the way I hadn't felt in about 15 years.
- 3:12Mm-hmm.
- 3:13And back in about maybe 2005 or 2006, I had woken up one day and my ankles hurt so bad I couldn't walk.
- 3:22I was getting migraines all the time.
- 3:24And so I went to my traditional doctor and she said, well, you probably have an autoimmune issue.
- 3:28I don't think it's going to show up in labs for probably 10 years and there's nothing you can do.
- 3:34So I was in grad school at the time for acupuncture, and I did deduce that gluten and dairy and sugar made the joint pain much worse.
- 3:43Yeah.
- 3:44So I removed those, and it worked for about 15 years until I was in this home and we found mold, right?
- 3:50So when you're working from home, you had a higher level of exposure, not just sleeping.
- 3:54Now you're 16.
- 3:55It was in my office too, right?
- 3:57In my home office, I basically was actually a room that had a leak that I didn't know about.
- 4:03Yes.
- 4:04So it just ignited.
- 4:05It was a kryptonite, you know, and you expose yourself like, yeah, like Superman.
- 4:10If he gets a little bit of kryptonite, he could get out, right?
- 4:12Yes.
- 4:13Yeah.
- 4:13A lot of kryptonite, you know, can kill you.
- 4:16Yes.
- 4:16So that mold activated Lyme, which I had had probably for a long time.
- 4:21Explain that.
- 4:22Explain why the mold did that.
- 4:25So mold often will suppress the immune system, which then allows other pathogens that you already have kind of circulating in your system, waiting for their opportunity to come out.
- 4:36Yeah.
- 4:37So for me, again, it was, it was Lyme.
- 4:39A lot of people have Epstein-Barr and that gets reactivated or different viruses and things like that.
- 4:45But for me, it was Lyme.
- 4:47And I think that's an important thing because when you see people like their Lyme is back, right?
- 4:52Usually their immune system got weak for some reason.
- 4:55It could have been another, it could have been a toxin like mold.
- 4:58It could have been a trauma.
- 4:59Yes.
- 5:00That's a big one.
- 5:01They can always set this off.
- 5:02So anytime it,
- 5:03your immune system lowers, you know, parasites can take over, uh,
- 5:09Again, I have Lyme.
- 5:09I always have had it.
- 5:10Like if you measure in my microbiome, my microbiology has spirochetes.
- 5:14Yes.
- 5:15You can find it on a lab, right?
- 5:19Yeah.
- 5:19And I may have during my, you know, mercury lowers your immune system.
- 5:26It's immunosuppressive.
- 5:28Mold is very immunosuppressive.
- 5:30Yeah.
- 5:31Like that's one of its top jobs, right?
- 5:33It just crushes the old immune system.
- 5:36I never had active Lyme, right?
- 5:38So I would have known it.
- 5:40It hits you like a train.
- 5:41Yes.
- 5:42But I could have, right?
- 5:44And I think that it's a lot of the stuff that we cure ourselves with antibiotics and all these things, including Lyme, it doesn't get rid of all of it.
- 5:52Like, I think that's an important thing to say.
- 5:54Like you strep throat, you just didn't get exposed to strep throat again.
- 6:00Your immune system,
- 6:01got low enough that this bacteria or virus takes over again.
- 6:06Yeah, it resurfaces.
- 6:07Yeah, and then like even I get tinea versicolor, right?
- 6:11And if I get stressed, my skin microbiome changes because it gets out of balance, right?
- 6:16So all of us have tinea.
- 6:18Right.
- 6:19Yeah.
- 6:19Is that right, Tania?
- 6:20Am I saying that right?
- 6:21Yeah.
- 6:21All of us have this different, we have fungus, we have bacteria, we have virus, we have all of this, we have bugs everywhere, like crawling all over you.
- 6:28Isn't that kind of gross?
- 6:30But it's part, we're a garden on our skin, right?
- 6:32And every area has a different, this garden is different than this garden.
- 6:38It's different than this garden.
- 6:40Yeah.
- 6:41And then they're different than this garden and this garden.
- 6:43Yep.
- 6:44this garden, right?
- 6:45I mean, there's some overlap in bugs, especially in the mouth and gut.
- 6:50If your immune system lowers certain that are holding back something that's in balance with your body can come out of balance.
- 6:58And then that creates a chronic infection.
- 7:01And it can show up all kinds of different ways.
- 7:05So I think that's really important for folks to understand.
- 7:07I don't know if it's told.
- 7:09Like you took an antibiotic, why am I getting strep again?
- 7:10Because you still have it.
- 7:11It's still there.
- 7:12Just they kept it at bay.
- 7:14Didn't really kill it off entirely.
- 7:16Yeah, and it's even worse when using an antibiotic because you didn't train your immune system to learn to fight it off long term, right?
- 7:23This is why, you know, people that live in Africa do not get malaria for the most part, right?
- 7:32They build up a tolerance to that.
- 7:35Is it malaria?
- 7:36Is that a bacteria?
- 7:37It's actually very close to Lyme.
- 7:39Yeah.
- 7:39Oh, wow.
- 7:40Mm-hmm.
- 7:41So a lot of these anti-malaria medications and things like that, or I guess it's kind of closest to Babesia, right?
- 7:48So one of the blood parasites that is in the Lyme family, but very close to malaria.
- 7:54Wow.
- 7:54See, I love learning new things.
- 7:56I was going to say, you were mentioning this.
- 7:57You mentioned all those microbiome areas.
- 8:01And I always talk to clients.
- 8:02And it's interesting because I say it a little differently, but that we're basically this world for all of these creatures inside of us.
- 8:10And what happens, unfortunately, right, is when we feed them sugar or things like that and things that they love to consume.
- 8:18And they're driving a lot of our cravings, right?
- 8:21Yeah.
- 8:22Through the vagus nerve, right?
- 8:23Is that how it happens?
- 8:24Through the gut?
- 8:24Yeah, the gut-brain connection, too.
- 8:27And then, so I always, you know, people feel so down on themselves for having these cravings they can't control.
- 8:33But it's all these critters inside of us that want their food, right?
- 8:37And so then we feed them.
- 8:39it becomes that we add to their population.
- 8:42And a lot of the times what we're reacting to is their waste.
- 8:45So all these endotoxins are huge problems.
- 8:49So it's not always about killing things off, right?
- 8:52It's about balance.
- 8:53You just need a healthy, happy population where we can take care of things and have it run smoothly.
- 8:59But, you know, a lot of times we get, or a certain pathogen gets vilified, right?
- 9:03Or whatnot, but it's all about balance.
- 9:05Yeah, that's beautifully said.
- 9:07So talk about...
- 9:08Just really quick, just to go back there, right?
- 9:12So some of the bugs that we have in our body, especially if they're out of balance, they produce endotoxins that make us sick.
- 9:21Talk about that a little bit.
- 9:22Sure.
- 9:23I mean, basically, you know, these...
- 9:26Again, these, I always call them critters, make it a little nicer.
- 9:28I like critters.
- 9:30But they basically, you know, there's yeast, there's mycotoxins, there's so many fungal species and bacteria and viruses and things.
- 9:39And again, it's often the waste that's so toxic to us, and that shows up as skin conditions.
- 9:46That's a lot of the joint pain.
- 9:48A lot of people don't realize that our joints...
- 9:50kind of like the sinus cavity and places, it's a happy home for these microorganisms to live.
- 9:57Same with the gum line.
- 9:59When people do, I'm sure, right, they get things extracted.
- 10:03And then you look at the gum line and then if they run a path panel, pathogen panel, there's a lot of Lyme, there are a lot of bacteria in there.
- 10:11Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 10:12So we did that with my wife after her cavitations.
- 10:16Yes.
- 10:16We took a sample, and it was full of all kinds of toxins.
- 10:21I didn't do it on every side because the treatment's usually the same, right?
- 10:25Because that stuff gets released when you open it up, and you can get sick after getting a cavitation, which is really funny, right?
- 10:32Yeah.
- 10:33Uh, that, that, that that's like voodoo, voodoo science, right?
- 10:38Like a cavitation is real and you can measure the toxins and, uh, I mean all kinds of things, lots of toxins, like lots of pathogens, parasites living in this little capsule, you know, safely away from your immune system inside of a cavitation.
- 10:54I've measured it.
- 10:55So, you know, is the labs a conspiracy?
- 10:58Yeah.
- 10:59When I first got sick, I thought so.
- 11:01So maybe you too.
- 11:02I'm like, they can't have heavy metals and mercury.
- 11:05That's not true.
- 11:06It's not coming out of me.
- 11:07I'm not urinating heavy metals right now.
- 11:11Is that how you were?
- 11:12Oh, yeah.
- 11:13This challenge test isn't going to work.
- 11:15I actually sent a split sample when I did my first heavy metal urine challenge test kit.
- 11:18I sent one to an analytical laboratory in Idaho.
- 11:21And then I sent it to doctor's data because I didn't trust the lab.
- 11:26I thought they were lying to me.
- 11:27I was like, they're just going to lie to me to get my money and they're lying to me.
- 11:31And this is actually, you know, like.
- 11:32A scan.
- 11:33Yeah, it's all a scam.
- 11:34Yeah.
- 11:35And then I saw, and that's what it took for me is to see, I thought the labs were lying to me because they're not mainstream labs.
- 11:41Right.
- 11:41Right.
- 11:42And I wasn't like Mr.
- 11:43Doctor.
- 11:43Right.
- 11:44Right.
- 11:44But I was, you know, I was pretty disillusioned at the time though.
- 11:48I mean, I was pretty beat up.
- 11:49I mean, I did go the medical route.
- 11:51Physiatrists, psychologists, therapists, physiotherapists.
- 11:56You know, of course, chiropractors, you know, I went everywhere, right?
- 12:00And so I didn't trust, right?
- 12:02I'm like, how can this... And then I saw the data and I'm like, oh my gosh.
- 12:06And then eventually got some of the blood work that you run for mold patients, you know, like upper level hormones, the hypothalamus pituitary hormones, MSH, VIP, C4A, you know.
- 12:19And so I also use the urine mycotoxin testing.
- 12:22Yeah, which didn't exist in 2005.
- 12:24Nope.
- 12:25Yeah.
- 12:25And I use Vibrant a lot.
- 12:27I love them.
- 12:28Yeah, they're very popular right now.
- 12:30Well, and they test for about 29 markers versus 11 for the very common ones.
- 12:36And so, again, if you don't test something, you're not going to test it.
- 12:3829 mycotoxins?
- 12:39Yes.
- 12:39Yeah.
- 12:40And I told this story on another lab.
- 12:42I think it was with Dr. Jabin.
- 12:44I looked at getting a mycotoxin test.
- 12:47Mm-hmm.
- 12:48I may have been like 10 years ago.
- 12:49Right.
- 12:49And wanted $1,000 for one mycotoxin.
- 12:52Oh, my gosh.
- 12:52I priced it out because you know that mycotoxins cause, I'm like, so why are we measuring?
- 12:56This was in my house, right?
- 12:58So why are we measuring for mold?
- 12:59Why can't we just measure for mycotoxins?
- 13:01It's the end product.
- 13:03Can I do a dust sample?
- 13:04And I want to find out if I have mycotoxins in my home, right?
- 13:08Makes sense.
- 13:09That's what's likely making me sick or could make me sick.
- 13:13$1,000 for one.
- 13:13I'm like, well, we'll do the VCS test instead.
- 13:16I want to do a visual contrast sensitivity test on me, and that's much cheaper.
- 13:20Did you pass or fail?
- 13:22I passed.
- 13:23Yeah.
- 13:23Right.
- 13:23I was one of the guys that had really good acuity, not acuity, contrast anyway.
- 13:28So mold did affect me.
- 13:30Right.
- 13:30I barely passed.
- 13:32Because I have people pass it that have a lot of mold toxicity, so I don't use it.
- 13:37Yeah.
- 13:37I was just curious.
- 13:38Yeah.
- 13:38Yeah, I did would barely pass it.
- 13:40Yeah.
- 13:40But then I did.
- 13:42So visual contrast, we'll talk about it real quick.
- 13:44So it doesn't measure acuity.
- 13:47It essentially allows you to see different shades of gray, like contrast, like on a black and white TV.
- 13:53So you turn it down and it blurs out and you can't see it.
- 13:56And then you turn it up and the contrast, the blacks and the grays, you can see the picture.
- 14:00So I don't probably that's not communicating.
- 14:02So my baby boomers and people my age, you know.
- 14:05Yeah.
- 14:05What are we?
- 14:05Gen Xers.
- 14:06I'm a Gen Xer.
- 14:07Yeah.
- 14:08Yeah.
- 14:08Gen X. Yeah.
- 14:10I'm 40, 49.
- 14:1046.
- 14:11So you're Gen X-er.
- 14:12Yeah.
- 14:13I think 40 is the cutoff for millennials.
- 14:17I think if you're 40 right now, they probably know black and white TV too.
- 14:21So contrast.
- 14:22Yes.
- 14:22Right.
- 14:22Your ability to see contrast, like turning it up and down.
- 14:24And so it gets lighter and lighter.
- 14:26So you're turning it down more and more on the TV till it becomes a white screen.
- 14:30And some people –
- 14:33the toxins affect your ability to see contrast.
- 14:38We can get into the hyperperfusion and the optic nerve and all the science of a bit.
- 14:42It affects your ability to see contrast, which is Shoemaker developed it.
- 14:45There was an eye test called visual contrast sensitivity.
- 14:48He has since...
- 14:49created another test, but it's just a visual contrast card.
- 14:53And people that are in mold, one of the symptoms is you lose your ability to see contrast.
- 14:58Yeah.
- 14:58Because it's affecting the optic nerve, not your visual, not your color, not your... Myopathy.
- 15:04Myopathy.
- 15:05There are a lot of people that mold does impact their vision.
- 15:09It's, again, a loss of that clarity.
- 15:13It's very common.
- 15:14But again, from the Chinese perspective, the eyes are the sensory organ of the liver and certain mycotoxins attack the liver.
- 15:23And then again, in general, most people's liver and gallbladder are just very congested from our world with all these toxins on a day-to-day basis.
- 15:31So that's what you were talking about, right?
- 15:33The visual contrast, I passed, but barely.
- 15:37But here's the good news, right?
- 15:39When I did more rounds of co-styreming back then and then carbon, right?
- 15:44Yes, yeah.
- 15:45Like TCF, true carbon cleanse.
- 15:49My contrast got, I could see all the way.
- 15:52Yeah, so it improved, but I didn't fail, right?
- 15:56And then what else helped is heavy metal detox.
- 16:00Actually, I was able to see better.
- 16:02So I noticed that as well.
- 16:03Yeah, that makes sense.
- 16:04So it was a combination of the two for contrast as well.
- 16:07Yep.
- 16:08So there you go.
- 16:11But now you can test the mycotoxins coming out in your urine.
- 16:15Yes.
- 16:15Which can come from in the different kinds.
- 16:17Yes.
- 16:19Some can be coming from corn.
- 16:20Some can be coming from.
- 16:21peanuts, some can be coming from coffee, and then there's ones that are associated with mold.
- 16:25Can you talk about that testing?
- 16:27Sure.
- 16:28Yeah.
- 16:28So basically, with testing in general, none of it's perfect, right?
- 16:33So unfortunately, this urine mycotoxin testing, you don't know if this is going to be from your past or recent exposure.
- 16:42You can kind of... Or from a hotel trip.
- 16:45Yes.
- 16:45No pun intended.
- 16:46Or vacation.
- 16:47You know, again, people ask— And Cancun.
- 16:49Yes, that's what I'm saying.
- 16:50Tropical vacation can— A mission trip to Mexico.
- 16:52—create some mycotoxin accumulation.
- 16:58But yes, and so unfortunately, a lot of clients I get to, you know, they had a house that they realized in hindsight was their childhood home that was probably moldy, right?
- 17:09Or had a lot of leaks and things like that.
- 17:12So—
- 17:14It's kind of hard to even fathom that your body would contain these things for decades, but it does.
- 17:21And then it's usually you've had multiple exposures.
- 17:24And so often— As you go, you're going to the restaurant.
- 17:27You walk into—there's moldy molds everywhere.
- 17:30Yes.
- 17:31And again, right, our goal is not to create a mold-free home because it's pretty impossible to do that.
- 17:39It is.
- 17:40And this is something that's interesting, right?
- 17:42So again, remediation has a huge place, right?
- 17:46But a lot of remediations fail.
- 17:48People have to do multiple.
- 17:50And then again...
- 17:52People, you know, if they move, if they didn't remediate, but they move again, your chances of getting another home with mold, it's 50 percent on average.
- 18:00You're going to have to.
- 18:01Yeah.
- 18:01And then people get rid of all their furniture.
- 18:03But when you think about where the furniture comes from, if it's shipped over on a barge, if it's in a department store, to me, most of those are also moldy.
- 18:13Right.
- 18:14So, again, it's a really tricky and tricky.
- 18:18financially disruptive incident in someone's life, right?
- 18:23Definitely can be.
- 18:24We're going to get back to your story in a minute, but keep going.
- 18:26And then again, it's, so it's a really big piece to clean up the home, right?
- 18:30You need your home to be a safe healing environment.
- 18:33And then at the same time, you know, we, you need to make sure and address the body too, and make sure that you still have, you know, the means and education to do that.
- 18:43Cause that's also very important.
- 18:45Yeah, I agree.
- 18:46So here you are.
- 18:47Yes.
- 18:48You had the means and education and you're moldy at home thinking you're going to have the good life, hanging out with your daughter, working from home.
- 18:55Yeah.
- 18:55And the bottom fell out again.
- 18:57Yes.
- 18:58Yeah.
- 18:59Let's talk about that.
- 19:00Sure.
- 19:00What happened and how did you recover?
- 19:02Yeah.
- 19:03So this is a thing, too, is people want a magic pill.
- 19:07They want one supplement, one treatment.
- 19:09Oh, if I do, you know, ozone, will this speed up the process?
- 19:14Yeah, yeah.
- 19:14Right?
- 19:15So, again, I was working with a lot of lime on top of the mold.
- 19:21They kind of run in parallel a lot of the time.
- 19:23They do, right?
- 19:24Because the immune system gets shut down and the lime gets pretty common.
- 19:27Yeah.
- 19:27Yeah, commonly activated.
- 19:29So any of my Lyme patients that I have, we definitely, I always check for mold.
- 19:33And I've yet to see someone without it.
- 19:38Did you measure C3A?
- 19:39Because I know in...
- 19:40I do the urine mycotoxin testing pretty much exclusively.
- 19:44Yes, because I send everything to their home and you do it from home.
- 19:48And then the same, if someone comes to me, usually people say, oh, I have Epstein-Barr or I have Hashimoto's, right?
- 19:55All of these clients with any autoimmune issue, I always check for mold.
- 19:59And again, it's in over 90% of my clients and I've looked at thousands of labs.
- 20:05Yeah.
- 20:05So it's really common theme.
- 20:08And I would say that the part that I'm most passionate about, right, is that most of these clients have been overlooked and dismissed by their practitioner, holistic or not, right?
- 20:19The traditional doctors don't really believe in it, but I have so many clients that have said, oh, you know, my chiro or whomever, you know, my doctor, my naturopath said mold isn't that big of a deal.
- 20:30That's still happening.
- 20:31Still happening.
- 20:32Yeah.
- 20:33So I'm very passionate about educating people, practitioners, whomever about mold and just it's common.
- 20:41It's so prevalent.
- 20:42We talked about this last time again, because it's so prevalent in all the homes.
- 20:48It's often a piece of someone in the family's health puzzle.
- 20:51Right.
- 20:52A lot of the people I work with, they're little kids.
- 20:55They're born into a house with mold.
- 20:57And those are these usually ones with chronic eczema as a baby, right?
- 21:02And or just some sort of recurring viral infection.
- 21:05So when I have these little kids, when we don't know what's wrong, it's an easy test.
- 21:09It's urine, right?
- 21:10It's simple.
- 21:12And usually everyone in the family is exposed, but it doesn't always mean that everyone gets sick per se.
- 21:20Correct.
- 21:21So in the mycotoxin test, does it measure just the mycotoxins that come specifically from molds or does it do it from mycotoxins from things you may be eating because you can get it other places?
- 21:31So it's going to break it down into a lot of them.
- 21:35There's a crossover.
- 21:36It could be foodborne or it's from a moldy building.
- 21:39Right.
- 21:39So but it does break it down into different groups.
- 21:43And I would say there aren't that many things that I really ask people to eliminate.
- 21:48But again, making their coffee be mold-free tested is a big thing.
- 21:53And I do ask people to remove peanuts because they're so high in aflatoxins.
- 21:58Yeah, which is a nasty.
- 21:59A really bad one.
- 22:00Yeah.
- 22:00Right?
- 22:00Like that, we actually have a choice and it's pretty clear cut.
- 22:03Yeah.
- 22:04So but grains in general, I don't ask people to cut out all grains.
- 22:08Ideally, we need the organic, you know, glyphosate free oats if you're someone who has grains and oats.
- 22:15But I don't you know, I don't say you could cut it if you just had to cut out something for based on every single toxin that we're exposed to.
- 22:24There's really not much left.
- 22:26Yeah.
- 22:26Right.
- 22:26Oh, that's what's, what can I eat?
- 22:27Yeah.
- 22:28I'm just going to eat air, you know, but it's about, um, you know, education, right?
- 22:33And I'm, you know, this is what, what I do.
- 22:36Right.
- 22:37It's so important.
- 22:38Yeah.
- 22:38Cause it's about choices, right?
- 22:40And when you have the right knowledge, then it's up to that person what they decide.
- 22:45Right.
- 22:45And especially you're making these decisions for your kids until a certain age.
- 22:50And then they go out and make their own decisions.
- 22:52But you need that foundation in place.
- 22:54At least your home ideally would be as healthy as possible with all the right foods.
- 22:59And then when they're out, you know, they get other things.
- 23:03Yeah, I'm with you.
- 23:04I'm with you.
- 23:04So you got moldy.
- 23:08Yes.
- 23:09And I like keeping open loops, right?
- 23:13Everyone's still listening, like what happened, right?
- 23:16And I don't mean like, oh, you didn't take a magic pill.
- 23:19I think there is no like- Oh, yeah, sorry.
- 23:21Yeah.
- 23:22It took a long time to recover, for sure.
- 23:24So did you, you found the mold, you remediated the mold-
- 23:28We did not.
- 23:29I was in a rental and their solution was to fog.
- 23:33And I said, okay, sure, let's fog.
- 23:35And let me retest my things.
- 23:38And I have pictures of all the test plates, which again, it's not the most accurate, but it's a nice option.
- 23:43So I tested a bunch of my furniture and all filled with mold.
- 23:47Every single thing, you know, that the foggers claim would be purely clean.
- 23:52And it was growing again.
- 23:54Oh, yeah.
- 23:55It was, it did nothing.
- 23:57You fixed the water leak though.
- 23:58We moved.
- 24:00They weren't going to fix anything.
- 24:01Okay.
- 24:02Yeah.
- 24:03So when you're renting, this is a common issue, right?
- 24:06It is.
- 24:08And it's tough because the real estate industry doesn't want to.
- 24:12No.
- 24:13This is a real problem and they don't want it because it could shut down deal flow.
- 24:16Yeah.
- 24:17And shut down deals.
- 24:20Which is really, oh, it sounds like a hospital, right?
- 24:23Yeah.
- 24:23Never mind.
- 24:24We don't want to lose deals.
- 24:25Don't tell people they can, you know.
- 24:27Get better otherwise.
- 24:27Get better without it.
- 24:28Oh, man, I just put two and two together at real estate and hospitals.
- 24:34And hospitals have a lot of mold.
- 24:35Yeah, they do.
- 24:37Yes, that's a really, I mean, in addition to other things, but yeah.
- 24:42So you wind up moving.
- 24:43Yeah.
- 24:43So I moved.
- 24:45And then again, we actually, too, it was very interesting.
- 24:48So I had a home inspector come in.
- 24:51And so you'll appreciate this maybe.
- 24:53I basically had been seeing this pattern in all my patients where I was seeing mold toxicity.
- 24:58And I said, I know what to do in the body, but I don't really know about what to do with all the belongings.
- 25:03Mm-hmm.
- 25:04And I just thought, oh, because I really am very passionate about this, I want mold toxicity to be my niche.
- 25:11Like this has come to me for a reason, right?
- 25:14Yeah.
- 25:15And then probably it was less than a week.
- 25:18Then we got a call from the water company and said, there's some crazy leak happening at your house.
- 25:24You need to get it inspected.
- 25:25The new house that you moved into.
- 25:26Yeah.
- 25:27Sorry, this is the one where we had the big issue.
- 25:30But I literally had just said, I want this to be my specialty.
- 25:33And then within a week, I found out I was living in a home with mold.
- 25:40I stopped testing at six rooms because they were all really bad.
- 25:44So you were living in an elevated mold.
- 25:46Yes.
- 25:47And it was a beautiful home.
- 25:48You can't see it.
- 25:49No.
- 25:50None was visible, right?
- 25:51Yeah.
- 25:51To me.
- 25:53But I literally had decided, you know, I love working with people, but this piece is missing about that I don't know about what to do with everything should you get exposed in your home is...
- 26:02you know, what to do about the home.
- 26:04So I got thrown into that.
- 26:07And very quickly, my inspector said, you need, you guys need to get out of this house actually within a month if you can.
- 26:13And I was like, this is Los Angeles.
- 26:15And this is a big house.
- 26:17There's no way.
- 26:18So we ended up getting out in six weeks.
- 26:21But I mean, it was a huge process.
- 26:23I learned about what to clean, what to throw away.
- 26:26You had to.
- 26:27All these things.
- 26:28Yeah.
- 26:28I've been there.
- 26:29Yeah.
- 26:29And it's really overwhelming.
- 26:32Right.
- 26:32I feel for anybody that goes through this.
- 26:35You're connected.
- 26:36Like that's my dad's chair that he gave me.
- 26:38I had to throw that away.
- 26:40Like there's no cleaning.
- 26:42It's toxic too.
- 26:42It's velour.
- 26:43It's probably like a bit.
- 26:45My grandfather was a furniture maker.
- 26:46Right.
- 26:47Oh, yeah.
- 26:48So just like these.
- 26:49Yeah.
- 26:50Yeah.
- 26:51So the company, the mold company actually used our house, they said, in their team meetings for one of the prettiest looking homes that had the worst scores they'd seen.
- 27:02Right.
- 27:02So that's why when he told me, I said, you know, I don't really know how to read an ERMI at this point.
- 27:06This was five years ago.
- 27:08And and so then he was explaining a few.
- 27:11But I got the report and I was like, this looks really bad.
- 27:13He was running ERMI.
- 27:14Yeah.
- 27:15Well, I mean, that was one thing.
- 27:17It was a home inspection.
- 27:18It was air samples inside, control samples outside.
- 27:23And that's one of the things like a home inspector to do that like is crazy.
- 27:28I know that Ryan, a mutual friend of ours,
- 27:31you're running air samples, you're running dust tests, you're running ERMI, you're running like all this stuff in multiple areas.
- 27:36So you can kind of track down the mold.
- 27:39Right.
- 27:39Right.
- 27:39Cause it's like, if your air sample is high here and the dust test is here, but it's low air test over here.
- 27:44So you know, it's coming from this area.
- 27:46So it kind of gives you an area to go look and see what's going on.
- 27:49It can be, you know, a thousand dollars worth of testing.
- 27:51Yeah.
- 27:52Depending on the size of the house.
- 27:54Yep.
- 27:54Well, that's what I mean.
- 27:55Or you can get a mold dog.
- 27:57Six rooms.
- 27:58You know, they work.
- 28:00I know I feel bad, though.
- 28:01They're sniffing.
- 28:02They need to be on binders.
- 28:03Yeah, they do need to be on binders.
- 28:05They do.
- 28:05Oh, I never thought about those poor puppies.
- 28:07Yeah, that's...
- 28:08I can't.
- 28:08I feel so bad.
- 28:09That's why you don't do it.
- 28:10Yeah, I haven't.
- 28:11Yeah.
- 28:11Our dog got very sick from the mold.
- 28:13So he was on binders and he...
- 28:16You know, he recovered.
- 28:17They do recover quick because of the cellular turnover on those, those, those little guys are fast.
- 28:23But yeah, so we, uh, yeah, it was just, it got in the HVAC.
- 28:27So once it's in the HVAC, it's in everywhere.
- 28:28Everywhere.
- 28:29Yeah.
- 28:30It's a horrible high level.
- 28:31Yeah.
- 28:32And let's, let me clarify that you can have mold in your home or you can have Dr. Ashley Mollett.
- 28:40level mold, which is called elevated mold, where the home inspector says, get out of your house as soon as possible.
- 28:47And the reason why is it can literally kill you, right?
- 28:52It can shut down your immune system, throw you into Hashimoto's, cause like all kinds of, and this is not even a doctor, but when you see those kinds of levels where you're in elevated mold, it's not slowly dimming down your lights.
- 29:07It's turning it off quick.
- 29:08I'd lived there only a year, right?
- 29:10So it had probably already had, when you did the inspection, there had been a lot of previous water damage, right?
- 29:17So it wasn't just the current leak that we'd had.
- 29:21And it was very interesting because I did see my antibodies for my thyroid were rising.
- 29:27And again, I just thought, oh, that's strange, right?
- 29:29But because I monitored things, I could see some shifts.
- 29:33But then I decided to run the,
- 29:35Lyme panel and there were about 21 strains of Lyme.
- 29:40So it wasn't just active.
- 29:42Yeah.
- 29:43So now after about took about two and a half years, I'm down to six, I think.
- 29:48So you went through the pain and the hurt on this?
- 29:51Yes.
- 29:51And so, again, that's what's very difficult, right?
- 29:54For me, it tends to be neurological, right?
- 29:56It's all joint pain and migraines and things like that and the brain fog.
- 30:01But, again, most people, they only think of mold as respiratory or skin, right, and things like that.
- 30:07And so...
- 30:09Unfortunately, it can impact any sort of system we have because it really can attack the liver, the kidneys, the brain.
- 30:16It really just can be systemic.
- 30:19And then again, you breathe it in.
- 30:21So it's unfortunately has a really lovely home, right?
- 30:25And the nasal passages and that's very close to the brain.
- 30:28So it's and then it can go straight down into the gut.
- 30:31Right.
- 30:32So it's very problematic.
- 30:34I mean, I asked the question, what is, you know, the...
- 30:38the number one toxin and, you know, in my, you know, I'm like fragrance is really nasty, but you know, mold might be that for me.
- 30:46Like I put fragrance up there.
- 30:48If you're talking about a non, you know, a chemical toxin, I would say fragrance because it's so pervasive.
- 30:53If you talk about a living bio toxin, a living toxin, a mold all day long.
- 30:58I mean, there's, there's nothing else plaguing at least the United States.
- 31:02it's not as bad in other countries because the building materials aren't as bad.
- 31:06Yeah.
- 31:06It doesn't grow as much mold.
- 31:08In all the energy-efficient homes like we do.
- 31:10It's a breathing whole environment.
- 31:13You're getting fresh air, so you're getting a dilution of mycotoxic exposure.
- 31:18Your immune system can keep up better.
- 31:21Yes.
- 31:22Right?
- 31:23All the things.
- 31:23And that's not even all of...
- 31:25Right.
- 31:25The things that you talk about all the time that's in our food, all of these things are slowly just really making our systems not very efficient because they're overburdened by a variety of toxins.
- 31:37If it's food additives, pesticides, fragrance, all kinds of things.
- 31:42Yeah.
- 31:42Or some care products.
- 31:44Talk about – this would be a great gift, right?
- 31:47And I know you really dialed this in.
- 31:49What are – if you live in a moldy home, what are three things you should do with your personal items?
- 31:55And I hope to learn something here.
- 31:58Like this is fun.
- 31:58So with the personal items?
- 32:00Yeah, so what do you keep?
- 32:01What do you throw away?
- 32:02What do you wash?
- 32:03What is salvageable?
- 32:04What is not?
- 32:05What do you wipe down your furniture with?
- 32:07Are you going to use –
- 32:10a toxic antimicrobial, are you going to use concrobrium from Home Depot?
- 32:14Are you going to use Benefact?
- 32:15Yeah, I use a Benefact.
- 32:17Yes, okay.
- 32:18Tell us.
- 32:19Yes.
- 32:20This is great.
- 32:21So again, I'm going to just put one caveat first is...
- 32:25This all depends on how sick the sickest person in your home is.
- 32:29And how sensitive you are.
- 32:30And how sensitive, right?
- 32:32So just for an example, I had the most side effects.
- 32:37I do not have the mold gene, right?
- 32:40But I do not detox toxins well at all genetically.
- 32:44So your methylation is probably weak, but you don't have the HLA-DR.
- 32:47I don't have HLA-DR.
- 32:48I do.
- 32:49Yeah.
- 32:49So, but my mom did in my house.
- 32:51So again, we treated the home as if, again, she's considered more susceptible to having SIRS.
- 33:00So that's why we had to get out also sooner in an urgency from a professional, right, that looks at all these homes, right?
- 33:08So, but basically when you're looking at your items, right?
- 33:11Yeah.
- 33:12I am also very practical, right?
- 33:15So if there's something you can clean, I think people ideally should clean it, right?
- 33:20So that is going to be, if you have clothing, ideally you should be able to clean it.
- 33:26If you're someone who still reacts,
- 33:29to clothing, right?
- 33:31Low level stuff.
- 33:32Yeah, then you just need to take this up a notch, right?
- 33:35And you just need to- Start over.
- 33:37Yeah, just be more- And get rid of all your polyester at the same time.
- 33:40Yes, yeah.
- 33:41And nylon.
- 33:41Yeah, get rid of all the toxic stuff, yes.
- 33:44Replace with all cotton.
- 33:45And your BPA, you know- Everything.
- 33:48Panties.
- 33:49Yes, and yoga pants.
- 33:50And yoga pants, yeah.
- 33:51The Forever Chemicals.
- 33:53I know it's just, I know it's overwhelming for people.
- 33:55So, especially mold-
- 33:58Well, just imagine that it's not overwhelming.
- 34:00Okay.
- 34:01And we'll just, you know.
- 34:03So anything non-forust, you would clean.
- 34:05Yeah.
- 34:05They have great wipes.
- 34:06There's micro-balanced products.
- 34:08There's the.
- 34:09Say that again.
- 34:10Micro-balanced products.
- 34:12They have the wipes.
- 34:13If you use microfiber cloth, it picks up about 70 times the amount of dust as a traditional towel would.
- 34:20So it's a time and a place to use plastic.
- 34:23I hate microfiber cloths.
- 34:24I can't even touch them.
- 34:26But.
- 34:27I also, yes.
- 34:29So people use a Swiffer cloth too, you know, again, or the Swiffer cloth.
- 34:35I canceled a Swiffer once.
- 34:37Well, no, so I don't buy these things, but when you're trying to, like I was cleaning up and then leaving, right?
- 34:43I would exchange a microplastic for a biotoxin, you know, all day long and it's not, and you're leaving anyway, right?
- 34:51Or, and then you can wipe it down with an organic cotton cloth later, but you know,
- 34:55But then again, you're throwing this stuff away.
- 34:58You're wiping and you're throwing away, right?
- 35:00So make that clear.
- 35:01If you're wiping down a non-porous surface, you don't keep that rag and wash it and reuse it.
- 35:06You wipe it, you put it in a garbage bag, you seal it, you duct tape it, and it gets thrown into an incinerator, but you throw it away.
- 35:13Yes.
- 35:14Yeah.
- 35:15And so again, when we were in this home, I basically I did so many loads of laundry and then we put them into we vacuum sealed the bags and then put them into kind of like a safe space until we were moving.
- 35:27Got it.
- 35:28Right.
- 35:28Beautiful.
- 35:29So in your washer, what did you use?
- 35:32So, okay, so I made a blend, and I don't remember all of them, but... Yeah, it's okay.
- 35:36Essential oil blend, right, that I added probably lemon, clove, cinnamon, oregano, thyme.
- 35:43Yeah.
- 35:44Maybe orange.
- 35:44Some anti-micropials.
- 35:45Yes.
- 35:45Yeah.
- 35:46And then I used borax and...
- 35:51Depending on the load, some of them I use the hydrogen peroxide if it was white.
- 35:55And then we're not using bleach in this, right?
- 35:58Bleach is what you do not use if you're trying to kill mold.
- 36:01And then, oh, and then I do use EC3 laundry additive, right?
- 36:06So some people also use ammonia.
- 36:11I did not, but that's another option.
- 36:13So there are a lot of different ways you can do it.
- 36:15And you can do multiple loads.
- 36:17What about baking soda?
- 36:19Yes.
- 36:19Yeah.
- 36:20Oh, sorry.
- 36:20I have the gallons of baking soda too.
- 36:23Yeah.
- 36:23Well, I think in the reason something baking soda would work, right, because it creates an alkaline environment where mold can't grow.
- 36:31Yes.
- 36:31And then if you rinse it enough.
- 36:33Yeah.
- 36:34I think there's a study.
- 36:35that somebody did i don't know if it's published but um might have been a mold expert and he showed that how much oh good um after two it takes two washes yeah so it was like i i mean we just i washed everything again had a daughter borax i used borax yeah because borax is i think even more alkaline than i'd have to look at the
- 36:58Yeah, that's the brand.
- 37:00I mean, I use Borax the most.
- 37:03But so again, yeah, so anything you can wash, clothing, even...
- 37:08Petty bears.
- 37:09Yes, we did all the stuffed animal loads.
- 37:11Again, everything fit in the washer.
- 37:13So basically also I was told if you can wash it and it fits in there, you can do it.
- 37:19And then I let everything dry also in the sun.
- 37:20So if you can wash it, you can keep it.
- 37:22Yes.
- 37:22And then dry in the sun.
- 37:23Yep.
- 37:24Does that destroy mycotoxins?
- 37:26It's supposed to help more.
- 37:27Yeah.
- 37:28A little bit.
- 37:28And I think sunshine fixes a lot of things.
- 37:30It does.
- 37:31It's a lot of energy.
- 37:32It's definitely going to, I mean, mold doesn't like it.
- 37:34No.
- 37:34Yes.
- 37:35So, and I'm in California, so we had a lot of sun, which is good.
- 37:39So, and then again, things unfortunately that are not good, we got rid of all the mattresses, right?
- 37:45Because there was mold in every room.
- 37:47So that is a mattress you cannot clean.
- 37:50And you can't fog it away either.
- 37:53You can't fog away anything.
- 37:56But that is what they will tell you.
- 37:59Right.
- 37:59And I mean, it's not like it was inexpensive.
- 38:02I think the landlord paid maybe twenty five hundred or something.
- 38:06What about it was going to be a solution and we could keep everything.
- 38:09What what were they fogging, though?
- 38:11They use some sort of, I don't know what's in their particular solution.
- 38:15There's some people that use essential oils or oregano-based, things like that.
- 38:19It's almost like, you know, if you have, this was supposed to be a natural option.
- 38:26But it doesn't, it did not work.
- 38:28There is a fog and it smells like it's acetic acid.
- 38:34And that seems to work.
- 38:37Yeah, so people can use fogging as part of keeping your home clean, right?
- 38:42But it is not, I wouldn't say it's a solution to be able to keep your items or to actually try to kill everything.
- 38:52It's more like it's a great option to have part of your, if it's yearly or every six months, a deeper clean.
- 39:00It'll knock down the mold.
- 39:01That's in the air.
- 39:02Yeah, it will.
- 39:03Yes.
- 39:03It'll knock it down.
- 39:04Yeah.
- 39:05It can, the microfogging, and there's people have patents on this stuff.
- 39:09Yeah.
- 39:09I've talked to all the experts.
- 39:10They can inject it.
- 39:12They can put a hole and stick it in the wall and knock it down.
- 39:15You know, it's not a water damage, but, you know, maybe there's a little condensation that builds up over from the sun.
- 39:21Oh, yeah.
- 39:22You know, whatever.
- 39:23So you can do it as it should be.
- 39:26maintenance yes i would say where or if you then if you have remediation yeah right you can fog and then even better do massive air exchange put in big air movers with hepa filters and clean everything out and then we we already talked about the wipe down which is really not part of the you know what you can keep and what you can't but yeah the small particle cleaning is a big piece
- 39:49huge piece because there's so many toxins that build up.
- 39:53So having a dust free home, not one with bleach or Clorox wipes, but ones that you wipe out, bring out the dust that are, and the dust carries a mycotoxin.
- 40:04So mycotoxins travel on dust particles.
- 40:07So that's really important.
- 40:08So here we go where anything we can put into your washer, if you're not super sensitive, wash it.
- 40:14Vacuum seal those bags.
- 40:16Put them away so they're safe.
- 40:17There's no mycotoxins aren't going to get through the plastic.
- 40:20Right.
- 40:20Time and a place, you know, for plastic.
- 40:22It was like heartbreaking for me to buy those things.
- 40:25But yeah.
- 40:26Yeah.
- 40:26Especially from California.
- 40:27You understand, you know, the environment and you're raised to respect that the oceans get trashed.
- 40:34And but a couch like this.
- 40:36Yeah, no.
- 40:37Gone.
- 40:38And again, sometimes if there's things that are removable, right, if you can remove the pillowcases, if you can remove certain things, then again, a lot of these big items, you sometimes, you know, a lot of things, they might have an option, right?
- 41:06And there was a more natural version.
- 41:08But for me, because I'm so sensitive to those smells and sealants, those I feel really bad from.
- 41:15So any of that kind of wood furniture, we opted not to keep.
- 41:19So wood, because it's porous, it'll bring the biotox.
- 41:23Because we happen to have all of this old...
- 41:29kind of these antique wood pieces.
- 41:31That aren't like lacquered.
- 41:32No, there's nothing.
- 41:33It's like, it's cool because the paint's crackling, right?
- 41:36And it's old.
- 41:37But the thing that's very interesting to me is we got those pieces from this outdoor store in Venice.
- 41:45So 100%, I bought them all moldy, right?
- 41:49I mean, those had so much mold when I bought them.
- 41:53They came moldy.
- 41:53They came moldy because they were a block from the beach in Venice.
- 41:56It's super damp.
- 41:58And I tested my headboard was this beautiful carved piece of wood.
- 42:03It was so full of mold.
- 42:06It was crazy.
- 42:07And I'd been sleeping on that for 20.
- 42:09I'd had it for 20 years.
- 42:10You bring it inside.
- 42:11Yeah.
- 42:12The mold doesn't die.
- 42:14No.
- 42:14And this is that thing, though, is, you know, when you're buying furniture, is it actually free from mold?
- 42:19Yeah.
- 42:20we go through this whole process and throw all these things away.
- 42:23Then you rebuy it.
- 42:24And then you rebuy it.
- 42:25So it's, you know, it's very important to at least do your best to figure out, you know, what's a great option.
- 42:31Yeah.
- 42:31When I was sick with mold, I just bought steel furniture.
- 42:37Yeah.
- 42:38You know, I mean, I bought- Things you could wipe down.
- 42:39Yeah.
- 42:39Everything I could wipe.
- 42:40Everything was steel.
- 42:41Like that's, you know, my chair is white becoming steel.
- 42:43My, or wood, you know, I mean, like-
- 42:48Yeah, polished, sealed wood, right?
- 42:51And there's non-toxic sealers out there.
- 42:53There are.
- 42:54Safecoat has some really good products for sealing.
- 42:58So yeah, I didn't think about like a non-sealed wood, but if it's like just a stained wood and it's not sealed, you can't wipe that down.
- 43:07Not really, but what you can do, again, this is, yeah, do the small particle cleaning, sand it, and then put the new sealant on.
- 43:15Yeah.
- 43:16So you can sell it, but that's so much work.
- 43:19Right.
- 43:20Yeah.
- 43:20So then what I did is I was looking around and how much meaning does this piece have to me?
- 43:25And then what's the value to replace it?
- 43:27And do I actually need to replace it?
- 43:29Right.
- 43:29You know, we, everyone accumulates a lot of things.
- 43:31So I would say going through mold is this massive purging process.
- 43:36Mm-hmm.
- 43:37And I know people don't like to look at this part, but, you know, I do think everything that happens in our life is for us, not to us.
- 43:44And so trying to see what could this experience, you know, be teaching or is it changing my path?
- 43:51Is this now my direction of what I focus on with health?
- 43:54Right.
- 43:54That's what happened to me.
- 43:55But again, it's it's a huge purging process and letting go and starting fresh.
- 44:01That you have to let go.
- 44:01You have to trust.
- 44:02There's no choice.
- 44:03It's like you're starting over.
- 44:04Yes.
- 44:04And you do the best you can.
- 44:05I mean, if you bring an actress who had massive water damage and I interviewed her and she wasn't even staying in the place, that didn't make her sick, right?
- 44:16Mm-hmm.
- 44:17She brought all of her clothes back without... She didn't know.
- 44:20Yeah.
- 44:20Right?
- 44:21Brought all of her clothes back.
- 44:22And then she got hypothyroid, got really sick.
- 44:26And eventually, and I think she was in LA, she moved back.
- 44:30Yeah.
- 44:31Someone, because LA is a little more progressive.
- 44:33Hey, were you in water damage?
- 44:34Like, no, I wasn't in water damage.
- 44:36And then she...
- 44:37What, you know, put two and two together.
- 44:39But she's like, well, water damage, my old place has water damage.
- 44:42And the person was smart and said, well, did you bring the clothes?
- 44:45Did you even wash them?
- 44:46Yeah.
- 44:46Yeah.
- 44:47And she's like, no, like I just, I had to save my clothes.
- 44:50You know, everything else was trash.
- 44:51I mean, it was a big water leak, like crashed.
- 44:53Yeah.
- 44:54just flooded, big water main break, you know, just really nasty.
- 44:58And that was the source of her changed her life.
- 45:02Yeah, exactly.
- 45:03You know what I mean?
- 45:04You just don't know.
- 45:05And again, a lot of people, when you bring that up, they're maybe not too,
- 45:11excited about trying to think of what benefits something so catastrophic to them could have?
- 45:16I have the docuseries, Homesick Home, and I'm getting feedback, right?
- 45:20And I mean, there's other stuff in there.
- 45:22We're talking about the easy stuff too.
- 45:23We're talking about air quality.
- 45:25We're talking about water, furniture choices, cleaners.
- 45:29We have two episodes on that, but when it comes up with this mold, but when you look at those stories and how it's destroying
- 45:40Thank you.
- 45:42you may need to start over.
- 45:43Right.
- 45:44You know, and that's okay.
- 45:45Yeah.
- 45:46You know, I did it twice.
- 45:47Yeah.
- 45:48You know, and you're always going to be battling mold.
- 45:51I'm always like, I'm worried right now that it's in my daughter's room for some reason, right?
- 45:55Because I'm looking at her symptoms and maybe and doing these podcasts, you know, it's like more knowledge, more responsibility because you guys teach me so much.
- 46:05My, you know, social media following teaches me so much.
- 46:09And I'm like, oh, I didn't know, but I'm going to have to research that.
- 46:12You know, and you think you guys have it bad, right?
- 46:16Imagine me.
- 46:18I don't have a choice.
- 46:18Like this is my mission.
- 46:22So I have to look into these things.
- 46:23I have to be congruent.
- 46:25I get to be incongruent with them.
- 46:27I enjoy this, right?
- 46:30But sometimes when I'm getting sick or I move into a moldy hotel room, like, yeah.
- 46:37did it really have to be me?
- 46:38Like, do I have to be the sensitive guy?
- 46:43Can I just not take this pill?
- 46:45Do I have to live in... Is it bliss to be not know?
- 46:51It's interesting, right?
- 46:52But I think it's about learning about your system and a lot of people don't feel well every day.
- 46:59And so once you...
- 47:01Once you feel sick and you're aware of it, right, because your symptoms talk to you very loudly, right, a lot of the things I think probably similar, it's like if you get a neurological response, like a headache or something instant from a chemical or something that you're exposed to.
- 47:17you know, it's very motivating where when people just have bloating and stomach issues or digestive issues, they're not always going to dive in and see maybe what's causing it, right?
- 47:28Because they maybe aren't always as in tune.
- 47:32And I think pain is a huge motivator, right?
- 47:35It definitely is.
- 47:36And I think the good news is, right, is...
- 47:41If you're sick and you're not getting well, right.
- 47:44You can get a mycotoxin test.
- 47:46You can test your home with multiple, you know, finding someone that's really good.
- 47:52Um, and it's your best investment, right?
- 47:54You can, you can find a cast of vision.
- 47:56Your house is going to be worth more, right?
- 47:58Yeah.
- 47:59Because you're cleaning it up.
- 48:00And, uh, I think non-toxic homes are becoming a thing.
- 48:04Yes.
- 48:05Right.
- 48:05Um, yeah.
- 48:06Because people are more and more sick from their home, right?
- 48:08And just sick in general.
- 48:10Very complex cases we have.
- 48:11Ignoring, you know, the source of your problems is like staying in a marriage where you're getting abused, right?
- 48:16You're getting abused by your home.
- 48:18Yeah.
- 48:18And you're going to stay in that, right?
- 48:20There's only so much your body can take before it breaks down and you don't have a life anymore.
- 48:26So you do have a choice.
- 48:28Yeah.
- 48:28And it's a hard choice.
- 48:29It might be downsizing.
- 48:31Yes.
- 48:31Like I moved into a 600 square foot house.
- 48:34And I was embarrassed.
- 48:35Like, this is where my new wife is going to move into.
- 48:38I don't have carpet, right?
- 48:40You know, because you can't...
- 48:42It's...
- 48:42The smaller, the easier it is to fix.
- 48:44Yeah.
- 48:44A lot of the times, right?
- 48:46To seal off your HVAC, do all the things that, you know, you have to do to get well.
- 48:50Because I didn't have the means then when I started out.
- 48:53You know, I was making...
- 48:55You know, I left my career.
- 48:56I lost all my money, right?
- 48:57Yeah.
- 48:58I was making $30,000 a year, you know, helping people.
- 49:02Like I wasn't doing it, you know, for money, right?
- 49:06And had my master's degree and I was making $14 an hour, right?
- 49:11Yeah.
- 49:11So I'm just like, it's...
- 49:15But I had a choice, right?
- 49:16I knew it was going to lead somewhere good.
- 49:17I visualized my life, you know, getting married.
- 49:20I visualized what it was going to feel like to be healthy again and how much value that was going to bring my life and casting that vision.
- 49:28And it worked.
- 49:29And that's critical for someone to get better, right?
- 49:32So when people are stuck in this loop—
- 49:36of, you know, my home is making me sick or my home is trying to kill me or all of these things that clients say to me all the time.
- 49:43You know, it's so important to tap into...
- 49:47how you see yourself better and well, you know, and the life either that you used to have or basically the new one that you want to create.
- 49:55Because otherwise people are just, they're stuck in this loop.
- 49:57And that's where this mindset piece comes in or brain retraining, you know, things like that, because people just, they get into this diagnosis, right?
- 50:08Of whatever they have or have been told by the labs that,
- 50:11So it's this very delicate balance, I find, because I don't want them identifying with this and talking about it to everybody, which is what happens.
- 50:19You'll lose all your friends, by the way.
- 50:21Yeah, I know.
- 50:21It never happened to me.
- 50:22I know.
- 50:23No one got sick of me.
- 50:24They always say, oh, what's wrong with that now?
- 50:27Yeah.
- 50:27You know, when I say something about whatever it might be.
- 50:31My wife tells me that early on, she's just like, stop talking about your symptoms.
- 50:36And I'm like, you're right.
- 50:37For sure.
- 50:38You're right.
- 50:38It does.
- 50:38It just ingrains it further.
- 50:41I'm verbal.
- 50:41Yeah.
- 50:42Right.
- 50:42So that's how I get it out.
- 50:46But if you're an empath, like my wife, I mean, I guess I'm empathic too, but I'm verbal as well.
- 50:52And then if it's just ruining the energy in the room, it's creating depression.
- 50:56It's creating.
- 50:58Well, and it's keeping you sick.
- 50:59And it's keeping the client sick.
- 51:01You're telling your body that you're sick.
- 51:02You're telling your body over and over and you're reprogramming your cells to stay where they are not in that next state of health that you're wanting to achieve.
- 51:11And that the science has now finally caught up with that one.
- 51:13Yes.
- 51:14You know, the limbic training and all the things, right?
- 51:16Yeah.
- 51:16It's beautiful.
- 51:16Yeah.
- 51:17To wrap this up into a bow, my final question for you, and thank you so much for sharing your wisdom, some of these hacks for your home, your story, your journey, specifically your heart.
- 51:29You can tell you're out to help people.
- 51:31You're creating programs for doctors and the public.
- 51:33You're doing a lot of great work.
- 51:35If there's your greatest concern with the world today, like kind of the thing that's keeping you up at night, but hopefully it's not.
- 51:43for this planet, for humanity?
- 51:44What is that?
- 51:45And what would you do to help correct it if you could?
- 51:49Sure.
- 51:49So I know there are a lot of things, right?
- 51:52Yeah, there's so many.
- 51:53And I would say because I want to empower people like you do with choices, I think it's—
- 52:03unfortunate, right?
- 52:04How many things are hidden and people aren't even aware of what the things are that they're doing that are impacting their health so greatly.
- 52:13Right.
- 52:13And we see this because we have a lot of power and choice, right?
- 52:17It does make a difference what we choose to buy or what we choose not to.
- 52:21And so...
- 52:23when we can share information in an easy, digestible way, that's not overwhelming, right?
- 52:30If we can make those changes, especially with the kids, then we've changed the whole health trajectory for their life, right?
- 52:38So for me, that's why I love working with little kids,
- 52:41If they have symptoms, people downplay symptoms all the time.
- 52:44I understand that.
- 52:45I get it.
- 52:46I do it myself.
- 52:47Yeah, we all do because we don't want to deal with the problem.
- 52:49Oh, the mom had eczema.
- 52:50So no wonder this baby has eczema, right?
- 52:53My whole thing is, you know, again, root cause medicine is finding the root cause and its root cause is really there's never just one thing.
- 53:02But if you can identify those and rectify those, those are your upstream issues.
- 53:08Most people are focusing on downstream things with Band-Aids, right?
- 53:12Yeah.
- 53:13So cleaning up the food, making good choices, getting out biotoxins and exposures, all really critical.
- 53:21But yeah, if we can clean up families' homes and clean up the diet and things like that, you really do mitigate a lot of problems in someone's whole future.
- 53:32And that's very important to me as a mom and as a practitioner.
- 53:36Yeah.
- 53:37If you can educate children, set them up for success.
- 53:39Yeah.
- 53:40Let them know that they have a choice.
- 53:42They don't have to wear polyester underwear and, you know, spandex and, you know, well, spandex, I'm identifying myself again.
- 53:50Yeah.
- 53:50You know.
- 53:51I mean, I do kind of talk about a lot of sugar, right?
- 53:55Yeah.
- 53:56It's something that.
- 53:58It really has an impact on a lot of systems and even that just suppresses the immune system.
- 54:04It does.
- 54:05And, you know, the science doesn't say that it causes this and doesn't cause that.
- 54:10And they try to, you know, it's just a calorie.
- 54:13And, you know, so I think what you're saying is if we could educate people.
- 54:23families, moms, kids.
- 54:25One of my greatest compliments is when, uh, someone nine, 10 to 13 years old and younger says, I watch all your videos and I, and I, and, or a mom comes to me and says, my kid shows me your videos.
- 54:41That's how I found out about you when you're able to reach.
- 54:44So they shouldn't be on their stinky phones anyway, but I'm glad that I was able to reach you.
- 54:48And what are they doing on Instagram and mine?
- 54:50Yeah.
- 54:50Yeah.
- 54:51Or, you know, 13, I think this one was.
- 54:54But even, you know, my kids watch all my videos.
- 54:56Like they love them.
- 54:58So we sit down and we watch them.
- 54:59And if I tell them,
- 55:02It's not as powerful, right?
- 55:04But when I watched a video, it's crazy to me.
- 55:07Like that's such a good video, dad.
- 55:09And then it educates them.
- 55:10So I'm educating my kids through my phone because they don't have phones.
- 55:14They have school computers.
- 55:16They can talk to their cousins a little bit, you know, every once in a while, FaceTime their aunts.
- 55:21But we really limit because we know what the science shows there.
- 55:24And we want that creative voice.
- 55:27brilliance to come out of them.
- 55:29We don't want them addicted to in a device, right?
- 55:32We don't want to stunt their creativity, you know, and if they choose to get into social media later, you know, when they're older, go for it, you know?
- 55:39I mean, it can be a great tool.
- 55:41It's a necessary evil in my life, apparently.
- 55:45So I love that, you know, educating families and children about these toxins that – whether it's sugar, mold, so that they can empower that choice, which can – that does drive economies.
- 55:59It does.
- 56:00And so we get that all the time that, oh, it doesn't matter.
- 56:02Yes, it does.
- 56:04Right.
- 56:04Why do you think all these companies are showing up?
- 56:06Right.
- 56:07You know, it's massive.
- 56:09There's a movement happening.
- 56:10And it's a non-toxic lifestyle movement right now.
- 56:16Right.
- 56:16And we get to be part of it.
- 56:17You get to help people.
- 56:19And you do.
- 56:20Speaking of which, if someone wants to find you, learn more.
- 56:23Sure.
- 56:24How do they find you on Instagram, website?
- 56:27Instagram is drashleybeckman.
- 56:30And my website is drashley.com.
- 56:34So drashley.com.
- 56:35Yeah.
