- 0:00Speaker 1: 6.07 on a Tuesday, September 1st. Light FM is on.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Thank you for having us on. Cubby, Christine, producer Kristen,
- 0:06Speaker 1: producing from home. And it was a great day yesterday. Christine, Naomi,
- 0:11Speaker 1: I picked her up from first grade and I was nervous.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Is she going to come out of school happy? Is
- 0:17Speaker 1: she going to come out kind of just slowly walking
- 0:20Speaker 1: and kicking a rock? But the doors opened. I showed
- 0:24Speaker 1: my ID because, you know, I have to get to
- 0:26Speaker 1: know the new teachers.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I said, I'm, you know, Cubby Bryant.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Naomi's dad.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Naomi.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Yes.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And then she heard her name and she ran out
- 0:34Speaker 1: and hugged me. And I picked her up and I said,
- 0:37Speaker 1: how was your first day of first grade? She said,
- 0:39Speaker 1: it was awesome.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Oh, that's great.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And that is what I wanted to hear. So we
- 0:45Speaker 1: were very happy yesterday.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Oh, my goodness.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I was nervous because she was nervous. Didn't know, you know,
- 0:51Speaker 1: what friends were going to be from kindergarten with her. So,
- 0:54Speaker 1: you know, there was like five or six that came
- 0:56Speaker 1: from kindergarten class the year before. She knew them. And
- 0:59Speaker 1: then she's like, yeah, I met some new friends. And
- 1:01Speaker 1: the art teacher is the same. And the music teacher
- 1:04Speaker 1: is the same.
- 1:05Speaker 4: So.
- 1:06Speaker 1: It's like a combination of new, but she also is
- 1:09Speaker 1: getting to know the school because she's been there before.
- 1:11Speaker 3: That's great.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So you know how it was.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I still remember. Yes.
- 1:14Speaker 1: You get to know the rhythm of a particular school.
- 1:19Speaker 3: I remember how scary the first day always felt. But yes,
- 1:21Speaker 3: I'm so glad she got through it and she's happy.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Thank you. And I know a lot of schools are
- 1:25Speaker 1: starting today and then tomorrow. And then I think New
- 1:29Speaker 1: York City public schools are a week. Next Thursday.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Labor Day is weird this year, isn't it?
- 1:34Speaker 4: I know.
- 1:34Speaker 1: It's very late. It's very late. Yeah. But I don't know.
- 1:37Speaker 1: It just feels like school time, especially with the calendar
- 1:39Speaker 1: saying September.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I know. Now that it's September. Exactly. So can we
- 1:43Speaker 3: still wear white or do I have to after Labor Day?
- 1:46Speaker 1: Here we go with that conversation. Do you ever take
- 1:48Speaker 1: that rule seriously?
- 1:49Speaker 3: We have until after Labor Day. I don't take it seriously,
- 1:52Speaker 3: but it's always in my head. It's funny.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Like, you know, it kind of I guess because we
- 1:56Speaker 3: grew up with it. It's kind of there.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Yeah. Right.
- 1:59Speaker 3: You know, like after Labor Day, it's like I was
- 2:02Speaker 3: thinking this morning, like it's time to start putting some
- 2:04Speaker 3: of the real summery stuff away, even though it can
- 2:08Speaker 3: still get hot.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Do you still do your big transition where you have
- 2:11Speaker 1: to go to a storage unit and all that?
- 2:12Speaker 3: No, thankfully.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You have now a bigger home, so you can do
- 2:16Speaker 1: it all under one roof.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I can do it all under one roof. It is
- 2:19Speaker 3: still a chore. because I don't have everything. I don't
- 2:23Speaker 3: have that. You know, I don't have like Kim Kardashian's closet.
- 2:26Speaker 1: To walk into.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Do you know what I mean?
- 2:27Speaker 1: What's your ultimate goal?
- 2:28Speaker 3: So I have to like swap things out and put
- 2:31Speaker 3: other things away.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You want to be able to open a drawer and
- 2:33Speaker 1: see fall clothes and not, you like to do a
- 2:35Speaker 1: whole transfer, right? A whole switch.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I still have to do a switch over.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 3: But it's all within the same house. I used to
- 2:43Speaker 3: have to go to a storage unit.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Nothing's worse than when it's like late September and it's
- 2:47Speaker 1: kind of cold and you don't need summer clothes anymore.
- 2:49Speaker 1: You open the drawer and you still see summer clothes.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, I know.
- 2:52Speaker 1: So you're trying to avoid that.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Exactly. Well, in honor of Back to School, which is
- 2:56Speaker 1: happening now, producer Kristen has come up with a Back
- 2:58Speaker 1: to School edition.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Oh.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Of Trivia Battle.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Oh, that's coming.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So we'll be doing that at 725 for Sara Bareilles tickets.
- 3:05Speaker 1: What are you up? What are you doing? Hit us up.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I want to know what you're up to at this
- 3:09Speaker 1: current moment. You can text us at 44363. More Covey
- 3:13Speaker 1: and Christine.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And the great music variety you expect. Next on Light FM.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I need to tell you two things.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Covey and Christine's.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Two pretty cool things. Did you know that if you're
- 3:26Speaker 1: shopping in Walmart and you can't find something, you can
- 3:29Speaker 1: make the price blink and it'll help you find it? What? Yeah,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I just saw some girl on TikTok. She did a
- 3:35Speaker 1: life hack thing. And what you do is, if you're
- 3:39Speaker 1: in Walmart, and the example she did was she was
- 3:42Speaker 1: in the olive oil aisle. And there was a ton
- 3:44Speaker 1: of olive oil. She knew what she wanted, but she
- 3:47Speaker 1: couldn't spot it. So she opened up the Walmart app
- 3:50Speaker 1: on her phone, set the app to her local store,
- 3:53Speaker 1: searched for the item in the app, And then found it.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And then in the app it says flash price tag.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And then she hit it on her phone. And then
- 4:01Speaker 1: this little like LED. Wow. Like little strobe light starts
- 4:05Speaker 1: going off. And you spot it. And there you go.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Oh my goodness. It's like being lost in a parking
- 4:11Speaker 3: lot and you go boop boop to your car.
- 4:12Speaker 1: That's exactly what it is.
- 4:14Speaker 3: You boop boop your olive oil.
- 4:15Speaker 1: You can flash the price tag. So next time you're
- 4:18Speaker 1: in a Walmart and it's a really big aisle with
- 4:20Speaker 1: a lot of choices. Find what you need in the
- 4:22Speaker 1: app and then hit the button. All right. What's your
- 4:24Speaker 1: cool thing?
- 4:25Speaker 3: That's pretty amazing, Cubby. Well, I have Snoop Dogg looking
- 4:30Speaker 3: for one lucky person to taste test his ice cream
- 4:36Speaker 3: for a living.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Well, first of all, I'll eat ice cream anytime. But
- 4:39Speaker 1: how much are we talking here?
- 4:40Speaker 3: Ten thousand dollars a month.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I'm in.
- 4:42Speaker 4: All right.
- 4:42Speaker 3: The role is with Dr. Bombay, his family owned ice
- 4:45Speaker 3: cream brand. It launched in 2023. And yes, It's in Walmart.
- 4:49Speaker 3: It's in 7-Eleven as well. So this is a full-time
- 4:54Speaker 3: international taste tester position. It's being handled through the hiring
- 4:58Speaker 3: platform Deal, D-E-E-L. Applications are open to people anywhere in
- 5:03Speaker 3: the world. Get in there. $ 10, 000 a month to taste
- 5:05Speaker 3: ice cream.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I love it. That is a cool thing. And we're
- 5:10Speaker 1: coming right back with more variety from the 80s through today.
- 5:13Speaker 2: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Next on Light FM.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They have lost their minds at Walmart and.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I love it.
- 5:22Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM. Cubby and Christine in the morning. Producer
- 5:25Speaker 1: Kristen producing from home. And no, this hour is not
- 5:28Speaker 1: brought to you by Walmart, although I did talk about
- 5:30Speaker 1: Walmart about 10 minutes ago.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Yeah, we are talking about Walmart quite a bit.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And they're getting a lot of love here. Yes. But
- 5:35Speaker 1: can you explain this headline to me, producer? Not producer Kristen.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Yeah, well, Kristen's into it, too.
- 5:40Speaker 1: She's into it, too. But, Christine, the headline says, Walmart
- 5:44Speaker 1: just unveiled a $ 5. 97 chicken purse inspired by its rotisserie chicken.
- 5:49Speaker 3: You said it, Cubby.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I've just Googled it, and this is like a real thing,
- 5:56Speaker 1: like a real bag.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Yeah, like if you're trying to picture it, it's not
- 6:00Speaker 3: shaped like a chicken. It's shaped like the bag that
- 6:03Speaker 3: you buy the rotisserie chicken in.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And then it's got like the image of the chicken
- 6:09Speaker 3: that would be in the bag on the bag itself.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Is that making sense? So you can use it as
- 6:14Speaker 3: a purse.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You could actually get this confused with a real bag
- 6:18Speaker 1: of rotisserie chicken. Like you could put this in the
- 6:20Speaker 1: fridge by accident.
- 6:22Speaker 3: You could, but you know.
- 6:23Speaker 1: If you're sorting through all your groceries?
- 6:25Speaker 3: It's not edible. It's incredible.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:30Speaker 3: You can get tiny little bag charms, like tiny little
- 6:33Speaker 3: chickens and hot sauce and seasoning, also available as your
- 6:38Speaker 3: bag charms.
- 6:40Speaker 1: It's not a bad price, by the way.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Again, $ 5. 97.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yep.
- 6:43Speaker 1: It's the same price as an actual bag of rotisserie chicken.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 6:49Speaker 4: All right.
- 6:49Speaker 3: And, you know, it's reusable.
- 6:51Speaker 1: It's reusable.
- 6:51Speaker 3: And it's a fashion statement.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 6:53Speaker 3: You know, who needs the Met Gala, which has been
- 6:55Speaker 3: in the news, by the way, when you've got your
- 6:57Speaker 3: Walmart rotisserie chicken back?
- 6:59Speaker 1: And your birthday's coming up.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yes.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It was Producer Kristen in December, so you know what
- 7:03Speaker 1: you're getting. So hold off on buying it.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I don't know if she and I can wait until December, but, oh, okay.
- 7:09Speaker 1: There you go, folks.
- 7:10Speaker 2: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Next on Light FM.
- 7:15Speaker 1: We have a question, and it's going out to all
- 7:17Speaker 1: the couples here at Light FM. You can call us.
- 7:20Speaker 1: The phones are open. 1-800-222-1067. And what is that simple question?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Do you leave the bathroom door open when your partner's
- 7:28Speaker 3: in there? This comes up from time to time in
- 7:30Speaker 3: their surveys done, and they find that more and more
- 7:34Speaker 3: couples are doing this. They're not bothering to close the
- 7:37Speaker 3: bathroom door. They're just... Leaving it open. Let it rip.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Having a conversation. They say, like, this is actually very healthy,
- 7:45Speaker 3: according to psychologists. It means I accept you bodily functions
- 7:50Speaker 3: at all. It's not about lacking boundaries. It's about having
- 7:54Speaker 3: enough trust to eliminate unnecessary ones.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you, in that case, there's a lot
- 8:00Speaker 1: of trust in our family.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Oh, you.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Well... We try to close the door, but... Because of
- 8:05Speaker 1: the kids. The kids have changed all the dynamics. Right.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You don't get any alone time anymore, and nine times
- 8:13Speaker 1: out of ten, the door is open, and things are
- 8:16Speaker 1: just flying. Oh, boy. And, yeah, we're kind of cool
- 8:22Speaker 1: with it. We're kind of desensitized to it now.
- 8:24Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 8:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Even Coco?
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yep. She's... Again, look, I don't hang and linger if
- 8:32Speaker 1: she's doing her business. But if the door is open,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I may grab what I need and leave.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Never mind me.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Or you know what I do sometimes? I'll just shut
- 8:40Speaker 1: the door for her. And lo and behold, Naomi or
- 8:43Speaker 1: Miles will open it again. If we're all together, that
- 8:46Speaker 1: happens a lot.
- 8:47Speaker 3: So all four of you are in there and Coco's
- 8:50Speaker 3: doing her thing.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Now, you've been with Eric now for how many years?
- 8:54Speaker 3: You know what? It's going to be nine years.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Coming up on nine years. Yes. And to this day...
- 8:58Speaker 1: The door's shut. You know, there's no barging in. Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Door's always shut. Never open. Yeah.
- 9:03Speaker 3: I still am like, no, no, no, no, no. You know, like,
- 9:06Speaker 3: like there's been a couple of times where he's like,
- 9:08Speaker 3: like you, you know, can I just run in and
- 9:09Speaker 3: grab somebody? Cause you just know, wait, just, you know,
- 9:13Speaker 3: or even like talking to each other through the door.
- 9:15Speaker 3: We used to not do that. Maybe we're a little
- 9:18Speaker 3: bit better with that, but.
- 9:19Speaker 1: What about the shower? Like if you're showering.
- 9:21Speaker 3: If somebody's in the shower and you need to step
- 9:26Speaker 3: in and grab something. Yes, but I would prefer not
- 9:30Speaker 3: to have that. I don't know. I just still want
- 9:32Speaker 3: the privacy. We have that ability. Like you said, it's different.
- 9:38Speaker 3: You're in a different situation.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I prefer the privacy too, but sometimes, especially when you're
- 9:45Speaker 1: just sitting there.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Doing your business. I would want to still be alone.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Let's take our little poll here.
- 9:52Speaker 1: You can text us at 44363 or call 1-800-222-1067. In
- 9:58Speaker 1: a relationship, are you cool with the door open? Are
- 10:01Speaker 1: you free like that?
- 10:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 3: I mean, more power to you if you're free like that.
- 10:06Speaker 4: I know.
- 10:07Speaker 1: If you had to guess, what do you think? It's 70%
- 10:11Speaker 1: shut the door, 30% are like.
- 10:13Speaker 3: No, I think it's going to be more people just
- 10:15Speaker 3: leave the door open at this point.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Really?
- 10:17Speaker 3: Yeah, not even on purpose, but you know, Like, just
- 10:20Speaker 3: don't worry about it.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Okay.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Light FM, you're live on the air. What's your name?
- 10:26Speaker 4: Jose.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Jose.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Hi, Jose.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Are you chiming in about our topic here?
- 10:32Speaker 4: Yes. I like to think that I let my door close.
- 10:39Speaker 4: A little privacy goes a long way.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Yes. I'm with you.
- 10:42Speaker 1: But if the door opens and you're sitting there doing
- 10:44Speaker 1: your business, do you freak out or is it just
- 10:47Speaker 1: kind of like open and shut in your house?
- 10:52Speaker 4: Uh, sometimes I freak out a little.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yeah. You want your privacy.
- 10:57Speaker 4: While I'm doing my, you know.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Especially when I'm trying to do a number two and.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Well, yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 1: You know.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:03Speaker 3: That's definitely.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 3: We could use some private time right there.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And that's what we don't get really with the kids.
- 11:09Speaker 1: It's kind of always open.
- 11:11Speaker 4: So.
- 11:11Speaker 3: And you can text us too. 44363.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Is anybody chiming in this on text?
- 11:15Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:17Speaker 4: All right.
- 11:17Speaker 1: We're getting more calls than we are on text. People
- 11:19Speaker 1: want to talk about it. Yeah. It's therapy for him.
- 11:21Speaker 1: You know what? Let's do one more. I know we
- 11:24Speaker 1: should go to break, but, you know, what the heck.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Living on the edge.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yeah, living on the edge. Highlight FM, who is this?
- 11:30Speaker 4: This is Dory.
- 11:31Speaker 3: How are you?
- 11:32Speaker 1: How are you? Hi, Dory. Are you chiming in about
- 11:35Speaker 1: our topic?
- 11:37Speaker 4: I sure am.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 11:38Speaker 4: We are doors open. We actually, in one of our bathrooms,
- 11:41Speaker 4: took the door off.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Just took it off? Wow.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Because it was even worth going, like, shutting and closing
- 11:48Speaker 1: all the time. That opened into the bathroom and just
- 11:53Speaker 1: the space was, it just was, just take it off.
- 11:56Speaker 4: We don't need it.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Wow. Okay.
- 11:58Speaker 1: So if you're doing your business and you're sitting there,
- 12:00Speaker 1: it's very just normal for someone to come in and
- 12:04Speaker 1: walk out.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Very normal. Very normal for the two of us.
- 12:08Speaker 3: You know, we don't have children, but we have a
- 12:10Speaker 3: million great nieces and nephews. But when they're over.
- 12:13Speaker 4: They call me Gigi.
- 12:14Speaker 1: They're like, Gigi, why is the door open?
- 12:16Speaker 4: Close the door, Gigi.
- 12:17Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, you're right, you're right.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I forgot.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Well, thank you for calling.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Thank you so much. We are starting to get some
- 12:25Speaker 3: text messages, Cubby. 44363. Door closed. Married 43 years. Door closed.
- 12:32Speaker 3: 52 years married. Doors closed. Doors have to be closed.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Prefer closed. There's some things I can't say.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Stay shut. We have one, three, four, seven door open
- 12:43Speaker 3: 30 plus years. We are getting more closed rather than
- 12:46Speaker 3: open at the moment.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Well, we know where you stand. You're closed. And the
- 12:51Speaker 1: Bryant family, wide open. What do you have coming up
- 12:54Speaker 1: in the news, Christine?
- 12:55Speaker 3: Let's check out the headlines, and I think this is
- 12:57Speaker 3: kind of cute. Pet owners ask AI questions about their pets.
- 13:01Speaker 3: What's the most frequently asked questions?
- 13:03Speaker 2: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Next on Light FM.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Christine has everything you need to know. Good morning, Christine.
- 13:10Speaker 3: And good morning, Cubby. Well, here yesterday, quite a disturbing scene.
- 13:14Speaker 3: A woman shot and killed in Times Square by police
- 13:17Speaker 3: after she had stabbed two people. She had two knives.
- 13:21Speaker 3: One person died. The other was very seriously injured. Police
- 13:25Speaker 3: did tase the woman. She was running at them with
- 13:28Speaker 3: two knives and she was shot. And as I said,
- 13:31Speaker 3: she died later at the hospital. This happened right at
- 13:35Speaker 3: 41st Street and 7th Avenue in the middle of the afternoon.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Outdoor dining is going to be allowed in New York
- 13:41Speaker 3: City all year long. Mayor Mondani has signed the bill
- 13:44Speaker 3: into law. Path train riders, if you're still using MetroCards
- 13:48Speaker 3: or SmartLink cards, they're not going to work as of today,
- 13:51Speaker 3: September 1st. That's for PATH trains. You can still use
- 13:54Speaker 3: the MetroCard for Transit Authority, but right now for PATH,
- 14:00Speaker 3: you have to use the new TAP card, T-A-P-P, or
- 14:02Speaker 3: use your phone.
- 14:03Speaker 1: What about tokens? I got a few tokens left.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Good luck finding a slot. President Trump will be meeting
- 14:09Speaker 3: with U.S. oil refineries and fuel distributors today, looking for
- 14:13Speaker 3: ways to lower gas prices. Trump is looking to push
- 14:16Speaker 3: down gas prices ahead of the midterm elections as polls
- 14:19Speaker 3: show growing voter concern about the cost of living. In sports, baseball,
- 14:23Speaker 3: Mets beat the Rays 3-2. Yankees lost to the Angels 10-1.
- 14:28Speaker 3: And pet owners must really enjoy this feature, AI, where
- 14:33Speaker 3: they can ask questions about their pets. And the most
- 14:35Speaker 3: popular pet questions have been, can pets see ghosts? Do
- 14:40Speaker 3: dogs know that they're dogs? I always think that's interesting. Like,
- 14:43Speaker 3: what do they? And is my pet jealous?
- 14:46Speaker 1: This is what we're hitting up ChatGPT about?
- 14:49Speaker 3: Making good use of ChatGPT, yes.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I don't know the answer to any of those questions.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I do think they see ghosts, though, if I had
- 14:55Speaker 1: to guess. Don't you think?
- 14:57Speaker 3: I mean, they are always looking at stuff that we
- 14:59Speaker 3: don't see.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:00Speaker 3: They hear things in the walls. They hear, you know,
- 15:02Speaker 3: that we can't hear.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 15:04Speaker 3: You know, it reminds me of like when we get
- 15:06Speaker 3: the pet psychics. And they say these are the questions
- 15:09Speaker 3: they're asked, too. Like, does my pet like his or
- 15:11Speaker 3: her name?
- 15:12Speaker 1: Or their food.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Do they like their food? But I love that. Does
- 15:15Speaker 3: my dog know that they're a dog? Because I always wondered, does, like,
- 15:18Speaker 3: Archie know that he's a cat and he's different? And
- 15:20Speaker 3: if he encountered a dog, what would he make of it?
- 15:22Speaker 1: That's a great question. Like, are they walking around going,
- 15:25Speaker 1: I'm a cat, I'm a cat, I'm a cat, I'm
- 15:26Speaker 1: a cat? Or do they think they're us?
- 15:28Speaker 3: I don't know. Or they think we're cats.
- 15:30Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 15:30Speaker 3: I have no idea.
- 15:31Speaker 1: We love our animals around here, that's for sure.
- 15:33Speaker 2: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 15:37Speaker 3: Next on Light FM.
- 15:38Speaker 1: It's Cubby and Christine, and there's a poll on Reddit.
- 15:42Speaker 1: And it's asking people what sounds have you not heard
- 15:45Speaker 1: in a while, but if you heard it, it would
- 15:47Speaker 1: bring you back instantly. You know exactly what it is.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Yes.
- 15:51Speaker 1: So I'm going to throw a few of the audio
- 15:54Speaker 1: components at you. Okay. And you tell me if they
- 15:56Speaker 1: bring back any memories, Christine.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:58Speaker 1: And a few are fairly obvious.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:00Speaker 1: For example. Yeah, you know. The old internet dial-up. It
- 16:13Speaker 1: could be AOL. It could be CompuServe. It could be Prodigy.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Remember Prodigy? That was like 1990. A friend of mine
- 16:19Speaker 1: had Prodigy. Wow. But yeah, this sound.
- 16:21Speaker 3: I remember this very well.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Can't beat it. If I didn't get a connection by here.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:26Speaker 1: You got nervous.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Sometimes it didn't connect. You went through all that and
- 16:29Speaker 3: it didn't connect.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Yes. And then how about this for a recognizable sound?
- 16:33Speaker 1: Your best friend signs on AOL. Or no, you sign
- 16:37Speaker 1: on AOL and then they leave.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Yeah, they left.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Then there's this. You've got mail. A lot of AOL recognizable. Welcome. That. Goodbye. That.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Goodbye.
- 16:48Speaker 1: So that's all the computer stuff. Okay. Now, do you
- 16:50Speaker 1: remember this sound? That's the beginning of a what?
- 17:03Speaker 3: That's mighty intense, dude.
- 17:06Speaker 1: What is that? That'd be a movie theater. That was
- 17:09Speaker 1: the THX intro, they called it.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:13Speaker 1: And you would hear that. I believe that played after
- 17:15Speaker 1: all the trailers.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Right, and you would know the sound was going to
- 17:18Speaker 3: be good.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Correct.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Okay, got it.
- 17:20Speaker 1: So that's an old 90s movie theater thing.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Wow.
- 17:22Speaker 1: This one might be difficult, but this was a sound
- 17:25Speaker 1: that was heard a lot in households.
- 17:26Speaker 4: 80s, 90s.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Here we go. I know it's a little difficult, but.
- 17:38Speaker 3: 80s, 90s.
- 17:40Speaker 1: This is a VCR rewinding a tape.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, that's a tough one.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Yeah, because, I mean, VCRs varied, I guess.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:49Speaker 1: So they didn't all quite sound like that.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I thought, like, you were whipping, like, cake mix, like
- 17:53Speaker 3: a handheld. That's what it sounded like.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I was baking a cake?
- 17:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Okay, what about this?
- 18:01Speaker 3: Hello, 1920s calling.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Yes.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Dial-up phone.
- 18:07Speaker 1: That would be a good old rotary phone. Another easy one,
- 18:12Speaker 1: but I haven't heard this in forever.
- 18:19Speaker 3: That sounds.
- 18:21Speaker 1: This is the end. End of a record. Of a
- 18:23Speaker 1: vinyl record.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Oh, it's so crunchy and pretty. Yeah.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I love that.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 18:28Speaker 3: It lifted up. The needle lifted up right at the
- 18:30Speaker 3: end there.
- 18:30Speaker 1: How about this one? What? Do you know what that was?
- 18:37Speaker 3: No.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Okay. I'll do it again for you. That is a
- 18:44Speaker 1: manual credit card machine. You put your card down and
- 18:50Speaker 1: the card would copy and they'd be like.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Wow.
- 18:55Speaker 1: How about that?
- 18:56Speaker 3: That's tough.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Okay. How about this one?
- 19:11Speaker 3: Oh, like something coming out of the printer.
- 19:13Speaker 1: That is a dot matrix printer where it would take
- 19:17Speaker 1: a good week for nine pages to come out.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Is that my map quest? You know, my directions.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:23Speaker 1: All right. Another thing from Reddit that people say they
- 19:26Speaker 1: recognize immediately when they hear it is this. When was
- 19:31Speaker 1: the last time you heard a busy signal?
- 19:33Speaker 3: We don't hear that anymore.
- 19:34Speaker 1: You don't. It'll ring and go to voicemail, right? Do
- 19:38Speaker 1: you ever hear, maybe if you call Light FM, a
- 19:40Speaker 1: lot of people are calling us, but I don't hear
- 19:42Speaker 1: a business signal very much anymore.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Not really, no.
- 19:45Speaker 1: And then finally, another very recognizable sound you probably haven't
- 19:49Speaker 1: heard in a while. That would be the Windows 95 startup.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Yeah, kind of waiting for that to load.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Yeah, that would take some time too.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So a lot of tech involved, but pretty cool.
- 20:05Speaker 3: We had to sit and wait a moment for our
- 20:07Speaker 3: tech to fire up.
- 20:10Speaker 1: If you wanted to go on your computer, you're right, Christine.
- 20:12Speaker 1: You would turn it on and wait like 10 minutes.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Yeah, like get that thing going. All right, I'll be back, right?
- 20:16Speaker 1: And we'll be back with more variety from the 80s
- 20:18Speaker 1: through today.
- 20:19Speaker 2: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Next on Light FM.
- 20:25Speaker 1: You pretty good at trivia?
- 20:26Speaker 2: Light FM's Trivia Battle.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Here we go, Christine. First day of September, we got
- 20:32Speaker 1: a trivia battle in our hands. And on Team Cubby today,
- 20:36Speaker 1: she's played before. She won about a month ago. She's
- 20:38Speaker 1: back again. Lorraine from Lincoln Park is on the phone. Lorraine,
- 20:42Speaker 1: good morning. Remind us what you do for a living. Teacher, preschool.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Preschool teacher.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It's that time.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Was your first day yesterday or was it today?
- 20:52Speaker 4: Today. I'm on my way there for my first day back.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Oh, how nice.
- 20:56Speaker 1: My daughter, Naomi, started first grade in East Brunswick, New Jersey, yesterday.
- 20:59Speaker 1: So it's slowly starting for everybody. Lorraine, good luck. Now,
- 21:04Speaker 1: who's on Team Christine?
- 21:05Speaker 3: Margarita in Brooklyn. Good morning, Margarita.
- 21:08Speaker 4: Good morning, Christine. Good morning, Cubby. Good morning. Hi.
- 21:11Speaker 3: What are you up to today?
- 21:12Speaker 4: Well, I'm up enjoying the last few days before I
- 21:16Speaker 4: return back to work.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Ah. Okay. Well, we thank you for playing, Margarita. So
- 21:23Speaker 1: in honor of school being back in session for a
- 21:25Speaker 1: lot of people, producer Kristen has come up with a
- 21:27Speaker 1: back-to-school edition of a trivia battle. So all these questions
- 21:31Speaker 1: involve kind of a school theme. Lorraine, you'll go first.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Best out of three wins. You'll both get three questions. Lorraine,
- 21:38Speaker 1: what famous educational institution founded in 1636 is the oldest
- 21:44Speaker 1: university in the United States? Is it A, Yale, B, Rutgers,
- 21:48Speaker 1: or C, Harvard?
- 21:50Speaker 4: I'm going to go with Rutgers.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Rutgers. No, Lorraine, Harvard is your answer. Harvard.
- 21:57Speaker 3: All right.
- 21:57Speaker 1: All right, no score.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Okay, Margarita, here we go. What is the name of
- 22:01Speaker 3: the school Harry Potter attends in the famous book series?
- 22:04Speaker 3: Is it Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Is it
- 22:08Speaker 3: Hogwarts Academy of Magic, or is it Hogwarts Institute?
- 22:14Speaker 1: Hogwarts, the first one.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry would be correct.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:21Speaker 3: All right.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Margarita is 1-0. Yes. All right. Lorraine, what branch of
- 22:26Speaker 1: mathematics focuses on shapes, angles, and measurements? Is it A, algebra, B, geometry,
- 22:33Speaker 1: or C, calculus?
- 22:36Speaker 4: Geometry.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Geometry. And it's tied up 1-1. Okay.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Margarita, what is the smallest unit of matter that still
- 22:44Speaker 3: keeps the properties of an element? Is it A, molecule, B, atom, C, compound?
- 22:52Speaker 1: Molecule.
- 22:55Speaker 3: No. I'm sorry. It's actually atom.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Okay. Lorraine, here we go. You can go up two
- 23:02Speaker 1: to one if you get this right. What famous inventor
- 23:05Speaker 1: helped develop the first practical incandescent light bulb? Is it A,
- 23:10Speaker 1: Thomas Edison, B, Alexander Graham Bell, or C, Benjamin Franklin?
- 23:14Speaker 4: Edison.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Edison.
- 23:16Speaker 3: Correct.
- 23:17Speaker 1: 2-1, Lorraine. Pressure on Margarita.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Margarita, let's go for the tie. What famous scientist developed
- 23:23Speaker 3: the theory of relativity? Was it A, Isaac Newton, B,
- 23:27Speaker 3: Albert Einstein, C, Marie Curie?
- 23:31Speaker 4: Newton.
- 23:33Speaker 2: No.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I'm sorry. It was Albert Einstein.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Margarita... We have to let you go. You have been
- 23:40Speaker 1: defeated by Lorraine.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Enjoy the show, Lorraine.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Thank you. And Margarita, you know you can always call
- 23:47Speaker 3: us again.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:48Speaker 3: So thank you.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Try to call back tomorrow. But right now, the spotlight
- 23:51Speaker 1: on Lorraine.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Lorraine is going to see Sara Morales Friday, September 18th
- 23:55Speaker 3: at Radio City Music Hall. Congratulations.
- 23:58Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 23:59Speaker 2: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Next on Light FM.
- 24:04Speaker 1: We have a really cool prize to give away. We'll
- 24:06Speaker 1: do that in about a minute. It's 106.7 Light FM. Cubby, Christine,
- 24:10Speaker 1: producer Kristen. Checking in on some entertainment news. We mentioned
- 24:14Speaker 1: Lionel Richie last hour, but if you didn't hear, he's okay,
- 24:20Speaker 1: but he's in the hospital. He is.
- 24:21Speaker 3: He checked himself in, actually.
- 24:22Speaker 1: He checked himself in?
- 24:23Speaker 3: Yeah, because he was doing a performance in St. Louis
- 24:25Speaker 3: over the weekend, and I guess he was feeling pretty
- 24:27Speaker 3: weak towards the end of the show, kind of indicated
- 24:30Speaker 3: that he needed to sit down during the performance. So
- 24:34Speaker 3: this is the second time since he's been on this tour.
- 24:37Speaker 1: That's why I'm concerned.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 3: So hopefully, you know, we are wishing him all the best.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Do not go all night long, Lionel. Just go half
- 24:45Speaker 1: the night and then get some rest.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Okay. Don't dance that night away.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Don't dance on the ceiling.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Don't dance on the ceiling. There we go.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Sit down and sing.
- 24:53Speaker 3: On the chair.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Okay.
- 24:55Speaker 3: We're good with that.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Take it easy, Lionel. We love you.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Dolly Parton Estate is holding events to honor her life.
- 25:01Speaker 3: It will be Dolly Fest, the celebration of a lifetime.
- 25:04Speaker 3: To take place in Nashville and London on two weekends
- 25:07Speaker 3: in 2027. We don't have the details as of yet,
- 25:11Speaker 3: but I guess Dolly Parton had left instructions that she
- 25:13Speaker 3: didn't want this big, elaborate memorial, like, for within her family.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:18Speaker 3: You know, but the public, of course, they want to
- 25:21Speaker 3: pay their respects and they miss Dolly. Absolutely. So they'll
- 25:23Speaker 3: be doing that. So we'll give you details as we
- 25:25Speaker 3: get them. And her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, is making a
- 25:28Speaker 3: little change here. If you look at her social media,
- 25:31Speaker 3: she is simply Miley Cyrus.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Oh, it's funny because we do have flowers coming up
- 25:36Speaker 1: before 9 a.m.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Oh, yeah?
- 25:37Speaker 1: And it says Miley Cyrus on the computer. So should
- 25:40Speaker 1: I go into the computer and just delete Cyrus?
- 25:42Speaker 3: Change it to Miley?
- 25:43Speaker 1: So all the other DJs know?
- 25:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 1: So we don't call her Miley Cyrus anymore?
- 25:46Speaker 3: Well, I mean, she hasn't made a statement, but she
- 25:50Speaker 3: is in a way with her Instagram post in capital letters.
- 25:53Speaker 3: She changed it from Miley Cyrus to Miley in caps.
- 25:57Speaker 3: And it follows a mysterious red and black billboard promising
- 26:01Speaker 3: something coming soon. Fueling rumors about new music from Miley.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I remember Janet did this. Janet Jackson said, just call
- 26:08Speaker 1: me Janet. And we called her Janet for a long time.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Did we?
- 26:11Speaker 1: Okay. In the early 90s.
- 26:13Speaker 3: And then we were back to Janet Jackson.
- 26:15Speaker 1: And then we were back to Janet Jackson.
- 26:15Speaker 3: But if you say Janet, it's like we know.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Right. Right.
- 26:18Speaker 3: And if we say Miley, we certainly know.
- 26:20Speaker 1: We know. Exactly. All right. And we're going to wrap
- 26:23Speaker 1: things up with our giveaway here. And we're looking for
- 26:25Speaker 1: caller 10-1-800-222-1067. What do we have, Christine?
- 26:29Speaker 3: Pair of tickets to see Disney's Worlds Collide concert tour
- 26:32Speaker 3: featuring stars from The Descendants, Zombies, and Camp Rock. Films
- 26:35Speaker 3: on November 7th at Barclays Center, November 8th at UBS Arena,
- 26:39Speaker 3: November 10th at Prudential Center. You get to choose. Tickets
- 26:42Speaker 3: on sale now at Ticketmaster.com or.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Call now. Call or attend. And three hours commercial free
- 26:47Speaker 1: with Miley coming up.
