Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We know that her honor the Honorable Vicky O'Halloran AO,
- 0:03Speaker 1: the Administrator of the Northern Territory and Mister Craig o'holleran
- 0:07Speaker 1: departed for the official travel to Canberra yesterday afternoon to
- 0:11Speaker 1: attend the National Memorial Service for Queen Elizabeth for I now,
- 0:15Speaker 1: the service is going to be held in the Great
- 0:17Speaker 1: Hall tomorrow inside Parliament House. There are other associated events
- 0:22Speaker 1: to be held today as well. Now joining me on
- 0:24Speaker 1: the line is her honor the Honorable Vicky o'haleran AO.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Good morning to you, Administrator.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Hello okay from cold Canberra.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Oh, it's always better to be in the Northern Territory,
- 0:36Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You bet already counting.
- 0:41Speaker 1: But you are indeed there for what is an incredibly special,
- 0:45Speaker 1: historic and momentous occasion. What exactly is planned for Australians
- 0:51Speaker 1: to honor the Queen tomorrow?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yes, okay, Prici. We are just very humbled to be here.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So today we'll have a visorygal gathering with their excellencies
- 1:03Speaker 2: the Governor General and Missus Hurley and all the other
- 1:05Speaker 2: state governments. And then tomorrow morning nine point thirty we
- 1:10Speaker 2: depart the hotel and we have morning tea hosted by
- 1:14Speaker 2: Senator Sue Lyon who's the President of the Senate, and
- 1:17Speaker 2: the Honorable Milton Dick who's the Speaker of the House
- 1:20Speaker 2: of the Representatives at Parliament House. And then at eleven
- 1:24Speaker 2: o'clock we attend and participate in the National Memorial Service
- 1:29Speaker 2: that you've just mentioned for her Majesty and I have
- 1:31Speaker 2: been invited to read a prayer on behalf of the
- 1:34Speaker 2: Northern Territory, which I was surprised but very pleased about.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Oh, I bet you must have been very humble to
- 1:41Speaker 1: learn that you would be reading that prayer on behalf
- 1:44Speaker 1: of the Northern Territory.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Oh, definitely, definitely. It's a thrill for me and just
- 1:52Speaker 2: a real opportunity. I was supposed to make sure that
- 1:54Speaker 2: the Northern territories the voice is heard on what, as
- 1:57Speaker 2: you said, is this historical and memorable occasion.
- 2:00Speaker 1: And you're honor, will there be other ways that you
- 2:03Speaker 1: are planning to sort of represent the Northern Territory or
- 2:07Speaker 1: showcase the Northern territory.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Look, we will. There will be another gathering of the
- 2:15Speaker 2: of the State governors post the Memorial service. So it
- 2:19Speaker 2: is an opportunity always for us to get together I
- 2:22Speaker 2: suppose and talk about what's happening in each of the
- 2:25Speaker 2: states and the territory, and you know, exchange ideas and
- 2:31Speaker 2: open invitations, and there's always that opportunity at events like
- 2:35Speaker 2: this to meet up with ambassadors and others that we
- 2:38Speaker 2: host as government house throughout our normal program, and those
- 2:43Speaker 2: links cannot be underestimated. They become friendships over a period
- 2:47Speaker 2: of time, and that I suppose, given this is my
- 2:51Speaker 2: fifth year as the administrator, you really do have a
- 2:55Speaker 2: special bond with many people who are very invested in
- 2:57Speaker 2: our Northern Territory. So I'm here as well as an
- 3:01Speaker 2: ambassador for our Northern Territory to keep those relationships alive
- 3:04Speaker 2: and to make sure that conversations about our nation always
- 3:08Speaker 2: include the Northern Territory and your honor.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Are there other Territorians going to the event in Canberra?
- 3:16Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I noticed at breakfast this morning there are
- 3:20Speaker 2: quite a few other Territorians there, some associated with sport
- 3:25Speaker 2: and business. But I don't have a list of us
- 3:29Speaker 2: who has been invited.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And there is some special stuff happening here in Darwin
- 3:35Speaker 1: tomorrow as well, isn't there.
- 3:37Speaker 2: That's right? So Thursday evening in Darwin, which will coincide
- 3:41Speaker 2: with the day of the memorial service. There'll be a
- 3:44Speaker 2: light projection of images dedicated to Her Majesty about sunset
- 3:49Speaker 2: on Parliament House. It will be very similar to the
- 3:53Speaker 2: projections that we used for the Jubilee, the Platinum Jubilee event,
- 3:58Speaker 2: and the best viewing will be on Liberty Lawns just
- 4:02Speaker 2: opposite Government House, so directly opposite there. So I'd encourage
- 4:06Speaker 2: people to probably bring along a picnic and byo chairs
- 4:11Speaker 2: because one of the comments we had when we had
- 4:13Speaker 2: the Platinum Jubilee event was just how moving those images were.
- 4:18Speaker 2: And here there'll be a great opportunity to take photos.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Obviously a great sunset view from there. And yet the
- 4:26Speaker 2: same time, if people want to lay floral tributes or
- 4:29Speaker 2: cards at Government House at the gates are on the lawns,
- 4:33Speaker 2: that could occur at the same time.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I think that's a fantastic thing to do. So what
- 4:37Speaker 1: time did you say that would be beginning on Thursday evening.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I think I'd start gathering about six to six thirty
- 4:45Speaker 2: just to get your spot. And I mean it's a
- 4:48Speaker 2: big space there anyway, and there is some shade, but
- 4:51Speaker 2: with the sun going down, hopefully a nice breeze, not
- 4:55Speaker 2: as cool as the one here in Canberra. It'll be
- 4:57Speaker 2: a wonderful night. I should mention that Government House is
- 5:01Speaker 2: open today from one till five, yes, for people to
- 5:05Speaker 2: continue to pay their respects and sign the condolence books.
- 5:08Speaker 2: It's just been beautiful to see children coming in during
- 5:11Speaker 2: photos of themselves or drawing pictures of themselves with the Queen,
- 5:15Speaker 2: or pictures of themselves with their animals and sending special messages.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Oh how lovely. And I do think that it's you know,
- 5:22Speaker 1: it is a really nice thing that people are able
- 5:24Speaker 1: to come in and obviously sign the condolence book and
- 5:27Speaker 1: that is something that you then will be passing on
- 5:31Speaker 1: to the royal family, won't you.
- 5:33Speaker 2: That's right. People have been a little bit confused if
- 5:35Speaker 2: they come in and see separate pages, but they will
- 5:39Speaker 2: all be bound into the condolence booklet.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Well, that is wonderful. Well, your honor, the Honorable Vicky
- 5:46Speaker 1: O'Halleran ao, it is always wonderful to speak with you.
- 5:49Speaker 1: We really appreciate all the time that you've given us
- 5:51Speaker 1: over the last couple of weeks as well.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Now look forward to talking to you again, Katie. Thank
- 5:56Speaker 2: you
