- 0:00Speaker 1: We're back with Jim More of the Yukon Football Coaches Show.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Mike chris Pinos to get ready for Florida Atlantic down
- 0:05Speaker 1: in Boca Ratona on Saturday afternoon. Coach, I know you're
- 0:09Speaker 1: going south for this game, but I feel like this
- 0:11Speaker 1: is going to be like the Wild Wild West down there.
- 0:14Speaker 1: These guys they throw the ball all over the place. Obviously,
- 0:18Speaker 1: they score over thirty points a game. Their quarterback, Caden
- 0:21Speaker 1: belt Camp, has thrown at four hundred and twenty nine
- 0:24Speaker 1: times this year, twenty touchdowns. I mean, the ball is
- 0:29Speaker 1: going to be in the air, Isn't it an awful lot.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's a lot different than what we saw last week.
- 0:35Speaker 2: That's for sure.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Totally polar opposites what they do offensively, and they both
- 0:40Speaker 3: do it very very well.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Air force and FAU. I mean they you know, they
- 0:43Speaker 2: sling it around.
- 0:44Speaker 3: They've got great receivers, they've got a really good offensive line.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Your quarterback's a big, long, physical guy. He sees the
- 0:50Speaker 3: field well, has great arm talent, can make all the throws.
- 0:54Speaker 3: He has a receiver that he has great chemistry with
- 0:56Speaker 3: from his days at Western Kentucky. He gets the ball
- 1:01Speaker 3: out of his hand very very quickly. And you know,
- 1:04Speaker 3: I think they're a very complete football team. Very complete
- 1:06Speaker 3: football team, but specific to their offense, they presented a
- 1:10Speaker 3: great challenge. You know, they make you defend the entire
- 1:12Speaker 3: field and they go fast and they've got playmakers all over,
- 1:15Speaker 3: but it all runs through that quarterback.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Caden bilt Camp where's number ten for them? Did transfer
- 1:21Speaker 1: from Western Kentucky. And Jim you're mentioning his size. He's
- 1:25Speaker 1: six to six and he's had a couple of games
- 1:27Speaker 1: where he's completed thirty five passes. That's not small change
- 1:31Speaker 1: against USF which was a top twenty team, and at Tulane.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I think last week he completed thirty nine passes. Yeah,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I mean that is a heck of a number to
- 1:41Speaker 1: throw up there if you're a quarterback.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Oh, and I'm sure he loves it. You know, quarterbacks
- 1:45Speaker 3: want to throw the ball. And then you know they're
- 1:48Speaker 3: a Florida team. They play on grass. It's Bermuda grass,
- 1:51Speaker 3: it's cut low, it's fast.
- 1:53Speaker 2: They've got a lot of athletes.
- 1:56Speaker 3: He plays with a tremendous amount of confidence, which he should.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Coaches have confidence in him. They like putting the ball
- 2:02Speaker 3: in his hands and letting him go. Like I said,
- 2:04Speaker 3: it's a very very talented football team going in.
- 2:09Speaker 1: They rush for about one hundred and two yards a game,
- 2:11Speaker 1: they throw for three twenty nine. This team, with their
- 2:16Speaker 1: wideouts and number eight Easton Messer's got eighty three catches
- 2:20Speaker 1: five touchdowns. Asad was seen, Junior here was a transfer
- 2:24Speaker 1: from Colorado. He's caught fifty passes. These guys obviously get open.
- 2:30Speaker 1: How much of a challenge is this going to be
- 2:32Speaker 1: for your secondary to keep these guys under some kind
- 2:35Speaker 1: of raps.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Well, it's a real challenge.
- 2:38Speaker 3: And you know, when you got a guy like that
- 2:39Speaker 3: playing quarterback and you have the talent they haven't receiver
- 2:41Speaker 3: and the offensive line being as skilled as they are,
- 2:43Speaker 3: it's a real challenge. What we need to do is
- 2:45Speaker 3: have a good combination of kite coverage and hopefully get
- 2:49Speaker 3: pressure on the quarterback. It all starts with coming out
- 2:51Speaker 3: and being able to establish the fact that we are
- 2:54Speaker 3: committed to stopping the run, and then we got to
- 2:58Speaker 3: be able to make some plays, some tough plays, those
- 3:00Speaker 3: close plays, win some fifty to fifty balls. But it's
- 3:04Speaker 3: gonna be I think it's a game that our players
- 3:07Speaker 3: will enjoy playing because it's so different than last week.
- 3:13Speaker 3: You know, I know the secondary will you know, they
- 3:15Speaker 3: like it. It's a challenge and you know, guys are
- 3:19Speaker 3: competitors and they want that challenge.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yeah, this team, FAU were talking about how much they
- 3:25Speaker 1: throw it around, but they have turned it over too.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I mean Caden belt Camp has thrown fourteen interceptions. Yukon
- 3:33Speaker 1: obviously with ten interceptions on the season, plus twelve in
- 3:37Speaker 1: the turnover category. And we talk about this pretty much
- 3:41Speaker 1: every week. Being able to turn them over might turn
- 3:46Speaker 1: the field over and put Yukon's offense in great position.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I think that's what the hope is.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, that's the hope. We don't go in talking
- 3:53Speaker 3: about getting the ball. We go in talking about doing
- 3:56Speaker 3: our job, being a position. If a play is there,
- 3:58Speaker 3: go make it, and that mess isn't going to change.
- 4:01Speaker 3: So yeah, but I mean, you know, we all know
- 4:04Speaker 3: turnover ratio is one of the critical variables to win
- 4:07Speaker 3: a football game, and so it's something that we certainly
- 4:10Speaker 3: want to happen. But it's not like it's more the
- 4:13Speaker 3: process and the result that will get you what you want.
- 4:19Speaker 1: This is going to be a bit of a cat
- 4:20Speaker 1: and mouse game. I think defensive coordinators are so important,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and Matt Brock is a really good one. I was
- 4:27Speaker 1: around some good ones over the years. Bill Belichick, Steve Spagnolo,
- 4:31Speaker 1: You have thirty five sacks as a team now, that
- 4:35Speaker 1: just doesn't happen. Obviously, you got to make plays physically,
- 4:39Speaker 1: but don't you have to outguess them a little bit
- 4:42Speaker 1: in terms of when you're going to put extra pressure
- 4:44Speaker 1: on quarterbacks and and force you know, throws that the
- 4:48Speaker 1: quarterback doesn't want to make. Is that part of the
- 4:50Speaker 1: whole process for sure?
- 4:52Speaker 3: And you know, good coordinators get a feel through film
- 4:56Speaker 3: study of tendencies of play callers on the other side,
- 5:00Speaker 3: and then you hope that they guess right. And when
- 5:04Speaker 3: they guess right, you hope that the players are in
- 5:07Speaker 3: the positions they need to be to make the play.
- 5:09Speaker 3: And you hope that when you guess wrong, your players
- 5:11Speaker 3: will bail you out. And so, you know, it's a
- 5:15Speaker 3: combination of those things because you're never going to be
- 5:17Speaker 3: right one hundred percent of the time when you're in
- 5:19Speaker 3: a guessing game. I think it's and I don't think
- 5:22Speaker 3: it's necessarily should referred to as a guessing game. It's
- 5:25Speaker 3: just film study and knowledge of tendencies, but you can't
- 5:29Speaker 3: possibly get every call right.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And when you have good football.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Players that understand your defense and they understand the strengths
- 5:37Speaker 3: and the weaknesses of each call versus what opponents are
- 5:39Speaker 3: trying to do, then you have a group of guys
- 5:42Speaker 3: that can bail you out if you don't make a
- 5:44Speaker 3: very good call.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Are the Owls of team that will check down and
- 5:48Speaker 1: throw out in the flats to their running backs.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Listen, Mike, when you throw it as much as they
- 5:54Speaker 3: have thrown it in the past, you're spreading around, you know,
- 5:58Speaker 3: and it's a I don't know if they define it
- 6:01Speaker 3: as a take what you give you offense, but I
- 6:03Speaker 3: think every offense, you know, every good offense, and they
- 6:06Speaker 3: are a very good offense. You know, they have systems
- 6:10Speaker 3: built for every particular that you might.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Show them on defense.
- 6:14Speaker 3: So getting the ball to the backs, you know, on
- 6:16Speaker 3: check downs, getting to the ball to their playmakers in space.
- 6:18Speaker 2: That's what good offensive.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Coordinators do, is they get the ball to their playmakers
- 6:21Speaker 3: in space and then the players go to make plays.
- 6:23Speaker 2: And that's what Fau has been able to do all right.
- 6:26Speaker 1: The Owls and the Huskies getting after its Saturday afternoon,
- 6:30Speaker 1: Don and Boca Ratone. Should be good, weather, should be
- 6:33Speaker 1: a fast track. It should be an exciting football game
- 6:36Speaker 1: thanks to Jim Mora. We've got to Umar Dimonde coming up,
- 6:39Speaker 1: Jackson Harper as well, so stay tuned. Coach, good luck
- 6:42Speaker 1: this weekend, Go get them.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Thank you guys, take care of Mike.
- 6:46Speaker 1: All right, that's Jim Mora. We're back with more as
- 6:48Speaker 1: we continue our coverage. If you con football, now eight
- 6:51Speaker 1: and three on the season, looking for number nine at
