- 0:01Speaker 1: Here we go, third hour the Morning Show with President Scott.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You're talking with our good friend from the James Madison Institute,
- 0:10Speaker 1: doctor Bob McClure. And good to see you, sir. How
- 0:13Speaker 1: are you well. I'm doing great, but you're a wealth
- 0:16Speaker 1: of information. Off air, we holy smoked, right right, yeah,
- 0:21Speaker 1: But but you know what we were we were talking fundamentally,
- 0:26Speaker 1: you know, the America, We've we've lost our way a
- 0:30Speaker 1: little bit. We've lost control of the public education system,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and I think we're fighting to catch up.
- 0:35Speaker 2: We are, we are and and and you know, there's
- 0:40Speaker 2: some things I haven't agreed with with the President on,
- 0:44Speaker 2: but this is a struggle we did. I don't think
- 0:49Speaker 2: we realized just how horrible the last four years have been.
- 0:54Speaker 2: You probably saw yesterday. And and this is I wouldn't
- 0:57Speaker 2: say minor, but it's certainly the issue. They revised downwardly
- 1:00Speaker 2: almost a million job creation. You know, it's nine hundred
- 1:04Speaker 2: and eleven thousand. Oh, they just revised it downward during
- 1:08Speaker 2: the Biden administration. That's just one thing we're you know,
- 1:12Speaker 2: we can go over all the other sortid issues, the
- 1:17Speaker 2: auto pen the you know, twenty one percent cumulative inflation,
- 1:22Speaker 2: the debt, the the embarrassment on the international stage, no
- 1:27Speaker 2: fear from our enemies. Listen, do you think it matters?
- 1:30Speaker 1: I asked this of Congresswoman Kat Camick. Does it matter
- 1:34Speaker 1: that we know who was running the country when Joe
- 1:38Speaker 1: Biden was sitting in the office, because he certainly wasn't.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it does. I think we have to
- 1:43Speaker 2: find out. I think we have. And that's the you know, this,
- 1:46Speaker 2: this auto pen thing is easy for people to say,
- 1:49Speaker 2: come on, it's not let's just move on. I get it.
- 1:52Speaker 2: But we have to find out who was running the country,
- 1:54Speaker 2: whether it was Susan Rice or you know, somebody else.
- 1:58Speaker 1: It was Barack Obama or Barack Obama, it's the Obiden administration.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Right right, right right, But we have to find out
- 2:06Speaker 2: what happened because we have these people, you know there,
- 2:10Speaker 2: it's notorious in DC. Nobody ever pays. There are no consequences,
- 2:13Speaker 2: and the American people understand that, and that's why they're
- 2:16Speaker 2: so disgusted with both parties and really why Trump wins. Yes,
- 2:21Speaker 2: because they're disgusted with both parties and there are never
- 2:24Speaker 2: any consequences. And so but we have to find out
- 2:26Speaker 2: what happened. We have to get answers. It's the slow process,
- 2:30Speaker 2: but we're getting there. All those behind closed door meetings
- 2:34Speaker 2: with different people, it's it's important to do.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Since you and I last visited, Jam, I released a
- 2:39Speaker 1: study tell us about it.
- 2:42Speaker 2: It was on an election reform called the gold standard.
- 2:47Speaker 2: How Florida became the gold standard for the country from
- 2:51Speaker 2: Bush v. Bush v.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Gore to today. Isn't that a lesson on? Okay, you
- 2:56Speaker 1: screwed up, look at what you did and fix it.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's exactly what we did. And so everybody
- 3:03Speaker 2: remembers Bush v. Gore and the hanging Chad's and the
- 3:06Speaker 2: chaos and oh my gosh, Shepherd Smith, Yeah yeah, Shep Smith,
- 3:11Speaker 2: whatever happened to that guy? And then you know Tallahassee,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, I know where that reporter stand and
- 3:17Speaker 2: I know he's you know, behind him is the old
- 3:19Speaker 2: Singh store right or whatever?
- 3:21Speaker 1: You know?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Right? And now here we are today, just go back
- 3:26Speaker 2: to the most recent election. First of all, we have
- 3:28Speaker 2: twenty three million people in this state. We have a
- 3:30Speaker 2: thousand people moving here today almost We have two time zones.
- 3:34Speaker 2: We are the most diverse state in the country, along
- 3:36Speaker 2: with Texas and California. And yet we know by midnight
- 3:41Speaker 2: every single election now who's won every race up and
- 3:44Speaker 2: down the ballot, every every night. And there are a
- 3:47Speaker 2: lot of there are a lot of reasons why. And
- 3:49Speaker 2: so the study looks at how did we get from
- 3:53Speaker 2: the chaos and the incompetence of Bush v. Gore to
- 3:56Speaker 2: being the single best state when it comes to running elections.
- 4:00Speaker 2: We're not a static state. We're not a small state.
- 4:02Speaker 2: We are a vast dynamic. I mean, you've got Liberty
- 4:06Speaker 2: County with eleven thousand people in the entire county, and
- 4:09Speaker 2: you've got Miami Dade with almost three million, like two
- 4:12Speaker 2: point eight. How do we do it? And so it
- 4:16Speaker 2: is an opportunity for other states to look and say, Okay,
- 4:21Speaker 2: Florida can do that. We can do that, we can
- 4:23Speaker 2: do that. California is probably still counting ballots from last November, right,
- 4:28Speaker 2: and so, and we can get into talk about conspiracy theorists.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I believe there are people who want chaos in our elections.
- 4:36Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah. So, but in what we find out, and this
- 4:41Speaker 2: is for for your our conservative friends who are listening,
- 4:44Speaker 2: the left wants to argue process Preston. We want to
- 4:48Speaker 2: argue policy, and when you fix the process, the left
- 4:51Speaker 2: has to argue policy and they lose. And that's why
- 4:54Speaker 2: Florida's gold standard is so important.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Back with doctor Bob McLure the James Madison Institute, we're
- 5:03Speaker 1: talking about elections, we're talking about the gold standard that
- 5:08Speaker 1: is now Florida. Yet we still have other places that
- 5:13Speaker 1: aren't doing. This is where I've argued, I think that constitutionally,
- 5:17Speaker 1: doctor McClure, there's an argument that can be made legally
- 5:21Speaker 1: that the government has a right to set standards for
- 5:25Speaker 1: how federal elections are conducted, how a state runs its
- 5:29Speaker 1: own elections. No, it cannot, but it can say, in
- 5:32Speaker 1: my opinion, okay, you're going to all use optical scanners
- 5:36Speaker 1: and a paper ballot, so there's a backup, so we
- 5:38Speaker 1: have a paper backup of everything.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Well, I think the Trump administration is trying to do that.
- 5:43Speaker 2: You saw with the executive order on voter ID. Right.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Is it going to hold up in court?
- 5:47Speaker 1: I don't know, But wouldn't that be the argument, Hey,
- 5:51Speaker 1: you do your state however you want, but from a
- 5:53Speaker 1: federal election standpoint, Because I thought the Supreme Court was
- 5:56Speaker 1: wrong to say, Texas didn't have standing when it challenged
- 5:59Speaker 1: the twenty two twenty race, right, because every state has
- 6:02Speaker 1: standing when the election affects every state.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Right. Well, yeah, courts are reluctant to get involved in
- 6:08Speaker 2: those kinds of things. Yeah, post the elections. So I
- 6:11Speaker 2: think there's part of that. But I do, yes, and
- 6:14Speaker 2: I think there's a role for the feds. The question
- 6:17Speaker 2: is who's fed Is it going to be Is it
- 6:20Speaker 2: going to be the Biden administrations federal government or the
- 6:23Speaker 2: Trump administration's federal government. So that that is, and that
- 6:26Speaker 2: leads to another concern. You know, Look, I'm I'm I'm
- 6:30Speaker 2: bullish on President Trump. I think he's doing some great things.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I'm kind of a Trump a la carte. There's some
- 6:35Speaker 2: things I don't I don't like, I don't like taking
- 6:37Speaker 2: over intel. I don't know.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Probably me. I'm not an always Trumper and I'm not
- 6:41Speaker 1: an never Trump.
- 6:41Speaker 2: No no, no, no, no no, and so. But but I do believe,
- 6:46Speaker 2: you know, there's a role for the FEDS to play
- 6:48Speaker 2: in elections with some of these things. My concern is
- 6:53Speaker 2: what happens when you have a Biden type administration in
- 6:57Speaker 2: charge and then they're all of a sudden deciding hows
- 7:00Speaker 2: are going to be run in Pennsylvania or in Wisconsin
- 7:03Speaker 2: or you know, some of the other problem children, Arizona, Georgia,
- 7:08Speaker 2: although Georgia seems to have fixed a lot of its problems.
- 7:11Speaker 2: So that's fully right, right, So that's my concern. But
- 7:15Speaker 2: I do think the FED, can you know what incentives matter? Right?
- 7:18Speaker 2: Disincentives matter, So I think the FED has a role
- 7:21Speaker 2: to play certainly there when it comes to elections and
- 7:25Speaker 2: election reform. There is no reason, Preston for states not
- 7:31Speaker 2: to know within twenty four hours, even the night of
- 7:35Speaker 2: the election who won. And one of the things Florida
- 7:37Speaker 2: does is they count ahead of time. Right now, we
- 7:41Speaker 2: don't know how Preston Scott voted, but we know that
- 7:44Speaker 2: Preston Scott has voted. And every night you can go
- 7:47Speaker 2: on Twitter and see, oh, one hundred thousand Republicans voted
- 7:51Speaker 2: in Florida, eighty thousand Democrats and fifty thousand no party
- 7:54Speaker 2: affiliation NPAs.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Every day and when the pod and when the polls close,
- 7:59Speaker 1: those numbers are released, yes, not before.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Though, yes. And the mail in ballot I know the
- 8:04Speaker 2: President doesn't like mail in ballots. I'm they give me
- 8:08Speaker 2: some heartburn. But they work in Florida. They have to
- 8:10Speaker 2: be in by seven o'clock.
- 8:12Speaker 1: That's the key. In some of these states. They're saying
- 8:15Speaker 1: that they can come in whenever.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Give me a break, right, two weeks, four weeks later, Yes,
- 8:20Speaker 2: not signed. You know you signed an affidavit every time
- 8:24Speaker 2: you mail in your ballots saying that is me. You
- 8:27Speaker 2: know that's a felony here in Florida if that's not you.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And so you know they have to be in that day,
- 8:34Speaker 2: that night that you can drop them off. You can
- 8:36Speaker 2: track it online, you know, mark early here in Leon County.
- 8:41Speaker 2: You know, my elderly grandfather or grandfather father doesn't drive anymore.
- 8:45Speaker 2: He fills out his ballot, you drop it off. I
- 8:48Speaker 2: can track it online. My grandfather and my father didn't
- 8:50Speaker 2: even know what online means.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And but but we and it's incumbent on the voter,
- 8:54Speaker 1: Bob to take into account. For example, right now in Tallahassee,
- 8:58Speaker 1: our mail goes to jack when it comes back, well,
- 9:01Speaker 1: I guess if you're gonna vote by mail, you better
- 9:03Speaker 1: take that into account.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Yes, and you better have it.
- 9:06Speaker 1: You know, you better take a couple of weeks to
- 9:08Speaker 1: make sure your ballet gets in on time, right, and
- 9:10Speaker 1: why we don't do that nationwide and say okay, when
- 9:13Speaker 1: at eleven to fifty nine, that's it, they don't have it.
- 9:15Speaker 1: It doesn't count. Yeah, we're not there.
- 9:18Speaker 2: No, No, we're not because there are people who want
- 9:21Speaker 2: chaos because it gins up voter turnout for certain groups
- 9:26Speaker 2: from one. But it also takes your focus off of
- 9:30Speaker 2: the issues and turns the focus to Jim Crow two
- 9:35Speaker 2: point zero or racism, the crisis of the day driving
- 9:41Speaker 2: down voter turnout of certain groups. Yes, the crisis of
- 9:44Speaker 2: the day instead of the policies that matter. That's what
- 9:49Speaker 2: I love about Donald Trump. That is one thing he's doing.
- 9:52Speaker 2: He has said this is you'll like me, this is
- 9:54Speaker 2: what I'm gonna do, and gone, and he's doing it.
- 9:56Speaker 2: The second thing is he gets he's getting after it
- 9:59Speaker 2: like Washington, d C. And And you know all of
- 10:02Speaker 2: these different things. People know what he's gonna do. They
- 10:05Speaker 2: may not love him, they may be agnostic towards him.
- 10:07Speaker 2: They probably voted for him. But but but Kamala Harris
- 10:11Speaker 2: never said what she was going to do. There was
- 10:13Speaker 2: no he never knew what she was going to do.
- 10:16Speaker 2: She wasn't capable of saying no, she's afraid to say it.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Joining is doctor Bob McClure. More to come on the
- 10:22Speaker 2: Morning Show with Preston Scott. Final few minutes here with
- 10:31Speaker 2: doctor Bob McClure with the James Madison Institute. You may
- 10:36Speaker 2: or may not have heard my visit yesterday with Paul Renner.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Uh In disclosure, Paul was an associate worked briefly with
- 10:42Speaker 2: the johnsh Madison Institute, SCLN residents at JMI good Man
- 10:47Speaker 2: Bright Bright, delightful, sharp button down. With that said, give
- 10:53Speaker 2: me your evaluation of kind of where we are in
- 10:55Speaker 2: the governor's race. Well, I think you have Paul's jumped in.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I think obviously Byron is.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Kind of the lead dog out of the gate because
- 11:08Speaker 1: of Trump's endorsement.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Oh, it's got to be Trump's endorsement. If you we
- 11:13Speaker 2: did a poll at JMI. Now this was before Renerd
- 11:16Speaker 2: Paul got in. Now full disclosure. I know both gentlemen
- 11:19Speaker 2: really well. I like both of them very much. They'd
- 11:22Speaker 2: both do a great job. We did a poll at JMI,
- 11:28Speaker 2: and we had at that point it was Byron Donald's
- 11:32Speaker 2: against Casey DeSantis in the field. Okay, because at that
- 11:37Speaker 2: point this was you know, six months ago people thought
- 11:40Speaker 2: Casey was going to get in.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Is this strictly GOP nomination?
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, we did. We did a democratic polling as well, Okay,
- 11:46Speaker 2: but that was separate. But we did. It was democratic
- 11:49Speaker 2: the democratic field. When people did not know that Byron
- 11:53Speaker 2: was in the Republican primary, did not know when that
- 11:55Speaker 2: Byron was endorsed by Trump. When they did not know it,
- 11:59Speaker 2: it was basically eve in between Byron and Casey. When
- 12:02Speaker 2: they found out that Trump had endorsed Byron, He's up
- 12:06Speaker 2: twenty three points over Casey. So you look at Trump's
- 12:11Speaker 2: work in Florida. In twenty sixteen, he barely won the
- 12:13Speaker 2: state one hundred thousand votes. In twenty twenty, he wins
- 12:15Speaker 2: it by four hundred thousand. In twenty twenty four, he
- 12:18Speaker 2: wins it by a million and.
- 12:19Speaker 1: A half votes. He trounced. It's a lot like the
- 12:21Speaker 1: DeSantis curve.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Right, right, Yeah, that's exactly right. And so Florida has
- 12:26Speaker 2: become more and more read. There are a lot of
- 12:28Speaker 2: reasons why, driven by a Hispanic community growth that is
- 12:33Speaker 2: very conservative, and finally Republican conservatives figured out how to
- 12:38Speaker 2: talk to, you know, various groups in the correct way
- 12:42Speaker 2: voter registration in Florida, I mean well over a million.
- 12:45Speaker 2: It might be a million and a half. Now more
- 12:47Speaker 2: Republicans than Democrats. The Democratic parties in trouble, in danger
- 12:52Speaker 2: of becoming a third party in Florida behind NPAs.
- 12:55Speaker 1: It's like a almost a two and a half to
- 12:57Speaker 1: three million votes swing.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah in registrate. Yeah, and we see that naturally. But
- 13:01Speaker 2: in Florida, Florida is the canary in the coal mine.
- 13:04Speaker 2: It always is when it comes to policy. So the
- 13:07Speaker 2: Democratic Party here, what do they? I mean, they're a
- 13:09Speaker 2: train wreck, right, I mean they're for weed and no
- 13:12Speaker 2: bunch and no right, weed and abortion. That's really kind
- 13:16Speaker 2: of all Nikky Free talks about, right. And So the
- 13:22Speaker 2: point is that when Byron has that endorsement, when it's
- 13:27Speaker 2: clear to the Republican primary voter, he wins the primary.
- 13:31Speaker 2: He's up twenty three. Paul is a great guy. Paul's
- 13:34Speaker 2: gonna give Byron a run for his money. We need
- 13:37Speaker 2: good people. Iron sharpens iron absolutely. I think that's great.
- 13:41Speaker 2: We don't need a coronation, right.
- 13:42Speaker 1: What I hope is they don't make each other enemies,
- 13:44Speaker 1: that they consider each other colleagues and just to sharpen
- 13:48Speaker 1: each other, right, right.
- 13:49Speaker 2: But there's a third variable that's out there, and that's
- 13:51Speaker 2: Jay Collins. Do you think the lieutenant government? I mean,
- 13:54Speaker 2: I'm just saying it's a variable. I don't know what
- 13:57Speaker 2: that means.
- 13:57Speaker 1: What about Casey DeSantis? You think she's made the decision
- 14:01Speaker 1: just to lay.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Out I have no knowledge of it. Yeah, I don't know.
- 14:05Speaker 1: It just seems that the talk has died away.
- 14:09Speaker 2: M yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Is there any viable candidate on the Democrats side? Jason
- 14:14Speaker 1: Pizzo to me put a a nail in the coffin
- 14:18Speaker 1: of the Democrats when he said, I can't even be
- 14:19Speaker 1: part of your party.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Right right? I mean David Jolly, who is the Charlie
- 14:24Speaker 2: crist Of of the you know, Republican Democrats, humiliated himself. So,
- 14:31Speaker 2: I mean, short of some scandal we're unaware of, Preston,
- 14:35Speaker 2: I don't. I don't see it, but I do think.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I do think the primary is going to be uh
- 14:42Speaker 2: healthy or can be can be healthy and a and
- 14:45Speaker 2: a good thing to have. Let's let's argue, let's let's
- 14:48Speaker 2: fight it out. Let's sharpen our positions so that when
- 14:51Speaker 2: we get to the general they're ready to go. So
- 14:54Speaker 2: I think it's a good thing. Paul's a great guy,
- 14:56Speaker 2: Byron's a great guy. Jay Collins is a great guy.
- 14:58Speaker 2: I'm all absolutely and I you know, I think it's
- 15:02Speaker 2: I don't think it's a bad thing.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I want whoever is going to be willing to tackle
- 15:05Speaker 1: the Everify problem. I have personal reasons for that. Yeah,
- 15:09Speaker 1: thanks for the time. Thanks for having me always, Doctor
- 15:11Speaker 1: Bob McLure of the James Madison Institute my guests, twenty
- 15:14Speaker 1: seven past the Hour
