- 1:49Speaker 3: the end of the week. What a stormy night in
- 1:50Speaker 3: parts of West Virginia, including the Canal Valley. Now at
- 1:52Speaker 3: one point there are about eighty two thousand people in
- 1:55Speaker 3: West Virginia without power, and Jeff just told us on
- 1:59Speaker 3: the news over twelve thousand currently in canaw County or
- 2:02Speaker 3: without power. Story posted about it wv Metronews dot com.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Apparently I slept through the entire thing because I knew
- 2:09Speaker 3: nothing of it until I woke up this morning. The
- 2:12Speaker 3: City of Charleston did put out a statement saying there
- 2:15Speaker 3: were down power lines and trees in various areas, loud
- 2:17Speaker 3: in the Heights North Charleston, among other places. So we'll
- 2:21Speaker 3: touch on that perhaps a little bit later on, but
- 2:23Speaker 3: again we do have information available about it at wv
- 2:25Speaker 3: metronews dot com. There were several schools closed in Canawan
- 2:28Speaker 3: County as well, So just yeah, stormy night, very rare
- 2:32Speaker 3: for this time of year to have those kind of
- 2:34Speaker 3: storms roll through. Coming up on the show a little
- 2:37Speaker 3: bit later on, down a Good jb Acres is going
- 2:39Speaker 3: to be stopping by it and as you know, the
- 2:41Speaker 3: Charleston Area Alliance has been doing this holiday window decorating contest.
- 2:45Speaker 3: We're going to be joined by Susy Salisbury from the
- 2:47Speaker 3: Alliance and one of the winners, also, doctor Casey Sacksonbridge Valley,
- 2:50Speaker 3: will stop by and we're gonna have a little giveaway
- 2:52Speaker 3: a little later on the show courtesy to the folks
- 2:54Speaker 3: at Pinnacle Consultants, and your calls and text are always

- 3:06Speaker 3: But before we got an Angie gill in water stand to
- 3:07Speaker 3: buy for the Cannal Charleston Humane Association with this week's
- 3:09Speaker 3: Adopt Me Please pet of the Week. Before we do that,
- 3:12Speaker 3: I do want to get to this first. Yesterday on
- 3:14Speaker 3: the show, we had former legislator Chris Pritt on who
- 3:16Speaker 3: announced on the show but he'd be running for State
- 3:19Speaker 3: Senate in District seventeen. Your host here failed to ask
- 3:22Speaker 3: him which seat he was running four. Those seats are
- 3:25Speaker 3: currently held by doctor Tom Tacubo and Anne Sharknock, respectively.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Someone called the show inquiring about which seat Chris was
- 3:32Speaker 3: going to be running for, and I promised the caller
- 3:34Speaker 3: I would get the answer from Chris. So here it is.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Chris Pritt is running for the seat currently held by
- 3:38Speaker 3: Tom Tacubo. So there is your answer. And I apologize
- 3:42Speaker 3: for not asking him that on the air. To be
- 3:44Speaker 3: honest with you, I simply forgot Chris. Chris Prett will
- 3:48Speaker 3: be running for State Senate in District seventeen for the
- 3:51Speaker 3: seat that's currently held by Tom Tokubo. Now that we
- 3:55Speaker 3: have that taking care of, let's welcome to Angie Gillen
- 3:56Speaker 3: Water from the Canneal Charleston Humane Association with this week's
- 3:59Speaker 3: Adopt Me Please of the Week. Angie, Good morning, and
- 4:02Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
- 4:03Speaker 5: You mean gooda morning.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Gooda morning. I've already made that joke. I've already made
- 4:07Speaker 3: Ryan roll his eyes in the production booth this morning,
- 4:10Speaker 3: because we're going we get to Gooda here in a moment.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Anything to report on your end as far as the
- 4:15Speaker 3: storms at the shelter or in your personal dwelling. What
- 4:20Speaker 3: can you tell us?
- 4:21Speaker 5: I'm in the same boat as you, and I think
- 4:23Speaker 5: I just slept everything last night. I had no idea
- 4:26Speaker 5: there was a storm. But surprisingly we all of us
- 4:30Speaker 5: at the shelter, we finally got a win. The power
- 4:33Speaker 5: was on and there was no damage to the building.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Very good, Very good. I did get to hang out
- 4:38Speaker 3: with you a little bit last Saturday at Valley Park
- 4:40Speaker 3: and Hurricane were you guys, and also the shelters and
- 4:43Speaker 3: Putnam can There were actually several that came together with
- 4:46Speaker 3: this big group adoption event held last week in the
- 4:49Speaker 3: Valley Park. How did it go?
- 4:52Speaker 5: So across all the shelters that were attending, there were
- 4:55Speaker 5: around twenty five adoptions and we actually had ten of
- 4:59Speaker 5: them as ten of our Kha dogs were adopted. Was
- 5:02Speaker 5: very exciting.
- 5:03Speaker 3: It was a it was a great event, and you
- 5:05Speaker 3: held it, you know, before the snow arrived. You know,
- 5:08Speaker 3: I know you were a little concerned about that. But
- 5:11Speaker 3: I will say this, I've never been to an adoption
- 5:13Speaker 3: event that had that many dogs in one place. Of course,
- 5:16Speaker 3: you had an all inside kind of a little tent thing.
- 5:19Speaker 3: It was a little loud in there.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I was gonna say I can still kind of
- 5:23Speaker 5: hear about one hundred dogs all barking at one time.
- 5:26Speaker 3: So well, it was a good event and hats off
- 5:29Speaker 3: to you and everybody for taking part in that. All right,
- 5:31Speaker 3: let's get to our adopt me. Please put it the week.
- 5:33Speaker 3: As always, the pet has posted picture posted Dave Island
- 5:36Speaker 3: Radio on Facebook and also at the WCCHS Network Facebook page,
- 5:40Speaker 3: as well as at Dave A seventy on X. You
- 5:43Speaker 3: mentioned the name earlier, It's Guda. Tell us about Guda.
- 5:47Speaker 5: So Guda actually came to Kha as a puppy. When
- 5:50Speaker 5: she was about two to three months old. She was
- 5:54Speaker 5: adopted and recently she has found her way back to
- 5:57Speaker 5: Kha sadly, and she is very, very very scared in
- 6:01Speaker 5: the shelter right now. She doesn't really like to walk
- 6:04Speaker 5: on the leash. She has to be carried everywhere, which
- 6:07Speaker 5: would be fine, but she's you know, close to thirty
- 6:09Speaker 5: forty pounds, so it's a little difficult to carry her everywhere.
- 6:14Speaker 5: She's about almost two years old. She's already been stayed,
- 6:17Speaker 5: she's up to dated on her vaccines, and she does
- 6:20Speaker 5: great with other dogs. They kind of bring her out
- 6:22Speaker 5: of her show a little bit, and she also does
- 6:25Speaker 5: great with kids. We don't know about cats, however, with
- 6:29Speaker 5: how shy she is, she'll probably be afraid of cats
- 6:31Speaker 5: in your home.
- 6:32Speaker 3: So and we don't know what her story was. As
- 6:35Speaker 3: far as you know, you said that she came to
- 6:37Speaker 3: the shelter when she was a puppy and somehow found
- 6:39Speaker 3: her way back, So we don't We don't know what
- 6:41Speaker 3: the story is, right correct.
- 6:44Speaker 5: I do know that the person that adopted her brought
- 6:46Speaker 5: her back to the shelter, but I don't know exactly
- 6:48Speaker 5: what happened as if you know, they couldn't take care
- 6:51Speaker 5: of her anymore, they were moving.
- 6:53Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 6:53Speaker 5: I'm not sure exactly what happened there, but they had
- 6:57Speaker 5: her for almost two years, so I assume it was
- 6:59Speaker 5: something pretty serio.
- 7:00Speaker 3: It happen, well it and it happens. But but you know,
- 7:03Speaker 3: it is also sad, you know, when a pet gets
- 7:07Speaker 3: attached to a family or an individual like that and
- 7:09Speaker 3: they suddenly get brought back and they you know, they
- 7:11Speaker 3: don't understand why or anything like that. So we don't know.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I don't want to throw any shade on the people
- 7:16Speaker 3: because we don't know what happened, and they did do
- 7:17Speaker 3: the right thing by at least bringing it back, as
- 7:19Speaker 3: opposed to like a lot of people do, just you know,
- 7:22Speaker 3: setting it out somewhere or just going off and leaving it.
- 7:24Speaker 3: That happens, unfortunately. So but what you're telling me about
- 7:27Speaker 3: the behavior of the dog though it, I mean, how
- 7:30Speaker 3: good a girl she is, I can't imagine it would
- 7:32Speaker 3: have been based on what you're telling me behavior related.
- 7:36Speaker 5: No, I know, it definitely was not Guda's fault. I
- 7:39Speaker 5: think it was something going on in their life as
- 7:42Speaker 5: to why they brought her back. So but Guda is
- 7:44Speaker 5: a great dog, that's what. Like I said, these behaviors
- 7:48Speaker 5: that she's showing at the Shelter of Fear will go
- 7:50Speaker 5: away once she gets comfortable in a home. But yeah,
- 7:54Speaker 5: that's so we're thankful that they came in and discussed
- 7:57Speaker 5: bringing Guda back with us rather than you know, tying
- 7:59Speaker 5: her to the fen r in the parking lot.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Don't get me started on that. Don't get me started
- 8:04Speaker 3: on that.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Any idea.
- 8:05Speaker 3: What kind of dog gooda is?
- 8:07Speaker 5: Oh? So she she's interesting looking she I would say,
- 8:11Speaker 5: maybe like a shepherd mix, but West Virginia brown dog
- 8:15Speaker 5: all the way, all the way.
- 8:16Speaker 3: That's the first thing I thought of. The Dave Allen
- 8:18Speaker 3: Show on five eighty Lives brought to you probably by
- 8:20Speaker 3: Husband's Pizza. Get the Hustan's Holiday pack a large et
- 8:22Speaker 3: Nich Pepperoni pizza, ten breadsticks, twelve hot wings, and a
- 8:25Speaker 3: two looter bottle of PEPSI only thirty three ninety nine.
- 8:28Speaker 3: You guys do it so Christmas, Caroline, I understand, yep.
- 8:32Speaker 5: I'm at the starting at the Blue Parrot. I'm sorry,
- 8:35Speaker 5: I'm starting at Groove and heading all the way down
- 8:37Speaker 5: Capitol Street with Tito's Tito's Vodka.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Actually, so, I mean this was the employees of the shelter.
- 8:45Speaker 3: You're gonna bring any of the pets with you, let
- 8:46Speaker 3: them do a little howling.
- 8:48Speaker 5: So there will be no pets attending just because they're
- 8:51Speaker 5: not going to be allowed in some of the establs.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Right, yeah, I got it.
- 8:54Speaker 5: There will be there will be shelter staff, there will
- 8:57Speaker 5: be volunteers, there'll be everybody here.
- 8:59Speaker 3: It's gonna be a great time. And again the weather,
- 9:01Speaker 3: it's going to be cool, but it is Christmas. That's
- 9:03Speaker 3: what it's supposed to be. You know, as as you
- 9:05Speaker 3: head out to do a little Christmas Caroly the night,
- 9:08Speaker 3: are you a decent singer.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Hanjie No, But the audience in my car absolutely think well.
- 9:15Speaker 3: And the fact that the event sponsored by Tito's, I mean,
- 9:17Speaker 3: you know, it's just it'll all be good rhythm in
- 9:21Speaker 3: a bottle, as they say, it's going to be a
- 9:22Speaker 3: great great. Now, somebody, if you go to these businesses
- 9:26Speaker 3: downtown tonight and you're out, Carolyn, somebody wants wants I
- 9:29Speaker 3: know you're not doing it for this purpose, but if
- 9:31Speaker 3: somebody wants to make a donation or something like that
- 9:33Speaker 3: to you, I'm sure you're not going to turn it down.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Absolutely. Amanda, who is pretty much in charge of all
- 9:40Speaker 5: of our donations, will be at that event. She has
- 9:43Speaker 5: spoken about tuxes and tails on this show before. She'll
- 9:46Speaker 5: be there and she'll gladly take donations and make sure
- 9:49Speaker 5: they go to the right place.
- 9:50Speaker 3: All right, now, let's get back to adoptions just for
- 9:52Speaker 3: a moment. I did read on your social media that
- 9:55Speaker 3: you've got a law firm that's stepped up to kind
- 9:58Speaker 3: of help out covering the cost of some adoptions.
- 9:59Speaker 5: Right, yes, West Law Firm. They make Christmas magic for us.
- 10:05Speaker 5: Every year they sponsor adult dog at option fees so
- 10:08Speaker 5: that hopefully they can find a home before Christmas. Adult
- 10:12Speaker 5: dogs are six months and older, so anybody six months
- 10:14Speaker 5: and older will be free to adopt until Christmas. Thanks
- 10:17Speaker 5: the West Law Firm.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Big shout out to those folks. Anything else going on
- 10:20Speaker 3: in the next couple of days as we get ready
- 10:22Speaker 3: to head toward the Christmas holiday, you guys out and
- 10:25Speaker 3: about anywhere else over the weekend and get anything else
- 10:27Speaker 3: going on.
- 10:28Speaker 5: So we're actually not going to be out this weekend
- 10:32Speaker 5: for an option event. However, we do desperately need fosters
- 10:36Speaker 5: for some mommy dogs in our care, moms and puppies.
- 10:40Speaker 5: So if that sounds interesting, please come up and see
- 10:42Speaker 5: us to do that.
- 10:43Speaker 3: There you go, There you go, Angie. It's always a
- 10:46Speaker 3: pleasure of you on the show. Now, I'm not going
- 10:47Speaker 3: to be here next Friday, and I'm not sure at
- 10:50Speaker 3: this point whether we're doing a local show next Friday,
- 10:52Speaker 3: I will not be there. So if I'm not here,
- 10:54Speaker 3: more than likely you'll be talking to Dale Cooper next week.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I'm sure he'll take care of you.
- 10:57Speaker 5: Okay, all right, I think that sounds good.
- 10:59Speaker 3: All right, Great Christmas. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot, Angie,
- 11:03Speaker 3: Gilla water Knaw Charleston. You made an association. Guda, as in
- 11:06Speaker 3: the cheese is our adopt me please put of the
- 11:09Speaker 3: week picture posted Dave Island Radio on Facebook and at
- 11:11Speaker 3: Dave A seventy on X and also the WCCHS network
- 11:14Speaker 3: Facebook page. Guda around thirty pounds, about two years old.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Great with other dogs, great with kids. Don't know about
- 11:21Speaker 3: cats yet, but as Angie said, with Guda's behavior shouldn't
- 11:26Speaker 3: be a problem. You never know, but shouldn't be a problem.
- 11:28Speaker 3: She came to the shelter at about two or three
- 11:32Speaker 3: months old, was adopted. And again it doesn't to me
- 11:36Speaker 3: sound like a behavior issue. The people had had her
- 11:39Speaker 3: for a couple of years and then brought her back
- 11:42Speaker 3: for one reason or another. And if it was something
- 11:44Speaker 3: going on in their life, like I said, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 3: they were, they were moving, They're somewhere they could have
- 11:48Speaker 3: pets or whatever, then I applaud them for doing that.
- 11:51Speaker 3: But Guda is very, very confused, very scared in the shelters.
- 11:55Speaker 3: She won't walk on a leash. But Angie says, once
- 11:57Speaker 3: you get her with other dogs, she will be fine.
- 12:00Speaker 3: So you're looking for a great pet this holiday season,
- 12:03Speaker 3: here's your dog, classic West Virginia brown dog with a
- 12:06Speaker 3: little bit of shepherd. Beautiful, beautiful dog. I've got the
- 12:09Speaker 3: picture again, posted Dave alland Radio and Facebook, the WCCHS
- 12:12Speaker 3: network Facebook page and at Dave a seventy on X.
- 12:15Speaker 3: It's Gudah. So go get Guda, all right, dot me

- 15:36Speaker 3: I want to make sure people understand what a great
- 15:38Speaker 3: thing this WIN Academy is and exactly what it is.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Explain it.
- 15:42Speaker 6: So the WIN Academy is an early college high school
- 15:44Speaker 6: at Bridge Valley. So when students are in eleventh or
- 15:47Speaker 6: twelfth grade, they come to Bridge Valley, they go into nursing,
- 15:51Speaker 6: they go into advanced manufacturing technology, and we completely sequence
- 15:55Speaker 6: their coursework so that they're doing something that's consistent with
- 15:58Speaker 6: the major they and currently can graduate with a high
- 16:01Speaker 6: school diploma and an associate's degree and go right into
- 16:04Speaker 6: the workforce if that's what they want, or transfer to
- 16:06Speaker 6: a four year school and only have two years left
- 16:08Speaker 6: to do.
- 16:09Speaker 3: And want to talk a little bit about veterans, because
- 16:12Speaker 3: I know you guys at Bridge Valley always go above
- 16:14Speaker 3: and beyond for our veterans, including an event that you
- 16:16Speaker 3: had I think it was last weekend. Talk about that.
- 16:19Speaker 6: Oh, so we at Bridge Valley love our veterans. We're
- 16:22Speaker 6: really lucky to have such a terrific group. And this
- 16:25Speaker 6: last weekend they participated with lots of other folks at
- 16:29Speaker 6: the John L. K Memorial Cemetery and did the reeps
- 16:32Speaker 6: across America. I don't know if you've ever had the
- 16:34Speaker 6: opportunity to do that, Dave, but you really should get out.
- 16:37Speaker 6: It's a special event where they bring in reaps and
- 16:40Speaker 6: put them on everybody's grave. It's really cool and it's
- 16:44Speaker 6: so fun that we had students being able to do
- 16:46Speaker 6: it right here in West Virginia.
- 16:48Speaker 3: And you've got at Bridge Valley, Doctor Sachs, You've got
- 16:51Speaker 3: a pretty big chunk of of your enrollment that are veterans.
- 16:55Speaker 5: We do.
- 16:55Speaker 6: We love our veterans, We love our veteran families. We
- 16:58Speaker 6: try really hard every year to make sure we get
- 17:01Speaker 6: recognized as a veteran friendly college. It's very important to us.
- 17:04Speaker 6: We have dedicated veterans lounges on both of our campuses.
- 17:08Speaker 6: We have dedicated staff for our veterans students so that
- 17:10Speaker 6: they don't have to negotiate the financial aid process alone.
- 17:13Speaker 6: We're really interested in helping our families be successful. All
- 17:17Speaker 6: of our families be successful, but we're especially dedicated to
- 17:20Speaker 6: our veteran families.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Talking to doctor Casey Sachs Abridge Valley. It's nine twenty
- 17:24Speaker 3: five day Vallance show and five Indiline brought to you
- 17:26Speaker 3: inmpart by the All New Generations Board of Hurricane, your
- 17:28Speaker 3: family and locally owned Ford dealership. Generations prides your customers
- 17:31Speaker 3: with x planned discount pricing on the purchase of select
- 17:34Speaker 3: new Forward vehicles. You pay what Ford suppliers pay. Also,
- 17:37Speaker 3: we're offering zero present financing for qualified buyers on new forards.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Check them out to day just off the Hurricane Exeter
- 17:41Speaker 3: online at generations Forward dot com. One destination for every generation.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Generations Forward see them for all the details. Read an
- 17:50Speaker 3: article doctor sax the other day about Microsoft offering up
- 17:54Speaker 3: some cyber scholarships. Talk theme to talk about that.
- 17:58Speaker 6: A great So Microsoft is interested in getting more people
- 18:01Speaker 6: into cybersecurity. They see that a rising tide lifts all boats.
- 18:05Speaker 6: They really want to get people into the field of cybersecurity.
- 18:08Speaker 6: So even if what you decide you're going to do
- 18:10Speaker 6: is go work at Moses Automotive and help them with
- 18:12Speaker 6: their cybersecurity, Microsoft is committed to getting more people into
- 18:15Speaker 6: the field, and so they've reached out to Bridge Valley
- 18:18Speaker 6: and are doing targeted scholarships and trying really hard to
- 18:21Speaker 6: get students to apply for these Microsoft scholarships so that
- 18:24Speaker 6: you can go to school and study cybersecurity.
- 18:26Speaker 3: And cybersecurity is all the rage right now, doctor Sachs.
- 18:31Speaker 6: I mean, it really is. That paired with AI, there's
- 18:34Speaker 6: a lot going on, and certainly it's a booming field.
- 18:38Speaker 6: So it's one of those areas where you can get
- 18:39Speaker 6: some training in a pretty short amount of time if
- 18:42Speaker 6: you have any inclination towards computers, and find a good
- 18:45Speaker 6: job in any number of fields that everybody from the
- 18:48Speaker 6: state auditor's office to a school, they all need cybersecurity experts.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and I mean there's companies that specialize in that's
- 18:56Speaker 3: what they do is on a contract basis for other
- 18:58Speaker 3: companies as they do cybersecurity. But you're right, I mean,
- 19:01Speaker 3: no matter what the industry is, there there's a cybersecurity
- 19:06Speaker 3: job available somewhere, because we've seen in every industry there
- 19:10Speaker 3: can be issues with cybersecurity, and now that you know
- 19:13Speaker 3: it's getting it's getting more and more prevalent every day.
- 19:16Speaker 6: It's right, that's absolutely right, and it's a field where
- 19:19Speaker 6: I would certainly tell the young people in my life
- 19:22Speaker 6: or people who want to change jobs who are in
- 19:24Speaker 6: my life, if you're inclined to work with computers and
- 19:27Speaker 6: really help protect a whole system, that this is a
- 19:30Speaker 6: great thing to look at.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Indeed, it is kind of going on all of the
- 19:35Speaker 3: things that are making the news these days. You mentioned AI,
- 19:37Speaker 3: We talked about cybersecurity. There's a lot of talk in
- 19:39Speaker 3: West Virginia and other areas too, doctor Sacks about data centers,
- 19:43Speaker 3: and there aren't a lot of and analyts. It can
- 19:46Speaker 3: be a very controversial issue. We're not going to get
- 19:49Speaker 3: into all that, but bottom line is is data centers
- 19:52Speaker 3: are being built in a lot of places around America
- 19:54Speaker 3: and there's you know, and possibly West Virginia as well.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Talk about some of the jobs that come along with
- 20:00Speaker 3: data centers and what Bridge Valley is offering relating to that.
- 20:04Speaker 6: That's such a good question, Dave. Well, there's actually two
- 20:08Speaker 6: areas that we have at Bridge Valley that are terrific
- 20:10Speaker 6: jobs that could support data center operations. One is electrical
- 20:14Speaker 6: engineering and the other is HVAC technician. And so of
- 20:18Speaker 6: course cybersecurity. Of course, it sort of would think of
- 20:21Speaker 6: those when you're thinking about a data center, but the
- 20:24Speaker 6: technology that supports the infrastructure. So if you're building a
- 20:28Speaker 6: big building and you have to keep all of this
- 20:29Speaker 6: stuff running, computers can't run hot, so they really need
- 20:33Speaker 6: advanced age fact technicians. They're going to end up trying
- 20:36Speaker 6: to get all of our really talented HVAC technicians out
- 20:39Speaker 6: of our programs. And it's an area that if you're thinking, gosh,
- 20:42Speaker 6: I like to work with my hands or fix things,
- 20:45Speaker 6: it's a terrific time to study that because there's more
- 20:48Speaker 6: jobs than ever that are starting to emerge in the
- 20:51Speaker 6: market because of these data centers.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Talk with doctor Ksey sachs Bridge Valley Spring classes, Doctor
- 20:56Speaker 3: Sacks are going to start what January the twelfth, I think,
- 20:59Speaker 3: and and well, you know, people would say I need
- 21:05Speaker 3: to go back to school. There's a lot of people
- 21:07Speaker 3: that have said that about it.
- 21:07Speaker 6: You're always welcome.
- 21:09Speaker 3: So there's still time to register though right there is.
- 21:13Speaker 6: You can register all the way until the eighth of January.
- 21:16Speaker 6: I would certainly recommend sooner the better. Then you can
- 21:18Speaker 6: have some planning and go see where your classes are
- 21:21Speaker 6: going to be. But absolutely come to campus. Let's get
- 21:23Speaker 6: you registered for school.
- 21:25Speaker 3: So if I take you up on your offer, and
- 21:27Speaker 3: I come back to classes. What course of study? I
- 21:30Speaker 3: know you're not a guidance counselor, but what course of
- 21:32Speaker 3: study would you suggest for a fifty five year old
- 21:35Speaker 3: disc jockey and radio announcer.
- 21:38Speaker 6: Well, so I would probably start with what kind of
- 21:40Speaker 6: job do you want to do next? And then we could.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Back into well, I don't know. I mean, I'm kind
- 21:45Speaker 3: of I'm kind of enjoying this one. I've done it
- 21:47Speaker 3: for thirty seven years, so I'm kind of enjoying this one.
- 21:49Speaker 3: But I'll let you I'll take an assessment and you
- 21:51Speaker 3: can place me in a program. How's that?
- 21:53Speaker 6: When you're ready for a career team? Do you let
- 21:55Speaker 6: me know?
- 21:55Speaker 3: D Well, you might want to talk to the bosses upstairs.
- 21:58Speaker 3: They might be more ready for me to have a
- 22:00Speaker 3: career change than I am. That's so, that's the way
- 22:01Speaker 3: it works sometimes, Doctor k cy sacks the Bridge Valley.
- 22:04Speaker 3: It's always a pleasure to have you on the show
- 22:06Speaker 3: and remind people where they can check out more of
- 22:08Speaker 3: the things going on at Bridge Valley.
- 22:10Speaker 6: It's all at Bridge Valley dot edu.
- 22:12Speaker 3: All right, you have yourself a great Christmas season. We'll
- 22:15Speaker 3: talk in the new year. Thanks a lot. You all right,
- 22:18Speaker 3: doctor Ksey Sachs of Bridge Valley. If I were going
- 22:21Speaker 3: to at this point in my life, and I've done
- 22:23Speaker 3: a few different things, but I've never even when I
- 22:26Speaker 3: was doing other jobs that was still doing radio on
- 22:28Speaker 3: the side, and so if I were going to go
- 22:30Speaker 3: into something else, Ryan, we need to work on that.
- 22:32Speaker 3: What what can my next career be? We need to
- 22:35Speaker 3: work on that. To think about that. Uh, there was
- 22:39Speaker 3: a text and I didn't really know if it's for
- 22:41Speaker 3: doctor Sachs or not. Talking about cybersecurity for senior citizens,
- 22:44Speaker 3: organizations and communities. That is something that has that's really
- 22:49Speaker 3: been in the news a lot when it comes to
- 22:52Speaker 3: especially scams and things as that. As a matter of fact,
- 22:54Speaker 3: coming up later on on Metro News Midday to Day
- 22:57Speaker 3: among our guest today, Secretary of State Chris Warner is
- 23:00Speaker 3: going to join us and he's gonna spend a little
- 23:01Speaker 3: bit of time talking about things right along those lines.
- 23:06Speaker 3: We're going to talk to a Delegate jb Acres when
- 23:08Speaker 3: we come back after the break, and also Susie Salisbury
- 23:12Speaker 3: from the Charleston Airy Allons is going to stop by.
- 23:14Speaker 3: You know they have been doing this window decorating contest.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I know we took part in it. If you come
- 23:19Speaker 3: by our office here in Studios eleven eleven, Virginia Tredecent, Charleston,
- 23:23Speaker 3: several of our personalities are displayed on the window out there.
- 23:27Speaker 3: I did not get mine out there. For some reason.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Woody Woods is out there. I think Chris Lawrence is
- 23:32Speaker 3: out there. A couple of the sales weasels are out there.
- 23:33Speaker 3: But for some reason, Ryan and I did not make
- 23:36Speaker 3: the cut on the front of the window out there.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Dex says. Dave Trump must have heard you talking about
- 23:41Speaker 3: the Devil's lettuce yesterday he went and executive ordered cannabis
- 23:45Speaker 3: to be rescheduled. It's good that he's speeding up the
- 23:48Speaker 3: process that Biden started in twenty twenty two. Only thing is,
- 23:52Speaker 3: according to the Controlled Substances Act, the DEA has to
- 23:55Speaker 3: reschedule cannabis. Maybe if it gets rescheduled, Shelley Capito will
- 24:00Speaker 3: stop her blockade on the thirty four million dollars in
- 24:03Speaker 3: tax money that West Virginia can use. Yeah. I spent
- 24:05Speaker 3: a lot of time on the pot yesterday, so to speak,
- 24:08Speaker 3: talking about it anyway on Metro News Midday, especially yesterday
- 24:12Speaker 3: and there are just some people in the Republican Party
- 24:15Speaker 3: that aren't very happy with President Trump right now because
- 24:18Speaker 3: of some of the things that he has said about
- 24:20Speaker 3: the reclassification of marijuana and the majority of the text
- 24:24Speaker 3: that we got on Open Line West Virginia yesterday. We're
- 24:26Speaker 3: all about marijuana, either pro or con. And there's many
- 24:31Speaker 3: of us that really don't have an opinion either way
- 24:33Speaker 3: because I don't use it, so it doesn't really affect me,
- 24:35Speaker 3: and I'm kind of like you do you on it?
- 24:38Speaker 3: You know so? But it's a it's a hot button
- 24:41Speaker 3: topic for sure, and always has been. Bigley Piggy Wiggly
- 24:45Speaker 3: Hotline three zero three zero four three four five fifty
- 24:48Speaker 3: eight fifty eight. Tony of the Taylor Text three zero
- 24:50Speaker 3: four nine three five five zero zero Way do you
- 24:52Speaker 3: want to give you a quick programming notes on Wednesday show? Wednesday,
- 24:57Speaker 3: of course is Christmas Eve, so we will be doing
- 24:59Speaker 3: our tradition Jewish Christmas Spectacular. This is the I don't know,
- 25:04Speaker 3: third or fourth year that we've done this something like that.
- 25:07Speaker 3: State Democratic Party Chair of Delegate Mike Pushkin not talking politics.
- 25:10Speaker 3: He'll leave his politics at the door. He changes his
- 25:13Speaker 3: politics for guitar. He'll be in studio with us. He's
- 25:16Speaker 3: bringing in several other musicians, I know the aim of
- 25:18Speaker 3: Steel Band by Man. Tony the Taylor's Band is going
- 25:21Speaker 3: to be in studio as well, and we're just going
- 25:24Speaker 3: to have a Christmas jam session, play a little music,
- 25:26Speaker 3: tell little stories, you know, like we've done in years past.
- 25:30Speaker 3: And I have sent out the invitation to our frequent
- 25:35Speaker 3: guests to the program that want to stop by that
- 25:38Speaker 3: they're more than welcome to. And a big shout out
- 25:40Speaker 3: to Richard Lindsay who is sponsoring the show yet again
- 25:42Speaker 3: this year. So if you're if you're one of my
- 25:45Speaker 3: frequent guests and you like to I just want to
- 25:47Speaker 3: get all these different personalities in one place at Christmas.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I want to get Greg Thomas, and I want to
- 25:53Speaker 3: get Mike Pushkin, and I want to get Eric Tarr
- 25:56Speaker 3: and Kaylee Young, and I want to get him all together,
- 25:59Speaker 3: as we would say growing up in the Free Will
- 26:01Speaker 3: Baptist Church, hugging neck and love somebody. So a man
- 26:05Speaker 3: can wish, can he not? Jewish Christmas Spectacular coming up
- 26:09Speaker 3: at nine oh five on Christmas Eve morning? All right,
- 26:12Speaker 3: we're gonna take a break and Delicate. Jb Acres is
- 26:16Speaker 3: coming up on the Voice of charlest WCCHS.
- 26:19Speaker 7: The Dave Allen Show is presented in part by Generations
- 26:22Speaker 7: Forward in Hurricane part of the Eric J.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Tar family of businesses.
- 26:26Speaker 8: I'm Doug Leach, founder and CEO of Ascension Recovery Services.

- 26:35Speaker 8: about what we do is pretty unique. In Jarrett Construction
- 26:38Speaker 8: fake care. They're really really good people. Good people do
- 26:41Speaker 8: the right thing and they're very skilled. They have all
- 26:43Speaker 8: the qualities that make up just a perfect construction partner,
- 26:46Speaker 8: and they just stilled us a phenomenal building.
- 26:48Speaker 9: Not only time, right on budget.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Come on Cheri's Construction.
- 26:56Speaker 4: THEOK Twelve Days of Christmas are on at Walker Chevrolet

- 28:00Speaker 3: But what I'm missing is a signal coming from my kidneys.
- 28:03Speaker 3: That signal isn't like a ref's whistle.
- 28:05Speaker 10: It's more of a silent SOS, which could be warning
- 28:07Speaker 10: me of an increased risk for events like heart attack
- 28:10Speaker 10: or stroke. And a way I can catch that signal
- 28:12Speaker 10: a simple urine test called UACR. If you have type
- 28:16Speaker 10: two diabetes or high blood pressure, talk to your doctor
- 28:19Speaker 10: about the UACR test detect the SOS. Visit detect thesos

- 30:19Speaker 3: I love it. Are you a Christmas person? Oh my gosh,
- 30:21Speaker 3: I love Christmas? What is it about? I Mean, here's
- 30:23Speaker 3: what I've learned about Christmas. There's three types of people JB.
- 30:26Speaker 3: There's people that love it. There are people that don't
- 30:29Speaker 3: like it so much, and that there are people that
- 30:31Speaker 3: just want to get through it. And that's usually people
- 30:33Speaker 3: in retail or or people in radio or so they
- 30:37Speaker 3: just want to get through it. But you're a lover
- 30:39Speaker 3: of Christmas. I love it.
- 30:41Speaker 11: The main reason why is my wife and I, like
- 30:42Speaker 11: we just can't be luckier. We have three outstanding kids.
- 30:45Speaker 11: So like Christmas Day for us is like a dream,
- 30:48Speaker 11: Like just be in the house with the kids and
- 30:49Speaker 11: like we just like make it relax and chill out,
- 30:51Speaker 11: and you know, we just enjoy spending time with them.
- 30:53Speaker 11: They're all getting older, oldest daughters in college now she
- 30:56Speaker 11: still comes home, Thank goodness, in our twins or seniors
- 30:58Speaker 11: in high school.
- 30:59Speaker 3: But we still have them.
- 31:01Speaker 11: But like we're just trying to enjoy these last you
- 31:03Speaker 11: know kind of Christmases where they're still with us and
- 31:05Speaker 11: our families all together as much as we can, and
- 31:07Speaker 11: of course seeing our parents and all this stuff too.
- 31:09Speaker 3: But I and I love the season like that, you know.
- 31:11Speaker 11: Again, not to get you know, too deep into it,
- 31:13Speaker 11: but like the whole reason for Christmas. You know, I
- 31:16Speaker 11: love going to church during the Christmas season, and I
- 31:18Speaker 11: just you know, a lot of people just seem really
- 31:21Speaker 11: happy this.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Time of year.
- 31:23Speaker 11: You know, we drove in the Christmas prey, My wife
- 31:25Speaker 11: and I drove our youngest daughter's high school soccer team
- 31:27Speaker 11: and the Christmas prey last week in Charleston, and like
- 31:30Speaker 11: you know, you're just driving, people were waving at you
- 31:32Speaker 11: and yellow Merry Christmas, and they're smiling, and like, I
- 31:35Speaker 11: just I like to see people happy. I mean, I'm
- 31:36Speaker 11: a people person us, you know, the main reason I
- 31:39Speaker 11: got involved in politics is actually enjoy being around people.
- 31:42Speaker 11: I like to talk to people. I like to try
- 31:43Speaker 11: to help them if I can. And you know, a
- 31:46Speaker 11: lot of folks are just happy this time here. Like
- 31:48Speaker 11: I love seeing some mad say Mery Christmas.
- 31:49Speaker 3: They say it back. I just I love it. Talking
- 31:52Speaker 3: again with Delegate to jam Bakers, we do want to
- 31:55Speaker 3: dive into the political realm here for a moment. The
- 31:57Speaker 3: agenda that was announced last week by House Speaker Roger
- 31:59Speaker 3: Hands shyall big oni, big on business, big on commerce,
- 32:03Speaker 3: not so much on on social issues. That's something that
- 32:06Speaker 3: Delegate Speaker A. Hanshaw said last week.
- 32:09Speaker 11: Your thoughts, Yeah, so this is actually something that on
- 32:11Speaker 11: the House Republican side, we had been working on this
- 32:14Speaker 11: for several months. We had in the leadership team, you know,
- 32:18Speaker 11: led by Speaker Hanshaw, who does a great job. He
- 32:21Speaker 11: had asked members and he had tasked members of his
- 32:23Speaker 11: leadership team to ask members of the House Republican Caucus
- 32:27Speaker 11: to give priorities. And those priorities could have been whatever
- 32:29Speaker 11: people said.
- 32:29Speaker 3: It could have been.
- 32:30Speaker 11: You know, it could have been taxes, could have been jobs, schools, roads,
- 32:33Speaker 11: you know, it could have been whatever they wanted to say.
- 32:35Speaker 11: It could have been social issues. You know, there was
- 32:37Speaker 11: no limit what you could prioritize. And when our member
- 32:41Speaker 11: survey came back overwhelmingly the Republican Caucus in the House
- 32:44Speaker 11: said we want to focus on jobs and economic issues.
- 32:47Speaker 11: And so the Speaker took that and he said, well,
- 32:50Speaker 11: that's what we're going to emphasize in this press conference
- 32:53Speaker 11: is what our members said they wanted based upon what
- 32:55Speaker 11: our constituents tell us. I mean, our job is to
- 32:57Speaker 11: represent the people who vot us office. So this is
- 33:01Speaker 11: a reflection I think of what our voters want. We're
- 33:04Speaker 11: doing this as representatives of the people who put us
- 33:06Speaker 11: in office. And then the speaker came out and I
- 33:08Speaker 11: think did a fantastic job at that press conference, surrounded
- 33:11Speaker 11: by you know, a huge number of the Republicans in
- 33:14Speaker 11: the House. Where they're with him during that presentation is
- 33:16Speaker 11: a sign of support. And those are things he emphasized.
- 33:20Speaker 11: And you know, I've got a whole list of things
- 33:22Speaker 11: here that he talked about we can touch him on.
- 33:24Speaker 11: But you know, just generally speaking, I don't have time
- 33:26Speaker 11: to getting all the details I wish I did.
- 33:27Speaker 3: I wish you.
- 33:28Speaker 11: I always say I wish you had a long form
- 33:29Speaker 11: podcast and we could talk for sure three hours.
- 33:31Speaker 3: But you know it's it's a dumb talk line thing
- 33:34Speaker 3: that gets in the way. If we could just get
- 33:36Speaker 3: rid of rid of Wilson the meadows, we'd be all right.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Just locked the door and don't let him in. Well
- 33:39Speaker 3: one of them's in Morgan, Hey, real quick, I do
- 33:42Speaker 3: want to get in a winner. I want to say
- 33:43Speaker 3: Congratulations Jeff Fleck of Charleston. He was our winner of
- 33:46Speaker 3: the WVU tickets for that Monday night game at the
- 33:49Speaker 3: Kyle cum So he's not only going to get four tickets,
- 33:51Speaker 3: but he's also going to get to the Little Clark
- 33:54Speaker 3: little party zone that they have there and parking passes
- 33:56Speaker 3: as well. So Jeff, congratulations, appreciate you listening and and
- 34:00Speaker 3: appreciate Pinnacle Consultants for hooking us up with those tickets.
- 34:02Speaker 3: All right, let's go over some of those things that
- 34:04Speaker 3: you want to talk about. Merry Christmas.
- 34:05Speaker 11: Jeff leg a job buddy, so that their overall emphasis,
- 34:09Speaker 11: Dave and everybody listening is there's like three main or
- 34:12Speaker 11: three legs of the school school or stool. Basically, it's
- 34:14Speaker 11: workforce ready education initiatives, it's a job creation or job
- 34:19Speaker 11: creating business climate initiatives. And then the third the third
- 34:21Speaker 11: leg of the stool is just kind of broadly, it's
- 34:24Speaker 11: responsible economic growth is what we're calling it. So some
- 34:27Speaker 11: of those things I wish I could talk about them all,
- 34:29Speaker 11: but one thing we're going to do is we're going
- 34:31Speaker 11: to you know, really emphasize what we call upscilling, which
- 34:34Speaker 11: is we will incentivize companies that are existing, you that
- 34:37Speaker 11: exist in West Virginia now to provide more on the
- 34:41Speaker 11: job training for their employees. Continuing education for employees, give
- 34:45Speaker 11: people a chance to advance within their own company and
- 34:48Speaker 11: you know, keep them here in West Virginia with better
- 34:51Speaker 11: economic opportunities for themselves and their families. And then also
- 34:54Speaker 11: with the advance within the company that creates you know,
- 34:56Speaker 11: whatever their prior position was, that creates an opening for
- 34:59Speaker 11: somebody else. And this is part of what we're also doing, Dave,
- 35:02Speaker 11: is you know, we work really hard to try to
- 35:04Speaker 11: attract new businesses to the state of West Virginia, and
- 35:06Speaker 11: that's something I spent a lot of time on personally,
- 35:08Speaker 11: but we also want to make sure the businesses that
- 35:11Speaker 11: are here that have been fighting, you know, side by
- 35:13Speaker 11: side with us, you know, to make things work and
- 35:15Speaker 11: have you have been dedicated to this state sometimes for
- 35:18Speaker 11: decades or maybe even one hundred years or more, that
- 35:20Speaker 11: we're also going to make sure that they're taken care
- 35:22Speaker 11: of as well. So this upscaling is part of that.
- 35:24Speaker 11: We're going to provide incentives for better training for existing
- 35:26Speaker 11: employees in the state. We're also going to do things
- 35:30Speaker 11: like try try to provide opportunities for people who are
- 35:34Speaker 11: still in high school to go ahead and get on
- 35:35Speaker 11: a job track. Doctor Casey Sachs is one of your
- 35:38Speaker 11: guests a little while ago, and let me tell you
- 35:39Speaker 11: she does a fantastic at the top a Bridge Valley.
- 35:42Speaker 11: That school has just propelled forward under her leadership in
- 35:45Speaker 11: the past couple of years. She's she's a superstar.
- 35:48Speaker 3: I mean to the point I'll give a big to
- 35:50Speaker 3: your point there. She didn't like to talk about it
- 35:53Speaker 3: that much, but other institutions similar to hers out of
- 35:55Speaker 3: state are coming in and looking at what Bridge Valley
- 35:58Speaker 3: is doing, especially with that Win Academy. She has done
- 36:00Speaker 3: a phenomenal job.
- 36:01Speaker 11: And one of the things she does with one academy
- 36:03Speaker 11: is she puts those kids on a path to you know,
- 36:06Speaker 11: graduate and be workforce ready as soon as they finish
- 36:09Speaker 11: high school or being more advanced than their four year career.
- 36:11Speaker 11: What she talked about with you, and that's one of
- 36:13Speaker 11: the things we want to emphasize as well. It's I'm
- 36:15Speaker 11: not going to say it's based upon her model, but
- 36:16Speaker 11: it's very similar to give these kids the opportunity to
- 36:19Speaker 11: go ahead and get work ready while they're still in
- 36:21Speaker 11: high school. Uh, So we're going to emphasize that as well.
- 36:23Speaker 11: We have some other things on here, Dave. We're going
- 36:25Speaker 11: to allow, you know, try to increase our energy.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Capacity in the state. It's a big issue right now.
- 36:31Speaker 11: You talked about data centers with doctor Sachs a little
- 36:34Speaker 11: while ago, you know, regardless of that issue, which I
- 36:36Speaker 11: wish I could talk more about data centers individually, but
- 36:39Speaker 11: we absolutely need more energy in the state for a
- 36:42Speaker 11: lot of different reasons. One of those to provide you
- 36:44Speaker 11: more capacity and which will it will help our rate payers,
- 36:47Speaker 11: the people who live here.
- 36:48Speaker 3: So we're going to do some things emphasize that.
- 36:51Speaker 11: We're going to do some stuff like we're going to
- 36:53Speaker 11: try to push a statewide construction sales tax credit for homebuilders.
- 36:58Speaker 11: We have you know, so there's a shortage of housing
- 37:02Speaker 11: in West Virginia, but it's really nationwide problem, but it
- 37:04Speaker 11: certainly exists here. So we're gonna try to do some
- 37:07Speaker 11: things and make housing more affordable on the front end,
- 37:10Speaker 11: to create more housing stock, which will hopefully draw more
- 37:13Speaker 11: folks in or just create better housing opportunities for people
- 37:15Speaker 11: who live here. And then we're also going to do
- 37:18Speaker 11: some things to try to emphasize we're incentivize more capital
- 37:23Speaker 11: for small businesses in the state of West Virginia. Again,
- 37:25Speaker 11: some of this will be large business focused, but we're
- 37:27Speaker 11: doing a heck of a lot of stuff to also
- 37:29Speaker 11: focus on small businesses.
- 37:30Speaker 3: In West Virginia as well.
- 37:32Speaker 11: And then another thing the speaker talked about is a
- 37:34Speaker 11: teacher pay raise, teacher in school personnel that was part
- 37:38Speaker 11: of his agenda or our agenda that he announced on
- 37:40Speaker 11: our behalf. That is the most expensive part of this
- 37:44Speaker 11: a lot of what we're talking about. The best thing
- 37:45Speaker 11: about it, Dave, is some of these things won't cost anything.
- 37:48Speaker 11: Some are very low cost. The teacher in school service
- 37:51Speaker 11: personnel race. If that gets through, that'll be you. That's
- 37:54Speaker 11: an expensive thing, but I think worth it. I support it.
- 37:57Speaker 11: So and then I think the governor actually came out
- 38:00Speaker 11: last week and said he supports a pay raise for
- 38:03Speaker 11: state employees across the board, So we'll see how that goes.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Was that would that be something that you'd be in
- 38:06Speaker 3: support of or I will?
- 38:08Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean I think that we you know, you
- 38:10Speaker 11: got to be economically responsible and financially responsible, but the
- 38:12Speaker 11: numbers work.
- 38:13Speaker 3: I supported, Our state employees deserve it, and this again,
- 38:16Speaker 3: we're talking with delicate jb Acres about their legislative agenda
- 38:20Speaker 3: going forward to Speaker Hanshaw talked about, you know, with
- 38:22Speaker 3: the with these surveys that came out from the legislators.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Now this is the house we're talking about. Haven't heard
- 38:28Speaker 3: anything out of the Senate on whether they're going to
- 38:31Speaker 3: grow along with this. How confident are you that, jb
- 38:35Speaker 3: that that these things can be accomplished.
- 38:37Speaker 11: Have a high level of confidence. And that doesn't mean
- 38:39Speaker 11: every single one of these will get passed. Obviously, we've
- 38:42Speaker 11: got a lot of stuff on our agenda here, but
- 38:44Speaker 11: I'm very confident that we will have a jobs and
- 38:47Speaker 11: economic first agenda that gets through. Is the primary thing
- 38:50Speaker 11: that we accomplished this next session. I'll say this too quickly.
- 38:53Speaker 11: You said that there was no emphasis on social issues,
- 38:56Speaker 11: and there certainly wasn't in that press conference that the
- 38:58Speaker 11: Speaker gave. But there will be some of those bills
- 39:01Speaker 11: this year. And I will say, respectfully, there are a
- 39:03Speaker 11: lot of voters in West Virginia who do.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Care about those issues. Dave.
- 39:06Speaker 11: I mean, that's not the main thing that I campaign on.
- 39:08Speaker 11: I'm always a jobs and an economy first guy. You've
- 39:11Speaker 11: had me on before, I think you would agree. That's
- 39:13Speaker 11: why I always emphasize personally. But I'm not going to
- 39:16Speaker 11: tell someone that something that individually matters.
- 39:18Speaker 3: To them doesn't matter at all, we shouldn't address it.
- 39:21Speaker 11: So you'll see some of those bills, I'm sure day,
- 39:23Speaker 11: but the primary focus, at least in the House side
- 39:25Speaker 11: will be this economic agenda. Affordability will be part of
- 39:29Speaker 11: what we look at. Also, that's a huge issue across
- 39:31Speaker 11: the country right now, and I think the Senate will
- 39:33Speaker 11: get on board, or at least I'm hopeful that they
- 39:35Speaker 11: will with this.
- 39:36Speaker 3: We had a text here for you said, why a
- 39:37Speaker 3: tax credit if we plan to remove income tax?
- 39:40Speaker 11: Well, it's a tax credit on building construction materials. Is
- 39:43Speaker 11: how that one will work? If that's what the caller is, right?
- 39:45Speaker 11: I think I think that's what they say. So that
- 39:47Speaker 11: one to the caller that is, you know, we want
- 39:50Speaker 11: to make the construction and building materials more affordable. And
- 39:53Speaker 11: I'll tell you if you don't know this, a lot
- 39:54Speaker 11: of people probably do. That's been one of the main
- 39:57Speaker 11: drivers of the increase in housing costs is just the
- 39:59Speaker 11: cost of the materials that use to build a house.
- 40:02Speaker 11: So we're trying to make that more affordable and not
- 40:04Speaker 11: tax people on the materials you actually have to use
- 40:06Speaker 11: to build your residents, which will hopefully make the housing
- 40:09Speaker 11: more affordable.
- 40:10Speaker 3: So that's what that's from. It's been a week Delegate
- 40:13Speaker 3: where people are announcing what they're doing. In twenty twenty six,
- 40:17Speaker 3: three straight days of people coming on the show announcer
- 40:19Speaker 3: that they're running for office. I had two Democrats and
- 40:22Speaker 3: one Republican, two for state Senate, one running for a House.
- 40:27Speaker 3: It's a future look like for JBA.
- 40:28Speaker 11: Well today came on mainly to talk about what we're
- 40:30Speaker 11: going to do this next session. But I'm all in.
- 40:32Speaker 11: I'm going to run again. I've already filed pre candidacy,
- 40:34Speaker 11: and man, I love doing this. I mean social media,
- 40:37Speaker 11: We've said this before, that can be kind of a
- 40:39Speaker 11: hard thing to deal with sometimes, but face to face
- 40:41Speaker 11: conversations with constituents and voters or just people in general,
- 40:44Speaker 11: like I like to try to make things better for
- 40:46Speaker 11: the entire state. I mean, my primary focus is on
- 40:48Speaker 11: my district, but I love to do things that just
- 40:51Speaker 11: improve the quality of life from West Virginia. And you know,
- 40:54Speaker 11: my family has been extremely fortunate. I like to see
- 40:56Speaker 11: other people succeed as well. So I'm back in. I'm
- 40:59Speaker 11: going to run again. I will be honored and privileged
- 41:01Speaker 11: if the people in my district will vote for me
- 41:03Speaker 11: again and put me back in office to keep.
- 41:04Speaker 3: Working for him.
- 41:06Speaker 11: So that's I'm definitely gonna be on ballid again this
- 41:09Speaker 11: spring day.
- 41:10Speaker 3: All right, Dell A good jb Acres. I appreciate you
- 41:13Speaker 3: being here as always, my friend.

- 45:31Speaker 16: I took advantage of your invitation to come back when
- 45:34Speaker 16: we were talking about the Holiday Window conic.
- 45:35Speaker 3: All right, we'll announced who we got here already.
- 45:38Speaker 16: So this morning we are very very happy to announce
- 45:41Speaker 16: that we have all of our winners for the Holiday
- 45:45Speaker 16: Window Contest, but on by the Charleston Area Alliance and
- 45:48Speaker 16: sponsored by AEP and with us today in the studio
- 45:52Speaker 16: is our Best in Show winner, and that's the Children's
- 45:55Speaker 16: Theater of Turkleston. And so I have Meghan Deal here
- 45:58Speaker 16: and she's got a couple of students with her as well.
- 46:01Speaker 16: They were our Best and Show. That's the award where
- 46:04Speaker 16: we actually have judges go out and select what they
- 46:08Speaker 16: think is the best window of all of them. But
- 46:10Speaker 16: we also have five People's Choice awards, and I'll just
- 46:13Speaker 16: go through those and I'll turn it over to the
- 46:15Speaker 16: to Maga.
- 46:16Speaker 3: I don't really even need to be here for this,
- 46:17Speaker 3: so I'm gonna just turn it over to you and

- 46:21Speaker 3: get a couple of coffee, Go ahead, suits.
- 46:23Speaker 16: All right, the Downtown winner, and again this is people's choice.
- 46:27Speaker 16: This is we had an actual voting system where you
- 46:30Speaker 16: can go in and pick in each one of the
- 46:32Speaker 16: five districts, which which is your favorite window, venom and velvet.
- 46:36Speaker 16: It's there. This is their first year participating there. On
- 46:39Speaker 16: Choyer Street, that's our downtown people's choice. The east end
- 46:43Speaker 16: is the office of the West Virginia Secretary of State.
- 46:45Speaker 16: They did a beautiful display. As you enter the Secretary
- 46:50Speaker 16: of State's office. In Kanaul City, it's Tim Hogan's Design Gallery.
- 46:54Speaker 16: South Hills is Charlie Boutique, and on the west side
- 46:58Speaker 16: it's Capital Business Into. So again, these are the folks
- 47:01Speaker 16: in the community selected who would win those awards. But
- 47:06Speaker 16: I'd like to have Megan talk a little bit about
- 47:08Speaker 16: the Children's Theater Best in Show because it was just
- 47:12Speaker 16: it was a fabulous display created by kids, done my kids,
- 47:16Speaker 16: and ties into the show that they're hosting this weekend
- 47:19Speaker 16: at the Clay Cup.
- 47:20Speaker 9: Right, thank you, Sezy. We're super excited.
- 47:22Speaker 7: So that window display was depicting up the Grinch, which
- 47:26Speaker 7: is our show this weekend at the Clay Center. And
- 47:28Speaker 7: it was actually a free hand drawn by Gabriel Rashid,
- 47:32Speaker 7: who is one of our amazing kids in the Children's Theater.
- 47:36Speaker 7: He's a student at Charleston Catholic High School. And then
- 47:39Speaker 7: some of the other teens came in and helped color
- 47:41Speaker 7: in and it was really a team effort. It was
- 47:43Speaker 7: done by the teens and some of some of the adults.
- 47:45Speaker 7: We always try to comment and rally and help them out.
- 47:47Speaker 7: But you know, we're so excited. Were new Keno City residents.
- 47:51Speaker 7: We've only been there a few months when we bought
- 47:53Speaker 7: our brand new, beautiful building.
- 47:55Speaker 9: So yeah, very excited.
- 47:56Speaker 3: All right, you talk about who you've got here with.
- 47:58Speaker 7: So I brought with me today two very special young ladies,
- 48:02Speaker 7: Malia Sar and Emma Grace Hutchinson, and they are graduates
- 48:07Speaker 7: of George Washington High School and they have both went
- 48:10Speaker 7: off to college and they came back during the Christmas
- 48:13Speaker 7: break to help us with our show. Malia, do you
- 48:15Speaker 7: want to say where you are and what you're doing now?
- 48:18Speaker 2: So?
- 48:18Speaker 11: I am currently at Ohio University studying acting and I
- 48:21Speaker 11: really have children's theaters.
- 48:22Speaker 9: Think for that.
- 48:23Speaker 11: They sparked my passion and let me know that if
- 48:27Speaker 11: I have a passion, I can follow it to the.
- 48:28Speaker 9: End, right and immigrat I'm.
- 48:31Speaker 5: At University of Charleston studying Elementary and Special Education.
- 48:35Speaker 3: CGFC has been a huge part of my life. They
- 48:38Speaker 3: really have to thank them for everything. That's awesome. That's awesome.
- 48:42Speaker 7: So they're helping us backstage this weekend at our show
- 48:44Speaker 7: with the branch of which I'm gonna have to say again,
- 48:46Speaker 7: we are having The Grinch all weekend. Three public shows tonight,
- 48:50Speaker 7: two shows tomorrow, two and seven, and the tickets.
- 48:52Speaker 9: So this is going to be a record breaking show.
- 48:55Speaker 7: And we have had to open the second balcony, so
- 48:58Speaker 7: it's super exciting.
- 48:59Speaker 3: That's good stuff. It's good stuff. I appreciate you, you
- 49:01Speaker 3: ladies for being here now. University of Charleston and Ohio
- 49:04Speaker 3: University being a Marshall person, you know, I'm going to
- 49:06Speaker 3: give you a little bit of junk about. Ohio University
- 49:10Speaker 3: is the alma mater of my co host in the afternoon,
- 49:11Speaker 3: Amanda Baron, so hopefully we can get you in a
- 49:13Speaker 3: better school. I'm kidding, I'm kiddy. So I want to
- 49:19Speaker 3: go back to you here just for a moment. I
- 49:20Speaker 3: want to talk about this the window decorating contest, and Megan,
- 49:23Speaker 3: I'm going to close out with you with another little
- 49:25Speaker 3: spot for the for the for the production, talk about
- 49:28Speaker 3: the overall participation this year in the window decorating content.
- 49:31Speaker 16: We had thirty businesses, businesses slash organizations that registered, and
- 49:37Speaker 16: I'm happy to see that Metro News here was a
- 49:41Speaker 16: participant as well. It's a lot of fun. And I
- 49:45Speaker 16: think how like I mentioned last week, is you know,
- 49:48Speaker 16: this is just a real team building effort. You're mean,
- 49:51Speaker 16: Meghan mentioned that, but a lot of businesses use it
- 49:54Speaker 16: as a team building effort as well of their staff
- 49:56Speaker 16: and their employees. And it's a way to you know,
- 50:00Speaker 16: really participate in. You know, what's become Charleston the Christmas town.
- 50:06Speaker 16: Many of the businesses are going to decorate anyway, so
- 50:09Speaker 16: why not sign up and become part of the competition.
- 50:12Speaker 3: And look, Charleston has become like the Christmas City. I
- 50:16Speaker 3: mean it's there's always been a buy in from the
- 50:18Speaker 3: businesses and the individuals. But now if you look at
- 50:20Speaker 3: what's going on over at the Selango Lall Light, the
- 50:23Speaker 3: night over at Go Mark Ballpark, what's going on Holly
- 50:26Speaker 3: Jolly Brawley, and all of these other you mentioned things,
- 50:28Speaker 3: that Clay Center, all these it's excuse me, Capital Market
- 50:33Speaker 3: as well. It's become Charleston is like the Christmas City now.
- 50:36Speaker 16: And as far as entertainment, you know, last weekend was
- 50:38Speaker 16: the Nutcracker Charleston Ballet and the Symphony. Now this weekend
- 50:42Speaker 16: we have the Children's Theater, so there's just always something
- 50:45Speaker 16: going on.
- 50:46Speaker 3: All good stuff. All right, give me another commercial here
- 50:48Speaker 3: for you for your production.
- 50:49Speaker 9: Yea, The Grinch is going on at the Clay Center
- 50:52Speaker 9: with the Children's Theater. Charleston.
- 50:53Speaker 7: Super excited. We have some of the Symphony coming and
- 50:56Speaker 7: doing the live music. It's amazing. It's going to be
- 50:57Speaker 7: an incredible show. We've had three we're working on our
- 51:01Speaker 7: third school show right now. They're actually doing it over
- 51:03Speaker 7: at the Clay Center seven o'clock tonight too and seven
- 51:05Speaker 7: tomorrow Saturday.
- 51:06Speaker 9: Again. You can still get tickets, but they.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Are going quick, get them, get them quickly, hacked house
- 51:11Speaker 3: because they are. They're going quickly. You've even had to
- 51:13Speaker 3: open up, like you said, a second level, right.
- 51:15Speaker 9: Yeah, and it's so and it's a show for kids.
- 51:17Speaker 7: It's only about an hour and a half long run,
- 51:19Speaker 7: about ninety minutes, so you don't have to worry about
- 51:21Speaker 7: them coming in for a two and a half three
- 51:23Speaker 7: hour show. We're gonna have a fun different merchandise in
- 51:26Speaker 7: the lobby, a lot of little photo ops. So yeah,
- 51:29Speaker 7: come on down one more Christmas function before the crazy
- 51:33Speaker 7: week next week.
- 51:34Speaker 3: Susy appreciate you being here. Thanks you so much, and
- 51:36Speaker 3: Megan always pleasure to you and you girls. I'm sorry
- 51:39Speaker 3: what I said about Ohio University. I'm a Marshall guy.
- 51:42Speaker 3: You know, we got to do that sort of thing.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Thank you. Thank you girls as well. I know you
- 51:44Speaker 3: guys are gonna do great things in your career. Thanks
- 51:46Speaker 3: a lot. All right, we are gonna head out of here.
- 51:49Speaker 3: I was going to say we're taking a break, but
- 51:50Speaker 3: we're pretty much out of time. Coming up later today
- 51:52Speaker 3: Metro News, mid Day thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor
