- 0:10What does the nanny do? OK, so we're done.
- 0:13Goodbye. You.
- 0:16Shut it off. Do not twist my words.
- 0:19Do not make me a victim, sweetie.
- 0:21Just look at the mountain. That's what you saw that day.
- 0:25Just the knife in the kidneys over all these years and the
- 0:29sacrifices that I made to love
- 0:48I'm going to let you in on a little secret.
- 0:51Robyn's Secret Season 6 Episode 6 A Tale is old as time song is
- 0:59old as rhyme. Robyn's secret episode.
- 1:05It's Robyn's secret, everyone.
- 1:08waiting for, where we get a lovely speech from Robyn in the
- 1:11family room at church. We're about to get a lesson in
- 1:15internalized misogyny. Absolutely.
- 1:21Ordinarily we don't talk about
- 1:24because it's just summarizing shit we've already talked too
- 1:26much about. But in this episode, I thought
- 1:29it was worth pointing out because there's new footage that
- 1:32we haven't seen before, which is
- 1:35adults talk about needing to figure out their new
- 1:38relationships again now that they're at the Brown family
- 1:41cul-de-sac. They're teeing up that now that
- 1:44they're in the homes, they're in
- 1:47And the second part of the coming up on was another
- 1:50reminder about Meri's baby decision, which we have avoided
- 1:54for a little while, thank God,
- 1:58That story's back. It's rear in its ugly head
- 2:00again. It absolutely is.
- 2:01So when the episode opens, there's this exterior shot of
- 2:04the cul-de-sac in the different homes and the music that's
- 2:08playing is so modern for this show.
- 2:12It's the first episode where there's this music playing and
- 2:14it's like Doo, Doo, Doo, Doo, Doo, Doo, Doo Doo.
- 2:17It's the lame version of what reality shows will be playing
- 2:20today instead of the all music
- 2:23the show. That's very kind of, oh, in the
- 2:27lower bottom of the free music
- 2:31where they maybe started paying for a royalty or something Like
- 2:34it's, it's a whole new vibe, which is exciting because now
- 2:39we're at the Brown family cul-de-sac.
- 2:42First thing first, we're going
- 2:47This comes out of nowhere. We've been in the houses.
- 2:51Just a little hot minute here and got to bury a time capsule.
- 2:55They just always have to decide to do weird shit.
- 2:58Have you ever buried a time capsule in your own yard?
- 3:02No. I feel like this is something
- 3:03that you do in like elementary
- 3:08have to do with like an entire
- 3:13what? Why are we doing this?
- 3:15Yeah, it did come out of nowhere.
- 3:17We're going to be burying a time
- 3:20cool. Yeah, you couldn't even fucking
- 3:24finish your family mission statement yet and now you're
- 3:26going to bury a time capsule, OK.
- 3:29It totally makes sense. We go to the adults on the couch
- 3:39they start referencing what it felt like living in the separate
- 3:48And Robyn makes a weird comment, though that is something new.
- 3:54She says it will be eye opening about the damage done over the
- 4:01opportunity to prepare their relationships.
- 4:02Like OK, I guess that's true, but the use of damage done seems
- 4:11I guess there's already a bunch of damage.
- 4:13I mean, they have been talking about it.
- 4:14It's just such a dramatic way to put it.
- 4:16It is. And it's just odd to be like,
- 4:18oh, Yep, we're going to build a time capsule because now we're
- 4:25done. And oh, maybe this time capsule
- 4:27is something that will bring us together again.
- 4:29But we haven't even finished our family missions, David.
- 4:32They try all these weird band aids all the time to get people
- 4:36together and to fix things and. And not only is this time
- 4:40capsule going to be buried by the Brown family this week, but
- 4:43this week is also going to be their first Sunday service at
- 4:47the new homes. So when they start this episode,
- 4:54OK, sounds good. All of which does not address
- 4:58Robyn's secret that we're aware of at this point.
- 5:01But don't worry, we're getting there pretty quick.
- 5:03Yeah, back to our weird shenanigans.
- 5:05Just, you know, trying to do things to bring the family
- 5:08together. Weird activities.
- 5:09So when we start in on the action for this episode, we're
- 5:18was challenging. We get a outside clip of
- 5:22everybody walking over to Meri's house.
- 5:24Kody has this whole spiel about putting their phones away.
- 5:29No phones in church. Everybody put your phones away.
- 5:32Put social media down.
- 5:34The pulpit is in front of Meri's
- 5:41Just have to point that out. While everyone is gathering in
- 5:46Meri's family room, Kody has a
- 5:49how when they moved to Las Vegas, he was under the
- 5:52impression that people from their faith would be visiting on
- 5:57a monthly basis, or at least driving through town on their
- 5:59way somewhere else. And they'd stop over and they
- 6:01would be able to have their community gathering of fellow
- 6:03believers in the cult on a monthly basis.
- 6:07And I'm going what? Who thinks that you're going to
- 6:10be able to have church on a monthly basis because people are
- 6:13just going to periodically visit?
- 6:14Consistent really enough where
- 6:16monthly services with visitors.
- 6:18It's like, did you ever do anything about that?
- 6:20Like, do you ever call anyone other than the weird people you
- 6:22had on the show that we met? Yeah, he thought that they would
- 6:29Facebook? Please come to the church at my
- 6:32home once a month. Like, I don't know what he was
- 6:39Yes. And he talks about the Hebrews
- 6:50they've been away from it for so long.
- 6:53And when you're away from your community, you do start to lose
- 6:58the belief system of of course, he has to compare his family to
- 7:03the Hebrews and the Bible and. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 7:06No reference to Joseph Smith or Hiram Smith or whoever the hell
- 7:10the other one was that we were supposed to talk about during
- 7:13that episode. He just.
- 7:14Picks and chooses weird parts of the Bible to compare his family
- 7:17to. Those cool guys from the Old
- 7:19Testament is coming. Right.
- 7:20They show him starting this church service standing in front
- 7:27interrupt with the couch moment where he's talking about how he
- 7:30needs to be more exciting because the kids are bored.
- 7:33Church is boring for children in general.
- 7:36And so, you know, whatever. Then I go back to Meri's family
- 7:39room and Christine is talking about something.
- 7:41And I felt like we were going to get something, but we really
- 7:44didn't. They just showed her talking for
- 7:48Be can we get nothing? Or something.
- 7:50And then it fades out. And then there's more voiceover
- 7:52where Kody says I asked Robyn to
- 7:56and about sexual purity. And it's like, so why didn't you
- 7:59just show us like 3 seconds of
- 8:02It was so weird. I guess it was to demonstrate
- 8:04that all the wives get up and talk in front of the family.
- 8:06Well, we get voice over of Christine saying that Kody asks
- 8:11each of the wives to participate
- 8:15and come and speak their truths about things.
- 8:19So they show Christine standing up there and talking about, I
- 8:23think she's talking about technology and unplugging from
- 8:26technology because she's holding
- 8:30And so she's talking about unplugging, I think because Kody
- 8:33starts out all this by saying like, put your phones away, no
- 8:35phones in church, blah, blah, blah.
- 8:38But then that's kind of all we
- 8:39And I'm just assuming that that's what her spiel was about
- 8:42because they don't let us in on it.
- 8:45And then here come the big guns.
- 8:48We're bringing in Robyn to talk about chastity.
- 8:51The big guns. I'm going to talk about the
- 8:55biggest mistake of my life, and I'm actually pretty nervous
- 8:58about it. Oh, Robyn in the biggest mistake
- 9:05So I can understand how she would be so nervous to talk
- 9:07about. She's falsely tearing up doing
- 9:14There's several fake tears in this episode for sure.
- 9:17And so then we show Robyn standing in front of Meri's
- 9:20crooked fireplace mantle wearing her Sunday school teacher best
- 9:27A black sweater over another black shirt, potentially.
- 9:32I did see, like, I don't know, above her boobies, like just
- 9:36below her neck. So I thought that was a that was
- 9:42and yellow flower skirt. Yeah, hydrangeas.
- 9:45Oh, hydrangeas. Yes, I love the hydrangeas.
- 9:49Yes. She's holding something in her
- 9:57because she's cupping it in front of her as if she's about
- 10:02Oh, but she does offer something to someone.
- 10:04In this moment, looking at her in her hydrangeas skirt get up
- 10:19remind you all that when we first met Robyn, she was wearing
- 10:30for teenagers trying to look super young, super hip, super
- 10:34young and hot. And just in with the no, in with
- 10:42wearing like a white nighty negligee tank top over long
- 10:46sleeves. And obviously when you go to
- 10:50church you dress nicer, but then you look around the room and
- 10:54literally nobody else is dressed up.
- 10:56Yeah, everyone else, Kody is. Kody is, but none of the kids
- 11:01are dressed nice. A lot of the other adults aren't
- 11:10right now. Like she's standing up there in
- 11:12this outfit that she probably had to borrow from Meri.
- 11:16Like, it's just so bizarre. And we're seeing her play roles,
- 11:29preteen teen clothing at the time of this.
- 11:32And now she's trying to teach purity.
- 11:34So she's got to dress this way. It's like she's just, so she's
- 11:41We went from the juniors to the senior section, as in the senior
- 11:46Seriously. Pretty quick for Robyn Sermon.
- 11:54happened to them and what they did with their purity.
- 11:58And she wants us to know that these are true stories.
- 12:02Now, what's funny is after we get through these people's
- 12:06stories of these two, you know, made-up women, just these two.
- 12:12And they're very real stories. What's funny is that one of
- 12:16their stories, we get some details and we get some
- 12:19heartbreak and we get some forgiveness and eventually
- 12:22triumph and the other person we get one sentence so.
- 12:26These. Stories.
- 12:27It's interesting how she Tees it up about the two stories.
- 12:30When you think about narrative and storytelling, you would
- 12:32usually think that means you're going to go on 2 journeys.
- 12:35We really only go on one journey and then literally hear like a
- 12:40person. And yes, these are real stories.
- 12:45About two girls. Yeah, sure.
- 12:48Consider the source. It is Robyn, so of course it's
- 12:51not all true, but some of it must be true.
- 12:55But most of it is not she. Starts off by talking about how
- 12:59your purity is a great gift that
- 13:05setting up the tale talking about purity and holding in
- 13:10her hands. But we finally get a little bit
- 13:14of a glimpse of a silver Locket.
- 13:17A silver heart Locket that's about the size of a palm.
- 13:20Yeah, it's pretty big. It's pretty large.
- 13:22For a Locket, Robyn starts off
- 13:27telling us she was very chaste
- 13:30But then things changed. Yes, she was kind of a good
- 13:34girl, a good child. Purity has to do with your mind
- 13:39and your heart. It's a prize valued above all
- 13:43jewels, she tells everyone in the family room.
- 13:46It's so valuable, more valuable than the biggest diamond in the
- 13:50world, Your purity. But her body had urges.
- 13:54She felt like she was missing out on something by not
- 13:57indulging in her temptations with a boy and.
- 14:00Her physical wants. And needs.
- 14:03And longings. Her moist caramel was just
- 14:08twitching. No, just.
- 14:10Twitching. Caramel.
- 14:12No. Oh God.
- 14:14Oh gosh. That's wrong.
- 14:16I'm sorry everyone that's wrong.
- 14:18Robyn's senior year and into college, she started to question
- 14:28issues and their marriage isn't perfect and they're in plural
- 14:33marriage and she's questioning the fact that she's holding out
- 14:38on her physical wants. Why?
- 14:40Why am I doing this? And along with those unearth
- 14:44things in her life, she also realized that her parents aren't
- 14:50long, but it didn't seem to be getting her anywhere.
- 14:54Which I'm going like, OK, when I had questionings about faith and
- 15:01getting me anywhere. I don't quite, I don't think I
- 15:07believe man in the sky and like people going and chanting
- 15:10mindlessly and not actually changing their own lives to
- 15:12align with what they say. I was questioning things like
- 15:15that. Not like it's not really getting
- 15:19out of life. So why am I doing this?
- 15:23That's a very self-centered way of looking at it as opposed to
- 15:29It's a very me, me, me centered way of thinking about it like,
- 15:40And Robyn tells them each of you has a gift and it's your purity.
- 15:48husband or wife. And then she switches back into
- 15:52the two girl story. One girl, there was a boy who
- 15:57asked her for her purity, her purity.
- 16:01He begged and begged for it and so she gave it away and then
- 16:07this is where she throws the Locket onto the floor.
- 16:11And it clatters to the carpet and.
- 16:13It makes a clink noise and it must have been it hitting itself
- 16:16because I was like, did it hit
- 16:17It's like, no, it looks like it's just on the ground.
- 16:20It's on carpet. On the carpet.
- 16:22So why did it make a dinging noise?
- 16:23It must have gone open, close,
- 16:26her purity. And they pan out, you know, to
- 16:28show her doing this dramatic Locket throw.
- 16:32And the kids are literally all
- 16:34crossed looking down, not even
- 16:39how awkward they feel and she's just putting on this one woman
- 16:42show. It's so true.
- 16:44So after she says she gave it away and she throws the Locket
- 16:48onto the ground. Actually she just kind of like
- 16:50dropped it. It sounded like a throw because
- 16:53of the noise it made. And then she says she gave away
- 16:57her purity. Like whole way to emphasize the
- 17:01purity going away. He didn't respect it and he
- 17:04threw it on the ground. He threw it on.
- 17:07The and she says that like after
- 17:11It's almost like a afterthought,
- 17:13He threw it on the ground, not
- 17:14What am I doing? Oh, it's like she had a bit
- 17:17planned, like, oh, I'm going to throw the Locket on the ground
- 17:19and be all dramatic. And then she threw it and
- 17:21realized, oh shit, I was going
- 17:23it away like crap. She gives us a little insight
- 17:26into her past on the couch. She says that she was 19 when
- 17:31she was getting rebellious and
- 17:35and that at this time she was really questioning her beliefs.
- 17:39She says that she lowered her standards at this time in her
- 17:43life and she started dating this
- 17:47He was her first kiss and there was only one thing that he
- 17:52wanted. Dun Dun, Dun.
- 17:55And so I got pregnant, she says,
- 18:01hop, skipping and jumping 10 steps, and she doesn't finish
- 18:04the story. And then I got pregnant.
- 18:06Yes, there was only one thing he
- 18:10her to look around and look up and make it seem like are the
- 18:15tears going to come? Are the tears going to come?
- 18:17The tears ain't coming, the tears ain't coming.
- 18:19And then she goes, so I got pregnant and it's like.
- 18:23Just the weirdest, yeah. What is going on here?
- 18:26And of course, these couch moments where Robyn's talking
- 18:28about this, it's only her and Kody on the couch, and they're
- 18:31very close. He's staring at her.
- 18:34At other times, he's staring through her.
- 18:36At other times he's got his arm around her.
- 18:39It's very consoling and very like I'm here for you, Robyn.
- 18:42Like I'm just here to support you through this story.
- 18:46And we find out she got pregnant
- 18:51kiss situation. The first kiss and then ma'am,
- 18:53she's pregnant. So obviously we are talking here
- 18:57about Dayton's father. I just have to say this poor guy
- 19:02gets like his name drugged through the muds so many times.
- 19:06And I just can't imagine talking
- 19:10way. Because regardless of like,
- 19:13let's say you get knocked up before you fall in love with
- 19:16your partner, there's something that happens when you scramble
- 19:20your DNA with somebody that you have to have some sort of
- 19:24respect for them in some sort of
- 19:29But what if you only kissed him once and then you were
- 19:31pregnant? I don't know.
- 19:32I mean, that's what we're finding out here.
- 19:34And so that's why my mind is so blown.
- 19:36You know, the Virgin Robyn over here.
- 19:38The Virgin Meri. Yeah.
- 19:40Given her gift away, yet not wanting to fully confess what
- 19:43the gift is. She can't.
- 19:45Say that she had sex with him. She's not.
- 19:47Give a 10 second pause and then she was pregnant.
- 19:50And this is my whole issue with when people say, oh, I gave my
- 20:03less of a person afterwards because you gave them a piece of
- 20:11it's implying a decrease in your value after the action.
- 20:17And I just. Cringe so hard when I hear her
- 20:26there's any merit behind these claims.
- 20:28And here she is again dragging this guy telling this story
- 20:33about how oh poor woe is me. He begged and begged and begged
- 20:38me and so I gave my purity to him and now I'm this victim.
- 20:43It's like, Oh my gosh, she's trying to tell us during this
- 20:47story that she's taking ownership of, of the fact that
- 20:53sharing this story is because she told God that she felt that
- 20:56she needed to share this story if he would forgive her for
- 21:00having done this and getting pregnant out of wedlock.
- 21:04And it's just all so manipulative yet again because
- 21:12Dayton's dad, your ex-husband, saying he begged me he only
- 21:16wanted this one thing from me and this horrible shitty person
- 21:19and I lowered my standards for him.
- 21:21And even even here it's like you're trying to own up to
- 21:26something but you can't. So we cut back to her speaking
- 21:34a kiss. And she tells the kids that she
- 21:38has spent her whole life. Oh, this girl, this girl in this
- 21:47to get her purity back, and she couldn't.
- 21:50And she's still sad about it. And then they cut to a couch
- 21:54moment where we hear from Mckelty, and Mckelty says that
- 22:05I'd call it pretty. All right.
- 22:08And I was distracted because Leon is on the couch with
- 22:12Mckelty and Leon is wearing a wife beater looking white tank
- 22:19I saw shoulder. I saw arm flap.
- 22:23Farmer's tan. I saw farmer's tan, I saw
- 22:26teenage skin acne, and I'm like wow, Leon dressed like a sex
- 22:31addict during this episode. Interesting choice.
- 22:34Interesting choice. Interesting to say the least.
- 22:36I'm not so sure that that outfit meets Kody's purity
- 22:40requirements. It's an odd choice, Mckelty
- 22:43says. That this story really, really
- 22:51Like they can't. They're just.
- 22:54It's also juvenile. Made me not want to do anything
- 22:57ever. So Robyn continues with her
- 23:00sermon. She says that when this girl,
- 23:03this made this not made-up girl, this very real girl, when she
- 23:06met the man that she loves, she had to say, this boy, he took my
- 23:19it to someone else. I'm so sorry.
- 23:23So this theme of stealing something, taking something,
- 23:28it's something to give away. It's this commodity bit.
- 23:32It's like she'll never be. She's not a whole person now.
- 23:36And when you were talking about the underlying thing of this
- 23:39whole story, I was thinking about how she references Dayton
- 23:43in her couch moments, talking about the sermon and there's two
- 23:50She was with him for 9, married for 9 years, I believe when I
- 23:53did the math before they were together for 10 or 11 years.
- 23:56I mean, this isn't some multi month like, oh, we were together
- 24:01And I've never been the same because I've just had to deal
- 24:03with all the consequences. It's like, you were with the man
- 24:08happen, but my God, I, I just, I
- 24:12Yeah, that's. The math is not mapping on.
- 24:14No, it's not. And that's why I go to the like,
- 24:17OK, at some point you cared about this guy, why are you
- 24:19doing this? I have exes that I can still
- 24:23respect and I can look back at
- 24:26like that person served a purpose in my life at that time
- 24:30and I can still respect that person even though we're not
- 24:34together today. Like not every relationship that
- 24:37doesn't work out is a failure.
- 24:41They help you become who you are
- 24:43It doesn't have to be some big
- 24:46I hate when people look at a breakup or a divorce as a
- 24:50mistake because it's part of your story.
- 24:54It's you know who you are today and that person might be a
- 24:58mistake in your eyes, but I think in the grand scheme of
- 25:01things, most people, even if they regret decisions, realize
- 25:05that it has made them who they
- 25:08And every single time that her
- 25:11ex-husband, it's just like he just gets dragged and dragged
- 25:14and dragged and it's just like
- 25:17ownership but she's not. She's blaming him for
- 25:19everything. She literally says here that she
- 25:22had given her purity away to someone else who kind of stole
- 25:26it from her. The word stole in this context
- 25:30to me implies RAPE and I don't
- 25:35Yeah. It is wildly inappropriate.
- 25:38It is. She is basically implying to all
- 25:41the children in their family, church home, church shindig
- 25:46thing that they do that she was essayed by her ex-husband
- 25:53because he talked her into giving this piece of herself
- 25:57away. It's so messed up and it is just
- 26:01going to create a complex for all of the children in that
- 26:04room. Yeah.
- 26:05Particularly your oldest, Dayton, who I mean all of your
- 26:09children. But Dayton is a direct result of
- 26:13your getting knocked up before
- 26:15Yeah. To put these pieces together
- 26:17that your father stole my purity
- 26:23and I'm a victim and he is terrible.
- 26:25That fucks with someone's mind. Like that's not OK.
- 26:29Adam and Eve, she's comparing herself to like, oh, I was
- 26:33tempted by the snake and I just gave in because I had to type of
- 26:44other moms were like this is semi inappropriate.
- 26:48Like why are we doing this? I don't know.
- 26:50We find out that they all signed off on it, but whatever.
- 26:53Yeah, we don't get a lot of cutaways to the other wives,
- 26:56which I find to be interesting. There's, well, actually I saw
- 26:59both Christine and Meri in close-ups, but both of them, I
- 27:12dramatic way. But there's a moment where Robyn
- 27:17oh, I can't believe it. And I'm like, I don't even think
- 27:21I think you just had the footage and you put it that way because
- 27:23otherwise you would show us more.
- 27:25It's like Christine and Meri are there and they're listening, but
- 27:30don't see a lot of them. Because everyone's bored out of
- 27:32their fucking gourds. There's no reactions to be had
- 27:36down, they're looking up, they're fiddling with their
- 27:39shoelaces like Leon is listening.
- 27:41Well, I'm sure some of the older kids are probably paying a
- 27:44little more attention, but some of them are not.
- 27:46And the particularly the young ones are just like.
- 27:49They don't even know what purity is.
- 27:52They don't even know what is being.
- 27:54It's all this coded language and so you can't even really put, I
- 27:57mean, it's all implied in coded language.
- 27:59You know, she never says anything about having sex.
- 28:02She never says anything about safe sex.
- 28:05If you're going to have sex, she there's never.
- 28:07There's not really a lesson to learn here other than you're not
- 28:12That you'll get pregnant and regret your life choices for
- 28:15nine years? Yeah, she she says in a Couch
- 28:18interview that being chased is a tenant of their faith, and not
- 28:28Hell. Don't, don't.
- 28:30And then she says when I found out I was pregnant I was so
- 28:34scared. She goes on to say that when he
- 28:37asked me to marry him, I said yes.
- 28:40I was trying so hard to love my husband at that time.
- 28:45She was devastated by the news. Devastated.
- 28:48Yes. But Dayton was the best thing
- 28:52that ever happened to her. And they're showing pictures of
- 28:56Dayton as a baby across the screen at this time.
- 28:59And I harken back to how can you talk shit about your child's dad
- 29:05into a situation like this? You're literally putting
- 29:08pictures of your mistake across the screen and like spelling it
- 29:12out for us that this was your biggest mistake of your life.
- 29:16But Oh well, it turned out OK because it was Dayton.
- 29:19But you still were part of the biggest mistake of my life.
- 29:23Yeah, yeah. It's so fucked up.
- 29:25Self esteem booster. But Robyn, you know what she
- 29:28did? She turned that around and she
- 29:35God told her. You know what, Robyn?
- 29:37If you're willing to Share your story with others, with
- 29:40children, in particular those that we can have avoid making
- 29:44the biggest mistake of their life by giving away their
- 29:47purity, then you could help others and all could be forgiven
- 29:53I have something to say here, Christopher.
- 29:56I never told her to share her story.
- 29:59In fact, I told her not to share
- 30:05And that bitch just never listens to me.
- 30:09She pretends she listens, but has she ever really listened?
- 30:14I don't think so. Oh, thanks for visiting us, God.
- 30:20Thank you. Thank you for that tidbit, holy
- 30:22Moses. Well, the truth.
- 30:23The truth. You are in church right now and
- 30:27that was the word according to
- 30:32Wow. We find out that she sat down
- 30:35with the adults and told them all the story about having to
- 30:39get married and her child that
- 30:45And they do show us some clips, you know, from the first season
- 30:49where the family is getting together for the first time.
- 30:52So we're finding out that basically back when they met,
- 30:56she confessed her sins to the other wives before being brought
- 31:00in to the family. Something along the lines of
- 31:03letting them know what they were
- 31:07Now when I hear getting yourself
- 31:10crazy, out of control debt that they're going to have to pay
- 31:13off. I think about how they're going
- 31:14to have to work to support her
- 31:17I don't think that getting themselves into was welcoming 3
- 31:21wonderful children into their family.
- 31:23It was taking care of this adult
- 31:27my purity. My children are not mistakes.
- 31:29It was just a big mistake. Like, Oh my God, woman.
- 31:32It's she's always, there's always this positioning with her
- 31:35where it's never what it really is.
- 31:37It's never what it really is. And Kody buys it hook, line and
- 31:41sinker. Well, it was all a setup, right?
- 31:43It was all her setting up her side of the story from the get
- 31:46go. Like the woe is me character,
- 31:49the pick me girl. Like oh Oh yeah this is my sad
- 31:53sob story. Like feel bad for me.
- 31:57And now my favorite part of Robyn's purity sermon.
- 32:01The story of the second girl. Ho ho ho.
- 32:03The second girl saved her purity
- 32:08man she loves. Pause turns to Kody.
- 32:14This is yours. Literally hands the Locket to
- 32:19Kody as if it is a precious Pearl, the biggest diamond in
- 32:23the world. Well, it is her purity, worth
- 32:24more than any jewel on the planet.
- 32:27And she says, this is my gift to
- 32:32The ultimate gift, and it's yours.
- 32:35And it's yours and I'm going. So the second story is that
- 32:39she's this girl who's real but
- 32:44husband. And that's the story.
- 32:47And the way that she does it in front of the other wives is
- 32:52mind blowing to me. She is standing in this room in
- 32:55front of this man's other wives,
- 32:58she could have given her purity to him.
- 33:01And in a way, the way that it worked, it was very symbolic.
- 33:04I think in her head and in his
- 33:08of her being like in an alternate universe, actually,
- 33:12after God, you know, reinstated my purity.
- 33:14Now I'm giving it to you symbolically in front of all of
- 33:19your children and your wives. It's gross.
- 33:22It is so creepy. I wanted to vomit.
- 33:25Yeah, it was disgusting. Well, they should have prefaced
- 33:27this second part of the story with what Kody says next in his
- 33:31interview because Kody says that
- 33:35story. Because you can be atoned by God
- 33:38and get your purity back. And he feels like Robyn has
- 33:43atoned for this and had received
- 33:47actually able to give it to Kody.
- 33:52OK, you guys are nuts. Yeah, that would have made more
- 33:58sense to put in before Robyn's second story of the true Lie
- 34:02Girl, because without it, even with it, it's disturbing.
- 34:05But without it, it's even more disturbing.
- 34:07It's just like, are you reenacting you guys fucking for
- 34:10the first time but with God's permission?
- 34:12Like, it's just bizarre. They're pretending like, and
- 34:16this is just so grossing me but I'm so sorry, this is what I
- 34:20imagine in my mind. I imagine them together for
- 34:22their first time, kneeling on the ground and praying to God.
- 34:30matrimonial act that we are about to perform together.
- 34:34And like, I imagine them doing some weird sort of like thing
- 34:37like that to get her purity back so she can just give it to the
- 34:45to Them's the vibes here. Part of that.
- 34:47I'm not liking it. Part of that prayer was God.
- 34:50I've got your tool here, and I'm ready to spread my seed.
- 34:54I mean your seed. But Robyn, you know, she's a
- 34:57dirty whore, so we need you to give her back her purity.
- 35:00And yeah. And then they did.
- 35:02Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
- 35:03And, you know, said hocus pocus, bibbity, bibbity boop.
- 35:07And all of a sudden she was pure again.
- 35:09And it was wonderful. So when we return back to Robyn
- 35:14in front of the crooked mantle, she says all I ask of you is to
- 35:19protect your purity. Make a choice today Make the
- 35:23choice today to protect your purity.
- 35:26It's also manipulative, pushing children like.
- 35:30Make the promise today to stay chaste like it's, it's a
- 35:36manipulation tactic in religions to put choices like this, like
- 35:43You make this promise to God today, not to break it.
- 35:46It is a manipulation tactic because then if the child goes
- 35:53guilty. Oh, remember that day that we
- 35:55sat in our family church and you made that promise to God that
- 35:59day and you broke it? Yeah, like, well, it's weird
- 36:03because there's the flip side of a coin here.
- 36:06People generally don't want their children that aren't
- 36:10adults having sex. So while I agree with you, it's
- 36:14a manipulation tactic, I also feel like most parents when they
- 36:26And so it's like a tool in the tool belt or it's like a thing.
- 36:29And particularly if they're
- 36:30brainwashed, if they're literally like, I'm delulu, I'm
- 36:32crazy, then it's just more crazy
- 36:35But I feel bad for parents that are trying to hoping that their
- 36:39kids abstain from sex. But there's only so much you can
- 36:42do about it. And it's such a tricky thing.
- 36:46Like I, I don't have kids and I don't have daughters,
- 36:49especially because that purity is worth so much more than
- 36:51that tool of God. And so I don't know.
- 36:54But I imagine if I did have a daughter, I'd be like, I need
- 36:56you to at least wait till college because I can't think
- 36:58about you having sex when you're in like, I just, I want you to
- 37:06Most people that I know had sex before they were out of their
- 37:10parents house and I don't know, it's just weird.
- 37:14I don't know. Sorry.
- 37:14I'm going, I'm going. Totally detracting.
- 37:16Us Tell your kids not to do today.
- 37:18They will want to do tomorrow. The best that you can do is prep
- 37:26hormones are a raging. The only thing you can do is
- 37:30prepare them for the safest possible options and hope that
- 37:43parenthood with the mindset of I'm going to be able to control
- 37:46my child is just that's just not going to happen.
- 37:49That's just never going to happen.
- 37:50And if you really want little beings that you can control,
- 37:54like get a dog, get a cat. I don't know because.
- 37:57You're not another human. Yeah, you're supposed to be
- 38:00raising your children to be self-sufficient people that
- 38:03think for themselves and they're they're going to be horny like
- 38:08And so you got to set them up for success and teach them the
- 38:14they make the best decisions for themselves and be there for them
- 38:21would have. Made which will happen?
- 38:23It will happen. And the more that you're not
- 38:26forthcoming and talk about this stuff with your kids, the more
- 38:37communication about it is the only thing you can do to keep
- 38:40them safe. Any who going on a tangent about
- 38:46Robyn's sermon has touched us. We are literally touched by the
- 38:49word of Robyn. Yes, yes.
- 38:51Touched in our wet caramel, we get a couch moment with some of
- 38:56the teenagers and Hunter tells us that while he agrees with
- 39:00Robyn, theoretically, he feels it's most important to wait to
- 39:06for marriage probably isn't the most important thing.
- 39:10And I like that perspective from a teenager.
- 39:13You know, it's not like he's disregarding the story and
- 39:15making it sound, I mean, which it is a ridiculous story and he
- 39:19should be disregarding it. But his take away is the even
- 39:22keeled take away of like I heard the gist of the story.
- 39:25I I agree that you probably just shouldn't be having sex with
- 39:28someone you don't care about when you're a teenager.
- 39:30So I thought that was a reasonable take away from that
- 39:35We get a comment from Leon, of course, as we would, saying I
- 39:40think that sex is something that should be saved for marriage.
- 39:45That's it. Of course we already knew that,
- 39:48Leon. We knew you thought that way to
- 39:49let us know again. Leon's going to be a sister wife
- 39:55A doctor and a sister wife and
- 39:58already for marriage. For my husband.
- 40:03All right, Leon. And now we cut to a potluck,
- 40:06Honey, A potluck. Breakfast potluck after church.
- 40:11That kind of activity where everyone gathers after the.
- 40:15Sermon of the Lord. Sermon of the Lord The Lord
- 40:20spoke through Robyn, and now we're going to eat through our
- 40:22mouth holes. The family prophet Kody Brown
- 40:24hath a spoken. Now let's go and have a feast.
- 40:28Yes. So they transitioned to
- 40:30Christine's, which we aren't told, but then later I put the
- 40:33pieces together. That's fine.
- 40:34Remember they were giving us all
- 40:36episodes, knocking us over the
- 40:38But now that we're at the Brown family cul-de-sac and we're all
- 40:40settled after half a month maybe, which we figure out later
- 40:45potentially, now we just should know where we are.
- 40:48So I thought we were still at Meri's.
- 40:49Maybe we were, but I don't think
- 40:52two different days and they spliced it together, those
- 40:55motherfuckers. But apparently we might be at
- 40:57Christine's now, and there's a
- 41:00and everyone's gathering to get their potluck, which might be
- 41:04another meal on a different day.
- 41:05I didn't really pay attention to their clothes, so I don't know.
- 41:09Leon announces very smugly that
- 41:12they got a call from the senior advisor of admissions at
- 41:16Westminster and they got accepted.
- 41:20Woo. And they also got a $10,000
- 41:25scholarship, no? I'm just kidding.
- 41:31Yeah. So that covers about 1/8 of the
- 41:34annual cost of Westminster at that time.
- 41:38You know, $10,000, nothing to sneeze at.
- 41:39Also, you're not going to pay for your college on 10K.
- 41:42So, you know, keep keep on trucking, Leon.
- 41:44You're going to be a doctor. You got to keep working.
- 41:47Now the kids are clapping and they're enthusiastic.
- 41:49And it's funny, I like this moment because everyone in the
- 41:52family is being supportive and
- 41:56on, the years and years, it seems like when the kids have
- 42:01things happen, people care less.
- 42:02And this is, I don't know if it's a big family dynamic, it
- 42:07might be every family dynamic because I'm the oldest.
- 42:09So everyone cared about what I did, of course, and praised me
- 42:15But there's this enthusiasm, blah, blah, blah.
- 42:18By the time Gabe goes to college, you think anybody gave
- 42:20a fuck? You think anybody gave him a
- 42:23clap or a Hoo ha or a excitement for you?
- 42:25I don't think so. I don't think anybody.
- 42:27I don't think we're I don't think we're filming it.
- 42:28I don't think we're talking about it.
- 42:30There's nothing. So these older kids and I don't
- 42:32know if it's just the positioning of the show, you
- 42:34know that it's a storyline that something's happening, we're
- 42:36going to cover it or if it's just the way families progress.
- 42:39But these older kids like Logan
- 42:41going to school, there was multiple episodes, there was
- 42:43parties trying to convince him
- 42:45And here's Leon making an announcement and everyone's
- 42:48celebrating or whatever. When Isabel went to college, I
- 42:51think they had like a waving from the driveway moment or
- 42:55something, You know, I mean, like, no one.
- 42:57It's just weird. It just stood out to me as
- 42:58someone who's watched the show
- 43:00That's why we get into the talks
- 43:04to have this many children because you can give less and
- 43:07less of yourself to each child as you go through life.
- 43:10Like you're spreading yourself
- 43:12Like every child should get pat on the back and a big going
- 43:17away for going to college. It shouldn't get less and less.
- 43:21That to me is sad. Like that is really sad.
- 43:23I know it just it's not addressed in this episode.
- 43:25It just stood out to me as something where I'm like, yeah,
- 43:27I noticed that weaning, weaning,
- 43:32waning, waning as years go on.
- 43:37comment about the $10,000 and how $10,000 towards tuition is a
- 43:42big deal. I'm glad they got the
- 43:45scholarship. OK, that wasn't Kody's.
- 43:48They paid for like half of 1 semester for their freshman
- 43:52year. Not even half, definitely a
- 43:54fraction, but it's a. We are reminded that they are
- 43:59about to have five kids in college at once.
- 44:02Yes, in a couple years, 'cause
- 44:05in school, Leon and Aspen will
- 44:09more, Mckelty and Hunter probably.
- 44:12So these kids are in a couple years, they're going to have
- 44:14five of their kids in college.
- 44:18interesting retort to this point.
- 44:20Well, because Kody kind of is like Pooh poohing this and like
- 44:24how difficult it's going to be
- 44:28that they're going to need more money if they're going to go
- 44:31there. And he's kind of being a Debbie
- 44:33Downer about the money situation.
- 44:35And Christine kind of says, hey,
- 44:41in diapers. We didn't think we'd get past
- 44:43the diaper phase. We'll get past the college phase
- 44:47two. And she kind of does this like
- 44:48tongue click thing like. It was an interesting point.
- 44:52I think I air on the side of Christine in a bit.
- 44:56I think that life's challenges
- 44:59Sometimes you feel like you're
- 45:01you don't know how you're going to get through them.
- 45:02And then when you look back on
- 45:05did this and I did this, or this
- 45:06This person helped me. Different things happen where
- 45:09you get through things and you
- 45:12having talking about 5 kids in
- 45:14This is where I think she might be a little delulu because it's
- 45:17like 5 kids in college is a huge
- 45:21It's not necessarily buying diapers, but a young family
- 45:24buying diapers for five kids. That must have seemed in
- 45:28insurmountable or like we're never going to be able to get
- 45:30through this, you know? I get a little confused by their
- 45:33conversations about a college and the funding college, because
- 45:37obviously they're not going to
- 45:40towards all of these kids as college tuitions.
- 45:43It doesn't seem like, because that's a lot of kids.
- 45:45And I don't know, even if you could give your kid 10 grand
- 45:49towards school, that is a big deal.
- 45:52Yeah. And when you have this many
- 45:53kids, that happening is like slim to none.
- 45:56But you guys technically aren't all married, so the chances of
- 46:00your child getting some sort of financial aid are very high.
- 46:04And your kids probably going to have to take out student loans.
- 46:07But it's not like your kid is going to not be able to go to
- 46:11college. Their conversation they have
- 46:14around college each time is just
- 46:17the average person does have to take out student loans.
- 46:20And that's even for a family of like one or two kids, right?
- 46:23So a family this large, you're
- 46:26going to have to take out student loans for your child.
- 46:29You said it. Yeah.
- 46:30Kody is an idiot. Yeah.
- 46:32This is what unfolds through the
- 46:35It's probably coming up pretty
- 46:38start going to. Yeah.
- 46:39So discussions about not Co signing for student loans and
- 46:44being very opposed to this. This is what Kody says while the
- 46:48wives are trying to talk sense
- 46:52I mean, most people have student
- 46:54can't pay for it and they can't pay for it.
- 46:55It's very basic. Kody's Oh, you can't start life
- 46:59out with debt. And it's like, well, isn't that
- 47:00ideal? Wouldn't that be lovely if every
- 47:02person could just start their adult life out without debt?
- 47:04You had you have 20 fucking children.
- 47:06What are you talking about? What were you thinking?
- 47:08He's such an idiot. How do you think that's not
- 47:10going to happen? And look at where the fuck you
- 47:12are are now. But also you married a woman
- 47:14with a shit ton of debt. I would be more willing to get
- 47:17in debt over my child's education than buying porcelain
- 47:21dolls. But that's just me.
- 47:24I don't know these guys. Well, that's why your doll
- 47:26collection is so skimpy and cheap, honey.
- 47:29That's why they all have little cracks in their faces.
- 47:32That's why I'm always making fun
- 47:37They're not porcelain, they're
- 47:40Those plastic and rubber dolls, they're just crap.
- 47:44Paper mache so made them myself.
- 47:45This is it. Why aren't you in more debt
- 47:47Because of your dolls? I mean, Oh my.
- 47:51God. Well, after this potluck,
- 47:53they're going to bury a time capsule.
- 47:55So now we're getting to the time capsule.
- 47:57Woo Hoo. And Kody tells everyone.
- 47:59I'd like you to all get something you'd like to see in
- 48:05announcement. And it almost seems like other
- 48:09adults knew, nobody knows this is happening.
- 48:11OK, so we're doing a time capsule.
- 48:13So cool. All the kids are going to scurry
- 48:19time capsule. But before we even get to the
- 48:21lovely things that the children and parents picked to put in
- 48:24said time capsule, we hear a little bit from Robyn again
- 48:28about how she's so happy that she'll be able to put something
- 48:31into the ground that will be there in five years and they
- 48:34will be there in five years, and she'll be in the same home in
- 48:39five years. For the first time ever, she's
- 48:45tidbit in. Well, of course, I mean, Robyn's
- 48:50victimhood and now she's going to be in a home for five years.
- 48:54Cut to when we hear the date I'm
- 48:56going. We should actually look up and
- 48:58see when they leave these homes.
- 48:59Not to give too much away to people, our listeners at home
- 49:03who haven't seen the show, but but are they there in five
- 49:06years? I don't know.
- 49:07Is that red cooler of a time capsule still buried?
- 49:11There, that red cooler, I was going to say it was Igloo, but
- 49:16It's probably some knock off. But, you know, we do get to the
- 49:19cooler. We do get there.
- 49:21Christine does tell us that she wishes they would have had their
- 49:29And I was L0L 0L0 L ING. I thought, oh, my God, I hope
- 49:33I'm not annoying. I hope I'm not annoying, Kimber,
- 49:38I was like, what on God's green earth are you talking about?
- 49:41Yeah. Why are you doing a time capsule
- 49:46Why? Like you're being forced to do
- 49:50Like it couldn't wait a month until you have your family
- 49:53mission statement. These guys and they're weird
- 49:56timelines that they put on themselves where they need to do
- 50:02finish stupid shit like their family mission statement.
- 50:05It's like, what are these timelines you give yourselves?
- 50:11Days. Are you idiot?
- 50:13Yes, absolutely. Oh my.
- 50:15God, absurd. No planning.
- 50:16And I'm imagining when you were saying that I was, I had a
- 50:18visual in my head of one of the producers coming with a gun and
- 50:21being like you were doing a time capsule and you're doing it
- 50:24this week. Like what?
- 50:25On Gun Screen Earth, you've already talked about the mission
- 50:29You've had at least two meetings at this point to craft it and
- 50:33you haven't done that. But let's make sure we get our
- 50:38Like what the fuck? In like the middle of January or
- 50:44like roughly a month at this point, right?
- 50:46So why are you doing it right now anyway?
- 50:48Yeah, it's very important. It's very important.
- 50:50It gets in the ground. Well, hot off of Christine's
- 50:54comment about the time capsule and their missing mission
- 50:57statement, they cut to the couch for a fab To Be Less Precious
- 51:00Pearl, where Leon says that a family mission statement is
- 51:03stupid because they're not a business, they're a family.
- 51:07Which I love because it's just more Debbie Downer vibes from
- 51:11Leon. We get plenty of that.
- 51:13Thank you, Leon. Kind of chiding Leon like, why
- 51:19because we're a family, not a business.
- 51:21Like Oh my God, get off your fucking high horse.
- 51:25Yet again Leon trying to seem like the smartest one in the God
- 51:30Leon Buzzkill Brown hit us. Leon the Buzzkill.
- 51:34Wisdom. Leon's going to be a doctor.
- 51:37So then we cut to everyone following Kody carrying his red
- 51:40plastic cooler to the backyard. And it's one of those red
- 51:44coolers that has a white top and the white handle, and it looks
- 51:49you bring a cooler camping, blah, blah, blah.
- 51:51I have to mention that Hunter decides to put a wrestling one
- 51:58was cute. That is cute.
- 52:00And something that's not so cute, Meri puts in a My sister
- 52:07other things, but those were the two that drew my attention.
- 52:11That's funny, if the wrestling metal was made out of plastic,
- 52:21So the family has followed Kody to the backyard, and he starts
- 52:32Poor Drake. That was the name of the dog we
- 52:34couldn't remember the other day.
- 52:36And so Kody's back there digging
- 52:38But during this time, oh, some
- 52:43turns out they didn't want to stand around and watch their dad
- 52:45digging a hole. And he points out, oh, well, my
- 52:48boys aren't here to help me dig this hole.
- 52:50Hole. No one wants to help with this.
- 52:53It's like, yeah, nobody cares.
- 52:57Peyton, I think both on their phones, laying on couches,
- 53:01Literally, the kids are disseminated.
- 53:03They don't give a fuck. It's weird because before they
- 53:06even show them digging the hole,
- 53:09together, like with these plastic cups of juice and they
- 53:14they go hip hip. Hooray.
- 53:17Like cheers, their juice cups.
- 53:22this hole alone. It's like, what were you guys
- 53:24just hip, hip hurraying about?
- 53:27Right, they hip, hip, hurray. And then he's alone in the
- 53:30backyard, but not unsupervised
- 53:35the leader of the pack, Meri Brown.
- 53:38If you want something done right, have Meri Brown watch you
- 53:40do it. That's what I always say.
- 53:42Oh, God. So Meri and Kody are there
- 53:45together alone and he's pickaxing into the ground and
- 53:49she's just standing there looking beautiful.
- 53:54And Kody takes a break and says we need to talk about the baby
- 53:58decision. Yep, of course he needs an
- 54:00answer on that baby stuff. The baby business.
- 54:03Yeah, the baby stuff, he literally says the word stuff
- 54:07and it's so great because he goes back to digging.
- 54:09And Meri, oh, bless her heart.
- 54:12Sometimes I just love her, she
- 54:14When we talk about this, I need you to be involved in the
- 54:18conversation. He flips his head up and looks
- 54:23at her like Shaggy from scooby-doo.
- 54:27Like nothing behind the eyes except for like.
- 54:32Vacant, vacant look dumb as shit
- 54:37picking, shoveling whoops his head up stops and there's
- 54:42literally a Dun Dun from the music.
- 54:44Like, are you fucking kidding?
- 54:49Scooby-doo going. Yeah, Scooby, what are we?
- 54:53Doing. I feel like Scooby's the one
- 54:55that makes the noise. Yeah, there is.
- 54:58I don't. I don't.
- 54:59Know true? One of them does, and he's one
- 55:01of the two. He's the one of the two.
- 55:04Kody's either the dog or the dumb guy that had the dog, and
- 55:08it's true it it literally looked
- 55:10He was wearing his guest shirt.
- 55:11Dig in that hole and Meri was wearing a yellow blouse with all
- 55:19ruffles. Yeah, little circles of like
- 55:21some other type of material that like fluttered in the wind.
- 55:25Cascaded down her shirt. It was very interesting they got
- 55:31Except for Kody. Never looks good but you know he
- 55:35Shout out to our listener who pointed out the guest at the
- 55:37very beginning when we thought
- 55:40Yeah, and this one is a blatant guest shirt.
- 55:43They actually show the logo, which I'm surprised by.
- 55:46Yeah, they make their choices about whether to blur that out
- 55:49or not. Yeah.
- 55:50It's a little odd and it's kind of like this weird purpley
- 55:54color as. Well, black lettering, yeah, it
- 55:57was not attractive, but whatever.
- 55:59It's an odd choice. And then of course Meri has to
- 56:02rehash all the crap we've already lived through.
- 56:04Watching them hem and Haw about this baby decision.
- 56:08It's like, God, I don't want to hear about this anymore.
- 56:10I'm so over. It Oh yeah, she has to let us
- 56:12know how emotional it's been trying to decide if they want to
- 56:16go through with all of the medical stuff to have a baby.
- 56:20Yawn. Who cares?
- 56:22Yeah. And then all of a sudden,
- 56:23everybody is surrounding Meri and Kody again, back at the big
- 56:26hole he's dug for their time capsule.
- 56:30Oh. And what day are we going to
- 56:32open this time capsule on? No sooner than Civil Rights Day
- 56:372018, which Meri is reading from
- 56:44outside of the cooler. And I thought, you know, a
- 56:47family. What is this called?
- 56:49A time capsule? Yeah.
- 56:50I probably would have selected
- 56:53cooler. I don't know.
- 56:54You know, it works. Maybe.
- 56:56Maybe it works. I don't think we'll ever know.
- 56:58Think it fully seals. I feel like you're going to open
- 57:00that up in five years and there's going to be bugs and
- 57:04weird shit in there with it. Who knows?
- 57:07But the IT just, it's one of those things where if I, well,
- 57:10if I was going to be doing this,
- 57:12I would find something cute and Saran wrap or like, you know,
- 57:16you have to make it OK to go in the ground.
- 57:18Maybe even an urn for God's sake.
- 57:20Like anything would have been better than this.
- 57:22I don't think this seals like a Tupperware would have been
- 57:25better than this probably. Yeah, and it's got a piece of
- 57:28paper taped to it, which they probably taped the whole outside
- 57:31of the paper, but let's be real,
- 57:34It's like written with Sharpie.
- 57:35Like you couldn't even put something nice on it.
- 57:37There is a bunch of sharpie written all over the cooler as
- 57:41It's terrible. Now I'm going to look up Civil
- 57:50rights Day is to align with their whole, like we're going to
- 57:55rights. Like I think they're kind of
- 57:57incorporating that. Why don't they ever make
- 58:00connections like fully for the viewer?
- 58:02Like they just can't do that. You're just.
- 58:04Supposed to summarize it I guess.
- 58:06Like, what a dumb day to pick. It's not even Joseph Smith's
- 58:10birthday. Come on.
- 58:12Well, Civil Rights Day is traditionally commemorated on
- 58:16January 15th to honor Martin Luther King.
- 58:20So obviously a tie in to civil rights with Martin Luther King.
- 58:25But I think their tie in is
- 58:27really that they are suing the
- 58:30their civil rights as polygamists.
- 58:32Watching another day of rights
- 58:34Well, Robyn had a dream, you know, and this was this was her
- 58:37dream. She did.
- 58:39It's all coming full circle to.
- 58:41Bury a cooler in the backyard. Oh lordy.
- 58:45Oh Lord my God. Now let's see when the Browns
- 58:50move out of these houses, OK? So January 15th of 2018 is when
- 58:56this was supposed to be open. Yes.
- 58:58So they've been in the homes about half a month, yeah.
- 59:02So when I looked up when the Browns leave their homes on the
- 59:07cul-de-sac, it is roughly summer of 2018.
- 59:09So it would be after this they're supposed a date where
- 59:13they're going to take up the what is this thing called Time
- 59:17I don't know why I can't remember that term.
- 59:18Oh, I wonder if we're going to get a digging up of the time
- 59:22capsule. This is it.
- 59:23I don't recall from my watching before.
- 59:26I don't remember it, so I assumed that they didn't, which
- 59:29is why maybe the. Shit's just ruined so they can't
- 59:34Like, oh, our lives are rotting away like our time capsule.
- 59:38I hope Hunter's medal is OK. Oh, that's all I hope.
- 59:42Probably. Rusted.
- 59:42Oh God. So to wrap up the episode, Kody
- 59:47brings us back to Meri's baby decision and shares some
- 59:51touching thoughts and some deep, deep, deep feelings here.
- 59:56More like a cryptic message. What does Kody tell us, darling
- 1:00:00Kody? Says it's about halfway into the
- 1:00:09I don't know which way she's leaning, but there's a lot of
- 1:00:14thoughts in my head that have been adjusting, so we'll see
- 1:00:18what we come up with. Next week on Sister Wives, like
- 1:00:26that was the end of the episode and that was that.
- 1:00:30There are quotes sometimes, and I shit you not, we're writing
- 1:00:33them down word for word. Sometimes.
- 1:00:35Are just so prick and weird and nonsensical and my guess is that
- 1:00:47homes that this was when the decision is going to be made and
- 1:00:50he's been so dead set on having a deadline.
- 1:00:52OK well it's halfway into the month.
- 1:00:54We've been into the homes looking at my watch here halfway
- 1:01:00decision and my thoughts in my head have been adjusting.
- 1:01:05Right. So you've changed your mind
- 1:01:08about wanting a baby with Meri, is my reading between the lines
- 1:01:13there. How do you not know which way
- 1:01:16she's leaning? Because they don't see each
- 1:01:19other and they don't talk. How does a husband not know
- 1:01:22which way their wife is leaning about having a baby after all
- 1:01:26this fucking time? All this hashing it out, I don't
- 1:01:34paint color. I don't know if she's leaning
- 1:01:35more towards the blue or the purple.
- 1:01:37But we've been talking about it for five years, beating you over
- 1:01:46I just. I hope it's the end.
- 1:01:49I'm so over it. I'm so over.
- 1:01:50It I hope that next episode we get this big old baby decision
- 1:01:58Just like the dogs, Just like this time capsule we're going.
- 1:02:06Bury this decision. Be done with it.
- 1:02:08Yeah, put Meri's baby decision next to Drake and.
- 1:02:10Put it to rest. Let's move on.
- 1:02:12Yeah. All right, darling, So you know
- 1:02:15what time it is. It's time for mustard seed and
- 1:02:26positive way? Well, my mustard seed is going
- 1:02:35about being in a long term relationship and a loving
- 1:02:40relationship should be the premise of whether you decide to
- 1:02:47Sexual relations with that woman.
- 1:02:49I think that given what they were just subjected to by Robyn,
- 1:03:03into reality. I also thought it was pretty
- 1:03:07adorable that Hunter put a wrestling trophy into the time
- 1:03:14Yeah, definitely stole my mustard seed on this one for
- 1:03:17sure. There weren't a lot of options.
- 1:03:19It's kind of a weird episode.
- 1:03:20We just heard a lot from Robyn, which isn't going to help
- 1:03:23anybody. No, unfortunately.
- 1:03:26I'm going to give my mustard seed to Christine.
- 1:03:29Another Christine mustard seed.
- 1:03:30Wow. Definitely a lot did not happen
- 1:03:32in this episode. I appreciated her reference to
- 1:03:40particularly when it comes to finances.
- 1:03:42Most of us have had highs and lows when it comes to money and
- 1:03:47the lows can be very scary. It can feel all-encompassing.
- 1:03:52It has made people literally take their own lives because of
- 1:03:57financial situations. So to be hearing your husband
- 1:04:00talking about the hard times that are coming up and to
- 1:04:05default, to remember we've been there before and we got through
- 1:04:10it is a well adjusted perspective.
- 1:04:12Even if I feel like it's diminishing, you know, the
- 1:04:15actual efforts that it will take to finance college.
- 1:04:18I like that she said that. I feel like that's a good
- 1:04:21reminder when you're talking about finances.
- 1:04:23When Kody has referenced that Christine doesn't have her sunny
- 1:04:30you see moments like this where Christine is being like the
- 1:04:34levity in the situation and trying to be the one with the
- 1:04:38sunny disposition. Like, look, we have these
- 1:04:40struggles, but there's a bright side to all of it.
- 1:04:43And we'll make it out, you know, to the other side.
- 1:04:46And I think he just doesn't appreciate her anymore because
- 1:04:55disposition when it comes to trying to move the family
- 1:04:58forward. And I think that he just doesn't
- 1:05:03appreciating her anymore. So he's missing moments like
- 1:05:07this where she is sunny disposition Christine.
- 1:05:10Sure. Yeah.
- 1:05:11And now the ones that should be pretty easy for us, shit stain.
- 1:05:17And honey, you know, ladies
- 1:05:18first always on this podcast. We respect women on this
- 1:05:22podcast. So your shit stain, gosh.
- 1:05:24Well, it's pretty obvious that
- 1:05:27know, one or the other here as
- 1:05:33The leaderboard has these. 2 on it.
- 1:05:34It's just a matter of which one you want to lay it out for.
- 1:05:39Oh my God, obviously. Given that you were born with a
- 1:05:43vagina and that you probably gave away your purity in a
- 1:05:48disgusting manner, I think that you probably identify with
- 1:05:51Robyn's story. So maybe, maybe you should pick
- 1:05:53Robyn. Of course it's Robyn for me, of
- 1:05:56course, and mostly just because of the like internalized
- 1:06:00misogyny here and the fact that she thinks herself worth is
- 1:06:03dependent on her virginity and
- 1:06:08dependent on their virginity. And that they're going to be
- 1:06:11less of a person and less to give away to a spouse if they do
- 1:06:15this horrible thing that she did.
- 1:06:18And she's dragging her husband
- 1:06:21son into it this time and how he
- 1:06:25she ended up loving him because he's ended up being one of the
- 1:06:28best things in my life, but he was still a mistake.
- 1:06:31She's everything about her just pissed me off in this episode.
- 1:06:35And I could go on and on and on about the virginity talk and
- 1:06:39the giving up your virginity, the losing your purity, and
- 1:06:43how disgusting that language is when it comes to talking about
- 1:06:47women that way. I'll just leave it at that
- 1:06:50because I think that people know
- 1:06:54and I don't want to proselytize to people or get on my soapbox
- 1:06:58about it. This was 2013 when this aired.
- 1:07:02This way of thinking is still so
- 1:07:06diminishing women's value is still so pervasive in our
- 1:07:10country that it just pisses me
- 1:07:13And yeah, that's all I'll say.
- 1:07:17language that speaks to the misogyny in our culture and not
- 1:07:21even being part of this cult where they can talk about this
- 1:07:24in an episode and not really even say what happened.
- 1:07:28They don't say that Robyn had sex and she got pregnant.
- 1:07:32And like, they don't actually use the language of what
- 1:07:35happened. It's all this like metaphoric,
- 1:07:36you know, purity and blah, blah,
- 1:07:39And it's just it's gross. And it's gross that I followed
- 1:07:41it. Like I'm like, yeah, I, I, we
- 1:07:43all. Knew what it was about.
- 1:07:44We all knew. What it was about?
- 1:07:45And oh hey, in case we didn't make this clear enough, the
- 1:07:48story is about her. Both stories are about her.
- 1:07:52Like what the fuck was that? Both of these made-up real
- 1:07:55stories from made-up real girls.
- 1:07:57That didn't even flow. Yeah, I know it was.
- 1:08:00She's such an idiot. The throwing and the clanking of
- 1:08:07It made that much noise on carpet.
- 1:08:09Bitch, get out of town. Biggest mistake of all, Robyn,
- 1:08:14when you threw it on the ground,
- 1:08:17threw it on the ground, Lonely Island style.
- 1:08:21Missed opportunity. Missed opportunity.
- 1:08:25So my shit stain this week has
- 1:08:29Robyn's partner in crime. His belief in Robyn's story, You
- 1:08:33know that he's obviously super
- 1:08:38be reborn as a pure woman before
- 1:08:43And then sitting there next to
- 1:08:47receiving her gift. And he was very somber during
- 1:08:50the entire thing. It's like he was looking at her,
- 1:08:53looking at the ground, looking
- 1:08:56Some of the other wives that they were giving a sermon.
- 1:08:58I would suspect that he would interrupt with his own little
- 1:09:01two cents about what it should
- 1:09:04Or let me tell you what she said.
- 1:09:05Let me summarize it for you. Instead.
- 1:09:07It was Robyn's sermon, so he sat
- 1:09:10though it was the one sermon that probably should have been
- 1:09:12interrupted. You share your shame, darling,
- 1:09:15and you share your mistakes and I'm going to sit here and share
- 1:09:17in your shame with you and I'm
- 1:09:20It gave me really weird vibes.
- 1:09:26for sure. Almost feels forced and like
- 1:09:31he's forcing her hand because she should be ashamed of this
- 1:09:35and thank God she's done the work so that she could give me
- 1:09:39her purity again. It's it's got gross vibes.
- 1:09:43And then of course, the talk about financing for college.
- 1:09:46He's just always looking on the dark side, making things harder
- 1:09:50for people than they need to be and then holding them to these
- 1:09:54standards that are not even necessary and hard and
- 1:09:58challenging. And of course, trying to dig a
- 1:10:01hole in the backyard by himself and looking ridiculous.
- 1:10:04And the whole ending about Meri's baby decision and how he
- 1:10:08already probably thinks she shouldn't do it, which they're
- 1:10:11avoiding saying, they're both avoiding saying for this
- 1:10:14storyline. I guess I don't really know.
- 1:10:17But he's alluding to the fact that he's having, what does he
- 1:10:19say? His thoughts are adjusting.
- 1:10:22So, you know, who knows what the
- 1:10:24And that it's been half a month since they moved in.
- 1:10:27So obviously it's time to have
- 1:10:29You've gone back and forth on this for five years and now it's
- 1:10:32half a month in? Got to make that decision, Buck.
- 1:10:35Kody. The whole thing's gross and Kody
- 1:10:37gets my shit stain. Are they setting Leon up for
- 1:10:40another meltdown, breakdown, disappointment by not just being
- 1:10:45honest and saying you cannot afford to go to this school?
- 1:10:49A $10,000 scholarship isn't going to get you Jack shit.
- 1:10:52You need to look at other schools.
- 1:10:54Only time will tell, darling. Our keep Sweet moment this week
- 1:10:59comes to us from a comment on Spotify from Meg's Over Easy,
