Latest / Neville Goddard Mindset / SATS: The One Sleep Technique That Works Every Time
Transcript
- 0:00A woman came to me once after one of my lectures in Lowe's
- 0:03Angels. She was 41 years old, a school
- 0:06teacher, and she had been trying for 11 years to find a husband.
- 0:10She had prayed, she had asked, she had waited, and nothing had
- 0:14come. She sat in the back row that
- 0:16evening, arms folded, not sure she believed a word I was
- 0:20saying, but she was there, and that is always the beginning.
- 0:24I told her something that night that I will tell you now.
- 0:27I said. The trouble is not that your
- 0:29desire is too large. The trouble is that you keep
- 0:32asking from the wrong state. You fall asleep as a woman who
- 0:35wants a husband, and so that wanting crystallizes around you
- 0:39like a shell. You wake each morning, and the
- 0:42wanting is still there because the state you carried into sleep
- 0:45is the state you carried back out.
- 0:48She looked at me then, for the first time without her arms
- 0:51folded. I said, Tonight, when you lie
- 0:54down, do not ask. Do not want.
- 0:56Instead, feel what it would feel like if it were already served.
- 1:00That conversation changed her life, and what I taught her that
- 1:03night, I will teach you now. In these next 30 minutes, I'm
- 1:07going to give you the single most powerful technique I ever
- 1:11taught. I called it the state akin to
- 1:13sleep, and I used it myself for decades.
- 1:16Every crystallization of assumption I ever experienced,
- 1:20every door that opened, every circumstance that rearranged,
- 1:23came through this one practice. This is not theory.
- 1:27I'm not asking you to believe me on faith alone.
- 1:30I am asking you to try it tonight, one night, and then
- 1:33tell me what happens. The state akin to sleep is not a
- 1:37meditation. It is not an affirmation.
- 1:39It is not a ritual. It is a precise in an act
- 1:43performed at the threshold between waking and sleep, where
- 1:46your conscious mind relaxes its grip and the deeper power of
- 1:50consciousness becomes fully operative.
- 1:52You are imagination, and imagination creates reality.
- 1:56And tonight I will show you exactly how to use that power.
- 2:00Let me begin where everything must begin, which is with the
- 2:03nature of consciousness. You believe you live in a
- 2:06physical world. You believe that the things
- 2:09around you, the walls, the street, the people in your life
- 2:12are solid and primary. And you believe that you are a
- 2:15small thing inside that world, hoping and trying and waiting
- 2:19for it to respond to you. I tell you from my own
- 2:22experience, that is precisely backwards.
- 2:25Consciousness is the only reality, what you observe as the
- 2:29outer world. World is a projection.
- 2:31It is a shadow cast by what you carry within your assumptions.
- 2:35Not your wishes, not your hopes, but your deep, felt, inhabited
- 2:39assumptions. These are the causes of
- 2:42everything that appears in your life.
- 2:44Now most people understand this as a concept.
- 2:47They nod their heads, they say yes, I understand that my
- 2:50thoughts create my reality. And then they go back to
- 2:53worrying, doubting, rehearsing what they do not want and
- 2:57wondering why nothing changes. The trouble is not the
- 3:00understanding. The trouble is the state.
- 3:03A state is not a thought. You think once a state is the
- 3:06felt reality you inhabit. When you are truly in a state,
- 3:10you do not think about your desire, you think from it.
- 3:13You see the world through the eyes of the person who already
- 3:16has what you want. The assumption is not something
- 3:19you hold, it is something you wear like a garment until it
- 3:23becomes your skin. This is the critical
- 3:25distinction, and it is why technique matters, because the
- 3:29conscious waking mind is a doubter.
- 3:32It observes the current facts of your life, the empty bank
- 3:35account, the silent phone, the condition that has not changed.
- 3:39And it says this is real. I must deal with this, I cannot
- 3:43pretend otherwise. And it is right.
- 3:45In the waking state, with your conscious defenses fully active,
- 3:49you cannot easily override what your senses report to you as
- 3:53real. But there is a threshold, there
- 3:56is a borderline between waking and sleep, where the conscious
- 3:59mind releases its grip, the body begins to relax, the critical
- 4:03faculty dims. And in that state, what I call
- 4:06the state akin to sleep, the imagination becomes fully
- 4:10operative. What you impress upon yourself
- 4:12in that state goes directly into the deep subconscious, bypassing
- 4:16all resistance. This is what I taught for 30
- 4:20years and This is why I called it the operant power of
- 4:23consciousness working at its most accessible moment.
- 4:26The man in the Bible understood this when it is written that God
- 4:30caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and while he slept he
- 4:34shaped the rib into woman. This is not a historical account
- 4:38of bone surgery. This is a teaching about states.
- 4:41God, which is your own consciousness, acts upon you
- 4:44most powerfully in the state akin to sleep.
- 4:47What is shaped there becomes fact in the outer world.
- 4:50I tell you from my own experience, I have used this
- 4:53technique to cross oceans without money, to find and
- 4:57housing in impossible circumstances, to heal
- 5:00conditions that physicians had declared permanent, not once,
- 5:04many times, and always through the same door, the threshold of
- 5:08sleep where imagination becomes the only law.
- 5:11Let me now tell you precisely how it is done.
- 5:14Because there is a method, there is a technique, and when you
- 5:17understand it, truly understand it, not as theory but as
- 5:21practice, you will never again go to sleep the way you did
- 5:25before. We have established something
- 5:27important together. We have seen that consciousness
- 5:30is the cause, not the effect, of the world you inhabit.
- 5:34We have seen that your assumptions, not your
- 5:36circumstances, determine what crystallizes around you.
- 5:40And we have seen that there is a specific doorway, the state akin
- 5:44to sleep, where the imagination operates without resistance.
- 5:48But knowing the doorway exists is not the same as walking
- 5:51through it. What I am about to give you is
- 5:53the precise method, the exact inner moves, the way you
- 5:57position your imagination, the scene you construct, and the
- 6:01feeling you must inhabit before you allow yourself to drift into
- 6:04sleep. Stay with me.
- 6:06This is where everything changes.
- 6:08The state akin to sleep begins, as all true states do, with the
- 6:12body before anything else. You must be still, not merely
- 6:15quiet still. Lie down, close your eyes, Let
- 6:19the body release its tensions 1 by 1, beginning with the face,
- 6:23which holds more tension than most people realize, moving
- 6:26through the shoulders, the chest, the hands.
- 6:29You are not forcing relaxation, you are simply allowing it.
- 6:33You are giving your body permission to stop performing.
- 6:35As the body stills, you will notice something.
- 6:38The mind begins to produce images spontaneously, random
- 6:42fragments, faces, places, objects without context.
- 6:46This is the hypnagogic state beginning the borderland I have
- 6:50spoken of. This is the threshold you are
- 6:52seeking. Many people try to use
- 6:54affirmations at this moment. They repeat words, phrases,
- 6:59statements of what they want and they wonder why nothing comes of
- 7:02it. The answer is simple.
- 7:04Words are not states, words are symbols and the subconscious
- 7:08does not respond to symbols, it responds to feeling.
- 7:12What you need as you enter the state, akin to sleep is not a
- 7:15statement, it is a scene. I want you to construct a single
- 7:19specific sensory scene that implies your wish fulfilled. 1
- 7:23scene. Not a montage of all the things
- 7:26you want. Not a vision of your whole new
- 7:28life. One small, intimate sensory
- 7:31scene that could only exist if your desire were already a fact.
- 7:35If you want to be married, do not imagine a wedding.
- 7:38Imagine the weight of a ring on your finger as you go about an
- 7:42ordinary morning. Imagine glancing across a room
- 7:45and meeting the eyes of your beloved with the easy
- 7:48familiarity of someone who has done this 1000 times.
- 7:52If you want money, do not imagine a number in a bank
- 7:55account. Imagine the feeling in your body
- 7:58as you write a check for something you could never have
- 8:00afforded before. And the feeling is ease, Not
- 8:03excitement. Ease because this is normal now.
- 8:07This is your life. If you want to be healed, do not
- 8:10imagine tests and results. Imagine the simple, unremarkable
- 8:14feeling of a body that works. Walking up a flight of stairs
- 8:18without thinking about it. Waking in the morning without
- 8:21bracing for pain. The must be specific, it must be
- 8:24sensory, and it must be short enough to repeat in your mind
- 8:28like a loop. Now, as your body relaxes and
- 8:31the threshold approaches, you begin to play your scene.
- 8:34You do not watch it as though it were a film.
- 8:37You inhabit it. You feel the sensations from the
- 8:39inside. You feel the weight of the ring,
- 8:42you feel the texture of the check beneath your fingers.
- 8:46You feel the air in your lungs as you climb those stairs
- 8:48without effort. As you repeat the scene, allow
- 8:51it to feel normal. This is the key that most people
- 8:54miss. They inject excitement into
- 8:56their imaginal act, and excitement is a signal that The
- 9:00thing is still outside, still future, still not here.
- 9:04The feeling you are cultivating is not excitement, it is
- 9:07normalcy. The quiet, settled feeling of a
- 9:10desire already crystallized, the feeling of it being so ordinary
- 9:14that you barely notice it anymore.
- 9:16Persist in this scene until you feel what I call the click.
- 9:20A moment of settling, like something locking into place, or
- 9:23until you drift naturally into sleep while inhabiting the
- 9:27scene. Either is sufficient.
- 9:29Either means the impression has been made.
- 9:31If your mind wanders, return gently to the scene.
- 9:35Do not fight distraction with force.
- 9:37Force is the enemy of this state.
- 9:39Simply return again and again if necessary.
- 9:43With each return you go a little deeper.
- 9:45Some nights the scene will feel vivid and real immediately.
- 9:49Other nights it will feel effortful, flat, like moving
- 9:52furniture in a dark room. Do not interpret the quality of
- 9:56the feeling as evidence of the technique working or failing.
- 10:00The subconscious receives the impression regardless of whether
- 10:04the waking mind is satisfied with the performance.
- 10:07What matters is that you showed up, that you persisted, that you
- 10:11did not go to sleep as the person who wants but as the
- 10:14person who has. I must tell you something about
- 10:17persistence because it is the quality that separates those who
- 10:21crystallize their assumptions from those who spend years
- 10:24wondering why nothing changes. The world does not rearrange
- 10:27itself in response to a single imaginal act, usually.
- 10:32Sometimes it does. I have seen it happen with a
- 10:35speed that leaves the person breathless.
- 10:37But for most desires, in most circumstances, the law requires
- 10:41what I call persistence in the assumption.
- 10:44This does not mean endless effort.
- 10:46It means returning to your scene night after night with the same
- 10:50faithful expectation that the farmer returns, returns to his
- 10:53field after planting. The farmer does not dig up the
- 10:56seed each morning to see if it has sprouted.
- 10:59He knows the law of the harvest. He plants, he waits, he trusts,
- 11:04and in due season what he has planted emerges.
- 11:07You are planting imagination into the soil of the
- 11:09subconscious through the state akin to sleep.
- 11:12And the world, your world, the only world that concerns you,
- 11:16will rearrange itself to conform to what you have planted.
- 11:20The state you occupy determines the world you see.
- 11:23Plant the state of the wish fulfilled.
- 11:25Water it each night at the threshold of sleep, and do not
- 11:29be moved from your assumption by what your senses report in the
- 11:32days that follow. The gap between imaginal act and
- 11:36physical fact is simply the season of growth.
- 11:39It is not evidence of failure. I tell you from my own
- 11:42experience, the law is perfect. It has never failed.
- 11:46When it appears to fail, the cause is always the same.
- 11:50The assumption was not truly inhabited, or it was abandoned
- 11:53before the season of growth was complete.
- 11:56The law itself does not fail. Let us place what we have
- 11:59covered together. You now know the method.
- 12:02You know how to steal the body, how to enter the threshold, how
- 12:06to construct the one specific scene that implies your wish
- 12:09fulfilled, how to feel from the inside rather than observe from
- 12:13the outside. And you know that persistence,
- 12:16faithful, steady, unshaken persistence, is the quality that
- 12:20carries the assumption from imagination into the world you
- 12:24can touch. Now, I'm going to give you the
- 12:26precise application, and then I'm going to guide you through
- 12:29your first session of the state, akin to sleep right here
- 12:33together, before tonight, before you lie down and close your
- 12:37eyes, there is preparation that will serve you well.
- 12:40The first preparation is the scene itself.
- 12:42You must choose it before you attempt the state.
- 12:45Do not try to construct your scene as you are drifting
- 12:48towards sleep. The mind is too loose then, too
- 12:51prone to wandering. Choose your scene now, while you
- 12:54are alert. Choose it deliberately.
- 12:56Ask yourself what is the single image that could only exist if
- 13:00my desire were already a fact? Write it down if you must.
- 13:04Make it specific. Make it sensory.
- 13:07Make it small, not a panorama of your whole new life, but one
- 13:10moment within it, the moment that implies all the rest, the
- 13:14congratulations being offered, the question being asked at the
- 13:18dinner table as though it is normal to ask it.
- 13:21The comfortable weight of the the thing you have been wanting,
- 13:24now simply there. Second, preparation.
- 13:26The approach to sleep itself. In the hour before you lie down,
- 13:30guard your attention. Do not consume content that
- 13:33stirs anxiety, conflict, or fear.
- 13:36Do not rehearse what you do not want.
- 13:38The state you enter sleep in is the state you deepen through the
- 13:42night. Begin to move inward gently as
- 13:44you would approach a flame you do not want to extinguish.
- 13:48Third preparation, the breath. When you lie down and close your
- 13:51eyes, take 3, 3 slow breaths before you begin anything.
- 13:55Not forced, not dramatic, simply 3 slow, complete breaths that
- 13:59signal to the body. We are releasing now.
- 14:02We are done with the day. What begins now is different
- 14:05from what came before. And then you begin your scene.
- 14:09I want to address something practical that many people
- 14:11struggle with. What do you do when doubt arises
- 14:14during the state, When you are lying there inhabiting your
- 14:17scene, and suddenly a thought intrudes?
- 14:20This is foolish. Nothing has changed.
- 14:23This will never work. Do not argue with it, do not try
- 14:26to suppress it. Simply notice it as you would
- 14:29notice a sound from the street outside your window and return
- 14:33your attention to the scene. The doubt is simply the
- 14:36conscious mind doing what it always does, reporting what it
- 14:39observes as real. You are not fighting it, you are
- 14:42simply not giving it your dwelling place.
- 14:45You are choosing moment by moment, where you live in
- 14:48consciousness. Now there is one mistake I must
- 14:51warn you against, because I have seen it undo more people than
- 14:55any other error. It is the mistake of checking
- 14:58after your session of the state, akin to sleep the next morning,
- 15:02or the day after, or the week after.
- 15:04The human tendency is to look for evidence, to examine your
- 15:08outer world, for signs that something is happening, to watch
- 15:11the phone, the mail, the behavior of other people, for
- 15:15proof that the imaginal act is working.
- 15:17Do not do this. The moment you begin checking,
- 15:20you have shifted back into the state of wanting, of not yet
- 15:24having, and that state inhabited with feeling will crystallize
- 15:28its own reality just as surely as the state of the wish
- 15:31fulfilled. What you must cultivate instead
- 15:34is what I would call confident indifference.
- 15:37Not denial of what your senses report, not pretense that
- 15:41conditions have changed when they have not, but a deep
- 15:44settled confidence, like the farmers, that what you have
- 15:47planted is growing, and that the harvest comes in its own right.
- 15:51Season according to a law that is perfect and without
- 15:54exception. Go about your day, live your
- 15:57life, let the imaginal act do its work beneath the surface,
- 16:01and when doubt arises, because it will arise, remind yourself
- 16:05of the law, persist in your assumption, and return each
- 16:08night to your scene. This is the practice, this is
- 16:12the discipline. And I tell you from my own
- 16:14experience, there is no circumstance so fixed, no
- 16:18condition so stubborn, no door so firmly shut, that this
- 16:22practice cannot open it. close your eyes now.
- 16:25Let the body settle. Let the shoulders drop.
- 16:28Let the hands open and rest. Take one breath, let it go
- 16:31slowly. Now bring to mind the scene you
- 16:33have chosen, the one small, specific moment that implies
- 16:37your wish fulfilled. See it from the inside.
- 16:40You are not watching yourself from a distance, you are there,
- 16:43looking out through your own eyes.
- 16:45What do your hands feel? Let them feel it.
- 16:48Now what do you hear? The sounds of that moment, near
- 16:51and familiar. What is the quality of the air
- 16:53around you? Is there light, a particular
- 16:56warmth? Now let the feeling settle in.
- 16:58Not excitement, normalcy. This is your life, this is
- 17:02simply how it is. Now stay in this moment, breathe
- 17:05gently. Let the scene become natural the
- 17:08way familiar rooms become natural.
- 17:10You stop noticing the details because they are simply home.
- 17:14Feel the ease of it, the quiet, the doneness.
- 17:17Stay here as long as feels natural.
- 17:20And when your mind wanders, return gently, without judgment,
- 17:24to this moment, this one small, real moment in your new life.
- 17:28Breathe. You do not need to rush back.
- 17:30Stay here a little longer. This is the state akin to sleep.
- 17:34This is the door I told you about, the woman who came to my
- 17:37lecture in Lowe's Angels, 41 years old, eleven years of
- 17:42wanting arms folded in the back row.
- 17:44She tried what I taught her that night.
- 17:47Not perfectly. She told me so herself.
- 17:49The first night the scene felt strange, effortful.
- 17:53She drifted into sleep, still wondering if she was doing it
- 17:56correctly. But she returned night after
- 17:58night, and she cultivated gradually the feeling not of
- 18:02wanting a husband, but of being a woman whose husband was simply
- 18:06there. She stopped rehearsing the
- 18:07absence. She began began in the threshold
- 18:10of sleep to rehearse the presents.
- 18:12Seven months later she married a man she had known for years but
- 18:16I've never truly seen, because she had not before occupied the
- 18:20state in which he could appear to her as what he truly was.
- 18:24She told me I did not find him. I became the woman he was
- 18:28already looking for. That is the law.
- 18:30You do not acquire what you want by trying harder in the outer
- 18:33world. You crystallize it by inhabiting
- 18:36the inner state as though it were already so.
- 18:38The world, the world must then rearrange itself to conform.
- 18:42It has no other choice. This is not poetry.
- 18:45This is the law of consciousness.
- 18:47And it works every time without exception, there to assume the
- 18:51feeling of the wish fulfilled tonight, not tomorrow, not when
- 18:54the conditions improve. Tonight, at the threshold of
- 18:58sleep, inhabit the scene you have chosen and let your
- 19:01consciousness do what it was built to do.
- 19:03The most important conversation you will ever have is the one
- 19:07you hold with yourself in those final moments before sleep takes
- 19:10you. Choose that conversation
- 19:12carefully. Persist in your assumption.
- 19:15The world must conform to it. If these teachings speak to
- 19:18something within you, you will find more of them here.
- 19:22Return when you are ready. I will take you deeper.
- 19:25There is always more to discover.
