- 0:29Speaker 1: place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. What Up, Twelves,
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is Hawg Talk Recap Edition. I'm Michael Bampas along
- 0:38Speaker 1: with Nasa Chelby. The Seahawks beat the Washington football team
- 0:41Speaker 1: twenty to fifteen, and like we do every Monday, let's
- 0:45Speaker 1: get a different perspective and talk to Big Ray. Is
- 0:47Speaker 1: getting these trenches. It's time to go inside the trenches
- 0:52Speaker 1: with former Seahawk Ray Roberts. Big Ray. What's up, man,
- 0:58Speaker 1: Ugly win? People are criticizing this football team over a win,
- 1:02Speaker 1: but you play many years in the league, A win
- 1:04Speaker 1: is a win. You'll correct things, but you'll you'll take
- 1:06Speaker 1: the w and you know, the way I look at it,
- 1:09Speaker 1: Big Mike, is that there are no ugly wins. Every
- 1:12Speaker 1: win is beautiful. Just because you know it didn't look
- 1:15Speaker 1: like the perfectly painted picture doesn't mean that it's not beautiful,
- 1:19Speaker 1: So you'll take them at this time of the year
- 1:22Speaker 1: anyway you can get him. It's kind of like that,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you know, the playoffs has kind of started already, so
- 1:26Speaker 1: it's kind of like the surviving advanced mode. So I'm
- 1:28Speaker 1: cool with it. Yep, I'm with you, man. Let's get
- 1:31Speaker 1: Ryan into the run game. I mean, Russell had a
- 1:33Speaker 1: big run of thirty eight yard run, Carlos Hyde had
- 1:35Speaker 1: a big run, Chris Carson touched the football, even Penny
- 1:38Speaker 1: got involved. What did you see out of this run game?
- 1:41Speaker 1: And what do you think we need to see more of?
- 1:43Speaker 1: You know, what I saw is kind of what I've
- 1:46Speaker 1: been saying all years that this offense works much better
- 1:50Speaker 1: when you have the running game. And so Chris Carson
- 1:54Speaker 1: had his you know, normal fourteen attempts in sixty sixty
- 1:57Speaker 1: or so yards, and you combine that with the fifty
- 2:00Speaker 1: five yards from Carlos Hid, they both, you know, together
- 2:03Speaker 1: average probably a little over five yards to carry. And
- 2:05Speaker 1: so I think when you do that, it allows the
- 2:08Speaker 1: offense to stay on schedule. Uh, it also energizes that
- 2:11Speaker 1: offensive line man like they when you when you get
- 2:14Speaker 1: to make a defender. So last week I talked a
- 2:16Speaker 1: lot about this offense making the defense defend the entire field,
- 2:20Speaker 1: whereas an offensive linement, you want the defensive linement to
- 2:23Speaker 1: have to play the entire game. And so I want
- 2:26Speaker 1: to be able to run the ball to make him
- 2:28Speaker 1: have to defend the run, and I want him and
- 2:30Speaker 1: then and then also throw the ball. And so with
- 2:33Speaker 1: this team that likes to get out to the quarterback,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I'm telling you, Big Mike, and I said it in
- 2:37Speaker 1: the pre game. I've never played against a team that
- 2:40Speaker 1: had a lot of pass rushers who liked the noise
- 2:43Speaker 1: of the running game. And so I think the running
- 2:45Speaker 1: game really neutralized that pass to us. I feel that.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And speaking of the pass rus man, this offensive line
- 2:51Speaker 1: had a guy, Missy hat Shell missing, got the tackle
- 2:53Speaker 1: spot Cedric filled in for him. Didn't allow a sack
- 2:56Speaker 1: against the team who came into this game having forty sacks.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Chase with five and a half, Montes Sweat with seven.
- 3:02Speaker 1: What was your overall feel of the performance of this
- 3:04Speaker 1: offensive line against one of the best d lines in
- 3:07Speaker 1: the league. You know, they did a great job, Mike,
- 3:09Speaker 1: And uh, you know, I just went back. I haven't,
- 3:11Speaker 1: like you know, been able to see the whole twenty two,
- 3:13Speaker 1: but just looking at the game recap last night, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 1: Cedric to me played with a lot more confident that
- 3:20Speaker 1: he played with a lot better technique. He seemed like
- 3:23Speaker 1: he was more sure of himself about what he was
- 3:25Speaker 1: trying to get accomplished on the different run plays or
- 3:28Speaker 1: past places. He's not the same players as Sale shows
- 3:31Speaker 1: more powerful, Uh, Cedric a little bit more athletic, and
- 3:34Speaker 1: so he used his athleticism better in that game. And
- 3:37Speaker 1: then I mean, you can't speak enough to Dwayne Brown,
- 3:39Speaker 1: like you know, a lot of people are thinking about
- 3:41Speaker 1: case Young and all the hype that has come with him,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and and Dwayne Brown just eats into his position and
- 3:47Speaker 1: played the game did he normally plays. The dude is
- 3:49Speaker 1: an All Pro, first team All Pro. To me, he's
- 3:52Speaker 1: an all Pro dude, all Pro player. And uh, and
- 3:54Speaker 1: it showed even uh, you know, yesterday just kind of
- 3:57Speaker 1: training the rookie on what it's like to go up
- 3:59Speaker 1: against a big and so I thought they did a
- 4:01Speaker 1: very good job. Unfortunately, you know, Russell didn't have all
- 4:03Speaker 1: the numbers, but a lot of that was like some
- 4:05Speaker 1: of the coverage and some of the game plan just
- 4:08Speaker 1: running to keep them off balanced. Let's stand this offensive line.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Mikey Potty went out with a neck injury. Guysman banged
- 4:14Speaker 1: up the last couple of years. Jordan Simmon comes in.
- 4:17Speaker 1: How do you think he looked? And how important are
- 4:19Speaker 1: these drests for Jordan in the future. You know what,
- 4:21Speaker 1: I think the thing that itself Jordan this year is
- 4:24Speaker 1: that they've rotated him in from the very beginning. So
- 4:28Speaker 1: even when your Potty was healthy around your midway through
- 4:31Speaker 1: the first quarter, early second quarter, Jordan would come into
- 4:34Speaker 1: games and get you know, a couple of series. And
- 4:36Speaker 1: so I think having him getting used to plan on
- 4:39Speaker 1: a consistent basis versus having to just come in cold
- 4:42Speaker 1: as a backup and try to get ready has helped
- 4:45Speaker 1: him a lot. He brings a lot more athleticism to
- 4:47Speaker 1: the position. Mike is a much bigger dude, like just
- 4:52Speaker 1: he just takes up more in space, but Simmons brings
- 4:55Speaker 1: more athleticism youthfulness helped to it, and he's always been
- 4:59Speaker 1: like their type of player, like a real strongmawler, you know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: put me into a phone move, let me fight with
- 5:04Speaker 1: a dude type player. And so I've been really impressed
- 5:07Speaker 1: impressed with this play. Unfortunately, the the Washington football team
- 5:12Speaker 1: made some ajustice in the second half to kind of
- 5:14Speaker 1: shut the offense down and apart along with just the
- 5:17Speaker 1: way the play calling and the way we're playing the game,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and so they didn't really get to expand the running
- 5:22Speaker 1: game the way they wanted to. But I've been really
- 5:24Speaker 1: pleased with Simmons play. And then I was super impressed
- 5:27Speaker 1: without Cedric played, because even Cedric, you would think they
- 5:30Speaker 1: were putting a whole lot of help over there, and
- 5:32Speaker 1: a lot of times he was blocked in sweat by himself.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Let's get to next week, man, you got the Rams
- 5:37Speaker 1: coming up this for the NFC West Championship. Now, the
- 5:41Speaker 1: last time the Hawks played the Rams, they didn't have
- 5:43Speaker 1: Carlos High, they didn't have Carson r Posing. So they're
- 5:46Speaker 1: gonna have these guys available. Is that gonna be key
- 5:49Speaker 1: in winning this football game on Sunday? I think so,
- 5:52Speaker 1: because you know we've talked about the last couple of weeks,
- 5:54Speaker 1: is uh this deep. This offense has to make the
- 5:58Speaker 1: defense doings that they don't want to do. So they
- 6:03Speaker 1: want to get after the quarterback. Aaron Donald wants to
- 6:05Speaker 1: rush the quarterback, Floyd wants to rush the quarterback. That's
- 6:08Speaker 1: kind of what they want to do. And they want
- 6:09Speaker 1: to sit back and play coverage and look for turnovers.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I think you have to establish the run game so
- 6:15Speaker 1: that they too have to defend everybody. Aaron Donald's going
- 6:18Speaker 1: to be a build to the something to deal with
- 6:21Speaker 1: no matter what path a run. But I think you
- 6:24Speaker 1: give your offensive line a better chance of having more
- 6:27Speaker 1: success if they're able to run the ball. And quite honestly,
- 6:30Speaker 1: like I'm cool with how they're trying to ease, you know,
- 6:33Speaker 1: keep you know, Carson to us a snap count, but
- 6:36Speaker 1: I think his fourteen carries, which he's just been kind
- 6:38Speaker 1: of averaging all year when he's played, I think that
- 6:41Speaker 1: needs to bump up to maybe twenty and twenty two
- 6:43Speaker 1: carries this week and get him over that century mark.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And I think that would really make a difference in
- 6:47Speaker 1: the ball game. What do you think about Penny? How
- 6:50Speaker 1: how should they use Penny? How many touch does you
- 6:51Speaker 1: think you should get I'm like Pete, I listen to
- 6:54Speaker 1: your interview with him earlier today, and I just think that,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know, easing a man get his five ten touches,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you know, too bad they couldn't stay ahead of the
- 7:03Speaker 1: change when he was in this week to get a
- 7:04Speaker 1: little bit more in the action. But also like just
- 7:07Speaker 1: getting him out on screens and stuff. He's a fast dude.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Like get him out of space with a few blockers
- 7:11Speaker 1: in front of him. Let him use that kind of speed, uh,
- 7:14Speaker 1: you know, to to make a play that way, But
- 7:16Speaker 1: just ease him in five or ten plays and then
- 7:18Speaker 1: if he if the game dictates a few more than that,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and then get him a few more than that. The
- 7:23Speaker 1: Hawks ran a few more smoke screens this game that
- 7:26Speaker 1: we've seen the last couple of weeks. Actually, they ran
- 7:28Speaker 1: a few more smoke swings than we're used to seeing.
- 7:30Speaker 1: M Do you like that as a as like a
- 7:32Speaker 1: third option for a run. Yeah, I'm glad you asked
- 7:35Speaker 1: that question, because there's two things I think that I like.
- 7:38Speaker 1: One is those smoke screens that kind of frustrates the
- 7:42Speaker 1: pass rush because they they they're they're trying to get
- 7:44Speaker 1: to the quarterback and the balls out of the quarterback's
- 7:46Speaker 1: hand before they can even get their hand off the ground.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So that helps, you know, frustrate that pass rush slows
- 7:51Speaker 1: it down. And the other thing too might get should
- 7:53Speaker 1: become a consistent part of the run game. Is the
- 7:57Speaker 1: fly sweet using penny hard or swaying. Just make them
- 8:01Speaker 1: part of the run games, because that makes the defensive
- 8:04Speaker 1: line that the linebackers slowed down just enough that if
- 8:06Speaker 1: you're running the zone behind that you allow those double
- 8:09Speaker 1: teams to get established and you're allowed the guard or
- 8:11Speaker 1: the tackle to get up to the second level. And
- 8:13Speaker 1: I think if they made that a consistent part, even
- 8:15Speaker 1: just using that motion after running it two or three times,
- 8:19Speaker 1: running the fly sweet two or three times, and did
- 8:21Speaker 1: you use that motion, it's enough to make the defense
- 8:24Speaker 1: to have to hesitate for just a split second. That
- 8:26Speaker 1: didn't allow those blocks to develop. And so I like
- 8:29Speaker 1: the success we've had with the fly sweets. Even if
- 8:32Speaker 1: you just pick five or six yards, it's enough to
- 8:35Speaker 1: keep the defense on us. I'm with you. I like
- 8:37Speaker 1: the game plan. Let's draw something up and then we'll
- 8:39Speaker 1: send it to Pete on like a Wednesday. See if
- 8:41Speaker 1: you can put that in there. We got the answer, brother,
- 8:45Speaker 1: They just need to listen to it, all right, Rail
- 8:48Speaker 1: as always, Man, appreciate you taking time. I'll talk to
- 8:51Speaker 1: you soon, dude, Yes, sir, see you later. Book. All right, Well,
- 8:55Speaker 1: you know what, now, let's bring getting nasaid Choby and
- 8:58Speaker 1: talk about what really happened in this See what happened
- 9:01Speaker 1: at first, what had happened was undo. What had happened
- 9:09Speaker 1: was the Seahawks won another football game. Go across the country,
- 9:13Speaker 1: take on the Washington football team, beat them twenty to fifteen.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And here's the deal, man. I love how you brought
- 9:17Speaker 1: it up with Ray, you brought it up with coach
- 9:19Speaker 1: on the radio port game this morning. There's no side
- 9:22Speaker 1: points the NFL. This isn't the old BCS, this isn't
- 9:25Speaker 1: the college football playoffs, how much, how good your wins look,
- 9:28Speaker 1: how badger losses look, none of that. And the National
- 9:30Speaker 1: Football League it's all about wins. So I don't really care, man, Yes,
- 9:33Speaker 1: because the Seahawks have played a cleaner game and some
- 9:36Speaker 1: fasts of the game, absolutely no question about it. Did
- 9:38Speaker 1: they play really well in certain aspects? Of course they did.
- 9:41Speaker 1: But to me, wins or wins and nothing is more
- 9:44Speaker 1: paints that picture better than what happened to the Los
- 9:48Speaker 1: Angeles Rams against the Jets. Everyone had something to say
- 9:52Speaker 1: last league, you only beat them forty one three, you're
- 9:54Speaker 1: supposed to blah blah blah blah, this and that. Well,
- 9:57Speaker 1: guess what, that's why they play the game's pump. So
- 10:02Speaker 1: I show up. Can't just show up. Can't just say, oh,
- 10:05Speaker 1: we're playing the Jets, so it's all good, and you can't.
- 10:07Speaker 1: You couldn't just say we're just playing the Washington football team,
- 10:10Speaker 1: because let me remind you, this is probably the top
- 10:13Speaker 1: two three defensive line in the league. Not only do
- 10:15Speaker 1: they have Chase Yum and Monte Sweat, they got three
- 10:18Speaker 1: for other guys who can get after the quarterback. And
- 10:20Speaker 1: I think that's what we saw in this game. The
- 10:22Speaker 1: first two and a half quarters, Hawks had things going.
- 10:26Speaker 1: They're moving the football, and the second quarter they come out,
- 10:28Speaker 1: they drive down the field, Russell has a big rum
- 10:30Speaker 1: and you feel like things are going well. But teams adjust,
- 10:34Speaker 1: and I think that's what we saw with this football team. Now,
- 10:36Speaker 1: Chase Young and Montes Sweat didn't have a sack, but
- 10:39Speaker 1: they were still affecting the pocket and the run game. Yeah, no,
- 10:43Speaker 1: And that's the thing, like you mentioned adjustments, because the
- 10:45Speaker 1: Seahawks were doing from that Carlos high touchdown early in
- 10:49Speaker 1: the third quarter, they kind of have the Seahawks number,
- 10:51Speaker 1: and the Seahawks in that second half, if you look
- 10:54Speaker 1: at their drive tart, they went touchdown and then they
- 10:56Speaker 1: went punt, punt, interception punt at the game, so they
- 10:59Speaker 1: really didn't get much going. They had one drive where
- 11:03Speaker 1: they were driving the ball there at leasing field goal
- 11:05Speaker 1: rains and Russ had that flukey interception or he's trying
- 11:07Speaker 1: to I think he's trying to throw to Carsoner's hide
- 11:10Speaker 1: or someone on the sideline sweat tips hit they make
- 11:12Speaker 1: a play interception. Really unfortunate. That was kind of the
- 11:15Speaker 1: only drive they had going in the second half. But
- 11:17Speaker 1: you also got to look at two on another series,
- 11:20Speaker 1: we could have had a first down on a three
- 11:22Speaker 1: and out and the ball went through Hide's hand on
- 11:24Speaker 1: the sideline. So they adjusted, they did some things, but overall,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm super impressed with what this team was able to
- 11:30Speaker 1: do going against the front that we knew was good.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That most people who really watched the film knew how
- 11:34Speaker 1: good they were and how good this defense was. So
- 11:36Speaker 1: I was still impressed the way overall how this offense played. Yep,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I'm all all right with it. Now I'm even better
- 11:42Speaker 1: with how this defense play man to end the game
- 11:45Speaker 1: once again, Dunlap just grown man's a grown man, bench
- 11:49Speaker 1: presses him, gets to the quarterback for a sack. Callier
- 11:51Speaker 1: had a sack late in the game. Benson Mayoa had
- 11:53Speaker 1: a near sack. It's nice to see this defense closed
- 11:57Speaker 1: team's album because you're gonna need this defense to do
- 11:59Speaker 1: that you mentioned earlier. There's no style points in this league.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'll win a game seven to six. We'll correct it afterwards,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but if we have one more point than another team,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I will take it. But it's even better to see
- 12:10Speaker 1: this defensive line specifically closed games out well, especially because
- 12:14Speaker 1: they didn't. They had trouble getting into the quarterback for
- 12:16Speaker 1: most of the day. It wasn't like they had nineteen
- 12:18Speaker 1: sacks and there get after. So it was tough throughout
- 12:21Speaker 1: the middle, especially in the third quarter. I feel like
- 12:22Speaker 1: we were on the field a lot. We were on
- 12:24Speaker 1: a fourteen play scoring drive, then the offense went three
- 12:27Speaker 1: and out and they're right back on the field. So
- 12:28Speaker 1: they're on the field for the majority of the second half,
- 12:30Speaker 1: especially in that fourth quarter, but when the game was
- 12:32Speaker 1: on the line, as they've done many times this year,
- 12:34Speaker 1: whether it was against the Rams or excuse me, whether
- 12:37Speaker 1: it's against the Patriots, whether it's against the Cowboys, whether
- 12:41Speaker 1: it's against the Vikings, this team made plays defensively when
- 12:44Speaker 1: they absolutely had to. So it's great to see Carlos Stunlap,
- 12:46Speaker 1: who's been an unbelievab addition to this football team. LJ. Collier,
- 12:50Speaker 1: who's taking a lot of heat, who just keeps getting
- 12:52Speaker 1: after in ment to Mayo. So it's great to see
- 12:53Speaker 1: those guys get after it and this D line because
- 12:55Speaker 1: we're definitely gonna need them down stretch, and we can't
- 12:57Speaker 1: ignore the things that happen on offense. I think they
- 13:00Speaker 1: needs to get better on third downs. There were five
- 13:02Speaker 1: or twelve on third downs. Meanwhile the Washington football team
- 13:04Speaker 1: ten for seventeen nas. I think if they fix third downs,
- 13:09Speaker 1: this offense looks that much better because it's all about
- 13:12Speaker 1: keeping drives alive, and when you do that, you do
- 13:14Speaker 1: that on third downs. If you're if you're high, if
- 13:17Speaker 1: you're completing a hYP percentage of third downs, that means
- 13:19Speaker 1: you're eating up the clock. As well, you're taking opportunities
- 13:22Speaker 1: away from that other team. Yes, Russell didn't have his
- 13:26Speaker 1: greatest day when it comes to stats, but it felt right.
- 13:29Speaker 1: It felt like he was doing what he needed to
- 13:31Speaker 1: do to win. He was eighteen to twenty seven one
- 13:32Speaker 1: hundred and twenty one yards through an interception. I feel
- 13:35Speaker 1: like that was just a better play by Montest Sweat.
- 13:37Speaker 1: It got his hands up, knocked the ball. Things are
- 13:40Speaker 1: gonna happen when you do that. But it's all about
- 13:43Speaker 1: the defense. No style points, and we still got some playmakers.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Let's see what we got playmakers. Well, there's only one
- 14:00Speaker 1: place to start, in my opinion, and that's on defense.
- 14:03Speaker 1: D J Reid, my guy was falling yesterday. Six tackles,
- 14:08Speaker 1: three passes defended, got one beautiful interception, And think about
- 14:11Speaker 1: DJ Reid. Obviously everyone knows a story. By now, he
- 14:14Speaker 1: got hurt. He's playing for the forty nine ers. He
- 14:16Speaker 1: heard his pack John Lynch since said hey, we don't
- 14:18Speaker 1: think he'll be able to play this year. We're gonna
- 14:19Speaker 1: cut you if we can get you back. He does
- 14:21Speaker 1: not clear waivers. John Schneider picks him up after doing
- 14:24Speaker 1: some great scouting within the pro personnel department. He comes
- 14:27Speaker 1: to this team, comes back in his first game against
- 14:29Speaker 1: the forty nine ers, gets a pick, plays well, but
- 14:32Speaker 1: I honestly bump. I don't know where this football team
- 14:34Speaker 1: would be without DJ read. The secondary's been banged up
- 14:37Speaker 1: all season long. You've had injuries to Quit and Dunbar,
- 14:40Speaker 1: Jamal Adams digs, We lost Marquis Blair, Hugomadi has been
- 14:44Speaker 1: banging So there's been so many injuries throughout that secondary.
- 14:46Speaker 1: So DJ Reid and honestly, for me, I don't know
- 14:49Speaker 1: how you take him out of starting lineup. Way he's
- 14:51Speaker 1: playing right now, I leave him in there. I know
- 14:53Speaker 1: you're paying Dunbar a whole bunch of money, but he's
- 14:56Speaker 1: got to earn his spot. DJ three passes defended, one interception.
- 15:00Speaker 1: His interception interception was such a savvy play. He's dropping
- 15:03Speaker 1: down to the third, his receiver runs a post, passes
- 15:06Speaker 1: him off to the safety, seas the crossing round jumps
- 15:09Speaker 1: on the football. I asked Pete earlier, how does he
- 15:11Speaker 1: feel about his instincts. He loves his instincts. Okay, some
- 15:15Speaker 1: more playmakers Chris Carson and Carlos Carson had fifteen carry
- 15:18Speaker 1: sixty three yards two receptions for six yards. Hyde had
- 15:22Speaker 1: two carries for fifty five yards and a touchdown, a
- 15:25Speaker 1: great touchdown that we're gonna talk about later in the
- 15:27Speaker 1: Coach's Corner, and big ups Rashad Penny. Rashad got back
- 15:31Speaker 1: in the game first time plans is December eight, twenty nineteen.
- 15:35Speaker 1: He had a couple of carries, one anything special, but
- 15:38Speaker 1: he's got to feel a pop of the pass. He's
- 15:39Speaker 1: got to get back in the game. Overall, his team
- 15:42Speaker 1: rushed for what one hundred eighty eight rushing yards or
- 15:44Speaker 1: something like that, their second highest total of the year.
- 15:49Speaker 1: I believe they had two hundred once or twice this year.
- 15:52Speaker 1: But nice to see the run game getting going in
- 15:54Speaker 1: all three of the backs we thought we were gonna
- 15:57Speaker 1: feature this year getting touches. Oh, it's great to see
- 16:00Speaker 1: all those guys. That's what we thought this running back
- 16:01Speaker 1: room is gonna look like, not knowing when Rashad was
- 16:04Speaker 1: going to come back, but this is what we signed
- 16:05Speaker 1: up for. We want to see Chris Carson, his hard
- 16:07Speaker 1: nose run. He runs the football. Carlos Hyde is a
- 16:09Speaker 1: great change up, and then Penny does things that those
- 16:12Speaker 1: guys don't do when he's fully healthy, his speed and
- 16:14Speaker 1: some of the cuts that he makes so great to
- 16:16Speaker 1: see all of them out there balling out and they
- 16:19Speaker 1: went to have got all those yards if it wasn't
- 16:20Speaker 1: from the men up front. Man, let's talk about this
- 16:22Speaker 1: offensive line allowed zero sacks for the second game in
- 16:25Speaker 1: a row, which is crazy because before last week there
- 16:27Speaker 1: had not been a game Russell hadn't been sacked, and
- 16:30Speaker 1: all we heard about all week was how good the
- 16:32Speaker 1: Washington defensive line was. Right, And that's not a lie.
- 16:34Speaker 1: They're all first round picks. They're all incredibly talented football players.
- 16:38Speaker 1: The Seahawks did this without starting right tackle Brandon Show
- 16:42Speaker 1: for most of the game, for the whole game, and
- 16:44Speaker 1: then Mikey Potti missed most of the game. So rady
- 16:46Speaker 1: to see Jordan Simmons step up. Cedric Boy, he step up.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And this line's playing one that's confidence, and I think
- 16:52Speaker 1: I think they need that, especially once again going up
- 16:54Speaker 1: against the Rams. We'll talk so much about the Rams
- 16:56Speaker 1: this week, but the offensive line is playing their best football.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Anytime Russell stays out right and doesn't get sack is
- 17:02Speaker 1: a good day in my book. Keep that jersey clean.
- 17:06Speaker 1: You want your quarterback walking off the field with no
- 17:08Speaker 1: grass stains, and he probably had a grass stand because
- 17:10Speaker 1: he ran and he slid, but it wasn't from pressure
- 17:13Speaker 1: from the defensive line. Big up to that offensive line,
- 17:16Speaker 1: do what you gotta do next, playmaker Jamal Adams. All
- 17:19Speaker 1: he does is make tackles, nine tackles, one tackle for loss,
- 17:22Speaker 1: one sack, putting him over double digits on the year.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Where's he at now? He's at ten and a half
- 17:27Speaker 1: right now tonight? Yeah, Hey, Jamal Adams doing and his sack,
- 17:32Speaker 1: he was on the other side of the field. He
- 17:34Speaker 1: wasn't even supposed to be in that play. He runs
- 17:36Speaker 1: the receiver as receiver runs a quarterback down. Um. Jamal
- 17:41Speaker 1: Adams is a special player. And I think people really
- 17:45Speaker 1: need to realize what the Hawks got in this guy.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Everyone before the season, not everyone, A lot of people. Oh,
- 17:50Speaker 1: two first rounders, that's too much. Do you still feel
- 17:53Speaker 1: that way? If you do, I don't I need you
- 17:56Speaker 1: to take the see aw Jersey All. I think it
- 17:58Speaker 1: was worth it, no question about. Here's the thing, go
- 18:00Speaker 1: draft somebody. You're not gonna draft anyone in the first
- 18:02Speaker 1: round this year on defense is going to be as
- 18:04Speaker 1: impactful as Jamal Adams is for the Seahawks right now.
- 18:07Speaker 1: So love it. I love his enthusiasm, his excitement after
- 18:10Speaker 1: the game, getting the postseason for the first time. That
- 18:13Speaker 1: everyone here in the Pacific Northwest who's been falling the
- 18:16Speaker 1: team since, you know, the early two thousands has been
- 18:18Speaker 1: really spoiled with how many times we've been to the postseason.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Don't take it for granted, don't take wins for granted.
- 18:24Speaker 1: And it's great to see guys like Jamal and Carlos
- 18:27Speaker 1: Dunlap who don't go to the playoffs every year, and
- 18:30Speaker 1: for Jamal's his first time ever. So we got some
- 18:32Speaker 1: special going on over here, and Jamal Adams is a
- 18:34Speaker 1: big reason for that. Defensively, Less was balling nass. We
- 18:37Speaker 1: had to wags. You know, a typical Bobby Wagner's stat
- 18:40Speaker 1: line thirteen tackles, one past defended. I think Bobby does
- 18:44Speaker 1: a lot of stuff that doesn't get recognized. Some people
- 18:46Speaker 1: might say, oh, well, he's not making on the flash
- 18:48Speaker 1: plays he used to. Well, he's doing what they're asking
- 18:50Speaker 1: him to do in this defense. They're asking him to
- 18:52Speaker 1: make plays, they're asking him to stop the run, They're
- 18:53Speaker 1: asking him to do a lot of stuff in coverage
- 18:56Speaker 1: That is really hard for a middle linebacker to do,
- 18:58Speaker 1: play sideline to sideline. So Bobby's doing his thing, and
- 19:00Speaker 1: then you go to the defensive lineman. We've been talking
- 19:02Speaker 1: about them a little bit, but LJ. Coller, Carlos Dunlap,
- 19:06Speaker 1: Benson Mayo that final drive sack sack and the Mayo
- 19:10Speaker 1: would have had a sack forced the holding penalty. Ends
- 19:12Speaker 1: of the game. Can't say enough about those boys upfront,
- 19:15Speaker 1: boys up front getting it done. B wax on it.
- 19:17Speaker 1: It's crazy. How how if the boys upfront ball out,
- 19:21Speaker 1: that second level of balls out, then that third level
- 19:23Speaker 1: can do their thing as well. Hey, it's all correlated, folks.
- 19:26Speaker 1: You need all three levels to play. Well, that's what
- 19:29Speaker 1: we've been seeing these past few weeks. Or let's talk
- 19:32Speaker 1: about the receiver room. DK had five for forty three
- 19:36Speaker 1: on six targets and man had a scary moment we
- 19:39Speaker 1: went up for football in the end zone. Hyper extinted
- 19:41Speaker 1: that knee. It's almost like he hyper extinted his knee.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Then his chest almost touched his knee because he fell.
- 19:47Speaker 1: For this dude, Now only is he swollen, he's flexible.
- 19:51Speaker 1: So big up to your yoga trainer. You're your personal trainer,
- 19:54Speaker 1: whoever you are working with. DK. They got you out
- 19:56Speaker 1: of that sticky situation. We got Tyler Lockett four for
- 20:00Speaker 1: thirty four yards. He needs eighty yards to get a thousand.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I almost feel like I want to force this man
- 20:06Speaker 1: the ball. They want him to give his thousand yards.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Let's make that happen. Pete Guy. Jacob Alister had two
- 20:12Speaker 1: for seventeen and a touchdown. His route during his touchdown
- 20:16Speaker 1: which is him sitting down and wrote so far and
- 20:18Speaker 1: a fastball. He probably shouldn't have got that bull honesty,
- 20:21Speaker 1: like he kind of brought his guy towards him. But
- 20:24Speaker 1: when you got a patre on the mound tossing heat,
- 20:26Speaker 1: you're good. David Moore had two for ten, Carlos Hide
- 20:29Speaker 1: had two for a Chris Carson had two for six.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Freddie Swain, you only have one, but he keeps popping
- 20:34Speaker 1: up on the stat sheet, Freddy, keep doing your thing, baby,
- 20:37Speaker 1: All right now, we're gonna break down and play him
- 20:39Speaker 1: the coach's quarner. Carlos Hide had a fifty yard touchdown
- 20:43Speaker 1: run giving the ball off to Hide and he breaks
- 20:46Speaker 1: free inside the forty down to the thirty. He's on
- 20:48Speaker 1: the run. Twenty fifteen ten. He's gonna go in touchdown.
- 20:52Speaker 1: She huks Chris Carson loosened him up and Carlos Hide
- 20:56Speaker 1: makes some pain as Carlos takes a touchdown in from
- 21:00Speaker 1: fifty yards out extend their lead. On this opening drive
- 21:05Speaker 1: of the second half nineteen to three, Carlos Hide water run.
- 21:12Speaker 1: So the Hawks come out on a big boy formation
- 21:13Speaker 1: and got two tight ends to the top of the formation.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Two receivers down at the bottom. Got excuse me, Jacob
- 21:19Speaker 1: Hollister goes in most Now. Jacob Hollister is not known
- 21:21Speaker 1: for his blocking, but he delivers a great block here.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It looks like a zone concept. What really makes this
- 21:27Speaker 1: thing work? I want you to look at the right guard,
- 21:30Speaker 1: right guard? Is that see the ninety right guard? Seven
- 21:32Speaker 1: the right tackle. Excuse me a boy, he doubles down
- 21:35Speaker 1: on that three take, gets to the linebacker, cleans that up.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Now Jacob Hollister fires around. He emotions to the left
- 21:43Speaker 1: side of the formation. Then when the ball stamps, he
- 21:45Speaker 1: cuts back to the right and helps a boy he boom.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Then he hits another guy and the rest is Carlos
- 21:51Speaker 1: Hide makes a great cut, gets his knees up. He says, Look,
- 21:54Speaker 1: I can make big plays too, That's why you brought
- 21:57Speaker 1: me here. This was a huge play in the game. Yeah, dude,
- 22:00Speaker 1: I think you nailed on the head. I think this
- 22:02Speaker 1: is exactly what when he draw plays up in the
- 22:03Speaker 1: run game, That's exactly what Mike Salari does every single week.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Everyone doing their job. And the thing of that also
- 22:09Speaker 1: love about this too. Russell had a big run earlier
- 22:11Speaker 1: in that game, and you look at Sweat, who's the
- 22:14Speaker 1: left defensive end on the defense's left. He is so
- 22:17Speaker 1: enamored with getting sacks. He runs straight up field with
- 22:20Speaker 1: all eyes on Russell hoping it's a play action where
- 22:22Speaker 1: Russell keeps the ball gets completely out of position because
- 22:25Speaker 1: that hole should not be that big. Even with how
- 22:28Speaker 1: good everyone was blocking this, Lely does a great job
- 22:30Speaker 1: of pushing. I believe that's a corner linebacker blitz on
- 22:33Speaker 1: the outside outside and then Carlos side. The thing I
- 22:35Speaker 1: love about this is Carlos Hide almost looks like he's jogging.
- 22:39Speaker 1: When I watched this lie but I was like, man,
- 22:40Speaker 1: this look like he's moving. But then I watched the
- 22:42Speaker 1: backside corner who's in a full pursuit and he is
- 22:45Speaker 1: hauling and Carlos side just kind of glides right by
- 22:48Speaker 1: him into the end zone. So great to see Carlos
- 22:50Speaker 1: high get get, you know, getting some work into He's
- 22:52Speaker 1: been working hard this year. He's been banged up. He
- 22:55Speaker 1: had a thousand yards last year with Houston, so it's
- 22:57Speaker 1: good to see him getting the action deceptive speed. Those
- 23:00Speaker 1: are the worst ones where it looks like they're not moving.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Then you realize, I gotta get on my horse. That's
- 23:05Speaker 1: what Carls I did to that dB. He has to
- 23:07Speaker 1: get on his horse. Eat and once again for the
- 23:10Speaker 1: tenth time this year, we get to get in the
- 23:12Speaker 1: greatest formation of all time. Here comes the Seahawk offense
- 23:17Speaker 1: on to the field and the Vikings defense trudging out
- 23:20Speaker 1: there knowing that one kneel down and the Seahawks are
- 23:25Speaker 1: gonna wind the clock down and win this one. It's
- 23:27Speaker 1: the victory formation on Hawk Talk. Victory formation. It is
- 23:33Speaker 1: the best formation in football, and I love it because
- 23:35Speaker 1: we get to see it for the tenth time this year.
- 23:38Speaker 1: The Jets in New York got to experience it for
- 23:40Speaker 1: the first time this season, so shout out to them
- 23:42Speaker 1: for helping the Seahawks in the NCY West. But it's
- 23:44Speaker 1: what it is. The Seahawks came in, they took care business.
- 23:46Speaker 1: They beat a team they were supposed to beat. They've
- 23:48Speaker 1: done that twice last two weeks. Washington is way better
- 23:51Speaker 1: than people giving credit for the Seahawks. Knew that, came
- 23:53Speaker 1: in with a great game plan, not worried about stats,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and got the job done. Yes, and that run game
- 23:59Speaker 1: got going to the second week in a row. They
- 24:00Speaker 1: rushed for over one hundred and seventy that's what we're
- 24:03Speaker 1: looking for. We know Russ is gonna do a thing.
- 24:05Speaker 1: We know DK and Lockett are gonna have their games
- 24:07Speaker 1: where they just get or done. But it's nice to
- 24:10Speaker 1: see the big boys up front protect and provide holes
- 24:13Speaker 1: for these running backs to get loose. And then you
- 24:16Speaker 1: go to defense. Man they struggle a little bit down
- 24:18Speaker 1: the stretch, but we're dominant in the first half to
- 24:20Speaker 1: get the Seahawks a double digit lead, and then when
- 24:23Speaker 1: the game was on the line, they did exactly what
- 24:25Speaker 1: they're supposed to do, get it done. Almost three sacks
- 24:28Speaker 1: in a row end of the game. It was great
- 24:30Speaker 1: to see DJ Reid did his thing. He had three
- 24:33Speaker 1: passes defended, one interception. All he doesn't make plays right corner,
- 24:37Speaker 1: left corner, nickel pump return doesn't matter this guy. I
- 24:41Speaker 1: feel life has found a spot on this team. No
- 24:44Speaker 1: question about DJ read is an absolute ball or Big
- 24:46Speaker 1: ups to the pro personnel John Snider for bringing him
- 24:49Speaker 1: in Unless well, Bump, The Seahawks are in first place,
- 24:52Speaker 1: setting up a division showdown against the Rams. NFC title
- 24:56Speaker 1: is on the line. Pete talks about a couple of
- 24:57Speaker 1: things every year owning the NFC West US have a
- 25:00Speaker 1: chance to finally show everybody that this is our division.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Get it done. Payback is up. You know what, you
- 25:06Speaker 1: know what it is. The Rams are coming up north.
- 25:10Speaker 1: We know it's gonna be a tough one. I don't
- 25:11Speaker 1: care if they lost to the Jets. They played the
- 25:13Speaker 1: Hawks up, but I think the Hawks are ready to go.
- 25:15Speaker 1: There are special teams just playing good offense, defense all around.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Let's get it together and go to eleven and four.
- 25:23Speaker 1: All right, that has been hot talk. I am Michael Bump.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Is he is Nasa Choby. The Hawks beat the Washington
- 25:28Speaker 1: football team twenty to fifteen, setting up a showdown with
- 25:32Speaker 1: the Rams. We will holler at y'all soon. Have a
- 25:35Speaker 1: great one.
