- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today we're talking about limiting beliefs, and I'm going
- 0:33to kind of base this off of what we talked about yesterday was
- 0:36stopping burnout and talking about my mother.
- 0:39So one of the things that I had the blessing of was having a
- 0:44very positive dad and a more negative mom.
- 0:48And that gave me an insight into how people think pattern wise,
- 0:54even before I knew what the heck I was thinking about or looking
- 0:56at. And I could see the difference
- 0:58and I definitely became a piece of both of them.
- 1:01I have built the muscle of the positivity that my father gave
- 1:05me and I have loosened the grip of the negativity that my mother
- 1:09and the anxiety that my mother provided to me.
- 1:11But Needless to say, I definitely had that blend of
- 1:15both of those worlds yesterday. We were talking about, you know,
- 1:19the whole stopping burnout emotionally.
- 1:22And it got me thinking about the fact that I wanted to talk to
- 1:25you all today about limiting beliefs.
- 1:27Because in that podcast I talked about how she would be offered
- 1:31different possibilities and she would not take them.
- 1:34And it was a, it was a difficult thing for me to understand
- 1:39because as a young woman growing up with a father who was very,
- 1:44very driven to say you can do be whatever you want to do and be
- 1:48you, you can go out and make anything happen.
- 1:50He always taught me possibility thinking, and that meant a lot
- 1:54to me. And it's still it.
- 1:56It put me in the position where I am here today.
- 1:58Otherwise I would have never thought about going to work for
- 2:01Tony Robbins. I wouldn't have gone to the
- 2:02events, I wouldn't have pushed myself, I wouldn't have written
- 2:04books, I wouldn't be here. So the limiting beliefs were
- 2:08very limited in my world. But I watched what they did to
- 2:12my mother and she would say things like I was never good in
- 2:16math. Well, that may have been true
- 2:20because remember, two things can be true at the same time.
- 2:22But instead she could have said I was never taught math the way
- 2:26I could have learned. And she could have gone and she
- 2:29could have gotten tutoring because it was something that we
- 2:31talked about her going back to school and her getting help.
- 2:34I'd need help, OK, so get help. But she wouldn't take the risk,
- 2:39because her limiting belief was I was not good in math, She said
- 2:42She always wanted to be a nurse like Aunt Ruthie, and Aunt
- 2:45Ruthie was one of her favorite aunts, and she really wanted to
- 2:48do it, but she didn't go back to school for it.
- 2:51And then she said she wanted to be a hairdresser, but she didn't
- 2:55want to stand all day. So she had all of these limiting
- 2:59things that would show up for her.
- 3:00And instead of saying, well wait, wait, let me strengthen my
- 3:02legs, let me work on stuff like that.
- 3:05Nope, she wouldn't do it. And those limiting beliefs held
- 3:09her back her entire life. She worked, as I said yesterday,
- 3:12she worked for Texas Instruments, and she did the
- 3:15same job for, I think it was 28 years.
- 3:18And that was only the first time she worked for them.
- 3:21Sorry. The second time.
- 3:22The first time she worked for them was when she got right out
- 3:24of school, high school, Until she had me.
- 3:29And then she stopped. She quit and when I was 9 or 10,
- 3:33she went back, I think it was 10 because she went back to work to
- 3:37get health insurance because my dad had had a heart attack and
- 3:40could not get health insurance. So she went back to work
- 3:43strictly to get health insurance.
- 3:45He was turned out, he was fine. He ended up, you know, opening
- 3:48more businesses and doing his own thing.
- 3:51And he was good and she could have done anything and he would
- 3:55have supported her in doing anything.
- 3:57But she didn't want it and she lived by the limiting beliefs.
- 4:01So living by your limiting beliefs causes more pain than
- 4:06you could ever imagine because you don't get out of this never
- 4:10ending story that you tell yourself about the fact you will
- 4:15not succeed no matter how hard you try, no matter what you do.
- 4:18And I watched her do it over and over and over and over, and I
- 4:23could never understand what was going on.
- 4:27Now in the position that I'm in, I did.
- 4:29I do understand what was going on.
- 4:31Those limiting beliefs, when you have them, if you don't
- 4:34interrupt their pattern, they become your reality.
- 4:37So you can start talking about something.
- 4:39You can start thinking about something.
- 4:41It can be everyone has negative thoughts.
- 4:43We all do like, oh, am I going to be able to make that work?
- 4:45Oh, am I going to do this? How am I going to do that?
- 4:47And everyone has negative thoughts.
- 4:51Can't escape them part of your hard wiring.
- 4:54However, what you do with those negative thoughts is what's so
- 4:58important. So she had opportunity to say
- 5:01when those thoughts would come up, say OK, that was 25 years
- 5:05ago. I can certainly try something
- 5:07different now that that was, you know, then that was the teacher,
- 5:12this was this. Let me just try taking one class
- 5:15and seeing what's happening. It's baby steps.
- 5:18When you are reconstructing yourself and you're breaking
- 5:21down limiting beliefs, you have to take baby steps to do it.
- 5:25Sometimes you can take a huge, tremendous leap of faith, but
- 5:28often what ends up happening when that takes place, there's a
- 5:32huge issue with you rebounding back and you just go right back
- 5:36to the pattern because the leap was so big.
- 5:38Sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn't.
- 5:41I'm I'm much more of a fan of doing small, incremental steps
- 5:45that break down the pattern. It's how I get people to get
- 5:48their books published, do their courses, write, change jobs, do
- 5:53whatever it is that they're doing.
- 5:55One step at a time. One step at a time, because it's
- 5:58easy for the brain to assimilate while we're making progress.
- 6:01OK, OK, I can see it. So start working on those
- 6:05limiting beliefs. Because when you're living,
- 6:08you're limiting beliefs. It sucks.
- 6:10So stop. Think about where they show up
- 6:12and let's. Get.
- 6:13Rid of them. All right, my friends, I hope
- 6:15you have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 6:17Bye.
