Speaker 2: Oh, I thought maybe you thought because I was going to be walking around outside.
• 1:05
Speaker 2: That's how hot it is out here.
• 1:06
  Speaker 1: That's exactly what I thought.
• 1:07
Speaker 1: You read my mind.
• 1:08
Speaker 1: Oh great car knack.
• 1:10
Speaker 1: Well, we've got lots to get to in our two-hour live program here, and so I thought we would just get right to it.
• 1:18
Speaker 1: Shall we, shall we?
• 1:19
Speaker 1: We're going to start off with our story of the week this week, and here is the story from Automotive News.
• 1:29
Speaker 1: Consumers are unimpressed with many driver assistance features and uncertain if more advanced systems will be useful.
• 1:34
Speaker 1: That's the assessment of a new JD Power white paper, which calls into question whether the efforts automakers are expending on driver assistance upgrades are worthwhile.
• 1:44
Speaker 1: The efforts automakers are expending on driver assistance upgrades are worthwhile.
• 1:46
Speaker 1: Driver assistance has an identity crisis.
• 1:49
Speaker 1: According to Kathleen Rizg, jd Power's senior director of user experience, benchmarking and technology Try to put that on a business card and co-author of the paper, told Automotive News, owners of systems that offer level two automated driving I didn't know that there were levels of automated driving do not consider the systems convenient, and more advanced hands-free systems are not resonating with consumers.
• 2:18
Speaker 1: You ever driven a car that does all the driving function for you?
• 2:21
  Speaker 1: No, you Mars.
• 2:22
Speaker 1: No, not all of them.
• 2:23
  Speaker 1: I don't trust it.
• 2:24
Speaker 1: Well, some are okay.
• 2:27
  Speaker 1: I don't trust it.
• 2:28
Speaker 1: Well, some are okay, others aren't worth a hoot, but who?
• 2:33
Speaker 1: They've got to get a lot better, in my opinion, for it to have wide adoption Plus.
• 2:40
Speaker 1: Are you going to pay $2,000, $3,000 for this feature?
• 2:42
  Speaker 1: I'm not.
• 2:42
Speaker 1: No, not if you're not going to pay $2,000, $3,000 for this feature, I'm not.
• 2:46
Speaker 2: No, not, if you're not going to use it.
• 2:47
Speaker 2: And if it's on there, is it an option or is it a normal feature and benefit?
• 2:52
  Speaker 2: I don't see the benefit.
• 2:54
Speaker 2: I see the feature, I don't see the benefit.
• 2:56
Speaker 1: Most of them have their options.
• 2:58
Speaker 1: Owners of systems that offer level two automated driving do not consider the systems convenient and more advanced.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: Hands-free systems are not resonating with consumers.
• 3:08
Speaker 1: They're not seeing the value and the differences of these capabilities right now, risk said.
• 3:13
Speaker 1: Driver said if they must keep their eye on the road or be ready to take control at any moment, the feature doesn't offer any of the convenience it promises according to the paper.
• 3:28
Speaker 1: And that goes with other things too Start-stop you love that.
• 3:30
Speaker 2: Oh, I hate it.
• 3:31
Speaker 1: No, I absolutely turn off what I don't understand is so they put the start-stop feature on there and it is like it's on and you have to turn it off.
• 3:41
Speaker 2: How about switching it around?
• 3:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, turn it on.
• 3:43
Speaker 2: If you want it on, correct, I turn mine off.
• 3:45
Speaker 2: Right, how about switching it around?
• 3:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, turn it on.
• 3:46
Speaker 2: If you want it on, correct, yeah, I turn mine off.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: I put the seatbelt on, turn off the start-stop.
• 3:52
Speaker 1: Motors did not understand if the fundamental purpose of the system was to offer convenience or improve safety, and only 24% of respondents felt that active driving systems made them better drivers.
• 4:00
Speaker 1: Only 24% that decreased as automation's role expanded.
• 4:05
Speaker 1: 18% said that hands-free driving, a more advanced technology, made them better drivers.
• 4:10
Speaker 1: Well, because they couldn't drive to begin with.
• 4:13
Speaker 1: Middling experiences with present-day technology will limit US motorists' interest in paying for more sophisticated technology later, according to this woman.
• 4:22
Speaker 1: Technology later, according to this woman.
• 4:28
Speaker 1: The stymie that could stymie car makers' burgeoning plans to hook consumers into subscriptions for driver assistance systems.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: Tesla, prominent example, charges $8,000 up front, or $99 a month for its assisted driving system that it calls full self-driving.
• 4:44
Speaker 1: A month for its assisted driving system that it calls full self-driving.
• 4:48
Speaker 1: Others are looking to follow that lead.
• 4:54
Speaker 1: Mercedes-benz $2,500 for its drive pilot system.
• 4:56
Speaker 1: General Motors CEO Mary Barra your favorite, has said her company anticipates $2 billion in annual revenue from Super Cruise within the next five years.
• 5:06
Speaker 2: Okay, you think so.
• 5:06
  Speaker 2: Well, go ahead.
• 5:07
Speaker 2: Finish the article, you know.
• 5:07
Speaker 1: I guess the issue here that I have is that I realize that I'm an older American and I like to drive to begin with, don't you?
• 5:18
Speaker 1: Yeah, I like to drive.
• 5:19
Speaker 1: I do too, and I don't need the car to drive for me.
• 5:22
Speaker 1: I prefer driving myself.
• 5:24
  Speaker 1: That's just me.
• 5:25
Speaker 1: Let me thumb through this While you're thumbing through there.
• 5:32
Speaker 2: That's an option that they have for the driving.
• 5:35
Speaker 2: There's other options that you can turn off.
• 5:37
Speaker 2: When I bought mine, they were going through the litany of things in the queue that you can turn on.
• 5:42
Speaker 2: If you get too close to something, your seat vibrates.
• 5:45
  Speaker 2: That that's good, that's.
• 5:47
  Speaker 2: That's a good thing.
• 5:47
Speaker 2: And then the other is the distance.
• 5:54
Speaker 2: You can have the car slow down or automatically stop if your distance is too close.
• 6:00
  Speaker 2: I I don't like that feature.
• 6:02
Speaker 2: I turn it off.
• 6:03
Speaker 2: Or lane changing when you know you stay in the lane and you've got to fight the wheel to change the lane, I hate that.
• 6:07
Speaker 2: I turn that all off.
• 6:08
Speaker 2: So the only one I actually work manually is the start-stop function.
• 6:12
  Speaker 2: That's it.
• 6:13
Speaker 2: I don't have the automatic drive.
• 6:15
Speaker 2: I don't have all that hands-free stuff, so you can keep it, and if I'm ever in a car that has it, I refuse to use it.
• 6:22
Speaker 2: I don't want it, or I don't even want the option.
• 6:29
  Speaker 1: That's my opinion.
• 6:29
  Speaker 1: I don't use it either.
• 6:31
Speaker 1: The car that I'm currently driving out there and I've had this problem now twice and both of them are Chrysler products where you put it in reverse.
• 6:41
Speaker 1: Now I have a slight grade from the street onto my driveway that goes over the sidewalk.
• 6:48
Speaker 1: It's very slight, right, it's not very steep, it's just very slight.
• 6:53
Speaker 1: Put it in reverse.
• 6:54
Speaker 1: Well, apparently, the reverse sensor on the thing, the backup thing, my God it slams on the brakes.
• 7:02
Speaker 2: Oh, mine does that too, pulling on the garage sometimes.
• 7:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely it slams on the brakes.
• 7:06
Speaker 2: And I figured out you've got your foot depressed on the brake pad as you're rolling backwards and you're kind of easing off.
• 7:12
Speaker 2: Well, if you touch that a little too hard, it will stop.
• 7:14
Speaker 2: I noticed it's the pressure that you put on the brake pedal.
• 7:17
Speaker 2: In my experience it's that way It'll stop the car.
• 7:21
Speaker 1: In my car I don't even have my foot on the brake and it just all of a sudden I'm in reverse and it goes.
• 7:27
  Speaker 1: What I mean?
• 7:28
Speaker 1: It squeals the tires, skids the tires on there.
• 7:31
Speaker 1: It's that violent In the driveway.
• 7:33
Speaker 1: In the driveway, backing up what.
• 7:37
  Speaker 2: What.
• 7:37
  Speaker 2: What is that?
• 7:39
  Speaker 3: It's a recall.
• 7:40
Speaker 3: No, yeah, something's pointed at the wrong angle.
• 7:42
  Speaker 3: It's a recall.
• 7:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought maybe a camera might be pointed down and it sees that concrete and stops.
• 7:49
Speaker 1: I don't really know what the problem is, but it's very annoying and frightening, actually, because you're thinking, oh my God, am I going to run over a baby, or is there somebody walking behind me, or whatever?
• 7:58
  Speaker 1: I don't get it.
• 8:00
Speaker 1: An Alex Partners study issued in April found market penetration of level two automated driving systems has reached approximately 56 percent in China, while 38 percent of new vehicles in the US contain level two driving technology.
• 8:16
Speaker 1: Us market will eventually adopt driver assistance tech at a greater scale, but that adoption will not be at the same pace as earlier technology such as adaptive cruise control.
• 8:26
Speaker 1: I do like that pace.
• 8:28
Speaker 1: As earlier technology such as adaptive cruise control, I do like that.
• 8:30
Speaker 1: So you hit the cruise control and you can adjust the distance between you and the car ahead of you.
• 8:35
Speaker 1: I usually like to have it nice and short so people don't cut in between us, but whatever, it works great.
• 8:41
Speaker 1: When I have a car that doesn't have the adaptive cruise control feature, I'm kind of saddened by that because I like that, but that only operates when you have the cruise cruise control feature.
• 8:49
Speaker 1: Kind of saddened by that because I like that.
• 8:50
Speaker 2: But that only operates when you have the cruise on.
• 8:51
  Speaker 1: Correct.
• 8:52
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 8:52
Speaker 1: Yeah, market research and consumer willingness to pay for new features is going to take a lot longer than manufacturers want, because the technology is there, not always the best, but it is there.
• 9:04
Speaker 1: And you know, oh, jeff, come on in, let me show you this new feature, yeah what are we going to?
• 9:11
  Speaker 1: Monkey with today.
• 9:11
Speaker 1: Yeah, it comes out in the Buick and this is going to be perfect for you.
• 9:15
Speaker 1: It's only going to cost you $2,000 more Back to the drawing board.
• 9:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'm good with all that.
• 9:22
Speaker 1: Thank you very much for trying.
• 9:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, all right, how about let's do some recalls real quick here, shall we?
• 9:31
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
• 9:33
  Speaker 2: Mike agrees.
• 9:33
Speaker 2: Barnes just spoke up there, didn't he?
• 9:36
  Speaker 2: He did.
• 9:36
Speaker 1: Yeah, you joining in the conversation.
• 9:38
Speaker 1: Well, I'm trying to what he's trying to do is he's over there fiddling on the computer, like every teenage girl does, he actually is trying to help the show out with that.
• 9:47
Speaker 2: Is that what he's trying to?
• 9:47
  Speaker 1: do?
• 9:48
  Speaker 1: He absolutely is.
• 9:48
Speaker 1: Oh, you're speaking up on his behalf.
• 9:50
Speaker 3: No, it's trying to cover for me.
• 9:51
Speaker 3: I'll slip you some money in a little bit, Jeff.
• 9:53
Speaker 1: General Motors is recalling 62,000 Chevy Silverado heavy duties, 4,500, 5,500, 6,500 from the 2019 to 2024 model years.
• 10:03
  Speaker 1: The affected vehicles.
• 10:05
Speaker 1: In the affected vehicles, the brake pressure sensor might have been assembled in a way that allows brake fluid to leak beyond the seal and into the brake pressure switch, increasing the risk of fire under the hood.
• 10:19
Speaker 1: Oh man, God, Other recalls.
• 10:22
Speaker 1: I have a list of Ford products here that goes on infinitum.

Speaker 2: Let's get back to the Mustang.
• 10:39
Speaker 2: They're locking you in the car.
• 10:42
Speaker 1: Apparently, if the battery goes down, backseat occupants may become trapped.
• 10:47
Speaker 1: I didn't drill down into it, what's causing it, but it's being recalled for that.
• 10:51
Speaker 1: Sudden loss of brake function.
• 10:54
Speaker 1: I just did that.
• 10:56
Speaker 1: The heavy duty no, I did not.

  Speaker 1: I don't know what.
• 11:15
Speaker 1: It's displaying Nude pictures or something I don't know.
• 11:18
Speaker 1: That would be for the Ford Ranger, 2025.
• 11:21
Speaker 1: Damaged wire harness may cause engine stall.
• 11:25
  Speaker 1: Ford F-150 2025.

• 11:52
Speaker 1: Martha's not there anymore.
• 11:55
  Speaker 2: Martha rolled away.
• 11:55
  Speaker 2: She rolled away.
• 11:56
Speaker 1: Backed up until you hear glass Loss of brake function on a bunch of Volvos.
• 12:01
Speaker 1: I'm not going to get through them.
• 12:02
Speaker 1: This list is too long 2020 through 2026 on some of them.
• 12:08
Speaker 1: Wow, A brake pedal may shift out of position.
• 12:11
Speaker 1: You know there was a brake pedal there.
• 12:13
  Speaker 1: Wait a minute.
• 12:14
Speaker 1: Oh, it's over on the passenger side.
• 12:15
Speaker 2: It's in the back seat now.

• 12:21

• 12:42
Speaker 1: First up the windshield is A, behind the driver is B In the back seat, passenger back there that's C.
• 12:50
Speaker 1: Some cars actually have a D pillar as well.
• 12:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway, so those are the recalls.
