- 2:40Speaker 2: just going to say Instagram this week for helping me
- 2:45Speaker 2: get some of these stories.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Let's get right into the business stuff.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So just recently, ghost Face Killer announced officially that Supreme
- 2:59Speaker 2: Clientele two will be dropping in August. This will be
- 3:05Speaker 2: the third album in Massiveppill's seven album seven Icon run
- 3:13Speaker 2: started with Slick Rick with his album Victory. Then we
- 3:18Speaker 2: got Ray Kwan's The Emperor's New Clothes, and now, even
- 3:22Speaker 2: though we don't officially have a date because he didn't
- 3:25Speaker 2: say a date, we have the announcement of ghost Face Killers,
- 3:31Speaker 2: sequel to probably his best album, a undeniable classic from
- 3:37Speaker 2: the year two thousand, Supreme Clientele. And he also kind
- 3:45Speaker 2: of put an explanation point on that announcement by dropping
- 3:50Speaker 2: a new single call Rap Kingpin, and people seem to
- 3:55Speaker 2: be excited for the most part. I like it right,
- 4:00Speaker 2: it's it's not extra gruff voice ghosts, So I like that.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I like the way he rhyme in his ghost face.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But the beat, it kind of it kind of pulls
- 4:14Speaker 2: you in at first. You're like, Okay, this is old school. Okay,
- 4:17Speaker 2: I'm feeling that. Wait a minute, is that a mighty
- 4:20Speaker 2: healthy sample? That kind of threw me off, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 2: because I get it.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's a sequel to.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Hands down, in my opinion, your best album. I know
- 4:32Speaker 2: some people love iron Man, but whatever, uh, and the
- 4:38Speaker 2: callback is not necessary because the last thing you want
- 4:44Speaker 2: to do because people are gonna do it anyway. And
- 4:46Speaker 2: maybe that's his philosophy, like you're gonna you're gonna compare
- 4:49Speaker 2: the albums anyway. But I don't want to compare this
- 4:54Speaker 2: song Rat Kingpin to Mighty Healthy. You know why, because
- 4:57Speaker 2: there's no comparison Mighty Healthy. It's crazy. Okay, So I
- 5:04Speaker 2: still like the track. I still like Ghosts and what
- 5:09Speaker 2: he brought to the track. I wish there was a
- 5:12Speaker 2: third verse something of that nature. Shout out to the
- 5:15Speaker 2: homie AC I think he said, considering that beat having
- 5:20Speaker 2: to check out by melody basically style beat, he should
- 5:24Speaker 2: have just put rock him on the end of that joint.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But who knows. Maybe he asked him, maybe he didn't.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 5:30Speaker 2: But it's a decent start for a supreme clientele too.
- 5:35Speaker 2: But like I told you all before, man, it is
- 5:40Speaker 2: a tall task to do a sequel, and not many
- 5:44Speaker 2: people have been successful at maybe not capturing the same
- 5:52Speaker 2: amount of success as the original, but being like a
- 5:56Speaker 2: proper sequel that you could feel like I could listen
- 5:59Speaker 2: to part and part two is an extension of it
- 6:02Speaker 2: or evolution of it. Most recently, a success story would
- 6:07Speaker 2: be Redman. Right, he did Muddy Waters. I was Muddy
- 6:12Speaker 2: Waters is a classic to me, arguably his best album.
- 6:17Speaker 2: When he announced Muddy Waters Too, and when he took
- 6:19Speaker 2: ever to drop it, I was nervous as hell listening
- 6:23Speaker 2: to it, like, man, this, maybe he shouldn't have called
- 6:27Speaker 2: it this, But it didn't matter. It turned out to
- 6:29Speaker 2: be a very very good album, a very notable sequel
- 6:35Speaker 2: to a classic album, and one of Redman's best albums
- 6:40Speaker 2: in probably more than a decade.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And I'm not lying. I did a wholetel list.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Okay, not to say everything was whack, but this was
- 6:48Speaker 2: clearly one of his better albums. It just shoots right
- 6:51Speaker 2: up to the top somewhere, you know, either before or after.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Doc's the name. I might say before, Okay, I might
- 6:59Speaker 2: say before, but with Supreme Clientele too. Remember what Supreme
- 7:04Speaker 2: Clientele did? Right, dropped in two thousand at a time
- 7:09Speaker 2: where the rap game was very different, you know, like
- 7:14Speaker 2: certain artists that kind of you know lost that way.
- 7:17Speaker 2: You know, production was kind of weird around that time.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Everything and the wo definitely was down. Like remember when
- 7:24Speaker 2: the Woo launched, they had all these hits. It was
- 7:28Speaker 2: like they got to a point where all these artists
- 7:31Speaker 2: started returning with albums, their second albums, and they just
- 7:35Speaker 2: weren't good, and it just felt like the wool was
- 7:39Speaker 2: going down. And then ghost Face dropped Supreme Clientele. He
- 7:42Speaker 2: recaptured that feeling that we remembered considering iron Man was
- 7:48Speaker 2: already dope. He was His sophomore was not a jinx.
- 7:54Speaker 2: It was really it was really dope to see and hear.
- 7:57Speaker 2: So there's a lot with that album that people are
- 8:02Speaker 2: going to have expectations for. I'm sorry, it's just the
- 8:05Speaker 2: way it goes. People are going to have expectations that
- 8:08Speaker 2: are huge. But from what I've seen online, most people
- 8:12Speaker 2: like the song that's out, so we'll see. Obviously, I'll
- 8:15Speaker 2: do a review when it drops next. So Joey Badass
- 8:23Speaker 2: took to Instagram Live recently to talk a little bit
- 8:28Speaker 2: about Columbia Records delaying his album. He dropped a single
- 8:34Speaker 2: not that long ago that I thought it was pretty dope,
- 8:37Speaker 2: and he had a performance on Jimmy Kimmel that I
- 8:40Speaker 2: thought that was dope too, And he was telling his
- 8:44Speaker 2: fans August first, which is the day of this recording,
- 8:49Speaker 2: you're gonna get this album and to be quite honest,
- 8:53Speaker 2: considering what I've seen that has dropped today, it would
- 8:55Speaker 2: have been perfect because not to say everybody's whack that
- 8:59Speaker 2: dropped today. It was just as far as my interest.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I'm a fan of Joey Badass, so I was interested.
- 9:06Speaker 2: But when I saw this video like two days before
- 9:10Speaker 2: and he's talking about, you know, the momentum he built,
- 9:14Speaker 2: how he dropped, like everything he dropped, as far as
- 9:19Speaker 2: the disc records and singles, they went straight to YouTube
- 9:23Speaker 2: first just to put it out to the people. And
- 9:27Speaker 2: he was doing the same thing here right, Well, I
- 9:32Speaker 2: guess trying to get Columbia to just like Yo, I
- 9:35Speaker 2: got the momentum drop it.
- 9:38Speaker 1: For whatever reason, they delayed it now.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I don't know if it's delayed until the next week
- 9:45Speaker 2: or next month or next year, I don't know. But
- 9:48Speaker 2: what was interesting about watching him talk about this and
- 9:53Speaker 2: how he was saying how Columbia records, you know, they
- 9:56Speaker 2: don't get it, they don't understand on what it is
- 10:01Speaker 2: him as an artist feeding the people, you know, all
- 10:04Speaker 2: the all the rappers speak, And I felt I fell
- 10:08Speaker 2: on two sides right of this conversation or or argument
- 10:13Speaker 2: if you arguing or whatever.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Uh, one.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I feel Joey bad As because at the beginning of
- 10:22Speaker 2: the year when he decided to like basically beg Kendrick
- 10:28Speaker 2: to hey, battle me too, and Kendrick just been on
- 10:30Speaker 2: tour for like the majority of the year, and it's
- 10:33Speaker 2: like we nobody wants to see that Drake and Kendrick happened.
- 10:38Speaker 2: It was what it was stop Okay, who knows, maybe
- 10:43Speaker 2: that was ordered by Columbia records because regulabels do get
- 10:47Speaker 2: down like that, like, Yo, this Kendrick, see if he
- 10:48Speaker 2: can give us some of you know, some of that
- 10:51Speaker 2: like this Drake right, like Drake stock ain't dropped that
- 10:55Speaker 2: much if he will engage because he looking for something,
- 10:59Speaker 2: so you should have went to them. Kendrick's kind of
- 11:02Speaker 2: like who what, I'm GNX, I'm in Barcelona. But with
- 11:07Speaker 2: Joey Badass, you know, I could feel him because him
- 11:12Speaker 2: coming off of that, you know, dropping those songs early
- 11:16Speaker 2: on that was kind of like and then get into
- 11:20Speaker 2: a basically a real twenty v one right where he
- 11:25Speaker 2: was really fighting off a number of mcs from the
- 11:29Speaker 2: West Coast based off of what he said. He kind
- 11:32Speaker 2: of got a lot of credibility out of it. I know,
- 11:35Speaker 2: some people didn't like his records. I don't care. I
- 11:38Speaker 2: don't care. The last two they were good. They were
- 11:42Speaker 2: good enough for me to feel like he won, considering
- 11:46Speaker 2: he was literally fighting like a bunch of dudes. Drake
- 11:50Speaker 2: in his case, he made I think it was pushups.
- 11:53Speaker 2: He made one song and addressed a couple of people,
- 11:55Speaker 2: but after that it was all Kendrick focused, whereas you know,
- 12:00Speaker 2: with Joey was sort of like, oh, you want to fight,
- 12:02Speaker 2: Oh you want to fight. Oh you want to fight,
- 12:03Speaker 2: Oh you want to fight. So it was a couple
- 12:05Speaker 2: of it was a couple of songs right that everybody dropped,
- 12:09Speaker 2: and it was kind of it was like a dope time.
- 12:11Speaker 2: So Joey had some momentum off of that. And then
- 12:14Speaker 2: when I heard this single, even though he's still taking
- 12:17Speaker 2: some shots, which I'm like, all right, man, move on,
- 12:21Speaker 2: I felt it was dope. And when I watched a
- 12:23Speaker 2: Jimmy Kimmel performance, I was like, this is dope. I'm
- 12:27Speaker 2: curious as to what this album is going to sound like.
- 12:30Speaker 2: So on August first, I'll be in.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Line, not.
- 12:35Speaker 2: You know what I mean, I'll be online, not in line,
- 12:38Speaker 2: but I'll be in line to hear it and it
- 12:42Speaker 2: got delayed. But I also fall on the side of
- 12:49Speaker 2: the record label when it comes to this. Joey, you
- 12:54Speaker 2: have a contract. We know you want to be freedom
- 12:58Speaker 2: of expression, we know you kind of want to move
- 13:01Speaker 2: like an indie person would, but your label has to
- 13:06Speaker 2: be behind that market and strategy. Right There are people
- 13:11Speaker 2: who get paid to come up with these things, or
- 13:15Speaker 2: at least work in tandem as they should work in
- 13:18Speaker 2: tandem with you as an artist, to help really build
- 13:23Speaker 2: that thing to a fever pitch. And I think maybe
- 13:28Speaker 2: they felt like, you know, even though he had some momentum,
- 13:32Speaker 2: it kind of slowed down what you did right before
- 13:36Speaker 2: this album is supposed to drop.
- 13:40Speaker 1: So I get it from both angles. But I just
- 13:43Speaker 1: got to.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Look at somebody like Jokie Badas and say, like, dog,
- 13:47Speaker 2: if you want to do that, what you're saying. Oh,
- 13:50Speaker 2: he also threatened to just put the album on YouTube,
- 13:53Speaker 2: but they will take you to court, come on, man,
- 13:58Speaker 2: or they'll take some money from me or whatever. But
- 14:03Speaker 2: I think at the end of the day is you
- 14:07Speaker 2: got to get off the label if that's the case,
- 14:10Speaker 2: if you want to roll like this.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Because that's what other people do.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Nine times out of ten, they're either independent artists or
- 14:20Speaker 2: there's someone there's someone who are a group or artists
- 14:24Speaker 2: who are on a label that is one hundred percent
- 14:28Speaker 2: with them, right, one hundred percent, Like oh.
- 14:31Speaker 1: You want to draw, Oh you want this, Drake, you
- 14:33Speaker 1: want to.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Do that, Let's do it like right, like rognation, Like
- 14:37Speaker 2: look at what the clips were trying to do. And
- 14:43Speaker 2: Kendricks Verse didn't really even have anything controversial, and death
- 14:47Speaker 2: Jam wasn't with it. Push your t calls jay Z,
- 14:53Speaker 2: he say hold my beer or hold my lots or whatever,
- 14:56Speaker 2: my red stripe whatever, which is beer for those who
- 15:01Speaker 2: don't know, and they are not a sponsor of this podcast.
- 15:06Speaker 1: And then you know they were out of the deal.
- 15:07Speaker 2: But they got the ideal rollout for themselves, like one
- 15:12Speaker 2: of the best rollouts for an album in hip hop history.
- 15:16Speaker 2: It was just like they were gonna make sure the
- 15:19Speaker 2: hype was always there, there was always something added. They
- 15:22Speaker 2: were everywhere you can imagine, write, breakfast club, tiny desk,
- 15:28Speaker 2: just everywhere, all at the same time. And then everybody's
- 15:31Speaker 2: loving the album, buying vinyl and all that stuff, and
- 15:33Speaker 2: then boom tour perfect similar to what Kendrick did off
- 15:38Speaker 2: the strength of gn X like every time you thought, oh,
- 15:41Speaker 2: he gonna respond, no, he's doing the super Bowl.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Oh he gonna respond, No, he's just wanting a bunch
- 15:46Speaker 1: of Grammys.
- 15:50Speaker 2: So Joey, if you want the same kind of deal
- 15:53Speaker 2: out of Columbia, you guys probably should have been on
- 15:58Speaker 2: the same page. And I'm not saying they weren't. Maybe Joey,
- 16:02Speaker 2: maybe they were. Maybe everything Joey did was a part
- 16:05Speaker 2: of Columbia, and Joey vadd as his plan, but he
- 16:09Speaker 2: felt the album was ready to be dropped and they
- 16:12Speaker 2: were like, nah, but just wait.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Maybe that's what happened.
- 16:18Speaker 2: But nevertheless, from what I can gather from the video,
- 16:22Speaker 2: he seemed like, you know, obviously extremely disappointed that the
- 16:27Speaker 2: album wasn't dropping, and I feel them As an artist, man,
- 16:33Speaker 2: when you feel like it's go time right now, you
- 16:36Speaker 2: want to. But I'm also curious because he obviously, as
- 16:41Speaker 2: an artist, believes in this project. I'm just wondering how
- 16:45Speaker 2: good it will be. I'm just like, I'm hopeful. I
- 16:52Speaker 2: just hope it ain't one of those things where you know,
- 16:54Speaker 2: as an artist, you feel like it was my great
- 16:57Speaker 2: work blah blah blah, and then we hear it and
- 16:59Speaker 2: We're like, it's I.
- 17:01Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, So it is what it is.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Did you see Joey Badass on IG Live complaining?
- 17:08Speaker 1: Do you Well, here's a better question.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Do you think artists who want to be artists and
- 17:14Speaker 2: don't want to know executive producer dancing all in the video?
- 17:20Speaker 1: All right, I'll relax. Do you think.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Artists who want to be artists should just skip major
- 17:30Speaker 2: labels all together? We know these things sometimes comes, these
- 17:35Speaker 2: deals come with having like nice budgets and stuff like that,
- 17:39Speaker 2: But do you think we're just at a time where
- 17:42Speaker 2: you don't need them.
- 17:44Speaker 1: You can build this stuff.
- 17:45Speaker 2: You may have to hire a couple of people who
- 17:49Speaker 2: did certain things you can't do, but beyond that, it
- 17:53Speaker 2: may cost you way less just to drop your music
- 17:56Speaker 2: and have a team that can give you a significant rollout.
- 18:00Speaker 1: So leave your comments in the commons section below.
- 18:04Speaker 2: And lastly, the date is August first, two and twenty five,
- 18:14Speaker 2: and it is the thirtieth anniversary of Ray Kwan the
- 18:20Speaker 2: Chef's debut classic album only built for Cuban links. If
- 18:27Speaker 2: it was around back then and you bought the cassette,
- 18:31Speaker 2: you know it's also referred to as the purple tape
- 18:36Speaker 2: because the tape was purple.
- 18:37Speaker 1: That's why.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I don't believe I lost my purple tape a long
- 18:43Speaker 2: time ago. I even lost the purple CD. But I
- 18:46Speaker 2: have the purple vinyl and it's pretty dupe. Right, it's
- 18:51Speaker 2: right back there and behind me. If you're watching on YouTube.
- 18:56Speaker 2: For myself personally thinking about this album thirty years later,
- 19:03Speaker 2: the first thing that comes to my mind is the
- 19:05Speaker 2: fact that it's coming up on actually towards the end
- 19:11Speaker 2: of this month, thirty years since I started my freshman
- 19:16Speaker 2: year in college, which is crazy. Nineteen ninety five was
- 19:21Speaker 2: a crazy year for hip hop. Same thing with ninety six.
- 19:24Speaker 2: So I'm in school and all the things that people
- 19:28Speaker 2: talk about, debate about all that, it was just happening
- 19:31Speaker 2: in real time and I was just surrounded by hip
- 19:34Speaker 2: hop heads.
- 19:36Speaker 1: But I remember when I remember where.
- 19:41Speaker 2: My hype started for this album, and it was in
- 19:46Speaker 2: I believe in ninety four, either ninety four or early
- 19:52Speaker 2: twenty nineteen ninety five, when I saw that Ray first
- 19:59Speaker 2: of all, I heard on the radio, so I went
- 20:02Speaker 2: to go get it because you know, I could hear
- 20:04Speaker 2: the hook. But Ray Kwan and ghost Face had the
- 20:09Speaker 2: song the single Heaven and Hell that was featured on
- 20:14Speaker 2: the soundtrack to the movie Fresh. Now, I never saw
- 20:17Speaker 2: the movie Fresh, but I saw that video and I
- 20:20Speaker 2: heard the song and I was like, Yo, that don't
- 20:24Speaker 2: sound nothing like the Wu Tang album. Like that song
- 20:30Speaker 2: is crazy, you know what I'm saying. And I kept thinking, Yo,
- 20:35Speaker 2: Ray Kwan's album might be legit. So when it dropped
- 20:41Speaker 2: day one, I was writing the record store, I know
- 20:44Speaker 2: my spot back in the day's Beach Street in downtown Brooklyn,
- 20:49Speaker 2: Fulton Street, and went there. I think I bought the
- 20:55Speaker 2: CD first because I don't remember, well, you know what,
- 20:59Speaker 2: let me take that back.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I did buy the tape first.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Later when the tape broke or somebody stole it, is
- 21:05Speaker 2: when I got the CD. But I just remember, I
- 21:11Speaker 2: don't think I had a working walkman at the time,
- 21:16Speaker 2: so I had to just you know, open it on
- 21:18Speaker 2: the bus and look through and you know all of that.
- 21:22Speaker 2: And I think I wrote a chapter about this in
- 21:26Speaker 2: my book. But I just remember when I got home,
- 21:31Speaker 2: there was some things I needed to do before school, right,
- 21:34Speaker 2: like kind of getting clothes together and stuff like that,
- 21:36Speaker 2: and I was it wasn't like I was leaving tomorrow,
- 21:39Speaker 2: but you know, I think I might have had a
- 21:41Speaker 2: week or so left, and I just remember like getting
- 21:46Speaker 2: myself situated to that album.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Right just my moms wasn't home.
- 21:51Speaker 2: We had like this big boombox joint, and you know,
- 21:56Speaker 2: the base was crazy on there, so I was like,
- 21:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna play this on there, and I just remember listening,
- 22:02Speaker 2: and I remember the intro striving for Perfection, And I
- 22:08Speaker 2: remember at first not just really like knowing like what
- 22:12Speaker 2: kind of skit is this? Until I started listening, I'm like,
- 22:16Speaker 2: oh wow, this is like a we got one more
- 22:19Speaker 2: chance at this, you know, to get out of this
- 22:23Speaker 2: street stuff.
- 22:24Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like this is it.
- 22:26Speaker 2: You know, this is glory, you know, like like they
- 22:29Speaker 2: were saying, I'm not trying to be, you know, sitting
- 22:32Speaker 2: on a little two hundred doll my life.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I got big and better.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Plans like and I was just sitting there like, you
- 22:40Speaker 2: know what for somebody like me who's getting ready to
- 22:43Speaker 2: go to college, this intro is so relatable to me.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Like sure, I wasn't no drug dealer, you know what
- 22:50Speaker 2: I'm saying. But I wasn't. I'm not a part of
- 22:54Speaker 2: a family. Well now I am, right, because we all
- 22:57Speaker 2: had a lot of us have degrees, but at the time,
- 23:00Speaker 2: my brother, my older brother, was like the only person
- 23:03Speaker 2: in the family with a degree, and I was up next,
- 23:06Speaker 2: and I knew what I wanted, so I was looking
- 23:09Speaker 2: at striving for perfection, like word, you know what I'm saying, God,
- 23:14Speaker 2: when my my babies in there, God mess around my
- 23:17Speaker 2: grand Like I was on. I was feeling all of it,
- 23:20Speaker 2: and I just remember, you know, all the songs like
- 23:25Speaker 2: Hitting in the Wool, Features and obviously Knowledge God was
- 23:31Speaker 2: dope and Incarcerated Scarfaces Knives was on head. You know,
- 23:36Speaker 2: everybody had like another name other than their name, right,
- 23:43Speaker 2: Like this was the first time you saw that on
- 23:45Speaker 2: only built for Cuban links because that's how they were listed,
- 23:47Speaker 2: like method Man aka Johnny Blaze, you know, ghost Face
- 23:53Speaker 2: Killer aka Tony Starks, iron Man. That's where all these
- 23:58Speaker 2: other monikers came from. And then it was dope because
- 24:02Speaker 2: Nas was the only feature outside the WU and it
- 24:05Speaker 2: was like Nas aka Escabaar and it was like, yo,
- 24:09Speaker 2: this is just dope. And then you know we heard
- 24:12Speaker 2: songs like verbal Intercourse and Nas. I think he might
- 24:16Speaker 2: have got a hip hop quotable and a source for
- 24:18Speaker 2: that joint. It was just top to bottom a very
- 24:24Speaker 2: very dope album. And I really liked the way they
- 24:28Speaker 2: set it up in the Wu Tang American Saga Show.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Now I know, ghost Face and Ray Kwan say, oh
- 24:33Speaker 2: it's not true and all of that, who cares.
- 24:36Speaker 1: It was still good television.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And even if they tell us the real story, just
- 24:42Speaker 2: knowing how it was done on this show, it just
- 24:46Speaker 2: tapped into the nostalgia I had for the album. Now
- 24:51Speaker 2: with Ray Kwan, obviously he just dropped the new album
- 24:55Speaker 2: and he went on to have Only Built for Cuba
- 24:58Speaker 2: Links two, which was another great sequel to a classic album.
- 25:03Speaker 2: And you know he had his slip up with the
- 25:06Speaker 2: Immobilarity after this album.
- 25:09Speaker 1: But I did.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Basically an album ranking for Raycorn albums, and the majority
- 25:17Speaker 2: of his albums are good.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Mobilarity is really.
- 25:20Speaker 2: The only one that I could comfortably say it's whack right,
- 25:25Speaker 2: and everything else is either good or great or classic right.
- 25:31Speaker 2: So I just feel like on the anniversary, the thirtieth
- 25:35Speaker 2: anniversary of Only Built for Cuban Links, it should be celebrated. Man,
- 25:40Speaker 2: if you loved that album for back in the day,
- 25:42Speaker 2: played today, you know, if you got t shirts.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I don't know, the sneakers.
- 25:49Speaker 2: That came out a while ago, the actual purple tape
- 25:53Speaker 2: that was re released, the vinyl whatever go on social
- 25:58Speaker 2: media celebrate the classic hip hop album. It was just
- 26:03Speaker 2: one of those albums like the Ellmatics and It Takes
- 26:07Speaker 2: a Nation of Millions and the Paid in Full and
- 26:10Speaker 2: run DMC's Raising Hell. It's like them cornerstones and hip
- 26:14Speaker 2: hop that to me, are similar to people loving like
- 26:19Speaker 2: Marvin Gaye's What's going On and Stevie Wonder's Songs in
- 26:22Speaker 2: the Kia Life and Michael Jackson's Off the Wall. Like
- 26:26Speaker 2: even though I love those albums too, this was my
- 26:29Speaker 2: time and you know, get ready to go off to
- 26:32Speaker 2: college and kind of ever since high school really and
- 26:37Speaker 2: maybe even junior high.
- 26:38Speaker 1: School, like sinking myself into music.
- 26:41Speaker 2: And the messages and kind of learning from certain rappers
- 26:45Speaker 2: good or bad, but at the end of the day,
- 26:47Speaker 2: being entertained only built for Cuban links.
- 26:50Speaker 1: If I was describing for.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Someone who's like, Okay, well, what kind of album is it,
- 26:55Speaker 2: think of it like Street Mafia flick right, It's Coke
- 27:03Speaker 2: Rat before Coke Rat was Coke Rat. You know, there's
- 27:07Speaker 2: even sniffing at the beginning of one of the records, right,
- 27:13Speaker 2: and they don't have a cold. You know, it's this
- 27:19Speaker 2: predates the clips, you know what I'm saying. This predates Griselda.
- 27:24Speaker 2: You know, it inspires all these guys who we like now.
- 27:30Speaker 1: And it's just a very dope album.
- 27:32Speaker 2: So I know there'll probably be sales on vinyl or
- 27:37Speaker 2: new vinyl release and things like that. You know, and
- 27:40Speaker 2: if you had the album digitally for a while, just
- 27:44Speaker 2: go and support it, man, because the more we support
- 27:47Speaker 2: what we consider to be real hip hop, the more
- 27:52Speaker 2: the people with the power to present real hip hop will.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Feel like, not only is it profit the bulb of
- 28:00Speaker 1: this interest.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So there you have it. Where were you when ray
- 28:06Speaker 2: Kuon dropped only built for Cuban links? Were you in
- 28:10Speaker 2: the essence because you wasn't even born yet, or you
- 28:13Speaker 2: a grown man with kids, or were you like me,
- 28:17Speaker 2: about to go to school, college or high school or
- 28:19Speaker 2: whatever and you had the purple tape in your deck?
