Just so you know, it's gonna be loud. Get on your bikes and ride!
• 0:12
[upbeat music] All right, that's only the second to last time you folks have to actually listen to that probably. And I get to pull off. Mm. So I pull off my ear so I don't get the, the quick blast. Right.
• 0:29
[laughs] Hey, everybody, it's Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show 324. That means we've been doing this for, like, eight years or something. Mm. It's been a long time. Feels it. 2017- Well-... we started this show.
• 0:41
Well, yeah. And this is the second to last time we're gonna do this exact version of this show. We'll do another version of it at some point in the distance. What are you traversing?
• 0:51
Well, we, mostly JK and I, have sort of Milwaukee-ified this show from its original intent a little bit, which is, was more broad cycling around the world cycling. And- Mm... we, we just love Milwaukee so much.
• 1:05
We talk [laughs] about Milwaukee a lot. So we're going to split off this from that to be a little... I don't think our show will be that much different, but it'll be more Milwaukee-focused and have a different name.
• 1:16
Indeed. Mm. Instead of be- coming Full Spectrum Cycling, it will be Milwaukee By... dot dot dot. Dot, dot, dot. It could be Milwaukee By Bike. It could be M- Milwaukee By the River. It could be Milwaukee By the Brewery.
• 1:30
Kayak. Could be Milwaukee By Kayak. Could be by ducky. Even Milwaukee By Bus, possibly. Yes. You know what? There are... That's what I did last week. If you give me a chance, I'll spell out something. Right on. Go ahead.
• 1:42
Maybe even now. [laughs] Uh, by the way- Mm... everybody, let's, uh, let's go around the room and see who's here. Uh, let's see.
• 1:48
You got, you got Sven, you got JK, and we have Marcus Doucette sitting in on the brand-new pod mic over there. Yeah, no, so I recently have invested in a few pod mics. And, you know, my...
• 2:07
I've been on radio for a long time, 18 years, um, so- [laughs] Yeah. For sure... so you know what? I invested. I decided that if I was gonna stay in this, then I should own my own shit. Sure, sure.
• 2:25
Makes, makes- Can I, can I, can I, can I say the shit? Uh- Oh, yes... as, as often as you want. All right. [laughs] All right. Shit. We are, uh, we are Apple, uh, what do we call it? Explicit. Explicit. Yes. All right.
• 2:37
All right. And you know, there'll be shows where a lot of shit happens, and there'll be some where not much happens. I mean- And-... and sometimes shit is shitty. However, I have invested in some microphones,
• 2:50
and I hope to have a setup as sophisticated as your sexy [laughs] lady here. [laughs] Which is like, honestly, this is like, this is like a different kind of girl.
• 3:05
  [laughs] You know, like, I, I mean, I s- I mean, I c- I, I have eyes. I can see on- We've been, we've been working on this for a little while.
• 3:13
It just, it, it keeps, it keeps kinda running into, uh, monetary constraints, so I have to go make more money, then I throw it at this, and then it gets better, and then- Mm...
• 3:22
eventually, especially when the, uh, Studio One out there is done, this will be available for people to come in that are podcasting in their closet right now and wanna up their game a little bit.
• 3:34
So- Not somebody like you, who's already investing in all the kick-ass gear, which is- No, I mean, you know, I brought my own mic in here. Um- Yeah... I, I was excited to use it- [laughs]...
• 3:45
just because I thought I might sound a little bit nicer. However, you said studio one, but I'm gonna call this Studio Fun. St- [laughs] Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, we got Pee-wee Herman over there. He's, he's look- Yeah. Ah...
• 4:02
he's looking in on the, on the show with his, uh- Big old vacant eyes. So, you know, I know- All right, I'm gonna leave that alone. Um- [laughs] They are pretty vacant over there.
• 4:13
[laughs] You know, we- No, I'm, I'm, I'm, honestly, I, I feel, I feel that you both have been generous to provide a space where we can talk about
• 4:31
bikes initially. Initially, we'll talk about bikes. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, how do you wanna go? And bike, everything is bike adjacent as long as we talk to- Yeah, for sure.
• 4:39
I mean, like, just as a, as a, for instance- Mostly cars, but, um [laughs] Well, that, no, that's the thing. It's like, "Oh, yeah." Oh, okay.
• 4:45
So- "I was biking and I dropped my phone, and then I picked up my phone and it opened up this document that was talking about these cars." Now we're talking about cars. Right. Mm. See? See? Well- Boom, boom, boom, boom.
• 4:55
That's a boom, boom. That's how the... That's how you- Now we're actually talking about, like, a whole different thing, and, uh, you know what? The serpentine ways of my mind. Now you're talking about serpentine belts.
• 5:05
Those are in cars. And, [laughs] you know, it all gets in there. Leave the serpents out. [laughs] We are whole. So I've, I, I don't know- The-... how I come up with all these ideas for podcast names that are sort of,
• 5:19
have some kinda theme to them. But I was looking at, 'cause we have this little studio over here that could be two people, and I call it, like, the Fireside Chat area. It could also be my bedroom. It could be.
• 5:27
[laughs] It's very nice. Those are ridiculous chairs. Just kidding. [laughs] But what I was thinking is what about Tired Side Chat, and it's all about wheels and cars and bikes and motorcycles? It's like, we'll just...
• 5:38
It's a new thing. It's, it's a- Ah, I get it. Uh, you know what? I feel like that's- [laughs] Then you'll just have a flaming tire rolling down the road instead of the- Yeah, something that, a- Well-...
• 5:47
instead of the, uh- It's just an idea. [laughs] Well-... the fireplace going. Yeah... well, don't discard it. Nope. How about, how about this one? That's why it's recorded for posterity.
• 5:56
[laughs] And this, this could be, this could be all of us or any one of us: Old Guy on AI. Have you been learning AI? Are you an old dude? [laughs] Do you wanna tell people how you're using ChatGPT today?
• 6:06
Well, I'm here to tell you, folks, in one minute you can get out there and you can do it yourself. [laughs] Fuck that. [laughs] You know what?
• 6:18
I mean, I've been, um, I've been tried for time for my voice, and they have wanted me to inscript myself into that thing. Mm. Yeah. Oh, Jobe of- Yeah, and-... Lawnmower Man style shit? Yeah...
• 6:34
I, I want no part of it. I feel you. I want- I- I want zero part of it. I think that... It's like when white people stole Black music. [laughs] Well, it's been 60 years now.
• 6:51
I mean, I know, and we haven't forgotten. No. [laughs] Hey, uh, are you, are you a video gamer at all? You, you know who Aspyr is? They make, uh, they make the Tomb Raider franchise.
• 7:01
You know, I had to give it up when I had a son. Oh. Yeah. Good call. He does- So he doesn't- Yeah, 'cause he's gotta shine brighter than me 'cause I was only so good, but, um, he's better. So the...
• 7:13
Okay, so, like, this- I mean, like, dude, I mean, he's got, like, VR, and, like, his arms are waving and shit. Oh, yeah. Like, he fucking hurts himself, like, and he's, like, talking to his friends. Yeah.
• 7:23
It's like- I thought Wii was getting to the, the height of interactivity for a bit there. Uh-huh. And then it's like, "Oh, let's put the goggles on." I thought it was a joke. Wii Were. I thought it was a joke at first.
• 7:34
Wii Were. Like, the, the- Wii Were, Wii Were. And then I'm like- No... no, the... Now the... Everyone's running around like- But now Wii Won't... Jobe in freaking Lawnmower Man. But now we, but, but now Wii Won't.
• 7:42
[laughs] Wii. Yep. See how he did that? I, I... After the fourth Wii. [laughs] I tried. [laughs] I tried. So- Really, I tried. I tried... you even, you even slowly- Dude, I-... turned your head for- I, like, I-...
• 7:54
for the whose at home... I, like, w- It was a slow side-roll turn... I, I, I blinked. Like, dude- I blinked... really. I blinked twice, and that means that I have been kidnapped.
• 8:03
[laughs] Which is fucked up because I'm 50 and I ain't no fucking kid. [laughs] I'd just been napped. Yeah, you gotta pull up a newspaper first to get this open. Oh, well, I mean, have you seen this hair? Shit.
• 8:14
Oh, they will know. Yeah, it's... Yeah, it doesn't comb through. Um- [laughs] So just to cap this Aspyr thing off- Oh...
• 8:21
because I thought it was interesting, and you brought up the AI thing and them wanting to use your voice.
• 8:26
They had used an AI voice to replace one of the actors', the voice actors' in the game in France, and they got sued for it. Mm. And the original- As they should. Yeah, right? For sure. As they should.
• 8:37
No, I- As they should. Yeah. As they should because they can't take your resonance. You are not revenant. [laughs] Yeah, yep. I am I
• 8:55
within me, and it's not free. It's not free. Unfortunately. Um, uh, you know, you know, you can, um, actually, like, make a donation right now. [laughs] Uh, I could use some money.
• 9:09
Um- What, do you- Uh, we, we could all use some money. Do, do you have a, uh... do you have a Venmo or a- Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Marcus. Send, send- Marcus-... send Marcus money... Marcus Doucette.
• 9:19
Yeah, you know, like, you can find me. Like, you got Venmo. Couple, two, 300 bucks would probably be appropriate. You can Vend me some more
• 9:30
and- And then we get to that- Or, and then, and then, and then- Then we get to that top of that hill. I know, and then, and then I'll, and then I'll have to share, like, 10% or something like that. And you know what?
• 9:40
We haven't even gotten to bikes. We'll get there. Kind of 'cause... Well, yes. No, we're at the top of the hill already. We're at the top of the hill on our bicycles.
• 9:46
[bell ringing] This is, this is the traditional top of the hill sp-... Are you already done with your first beer? Yeah. Oh, that's why we're at the top of the hill. So when we get to the top of the hill- Yes...
• 9:54
we lose our beer. I kinda, I kinda- And you-... I kinda had to move that, that- And I haven't even taken a sip. Well, that's fine. Well, today's beer is courtesy of JK once again from Otto's Fine Liquor Market.
• 10:05
And I, I- And yes, I brought my props... I did see the Dashboard Jesus all up on your dashboard. Oh, look at you with your lederhosen on. [laughs] It is of the... I have brought the Oktoberfest here.
• 10:19
It is, uh- You know what? I'm gonna- This is like- I'm, uh, on, on- This is like Dan-... on, on, on top of this- This is like sausage-... I'm, I'm gonna take a sip. I'm gonna take a sip...
• 10:25
this is like sausage casing T-shirt. That's why- Yeah... I have the other one on top of it. It is. Sausage casing. I'm really holding my gut in right now. It's, uh...
• 10:32
It's, it's Lakefront Brewery's Oktoberfest Marzen Lager. It's pretty good. It's pretty- Dude-... good drinking... dude, y- I should take you to work. [laughs] You'll, you'll lose a bit. [laughs] Getting all sweaty.
• 10:46
I mean, like, and I don't mean the funniest parts. Oh. Uh-huh. Yeah. No. I'm- Oh, look what I got this time. I have a Milwaukee Polka Rye, uh, from Koziara. You've got something hap- Milwaukee Polka Rye.
• 10:57
You've got something happy in your hand. Yeah. But, uh- So now we're at the top of the hill. We talked about the Oktoberfest, uh, from Lakefront. This has been going on for a good long time.
• 11:06
But you haven't even asked me about my bikes. Let's talk about- That's what we're getting into... well, let's talk about some bikes, Marcus.
• 11:12
Now that we're at the top of the hill and we have all taken a sip of a fine, fine Lakefront product of Oktoberfest because the... it goes on until Sunday technically. Technically. And whatever, so- So- Yes...
• 11:24
you know what? I, you know, I fucking, I hate that it's called Oktoberfest and you drink it in September. It is kinda cockamamie. It's very counterintuitive. It's so fucking German. Yeah. It is honestly.
• 11:37
Like, you, you... One time I went to Europe and, uh, I had to sleep in a cabin with a German couple, and I left to use the bathroom, and they fucking locked me out.
• 11:55
B- because they were afraid- Becau-... or because they were- I hones-... brain dead or-... I honestly, I have... I, I don't even... I, like, I still wonder Ah, to this day...
• 12:07
I, I, to this day I'm like, were they racist or were they scared, or was it just time? Or sleep locking. [laughs] I have no idea and I will never know because I don't
• 12:26
spreckenzie. Yeah. It'll be like sleep, sleep, Sleep-Locktoberfest. Sleep- [laughs] Sleep-toberfest. Sleep-Locktoberfest. Sleep-Locktoberfest. I knew the Locktoberfest was gonna come into play at some point- Oh-...
• 12:39
in time... man, Mike... I knew it. I knew it... Mike, I knew there was, you know- I take all the tendrils- There's like, hon- honestly-... and put them together...
• 12:47
honestly there's, there's probably 800 I, there's probably 800 reasons that I love you. [laughs] 801 now. I know, but I'm gonna look at the camera. And aren't you a handsome- And I know, and Mike-...
• 12:59
you're a handsome gentleman... and, and, and Mike is gonna wonder which one of those 800 I chose. [laughs] All right. Oh, they're ranked? Oh, no.
• 13:09
Now that, now that we've, uh, done the foreplay, let's, uh, let's get into the bike portion of the show. [laughs] So Marcus- Yeah, I got a bike... tell us about your- I have, um, yeah... your favorite bike.
• 13:19
My favorite bike. Your favorite bike, please. Of all time? Of all- Currently in the stable, of all time. Uh- Yeah... you can go back to childhood or you can s- you know, maybe, uh, bring us up from 1975 until today.
• 13:34
I don't know. Uh. Or '78. Mm. Whenever you were born. Whenever you first got on a, your two-wheeled- I am-... freedom machine. I am 50. Do the math backwards. My brain- Ba- ma-... does not go backwards... no math...
• 13:48
it only goes forward. No math. [laughs] I hate... Well, yeah. Did you say no bath? No, no. [laughs] No math. No math. No math. Oh, sorry. My bad. [laughs] I can't hear 'cause I'm 50. Um- [laughs] No math.
• 13:59
No ma- [laughs] I mean, un- until it gets to actual talking about, uh, bike ratios- No, I-... and whatever, and it's like, yes, you need a lot of math, but I also, my eyes kinda glaze over- [laughs]...
• 14:09
and I kinda go take a nap in the corner. God, how do I even describe the bikes that I've owned? Did you have a Huffy? Did you have a, did you have a favorite first one? You wanna know what's fucked up? [laughs] Mm-hmm.
• 14:20
My dad worked at Huffy. Right on. Yeah. You know what's crazy about Huffy? Is that they just came out with, like, a new pro-level BMX freestyle frame. Good for them.
• 14:31
It is actually really nice, 'cause you, you kinda think of Huffy these days as a bike that is sold at, you know, chain stores, shitty Walmarts. It's, it's really about time that they turn their business around.
• 14:43
Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Um- Now that you- Yeah, I mean, and the first step was firing my dad. Um- [laughs] [laughs] I mean, he did not do a good job, but he was going through a tough spot in his life.
• 14:59
Did that impress upon you a Huffy in an early age, or at an early age? Kind of. You know, like, have you ever had kind of weed? Mm-hmm. Sorta kinda, like from Indiana, ditch weed. Well, I mean, no. Cabo San- No...
• 15:15
Cabo San Lucas? Not that kind? No, no. I mean, like- [laughs]... I mean, like, so, like, not downtown brown, but like... Ditch. No. No? No. Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no. I mean, kind. Oh.
• 15:30
You remember when people called weed kind? Yeah. Oh, yes. They don't call it kind anymore. No, they call it dank or... Every- What, what, y- y- hit- I've-... hit me, hit me to the tombs, daddy-o...
• 15:44
I've- Well, there's some, there are, there are some fun ones- All right... that will, that will- You called, you, you called me daddy-o before- [laughs]... and I'm gonna be daddy-o again, 'cause I used to call my dad
• 15:53
D-O. [laughs] Right on. 'Cause he was m- he was, he was, he was the god of my world. As most dads are. As they should be. My son doesn't think I'm a god [laughs] anymore. But you know what? He will.
• 16:11
Do you know what? He'll get his- Well, he's elderly now, so. Yeah, well, good. Um, [laughs] they, they push upon a progress, a process that diminishes all men. And don't allow it.
• 16:31
Right on. Don't allow it. So yeah, I had a Huffy. I also had, fuck, I had a Mongoose. Diamond Back. Oh yeah, Diamond Back. Did you have a Silver Streak that broke? 'Cause I had a Silver Streak.
• 16:44
No, I didn't have the Silver Streak. [clears throat] Um, what else did I own? I owned, I owned some 10 speeds, you know, like blah, blah, blah. You know, like with the, the ones with the levers and shit. Sure. Mm-hmm.
• 16:56
Um- Oh, on the bottom- Was there a-... the down tube? Uh- I had- That was the worst... man, I had them on the- Hated that... I had them on the down tube. I had them- [laughs]... on the top tube. Like- Hated that bike...
• 17:06
like, they were all the bad. Was there a time in your life when there were no bicycles at all and then you came back to them later, or have they always been around? They've always, every single time in my life
• 17:22
that I needed a ride, I had a bike. That's- Yep, yep... super sweet. I always- You know-... had a linebacker... I mean, that, yeah, linebacker. You know, like, you know, like, I...
• 17:35
You know, and then, like, when track bikes came around, oh God, what was it? Kevin Strady. I don't know if you know him. I don't even think he's around anymore.
• 17:46
I mean, I don't, like, not dead, but like- But not in the area? Yeah. Per se. No, I mean, he had kids and shit, like, whatever. You know, good for him. He's making something, uh, probably, um, of his life.
• 18:00
Uh, I remember seeing him, man, and he had this bike and- It, like the, like the, like the ratio on this track bike was fucking crazy.
• 18:17
It was, like, ridiculous. It was like a 51 and like 12. [laughs] Wow. I w- [laughs] Gotta have some legs for that. I know. No, I was like riding my bike, you know, like blah, blah, blah.
• 18:29
This dude, like, he, like, just- Ready for the velodrome... dude, he just like- Boom... oh, man. Boom. No, he was- Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom... this was, this was at the beginning [coughs]
• 18:40
of all of the track bike shit. And- Mm-hmm... he just passed me, and I was like, "I fucking need one of those." And I proceeded to get a couple. Oh, fuck, I don't even know, I don't even remember the makes, the marks.
• 18:59
Uh, man, I've owned so many bikes. But I'll tell you my favorite bike is the one I currently own. Uh, it's a Milwaukee frame. They gave me a bike for free. Over from, uh, Ben Cycles over that way? Yeah.
• 19:15
Oh, the good old Lincoln- Yeah... [clears throat] Lincoln Avenue? No. Oh, man. Yep. I used to bike down there. [coughs] And like- I love that spot... and I would, I, I would bike down there- Mm-hmm... and buy parts.
• 19:26
Like, Ben, have you ever met Ben? On occasion. I know not r- Not the, I don't, yeah, the, uh, Vince and Drew and- Vince... yeah. Vince, Vince. Yeah. Vince. Vince would be the son of Ben. All right, fine.
• 19:40
Or, or even maybe- Fine, fine... grandson, actually. Yeah. Yeah, whatever. Yeah. When, yeah, when they- Still, still family... run it over into the theater next door, the- Oh, that is such a cool place...
• 19:47
the Warehouse Theatre. All right, so, so- It's in San Antonio... yeah, I know. So Ben's been Vince for a while. Um, I, you know, oh, and like also that theater- Mm-hmm... where you'd go in and you would...
• 20:00
To this day, I bought the best handlebars I ever bought in my entire life. They were Ross handlebars. They, they kinda like, they flanged out, and they were the [click], and like I sawed them off, you know?
• 20:16
I- [laughs] You know? As one will do to handlebars. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. So I sawed them off, like, uh, and so they were upside down. And man, I rode the fuck out of that shit. [laughs] And, um, yeah.
• 20:31
Uh, but yeah, I've done a lot of stuff on a bike. The worst- Is it the, is it the Bruiser out of fucking- Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, the Bruiser. Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's a black Bruiser. It's got all the embellishments.
• 20:42
It's got like, uh, um, the beer, the, the- Well, you were doing some, uh, you were doing some bike polo and, weren't you? Oh, well, you, now, now you're taking me back again.
• 20:53
[laughs] With a little bit of the- No, um, before, before bike polo was a thing, I did bike polo. Uh-huh. Yeah. No, man, I, we, man, we rode all kinds of weird shit.
• 21:09
[laughs] Like fucking small bikes, tall bikes- [laughs]... all kinds of shit. Small bikes are making all the comeback now. I forget what Luns is calling them, but he's been making a few. Van Luns? No.
• 21:20
Dave, Dave Van Luns, who is a Lego fanatic with Von Munns. Yeah. [laughs] Of c- of course, Von Munns and Luns have to be- Oh... in the same ecosphere. Yeah. You know?
• 21:30
[laughs] They're, they're, they're Lego- It's like they were destined-... Lego. They were destined to, like- Oh... coincide with each other- Yeah... no matter what. For sure.
• 21:36
You know, I, I- And over Legos is the best part. [laughs] Man, I, you know, y- you say Von Munns, but I knew him as Blue Leader. Yeah, Blue. [laughs] Yeah. In the old, uh, messenger days? Yep. Yeah.
• 21:51
No, I, you know, I, um, I fucked with them for a bit, uh, back when they were down on Water Street and stuff. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Right acro- right across from The Door? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. The Swinging Door. Yeah.
• 22:04
Still a great place to go, by the way. Yeah. Yeah, it's, n- now there's a really good Thai banh mi place right over there. Oh, yeah, Zankya. Yeah, that was right around the corner from- Yeah...
• 22:15
uh, Beer Break or whatever that was. I, no, I, no, I have half a sandwich in my car right now. Half a, half a sandwich? [laughs] Yeah.
• 22:21
So Marcus, I th- I know that I'd seen you riding the, the fixie or the, you know, the more single speedy kinda thing. But I remember a long time ago- What do you remember?... you got a fat bike. Oh, I did.
• 22:34
And, and I, I don't know if it was, it was a, was it a- It's-... Pugsley? Is it purple? Is it a Moonlander? I forgot what it was. Surly. It's a Surly one of those. It's a Surly. Yeah. It's a Surly.
• 22:42
Me and my- It's a Moonlander. Yeah. If I, if I, if I do recall. No, it's, no, it's, no, it's not. It's, um- It, it's a Pug. No, it's a Pug. Um- I thought it was a Moonlander...
• 22:50
yeah, but unfortunately, me and- I felt wrong, damn it... un- unfortunately, me and my wife are not getting along right now, and so it's stuck in the garage. Oh, man. The garage. Ah. Yeah. Yeah.
• 23:02
We should go rescue that thing. You know what? You guys could do it. [laughs] We, we got some guys that could do it. I don't know if we're gonna do it. Man.
• 23:12
But, but I will say this- I might, I, I'm gonna need some guys to move out everything from that house because, I mean, she owns the house and she has the sofas, but like everything else is mine.
• 23:28
Yeah, that's a bad situation. That's a terrible situation. We, we do have to get the Pug back though, because- All right, let's do it...
• 23:34
because we have now a good nine-mile beach run from Port Washington all the way up to Harrington Beach on the sand. I don't even know if it's rideable at this point. Oh, yes. We can make it rideable.
• 23:44
