- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Back to you, Dennogy.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Alrighty.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: Hi, everyone.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: Today I'm sitting with Harry Mack from Carrie's Florals.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: I say that right.
- 2:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Hi, Harry.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: Thank you for coming today.
- 2:41SPEAKER_06: Thank you for having me.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: I appreciate it.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: So I met Harry a few months ago at a party.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: And you know me, I'm a talker sometimes and found out that Harry likes to hike.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Remember we talked about the city.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: He likes to hike and Harry loves flowers.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: And you know me, I love flowers.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so Harry owns, carries florals in Pineville, North Carolina, at the Black Lion at Pineville.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: No, is it Southern Lion?
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Southern Lion.
- 3:18SPEAKER_06: Southern Lion.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: At the mall, Pineville Mall.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: But we're gonna get into all of that, Harry.
- 3:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: Okay, so tell us, how did you get started in your creative, creative world?
- 3:30SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 3:31SPEAKER_06: So it would have to go back to, of course, to my childhood, um, just growing up with my grandparents who were garden, who always had a garden.
- 3:42SPEAKER_06: They that was their after work, you know, they they would go into the garden.
- 3:46SPEAKER_06: So we were in their backyard and we just planting vegetables um and flowers.
- 3:52SPEAKER_06: It was the thing.
- 3:53SPEAKER_06: My grand, my grandfather, um, his front was just full of all kinds of uh foliage of flowers.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: So it was your grandfather and not your grandmother.
- 4:01SPEAKER_06: It was my grandfather, yeah.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: It's always so dope when it's the grandfather.
- 4:06SPEAKER_06: It was the grandfather, he planted with seeds, and then he just liked to watch things grow.
- 4:10SPEAKER_06: And I love planting with seeds and watch things grow.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: Yes, it's there's something about it.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: It's something about it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: It's something about it.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: It's so simple, but it's something about it.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: And that seems to be the theme we all are getting back to things we did in our childhood.
- 4:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 4:25SPEAKER_06: If we can go back to childhood now.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: With no bills.
- 4:28SPEAKER_06: With no bills, it would be now.
- 4:31SPEAKER_06: I want to transition back.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: Sometimes I do.
- 4:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_06: So that's you know, growing grandparents, and and then um, so I I that was definitely the start.
- 4:42SPEAKER_06: And of course, as I got older, um, and just in my mom's yard, my mom can make anything grow.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 4:49SPEAKER_06: I I don't know what it is she can make, and she can cut some flower stems and just put it in either water or some dirt, and it just grows.
- 4:58SPEAKER_06: So her yard um just looks like a whole botanical garden.
- 5:01SPEAKER_06: Um, and that's like gear round.
- 5:04SPEAKER_06: And she she just makes things grow.
- 5:07SPEAKER_06: Um, and so I just I just always flowers.
- 5:10SPEAKER_06: I got in trouble one time when I was probably about eight years old, cutting um the neighbors' flowers.
- 5:15SPEAKER_06: And uh I never forget Miss Cooley down the street.
- 5:18SPEAKER_06: She called my mom and she was like, you know, I had to check out a childhood name.
- 5:23SPEAKER_06: And so she called her and said, you know, Junior's down there and cut my flowers.
- 5:28SPEAKER_06: So I think I was supposed to get a whooping, but I don't think I did it.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: You know, you talked your way out there.
- 5:33SPEAKER_06: No, because I carried them home, put them in a little something, and gave them to my mom.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, so mom appreciated.
- 5:37SPEAKER_06: I appreciate it.
- 5:38SPEAKER_06: I just knew not do it again.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think that's universal because Aunt Seal was our flower person, plant person, and we could not get an Aunt Seal's plants and flowers.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, some of them did get a beat, and I didn't, but yeah, but yeah, yeah, I think that's cool.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: It's something ancestral about it, too.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think you know, just passed down from generation to generation.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: So you always they didn't have to force you to garden.
- 6:02SPEAKER_06: They know, they did not have to force me to garden.
- 6:04SPEAKER_06: They had to force me to rake leaves.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 6:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but not not to garden, not to garden.
- 6:10SPEAKER_06: Not garden.
- 6:10SPEAKER_06: No, that was that was fun.
- 6:12SPEAKER_06: And of course, you know, when you was gardening, you're growing vegetables, um, especially I love tomatoes, um, both red and green tomatoes.
- 6:19SPEAKER_06: And you know, you get to eat something that you have grown, you know.
- 6:23SPEAKER_06: You know, green beans, and I didn't like shelling the peas, but I like picking the peas and planting the peas.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: I didn't like the shell either.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's funny, now I'm shelling as an adult.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: I said I never was shell again, but now I'm doing all those things I hate it.
- 6:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I hate it.
- 6:38SPEAKER_06: So I have to remind people now we weren't country.
- 6:40SPEAKER_06: Okay, we was just southern.
- 6:42SPEAKER_06: Green, we from Greenville, South Carolina.
- 6:45SPEAKER_06: It's not the country, it's just the South.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: I was gonna ask you the difference.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:51SPEAKER_06: I got a little southern dialect, and I have I have between the southern dialect, and my father was from Santee, South Carolina.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:58SPEAKER_06: So it's the Geechee part and the southern part.
- 7:00SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: But we weren't country.
- 7:02SPEAKER_06: We're not country.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: We're not country.
- 7:03SPEAKER_06: Not knocking the country, people.
- 7:05SPEAKER_06: We ain't country.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Because I came from the country.
- 7:06SPEAKER_06: You came from the country.
- 7:07SPEAKER_06: I came from the country.
- 7:08SPEAKER_06: My grandparents came from the country.
- 7:10SPEAKER_06: I ain't covered.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: You did come from the okay, okay.
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: So there's a little bouginess between country and southern.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: I learned today.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: I didn't know.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: I didn't know that.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: But yeah, let me ask you a question.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: So did your grandparents make the tinctures, like the medicine from the oh god.
- 7:27SPEAKER_06: So my I I grew um, I was always a little bit above, beyond my time.
- 7:33SPEAKER_06: I always around old people versus people my age.
- 7:37SPEAKER_06: So there were these two ladies that lived up the street from me, um, Julie Mae and Kat.
- 7:43SPEAKER_06: They were aunt, they were an aunt and a niece.
- 7:46SPEAKER_06: And then their um mother, um, grandma C, she lived with them.
- 7:51SPEAKER_06: So they lived right across the street from each other.
- 7:53SPEAKER_06: So they were from, now they were from the country.
- 7:56SPEAKER_06: They were from Belton, Honey of Pass, South Carolina.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Who?
- 7:59SPEAKER_06: Belton and Honey Pass, South Carolina.
- 8:01SPEAKER_06: Real country.
- 8:02SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 8:03SPEAKER_06: So they made all the herbs and every medicine for everything.
- 8:08SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 8:09SPEAKER_06: I mean, everything.
- 8:11SPEAKER_06: So, you know, they lived, uh, Jume lived to be like 101, Kat lived to be like 90 something, Grandma C lived to be like a 90-something, and they made everything from turpentine to the T's to whatever intercepted.
- 8:29SPEAKER_06: I mean, and never was sick.
- 8:31SPEAKER_06: And if you got a little sick, it may last it for a day or two.
- 8:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:34SPEAKER_06: So they made everything.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: I think there's something to it.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: They fooled us with the medicine.
- 8:40SPEAKER_06: Ooh, yes.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they fooled us with the medicine, which we do need the medicine sometimes.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: But yeah, yeah.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: See, that's I love that.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: Like I love to research the herbs and things in my next chapter.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: That's what I want to do.
- 8:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, I want to do that.
- 8:53SPEAKER_06: It's crazy.
- 8:54SPEAKER_06: I had I hadn't thought about that in so long.
- 8:56SPEAKER_06: Um yeah.
- 8:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:58SPEAKER_06: My love, my Charlotte, my Charlotte Greenville sister, um, BJ, it was her mom, Bobby Joe's mom.
- 9:03SPEAKER_06: And you know, just thinking about that, we yeah, we we never never threw nothing away, any kind of anything that you grew up with that was never thrown away.
- 9:11SPEAKER_06: They always made something out of it.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, if it was compost or anything.
- 9:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: And I find on social media people are going back to that.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: You know, it was, I think it was a better way, a healthier way of living.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: I know a few of my me is a few of my friends, we buy flowers on Sundays.
- 9:27SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 9:27SPEAKER_04: You know what I'm saying?
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: So it's like we all going back to our roots per se.
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Because there's just something about it.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: It seems so simple, but it's so, I don't know what the word is, like uplifting, maybe.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 9:39SPEAKER_06: It's uplifting, it's here, it makes you feel good.
- 9:42SPEAKER_06: So, I mean, that's just the thing, you know, just having the flowers and uh being able to put the flowers together for me is is therapeutic.
- 9:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_06: You know, designing flowers.
- 9:52SPEAKER_06: Like I can zone out.
- 9:53SPEAKER_06: I don't need, I don't need music.
- 9:55SPEAKER_06: I don't need, you know, to watch anything.
- 9:58SPEAKER_06: Um, in my floral studio, I have uh these water fountains.
- 10:03SPEAKER_06: And for me, that, you know.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: That's enough.
- 10:05SPEAKER_06: That's enough.
- 10:05SPEAKER_06: That's enough.
- 10:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah, real simple.
- 10:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: So you did so you started out in childhood around the produce, the flowers.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:12SPEAKER_02: So you went through your teenage years, mid-20s.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: You stay with that?
- 10:17SPEAKER_06: I did not.
- 10:18SPEAKER_06: So um came came to Charlotte to uh go to school at UNCC and um thought I was gonna be this attorney, you know.
- 10:27SPEAKER_06: That that was the thing, you know, because you know, I just had the gift of, you know, just talking and being able to convince do stuff, you know.
- 10:36SPEAKER_06: And so I ended up working um in nonprofit, working with um the homeless population.
- 10:43SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 10:44SPEAKER_06: So I worked in the homeless population for probably about 18 to 20 years doing that, um, working, especially all through the pandemic, um, to house, you know, people who were houseless um at the time.
- 10:58SPEAKER_06: And in the last now uh going into five years is when the opportunity presented itself for me to um have my own business and creative.
- 11:11SPEAKER_06: And uh just kind of run it back a little bit, um, when I got to Charlotte and was doing this, and in between after school and one job and going before I got the job working with the homeless population, I was trying to like navigate, doing this little bit here, doing a little retail, trying to figure it out.
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: And um, I met this lady, um I call her my Charlotte mom, and so um, Miss Addie Watson Moore, she was like this pillar community, she was a retired principal, and she was very big in a lot of social groups, like the links, the moles, carousels, and all this.
- 11:48SPEAKER_06: And she would have these um lunches at her home.
- 11:52SPEAKER_06: And she was big at Thanksgiving and Christmas for her family.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:56SPEAKER_06: So I connected with her and she helped create my creative side in doing tablescapes and designs.
- 12:06SPEAKER_06: Because her whole house would turn into this whole place for Thanksgiving, you know, and Christmas, and she would, you know, have all these different um dining tables throughout the house from upstairs to downstairs.
- 12:17SPEAKER_06: Okay, you know, and so we would decorate for Christmas starting, you know, before Thanksgiving.
- 12:24SPEAKER_06: So it gave me an opportunity then to meet a lot of people in Charlotte who she was connected with.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:30SPEAKER_06: And then they would ask me to come and do this, and they would ask me to come and do that.
- 12:33SPEAKER_06: So it just began to be a snowball effect from there.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:37SPEAKER_06: And um I met, I met so many people who have paved the way for me to be able to now have my own floral studio.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: So you've always been a creep, you've always done something creative.
- 12:50SPEAKER_06: Always be something creative.
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you do tablescapes.
- 12:54SPEAKER_06: I do table, I love doing tablescapes.
- 12:56SPEAKER_06: Really?
- 12:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_06: I love doing tablescapes.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: So you still do that or you just do it for yourself?
- 13:01SPEAKER_06: I I just do them, so I have, you know, if somebody called me, they say, well, you know, I am, you know, I'm I'm trying to figure out my dining table, trying to do this.
- 13:09SPEAKER_06: All right, yeah.
- 13:10SPEAKER_06: You know, I'm definitely gonna incorporate flowers into it.
- 13:13SPEAKER_06: Of course.
- 13:14SPEAKER_06: But creating a tablescape, yeah.
- 13:16SPEAKER_06: For an event, for for your dinner.
- 13:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_06: Um, I am uh what I consider micro uh kind of florist, like the big elaborate events and things.
- 13:26SPEAKER_06: Um, it's just not my style.
- 13:28SPEAKER_06: I like a more intimate, hands-on.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 13:31SPEAKER_06: So I like do you really step back?
- 13:32SPEAKER_06: Because sometimes you know, you do all that and you be like, I'm tired.
- 13:36SPEAKER_06: You can't really enjoy it.
- 13:36SPEAKER_06: Enjoy it.
- 13:37SPEAKER_06: You know, that's for me.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I've never thought about it.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: So, like uh a huge wedding would be too much, or yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 13:47SPEAKER_06: However, however.
- 13:50SPEAKER_06: There's however.
- 13:51SPEAKER_06: Uh I I'm gifted enough to be able to outsource it with some people.
- 13:59SPEAKER_06: I have I have people, you know, yeah.
- 14:01SPEAKER_06: I have some people in my phone that I can probably say.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: You always need some people.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: I always need some people.
- 14:05SPEAKER_06: And let's see how can we make this happen?
- 14:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: So I can do that.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: So you're not one of those people like, uh, I want to do everything and you're not doing it wrong.
- 14:14SPEAKER_06: No, no, we don't even want to talk about the gatekeeping part, no.
- 14:17SPEAKER_06: No, no, we get to that later.
- 14:19SPEAKER_06: We'll get to that.
- 14:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, let's make sure we do get to that.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: We didn't know there was a thing in the floral industry.
- 14:25SPEAKER_06: It's everywhere, it's everywhere.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: And okay, so let me get sidetracked for a minute.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_02: Because this is the second time I've had a conversation this week about gatekeepers.
- 14:33SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, because I have a uh I know an esthetician, and that's what she was saying.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: She said, you know, she wants to go to certain events, but people aren't welcoming.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: And then a certain thing that she wants to see.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: And I told her, I said, create it for yourself.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: Because I found out in creative spaces too.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: But you know, and I got kind of um, what's the word?
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: You know, like when you it kind of deters you, yeah, right?
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: And it dawned on me one day, just create what you want to see.
- 15:03SPEAKER_06: Disappointed, you get very disappointed.
- 15:05SPEAKER_06: Disappointed, like, oh, you have your social media.
- 15:07SPEAKER_06: Like, you're so welcome.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Social media fools you.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, but if you don't know better, so I would say if you don't know better.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: So I told her, create what you want to see.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, right.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: You know, because what which we're gonna get to is the gatekeeping.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: I said it happens, it happens in every I talked to a cyclist today.
- 15:24SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: They gatekeeping cycling.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: It's a couple of things.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: I found out today if you commute, if you commute the work on the bike, the cyclists look down on you.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: They don't really consider you a cyclist.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's everything.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: It's I think people are people sometimes.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, people are people.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, people are people sometimes.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think it's good that you always had a creative outlet.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: Because a lot of times we talk to people and it's like they didn't always have it, and then something happened.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: It had pulled them back into the creative world.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: So that's good that you always had something.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: So that's good.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's real good.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: And I'm glad you have people.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: I have people because we always need people.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: We always need people, we always need people.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, I got lost in my thoughts, y'all.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: Let me pull up my questions.
- 16:14SPEAKER_02: Tay, help me.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, so while Dina is there, I know when it comes to like weddings, you know, we all know that in itself is a beast.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Um but you have taken on weddings, correct?
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 16:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: When you do the the floral sets for weddings, is there a different feeling or a different vibe that you get from just doing it for somebody, uh someone's house?
- 16:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:47SPEAKER_06: It's a whole different kind of state, a whole different vibe.
- 16:50SPEAKER_06: Because here at a wedding, um, you have you know, multiple people that are gonna come to this event, you know, to ensure your wedding is a special thing.
- 17:02SPEAKER_06: And the bride is already usually kind of like on edge and everything.
- 17:07SPEAKER_06: So you want everything that you're responsible for to be right.
- 17:11SPEAKER_06: And you know, you and and you want to execute it correctly, um, and and you don't want to cause, you know, any more, you know, pressure on on the bride or the groom or the mom's bride or whoever else.
- 17:25SPEAKER_06: And so my take is when I kind of show up to a waiting event, is um depend, I I try to give myself maybe two to three hours before the event because I want everybody out of the way.
- 17:38SPEAKER_06: You know, I want the linen laid on the on the table, I want the chairs done, and you know, whatever archway, whatever.
- 17:46SPEAKER_06: I need all that to be done and everything.
- 17:48SPEAKER_06: And all I'm doing is laying my flowers because once I put them flowers down, I need for them flowers to be in place where they're supposed to be.
- 17:56SPEAKER_06: I don't want nobody moving them anything around.
- 17:59SPEAKER_06: I don't I don't want you to say, oh, well, you know, let's just fluff.
- 18:02SPEAKER_06: No, I when I walk out of there, that means the event is about to start like 30 minutes, so you don't have time to move nothing.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: So you're very organized, very organized.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: And that's important.
- 18:11SPEAKER_06: With that.
- 18:14SPEAKER_06: With the flower in there.
- 18:16SPEAKER_06: Very, I don't know.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: Well, that means you're reliable.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna be able to do it.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: And people can call on you and they know it's gonna get done.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: So that's very, very important.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: It's very important.
- 18:26SPEAKER_06: So it's yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: So you found out you didn't want to be an attorney.
- 18:32SPEAKER_06: So I found out you want to be an attorney, you know.
- 18:34SPEAKER_06: I mean, just um after working, you know, in the homeless population, um, I experienced I experienced some burnout.
- 18:44SPEAKER_06: And that's just the burnout from uh a lot of political and social um aspects of things with how people things just change.
- 18:59SPEAKER_06: It's just so much you have to yeah, so much.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:03SPEAKER_06: That's a whole different ballgame.
- 19:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:04SPEAKER_06: Um, so I one of my my uh my sister now, so Saya Nichols, shout out to Sayan Nichols, she's the owner of Southern Lion.
- 19:14SPEAKER_06: Okay, she and her son, Rich.
- 19:17SPEAKER_06: Um, and we have been family friends for about 30 years.
- 19:22SPEAKER_06: So um she has her own story in itself, but she is a a woman of faith who can sell ice to an Eskimo.
- 19:33SPEAKER_06: Yes, you know, who can who can sell anything.
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: So she, you know, came up with this whole concept of creating the Southern Lion from another, from when uh the black lion had uh had owner had retired.
- 19:49SPEAKER_06: And so she knew of my passion with flowers.
- 19:52SPEAKER_06: So um she presented me this opportunity.
- 19:56SPEAKER_06: I I never forget.
- 19:57SPEAKER_06: She was she was talking about, talk about, and I was like, okay, yes, yeah, okay, all right.
- 20:01SPEAKER_06: She so one Sunday, she's a phenomenal cook.
- 20:05SPEAKER_06: I mean, she she she can cook.
- 20:07SPEAKER_06: So one Sunday, she invited me over and she cooked us prime rib.
- 20:13SPEAKER_06: This one before I stopped eating the red meat.
- 20:15SPEAKER_06: She cooked us prime rib and some carrots and mashed potatoes, and she sold me on, you know, Carrie's floor design.
- 20:23SPEAKER_06: It was like, okay, you this is what we're gonna do, this is what we're gonna do.
- 20:26SPEAKER_06: And I was like, mm-mm.
- 20:28SPEAKER_06: No, no, you know, yeah, you know, I was comfortable because I was making a little, you know, my money was all right, you know.
- 20:35SPEAKER_06: You know, I was all right, and I was like, I'm not so it was stepping out on faith.
- 20:39SPEAKER_06: And when I say it's a it's a faith, faith, you know, I did not know I had this much faith.
- 20:45unknown: Oof.
- 20:45SPEAKER_06: I I didn't know in every day.
- 20:48SPEAKER_06: I was like, okay, um, all right, we made it today, you know.
- 20:53SPEAKER_06: Uh-huh.
- 20:54SPEAKER_06: Okay, we're gonna make it, we're gonna make it tomorrow too.
- 20:56SPEAKER_06: Make it tomorrow too, because I, you know, I got faith.
- 20:58SPEAKER_06: You know, you got you know, I I talk to myself.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 21:02SPEAKER_06: And I when I say talk to myself, I I have a full-blown conversation with myself.
- 21:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 21:07SPEAKER_06: My friends gave me this shirt that I forgot to say something about talking.
- 21:11SPEAKER_06: I talked to myself, I answered myself.
- 21:13SPEAKER_06: Because who's your who who better know you than yourself?
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 21:18SPEAKER_06: And you know, you know, yeah, and you're not really gonna tell yourself something wrong.
- 21:22SPEAKER_06: And if you tell you something wrong, you was like, okay, you you did, and you knew you were wrong.
- 21:27SPEAKER_06: So you gonna blame?
- 21:29SPEAKER_06: Right, yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_06: So I talked to myself.
- 21:31SPEAKER_06: So anyway, she sold me all that, and here we are.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: Ah, she sold ice to the Eskimo.
- 21:36SPEAKER_06: So ice to the Eskimo.
- 21:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she stretched my face out like she still be stretched my out left.
- 21:44SPEAKER_06: So yeah, and so and so here we are.
- 21:46SPEAKER_06: Here we are.
- 21:47SPEAKER_06: We we we going through it.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: Now, did you go full time or did you ease into it?
- 21:53SPEAKER_06: I eased into it a little bit, and it just was not working.
- 21:57SPEAKER_06: It wasn't working.
- 21:59SPEAKER_06: So um I had just landed a new job and I was like, okay, and it was it was remote.
- 22:08SPEAKER_06: So I was like, you know, I can I can kind of do, I can do both, you know.
- 22:12SPEAKER_06: And it that that didn't work out.
- 22:15SPEAKER_06: That didn't work out.
- 22:16SPEAKER_06: Uh trying to navigate because I wanted to be able to execute what people, what my customers, you know, expected from me.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:27SPEAKER_06: And you know, it'll take them maybe one or two bad kind of reviews.
- 22:30SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 22:31SPEAKER_06: You know, something, you know, just if this one little petal turn, you know, turn brown, they flowers, they real, they fresh.
- 22:38SPEAKER_06: Okay, they might, yeah.
- 22:39SPEAKER_06: And then so in order to be able to really execute what needed to happen, then you know, uh, just with full time.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: God will make us uncomfortable when we're not doing what we're supposed to.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: How long is that uncomfortable last though?
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: You say it again.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: How long does the uncomfortable last?
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: How long does it last?
- 23:03SPEAKER_01: I guess until you do what you're supposed to do.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: Now that's what I found for myself.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: When I'm talking to myself, we talk to you.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: I found that, yeah, if I'm not doing what I'm supposed to do.
- 23:12SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: And when I start doing the things, then I'm a little more comfortable.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: Now I'm still scared.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: I have that fear because there's something new, but yeah, I don't have that uncomfort anymore.
- 23:23SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 23:24SPEAKER_04: All right.
- 23:24SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: It's like a piece I was supposed to be here in a sense.
- 23:27SPEAKER_06: Okay, yeah.
- 23:28SPEAKER_06: You think that's how you feel.
- 23:29SPEAKER_06: That's how, yeah.
- 23:30SPEAKER_06: I know I'm supposed to be there.
- 23:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 23:32SPEAKER_06: So besides having that part of, you know, the floral studio, and then helping her with kind of managing, you know, the store too.
- 23:41SPEAKER_06: And we we always want to make sure that the store is is like, you know, when you walk in, you're ex is an experience.
- 23:49SPEAKER_06: You want to create an experience in this other life.
- 23:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 23:51SPEAKER_06: So um that that in itself is is an experience.
- 23:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: And you know, that's all that's the second question that we always ask.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: How has your support been?
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: But your support sold you ice.
- 24:07SPEAKER_04: My support, so my support, so fed you.
- 24:10SPEAKER_04: She's still selling me ice.
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: She made space for you.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: So your support has been, see, yeah, you were uncomfortable.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: But God, God gives you everything you need to go out and do it.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: So I think that's a great story.
- 24:23SPEAKER_06: She ain't fed me lately, though.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: She fed you lately.
- 24:26SPEAKER_06: She ain't fed me lately.
- 24:27SPEAKER_06: She don't cook no more.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, she may be, she may be an empty nester now.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: But I'm sure she still takes care of you in other ways.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: She may feed your soul and spirit.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: And what's her name again?
- 24:39SPEAKER_06: Sonia.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: Miss Sonia, I hope you're watching.
- 24:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: I know you're feeding him still.
- 24:43SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 24:46SPEAKER_06: Nah, she don't cook, she don't cook no more.
- 24:48SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 24:48SPEAKER_06: She didn't she uh make her husband cook.
- 24:51SPEAKER_06: So every once in a while I might get a little meatball.
- 24:52SPEAKER_06: So just in case he end up listening to that.
- 24:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 24:55SPEAKER_06: Because he's turned into the super cook.
- 24:57SPEAKER_06: Oh, you know.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: I Harry deserves some prime rib again.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Or some lamb chops.
- 25:03SPEAKER_06: Lamb chops.
- 25:03SPEAKER_06: Or them meatballs, Richard, that you be making them now.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, the meatballs, he's fine with the meatballs.
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna advocate for your meals.
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:13SPEAKER_04: So anyway, yeah.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I think that's very inspiring though.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: You know, because we talk to a lot of creatives here, and everybody's always afraid.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: Like they think they can't do it.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Like, but if you don't try, you don't know.
- 25:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: You know, you don't know.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: So I'm happy for you for that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: I'm glad people made room for you.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: And made space for you to do it.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: And you've been booming ever since, huh?
- 25:38SPEAKER_06: I've been blooming.
- 25:39SPEAKER_06: Blooming.
- 25:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:40SPEAKER_06: I need to continue to bloom.
- 25:41SPEAKER_06: I gotta bloom a little bit more.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, it's coming though.
- 25:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's coming.
- 25:45SPEAKER_06: I believe.
- 25:46SPEAKER_06: I believe that.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: It's here actually.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: Not coming.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: It's here.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: It's here.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: It's here.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: So a few months ago, Harry had his first floral event.
- 25:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah, blooming bond.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: Bloomin' bond.
- 25:58SPEAKER_06: Bloomin'.
- 25:59SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 26:01SPEAKER_06: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: So I I took a girlfriend of mine for her birthday.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: We have her in common.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: We found out on social media.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: So when I walked in, my mind was blown.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: So it was completely like when you talked about you all creating a space.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: I was not expecting what I walked into.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: I was just like, oh wow.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: It was everything.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: It was you create, it was so intentional.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: I left from there and I was like, this was an intentional event.
- 26:32SPEAKER_06: What's a creative experience?
- 26:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 26:33SPEAKER_02: Like I told everybody about it.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: I was like, oh, I I'm gonna take the, I'm gonna take the next one.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 26:39SPEAKER_02: If I can, if I'm if I'm available and Tay don't have me working.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: What do you mean if Tay?
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying, if we we're not booked them busy, we're blooming.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: We blooming.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: We're blooming.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: We popping out and sprouting and we doing all of it.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: All the things.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: So yeah, so um the event, I mean, the flowers were displayed like nothing else.
- 27:04SPEAKER_02: We were all trying to steal your display.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: There was a display out of this world.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: We were like, when you were doing the raffle, we kept saying, he's gonna raffle that up.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: We just knew you were gonna raffle off the uh off the um display.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: The display was beautiful, the food was beautiful.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: You know, you had curated drinks for the occasion that were everything.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: It was just like, and we talk about people not being welcoming, but all of your guests were, I think, were a reflection of you.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, wow.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I really do.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: Because like sometimes I walk into place when I'm like, everybody's not nice, but everybody was like walking up to everybody, talking and like just being so welcoming.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: And I was like, this was so, this was how I like to spend my Sundays.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, yeah, it was just so, so good.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: I was just like, I couldn't believe that was your first one.
- 27:57SPEAKER_06: That was the first one.
- 27:58SPEAKER_06: That was the first one.
- 27:59SPEAKER_06: That was your first one.
- 28:00SPEAKER_06: Um I can't even exactly remember how I came up with the idea and the concept, and so it kind of just goes back to all right, I'm gonna do this, I'm step out on faith, I'm gonna do this.
- 28:11SPEAKER_06: Uh, I made a list of people that um I wanted to invite, and then I asked them to help me to be able to increase the numbers and you invite somebody, and they did just that.
- 28:24SPEAKER_06: And then when y'all talk about, so yeah, y'all tore up the display piece, and so man, that's me just going back, you know, asking, um asking people for help.
- 28:36SPEAKER_06: Um like that, that is it was a large-scale, beautiful kind of a thing, and you know, and I I knew I could do it, I didn't have the time to do it, but I didn't know to what magnitude I could do it.
- 28:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 28:49SPEAKER_06: So, you know, I asked my my buddy John, and I was like, hey, could you help me do this?
- 28:53SPEAKER_06: And and you know, John knock it out.
- 28:57SPEAKER_06: Okay, James.
- 28:58SPEAKER_06: So, and so that's that's how you know I learned to be able to ask for help and you know, be able to execute the event, you know, go to Alicia.
- 29:06SPEAKER_06: She has the whole design event, absolute event designs, and she does her thing, you know, over here with the backdrop.
- 29:13SPEAKER_06: And then Keanu comes in with the food and the grazing table, and we have some good food.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: Listen, that grazing table.
- 29:21SPEAKER_06: Grazing table was well.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: The grazing table was, and normally if I go somewhere, I don't like to go get seconds because I don't want to, I don't want to look greedy.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: I went back for seconds.
- 29:32SPEAKER_06: You went back for seconds.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: I went back for seconds.
- 29:34SPEAKER_06: We're back for seconds.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: The grazing table was beautiful.
- 29:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, people at home with carryouts, yeah.
- 29:38SPEAKER_06: Did they really?
- 29:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we even had some carryouts for you.
- 29:41SPEAKER_06: Okay, because yeah, yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_06: Kiana, Kiana's her, her grazing tables, her setup is, yeah.
- 29:47SPEAKER_06: And so, you know, with me, she just, you know, started her, you know, little doing a little business.
- 29:52SPEAKER_06: And we want people to be able to have an experience.
- 29:54SPEAKER_06: Because when you go to an event and you like, okay, you can be like, I wouldn't do it.
- 30:00SPEAKER_06: I need to do this.
- 30:01SPEAKER_06: So you want you want it to be what you know, what you expect.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was worth it.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: It was worth the money.
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: It was worth the money, it was worth the money.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: Two things you said, because we talk a lot about creatives and their mental health here.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: You know, asking for help.
- 30:16SPEAKER_04: Asking for help.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: You have no problem asking for help, and a lot of us have a hard time asking for help.
- 30:22SPEAKER_06: Well, I do have a hard time asking for help, but not in work-wise.
- 30:26SPEAKER_06: But not so, but it takes me a minute to get there.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 30:31SPEAKER_06: All right, it takes me a minute to get there, and then I I have to talk to myself um and say, okay, all right, you you can't do this by yourself.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:42SPEAKER_06: All right, so you're gonna ask for help or you're not gonna ask for help.
- 30:44SPEAKER_06: Because if you don't ask for help, it's not gonna go well and you're gonna look bad.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Yes, and you're gonna mess stuff up.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:51SPEAKER_06: So that's the whole conversation with myself.
- 30:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 30:53SPEAKER_06: So I I struggle with it.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Um, but you know Are you getting better with it?
- 31:00SPEAKER_06: I'm getting, yeah, I'm a lot better with it.
- 31:03SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 31:03SPEAKER_06: I'm a lot better with it.
- 31:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 31:05SPEAKER_06: I I asked for help or I asked for advice, but I still be trying to do it.
- 31:10SPEAKER_06: And they be like, well, you know, this person does that, so I can I can figure it out.
- 31:13SPEAKER_06: But it doesn't work out that way.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: I wonder why it's hard for us to ask for help.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Have have anybody discussed that?
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: Like any of the mental health people, like, why is it so hard?
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: I think it's because of the simple fact of somebody might not see the vision.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: And some people what do what I like to call throw-ups.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: So in the midst of something going wrong or going left, it's like after all I've done for you, so that can stem from you know, the whole mental health thing of like childhood trauma, you know.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's true.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: Um just having that space and having people around you that are always wanting other people to know I helped, I did, I did.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: And it's like, thank you, but this is not about you to an extent.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: It's not even about me, it's about the people that are gonna be here and showing up and the experience that we're trying to give them compared to oh, it's me, it's me, it's me.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: You know, so we tend not to ask for help because sometimes when you ask people for help, they want to do more than help to where they sabotage it unintentionally.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: If that makes sense.
- 32:31SPEAKER_06: I think one yeah, one thing for me about asking people is is maybe disappointment.
- 32:36SPEAKER_06: Oh, you know, I don't I don't, you know, if you ask them to do something and then they don't do it, or they don't.
- 32:44SPEAKER_06: Well, that's two things.
- 32:45SPEAKER_06: So if they don't do it, then you're like, okay, I should never just even ask them for help.
- 32:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, or if they do it, you know, they done exactly right the way I wanted that.
- 32:54SPEAKER_03: Right, right, right.
- 32:55SPEAKER_06: But they did it, so I can't be mad they did the best they could.
- 32:58SPEAKER_06: That's right.
- 32:59SPEAKER_06: But then for me, I just I just do it myself.
- 33:01SPEAKER_06: And then I also don't want to be in the fact where I got to owe you too.
- 33:05SPEAKER_02: But I think that's asking the right people too.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, so you gotta learn, you gotta know your people.
- 33:10SPEAKER_06: So that's that's what my struggle is that's why you got to ask the right people.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think if you ask the right people, they don't because people can ask me to do things, not to bring it back on me, but I'm not gonna do it.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: And I know I have a group of people I can ask.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: And they're like, oh yeah, I got you know what I'm saying?
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: I think my problem comes from this somewhere like somewhere in life.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: I thought I had to wear the cape.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: It happens all and like carry it all, and like it's almost wrong to ask for help, yeah, you know, but I'm relearning and I'm trying to do better.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: So yeah, we'll keep it.
- 33:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we're always relearning, right?
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 33:46SPEAKER_06: So asking it, yeah, asking can be hard, but yeah, keep keep blooming, keep blooming, keep blooming, keep blooming, keep blooming, keep blooming.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: And the second thing we talk about a lot with the mental health was like community.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: So you are surrounded by community because we can't life by ourselves.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: We can't like by ourselves, we cannot life by ourselves, it's yeah, it's it's impossible, exactly, and it's not a good life by yourself, so you know, so and I'm gonna back up again.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I know I could be all over the place sometimes, sorry, but um it kind of seems like you're you got your business kind of out after COVID, yes, yeah, yeah.
- 34:25SPEAKER_04: It was after COVID.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: When you said that earlier, I was like, it's amazing how many businesses came from COVID.
- 34:31SPEAKER_06: Yes, yes, yes.
- 34:33SPEAKER_06: So, you know, we everybody, you know, talk about COVID and how um horrifying COVID was.
- 34:39SPEAKER_06: And it was, but there were also, you know, good things that happened during COVID.
- 34:45SPEAKER_06: A lot of people um that were displaced, that were homeless, um, were able to be housed.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:52SPEAKER_06: Um, that's one thing I will always, always be proud of.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: I didn't realize that.
- 34:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yes.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: So they made it was more funding for them to have COVID.
- 35:03SPEAKER_06: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_06: Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 35:07SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 35:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the the the windows of heaven were open and the sky was falling, and yeah.
- 35:13SPEAKER_06: So funding came from every, you know, just everywhere.
- 35:17SPEAKER_06: And everybody wanted to do pots and it pots of money here, pots of money there, and a lot of the restrictions that um were in place, red tape for doing this and doing that, were were just gone.
- 35:30SPEAKER_06: Okay, it was just gone.
- 35:32SPEAKER_06: And it was just, you know, it was it was almost like a time for just a blank check, you know, and there were, you know, many people, landlords that were in the city that wanted to help and you know had properties, and so um, it was a good time for for people and not just families, um, individuals too.
- 35:54SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 35:55SPEAKER_06: You know, individuals um who were always struggling with housing, who were just needed, you know, um security deposit and you know, rent for four or five months to get over a hump.
- 36:08SPEAKER_06: And so um, so it was there.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:11SPEAKER_06: It was there.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 36:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: And then the business came out of COVID.
- 36:14SPEAKER_06: And then the business came out, business came out of COVID.
- 36:17SPEAKER_06: And um, you know, it was, yeah.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: COVID was very scary, very, very scary, but there was a lot of pluses, like you said.
- 36:29SPEAKER_02: Like people got to do their passions, they got to learn their passions, and I watched families walk and have time for one another.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: Every afternoon I would sit on my porch and just see different people walking and laughing.
- 36:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, they were home, they were home, you got nothing else to do.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so it's like you know, they really got to breathe.
- 36:47SPEAKER_06: You got to breathe.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: In a sense, it was it's crazy that it was scary, but beautiful things came from that as well.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: And a lot of I've seen a lot of people have business, they now have businesses because of COVID.
- 36:59SPEAKER_06: Because of COVID, yeah, yeah.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: So that's really good.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: So, what's your favorite part of running your business?
- 37:06SPEAKER_06: Uh my favorite part of running my business is getting flowers, you know, bringing flowers to somebody, especially people people that I know, you know.
- 37:17SPEAKER_06: Um, that's the favorite part.
- 37:20SPEAKER_06: And uh another really thing is when um a man comes into the shop and or calls and he wants flowers for, you know, his wife or girlfriend or whomever.
- 37:34SPEAKER_06: And my first question to them sometimes is, well, what's her favorite color?
- 37:39SPEAKER_06: And they don't know sometimes.
- 37:42SPEAKER_06: Or I say, What's her favorite flower?
- 37:44SPEAKER_06: And they be like, I don't know.
- 37:46SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, okay, we got you know a couple of days before flower.
- 37:49SPEAKER_06: I need you to find out.
- 37:50SPEAKER_06: And they be so excited to like find that out.
- 37:57SPEAKER_06: So then they're like, Well, I'm gonna find out.
- 37:58SPEAKER_06: So I don't know, you need to figure out.
- 38:00SPEAKER_06: So what it does, so this has happened maybe about three or four times.
- 38:03SPEAKER_06: Um, they've come back and said, Hey, you don't know what that did.
- 38:07SPEAKER_06: Um, it created, it helped me create conversation because I had to make up something to try to figure out exactly.
- 38:12SPEAKER_06: And I thought I knew her favorite color, but I really didn't.
- 38:16SPEAKER_06: And then I found out she has two or three different kinds of, you know, her favorite color in flowers might be purple, but her favorite other color is pink.
- 38:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, but she liked purple flowers.
- 38:26SPEAKER_06: So I always thought it was pink, but she liked purple flowers.
- 38:28SPEAKER_06: And, you know, and her favorite, her favorite flower is, you know, the Stargazer Lily, or you know, her favorite flower is the hanging amarithus, you know, or something called, you know, it was called a free spirit rose, you know.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:41SPEAKER_06: So I'll you do know what that is.
- 38:43SPEAKER_06: I was like, yeah, you know it is.
- 38:44SPEAKER_06: So those, so doing that, that's my favorite thing, is doing that, seeing the expressions on somebody's face when I deliver flowers to their door, they weren't expecting.
- 38:55SPEAKER_06: Um that that's probably most, yeah.
- 38:59SPEAKER_06: And and then when I, you know, have an event or do something and I've you know stressed out about it, and then when it happens, it's over with, you know, I kind of was like, yeah.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I did that.
- 39:13SPEAKER_06: I did that.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I did that.
- 39:16SPEAKER_02: I did, I did that.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I did that.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: So you're a therapist in a sense.
- 39:20SPEAKER_06: Have you thought about that?
- 39:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yes, oh yeah, I thought about it.
- 39:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, flowers are therapy.
- 39:25SPEAKER_06: It starts my therapy in creating it, you know, in creating that's my therapy.
- 39:29SPEAKER_06: Like I said, I just yeah, I can zone out and I can, yeah.
- 39:32SPEAKER_06: So I know when I'm done, like, oh, this is gorgeous, it's beautiful.
- 39:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:38SPEAKER_06: So if you if you don't like it, that's you just you just but it shows if you don't like it.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: Like you can see people that do things and they don't like it, it's a difference.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's it's even different how it's received though.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Because if it's not made with love, it's not even received with it.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that is true.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: So you never have mental blocks, like creative blocks?
- 39:56SPEAKER_06: Um I do, but they don't last long because you know, I'm I'm a believer.
- 40:04SPEAKER_06: I believe, I'm a I'm definitely a believer.
- 40:07SPEAKER_06: And so, you know, sometimes I forget to pray and ask God.
- 40:13SPEAKER_06: So I do have a block, create a block.
- 40:16SPEAKER_06: And then I'll be like, okay, God, like, okay, I need I need this to happen.
- 40:21SPEAKER_06: I need, I need you to help me figure this out.
- 40:24SPEAKER_06: And then that's the wrong thing.
- 40:25SPEAKER_06: I say, I need you to help me figure it out.
- 40:27SPEAKER_06: And I'll be like, okay, no, okay, Holy Spirit, I need you to activate here.
- 40:30SPEAKER_06: I need you to figure this out.
- 40:32SPEAKER_06: Let me know.
- 40:34SPEAKER_06: Okay, you know how much time we got.
- 40:36SPEAKER_06: So figure it out.
- 40:37SPEAKER_06: And then as you know, you know, as preacher, Pastor Sharp, you say, it always works out.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: It always works out.
- 40:45SPEAKER_06: It always works, you know, and I try not to make that a cliche, but it always works out.
- 40:50SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 40:51SPEAKER_02: It's true, it's true.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: You know, it's true, it's true.
- 40:53SPEAKER_06: So, so yeah, yeah.
- 40:54SPEAKER_06: Um, so I have that block, you know, I be praying and I be praying, and then when it works out, still my gosh.
- 41:03SPEAKER_06: I be, whoo, I be running.
- 41:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I be jumping, and like, oh yeah, it did.
- 41:11SPEAKER_06: It did.
- 41:12SPEAKER_06: Now that the Lord be like, why are you down?
- 41:14SPEAKER_06: Really?
- 41:15SPEAKER_06: Is that how you go?
- 41:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: I think it's our human nature sometimes.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: And we get so busy sometimes and you forget.
- 41:22SPEAKER_02: Because sometimes I forget to pray and I forget to talk to them, and I forget to ask.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: And those days I was like, you know what?
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: And I stop and do it, and my day is better, my answers are clearer, you know.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, I think it's human nature.
- 41:36SPEAKER_06: It's human nature.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: We know better, but sometimes we get caught up.
- 41:39SPEAKER_06: You get caught up.
- 41:41SPEAKER_06: I think sometimes we get caught up.
- 41:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's so like like for my mother, so the the floral shop is named uh Carrie's, Carrie's Florida's and my is named after my mother.
- 41:51SPEAKER_06: Um, she's 88, be 89 in December.
- 41:54SPEAKER_06: And so as I was talking about her, so now even before I even had the actual brick and mortar place, even before then, in her mind and to her friends in Greenville and her community, I had a shop.
- 42:09SPEAKER_06: That's a bad one.
- 42:10SPEAKER_06: I had I had a shop.
- 42:12SPEAKER_06: So if I if I carried flowers home to her, she'd be like, Yeah, Julian brought me these flowers.
- 42:17SPEAKER_06: You know, he got them a store.
- 42:18SPEAKER_06: He got them a store.
- 42:19SPEAKER_06: I was like, Mom, I don't have well before, you know, as the built out was going to my mom, I had a shop.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: She saw it.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: She saw it before you did it.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: She saw before I did.
- 42:29SPEAKER_02: I said, Yeah, everything you did.
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: You know, and so you know, one of the friends will say, you know, well, where is it?
- 42:33SPEAKER_06: Where's he not going?
- 42:35SPEAKER_06: It's somewhere in Charlotte, because you know, your mom, my mom always covers me.
- 42:39SPEAKER_06: You know, she when I'm doing wrong, when I'm wrong, yeah, you're not gonna know I'm wrong.
- 42:45SPEAKER_06: You're not gonna know it.
- 42:47SPEAKER_06: But she she gets you behind closed doors.
- 42:49SPEAKER_06: That's a mother's love.
- 42:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:50SPEAKER_06: That's a mother's love.
- 42:51SPEAKER_06: But out in front, you know, well, what did you do?
- 42:54SPEAKER_06: What did you do to make him act like that?
- 42:56SPEAKER_06: What did you do like that?
- 42:57SPEAKER_06: And I know I be wrong.
- 42:58SPEAKER_06: I know I was wrong.
- 42:59SPEAKER_06: But in her eyes, you know, I always uh I had the shop before it was before it was there.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:05SPEAKER_06: And so for her to tell a story now, you know, I mean, it's it's it's massive.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: She saw, and that was one of those times that God was talking.
- 43:14SPEAKER_06: That was God was talking.
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: You heard it, but you didn't hear it until you have Carrie's florals now.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: You're like, oh yeah, she she spoke this in my life.
- 43:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:23SPEAKER_06: She spoke this in my life.
- 43:24SPEAKER_06: She did.
- 43:24SPEAKER_02: So you always knew the name, you was gonna name it after your mom.
- 43:26SPEAKER_06: I know I was named after my mom.
- 43:28SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Do you grow flowers?
- 43:33SPEAKER_06: I do, I do, yes, yes.
- 43:35SPEAKER_06: I yeah, my yah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:38SPEAKER_06: So you know, zinnias right now are are like throughout the summer, all the way into the fall now.
- 43:44SPEAKER_06: So my have a whole butterfly garden now.
- 43:47SPEAKER_06: It is yeah, it's so fun.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to get into it.
- 43:52SPEAKER_06: It's just gosh, yeah.
- 43:54SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm trying to do it.
- 43:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, because my for my next chapter when I retire, I want to uh flower.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: A flower farm.
- 44:01SPEAKER_06: Flower farm.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what I've been claiming.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: Because I was a beekeeper.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: So I want so I want to do flowers and I'm going to have my bees there.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: And it's just like, yeah.
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: And I'm thinking of ways like, can I have therapy in the garden?
- 44:13SPEAKER_02: I have all these ideals.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: So I'm trying to learn how to grow my flowers now.
- 44:19SPEAKER_06: Bees are my bees are my thing.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: Harry.
- 44:23SPEAKER_06: Bees are my thing.
- 44:24SPEAKER_06: My dormant.
- 44:25SPEAKER_06: Oh Lord Jesus.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: We got another connection.
- 44:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, my pillows on the front porch are bees.
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: So do you leave the water out for the bees and the about the big?
- 44:36SPEAKER_06: Yes, yes, yeah.
- 44:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:38SPEAKER_06: Bees is my yeah.
- 44:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: I did it for two years.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: I broke my foot last year.
- 44:43SPEAKER_02: So I lost that hive.
- 44:45SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: So again, when I retire, because with the photography and the beekeeper, they're both expensive.
- 44:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I want to get back into it.
- 44:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah, right now in the store, there's a whole tablescape of bee stuff.
- 44:56SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 44:57SPEAKER_06: I'm coming to see.
- 44:58SPEAKER_06: We got the bee place.
- 44:59SPEAKER_06: I got some bee tiles.
- 45:00SPEAKER_06: I got it's a whole combination of bee.
- 45:02SPEAKER_06: Then we have another merchant that's in, because it's a multi-merchant market in Southern Line.
- 45:06SPEAKER_06: And her place is called the Giddy B.
- 45:09SPEAKER_06: And she's a um beekeeper, and she has all these these bee pollen and the honey.
- 45:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:15SPEAKER_06: She've got one of them old-fashioned kind of little smoke things.
- 45:19SPEAKER_06: Smoker, yeah.
- 45:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:20SPEAKER_06: And so we got a whole tablescape of bees.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: You need bees, too.
- 45:23SPEAKER_06: You need bees.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: But you need bees in your yard.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: In your yard.
- 45:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:27SPEAKER_06: So I got bees.
- 45:28SPEAKER_06: I got we got them bees, but right now's the butterflies.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because you got the guard.
- 45:33SPEAKER_06: Got the guard.
- 45:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, Harry.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna need your help.
- 45:37SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 45:38SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna need your help.
- 45:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's like been my dream for the last few years.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: There was a lady that was on social media.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen her in a while.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: That's I got the idea from her because she has the farm.
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: And I was like, this is such a cool idea.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: I would love going to work every day.
- 45:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like oh wow, yeah.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: So we and my Simmons talk about the farming now.
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: Everybody wants different things for the farm.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: And I want my bees and I want my flowers.
- 46:01SPEAKER_06: You want bees and flowers.
- 46:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 46:03SPEAKER_06: Somebody else.
- 46:04SPEAKER_06: That is wow.
- 46:06SPEAKER_06: Wow.
- 46:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 46:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 46:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 46:07SPEAKER_06: So yeah.
- 46:07SPEAKER_06: So I will we'll have another conversation.
- 46:09SPEAKER_06: I have some, you know, and just as we're talking to me thinking about people in my life, and um, you know, two of my friends, they have a um hair care product line called Rucker Roots.
- 46:20SPEAKER_06: And so they are now um developing land that their father left them to create this farm.
- 46:27SPEAKER_06: And so they've been talking about the flower farm and growing their own vegetables.
- 46:32SPEAKER_06: And so recently we had a uh a luncheon out in the out in the whole uh the day has like 55 acres.
- 46:39SPEAKER_06: And so we were out um yeah, on October the 1st creating um this whole South Carolina Black Farmers um luncheon that we had out there on the farm.
- 46:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 46:51SPEAKER_06: And just talking about uh how they planned to to do all that.
- 46:55SPEAKER_06: They now have like gardens and I didn't know they grew pumpkins, and they had pumpkins out there.
- 47:01SPEAKER_06: It was amazing.
- 47:02SPEAKER_06: They had these muscadine grapes, and this from their from their dad from years.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: We are getting back to ourselves.
- 47:09SPEAKER_06: Getting back to ourselves.
- 47:10SPEAKER_02: We are getting back to ourselves, yeah.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: And I yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_02: They'll find I'm not gonna get into it, but yeah, we're gonna make our way.
- 47:18SPEAKER_02: We're gonna make our way, we're gonna make our way always.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: So I do have another question.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: What's your favorite flower?
- 47:25SPEAKER_06: Depends on which day of the week we're talking about, right?
- 47:28SPEAKER_06: You know, it depends on what our season is.
- 47:30SPEAKER_06: So hanging amorethus is my favorite.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: Okay, you know, is that the one that looks like the grapes?
- 47:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, okay, yeah.
- 47:38SPEAKER_06: So it comes in, it's the one that's in the green, the one's in red, but the green is is my favorite.
- 47:43SPEAKER_06: It's just very dramatic.
- 47:45SPEAKER_06: It's just when people see it, they're like, what is that?
- 47:48SPEAKER_06: And you can create so much with it.
- 47:50SPEAKER_06: So that that is probably one of my favorites, right?
- 47:53SPEAKER_06: Right there.
- 47:54SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 47:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: And if you had to describe yourself as a flower, which flower would it be?
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: Oh, that sounds like it's a deep one right there.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's he had to sit up on that one.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: That just came to me too.
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: I didn't have that one written down.
- 48:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you should roll.
- 48:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:13SPEAKER_06: That was probably one of the questions you should have.
- 48:15SPEAKER_06: Whoa.
- 48:17SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 48:20SPEAKER_06: You have to ask somebody out.
- 48:22SPEAKER_06: Most people sound mean.
- 48:24SPEAKER_02: Harry, really?
- 48:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 48:25SPEAKER_06: So that's probably not a mean flower.
- 48:27SPEAKER_02: That's not a no, I don't think there's no mean flower.
- 48:29SPEAKER_06: There's no mean flower.
- 48:31SPEAKER_06: All flowers are beautiful.
- 48:32SPEAKER_02: Yes, they are.
- 48:33SPEAKER_06: You know.
- 48:34SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 48:35SPEAKER_06: I don't know now.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: Would it be a rose because it has thorns?
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: No.
- 48:40SPEAKER_06: I don't think it'll be a rose for that thorn.
- 48:43SPEAKER_06: So I don't know.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 48:45SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: You're gonna think about that.
- 48:48SPEAKER_02: Well later, you're gonna tell me what it is off camera.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it sounds like he just updated the website.
- 48:53SPEAKER_04: That's it.
- 48:54SPEAKER_04: That's it.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: That's it.
- 48:55SPEAKER_02: What did you say, Tay?
- 48:57SPEAKER_00: I said it sounds like you're about to go update the website.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: You're gonna have to think about that.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: I can just put this out there.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: Let him know.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: Let me go ahead and put this out here on social media or something real quick.
- 49:08SPEAKER_06: I gotta do some more research on some flowers.
- 49:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: You know your flowers.
- 49:12SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:13SPEAKER_06: I don't know now.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 49:15SPEAKER_02: I'll I'ma let you know.
- 49:16SPEAKER_06: I ain't gatekeeping either.
- 49:17SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: I know you're not because Harry does not gatekeep.
- 49:22SPEAKER_06: I do not know.
- 49:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely not.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: So, Tay, do you have a question?
- 49:27SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 49:29SPEAKER_00: Um, no.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: Did you ask the third question?
- 49:33SPEAKER_00: You haven't asked the third question yet.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: No, right now, I don't have any questions.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: I'm just taking it all in.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: Like y'all are throwing out all these flower names, and I'm like, Rose, stick a barbush.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: I don't know, you know.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: No, sir.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: See, that's why I'm like, I'm I I gotta start this conversation.
- 49:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know another one.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: That's not your expertise.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: No, uh you want to talk about cameras and film.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, I I got you.
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: I can jump in there, but right now I'm just watching double dutch take place.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know where to jump in at.
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: You learned some things today.
- 49:59SPEAKER_02: I'm learning.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm learning.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love that.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: All these technical words for these flowers, you know.
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Right now, I don't have anything yet, but give me a minute.
- 50:09SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 50:11SPEAKER_02: So I do want to go back to your event that I was talking about earlier because you were gonna have another one in February.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: So I want everybody to buy tickets for us.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: So yeah, you want to sell it to the people.
- 50:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so as just as we were talking, um probably, yeah, February is to do, because you know, everybody does flowers for Valentine's.
- 50:35SPEAKER_06: Um, and I try to be very creative uh beyond just the the red roses.
- 50:43SPEAKER_06: And so I'm gonna do um a good, you know, couples, we'll do couples, and we're gonna do singles.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 50:51SPEAKER_06: Of uh flower making, creating some uh beautiful arrangement that you know, if if you don't have the significant other spouse, whatever, then you're gonna create something just for yourself.
- 51:02SPEAKER_06: You're gonna date your own self.
- 51:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know that's right.
- 51:04SPEAKER_06: And then it just might be another single personnel that you might end up meeting.
- 51:08SPEAKER_06: And y'all have made little flowers together.
- 51:10SPEAKER_06: Now we, you know, and then Harry's gonna do the micro wheel.
- 51:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, yeah.
- 51:14SPEAKER_06: That's called we're blooming and bonding.
- 51:17SPEAKER_06: We're blooming and bonding.
- 51:18SPEAKER_06: You know, on the spirit kind of thing.
- 51:20SPEAKER_06: So yeah, yeah, just be being open to it.
- 51:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's a like I said, it was a it's a really great experience.
- 51:26SPEAKER_02: It's very it's very intentional.
- 51:28SPEAKER_02: That's very, very much intentional.
- 51:30SPEAKER_02: Very intentional.
- 51:30SPEAKER_02: You're gonna eat well, you're gonna drink well, yeah, you're gonna meet nice people, and it's yeah, you're gonna have to watch, you're gonna watch, have to watch the website, Instagram.
- 51:40SPEAKER_02: I know that was one thing you were working on, right?
- 51:42SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 51:43SPEAKER_02: You've been doing better.
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: I've been doing better.
- 51:45SPEAKER_02: Look, because I be on social media too much, so but you're doing better.
- 51:49SPEAKER_06: That's work, that's work.
- 51:50SPEAKER_06: Yes, I'm doing better.
- 51:51SPEAKER_06: It is a lot better.
- 51:52SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 51:52SPEAKER_02: Listen, it's a lot of work, it's a lot of work, especially when you don't really like it to do it.
- 51:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, yeah.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: That's me trying to get there too.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: So I get I understand.
- 52:02SPEAKER_06: So I so just when y'all see my Instagram and my Facebook and my sometime TikTok is authentic.
- 52:11SPEAKER_06: I'll on top of all of them edits.
- 52:14SPEAKER_06: You know, I I got I got my my good friend, you know, if I'm gonna call you.
- 52:19SPEAKER_06: She has seen me.
- 52:22SPEAKER_06: You need to factor, you know, you got I don't have time for all that.
- 52:26SPEAKER_06: You understand.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: Listen, and see, I'm in a rush all the time, so I never realize that something was uncut, misspelled, or anything.
- 52:33SPEAKER_02: Because I'm like, oh, the flowers.
- 52:35SPEAKER_02: I see the flowers.
- 52:36SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 52:36SPEAKER_04: I want you to see the flowers.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: And listen, and you can see the flowers.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: You can see the flowers.
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: He is a genius.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: Hey, I want you to see all the flowers.
- 52:44SPEAKER_06: I just want you to see the flowers.
- 52:45SPEAKER_06: I want you to see the flowers and when you know whether it order flowers, whether come pick up flowers, whether flowers.
- 52:50SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 52:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, just look at the flowers.
- 52:51SPEAKER_06: You gotta read all that.
- 52:53SPEAKER_00: Uh I got a question.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: Um, because I don't think I heard you say it.
- 52:56SPEAKER_00: Is there a date set for February yet?
- 52:59SPEAKER_00: There's not a date set as of today.
- 53:03SPEAKER_06: At the time of recording.
- 53:05SPEAKER_06: At the time of recording.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: The answer is no.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: But it's February.
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: However, yeah, it's gonna be in February as we're in February.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: And like I said, the very first one sold out, so don't miss this one.
- 53:17SPEAKER_06: But the first one sold out.
- 53:20SPEAKER_06: The second one sold out.
- 53:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the second one.
- 53:21SPEAKER_02: See, I wasn't necessarily, but I'm gonna show up at that third one if Tay don't have me working.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: So yes.
- 53:27SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna sell this one out as well.
- 53:30SPEAKER_02: But it's a good one.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: Sound like you're trying to put me to work.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:36unknown: No.
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: We're gonna see what happens.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: We just bring Tay.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: Tay just come off.
- 53:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, take it off.
- 53:39SPEAKER_06: Come on, come off.
- 53:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah, here come on.
- 53:40SPEAKER_06: You gotta let everybody forget.
- 53:42SPEAKER_02: Come on, get you some raising Tay, but you know you always hungry.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: Don't do me like that.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: Everybody on the podcast knows this.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: Everybody knows you're hungry.
- 53:51SPEAKER_00: Not you be hungry though.
- 53:53SPEAKER_02: When I was talking about my aunt seal earlier, she grew these.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: She had the blue ones.
- 53:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, the hydrangea.
- 53:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yes, yeah.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: And that's the one you been out.
- 54:01SPEAKER_02: And she had a bunch of.
- 54:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: And so anytime I see a hydranger, I always think about my aunt seal.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: I do my aunt seal.
- 54:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:10SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna get my yard together.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: We're gonna keep, I'm gonna keep talking to myself and praying because I've tried a few years and it's just yeah.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: But I'm gonna try.
- 54:19SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna try.
- 54:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, but I'm gonna try.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: I'm so honored that you sat down and talked to me.
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: Oh, please.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: Thank you for talking about it.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: Talk to us and shared your creativity path.
- 54:29SPEAKER_02: Did I say that right?
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: Is that right?
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: Creativity path.
- 54:32SPEAKER_02: Creative path.
- 54:33SPEAKER_00: That sounds good to me.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: Creative journey.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: Is that what you mean?
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: Creative journey.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that sounds good too.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: We could use that as well.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: So since this we're here, um, two things really.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: One, let the people know where they can find you on uh social media, uh, how to get in contact with you or the shop, and then we'll ask the next question after that.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 54:57SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 54:58SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 54:58SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 54:59SPEAKER_06: So you can find me on um, of course, on social media.
- 55:03SPEAKER_06: IGN Facebook is Carrie Floral Designs.
- 55:06SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 55:06SPEAKER_06: And the same as the website, Carrieflorals Designs.com.
- 55:10SPEAKER_06: Um, my studio is located um inside of Southern Line, which is at Carolina Place Small, 11033 Carolina Place Parkway.
- 55:19SPEAKER_06: It's the black and gold building.
- 55:22SPEAKER_06: Um, it's a multi-merchant marketplace.
- 55:24SPEAKER_06: Uh, there are over a hundred some different small businesses that are into this incubator, and we are continuously growing.
- 55:32SPEAKER_06: It's everything from home decor, clothing.
- 55:35SPEAKER_06: Then there's another component every first weekend of the month.
- 55:38SPEAKER_06: There's an antique estate vintage and collectible thing called Metroliner that is held every first part of the month.
- 55:45SPEAKER_02: Didn't know that.
- 55:46SPEAKER_02: On the weekend or doing the weekend?
- 55:48SPEAKER_06: On the weekend, like Friday, every first, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, full weekend of the month.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: And does the shop have a um phone?
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, yes.
- 55:55SPEAKER_06: Is it best to call you there?
- 55:56SPEAKER_06: What's the phone number?
- 55:57SPEAKER_06: It's 980-500-9919.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: You you chose that phone number.
- 56:03SPEAKER_06: 9919.
- 56:04SPEAKER_06: I know you chose it.
- 56:04SPEAKER_06: 900 9919.
- 56:06SPEAKER_02: You can remember that one.
- 56:08SPEAKER_06: Uh-huh.
- 56:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 56:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: So the next question is um, what seed would you plant for the next creative or uh driving it home to the next person that's thinking about becoming a florist?
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: Becoming a florist.
- 56:26SPEAKER_06: Oh so um as we we we cut we threw out the word a couple of times about um gatekeeping.
- 56:34SPEAKER_06: Um and uh it's uh definitely a sore spot for me.
- 56:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, yeah um because grow going into this business, you know, um, you know, you came, threw it out there.
- 56:46SPEAKER_06: Um it was a new territory for both of us and for myself.
- 56:50SPEAKER_06: So while she was busy building something here, I had to figure out how to build this business.
- 56:56SPEAKER_06: And so there were people who were in business and they were, we weren't in the same kind of business.
- 57:03SPEAKER_06: They weren't floors, but they didn't, you know, they you asked them, well, how do you do this or how do you do that?
- 57:09SPEAKER_06: And what and they was like, well, you know, um for me, it was this.
- 57:14SPEAKER_06: So I don't know how it works for you.
- 57:16SPEAKER_06: I was like, well, how did you, you know, did you fund in?
- 57:19SPEAKER_06: Did you self-fund, or did you with your business license, you know, things that you you just didn't know.
- 57:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 57:28SPEAKER_06: That you know, you you got your business license, or you know, if you register with Secretary of State, you got to renew that every year, you know.
- 57:36SPEAKER_06: And they'll be like, Well, you got to do this, or you you didn't do this?
- 57:39SPEAKER_06: Well, no.
- 57:40SPEAKER_06: So it was a lot of gatekeeping.
- 57:42SPEAKER_06: And then, you know, you wanna you call them up, and then you set up a meet with coffee or something like that, and either they didn't text you back, didn't call you, or they canceled right at the last minute.
- 57:52SPEAKER_06: And then you set up for the next one, and then it's like, ah, well, you know, I I'm busy with this working, you know, or call.
- 57:58SPEAKER_06: So it was a I felt a lot of gatekeeping.
- 58:01SPEAKER_06: And so, like I said, it's a sore spot for me, and I knew that was something I was never gonna do.
- 58:07SPEAKER_06: Um, whether we, whether it's uh they're going into the floral business or any kind of retail.
- 58:11SPEAKER_06: Because now let me just say, I don't, I sell more than just flowers.
- 58:14SPEAKER_06: I have like a um, I sell a line called Archipelago, um, Velusa candle, and um another line uh called um Antisa Fermisa.
- 58:25SPEAKER_06: So they're high end and then there's a mid-level, and then there's uh a lower end of lotions and candles, ascents and things that I sell, all national brands.
- 58:35SPEAKER_06: Um, but I never want to gatekeep and not share with somebody who's trying to want to start a business, like I said, with any kind of retail florist or whatever.
- 58:46SPEAKER_06: Um and I I look at, you know, I look at their social media and I look at some of the things they're doing and how they're growing and how they're actually um maybe in certain groups or in certain circles.
- 59:03SPEAKER_06: And so, you know, I I said, well, hey, how did you get how did you get in there?
- 59:07SPEAKER_06: We we doing something totally different.
- 59:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:09SPEAKER_06: And I went like, well, how did you get in there?
- 59:11SPEAKER_06: And then they were like, Well, you know, I mean, I don't quite know how.
- 59:16SPEAKER_06: Yes, you do.
- 59:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:18SPEAKER_06: Like, you know how you got that contract.
- 59:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 59:21SPEAKER_00: So you telling me you don't know how you made 100k in in two weeks or over this month.
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: It just happened, huh?
- 59:26SPEAKER_00: It just happened.
- 59:27SPEAKER_06: You know, okay.
- 59:28SPEAKER_06: You know, what did you do for to make them call you to ask you to do that?
- 59:32SPEAKER_06: You you you got to know, you know.
- 59:35SPEAKER_06: So to answer that question, one thing I would say when somebody's going into the business is you know, get past the gatekeeping.
- 59:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you got to get past it.
- 59:47SPEAKER_06: Um, and that's what I'm working towards now is getting past the gatekeeping.
- 59:52SPEAKER_06: It is a very, very touchy and sore spot for me to have experience that with people that um I know or I even or somebody that knew them, you know, I got to.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_06: You know, I knew directly or somebody knew.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, and so so yeah.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_02: And I will say, I don't, I said this one off camera then now, where at the event, at your first bloom event, Harry was very intentional with like, hey, yeah, stand up and tell, tell everybody what you do.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_02: Like you caught me off guard.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I do something.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, I'm a photographer now.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I started podcasting a little bit, but you were very intentional with everybody here.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_02: Share what you do that way.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: If we needed to network or anything, yeah, it was that was a great networking.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, you know, I wasn't expecting it at all.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: So I think you block your blessings.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: We do gatekeeping.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_02: You sold at your first event.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_06: Sold out the first event.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: The second event, because you don't gatekeep, yeah, you know, no, nothing can come to good.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_06: The guy who um was was the bartender there.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_06: Um so I have my favorite restaurant that I probably visit by every every other Sunday.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_06: So that's where I met him and another young lady there.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_06: And so both of them became my bartenders, and they didn't actually really just do work outside, but I was like, hey, I'm having an event, you know, and it was like, okay, yeah, we'll do it.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_06: But it opened up doors for them as well.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, it opened up doors for the person who did the backdrop.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_06: And so I I definitely want to be intentional, intentional about helping other people and answering my phone, answering their email, answering their text, answering their DM and say this is what happened for me.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, um, or if I know somebody, and so I definitely want to always be a connector.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_02: You know, I kind of got chills from that.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: I just I do I love that because everybody's not a good person.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_02: You know, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: So, like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_02: So I'm glad that you are a good person, that you are willing to share, not gatekeeping all those things.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: So, Harry, this is the space where we open the floor for you to ask us a question, make a statement, give a comment.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_00: Um, whatever thy heart desires.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: So you have any questions for us, you know, fire away.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_06: So Tay, this is your passion.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, and my mic is turning off.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_03: I knew he was gonna say this.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_06: This is this is your passion, right?
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yes, yes.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_06: So in it, so I would I would like to hear your challenge.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_06: Your your you, you know, not not your your yeah, just give me a challenge.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_06: What has been one of your challenges?
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_06: Never won't say the biggest challenge, but what has been has been your challenge in in trying in creating the space and doing this?
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_06: As far as the podcast.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_06: Yes, the podcast, and yeah.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_06: Because you don't do just the podcast, right?
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do a whole lot more.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's a videographer, yeah.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, photographer, videographer, video editor, oh yeah, um, audio engineer, uh, social media strategist, okay, vlogger, um, yeah.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: And I know I'm missing some stuff.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_03: Gamer.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_00: Say what now?
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_00: Gamer.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: Gamer, yep.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: My gaming channel.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: Um, I do a lot.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: I got a motorcycle channel too.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, really?
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, I really do do a lot.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: So what's the challenge?
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: What's the challenge?
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_00: So when it comes to the podcast, the biggest challenge is to get guests.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_00: You know, we again, I tell people we have not missed a single week.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_00: Even when I'm like, I have nobody for next week, you know, somebody pops up and says, hey, I'm interested, and you know, we sit down with them.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_00: But getting people to actually want to be here um is not the challenge, but people actually responding and showing up.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: Um I can't tell you how many times I've had someone cancel or just straight up forgot that they even scheduled to be here.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: Um, and I tell people that a lot of times when y'all see me and Shamar, me, Shamar, and Dina on camera, yeah, nine times out of ten, we're there because the guest isn't.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_00: You know, that's no shade to anybody or you know, uh blindly pointing fingers, but it's just I'm giving you a creative space.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: Dina is giving you a creative space.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_00: Shamar is giving you a creative space to come and talk about you, promote your business, promote what you do and how you help the community in every way, shape, or form.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_00: You know, like uh Shaley said, I'm giving a voice to the voiceless.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: I'm offering you a space to come and be you, talk about you.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_00: You know, people are really coming to us and saying, you know, this is really a safe space.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_00: And they will say things on camera that they normally wouldn't even say behind closed doors to people that they actually know.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_00: You know, the challenge is just dealing with getting people here to talk about themselves, which really meant to know.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: If you say, hey, I want to invite you to my show or my event, and all you have to do is talk about you, yeah, what you do, promote yourself, and then I'll send you some social media clips and some pictures if we have someone here that's able to take BTS photos and you know just use them.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: And oh wow, that is like challenge number two.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_00: You know, we're not charging anybody to be here right now.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_00: We're not charging you to get these clips, these social media clips and And these BTS photos, in a sense, we're giving you again a free space to talk about you and market you freely.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: We give you marketing material, and then which leads to number two, you don't use it.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, wow.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: So you think we sit here and talk for an hour, hour and a half.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_00: Um, then I go home, I edit it.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_00: You know, Dino and Shamar, they edit the pictures.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_00: So we're giving you all this stuff for free.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_00: For free.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_00: To talk about you for free.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_00: To put on your social media pages for free.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_00: And you say, Oh, I don't think I can make it.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, something came up.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_00: I know things happen.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_00: But be respectful of people's time too.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: You know, like I know things happen.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_00: People can be late, it happens, you know, but don't do a no-call, no show.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_00: That's the worst.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_00: Because I am a the type of person that's like one and done.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_00: You know, um, if I'm gonna be late, I'm gonna let you know.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_00: You know, if I'm gonna be early, I'm gonna let you know.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_00: Um if I need to reschedule, I'm gonna let you know well in enough time, not after I've already been up here setting up and got everything ready.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_00: I'm expecting you in 45 minutes, you'd be like, hey man, can we reschedule?
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: Because my response is, I'm not gonna say what my response is.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_00: You know, but when it comes to challenges, that those are the main two things.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_00: You know, again, I'm offering you a space to talk about you for free, and I'm giving you free marketing material.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_00: Show up and use it.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_00: All right, yeah, okay.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I got you.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, understood.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_06: So for you, let's go talk back to the the beekeeper.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_06: So, what's what fascinates you about the bees?
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: I met a black beekeeper, a female black.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_02: I met her at Camp North End, like near Christmas a few years ago, and I got real excited about I said, you know, her being a beekeeper.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: She started talking to me.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_02: She's she got her bag and she started putting stuff.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_02: I bought some things where she had extra stuff in the bag, and she said, You you don't know where you're gonna see me again.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_02: And a few months later, she uh offered a class, and I took her class and went from there.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_06: She offered a class in beekeeping.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_02: And beekeeping.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_02: She offered a class.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_02: So y'all actually went out there with the bees.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_02: No, we we didn't get to do that, but she did it online.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_02: But I think there are some other classes that we'll yeah, but um she came with me and set it up, and when I tell you, people were so shocked that I loved it as much as I did.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_02: But you know, in beekeeping, you can lose your bees for whatever reason.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_02: So my dad's nurse now.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_02: I talked, I found out she's a beekeeper.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_02: My dad bought honey, buys honey from her, but we never knew she was a nurse, small world anyway.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_02: But I talked to her sometimes on the phone, and she said, you know, she'd tell me how many hives she loses, but you need to have a few hives.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_02: So when you lose a hive, you still have some.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but when I tell you, I every day I would get home and look up my back, just look out the window at the hive, or just go out there and watch them fly.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_01: Oh you ever got stung once, yeah.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_02: I was so mad because I'm like, I'm your mama.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_02: I'm not your queen, but I am your mama.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_02: I come out here and talk to you because, like, yeah, she really put me into like the spiritual, spiritual side of it.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_02: So I would really go out there and talk to her.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, but I got I had a whole, I didn't have my um suit zipped.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_02: Okay, and I felt something.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh, and I I was more hurting than feelings hurt, their body hurt.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh, how can you sting me?
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_02: But no, a lot of times they're very you can kind of calm them down and things.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I've heard that yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_06: They say you may calm.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's what I've never been to be uh to a hive and seen hive.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_06: Just but they say you can calm the bees.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_02: But so you have a beekeeper there at your you should ask.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I've never seen, yeah.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_02: I'm telling, and it I found out there's a beekeeper down the street from me.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_02: I'm going to talk to him.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_02: And um, yeah, I just wanted to put my suit on and just go back there and stand again.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, yeah, it's just it's a beautiful thing.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_02: You know, super p yeah.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: I just I didn't know I would love it as much.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_02: So I wanted to get back into it, but I gotta wait.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_02: I gotta wait.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_02: I can't do both of them here.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_06: I understand.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_06: I understand.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_02: I keep blooming, maybe I'll be able to bloom, you know.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_02: Amen.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_06: Amen.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_02: But yeah, we really appreciate you being here.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_02: I learned a lot of good things.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_02: Thank you for the flop.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, thank you.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_02: Harry is the mom, so I need you to call because he gave your phone his phone number and all the socials.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_02: So go support, I'ma say a black business.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because it's not a lot of black florists in Charlotte, are there?
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean there are a few, there are a couple, but yeah.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_02: I mean, everybody else is good.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_02: Trader Joe was good because I'm guilty of that, but you know, I'm gonna be intentional, be more intentional, be more intentional.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_02: So I I really hope that you all support Harry at Carrie's florals.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_00: Appreciate it.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_00: Now hold on.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_00: Before we close out, I have to ask this question.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_00: So Creative Roots has become more than just a space for creatives, it's also become a space for relief of mental health.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_00: We've talked to multiple people and conversations are sprouting that their creativity is coming from childhood trauma, adult trauma, you know, things in life.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_00: Um, our creativity sprouts and it's a safe space for a lot of us, you know, and it's rare you hear anybody ask or say anything about, oh, I started doing it for the money, right?
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_00: So knowing that we all go through things as not just as creatives, but as people, for us as creatives, I feel it's a lot worse because we have so many things going through our minds, especially when we run a business with our creativity.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_00: So, my question to you is how's your mental?
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_06: How's my mental?
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_06: Well, it depends on which day of the week you answer.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_06: I don't know if the day or the hour no, that's right.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's been a it's been a rough week.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_06: So my mental um my mental is is is good.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_06: It's it's good though.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_06: Um like I you know, I said I'm I'm definitely a believer in God, and that is all my source, my strength and my power.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_06: And and I I pray and I you know ask God for direction and leading, and I know He He guides and leads me.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_06: And you know, I my my friends, they pick me about my whole, my porch is my is my therapy, and me sit on their porch and uh you know I be could be on my laptop and sitting there, but I can close the laptop and there are two chairs out there.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_06: I'm sitting in one and on the other chair is is Jesus.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_06: And I've be you know, I sit and I said, now look, this now, this is what's going on.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_06: Now you know what's going on.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_06: And uh, so how how this is gonna work out?
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_06: You know, how is this gonna work out?
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and and I'm talking to him, I'm talking to him, just like I'm sitting, like you're sitting in that chair.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_06: And um, yeah, and now somebody, you know, walk up, you know, it's at night when it's dog too, but you know, I got some neighbors that's knowing they they might think I'm crazy, myself he gets ripped and mental if they call mobile crisis, you know.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_06: But I'd have a full-blown conversation with me and Jesus sitting there in that chair.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_06: And I always get up, be like, ooh, okay, but thank you.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_06: And I feel better.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_06: Oh, I do.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_06: I really do.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_06: I feel better.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_06: And I go in the house and go to bed.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_06: But I have a whole, it's a whole conversation.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_06: Um, so yeah, that's why I'm mentally it's Jesus.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm glad you good.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_02: You're good mentally.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_02: I'm glad you know what to do for yourself.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_02: When you need something, you know.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so that's a good thing.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_02: That is a good thing.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_00: Well, it sounds like Dina uh was already trying to wrap this episode up.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_00: So let's continue wrapping it up then.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_02: I didn't know where you were going.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_00: Don't act like that.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: But okay.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_00: It's cool.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_00: So thank y'all for tuning in, Harry.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_00: We appreciate you coming in.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_00: Having this conversation with D Loves Lee.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_01: I need it, DC.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_01: I needed it.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_06: Me too.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_06: This is a good mental therapy.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_06: I needed this.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_06: You know, good mental therapy for me for the end of the before we get to the end of the day.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, okay.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_02: Ending on the high note.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_00: So um, once again, don't forget we are going live December 12th from 2 p.m.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_00: to 5 p.m.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_00: The theme is home for the holidays.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_00: Dress how you want.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_00: Wear your ugly sweater, wear your non-ugly sweater.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but just make sure your clothes.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be cold.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_02: Just come.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_00: At rhyme.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_00: I should be a rapper or something.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_00: That's what I forgot.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_00: I do Christian hip hop.
