• 1:00
  Speaker 2: Is it.
• 1:01
Speaker 1: I don't know, I'm not sure what it is.
• 1:02
Speaker 2: If anybody knows call in Stinky Fe, is it?
• 1:03
Speaker 2: I don't know, I'm not sure what it is.
• 1:04
Speaker 1: It's stinky feet and dead fish.
• 1:05
Speaker 1: No, that's Stinky the Feet.
• 1:07
Speaker 1: Is that what it is, john's sister?
• 1:10
Speaker 1: Okay, welcome to the ankle monitor highway.
• 1:19
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 1:21
Speaker 1: All right, mars, have at it.
• 1:22
Speaker 1: So what we have here, all right Mars have at it.
• 1:29
Speaker 2: So what we have here joining us now is Mr Greg Upchurch with his 1936 Ford truck that's been slightly modified, with a 426 Hemi under the hood that I can see from here, with what looks like injectors on it Hilburn fuel injectors, which is tough to run on the street.
• 1:42
  Speaker 2: I'm impressed.
• 1:43
Speaker 2: Tell us about the rest of it.
• 1:48
Speaker 3: Well, let me start off with that tough to run on the street.
• 1:50
  Speaker 3: Times have changed.
• 1:52
Speaker 3: We are now being able to go to Holley and order a fuel injection for almost anything you want.
• 2:00
  Speaker 3: So that's what I did.
• 2:03
Speaker 3: I have the fuel injection from holly.
• 2:06
  Speaker 3: The terminator x?
• 2:07
Speaker 3: Uh, just put it in and it's so.
• 2:10
  Speaker 3: It's all.
• 2:10
  Speaker 3: Uh, new technology.
• 2:12
  Speaker 3: Uh, idles, runs.
• 2:15
Speaker 3: You know it has all the, all the features of all the technology of the any other fuel injection so so it's.
• 2:22
Speaker 2: It's a fuel injected motor, but the the the hilburn stacks on it are your air cleaners.
• 2:28
Speaker 3: Yeah no, they're operable well, that's what I mean, but that's where you get your airflow in that's right, uh, just like on a regular one, but it doesn't quite work, the same as uh, so it's just a hilburn injectors it's just amazing that the new technology and how friendly it is and you just put it on a dyno and plug it in and if there's something wrong it'll tell you what's wrong and what to change or what have you.
• 2:49
Speaker 2: So it's a completely new terminator x uh fuel injection system that's built by holly well, I will say the engine compartment is full, definitely full, a lot of full there a lot of full, a lot of fun to work on I'll bet.
• 3:05
Speaker 2: So what do you got backing it up?
• 3:07
  Speaker 3: uh, it's a.
• 3:08
Speaker 3: Uh, uh, chrysler, uh, transmission it's a torque light torque, get radar.
• 3:14
  Speaker 3: 700 torque lights.
• 3:15
Speaker 3: Okay, uh-huh and uh, uh, pretty much stock converter.
• 3:20
  Speaker 3: Um.
• 3:21
Speaker 3: So it's real friendly, it's really designed to to cruise.
• 3:26
Speaker 3: It's got cruise control, tilt wheel, telescoping wheel, air condition freezes you out.
• 3:34
Speaker 3: It's just, uh, it's an old guy's truck and I'm old so is that black or like a root beer color?
• 3:41
Speaker 3: Uh, it is the dark cherry.
• 3:46
Speaker 3: Black cherry is what it is.
• 3:48
  Speaker 3: It's a black cherry.
• 3:49
Speaker 2: You can see the red flake in the sunspots.
• 3:50
Speaker 1: Well, on the back it looks like a brownish.
• 3:53
Speaker 2: Oh, you're right, it does.
• 3:54
Speaker 1: Listen, if you've had enough to drink, it could be any color you wanted to be.
• 3:57
Speaker 2: It could be yellow.
• 3:57
Speaker 2: You just tell us what color you wanted.
• 3:59
  Speaker 2: It's yellow.
• 3:59
  Speaker 3: That's right.
• 4:00
  Speaker 3: That's good Cheaper.
• 4:01
Speaker 3: You don't have to change paint jobs.
• 4:03
  Speaker 2: That's right.
• 4:03
Speaker 2: What do you got under the rear end of that?
• 4:12
  Speaker 3: It's a Ford 9-inch narrowed so it's prostrated.
• 4:15
Speaker 3: The body has been widened a couple inches all the way down.
• 4:20
  Speaker 1: No, it's actually.
• 4:23
Speaker 1: The fenders have been widened.
• 4:23
Speaker 1: I was just going to say you ain't getting that engine in a regular car like that, are those?
• 4:26
  Speaker 3: 14-inch ribs.
• 4:28
Speaker 3: Yes, yes, and those are 15s, 15s, 14s in front.
• 4:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what you're asking about.
• 4:36
Speaker 2: I was going to say it would be hard to get 14s that size nowadays 15s and it just drives like a dream.
• 4:50
Speaker 1: It rides like a Cadillac.
• 4:51
Speaker 1: It's quite the machine.
• 4:51
Speaker 1: Is it an automatic or a standard transmission?
• 4:53
Speaker 1: It's automatic, all right, so when you're doing 70, how many RPM you turning in that thing, do you do?
• 5:01
  Speaker 3: 70 in it.
• 5:02
  Speaker 3: Yeah, probably 35.
• 5:05
Speaker 1: Okay, so in other words, you're ready to run down the strip with it.
• 5:11
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, full disclosure.
• 5:13
  Speaker 3: I didn't build the truck.
• 5:14
Speaker 1: Have you ever been?
• 5:15
Speaker 3: down the strip with that thing.
• 5:16
  Speaker 3: No, no.
• 5:17
  Speaker 1: Why not?
• 5:17
Speaker 1: I've only had it less than a year and a half.
• 5:21
Speaker 1: Oh, he hasn't had time yet.
• 5:22
Speaker 1: We know people, we'll get you on the drag strip.
• 5:24
Speaker 1: See how that thing really does Burn up the clutch like I did.
• 5:30
Speaker 3: The guy that built, it was an engineer from Bell Helicopter, I've been all through it and what have you?
• 5:36
Speaker 3: But originally he was the builder.
• 5:39
Speaker 3: He built for comfort and he built it for cruising the coast.
• 5:44
Speaker 1: Has it got AC in it?
• 5:44
Speaker 1: That's what he did.
• 5:45
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it'll blow you out.
• 5:47
  Speaker 2: Really.
• 5:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, nice, yeah, it's got to have AC.
• 5:50
  Speaker 2: Absolutely yeah, buddy.
• 5:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, just I've never had a.
• 5:55
Speaker 3: What's unique about this truck is it's got a 426 hemi.
• 6:01
  Speaker 2: Right.
• 6:01
Speaker 3: In other words, that in itself is not unique, that it's got a Hemi, it's a 426.
• 6:08
Speaker 3: You see a lot of, you know, 392s and 333s and all kinds of stuff, but the 426s have all been sopped up.
• 6:17
Speaker 2: They're hard to find.
• 6:19
Speaker 1: Would you call it sopped up?
• 6:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of like good gravy.
• 6:22
Speaker 3: Yeah, because they're kind of like good gravy, yeah, exactly.
• 6:23
Speaker 3: And they take it and they restore these 1970 Chargers and make them worth a quarter million dollars.
• 6:30
Speaker 3: They've got to have the motor.
• 6:32
Speaker 1: Well, you be careful when you save that motor.
• 6:34
Speaker 1: The motor's going to be worth more than the car one of these days.
• 6:38
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really the motor that would bring the value to it.
• 6:42
Speaker 3: You know, I was talking to the guy that had the I don't know what year that Ford was.
• 6:47
Speaker 1: Thank you so much, jeffrey.
• 6:48
Speaker 1: I don't know what year it was, but I said, man, it's sacrilegious to me to put a Chevrolet in a Ford.
• 6:55
Speaker 1: He says, well, here's the reason, because it wasn't enough room between the firewall and the radiator for a Ford motor, because it's longer.
• 7:04
Speaker 1: Well, that makes sense to me.
• 7:06
Speaker 1: Now I get it, and I don't know about the HEMIs, but I assume that that HEMI fits and that they didn't extend the front end to get it to fit in there.
• 7:18
Speaker 3: I don't think they extended it, but boy, every inch of it's used.
• 7:24
Speaker 2: The distributor is in the front right.
• 7:26
Speaker 2: The distributor is in the front and that's the telltale sign.
• 7:30
Speaker 3: You know, the 426 Hemi, frankly, is just hands down.
• 7:34
Speaker 3: So much of an improvement.
• 7:35
Speaker 1: Don Garlitz would agree with you.
• 7:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, then it was the 392.
• 7:39
Speaker 3: But Don Garlitz ran his share of 392s.
• 7:41
Speaker 3: Hey, they're great, but for the street, and what have you?
• 7:45
Speaker 3: Not a full-blown gas, alcohol or nitro?
• 7:50
  Speaker 1: No, it's a street truck.
• 7:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the 426 is just.
• 7:53
Speaker 3: They made a great car.
• 7:55
Speaker 1: I was telling the boys I said you know part of the loveliness of these kinds of shows, the majority of these cars are drivers.
• 8:03
  Speaker 1: That's what I love.
• 8:05
Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely, soup them up, do whatever you want to, but drive it.
• 8:09
Speaker 1: I've had the show car, no timeout, there's a place for that.
• 8:14
  Speaker 1: I get it.
• 8:14
Speaker 1: Been there, done that.
• 8:16
Speaker 1: But I want to enjoy my car on the street.
• 8:18
Speaker 1: I want the kid or the guy that's my age pull up next to you and go right really love your.
• 8:26
Speaker 3: Do you get those?
• 8:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, but fewer and fewer of those kids pull up to you anymore and even look over.
• 8:31
  Speaker 1: Well, there's that.
• 8:31
Speaker 1: It's just crazy, yeah, maybe the grandkids.
• 8:34
Speaker 3: But I'll tell you this I've always driven what you know I've built.
• 8:39
Speaker 3: I've always driven my cars.
• 8:42
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 8:42
Speaker 3: And I've got a good friend and I'm going to blow him out of the water here now.
• 8:48
Speaker 3: Mine's PPG, but it's got a 429 Boss Hemi in it and it's Urnge.
• 8:56
Speaker 2: I'm looking at it.
• 8:57
Speaker 2: I'm looking at it.
• 8:57
Speaker 2: That's what you do.
• 8:59
Speaker 1: And you've already won the awards oh.
• 9:01
Speaker 1: I've got a garage full of them, yeah, and so that's great Congratulations.
• 9:05
Speaker 3: But I'm the car Wind in your face Right, so the car wind in your face right, so I've ruined the car, so I'm going to sell it eventually.
• 9:13
Speaker 3: I mean I've got, I've got to drop the motor in it and wire it and that's, that's done.
• 9:15
Speaker 3: But I mean it's been, it's been in build stage forever this is.
• 9:19
Speaker 3: I used to drive it everywhere.
• 9:21
Speaker 3: Is that a mustang in the back?
• 9:22
Speaker 1: no, he's got, it's a mustang motorcycle they built them from 1947 to 1965.
• 9:30
  Speaker 3: That is a 65.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: The last year made I used to love those things.
• 9:34
  Speaker 3: In the day.
• 9:36
Speaker 3: Boy, if you had a Cushman, that was one thing.
• 9:39
Speaker 1: I had a friend of mine that had a Mustang in junior high school and he drove it to junior high school.
• 9:43
Speaker 3: It looks like it's got a Springer front end from here, or no.
• 9:46
Speaker 1: No, it's just stock, it's spring.
• 9:48
Speaker 1: It's spring, but it's just stock.
• 9:49
Speaker 3: It's spring, it's sprung, but it's internal springs.
• 9:51
Speaker 3: But no, a true story.
• 9:55
Speaker 3: I have never seen a Mustang motorcycle in my life.
• 9:59
  Speaker 3: I'm 69.
• 10:02
Speaker 1: Don't tell anybody else that Don't tell anybody on this show that.
• 10:06
Speaker 3: But anyway, running, and back to when I was in third grade.
• 10:11
Speaker 3: We had neighbors who had two boys who had these motorcycles in Pasadena.
• 10:16
Speaker 3: You were ruined for life and I remembered it forever and so I always wanted, you know, a Mustang.
• 10:24
Speaker 3: And the first time I ever heard one run, I had to own it.
• 10:26
Speaker 3: I bought it a couple years back.
• 10:29
Speaker 2: Just like you say the Cushman.
• 10:30
Speaker 2: If you had a Cushman, you had a scooter.
• 10:32
Speaker 3: You had a scooter.
• 10:33
Speaker 2: If you want a motorcycle, you've got to step up.
• 10:35
Speaker 3: Man, these kids coming back from Dom and stuff like that.
• 10:37
Speaker 3: If you had a Mustang you were the cat's, whatever you know.
• 10:42
Speaker 3: Benders off my 47 Fiat Topolino, turned it around backwards.
• 10:46
Speaker 3: I love it, it looks great yeah, turned around backwards, and so we built the trailer from a.
• 10:52
Speaker 3: That was a regular fold-up trailer at first, and we started modifying it, you know and so ended up with putting those Fiat fenders on it and painting it.
• 11:03
Speaker 1: I want to ask you a bit more about that, mustang.
• 11:08
Speaker 1: You drive it, yes.
• 11:08
Speaker 1: How is it Great, it's old school school, I know, I know it is and it's very small and the tires and wheels on it like, are you kidding me?
• 11:18
  Speaker 1: What?
• 11:18
  Speaker 1: What is?
• 11:19
Speaker 3: that that was the same as the cushman, though the same size and nobody would ever.
• 11:24
Speaker 1: You look at that today.
• 11:25
Speaker 1: I haven't seen original one in a long time.
• 11:27
Speaker 1: You look at that today and it all just takes you back going.
• 11:30
Speaker 1: I remember them, but I don't remember them with the small wheel.
• 11:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the way that they were yeah, this one has a high compression.
• 11:37
Speaker 3: Polished head is the only thing that I know of that it's been done to how?
• 11:40
Speaker 1: many cc's is that oh, you know you would uh because the motor doesn't look very big, about about 150 150 cc's, so it's probably got about I don't know 25, 35 horsepower.
• 11:53
Speaker 3: It has 15 horse, 15 horse, yeah, yeah, and now maybe a little more because of that head.
• 11:59
Speaker 3: But here's the Mustang news.
• 12:00
Speaker 3: This comes out quarterly and it shows all the guys are.
• 12:04
Speaker 3: You know, our age.
• 12:07
  Speaker 1: Old like us.
• 12:08
Speaker 3: And so anyway, who knew they do that quarterly and then they have an annual event.
• 12:15
Speaker 1: I was going to say have you ever been to one of their shows?
• 12:17
Speaker 3: No, I have not, you've got to take that thing with you.
• 12:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, I really need to.
• 12:20
Speaker 2: In that truck, in that truck yeah.
• 12:23
Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's a, but I mean, all my life I wanted one of those things and it just finally came up.
• 12:30
Speaker 1: Well, where did you find it Online?
• 12:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, you can find them.
• 12:33
Speaker 3: You can find them, I mean, they're out there.
• 12:39
  Speaker 1: There's a market for them.
• 12:39
Speaker 1: Older guys turn them into their grandkids and their grandkids.
• 12:43
Speaker 1: Well, the nice thing about that, it hasn't been modified.
• 12:44
Speaker 1: It looks like an original.
• 12:45
Speaker 3: It's pretty original yeah.
• 12:46
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 12:57
Speaker 3: It hasn't been all dolled up and everything, and that's what I like.
• 12:59
  Speaker 3: Yeah, it's uh, it's, it's, it's, uh, it's old school, it's not like.
• 13:00
Speaker 3: I remember when the hondas came out it was so smooth they were.
• 13:01
Speaker 3: So, yes, you push the button, they'd start.
• 13:02
Speaker 3: This thing will break your leg.
• 13:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got compression.
• 13:05
Speaker 3: I got a buddy that showed me a bruise on the back of his leg.
• 13:08
  Speaker 3: Yes, I remember.
• 13:08
Speaker 3: Do you have a leather helmet that you can wear?
• 13:09
Speaker 2: so oh my, no, no, that would be in.
• 13:09
Speaker 2: I got a buddy that showed me a bruise on the back of his leg today.
• 13:10
Speaker 2: That big thing, yes, I remember.
• 13:11
Speaker 2: Do you have a leather helmet that you can wear?
• 13:13
  Speaker 2: Oh, mike.
• 13:15
Speaker 1: No, that would be in your garage.
• 13:16
Speaker 2: You bet, If I had that I would definitely have one.
• 13:19
Speaker 1: My God, you know what they had advanced beyond the leather in 1965, michael.
• 13:24
Speaker 2: God, give us a little credit.
• 13:26
Speaker 2: But the other one, you can't get the flap.
• 13:28
Speaker 2: The ear flaps don't flap as you're going down the road.
• 13:30
Speaker 2: Do you think that would fit in our booth at autorama?
• 13:34
Speaker 1: that would look good, would it?
• 13:35
Speaker 1: I think just the car the trailer.
• 13:37
Speaker 2: We already have somebody for autorama, yeah jim's gonna come over from louisiana gonna come over, so just checking.
• 13:43
Speaker 1: Uh, we need to stay in touch with you sure, absolutely because every year we, uh, we bring a different car from somebody.
• 13:51
Speaker 1: They're nice enough to loan us a car for seven days and we put it in the booth at Autorama with us in our broadcast booth.
• 14:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, we sure would like to have that Mustang in there and you'll have it judged and we'll pay the entry fee for it.
• 14:05
Speaker 2: And the folks that have brought their cars in have won prizes, have won trophies, every one of them.
• 14:09
Speaker 3: Every one has won a trophy.
• 14:10
Speaker 3: Every one of them, great, great.
• 14:11
Speaker 3: Okay, I'll have to step it up a couple inches more then.
• 14:15
Speaker 1: No, don't do nothing.
• 14:16
Speaker 1: We like it the way it is.
• 14:18
Speaker 1: It's a pleasure and honor to talk to you, but I've got good friends.
• 14:22
Speaker 3: One I already picked on Joe Saro.
• 14:24
Speaker 3: He's got a barn full of beautiful cars.
• 14:26
Speaker 3: And then Jack Wernley has helped me a whole lot on my cars.
• 14:33
Speaker 3: Uh, he's trying to get out here today.
• 14:34
Speaker 3: He was putting a fuel pump on, so hopefully he'll make it.
• 14:35
Speaker 3: He's been out here before and he's he told me about it in fringewood and he told me about it and he he said, oh, you should go.
• 14:41
Speaker 3: And I told him today I was on the way out there.
