- 0:11[SPEAKER_03]: What's up everybody?
- 0:12[SPEAKER_03]: Welcome on in that time of week.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_03]: Bit delayed.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_03]: So here's an SI pod getting back together reporting live in the radio station as I can't report live from Norman because there is chainsawing happening in the background.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_03]: Hope everyone had a happy and safe forth to July, especially those Norman residents out there trust me.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_03]: My parents placed, we were going through it and we know exactly what you're going through.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_03]: Two fences fell.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_03]: off of like EF1 caliber straight line wins the night of the fourth July happy birthday America here's some storm damage for you but we are back up and running ready to rock and roll we get the whole crew with the ride Chapman here hang out in okay see we got the man the mid the legend John Hoover himself John you're back in the Q&A game it looks like it sounds like have you had some fun working down memory lane with some Oklahoma grates that spread out
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, fun stuff tonight at one oak field where the drillers play.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to participate in a Q&A for the all-world team, the 2026 all-world team.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: There's a 10th anniversary of the big year-long package that I did embedded with local high school heroes from Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Mason and Jason, Mason Fine and Jason Pertle.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: So, 10 years since that bad boy ran, I've got a kind of a collage of the photos in the
- 1:34[SPEAKER_01]: newspaper layouts that we did over here at the Tulsa world so uh looking forward to yeah catching up with those guys tonight Matt Hennessy and Dave Blavin's the offensive coordinator all the numbers that those guys set man it was just an incredible year
- 1:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's the cool as you kind of share that out on Facebook and different places.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: So excited for you this evening, the great world traveler course and field.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: Carson, you made it in and out safe.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: I'm happy you got some much deserved time off after you and who've both got the extra meal ticket when it comes to working deep into June with the baseball crew.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was great to go to Colorado for a few days.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: It was going to go in late June, Oklahoma baseball and the heater they were on.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: They pushed that back a few weeks, but glad to make it out.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: Glad I made it out of Norman too, when they dealt with all this weather, obviously.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, your parents a lot of houses out here, saw some damage by apartment complex got some too.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: So definitely left at the right time, but glad it seems like everyone for the most parts pretty safe out here.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: Glad to be back too.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: not too far off from football season trying to get as much rest as I can before some of those long road trips that we're going to go on.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited for it.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_03]: We trigger winning.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_03]: We're close.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_03]: We're so close to things getting underway, the great grind.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_03]: A, Bertoy and so on.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_03]: I may have to borrow some of your saws and things is we've got a tree trunk.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: So it had felled the tree and of course we have one set of neighbors.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_03]: that also has dogs, our neighbors on the other sides, dog free.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_03]: So it could have been a situation where like scout the dog, while ideally not in other people's baggages, but okay, no, of course, the tree trunk goes through the fence with the dog.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_03]: We've got the tree trunk pulled back over the fences up, but I might need some larger saws than the 20 inch big saw that we've got, because it's not going through that bad boy.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can see if I can help you out.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: Chainsaw is about the only kind of saw I don't have.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: Don't own, but I know some people with them and I've used them before.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: So, glad to help you out, especially after you helped me moved my massive 350 pound band saw.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: What was that in December?
- 3:45[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know how much help I actually was.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_03]: We had to kind of flagged out some other people, but you know, that's either here.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just going to mark it for you.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: We got it done.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever it took.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm just in the market for the big, you know, like the lumberjack uh, chaps that they have that have some of the safety stuff that they can like tangle up the loose chainsaw.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'm in the market for some uh, lumberjack chaps.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_03]: If we've got just hit drop a line, that's where Riot Chapman on Twitter.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_03]: No.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_03]: Under way, guys, as we've settled in here, I was pretty glad to look across the college sports landscape.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_03]: And our friends in the Big 12, they have officially kicked off talking season.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_03]: And while we are still a couple weeks away from the SEC taking over Tampa, who, as I looked up and down the storylines and the moments that were at Frisco at the store, I gotta say,
- 4:38[SPEAKER_03]: did not have much phomo especially as we had the double face palm to end all face palms as Texas tech needed decided that they're just gonna i love it because it's all world it appears i i did not realize that uh... people inside love it didn't understand what the issue was with the gambling on the sport you play situation i don't i didn't
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure I understood the premise or the context of the question, and I don't think when it struck your mark, when it struck Brett your mark, I think he was like, now what?
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, hang on, ask me that again, stand up.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: And ask me that again, if very kind of a cocky arrogant move by him, but the question itself, if you go back and you hash it out and you listen to it again, it's like, what the hell?
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, first of all, what exactly is he trying to say?
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: Because he never made it clear.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: Second, is he even close to correct on his premise?
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's got to be guys, one of the dumbest questions I've ever heard at any media day, just the the overall general presentation of the question.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then the context behind the question,
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's it, I wonder, was that like the first question?
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: I hope not, I hope not, welcome to Media Day.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: What do you got?
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you don't like us anymore.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_03]: It was the rare ones.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_03]: It was the rare loose loose, I think, because it was a moment where listen, media days is a little bit of a circus.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_03]: It's helpful to us.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: It's good for the cosplay as far as like, okay, we're this much closer to fall camp, but we've all been in the Media Day situation where
- 6:17[SPEAKER_03]: There's a couple of people that you know locally that when they get the mic everybody white knuckles the table in front of it's like this is going to be a journey I'm sure that there are many around of but it was also like regardless of the question.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't understand what your mark it was like a little see was trying to do like the mafia so like stand up stand up You took me out of context.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not answering.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_03]: It was the rare moment where like I think everyone came out looking dumb in that situation
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, certainly wasn't a great look to your point.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, media days can be an absolute frenzy.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: I know last year at SEC, media day, Brent Venables got asked about Navy and opponent.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's not on the future schedules.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: They played in a somewhat meaningless bowl game.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: Jeff Levy took a question about, I think Mario Crayfer of the first question he got asked.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: A player that wasn't part of this program anymore.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, you never know what's going to be asked.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty ridiculous.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think the situations kind of open
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, a lot of Texas, the kind of IQ that some of their fans at Texas Tech might have.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: But here in order there, that should be a good football team this year.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: It is exciting even if it isn't the SEC's media day.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: That there is a media day going on from a power conference.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: It does mean that we're getting close.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: So that part is exciting.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: Don't question the side.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_03]: This podcast is not sponsored by Monster Energy, but if Celsius, if ghost, if Starbucks wants to get in, but any form of caffeine, we are open.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I will request that you will let us change your logos colors to fit the color scheme of the suitors on that side podcast and the suitors on that side.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_03]: branding is opposed to going with monster energy yellow, although if Mountain Dew wants to come in, they might have sorry boys, I might just be like Mountain Dew, you get to stay green yellow, whatever it is.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_03]: And last all that, I was actually interested.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_03]: I was tuned to Big Tell Media Days for two reasons usually.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_03]: One, it's like the start of Media Days and us locally on the radio and you did kind of tune into what Eric Morris had to say for Oklahoma State, which I thought in twofold like.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: He did fine, but it also wasn't anything different than what we had heard locally stuff like that.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_03]: So it wasn't like super newsworthy.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_03]: I was interested in Cincinnati.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_03]: Their angle about this.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_03]: We've been so laser focused on Texas tech that it's kind of blown under the radar.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_03]: Cincinnati.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_03]: They're just like, uh,
- 8:33[SPEAKER_03]: don't pay attention to what happened in the sources situation.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_03]: I know that the uh there's been a report now that the NCA is open in inquiry or whatever it was, but I thought that was the perfect moment.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_03]: Like if you were the Texas Tech Media and maybe TF on they're like, okay, I know that e-all that Texas Tech
- 8:50[SPEAKER_03]: But is Cincinnati ever going to get to hear the bell for anything about this because all the reports from the gambling commissions and stuff like that say that this was like an active case, well, he was at Cincinnati instead by posturing the way that it was it almost gave your mark the free out to just say I'm not answering any of these questions is supposed to actually addressing the whole bare cats of it all, which I don't know if it was a problem by Cincinnati, but they're just like, we're just gobbling down on some skyline chilly in the court and be like us what's happening.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's worked out well for them.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: They've sort of, you know, done the Homer Simpson sort of fade into the hedge type of move.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: But certainly they're going to look at it and see, you know, what they knew when they knew it.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: Although the watergate stuff to, you know, figure it out.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: But it's.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: Coach football is always drama, but this was a heck of a way to start off media day season.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: It couldn't have been more entertaining than going out with a big 12 and doing it, although it would have been fun if the big 12 media days were in Vegas this year.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: for a lot of reasons, but it's also even more fun that it's in Frisco because that means the Texas tech media, some of the media who maybe wouldn't typically make that trip, could make it over and we could at least get some of those moments.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: Media Day questions are often ridiculous because a lot of times you're asking questions of people that you don't normally talk to and you're just
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: I remember last year what was it, you know, Carson alluded to the, uh, uh, the Navy question that Brent Vinnables got, but there were a lot of Auburn questions, even though you was playing Auburn last year, it was sort of disproportionate, uh, to everything, but that's just sort of what the media day season is, but it was, uh, fun to watch it and not have to, uh, really mess with it from, uh, our perspective, the drama can be somewhere else for, for
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that you said it it was in Dallas reminded me of the the Jim the jewel of the whole thing was our good friend Stephen Hawking from the Associated Press could do it this Right next to the guy asking the question right behind the guy asking the questions made me think of that that Little video that little meme video of the Scottish lady that's yelling out to her horse or horses laying in the field and she's like Stephen I thought you were dead
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: To a horse and I just wanted to yell out to Stephen Hawking Steven.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: I thought you would dead
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I even is one of my favorite people in the media.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: So that was fantastic to see.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_03]: It was great there.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_03]: I felt bad what this is going to be inside this.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to serve ourselves here for two seconds directly behind the question Asker who the great idiot ostrich has come to.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_03]: Think you stay with Sean Dixon.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_03]: He just keeps going.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Sean Spicer, which I think is hilarious in its own way.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_03]: But like directly behind him is Eric Bailey.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: but E.B.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_03]: is blocked out by the framing and all that stuff and I just felt bad that our guy E.B.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_03]: didn't get his shun because if he's got to go through that too, I wanted the E.B.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_03]: reactions and he's texting all of it and she's like, I can't believe this is happening.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_03]: What's going on?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_03]: It was a quiet day in the best way for Oklahoma State.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: Again, I thought that like for Morris you see to get out of there and not get like the Kurt Signetti tag of like you have to win
- 12:22[SPEAKER_03]: which was good there.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_03]: It's been really quiet on the OU front outside of recruiting.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_03]: We'll get through the recruiting here in a minute Which is what you want this time here, right?
- 12:29[SPEAKER_03]: This time of year is the rare moment where you don't want anything popped up about your program Because usually that means it's a bad thing unless you're announcing like Kansas just had a Jersey sponsorship stuff like that, but
- 12:40[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma will be in the center stage here in a couple of weeks.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure at some point, maybe by the end of this week, or next week, we'll get the representatives for OU as they head over to SEC Media Days in Tampa.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_03]: We know Brett Metables will speak.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, he's been pretty standard on three guys.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to take John material off the board because if you have a quarterback, they're going
- 13:00[SPEAKER_03]: If you have a returning quarterback, they're definitely going.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_03]: But of course, one guy who's one guy that you really, really hope makes their way over to Tampa, just because whether they'll just be a good representative for the program, whether they're interesting or anything like that, because oh, you've got some great talkers to choose from.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: They do.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think the first one that comes to mind is Kip Lewis.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: He was such a big part in the defense being as good as it was.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's someone that has been a big player in this defense for a few years now.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's someone that's really good to talk to.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: We love every time that we get to talk to Kip Lewis.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: So he's fantastic.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Owen Heineck, he's another great talker.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: He has a lot to talk about considering his injunction that whole appeals process.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: going through a pro day, everything like that.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, he would be intriguing too.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: So Tanya, we get him occasionally.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's not someone that just loves talking, not someone that is just your best talker on the team, but after his season, I mean, I wouldn't be surprised either if he is someone who they would send out there, because he was just phenomenal after transferring in from Arkansas.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of really good options, obviously.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't mind hearing from Tate Sandell.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of people would just because it's special teams
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: But the same attention that your skill position players, but I'm very excited when we get the chance to talk again to Tate Sandel because winning the groves is so hard to do.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think he's going to be a representative at media day.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, there's a lot of different people to choose from, but that's that's a good problem to have.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: So during what the what the outlook looked like heading into the 2025 season for a shop of a six and seven record.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: Now this is a team that has just gone to the playoff.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: There are so many different guys that they can choose from.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_00]: and I think when you fans have to be excited about that.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_03]: Kate, what have been a good big tell media today?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_03]: Where there are a little bit more laws they fair about, like how many D-Bread if you're getting three that you're going to go special, T-Bread.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_03]: Owen and Kip are great just because Owen has the very unique story, but Kip is a guy.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_03]: There's a couple of these members of the defense that
- 14:58[SPEAKER_03]: Um, have had the, like, you saw at its worst when you were a freshman or a venture freshman watching on, be able to grow through that.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_03]: And it's something to that I think we saw Jim Naggi was yesterday or two days ago.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_03]: He had kind of put out there like,
- 15:13[SPEAKER_03]: Man, I hear a ton from NFL scouts about Kiplus asking questions.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_03]: And yet, the national media don't ever talk about Kit.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe just because they look at his measurables and don't go, oh, my gosh.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: He's, you know, 235 or something like that.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_03]: But I'd love to, like, I feel like the live actors would be the perfect representation of a print-vinnable's team as far as that goes.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_03]: Average kind of interesting outside of a tier.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe Satania, although it's not like a knock on Satania.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_03]: He had a great season.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: He's not the most, um,
- 15:42[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think you loves doing the media stuff, which is fine.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think I would want to talk to it.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_03]: See, if you're looking at the offensive, another representative would send in a hate and handson to talk about the run game, but not that I think they're doing this thing.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_03]: What message do you want to send about the program with?
- 15:58[SPEAKER_03]: Who goes?
- 15:58[SPEAKER_03]: But I think that would be a good, like, someone that gets you some more good insights as far as the further development, potentially, from the OTA portion of the summer type situation.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, listen to Hayden Hansen talk at the newcomer's media day and during the spring.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: He's also, you know, an interesting talker, which is something, you know, we always like, and it wasn't that he was saying, you know, really controversial things, although that can be fun too, but just, you know, insightful about the program about his position group about Jason Witten about, you know, the state of the offense.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: So I think he would be a good pick.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: Although I think if you're taking three guys, you're very likely to take John Matier and two defensive guys.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: It would sort of surprise me if they took two offensive guys among the three because John Matier feels like a no-brainer sort of got to be there type of guy.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then the defense obviously has been the face of this program over the last few years.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be fascinating to see you, who those other guys wind up being.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: I would like to see at least one of the linebackers that you all mentioned represented, but there's quite a few other options there.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: Although another interesting option for me on the offensive side would be one of those offensive linemen.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: you mentioned, I think, Jake Micola in your, you know, breakdown of possibilities, but, you know, how about a guy like Michael Fassouci or Ryan Fogey?
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: Or even Eddie Parallel, we, those guys, generally have been, you know, interesting to talk to when we've gotten those opportunities.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'll back you up there.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go with, I'll go with, uh,
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: Who'd you just say not fo Jenny for sushi on the left side for sushi.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'll go with I'll go with for sushi for two reasons One he's gone he's he's the one that's going to represent the Oklahoma offensive line over as the man coming out after games before games
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: talking about what the offensive line did, how good they were, how good they were not.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, maybe how bad they were.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to be the representative for that O line for the next two years, at least the next two years.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: Before he goes off to the NFL.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: The second thing is, he's the guy up there that's most likely to get because of his five star status.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's the guy that's most likely to get mentioned for outland trophy, lumbarty trophy and stuff like that.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: Because of his stature, because of his, you know, comes in with that reputation.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: And now he's backing it up on the field, so here's a guy who can do all that, you know, you put him out there for interviews, put his face out there, let people see how smart he is.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: He's a guy that's going to sweep some of those awards later in his career.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: He's one that I think would be one that you'd love to see.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_03]: Jake Myclet sounds like it's kind of emerged as one of those vocal leaders.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_03]: So if you want to go like the, hey, like an offensive line guy, and you want to get some of that in the leadership group back in it up, but then it's hard to look away though from the potential the options that are on the defensive line especially because isn't it crazy how if you had said three or four years ago that Oklahoma
- 19:11[SPEAKER_03]: they could take just they can fill up a whole boat of defensive linemen and that would be something that would be like more than fine with everybody between David Stone and Jaden Jackson certainly up the middle or a tailor-wine who's really emerged at the end of last season to help kind of cover up the whole for Armace and Thomas that would be incredible although if I could if I could do like the slab shot if I could pick one guy to say please get him on a podium in Tampa that guy
- 19:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's Cortland Gillery and he's a sophomore and he's a sophomore who's not bashful, which means that probably not going to be an option from Oklahoma, but Cortland, I think Oklahoma fans know this, not short on confidence, that's part of why he was able to step out there as a true freshman and back up with Eli Bowen did it cross or man, but I'd be really excited about that because I know that with Lamar Morgan coming in, he's got like a pretty established group to work with, but
- 20:03[SPEAKER_03]: Of course, I'm just excited about what this Oklahoma cornerback room is going to be.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_03]: Gillery, Eli Bowen, that's a good fantastic one, two punch.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_03]: Having Jacobi Johnson to be able to rotate in that gives you depth immediately.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm really interested to kind of see what's the growth that you've seen from
- 20:18[SPEAKER_03]: But I go to fields or somebody like that coming in, a guy who's trying to restart his career after some injuries, derailed it, Oregon, and it's going to be, I think, a really, really fascinating group is we continue to monitor the growth of Bikoboganski on the back end alongside a Peyton Bowen, but it's one of those things, I don't know if you need new names to step up, because if the guys that we know deliver in our healthy all year long, it's going to be another group that's leading this defense.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's a group that could take a big step forward this year.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: You get a junior Eli Bowen, a Portland Hillary that's now a sophomore, Jacoby Johnson, a really good backup at that position.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to take, like I said, a big step forward and they're going to have to, because you look at the receivers, they're going to face, whether that's Cam Coleman that Texas, Isaiah Canyon at Georgia, Mario Craverday and M. I mean, weekend and week out.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: minus those games against Utah and New Mexico.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to face some stars at that position.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: But I think some of those reps, some of those reps they lost last year against Cam Coleman in the Auburn game, lots of your Brooks in the Alabama playoff game.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's going to help obviously one more year of coaching from
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: One more, Morgan and Brent Binnables.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's going to go a long way, but I'm with you.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a position group that there was not a weakling whatsoever on this defense last year, but that is one where we saw flashes of okay that could get better against a star receiver.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they're going to take a big step in that department this year.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: So seeing that on the field, something I'm really excited for this year.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_03]: Especially as you just talk about like, you go through all the loves of Lyokal with the defense Ryan and it's okay, you've got Taylor wine returning awesome you've got Jayden Jackson David Stone, you've got Dania Koye and PJ who can step into different roles,
- 22:06[SPEAKER_03]: It might not be as deep as it was a year ago and I think that is this era of college football moves on and on we'll look back and go that was special that you could get that kind of depth on one side of the ball and the era of the portal and things like that, but it's a group that they're going to have time.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_03]: to build that depth and backfill because as long as they stay healthy and I guess, which I think is like maybe the number one biggest key just for the Oklahoma defense is make it through August and get onto the field in September.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think that there should be great expectation that you're not going to have this big drop off by any means or even really a backslide for Oklahoma's defense.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and that's the thing that had been missing for this defense for a while, even as the talent had started to build up, which it had, you know, over the last few years, it was just that death and being able to, you know, roll out your second and third guy and feel really comfortable about their ability to go out there and make plays and it sort of becomes.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: uh... you know sell feeding if you can hold on to those guys because you can develop guys a whole lot better when they're actually able to get on the field and play a few plays uh... i i think we'll see uh... you know that come into play this year with guys like michael boganowski and uh... you know even uh... down omerian robinson plays players like that who played some last year uh... and i i think that can help sort of boost them into
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: this year.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's not going to be the same amount of depth I think as they had last year, but I think there's a lot of talent still on this roster and even though you can't pinpoint, hey, this guy's going to be the Taylor wine that makes this next big-time jumper, or this guy's going to be the Coral and Gillery, there sort of comes out of nowhere to become a regular starter.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: several of those players, whoever they are not making those kind of leaps.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: I think you're going to see some of those players who maybe we're not that we're not expecting or sort of on the list of players who could.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think at least a few of those players are going to make that kind of leap.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'd be really surprised if that didn't happen.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's not the sexiest thing for us here in a couple of weeks as we inch closer and close to fall camp.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_03]: To the start of August, we'll be like everybody, hey, here's your like position battles to watch and things like that.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_03]: Not always the sexiest thing they want to be like, hey, the defensive and spot.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_03]: behind Taylor wide or hey, who between a call solvener Reggie powers, it's less about who's one of that position, just who wins out on getting more snaps here there or the safety behind Peyton Bowen or Debt behind me, but I ask you, but as a coaching staff, that's where you want to be.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you want those fall camp battles to be, hey, you still got guys pushing, but
- 25:04[SPEAKER_03]: If Damian Koye and PJ battling is really the only like starter restarter battle outside of what we're going to use Sullivan or Reggie Powers in this package of that package, that means that you've had some success, especially as you saw, Grayson Holtton has signed his NFL contract, right, as far as that, because you just had our Mason Thomas draft in the second round, and it's not like you're by default slotting in all man, Taylor Wein's got to start like not everyone's stoked about that.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's the exact spot that you want to be in as a coaching staff and as a front office.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: And those guys have done an amazing job locating the talent recruiting talent and then retaining the talent as a staff going from from Jim naggy to all we have to bring intervals.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: But when you look at the talent that has been acquired and then developed.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: and even put forward into the NFL by Todd Bates and Miguel Chavis both guys who don't they have it they had a track record where they were but with Oklahoma fans there's just naturally going to be skepticism those guys have been wildly productive with some of the people that they
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: have brought in and developed and and we want to see now that we want to see the next step from P.J.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: Audubori, you know, six, four, two, sixty comes in with an NFL body and five star credentials and just kind of hasn't done anything yet.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: He's so he came in so raw.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: but the it's you know look at his big brother playing in the NFL his his potential is unlimited and then you got a guy like Daniel Koya who is so athletic everything he does and if uh just whoever wins that battle whoever wins that position battle is going to win a lot of snaps but
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to be a pretty solid rotation between the two of those guys, as well as Taylor won on the other end, makes you wonder who the fourth guy is going to be, because I think they've identified their top three, makes you wonder who the fourth guy is going to be, while, while, while getting them over, is going to be, guy who registered last year C.J.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: Nixon, somebody like that, because could Jake Crowe come out and be an impact player as a true freshman.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, it's going to be fun to watch.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_03]: And also interesting too, is a, like with P.J.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_03]: look at it.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_03]: So year one, I think, who've been every, probably remember this three, well, like he was coming out of that Cincinnati game, where they really, really needed them.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_03]: And Brett Venables talked about the story he told us he has the iPad, he's breaking down film.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_03]: And he's running back to Miguel Chema's being like, we gotta get this guy on the field more.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_03]: Miguel's like, we played 30 steps, right?
- 27:30[SPEAKER_03]: He played like half the game coach, but it was in front of like, okay, good.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_03]: Then year two, he had the,
- 27:35[SPEAKER_03]: It was one of the crazier injury stories that we heard coming into week one, right?
- 27:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like it was one of the, I think, canaries in the coal mine about how just a bonkers injury season is going to be that they were literally doing a dress rehearsal.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, this is, this is what it's like when we get to the stadium and this is how we run through the tunnel and stuff like that.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_03]: And he tweaks the tendency and his ankle going through like a dress rehearsal, basically.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_03]: And then about time he gets to last year, it felt like he had kind of a
- 28:03[SPEAKER_03]: Rattin himself out as like a run stop or maybe not the pass rush Acumen that you would have thought with you see just how physically Dominant he could be he's gonna be an extra guy.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_03]: He took the damage tone trip to the portal The 48 hours or you know gone in 60 seconds portal edition He's a guy though that because he came under the scene early
- 28:26[SPEAKER_03]: He's a true senior, which means if he's able to like cement himself a little bit in the rotation this year is more of a difference maker.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_03]: He'll have the choice to make it the in the next season about go to the NFL, stay to know you, he could be a guy that actually portals as opposed to it.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be interesting to see how some of these veteran guys that it's kind of like the COVID roster math I'll over again where
- 28:48[SPEAKER_03]: You weren't really sure had really game plan for you to stay here next year, but you got the extra.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to be really, really fast to see what development a guy like PJ has this year in general and what that means for, oh, you didn't necessarily need another guy to head if they keep him for none of the year, because he stays for a bit there.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that will be fascinating to watch because he's a guy that, well, yes, like Hoover was talking about, hasn't really lived up to that potential at this point.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_02]: That potential is still there.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's not like it's, you know, washed away and you just sort of write them off.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen flashes of him being really good.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, he, like you said, carved out a role last year that was, was valuable.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_02]: on this this defense of front that had a lot of guys in a lot of different roles and they were able to you know do different things with different personnel packages and you can certainly see that he's got the ability to expand beyond that but even if he's able to do what he did last year and do it really well and do it better than he did I think he can still be a really valuable piece for this defense so I don't think he's
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: going to be a guy that they're just going to, you know, if the possibility of him hanging around for another year is on the table, that they're just going to say, hey, you know, go off, you know, we don't want you anymore, but it's certainly going to be really interesting to see how this thing plays out and what that decision, you know, ultimately winds up being if, if you
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: He does the things that we I think a lot of us expect him to do and he's able to to make that leap and have that decision to, you know, be on the table for it.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: It's uh, where we're getting closer and closer, we're inching toward it.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's mag season right now right.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_03]: Your lindies is out there.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_03]: You're picking three views if you're in the mix on that.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_03]: I know that we talked with Phil steel this morning and he's pumped for Barnes and Noble week Carson it roll it into it.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_03]: Phil had Oklahoma as number seven in his like preseason projections.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_03]: He was very very happy with Brent Minimals is Phil had Oklahoma says like number one surprise team last year.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_03]: He's like so plus plus for Brent Minimals for getting them to the CFP.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_03]: It feels like as we lurch into
- 31:03[SPEAKER_03]: Preseason policies and preseason preview like Oklahoma.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_03]: It looks like they've grouped themselves into that group of teams that are anywhere from like six to 13 14 15 where it's basically just like How are you feeling about geometry or I think it's probably going to be the spot where they land for each individual quality.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_03]: It's a good spot for them kind of coming into this preseason into fall camp.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think seven's a pretty good place for them to be.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think they could be in that range kind of like you said anywhere from about seven eight to I don't know worst case scenario 14th.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: Last year I believe there were 18th and the preseason AP poll and the floor is just so much higher than it was a year ago seeing how good the defense is.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: even losing guys like Armace and Thomas, Grayson Haltton, Kindle Daniels, the defense should still be really dang good.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: And even if Jon material, let's say that version of Jon material that we saw late in the season was the actual Jon material, which I personally don't believe it to be.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: That team still got to the playoffs, that team didn't have a lot of weapons.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: They have reinforced that with not only Isaiah Satania, but Parker Livingstone, trail heroness, an offensive line that should be better and more mature.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, minus losing Fibesci, we who's obviously outstanding now playing for the Houston Texans.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, the floors a lot higher in the ceiling should be higher too.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: That said, the schedule is really dang hard when you look at three teams that were in the college football playoff last year.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: Then you got teams like Texas, Missouri, Michigan that have a lot of talent
- 32:32[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of teams that we don't know what to expect about whether that's South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi State.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: So it is a really stacked schedule and it's not going to be easy for them to make it back to play off.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I think the wind total I think is at seven and a half this year.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would be hard for them not to clear that with even as difficult as the schedule is like I just said,
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: how much talent this team has, how well coach they are, getting some of their games alike, Texas A&M and Ole Miss at home, that works in their favor too.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got to think that some of those difficult games, even if worst case scenario happens, they're going to be able to flip at least some of those.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't see seven wins as an object for this team.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_03]: That's something who that does all over that too.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_03]: He was like, is it actually seven and a half?
- 33:18[SPEAKER_03]: He was like, yeah, it opened at seven times.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_03]: I would like to come back on and see if that's been raised up there.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_03]: It's just one of those things that I think that that's less about.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe this is something that we're going to get used to as we get a couple more years into the
- 33:33[SPEAKER_03]: Super conference mega conference for the SEC in the big tin like you just look up and I don't come to schedule and to put it seven and a half with at Michigan at Georgia Red River rivalry in the swamp even though we don't really know what to expect in your one with some raw Ole Miss a team obviously come back to Norman and in like like Carson mentioned having to go to Missouri it's one of the things where it's like I don't think it's it like a indictment
- 33:56[SPEAKER_03]: or a vote of no confidence in Brent Metabals.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're just going to start seeing that if you're a nailed-on conference favorite, they're going to put you at like the nine and a half ballpark.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_03]: And then I think like everybody else in the big twer, or the SEC in the big tin is just going to kind of everybody, it's seven and a half for like 80 you guys.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_03]: You guys figure it out, that kind of thing.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's a challenging schedule, especially a loaded up front as it is.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: And when you break it down, like, you know, look at last year, last year was back loaded this year, front loaded.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: That team responded to the challenge in front of them last year.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of those guys obviously are coming back.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: You throw them out there in November and say, OK, you got to win every game.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe you don't take that approach when November starts, right?
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: You take the approach of, we got to win this game.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: Then we got to win this game.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: One at a time, right?
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: One game at a time.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's the best way to do it.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: But can you start a season with that kind of mentality when everything's out in front of you?
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: And all the expectations are, you know, you play at OU.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: You're a sooner.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: Of course the expectations are high.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: Can you start the season with that mentality?
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: Not that you can't.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying you're probably ought to.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: Potential and why you came to owe you and what's your why is just go out one game at a time You survived that first part of that sit that that's schedule with two wins out of those three Maybe you get lucky and get three maybe you get a call somewhere maybe somebody gets hurt.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know But if you are able to navigate that first part of your schedule guys the second part of the schedule opens up
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: And you're looking at much more than eight wins.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: If, if you get through that first part of the schedule.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_03]: A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: try to steer the ship.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: We've got Jim Grove mentions on the July pod.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_03]: That means we're doing something good.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_03]: Whether he's going to be just like the premium version of that, I think that Michigan's going to be able to stop the run a little bit.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_03]: Georgia with Kirby, we know what he does defensively.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_03]: That Texas is like, I think the five games in the season, we're going to know
- 36:29[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, did Britbettables and Ben Arbuckle and Kevin Wilson, Oklahoma accomplish their goal of greatly changing what the sooner you can do on the ground.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_03]: It's not going to be like a nail-down, hey, there's only going to run for turn to yards after that or things like that every single game, but it's one of those seasons that I think we're going to have a pretty good idea of the
- 36:47[SPEAKER_03]: ceiling floor limitations the the the sky could be a little bit that kind of stuff just based off of not just that it's three big games but it's three big games against teams that are going to directly stress what Oklahoma really really wants to improve on what's kind of in their north star offensively the soxies Yeah, I think that's going to be fascinating to see because like you mentioned the matchups even if
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like you said, Michigan is in transition and I love Kyle Wittingham, but that, you know, we wonder how quickly he's going to be able to turn that and if it's just a, you know, placeholder situation.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: Things like that, but.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: there's things that these teams can do that, like you said, are going to test those improvements for OU, and we're going to find out really quickly about that offensive line and where it stands.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, a big part of it is just staying healthy during that stretch of games to give yourself a chance to feast on the back end of that schedule, as Hube was talking about.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: That offensive line I think is going to get tested.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to see how much those those young relatively young still offensive linemen for suci foj a Any peer lewe how much they've grown You know some of those those transfers how how they fit in John material his decision making and then the big one just Their ability to run the football and what does that look like now with not only that offensive line, but the the running backs that we've talked about
- 38:18[SPEAKER_02]: what the impact the deal of McCollah has.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's, I think, for us just from an interesting standpoint, I think it's about as good as it could be because of those factors and then if you're able to survive it, you open up a lot of other questions, storylines, possibilities for your team over the last month of the season.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: So it'll be an interesting start for sure.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'll add that to this favor, you're right about Whittington, new coach comes in, transition period.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: But when you transition from a coach who was disorganized and maybe didn't have his players attention, to detail and things like that, Kyle Whittingham is a notoriously detailed coach.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think the transition is going to be quick for Michigan.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think there are going to be a lot of players
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this is our coach now that that was our coach last year, you know, no disrespect to Sheryl Moore.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: I never thought he was great head coaching material.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: He kind of proved that out.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: But kind of waiting him comes in and he's like, guys, you're Michigan Wolverines.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: This is how we do things.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they're all, I think they're already bought in.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: If you listen to anything coming out of it and over, I think those guys are already bought in.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_03]: It was at least one aspect of our Michigan Post game pod that aged very, very well.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_03]: To talk it, didn't know if Shroud Moore was going to be around much line.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't think it was going to be that immediate and for those reasons, but I think you saw one like a team that really got it together.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think you're going to hear like the PR version, like we finally have an adult in charge in an arbor, which I think is going to be going from adult to adult, from like even the hard boss stuff, like an incredible college football coach, we just, you know what I mean?
- 40:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we're we're talking about burger gate and then all the things although I did appreciate one of the one of the great ways to ever service suspension by Voluntank for the chain gang we will always have hard on for that, but no it should be good I'm excited for
- 40:21[SPEAKER_03]: all of that though.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_03]: One of the last tenets of the summer here, not necessarily that like everything's going to be done by the end of the summer, but Oklahoma has continued to stay hot on the recruiting trail as well.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_03]: Carson will go here.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_03]: Where do you want to go?
- 40:32[SPEAKER_03]: You want to go defense or offense because in 2028, I know it's hard to like look that far into the future, but with Tray technically the area, the suitors certainly got going with their 2028 quarterback
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was really impressive and really surprising considering he was committed to Notre Dame for a grand total of six days, I believe it was.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: I actually talked to Tray tagly a fairy about him once ago.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: Just got his thoughts about his unofficial visit to OU.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: He said he loved the program, Help OU has a history of developing quarterbacks.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: He said he got to know Ben Arbuckle a little bit, met John Matier.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: really liked what they were doing.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I was a little surprised initially when he committed to Notre Dame after he was so high on his visit to Oklahoma, but evidently he still had a lot of those feelings about the Sooners and the program that they have.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_00]: A little surprised that it came that quickly after his decision to commit to Notre Dame, but it's a big win nonetheless for
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: Brent Venables, the staff, all of their recruiting efforts, kind of building on what they've been able to manage with this 2027 class, which we've talked time and time again about how remarkable that is so just an early win for the 2028 cycle.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's your, as well, as much as things have changed when it comes to like front office is being evolved stuff like that, you know what never hurts or a creating class to get a quarterback in early a guy that can be like the leader of the class a guy that can help their recruiting efforts, especially on the offensive side, but I don't know how much any of the early recruits I have to help on the defensive side of the logs are just like go talk to the head ball coach and you'll be fired up about that, but.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_03]: He's a guy too that if you just watch through some of his like how to stuff and things like that It's one of those guys that might not be the and this is not like a knockout might not be like the athlete or The kind of a guy that can go out there and and work outside the structure as much as some of the guys So Oklahoma has attracted here in the past, but he's someone that you look at it and it's like arm strength ability to make every throw it's kind of like gay a return to kind of the prototype to a certain extent
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it is.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: College football changed so much that you almost won at least a little bit of a dual threat capability.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: Whenever you get a quarter back, but when you look at this, kids tape, I mean, the arm talent is as good as you can want from a rising high school junior.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, his footage is very, very impressive.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: Even compared to some of the other players that have earned offers a quarter back from the 20, 28 class from the sooner or so.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: If you're not going to have those dual threat capabilities, you better have some then go to arm shrink than he has just that.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: So really impressive stuff for him.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_03]: The John in this 28 was brief as we immediately veered back in the 27 lane, Oakma grabbed 27 athlete aka safety.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_03]: Jade and field as far as that goes.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_03]: Oakma must hold out some people around the Texas area to make this thing happen, Carson.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_03]: What did they get in Mr. Fields as he committed?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, great last name, by the way.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: Just an ass at it.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, he's a fantastic player.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: Only a consensus three star.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: But I think this is one of those players that we might look at as kind of a hidden gym in this class.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: You see a lot of the other big programs from Texas were after him, including A&M, TCU, SMU.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: So even though we doesn't have the blue chip rating next to his name, it's clear that a lot of people think highly of him.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: His stats at Hoto High School just outside the Austin area.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: really really good stuff.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_00]: I actually wrote about him story published about two hours ago about players who could have really big senior seasons kind of under the radar guys and he is one of them.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: Video game numbers as a junior for the hippos.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to put up even better numbers.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of I mean a lot of these three star players have something to prove it seems like
- 44:26[SPEAKER_00]: like yeah I should have been higher I should have been a four I should have been a five I should have been this and he's one of those guys in my mind that is a little bit undervalued his tapes really good put up really big numbers as I said so I think he's gonna have a really big senior season at Hoto kind of segue into his college career
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: And it kind of puts a, like when you come back to the team right now, close and out basically the last stages of like the summer workouts things that we had talked about that summer workouts and it's been tweaked slightly and Kevin Wilson talked about this when he was on the real break down as far as like it used to just be straight up.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, we hand them off to Schmitty and hope that when they come back there healthy, but also stronger.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_03]: Now it's a little bit of hey, you can get some OTA style stuff and he was pretty confident that you can improve this passing game throughout the summer.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_03]: So, excited to kind of get into the early stages of fall camp.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_03]: So like, you know, a little under a month away, just to kind of get the the checking on how much progress do you really think you made?
- 45:24[SPEAKER_03]: But, uh, John, I think that
- 45:27[SPEAKER_03]: people are gonna probably be tired of everyone sound like a brook racer but it almost feels like the most important thing is you hurdle toward fall campus gonna be can this group just get the best people on the field against Michigan healthy and not have to do the hey you know that the UTEP and New Mexico Games they're having to hold guys out because feels like the offensive line has been unable to get through fall camp healthy this last couple of years you've had like I've ever last year he ended up
- 45:53[SPEAKER_03]: played really low once he got back to the lineup, but we were waiting on Eli.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_03]: But I wanted to get back into the mix as far as that go.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's just about, hey, how is that big and a balance?
- 46:02[SPEAKER_03]: The physicality that Brett Vittables wants to bring every day while also making sure that you can't afford to have guys in and out the first five games to go around.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I apologize.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have the names in front of me and things like that.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: Remember the guy that they hired from the Saints to be their athletic athletic training coordinator for football, he's off to the NFL back to the NFL.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's gone.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: So you're looking at, you know, some some ideas some thoughts that came into the athletic training department that are now.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_01]: you know, I don't know if you reset that or if you take what he brought for a short time and continue that.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: But that's part of it is the training, the off season, you know, the physical the demand that goes on to your body.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: All that stuff that happens in a very busy off-season.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: Guys got to take care of their bodies.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: And they need to respond to...
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: When there's an injury or whatever, they need to get in there and get treatment.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_01]: They need to follow a very strict schedule.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: So if there's a transition period with that particular part of the team right now,
- 47:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's not ideal, but at some point, you just cross your fingers and say, hey, it's football.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: We got to do it.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: Well, those guys still played.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: They were not hard enough to have to sit out.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: They still played.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: That team was able to stay together to help the winning national championship.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_01]: There has been injury situations with every OU team that has competed with a national title ever since then.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: O4, O8, you know, on down the line, the teams that made the playoffs.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: Somewhere, somebody key was injured and that set the team back.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, you,
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: at some point you're all the dice and just say, let's hope this works, but I think that I think they'll be prepared.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think there'll be healthy one camp starts and that's half the battle is just getting to the getting to the starting line.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_03]: That was something grass that had headed back to the NFL ranks there for Oklahoma and Abraham.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_03]: This is part of where, on one hand,
- 48:24[SPEAKER_03]: It's not like once you get to fall camp, this is not the moment where Kip Lewis is going to be standing off to the side like we almost saw him always off to the side not because he was hurt but because it's like, there's Kip Lewis need to go through another spring practice especially when you're developing depth of line background.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_03]: But this is where I do wonder if a lot of the position battles being
- 48:41[SPEAKER_03]: mostly reserves figuring out what is the full two deep look like as opposed to the first eleven that's going to be out of it.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_03]: I wonder if that can maybe not con would keep Oklahoma a little bit fresher through fall camp and have less of those guys being held out.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_03]: But also,
- 48:58[SPEAKER_03]: a number of those like who have mentioned that was like offseason injuries that were being carried in whereas as you know Brent has kind of talked a little bit and we'll get the full run down in Tampa.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_03]: It sounds like just about everybody that is expected to do back up and firing has been back up and firing for this crucial crucial summer workout period which is the last really transformational time for everybody's vibes before it just becomes how do you manage to stay as fresh as you can through a grueling grueling SEC slate.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think, obviously, the injury update is one of the most interesting portions of things from media data, just because Brent Vennables has generally been pretty good about talking about that stuff at least on the surface level.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_02]: uh... to at least give us an update on on guys were available uh... things like that and yet if they're able to to remain healthy you know knock on some wood uh... here over the next couple weeks i think they are going to be in and good position not that like you said it's not like it was going to be sitting on the sidelines it's not like you know david stone and jay and jackson aren't going to be getting their work in but
- 50:05[SPEAKER_02]: with the way that things are structured right now with the position battles that you know we feel pretty good about being settled and a lot of those questions being about who's going to be the second guy who's going to be the third guy and not who's going to be the first guy.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think it will be easier to balance things out.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think one of the biggest keys to me.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_02]: is being able to stay healthy.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think you can't remember which one of y'all mentioned it, but stay healthy on the offensive line and get keep that group together because we've seen when Bill Beanboge groups are able to just roll out the same five guys.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_02]: Week in and week out that's generally when they've been, you know, really
- 50:46[SPEAKER_02]: uh... really good and they haven't been able to do that uh... for quite a while so those guys are healthy i think going into the spring or into the preseason camp uh... i think that's gonna be a really good sign for how the rest of the pieces sort uh... fit in line uh... elsewhere around the team but especially on the offense
- 51:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you just hope this doesn't have to be on those tinker years for Bill Bean bow where it five games in it's a different lineup and all that stuff.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_03]: So it'll be the ACC up next week over in Charlotte, which I'm sure should be its own fiesta, no pressure ACC, but you have to also announce a crappy league wide marketing to otherwise if you're not announcing a crappy monster energy deal,
- 51:29[SPEAKER_03]: what are we even doing and that.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, I'll just throw out my daughter wouldn't mind if we were sponsored by like Alani.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I knew I was missing one that it's become, it's not even like a holy trade between Red Bull monster, Alani, Celsius, ghosts, which I don't know if it's the most popular as far as like widespread, but ghosts would be the most popular, like just like a Pac-Man style ghost on everyone's uniform.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think that would be pretty uh,
- 51:57[SPEAKER_03]: good as far as that goes.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_03]: But we will see there elsewhere, it's pretty quiet, right?
- 52:02[SPEAKER_03]: Because coral season is winding down for everybody, everyone's kind of working into summer workouts for men's women's basketball.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_03]: The big thing on the dock at this week, and though, will be MLB draft gets underway, which obviously will be a really, really important piece of carsten kind of shaping the second half of the Oklahoma baseball's off season, just because
- 52:23[SPEAKER_03]: uh... as we know there are a bunch of guys i think turned some heads especially is this team heated up and really showed what they're made of it just be related to see where everybody lands and it won't be an instantaneous thanks then it'll be the days and weeks after that i've like who decides to go decide to slot it inside those heels versus who wants to come back for uh... one more year and see if they can't try to recapture some of the magic that will call my capture all throughout the month of june
- 52:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's, I mean, obviously you want to win the national championship, that's the best case result for OU baseball, but I think a site negative consequences a lot more of those players are getting draft buzz now probably will accept their deals signed with whatever MLB team drafts them.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson Willets was probably going to be drafted pretty high regardless of what happened in the postseason, so it's pretty likely that he will move on to the professional ranks.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: Dayton with chance for that matter, maybe Ethan L. Chamber Curious might be more likely now to sign with MLB teams than they would have been say a month, two months ago.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: But that's just the product of playing really, really good baseball when it mattered as far as college baseball goes.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there aren't going to be a fair share of players from this magical OU baseball team that of course won at the national title in Omaha.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_00]: That will sign professional deals and that could mean that next year's a little bit more dry.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_00]: They have to get a little bit more creative.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_00]: They have had some really good portal pickups, whether that's Jay Abernathy from Tennessee, Carson Brumball from Arkansas.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: So believe me, they've done some really good work through the portal, but there are going to be a lot of pieces to fill regardless of how many players decide to sign with their MLB teams when they're drafted.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_03]: and skip is no stranger to replace the bunch of pieces through the draft.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_03]: That's part of the like upside of how to guy like ship shots and a player's drafted downside, a lot of players get drafted and get to go.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_03]: But as we've mentioned, the most important part is three games you don't have to worry about, uh, cord obviously signed back as did Zander and, uh, Mr. was asking who I enjoyed.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_03]: I think, uh, both getting their shine as his brother was one of the representatives for Oklahoma State at a big 12 media day.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_03]: So,
- 54:36[SPEAKER_03]: a fun couple of weeks without spans two months for the fam there.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_03]: But otherwise, we can keep it pretty brief today as we're about two weeks away from the full ramp up in.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_03]: Be sure you lock it with us next week.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_03]: We'll be back to Wednesday, assuming no more trees, take out fences in my parents' yard.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_03]: That is a big knock on wood situation.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_03]: We do not want that as I'll tell you what guys, chain sawing it, two people in the afternoon because you have to get that stuff done.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_03]: the state of Oklahoma for sure.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_03]: But we'll be back next Wednesday, previewed everything SEC media days, the suitors get going on Monday.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_03]: They will bat lead off out there and Tampa.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_03]: But big thank you as always to Mr. Aver de Carson and to who for hanging out.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_03]: Be sure your head to the website, Oklahoma suitors on SI.com.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_03]: Both Carson Carson just took the hey, there's a lot of excitement, but what's the one thing Oklahoma has to avoid each position group.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_03]: That was a really good series that was run on the website.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_03]: Oklahoma suitors on s i dot com.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_03]: Abrers got hey Oklahoma's going to be fully funded across the board is a full fledg member of the SEC.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_03]: What could that mean for.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_03]: The major programs on campus.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_03]: He's got that as well.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_03]: I know that the great bready triathletes just track down Nate Hibble with a big series coming out with a bunch of stuff that they covered is looking back, looking around the fam, all that stuff.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_03]: So that's coming to the website, open the series on SI.com.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_03]: So be sure you're locked in there as always.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_03]: From the podcast, we'll be back next Wednesday.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_03]: Hope everyone has a good, safe week.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_03]: Stay cool out there.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_03]: I'll talk to you next week.
