- 0:07Speaker 1: It's podcast, Phil. What do you say we pull the
- 0:13Speaker 1: old uh starter chord on this bad boy?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Uh?
- 0:21Speaker 3: That was if it didn't work, But it's working.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We're recording right now. I wanted to start before I
- 0:27Speaker 1: said that, Okay, I was waiting for the music to play,
- 0:35Speaker 1: though I had that in post. Yeah, I know, I know.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Off should we start to?
- 0:40Speaker 4: Should I play the theme live?
- 0:42Speaker 1: And I think it'd be a nice touch. But this
- 0:46Speaker 1: is a good entry This is a good entry point.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Welcome to Meet Eatter Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:51Speaker 1: conservation always wins. I'm your guest host Randall Williams. Today
- 0:56Speaker 1: I'm joined by Cal the Birthday Spencer not Birthday, Hillary,
- 1:04Speaker 1: not Birthday, Logan Roman and the Big Dog Nate Mason. Wow.
- 1:10Speaker 1: There's a ten round quiz show with questions from meat
- 1:12Speaker 1: eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
- 1:16Speaker 1: There is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred
- 1:19Speaker 1: dollars to the conservation organization of the winners choosing. Here's
- 1:24Speaker 1: our Infrequently Asked Questions segment. If you have a Trivia
- 1:27Speaker 1: related question for our crew, send it to Trivia at
- 1:30Speaker 1: the meadeater dot com with the subject line IFAQ. Today's
- 1:34Speaker 1: IFAQ is from Nick Halverson, longtime listener, first time caller.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I wanted to address some members of the team and
- 1:41Speaker 1: quote give them their flowers if you will. This is
- 1:44Speaker 1: in response to episode seven to nineteen of Radio Live
- 1:47Speaker 1: where I heard a lot of shade being thrown at
- 1:49Speaker 1: Doctor Randall from some listeners. Doctor Randall has become one
- 1:53Speaker 1: of my favorites to listen to. He is very smart,
- 1:57Speaker 1: sometimes times articulate, which was a nice qualification, and often
- 2:04Speaker 1: very funny. His quick, dry and dark sense of humor
- 2:07Speaker 1: is an excellent addition to the show, along with Phil
- 2:10Speaker 1: the engineer, who could be the funniest, most interesting member
- 2:13Speaker 1: of the whole crew.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Yeah wow, I like this Nick.
- 2:16Speaker 1: I especially enjoyed episode seven thirteen of Radio Live, which
- 2:20Speaker 1: has to be one of the most hilarious and creative
- 2:22Speaker 1: episodes that you guys have done. Yet more excuse me,
- 2:25Speaker 1: more like that please? My favorite hunting podcast is becoming
- 2:29Speaker 1: my favorite comedy podcast. Color me entertained all that to
- 2:35Speaker 1: say more Phil, more Doctor Randall, and more Spencer. I
- 2:38Speaker 1: don't know why he included you, Yeah for him?
- 2:42Speaker 2: Did you tell this guy that coloring people's kind of
- 2:44Speaker 2: out of Vogue these days.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I that that's Edgy. I think it's his favorite cop Spencer.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I think he included you so that you would read
- 2:56Speaker 1: this email. Thank you great work on all the shows.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You guys are doing the Lord's work. Sincerely, Nick Halverson.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Thank you, Nick. Everybody here at the table appreciates your comments.
- 3:09Speaker 5: That's a good question.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I need to look up episode seven thirteen of Radio Live.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I didn't apparently you were on fire.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I meant to do that.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I would imagine that was the hundreds of Beavers episode,
- 3:19Speaker 5: but I do not know.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that was very funny, especially at the bit about
- 3:22Speaker 1: hundreds of beavers.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Did you guys do the Idaho beaver drop deal? Is
- 3:26Speaker 2: that what you're covering? No?
- 3:27Speaker 1: No, I uh, it's hard to expect. Weird conceptual.
- 3:32Speaker 5: It has nothing to do with it, And there's.
- 3:33Speaker 1: A very conceptual comedic bit in the middle of it.
- 3:36Speaker 1: That was a two part play between me and film.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I was every They rehashed the Idaho Beaver Drop every
- 3:44Speaker 2: year a couple of years, and people love it, like.
- 3:48Speaker 5: I'm going to rehash it at some point.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, we careful, Yeah, but it's amazing, like that was
- 3:52Speaker 2: done like nineteen forty nine.
- 3:55Speaker 5: Long time ago.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Uh, for the record, I'll point out that I did
- 3:59Speaker 1: not select this email. Spencer selected this email, and Spencer
- 4:04Speaker 1: thought it would be funny if I read it.
- 4:06Speaker 4: I agreed.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I agreed to read it, and it's fun reading it aloud. Actually,
- 4:12Speaker 1: it's more meaningful than when you just look at your
- 4:15Speaker 1: on your phone briefly on the couch. Now for housekeeping today,
- 4:19Speaker 1: let's address that I am losing one of my all
- 4:22Speaker 1: time favorite trivia competitors, Ryan cal Callahan. No, he's not dying,
- 4:29Speaker 1: he's just taking a new job. Cal Why don't you
- 4:32Speaker 1: tell folks what's next.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I can't participate in trivia. We have guests all the time, Spencer.
- 4:38Speaker 5: Actually you can chill up, Spencer.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Spencer wrote that too.
- 4:41Speaker 6: I wonder who it donate to.
- 4:43Speaker 5: I was saving myself the rejection, you know, going forward,
- 4:46Speaker 5: I assumed you know, oh, this couldn't fit in the calendar.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Is not fun at all. But yeah, incoming CEO at BHA,
- 4:54Speaker 2: So January first, I'm gonna start CEO gig, which is
- 5:00Speaker 2: an acronym.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You're gonna be a suit.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Well, I've I've I quit wearing ties in DC quite
- 5:07Speaker 2: a while ago because I just it takes me. I
- 5:09Speaker 2: got to relearn the YouTube video every time.
- 5:11Speaker 1: We tied our ties together with YouTube that well, yeah,
- 5:14Speaker 1: that's right, that's fun.
- 5:15Speaker 5: My wife asked me over Halloween should a costume that
- 5:19Speaker 5: involved a tie? How to tie a tie? And I said,
- 5:22Speaker 5: just go to YouTube. There's the one video that this
- 5:24Speaker 5: guy did it first on YouTube and now.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Nice little background music years old.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Has watched that video that was a millionaire.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, he's got to be multiple times.
- 5:33Speaker 5: It's not even a good video. He was just the
- 5:35Speaker 5: guy to do it at one point, and then it
- 5:37Speaker 5: became the video that everyone watches the day of a leg.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Has anybody made a shoe tying video yet?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah? Man, I'm I'm super stoked. Public lands, waters and
- 5:48Speaker 2: wildlife big big part of my life, and I'm very
- 5:52Speaker 2: excited to ensure any way I cam to uh make
- 5:58Speaker 2: sure that people stand up for those things and the
- 6:01Speaker 2: proper management of those things and then continue to access
- 6:04Speaker 2: to those things ideally expanded opportunities out there, because yeah, man,
- 6:12Speaker 2: I think that right now, there's definitely we're being force
- 6:17Speaker 2: fed a bunch of bs on how these places don't
- 6:19Speaker 2: have value where they could be better served in a
- 6:22Speaker 2: certain way and something I'm reminded of all the time,
- 6:27Speaker 2: just like driving around the home state here is I
- 6:31Speaker 2: feel like we're just really being force fed this idea
- 6:34Speaker 2: that people don't get along and can't come to terms
- 6:36Speaker 2: on this stuff. I talk to people I disagree with
- 6:40Speaker 2: all the time, and it's always a good conversation. So
- 6:44Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of positive work to be
- 6:48Speaker 2: done on building big coalitions of groups that all these
- 6:54Speaker 2: people tell us can't get along. And I just think
- 6:57Speaker 2: that's a bunch of crap.
- 7:00Speaker 1: As a follow up, who are you going to miss
- 7:01Speaker 1: the most as a trivia competitor?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Well, you guys do nothing but produce media. How could
- 7:09Speaker 2: I ever miss someone?
- 7:11Speaker 3: You know, be in my ears already saying you guys,
- 7:14Speaker 3: good politician, you people politician.
- 7:19Speaker 6: No.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Plus, I'm gonna be participating a bunch over here. I
- 7:23Speaker 2: maintain the podcast and and jump in on some some
- 7:26Speaker 2: projects here and there.
- 7:27Speaker 5: So are you still going to share an office with Randall?
- 7:30Speaker 4: Rander?
- 7:30Speaker 5: Are you going to keep his seat?
- 7:31Speaker 2: I was gonna say, I guarantee nobody remembers to turn
- 7:34Speaker 2: off my keyfob. Okay, it's like anytime I need to
- 7:39Speaker 2: use a copy machine, you got anytime mail in the
- 7:43Speaker 2: office today and any anytime I need pens stuff like that. Yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 2: sausage stuff.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I am thinking about making a commercial kitchen. Cal's workspace
- 7:52Speaker 1: just sort of a communal sitting area where we can
- 7:55Speaker 1: air our grievances with the next great film idea. Okay,
- 8:00Speaker 1: now the cydny and Expert today is a four, so
- 8:02Speaker 1: our winner should get eight correct answers, and with that
- 8:06Speaker 1: we're onto the game. At trivia play the drop Phil
- 8:09Speaker 1: didn't say, please.
- 8:11Speaker 5: Look, I need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 8:16Speaker 1: How's that? Just tend to win everything?
- 8:25Speaker 2: Demon suckers.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Question one in the category of cooking, according to the CDC,
- 8:34Speaker 1: which pathogen is the leading cause of hospitalization due to
- 8:37Speaker 1: food borne illness in the United States, salmoni is Your
- 8:43Speaker 1: options are salmonilla E coli, neurovirus or botulinum WHOA good question,
- 8:54Speaker 1: m Man, according to the CDC, which pathogen is the
- 9:00Speaker 1: leading cause of hospitalization due to food born illness in
- 9:03Speaker 1: the United States. Again, your choices are salmonilla E. Coli,
- 9:10Speaker 1: neurovirus or botul in.
- 9:12Speaker 5: Them Randall, you said you were coming up with questions
- 9:15Speaker 5: at deer camp with your buddies. Did you credit them
- 9:17Speaker 5: for any questions in the script.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Uh no, ill, I will do that though.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Did they come up with any Oh?
- 9:25Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I pulled probably five or six of these off my phone, man, hyeah,
- 9:29Speaker 1: including the one that I had to cut.
- 9:31Speaker 5: So this is good question.
- 9:34Speaker 2: It's always better start things off on the right foot. Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 2: with the check and the old got it column? But
- 9:41Speaker 2: I'm torn.
- 9:43Speaker 7: Torn?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Is anybody thinking here anybody had one of these? I have?
- 9:49Speaker 2: Well, that's what what makes me torn is half the
- 9:51Speaker 2: freaking office got tapped out last year with one of these.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But did they go to the hospital and does the
- 9:58Speaker 2: CDC say it's a food born illness?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Okay? Interesting? Interesting?
- 10:05Speaker 2: And who goes to the hospital?
- 10:07Speaker 6: Old people, A lot of people who want to die.
- 10:10Speaker 5: Yeah, Hilary when she's breaking bones.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been to the hospital.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Larry's a frequent fire at the hospital. Just the earth
- 10:19Speaker 2: peake surgeon.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Of do we have do I have? Answers? A gang
- 10:23Speaker 1: slip them over? Roman says e Coli, Hillary says salmonilla,
- 10:29Speaker 1: Spencer says salmonilla, Logan says e Coli, Nate says salmonilla,
- 10:35Speaker 1: Cow says e Coli. Oh geez, guys, the answer is
- 10:41Speaker 1: neurovirus that was the other one. According to CDC data,
- 10:48Speaker 1: there are nine point nine million cases of domestically acquired
- 10:51Speaker 1: food borne illness in the United States, resulting in fifty
- 10:54Speaker 1: three thousand hospitalizations in nine hundred and thirty one deaths.
- 10:58Speaker 1: While salmonila was the leading cause of death in these cases,
- 11:01Speaker 1: neurovirus was responsible for more than half of all cases
- 11:04Speaker 1: overall and nearly half of all hospitalizations. Symptoms of neurovirus
- 11:09Speaker 1: include nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, diarrhea, headaches, diarrhea,
- 11:14Speaker 1: and muscle aches and diarrhea.
- 11:17Speaker 2: But it's still just not as sexy as e col No.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Dude, I got I got nor virus coming home from
- 11:23Speaker 6: Western Hunt and it was the worst plane ride of
- 11:26Speaker 6: my life.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Is there a specific not just getting from.
- 11:29Speaker 6: I had a bison steak the night before, so maybe
- 11:31Speaker 6: that one.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I got it from a bagged salad one time.
- 11:35Speaker 5: I think I feel like that's every food born.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And.
- 11:40Speaker 1: We haven't been back to bagged salads, which is a
- 11:42Speaker 1: real shame for the produce folks at Costcover.
- 11:46Speaker 2: That's the sad truth of the trade show circuit. Is
- 11:50Speaker 2: like the whole time, you're like, I want to be healthy,
- 11:52Speaker 2: I need to get a salad. But then you're like,
- 11:55Speaker 2: that salad will kill you. Get something deepfat fried, just
- 11:58Speaker 2: muscle thrill.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Salad has to fend off the shots. He'll flew.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Our next question, that's question two for those of you
- 12:07Speaker 1: following along. Comes to us in the category of hunting.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Rank the following from densest to least dents lead tungsten,
- 12:17Speaker 1: steel and bismuth.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Rank the following from densest to least dents lead tungsten, steele, bismuth.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And you can just use the first letter of each word,
- 12:35Speaker 1: which will make it easier for me to read your answers.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Rank the following from densest to least dnse lead tungsten,
- 12:47Speaker 1: steel and bismuth. Folks are working hard here. It's mass
- 13:01Speaker 1: that's the list. You got your answer, calh.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty good. I mean, you can't feel good after
- 13:09Speaker 2: missing the first answer.
- 13:11Speaker 1: No, but everybody missed it, so you're all still on
- 13:13Speaker 1: the same page. Let's just consider this the first question.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Didn't you get that one?
- 13:17Speaker 1: Right? She did? She also partook in that bagged Caesar.
- 13:23Speaker 1: It hit me first. There was there was a night
- 13:26Speaker 1: of me. She probably got it from me cleaning up
- 13:30Speaker 1: the bathroom after me.
- 13:32Speaker 2: You're like, well, I gotta go to work.
- 13:34Speaker 1: No, No, I did not go to work for like
- 13:36Speaker 1: three days. Uh yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Was this the Costco bag, Caesar?
- 13:42Speaker 1: It was? It was.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I know, I kind of like feel like a standby
- 13:45Speaker 3: for us when we need just something to throw.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I think, I mean, they were they they're batting a
- 13:50Speaker 1: pretty high percentage.
- 13:51Speaker 5: Phil, did you get her doctor? Uh no, no, so
- 13:55Speaker 5: it was never reported. You might have just, let you know,
- 13:58Speaker 5: millions of other people.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's one case that throws off the CDC data.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Looks like we all have answers. Gang flip over those boards.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Roman says bismuth tungsten lead steal, Hillary says bismuth lead,
- 14:13Speaker 1: tungsten steel, Spencer says tungsten, bismuth steel lead, Logan says
- 14:20Speaker 1: tungsten steel, bismuth lead. Nate says lead, tungsten, bismuth steel.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Kala says lead, tungsten, bismuth steel. Phil, I don't know
- 14:32Speaker 1: if you're falling along, but I'm fairly certain that that's
- 14:35Speaker 1: another zero percentage. The correct answer is tungsten, lead, bismuth
- 14:42Speaker 1: and steel. Yeah, lead has long been used, and I
- 14:47Speaker 1: have the grams per cube centimeter, but I don't think
- 14:50Speaker 1: that's very interesting, nor is it easy to read. Lead
- 14:53Speaker 1: has long been used as the gold standard for fire
- 14:56Speaker 1: and projectiles, but it is illegal to use lead shot
- 14:58Speaker 1: for waterfowl hunting due to its toxicity. Steel is the
- 15:02Speaker 1: most common non toxic alternative, but it is less dense
- 15:05Speaker 1: than leads, so typically hunters will choose a larger shot
- 15:08Speaker 1: size to maintain energy. Bismuth is closer to leads density
- 15:12Speaker 1: than steel, but it is more expensive. Tungsten is the densest,
- 15:17Speaker 1: but again its cost is a significant factor.
- 15:21Speaker 5: The pheasant hunters, the old guys where I grew up
- 15:24Speaker 5: in South Dakota, if you hunt public land, you have
- 15:26Speaker 5: to use steel. If you hunt private to your choice,
- 15:29Speaker 5: non toxic, right, non toxic. Yeah, the common choice was
- 15:32Speaker 5: always steel, but dudes would complain, usually old men, that
- 15:37Speaker 5: the steel flew too slow for them. Mm, so that's
- 15:40Speaker 5: why you weren't getting any birds.
- 15:41Speaker 2: It significantly drops off the table. Yeah, out there at thirty.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yards something like something like that.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Yeah, Bismuth's hot commodity right now.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Chinese getting us, especially at nine point eight grams per
- 15:56Speaker 1: cubic centimeter tungsten almost has twice the day nity of lead. Fascinating.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Question three Natural history. What eleven letter word refers to
- 16:10Speaker 1: the geological time period that ended eleven thousand years ago
- 16:14Speaker 1: characterized by the presence of large land mammals and birds,
- 16:18Speaker 1: as well as extensive ice sheets and glaciers in North America?
- 16:26Speaker 1: What eleven letter word refers to the geological time period
- 16:30Speaker 1: that ended eleven thousand years ago, characterized by the presence
- 16:34Speaker 1: of large land mammals and birds, as well as extensive
- 16:38Speaker 1: ice sheets and glaciers North America. Hillary's got an answer,
- 16:43Speaker 1: way quick, Nate's got an answer, Spencer's got an answer,
- 16:46Speaker 1: especially for eleven letters.
- 16:48Speaker 6: I got eleven letters.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Cow's got an answer. Wait, wait, Roman's got a blank board.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Logan's tapping his board and looking at me.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I was just off, and we've got where you can
- 17:02Speaker 2: see chinosaur prints on Sam's anelo punt. I found this
- 17:11Speaker 2: like big mud spire that was solid, uh fossils. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:24Speaker 2: I was like, it's so illegal, but I just want
- 17:27Speaker 2: to destroy this whole thing. But I'm pretty sure they were.
- 17:31Speaker 2: They had to be like bison antiquis is kind of
- 17:33Speaker 2: what my guess it was amazing.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Dude, that petrified wood I sent you. The landowner wanted it.
- 17:41Speaker 6: I know, I know it was the right thing to do, but.
- 17:46Speaker 5: But I I feel like that's a rare occasion where
- 17:49Speaker 5: the land over.
- 17:50Speaker 6: The worst part is he's like, oh, I'm really interested
- 17:53Speaker 6: in rocks.
- 17:53Speaker 5: Nate found some great petrified Dude.
- 17:55Speaker 6: It stands up. It is a perfect built bookend. It
- 17:59Speaker 6: stands up. It's amazing. Anyways, It's like, I really love rocks.
- 18:02Speaker 6: It's like, all right, hey, dude, your property, do whatever
- 18:04Speaker 6: you want.
- 18:05Speaker 1: He takes it from me.
- 18:06Speaker 6: He's like, let me show you my other ones I got.
- 18:07Speaker 8: Oh tosses it by the side of his like next
- 18:10Speaker 8: to his hose, like just on the side of his house.
- 18:13Speaker 8: He's got a chunk this big that looks like some
- 18:17Speaker 8: dinosaur a billion years ago, split it for firewood.
- 18:20Speaker 4: It looks like firewood.
- 18:21Speaker 6: And then he's got another chunk even bigger than his
- 18:23Speaker 6: buddy found and gave to him.
- 18:24Speaker 4: It hurt my soul.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Logan, do you have an answer? Roman? Nothing, you're gonna
- 18:29Speaker 1: come up with an answer.
- 18:31Speaker 6: How much time do we have?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Would you like to just take a few seconds and
- 18:35Speaker 1: I'm still reading for him?
- 18:36Speaker 6: Yes, Hangman comments that's someone made recently.
- 18:39Speaker 4: So no, nope, I'll just take it.
- 18:41Speaker 1: All right, Kang. Sorry, I used the word gang again.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And you know, the the YouTube comments don't like it.
- 18:48Speaker 1: They think it's a bad word to use.
- 18:50Speaker 4: The gang.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Yeah, he says it too much, gang and team. In
- 18:54Speaker 1: any event, Roman doesn't have an answer. Hillary has paleolithic,
- 18:59Speaker 1: Spencer has pre Cambrian, Logan has paleolithic, Nate has paleolithic,
- 19:04Speaker 1: and Cal has. Plice to scene is not. The correct
- 19:08Speaker 1: answer is plicce to scene. Wow. It's one of Stephen
- 19:13Speaker 1: Stephen L's favorite words. The place to See epoch, spanning
- 19:17Speaker 1: from two point six million to eleven seven hundred years ago,
- 19:20Speaker 1: was characterized by repeated glaciations across much of North America
- 19:24Speaker 1: and Eurasia. This geological period saw the evolution of many
- 19:28Speaker 1: modern mammal species, including early humans, alongside iconic megafauna like
- 19:32Speaker 1: wooly mammoths, sabertooth cats, and giant groundslaws. That's that's h
- 19:37Speaker 1: place to see in the ice Age, I like to
- 19:39Speaker 1: call that the ice age. I thought that was going
- 19:41Speaker 1: to be a I thought that was gonna be a
- 19:44Speaker 1: higher percentage.
- 19:46Speaker 7: Room.
- 19:52Speaker 1: The Sydney Index actually is is pretty it's pretty competitive car.
- 19:57Speaker 5: And see where she wants to donate that much.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I got a couple, I got a couple gimmes coming up.
- 20:01Speaker 2: So that would be a fun twist that great.
- 20:04Speaker 6: Or call her for overtime.
- 20:05Speaker 4: So that's so.
- 20:06Speaker 1: We have six contestants so far, I've offered eight eighteen answers,
- 20:10Speaker 1: and one of them has been correct.
- 20:12Speaker 4: That's true.
- 20:12Speaker 1: This is a smashing success.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Gang gang, Come on, people are right.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I know if you've just ever if you are a
- 20:20Speaker 3: person who's ever complained about Randall saying gang or team,
- 20:23Speaker 3: I want you to just stop listening to the meat
- 20:26Speaker 3: eater content.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I just think it's funny till that's the CEO.
- 20:29Speaker 4: I don't care.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I think it's they're very inclusive terms. Yeah, we're all
- 20:34Speaker 2: in it together, folks.
- 20:37Speaker 5: It's not going to bother Randall at all.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Yeah, nope, folks. Question number four comes to us in
- 20:44Speaker 1: the category of woodsmanship. How many gunshots or blows of
- 20:49Speaker 1: a whistle constitutes the international distress signal? How many gunshots
- 20:58Speaker 1: or blows of a whistle? Hmm, I guess it should
- 21:03Speaker 1: be constitute the International distress signal. Peel, if we ever
- 21:09Speaker 1: do this again, we should cut that.
- 21:12Speaker 8: S h.
- 21:13Speaker 4: You know what, I can change it live. You want
- 21:14Speaker 4: to see this?
- 21:15Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, that's much better. Thoughts got bigger too, get it.
- 21:23Speaker 1: That's much better. It looks like most folks have an
- 21:25Speaker 1: answer logan you're ready, flip them over. Team Roman says three,
- 21:32Speaker 1: Lariy says five, Spencer says three, Logan three, Nate three,
- 21:36Speaker 1: and Cal three. The correct answer is three. Three whistles
- 21:41Speaker 1: or gunshots in succession has become widely recognized as an
- 21:44Speaker 1: international distress signal in wilderness and outdoor settings, allowing people
- 21:48Speaker 1: to communicate that they need urgent help even when visibility
- 21:52Speaker 1: is poor or across long distances. The universal signals taught
- 21:56Speaker 1: in wilderness survival courses worldwide and is distinctive enough to
- 21:59Speaker 1: be recognized as intentional rather than environmental noise, though in
- 22:03Speaker 1: modern times it's often supplemented by other emergency signals like mirrors, flares,
- 22:07Speaker 1: and satellite communicators.
- 22:09Speaker 5: I think there's a guy in Oregon right now missing
- 22:11Speaker 5: they're looking for, and they heard his three shots or
- 22:14Speaker 5: they heard gunshots. I assume it was three, which is
- 22:17Speaker 5: kind of scary.
- 22:18Speaker 6: That.
- 22:18Speaker 5: Yeah, like they know he's out there and he wants
- 22:20Speaker 5: to be found and they haven't found him.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Well, that's Dave.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Oh really, whoa.
- 22:31Speaker 4: Go back crazy?
- 22:33Speaker 2: That's a that's a bummer. That dude in California spent
- 22:36Speaker 2: three weeks in his track. Did you guys read that
- 22:39Speaker 2: one snowstorm? Yeah, snowstorm, and you know it was like
- 22:45Speaker 2: the three hour tour scenario, and it was like, Okay,
- 22:48Speaker 2: I gotta stay here. And then eventually and he knew
- 22:55Speaker 2: the like the hunting calendar of like when the next
- 22:58Speaker 2: opener was and stuff, and so he's like, I have
- 23:01Speaker 2: got to hike out at this point or else nobody's
- 23:03Speaker 2: going to be up here.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty interesting.
- 23:07Speaker 1: On to question five, which comes to us in the
- 23:11Speaker 1: category of plants and stuff. This type of grass can
- 23:15Speaker 1: only be spread by seating or new shoots from the
- 23:19Speaker 1: base of an existing plant, which results in the tufts
- 23:22Speaker 1: or clumps of growth that give it its name. This
- 23:28Speaker 1: type of grass can only be spread by seating or
- 23:31Speaker 1: new shoots from the base of an existing plant, which
- 23:34Speaker 1: results in the tufts or clumps of growth that give
- 23:37Speaker 1: it its name. Cal's got an answer.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I do have an answer.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Feel good about it.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought it was something else, but then I
- 23:48Speaker 2: had to listen to the rest of your voice. Then
- 23:53Speaker 2: I changed my answer.
- 23:54Speaker 1: There are actually two acceptable answers, only one of which
- 23:59Speaker 1: is related to the final clue in this question. But
- 24:03Speaker 1: hang on, hang on, I'll tell you all about that
- 24:06Speaker 1: in a little bit here. Nate's got an answer.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I have a word.
- 24:10Speaker 1: Hillary's writing something shrugging, frowning, shaking her head.
- 24:17Speaker 2: There's a possible answer in that's what I'm going with. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 2: I gathered that.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Oh geez, well, maybe I don't want to assume. Maybe
- 24:28Speaker 1: I've overlooked something.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Five whistle blasts options.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Though this type of grass can only spread by seating
- 24:38Speaker 1: or new shoots from the base of an existing plant,
- 24:41Speaker 1: which results in the tufts or clumps of growth that
- 24:45Speaker 1: give it its name. Nate's got an answer logan, Yeah, I.
- 24:51Speaker 6: Don't know if it's even I just have a word.
- 24:56Speaker 6: Do I thought we're going to be much more aligned,
- 24:58Speaker 6: and I'm not with you today. Yeah, Sydney were the
- 25:02Speaker 6: same shirt. Sydney got this one.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I was gonna say, what are you.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Gonna have to take it off? I think it's getting
- 25:07Speaker 5: too confusing.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Well I can't. I can't take it off due to
- 25:12Speaker 1: the shirt I'm wearing. Underneath. It doesn't align with our
- 25:15Speaker 1: corporate values.
- 25:18Speaker 6: I've got a bear canoeing under this.
- 25:21Speaker 1: That's pretty sick. Show that one.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Now take it off, tattoo.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I'm the host today, Nate, take your shirt off. Okay, yeah,
- 25:30Speaker 1: I thought that was no. I can't. I literally come on,
- 25:35Speaker 1: come on, get me in trouble. Come on, do we
- 25:39Speaker 1: all have answers before? Nate both bears the bear on
- 25:42Speaker 1: its chest. Spencer's changing real quick, your shirt.
- 25:49Speaker 4: That's good.
- 25:50Speaker 1: This is a great episode. Flip him over, everybody. Roman
- 25:54Speaker 1: says seed grass. Hillary says tough grass, Spencer says clump grass.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Logan and says cheat grass. Nate says fescue. Cal says
- 26:03Speaker 1: bunch grass. Now the answers I was looking at looking
- 26:07Speaker 1: forward about buffalo, bunch grass or tussocks. I say fescue
- 26:14Speaker 1: is a type of bunch grass. Oh, I'm right, it's
- 26:17Speaker 1: a type of bunch grass. I don't necessarily know that
- 26:21Speaker 1: I could rule that out there because I didn't specify,
- 26:26Speaker 1: like the the lefl phone. There we go. Well you
- 26:30Speaker 1: can bunch grasses are perennial grass species that grow in
- 26:33Speaker 1: discrete clumps or tufts, rather than forming continuous sod creating distinctive,
- 26:38Speaker 1: rounded shapes with deep root systems that make them exceptionally
- 26:41Speaker 1: drought resistant and valuable for erosion control.
- 26:44Speaker 2: That's what all of our lawn should be and Bozeman.
- 26:47Speaker 1: These ecologically important grasses, which include varieties like blue gramma,
- 26:51Speaker 1: fescue and wheat grass, provide critical habitat for grassland wildlife
- 26:55Speaker 1: and can survive in challenging environments. What do we think
- 26:59Speaker 1: should we give it to name gang?
- 27:00Speaker 5: You should give it to him.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I think we give it to him.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Thank you yesterday?
- 27:03Speaker 1: That problem yeah veterans, So Phil chalk that as a
- 27:08Speaker 1: point for Nate there cow.
- 27:12Speaker 2: We can give him a good loan rate. We can
- 27:14Speaker 2: give him an extra answer.
- 27:15Speaker 6: Indeed, yeah, I will.
- 27:20Speaker 1: We are now halfway through our game of trivia. Phil Man,
- 27:22Speaker 1: please have a scoreboard update.
- 27:24Speaker 3: No, thank you for saying please, so kind of you
- 27:26Speaker 3: love it when you host. We've got Roman. Oh wait,
- 27:29Speaker 3: Hillary has zero points. Roman, Spencer and Logan are tied
- 27:32Speaker 3: up with one. Nate has two, and in first place
- 27:35Speaker 3: it's Ryan Callahan with three points.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Sydney is still in it. Question six, which of the
- 27:43Speaker 1: quote big three catfish species native to North America does
- 27:47Speaker 1: not have a forked tail.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Oh, that's great.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Which of the big Spencer's got an ANSWER's got an answer?
- 27:55Speaker 1: Which of the Big three catfish Nate's got an answer?
- 27:58Speaker 1: Big three catfish species native to North America does not
- 28:01Speaker 1: have a forked tail.
- 28:03Speaker 2: How long did it take Spencer to write that?
- 28:08Speaker 6: And how fast does he write?
- 28:11Speaker 1: But there are also two catfish species that have a
- 28:14Speaker 1: very similar number of letters. In fact, they have this
- 28:18Speaker 1: shash at Randall Room.
- 28:21Speaker 3: I've just been sent a message from one of the
- 28:24Speaker 3: suits upstairs asking me to retract my previous statement turning
- 28:27Speaker 3: listeners away from listening to the show regardless of their
- 28:31Speaker 3: insane comments, and to check out all of our other
- 28:35Speaker 3: content on the met Eater podcast networks like Blood Trails

- 29:03Speaker 1: Hard dude. Question six, Which of the Big three catfish
- 29:06Speaker 1: species native to North America does not have a forked tail?
- 29:10Speaker 1: Are those who do not have answers? Are you still
- 29:13Speaker 1: once you guess?
- 29:14Speaker 2: Just name a catfish multiple choice?
- 29:18Speaker 5: I think, all I know catfish, catfish.
- 29:22Speaker 2: I don't like my answer, but and I don't know for.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Certain spencer, Nate, how are you feeling?
- 29:30Speaker 6: It's exactly how I felt.
- 29:32Speaker 1: The last one really screwed up this game.
- 29:36Speaker 6: I'm not a big fisherman if you didn't know.
- 29:38Speaker 1: But you don't have to be a fisherman to appreciate
- 29:40Speaker 1: catfish or know what they look like.
- 29:42Speaker 5: You grew up in Ohio, I should not grow up.
- 29:47Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's flip over those boards. Roman. Roman
- 29:53Speaker 1: says the southern ca the eastern spencer, the flathead Logan,
- 29:57Speaker 1: the southern catfish. Nate says the blue cat and cows
- 30:00Speaker 1: is the channel cat.
- 30:01Speaker 2: See the flathead is my favorite. So that's what I
- 30:04Speaker 2: was inclined to go.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, correct answer is flathead catfish. Nice, flathead,
- 30:10Speaker 1: blue and channel catfish make up the quote big three
- 30:13Speaker 1: distinct species found in North American waters. Flatheads, also known
- 30:17Speaker 1: as shovel heads, are distinctive from the other two, both
- 30:20Speaker 1: in the shape of their head, their brown and yellowish
- 30:23Speaker 1: coloration and their squarish tail. Both Blues and Channels have
- 30:27Speaker 1: forked tails, with Channels tails more deeply forked than Blues.
- 30:32Speaker 6: That white tail I sent you a while back.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I picked the worst.
- 30:38Speaker 5: Thing.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And the funny thing.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Is the most forked.
- 30:41Speaker 1: You've heard this question before?
- 30:43Speaker 5: Oh?
- 30:43Speaker 1: I asked it when I hosted BHA Rendezvous trivia in Minneapolis,
- 30:48Speaker 1: and because I had to cut out a question at
- 30:50Speaker 1: the very last minute, I thought I'd go back and
- 30:52Speaker 1: pick a question from that event. Nice and I said, well,
- 30:55Speaker 1: cows heard them.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I was too anxiety ridden because I had to do
- 30:59Speaker 2: the score keeping. Oh, I really.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Yeah, And I just thought it was very low odds
- 31:03Speaker 1: that you remembered here, very question. Yeah, Jack, that's such
- 31:06Speaker 1: a good question.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Blues and Channels that their tailman is almost identical, and
- 31:10Speaker 5: a lot in a lot of ways they're almost identical.
- 31:12Speaker 5: The way you tell them part is their antal rays.
- 31:14Speaker 5: One has more anal rays than the other, which one
- 31:18Speaker 5: I don't remember now. I think it's a Blue is
- 31:20Speaker 5: like between twenty two and twenty four and a Channel
- 31:23Speaker 5: is like eighteen to twenty or something.
- 31:26Speaker 1: But you don't have to count because you can just
- 31:28Speaker 1: show a photo of it to somebody and tell them
- 31:30Speaker 1: it's a channel. We're blue, and they likely can't tell
- 31:32Speaker 1: the difference.
- 31:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:34Speaker 1: On to question seven in the category of geology.
- 31:38Speaker 2: I got everybody and a bonus trivia question right there,
- 31:44Speaker 2: send a thank you?
- 31:45Speaker 4: Is man?
- 31:45Speaker 2: Go ahead?
- 31:48Speaker 1: Question seven geology? Name two of the three types of rocks?
- 31:54Speaker 1: I thought this was fun.
- 31:56Speaker 4: This is really funny.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I actually thought about making an entire trivia episode based
- 32:01Speaker 1: off of elementary school science.
- 32:05Speaker 2: This is gonna be embarrassing.
- 32:07Speaker 6: Wait, are you gonna get this run wrong?
- 32:11Speaker 2: Spencer, You're a rock.
- 32:13Speaker 6: We'll see that's your thing.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Hillary's got an answer, Logan's got an answer. No, Nate's
- 32:23Speaker 1: got an answer.
- 32:25Speaker 6: The first one I felt good about.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I thought everybody would just laugh at this, But I
- 32:30Speaker 1: also thought this game would be better. It's going poorly well.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Just by the scoreboard. Wait till you.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Get the next question.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Your buddies came up with these questions.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Do we get bonus?
- 32:44Speaker 1: I thought about having PETI three. You won't get a bonus,
- 32:48Speaker 1: but you'll just you'll display your you'll flex, Yeah, you'll
- 32:52Speaker 1: flex on the listeners. The shot density question I'd like
- 32:56Speaker 1: to credit to Christian Hughes of Seattle, Washington, long time
- 33:00Speaker 1: listener of the program and my best friend since the
- 33:03Speaker 1: age of nine.
- 33:04Speaker 5: Uh.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Plis the scene was also Christian. Oh uh yeah.
- 33:13Speaker 5: Best friend.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:14Speaker 5: What do you like so much about him?
- 33:17Speaker 1: Uh?
- 33:19Speaker 5: A little too long?
- 33:20Speaker 8: Share.
- 33:20Speaker 1: We share a certain sensibility about the world. We have
- 33:24Speaker 1: a lot in common.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Uh.
- 33:26Speaker 1: He's owned more guns than he can remember, more than you.
- 33:30Speaker 1: He's the one who got the locker full of guns
- 33:33Speaker 1: uh burglarized from his home. He collects weird stuff. We
- 33:38Speaker 1: all uh, we all got answers. Turn him over, Sorry
- 33:45Speaker 1: for the dead air. Romans says sedimentary ignorance. Hillary says
- 33:50Speaker 1: sedimentary metamorphic, igneous. Spencer says sedentary, but he crossed out
- 33:56Speaker 1: and he wrote igneous metamorphic. Logan said, set him entry
- 34:00Speaker 1: and igneous. Nate said igneous metamorphic and crossed out sedimentary,
- 34:05Speaker 1: and col wrote sedimentary and volcanic.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I had all the other words rattling around my brain. Yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 2: I just couldn't. What about mafek and malfek those are
- 34:16Speaker 2: two excellent like those geology terms too.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know. I was hoping that
- 34:23Speaker 1: someone would write sedentary, but you saved.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Your ass out.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Igneous rocks form from cooling magner oh igneus. Metamorphic and
- 34:32Speaker 1: sedimentary igneus rocks form from cooling magma, while sedimentary rocks
- 34:37Speaker 1: developed from compressed layers of debris and metamorphic rocks result
- 34:41Speaker 1: from existing rocks transformed under heat and pressure. Igneous igneous,
- 34:48Speaker 1: that's what you're thinking of. Question eight comes to us
- 34:52Speaker 1: in the category of high cinema. What What? Nineteen seventy
- 34:58Speaker 1: two feature film Fall Tune the Other Night follows the
- 35:03Speaker 1: What nineteen seventy two feature film follows the horrific misadventures
- 35:07Speaker 1: of four Atlanta businessmen who decide to canoe down the
- 35:11Speaker 1: fictional cohula Ossie River before it is Damned? What? Nineteen
- 35:18Speaker 1: seventy two feature film follows the horrific misadventures of for
- 35:22Speaker 1: Atlanta businessmen who decide to canoe down the fictional khulah
- 35:27Speaker 1: Oasie River before it is damned. Roman's writing an answer,
- 35:31Speaker 1: Hillary's writing an answer. Cal started writing an answer really aggressively,
- 35:37Speaker 1: and then I looked over and he's just got his
- 35:39Speaker 1: eyes closed because I had.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I was like, oh, is this And then when I
- 35:44Speaker 2: went to put it on the thing, I just lost
- 35:46Speaker 2: in my brain just totally went away. I can name
- 35:50Speaker 2: the actors, I can tell you the entire movie. Is
- 35:56Speaker 2: there a remake? God Almighty, No, I don't think there is.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I don't think nobody's been bold enough.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, what. Nineteen seventy two feature film This Is
- 36:11Speaker 1: So Stupid follows the horrific misadventures of four Atlanta businessmen
- 36:15Speaker 1: who decide to canoe down the fictional Cahulawassee river before
- 36:20Speaker 1: it is damned?
- 36:21Speaker 5: You know this, Logan, I don't think so.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I wrote that only movie.
- 36:25Speaker 2: I can think of that as a river related I
- 36:27Speaker 2: see what Cal's writing on his whiteboard.
- 36:29Speaker 3: And he's getting there.
- 36:34Speaker 2: This is so bad.
- 36:38Speaker 1: I could offer a hint, but no, no, hint, No,
- 36:43Speaker 1: don't do it. No, I think it would be too
- 36:45Speaker 1: obvious if I gave a hint. Cal's crossing out an
- 36:53Speaker 1: answer and he's written another answer. How are you feeling?
- 36:55Speaker 1: Did you get it?
- 36:56Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 36:56Speaker 1: Come back? Were ready to flip over the board.
- 37:01Speaker 2: I spelled it wrong, but you'll get it.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Roman says, without a paddle, logan blank, I'm sorry, logan,
- 37:10Speaker 1: without a paddle, Nate river rapid, Cal says, deliverance. The
- 37:15Speaker 1: correct answer is Deliverance, Burt Reynolds stars as an heavy
- 37:21Speaker 1: an avid outdoorsman and survivalist who leads a group of
- 37:24Speaker 1: city slickers through the remote Georgia wilderness. Along the way,
- 37:28Speaker 1: they are tested by the natural elements and hostile locals
- 37:32Speaker 1: every now and then. I consider doing a special sixty
- 37:34Speaker 1: minute movie club episode on the film, but I don't
- 37:37Speaker 1: think it would be good for our company. Has everybody
- 37:41Speaker 1: seen Deliverance? At least?
- 37:43Speaker 2: No Cal.
- 37:45Speaker 3: You didn't mention that Cal originally wrote down banjo music.
- 37:48Speaker 5: And I recognize that.
- 37:55Speaker 2: I blanked on.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Everything, Ned Batty, John Voight, Burt Russell, you're saying a
- 38:00Speaker 1: lot of words I don't.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Know you've seen without a powder Randall, Yes.
- 38:05Speaker 5: Former trivia.
- 38:07Speaker 1: It was a form.
- 38:08Speaker 2: This is back when Burt Reynolds was like on like
- 38:11Speaker 2: Playgirl magazine.
- 38:12Speaker 1: He's got this crazy like life jacket survival suit that
- 38:16Speaker 1: just looks like space armor. He shoots a compound bow.
- 38:20Speaker 2: It's like the top you know what a farmer John?
- 38:23Speaker 2: Uh yeah, uh neoprene wet suit looks like it's it's like,
- 38:32Speaker 2: uh like.
- 38:33Speaker 4: Top tank top.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Somebody falls on an arrow. It's it's right up our alley. Gang,
- 38:39Speaker 1: but it's also really really disturbing.
- 38:40Speaker 5: The swim suit in Borant Is that making No? That's
- 38:44Speaker 5: not no, that's what movie does? That making fun? I forget.
- 38:47Speaker 5: I feel like it's Burt Reynolds wearing that never mind.
- 38:50Speaker 1: No, I don't worry about it. Burt Reynolds could pull
- 38:52Speaker 1: that one off. Phil, We've got two questions left in
- 38:56Speaker 1: our game of trivia. Oh, how's the scoreboard now?
- 39:00Speaker 3: If only Sydney were here to help us out. God uh,
- 39:04Speaker 3: Hillary has one point now on the board. Roman and
- 39:07Speaker 3: Logan are tied up with two Spencer and eight hal three,
- 39:10Speaker 3: and Ryan Callahan's still in first place by a mere
- 39:13Speaker 3: one point.
- 39:14Speaker 4: He has four.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Good thing he came up with, Deliverance. I'm shocked, guys
- 39:22Speaker 1: take for granted that people like watching really disturbing movies.
- 39:28Speaker 1: On the question nine, I suppose anyway, this comes in the.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Category of I'm the oldest person in the room.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I just feel like Deliverance is such a classic
- 39:38Speaker 1: cultural reference.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Oh, I.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Guess what The question nine comes in the category of fishing.
- 39:47Speaker 1: What is the five letter term for the membrane or
- 39:50Speaker 1: sack that hold together the eggs of fish like salmon
- 39:53Speaker 1: and steelhead.
- 39:55Speaker 2: It's a term.
- 39:56Speaker 1: It's a word, a word.
- 40:00Speaker 2: I never wrote all these questions, like, yeah, everyone's gonna
- 40:02Speaker 2: know these.
- 40:02Speaker 5: Problem is Sydney gonna answer if you have to call
- 40:05Speaker 5: her and uh figure out what her answer is in overtime?
- 40:11Speaker 1: Oh? You know I could text her. I'll just text
- 40:16Speaker 1: her the question without.
- 40:17Speaker 5: Any She's google it, but that's okay.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Hopefully she doesn't.
- 40:23Speaker 2: I don't know how to spell this either.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Uh what is the five letter term for the membrane
- 40:30Speaker 1: or sack that hold together the eggs of fish like
- 40:33Speaker 1: steelhead and salmon? God? I thought it was getting better
- 40:37Speaker 1: at this hosting thing, but this is going very.
- 40:40Speaker 4: You're doing great. Don't blame yourself, Phil.
- 40:41Speaker 1: I think Folks is a fun episode and there's gonna
- 40:45Speaker 1: be a lot of people. I think that will will
- 40:48Speaker 1: How did they not know deliverance?
- 40:50Speaker 4: I'm right there with you.
- 40:51Speaker 1: It's like Jaws.
- 40:52Speaker 5: That'll make you feel better. Yeah, comment, okay, Yeah, everyone
- 40:56Speaker 5: should comment? Then? How how the hell did they not know?
- 40:58Speaker 4: That?
- 40:59Speaker 2: So horrible? What?
- 41:09Speaker 1: Sorry for the dead air. I'm texting my wife question.
- 41:15Speaker 4: That question for I'll do it later.
- 41:18Speaker 1: I'll do it later if we need to go to overtime.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Cal still got a one point lead. But boy, everybody's
- 41:23Speaker 1: in it except for Hillary. Because so few of these
- 41:26Speaker 1: questions have been answered correctly.
- 41:31Speaker 3: You always have, you know, whenever I feel bad about,
- 41:33Speaker 3: you know, a performance behind the microphone, not that I
- 41:35Speaker 3: get a lot of opportunities. Yeah, Yanni's Yanni's first game
- 41:39Speaker 3: that he hosted. Maybe second the worst.
- 41:42Speaker 4: I mean it wasn't the highest.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Was it like a three?
- 41:45Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 41:46Speaker 4: That was tough.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Does anybody feel confident about their answer?
- 41:51Speaker 5: No? No, cow? Am I winned?
- 41:53Speaker 2: Here are the spencer? You gotta feel confident?
- 41:56Speaker 1: Are we ready to turn them over and have it? Roman?
- 42:00Speaker 1: See what you got there, buddy? Creativity the baggy Hillary's blank,
- 42:04Speaker 1: Spencer's's paper logan says he crossed out a eight letter scrot.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Cow says scan. Correct answer is scan wow? How s
- 42:19Speaker 1: k e I n.
- 42:22Speaker 5: Scain point.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Skin of eggs refers to clustered, massive eggs produced by
- 42:25Speaker 1: some fish species, particularly salmon and other anadromous fish, that
- 42:29Speaker 1: resemble a loose, intertwined bundle. The sticky membrane connecting these
- 42:33Speaker 1: eggs helps keep them together during deposition and gravel stream beds.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Hmm, nothing, I'm not a cold water guy. I'm a
- 42:42Speaker 5: warm water guy.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Before we move on to our final question, here's a
- 42:48Speaker 1: quick recap of our answers so far. Question one neurovirus,
- 42:52Speaker 1: Question two, tungsten, led bismuth and steel, Question three, Place
- 42:57Speaker 1: the scene Question four three, Question five bunch grass or tussock?
- 43:02Speaker 1: Question six, flathead, Question seven, igneous metamorphic sedimentary Question eight,
- 43:08Speaker 1: deliverance Question nine skin Now Phil? Do we have a
- 43:15Speaker 1: change in the scoreboard or are we still playing here?
- 43:19Speaker 3: The game is effectively over because Ryan Callahan is two
- 43:22Speaker 3: points in the lead, and can why don't we.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Throw out a lame duck here? And I'll tell Sydney
- 43:29Speaker 1: she doesn't need to tell me what percentage of drowning
- 43:31Speaker 1: victims weren't wearing life jackets. Our listener question of the
- 43:37Speaker 1: week comes from Luke Billingsley for submitting this great question.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Luke will receive a signed board game from the crew.
- 43:45Speaker 1: If you have a great idea for a trivia question,
- 43:48Speaker 1: email Trivia at the mediater dot com. Is that the
- 43:51Speaker 1: quick script? That's right? I did that from memory. I
- 43:54Speaker 1: forgot to add it here. Somebody's not screwing.
- 43:58Speaker 5: It up today.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Randall will just look Spencer.
- 44:00Speaker 3: The entire time I.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Was looking for affirmation. On a compass, north, south, east,
- 44:08Speaker 1: and west are referred to as cardinal directions. What is
- 44:12Speaker 1: the term for the halfway points between each cardinal direction?
- 44:15Speaker 1: For example southwest, southeast, northwest or northeast.
- 44:22Speaker 6: Two ways to go about this.
- 44:23Speaker 1: We shouldn't have asked this question, just another complete flop.
- 44:29Speaker 2: Oh God, seems like a real waste to name that, Randa.
- 44:33Speaker 3: When I was putting these questions into the slidesh over
- 44:36Speaker 3: the game today, when I read this question, I thought, Wow,
- 44:39Speaker 3: I learned something today and I'm a better person for it.
- 44:42Speaker 1: There we go, Phil, That's the best thing anybody could
- 44:44Speaker 1: have said to me right now, other than I mean
- 44:47Speaker 1: it can go home.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Or I.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Literally googled quotes from people about how dumb birds are,
- 44:59Speaker 1: and I was trying to find somebody in the media
- 45:01Speaker 1: or universe who had said something bad about birds. Mmm,
- 45:05Speaker 1: just to just to play on that theme. I thought
- 45:09Speaker 1: that would delight some people. But I failed in that too.
- 45:12Speaker 8: Hm.
- 45:13Speaker 4: Again.
- 45:13Speaker 2: I walked six miles and got one pheasant on Sunday,
- 45:17Speaker 2: and I love that bird.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Bird again, Luke Billingsley, it's a great question. On a compass, north, south, east,
- 45:25Speaker 1: and west are referred to as cardinal directions. What is
- 45:28Speaker 1: the term for the halfway points between each cardinal direction?
- 45:31Speaker 1: For example southwest, southeast, northwest, northeast. Like I learned this,
- 45:37Speaker 1: m you remember the rock thing. Why couldn't you do
- 45:40Speaker 1: this one too? You haven't used the rock thing once?
- 45:46Speaker 5: Seems to be instead of apologizing, Manda, you should just
- 45:49Speaker 5: get mad at us.
- 45:51Speaker 2: We'll do another I showed up today.
- 45:53Speaker 1: We'll do We'll do another episode of this. Actually, Phil,
- 45:57Speaker 1: we could just do the whole thing over because we
- 45:59Speaker 1: did that change the slide where you cut out the necessary.
- 46:03Speaker 2: That would be really fun. And to just do this
- 46:05Speaker 2: episode over right now and see how many of us
- 46:08Speaker 2: can remember all of them.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Yeah, then feed on questions wrong, then that'd be the
- 46:14Speaker 1: best way to do it. Do we have answers? If
- 46:17Speaker 1: we're going to get answers? I mean, I know this
- 46:19Speaker 1: is all just a futile exercise and we're sort of
- 46:22Speaker 1: putting on this charade for the listeners who are playing
- 46:24Speaker 1: at home, if their games haven't already been ruined by
- 46:27Speaker 1: my questions.
- 46:29Speaker 5: I am interested in the life jacket drowning percentage. I
- 46:33Speaker 5: wrote down my answer for that as well.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, there's probably a lot of listeners playing along
- 46:39Speaker 1: with your friends. We're at zero or one.
- 46:43Speaker 2: We're wearing a life jacket, or we're not wearing life jacket.
- 46:45Speaker 1: We're not wearing a life jacket. So are you asking
- 46:49Speaker 1: about the question we're doing or the question that I
- 46:51Speaker 1: read earlier that we're going to do latership on a
- 46:54Speaker 1: compass north southeast? Do we have our answers to this question?
- 47:02Speaker 1: Uh mm hmm, I'll give you. Actually, I can't really
- 47:09Speaker 1: give you a hand to give your hand for this one.
- 47:14Speaker 2: This is so bad, but I don't want to talking
- 47:19Speaker 2: about your memory the host. I don't think this is
- 47:24Speaker 2: so bad.
- 47:25Speaker 1: It's so bad.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Can't make chicken soup.
- 47:28Speaker 1: If you've got a perfect game on today's episode of Trivia,
- 47:32Speaker 1: email me at Trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 47:35Speaker 1: Let's hang out and yeah, i'd like to know you
- 47:40Speaker 1: like to.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Get to that person until that episode?
- 47:44Speaker 1: All right, gang, let's flip him over. Roman says Raven,
- 47:51Speaker 1: Hillary says medial, Spencer says Eagle. That's good, Logan says Tertiary.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Nate says Bishop.
- 47:59Speaker 4: I like that.
- 47:59Speaker 1: I thought quite a bit about that joke. Cal has nothing,
- 48:03Speaker 1: Sydney said Papal. Yeah, the correct answer is Ordinal ordinal
- 48:10Speaker 1: directions are the points that fall between the four cardinal
- 48:13Speaker 1: directions on a compass rose east northeast or west northwest
- 48:20Speaker 1: are secondary intercardinal directions that provide even more precise navigational
- 48:24Speaker 1: references points on a sixteen point compass.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Rose ordinal cardinal, intercardinal.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Intercard secondary intercardinal. It's easy to remember. You just think
- 48:36Speaker 1: ce oh s I c cossick cos I see should
- 48:43Speaker 1: be pretty straightforward. Well embarrassed if you're playing along at home.
- 48:47Speaker 1: Let's hit this tie breaker.
- 48:49Speaker 4: All right? Do you want to drop drop?
- 48:51Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do it for the listeners. Oh, I'll read
- 48:59Speaker 1: it store.
- 49:02Speaker 4: Oh you mean to put on the screen rail?
- 49:03Speaker 1: Yeah, tiebreaker. According to a twenty twenty four US Coast
- 49:08Speaker 1: Guard report, what percentage of drowning victims in recreational boating instance,
- 49:13Speaker 1: we're not wearing a personal flotation device and don't go
- 49:17Speaker 1: to a decimal, just go to a round number. According
- 49:22Speaker 1: to a twenty twenty four US Coast Guard report, what
- 49:25Speaker 1: percentage of drowning victims in recreational boating instance, we're not
- 49:29Speaker 1: wearing a personal flotation device.
- 49:32Speaker 2: You shall play along. You should just go full like
- 49:36Speaker 2: SNL Trebek here and be like, or you You're just
- 49:40Speaker 2: right down a number, any number, and I'd be proud
- 49:43Speaker 2: of you.
- 49:43Speaker 1: I'll give you a hint. It's not higher than a hundred.
- 49:49Speaker 1: I think there. I think there are a lot of
- 49:51Speaker 1: purists that are gonna hate this episode. Sure, I think
- 49:54Speaker 1: there's a lot of.
- 49:56Speaker 6: Anarchists.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Yeah, there's there's a lot of sort of iconic class
- 50:00Speaker 1: and random randomals that are gonna love the chaotic nature
- 50:04Speaker 1: of this episode.
- 50:06Speaker 5: Put this one on the outdoor channel though. Yeah, I
- 50:08Speaker 5: think I think we'll skip this one.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Seriously, I didn't say anything.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Spencer kicked mine off the other I don't know. I
- 50:16Speaker 3: don't know why.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Okay, we all have answers, right, we all have answers
- 50:24Speaker 1: to our super superfluous tiebreaker Romans is seventy seven. Hillary
- 50:29Speaker 1: says one hundred, Spencer says ninety four, Logan says ninety,
- 50:33Speaker 1: Nate says eighty eight. Calsa is seventy four. If you
- 50:36Speaker 1: could tell by the intonation in my voice, Nate's real
- 50:39Speaker 1: darn close. Eighty seven percent whoa eighty seven.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Percentates we still didn't get.
- 50:45Speaker 1: It were your life jacket.
- 50:47Speaker 5: I imagine that other thirteen percent like got a concussion
- 50:49Speaker 5: or something.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I think slipped out through the alcoholical factor,
- 50:55Speaker 2: and a lot of this stuff's pretty kind of splitting hairs.
- 51:03Speaker 1: As you know from several minutes ago.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Today's winner I'm chopped up is.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Ryan olkal Klan.
- 51:10Speaker 5: Where will he do it?
- 51:10Speaker 3: To?
- 51:11Speaker 1: Which worthy cause would you like to donate your five
- 51:13Speaker 1: hundred dollars winning?
- 51:14Speaker 5: There's so many conservation groups out there.
- 51:17Speaker 1: But only one would be a true conflict of interest
- 51:20Speaker 1: in self dealing.
- 51:22Speaker 8: I know.
- 51:24Speaker 2: We have a super awesome person who's currently working the
- 51:29Speaker 2: phones that got a master's degree and a bachelor's degree
- 51:34Speaker 2: in conservation related things in four years at the University
- 51:37Speaker 2: of Montana Deer Lodge Native not the penitentiary but actually
- 51:42Speaker 2: the school good that I would like to get off
- 51:45Speaker 2: of the customer service into things at BHA. So I'm
- 51:49Speaker 2: going to donate five hundred dollars to this person that
- 51:52Speaker 2: that position.
- 51:53Speaker 5: Oh okay, yeah, I like that.
- 51:55Speaker 1: So you are donating it to BHL, I am okay, Yeah,
- 51:58Speaker 1: I will make more of that than.
- 52:01Speaker 5: I always like when someone explains why they're donating to
- 52:03Speaker 5: a place. That's the most specific example we've ever gotten. Yeah,
- 52:07Speaker 5: that's good.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that's great.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Good, that's great, just the future of conservation. Who just
- 52:12Speaker 2: wants to be working on good stuff and yeah, working work.
- 52:18Speaker 2: She's the face of BHA Maz the phones.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Well, congrats, Cal, and I assume what might be one
- 52:24Speaker 1: of your final appearances as a as a Meat Eater
- 52:28Speaker 1: Crew contestant and not a guest contestant.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Is that because I've just won so much in my
- 52:34Speaker 2: last two or three appearances.
- 52:37Speaker 1: No, I just figured it'll be gone a lot coming up. Yeah,
- 52:40Speaker 1: it's November. I wanted to do that in a special way,
- 52:44Speaker 1: but now I think we just pulled the plug on this.
- 52:47Speaker 1: I've never been so embarrassed to whim. Yeah, folks, thanks
- 52:55Speaker 1: for listening, thanks for watching. Promise to do better next time.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I'm Cal. Congratulations Nate, you did trade on that tiebreaker
- 53:04Speaker 1: that didn't get you anything, and have a good day.
- 53:11Speaker 7: Yes. Spencer from South Dakota. He's the host using those smooth,
- 53:15Speaker 7: mellow tones. He lays them questions down, and he likes
- 53:24Speaker 7: taking those two and three year old bucks and he's
- 53:28Speaker 7: an avid amateur
- 53:31Speaker 1: Lock
