- Lucas: Hey Luna, good to have you back. This is Learn Telugu with Fexingo, and we're here to make Telugu a little less scary and a lot more fun. Luna: Hey Lucas! I'm ready. Last time we learned how to hire an auto, and I've been practicing. But I still feel a bit stuck when it comes to haggling over the fare. Lucas: Ah, that's a great point. Negotiating is a big part of the auto experience. Today, let's focus on those fare negotiations. By the end, you'll be able to say 'this is too much' and 'please reduce it a little' like a pro. Luna: Oh, I definitely need that. The other day, I got quoted a price and I just smiled and nodded. So embarrassing. Lucas: Well, today we'll fix that. First phrase: ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ. Can you try it? Slowly. Luna: ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ. Hmm, ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ. Lucas: Perfect. It means 'this is too much'. You can use it when the driver quotes a fare that seems high. For example, the driver says 'two hundred rupees', and you say ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ. Luna: Got it. ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ. And then I say 'please reduce it'? Lucas: Exactly. That's our second phrase: కాస్త తగ్గించండి. Say it with me: కాస్త తగ్గించండి. Luna: కాస్త తగ్గించండి. That's a mouthful. కాస్త తగ్గించండి. Lucas: You said it well. It means 'please reduce it a little'. So you can say: ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ, కాస్త తగ్గించండి. This is too much, please reduce it a little. Luna: Okay, so combine them. ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ, కాస్త తగ్గించండి. Lucas: Flawless. Now, let me tell you something. I've been thinking about how this show stays free and ad-free. If you're getting value out of these lessons, the way we keep it going is through listener support. You can help us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a simple way to say thanks and keep the lessons coming. We appreciate everyone who supports us. Lucas: For sure. Now, back to our auto. So we have the phrases to complain and ask for a reduction. What do you do if the driver agrees? Luna: I guess I say 'okay, let's go'? Is that a phrase we can learn? Lucas: Absolutely. That's సరే వెళదాం. Repeat after me: సరే వెళదాం. Luna: సరే వెళదాం. సరే వెళదాం. That sounds nice. It means 'okay, let's go'. Lucas: Right. So the whole negotiation might go like this: Driver says the fare. You say ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ, కాస్త తగ్గించండి. He says a lower price. You agree and say సరే వెళదాం. Perfect. Luna: I love it. But what if he doesn't agree? What if he insists on the higher price? Lucas: Good question. Then you can simply say అంతే, which means 'that's it' or 'that's all'. And you can walk away. Or you can use it to say 'that's my final offer'. For example, you say the price you want to pay, and then అంతే. Luna: So అంతే is like 'final'. I remember we used that in the market. అంతే. Lucas: Yes, exactly. It's a very handy word. So if the driver is being stubborn, you can say 'నేను ఇంతే ఇస్తాను', but let's keep it simple. Just say అంతే and see what happens. Luna: Okay, so I have the phrases for the negotiation. But what about when we arrive? How do I say 'stop here'? Lucas: Ah, we learned that last time, didn't we? ఇక్కడ ఆపండి. That's 'stop here'. Let's just review it quickly: ఇక్కడ ఆపండి. Luna: ఇక్కడ ఆపండి. Got it. So to summarize, I can say ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ, కాస్త తగ్గించండి, then సరే వెళదాం, and at the end ఇక్కడ ఆపండి. Lucas: You've got the whole journey covered. Let's do a quick role-play. I'll be the auto driver. So, where to? Luna: ఈ ప్రాంతానికి ఎంత? Lucas: One hundred rupees. Luna: ఇది చాలా ఎక్కువ, కాస్త తగ్గించండి. Lucas: Eighty rupees. Luna: సరే వెళదాం. Lucas: And after a few minutes, you say, ఇక్కడ ఆపండి. And you pay and get out. Luna: That felt so empowering. I can actually do this now. Thank you, Lucas. Lucas: You're welcome. Remember, practice these phrases a few times, and next time you're in an auto, you'll be ready. This has been Learn Telugu with Fexingo. See you next time.
