- 0:27Amen. Amen.
- 0:28Take your Bibles, open them to Genesis Chapter 9 Genesis
- 0:32chapter 9 and a Bible study that I've entitled, everyone sins
- 0:39everyone and we ended chapter 8. Last time learning about the
- 0:44incredible faithfulness of Noah, his enduring patients during of
- 0:49the most difficult time in human history, this worldwide judgment
- 0:54and I mean, even using the word difficult, it can't really
- 0:57describe this worldwide. Giant of sinful, man, it was
- 1:01devastating. And yet, in the midst of it, all
- 1:04was the ark and the grace of God, and the rescuing power of
- 1:09God. And if anything that we learn
- 1:12from the life of Noah, is that you can live a moral upright,
- 1:16righteous life in the power of God, in the midst of a very dark
- 1:20world that the world does not have to corrupt.
- 1:23You, you don't have to go along with the program but you can be
- 1:27extremely individually. Distinct.
- 1:30In your relationship with Jesus. So notice now in verse 1, so God
- 1:35blessed, Noah and his sons and said to them, be fruitful and
- 1:39multiply and fill the Earth, and this command to remote apply is
- 1:45now repeated exiting the ark. It's a time of new beginnings
- 1:49and we love New Beginnings. We love New Beginnings.
- 1:52If it means the recovery after disqualifying sin or falling on
- 1:56our face. We love the new beginnings of
- 1:58taking steps of faith. And going from glory to glory
- 2:01and strength to strength. And these are new beginnings,
- 2:04even though you have to use your Sanctified imagination.
- 2:09To think of what a difficult world that they walked out into
- 2:14a world. That's just experience the
- 2:16Judgment of God. It was a world filled with death
- 2:19and Devastation or you could even say it was a lifeless world
- 2:23and God's instruction in a lifeless world was multiplied.
- 2:28Bring life where there is lifelessness.
- 2:31And after destroying, man, does why would God want to multiply
- 2:35again? I mean, God loves human beings,
- 2:39he loves his creation. I mean, when you look at it and
- 2:42you see what happened in the in the first group that was
- 2:46created, you might step back and go why again, well, because God
- 2:49loves you. He wants to have a relationship
- 2:51with you. He loves humans.
- 2:54He has a plan for you. He wants what's best for you and
- 2:57me. For your life, to be fruitful
- 3:00for you to multiply his love and grace to others.
- 3:03And you know, this command here and 9:1, it was fulfilled.
- 3:08I looked up. There's a website where you can
- 3:09see in real time, what the population is and of the day, I
- 3:13looked this up the population now is seven billion, nine
- 3:17hundred and fifty eight million 635 and they click.
- 3:21It just keeps clicking and clicking and clicking and
- 3:23clicking and clicking and God starts over with no one.
- 3:27Instead of Adam and notice in this command he leaves off the
- 3:32instruction to have dominion over the Earth.
- 3:37He leaves off. That instruction.
- 3:38Why? Because Noah doesn't know it
- 3:40yet, but we can see it. He doesn't understand it yet in
- 3:44its fullness, but we can see it today because we have this
- 3:47biblical truth unveiled that the Dominion of the Earth has been
- 3:52taken by Satan. The Bible says, in John 12:31
- 3:57that the Judgment of this world now is the Judgment of this
- 4:00world. Jesus says, now the ruler of the
- 4:03world would be cast out and later on inspired by the Holy
- 4:07Spirit, Paul would say to the Corinthians and second
- 4:09Corinthians. 4:4 he says, who's the minds of the God of this age
- 4:15has blinded in Luke chapter 4 verse 6.
- 4:18It says, the devil said to him, all this Authority, I give to
- 4:23you and trying to tempt Jesus. The Bible says that the world is
- 4:27under the The sway of the wicked one.
- 4:31And so you look around and you can see those things.
- 4:35A lot of people today, and maybe that's where you sit listening
- 4:39to me right now. You're one of those many that
- 4:42blame God for the devastating effects of sin.
- 4:45In this world, you're blaming God for what you see.
- 4:49You're blaming God for the murderous Rampages, and
- 4:53devastating things and schools and parades and, and in life.
- 4:57But in reality, the blame goes directly to the devil.
- 5:01It leaves upon his shoulder sin, has wrecked at all.
- 5:05That's the devil alone that is the thief and a robber and a
- 5:09liar, and a murderer from the beginning, causing and creating
- 5:13Havoc around the world. But then we know when Jesus
- 5:17came. He came to confront the devil.
- 5:19He came to meet him and defeat him face-to-face.
- 5:24Let me show you this. Would you turn over to
- 5:25Colossians chapter 2? I want you to see it in your
- 5:28Bibles. I'm going to read it to you from
- 5:29the new living and in, New King, James return over to Colossians
- 5:34chapter 2, and consider the power of God.
- 5:38There are a lot of changes in a lot of different legislation and
- 5:42laws that could truly help man today, but the true essence of
- 5:47help for man is for a man and a woman to be born again.
- 5:51That's where life change takes place.
- 5:53That's where a murderer, no longer murders, where he no
- 5:57longer invents things in his mind and you can't legislate
- 6:01morality. Reality morality is a hard
- 6:03issue. It is to the depth of who a
- 6:06person is and their relationship with God and look what's
- 6:09available to you today. Notice with me Colossians
- 6:12chapter 2, and verse 13 first. I'll read it to you in the new
- 6:15King James Colossians 2 verse 13.
- 6:18The Bible says in you being dead in your trespasses and the
- 6:22uncircumcision of your flesh, he's made alive together with
- 6:26him having forgiven you all trespasses having wiped out.
- 6:31A handwriting of requirements that was against us which was
- 6:35contrary to us and he has taken it out of the way, having nailed
- 6:40it to the cross and listen to verse 15, isn't this glorious?
- 6:43Having disarmed, principalities and Powers making a public
- 6:48spectacle of them triumphing over them in it.
- 6:53Listen to how the new king or the New Living Translation this
- 6:56you were dead because of your sins and because of your sinful
- 6:59nature that was not yet, come Away and then God made you alive
- 7:04in Christ. For he forgave, all of your
- 7:06sins, he canceled the record of the charges against us.
- 7:12And he took it away by nailing, it to the cross.
- 7:15And then he says, in this way, he disarmed, the spiritual
- 7:18rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his
- 7:23victory, over them on the cross. We're reminded of the victory.
- 7:28When we look to the cross, the devil has been shame.
- 7:32He knows that he has just a short time and it seems as if
- 7:36he's pulled out all the stops. And you know what, Believers,
- 7:40it's time to no longer cooperate with him, don't offer him areas
- 7:45of your life through compromise and send don't cooperate with
- 7:49his. But rather, as Paul says, in
- 7:50Ephesians Stand Fast, put on the whole armor of God, that you
- 7:56might fight the good fight. Jesus is taken back that
- 7:59authority over the kingdoms of Swirled and as you live abiding
- 8:03in Christ you live in Jesus Authority.
- 8:07One of the things. The devil doesn't want you to
- 8:09know. I think it's high on the list of
- 8:11the things. The devil doesn't want you to
- 8:12know is the power and authority. You have in Christ that not
- 8:17everything just happens to you that you're not just merely a
- 8:20victim of circumstance but that you and I live in the victory of
- 8:23Jesus because he died and rose again and you can live over the
- 8:28victory of sin and death, you no longer have to be bound.
- 8:31Or Shackled to bad habits or to old ways of thinking, you can be
- 8:36reminded that you're a new creation in Christ.
- 8:39And while many people, cooperate, as many of us, I many
- 8:42of us that we did cooperate in the darkness of this world.
- 8:46Now, in the Light of Christ you live in Victory, generational
- 8:50change starts with you, the change in your family, starts
- 8:54with you and I know what a discouragement that can be to
- 8:56you because you think well it has started with me but no one
- 8:59else is following. No no it's Art's with you and
- 9:02then we allow God to do the work and don't give up, but at it's
- 9:07been five years, okay? Be faithful.
- 9:09It's been 10 years. Be faithful, it's been 15 years,
- 9:13edits been 55 years. And yet, look at you, you've
- 9:18been faithful unto the Lord remain faithful finish.
- 9:22Well, a couple of things I've been noticing in these last days
- 9:26that are very concerning to me and I think you would join me in
- 9:29prayer. Number one is that the message
- 9:31of the Gospel is no longer, exciting or encouraging.
- 9:35And now what we're seeing in many Believers lives and over
- 9:38the last few years is that they are doing exactly what the Bible
- 9:42predicted. Even though we may not have
- 9:44believed, it could be, it's happening in our generation.
- 9:46Should wear the word of God, they're not enduring sound
- 9:49Doctrine anymore. And so what they're looking for,
- 9:52teachers to submit themselves to so that their ears will be
- 9:55tickled. So that they will find a message
- 9:59apart from the simple basic doctrines of God.
- 10:03Some weird view, some weird addition something that gets our
- 10:07eyes off the Simplicity of Jesus Christ and to some weird
- 10:10teaching, some weird book some weird profit that is false to
- 10:15begin with some New thing on YouTube and not just loving God,
- 10:19with all your heart, soul and mind, and loving your neighbor
- 10:21as yourself. And it concerns me, it concerns
- 10:24me over and over again to see people that were wants a vital
- 10:27part of this church. Now following some weird thing
- 10:31and on willing to come back to the Simplicity of the gospel
- 10:35church, I commend you to endure sound Doctrine, endureth receive
- 10:42it. Let God do a thorough work and
- 10:44you know there's a second thing I'm noticing in these Days.
- 10:47Especially in the last few years is that many people are not
- 10:52finishing well, They're not finishing well a lot earlier
- 10:57than I anticipated. Some that I've seen in my life
- 11:00have shocked me. You know how the Bible says that
- 11:04sometimes even the elect will be deceived and I'm like, what does
- 11:08that mean in cycle? Most like the Lord showing me
- 11:11here, are people that that you saw that you walk in there.
- 11:14Just in a place of Deceit, they're in a place of
- 11:17backslidden, they're in a place of making decisions and it just
- 11:21Grieves me and I'm sure you're seeing the same thing watching
- 11:25it with your own eyes. The Stumbling and not finishing
- 11:29well. And I commend you Church Finish
- 11:32Well, indoor person. Remember what we learned in
- 11:37Hebrews there was that time where Paul was writing to the
- 11:40Hebrews and he said, you have need of endurance and it's true.
- 11:46We have need of endurance. And especially these days,
- 11:48notice verse 2, he says in the fear of you and the dread of all
- 11:52coming back to Genesis 9, now shall be on every beast of the
- 11:55Earth on every bird of the air, on all that, move on the earth,
- 11:59and all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.
- 12:03And every moving thing that liveth shall be food for you,
- 12:06I've given you all things even as the green herbs.
- 12:11And so now God, the, instead of using the phrase Dominion he
- 12:14speaks of this dread, it's a different relationship with the
- 12:18animals after sin, and God has placed a dread and animals of
- 12:22man. And this is good, because if
- 12:25this dread wasn't there, we, they could have exterminated,
- 12:28those eight people right away. And as we, it's all All done
- 12:31because the the lions are upset about it and boom, just taking
- 12:34them out. But that is a good thing.
- 12:37Verse 3. God never intended for man,
- 12:39notice to trash the Earth where to be good stewards of God's
- 12:43creation and never intended for us to trash the Earth or to
- 12:47trash the animal kingdom, but to wisely use it for health and for
- 12:52nourishment. And yet it's in human nature to
- 12:55take a good thing and ruin it and here again is a place where
- 12:58those that would want to especially in.
- 13:00State. But now most States now that
- 13:02marijuana is legal is they will look right here.
- 13:04It says God has given me all the green herbs so it's okay to be
- 13:08under the influence and smoke pot and no it's not.
- 13:11Okay. And if it was really okay, then
- 13:13grow some Poison Ivy and rub that all over your body?
- 13:17No, no, no, it's not the herb that I want.
- 13:19I know because you make a distinction, don't you?
- 13:22And so sometimes God makes a distinction for us.
- 13:25This is what God gave It All To Us.
- 13:28Yeah, but not all of its profitable for you.
- 13:31Not all it is what God wants for you to be under the influence
- 13:33will see that later on. We'll see that being under the
- 13:36influence. Makes you a very vulnerable
- 13:39person even after the first drink even after the first we'll
- 13:43get to that in a moment notice verse 4 he says but you shall
- 13:46not eat flesh with its life that is its blood.
- 13:52Surely for your life what I will demand a reckoning from the hand
- 13:56of every Beast I will require it and from the hand of man From
- 14:01the hand of Every Man's brother. I will require the life of man,
- 14:06verse 6. Whoever sheds man's blood by
- 14:09man, his blood shall be shed for in the image of God.
- 14:12He made, man and as for you be fruitful and multiply bring
- 14:17forth abundantly in the earth and multiply it, let me just
- 14:22speak to an interesting doctor and it actually is floated
- 14:25through the church recently. And that is, there is this false
- 14:29teaching that says after After sin, man is no longer made in
- 14:34the image of God. Now man is made in the image of,
- 14:37man. And I want you to notice after
- 14:40the fall after the Judgment. I want you to see the foundation
- 14:44of human government. How God is establishing capital
- 14:47punishment? One of the ways.
- 14:49Speaking of this, he says, After the flood after sin that man, it
- 14:54says in verse 6, was made in the image of God.
- 14:59And it's just those that would want to catch your ear and go,
- 15:03man, as well. Of course, in one sense, men are
- 15:07made in the image of men in the sense that you carry along that
- 15:11human perspective, and humanity and that sinful nature is passed
- 15:16on, but your value and your worth doesn't come from, you
- 15:21being created in the image of another man, your value and word
- 15:24transcends Humanity, you your value.
- 15:28Your worth is In your Creator and the attributes, you share
- 15:34with your Creator and that false teaching is very easily.
- 15:38Dismissed here to Noah. Now this is the first
- 15:43prohibition of eating raw and bloody meat.
- 15:46It was both a dietary caution but also a spiritual truth will
- 15:51learn later on as you continue in your reading.
- 15:54And those of you that read through the Bible, this year,
- 15:55you read and Leviticus chapter 17 and verse 11 for The life of
- 16:00the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the
- 16:03altar to make atonement for your souls for it, is the blood that
- 16:07makes atonement for the soul? And not only do you have the
- 16:11value of blood here but you have in this section, the basic
- 16:15building block for human government for any law-abiding
- 16:21society. And interestingly enough God
- 16:25establishes here that capital punishment is Keeping the peace
- 16:31in any society and notice that God instituted it.
- 16:35Not man, this was not the creation of Noah.
- 16:39This is in the direction After the flood beginning to
- 16:42repopulate and multiply God institute's and it becomes a key
- 16:47foundation in the Mosaic law handed down through, Moses, I
- 16:51know capital punishment is a hotly debated topic today.
- 16:56Both sides, taking very strong and passionate opinions.
- 17:01But according to Romans chapter 13, would you turn there with
- 17:03me? Romans chapter 13.
- 17:08According to Romans chapter 13. In these first few verses
- 17:12capital punishment is the responsibility of human
- 17:15government. Notice Romans 13.
- 17:21And certainly it is misapplied in cultures, certainly in
- 17:25justices take place when it comes to capital punishment or
- 17:29really standing any before, any human court is a God is Not
- 17:33establishing that it will be carried out justly every time.
- 17:37Because apart from God, lots of Injustice takes place.
- 17:41However, that doesn't undermine the building blocks that God
- 17:44gives notice in verse 1. It says, let every soul be
- 17:47subject to the governing authorities for there is no
- 17:50Authority. Except from God, that's a
- 17:53statement of the sovereignty of God.
- 17:56Whether you agree with the government or you don't agree
- 17:58with the government. According to God, there's no
- 18:01Authority except from about whether you like your boss or
- 18:04you don't like your boss, there is no Authority other from God.
- 18:08God has placed the authorities in our lives, for our good and
- 18:12for our discipleship, I don't want you to read Romans 13.
- 18:16That this says that all of that no Authority.
- 18:20Is there is no A except from God or don't read it this way.
- 18:23There is no Authority that you don't like that isn't from God
- 18:27or that you like don't they insert that says well I love my
- 18:30boss. They yes the authority from God,
- 18:33I can't stand my boss. That's not the authority of God.
- 18:36No, Paul's very clear writing to predominantly slaves.
- 18:42In a very oppressive, authoritarian, anti-god
- 18:46government, the Roman government and he says the authorities that
- 18:51exist or appointed by God. And that's hard to accept when
- 18:56you don't like the direction of the government.
- 18:59So hard statement to accept many try to get around this.
- 19:02Instead of Simply learning like the Bible says, to mind our own
- 19:05business and live a simple life. Love God, with all your heart.
- 19:09Soul and mind love your neighbor as yourself.
- 19:11You know, that works in any culture, it works in any
- 19:14government. It works in any country, it
- 19:17works with any leadership structure.
- 19:19As we just mind, our own business live, simply before our
- 19:23God. Love him with all our heart,
- 19:25soul, mind and strength, and love our neighbors as ourselves
- 19:28notice verse 2, therefore whoever resists The Authority
- 19:31resist, the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring
- 19:34judgment on themselves for rulers.
- 19:37Out of Terror to do good works but to evil.
- 19:41Do you want to be unafraid of the authority?
- 19:43Do what is good and you have praise from the same for he is
- 19:46God's minister to you for good but that if you do evil be
- 19:52afraid for he does not bear The Sword in vain.
- 19:54He is God's Minister and Avenger to execute wrath on him who
- 20:00practices evil. We happen to live in a country
- 20:04with representative government where we're invited to
- 20:06participate. Eight and I believe we should
- 20:08participate in what we've been invited to.
- 20:11I believe we should prayerfully walk into the areas of
- 20:14government, the areas of voting and pray, not your conscience,
- 20:19but pray a Biblical vote, pray for a Biblical decision.
- 20:24You know, your conscience isn't always reflective of what God's
- 20:27word says. And so take a step and honor God
- 20:30through participant or not everyone around the world can
- 20:32participate in their government. Not everyone on the world can
- 20:35have their voice represented Not everyone in the world can step
- 20:40into and speak up and be heard to be listened to however in our
- 20:45representative in our form of government, there will be
- 20:48Seasons when you are unhappy with who was elected.
- 20:51And you will be unhappy with the laws of the land and you will be
- 20:55unhappy with the way things are done.
- 20:58And that too is used by God to make you a better man and a
- 21:04better woman, I think at times are great.
- 21:07It is danger is when things are going exactly the way we want
- 21:11them. I think our greatest dangers, we
- 21:13see it all throughout the scripture, your greatest danger
- 21:16in life is not to be in the midst of a trial.
- 21:19Your greatest danger is to be a surrounded with prosperity to
- 21:23have everything that you've ever wanted to have no resistance,
- 21:27you see the nation of Israel, their greatest difficulties,
- 21:31their greatest times of idolatry, their greatest times
- 21:34of Turning Away From God were in times of great.
- 21:37Prosperity. It was in trials and
- 21:40difficulties that break us and shape us and mold us and I
- 21:46believe in seasons in our lives, whatever your persuasion, maybe
- 21:50there is somebody in office that you don't like that.
- 21:53You don't want that. You don't want you don't you
- 21:56don't want anything to do with them.
- 21:57So that God won't remind you that your trust is not in human
- 22:01government, but in the almighty Sovereign, God and that we are
- 22:05to live for him and participate in every Fear of society as unto
- 22:11the Lord. But ultimately we walk into that
- 22:13voting box ultimately. We step into a school board
- 22:17meetings and what we don't trust the outcome, we trust the god of
- 22:20the outcome, and we live in such a way where our lives honor him
- 22:25and might I just say it again. The reminder just thinks, you
- 22:28know, mind your own business live, a simple life, and love
- 22:32God, with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor
- 22:35with your as yourself. You're not going to go wrong
- 22:38living a life of a god. A pail of even in times of great
- 22:41difficulty and here, God establishes with Noah, the
- 22:44foundation and truly a nation that turns their back on, God,
- 22:48can expect the Judgment of God and we live in such a nation, a
- 22:52government or a governing Authority, that gives lip
- 22:55service to God or is just a full-blown atheist or a
- 22:58hypocrite will experience the Judgment of God.
- 23:02And in those times, when they personally affect us, we cry out
- 23:06to God. I think of, in the times of
- 23:07Judges, where everyone did what was right in their own eyes, and
- 23:12God came to rescue and then they went back into the cycle and God
- 23:16came to rescue and they went right back into the cycle and we
- 23:19see that continuing on through Humanity all around the world
- 23:23even today. You see, you are not without a
- 23:26leader. You are not without a king, you
- 23:29are not without a judge. You have the all Mighty God not
- 23:32only leading and guiding you through his word but dwelling
- 23:35inside of you by his holy spirit, therefore we have no
- 23:40permission or right to do that which is right in our own eyes.
- 23:44But if you choose to do that, which is right in your own eyes,
- 23:49you can expect the consequences of such decisions you seek to
- 23:53take things into your own hands and you can find that great
- 23:57difficulty awaiting you when attacking, I want to show you.
- 24:01One more thing about capital punishment, though when you go
- 24:03over, to Matthew, Chapter 5 to undermine, capital punishment,
- 24:08and perhaps, you have this view yourself, and I commend you to
- 24:11God's word to examine your view, not an You know, not a
- 24:15political, but a Biblical worldview, a Biblical worldview
- 24:20is necessary. And many people will take you to
- 24:23Matthew Chapter 5 in the teachings of Jesus to say, you
- 24:27know, Capital punishments and invention of man.
- 24:29Jesus didn't even believe that. And let me just say before I get
- 24:32to Matthew 8, Jesus affirmed capital punishment, he affirmed
- 24:37capital punishment, being executed in justly and you go
- 24:42ahead. Where do you do that?
- 24:44By hanging on a cross. Willingly.
- 24:48To die for the sins of this room of those in the car and the
- 24:52kitchen on the radio watching online, he affirmed capital
- 24:56punishment by submitting to it. And I'm grateful because it was
- 25:01through his death and resurrection that my life was
- 25:03transformed and yours too, but notice in 5:38 it says, you have
- 25:09heard it said an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, but I
- 25:13tell you not to resist an evil person, but whoever slaps you on
- 25:17the right cheek, turn the other to him.
- 25:19Also, and if anyone wants to sue, you take away your tunic,
- 25:23let him have your cloak. Also and whoever compels you to
- 25:27go one mile, go with him two. Give to him, who ask you and
- 25:31from him, who wants to borrow from you, do not turn away.
- 25:35And they'll take you and go, look, this is this is
- 25:38contradictory Pastor than what you just read in Genesis.
- 25:41But remember The Sermon on the Mount, which is where we are.
- 25:44Matthew 5 is Jesus speaking to his disciples explaining, the
- 25:50true, meaning of the teachings of the day.
- 25:52You'll notice that phrase repeated over and over again.
- 25:54You have heard it said that he's referring to the teachings of
- 25:57the rabbi's of the day and there were many different schools just
- 26:01like, you know, the question comes up, why are there so many
- 26:03denominations, why? Well, because there's so many
- 26:05people, so many leaders and all these different opinions, it's
- 26:09nothing new in the day of That very prominent, rabbis with very
- 26:13contradictory views, it was confusing.
- 26:16The people they didn't know who to listen to, and then Jesus,
- 26:19God in human flesh. Comes and says, I know what
- 26:21you've heard, but I'm telling you the truth.
- 26:24I'm bringing you back to the truth.
- 26:26I want to say to you and these teachings were misinterpreted by
- 26:31the rabbi's. And so, Jesus quotes, to them,
- 26:35Deuteronomy chapter 19, which is also known as The Lex talionis.
- 26:40And what that means is when a crime was a committed, it was
- 26:43necessary to give out a punishment that meets the crime
- 26:48speedily and completely and it was done for two reasons.
- 26:53Number one, it was done to deter future crimes and secondly it
- 26:57was a limitation, it was a merciful, it was a merciful
- 27:01instruction upon Humanity to limit vengeance.
- 27:07Now, any of you that have felt Vengeance, deeply, you may not
- 27:12have used the word Vengeance, but you would use a form of that
- 27:15word and that is any of you that have ever sought Revenge.
- 27:20Maybe even just felt it. Deeply you were wounded and
- 27:24hurt. So deeply that the response that
- 27:27well dip welled up in, you was not merely to hurt the other
- 27:31person. In the same way you were hurt.
- 27:34But rather to hurt the person in the same way you were hurt and a
- 27:38little bit more. Or in some cases a lot more.
- 27:44And in the instructions of the scriptures, it's important to
- 27:49realize that man's nature is to go beyond Justice.
- 27:54Even in our own definitions of Justice.
- 27:56Sometimes we don't have the true jet definition as described by
- 28:01God. And so we can easily lay a
- 28:05heavier burden on the person that committed the crime then
- 28:11was instituted or what the crime deserved.
- 28:16And so capital punishment was instituted from the beginning
- 28:20and even continued on through the Old Testament and the New
- 28:22Testament. What Jesus is teaching here in
- 28:24Matthew is personal, not governmental not the societal
- 28:30laws, but what he's teaching us is how we relate to one another
- 28:34personally. How we relate to one another
- 28:38individually. And so the context, anyone that
- 28:42would compare these, two are comparing as you might have
- 28:44heard apples to oranges. It's not an equal comparison.
- 28:51Jesus, affirms capital punishment in Matthew chapter 26
- 28:55Before Peter, Paul affirms it before Felix and Acts chapter
- 29:0025. And here, no has given it in the
- 29:03establishment. Come back to chapter 9 of
- 29:06Genesis again, then God spoke to Noah and his sons with him
- 29:09saying. And as for me, behold, all
- 29:11establish my Covenant with you and with your descendants after
- 29:15you. And with every living creature,
- 29:17that is with you, the birds, the cattle, every beast of the
- 29:20Earth. With you of all that go out of
- 29:22the Ark, every beast of the earth, I will establish my
- 29:25Covenant with you. Never again, shall All Flesh be
- 29:29cut off By the Waters of the flood.
- 29:31Never again, shall there be a flood to destroy the Earth?
- 29:34And God said, this is the sign of the Covenant which I make
- 29:38between me and you every living creature that is with you for
- 29:42Perpetual Generations. I set my rainbow in the cloud
- 29:48and it shall be for a sign. Sign of the Covenant between me
- 29:53and the Earth and it shall be. When I bring a cloud over the
- 29:56Earth that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud.
- 30:00And I will remember, my Covenant, which is between me
- 30:02and you and every living creature of All Flesh.
- 30:05The water shall never again, become a flood to destroy all
- 30:08the flesh. The rainbow shall be in the
- 30:11cloud. And I will look on it to
- 30:12remember the Everlasting, Covenant between God and every
- 30:16living creature of the flesh, that is on the earth.
- 30:19And God said to Noah, this is The sign of the Covenant, which
- 30:22I have established between me and All Flesh, that is on the
- 30:26earth. This is the very first rainbow
- 30:29in all of history and we're in a time in Colorado where the
- 30:32rainbows are very abundant. And you know, the first thing
- 30:35that happens when you see a rainbow, you look up you look up
- 30:39and although the distance between our culture and the
- 30:42Bible is vast these days, the world still knows the true
- 30:46meaning of the rainbow and immediately get your eyes up in
- 30:49all and wander. As the the the sky declares the
- 30:53glory of God, but it's a sign, the rainbow is a sign of the
- 30:57Perpetual Covenant, that God will not judge the Earth in the
- 31:01same ways. He did during Noah.
- 31:04Which, by the way, can we just speak on a personal level?
- 31:07This must have been very encouraging to Noah.
- 31:11On a personal level, we think high in the areas of theology,
- 31:14but I want you to consider Noah for a moment, all that he's been
- 31:17through all the faith that he's exercise, all that he has seen
- 31:21all that, he has heard now, coming out of the Ark and
- 31:25wondering what will he think? The first time he sees rampant
- 31:29sin again. Well the Judgment come again
- 31:31will the Judgment come again? And almost might even create a
- 31:34fear in him that the next time God speaks to him.
- 31:37It's going to be all over again. And so what is God doing?
- 31:40He says, no, no, no, it's never going to happen again this way.
- 31:45I just love that about God. Speaking a word of encouragement
- 31:47to us. Speaking of word, is we even
- 31:50learning during our time of learning about the gift of
- 31:53Prophecy, just speaking and affirmation of his promise.
- 31:57And then on top of that, giving Noah a reminder in the sky.
- 32:00Every time you saw it, I won't forget, I won't forget.
- 32:03God is faithful. I wonder how many signs are how
- 32:07many scriptures or how many things you have set up in your
- 32:10house. House that will remind you of
- 32:13the faithfulness of God. The goodness of God, we have the
- 32:17rainbow that speaks to all of us.
- 32:21The rainbow is a steady promise of God's faithfulness in his
- 32:25word even today is Psalm 138. The Bible says that God has
- 32:29magnified his word even above his name.
- 32:34Now I recognize and it must be spoken of that today.
- 32:38The thought of the rainbow is mocked.
- 32:42The colors of the rainbow, at least the primary colors and now
- 32:46so many others have been co-opted and corrupted to
- 32:52identify an Ever growing expanding group of people that
- 32:55desire to be defined by their sinful behavior and it's very
- 32:59obvious. We just came out of a month
- 33:01where that becomes, the great emphasis of our culture of our
- 33:05world. But I want you to know that even
- 33:08as some try to co-opt and corrupt, it doesn't Anything
- 33:12away from the promise of God. It doesn't take anything away
- 33:16from his, the rainbow in and of itself is a promise and it's
- 33:21maker stands true. When you see the rainbow,
- 33:24remember, it's a sign and a signal, grabbing our attention,
- 33:29reminding us of the heavens that declare the glory of God.
- 33:34And even in the ways that it's been co-opted and corrupted, it
- 33:38brings a reminder to think of the God who created the rainbow
- 33:42and to pray for those that are hearts.
- 33:44So hard in this season of their life that rather than identify
- 33:48themselves by their maker. They've chosen a whole different
- 33:52pathway. And by the way church, that's
- 33:54not the only pathway of sin in this world.
- 33:57And it's not the only way people have corrupted and co-opted
- 34:00things that God has created. Its the way of rebellion and the
- 34:05ray of resistance. And I can tell you one thing
- 34:08that helps me navigate through a very sinful world, is to
- 34:12remember where I came from. Do you know, it's not too many
- 34:15years ago that I'd lived in Great Rebellion against God?
- 34:19That my heart was hardened toward God, that I was a mocker
- 34:23and a blasphemer. It wasn't too many years ago.
- 34:28And here I am by the grace of God.
- 34:31A lover of God born again. But listen, only by the grace of
- 34:35God, people praying for me, not giving up on me.
- 34:40Wait willing to step into the mess of my own sin willing to
- 34:44overlook my language and my behavior and my all of that went
- 34:48through it. And so Church, remember where
- 34:50you came from. And, and if you were preserved
- 34:52from all this crazy sin in the world today than thank God for
- 34:57that and walk forward in the grace of God, because the enemy
- 35:00is always using things to get you off your game, to get your
- 35:04attention away from the person created in the image of God,
- 35:08because sin can be so repulsive. Especially since it's obvious
- 35:11and telegraphing be so repulsive.
- 35:13And it can be so sickening and could be so difficult.
- 35:16And could be so hard that if you're not careful, your own
- 35:19soft heart, that God's often remember what he promised and
- 35:21Jeremiah the New Covenant, remember the New Covenant, he
- 35:24prophesied it in, Jeremiah. I'm going to take your Heart of
- 35:27Stone and what I'm going to replace it with a heart of
- 35:31Flesh, a soft heart. But haven't you learned some of
- 35:35you could testify to this? That over time, even a soft
- 35:39heart. Can be hard can become hard
- 35:40again because of the world in which we live.
- 35:43Now, as we close up today, I want you to notice In verse 18.
- 35:48Now, now the sons of Noah, who went out of the Ark were Shem
- 35:52ham and japheth ham was the father of Canaan.
- 35:56These three were the sons of Noah.
- 35:58And from these, the whole earth was populated, Now, Noah some
- 36:03time has passed and Noah began to be a farmer and he planted a
- 36:08Vineyard so far, so good. Noah a very good career path to
- 36:14walk into But then verse 21, he drank of the wine and was drunk
- 36:22and became uncovered in. His tent.
- 36:28We Trace our lineage, back to Noah, and his three sons.
- 36:33But even after the flood, and even after the Judgment of God,
- 36:37I want you to notice God wants us to see that was sin was still
- 36:41on the earth. Sin was perpetuated through this
- 36:44family, and sin is still on the Earth.
- 36:48Noah it says be started a career as a farmer.
- 36:53He planted a Vineyard must have been a successful Vineyard
- 36:57because he drank of the wine and was drunk and There's always,
- 37:04you need a jot this down, you need to write it, you need,
- 37:07especially if you have a tendency toward alcohol.
- 37:09You need to write this down. I want you to see the path.
- 37:12There's a couple things you can never miss here.
- 37:15The Bible is clear and I want to be abundantly clear?
- 37:19It is not a sin to drink alcohol.
- 37:23The Bible is equally clear. It is not wise to drink alcohol.
- 37:29It's not wise, you'll King Lemuel to be to take in William.
- 37:34That's not Wise. It's not a sin but there are a
- 37:37lot of things that are not a sin that are not wise.
- 37:40So I want you see the pathway drunkenness, the sin of
- 37:44drunkenness can only happen. One way.
- 37:49After the first drink, it can't happen any other way.
- 37:54It must priest be preceded by the first drink.
- 37:59Now, you don't have to have plant a Vineyard and you don't
- 38:02have to be a farmer, but you do have to take the first drink
- 38:06and, you know, from my own testimony.
- 38:08Till the day. I meet Jesus Christ, I will beg
- 38:11you not to drink. I will bake you.
- 38:15I know it's not a sin. I'm not rewriting the Bible.
- 38:18But it's not wise, it's just not why?
- 38:20It's not a good testimony, it's not a good witness.
- 38:23It's not even necessary with so many other things that are
- 38:27available for you to quench your thirst.
- 38:29It's not even necessary. It just leads to so much
- 38:32difficulty in so much pain and it just it.
- 38:36So you got the pathway with me, so far.
- 38:38Drunkenness, can't happen without the first drink.
- 38:41Now, this is something you need to understand from Noah's life.
- 38:45After drunkenness, the very next word is, and And I'm warning.
- 38:52You listen to me carefully. Anyone young and old there is
- 38:58always an and after drunkenness, they always go together.
- 39:05In this case, drunkenness LED Noah to this weird nakedness
- 39:10from the essence of this word, some perversity, where he
- 39:14becomes shameful before his family.
- 39:18Shameful. While this is the first mention
- 39:22of wine, I want you to note that it's connected with sin.
- 39:28It's not saying drinking was a sin, neither does the rest of
- 39:31the Bible, but the first mention of wine is connected with sin.
- 39:39And this first mention and the first drinking of wine is
- 39:43connected to drunkenness. And drunkenness always has an
- 39:47aunt. Sometimes many ends.
- 39:52Sometimes it ends in absolute disaster.
- 39:56And anyone that's been delivered, from alcohol, anyone
- 39:59that's been delivered from that lifestyle, they will testify to
- 40:03you that they're grateful. And like many of my can't see
- 40:06every, but I could say most like me, they would say they never
- 40:09wish they took the first drink. I was a kid, I remember it.
- 40:13Like it was yesterday. The first drink I ever took
- 40:16about call. It was nothing in insignificant
- 40:19we were just being cool. Kids, graduating Elementary
- 40:21School? Wow, what a great thing super
- 40:23mature to do. I remember like it was
- 40:27yesterday. and I also remember the night that I began my path
- 40:33way of being delivered from alcohol now for 31 years.
- 40:36So that's a better night to remember being born again and
- 40:39being completely delivered. Then it was the first one.
- 40:44I want you to understand with no, even the best of people are
- 40:47taken down by alcohol and drugs even the best.
- 40:50This is Noah The man that found Grace the man that lived
- 40:55obediently, the man who walked with God, the man who the Bible
- 41:00says, was righteous blameless and a preacher of righteousness.
- 41:04He to stumbles and Falls, why? Because man is frail and will
- 41:08falter and everyone sends everyone.
- 41:16Again, drunkenness, is associated here because there is
- 41:19a close relationship between intoxication and iniquity.
- 41:24There is a close relationship between drunkenness and
- 41:28debauchery. Noah becomes naked here.
- 41:33The implication of this, it was perverse or twisted, and here's
- 41:36what happens when a person begins to lose their normal.
- 41:41Faculties through alcohol, inhibitions and restraint or
- 41:45taken away. Really alcohol is so often run
- 41:49to in times of difficulty and tragedy.
- 41:52It's a very popular coping mechanism especially when you're
- 41:56down and discouraged. But alcohol will work against
- 41:59you when you're down and discouraged because technically
- 42:02alcohol is a depressant. And so if you enter in with a
- 42:06depressing difficult situation, it's only going to make things
- 42:09worse. And you think about it, not just
- 42:11make, it doesn't just make things worse.
- 42:13But it takes away all your inhibitions it wears down your
- 42:16Ability to think and and even still in our.
- 42:19In our society, the law still says, Don't drive.
- 42:22While you're drunk, the numbers tend to change, but at least
- 42:25they still agree. There comes a point in time
- 42:28where you shouldn't be operating.
- 42:29A motor vehicle. There comes a point in time
- 42:31where you shouldn't be watching your kids drunk.
- 42:33Where you shouldn't be going to work?
- 42:35You shouldn't be operating heavy machinery.
- 42:37Like, even in our world still against God, they say look
- 42:41there's just things you should stay away from for your own good
- 42:46and for the good of others. And what happens among Believers
- 42:51today is, there's just not a sense of Desiring to live a holy
- 42:54life instead of holding his first Freedom becomes first, but
- 42:59there's no freedom without Holiness, there's no free of
- 43:02Holiness comes first God, by his very nature is Holy and holy
- 43:07doesn't mean like living a perfect life.
- 43:09Remember the word comes to us and the definition of holy means
- 43:13to set apart and God is truly set apart from us.
- 43:16He is God, we're not He is sinless and so when we walk in
- 43:21the Holiness of God we too are set apart from anything that
- 43:24might let make us less useful for the kingdom.
- 43:27Give us less of a witness in a world and whatever culture we
- 43:31might be going into whatever missionary field and Endeavor we
- 43:35would want to stay away from those things that would make us
- 43:37less useful and create a stumbling block between that
- 43:41person and Jesus. And as you step in under the
- 43:48influence violin, nasty things can happen.
- 43:52Drunkenness always comes with an aunt.
- 43:56Please, I beg you. I can make a strong biblical
- 44:01argument and you go I can argue with you too great.
- 44:05I don't want to argue, I won't even take that path.
- 44:07I'm not even interested in arguing with you.
- 44:09I'm just begging. You take it from someone that
- 44:12lived. It you don't need in your life
- 44:14you just don't need it. There's so much more available
- 44:16to you in Christ. There's so much available to
- 44:19you, to be used sober mindedness to have a clear head to look
- 44:24someone in the eye and say, I walk in Freedom and I am I
- 44:27Freedom helps me to say no to things not.
- 44:30Yes. How about all?
- 44:33Look at you? Fuddy-duddy, you call me.
- 44:35Her name's you want, but I'm telling you right now, I'm not
- 44:38ordering a drink across the table from you, because I love
- 44:40you. Because I love you and your
- 44:44family and your kids don't want your kids walking in on, you
- 44:48know, me at Chili's over there and saying look daddy daddy.
- 44:50He drinks and gets drunk just like, you know, I don't know.
- 44:54I don't. Or you have a kid there and they
- 44:57you've grown up in an alcoholic home and you see all these
- 45:00Liberties and go look at but no I don't want you to be reminded
- 45:03of how you were raised and the home you were raised in or the
- 45:06abuse. The you experience.
- 45:08I know it's not a sin, don't misunderstand me.
- 45:11I know, this will go out on the radio and I'm not, I'm not
- 45:14rewriting the Bible, I'm just telling you right now I don't
- 45:16want you to follow in the path of Noah.
- 45:19And how do you avoid what Noah did here.
- 45:21Don't drink at all. Don't drink it.
- 45:23All ask God, to make you more usable.
- 45:26And all of this, all of this. It's the topics because this is
- 45:30where it's here. But let me just add It may not
- 45:34be alcohol for you. It could be something else that
- 45:38you are exercising, freedom, but outside the Holiness of God that
- 45:42creates a stumbling block between you and others.
- 45:45So may not be alcohol at all. It may be something where you
- 45:48step into it. Well, this is not a sin in and
- 45:50of itself but it's going to lead to being under its influence and
- 45:53then it's going to lead to you being a very useless person for
- 45:58the kingdom of God. And in these last days, we need
- 46:01more useful people than useless people.
- 46:04Amen. I mean, that's why you're
- 46:06pressing in, that's why you're growing.
- 46:08That's why you're listening to Christian radio Bible studies,
- 46:11that's why you are saying, God man that hurt.
- 46:14I don't like that guy, and I'm willing to stand and go.
- 46:17You don't need to like me. I want you to love Jesus and
- 46:20he'll lead you and guide you in his word.
- 46:24And there's great Victory. And let me just say this, You're
- 46:28like Ed, you're saying a lot? Yes, let me just say this, let
- 46:31me say this. When you consider The life that
- 46:37some are listening right now that are living in bondage to
- 46:40alcohol thinking they could never get out from under it.
- 46:45They need more testimonies of men and women in Christ that not
- 46:49only have got out from under it, but have lived in Victorious.
- 46:52Sobriety from the day they were delivered.
- 46:55That is a powerful testimony. And just think if you just were
- 46:59one person saying, you know, even some of your testimonies
- 47:02are even more powerful, aren't they?
- 47:03Because you never started King to begin with that's powerful in
- 47:09this world with the peer pressure.
- 47:11The Tha that is a powerful testimony on to the Lord.
- 47:16Well. We got two pages and two
- 47:21minutes. But I need to, I need to draw
- 47:26this out. So let's draw it.
- 47:27Out verse 22, ham. The father of Canaan, saw the
- 47:31nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside, but
- 47:35Shem, and japheth took a garment laid it back on their shoulders
- 47:38and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father,
- 47:41their faces were turned away and they did not see their fathers
- 47:44nakedness. So no awoke from his wine and
- 47:48knew what his younger son had done to him.
- 47:53And he said, cursed, be Canaan, a servant of servants, he shall
- 47:55be to his Brethren and he said, blessed be the Lord, the god of
- 47:58Shem and Canaan be his servant and may God enlarge japheth and
- 48:02me dwell in the tents of Shem. And may Canaan be his servant
- 48:06and Noah lived After the flood. 350 years.
- 48:09So all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years and
- 48:12he died. Okay couple things I forgot.
- 48:14One last thing with drunkenness just in This comes up because
- 48:18the argument is made. Well, you know, if you're in a
- 48:20different culture and it's accepted Lee not culture, you
- 48:23can go ahead and let your guard down and drink with them.
- 48:25Listen, there are alcoholics and every culture.
- 48:28So the word know works just about in every language or no,
- 48:32thank you. And you don't need to
- 48:34participate, no matter what country you're in.
- 48:37You can say no. Do you have anything else?
- 48:39Do you have something else than that?
- 48:41Because you don't know, like, just because something is
- 48:44culturally acceptable, doesn't mean it.
- 48:46From the Lord. And we've just gotten away from
- 48:49a Biblical way of thinking. It was just keep us safe.
- 48:52So I forgot to mention that, but this one's here, I want you to
- 48:55notice the sun's here, because we have an example here in verse
- 48:5922. That ham saw the nakedness of
- 49:02his father. The word saw there.
- 49:03You can Circle it, it means intense gazing.
- 49:07He this didn't glances, he's walking by Dad, he stopped to
- 49:10stare Which itself gives his view of his rebellious nature.
- 49:16It's not just that, but there is something about hams sin here
- 49:20that no Ascend now tempted, his son to send.
- 49:23And now he's sending because sin begets, sin compromise, begets
- 49:30compromise. And so now here, if this would
- 49:33have never happened, at least it wouldn't have come out this way.
- 49:36But here there's a Temptation now to him.
- 49:39And I believe ham was happy as father was out of it.
- 49:42I believe his fault. He was happy to see, you know,
- 49:45could you imagine the time on the Arco righteous dad.
- 49:48Oh, holier than now, dad, and who knows what language it was
- 49:51used. But in the corruptness of his
- 49:53heart, I think him staring at his daddy's happy now.
- 49:56He's got one up, his dad has failed and he can take advantage
- 50:00of it. And notice what he did.
- 50:02He went out and immediately told He immediately told and on the
- 50:08other hand, according to verse 23, when Chemin hat japeth heard
- 50:11about it, they didn't want to see it.
- 50:13They walked backwards to cover up their dad.
- 50:17And this is such a great picture for us in the church because you
- 50:20can be one of two types of people.
- 50:23You can be, I would say there's a lot of hams in the church
- 50:26today. That love to spread the sin of
- 50:29others. They love to talk about the
- 50:31failures of others, exposing others.
- 50:35They like to gaze upon the sins of other and self-righteousness
- 50:38is, if they don't send everyone sends everyone.
- 50:45And they want to make sure everybody knows.
- 50:48And this is the root of the sin of Gossip instead of helping
- 50:51according to Galatians and coming alongside a brother or a
- 50:54sister and helping them up, they would rather expose them.
- 50:57I mean, social media is filled with this.
- 51:01Rhett happy and excited about the sins of others.
- 51:05When the Bible, clearly says we're not to glory in the sins
- 51:07of others. We're too, according to
- 51:09Galatians 6, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you
- 51:13who are spiritual restore, such a one, don't destroy him or kick
- 51:17him when he's down. And so who will you be?
- 51:20Will you be ham? That's a exposing or were you be
- 51:23Shem and japheth who's covering? As Peter said, they're not going
- 51:27to be able to undo the sin or the consequences of the sin, but
- 51:32they don't need to make it worse.
- 51:36That's the body of Christ. That's the True Heart of agape.
- 51:40Love covers not excuses. Love never excuses.
- 51:44Send never ignores it. Never pretend it didn't happen.
- 51:49But we also don't make it worse. We don't choose to make it worse
- 51:54and canaan's heart is revealed and he's judged.
- 51:57And he's cursed. through ham sin, while his brothers would
- 52:01experience blessings with prophetic Insight, Noah speaks
- 52:05of his sons, descendants experiencing separation and
- 52:08rebellion and you Bible students, you recognize most
- 52:11likely as you saw, Canaan, what did it remind leave immediately
- 52:15remind you of one of the arch enemies of the people, God the
- 52:18Canaanites Started right here. And so as we close, I want you
- 52:24to notice verse 28, Noah lived After the flood, 350 years, and
- 52:29all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and he
- 52:32died. And the life of Noah is recorded
- 52:38in the scriptures just ends, so abruptly.
- 52:42No, talk of restoration, no talk of it.
- 52:45Just ended the way it was. All of a sudden.
- 52:50And I just began thinking about how many people I've seen over
- 52:53the years who started out well, but didn't end well.
- 52:57It's why it's been on my heart this week and a few people very
- 53:00close to me. They just have burned.
- 53:02They just don't finish in their waist while they're still alive,
- 53:04so they can get up and run again, that's my hope.
- 53:08But they're captured under the deceit of their own decisions
- 53:10and influence, and all kinds of things.
- 53:13I think of people in this own and our own church family over
- 53:16the years who started out so strong and so bold and were so
- 53:20effective, they're not even walking with the Lord anymore.
- 53:24Some of them and took an anti-god position.
- 53:27Some of them identify themselves as full-blown atheists now, I
- 53:31mean, they served in prayed here baptized us with us and the
- 53:34reservoir. I mean, they were entrusted with
- 53:36people with care under in this church and while God is gracious
- 53:40to us, they just haven't made it.
- 53:43They stumbled hard and Noah so strong in the beginning, his de
- 53:48final description. Drank drunk, naked.
- 53:54And the one of his kids. Decides to exploit him.
- 54:01And so as we close sin, will rob you and steal from us.
- 54:04Just remember sin will destroy the wages of sin is always
- 54:08death. He can't get around it.
- 54:09I can't get around it. Gift of God is eternal life, but
- 54:14sin is destructive harmful, and it's God's will that you stay
- 54:18away from it. Amen.
- 54:20Well, what a challenging chapter tonight, but I know that you use
- 54:24it so that we might grow in our understanding of your heart for
- 54:27us, And even among all the Liberties and freedoms that we
- 54:31have, God give us wisdom how to use them. under the cloak of not
- 54:36hiding things, but under the cloak of holiness, that we might
- 54:41ask you for direction that we might ask you how to exercise
- 54:46our liberties and even if we're the odd man out, even if we're
- 54:50the odd woman out, even if we get made fun of even if we get
- 54:53excluded or whatever, that we would make our decisions, not
- 54:58even from the passionate plea of a pastor but from the passionate
- 55:01plea of a savior We might live, holy and righteous lives.
- 55:07Depending upon you, living in the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 55:13And help us God not to be gossips and slanderers.
- 55:16But rather to cover in to help and to restore.
- 55:20In Jesus name, amen. We pray that you've been
