- 0:01Speaker 1: I cannot believe what I just heard. I mean, I'm
- 0:08Speaker 1: sitting here listening to the news at 3 o'clock, and
- 0:11Speaker 1: I can't believe what I heard. And I find it
- 0:19Speaker 1: deeply disturbing and troubling. Were you paying attention to the
- 0:26Speaker 1: news at 3? Were you listening? So I'm sitting here
- 0:33Speaker 1: and they're talking about the inflation rate being at over 3%.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And did you hear the sound bites from President Trump?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Did you? Were you paying attention? When they talked about
- 0:53Speaker 1: the inflation rates and costs going up and ask him
- 0:59Speaker 1: a question about it. Did you hear his response? The
- 1:09Speaker 1: only thing I'm focused on is Iran and a nuclear weapon.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I'm not even thinking about any of that. I'm not
- 1:14Speaker 1: even focused on it, not even thinking about it. Did
- 1:19Speaker 1: you hear that statement coming from Trump? I find that
- 1:26Speaker 1: deeply disturbing. I mean, in all seriousness, were you paying
- 1:31Speaker 1: attention at 3 o'clock during that newscast and hear that
- 1:34Speaker 1: statement coming from the president? When they're saying, okay, inflation
- 1:39Speaker 1: went high. It's high at over 3%. Gas prices are high.
- 1:47Speaker 1: So they ask him once again about that. And his
- 1:52Speaker 1: reaction is, I'm not even paying attention to that. The
- 1:54Speaker 1: only thing I'm concerned about is Iran getting a nuclear weapon.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That was his reaction. Basically what he said. How's that
- 2:04Speaker 1: make you feel? How does that make you feel? As
- 2:12Speaker 1: a Trump voter, I find it deeply disturbing. I want
- 2:19Speaker 1: to say you sure as hell should be concerned about
- 2:21Speaker 1: it because you caused it. Here's my reaction to his
- 2:25Speaker 1: comments in that fashion. My answer to that is, you
- 2:29Speaker 1: caused this. You're not paying attention to it. You're not
- 2:33Speaker 1: concerned about it. You created this mess. This isn't Joe Biden.
- 2:40Speaker 1: This is on you. And all of a sudden... When
- 2:46Speaker 1: you would be talking about affordability and inflation when you
- 2:49Speaker 1: were running in America first, all of a sudden, you're
- 2:52Speaker 1: not even thinking about it. You're just thinking about Iran
- 2:55Speaker 1: and a nuclear weapon. And what effect this is having
- 3:00Speaker 1: on each and every one of us. That stunned me.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Absolutely stunned me. It was like, I don't care about that.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I don't care where you are with gas and inflation
- 3:19Speaker 1: and the pressure it's putting on everybody's finances. For that
- 3:24Speaker 1: back burner, all I care about is Iran and the
- 3:26Speaker 1: nuclear weapon. I mean, you heard it, right? I'm not exaggerating.
- 3:30Speaker 1: That's what he said. And that's what I find deeply troubling.
- 3:40Speaker 1: CNBC headline, S & P 500 retreats from record as
- 3:44Speaker 1: tech rally cools off, inflation flares up. Headline on CNBC.
- 3:55Speaker 1: So digging deeper on their site, it's not just Iran
- 4:00Speaker 1: and oil rising. So it's not just Iran and the
- 4:03Speaker 1: cost of oil. Prices are also re-accelerating in other areas.
- 4:13Speaker 1: It's inflation. So it's not just about Iran. It's not
- 4:17Speaker 1: just about oil. It's inflation. Headlines. Traders believe inflation could
- 4:28Speaker 1: near 5% this year. Listen, I'm going to tell each
- 4:34Speaker 1: and every one of you, you better be concerned about this.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I think you can focus on more than one thing
- 4:42Speaker 1: at a time. But you better be concerned about this.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Because your constituents are. So when they're talking about Trump
- 4:56Speaker 1: believes inflation could near 5% this year. Markets raise chances
- 5:03Speaker 1: for a Fed rate hike. Not a cut in interest rates,
- 5:08Speaker 1: but a hike following hot inflation reports. In my opinion,
- 5:16Speaker 1: not making this up from the financial pages. And don't
- 5:23Speaker 1: come on at 3 o'clock, presidents, and tell me you're
- 5:26Speaker 1: not paying attention to it. You damn well better be
- 5:28Speaker 1: paying attention. I say as a Trump voter, not once,
- 5:31Speaker 1: not twice, but three times. And as I like to emphasize,
- 5:36Speaker 1: make no mistake, I wouldn't vote for Biden or Kamala
- 5:40Speaker 1: or Sherrod Brown or any Democrats. They're a disaster. They're
- 5:45Speaker 1: an absolute disaster. So I'm not so stupid that I'd say, oh, well,
- 5:48Speaker 1: that means I'm going to vote for the Democrat. That's
- 5:50Speaker 1: not going to happen. But I sure am disappointed in
- 5:56Speaker 1: that response to what is a significant problem for a
- 6:00Speaker 1: growing number of our constituents here. The problem being the
- 6:07Speaker 1: cost of living. The cost of living. That is the
- 6:20Speaker 1: big problem. That is the huge problem. The cost of living.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So now we're not just talking about what it costs
- 6:31Speaker 1: for a gallon of gas. Now we're talking about overall inflation.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Now we're talking about a rate hike from the feds.
- 6:44Speaker 1: This is not good news. Markets, Dow is up 80.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Everything else is in the red. Bad day for your 401k.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Bad day for your IRA. Bad day for your investments.
- 7:00Speaker 1: This is... and should be the primary concern of the
- 7:05Speaker 1: White House. Because they're going to live or die on this.
- 7:13Speaker 1: If they don't do something about this, the midterms will
- 7:16Speaker 1: be lost. Because it is the economy stupid. Every time
- 7:23Speaker 1: you get away from that, you're reminded of that after
- 7:27Speaker 1: an election. It is the economy stupid. And when people
- 7:31Speaker 1: are seeing their lifestyle decline and are concerned about surviving
- 7:37Speaker 1: and affording things, that's of concern. And to give a
- 7:47Speaker 1: quote like that, I'm not focused on that. Well, you
- 7:50Speaker 1: sure as hell should be. You were elected on affordability.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And right now you're not making it better. You're making
- 7:58Speaker 1: it worse. Comments, please. It might not be what he
- 8:10Speaker 1: wants to hear, but that is the reality out there.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And a hell of a lot more people are going
- 8:16Speaker 1: to be concerned with what's happening to their wallets and
- 8:20Speaker 1: cost and lifestyle than they are about Iran and a
- 8:27Speaker 1: nuclear weapon. I doubt that too many of you were
- 8:36Speaker 1: staying up at night before this started scared of Iran
- 8:40Speaker 1: with a nuclear weapon. I seriously doubt it. You might
- 8:43Speaker 1: act like you are now because you've been fed some
- 8:46Speaker 1: of this from the media, but you weren't on top
- 8:49Speaker 1: of this before this situation took place. You weren't concerned
- 8:54Speaker 1: about Iran and a nuclear weapon until they told you
- 8:59Speaker 1: and they started focusing on why you should be. or
- 9:04Speaker 1: thinking you should be, or trying to convince you you
- 9:07Speaker 1: should be. And I repeat, once again, the majority of
- 9:09Speaker 1: people in this country are not on board with this.
- 9:18Speaker 1: But the majority of people are under attack when it
- 9:25Speaker 1: comes to these economic numbers. All right, let's see if
- 9:30Speaker 1: we can start out with some interesting comments. You're on
- 9:33Speaker 1: the air.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Hey, yeah, good afternoon. Well, you said it right. I
- 9:40Speaker 2: heard it, too. I couldn't believe it. My jaw dropped.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So did mine.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Yeah, well, it..
- 9:47Speaker 1: I couldn't believe it.
- 9:48Speaker 2: How is it our gas prices are so high? All
- 9:51Speaker 2: the countries throughout the world, except for maybe Canada, they're
- 9:54Speaker 2: paying double the amount that we're paying for our price
- 9:57Speaker 2: per gallon, almost three times as much. $ 12 a gallon.
- 10:02Speaker 2: But it was all the soil from Venezuela. How come
- 10:05Speaker 2: we aren't doing that? But mark my words. Mark my words.
- 10:12Speaker 2: At the end of the year, when the taxes are
- 10:16Speaker 2: done and put in, you are going to see that these...
- 10:21Speaker 2: corporations that make the gas and everything else, they are
- 10:25Speaker 2: going to have a record-breaking year of almost trillion dollars
- 10:30Speaker 2: in making money.
- 10:32Speaker 1: I totally agree with that. I completely agree with that statement.
- 10:35Speaker 1: You're saying the oil companies will have record-breaking years, and
- 10:39Speaker 1: I agree with that.
- 10:41Speaker 2: The thing of it is, is Europe's already looking at
- 10:43Speaker 2: the Shell Corporation and BP because they're already showing it
- 10:50Speaker 2: on how much money they're making. So they're talking about
- 10:54Speaker 2: taxing the windfall tax. I wouldn't call it a windfall tax.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Hell no, I'd call it what it is, a tax
- 11:02Speaker 2: for gouging the people of the world. That's what I
- 11:08Speaker 2: would call it.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you heard the comments as I did,
- 11:12Speaker 1: because you have to pay attention to it, and I
- 11:16Speaker 1: was absolutely stunned. By that comment. And my reaction is,
- 11:22Speaker 1: you sure as hell should be concerned about it, because
- 11:25Speaker 1: I got news for you. I am. I'm concerned about it,
- 11:29Speaker 1: because guess what? It affects me.
- 11:32Speaker 2: You're right. It affects us all, doesn't it?
- 11:35Speaker 1: Yes, it does.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Here, I'd like to change it just a little bit.
- 11:40Speaker 2: On the governor race coming up, Dr. Pat, upon looking
- 11:44Speaker 2: at her memoirs or whatever, on how she was, where
- 11:50Speaker 2: she was. And if I understand it correctly, I've only
- 11:53Speaker 2: researched it once. She's a native of Youngstown, Ohio.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Oh, you mean Amy Acton. That is true.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And she also was homeless for a while, worked her
- 12:05Speaker 2: way up. But every time she made a move, when
- 12:10Speaker 2: the COVID epidemic came in, the one man that backed
- 12:15Speaker 2: her was DeWine. One specific statement was, we are going
- 12:21Speaker 2: to follow the sciences of this disease. So she put
- 12:27Speaker 2: it out there. She left because her and her family,
- 12:31Speaker 2: just like Major Taylor Greene, left because she was receiving
- 12:38Speaker 2: life threats against her and her family.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, but let's back up for a second. Where are
- 12:45Speaker 1: you calling out, PA?
- 12:47Speaker 2: No, no, no. Niles, Ohio.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Oh, Niles.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Well, then you were, obviously, you were in Ohio, as
- 12:54Speaker 1: I was when this was going on. It doesn't matter.
- 12:59Speaker 1: She left at a critical time and hightailed it out.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Just bear with me. There isn't an excuse that's acceptable
- 13:07Speaker 1: for me for that. If you think it's difficult being
- 13:11Speaker 1: the state doctor and you can't take that pressure... Well,
- 13:16Speaker 1: wait till you're governor because it's going to be way
- 13:20Speaker 1: more pressure, way more intense, and way more disagreements or
- 13:25Speaker 1: controversy that comes with it. I mean, do you think
- 13:29Speaker 1: that Amy Acton was under more stress than the governor
- 13:34Speaker 1: is or the governor is now? Like when people are
- 13:38Speaker 1: pointing to DeWine right now and saying, well, wait a minute.
- 13:40Speaker 1: What about all this fraud that's happening in Ohio? How
- 13:44Speaker 1: did they get away with it? Why weren't you on
- 13:46Speaker 1: top of it? Why weren't you doing anything? I mean,
- 13:49Speaker 1: it's fair criticism to ask DeWine. I mean, as a Republican,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you can't give him a pass when they're talking about
- 13:55Speaker 1: billions of dollars of fraud in Ohio. And he is
- 14:00Speaker 1: silent about it. I'm not seeing much of a difference
- 14:03Speaker 1: between him and Tampon Tim on this.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Well, you got a point there, but he's a Republican,
- 14:08Speaker 2: and they'll go ahead to hide it. But the thing
- 14:11Speaker 2: that bothers me is when he got nailed for it
- 14:14Speaker 2: the first time, under all those unemployment checks and all
- 14:18Speaker 2: that money given out, his statement was direct. He looked
- 14:23Speaker 2: at everybody and said, you're right, but I was thinking
- 14:28Speaker 2: of the kids.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I get tired of it. Listen, fraud is fraud. I
- 14:33Speaker 1: get tired of it. They're talking about the folks in
- 14:36Speaker 1: Ohio stealing huge sums of Medicaid money. Medicaid makes up
- 14:41Speaker 1: half of the state budget. $ 45 million of a $ 90
- 14:45Speaker 1: million budget, basically, in the state of Ohio. Is it
- 14:50Speaker 1: million or billion? I would think it would be billion.
- 14:53Speaker 1: But anyway, $ 90 billion budget. Or maybe it's a million.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I'll have to check. But half of our state budget
- 15:02Speaker 1: goes to Medicaid. And with fraud, you should be concerned.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Hang on. I'll come right back to you and let
- 15:06Speaker 1: you wrap up in a minute. Youngstown's News, Weather, and
- 15:11Speaker 1: Talk Station, 570 WKBN. All I can say to you,
- 15:15Speaker 1: my friend in Niles, is that Amy Acton is... She
- 15:21Speaker 1: isn't going to lower your taxes. It's not their philosophy.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Democrats will create more handout programs. We can see what
- 15:29Speaker 1: they've done in other states. She is a progressive far-left Democrat.
- 15:33Speaker 1: It doesn't matter to me that her roots are in Youngstown.
- 15:36Speaker 1: She is a far-left progressive Democrat. I don't want to
- 15:38Speaker 1: become a sanctuary state. I don't want to have more
- 15:41Speaker 1: government programs and government handouts. I don't want to see
- 15:44Speaker 1: taxes go up. Now, with that being said, do I
- 15:48Speaker 1: agree with her on, for example, one thing she says
- 15:50Speaker 1: is that we should restore the government funding back to
- 15:55Speaker 1: local governments. I agree with her on that. So I
- 15:58Speaker 1: don't disagree with her on everything. I do agree with
- 16:00Speaker 1: her on that. But I know what her philosophy is,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and her philosophy isn't one that I can vote for.
- 16:06Speaker 1: And I tell you that straightforward, just as I say
- 16:09Speaker 1: I'm deeply disappointed in Mike DeWine and where he stands.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And I think Vivek will be a much better person
- 16:19Speaker 1: at running this state, I think, in the right direction.
- 16:23Speaker 1: that can benefit all of us in Ohio, productive people
- 16:26Speaker 1: in Ohio. I leave you with that. But I'm glad
- 16:28Speaker 1: of one thing. I'm glad you were as stunned sitting
- 16:32Speaker 1: in Niles, Ohio, as I was sitting here in Boardman, Ohio,
- 16:35Speaker 1: when you heard that statement come out of the president's mouth.
- 16:40Speaker 1: That's just unbelievable to me.
- 16:42Speaker 2: To me, yeah, it just shows what his thinking is.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I mean, if you don't want them to have a bomb,
- 16:50Speaker 2: a nuclear bomb, then you need to do, you've got
- 16:54Speaker 2: steps here that are involved. And the one country that's
- 16:57Speaker 2: going to hold it up is Israel.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Well, let's be realistic. The bunker buster had to set
- 17:01Speaker 1: them back. All of this bombing had to set them back.
- 17:05Speaker 1: So I don't know that we know what damage has
- 17:09Speaker 1: been done. I think their idea of getting a bomb
- 17:12Speaker 1: anytime soon is probably out of the equation at this
- 17:16Speaker 1: point in time. So how long do you want to
- 17:19Speaker 1: stay with this? Do you want to stay with it
- 17:22Speaker 1: as you destroy the American economy? And I do mean
- 17:24Speaker 1: destroy it. Put us in a deep recession. Cause unemployment.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Cause inflation. Cause a down market. If that's your choice,
- 17:34Speaker 1: then you'll suffer the consequences as Joe Biden did when
- 17:38Speaker 1: people felt he was totally out of touch in a
- 17:40Speaker 1: Republican sweep with the problems that we're facing each and
- 17:43Speaker 1: every individual American. It's Americans first. Good hearing you. I'm
- 17:48Speaker 1: glad you started things off for me today. Appreciate it.
- 17:51Speaker 2: Well, that's fine. I'm glad to hear I could do
- 17:53Speaker 2: that for you. But the thing that bothers me about
- 17:55Speaker 2: that whole thing in the Middle East is Iran don't care.
- 17:59Speaker 2: We'll go back to moving with camels.
- 18:01Speaker 1: There you go. Yep, I keep hearing a deal's imminent.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I've been hearing it for weeks. Well, where is it?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Now I'm hearing we've got to go back to bombing.
- 18:09Speaker 2: We're not going to get one out of them.
- 18:11Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 18:12Speaker 2: What he wants out of them people. And the first
- 18:14Speaker 2: country that's got to step, that they're going to have
- 18:17Speaker 2: to pull back on, is this country of Israel. You
- 18:21Speaker 2: don't need any nuclear bombs. You remove them nuclear bombs,
- 18:26Speaker 2: Iran may come to the table. And under that, the
- 18:29Speaker 2: United States should say, We need people to come in
- 18:32Speaker 2: and check this. And I would suggest you start with England,
- 18:37Speaker 2: with their people to come in to look for it, France, Germany, China.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Well, Iran's going to argue, listen, we pretty much had
- 18:47Speaker 1: control of the strait before this happened. We're not giving
- 18:50Speaker 1: up control of it now because of the geography of
- 18:53Speaker 1: where it's located. It's located by us.
- 18:58Speaker 2: But most of that oil goes right to China. You
- 19:00Speaker 2: don't even go any other place.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Yep.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Thank you. Appreciate your time.
- 19:05Speaker 2: You have a nice day today.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You too. NewsRadio 570. Let me pause for the headlines.
- 19:11Speaker 1: At 3.30, then I come back and pick up with
- 19:13Speaker 1: more of your calls. Ron Verb from the Kingdom of Mahoning. Yes,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I am. Here until 5.30, then the Guardian Spree Game.
- 19:19Speaker 1: NewsRadio 570.
- 19:20Speaker 2: WKVN.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Ron Verb, NewsRadio 570.
- 19:22Speaker 2: WKVN.
- 19:22Speaker 1: You're on the air.
- 19:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I was just calling back from yesterday to talk
- 19:30Speaker 4: about the Vindicator's editorial May 2nd.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:33Speaker 5: I don't want to talk about that.
- 19:35Speaker 4: But you still want to talk about it.
- 19:36Speaker 6: No, I do.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I do. This was a– I missed this editorial, and
- 19:40Speaker 1: I get the Vindicator. I might even have it here somewhere,
- 19:42Speaker 1: May 2nd. Let's see. What is it today? So 10
- 19:45Speaker 1: days ago, this is what the Vindicator wrote pertinent to
- 19:49Speaker 1: the property tax. Go ahead and read it to us.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Okay, so the title is, Ohio Tax Abolition Campaign Stumbles,
- 19:57Speaker 4: Opposition Grows. From a variety of perspectives, the Axe Ohio
- 20:02Speaker 4: Tax Movement to abolish all local property taxes in Ohio
- 20:05Speaker 4: is going over like a proverbial lead ballooned. Consider, and
- 20:09Speaker 4: then they have three bullet points, it's nearly a year-long
- 20:12Speaker 4: drive to collect its goal of 620,000 ballot access petition
- 20:16Speaker 4: signatures as of last week has fallen woefully short, lacking
- 20:21Speaker 4: 315,000 needed signers. And time is running short for their
- 20:25Speaker 4: submission to state officials to qualify for this fall's ballot.
- 20:29Speaker 4: Their second point, a mushrooming coalition of more than 65
- 20:33Speaker 4: organizations and local governments across the state have united under
- 20:37Speaker 4: the banner of Ohioans to protect public services to aggressively
- 20:42Speaker 4: oppose the proposed voter-initiated state constitutional amendment. Their third point,
- 20:47Speaker 4: property tax reform has jettisoned to priority number one in
- 20:50Speaker 4: the Ohio General Assembly with successful results ever since the
- 20:54Speaker 4: Citizens for Property Tax Reforms campaign in began in early 2025. Okay,
- 20:59Speaker 4: that's Beth Blackmar's group, not Brian Massey's group. So far,
- 21:04Speaker 4: according to State Rep. Dave Thomas, a leader in the
- 21:07Speaker 4: tax relief push, Ohioans will enjoy about $ 3. 8 billion in
- 21:11Speaker 4: property tax reductions over the next three years, thanks to
- 21:15Speaker 4: reforms enacted over this past year. Nonetheless, even though the
- 21:20Speaker 4: abolition movement appears to be grasping for oxygen and the
- 21:24Speaker 4: opposition movement gains more stamina by the day, the future
- 21:28Speaker 4: of stable public services in local communities remains at risk
- 21:33Speaker 4: if ACTS Ohio Tax's principal goal is not taken dead
- 21:36Speaker 4: seriously and not fought vociferously. At a press conference last
- 21:41Speaker 4: week in Kirtland, Ohio, Axe Ohio Tax co-founder Brian Massey
- 21:46Speaker 4: issued an urgent plea for a tsunami of petition signatures
- 21:49Speaker 4: by June 1st and suggested the group may prolong its
- 21:52Speaker 4: petition drive into next year, thereby missing again its goal
- 21:56Speaker 4: of statewide vote this November. The group last year missed
- 22:00Speaker 4: its initial target of November 2025 for ballot placement because
- 22:04Speaker 4: of insufficient signatures. I'm not sure what they're talking about.
- 22:08Speaker 4: From the perspective of Axe Ohio Tax, activating the yellow
- 22:11Speaker 4: caution light would serve its serious, albeit misguided, mission well.
- 22:17Speaker 4: It would lessen the very real risk of their year-long
- 22:19Speaker 4: movement sinking for the lack of sufficient and properly signed
- 22:23Speaker 4: and organized petitions. I don't know where the vindicator gets
- 22:27Speaker 4: that either. From our perspective, the year-long delay would provide
- 22:31Speaker 4: more than ample time to greatly amplify the opposition voice
- 22:34Speaker 4: as well as to complement newly enacted tax reforms with
- 22:38Speaker 4: even more substantive measures to usher in more tax relief,
- 22:42Speaker 4: all of which could render the abolition movement moot. But
- 22:46Speaker 4: as of today, the outcome is far from certain, and
- 22:48Speaker 4: Ohio voters could still conceivably put the kibosh on all
- 22:51Speaker 4: local property tax collections in a statewide vote this fall.
- 22:55Speaker 4: The stakes are clearly too high not to intensify the
- 22:58Speaker 4: anti-tax abolition campaign. Just how high are those stakes? According
- 23:03Speaker 4: to the memo, Ohio Office of Budget and Management Director
- 23:07Speaker 4: Kimberly Mernicks wrote to Governor DeWine earlier this year, Ohio
- 23:11Speaker 4: would need to quadruple or more from 2.75% up to 15%
- 23:16Speaker 4: statewide its income tax to replace local property tax levies. Further,
- 23:21Speaker 4: according to the Ohio Department of Taxation, the state would
- 23:24Speaker 4: have to raise its sales tax up to 18% of
- 23:27Speaker 4: the cost of purchased goods to provide a suitable cushion
- 23:31Speaker 4: to finance local safety services, schools, libraries, and other critical
- 23:36Speaker 4: services currently funded via local property taxes. Oh, so libraries
- 23:41Speaker 4: are critical, right?
- 23:44Speaker 1: Just keep this in mind as everybody's listening to this,
- 23:48Speaker 1: this vindicated editorial. here's my reaction. Well, I guess there's
- 23:52Speaker 1: just no answer. I guess based on what they're saying,
- 23:55Speaker 1: there's just no answer, folks. If we get rid of
- 23:59Speaker 1: property taxes, here's what the sales tax is going to
- 24:01Speaker 1: have to be. Here's what the income tax is going
- 24:03Speaker 1: to have to be. We're not talking anything about cutting anything.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I mean, there's absolutely nothing about, they just want to
- 24:11Speaker 1: reshuffle the chairs on the Titanic. So the whole point
- 24:16Speaker 1: of the article is, as I've said to all of you,
- 24:19Speaker 1: as you're listening to this, and I remind you, they
- 24:22Speaker 1: won't be happy until they have all of your money.
- 24:26Speaker 1: I say it once again. It will never be enough.
- 24:29Speaker 1: They continue to take more. They got a giant increase
- 24:34Speaker 1: with their last re-evaluations. They're not willing to, in Mahoning
- 24:38Speaker 1: and Trumbull counties, give you a small percentage of what
- 24:40Speaker 1: they took from you back with a huge increase. And
- 24:45Speaker 1: you've got a Vindicator editorial basically saying, well, you can't
- 24:48Speaker 1: cut property taxes. Forget all the money the state has.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Forget the $ 45 billion, I guess, that we have. I've
- 25:00Speaker 1: got to clarify that.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Well, the Rainy Day Fund is $ 4 billion.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Yeah, so forget all the money that the state takes.
- 25:07Speaker 1: $ 90 billion to budgets per year. 45 of which goes
- 25:14Speaker 1: just to Medicaid, just to Medicaid. And we're seeing all
- 25:18Speaker 1: the fraud that is taking place in Medicaid. So if
- 25:21Speaker 1: we stop the fraud that DeWine is just dragging his
- 25:25Speaker 1: feet on, that we can say, where was our attorney general?
- 25:28Speaker 1: Where were the people that should be paying attention to this?
- 25:32Speaker 1: Our auditor, the attorney general, why weren't they paying attention
- 25:35Speaker 1: to what was going on? Why wasn't this investigated as
- 25:38Speaker 1: it wasn't in Minnesota? We're talking billions of dollars, billions
- 25:43Speaker 1: of dollars, billions of dollars that could have instead of
- 25:47Speaker 1: gone for Medicaid fraud, could have gone to our schools.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Could have eased the burden on property taxes. Is there
- 25:54Speaker 1: anything in the Vindicator editorial about that? I'm just reminding
- 25:58Speaker 1: you as she reads this.
- 25:59Speaker 4: Here's what I don't like. The paragraph that says, that's
- 26:02Speaker 4: why the organized opposition to the tax movement must grow
- 26:06Speaker 4: and strengthen organizations, local governments, and school districts in the
- 26:10Speaker 4: Mahoning Valley should consider formally supporting OPPS. And here's what
- 26:15Speaker 4: really makes me mad. Individuals should resist the very real
- 26:18Speaker 4: temptation to sign Axe Ohio Tax ballot access petitions.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Don't sign anything. Can you imagine telling people that?
- 26:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Don't sign a petition. Now listen to what they're saying.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Do not sign a petition that says, let's put a
- 26:34Speaker 1: constitutional amendment in front of the public to vote for
- 26:37Speaker 1: or against. This is all about giving people a choice
- 26:42Speaker 1: to vote for it or against it. They're suggesting you
- 26:44Speaker 1: shouldn't even sign for it. You shouldn't even give people
- 26:47Speaker 1: the option. We should continue to let people be ignored
- 26:50Speaker 1: by their county commissioners in our community here. that had
- 26:55Speaker 1: a huge increase that won't give you a portion of that,
- 26:58Speaker 1: of your money back. They don't give a damn what
- 27:01Speaker 1: burden they, they lip the services. Oh, it's tough. They
- 27:05Speaker 1: lip and tell you that they give a damn, but
- 27:07Speaker 1: the talk is cheap. Deeds are precious. They don't make
- 27:09Speaker 1: any cuts to give you your money back. When they,
- 27:13Speaker 1: when they're given that ability, you're getting reevaluated again, as
- 27:17Speaker 1: we speak. So your property taxes will go up again
- 27:21Speaker 1: on your inside millage. And it will go up whatever
- 27:25Speaker 1: the rate of inflation is, but they will go up
- 27:27Speaker 1: again on top of what you're already paying. It will
- 27:31Speaker 1: never be enough. And by God, you shouldn't sign a
- 27:34Speaker 1: petition to do away with property taxes. You should sit
- 27:37Speaker 1: there and take it and let them price your ass
- 27:40Speaker 1: out of your own home. Let you get old and retire,
- 27:43Speaker 1: but not able to afford in your own home. This
- 27:46Speaker 1: is what this is saying. This is what they're doing.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And by God, Dave Thomas, and I'll sit here till
- 27:53Speaker 1: my time is done here, and I'll be bitching about this.
- 27:57Speaker 1: And those of you that disagree with me, You will
- 28:00Speaker 1: come to my understanding. on how you've been betrayed by
- 28:05Speaker 1: these local politicians, you will come to my understanding when
- 28:08Speaker 1: you will see how it is screwing your adult children
- 28:12Speaker 1: and your young children who will be adults, making it
- 28:15Speaker 1: difficult for them to purchase a home because of the
- 28:18Speaker 1: burden of property taxes and making it difficult for you
- 28:22Speaker 1: and your family members to stay in their home as
- 28:26Speaker 1: they retire. We've never seen this before in this country.
- 28:31Speaker 1: And by God, that's what the battle is all about.
- 28:35Speaker 1: And this paper is.
- 28:36Speaker 4: Basically saying this is all going to the children, all
- 28:39Speaker 4: these property taxes for schools, but they're not. The money
- 28:42Speaker 4: is going to pay the cumulative interest that has been
- 28:46Speaker 4: compounding because the school districts have not paid off the
- 28:49Speaker 4: principal of any of the bonds for dozens of years.
- 28:53Speaker 4: That's what's going on. That's illegal. What do we got?
- 28:59Speaker 1: A $ 15 million sports complex that we build in Austintown?
- 29:04Speaker 1: I mean, this is where we're going with your tax
- 29:09Speaker 1: dollars for sports? A fitness center? I mean, we're not
- 29:13Speaker 1: talking about education here. This is ridiculous.
- 29:16Speaker 2: No.
- 29:18Speaker 1: As though there certainly can't be any waste in the
- 29:21Speaker 1: school system. Well, wait a minute. We're not having as
- 29:23Speaker 1: many kids. Enrollment in school systems is down. God forbid
- 29:28Speaker 1: if we do any consolidation or say, well, wait a minute.
- 29:31Speaker 1: We don't have the amount of kids that we've had.
- 29:34Speaker 1: We've got to make cuts because we have less students. Oh,
- 29:38Speaker 1: excuse me, as they say in Youngstown, less scholars. So
- 29:41Speaker 1: we have less of them. So shouldn't the expenses be
- 29:43Speaker 1: coming down?
- 29:46Speaker 4: Well, you can't because you're only paying on interest. It's compounding,
- 29:49Speaker 4: and they're not paying off the principal of any of
- 29:51Speaker 4: these bonds across the country.
- 29:53Speaker 1: This is insanity.
- 29:53Speaker 2: According to Mitch Bexler, yeah.
- 29:55Speaker 1: But that's why I sit here and say– Listen, once again,
- 29:59Speaker 1: I'm saying to all of you, I wish you nothing
- 30:01Speaker 1: but the very best, each and every one of you.
- 30:03Speaker 1: But by God, I sit here and I want you
- 30:05Speaker 1: to understand something. If you don't understand this issue, you will.
- 30:11Speaker 1: You will come to understand it when your children that
- 30:15Speaker 1: are adults have a difficult time buying a home because
- 30:18Speaker 1: of how much their property taxes will be in addition
- 30:21Speaker 1: to the payment, making it more difficult to buy a
- 30:25Speaker 1: home and achieve the American dream, if you will. And
- 30:28Speaker 1: for you as you get older or your parents that
- 30:33Speaker 1: are older to be able to stay in their home
- 30:35Speaker 1: because they've been taxed out of it. We've never had
- 30:38Speaker 1: this in this country before. And by God, you better
- 30:40Speaker 1: stand up and fight it where we are right here
- 30:44Speaker 1: and right now. This is utter bull crap. So it's
- 30:50Speaker 1: got to be thought through, and we've got to make
- 30:51Speaker 1: some changes here. Government can't take care of everybody's problems.
- 30:56Speaker 1: There has to be personal responsibility. I was just reading here.
- 31:00Speaker 1: This was sent to me. I'm going to get into
- 31:03Speaker 1: this later because I ain't got a lot of time.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I'll get into that tomorrow. I got something for you
- 31:07Speaker 1: tomorrow I want you to hear. Call in tomorrow and
- 31:09Speaker 1: I'll tell you about it.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Yeah, well, this paper is nothing but a socialist paper, okay?
- 31:15Speaker 1: I don't know about that.
- 31:15Speaker 4: Just like CNN and MSNBC.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Well, that's their opinion, and I gave you my opinion
- 31:19Speaker 1: about their opinion. And, you know, hey, guess what? You
- 31:23Speaker 1: keep doing what you're doing. God bless you and all
- 31:27Speaker 1: your helpers. And folks, I'm telling you right now, you'll
- 31:32Speaker 1: all come around to understanding what I'm saying to you.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Even if you disagree with me now, you will come
- 31:37Speaker 1: around to it. I cannot tell you the emails I
- 31:40Speaker 1: get from people that used to think I was full
- 31:42Speaker 1: of crap and nonsense. But then when their house is
- 31:47Speaker 1: paid off and all of a sudden they now understand
- 31:50Speaker 1: what their property taxes are because it was in their
- 31:53Speaker 1: payment and they put it in escrow. Then I get
- 31:56Speaker 1: the emails. Hey, I never knew that my property taxes
- 31:59Speaker 1: were this much per month. I get what you're saying now. Well,
- 32:02Speaker 1: a little late. Pay attention. All right.
- 32:05Speaker 2: I got it.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Okay.
- 32:07Speaker 1: All right. It just, that's why I say to you guys,
- 32:18Speaker 1: they won't be happy till they have all of your money.
- 32:23Speaker 1: That's why I'm glad Christine Oliver won. Because her two
- 32:29Speaker 1: important points were, A, doubling the homestead exemption, income base
- 32:36Speaker 1: for our poorest seniors, and doubling the owner occupancy. Each
- 32:41Speaker 1: and every one of you, I don't care if you're
- 32:42Speaker 1: a Republican or Democrat, by God, you deserve it. You've
- 32:45Speaker 1: been abused long enough, and you deserve to keep some
- 32:48Speaker 1: of your money back from that huge increase. And these
- 32:51Speaker 1: politicians that say, we're not going to do it because
- 32:53Speaker 1: the state isn't going to reimburse us, you've still got
- 32:56Speaker 1: a giant increase, for God's sakes. And you'll still have
- 32:59Speaker 1: more money. You're still ahead of the game, even with
- 33:03Speaker 1: giving your constituents, if you give a damn about it,
- 33:06Speaker 1: a small portion of their money back. For the love
- 33:09Speaker 1: of God, you're on the air.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Hi, Rod.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I'm not worried.
- 33:15Speaker 6: I'm not concerned.
- 33:16Speaker 2: This is... I truly believe that it's more important that
- 33:22Speaker 2: we worry about the.
- 33:22Speaker 3: War than we worry about you paying for gas or
- 33:25Speaker 3: you being uncomfortable.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I think that you guys are all overreacting. I really
- 33:30Speaker 2: believe that you're overreacting.
- 33:32Speaker 1: You know that, right? Wait a minute, folks. Don't say
- 33:36Speaker 1: another word. No, no, no, no, no, no. Don't say
- 33:38Speaker 1: another word. Listen to me. Just leave it right there
- 33:42Speaker 1: for now, okay? Seriously.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Are you going to hang up on me?
- 33:48Speaker 1: Okay, thank you, Mike. J.J. the liberal. Doing his best
- 33:55Speaker 1: to do his Trump impression. Leave it right there. A
- 33:59Speaker 1: great Trump impression that I just heard at 3 o'clock.
- 34:03Speaker 1: All right.
- 34:07Speaker 2: J.J.
- 34:07Speaker 1: The liberal. You're on the air.
- 34:10Speaker 6: Okay, let me respond to J.J., saying that the markets
- 34:17Speaker 6: are overreacting.
- 34:18Speaker 1: No, no, he was being sarcastic.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 6: Well, George Soros once said, forget the efficient markets hypothesis.
- 34:28Speaker 6: He said, that's a bunch of nonsense. He said, first
- 34:32Speaker 6: the markets underreact to news, then they overreact later.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Well, I don't.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Care what Soros says. Or these people are saying, I'm saying,
- 34:41Speaker 1: did you hear it at 3 o'clock? Did you hear
- 34:43Speaker 1: the president's comments at 3 o'clock when he said in
- 34:47Speaker 1: my newscast here, on top of the hour, he said
- 34:51Speaker 1: when they announced inflation was over 3% and gas prices
- 34:57Speaker 1: and the effect it was having on consumers, and he said,
- 35:01Speaker 1: I'm not even focused on that. All I'm thinking about
- 35:04Speaker 1: is Iran and a nuclear weapon. I'm not even remotely
- 35:06Speaker 1: focused on that. Like, he didn't even give a damn
- 35:09Speaker 1: about it.
- 35:10Speaker 6: No, I didn't hear that until I tuned into your show,
- 35:14Speaker 6: because I've been busy analyzing Chinese stocks since Friday.
- 35:22Speaker 2: All right.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I don't want to talk about China. I'm sick of
- 35:24Speaker 1: you and the Chinese stocks.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Wait, wait, run.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:28Speaker 6: I think you may have made a mistake. Did Trump say...
- 35:32Speaker 6: that inflation hit 3% because I'm reading front page financial
- 35:38Speaker 6: news and it is saying that NASDAQ down sharply in
- 35:44Speaker 6: final hour after inflation hits 3-year high, not 3%.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Yeah, well, the inflation's at 3%, and it is a
- 35:55Speaker 1: 3-year high, whatever it was, 3% or something. Traders believe
- 35:59Speaker 1: inflation could near 5% this year. Now, it's Now, it's
- 36:03Speaker 1: over 3% currently, and it's at a high over the
- 36:07Speaker 1: highest it's been like in three years, they were saying
- 36:09Speaker 1: on that newscast. They asked Trump what he thought about it,
- 36:15Speaker 1: and Trump's comments were, I'm not even focused about it.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I'm not even thinking about it. All I'm thinking about
- 36:21Speaker 1: is Iran and a nuclear weapon. And I sat here,
- 36:25Speaker 1: and I said, I can't even believe he would say
- 36:30Speaker 1: something like that. Stand by. Fort Lauderdale, Frank's on the line.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Get back to him. And more of your calls, 330-729-9977.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Radio 570, WKBN. And Ron Furbar, go ahead, Frank.
- 36:45Speaker 6: Okay. I interrupted my day to call because that one
- 36:51Speaker 6: caller made a very good point. The oil companies will
- 36:55Speaker 6: probably have record-breaking profits. Now, I own oil, natural gas,
- 37:00Speaker 6: and clean energy companies, and Warren Buffett owns oil companies.
- 37:06Speaker 6: He owns $ 30 billion in one oil company alone run,
- 37:12Speaker 6: and oil has gone from $ 90 a barrel to $ 102. 50
- 37:14Speaker 6: a barrel today in only one week. And that's a
- 37:18Speaker 6: big price increase. Now, what will happen... when every country
- 37:29Speaker 6: depletes their strategic petroleum reserves. That's what is keeping oil
- 37:36Speaker 6: prices a lot lower than they would be if all
- 37:39Speaker 6: that oil was not made available for the market.
- 37:43Speaker 1: All right, sit tight for me. Just sit tight for me.
- 37:46Speaker 1: All right, and you as well. Back in a minute.
- 37:57Speaker 3: From ABC News, I'm Michelle Franzen. President Trump traveling to
- 38:01Speaker 3: China today telling reporters he's focused on discussing trade deals
- 38:06Speaker 3: with China's leader as well as a ceasefire deal with Iran.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Talks remain stalled on ending the war. The president brushing
- 38:12Speaker 3: off economic pressures in the latest Consumer Price Index showing
- 38:16Speaker 3: inflation has soared to a three-year high. calling those higher
- 38:19Speaker 3: costs on goods and gas temporary for Americans. Here's ABC's
- 38:23Speaker 3: Elizabeth Schulze.
- 38:23Speaker 5: The trend is going really in the wrong direction here.
- 38:26Speaker 5: Across the board, when you look at prices, those higher
- 38:28Speaker 5: fuel costs are translating to higher prices for public transportation,
- 38:33Speaker 5: for airfare. If you look at the airfare index, it's
- 38:35Speaker 5: up about 21% now. in April compared to a year before.
- 38:39Speaker 5: That's why we've seen those ticket prices going up so
- 38:41Speaker 5: much because of jet fuel costs.
- 38:42Speaker 3: The Federal Reserve Bank of New York releasing its data
- 38:45Speaker 3: report showing household debt for Americans reaching an all-time high,
- 38:50Speaker 3: $ 18. 8 trillion, in the first three months of this year.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Eighteen passengers from that Dutch cruise ship hit with the
- 38:56Speaker 3: hantavirus outbreak remain in quarantine at facilities in Nebraska and Georgia.
- 39:00Speaker 3: One person testing positive, another has developed symptoms. Officials say
- 39:04Speaker 3: the majority are asymptomatic. Passenger Jake Rosemarin says he'll stay
- 39:09Speaker 3: in Omaha for the full incubation period.
- 39:12Speaker 1: My plan right now is to stay for the full
- 39:16Speaker 1: 42 days.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I think that is the best decision that's for me
- 39:19Speaker 2: and for my family, and I know that here I'm
- 39:21Speaker 2: in the best care possible.
- 39:23Speaker 3: A federal appeals court in New York agreed to pause
- 39:25Speaker 3: a ruling against President Trump in the E. Jean Carroll
- 39:28Speaker 3: case so he can try to take his case to
- 39:30Speaker 3: the U.S.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Supreme Court.
- 39:31Speaker 3: The appeals court stated its rejection of Trump's attempt to
- 39:34Speaker 3: relitigate his claims in the case where Trump was found
- 39:36Speaker 3: liable for defaming and sexually abusing Carroll. The Senate has
- 39:41Speaker 3: confirmed Kevin Warsh to serve as a member of the
- 39:44Speaker 3: Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Another vote on his nomination
- 39:48Speaker 3: to become the next Fed chair is expected later this week.
- 39:52Speaker 3: You're listening to ABC News.
