Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / Natalie Decker Still Has A Place In NASCAR | Charlie Marlow Show
Transcript
- 0:00What's up everybody? Charlie Marlowe here talking
- 0:02about one of the biggest NASCAR storylines from over the weekend
- 0:05at Dover. NASCAR All Star Weekend happened
- 0:09in the Truck Series. Unfortunately for Natalie
- 0:11Decker, just an awful day on track over the radio, maybe the
- 0:16worst day of her life. I don't know when you take into
- 0:19account all the backlash she's receiving right now with all the
- 0:22shows and podcasts coming out and everybody weighing in in the
- 0:26media on social media and all that.
- 0:29So she's running the Truck Series.
- 0:30What black flagged not making minimum speed.
- 0:35She has just a a really bad incident on the radio calling
- 0:38out the Truck Series. They basically bring her in.
- 0:41She says she never wants to run the Truck Series again.
- 0:44Only wants to run O'Reilly. I've I've I've seen a lot on
- 0:48social media people talking about her.
- 0:50I've seen a lot of the clips of people in the media breaking
- 0:54this down. I saw one from Kevin Harvick who
- 0:56said he doesn't think she should run in any of NASCAR's top three
- 1:00series. I obviously have all the respect
- 1:02in the world for Kevin Harvick, but but I disagree with him on
- 1:05that. So first of all, even though
- 1:09Natalie Decker right now is at the the lowest of her lows,
- 1:12let's take the whole body of work into account here.
- 1:16I believe her first year in one of the top three series was
- 1:192019. Correct me if I'm wrong and I'm
- 1:21looking at her stats and looking at her races and look Truck
- 1:25Series probably not the place for her right now, maybe ever.
- 1:29She said that herself on the radio even though emotions were
- 1:33running high. But go back to 2020, she
- 1:37finishes 5th in a Truck Series race and I believe that's the
- 1:41the highest finish ever by a woman.
- 1:44Again, correct me if I'm wrong if I missed somebody since, but
- 1:46that was 2020 and then go to the O'Reilly Series 2024, correct?
- 1:53She finishes 18th at Daytona. So my point here is I understand
- 1:59a lot of people are saying that Natalie Decker should be done
- 2:02with NASCAR and I just I don't agree with that.
- 2:06She, she is a racer. There is a place for her.
- 2:10I feel like if she's comfortable now, maybe after what happened
- 2:13over the weekend, maybe she's done.
- 2:14I I have no idea. I don't want to speak for her,
- 2:18but I do think she's had enough success at superspeedways.
- 2:22And I understand there's a lot of variance at superspeedways,
- 2:25but when I mentioned the 5th place in the trucks going back,
- 2:27that's six years ago. And the 18th place, which hey,
- 2:30look, 18th is 18th. It's it's middle of the pack,
- 2:34but it's respectable. That was the O'Reilly series.
- 2:37And we all, we all know too, at Talladega Daytona, you can have
- 2:41big wrecks and drivers can kind of squirt through there and you
- 2:45can have a better finish. We, we all know that.
- 2:47My, my point is, I know she's had some bad incidents, but I
- 2:52feel like if Natalie Decker moving forward wants to continue
- 2:56to run O'Reilly series races, limited schedule at a Daytona
- 3:01Talladega, I feel like that's OK for her.
- 3:05This all gets into the NASCAR approval process.
- 3:07Also, we've talked about this with a lot of people.
- 3:09I mean, Mike Wallace couple years ago wanting to run the
- 3:12Daytona 500. He wasn't approved.
- 3:14We've talked about this with Garrett Mitchell, with Cletus
- 3:17MacFarlane. This is also on NASCAR too.
- 3:20I mean, I do think the debate over these things, it's good for
- 3:25NASCAR, maybe not the greatest for Natalie Decker and Natalie
- 3:28Decker's mental health because obviously she's taking a beating
- 3:31on social media. But look, my, my whole thing is
- 3:35this also, OK, I think Natalie Decker is also good for the
- 3:41sport, even if you disagree with her, even if you disagree with
- 3:45her racing in NASCAR. And I have followed NASCAR full
- 3:50time every day for five years. But I know it's not a long time,
- 3:54but I covered a ton of NASCAR races at Michigan in 2006, 2007,
- 3:59two Cup races a year. We covered NASCAR all the time.
- 4:01And like I said, since I've been working with Kenny Wallace the
- 4:04last five NASCAR season seasons, I'm paying attention to every
- 4:08single race. NASCAR week in, week out lack
- 4:12storylines. They do.
- 4:14They lack interesting things happening.
- 4:17Whether you like Natalie Decker or not, whether you think she'd
- 4:21be, she should be racing or not, she has a storyline almost each
- 4:26and every time she races. And, and maybe it's not for good
- 4:29reasons. And I understand that and
- 4:31there's some controversy with the picture she was taking with
- 4:34Bert Kreischer earlier in the year and her social media.
- 4:38I have no problem. I had no problem with the Bert
- 4:40Kreischer pictures. If you know Bert Kreischer, he
- 4:41takes his shirt off. She was doing a thing for her
- 4:44sponsors and it was an interview.
- 4:46It wasn't like she was doing it, you know, during the race.
- 4:48It was with her fire suit taking it down.
- 4:51I know people talked about that. That didn't bother me.
- 4:54And also, I just look at this, I look at this on a human level
- 4:58and it's funny. I I said, I said basically some
- 5:01some neutral comments the last time during the Bert Kreischer
- 5:05thing. And you get these people on
- 5:07social media, they're like, oh, you're simping.
- 5:09You're simping for Natalie Decker.
- 5:10Oh, she's not going to sleep with you, bro.
- 5:12Like that's, that's the kind of comments you get on social
- 5:15media. Just so you know, I'm almost 44
- 5:18years old, happily married. I have an 8 year old daughter
- 5:21and look with a, with a young lady.
- 5:25I know Natalie Decker's, what is she pushing 30?
- 5:26I don't know. But I look at, I look at
- 5:29situations like this through the lens of my daughter and I, I do
- 5:32feel bad for Natalie Decker and I do have empathy for Natalie
- 5:35Decker, even if look, she's brought some of this on herself
- 5:39and even if she's in a, a series or running right now in a series
- 5:43where she's over her head. I, I think that's, that's all
- 5:47fair. That's all fair to critique.
- 5:50And I look, there's always going to be the deepest, darkest
- 5:54depths of the Internet. They're the worst people in the
- 5:56world. They're the worst people in the
- 5:58world. They're going to be the meanest
- 6:00people they're going to be. And look, I'm not even bringing
- 6:02sexism into this, but they're going to be just the worst of
- 6:05the worst in terms of sexism and misogyny and all that.
- 6:09And, and again, I think there's absolutely fair criticism for
- 6:13Natalie Decker. I'm not going to crap on this
- 6:16girl at her absolute lowest, all right?
- 6:20And that's what I'm saying. I'm not just saying this.
- 6:21I'm not, I'm not simping for Natalie Decker when I say I
- 6:24think she has a place she can still run if she wants to run
- 6:27Talladega and Daytona in the in the O'Reilly Series, I think
- 6:33there's a place for her there if she's comfortable.
- 6:36You know, I don't know. I don't know what she wants to
- 6:38do moving forward. Everybody in the NASCAR world is
- 6:40talking about Natalie Decker. And again, right now that's a
- 6:43bad thing for her. But big picture, every time she
- 6:47runs, she's a storyline that everybody's talking about Now.
- 6:51I don't want her just getting beat up, beat up all the time.
- 6:55But again, NASCAR week in, week out, LAX storylines.
- 7:00Natalie Decker is an interesting character in the NASCAR world.
- 7:05Whether you like her or not, whether you like what I just
- 7:07said or not, it's it's absolutely true.
- 7:09And again, I don't I don't want her always to be just getting
- 7:12picked on. I don't want her always reckon.
- 7:14I don't want it always to be negative.
- 7:15But it's just it's a fact of the matter.
- 7:18Every time she races, she's a main topic of conversation.
- 7:21And it's been negative this year after each and every race.
- 7:25And there's there's a lot of boring NASCAR weekends.
- 7:28Let's be real, this car isn't super interesting.
- 7:32There's some races that just you got a winner and then the next
- 7:35week it's kind of crickets what you're talking about.
- 7:39So thank you for watching. If you're in Saint Louis, please
- 7:42take care of my Saint Louis area sponsors, Triad Bank, Triad
- 7:46banking.com. Best thing I ever did for my
- 7:48rental property business. Taking all my commercial loans
- 7:50from a big National Bank that didn't care about me to a local
- 7:53bank in Frontenac. Triad Bank, my guy Matthew

- 7:59ever got in the banking world. Saint Louis lawn care, Saint
- 8:02Louis equipment, stllawncare.com they'll cut your grass, mulch,
- 8:06landscaping. I got some Arbor Vita, juniper,
- 8:09boxwoods. They'll trim your boxwoods.
- 8:12My guy Tim Jenkerson, he also has Saint Louis equipment.
- 8:15That's stlmowerrepair.com. What are they got?
- 8:174 locations. Buy a mower, get a mower
- 8:20repaired. Small engine stuff.
- 8:22I got a trimmer there. I got a blower.
- 8:24The blowers. What Husqvarna?
- 8:27Love that thing. They got it all.
- 8:29STL equipment, that's Saint Louis equipment,
- 8:31stlmowerrepair.com and my newest sponsor, getaway carts and Sou
- 8:35Lard getaway carts right down there in beautiful Sou Lard golf
- 8:39carts. Got this Mad Jack's Ascent golf
- 8:43cart just last week. My kids, we surprised them with
- 8:45it on Saturday. They love it.
- 8:47Then goes 2425 mph. Should be on a NASCAR track,
- 8:51don't you think? It's got the lights, it's got
- 8:53the Bluetooth, It's just awesome.
- 8:55Love that thing. If you talk to my guy Joe at
- 8:58getawaycartsgetawaycarts.com, tell him Charlie Marlowe sent
- 9:01you and he will hook you up. So there you go.
- 9:05I think I covered it all. Natalie Decker.
- 9:08She's having the worst week of her life, probably.
- 9:10I'm not going to pile on, but a lot of the criticism is fair.
- 9:14I don't think she should be done with NASCAR.
- 9:17I think an O'Reilly schedule with the superspeedways is cool.
- 9:21And by the way, I was about ready to wrap up and I forgot
- 9:23about this. This is why I should write
- 9:25things down. I wanted to talk about this
- 9:27before and I forgot Arca. She may think she's too too big
- 9:32for Arca right now, but here's the thing.
- 9:34Arca's back baby Cletus. Let's be real, Cletus has
- 9:37brought Arca back. Arca is not just oh the the 4th
- 9:41series anymore. There's a lot of eyeballs on
- 9:44Arca because of Cletus, McFarlane, and if you look at
- 9:47what Natalie Decker does for her sponsors.
- 9:50Do you think? I know, I know there's less
- 9:51people watching, but there's more now watching Arca than
- 9:54ever. But for what she's doing for her
- 9:56sponsors on social media, do you really think it's that big of a
- 9:59difference if she's racing trucks or O'Reilly versus Arca?
- 10:03Because what she's giving her sponsors also is appearances is
- 10:07all of her social media. I looked at Facebook, she has I
- 10:10think almost 300,000 followers on Facebook.
- 10:13She can post the pictures, she can post the video on Facebook,
- 10:17Instagram X, all that. Whatever she's doing.
- 10:19I don't even know if she's on TikTok.
- 10:20But my point is you can have as much sponsor engagement, I would
- 10:23think almost as much through Arca as you could with the
- 10:27trucks or O'Reilly series based on her social media.
- 10:30And I'm telling you, man, Arca is almost as interesting as
- 10:33anything. If Cletus is in it, you got a
- 10:36lot of storylines with Arca. She can be another storyline
- 10:39Natalie Decker, Ken with Arca and and maybe she goes down
- 10:42there and she's running a lot better and she's running upfront
- 10:46sometimes or or running close at least at least respectable,
- 10:50right. So there you go.
- 10:52I've kind of wrapped this up multiple times, but I think she
- 10:56has a place in NASCAR. It's the worst day of her life,
- 10:59probably the worst week of her life.
- 11:01It's going to get better. I hope she bounces back.
- 11:04I hope her mental health is good.
- 11:06No, I'm not simping for her. I have an 8 year old daughter
- 11:09and that's how I look at these things, to be honest with you.
- 11:12So I don't care what you think. All right, because if that's my
- 11:14daughter, yes, I'm going to say, hey, we need to do some things
- 11:18differently, but I'm also having empathy and sympathy if that's
- 11:20my daughter. So that's how I'd like for
- 11:22somebody else to look at my daughter if she was in the same
- 11:25situation. So there you go.
- 11:26Peace out. Love you all.
- 11:28Try it. Bank Saint Louis lawn care,
- 11:30Saint Louis equipment and getaway carts. getawaycarts.com.
- 11:34See ya.
