- 0:00The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network. Hey lay the
- 0:04cable guy and you're listening to ted God Radio. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:10tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean Weird, and I'm justin.
- 0:15Let me how you guys doing. That's good to see you all.
- 0:17Sean, we have to ask you fatherhood. Second time around, I fall
- 0:23asleep. But yeah, no, it's been great. Right, it's been
- 0:28almost three weeks. Daniel's doing good, Max is doing good, Kale's doing
- 0:32good, family's doing good. We're healthy, nobody's sick. Now we're getting
- 0:37into the springtime. We can get outside and KALs. You know, we
- 0:40took a walk the other day and it's just it's been nice. So we're
- 0:43grateful for healthy babies and just crap all round. So it's been good.
- 0:48That is cool. I've been I've been wondering about that, how everything was
- 0:51going. And you know, because this is also kind of an amplified work
- 0:55schedule for you at this point because sports kind of kicking up right, so
- 0:59so Springs sports are happening right now on the campus of nor Dame. We're
- 1:03also hosting the first round of the NCAA women's basketball tournament. Oh wow.
- 1:07So on top of that, we also today today we recorded the show.
- 1:12We did our NFL Pro Day show for NBC on NBC at Peacock. It
- 1:18was a very busy day for me today, so I'm kind of just amped
- 1:21up, like I should be asleep, but I've kind of been go,
- 1:23go, go go all day. So you guys were like, let's record.
- 1:26I was like, sure, let's do it. Let's just get it
- 1:30done. Let's get it. Well, we were going to try it.
- 1:33We were going to try and do it yesterday and Justin, I know your
- 1:37your mom's visiting, which is pretty cool. So we were going to try
- 1:40and do it yesterday with me and Sean, and then Sean is like he
- 1:42texted me, he goes, dude, I'm about to fall asleep. Yeah.
- 1:49Yeah, no, I'm glad I've mentioned it. I was like,
- 1:51hey, you know, if you guys are ready, now let's go.
- 1:53Yeah. You had a pretty exciting day to day too, Justin, because
- 1:56well it's something that I'm looking forward to. We're actually good beginning in southern
- 2:00Arizona and now you went to one and Sean, I guess is a big
- 2:04fan because he actually bought their plushy. Yeah, oh no, trust me,
- 2:07we we did too. Uh yeah. We actually, with my mom
- 2:10being in town and and Mysa being off, my myself off as well,
- 2:15we we went up to Johnstown, Colorado, which is pretty much Fort Collins.
- 2:20It's like a forty five minute drive north of here. We went to
- 2:23the first Colorado BUCkies. Ah. And for those of you who don't know,
- 2:29BUCkies is just like a giant gas station. It's not a truck stop.
- 2:34They do not allow semi trucks there, but it is. It's a
- 2:37giant gas station slash market, slash home goods store. People have a convenience
- 2:45store. People have actually called it the Walmart of gas stations. I mean
- 2:49it's enormous, right Easily, we went up there and we were still five
- 2:54miles away from it, and I could see the building. Whoa, I
- 2:59could, I could see it, that's how big it was. And so
- 3:00once we got up there, yeah, it's insane. I mean, they've
- 3:02got here. I'm pull up the stats right now. It is a seventy
- 3:07four thousand square foot building fronted by one hundred and sixteen fuel pumps. It
- 3:13employs over two hundred and seventy five staff members to keep the place going twenty
- 3:17four to seven. What wow. It's known for some things. Yeah,
- 3:23all right, Like, well what is it known for. Well, I
- 3:24mean obviously with a beef jerkey. Oh my god, I got a bag
- 3:28of beef jerkey. It was amazing. No, they are known for mostly
- 3:31because they're massive. They're also known for their fresh food station. I mean
- 3:37it's literally like a cafeteria. Constantly they have this massive kitchen in the back
- 3:42and they're bringing out fresh brisket, like smoked brisket sandwiches, fried chicken sandwiches,
- 3:47turkey shredded turkey sandwiches, and they always have this like weird chant like
- 3:52when they bring fresh brisket out right, they're like fresh brisket all on the
- 3:55butt and everybody, like every employee in the place, we'll say it,
- 4:00you know. And the bathrooms. They're also known for having exceptionally clean bathrooms.
- 4:06And I will tell you, oh my god. I mean you ever
- 4:10been in one of like those fancy restaurants where there's like an attendant who's like
- 4:13standing next to you and like will hand you like a paper towel and ya
- 4:16you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, it wasn't quite like that,
- 4:18but like, first off, every urinal is surrounded by like there's there's no
- 4:25jut out of a jut out wall pony wall that sticks out, so like
- 4:29you're never like right next to somebody. And then every toilet is in its
- 4:32own private room like they had, like like every stall is like a handicapped
- 4:36stall, but it's like it's not just like a bunch of partitions put up.
- 4:40It is like built into a wall. And there's a light above the
- 4:45door. If the door's locked, it's red, if it's open, it's
- 4:46green. And so you know what stalls are available where. And then I
- 4:51went, I went and I did number one. Well thank you, and
- 4:58well no, no, no, it's for it's you. You'll understand.
- 5:00Right the moment I turn around, there's an employee scrubbing out the urinal.
- 5:04Are you kidding me? Come on, no really, no, no no
- 5:09I'm not. I was like, well, and they were just like,
- 5:11oh no, you just caught me on the on this go round like but
- 5:14they're literally walking around the entire time, just cleaning, cleaning, cleaning,
- 5:17cleaning, cleaning. That bathroom was immaculate, but again you have all this
- 5:23food like snacks galore, right, that you can. They have fresh fudge,
- 5:28they've got roasted nuts, they've got glazed nuts, they've got don't fresh
- 5:32doughnuts. They've got pastries, they've got brisket sandwiches, fried chicken sandwiches,
- 5:38sausage on a stick, turkey sandwiches, fresh actually cuts. They actually have
- 5:44a butcher count Now, a butcher counter, I shouldn't say that. A
- 5:46deli where like you can go and get if you don't want a sandwich,
- 5:49you can just go get a cup full of brisket, like they have like
- 5:54brisket just laid out there and it was put in a cup and be like
- 5:57here you go, fresh biscuit, brisket. I keep saying biscuit. I
- 6:00don't know why on a brisket. Yeah, but it's like it's it's like
- 6:04a cafeteria. Now. Of course they've got the convenience store section, but
- 6:09the rest of it is like merch. Like I got a sweatshirt and I
- 6:13got a T shirt. You went because I went all out for our listeners
- 6:16that are watching. You got a Bucky sweatshirt, a hoodie, and then
- 6:21underneath it you've got another shirt, Sean shirt. Sean is showing us he
- 6:26got what now, what is that Bucky itself? Yep, yeah, Bucky
- 6:30the Beaver, Bucky the Beaver. And and we got we got too plushies,
- 6:32actually a smaller one and a bigger one. We got a big plushy
- 6:35pillow. We've got a little figurine, which, by the way, I
- 6:40thought was hilarious. Mysa bought a Bucky figurine and put it in the dash
- 6:46of her Tesla. Right now, do you do? You do you guys
- 6:51get the irony behind that? Well? Do they have charge gas station?
- 6:55A gas station mascot in the dash of an electric car? Do they have
- 6:59charging? Yes, they have a fourteen bay Tesla charger. Oh look at
- 7:03that now, Sean. Do they have these in South Bend or out near
- 7:06you? No? I've never been their BUCkies. Oh you can get my
- 7:13mom. My mom is obsessed, really really so my travels to My mom
- 7:18travels to Texas a lot for for her work, and she goes to BUCkies
- 7:23every time she's there and brings Max something back every time. Uh. Max
- 7:28has four BUCkies shirts, BUCkies pants. There was a full adults There was
- 7:38a full adult sized Bucky costume you could buy. I almost I told my
- 7:41mom to get me one next time she was there, so that might happen.
- 7:44But Max will ask for his BUCkies T shirt. He wants, I
- 7:47want my Bucky shirt. Wow. You know, it's funny who Bucky is
- 7:54and it's just it's fun. The first time I ever heard of BUCkies was
- 7:57from Broadway because Broadway was living in Yeah, I lived in Texas for a
- 8:01while and you know, people mentioned Bucky and you think, okay, yeah,
- 8:03it's like a quick trip or a you know, or speedway or even
- 8:07me, I'm really happy we got a Maverick now in Arizona, because in
- 8:11southern Arizona they have them in Flagstaff and Maverick is like, to me,
- 8:16it's you know, I love Circle K's, but they're kind of stepped a
- 8:18little bigger and you know that whole bit. And they got one here.
- 8:24Think about it. An average gas station is what twenty five one hundred square
- 8:28feet three thousand square feet probably about that. Yeah, this was seventy four
- 8:31thousand square feet. It is like the ones. It's an experience, it
- 8:37is. I mean we walked in there, and we walked in there on
- 8:39a Thursday afternoon at three thirty in the afternoon, right and there was at
- 8:45least five hundred people in there. Oh my lord, really, and that
- 8:50was not They said that was their slow time over the weekend when they opened
- 8:54on Sunday, that Sunday, within twenty four hour period Sunday to Monday morning
- 8:58or Monday whenever they open on you know, Sunday, twenty four hours from
- 9:01that, forty five thousand people came from that door. How about coffee,
- 9:05I mean, I'm you know, I'm a coffee huge coffee station. So
- 9:09they've got to have all the different kinds of coffee everything, lattes, cappuccinos,
- 9:13espressos, coffee, about four different types of creamer. And here's the
- 9:18kicker. They don't put the creamer in those stupid little machines you find in
- 9:22the convenience stores. No, no, sir. They have leaders of it
- 9:26that you buy at costco in an ice bin and you just whip out which
- 9:28one you want and you pour it in your cup and put it back on
- 9:31the ice bin. I mean, they've got marshmallows, marshmallows, BUCkies.
- 9:39Well, here's the good news for our listeners that are listening to this.
- 9:41We're hearing justin extoll the virtues of that shun as well, you know,
- 9:46showing his plushy Let's see, that makes me want to buy a gas car
- 9:48again? Makes you want to buy a gas car? I love that,
- 9:54you know what. That's the title of the show right there, makes me
- 9:54want to buy a gas car again? Like that. But we are actually
- 10:00getting one finally, And it was just announced just this past week that there
- 10:03will be a BUCkies in Goodyear, Arizona. Which is so if you're taking
- 10:07I don't know if you did the trip when you lived in San Diego,
- 10:11guys, but if you take the ten between you know, blythe and Phoenix
- 10:16in between, there is like Goodyear, and I mean, as you're leaving
- 10:20city limits, why would they put it way out there. I think they're
- 10:24gonna get people that are going to California and coming from California rather than people
- 10:28that are just in Phoenix. I mean, they know what they're doing.
- 10:31Yeah, I bet you that if it does well, that they'll eventually open
- 10:35one Tucson between two southern Phoenix. I don't even know where the closest BUCkies
- 10:41is to be. I'm gonna look it up, all right, Yeah,
- 10:43google food that after the break. Yeah, it is definitely a crazy experience.
- 10:48So I mean, if you get a chance, it's awesome. I
- 10:50mean it's like you're walking in there. It's like Disneyland in a way.
- 10:54Love that, all right. We got an email in from Steve in Celudita.
- 10:58That's I'm listening to the show and he's got a dilemma that some of
- 11:03us run into. He says, I can't find, for the life of
- 11:05me, find my laptop charger. None of those things disappear, right,
- 11:11You'll usually you know what it is, people leave them where they go to
- 11:13a coffee shop or somewhere and they've plugged in. They actually will leave that
- 11:18and forget that. It's an HP that I bought a couple of years ago,
- 11:22and I'm trying to decide if it's better to go online and buy a
- 11:26replacement. I know you can go on to but you go out Amazon,
- 11:28you can usually find replacements, sometimes there a third party. Sometimes you get
- 11:33HP, he said, or just run to Walmart and get a universal charger
- 11:35that they sell there with those work in this case, absolutely not, No,
- 11:39all right, why would you want to do that? I mean,
- 11:43you think about with a laptop. Yeah, you've got a battery in it,
- 11:46but your charger is your lifeblood. If you screw that up, you're
- 11:50just gonna screw up your whole computer. I mean, do not do that.
- 11:52Do not do a universal charger. What I would do if I were
- 11:56you, Steve, is look up the model number of laptop, find the
- 12:01spec sheet on it. It's gonna tell you what kind of charger comes with
- 12:05it. And it's gonna say it's an HP. It's gonna be an HP.
- 12:07It's gonna say something like five amps at you know, nineteen volts or
- 12:13nineteen volts or something like that. Output or whatever. You know, those
- 12:18are the numbers you want. You need to know what the output of it
- 12:20is. Input is always the same, you know, it's one twenty.
- 12:24That's it's always the same. The output is what matters. Then what you
- 12:28do is you once you find the output, you go and you type in
- 12:31you know, to eBay or whatever like HP charger, you know, and
- 12:35in whatever, maybe the output is nine, you know, nineteen volt or
- 12:39whatever it is. But do not get like a universal one. Get the
- 12:43one that's made for your laptop. And another point, and I don't know
- 12:48if you've run into this before. I've had people that have mentioned stuff when
- 12:52shopping on Amazon. And it's not to knock the Amazon platform, but you
- 12:56really read the reviews. Make sure what you're getting is authentic because it's really
- 13:01easy to slap, you know, a manufacturer label on something. So just
- 13:07make sure you follow through and do you have to do. It's not like
- 13:09the old days you walked into CompUSA or you walked into Fry's Electronics or even
- 13:15Best Buy still and you look to go, Okay, yeah that's what I
- 13:18need and you put it in your cart and you buy it. If you're
- 13:20online, you do have to be really careful about what's being sold. So
- 13:24make sure it's authentic. I mean honestly, when you mentioned about Amazon,
- 13:28I mean it's it's getting to the point now where I'm I would much rather
- 13:31actually shop on eBay again than Amazon anymore because Amazon, there's there's so many
- 13:37scams on Amazon, and then their customer service have gotten terrible. Yeah,
- 13:41and it's almost better, just as a whole has become pretty bad. Yeah,
- 13:46it's really gotten bad. Yeah. You know what is really interesting though,
- 13:50We've just opened here in Green Valley and there open they just opened one
- 13:56yesterday on i know in Thorny to yell if you remember that intersection there justin
- 14:00at the old BOOKMNS that was there a amaz super It's called the super bin
- 14:05Store. And what these are is Amazon returns Amazon. So when Amazon gets
- 14:13their returns, there have been cases where Amazon people have gone to return stuff
- 14:16at Amazon, they've said, you know what, just keep it, and
- 14:20that's happened where they just say, you know, hold on it will give
- 14:24you a refund. They just don't want to deal with having to refund it
- 14:28and bring it all back in. So Amazon Bin Store takes that material,
- 14:33they put it on tables and they say, okay, this day, stuff's
- 14:37fifteen bucks. Yep. The next day it's thirteen. And then it goes
- 14:39all the way down. And people that live here in Green Valley that have
- 14:45been, you know, shopping or have said they've found great deals. I
- 14:48saw a woman with an iPhone fourteen that pick one up on eight dollars day.
- 14:54So you never know, you never know what you're gonna get. Now,
- 14:56there are so from what I understand, bins that are around the wall
- 15:03that may be a little pricier than that fifteen dollars. So again that that
- 15:07might have material that might be a little more to go swore thirteen. You
- 15:11have to sort through it. Yeah, oh, you have to go digging
- 15:13through it. But well, I'll tell you some of the photos. I
- 15:16was on their Facebook page and some of the photos they had an oculus you
- 15:20know. Wow, Yeah, a medicquest, a mediquest oculus, you know.
- 15:26And I'm like, that's a pretty good find. You know. No,
- 15:28that is well, you know, you can do that with Amazon directly
- 15:31too. Sometimes, you like, if you have the space and the money,
- 15:35you can buy an entire palette of returns and you have apps. It's
- 15:41like a treasure chest. You have absolutely no idea. And I've been watching
- 15:46from time to time. I'll watch these guys on YouTube and this is like,
- 15:50this is the their addiction. You know. They get these palettes and
- 15:52they're in it for the thrill. It's like those guys that go do those
- 15:56stars storage wars. The storage you never know what you're gonna get when you
- 16:02open it up, right, Yeah, that would be a trip to buy
- 16:04one a storage locker. You know, imagine, imagine you get one that
- 16:08has old technology in it. Well, the man, that would be cool.
- 16:15There was one there was one video I watched on YouTube where a guy
- 16:18got a palette from Amazon, right, and he had no idea what it
- 16:21was. I think I meant. I think he said he paid five hundred
- 16:22for it, and it was a case or a palette full of custom built
- 16:26computers whoa not bad, each one worth about fifteen hundred dollars. Right,
- 16:33Well, that is something that's pretty pretty big. But again, I think
- 16:37some good advice for Steve, your advice about you know, oh yeah,
- 16:40we went off on a tangent. Yeah, now we had a we had
- 16:44another listener comment on Facebook, and I really thought this is important to share
- 16:48and mentioned because it's great advice. And I reached out to the folks behind
- 16:53at this company and never heard a word back from them. But here's here's
- 16:57what we got. Said. I heard your show recently about the stream deck.
- 17:02I asked my boss about getting one for me from my office. I
- 17:04have a bit of carpal tunnel pain in my right arm and thought this may
- 17:07help get a good portion of clicking and scrolling moved over to my other hand
- 17:11and it did. The thing is the bomb. I told my boss up
- 17:15front it would likely not make me more productive but help with the pain.
- 17:19But it does, in fact help me do things quicker and be more productive.
- 17:23I got the Excel plug in and programmed many buttons I often use.
- 17:26Since then, two others in my office got one, and likely a few
- 17:30more will get one once they see what this thing can do in an office
- 17:33setting, which is what you were talking about, Justin. Yeah, so
- 17:36we don't stream at all, but I love this thing after only a few
- 17:38days of using it. Many add on devices I find gimmicky and not very
- 17:42helpful, but honestly think for anyone working on a PC all day, that
- 17:47this device is the best add on you could get. First time I found
- 17:52something that actually helped by a huge margin. Every office worker should have one.
- 17:57We all get the fifteen. We all got the fifth team button version
- 18:00and found using it without the supplied stand best for office work. Thank you
- 18:04for the tip. That's for you, Justin from Rick B. I'm so
- 18:08glad Rick that that that worked out for you, because honestly I love it.
- 18:12I love the stream deck. Sean, you you mentioned it too,
- 18:15so yeah, you I think you can introduce the stream deck. I have
- 18:18one here at my computer, and we probably got more than a dozen of
- 18:23them at work doing different things. Now. See, I think I think
- 18:26the hard part here is that a lot of people associate stream deck. Might
- 18:32go into Best Buy and they're going to see the stream deck with the other
- 18:36streaming equipment like the camera and the microphone and the lighting. But it goes
- 18:41beyond being used for gaming. Here is a portion where you can actually use
- 18:44it for just everyday computer use. I mean, honestly, I really wish
- 18:48you can have it open. Yeah, you can have it open bookmarks,
- 18:49you can have it open Windows, you can have it open. You know,
- 18:52it does it does so much stuff. I feel like this is the
- 18:56problem that El Gato should address. Ago is the maker of the stream deck.
- 19:00They need to be marketing this in two facets, you know, like
- 19:06to the gaming community. Yeah, sure, that's what they do. They
- 19:07named it after the gaming community, but also market it to the office worker
- 19:12exactly. I mean, this is is a great tool. That's why I
- 19:15thought this, this you know comment from Rick was perfect for that. And
- 19:21now if you look, Logitech has actually invested in loop deck. So now
- 19:26loop Deck, from what I understand, is something along the same line.
- 19:30I haven't used it yet. I haven't seen it. They there's a couple
- 19:33other competitors. Yeah, and I would think you know, I looked online
- 19:37and honestly, the closest that I could find too, the Algado stream Deck,
- 19:42was probably you know, the Loo loop deck, and how you could
- 19:45program it to do the same kind of thing. So justin tell me,
- 19:48if I've got one on my desk and I use Google Word, I maybe
- 19:55open up a website for my company, and I do all of that,
- 20:00and I have them all sized, I can hit one button and that will
- 20:03all come up in that same format and frame. That's that's that's what I
- 20:07do every morning. So like when I get into work, I I reboot
- 20:10my computer to get a fresh start, and when it comes up to the
- 20:14desktop, I press one button and it then goes and it opens up off
- 20:18it or Outlook. Then it repositions the outlook window to where I want it
- 20:22to be. Then it opens up Firefox repositions, That opens up Microsoft one
- 20:27Note and Teams repositions those on my second and third monitors, and uh and
- 20:33then and yeah, and then it sets a bluetooth on Wi Fi on It
- 20:38automatically connects my my my you know, headphones to it. It does everything
- 20:45with one single button press. Now, Sean, are you looking at loop
- 20:48deck right? Now I'm looking at that. I've seen these before, but
- 20:52they have definitely have a handful of new products. Yeah they I mean they
- 20:56look cool. Yeah, and this this looks like a mashup of the stream
- 21:03deck and the go x l R. Yeah, the loop deck Live.
- 21:08It's actually cheaper too. Yeah, it didn't tell us that the go xlr
- 21:12was kind of like not the goal xlr is abandoned. Weear now they're no
- 21:17longer supporting the bummer because I know Matt uses that pretty he has it,
- 21:26that's what he uses. And Algado came out with a competitor to the go
- 21:32xl R, not with xl R inputs, but with Windows some Windows functionality
- 21:37control, so you can do sound change, you can change audio inputs and
- 21:41things like that with with some digital encoders. But these loop deck things look
- 21:47very similar to stream decks, but they have with a little bit of that.
- 21:52Yeah, like plus looks pretty cool. The loo Oh my gosh.
- 21:57Yeah, these are definitely cad to a little bit more of a niche market
- 22:02in terms of like video editing and some some some of the podcasts. I
- 22:06agree with that, Sean, I mean, yes, they're they're definitely geared
- 22:08more towards the graphic artist or the video artist or audio engineers, thing like
- 22:14that. But I mean they are basically a stream deck, but they're also
- 22:17a lot thinner. But stream Deck what I like about it is it's literally
- 22:22just an external fifteen key pad. Now you can customize to do whatever you
- 22:27want it to do. They have a smaller stream deck that I have seen,
- 22:32a key six key, but as Rick had mentioned, they got the
- 22:37fifteen key. Is that that's a better unit for for this type of thing.
- 22:41I mean, which which one do you have, Sean? So I've
- 22:44got the fifteen key, right, so if I if I can hold it
- 22:47up. If not, it has on. I just don't have the software
- 22:49open right now. But this is this is the fifteen key and it's white,
- 22:52right, So yeah, I have one of those networks. It's enough
- 22:56for what I need work. We have the fifteen keys also, but we
- 23:03also have the XL which is thirty two keys because we do some functions with
- 23:08the thirty two ones that need more buttons in one page versus the fifteens.
- 23:12And there is a software that you can get that will utilize the stream deck
- 23:18hardware, but it's its own software called bit Focused Companion right, which is
- 23:23if you know any video professional or broadcast professional, they know what bit focused
- 23:30Companion is because it's running in so many production houses, so many video engineer
- 23:36you know, it's a must have for they're calling it. They call it
- 23:41like it controls stuff, right, So I can connect my computer to the
- 23:45stream deck, run bit focused Companion, and then with this software connect to
- 23:51things like our video switcher or our expression our graphics machine, or our video
- 23:59router or things like that, and actually running commands from the stream deck that
- 24:03will do things within those environments. So it can control like our PTZ cameras
- 24:08at work, I can set up a page that has Pantel zoom function,
- 24:14zoom, white balance, all that stuff now on through this software running off
- 24:18the stream deck. What about cost? If somebody is listening to this and
- 24:22they're thinking, well, you know what, I want to get one of
- 24:22these, because I think this would be great on my desk because I open
- 24:26a lot of windows throughout the day, or I log into maybe two or
- 24:29three different sites in the morning when I come in. What are they going
- 24:33to be spending if they want to get the fifteen key like stream deck on
- 24:37average? I mean, are they are they looking and investing a lot of
- 24:41money in this No? No, So the stream Deck Mini is like just
- 24:45under one hundred bucks. I think the Mini Mini Mini stream Deck Mini is
- 24:49fifte oh cool. Yeah, and then then the fifteen key one is one
- 24:53hundred and fifty. That's not bad. That's not bad at all. All
- 24:56Right, we got to take quick break. We come back. We've got
- 25:00more to talk about, and I'll tell you how I troubleshooted something. I
- 25:02thought I was gonna have to buy a new TV. I didn't have to.
- 25:04I'll tell you why. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean de Weird,
- 25:08and I'm justin. Let me find us on the internet at tech talk radio
- 25:11dot com. We'll be right back and now back to tech talk Radio.
- 25:15There's nothing worse than when you, uh, well, I guess there could
- 25:19be worse when you come into the studio or you get into your office and
- 25:23your computers are shut down and you know that you didn't shut them down,
- 25:27and then you love those yeah, but they they are completely powered off.
- 25:33And then you look and you see the other items that are not controlled by
- 25:37a PC. There also have been reset. So I know that it took
- 25:40some kind of a power hit right now, I've got a ups How I
- 25:45didn't hear it, I don't know, but I had that happen and then
- 25:48didn't think anything of it. Well, in my office, which is aside
- 25:52from the studio, I have a thirty two inch television that I have there.
- 25:57It's connected to Google. So that way my doorbell, because I've got
- 26:03a Nest doorbell, it will announce it on the TV. But if I'm
- 26:07just sitting there working and I want to have something on behind me, or
- 26:10I can I whant I do my new segments for Fox Sometimes if what I'm
- 26:14doing them from home, I'll put the logo behind me on the television and
- 26:18it's great. So I use the TVO stream four K and what that is.
- 26:23It's basically like considered like an Amazon Firestick or Roku, but this is
- 26:30put out by TVO and I like it. The channel guide is good.
- 26:33I have access to Disney HBO, you know through my accounts that I you
- 26:37know, I've subscribed to Pair Themount. I've also got channels that are available
- 26:42that you couldn't get anywhere else. And I noticed that it would go into
- 26:48a reboot of the TVO logo and I was like, whoa, okay,
- 26:52what's going on there? And no matter what I did, I couldn't reset
- 26:56it. I hit the reset button on the side of it wouldn't come back
- 27:00up and it would just reboot and never give me my channel guide or get
- 27:04into you know, the their their programs. So I thought, oh,
- 27:08wow, well you know what happened here. So I took that TV,
- 27:12that TVO device and I came into this TV. We've got a TV in
- 27:17the studio here, uh, and I plugged it in there the h dm
- 27:21iPort and it was fine, even did an update, and I'm like,
- 27:26wow, okay, that's weird. So then I took a my fire stick
- 27:30that's in this studio, took it to that television, plugged it in.
- 27:34Nothing. I'm like, oh boy, I think I've yeah, So I'm
- 27:41thinking, okay, well, I think I've I've actually, you know,
- 27:44I actually thought I took out a couple of HD myports on the television because
- 27:48nothing was coming up. The USB port was working fine, and I have
- 27:52that's the stick where I have the photos on, so I can have that
- 27:55at the background. Right. I was so frustrated, and I started looking
- 27:59for a TV to buy and then a little blake bulb went off the side
- 28:03of my head. Wait, Andy, what if the one thing I didn't
- 28:07change. I didn't change the little power connector that plugs into my you know,
- 28:14my UPS. I didn't change that, the cable, didn't change that.
- 28:19So I did this is what you have to do when you're troubleshooting.
- 28:23So I went ahead and I found another power adapter, you know, a
- 28:27little brick that had a USB plug you could plug into a USB in there,
- 28:33change it out, plugged it into that TV, and sure enough it
- 28:36worked. So I was ready to go buy a new TV. But really
- 28:40it was just the little the little USB plug that you plug into, which
- 28:45is plugged into your power So that's what went out on that. Somehow it
- 28:48didn't survive the power surge because it had to be a power surge. So
- 28:53that took me back. Yeah, but weird. Yeah, so again a
- 28:57little something to think about and another reason why. I mean, you just
- 29:03you just demonstrated everybody. This is the basic This is how you troubleshoot stuff
- 29:07like walk down the line all the way from the product that you're looking at,
- 29:11down to the connectors that connect to that product, down to the electricity.
- 29:17I mean, you have to just step your way back. That's how
- 29:19an engineer thinks. Yeah, first I assumed it was a TVO. Then
- 29:22I assumed it was the TV, but it ended up being a little,
- 29:26you know, twelve dollars part that Luckily I had another one that was sitting
- 29:30around and was able to use that. So awesome again. Yeah, you
- 29:33gotta be careful when you're troubleshooting and get getting ready to throw something out.
- 29:36Now, you bought something, and I think I have an idea what you
- 29:40bought, because your eyes lit up a little when I mentioned the stream deck,
- 29:48and I'm thinking it might be it might have something to do with that.
- 29:52I don't know, maybe not well as you may or may not know
- 29:55if you play video games at all. It's the it's the Steam Spring sale.
- 30:00Oh and they what do they do now, Sean? Is it?
- 30:03Is it? They do it four times a year, like they do a
- 30:07spring, summer, fall, winter sale. Every day's a sale on Steam.
- 30:10I don't know, Oh, I missed the spring sale. It's the
- 30:14summer sale. It used to be twice a year they would do a sale
- 30:18regardless. Steam is like it's a repository for you. To buy PC games,
- 30:23right, and so you buy all your games through Steam and you don't
- 30:29need to have discs for them or anything like that. Like they're digitally installed,
- 30:33so like you can install it, uninstall it, reinstall it over,
- 30:36you know whatever, any to your heart's content. You know, it's funny
- 30:38in your library forever. You know, it's funny if you go into like
- 30:41a Walmart or even even a best Buy, mind you, and you look
- 30:45at the titles that are on the shelves, You're not gonna see very many
- 30:48titles anymore. No, everything's digital now. Yeah, the way I mean
- 30:52it really is the way we're all getting our games, whether you get it
- 30:55from you know, uh, game Pass or Steam or any of the other
- 31:00yeah that are out. I mean yeah, PlayStation's got their own xboxes,
- 31:03got their own Steam. I mean Steam has been around for what twenty five
- 31:07years? Maybe, I mean ninety eight, ninety nine I think is when
- 31:11it came out. I don't know whatever, really, I don't know.
- 31:15Maybe not let Sean do his Google for these really good The valve was the
- 31:18ones that came up with Half Life, right, yes, and shortly after
- 31:22that, okay, maybe so maybe like two thousand and five. Yeah maybe
- 31:25anyway, Well, yeah, okay, fine, whatever. But here's the
- 31:29thing. I don't have time to like sit at my computer to play.
- 31:33I mean, I sit at a computer all day long. I don't I
- 31:34don't want to sit anymore. Like right now, I have my gaming laptop,
- 31:37and I find myself firing up Steam more than I do Xbox Game Pass
- 31:44just because of the selection of games. I mean, there's ten to one
- 31:48amount of games on Steam as there is to Xbox or PlayStation. But I
- 31:52don't like setting up my laptop all the time, Like it's it's cumbersome,
- 31:56you know, And I just well, it so happens that Steam has a
- 32:01portable handheld and it's gonna call it the steam Deck. Yes, so you
- 32:08know, the stream Deck. It's the Steam Deck. So you heard us
- 32:13talking about stream deck. What to do? Is you you? You know,
- 32:15you tell the other half I'm gonna buy the stream Deck. I think
- 32:17that'd be great, and you accidentally buy the steam Deck. Oh we see.
- 32:22It's only a difference of like three hundred dollars. It's not a big
- 32:25deal. But no, so I was I was sitting there looking at it.
- 32:29I'm like, you know what I've been saving up some money for something.
- 32:31I just I don't really have anything in mind, and I was like,
- 32:35you know what, screw it, let's do it. So I bought
- 32:37myself a five hundred and twelve gigabyte O Lead. It's an O Lead screen.
- 32:44It's the new model of the Steam Deck. So it's the five hundred
- 32:47and twelve gigabyte O Lead Steam Deck. It's got a seven point four inch
- 32:52screen, so it's a little bit bigger than the original Steam Deck. And
- 32:57then I bought like an extra I mean, I don't know what sixteen gigs
- 33:00ram. It's got a I don't know what kind of processor in it,
- 33:04but it's it's pretty nice. It runs off Linux, it runs off Steam
- 33:07OS, but you can sideload it with Xbox GamePass, Battle dot Net,
- 33:14a bunch of emulators. Like you can emulate anything from like game Boy all
- 33:17the way up to you know, PlayStation four. Right, I mean you
- 33:22can emulate anything on the Steam Deck. You can't raise play Switch games on
- 33:24there, right, I mean yes, you can? What really? Yes,
- 33:29you can emulate Nintendo. Yes, there's there's a bunch of Nintendo emulators
- 33:31out there. Absolutely, Like this is an all in one unit and that
- 33:37unit alone, so I got the again. I bought the five to twelve
- 33:39gig model, which does have an SD card slot so you can expand it
- 33:44so I can go out and buy like a two terabyte card if I want
- 33:47it or whatever. Anyway, just out the door with that alone, it
- 33:52was five and eighty five dollars, right, So it's it's a little bit
- 33:55pricey. I mean, it's obviously pricier than an Xbox or a pl PlayStation
- 34:00five or god forbid a switch. I mean it's it's more expensive than all
- 34:04those. But on top of that, I also bought an armored case.
- 34:08I can't remember. I think it's just Go, I think JUSTCO or whatever.
- 34:13But it is an armored case with a kickstand. But it also includes
- 34:15a it's a specialized cooling fan that you strap onto the back and it actually
- 34:22helps lower it by about ten degrees because that thing gets hot, right.
- 34:27But it does have fifty hours battery life. Fifty hours yeah, oh man.
- 34:34Yeah, But I mean if you're playing like Triple A titles, like
- 34:37really graphically intensive ones, yeah, you're not gonna get fifty hours. If
- 34:40you're playing like Stardoo Valley or something like Super Easy two D you know whatever.
- 34:46Yes, you'll get a lot of time out of it. But that's
- 34:49what I'm playing lately. I'm playing chill games. Now, I don't I'm
- 34:52not saying call of duty for somebody that has played on screens larger than you
- 34:58know, fifteen inch screens. You're you're playing your game titles, and you're
- 35:01used to that, and now you know, we've got these massive screens now
- 35:05you know, forty nine inch fifty two inch screens that you can play with
- 35:07computer games. Going to the smaller screen on the uh Steam deck? Is
- 35:15that did take a little while to get used to that. Well, I'll
- 35:17tell you when I get it. Oh you bought it? Oh wow,
- 35:21I just bought it today, Like literally, I just bought it this morning.
- 35:24It should be here in three to five days. No, I give
- 35:27you. I get what you're saying. Yeah, it's gonna take a little
- 35:29bit of getting used to because you're gonna be focusing your entire play area on
- 35:32a smaller palette, if you will, Like you know, and and me,
- 35:37I wear glasses when I have to look at my phone or or or
- 35:40my computer. So I'm already gonna have to wear glasses anyway. To watch
- 35:44this. So, yeah, you're compressing everything down to extremely small size.
- 35:50But what you get on the upside of that is you get portability. I
- 35:52don't have to get my huge laptop desk, you know, carrier my my
- 35:57lap, laptop carrier off of my lap and then get out of the chair
- 36:01and make sure the laptop is set on the floor properly, and then go
- 36:05get myself a drink and come back and sit. I lift the big old
- 36:08laptop back up on the thing, you know, No, I just I
- 36:12just put the little handheld down and go get my stuff and come back and
- 36:15grab the handheld. Now what what about? All right? So can you
- 36:19can you toss the video to a big screen TV? Absolutely? There's yo.
- 36:23Look at that. That's and it supports all controllers. So if you
- 36:27want to use a PlayStation controller with it. Again, if you want to
- 36:30use an Xbox, go ahead. Do you want to use the Steam controller?
- 36:32I don't know why you would want to do that, but you could
- 36:36right now. I know Asus has theirs the rog ally which is Windoo.
- 36:42Yeah, Windows eleven base uh ms I has got one uh the Claw which
- 36:47they're they're they're really going up against there seemed to be going up against a
- 36:52sus more than anything with their pricing battles. But I'm everything. Come on,
- 36:57let's face it, everything is all going to be a fan. There's
- 37:00also the Lenovo Legion Go I think it's called They Can Go. And then
- 37:07there's a new one and I am so bad. I just read an article
- 37:10about this. But there's a new company. I think it's called Platron or
- 37:15something like that. Maybe Sean, you can look that up. But there's
- 37:16a new company. They're releasing their own handheld to compete with a Steam Deck.
- 37:21But here's the thing. They they actually invented their own OS. Oh
- 37:25wow, So they they actually have full control over their platform and they're releasing
- 37:32their OS available to other platforms. So if I have my Steam deck,
- 37:37I can do the I can remember again the company Platron or something. I
- 37:42can use their OS, and their OS allows complete utter support for everything,
- 37:49Xbox game Pass, sideloading, emulators, whatever I want. It makes it
- 37:54really nice to me because with a Steam Deck out the gate, I have
- 37:58to do a little trickery to get those emulators to put on it, because
- 38:01I got to get into the root of the Linux system. And I don't
- 38:05like doing that. But this new play Torontos or whatever it's called, that's
- 38:09supposed to make Steam shaking their boots. Uh, Sean, what did you
- 38:13find out it's called? Oh, it is out of the park. It's
- 38:20running its own flavor of Linux. I'm just quickly reading in our Technica article.
- 38:28But again, it's it. It takes what Steam did right about the
- 38:32Linux os right, and it also takes what Steam did wrong and makes it
- 38:37better. Will it look better than my Atari? My arcade? Oh?
- 38:42Yeah, just a little bit. Can you play Balder's Gate three on that
- 38:45thing? No? No, I can play it on the Steam Deck.
- 38:47All right, we're gonna take another quick break. We come back. We've
- 38:50got more of tech talk Radio. A matter of fact, if you're thinking,
- 38:52you know who's playing games? Justin you've come some pretty big numbers when
- 38:57it comes to what people are doing? What what? What is the hobby
- 39:00factor of video games? We'll do it when we come back with tech talk
- 39:04Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, I'm seon de BRD, and I'm justin.
- 39:07Let me send us an x or formerly known as a tweet at tech talk
- 39:12Radio. We'll be right back now back to cheap talk Radio. So There's
- 39:15a company called Solitaire Bliss that recently went out and they surveyed a thousand Americans
- 39:22about their hobbies, like what do they like to do? You know,
- 39:25why do they like to do them? And then what are the best ones?
- 39:29You know, like the cheapest versus the most expensive in things when it
- 39:31comes to hobbies. When it comes to hobbies, yeah, I mean there's
- 39:35some hobbies that are you know, easy, like reading books, you know,
- 39:37and then there's hobbies like like disc golf that take up like thousands of
- 39:43dollars of your money. And Sean can attest to that. No, yeah,
- 39:49you oh my god. Now he's gonna go get his He's gonna go
- 39:53he's gonna get one of his seven bags. He just got up and he's
- 39:58coming back to the table an entire backpack full of discs. What do you
- 40:01do with that? You play golf? Play disc golf. I don't even
- 40:06know what that is. It's like frisbee golf. Oh really, I mean
- 40:09that's what that's what the non you know players call it. But yeah,
- 40:13I know it's there's another one. Yep, I know he did get Oh
- 40:19my gosh, yeah, he's he's pretty big anyway, that's that's one hobby.
- 40:22That's one hobby of a million, right, So there's other hobbies.
- 40:24But what they found is that they found a couple you know, different key
- 40:28findings. So video games, that's what I like to do. I like
- 40:30to play video games. I also like to golf, you know, regular
- 40:32golf, you know disc golf too, But video games ranks the eighth number,
- 40:38number eighth hobby with the best bang for your buck in twenty twenty four.
- 40:44Really now, I think because the time it takes no no, the
- 40:49prices. Like ten years ago, you you had like your God of Wars
- 40:53and your Halo's and you know, the Call of Duty's and stuff, the
- 40:58big tripa A titles, and they're expensive, of I mean, they're you
- 41:00know, fifty nine sixty nine dollars, seventy nine dollars. But now you're
- 41:05finding this resurgence of indie games. And especially when I was talking about Steam
- 41:10right with the PC or even game Pass really or whatever, you've got a
- 41:15ton of indie developers that are making very cheap but very interesting games. You're
- 41:22talking four dollars, nine dollars, fifteen dollars, and they're game and they're
- 41:27good. I mean summer crap. But you know a lot of them are
- 41:30good. I mean it's kind of like finding the diamond and the rough,
- 41:34but you kind of rely on the review communities. Communities go out there and
- 41:37they review these games and they're like, hey, for five dollars, you
- 41:40can get this amazing game and then it entertains you for like three to four
- 41:45hours. Bam, done for five bucks. Okay, So that's why they're
- 41:50saying it's the best bang for your buck because you can find a lot of
- 41:52interesting things out there that you normally wouldn't find. But also online gaming the
- 41:58video game what right, online gaming We're not talking about like, you know,
- 42:01online betting. We're talking about gaming online, right, Yeah, like
- 42:06a call of duty or whatever, you know, things like that, right.
- 42:08So then also video game developing, computer building, three D modeling and
- 42:14printing, coding, robotics and esports, everything technology related. Those are all
- 42:21in the top fifty hobbies with the best bang for your buck. Nice And
- 42:23then they also said gamers spend on average of seventy one dollars and forty eight
- 42:30cents a month on their passion, which makes it the eleventh most expensive hobby.
- 42:36I can think about that like, if you're playing a game on your
- 42:38phone that is got loot, you know, basically you get you want to
- 42:43keep playing, You want to have better odds of being able to achieve a
- 42:46level. You might have to spend a few bucks to be able to get
- 42:50the tools to do it, or you don't and it just takes you a
- 42:52little while to do it. Right. I hate that model of gaming.
- 42:55I hate that pay to win. That's how companies though, like you know,
- 42:59theeople behind the Yeah, that's how they made their that's how they They've
- 43:04been huge billions billions. Yeah. Yeah. But they also say that the
- 43:08average American devotes nine hours per week to their hobbies whatever. You know,
- 43:13that may be right, Uh, stress relief is the number one desired outcome
- 43:17for doing hot? Is that true? When you're when you're playing a game,
- 43:21and you're especially an online game like Sean, you do a lot of
- 43:23D and D and that type of stuff, don't doesn't your stress level go
- 43:28up? No? I mean the fast. Actually, if I'm playing Hell
- 43:32Divers, yeah yeah, my stress levels going up because I got to squash
- 43:36those bugs. Yeah yeah, yeah, I mean for D and D and
- 43:40stuff, right, that's probably one of my bigger hobbies. Uh, that
- 43:45doesn't stress me out. It's unless you're a dungeon master. Yeah, well
- 43:50that's what I am, and I like I like the creative side of it.
- 43:52I like to stress. I prefer to be a dungeon master instead of
- 43:55a player. But because I get to kill players. If you don't like
- 44:02them, squash you're dead. But no, it's I don't think it's crazy.
- 44:07I mean, there are games that are stressful, but I mean I
- 44:13can see what it really stressed me out. I can see what Andy said.
- 44:15I mean, you think about those people you see on YouTube and stuff,
- 44:19like people playing Call of Duty and they're just like, you know,
- 44:21shouting expletives and throwing their controllers at the TV. Yeah, no, I
- 44:24get I get what you're saying. Even that listener a few weeks back that
- 44:29said her kid was throwing the controller and cussing like like is some something took
- 44:34over his body? You know again that you know that could be just go
- 44:37to just go to YouTube, and you're gonna find all sorts of rage quitting
- 44:42people, yeah and stuff. And those are people that have other issues going
- 44:45on. I mean seriously, I mean, yeah, yeah, but but
- 44:49the but the final stat that they found, which this is interesting, is
- 44:52they found that over half of the people, like fifty five abrought approximately fifty
- 44:55five percent of the people agree that in inflation is making their hobbies less accessible
- 45:02to them. Yeah, and that that is so true. Have you seen
- 45:05that. Let's take golf for example. You want to get out, you
- 45:08want to you know, shacket some balls at the golf course, you want
- 45:12to play around? Uh? Is that more expensive than maybe it was five
- 45:15years ago? Well, I would love to speak to that, but unfortunately
- 45:20I work for a parks and rec district that I get free golf, So
- 45:22I for that anymore. But no, no, no, yeah, no,
- 45:27but enough about me. No, yes, it is. It is
- 45:31getting more expensive. I mean, yeah, a bucket of balls to go
- 45:35hit on the on the driving range, and and and the gas to get
- 45:37there, you know or whatever. I mean, Yeah, it's it's more.
- 45:40You want to stop at the clubhouse and get a sandwich, Yeah,
- 45:43it's gonna be five dollars more expensive than it was five years ago. I
- 45:45mean, yes, it is. It is good. I mean, as
- 45:49a matter of fact, I actually went to Dunkin Donuts this past weekend.
- 45:52I got six donuts, right, and two coffees, well lattes, yeah,
- 45:58two lattes and six donuts. Okay, twenty seven dollars. It's ridiculous,
- 46:01isn't it. I got to tell you. One of my friends on
- 46:06social media went to Disneyland, took his kids to Disneyland. They was survived.
- 46:12Well, I don't know. They went to go eat at Goofy's Kitchen,
- 46:15which is a buffet style, and you've got the characters that come out,
- 46:20and you know, they entertain you while you're eating and they have fun.
- 46:23I'm not kiddney you. He showed me his receipt for it was eight
- 46:29adults, two kids, and two infants. He had to sell kidney,
- 46:32didn't he It was six hundred and something dollars good for dinner. Lord,
- 46:38six hundred and something dollars. I think maybe forty eight dollars for six hundred
- 46:43and forty eight for dinner. I can't. I can't even fathom that.
- 46:45You know, he's ridiculous. Hey, he said. Even buying a corn
- 46:49dog there was like thirty dollars. Yeah, he was like, it's just
- 46:52crazy a card dog of all. I mean that, but but honestly,
- 46:55I look at it, like and I've looked at it like this for years.
- 46:58When my wife's like, why do you play video games? I'm like,
- 47:00Okay, would you rather me go out to the club on a Friday
- 47:04or Saturday night, or maybe go up to the casino or go to the
- 47:07off track betting place. Like I look at it as look, I'm spending
- 47:12sixty bucks now to give me entertainment for the next six months. Yeah,
- 47:16that's true, that's true. Will you buy a game, You've got it
- 47:21to play. You don't have to play pay every time you want to play
- 47:22it. Yeah, no, you don't. Well usually, I mean there
- 47:25are games like World of Warcraft that you have a monthly subscription, but if
- 47:30you're not playing that, then yes, you own the game. You can
- 47:34play whenever you want. And that's part of the reason why I bought the
- 47:37Steam deck is because I just want to PLoP down in my chair play a
- 47:39game for like an hour, because I barely get more than an hour at
- 47:43a time, and Sean, good luck ever trying to find time to play
- 47:45games a game with two kids. Yep, have you been there, record,
- 47:52Yeah exactly. We were thankful you were able to. But have you
- 47:54been able to get in some of the D and D stuff. No,
- 48:00not since not since we went to the hospital when Cale got induced, I
- 48:02haven't had a chance. Like we normally would play Wednesday nights once a week
- 48:08for three hours, and it's just they don't have that kind of time right
- 48:12now. And if I do get a time to play, it's like one
- 48:15hour to play two things of hell Divers or Uh. It's just I gotta
- 48:20pick what is gonna make me the most happy to play. Like I gotta
- 48:24be very mindful of what I want to play or what I you know.
- 48:28So it's just I gotta be I gotta pick and choose what I play.
- 48:31Have have you since you've had Daniel, have you found a time to take
- 48:36a shower? Because I can smell you from here though, I mean just
- 48:42I'm just saying I could see I forgot You're I forgot You're supposed to do
- 48:45that? Yeah, all right. So you you're talking about the value though
- 48:51for gamers if you think about it, everything else has gone up, but
- 48:53for gaming, you do get that that benefit. There is something that we
- 48:58didn't even mention as Steam family sharing, which I just found out about.
- 49:02So if you have now your your kids, your your boys are going to
- 49:06grow up, Sean, They're gonna want to play all your games, especially
- 49:08if you're on hand them down your library. Yeah you're on Steam. I
- 49:13remember my kids used to play all the games that I had. But that's
- 49:15the day where they would just install it and and play, or they'd all
- 49:17play on my computer. But with Steam Family Sharing, if you had a
- 49:22Steam game and maybe the kid wanted to play it on their device or on
- 49:25their computer, it would kick you off if you were playing Steam. From
- 49:30what I said, yeah, so you only want account per you know,
- 49:35per use. So Valve is doing this with Steam Family Gaming, which is
- 49:38great because using this idea that you get more value with games, they're making
- 49:43it so you could share this infome nice. I mean, it's it's all
- 49:47about right. So you've got my Parish generation they didn't really grow up with.
- 49:53They might have had the Atari, oh yeah, early, very early
- 49:58later in their years, right, And then you have my Justice. And
- 50:01Justice is a little bit older and I am, but not too much older
- 50:04and I am. And even his experience of gaming is different than mine.
- 50:07Well, I grew up. I remember playing the uh the t I you
- 50:13know, Texas instruments one before they came out with the Nintendo Entertainment There was
- 50:16a Texas Instruments one. It was kind of like the Atari. Uh.
- 50:20That was my first system, and then I went with the Nintendo Entertainment System.
- 50:23The original Nest was my very first home. What was the first game,
- 50:30Sewan that you remember? Playing Legends of Zelda. That was a good
- 50:35one too. So just my mom when she was pregnant with me, was
- 50:38obsessed with playing Legend of Zelda. Really so even hand even hand drew her
- 50:44own map of the of the overworld. I knew where to go and one
- 50:51yeah before yeah, so that's where I attribute my like straight out, I
- 50:57was ready to play. The first game I ever played that I can remember
- 51:01on a computer before, because this was before the Nintendo Entertainment System was a
- 51:06game called jet boot Jack on the Commodore sixty four. Wow, it was
- 51:10super super old. It was called jet boot Jack. And then I played
- 51:15Zork, the original original zor Zork. Mine was Pong. Well, I
- 51:22mean that was right around the same time. I mean Paul and the Commodore
- 51:25sixty four and the Atari, you know, all that stuff that was right
- 51:29around that time frame. One of the games though, that I had that
- 51:30I spent a lot of time with was Interstate seventy six, and I just
- 51:36absolutely love that game. That at Redneck Rampage where two of my favorite wapes
- 51:40remind men Interstate seventy six, because literally I live a mile from I seventy
- 51:45six. Do you really? Yeah, it was just it was a cartoonish
- 51:49type game. I believe it was first person It's been so long, dude
- 51:55since I've played this game. But that like a violent one or something.
- 51:59Yeah, yeah, there were some aspects of violence in it, like red
- 52:01Deck Ram Page uh, Burton Cummings. Uh. Burton Gilliam did one of
- 52:06the voices in that with a get off my lan. You know, it's
- 52:09just to it makes sense because I seventy six leads into the po dunk parts
- 52:13of Colorado. So yeah, perfect, All right, listen, we got
- 52:15to take another quick break. We come back with more of tech Talk Radio.
- 52:19I'm Andy Taylor, I'm Sean Deird and I'm justin let me and I
- 52:22hope nobody from Podunk Colorado's listening to this show. We'll be right back and
- 52:28now fact to tech Talk Radio. I have a question for Sean. All
- 52:31right, Sean, I'm ready. What is a photo Bucket, and why
- 52:36do they keep wanting to have me stop them from deleting my account? So
- 52:40photo so we talked about this. We talked about this probably three months ago.
- 52:45All right, photo Bucket said, we're going to a subscription based thing.
- 52:51All your photos are going to be deleted. Uh. I used I
- 52:54used photo Bucket like in high school, so late two thousands. So I
- 53:00was like, oh man, I should go and check and see like what
- 53:02it's on there. So then they're like, subscribe for five dollars a month
- 53:07to get your photos back. Oh my god, they're holding a ransom.
- 53:10They're holding them ransom. So I paid the five dollars. Yeah, what
- 53:15did you have in the worthless? It was garbage, stuff that I had
- 53:17backed up. It was junk. It was stuff that I basically had like
- 53:22uploaded to like MySpace or other blogs or you know, live journal or whatever.
- 53:28Just but I needed a place to drop the photos in to host them
- 53:30right right, So it was just me. It was worthless. Oh boy.
- 53:34So just then, then, like every other human being that exists,
- 53:37I forgot to cancel it. Oh no, But then I got an email
- 53:43the next month, thanks for paying five dollars for your photo Bucket subscription.
- 53:47Well at least they were nice enough to do that. But now, yeah,
- 53:52since I've deleted it. I deleted, I said, I don't care
- 53:54anymore. Get rid of my photos. I don't care. Yeah, now
- 53:57they're every day. Oh yeah, it's crazy. Your photos are gonna be
- 54:00deleted. Yeah, it's it's ridiculous. I don't care. I deleted my
- 54:05cow go away, block and delete, block and delete. It's just like
- 54:10it's just going you know, I get it. It's not cheap the host
- 54:14stuff on the internet. With prices going up, it costs money for bandwidth
- 54:16and stuff, and there's a lot of a lot of inactive accounts, right
- 54:21right, But to go to a subscription model after having a free service for
- 54:24so long, that's just a kick in the pants, right It's it's it's
- 54:28really frustrating as an end user, and it's unfortunately a growing trend in the
- 54:35in the in the computer world. I've been using Adobe Master Suite for forever.
- 54:39I loved it, right, and now I'm starting to get the notices
- 54:43this is no longer supported. They'll let me keep using it, but it's
- 54:46like I have to get this message every day. So I thought, okay,
- 54:50what do I want to do? I want to up, if I
- 54:52want to update. It's gonna cost me almost seventy dollars a month for me
- 54:57to have all of the programs. They don't let you buy the software anymore,
- 55:00which is a shame, although if you want to, if you want
- 55:02to get a software for audio editing or anything like that, you can find
- 55:07alternatives. There's a ton of open source ones. It's something to think about.
- 55:09All right. Well, that's it for this week's show. Thank you,
- 55:13Thank you for being here. Sean. I know it's a little sleep
- 55:15for you, so now you can go to bed. I'm going I'm literally
- 55:16going upstairs right into bed, all right, and justin, you can sleep
- 55:21in your Bucky shirt today to show you your loyalty. I'm Andy Taylor,
- 55:24I'm trying to wear and I'm justin. Let me once again find us on
- 55:28the net tech Talk Radio dot com. Have yourselves a great week. See you
