- 0:48Speaker 3: That's when we.
- 0:51Speaker 1: You know, that's when we bring it to you every
- 0:53Speaker 1: week is Thursday nights at seven. But prior to that,
- 0:58Speaker 1: you get an hour of Loghorn Weekly with Rodney Terry,
- 1:01Speaker 1: a special basketball We've got two pre season if you
- 1:05Speaker 1: will shows for the Gay for basketball for the basketball
- 1:11Speaker 1: team tonight and then next Thursday night, two preview shows,
- 1:14Speaker 1: and then we have one more early season basketball show
- 1:18Speaker 1: on November fourteenth, and then we'll pick it up again
- 1:21Speaker 1: after the calendar flips and we get on into conference
- 1:24Speaker 1: play as we finish out football season. But this week
- 1:28Speaker 1: two shows next week the one show because since Texas
- 1:32Speaker 1: will be on and open date on a bye week
- 1:34Speaker 1: next week, there will be no show with Sart next Wednesday,
- 1:39Speaker 1: but we will have one with Rodney Terry on Thursday,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and then we'll pick up again with football the following week,
- 1:47Speaker 1: leading into the game against Florida. Tonight on the program,
- 1:51Speaker 1: we're gonna visit with junior transfer guard Jordan Pope and
- 1:56Speaker 1: grad transfer for Jason Kent. We'll also visit with those guys,
- 2:00Speaker 1: and we hope you'll you'll come on out six o'clock
- 2:04Speaker 1: from six to seven tonight.
- 2:05Speaker 2: At Pluckers during this now new age of college basketball
- 2:09Speaker 2: at the NIL, Eric Craig, the Trench Reporter, is it
- 2:13Speaker 2: is it tougher for you to learn the team now
- 2:17Speaker 2: than it was maybe, you know, five, ten years ago
- 2:19Speaker 2: because this entire roster obviously you have you know, Key Returns,
- 2:22Speaker 2: Kendall Weaver and Kayden Schdrick and the coaching staff. But
- 2:26Speaker 2: I mean in years past, you know, you would maybe
- 2:28Speaker 2: have two or three more freshmen joined the team. Now
- 2:31Speaker 2: it's like there's like eight guys here on this Texas roster.
- 2:34Speaker 2: And the same goes for Romans basketball. Is it is
- 2:36Speaker 2: it tougher for you.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Put it this way, it ensures the fact that then
- 2:45Speaker 1: I'm doing my homework because there's guys to make sure
- 2:49Speaker 1: that I understand.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Are new to the roster.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So so yeah, I have to I have to make
- 2:58Speaker 1: sure that I'm handling my business in terms of the preps.
- 3:01Speaker 3: So it is different.
- 3:02Speaker 1: It is different, but you know, every year there's roster
- 3:05Speaker 1: turnover the guys that league, there's new freshmen coming in.
- 3:07Speaker 1: This however, is obviously a team that has quite a
- 3:13Speaker 1: bit of change on it. There are six returning players,
- 3:16Speaker 1: four freshmen, and six players from the portal. So yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 1: there's the same thing. Also even in a senior dominated
- 3:25Speaker 1: team like the Texas Women have, I believe there's five
- 3:29Speaker 1: seniors and four juniors on the team, but that includes
- 3:35Speaker 1: transfers as well, so there's new ones to get involved
- 3:38Speaker 1: with to get to know as well. By the way,
- 3:43Speaker 1: Orange White game tonight to the Texas Women at seven
- 3:48Speaker 1: o'clock at Moody Center, and then next Thursday night they'll
- 3:51Speaker 1: have an exhibition game against you team, Tyler, So that
- 3:55Speaker 1: will be that'll be next Thursday night as they draw
- 3:58Speaker 1: closer to their season zero.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I wonder if we're gonna have Rory Harmon I Madsin
- 4:03Speaker 2: Booker on separate teams because it'll be fun to see
- 4:07Speaker 2: if one they would go up against each other and
- 4:09Speaker 2: how that would work.
- 4:10Speaker 3: It would be uh.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You know, my history with orange white games has been
- 4:15Speaker 1: or intrasquad exhibition games, is that quite often some of
- 4:21Speaker 1: the best players will be split on both sides, but
- 4:24Speaker 1: there will be some cross pollination.
- 4:26Speaker 3: There'll be points where they'll what does he.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Call the double sided jersey penny right, Yeah, they'll swap yeah, yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 1: they'll take those off put the other ones on the
- 4:34Speaker 1: double sided jerseys go from orange to white.
- 4:37Speaker 3: And that happens in football too.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You know when we do it, when we do the
- 4:41Speaker 1: orange white spring game, I mean, we're having to keep track. Wayman,
- 4:44Speaker 1: that dude was a wide receiver on orange moment ago.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Now he's on the white. Especially with the defensive players
- 4:50Speaker 1: they wind up sharing.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and if you don't have enough depth, then a
- 4:55Speaker 2: lot of times, like the first year Sark was here,
- 4:58Speaker 2: they didn't have enough for an orange white game.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Right, wasn't it just a practice? Yeah, yeah, that's exactly
- 5:03Speaker 3: what it was.
- 5:04Speaker 1: So anyway, that's something that speaking of not having enough
- 5:11Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw this note, but I
- 5:13Speaker 1: did find it intriguing. We know about the and I'll
- 5:20Speaker 1: say it unfortunate dissolution and eroding of the PAC twelve
- 5:27Speaker 1: conference with teams leaving with Colin Stanford one of the
- 5:31Speaker 1: a SEC and Oregon and Washington going to the Big
- 5:36Speaker 1: Ten in Colorado and Utah and Arizona and Arizona State
- 5:41Speaker 1: all going to the Big twelve. And so basically the
- 5:43Speaker 1: PAC twelve is falling apart, leaving only Washington State and
- 5:48Speaker 1: Oregon State. But they've begun to replenish their ranks, adding
- 5:56Speaker 1: Mount West Conference schools to the roster now and I
- 6:00Speaker 1: believe they've got to add what two more to get
- 6:05Speaker 1: to eight to be sanctioned to be Division one Football
- 6:10Speaker 1: FBS to where they could be playoff eligible, except by
- 6:13Speaker 1: twenty five or twenty six, they've got two years.
- 6:16Speaker 3: It's it's a two year deal, so next season.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah, So they've been working on that. There are also
- 6:26Speaker 1: challenges to scheduling because those two schools, Oregon State and
- 6:31Speaker 1: Washington State, had a scheduling alliance with a Mountain West,
- 6:36Speaker 1: but once they started, in the words of the Mountain
- 6:39Speaker 1: West poaching members of their conference then the scheduling thing
- 6:46Speaker 1: went out the window, so they kind of put Oregon
- 6:49Speaker 1: State and Washington State in a little bit of a
- 6:52Speaker 1: tough spot. So one step they announced yesterday was they're
- 6:57Speaker 1: going to play each other twice. They're going to go
- 7:00Speaker 1: home and home in twenty twenty five, so they have
- 7:05Speaker 1: to operate as quasi independence again next season. Before that
- 7:09Speaker 1: expansion of the PAC twelve and twenty twenty six, so
- 7:14Speaker 1: the acting on what we just talked about, they had
- 7:18Speaker 1: a two year grace period to refill the conference ranks,
- 7:23Speaker 1: so they kind of have to go independent. And the
- 7:26Speaker 1: reason why and Kyle Bonneger wrote this down that it
- 7:29Speaker 1: was quasi independent.
- 7:30Speaker 3: I think that's a good way of describing it.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Because they had part of a scheduling alliance with a
- 7:37Speaker 1: Mountain West. So they had the scheduling agreement where they
- 7:43Speaker 1: added six Mountain West opponents to their schedules. But when
- 7:46Speaker 1: the talks to extend the agreement with the Mountain West
- 7:49Speaker 1: broke down in August, then they knew they were going
- 7:51Speaker 1: to have to do something. So Oregon State had their
- 7:57Speaker 1: full schedule release for next year and so they have
- 8:00Speaker 1: seven home games. Well it's a home and home also
- 8:04Speaker 1: with Washington State. Oregon State will host the first game
- 8:06Speaker 1: on November first, Washington State will host a second game
- 8:09Speaker 1: regular season finale on November twenty nine. The Beavers will
- 8:13Speaker 1: host the Cougars this year on November twenty third, as
- 8:16Speaker 1: part of the regular scheduling cadence. And so that's a
- 8:21Speaker 1: little bit different that we'll see them go home and home,
- 8:27Speaker 1: you know, while they kind of just go through, for
- 8:31Speaker 1: want of a better term, a conference purgatory next year
- 8:36Speaker 1: before they can, you know, get other schools in on
- 8:40Speaker 1: into the reconstituted PAC twelve. And it does make you
- 8:45Speaker 1: wonder just, you know, how seriously that league will be
- 8:53Speaker 1: taken as a quote unquote power conference or not at
- 8:56Speaker 1: all next year. Which is why, by the way, I
- 8:58Speaker 1: think it's a good thing that the College Football Playoff
- 9:03Speaker 1: Committee was very much upfront about saying this that the
- 9:09Speaker 1: automatic bids into the twelve team playoff bracket this year
- 9:14Speaker 1: go to This is how it's written, not how you
- 9:18Speaker 1: may have heard from others. The automatic bids go to
- 9:23Speaker 1: the five highest ranked conference champions. We know there are
- 9:30Speaker 1: four power conferences ACC, Big Ten, Big twelve, SEC. We
- 9:39Speaker 1: know there's that The fifth one then would be a
- 9:41Speaker 1: G five a group of five conference like the American
- 9:44Speaker 1: or the Sun Belt or Conference USA or the MAC.
- 9:49Speaker 3: It would be one of those leagues.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But were also logical enough to figure out that really
- 9:57Speaker 1: and truly those four slots that get buys are going
- 10:01Speaker 1: to go to those four power conferences because the G
- 10:04Speaker 1: fives are just not going to be able to meet
- 10:07Speaker 1: up with them in terms of that higher ranking. They
- 10:09Speaker 1: lost another one last night. Did you see what happened
- 10:11Speaker 1: to Liberty? See that I did not. Liberty five and
- 10:16Speaker 1: zero lost to Owen six Kennesau State last night. I
- 10:20Speaker 1: watched some of that and it got crazy at the
- 10:24Speaker 1: end because Kennessas State had the lead.
- 10:27Speaker 3: What was last night Wednesday?
- 10:29Speaker 1: Yeah, Remember this is part of that fifty three day
- 10:31Speaker 1: window where there's college football. There's some football game on
- 10:34Speaker 1: every night for fifty three consecutive days, either NFL college
- 10:40Speaker 1: you know, Division one or smaller you know FCS level whatever.
- 10:44Speaker 1: So Liberty played last night at Kennesaw and I think
- 10:50Speaker 1: they mentioned they were a twenty seven and a half
- 10:52Speaker 1: point favorite.
- 10:53Speaker 3: And twenty seven and a half Okay.
- 10:54Speaker 1: They get down to the end of the game and
- 10:57Speaker 1: Kennesaw State is up twenty seven to twenty four, and
- 11:01Speaker 1: first of all, and I looked at it and I thought,
- 11:02Speaker 1: this is why this team is owned six or part
- 11:04Speaker 1: of it. They made some really ridiculous clock decisions that
- 11:08Speaker 1: allowed enough time once they got stopped trying to pick
- 11:11Speaker 1: up a first down.
- 11:13Speaker 3: It allowed Liberty six seconds left or ten seconds left.
- 11:18Speaker 1: They were snapping the ball when Liberty had no timeouts left,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and there were still like five or six seconds on
- 11:25Speaker 1: the play clock down in the final saying you run
- 11:28Speaker 1: it all the way down and there wouldn't have been
- 11:30Speaker 1: any time left, but they kept doing it, and so
- 11:32Speaker 1: Liberty gets the ball back. Cadence salters, a quarterback from
- 11:36Speaker 1: Cedar Hill, rolls out, throws pasc goes out of bounds,
- 11:41Speaker 1: kind of like the Colt McCoy went against Nebraska, skips
- 11:44Speaker 1: out right as the clock is going to zero.
- 11:47Speaker 3: It hit a player on the sideline. Fans rushed the field.
- 11:51Speaker 1: They're going crazy, Coaches are hugging players go.
- 11:54Speaker 3: And then they got players in review and sure enough,
- 11:59Speaker 3: there's a second left.
- 12:00Speaker 1: They have to make everybody clear off the field, and
- 12:04Speaker 1: they do one more and they trial the lateral stuff,
- 12:07Speaker 1: the pitchy pitchy woo woo stuff that Scott Vaan Pel
- 12:09Speaker 1: calls it and it doesn't work, and then they rush
- 12:11Speaker 1: the field a second time. So Liberty, which had it
- 12:14Speaker 1: outside shop because they were run beaten it maybe being
- 12:17Speaker 1: the G five forget about it. Now they're done. There's
- 12:21Speaker 1: no way they're going to be the highest rank because
- 12:23Speaker 1: they had a very very weak schedule otherwise.
- 12:25Speaker 2: So it looks like the only remaining group of five
- 12:28Speaker 2: teams Craig is a avy, Army and Navy trying to
- 12:31Speaker 2: combine them there and then Notre Dame Notre Dames. No,
- 12:34Speaker 2: they lost, right, so.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The only Army and Navy, and then the question is
- 12:39Speaker 1: can they get past Notre Dame otherwise? Yeah, otherwise Boise
- 12:44Speaker 1: State could be in the driver's seat there to get
- 12:47Speaker 1: one or Notre Dame could. I mean their schedule would
- 12:50Speaker 1: would improve with wins over Army and Navy for sure,
- 12:54Speaker 1: So we'll see how it goes from there. Any MAC teams, No, No,
- 12:59Speaker 1: the only MAC you'll be seeing will be on those
- 13:01Speaker 1: Tuesday and Wednesday games to see which teams are going
- 13:03Speaker 1: to go, which two teams are going to go to
- 13:05Speaker 1: Detroit and play in the in the UH I don't
- 13:08Speaker 1: care the quick lane, I don't think I don't even
- 13:11Speaker 1: think it's called the quick lane bowling Moore. I think
- 13:13Speaker 1: it's I think it's been changed. I'll figure that out.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Little Caesars ball, it's not even that all right. Coming up,
- 13:18Speaker 1: we'll hear more from Logorn's head coach, Steve Sarkizan on
- 13:20Speaker 1: sports Radio AM thirteen Under the Zone.
