- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for making that possible.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: And we strive to bring you completely independent pro football journalism.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: As we can see,
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: there's a lot of transactional interactions between media members and the people in
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: which they cover out there.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: In this day and age, we're going to stay in our lane.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: We're going to be independent.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: We're going to think clearly, and it's all because of you.

- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Here's this week's episode of Real Football Live from EBC Ellicottville Brewing Company.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: Man, what a good time hanging out in my hometown, drinking a beer or two.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Make sure you get out there to EBC.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: They got the very best beers from the blueberries to the IPAs.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: It was so good hanging out at EBC and talking football.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: We'll be sure to do it again, too,
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: so you can hang out with us in person,
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: whether it's down here in the Southern Tier or up in the Buffalo,
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Hamburg, Orchard Park area.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Be on alert for future hangouts as well.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Thanks so much, everyone.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Enjoy this episode.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Dissecting everything NFC and, of course, a touch of Bills as well.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: What is football?
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: 18 games.
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: September.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Week one lies.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: You know that week one lies.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: I can't wait, though.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: I can't.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: You hold up the schedule, and then it lies.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: You do know I will have in-depth breakdowns on Bain.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Give me another guy I went off on.
- 4:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, no, this linebacker for the Giants, Reese.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Arbel Reese, you're out.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: You're out on Reese.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, taking on fullbacks?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Top five.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: That's what we're bragging about?
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: That's where football's won.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: I want a little linebacker, fullback, Oklahoma drill in
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: the hole.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: I remember in the fifth and sixth round liking guys like that.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah?
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Not in the first.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: So you see some telltale signs that are a little concerning.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: There's some guys.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to follow those guys.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: I'm fascinated with the Giants right now.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: That division is wide.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: I think Washington's crazy.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Dallas is, we all, we know they're too good to be true.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: Philly is ultimate.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, that division is a complete,
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: in my opinion, that's the one division I'm like, oh,
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, you look at the Washington Commanders.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know what in the hell is going on in the offensive line,
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: but there's a lot to like there too.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Jaden Daniels,
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I feel like the entire football world is,
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Forgotten about him and what he can do if he is zero to 60 to your point at arm.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: If he's what he was and they added some dudes on defense,
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: their defense will be completely different.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Would anybody be surprised if they just boomerang back into being a nine, 10, 11 win team?
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't.
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: I'm going to Dallas because I like Dak out all those quarterbacks the most as far as
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: to trust right now with what he has around them.
- 5:43SPEAKER_02: Hurts, you know how I feel about him, his system.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Dallas is interesting.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Christian Parker fixing that defense.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: If they're just average, it's the same conversation we have
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: every year.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Perfect comparison.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: I can't buy into Cincy yet.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: All right, well, that's our cold open.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: We are live in my hometown, Ellicottville, New York, baby.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: I was able to coax Jim Onis, my co-host here at Real Football, down to glorious EBC News.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Ellicott Brewing Company, just fantastic beers here on all the taps.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Obviously the blueberry, that's a go-to.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Let's get it right here.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: Well, they always have so many.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to couple the Charge right now.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: I'm going with the Charge,
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Crushable American Game Day Lager, and then I'm going to pivot to Fan Zone later.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Some two football-themed beers here at EBC.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: But, man, it has grown so much.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: The town has blown up since I was in high school down here in Ellicottville.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Anything different to you?
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: I know this was a getaway probably for you and Doug in your Bill's heyday.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: And still live here, so I like to come down here a couple times every year.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: That's
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: part of it.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: We're in Ellicottville.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: You get stung.
- 6:53SPEAKER_02: I miss drinking when I'm here, though.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: I do miss drinking.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: I feel like I should help you out right now.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: You need a partner.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: And these beers sound good at EBC, which everybody comes to.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Places always filled up.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I mean, the joke's on me,
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: though, Jim,
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: because,
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, last night we had a fantasy draft, and it was, this one was just Yahoo.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Like, I can't not drink while picking players.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: No.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: So I had a glass and a half of whiskey, actually, evil distillery.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: My old high school teammate, Brian Scharf, has got an excellent distillery down here as well.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: If you like bourbon, check it out.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: It's fantastic.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: So I was sipping on that,
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: and then I forgot that, yeah,
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Friday morning is circuits at Rock City Fitness,
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: my sister's gym, and that 4 a.m. alarm went off.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: I was feeling it.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: I was feeling it.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: 39 years old.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Do you put in research for your fantasy?
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: I'm curious.
- 7:43Oh, man.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: It's a great question.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to see your level of commitment.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: So the level of commitment is...
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: What's less than 0% right now in terms of preparation for a fantasy track?
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: I always use 0.0 from Animal House.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: Lutarski's GPA is what I always say, 0.0.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: I played fantasy my whole life, started this league.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Our other league is all family members.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: And started that in 97.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: So I was 10 years old.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: And that was back when the USA Today came out on Monday and I would just add up the scores.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: You didn't know if you won until Monday, adding up yards and touchdowns and all of that.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Late games.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, late games.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: So back then, even up until having kids, it was pretty intense.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: And I'd make my own list and do all that.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: Keyword, did I just hear kids?
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm saying.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: I got you.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: Work slash kids.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: this is a busy time for covering pro football,
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: wrapping up these season preview features, planning things out for the year.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's the kids.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: We're at six, five, and one.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: School just started.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: It was, you know, it's funny.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: As I told Gina, I said, look, I'll take him through the baths.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: I'll read some books here, but the draft's at eight.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: By 735, 740, I need to put in at least 15 to 20 minutes of research here before the draft.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: And that's exactly what I did.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: I found a Matthew Barry column.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Actually, I texted Matt.
- 9:12SPEAKER_01: He's great, great dude.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: That's a strong flex.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: I said, hey.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: That's a strong flex.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Well, did your league know that you did that?
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, they can.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: You just broke news.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: I don't know if that's allowed.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: Matthew Barry assistance.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Trust me, I am at no advantage covering football
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: and fantasy
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: football.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: I tell everybody with fantasy football,
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: when I used to play a long time ago, I don't care that I worked in the NFL.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: They used to say, I'm not letting you in this fantasy league.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: I'm like,
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: if I could predict stats and actual what's going to happen in games,
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't be in this league.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: Like, I promise you I wouldn't be playing fantasy if I actually could tell you what's going on.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Like, to your point,
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: working in the NFL, knowing football does not help you in fantasy or gambling.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: At all.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, at all.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: At all.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: It's fun, though.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: I like the league.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: I like when you have, like, longtime leagues, friends from high school.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: The banter's usually tough.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: Like, good banter.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: It's the best.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, 100%.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, the old message boards on myfantasyleague.com with second cousins,
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Button heads, some legendary tails there in our family.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: Was there a reach,
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: like a first round reach that everybody said who,
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: like, I'm curious, like, was there a player that's like, whoa.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: I probably got the most, and for what it's worth, Yahoo, they do their instant AI draft grades.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: I got a D-.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: So that's my,
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: and I think why,
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: I did take old Tootin there in Jacksonville at the very top of the third round.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: I mean- I will say,
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: in our predictions, we just completely forgot about the Jags and the Jaguars.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: And a Jags fan called us out on it, and I
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: loved it.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about them.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: It's funny you're saying that.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: I just told somebody that's one team I have completely...
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: I refuse to believe in.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: That's the way I'm going to say it.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: I refuse to think they're good.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: We'll talk about it.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: For somebody to say that we just skipped over them in those predictions is completely true.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: I remember thinking...
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: No, I'm like, no, I don't think they can do it again.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm not a believer.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: I like the coach.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: I like the roster.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: It looks good.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: There's talent.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: What are we not?
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's get into Jacksonville.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: What is it?
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, for me, I'm just not a Trevor guy.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: I can't get into him enough to think he is going to be able.
- 11:30SPEAKER_02: Now, not that he's not good.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: He's just on that cusp of,
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: I talk about all the time,
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: you have to self-evaluate as an NFL team after the season and be correct
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: on your team.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: Carolina's going through it, Bryce Young.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: Houston's going through it with CJ Stroud.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Are they the guy to get you to where you need to go?
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: I feel like with Lawrence,
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: I feel like I know there's people that question him coming out of college.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Is he truly a one?
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: Is he the guy, the number one pick guy?
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: I think what he's proven is He's a good starter if everything else is around.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: A defense, a running game, like a lot of quarterbacks.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: A good system quarterback.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: I think that's what he is, and that's where I'm at with him.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: In the AFC, that doesn't do it for me.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: If I thought Lawrence was a tad better, I think I could buy into Jacksonville.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: I don't trust him enough to buy into him.
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: I just think there's too many good quarterbacks in the AFC I have ahead of him.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: That's a strong argument, Jim.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: That's where I'm at, yeah.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: That's probably where I'm at.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: I think he's better
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: than C.J.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Stroud.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I could say that yet.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: I feel like they're on that.
- 12:30SPEAKER_02: I'm right there with you.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: I like what I've seen from Stroud more, but to be honest, I wouldn't argue that.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: I would not argue Trevor and Stroud.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Where's the special with this team?
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Is the dude that terrifies you on the entire roster, right?
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: We were having that conversation with the Bills defense last week
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: and you made some great points there, but I don't know if I did.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you've got Josh Allen, a quarterback.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that's the play a certain brand of chaos defensively.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: I'm looking up there.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Like we're getting to with Jacksonville.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: When you look at their depth chart and your game planning for this team,
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: I don't think there's one or two.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: A plus a level players that jumps off the screen.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: But they're deep.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: They're solid.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: They did beat up your Denver Broncos last year, correct?
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, not really.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: Not in the playoffs.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Not in the regular season, they took it to them.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: You know how I feel about the regular season.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I hear you.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: No, I'm not trying to say Jacksonville's not good.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: But to your point, okay,
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: now here's the receiver that everybody's that we need to get
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: on is Parker Washington.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: That is the guy.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: That I feel like we're going to find out more about him.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: And if he is,
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: like Brian Thomas,
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: who has been a complete,
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: you just can't win Super Bowls with guys that are going to break your heart.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: But we know about his talent.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: I think now, is Parker Washington a six-round pick?
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: Is he really this good?
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: I like what I've seen.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: I need to study more before I want to say.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: We have a question at running back.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: Do we really believe in the running back?
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: So the question marks, I think, are what preventing us.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: And then you're in the AFC.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, Lawrence did throw for 4,000 yards and 29 touchdowns.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, everybody's.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: He's pretty good.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not saying he's not good.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: The offense is a juggernaut with that coach, too.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: And that's where I'd be.
- 14:27SPEAKER_02: I like the coach.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: After we submitted our predictions and I heard from this Jag fan,
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: that's where my mind went is the coach, Liam Cohen.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: I do like it.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Everything you hear about him around the NFL is he's somebody
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: that drives his assistants very hard.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: He's got a plan.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: He sticks to it.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: I like his attitude.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: He doesn't ask you to do anything he wouldn't do himself, and then his acumen offensively.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: He was able to do that in year one with Trevor Lawrence,
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: another offseason, regardless of these names on the screen.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: So we'll talk about it.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: I'm going to be tracking Reuben Bain for Tampa all year,
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: obviously, because we do know that the NFL has no chance to block Reuben Bain.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: Just like Aaron Donald, who's coming back, we now have no chance to block him.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: Believe it or not, the last year he played, I did check.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: He went 10 games without a sack.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: I know it's hard to believe.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: I just saw a nice game.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: They just showed every block when he played Dallas the one year and went
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: against Zach Martin and got absolutely annihilated against Zach Martin.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: My point is,
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: I know these guys are obviously Aaron Donald's an all-timer,
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: but my goodness, we just rushed.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Nobody can win, and these guys can't block Aaron Donald or Reuben Bain.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: I just need to think we just got to take a little pause on these unblockable players
- 15:39SPEAKER_02: and let's see what happens.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: Another guy that I think is going to be exposed is Travis Hunter.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: I said this in the draft.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: He's got to be a corner.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Receiver, you're a dime a dozen, six foot.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: At the end of the day, he's not a blazer.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: He's a good speed.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: He's got great hands, but he's not a great route runner, which is interesting for a corner.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: When you watch Travis Hunter as a corner in college,
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: especially when he went against the two NFL receivers he went against at Colorado in
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: the Arizona...
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: Stanford, I believe, were the two NFL receivers that he went against.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: He got destroyed, couldn't cover him, got out muscled, and he doesn't have a real fluid.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: He's not a fluid like cover, quick twitch guy because he is six feet.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: He's got unbelievable length and ball skills as a corner.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: If you throw near him, it can get picked, which is his rare quality as a corner.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: It's why you want him.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: It's why I thought he should always be a corner because of the ball skills.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: But he has cover issues.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: I don't think he's true speed.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: So I think Travis Hunter,
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: Reuben Bain, Donald, like these guys, I'm paying attention to a lot of these guys.
- 16:40SPEAKER_02: Point is, was that a wasted pick for Jacksonville?
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: There is like this subset of cult heroes that develop through the course of
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: a seven-month lull in the calendar, right?
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: There's no games from the first week of February to the first week of September.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: It's a lot of time for the legends to build and for the memes to meme and for X to be X.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: And there's Reuben Bain with the really cool face mask.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: I think he'll be better than you do.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, if speed and athleticism matter for defensive ends,
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: which they do, the guy has limited athleticism and speed.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: There's a reason he didn't work out at the Combine Ours Pro Day.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Fine.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Then doesn't mean he's not a good, tough player with hand use and power, which he has.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying,
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: usually guys that have speed and athleticism are the guys that you are terrified of.
- 17:33SPEAKER_02: A guy that is just pure power,
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: there's tackles that are going to be like,
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: okay, I'm in for a long day against Reuben Bain.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: But if there's no fear of running by you or making you miss as a tackle,
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: which I like to say when you give that little juke move, I mean,
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: I think some of those tackles will take that over going against,
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: the guys that are just going to could blow by you or hit that counter move
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: and dart back inside.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: That's my point on Bane.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Well, and you make a great point on how these narratives can really build up.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, Travis Hunter into that 2025 NFL draft,
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: I was taking a hook, line, and sinker of this being a transcendent level talent.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: And then you listen to the GM,
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: James Gladstone,
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: dissect the pick and the decision and was waxing poetic on how this is somebody
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: that could transform the sport itself.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: It was over the top.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: They won 13 games in spite of Travis Hunter, which is wild.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: It's like he wasn't even on the team.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's almost like the Pistons won a championship with Darko Milicic riding the bench.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: These decisions eventually, I'm not saying he's Darko Milicic.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: I'm not going to declare Travis Hunter a bust, but you got to see something.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: And where is his home?
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: I don't really know where it is.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: No, it's corner,
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: I think.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Outside corner, nickel.
- 18:44SPEAKER_02: Outside.
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: He's got to get physical, get up, use your size and length.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: To your point,
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: though, to why maybe we shouldn't be sleeping on Jacksonville is they did win that.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: They've already proven they're a good team without him.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: They don't really
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: need him.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: They beat the piss out of the Chargers.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: They beat the piss out of the Broncos.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: That Bills game in the wild card came down to the finish.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: They lost, and Trevor Lawrence had a turnover.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: I get it.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: Chances, though.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: It wasn't like they were just embarrassed.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: No.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: I kind of regret not factoring them into things here,
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: but it's easy to when you look at the AFC,
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: and this is an NFC episode, so we'll get to the NFC.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: But, you know, when you look at the quarterbacks, I think that's why we overlooked them.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: It's Josh Allen,
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: it's Drake May,
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, Lamar
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Jackson, it's Murderer's
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Row.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: The best roster might be Jacksonville.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: Can't argue that.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Might be.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: With a formidable pass rush, we know they have good pass rushers.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: So to your point, they hit a lot of things we like.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: Coach, I just need to see Trevor do it.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: I need to believe in Trevor more.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: That's what it is.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: That's what holds me back.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: That defense is a great point.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: It's real.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, you're talking about.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Well, Heinz Allen,
- 20:05SPEAKER_02: I like him.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: He's been approving.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Their defensive coordinator, Anthony Campanelli, so he was in Green Bay as an assistant.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: I cannot tell you how many times his name has come up.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Like for a head?
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Just talking to players and coaches.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: They loved his speeches.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: He was the coach in some of these midweek speeches that would really get guys jacked up.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: And it was authentic.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: He's got a thick New Jersey accent.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: And he's really, really smart schematically with what he can do.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Could be a name to keep an eye on for head coach if they keep this up.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: So I feel like I should just get on my phone right now and put a Jacksonville to win the AFC.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: I know, we're talking to ourselves.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Did Bob not put them in our?
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: No, I don't think so.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: Go Long is anti Jacksonville.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: It's official.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: We have to at least own.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: It pains me.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: I know, and that's one of your favorite places.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: You always say their PR team does a great job and they just get it.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: They're not about trying to manipulate and control messaging, which.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Is the case elsewhere?
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: So Jacksonville is one we're going to keep our eye on.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Let's talk NFC, though.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: NFC is where we're at.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, so let's jump to another note from a reader in light of those predictions at the site.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: It's a good one, quality one.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: They think you're out of your mind, Jim Monis.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Because, which I am.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: Because you had Matt LaFleur on the hot seat, yet Green Bay in the Super Bowl.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: We're going to spend a lot of time getting into the Green Bay Packers.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: You'll also hear Bob McGinn.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: He's back as well as Jim Onis this 2026 NFL season.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: So that NFC North podcast, we'll be getting that revved up momentarily.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: But we want to get Jim Onis, our longtime exec scout on the Green Bay Packers.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Can you take us through that thought process?
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: So...
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: An unacceptable playoff loss,
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: which we talked about,
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: and I don't ever,
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: I'm not that guy that always says coaches should be fired,
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: but there's been talk before,
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: LaFleur was on the hot seat before in Green Bay,
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: and you lose a game like that in the playoffs, ridiculous to me.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: I blame coaches for that, you gotta stop the bleeding, that's your game to win.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Okay, they have a couple ways to go, they could have fired him, what do they do?
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Little extension.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: Fair enough.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: I appreciate loyalty, too.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: He has put the time in.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: The wins speak for themselves.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: So the hot seat comes from this team went out and got Michael Parsons for a reason,
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: which is the equivalent to Miles Garrett and Donald and Watt and TJ Watt.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: That's your defense of Mahomes.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: You got that.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: You went and got it.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: Your team, your GM, Handpick this quarterback, and he is the guy.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: He is good enough to win a Super Bowl with.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: We've seen it.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: So your only success this year is to be in the Super Bowl.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: And my thing is,
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: if it doesn't go well or it gets a little,
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: something happens and they lose early,
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: that's where I could see LaFleur maybe saying, hey, enough.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: You know, because the expectations are Super Bowl.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: The extensions don't matter.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: We all know that nothing matters like that.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: So that's why I'm saying it.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: I think they're built to be in the Super Bowl.
- 23:17SPEAKER_02: If not, I could see them moving on from the floor.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: So hot seat, not necessarily hot, but the expectations I think he has to deliver.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Hot more, I think when you say hot, it could be game eight.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Somebody could get fired game eight.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: I don't necessarily see that.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: I think he coaches the season, but the season better end NFC Championship Super Bowl.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: Because, yeah, he was retained.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: There was a contract negotiations.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: There were extensions.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: I'll say this.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: There's a there's like a quadruple padlock lock to the information
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: as pertaining those extensions and the details of what did Brian Goodikens get?
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: What did Matt LaFleur get?
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Are they aligned?
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Are they not aligned?
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: There's people on staff that do not know.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: And typically that information is rarely is leaked to the public, especially in Green Bay.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: But in this specific case, this is me talking.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure the coach and the GM are both aligned, joined at the hip.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, LaFleur reports to Ed Policy, the new president.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Brian Gutekind reports to Ed Policy.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Russ Ball, the contract, man, he reports to Ed Policy.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: So it's siloed off,
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: and Ed Policy is going to look at this thing zoomed out,
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: and I would think logically – Reached the same conclusion that you just did,
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: that I have as well.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: This is a Green Bay Packers team that found its franchise quarterback
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: and paid its franchise quarterback.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: And Jordan Love, $55 million a year.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Developed him for three years as a backup.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: He has now started for three years.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: You can pull up any metric you want to pull up.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: He's near the top of that list.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Big, strong.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: All of it.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Rifle.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: All of it.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: They've been drafting wide receivers nonstop to the point where, okay,
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: you lose Romeo Dobbs, you lose Dontavian Wicks, but you've drafted Matthew Golden.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: You're bringing Tucker Craft back from injury at tight end.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: Jaden Reed, Christian Watson are now both paid.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: Loaded.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: The offensive line, they've invested there in the draft and in free agency.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: Running back is a story for another day.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Another day.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Josh Jacobs' court day, right before we hit record, got moved up.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: That, yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: Of course, every head could be his...
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: You know, could save the floor.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Hey, didn't know, you know, didn't know I wasn't going to have my running back.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: But then they made the move.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: You can't say that the Green Bay Packers are allergic to F them picks and winning now.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: They pushed those chips in.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: They traded multiple first-arm picks.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: They handed Micah Parsons all that money.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: They made the move.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Brian Kudikens made the move for Micah Parsons.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: And he's got talent around him.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: They've got those violent,
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: just malignant,
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: nasty dudes that have been missing in Green Bay,
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: covering that team that lost in the playoffs every year.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: They've been missing that player who is going to cross a line,
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: who's going to say something out of line,
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: who's going to get into an offensive player's face.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: They haven't had that guy in those key moments.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: In the playoffs years past, I feel like they do.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Javon Bullard, Devontae Wyatt, Edger and Cooper, Evan Williams.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: It's on coaching to mold this talent in a way that gets you to a Super Bowl.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: And there's a lot that goes into that psychologically, let alone schematically.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: I think that Matt LaFleur is a Brilliant offensive mind.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: He's revered around the NFL.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: I get, I get keeping him.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: I do too.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: But how do you get that killer instinct is the question.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: And he has been emphasizing behind the scenes,
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: finishing every drill,
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: finishing every meeting,
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: finishing,
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: finishing,
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: finishing to somehow subconsciously get that to the forefront
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: of every player's mind.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: So when you're up 21 to three against Chicago, you don't blow it.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Um, But yeah, I'm with you.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: The pressure should be on him this year.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: And I think
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: it is.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Regardless of what the contracts look like.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: It always is.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: It always is.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: And Green Bay, especially.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: What's the...
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: I didn't even... Is Jacobs... Is there an official timeline?
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: And nothing yet.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: He's on the commissioner exempt list.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: So the NFL is conducting its investigation.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: I believe the...
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: The prosecution there is a tape that exists, but Brian Goodkin said he hasn't seen it.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: The league didn't deny that they've seen it.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: That's what could
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: make it.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: If it's ugly.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Fair enough.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Isn't it sad that you have to see it to believe it, too?
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Yes, it is.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Sad state of affairs.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: What you said, show for another day, maybe.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: I mean,
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: we also have a woman who murdered her own children and has admitted to it and That's
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: a podcast for another day.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: Can you imagine?
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: Unbelievable.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: You lose a little faith in humanity seeing the reaction to that.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: All right, so that was my Green Bay spin on Hot Seat Slash.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: I do think if the running back stays out of jail
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: and their franchise defensive end comes off injury,
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: That's why I think they are good enough to make this football.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Even without Josh Jacobs, I like their chance.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Fair enough.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: It's just, he is, I do like him.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: Especially when you have, you know how I believe in football.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Score early, get the lead, choke him out in the fourth with the running game.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: That's what we did in New Orleans.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Saw it work, believe it.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: Sean Payton believes it.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: That's why the Broncos are built that way.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: And that's why I picked the Broncos to win the AFC.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: So I'm going, that's why I'm taking Green Bay.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: So go ahead with your NFC.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: One final note on Green Bay too.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: Matt Hasselbeck had a conversation with him about Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: Made some great points on just embracing the boring.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: And he really thinks that Matt LaFleur and that coaching staff would be able
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: to point to seven or eight plays from last season that if Jordan Love is just,
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: he's not,
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: bouncing around on his feet,
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: just stays sturdy,
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: just the simplest things,
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: then it's a completely different season than maybe those Super Bowl champs.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: But in that conversation, he noted, uh, Their run game, he's pretty plugged in.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: You're going to see more inside,
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: outside zone stuff, you know, instead of just straight ahead power.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: And that kind of gets back to the McVay principles.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Does that create more big plays in the passing game?
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: They were a big play offense last year,
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: and I think they had the least amount of possessions in the NFL.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: So really interested to see what the identity of this Packers offense is.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: There will be a ton on Jordan Love's shoulders.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: No Jacobs, no Parsons.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: He's going to have to put up points.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: He's good enough to do it.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: And he's good enough to do it.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: And then every January, it's always on the quarterback.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: So it's about Jordan Love.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: We can talk about LaFleur until our eyes bleed.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Hasselbeck, that's a great point.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: And I agree with him.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: Every game with Love, we talked about it.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: You do hold your breath.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: There's probably like two or three throws every game.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: You just jaw drop.
- 30:24SPEAKER_02: Like, why did you do that?
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: I'm so glad they dropped that pick.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: Or I'm so glad you overthrew that pick.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Like, he does take his chances.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: The great ones, they kind of all do,
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: though.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Give me that, right?
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: That's the only reason I'm going to say I'm okay with it, but I know what he means.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: We're all good with it until it gets you in the playoffs.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: I went with the Detroit Lions out of the NFC.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: I feel like you've been picking them.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: This is your, whatever year this is for Go Long.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Another very fair criticism that, uh, We receive by we and me and myself and Bob to an extent.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: I feel like I'm going to say the same thing I've said.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: The Dan Campbell love fest.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: Cannot love him as what he brings.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: He's everything a football coach should be.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: Guilty as charged.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: That's what I want out of my coach.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Get to the next guy that we, the guy
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: that is the guy.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: It's golf.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: This is the same thing I've said every year.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: And then you go into why they're going to do it this year.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Because this isn't my team.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: I do love Detroit as far as they're going to be Everything about their team,
- 31:28SPEAKER_02: they're built right, like Brad Holmes, the head coach, they got it right.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: The quarterback just, I don't think he can ever do it in the playoffs.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: I always think he's the Achilles heel.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: Not that he's not talented, but he has a fatal flaw.
- 31:42SPEAKER_02: He can't move.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: And it's any coordinator will tell you,
- 31:46SPEAKER_02: take me, let me go against golf any day of the week over anybody else that can move.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: That's just life as a D coordinator.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: Until golf,
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: until that, Yeah,
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: if they can get the lead and all that, if their defense was better, then maybe.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: But for me,
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: when you have Goff as your quarterback,
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: your defense better be lights out because those games when he is struggling
- 32:08SPEAKER_02: or they're having a tough time pass protecting or not running the ball on offense,
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: you're going to need your defense to keep that score down.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: And that's just where I always struggle with Goff.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: Not that he's not.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: He's proven everything as a system pocket-passing quarterback.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: Sign me up.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: He is what you want.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he doesn't move.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: He is very stationary.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: That's all I'm saying.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: I think, though, that his football brain is at a different level.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: I would agree.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: And the way he can read coverages,
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: the way he can get inside of your head as a defensive coordinator
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: and not vice versa is rare.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: He had an excellent interview,
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: I think it was with Robert Mays on their podcast,
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: and just the way he was dissecting Specific plays and this safety is moving
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: over here because of this and that cornerbacks doing this because of that.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: And he he's doing this all in real time.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: And with each game and each season,
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: this stuff adds up and some quarterbacks can retain it and you harness it
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: and weaponize that information.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: And some can't,
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: I, I feel like games in January are one more between the ears than with your legs.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: And I just feel like it's going to happen for Jared Goff at some point.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: It hasn't been pretty at the end of some of these seasons.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: At the same time, you have seen him excel in some of these colder games.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: I don't think the climate conversation is real.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: I'm not doing climate.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: I'm not doing climate either.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: I don't bother.
- 33:38SPEAKER_02: That doesn't bother me.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: Especially in the NFC versus the AFC.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Agree again.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: Agree again.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: I'm not into that either.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: And yeah, like he has to be protected.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's why Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell,
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: they started on the offensive line with Panay Sewell and that group.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: And now the only player from that group That's left is Panay Sewell.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: So they've kind of turned that over.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: I think it's in a good place now.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: The great quarterbacks get rid of the ball, to your point.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: I'm saying he needs that
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: protection.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but to your point, though, he is Peyton.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: He is that level mind, which...
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: I'd put him in the top.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Top minds?
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: Top five, maybe top three in that category.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: There's always your,
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: we talk about this all the time,
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: there's your rare talented quarterbacks,
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: your Mahomes, your Rodgers, your Favre, your Elways, your Staffords.
- 34:27SPEAKER_02: Those guys are rare talents.
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Then you have your rare,
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: your good talents with rare minds and accuracy,
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: like the Breezes, the Bradys, the Peyton Mannings, the Goffs.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: There's like two classes of quarterbacks who can win with both, obviously.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: You know, it's just which one do you have?
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: And that's golf's in that.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: That's a great company to be in, but everything else better be right to get there.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, you were the director of personnel with the Buffalo Bills when he came into the league.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: I was at his pro day.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: You were at his pro day.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: You did a lot of work on Wentz,
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: but you were probably looking at golf too,
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: even though, you
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: know, you're not going to draft him.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we weren't, right.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: That wasn't a year.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: We weren't taking one.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: No, I feel like, Tyler, it's crazy.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: I feel like I'm having the same conversation right now that we had the year he came out.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Not one thing has changed.
- 35:21SPEAKER_02: He is everything you want except that one thing that scares me to death.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: What happens when it gets crazy in that pocket?
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Getting out of trouble is, you can't put a value on this anymore.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: It is the most third and eight.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: And you get that blitz and you have that coverage.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: Everything works right.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: And he spins, whoever it is, spins out.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Mahomes, Josh Allen spins out of that blitz where it looks like it's over.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: And there's that 11 yard first down and it's like jaw dropping.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: And what happens after that?
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: They go right back downfield and score.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: It always happens.
- 35:53SPEAKER_02: It's what I just,
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: that's how I envision if I'm picking number one,
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: I want my quarterback to have that part of his game.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: That's all I'm saying.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: He has everything else.
- 36:02SPEAKER_02: That's what makes Josh Allen just a diabolical killer.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: Separator for me.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: And that's probably why you're fairly bullish on Caleb Williams is he's got that escapability.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: Like crazy escapability.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: The question is, can he get all this other stuff?
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: There it is.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: There it is.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: Kenny, what do you think?
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: And you know how I feel about him.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: I thought he took a step.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: I still like that combo.
- 36:26SPEAKER_02: Here we are in a division again, this division.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: I think I took three teams from that division to make it.
- 36:31SPEAKER_02: I got to remember if I did Caleb or not.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: But point is, yes, he gets that in his game.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: When he knows the coverage, like Goff knows it, like Peyton used to know it, Brady knew it.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: I don't know what you do with Caleb Williams if he knows that.
- 36:47SPEAKER_02: Because he is, seriously, throwing the football, and I know you've seen it.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: It might be as good as it gets, watching what he can do throwing.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: It's a fairly gargantuan if.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Jim, I mean, he never has been that type of quarterback.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: He's always relied on creativity, improvisation.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: And look, he won a Heisman Trophy.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: He was the first overall pick.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: We've documented his year one in Chicago and what Ben Johnson could do for him.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: He bought into what Ben Johnson was instructing.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: At the same time, before those magical plays, it was ugly.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: You can't live that way.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: To your point, I thought you did a great job of illustrating that last year.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: We talked about this year, we did our NFC North preview.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: You can't live that way.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: You can't.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: So let's see if he takes the next step.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: That is his next step.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: Right now, he's on that other side of the rare physical quarterback that doesn't exist.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: That's Caleb.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: Now, can he get that Brady, Peyton Manning, Goff, Drew Brees?
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: He's saying all the right things.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's been making the interview rounds with the Madden cover,
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: and then he was on that Hot Ones podcast.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: Did you catch that where they asked him to just kind of freelance on what he loves
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: about those quarterbacks?
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Randall Cunningham, which he's a cannon.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: And Tom Brady, killer.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: And Patrick Mahomes.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: I forget what he said about Mahomes.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: But then he goes, Caleb Williams, and he said all the above.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Got to think that way.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: The great ones all do.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: They do.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's been talking that way all offseason.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: Tom Brady put out a Tom Brady.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: Here we go again.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: When doesn't he talk or put out something every day?
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: The only owner of the team that's in the media every day.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: But he put out his like, you know, best quality of a quarterback.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: Who has it?
- 38:38SPEAKER_02: I thought it was pretty good.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: I don't have it off the top of my head.
- 38:41SPEAKER_02: We could look I could look it up.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Actually, it just came out.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: But to your point.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: Brady gets it.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: I like lists like that.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Like the guys that who is the, there are that, you know, it's Drew Brees.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: I mean, he is the dart thrower of all time quarterbacks.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: And I think we all agree on that.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: Like Lamar and Vic.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, it just, they don't exist.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: Like those guys are just different.
- 39:03SPEAKER_02: It's fascinating though,
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: because Ben Johnson,
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: the reason that he got the job was what he did in Detroit with Jared golf with
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: that type of quarterback.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: And then, I forget exactly when he said it.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: There was the press conference.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he meant to throw shade at golf,
- 39:21SPEAKER_01: but paraphrasing said, hey,
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: it's nice to have a quarterback who can make some plays off platform and move
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: a little bit.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: He can really move.
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: He's under, like, I don't know if it gets talked about.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: You made up a good point.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying, though,
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: Ben is going to want him to run his offense and go through the reads he wants him
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: to go through to take that next step.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: Yes, and as soon as he can break out and make one of those magical plays
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: when it wasn't open,
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: that's when the coach will also say, I am so glad he can move around.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: You know it goes both ways.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: You just have to have it in your bag.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: But you do have to do what the coach wants, to your point.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think he's coming around.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: We're just going to find out in two weeks.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: It does seem like we have – maybe it's just because we talk football all the time year-round.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: But this offseason,
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: it does seem like the gap between the Super Bowl and
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: the first game I'll never get it.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: I just don't understand why we can't play in better weather.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: Like, move the season up.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: Because this is what happens.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: We end up, people are putting out lists of insanities.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: Like, you see what I'm saying?
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: We've talked about, we left Jacksonville off a 13-win team.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: I feel like, anyway.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: But point is, we're to the point now where we need to see games.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: I need to see if Caleb's taking the next step.
- 40:31SPEAKER_02: I want to see, you know, is golf, is this Detroit offensive line?
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: Let's go back to Detroit quick.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: Are you worried about that offensive line being reconstructed?
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: You do?
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: You feel good about it?
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: It was a hard decision.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: We got into it with Justin Rogers a couple weeks ago.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Breaking up is never easy.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: But Taylor Decker was past his prime.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: They couldn't get
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: to the right number.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Well said.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: I think Panay Sewell, we'll see how he moves to the left side.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: That's a big unknown.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, moving from one side to the other, I think, is a tougher transition.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: That anybody realizes that you got it right in front of you.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Sat down with Tate Rallage.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: He's basically created in a Dan Campbell lab
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: with how he's wired mentally.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: They drafted Blake Miller in the first round out of Clemson.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: So they took that step too.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: And then they traded for Juice Scruggs from Houston.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: So they've drafted guys.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: They've developed guys.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: They've made this a concerted effort.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: So I would think so.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, look, Jameer Gibbs averaged less than four yards a carry.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: In like five of his last six games, something like that.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: Jameer Gibbs.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that overtime house call against the Giants and then disappeared.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: That can't happen.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: And you need the protection for Jared Goff.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm feeling good about it.
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: So I now have my next rookie I'm going to be paying attention to, Blake Miller.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: That is a first-round right tackle getting thrown into this basically ready-made team.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: I haven't studied him and I'm going to, so I shouldn't say too much.
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: But I'm going to just start off by telling you as a longtime Southeast scout,
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure I've ever scouted a good offensive lineman that came out of Clemson.
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: I'm just going to start and stop there before I watch tape on him.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: But if he is not what I think needs to be at right tackle,
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: I think that could be an issue for them because of what we just talked about
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: with Mr. Goff.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: So let's just let's hold on.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: But I have now Blake Miller, Reuben Bain.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: And the fullback, Stopper,
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: and Travis Hunter for
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: Jackson.
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: And the fullback, Stopper, Reese.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: Don't say his name.
- 42:42SPEAKER_02: Tyler, got to do something first.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: But, yeah, we're good.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Stay on that topic real quick, though, Clemson.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: So, gosh,
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: it would have been two or three years ago when Miles Murphy was coming out
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: in his draft series.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: Bob wrote a story about the Clemson curse.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: And it's disgust amongst scouts like yourself.
- 43:04SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: On how Dabo Sweeney just sells you a bunch of BS.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: He won't say a bad word about any of his guys.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: So you can't trust him because everything's positive.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Everybody's back to when Deshaun Watson's going to be the Michael Jordan in the NFL.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: Whoever said this is great.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: Remember that line?
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: And it's.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: Lovey-dovey.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: And it goes back to coddling these guys.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: They're not pushed and challenged.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: Not like you'd get out of a Nick Saban or a Kirby Smart, obviously.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: And then look at the D linemen out of Clemson that have busted out.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Dexter Lawrence, obviously.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: Behemoth, beast.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: The list of busts, the list of underachievers is long.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: I remember sitting down with Vic Beasley.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: For a piece once in VR.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: And he had that one crazy season when Atlanta got to the Super Bowl.
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: I'm telling you, shaking his hand, speaking to him.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: It was different.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: He wasn't wired like most edge rushers who take over the game.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: So there is something to Clemson.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: And I talked to Brandon Bean about it when we sat down for that one-on-one.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: They drafted TJ Parker with their top pick in the second round.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: And he said, you really got to take it case by case.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: He was aware of the Clemson stigma.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: They don't want to just lump everybody in the same bucket.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: You don't.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: It's something you have to look at, though, when you're building a team.
- 44:22SPEAKER_02: I think this with the O-line at Clemson.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: At the end of the day, they're really, they haven't been bust.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: They just haven't, like, they're not overdrafted.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: They don't even put them out.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: Like, they don't even, like,
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: we'd go in there and we're just like,
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: but when you have basically four NFL skill guys,
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: Just like all pro starting NFL players at quarterback,
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: running back, and receiver at Clemson.
- 44:44SPEAKER_02: It goes back to my point.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: Just give me five guys up front.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: We're going to get that right.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: We got four skill guys getting ready to get drafted in the first round.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: I mean, you're looking at Sammy.
- 44:53SPEAKER_02: That team, we were from Sammy Watkins and who was the other receiver that went to the Steelers?
- 44:59SPEAKER_02: Robert Woods.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: Well, no, that's the Bills team.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: I was talking about the Clemson team.
- 45:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm jumping right to your –
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: Martavis Bryant.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: Bryant was on that – like,
- 45:08SPEAKER_01: come on now.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: Like, how is that even?
- 45:10SPEAKER_02: DeAndre Hopkins.
- 45:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, come on.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, we're talking about three first-round NFL starting quality NFL receivers.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: So you can put every one up front.
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: Dabo probably wasn't recruiting that hard once he landed those guys.
- 45:23SPEAKER_02: Like, hey, who'd you guys get at tackle?
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 45:25SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: We did just fine.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: I've done it too long with Clemson.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: Like, they just never – they're not busts.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: Now, this guy would be a bust, a first-rounder.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: You don't usually see Clemson Lyman go first round.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: So Blake Miller is on the radar, the Go Long Rookie Court NFL Unstoppable Radar.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: While we're on Blake Miller, let's pull up what the scouts told McGinn about him.
- 45:48SPEAKER_02: Let me see if I can guess,
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: while you're doing that,
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: let me see if I can get a couple clips on him just to get a quick little,
- 45:53SPEAKER_02: see what his numbers were.
- 45:54SPEAKER_02: All right, so, I mean, they...
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: Here's what one evaluator said.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: He's got incredible numbers.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: He tested off the charts just to start there.
- 46:11SPEAKER_01: Just a man's man.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: Wins you over with his leadership.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: You can see this guy running for Congress someday.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: I don't like that.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: I want Congress.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: I want jail.
- 46:22SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, yes.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: I want my guy.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: I want my tackles.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: I want borderline.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: They may go to jail if you try to get around that edge.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: I'm not trying to win Congress on that.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: Hold on.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: Well, there you go.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: Maybe I should rethink my Lions pick.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: They've got to get a few more convicts in there.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: Hold on.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: We're going to go.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: I'm going to watch him, though.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: That'll be a weekend.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: But you know what?
- 46:42SPEAKER_01: You're always saying the offensive line isn't that important, right?
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: Overvalued.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: Overvalued.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: It's extremely important.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: Overvalued.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: But one tackle, a first round, and the rest you can find.
- 46:52SPEAKER_01: Amon Ross, Sam Brown, James Williams, Sam Laporta, Jameer Gibbs.
- 46:55SPEAKER_02: Yes, get rid of the ball.
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: Loaded.
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: Agreed.
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: To your point.
- 46:59SPEAKER_02: And the great ones, get rid of the ball.
- 47:02SPEAKER_02: The great ones, as far as this, golf will get rid of the ball.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: Drew Petsing, we'll see what his offense looks like.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: It'll be different.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: I think they'll have a more diverse Russian attack with Gibbs, with him.
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: He's a creative guy.
- 47:14SPEAKER_02: I'm nitpicking on just trying to see where the offense could take a hiccup.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: Elsewhere in the NFC then, Jim,
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: is there another team you're keeping an eye on that you're going to be watching
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: the whole NFL, obviously, but which
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: team really intrigues you?
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: The other team that I guess I'm getting caught up in is Dallas.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: I'm a Dak guy, and I look at that division as he brings...
- 47:41SPEAKER_02: The Eagles Hurts has his, you know, issues with is he the guy or not?
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: I still have never seen a number one receiver want to leave a great quarterback.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: I'll just stick with that.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: A.J.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: Brown couldn't leave fast enough.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: Washington, we know.
- 47:53SPEAKER_02: Is Dan Quinn good enough?
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: Is Daniels going to be the guy again like he was?
- 47:56SPEAKER_02: And then Dart and the hardball stuff.
- 47:59SPEAKER_02: Is that really there?
- 48:00SPEAKER_02: Now I'm looking at Dak with a loaded offense with a proven quarterback.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: I'm like, that might be the most stable team in that division.
- 48:06SPEAKER_02: So if they go ahead and win that division, then why can't they make a run?
- 48:10SPEAKER_02: So that, to me,
- 48:11SPEAKER_02: was Dallas is the team I'm watching to see if – I feel like I'm just –
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: the whole country is falling for it.
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: But, man, when you see those receivers and Dak, that's a highlight.
- 48:21SPEAKER_02: Now, obviously, can the defense be good enough?
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: But Dallas would be my team that I'm kind of keeping – like
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: a team I didn't think I would be falling in love with that I can't wait to watch.
- 48:30SPEAKER_02: Same.
- 48:32SPEAKER_02: We got to argue.
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: We didn't talk on it either.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: That's the one – Well, we argue on golf.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: We do our golf stuff for the years five or six of that.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: I love the Christian Parker hire.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: You know, he's in the division.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: He's going to know what it takes against Philly.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: He practiced against Jalen Hurts in this offense every day.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: He's familiar with their personnel.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: That's the team you have to dethrone.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: It always starts in your division first.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: And yeah,
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: number one,
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: it's him changing everything on defense away from whatever
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: the hell Matt Evenfloos was doing defensively.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, they've been bad on defense for a while in Dallas,
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: but it's crazy when you look at the shit that Jerry Jones and
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: the Cowboys justifiably took out of the Micah Parsons trade to have a talent like
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: that and to let him get away.
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: But they've recouped pretty damn well with the Quinn and Williams contract.
- 49:28SPEAKER_01: And Jerry said himself, we have to stop the run.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: And they made sure that Kenny Clark was part of that deal when they did it.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: Now you bring in Quinn and Williams.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: You draft Caleb Downs.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: They've got some, you know.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: We always
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: talk about
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: it.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: Will McClay, you know that he is a smart dude running personnel.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: He'd be one of the most sought after players.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: Like tomorrow, but he is not going anywhere.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: Everybody knows why he is running this.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: Look, the roster speaks for itself every year.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: They draft well every year.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Kobe Durant from the Rams.
- 50:05SPEAKER_01: Quentin Williams may be the best he tackled in football, one of.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Malachi Lawrence they drafted.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: Who I liked.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: I talked about him as a guy that
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: he caught my attention.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: Even as a one trick pony.
- 50:16SPEAKER_02: It's a good trick to have.
- 50:18SPEAKER_01: I'm okay with one trick ponies.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: We'll say this,
- 50:22SPEAKER_01: Rashawn Gary, I will not be able to forget his gaff on the fateful fourth and eight.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: If he just holds contained.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Where are you going, Rashawn?
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: Where are you going?
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: Against the Bears, the wild guard.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: No, it hurts.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: Coasting right inside and poor Isaiah McDuffie is posterized as he tries
- 50:43SPEAKER_01: to chase down Caleb Williams.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: But if he can give you something, I guess it's a former first-round pick.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: There's enough there to say, okay, yeah, that's a top 15 defense.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: We've talked about Caleb Downs because the offense is going to be so explosive
- 50:59SPEAKER_01: that you don't need dominance.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: Did off the defense,
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: The surprise, good team.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: Did you, Bob McGinn, and myself all pick Arizona as worst team or no?
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: It was a tough one.
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: Arizona or the Jets?
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: I think I went with the Jets.
- 51:18SPEAKER_02: Not bad.
- 51:19SPEAKER_02: No, I'm with you.
- 51:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't really think we need to waste any time.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: No, I was curious on that one.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: I just was curious if we all picked Arizona or the Jets.
- 51:28SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: Oops, I didn't mean to click that.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Let's pull up the predictions here because I want to take another look at your squad.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: Anything that was...
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: I think the surprise for me was Minnesota getting to the divisional round.
- 51:41SPEAKER_01: We've discussed the Vikings a ton.
- 51:45SPEAKER_01: I think it's going to work.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: Kyler Murray with Kevin O'Connell, Justin Jefferson, all of those weapons.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: They're...
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: There's certainly a lot that they haven't shown the world that we'll see week one
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: when it comes to what this looks like.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: And he can make every throw.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: It's about...
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: Allowing him to see the field.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: And Chase Edmonds, his former teammate, I thought he broke it down perfect.
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: He's like,
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: whether it's an RPO or wherever he is on the field,
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: he's not going to see over those D linemen.
- 52:16SPEAKER_01: It's about getting him to see what's happening at the second level.
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: So whether you manipulate the drops,
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: the launch points, get the wide zone work and work play action off of that.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: Now, can you run your passing game completely off of play action?
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: It's all fair.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: No, there'll have to be some more under center stuff.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: He did do under center stuff with Drew Petsing in Arizona,
- 52:36SPEAKER_01: so you've seen him to an extent do it.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: It remains to be seen.
- 52:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's got every reason to have the season of his life in 2026 with the Vikings.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: And you want to talk about defense, I trust Brian Flores to make life hell for quarterbacks.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, my NFC divisional teams were Detroit, Seattle, the LA Rams, and Minnesota.
- 53:02SPEAKER_01: I went Detroit over Seattle in the NFC Championship game.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: Let's not forget that Seattle did win the Super Bowl.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: Love that team.
- 53:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Rams, Rams, Rams.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: I just think it's hard to do it.
- 53:12SPEAKER_02: And Darnold,
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: as much as I do,
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: I like Darnold,
- 53:15SPEAKER_02: and he is as gifted as there is, but he does have that hold your breath.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: I don't care what you say.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: He did it last year enough that the hold your breath is still there with Darnold.
- 53:25SPEAKER_02: I always call it the gambling on Seattle.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: The Darnold experience when you bet on them is maddening.
- 53:32SPEAKER_02: When you're like, how do they win some of these games with him?
- 53:35SPEAKER_02: Because he does.
- 53:36SPEAKER_02: He does some crazy stuff.
- 53:38SPEAKER_02: He's so talented, though.
- 53:39SPEAKER_02: He really is gifted throwing the football.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: Statistically, he definitely declined the last half
- 53:46SPEAKER_02: of the season.
- 53:46SPEAKER_02: And they were still
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: winning games.
- 53:48SPEAKER_02: And still winning.
- 53:49SPEAKER_01: He plays better.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: They may have the best receiver in the NFL, by the way.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: I don't see much.
- 53:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, I still see Seattle being in the mix, for sure.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: I just think it's hard to get back.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: I'm going off just that, really.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: I just think it's hard to get back.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: They're loaded, capable, for sure.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: NFC South, I was surprised that you didn't have New Orleans.
- 54:11SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: I was hyping them up.
- 54:13SPEAKER_01: I wanted to, and then I just,
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: maybe I got fooled with the old faithful.
- 54:20SPEAKER_02: I like, there's something about championship.
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: Foles and Mayfield, they're playing for, their jobs are on the line.
- 54:29SPEAKER_02: Mayfield's playing contract.
- 54:31SPEAKER_02: Which will happen, which I think is good.
- 54:33SPEAKER_02: And Bowles has to win there.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: I said it before, I think Tampa could be a landing spot for Sean McDermott.
- 54:39SPEAKER_02: I'm going to stick with that because of the GM, Jason Light.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: So I think Bowles better get this right this year or else I think there could be a door.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: So that's why I'm going with them to win that division over New Orleans.
- 54:51SPEAKER_02: I think New Orleans is going to be a headache this year to play.
- 54:53SPEAKER_02: That offense could be good.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: The quarterback, I need to see more.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: Not ready to anoint like we all like to anoint.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: I want to see more before I want to talk more about him, but I will be studying him closely.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: Sean McDermott's making the rounds.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: I think it was on Rich Eisen today.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: He clearly wants to coach next season.
- 55:10SPEAKER_01: He's going to be looking at the available jobs.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: Say Tampa Bay opens up.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: Would you be surprised, though?
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 55:18SPEAKER_02: For Tampa Bay, say
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: they do pay Baker Mayfield to go from Todd Bowles,
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: At your own 39, fourth and two, shootout against the Bills, punting the game away.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: Now, Sean McDermott has proven he will go for it on fourth and short.
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: He did evolve in that category.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: He's still a defensive coach at heart and old school at heart.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: A, I wonder what Sean McDermott thought about Baker Mayfield coming out of college, right?
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: Because he was in that draft.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: How did he have these quarterbacks ranked himself?
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: We were told they had him number one.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: We were.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: So...
- 55:55SPEAKER_02: I'll stick with that.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: I know the guy told us that.
- 55:58SPEAKER_02: I believe what he says.
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's a bad thing to say that you had Baker Mayfield number one.
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: Yes, Josh Allen is better and Lamar is better,
- 56:06SPEAKER_02: but I think that was just the scariness of Lamar and Josh Allen
- 56:11SPEAKER_02: for everybody was what prevented those two from being number one.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: Could be some affection there.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: You think that Jason Light would be drawn to McDermott?
- 56:22SPEAKER_02: I do from what I think I believe that they the relationship they had in the past and
- 56:27SPEAKER_02: the respect they would have for each other and what Jason when you're hiring
- 56:31SPEAKER_02: a head coach.
- 56:33SPEAKER_02: It's yeah, we're saying defense defense, but Sean, you'll get the building right.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: He represents you.
- 56:39SPEAKER_02: You know, he's about the players.
- 56:41SPEAKER_02: He represents your team, right?
- 56:43SPEAKER_02: He's a quality head coach.
- 56:44SPEAKER_02: We can nitpick the tough,
- 56:46SPEAKER_02: you know,
- 56:46SPEAKER_02: we've nitpick that to death, the playoff games, the decisions, the defense.
- 56:49SPEAKER_02: It took a dive.
- 56:51SPEAKER_02: Maybe that's the talent evaluation that Sean took on when he took over.
- 56:55SPEAKER_02: I don't know how much Sean had.
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: I know he had power when we left, but guess who he will not have?
- 57:01SPEAKER_02: He will not have any say on that when he goes to Tampa.
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: Jason Light's a proven, proven top five GM talent evaluator.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, I would say his drafts rank up there.
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: So if you're Sean McDermott and we're racing ahead, who knows what happens this season?
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: I know, I'm sitting there picking them to win
- 57:17SPEAKER_02: the division.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: I know, but say like your choices are,
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: Tampa or a team like Tampa that retains its general manager and your job is to coach
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: and only coach.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: And you've got a team that can win.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: Or say the New York Jets say, Sean McDermott, you come in and you run everything.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: We want you to flip our building like you flip Buffalo and you're in charge of this, this, this.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: Do whatever the hell you want.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: Bob Lamont's his agent.
- 57:46SPEAKER_02: I'm saying yes, go keep going because I
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: know he would go to the
- 57:49SPEAKER_02: Jets if you're asking me.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, heck yeah.
- 57:51SPEAKER_02: Guess why?
- 57:52SPEAKER_02: And he gets to go against the Bills.
- 57:55SPEAKER_02: I promise you the old wrestler in him would want to come out and get a chance
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: of playing against the Bills.
- 58:02SPEAKER_02: I promise you.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: So that would be a good one.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: Because he definitely said everything that you'd want him to say in
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: that Eisen interview about predicting the Bills to win a Super Bowl and rooting
- 58:13SPEAKER_01: for Joe Brady and Josh Allen.
- 58:15SPEAKER_01: Knocked it out of the park.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: Smart.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: Smart.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: He's a competitor at heart.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: He's going to want to play them and beat them if he's a head coach.
- 58:21SPEAKER_02: We need those videos,
- 58:22SPEAKER_02: those behind-the-scenes videos when he's watching those games this year at home.
- 58:28SPEAKER_02: Like if they lose that first game and the defense isn't lights out.
- 58:33SPEAKER_02: Now, if that defense is lights out for Buffalo, that's a different ball game.
- 58:35SPEAKER_02: But if C.J.
- 58:36SPEAKER_02: Stroud comes in and lights that defense up, what do we do?
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that would be the opposite of an overly sanitized Hard Knocks episode
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: where Sean is sitting down.
- 58:52SPEAKER_02: Just Sean.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: It would just be him watching him.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 58:55SPEAKER_01: But a real one.
- 58:56SPEAKER_01: Sean's fingerprints were all over the Hard Knocks.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: He made sure this was in, this was out.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: But I want a, I want a raw, a
- 59:04SPEAKER_02: real show.
- 59:04SPEAKER_02: That's what I'm saying.
- 59:05SPEAKER_02: Real, real show.
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: Sean McDermott watching these games.
- 59:07SPEAKER_02: Like when,
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: when you grabbed me after a,
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: a Sunday and I lost some bets, that's, that's,
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: you want the raw,
- 59:13SPEAKER_02: you want Sean after the Bills give up 35 to CJ Stroud first game of the year.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: Well, both extremes, you know, what if they look great?
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: What if they're wreaking havoc?
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: What if the Lions waltz in the high mark?
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: So if it's 30, so Bills, Bills go 31, 10 against Houston first game.
- 59:30SPEAKER_02: Defense looks great.
- 59:31SPEAKER_02: Offense is free flowing.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: That's a tough, that's a hard swallow.
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: Hard swallow.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: This is a good point to mention.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: We will be recording some Substack lives after all of the Bills games.
- 59:44SPEAKER_01: So 20, 30 minutes right after the game.
- 59:48SPEAKER_01: Make sure you download the Substack app.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: Turn the notifications on because we will.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: It's on.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: We're going to let it fly.
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: It's on this year.
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: Right away.
- 59:55SPEAKER_02: That's the best time to do it.
- 59:56SPEAKER_02: And we're all paying attention.
- 59:57SPEAKER_02: And we're paying attention.
- 59:58SPEAKER_02: Let's do it then.
- 59:59SPEAKER_01: I love it because it's like when you cover an NFL game,
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_01: they call it the cooling off period for players.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_01: There's like 45 minutes before the media is allowed to enter the locker room.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: I always felt like some teams, they sequestered us outside of the locker room.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: All of a sudden players are walking out that you want to interview.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh, what the hell?
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: Can you get a lettuce?
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: So it seems to get longer than 45 minutes over time.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: So we're going to keep the cooling off period to a minimum when Jim Onis loses a bet.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: Loses lots of money.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: We want his emotions as
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_02: volatile as possible.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_02: I promise you it's not even about the bet or the money.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_02: It's usually about the call of a coach.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: That's what it is.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_02: That sends you over the top.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_02: But anyway.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_01: Which one really pissed you off last year?
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_02: I can't get over the Green Bay loss in the playoffs.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: That was a big one for me.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_02: Just needed them to win that game.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, you want to talk about looking good.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: I'm like, this is it.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_02: This is the one.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_02: I can't get that one out of my head.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_02: The all-time game for me I always talk about was Diggs' catch for the Vikings
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_02: against the Saints.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_02: That was my all-time, just the gut punch of a gut punch.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: But last year, that Green Bay loss hurt.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_02: I felt like, what coach is the punt coach?
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_02: Dan Quinn's on my list.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_02: He gets a little excited for field goals, I think, sometimes.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_02: There's some coaches that I think get excited for field goals.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_02: I think he's out of it now.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: But anybody that settles for field goals and punts will have my,
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_02: that's when I'm just like, I can't accept that.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_01: There were so many plays in that Green Bay Chicago wild card that you forget about.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: I just don't understand
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: how it happened.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_01: You know, the throw at the end of the first half, that could have made it 28-3.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: He goes to Christian Watson.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_01: Watson has a step.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_01: That's the thing,
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_01: as great as Love played,
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: 300 yards, three touchdowns, zero picks, on the road playoffs.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_01: There were still moments like that that, okay, you hit that, it's 28-3 at halftime.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, by the way,
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_01: I think you had Matthew Golden open on the other side of the field
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: and didn't go there.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: Understandably so.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: You're going to your top guy.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_01: And there were some drops.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: He had some drops on him.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_01: And then the throw, the second to last drive to Luke Musgrave up the left sideline.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: Great call by Matt LaFleur.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_01: That's just wild as one or two of these go the other way.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: LaFleur's a genius.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: But Luke Musgrave has Tremaine, I guess, one-on-one.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: He does.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_01: Come on in.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_01: Say hello.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: And I thought I'd stop by.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_00: Make sure you have everything you need.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_01: We're here at EBC.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: Welcome to EBC.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: Wait, do you want to pump?
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_02: Wait, let her pump.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_00: What's your name, by the way?
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: Kaylee.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: Nice to meet you.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_00: What are you guys doing?
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: Tyler.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: Nice to meet you.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_01: Talking a little football here.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_01: We were talking the beer earlier.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, charge.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: You talked about Fan Zone.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_01: I did the charge.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_01: Let's go to the Fan Zone.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_01: Fan Zone IPA.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: Our Fan Zone IPA.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_00: We have some new fans on the can.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_01: It's pretty big this year.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_01: You hear that, everyone?
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_00: Some Bills Mafia members to the can this year.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: Look for the new ones.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: Slightly different.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: Same beloved beer.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: That's the thing.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: I always get the blueberry at EBC, which is fantastic.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: You have so many other...
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_01: Just amazing beers here.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: How many are on tap?
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: All of them.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: No, everything except for this right here.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_01: I'd say like 35, 40 there probably.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: But do you guys need?
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: Do we need drinks?
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_01: What do you need?
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_01: I'll roll with the, I'll do the fan zone.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: Fan zone?
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: I'm water.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: You're good?
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: You have enough water?
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_00: I'm good.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_01: Appreciate it.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_01: Good stopping by.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: Perfect timing.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_01: I saw that we were a little low here.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_01: That's a sign.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_01: So that throw, I mean, if he...
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_01: Doesn't fall away.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_01: If he stands there, delivers it, it's either DPI or touchdown.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_02: Fair.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: In that game.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, Green Bay, I get it.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_01: They lost players on offense.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_01: They lost players on defense.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_01: You've got the Parsons rehab,
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: which you do not want to rush because you want him peaking at the end of the season.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_02: It's critical.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_02: You don't know who in the hell your running
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_01: back is going to be.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: Can Marshawn Lloyd stay healthy?
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: What is Marshawn Lloyd?
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_01: Nobody really knows.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: Love the weapons.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_02: They should be
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_01: able to, yeah.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_01: They showed you there in that first half.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: There was a moment there where if you're Seattle watching that Packers offense in
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: the first half, you're thinking, oh, shit.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_01: It was moving.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_01: And then everything just went to hell.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_01: Like that.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: Couldn't run the ball, couldn't do anything.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_01: And that,
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: I don't know how it's not coaching because that was the theme for the Packers,
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_01: blowing these leads.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: Losing games where you didn't even punt, getting steamrolled by the Ravens.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_01: They've got the personnel.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: They've got the quarterback.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_01: They've got the edge rusher.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_01: Let's see if Matt LaFleur can get it done.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_02: So that really sums up another good way of why I think he is on the hot seat.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: Quarterback and edge rusher who was an invested edge rusher.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_02: It has to get done, to your point.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_02: It won't be the edge rusher leaving and it won't be the quarterback leaving.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: It'll be the head man.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_01: I kind of love an hour into this thing.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_01: We barely talked about the LA Rams.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_01: We've got to touch on the team.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_01: Is it because it's like, that's what I was going to say.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: I think that's when, look at this.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, fantastic.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_00: Look at that.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_00: Here it is.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_00: Here we go.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_01: Buffalo fan zone.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_01: You can get these wherever you get your beer.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_01: IPA.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: I like that too.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_01: It's an IPA.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_01: That's a manageable IPA.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, you don't like the eight-pointers?
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_01: Again, bringing things full circle.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: I'm 39 and washed-up father of three.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: That'll hit you pretty hard when you're waking up at the fours.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_01: So if you like that taste of IPAs, what a great option for you here at EBC.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_01: Buffalo fans.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, lookit, they got all the different fans on there at the stadium.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_01: Bill Zelvis, there he is, the whole gang.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Jim.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_01: Don't mean to rub it in.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_01: I'll drink one for you, though.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_01: Drink two.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: Two.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: Rams.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: Okay, we got to get a thought on the Rams.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_02: Anointed.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_02: Gross.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_02: Don't even feel like talking about them.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_02: Loaded.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_02: We know it, obviously.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_02: I just feel like somebody can get them.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_02: But can they?
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_02: I don't know what to say.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_02: I don't know how you're going to stop them.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's no weaknesses.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_02: They are physically talented enough to win it, like we know.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_02: I think they were good enough without Donald.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_02: So the Donald edition that the picture.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_01: Get into what you saw on film then because that's a take we haven't heard.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_01: With the Rams.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_01: Aaron Donald not being Aaron Donald
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: at this point of his career.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: He's going to be.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: He is a splash.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_02: What I expect is he is still capable of splash plays.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_02: And that's what you're going to want.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_02: He is going to be capable of.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_02: Of winning with his get-off and quickness off the snap,
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_02: blowing by your guard and causing that fumble or getting that critical sack in
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: the playoffs.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_02: I think on a down-in and down-out game, he goes unnoticed and could be targeted to run at.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_02: He gets pushed around.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_02: That's the history of Aaron Donald.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_02: That's not a weakness.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_02: It's just he's small.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_02: At the end of the day, yes, he's powerful, but he wins off his explosion and power.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, in his hand use and staying clean You get your hands on him,
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_02: he's a little guy at the end of the day.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_02: There's gonna be guards that are okay going against him.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying, the thing that they're unbeatable and untouchable is where I'm laughing.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_02: And I just, I'm hoping to see A challenge, I guess.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_02: I'd like to see this not be that easy for the Rams.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't think it will be.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_01: It won't be.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_01: It never is.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_02: That's why I see this.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_02: I think that's why I'm not picking them.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_02: I'm just over it already.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_01: Hey, were you, you wouldn't have been with the Eagles, the dream team season.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_01: You were with the Saints by then, I want to say.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: Do you remember the season?
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_02: I feel like I remember.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: I want to say it was 08.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_02: Saints.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: You were with the Saints.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: That was Saints.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: That was the, yes.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: I remember it.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_01: Vince Young dropping the dream team reference.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_01: Had a little stickiness to it.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_01: I'm going to get the other names.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_02: I'm looking it up.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_02: Is that why you're, are you comparing
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_01: it to that?
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, the Rams are better than that team.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: They're better than that team.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_01: But it has the same kind of feel like, oh my God, all of this talent.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: How does anybody stand a chance?
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: And we tend to forget it has really, Really difficult to get to a Super Bowl.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_01: So many crazy things have to go your way.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_01: Just look at the last postseason.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_02: So many crazy.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_01: That wild card game.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: Then go to the next game.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_01: Bears-Rams and the craziness in that contest.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: And then you go to the next one, the NFC Championship game.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_01: If the Rams give a crap about special teams, maybe that game's different.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_01: It's a bounce here, a bounce there, a call here, a call there.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know what's going to go wrong for the Rams, but something's going to go wrong.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_01: Matthew Stafford is...
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_01: Approaching 40 with a bad back, okay?
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_01: Our backs are probably hurting just sitting here.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_02: I can't imagine getting blasted by D-Lineman with a bad back.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_02: They do have an anointed backup in Ty Simpson.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_02: This is true.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_02: One preseason game, he was anointed.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_02: So, great point on Stafford, though.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: All right, Fanzo?
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_02: You're happy with Fanzo?
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_01: I love him.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_01: It's smooth.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_01: It's dark, not too dark.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_01: It's got that IPA bite, but not too much bite.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_01: I approve.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_02: No, but I do.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_02: I'm with you on that with the Rams.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_02: It just seems too – I know it's easy and cliche to pick them,
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_02: but I actually do think they have – I mean, to your point, Stafford is old.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_02: Donald is coming out of retirement.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_02: He is not the biggest guy.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_01: Mike McDonald's defensive system, you still have the core of personnel there.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: It's another year in the system.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: They're going to be – So tough.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_01: Really tough to be.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: Let's not forget what they did to Drake May in the Super Bowl.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_01: It was over by the middle of the first quarter.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_01: I'm just banking on
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: hard to get back.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_02: That's all.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_02: Good enough to win it for sure.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_01: That was fun.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_01: Let's close it up there.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_01: I like EBC.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_01: I like to...
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_01: Let's give...
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: If you made it this far, let's show you what EBC looks like here.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_01: Here's the outdoor patio area.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_01: See?
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_01: Everybody having a good time.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_01: I'm always...
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_01: Going to be partial to the Southern Tier gym.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_01: Anytime you want to come down to record a pod.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: I got to twist my arm.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_01: We'll rotate around, find some new spots.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_01: My old high school basketball teammate owns the bar right across the street.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_01: Madigan's, Shane Kell.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_01: Maybe we do a pod at Madigan's one of these days.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_01: Right over there.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_01: Balloons, Mel Kearns.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_01: She works out at my sister's gym in the morning.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_01: So everybody kind of knows everybody around here.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_01: That's what I love about a small town.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_01: Like bringing the kids to school.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: Kids I went to school with, I was friends with, and now they're teachers.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_01: You know everybody.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_01: There's no surprises.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_01: There's no teachers putting litter boxes into bathrooms like you hear around some schools.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_01: Have you heard that, too?
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_01: That's insane.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_01: I didn't hear that.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:18SPEAKER_01: You're allowed to pretend you're a cat in 2026, and they put litter boxes into it.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_02: My friends would laugh hearing that because I've said for a long time,
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_02: we are close to zoo animals sometimes.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_02: It's stuff I've seen walking around airports and locker rooms.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_02: This is true, yeah.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_01: That's what we should do if you...
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_01: If you do not deplane in a row-by-row fashion and you're disorderly in that regard,
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_01: even if you don't identify as an animal,
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: the rest of the world is allowed to identify you as an animal and treat you as such.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_01: I kind of like that, the reverse identification.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_01: Let's go with that.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's great down here.
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_01: Love it.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_01: And I got to get up your way.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_01: Hey, like I said, you don't have to twist my arm to come here.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_01: This is outstanding.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_01: Thanks so much for listening, for watching, for sharing with a friend.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_01: As always, Go Long.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: We do not have any ads, any sponsors, none of that.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_01: Just a couple guys talking about football on this podcast,
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_01: and we are thrilled to share the news of this season very soon at the site as well.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_01: Thanks so much, everyone.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_00: Go Long.
