- 0:00Welcome to the Yukon Men's Football Coaches Show. Of course it's the Men's Football
- 0:04Coaches Show. Jim Morrow with us and our second goal around last week we're
- 0:08in the studio on iHeart with the live audience. That was a blast and
- 0:11coach, now we get back to real business. You have a game under
- 0:15your belt, Huskies fell at home to end the state. Let's begin with
- 0:20playing on a Thursday night to open. Can that be helpful going forward here
- 0:26because you get a couple of extra days to kind of review what happens and
- 0:30make preparations for the Saturday night road trip to Georgia's State. Yes, I
- 0:36think it's helpful on the front end and the back end. You know,
- 0:40you get a little more time on the front end because you get to come
- 0:43into camp a little bit early, and but on the back end you really
- 0:45pick up some advantages. And now they have the same advantage as they played
- 0:50as well that night. But number one, your players get a little more
- 0:53rest and a time to recover and get rehab from any any bumps and bruises
- 1:00from the game. As a coaching staff, you get a chance to prepare
- 1:07a little more completely because of the time allotted. You also get a chance
- 1:11to kind of take a mental break and watch some other teams play football,
- 1:15and so I think, yeah, I think there's an advantage to it,
- 1:19for sure, but they've got the same advantage, so you know, it
- 1:23kind of cancels each other out in this situation. Yeah, watching a lot
- 1:26of other football is something that we all do obviously, but you don't get
- 1:30a chance that often because you're playing on Saturday. For the most part,
- 1:34it's just a quick summary of what did you see in other football games that
- 1:38maybe surprised you or maybe you know was enlightening on some level because there was
- 1:44so much football on the weekend. I mean, I think there was a
- 1:46game Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, the last few days. Uh.
- 1:51You know. The only thing that just really was amazing to me is
- 1:56amount of points that are being scored in games. You know, Oregon scores
- 1:59eating one, well, miss course, seventy three. Someone else scored seventy
- 2:02three. You've got games in the sixties, the high fifties, the high
- 2:06forties. I mean, it's just, you know, it's amazing how many
- 2:09points people are putting up. It's really hard to play defense at this day
- 2:14and age, you know, college football, and it keeps it exciting.
- 2:17I'm not a big fan of the eighty one seven blowouts, you know,
- 2:21I think you know that's it's a little crazy, but you know, college
- 2:28football is a is a game where you never know what's going to happen.
- 2:31You know, it's hard to predict what's going to happen, and I think
- 2:35that makes it exciting. A perfect example of that came with Clemson and Duke,
- 2:39and You're gonna play Duke in a couple of weeks. I was listening
- 2:43to Dabbo Sweety talking about it. I've never been in a game like this.
- 2:46They were in the red zone four times, they couldn't score any points.
- 2:49They lose the Duke twenty eight seven. So it just proves, no
- 2:53matter how much you think you can predict what's gonna happen in college football,
- 2:55you can't. Well, if he's never been in a game like that,
- 3:00and he's you know, either the luckiest man alive or the greatest coach alive,
- 3:05because there's not many coaches that can say they haven't been in a game
- 3:07like that, and uh, you know I'd say that those two. Uh,
- 3:12he's a damn good coach, so but yeah, you know, you
- 3:15can't predict. You know, you watch the Florida State LSU game and it's
- 3:20it's back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Great players
- 3:23making great plays, great coaches doing a heck of a job, and then
- 3:25all of a sudden, you know, Florida State just pounces on some opportunities
- 3:30and you know, next thing, you know, it was at forty five
- 3:32to seventeen or something like that, and it's, uh, you know,
- 3:36a great game ends up looking like a blowout. Coach the home opener,
- 3:42and I know you guys are working hard at this getting people into building,
- 3:46and the messaging has been great with the athletic department, and I thought the
- 3:50turnout was tremendous. I mean, the most for a home opener since twenty
- 3:54ten, the most in the building since twenty thirteen. I think, you
- 4:00know, step two, the reload. You're calling it your second year here.
- 4:04I gotta feel like you're making progress in terms of getting people excited about
- 4:09this football program. And I thought that that was had to feel good for
- 4:14you guys to walk into that stadium and have thirty thousand plus behind you.
- 4:17Oh, it was fantastic and it started just with our student section, you
- 4:20know, and what those kids were able to generate in terms of enthusiasm and
- 4:25excitement and noise, and you know, our tunnel comes out right there underneath
- 4:29them, and you could feel them having that place, you know, almost
- 4:33full, was fantastic. You know, going down that first drive and going
- 4:39forth on fourth down and scoring, you could tell that our fans, you
- 4:43know, we're into it. We had to go out and do a better
- 4:46job that first drive on defense, not let them come back down and score
- 4:48because that kind of you know, it takes a little air out of the
- 4:51building. But we're making progress. We're a better football team. I hope
- 4:55people recognize that. Very disappointed to lose. I think if you come to
- 4:59you win that game, you know, you generate even more enthusiasms. Now,
- 5:02we've got to find a way to regenerate that enthusiasm, enthusiasm, enthusiasm
- 5:08amongst our fan base. And the most important thing we can do is play
- 5:11good football and win and make it worthwhile for people to take their time and
- 5:15spend their money to come out to the rent and say, hey man,
- 5:17that's my team, and that's you know, that's one of our objectives Jamore
- 5:23with US Yukon football coach on Mike Christino. One thing about you know,
- 5:27reaction from fans. We get it all the time as broadcasters wherever we are,
- 5:30I mean anywhere in public. And I gotta tell you, for the
- 5:34most part, i'd say almost ninety nine percent of your fans felt like,
- 5:40Okay, we lost that game. Maybe they were a little better, maybe
- 5:43we had a couple of things go wrong, but they can see it.
- 5:46You know. The Yukon football base, to me, is a very knowledgeable
- 5:50group. They've seen a lot, They've seen ups, they've seen downs,
- 5:54they saw the remarkable job you did last year, and I think they're on
- 5:59top of what's happening. So just so you know, the response I got
- 6:02all around in the last few days was very positive after a loss. You
- 6:08don't get that around the country very often, but I gotta feel that that
- 6:11is something important and taking a step forward with this program. Yeah, you
- 6:15know, it's good to hear that. I make it a rule during the
- 6:20season to get on social media, not to you know, obviously, don't
- 6:27look at Twitter. I don't really read articles win or lose. I just
- 6:30think it's important for me to stay you know, right where I am and
- 6:33and focus on the things I can control, so I kind of avoid that
- 6:39stuff. But that's nice to hear that people recognize that there is there is
- 6:44progress being made. I mean, we're we're a better football team than we
- 6:46were at any point last year. You recall last year we went down to
- 6:50North Carolina State and it was thirty one and nothing at the end of the
- 6:54first half, you know, and it was ten to seven this week,
- 6:59you know, So there's progress. But at the end of the day,
- 7:00Mike is you know, we're ultimately going to be measured by wins and losses,
- 7:04and so for us, we've got to make sure that our mindset as
- 7:08a football team is it's not to come cloaks, it's to win. But
- 7:13the only way you win is to continue to improve. And I think I
- 7:15see improvement, and that is one thing that's encouraging, you know, in
- 7:21the middle of what was a discouraging loss or disappointing loss, not I think
- 7:26to say discouraged would be wrong. Disappointing to lose, but never discourage because
- 7:30because of our effort, because of our fans. Yeah, I'm totally with
- 7:34you on that one. We'll be back. We'll take a quick break with
- 7:36the Jim Mora. This is the Yukon Football Coaches Show on lip Field.
