- 0:57Speaker 2: I'm so cute. Hi, I'm Justin is a singer songwriter
- 1:02Speaker 2: and you are a two time Grammy one now yes,
- 1:05Speaker 2: so that's amazing. And we have a mutual friend, Johnny.
- 1:09Speaker 2: So that's how that's how we that's how we know
- 1:11Speaker 2: each other. Yes, he's my son, slash publicist slash friends.
- 1:17Speaker 2: He's just he's a great guy. I love him. So
- 1:19Speaker 2: we connected through him. And you told me about you,
- 1:23Speaker 2: and you're amazing and I'd like to hear your story.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So tell us a little bit about yourself, your handsome,
- 1:29Speaker 2: beautiful self.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Thank you so much. Well, first and foremost, I'm happy
- 1:35Speaker 4: to be here.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Thank you, happy to have you.
- 1:38Speaker 3: You know, I've been doing music my entire life. I
- 1:40Speaker 3: used to sing Happy Birthday to my entire family every
- 1:43Speaker 3: time it was someone's birthday.
- 1:45Speaker 4: And I have a really big family. I was singing
- 1:48Speaker 4: Happy Birthday, I think at least once a week, just
- 1:51Speaker 4: about growing up.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Every day, so find somebody was having a birthday so
- 1:55Speaker 2: you could go sec it.
- 1:56Speaker 4: I mean, I felt like that's what my mom was
- 1:58Speaker 4: setting me up to do. Honestly, Like, is ever having
- 2:01Speaker 4: a birthday?
- 2:02Speaker 2: Can I sing for you now?
- 2:03Speaker 3: My mom is definitely one of my biggest inspirations because
- 2:07Speaker 3: she was she was the one who would always sing
- 2:09Speaker 3: Happy Birthday. Back in the day when you know, before
- 2:14Speaker 3: Instagram and whatnot, it was only voicemails, so my family
- 2:19Speaker 3: members knew to not pick up the phone so that
- 2:22Speaker 3: she can sing happy Birthday. And I remember it was
- 2:25Speaker 3: going to be my my younger.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Brother's first birthday, and I told my mom, like mom,
- 2:30Speaker 4: I was four years old at the time.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I was like, Mom, I want to sing Happy Birthday
- 2:33Speaker 3: to Brandon. And she was like, oh yeah, let me
- 2:36Speaker 3: hear you.
- 2:37Speaker 4: So I started singing.
- 2:38Speaker 3: I was cracking all over the space, like ill file
- 2:40Speaker 3: for you know what I'm saying. But she knew I
- 2:43Speaker 3: had the passion and does your mom, Yeah, she sings
- 2:46Speaker 3: really well.
- 2:47Speaker 4: She's she's a she's a beautiful singer.
- 2:49Speaker 3: And ever since then, I just took the torch.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I just never let it down, you know.
- 2:54Speaker 3: And I've been following my dreams since a very young age.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I've been blessed to know this is what I'm you know,
- 3:03Speaker 3: put on this earth to do, not only for myself,
- 3:06Speaker 3: but for other artists as well. It's been one hell
- 3:09Speaker 3: of a journey. And you know, now I'm at a
- 3:12Speaker 3: point in my career where I'm able to give back,
- 3:16Speaker 3: you know, and kind of make it easier for artists
- 3:18Speaker 3: like myself to not have to go through what I
- 3:20Speaker 3: went through, you know, in this industry, music industry.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I mean that tough industry.
- 3:25Speaker 4: It's not easy.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Competitive, it's ruthless, it's cutthroat, you know, and you know,
- 3:30Speaker 2: one minute you're hot, the next minute you're not. There's
- 3:33Speaker 2: always somebody up and coming. You know, there's always somebody
- 3:36Speaker 2: that dude, you have to look behind you that are
- 3:37Speaker 2: going to, you know, trip you down the steads exactly
- 3:40Speaker 2: right and try to take your place. How did you
- 3:43Speaker 2: navigate through all that?
- 3:45Speaker 4: Like? When?
- 3:46Speaker 2: When did you?
- 3:47Speaker 4: Do?
- 3:47Speaker 2: You live in New York or so?
- 3:49Speaker 4: I'm from New Jersey. I grew up in New Jersey.
- 3:54Speaker 3: I mean, I made quite a name for myself in
- 3:56Speaker 3: New Jersey and then I ended up moving to Los
- 3:58Speaker 3: Angeles make my dreams true, you know.
- 4:01Speaker 2: By yourself? Did you go alone?
- 4:02Speaker 4: I went alone at first.
- 4:05Speaker 3: And then when I got my first check from from
- 4:08Speaker 3: actually songwriting from writing focus for her with her man,
- 4:16Speaker 3: I never I've never seen that type of money ever
- 4:19Speaker 3: in my life.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Joe, who did you write this? You wrote this song
- 4:22Speaker 2: for her?
- 4:23Speaker 4: The artist her?
- 4:24Speaker 2: The artist her?
- 4:25Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, so the artist that's her artist's name is her.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And you know the first check that I got from that,
- 4:32Speaker 3: I think was just about like forty eight thousand dollars.
- 4:34Speaker 3: I did not know what to do with that.
- 4:37Speaker 4: But actually I lied. I knew exactly exactly what I
- 4:41Speaker 4: know exactly what exactly what to do.
- 4:42Speaker 2: What was it the right thing to deal with that?
- 4:44Speaker 3: Wanting the first check, I did the right thing. I
- 4:47Speaker 3: think my mom at that time. I don't know if
- 4:50Speaker 3: she enjoy hearing this, my I love you so much,
- 4:53Speaker 3: but she had gotten evicted two days before.
- 4:57Speaker 4: I saw that.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Money in my account, and I basically, you know, spent
- 5:04Speaker 3: whatever I needed to spend to make sure that she
- 5:07Speaker 3: was with me.
- 5:08Speaker 4: You know, it's amazing. So I flew her son, Yeah,
- 5:13Speaker 4: thank you. I flew her out. I mean I flew
- 5:16Speaker 4: everything out, the furniture of the car, the anything she
- 5:20Speaker 4: needed to feel good and better. You know.
- 5:25Speaker 3: You know, at the time, I had a girlfriend and
- 5:26Speaker 3: I was paying rent there, but I just got me
- 5:28Speaker 3: and my mom a place, so I was.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Paying two rents.
- 5:32Speaker 3: I had a money management problem for sure, but I
- 5:36Speaker 3: knew that I needed my.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Mom with me and justier.
- 5:43Speaker 2: You know, because that made you feel bad, I was
- 5:45Speaker 2: able to make you have peace of mind that your
- 5:48Speaker 2: mom was in a good place.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:50Speaker 3: And it also helped because you know, La is also
- 5:52Speaker 3: a very cutthroat as well, and it's a lot.
- 5:55Speaker 2: It's it's not like I mean growing up in New
- 5:57Speaker 2: York and New Jersey. I mean, we we have that
- 6:01Speaker 2: neighborhood feel. People know each other.
- 6:03Speaker 4: You grew up with the.
- 6:04Speaker 2: People in LA. It's not like that. It's a lot
- 6:06Speaker 2: of transient people, you know, and a lot of them
- 6:09Speaker 2: aren't the best of people. Let's put it that way.
- 6:11Speaker 2: They're not the best of a lot of them don't
- 6:14Speaker 2: have a great character.
- 6:15Speaker 4: Should I say, Well, what I can't say about LA
- 6:18Speaker 4: is that a lot of people that are in LA
- 6:19Speaker 4: are just not from LA. And it's a lot of
- 6:22Speaker 4: lost and broken people that go to one place to
- 6:25Speaker 4: make their dreams come true.
- 6:27Speaker 3: So it becomes very sharky. So if you don't know
- 6:29Speaker 3: how to swim, yeah, it tends to get a little difficult,
- 6:34Speaker 3: you know. Hence why I also moved from Los Angeles
- 6:39Speaker 3: and I moved to Miami. And I was in Miami
- 6:41Speaker 3: for three years and I did I did quite a
- 6:45Speaker 3: number out there, and now I'm back home with my
- 6:47Speaker 3: family in Jersey.
- 6:49Speaker 2: You know, and you're working from there now.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I travel. I just came from Miami,
- 6:55Speaker 3: like I landed an hour or two ago. I just
- 6:59Speaker 3: came straight here. I'm doing like a charity toy drive
- 7:03Speaker 3: out there for our basil.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Wow, that's amazing. I know you're working on anything now,
- 7:12Speaker 2: any music now?
- 7:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:16Speaker 3: A lot of my music that I plan on putting
- 7:18Speaker 3: out for twenty twenty four is pretty much done already.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I have about four projects to roll out and now
- 7:29Speaker 3: I actually just joined this organization.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Guitars Over Guns.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Shout out to Guitars over Gunsars over Guns. Yeah, I
- 7:38Speaker 3: will be teaching little kids how the song right amazing,
- 7:42Speaker 3: fifth and sixth graders amazing. So that's going to be
- 7:45Speaker 3: like my main priority for like twenty twenty four, as
- 7:49Speaker 3: well as rolling up.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Bringing those back into school. I'm taking it away. They
- 7:53Speaker 2: took it away, which is not which is very important.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I think bring it back.
- 7:58Speaker 3: If I had some more arts in school, performing arts
- 8:02Speaker 3: or just like music programs and whatnot like this one,
- 8:05Speaker 3: it would have helped me get up in the morning. Honestly,
- 8:08Speaker 3: it would have made me want to go to school.
- 8:09Speaker 4: And I think that's what kids need.
- 8:11Speaker 3: They need a reason to want to go to school
- 8:13Speaker 3: and then you know, then they can learn their curriculums
- 8:16Speaker 3: and whatnot.
- 8:17Speaker 2: But I agree they need something to open up their
- 8:19Speaker 2: mind and their passion and to get them something that
- 8:22Speaker 2: they're that they are interested in. All most kids are
- 8:25Speaker 2: interested in music. So that would definitely that that help,
- 8:29Speaker 2: that does help with education. It said that they did
- 8:32Speaker 2: take that, you know, a lot of the they cut
- 8:34Speaker 2: a lot of the music programs you know in New
- 8:36Speaker 2: especially New York, you know, and they're funding other things
- 8:40Speaker 2: for the public school system that there are other projects
- 8:43Speaker 2: to put into play into the school system. And I
- 8:45Speaker 2: think that music is probably something that is universal for everybody,
- 8:49Speaker 2: you know, for every race, color, creed, religion, everybody loves.
- 8:54Speaker 2: They're all of music, right, and that's what music heals
- 8:57Speaker 2: and brings people together. So that would me would make
- 9:01Speaker 2: sense to bring that incorporate that into learning because I
- 9:04Speaker 2: think that it would definitely, you know, cause a better
- 9:08Speaker 2: effect than other things that are being installed.
- 9:12Speaker 4: Yeah, because look, I was a good kid. I was
- 9:15Speaker 4: a good kid.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I wasn't the best student, and I had a hard
- 9:21Speaker 3: time focusing. You know, I grew up with ADHD and whatnot.
- 9:24Speaker 3: A lot of creatives do grow up with something of
- 9:27Speaker 3: that nature. And you know, music always put me in
- 9:32Speaker 3: one focus, in one zone.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Give you more of a tunnel vision yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 3: You know, and let's just say I didn't do well
- 9:39Speaker 3: in any of the other other subjects. At least if
- 9:42Speaker 3: I saw that I had an A plus and music,
- 9:44Speaker 3: I'd have felt.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Like you accomplished.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd have felt like, you know, like this could
- 9:49Speaker 3: be for me no matter what, which I always knew
- 9:53Speaker 3: music was for me, but not everyone does.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Do you play a lot of instruments by ear?
- 9:58Speaker 3: I'm not going to say I'm a piano player, but
- 10:00Speaker 3: I can play something, you know.
- 10:03Speaker 4: But I do produce. I'm a I'm a sound designer.
- 10:07Speaker 4: I design sounds, you know.
- 10:08Speaker 2: And what is your favorite genre of music?
- 10:11Speaker 4: R and B all the way? I love R and
- 10:13Speaker 4: B love music, love all the way.
- 10:16Speaker 2: And you write, but you write for other people as well,
- 10:19Speaker 2: so you not just for yourself and you write for
- 10:21Speaker 2: other people? So what is what is your main is it?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Is it you write for others or are you focusing
- 10:26Speaker 2: on your your own songwriting for your own for your
- 10:29Speaker 2: own you know, career at this point or I mean,
- 10:33Speaker 2: what's your path at this point that you feel.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Like if I get booked for songwriting, I get booked
- 10:37Speaker 3: for songwriting. You know, I have clients that book me
- 10:41Speaker 3: to help them write raps. I have clients that help me,
- 10:44Speaker 3: uh that that book me to help them, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 3: write some R and B stuff.
- 10:49Speaker 4: It varies, you know, but you know, wherever the money's at,
- 10:52Speaker 4: I'm there.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And how did it have? What was there your first
- 10:55Speaker 2: big break?
- 10:56Speaker 4: Like?
- 10:56Speaker 2: How did it had that roll out for you?
- 10:58Speaker 4: I mean, honestly, I didn't. I was. I was at
- 11:05Speaker 4: a very like the depressed point in my life, right.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I wanted to quit music because, you know, I put
- 11:10Speaker 3: out a song that I produced, I wrote, I recorded myself.
- 11:14Speaker 4: I did everything on the song. No one helped me
- 11:17Speaker 4: with that song.
- 11:18Speaker 2: How long ago was this?
- 11:19Speaker 4: That was in twenty fifteen, right, so.
- 11:22Speaker 5: So you were really younger than I was, really nineteen
- 11:25Speaker 5: just about eighteen nineteen, you know, And you know I
- 11:29Speaker 5: saw the song did numbers, and the team I was
- 11:32Speaker 5: with at the time, you know, every time I had
- 11:34Speaker 5: questions about hey, like where like when?
- 11:37Speaker 3: When when are we getting paid? Or like how is
- 11:40Speaker 3: this process supposed to work?
- 11:42Speaker 4: They always navigated around the question very well.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And you know, well, they were they were, they were,
- 11:49Speaker 2: they were. They didn't want to pay you. That's probably
- 11:51Speaker 2: what it sounds like. You know, they figured you're young,
- 11:53Speaker 2: you know, you're hungry. They could get away with it
- 11:56Speaker 2: with you.
- 11:57Speaker 3: And and they pretty much did, you know. But but
- 12:00Speaker 3: it's okay, you know, like it's some certain learning experience,
- 12:04Speaker 3: certain lessons you just got to take on the chin
- 12:06Speaker 3: and know how to move forward, you know what I'm saying.
- 12:08Speaker 3: But hence that being the situation and me being as
- 12:12Speaker 3: stressed about, like I don't know if music is for
- 12:14Speaker 3: me anymore, right, because like I'm not even making money.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I'm not even like, okay, I got millions of streams,
- 12:22Speaker 3: but I don't even know how to get my money.
- 12:24Speaker 4: I don't know how this works. You know.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I was so depressed. I walked, I didn't walk. I
- 12:30Speaker 3: took a bus to New York. I only had like
- 12:31Speaker 3: five dollars to my name, right, So the first bus
- 12:34Speaker 3: from New Jersey to New York, you know, I just
- 12:40Speaker 3: hopped it.
- 12:41Speaker 4: I didn't even pay, you.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Know, I just kicked the doors open and I got off,
- 12:45Speaker 3: you know, so I still had five dollars. Then I
- 12:49Speaker 3: went to the dollar slice pizza spot and I got
- 12:52Speaker 3: two slices and a can of sol.
- 12:53Speaker 2: You can't get a slice of pizza readymore for a dollar?
- 12:55Speaker 4: Yeah, it's right, so not more so back then it
- 13:00Speaker 4: was it was two fifty for two slices and a
- 13:02Speaker 4: cannon soda. So I did that. So I had two
- 13:04Speaker 4: fifty left.
- 13:06Speaker 3: And you know, I really went for no reason, like
- 13:09Speaker 3: I just needed like some fresh air.
- 13:11Speaker 4: I just I needed to walk around. I did. I
- 13:13Speaker 4: didn't really know what to do. I didn't know what
- 13:16Speaker 4: I was doing.
- 13:16Speaker 3: I just left, you know, I wanted to be away
- 13:19Speaker 3: from everything and everyone.
- 13:21Speaker 4: So that's exactly what I did.
- 13:23Speaker 3: On my way back home, I guess I was going
- 13:28Speaker 3: to take the transit and you can't have the transit bus.
- 13:30Speaker 4: You have to pay before you get in the transit.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Yeah, go back to Jersey.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, they don't play, so they don't. So I
- 13:37Speaker 4: was going to spend my last few dollars on that.
- 13:40Speaker 3: And you know, on the way to that bus, someone
- 13:43Speaker 3: you know from across the sheet was like, justin, Justin,
- 13:46Speaker 3: I got this artist upstairs. And at first I was like, oh,
- 13:50Speaker 3: I forgot I was even like an artist. He's like, yeah, man,
- 13:54Speaker 3: we were at your show last.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Week, so somebody recognized you and just and you just
- 13:59Speaker 2: have to bump into them.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Yeah. His name is.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Jason Hovedi and he works for her. He works for
- 14:08Speaker 3: that that team and whatnot. And you know, at that point,
- 14:11Speaker 3: I would have worked with the mailman. It didn't matter
- 14:15Speaker 3: who you.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Were, Like, I just wanted to create.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah, So I went upstairs and there she was just
- 14:22Speaker 3: like playing the piano. She went from the piano to
- 14:24Speaker 3: the guitar, from the guitar to the bass.
- 14:26Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, this is.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Amazing, you know, because growing up I was never really
- 14:31Speaker 3: around like like minded individuals like myself that were into music.
- 14:35Speaker 4: The way I was.
- 14:37Speaker 3: So I was always creating artists like like, yo, you'd
- 14:41Speaker 3: be a dope artist, come to my house, and I
- 14:43Speaker 3: would like use them as practice and teach them how
- 14:46Speaker 3: to you know, either write or record or like just
- 14:51Speaker 3: rap or sing, you know, and.
- 14:53Speaker 2: You would help them like create their persona basically.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 3: And I would do that from scratch, like I always
- 14:58Speaker 3: had a blank canvas, so like, I never had an
- 15:01Speaker 3: artist that can actually do this and does this for real.
- 15:05Speaker 3: And that was my first experience, you know, working with
- 15:08Speaker 3: someone that's talented as a as her And yeah.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Man, have you have you been working with her since?
- 15:16Speaker 2: I mean, how how many have you wrote another? Written
- 15:18Speaker 2: other songs? For?
- 15:20Speaker 4: No? That situation kind of was like a like a
- 15:23Speaker 4: one off situation, but.
- 15:25Speaker 2: It opened doors for your father.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Yeah, and did and didn't. And I'm super blessed to
- 15:30Speaker 4: be able to say so. You know, I'm thankful.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Can you sing a verse to a song that you're
- 15:36Speaker 2: that you that you're writing now with something that that's
- 15:38Speaker 2: close to your heart. I'd like to hear you saying.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I got you.
- 15:43Speaker 3: This is one of my favorite songs that I have actually,
- 15:46Speaker 3: and it's called jealous, So I'll sing a little bit
- 15:48Speaker 3: of it.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Girl.
- 15:51Speaker 6: I'm sick of the wind brushing your hey, how I
- 15:57Speaker 6: prushy doom doom, and I hate how you poping all
- 16:05Speaker 6: on the Grandbud Love. I'm so sick, oh love girl Bud.
- 16:16Speaker 4: I want you now, I won't you. I'm so sick. Yeah,
- 16:25Speaker 4: but I'm ready to flaunt you now. Yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Eat amazing. We didn't know how to musical versions show.
- 16:36Speaker 2: That's amazing. You have a beautiful voice.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Thank you so much.
- 16:40Speaker 2: And you wrote and you wrote that song? What was
- 16:42Speaker 2: your inspiration for that song? Like I always I always
- 16:45Speaker 2: wanted like certain when you listen to a lyric or,
- 16:48Speaker 2: you listen to a song like where where that would
- 16:50Speaker 2: come from? And a lot of people are like, tell
- 16:51Speaker 2: her swift everything is from a breakup, and I feel
- 16:53Speaker 2: like she just breaks up with people just so she
- 16:55Speaker 2: could write a song. Like that's what she's like, let
- 16:58Speaker 2: me date somebody some music sometime so that I could
- 17:02Speaker 2: write it.
- 17:04Speaker 4: That is no joke. But jealous is just about a
- 17:08Speaker 4: time period where I used to be very jealous, you know,
- 17:11Speaker 4: like I just I love and I love hard and
- 17:13Speaker 4: I just want to be with my lady twenty four
- 17:16Speaker 4: to seven. And it wasn't necessarily me being jealous of
- 17:19Speaker 4: another man. It's just me jealous of.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Anything having more time with her than me, like just
- 17:27Speaker 3: like the wind, or just her job or just anything
- 17:31Speaker 3: else that has anything to do with not me.
- 17:34Speaker 2: So basically, you want her to pay attentionally to you.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Yeah, you're just like every other man.
- 17:41Speaker 2: As sensitive. You want to stay why real funny?
- 17:45Speaker 4: Are you so?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Are you married? Are you this is your your engage
- 17:50Speaker 2: or together.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I'm not married or engaged or anything like that, but
- 17:54Speaker 4: this is the one you think I do. I do have.
- 17:57Speaker 4: I do have a special person, and uh I could
- 18:00Speaker 4: see myself, you know, doing forever with her.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So that's amazing.
- 18:04Speaker 4: I'm excited. You're you're you're.
- 18:06Speaker 2: An exceptional case for somebody twenty seven in these days,
- 18:09Speaker 2: because usually lately people don't decide to get married and
- 18:12Speaker 2: have children until way into their their thirties.
- 18:15Speaker 3: I don't really, I don't really, like, you know, where
- 18:18Speaker 3: this generation is headed in terms of love and.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Relationships and family values. And family values that's a big one,
- 18:28Speaker 4: you know.
- 18:29Speaker 2: You know that what that's what societies are built on.
- 18:31Speaker 2: His family, you know, And I think a lot. And
- 18:34Speaker 2: that's that's pretty. That's pretty. That's pretty inspirational to hear
- 18:39Speaker 2: somebody your age say that, because it's very important to
- 18:43Speaker 2: have family, because that's what binds a society together. And
- 18:46Speaker 2: you know what, I feel like, so many things that
- 18:47Speaker 2: are going on in this world now it's like they're
- 18:49Speaker 2: trying to rip the family apart. But that's the basis
- 18:51Speaker 2: of it.
- 18:52Speaker 4: It's important to have your family, I mean, without your
- 18:55Speaker 4: The thing about family is like.
- 18:58Speaker 2: That's your tribe, it's your identity.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and not not only that, but like you know,
- 19:03Speaker 4: and support system.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I have my accolades. You have your accolades. You know,
- 19:08Speaker 3: we all have our accolades. And you know, when you're
- 19:11Speaker 3: out and you're meeting people, they look at you for
- 19:14Speaker 3: what you're worth, and they equate that to your accolades.
- 19:17Speaker 4: Your family, doesn't you know what I'm.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Saying, That's true. They have they love you. They just
- 19:23Speaker 2: love you unconditionally, most of them.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Yeah, And you know, it's just very easy for this
- 19:27Speaker 3: generation to get lost in that, you know, whole of
- 19:31Speaker 3: thinking they can do everything themselves without everyone, and you
- 19:35Speaker 3: just can't do it wholehearted right without your family.
- 19:39Speaker 2: And that, you know what that's really bread the fresh
- 19:42Speaker 2: ass somebody of your generations saying that, because it seems
- 19:45Speaker 2: that in this generation, it seems like they almost want
- 19:49Speaker 2: you to isolate yourself between the phone, between the video games,
- 19:53Speaker 2: between just doing everything by even going outside. It's it's
- 19:57Speaker 2: hard to get kids to even go outside. Like when
- 19:59Speaker 2: I was a kid, I was outside, I would come on,
- 20:01Speaker 2: I would get up, I'd be out all day long,
- 20:03Speaker 2: and I would never see my parents until I either
- 20:05Speaker 2: came home. Well, only if I was hungry or Thursday,
- 20:07Speaker 2: or I got hurt. That was the only time I
- 20:09Speaker 2: went home. That was it hungry, thirsty, or I lost
- 20:12Speaker 2: an appendage. I would Otherwise I would never be home
- 20:14Speaker 2: and I would be like And I see the kids today,
- 20:18Speaker 2: you know, they're like so it's just it's like isolation
- 20:22Speaker 2: all the time, no matter what they do, and it's
- 20:24Speaker 2: it's really it's nice to hear that that's somebody of
- 20:26Speaker 2: your age. To even recognize that and to see that,
- 20:29Speaker 2: you know, maybe your music will inspire the next generation
- 20:33Speaker 2: to be you know, to see that, to see those values,
- 20:36Speaker 2: and to see that you know that that that way
- 20:39Speaker 2: of thinking, which is that's very that's really that's really great.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I think it's amazing.
- 20:43Speaker 3: I think right now it's important for me to just
- 20:45Speaker 3: get that message across through my music. I think, you know,
- 20:48Speaker 3: and growing up and adult saying, I'm realizing the importance
- 20:52Speaker 3: of you know, being someone that people listen to and
- 20:56Speaker 3: respect and idolize. And I think, you know, with us
- 21:01Speaker 3: holding that being in that seat, we we have a
- 21:06Speaker 3: lot of responsibility.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Have a lot of power. And that's and then you
- 21:09Speaker 2: know what what's like looking up to It's like looking
- 21:12Speaker 2: up praising to a god basically, I mean, think about
- 21:15Speaker 2: that when you're when you listen to these people that
- 21:17Speaker 2: are singers and and and actors, you know, you want
- 21:20Speaker 2: to set that a good message across because it can
- 21:23Speaker 2: become very narcissistic and very you know, me me, me,
- 21:27Speaker 2: me me. But you know if you have you know
- 21:29Speaker 2: you have a great attitude because you you sound very
- 21:32Speaker 2: that you want to spread the you know, your your
- 21:37Speaker 2: message like you want to, you want to, you want
- 21:39Speaker 2: to say the family is important, you know, for helping
- 21:42Speaker 2: other people is important, and it is important because it
- 21:44Speaker 2: does come back to you.
- 21:47Speaker 3: There are songs that I do have that I do
- 21:49Speaker 3: regret putting out. But that's that's part of my legacy
- 21:54Speaker 3: and growth.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Well, it's a part of growing up to you know,
- 21:56Speaker 2: nobody does anything perfect and that's part of your that
- 22:00Speaker 2: was part of your journey that you needed to go
- 22:02Speaker 2: through to get where you are. Right, there's always a
- 22:05Speaker 2: road you have to take to get to another road,
- 22:07Speaker 2: to get to the end of the road, to start
- 22:09Speaker 2: to start to start going out on the.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Yeah, so what do you feel?
- 22:21Speaker 2: So what do you think that your next what would
- 22:23Speaker 2: be the next thing that you would want to accomplish?
- 22:26Speaker 2: But you've done it singing, you've done songwriting. You've won
- 22:29Speaker 2: two Grammys. How is that to win a Grammy? Like
- 22:31Speaker 2: what do you do with the Grammars? You put a
- 22:32Speaker 2: candy in it? Like look at it? You you dust it?
- 22:36Speaker 4: Where is it?
- 22:36Speaker 2: Where is it in your house.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Writing so so basically and that was the songwriting. Yeah,
- 22:41Speaker 4: that's the songwriting. Okay, yeah, that's amazing writing.
- 22:44Speaker 2: So even that one grammar, you have to who has Grammys?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Not like hey, yeah, you know, hey, how's your grammy doing?
- 22:52Speaker 3: It might sound crazy to a lot of people, but
- 22:54Speaker 3: I don't. I don't have any of my awards.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Yeah I don't. No, no, uh, well actually she does. Yeah,
- 23:02Speaker 4: she has like my certificates and metals and stuff like that.
- 23:05Speaker 4: I don't like seeing them, you know.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I mean I would have that like senate stage of
- 23:10Speaker 2: my house, like on the lights. They would have their
- 23:13Speaker 2: own cabinet.
- 23:14Speaker 4: It's different for me, you know.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Uh, you know, sometimes we have our own inner battles
- 23:19Speaker 3: and we have our own way of you know, continuing
- 23:23Speaker 3: the job, you know. And I feel like if I
- 23:27Speaker 3: see that, it'll get me a little comfortable.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Ah, you know what I'm saying. And I don't. And
- 23:35Speaker 4: I'm not in a position to get comfortable. I'm not.
- 23:38Speaker 2: You don't want to say I got two Grammars. I
- 23:40Speaker 2: don't have to do anything anymore.
- 23:41Speaker 4: I'm blessed, I'm thankful. I know I have it.
- 23:44Speaker 2: You should put them out anyway, Are they heavy?
- 23:48Speaker 4: Yeah, they are heavy.
- 23:49Speaker 2: I've touched I've held an oscar before I had I
- 23:53Speaker 2: know somebody I don't want to say, but I've touched on.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Then they're they're pretty heavy. So that we've gotten, what
- 24:00Speaker 2: does it feel like?
- 24:00Speaker 3: We got a Soul Train Award two, you know, and
- 24:04Speaker 3: a bunch of plaques. You know, I used to I
- 24:07Speaker 3: used to have the plaques of I used to you know,
- 24:10Speaker 3: see all that stuff, and I don't know, I just feel.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Like you should still have a wall, you know. I
- 24:17Speaker 2: still have that.
- 24:19Speaker 3: My only issue is that I was moving around a lot.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I was doing a lot of bouncing around, and like
- 24:23Speaker 3: it was hard to just I was.
- 24:26Speaker 4: I was never in a stable.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Right, you didn't want to keep it in Like the
- 24:30Speaker 2: kitchen cabinet my grammy, Like there's.
- 24:32Speaker 4: A cop right, I got that's funny. Yeah, but yeah, no, like.
- 24:39Speaker 2: You send me a picture of it.
- 24:40Speaker 4: I want to say, yeah, I got you for sure.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Oh yeah, but it was an experience. My mom was
- 24:46Speaker 4: my date. Actually I took my mom and what year
- 24:48Speaker 4: was us?
- 24:50Speaker 2: Twenty eighteen, so both of them for the for the
- 24:53Speaker 2: same source.
- 24:53Speaker 4: So well project, Yeah, the entire project.
- 24:56Speaker 2: For her, that's amazing. That's amazing. That's like, that's like
- 25:01Speaker 2: such an accomplishment at such a young age. You should feel,
- 25:04Speaker 2: you should feel really you know, like if like I
- 25:06Speaker 2: don't want to say it forbid, if you do it tomorrow,
- 25:09Speaker 2: you can you know what what else is there at
- 25:11Speaker 2: this point? But there is a lot more. So there
- 25:13Speaker 2: is a lot more, which you know that because you know,
- 25:16Speaker 2: if there's other things that are close to you that
- 25:18Speaker 2: you want to do. Family right, maybe get married one day.
- 25:22Speaker 3: I love to Yeah, I love kids. I do want kids.
- 25:25Speaker 3: I want kids pretty soon.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Actually you do.
- 25:28Speaker 2: You better tell you you better. She wants kids, so
- 25:31Speaker 2: you better be ready. You want a lot of kids.
- 25:35Speaker 4: I mean I wouldn't mind if I could. I mean,
- 25:38Speaker 4: they're expensive, they're expensive.
- 25:40Speaker 3: So if I could, if I could give them the
- 25:41Speaker 3: life that they deserve, absolutely, you know, I wouldn't get
- 25:45Speaker 3: too ahead of myself.
- 25:46Speaker 2: But you know what the best thing to give to
- 25:48Speaker 2: a kid, You'll love them mother. That's the best thing
- 25:52Speaker 2: to love each other. When then when kids come out
- 25:53Speaker 2: of a loving home, it is there. It's just the
- 25:56Speaker 2: best thing in the world. No one, no money could
- 25:58Speaker 2: ever buy that. I mean, of course money helps, you know,
- 26:01Speaker 2: but it's not everything, you know, it's it's that that
- 26:05Speaker 2: that love that you have for each other. So you
- 26:08Speaker 2: want to know why I call it cat to pudding.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Everybody wants to know. So basically, like it came out
- 26:15Speaker 2: from in a conversation because we were talking about, like,
- 26:19Speaker 2: you know, when when we were just developing the podcast,
- 26:22Speaker 2: I was like, I can't believe what my life has
- 26:24Speaker 2: has turned into. I went from you know, like you,
- 26:26Speaker 2: I was out, I was in in the public parties, vacations,
- 26:31Speaker 2: and now it's me home at night, petting my cats,
- 26:36Speaker 2: putting out of a pot, like a hot pudding out
- 26:38Speaker 2: of a pot, and I go, what happened to me?
- 26:40Speaker 2: So basically, hot right out of the pot. Yeah, like
- 26:42Speaker 2: I get it off the stove and I put my
- 26:45Speaker 2: and my my, my significant other brigs it to me.
- 26:48Speaker 2: And I'm sitting there with hot with a hot pot
- 26:50Speaker 2: and the hot pudding eating and out of the pot.
- 26:52Speaker 2: That's what my life has. It's delicious. It's the best thing.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Mighty fine chocolate pudding. Hot is delicious. I eat it right,
- 27:00Speaker 2: but then I eat the rest of it want of
- 27:01Speaker 2: cools off too. So that's my life. So we called
- 27:05Speaker 2: the show Cats and Pudding because the show is about
- 27:07Speaker 2: cats and pudding. It's from everything from cats to pudding.
- 27:11Speaker 4: And you're Italian.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Very how could you tell? I could tell with my hands.
- 27:18Speaker 4: My grandpa's Italian.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Actually is the Italian Sicilian.
- 27:22Speaker 4: He's definitely Italian.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Well, well, I'm Cicilian, but it's the same thing. But
- 27:27Speaker 2: Sicilians will say, what's Sicilian because it's southern Italy.
- 27:30Speaker 4: So but he's big on his meat balls. We love
- 27:34Speaker 4: our balls, right, we definitely love it.
- 27:40Speaker 2: So what is what is next for you?
- 27:42Speaker 4: Like?
- 27:42Speaker 2: What are you doing like this? So this week? What
- 27:44Speaker 2: would be like an event you would go through this week?
- 27:46Speaker 4: Oh? So this week?
- 27:48Speaker 3: I mean I don't know exactly when this is going
- 27:49Speaker 3: to air, but as of right now, I fly back
- 27:52Speaker 3: to Miami tomorrow and I have a few events that
- 27:55Speaker 3: I'm hosting for art Basil.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Oh wow, yeah, so I'm doing like at dinner with
- 28:01Speaker 4: Taylor Port.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Uh, there's a there's this place called Pilos Tequila Garden.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Shout out to Pilos.
- 28:09Speaker 2: I love pillows before. It's in Miami.
- 28:11Speaker 4: It's in Miami Winwood.
- 28:13Speaker 2: So I have a house in far.
- 28:15Speaker 4: And so I go to a lot.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Yeah, not as much as I used to again and
- 28:20Speaker 2: I'm home eating pudding and patting my cats when I
- 28:23Speaker 2: was younger Ice.
- 28:25Speaker 4: That's hilarious.
- 28:26Speaker 3: But and then and then the toy drive on the
- 28:29Speaker 3: tenth so I'm performing with with a huge choir. Is
- 28:33Speaker 3: going to be Miami's biggest choir they've ever seen.
- 28:35Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 28:36Speaker 3: They already have almost seven hundred v R s v
- 28:40Speaker 3: ps and you know, we plan.
- 28:43Speaker 2: I want to come to one of your events because
- 28:45Speaker 2: I'm in Florida once a month, so next time I'll
- 28:49Speaker 2: take a night away from my cats and my pudding
- 28:51Speaker 2: and I'll come.
- 28:52Speaker 4: I do a lot of positive things, you know what
- 28:55Speaker 4: I'm saying.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I like that you're a very positive person. You've got
- 28:57Speaker 2: a good you got a good you know, a good
- 29:00Speaker 2: a good aura about you.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Thank you, thank you so much.
- 29:02Speaker 2: You're good. And you're an old soul. Yes, definitely adult sul.
- 29:08Speaker 3: I mean I grew up with you know, my family,
- 29:12Speaker 3: My family, for the most part, no one was like
- 29:15Speaker 3: my age. Everybody was older, and I take from them,
- 29:20Speaker 3: and you know, they had kids, and their kids are
- 29:23Speaker 3: obviously a lot younger. So I'm like word in between,
- 29:28Speaker 3: like nobody's I can't hang out with the older ones.
- 29:31Speaker 4: And they want to go out.
- 29:32Speaker 2: So did you did you sit at the kids table
- 29:34Speaker 2: or at the adults table?
- 29:35Speaker 4: I was at the kids table. I had to be there.
- 29:39Speaker 2: You like the referea.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Yeah, right, exactly, that's exactly.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Just sit over there. Let them go sit at the
- 29:44Speaker 2: kids table. Well, you're not at the kids table anymore.
- 29:47Speaker 4: No fun at the kids table. It was.
- 29:52Speaker 2: They all like, look, uncle, Justin. They love you, right,
- 29:55Speaker 2: I'm sure you're probably a lot of fun with them.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Oh yeah, do you have any brother the sisters I have?
- 30:02Speaker 3: Actually I have a new younger brother now by the
- 30:06Speaker 3: name of Sebastian beautiful. Yeah, but I have a younger
- 30:10Speaker 3: brother named Brandon as well. He is twenty four.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Yeah, and you see them all the time.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Every so often. Well, my the youngest one is nine
- 30:22Speaker 4: ten months.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Ah, that's so cute.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Yeah, actually I haven't met him yet. You know, my
- 30:30Speaker 4: parents aren't necessarily together. My dad lives in Connecticut, and
- 30:35Speaker 4: it gets hard trying to just like meet up and whatnot.
- 30:38Speaker 4: But yeah, I'm excited to meet my brother.
- 30:42Speaker 2: So cute. That probably inspire you don't want to get
- 30:46Speaker 2: married a baby, have a baby toon.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Look, I'm a family man, I'm ready for it.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I love it. I love you. Justin so cute, You're adorable.
