  travel again, in a couple weeks. But yeah, as my background says,

  the trip was successful. To say the least quiet.

  How are you today, sir? August might be my least

  favorite month of the year for so many reasons.

  August always feels like chaos. Now I know that I root for

  chaos, not in my life, I do not enjoy the month of August for

  the most part. That's funny.

  I'm exhausted too. I am ready to be home.

  The crew died last week and ready to get back.

  I am in Monaco currently and I'm ready to get back to to the

  season before you start to season it in Monaco.

  That's, it's a wonderful place to end the season.

  This is it and it is and to I don't think people who, who sort

  of like track really understand how fatiguing track can be.

  I mean, that's what sir Lucius looks like after going home from

  world. Ships regrouping and then going
• 2:59
  to Budapest and then and then Monaco like he like he didn't

  have to race in those places he does.

  He doesn't have the rest of the diamond League to go & The
• 3:12
  Diamond League final. So like I want people to
• 3:15
  understand like in order to do the entire Diamond League season
• 3:19
  as a track and field athlete. It's is it four continents is
• 3:23
  there a diamond League meetings is?

  I know there's North America Africa, Asia and Europe.

  I just can't remember if there's a diamond League meeting South
• 3:31
  America but yeah, it's a lot, it's a lot.

  Alright. So sure lucious is signed up to

  take a vacation from this quote, unquote vacation in Monaco.

  At this point completely. This wasn't, this wasn't quite

  the vacation considering that they stay.

  They seem to have, will we know where my bag is?

  But no one seems to be willing to put it on a plane so I can

  get to me. So it's just sitting and I don't

  know where it's sitting but I know, I know where it is.

  I just don't know where exactly it is.

  It's in Austria, is it was in Vietnam and that's all I know is

  do what you got to do. Exactly Nation school and

  program in the world of the portal.

  It truly helps it does. And the thing is now once you

  sign up, you get to coach him. 100% and they'll be here in.

  All right, well with that being said, you know, even though it's

  been non collegiate for us right now, because a lot of in a lot
• 7:17
  of track that's been going on in this this Passover time.

  But we would, the NCAA was Culvert that pass over time.

  We've had various professional meet championships I think that
• 7:29
  that nature, so to just glibly, go over because we, like our
• 7:34
  job, the u20s championship happened, and Cali Colombia.

  The governor was so awesome and he was there in person, you
• 7:44
  know, there are a lot of records that were broken Governor.
• 7:48
  Just tell us about a few things that you saw nothing specific in
• 7:50
  regards to who, but what you saw first of all, I feel like It was
• 8:00
  a lot of Retribution that was going on.
• 8:04
  In terms of, you know, kids that might have been, you know,
• 8:08
  overlooked kids that might have been, you know, passed over
• 8:13
  whatever it clearly was a an opportunity for those kids to
• 8:20
  really show what they can do. The results were unbelievable,
• 8:25
  I'd say across the board, you know, USA team.
• 8:31
  I mean they came out and did what USA does but Jamaica to out
• 8:36
  metal. The United States that was quite
• 8:39
  remarkable. USA won the medal table because
• 8:43
  they had the most gold medals. But in terms of the most metals
• 8:47
  period, you know, Jamaica got 16 I believe and USA got 6015 so
• 8:52
  explain that for the audience. But I know a lot of people
• 8:56
  including myself have been confused about that in the past.

  Why does Team USA win the medal table for most goals?

  If we are out metal Dover. All right, so that's always been
• 9:09
  a point of contention and a question that's always been put
• 9:14
  up in the air. My only guess, is that gold
• 9:19
  medals mean more as far as the total but I've never heard about
• 9:26
  points. I've never heard about you know,

  points allotted To, you know, a metal of a Pacific, a specific
• 9:34
  persuasion, but clearly, you know, in all the Championships,
• 9:40
  I've ever been a part of the country, with the most goals
• 9:44
  wins, the medal table. And that's it's very strange.

  I mean, we could probably go back, you know, remember the the
• 9:55
  2000 Olympics, the the 04 Olympics.

  I mean there were there were some questionable you know in
• 10:06
  terms of the you know who won the medal table and it's a big
• 10:10
  deal. It is a big federation's,

  countries governments you know it's a big deal.

  So so we do not have any proof or like there's no we don't know

  that there's a that there's a point system attached to the
• 10:28
  metal. No.

  I've never Seen, I've never seen the the the thought process or

  the, you know, any nuts and bolts behind, you know, how they
• 10:39
  do this, but it was said going into the 4x4, that the United

  States needed to win the 4x4 on the men's side in order to win

  the overall medal table. And you know, they won and they
• 10:57
  once. Oh but there is There.

  I don't know. Someone needs to bring that to

  the floor. I guess to, to answer that

  said, USA has to win the 4x4 in order to go to the overall medal

  table. And that is interesting.

  Yes it is. so, my takeaway from afar about you 20s, I mean,

  obviously it was a very exciting meat and You know, as chew

  alluded to we're not going to get into the specifics of any
• 11:46
  individual performances because of, you know, proper etiquette
• 11:50
  and recruiting things but across the board I would say especially
• 11:55
  in events where Americans are thought to traditionally be
• 11:59
  dominant. That ain't the case no more and
• 12:05
  You know, from our perspective, you know, we're an American
• 12:09
  Centric, show, I think, I think that's fair to say, we need to
• 12:14
  step our game up across the board.
• 12:15
  Because if those trends that you 20s, Continue for the next two,
• 12:21
  three, four years. There will be a lot of problems
• 12:24
  in the middle table, moving forward.

  Okay, so we talked about this, we did not medal in the women's
• 12:35
  side and of 100 200 400 400 hurdles at the World
• 12:40
  Championships. Hmm.

  Yep. So it sounds to me like this is
• 12:43
  a continuing Trend, you know, that's you know that the we need
• 12:48
  to step our game up. Well.

  It's interesting. I was, you know, privy to be on
• 12:54
  a coaches panel, they have a coaches Clinic that Wendy,
• 13:00
  Vereen is a part of and you know she she corralled me and had me
• 13:08
  come on and you know so just you know all the conversations that
• 13:13
  were coming up one of the issues was you know why the
• 13:19
  Representation at the, at the, at the USA u-20, meat is not
• 13:26
  where it should be, you know, and that's a great question and
• 13:31
  that that is, you know, so when you, when you have the Brooks
• 13:36
  meet, you have the Nike meet, you have the balance meat and
• 13:44
  these athletes are being wooed. To go to these meats.
• 13:48
  And the general consensus is that.
• 13:50
  Well, if I go to u20s, I'm going up against College freshman,
• 13:55
  right? Why, why am I going there to do
• 13:57
  this? When I can walk away with this
• 13:59
  nice shiny bag or or you call it, call it what it is, you
• 14:05
  know? So when you have all of these
• 14:08
  things that are just being layered on top of each other and
• 14:12
  it's pulling away from what I mean, what should matter Is,
• 14:17
  here's an opportunity to represent your country, right?
• 14:22
  And what used to matter? That's that used to be the draw.

  I mean, they I mean the the representation certain events
• 14:30
  USA's was absolutely deplorable, it just was no one showed up,
• 14:35
  you know, so not not to go too far down that rabbit hole goes
• 14:39
  up. I'm sure we could get all the
• 14:41
  way down there. There you go.

  I know this. I know this will never happen
• 14:59
  but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway.

  It would be really nice to see the shoe companies, because

  those are the sponsors of these quote-unquote.

  National Championship summer meets, right?

  For the betterment of the sport, it would be awesome to see.

  If people come together put on one competition every year and
• 15:23
  rotated. So if for example, if Nike wants
• 15:26
  their meat to be in the cathedral great next year, it's
• 15:30
  the Nike meet in the cathedral, but all the sponsors get to
• 15:34
  throw their swag around. And then the next year, it's the
• 15:38
  Adidas meet in New York and, you know, everybody gets a thorough
• 15:42
  that's why I like we don't need four and five of these meats and
• 15:45
  if you get all the High school kids in one place and then give
• 15:49
  them a, you know, there's a two-week break, then I imagine
• 15:51
  USA's, would you know you 20s would be more unbelievable.

  Yeah, I mean for the betterment of sport can we do that?

  I know what angle happened, you know.
• 15:59
  But hey hey. So let me Venture down this this

  this whole that you guys have done and now widened for me I

  gave you for me to get myself into it, okay?

  So the first thing I want to say to you is this okay like I don't

  I'm not going to buy into this then it's not well advertised

  I'm not going to buy into it that the other meats are up
• 16:25
  against because that's been going on for a while, right?

  What I'm going to say to you is that the problem is simple like

  okay the high school kids I have always the good ones.

  Have always wanted to go to this this meat and rut go
• 16:41
  head-to-head against the college freshman.

  Anybody else in the country, right?

  So the people avoiding this it again lends to the problem that
• 16:49
  we have and I'm going to continue to have that there then
• 16:53
  they're dodging competition. Yeah.

  Right. So there's my deal because II

  everybody, if you want to make the under-20 team, you know,
• 17:02
  when the meat is hmm right here. If you want to make the under-20
• 17:06
  team, you know, and your coach know this is on our schedule.

  This is our goal because their kids that showed up high school
• 17:11
  kids that showed up and ran. Well yesterday.

  So my thing is this is that again?

  I think it's just it's an excuse.

  It's a way of you know, trying to mask the issue we have here
• 17:22
  and the bottom line is that okay, if I am a good high school
• 17:27
  athlete and I want to represent my country.

  If I'm afraid to face the college freshman, when I'm a
• 17:34
  high school. Senior.
• 17:36
  Why am I supposed to think? I'm not going to be afraid when
• 17:38
  I'm a college freshman. You to face the collegiate mean,
• 17:42
  the ploop regions and the post leaders in the senior
• 17:44
  competition. Exactly.
• 17:46
  Here's my issue. So are we, are we laying that at
• 17:49
  the feet of the coaches? So you're going to kind of feel.
• 17:52
  Like I don't understand that system, they don't understand.

  That the u-20 system is like the foreshadow for the Olympics,
• 18:09
  making the world to, I'm sorry that you and chew way.

  Do understand. No, no wait, hold on, let me

  finish because I'm sorry. But these are the same people
• 18:21
  that have been having people go to these meats for ages?
• 18:25
  Yeah, okay, their ages. Okay, so let's call it.

  What it is? They're ducking competition.
• 18:32
  I don't want my kids going to go there because he might B or she
• 18:35
  might get beat and they might lose their confidence.
• 18:38
  Okay. So they got to see him
• 18:40
  eventually well and I think but the other party doesn't think
• 18:45
  that they don't want it and I'm going to this is very outlandish
• 18:48
  for me to say, Them getting to Cali, Colombia to be there for
• 18:54
  their athlete because the athletes can register their
• 18:56
  course coaches in the coaches can travel, or they can just
• 18:59
  travel and being them for them. I, as a coach, I'm insecure to
• 19:04
  relinquish that power, to give it to the event, group coach,
• 19:07
  for Team USA and say do your best job.
• 19:10
  Fearful of that you're full of This child is and they are child
• 19:16
  children at that point. This child isn't ready for this
• 19:19
  level because that's what I believe versus letting them
• 19:22
  experience it. And whether they have the
• 19:25
  failure learning how to deal with that and kind of grow past
• 19:28
  that those things. So, when I say on the, on the
• 19:31
  unknowing of the coach that I'm doing of the coach of how the
• 19:34
  athletes are going to react, and that's the ability your, I have
• 19:39
  specific examples, like of course, whenever anybody wants
• 19:42
  to have a conversation off are about this, but it's just, it's
• 19:45
  really unfortunate that these coaches are shielding for their
• 19:50
  own self and then for the protection of their athlete
• 19:55
  because they will come undone and it's like you're letting
• 20:00
  them go quote unquote in the next couple years.
• 20:02
  Anyways, supposedly we know that's not true either.
• 20:06
  So Go ahead, try. I'm done.

  I wasn't going to weigh in on this topic, right?

  The hole was deep and people were already in it and it wasn't
• 20:19
  anything. You know what?

  Listen, at the end of the day, I'm here with the backhoe to
• 20:24
  make this hole large enough for a whole city to fit it.

  If you want to make an Olympic team, the very first thing that
• 20:34
  you need to do is make a junior team.
• 20:39
  If you want to go coach, if you want, it's the best predictor.
• 20:43
  If you want to coach at the highest level, if you want
• 20:47
  people to talk about you in the ilk of the best coaches at this
• 20:52
  level, then you better figure it out, you better figure out how
• 20:56
  to have your athletes there and you better figure out how to
• 20:58
  have them ready to go. Both at the junior meet and at
• 21:02
  the world championship meet. Because here's the truth.
• 21:08
  The athletes want to go. And when you try to hide them
• 21:13
  from it and no, we're not going to do that.
• 21:15
  And we're going to do this and and, and all that stuff for
• 21:17
  yourself. As an age group coach, and a
• 21:20
  club coach. When you're, when you're trying
• 21:22
  to protect your own skin and your own pride and you don't
• 21:25
  want to bang against the college coaches and you don't want to
• 21:28
  actually see whether you all the smack that you talk on the
• 21:31
  internet is true, right? If you don't want to do any of
• 21:35
  that. When your kid gets to college
• 21:39
  the following year and one of these wonderful coaches on the
• 21:43
  panel, coaches them, and then, they go to Juniors and they
• 21:47
  Crush people, right? Or Worse, they're really good.
• 21:50
  They go to Juniors and it and they're a little tight because
• 21:53
  they haven't been at this level, that's your fault.
• 21:56
  Yeah, if your look in the sport of track and field or Talent
• 22:01
  level, dictates who you have to go against, right, like what?
• 22:04
  Let's, let's let's talk about. Elephant, from an age group
• 22:07
  perspective. Ariane night and should be at
• 22:11
  these Junior meats and Janet these Junior competitions
• 22:15
  punching people in the face, right?
• 22:17
  But the truth. But here's the truth, right?
• 22:20
  Look, it was like we will create.
• 22:21
  When will clay graduated from high school early to go into
• 22:24
  college? A second semester of high
• 22:25
  school, right? Your talent dictates where you
• 22:28
  should be, and who you should be competing against not your age.
• 22:33
  That's right. Right.
• 22:35
  We, I was on junior teams with people who were, I mean the
• 22:39
  junior team I made. My freshman year in college, I
• 22:40
  was on the junior team. Somebody who was on their third
• 22:44
  junior team. Yeah.
• 22:47
  Right. Somebody who had made a junior
• 22:48
  team at 15 so at the end of the day, the idea that you can hide
• 22:54
  them or hide yourself or any of this nonsense away from the best
• 22:59
  competition on the planet is dumb because the track and field
• 23:01
  just like baseball just like soccer or Global Sports and
• 23:05
  being the best fish in your little Pond is dumb.
• 23:09
  So let's move on to something better if people don't want to
• 23:12
  compete. Look, I've said this a million
• 23:15
  times and Sir lucious, laughs every time.
• 23:17
  Say it, if you're scared, get a dog.
• 23:19
  Because in the United States, we don't coach no punks.
• 23:21
  So I'm going to throw this in there because it's too good not
• 23:26
  to Obviously, you know, everybody comes to this
• 23:31
  profession of coaching from different angles, right?
• 23:35
  My path was I started out coaching nine-year-old.
• 23:38
  Little kids quickly. Jumped up to coaching high
• 23:40
  school, kids and founded a club program.
• 23:44
  The only goal we had every year was get to the junior.
• 23:48
  Mmm. Like that was the whole thing.
• 23:51
  Mmm. And you know, probably my most
• 23:55
  successful Junior, you know, athlete at the time.
• 23:58
  Athlete was Jacqueline coward. Who broke High School National
• 24:02
  records in the hurdles? Well, no one cared at us
• 24:06
  Juniors. We had to go in there and she
• 24:09
  got her head busted by, by, by Queen Harrison.
• 24:15
  And, and Christy Caster who were freshmen at Virginia Tech at
• 24:18
  that moment and you know what? It was the best possible thing
• 24:20
  that could have happened to her. Because she had to regroup, come
• 24:24
  back in two days and make the 400 hurdle team running 5720 in
• 24:30
  in high school because she was pissed off that she got her head
• 24:33
  busted by, you know, college people.
• 24:36
  And honestly, that experience for me as a coach, was the
• 24:40
  moment where I realized like actually, you know what I can do
• 24:43
  this thing at the next level. So all of you High School
• 24:48
  coaches Club coaches, who got a lot to say. if you want to know
• 24:53
  how you measure, Get your kids to the u-20.
• 24:57
  Me and find out because you're never going to know otherwise.

  Yeah, and A Team USA kids way cooler than a new balance or
• 25:05
  Nike backpack on the same. I mean just a swag is better if
• 25:09
  you make the team, I sure hope it's as good, it's as good as
• 25:14
  making an Olympic team. When you're 19 years old, I
• 25:17
  promise you, it's Norm man, but something that was said earlier,
• 25:22
  I'm going to segue. Is that the lack of presence as
• 25:28
  we stated it to be a and whatnot of Teen USA.
• 25:33
  Obviously, there was a lack of presence at Commonwealth because
• 25:35
  that's not a thing. But the the overwhelming New
• 25:42
  presence. Not many new presence has really
• 25:45
  strong. Unseen presence has in the
• 25:49
  recent these of other countries, right?
• 25:52
  Like we had some not out of nowhere but unexpected wins in
• 25:57
  the field events. You know, there was a comment
• 26:01
  made like the African countries are doing a lot.
• 26:05
  Winning a lot, you know. So I mean, But that shift gears
• 26:10
  for Commonwealth specifically first and just all the, I mean,
• 26:14
  okay, hold on, we we set it. Well I think Think we didn't
• 26:18
  record yet whenever it happened but the show came out on the day
• 26:21
  that it had days that it happened.
• 26:23
  Congratulations to Linden. Well, I'll take a round of
• 26:27
  applause for myself even though I wasn't there Legend one
• 26:31
  Commonwealth in the decathlon, so that was super awesome.
• 26:35
  But, I mean, there are tons more things that were awesome that
• 26:38
  happened there as well. Well, I mean that's Lamar's he
• 26:41
  was there. So sir, educate us on The the I
• 26:49
  was once colonized by by the English games, as I like, to
• 26:54
  call him War, it's an amazing experience.
• 26:57
  I will tell you this as someone who was from the United States,
• 27:00
  clearly a country, that was not colonized by Great Britain.

  It's, they tried. They tried.

  They tried with all their might, they tried?

  You know look I'm not want people who like counts Flags but

  I'll say this when you look up at the flags at the stadium you
• 27:23
  think you're at the Olympics because there's a lot of
• 27:26
  countries that are in the Commonwealth and you know what's
• 27:29
  funny? This was one thing that I did
• 27:31
  get to see that I want to share this with the fans that that I
• 27:33
  thought was cool that most people don't think about when
• 27:37
  you go to the Olympics and World Championships, Great Britain,
• 27:40
  competes as Great Britain, but in the Commonwealth Games, it's
• 27:43
  just England and Northern Ireland and Wales and suddenly
• 27:50
  it's awesome to see those people compete for their own flags and
• 27:58
  that was cool to see. That was cool to see what.

  Yeah. Like look the Commonwealth Games
• 28:08
  ended up being like the greatest junior varsity track meet in the
• 28:12
  world, right? Because it that when you first
• 28:15
  got there, there was a whole lot of talk about the people who are
• 28:19
  in the Commonwealth who weren't competing at the meat, right?
• 28:24
  Shelly, Anna, Sharika, didn't compete, but, but Elaine did,
• 28:32
  and, you know, Chopra didn't compete for India.
• 28:37
  But Anderson Peters did. It was a lot of those
• 28:40
  conversations. Let me just tell you something.

  Nobody at the meat who was competing tared.
