- 0:00It's bonus time, we're honored Athletics, LLC would allow us to
- 0:03present to you the audio version of their weekly Friday Night,
- 0:06YouTube series. Let's get to and see what the
- 0:08crew has in store this week. One.
- 0:44Oh, man. Isn't it funny?
- 0:45How, like we're in August now? And we think that things are
- 0:48slower and yet things are seem to be more chaotic because
- 0:53they're not structured, right? You don't have any structure to
- 0:56know where we're going to be at the certain time and
- 0:58anticipation. So, with that being said,
- 1:01welcome one. Welcome all.
- 1:03We're here for another fun episode and let's get it
- 1:06started. So we've lost this one up.
- 1:10Commonwealth Lamar. Are you feeling nowadays, sir?
- 1:15I'm good. My body.
- 1:17Almost knows what time zone. I'm in just in time, for me to
- 1:21travel again, in a couple weeks. But yeah, as my background says,
- 1:26the trip was successful. To say the least quiet.
- 1:32How are you today, sir? August might be my least
- 1:37favorite month of the year for so many reasons.
- 1:40August always feels like chaos. Now I know that I root for
- 1:44chaos, not in my life, I do not enjoy the month of August for
- 1:51the most part. That's funny.
- 1:54So Lucius, how are you sir? So I am.
- 1:58I'm exhausted too. I am ready to be home.
- 2:03I'm ready to be on vacation. I'm just ready.
- 2:06And yeah, that's all I got today.
- 2:11I'm tired. I'm tired and a long Year.
- 2:14All right, I am traveling with a few of the crew.
- 2:17The crew died last week and ready to get back.
- 2:21I am in Monaco currently and I'm ready to get back to to the
- 2:25states. I was just going to say two
- 2:31things with that one. What a great way to end the
- 2:35season before you start to season it in Monaco.
- 2:38That's, it's a wonderful place to end the season.
- 2:41This is it and it is and to I don't think people who, who sort
- 2:47of like track really understand how fatiguing track can be.
- 2:52I mean, that's what sir Lucius looks like after going home from
- 2:56world. Ships regrouping and then going
- 2:59to Budapest and then and then Monaco like he like he didn't
- 3:05have to race in those places he does.
- 3:08He doesn't have the rest of the diamond League to go & The
- 3:12Diamond League final. So like I want people to
- 3:15understand like in order to do the entire Diamond League season
- 3:19as a track and field athlete. It's is it four continents is
- 3:23there a diamond League meetings is?
- 3:25I know there's North America Africa, Asia and Europe.
- 3:29I just can't remember if there's a diamond League meeting South
- 3:31America but yeah, it's a lot, it's a lot.
- 3:38Alright. So sure lucious is signed up to
- 3:40take a vacation from this quote, unquote vacation in Monaco.
- 3:43At this point completely. This wasn't, this wasn't quite
- 3:47the vacation considering that they stay.
- 3:50They seem to have, will we know where my bag is?
- 3:53But no one seems to be willing to put it on a plane so I can
- 3:56get to me. So it's just sitting and I don't
- 4:01know where it's sitting but I know, I know where it is.
- 4:03I just don't know where exactly it is.
- 4:05But so, your bag is in your bag, is it hungry?
- 4:10It's in Austria, is it was in Vietnam and that's all I know is
- 4:16all I got. This is the only piece that
- 4:21makes you human like the rest of us is that your bag got lost.
- 4:28He has no control over, right? Right, exactly Governor, how are
- 4:32you today, sir? Oh, you know, August Madness,
- 4:38chaos. You know, we had our first full
- 4:42staff meeting today. And, you know, it's like a
- 4:48subtle reminder that I did not get a vacation me personally.
- 4:56I mean I mean, yeah. So here we are.
- 4:59We're a couple weeks away from school starting, so just trying
- 5:04to get my mind right? That's it.
- 5:09You know, I love you. But I need you to remind us.
- 5:27Next week. Yeah, exactly like those because
- 5:30that's when the incoming freshman will be on campus next
- 5:32week, so, yeah. Right.
- 5:37If it makes you feel any better, I still have a player, I'm
- 5:39trying to get into school. So does not make us feel better.
- 5:45That's right. Appreciate the effort to help
- 5:48make us feel better. Not not to delay things here.
- 5:52But lucious will have two more people that signed by the in the
- 5:55transfer portal before his plane lands in America.
- 6:02Wow, Alice funny. That was funny.
- 6:08Well, I mean for the for the record, let me I'm not gonna
- 6:13descend myself here, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna call.
- 6:16I was going to call a spade, a spade.
- 6:18Like you guys all know when this whole portal thing happened, I'm
- 6:21like I'm good. I'm going to stay with the high
- 6:24school kids and then we got our heads beat in the first year and
- 6:27I'm like, I think I've been looking through this portal
- 6:29thing, right. And it's kind of lost its mind,
- 6:33but survival of the fittest baby, do we can do, is I got to
- 6:38do what you got to do. Exactly Nation school and
- 6:46program in the world of the portal.
- 6:49It truly helps it does. And the thing is now once you
- 6:56sign up, you get to coach him. 100% and they'll be here in.
- 7:02They'll be here in two weeks, right Governor man.
- 7:07All right, well with that being said, you know, even though it's
- 7:12been non collegiate for us right now, because a lot of in a lot
- 7:17of track that's been going on in this this Passover time.
- 7:21But we would, the NCAA was Culvert that pass over time.
- 7:25We've had various professional meet championships I think that
- 7:29that nature, so to just glibly, go over because we, like our
- 7:34job, the u20s championship happened, and Cali Colombia.
- 7:39The governor was so awesome and he was there in person, you
- 7:44know, there are a lot of records that were broken Governor.
- 7:48Just tell us about a few things that you saw nothing specific in
- 7:50regards to who, but what you saw first of all, I feel like It was
- 8:00a lot of Retribution that was going on.
- 8:04In terms of, you know, kids that might have been, you know,
- 8:08overlooked kids that might have been, you know, passed over
- 8:13whatever it clearly was a an opportunity for those kids to
- 8:20really show what they can do. The results were unbelievable,
- 8:25I'd say across the board, you know, USA team.
- 8:31I mean they came out and did what USA does but Jamaica to out
- 8:36metal. The United States that was quite
- 8:39remarkable. USA won the medal table because
- 8:43they had the most gold medals. But in terms of the most metals
- 8:47period, you know, Jamaica got 16 I believe and USA got 6015 so
- 8:52explain that for the audience. But I know a lot of people
- 8:56including myself have been confused about that in the past.
- 9:00Why does Team USA win the medal table for most goals?
- 9:05If we are out metal Dover. All right, so that's always been
- 9:09a point of contention and a question that's always been put
- 9:14up in the air. My only guess, is that gold
- 9:19medals mean more as far as the total but I've never heard about
- 9:26points. I've never heard about you know,
- 9:29points allotted To, you know, a metal of a Pacific, a specific
- 9:34persuasion, but clearly, you know, in all the Championships,
- 9:40I've ever been a part of the country, with the most goals
- 9:44wins, the medal table. And that's it's very strange.
- 9:50I mean, we could probably go back, you know, remember the the
- 9:552000 Olympics, the the 04 Olympics.
- 10:00I mean there were there were some questionable you know in
- 10:06terms of the you know who won the medal table and it's a big
- 10:10deal. It is a big federation's,
- 10:14countries governments you know it's a big deal.
- 10:18So so we do not have any proof or like there's no we don't know
- 10:24that there's a that there's a point system attached to the
- 10:28metal. No.
- 10:29I've never Seen, I've never seen the the the thought process or
- 10:35the, you know, any nuts and bolts behind, you know, how they
- 10:39do this, but it was said going into the 4x4, that the United
- 10:45States needed to win the 4x4 on the men's side in order to win
- 10:49the overall medal table. And you know, they won and they
- 10:57once. Oh but there is There.
- 11:00I don't know. Someone needs to bring that to
- 11:02the floor. I guess to, to answer that
- 11:04question. What question?
- 11:07Yes, was it American? It was saying this.
- 11:11No no, no, no. This was someone from World
- 11:14Athletics things on the broadcast to.
- 11:17Yeah. Like it literally be literally
- 11:20said, USA has to win the 4x4 in order to go to the overall medal
- 11:26table. And that is interesting.
- 11:30Yes it is. so, my takeaway from afar about you 20s, I mean,
- 11:38obviously it was a very exciting meat and You know, as chew
- 11:43alluded to we're not going to get into the specifics of any
- 11:46individual performances because of, you know, proper etiquette
- 11:50and recruiting things but across the board I would say especially
- 11:55in events where Americans are thought to traditionally be
- 11:59dominant. That ain't the case no more and
- 12:05You know, from our perspective, you know, we're an American
- 12:09Centric, show, I think, I think that's fair to say, we need to
- 12:14step our game up across the board.
- 12:15Because if those trends that you 20s, Continue for the next two,
- 12:21three, four years. There will be a lot of problems
- 12:24in the middle table, moving forward.
- 12:27Okay, so we talked about this, we did not medal in the women's
- 12:35side and of 100 200 400 400 hurdles at the World
- 12:40Championships. Hmm.
- 12:42Yep. So it sounds to me like this is
- 12:43a continuing Trend, you know, that's you know that the we need
- 12:48to step our game up. Well.
- 12:49It's interesting. I was, you know, privy to be on
- 12:54a coaches panel, they have a coaches Clinic that Wendy,
- 13:00Vereen is a part of and you know she she corralled me and had me
- 13:08come on and you know so just you know all the conversations that
- 13:13were coming up one of the issues was you know why the
- 13:19Representation at the, at the, at the USA u-20, meat is not
- 13:26where it should be, you know, and that's a great question and
- 13:31that that is, you know, so when you, when you have the Brooks
- 13:36meet, you have the Nike meet, you have the balance meat and
- 13:44these athletes are being wooed. To go to these meats.
- 13:48And the general consensus is that.
- 13:50Well, if I go to u20s, I'm going up against College freshman,
- 13:55right? Why, why am I going there to do
- 13:57this? When I can walk away with this
- 13:59nice shiny bag or or you call it, call it what it is, you
- 14:05know? So when you have all of these
- 14:08things that are just being layered on top of each other and
- 14:12it's pulling away from what I mean, what should matter Is,
- 14:17here's an opportunity to represent your country, right?
- 14:22And what used to matter? That's that used to be the draw.
- 14:25I mean, they I mean the the representation certain events
- 14:30USA's was absolutely deplorable, it just was no one showed up,
- 14:35you know, so not not to go too far down that rabbit hole goes
- 14:39up. I'm sure we could get all the
- 14:41way down there. There you go.
- 14:55I know this. I know this will never happen
- 14:59but I'm gonna throw it out there anyway.
- 15:01It would be really nice to see the shoe companies, because
- 15:05those are the sponsors of these quote-unquote.
- 15:08National Championship summer meets, right?
- 15:12For the betterment of the sport, it would be awesome to see.
- 15:16If people come together put on one competition every year and
- 15:23rotated. So if for example, if Nike wants
- 15:26their meat to be in the cathedral great next year, it's
- 15:30the Nike meet in the cathedral, but all the sponsors get to
- 15:34throw their swag around. And then the next year, it's the
- 15:38Adidas meet in New York and, you know, everybody gets a thorough
- 15:42that's why I like we don't need four and five of these meats and
- 15:45if you get all the High school kids in one place and then give
- 15:49them a, you know, there's a two-week break, then I imagine
- 15:51USA's, would you know you 20s would be more unbelievable.
- 15:55Yeah, I mean for the betterment of sport can we do that?
- 15:57I know what angle happened, you know.
- 15:59But hey hey. So let me Venture down this this
- 16:07this whole that you guys have done and now widened for me I
- 16:10gave you for me to get myself into it, okay?
- 16:14So the first thing I want to say to you is this okay like I don't
- 16:18I'm not going to buy into this then it's not well advertised
- 16:21I'm not going to buy into it that the other meats are up
- 16:25against because that's been going on for a while, right?
- 16:28What I'm going to say to you is that the problem is simple like
- 16:31okay the high school kids I have always the good ones.
- 16:38Have always wanted to go to this this meat and rut go
- 16:41head-to-head against the college freshman.
- 16:44Anybody else in the country, right?
- 16:46So the people avoiding this it again lends to the problem that
- 16:49we have and I'm going to continue to have that there then
- 16:53they're dodging competition. Yeah.
- 16:55Right. So there's my deal because II
- 16:58everybody, if you want to make the under-20 team, you know,
- 17:02when the meat is hmm right here. If you want to make the under-20
- 17:06team, you know, and your coach know this is on our schedule.
- 17:08This is our goal because their kids that showed up high school
- 17:11kids that showed up and ran. Well yesterday.
- 17:14So my thing is this is that again?
- 17:16I think it's just it's an excuse.
- 17:19It's a way of you know, trying to mask the issue we have here
- 17:22and the bottom line is that okay, if I am a good high school
- 17:27athlete and I want to represent my country.
- 17:31If I'm afraid to face the college freshman, when I'm a
- 17:34high school. Senior.
- 17:36Why am I supposed to think? I'm not going to be afraid when
- 17:38I'm a college freshman. You to face the collegiate mean,
- 17:42the ploop regions and the post leaders in the senior
- 17:44competition. Exactly.
- 17:46Here's my issue. So are we, are we laying that at
- 17:49the feet of the coaches? So you're going to kind of feel.
- 17:52Like I don't understand that system, they don't understand.
- 18:04That the u-20 system is like the foreshadow for the Olympics,
- 18:09making the world to, I'm sorry that you and chew way.
- 18:13Do understand. No, no wait, hold on, let me
- 18:16finish because I'm sorry. But these are the same people
- 18:21that have been having people go to these meats for ages?
- 18:25Yeah, okay, their ages. Okay, so let's call it.
- 18:29What it is? They're ducking competition.
- 18:32I don't want my kids going to go there because he might B or she
- 18:35might get beat and they might lose their confidence.
- 18:38Okay. So they got to see him
- 18:40eventually well and I think but the other party doesn't think
- 18:45that they don't want it and I'm going to this is very outlandish
- 18:48for me to say, Them getting to Cali, Colombia to be there for
- 18:54their athlete because the athletes can register their
- 18:56course coaches in the coaches can travel, or they can just
- 18:59travel and being them for them. I, as a coach, I'm insecure to
- 19:04relinquish that power, to give it to the event, group coach,
- 19:07for Team USA and say do your best job.
- 19:10Fearful of that you're full of This child is and they are child
- 19:16children at that point. This child isn't ready for this
- 19:19level because that's what I believe versus letting them
- 19:22experience it. And whether they have the
- 19:25failure learning how to deal with that and kind of grow past
- 19:28that those things. So, when I say on the, on the
- 19:31unknowing of the coach that I'm doing of the coach of how the
- 19:34athletes are going to react, and that's the ability your, I have
- 19:39specific examples, like of course, whenever anybody wants
- 19:42to have a conversation off are about this, but it's just, it's
- 19:45really unfortunate that these coaches are shielding for their
- 19:50own self and then for the protection of their athlete
- 19:55because they will come undone and it's like you're letting
- 20:00them go quote unquote in the next couple years.
- 20:02Anyways, supposedly we know that's not true either.
- 20:06So Go ahead, try. I'm done.
- 20:08I wasn't going to weigh in on this topic, right?
- 20:14The hole was deep and people were already in it and it wasn't
- 20:19anything. You know what?
- 20:20Listen, at the end of the day, I'm here with the backhoe to
- 20:24make this hole large enough for a whole city to fit it.
- 20:30If you want to make an Olympic team, the very first thing that
- 20:34you need to do is make a junior team.
- 20:39If you want to go coach, if you want, it's the best predictor.
- 20:43If you want to coach at the highest level, if you want
- 20:47people to talk about you in the ilk of the best coaches at this
- 20:52level, then you better figure it out, you better figure out how
- 20:56to have your athletes there and you better figure out how to
- 20:58have them ready to go. Both at the junior meet and at
- 21:02the world championship meet. Because here's the truth.
- 21:08The athletes want to go. And when you try to hide them
- 21:13from it and no, we're not going to do that.
- 21:15And we're going to do this and and, and all that stuff for
- 21:17yourself. As an age group coach, and a
- 21:20club coach. When you're, when you're trying
- 21:22to protect your own skin and your own pride and you don't
- 21:25want to bang against the college coaches and you don't want to
- 21:28actually see whether you all the smack that you talk on the
- 21:31internet is true, right? If you don't want to do any of
- 21:35that. When your kid gets to college
- 21:39the following year and one of these wonderful coaches on the
- 21:43panel, coaches them, and then, they go to Juniors and they
- 21:47Crush people, right? Or Worse, they're really good.
- 21:50They go to Juniors and it and they're a little tight because
- 21:53they haven't been at this level, that's your fault.
- 21:56Yeah, if your look in the sport of track and field or Talent
- 22:01level, dictates who you have to go against, right, like what?
- 22:04Let's, let's let's talk about. Elephant, from an age group
- 22:07perspective. Ariane night and should be at
- 22:11these Junior meats and Janet these Junior competitions
- 22:15punching people in the face, right?
- 22:17But the truth. But here's the truth, right?
- 22:20Look, it was like we will create.
- 22:21When will clay graduated from high school early to go into
- 22:24college? A second semester of high
- 22:25school, right? Your talent dictates where you
- 22:28should be, and who you should be competing against not your age.
- 22:33That's right. Right.
- 22:35We, I was on junior teams with people who were, I mean the
- 22:39junior team I made. My freshman year in college, I
- 22:40was on the junior team. Somebody who was on their third
- 22:44junior team. Yeah.
- 22:47Right. Somebody who had made a junior
- 22:48team at 15 so at the end of the day, the idea that you can hide
- 22:54them or hide yourself or any of this nonsense away from the best
- 22:59competition on the planet is dumb because the track and field
- 23:01just like baseball just like soccer or Global Sports and
- 23:05being the best fish in your little Pond is dumb.
- 23:09So let's move on to something better if people don't want to
- 23:12compete. Look, I've said this a million
- 23:15times and Sir lucious, laughs every time.
- 23:17Say it, if you're scared, get a dog.
- 23:19Because in the United States, we don't coach no punks.
- 23:21So I'm going to throw this in there because it's too good not
- 23:26to Obviously, you know, everybody comes to this
- 23:31profession of coaching from different angles, right?
- 23:35My path was I started out coaching nine-year-old.
- 23:38Little kids quickly. Jumped up to coaching high
- 23:40school, kids and founded a club program.
- 23:44The only goal we had every year was get to the junior.
- 23:48Mmm. Like that was the whole thing.
- 23:51Mmm. And you know, probably my most
- 23:55successful Junior, you know, athlete at the time.
- 23:58Athlete was Jacqueline coward. Who broke High School National
- 24:02records in the hurdles? Well, no one cared at us
- 24:06Juniors. We had to go in there and she
- 24:09got her head busted by, by, by Queen Harrison.
- 24:15And, and Christy Caster who were freshmen at Virginia Tech at
- 24:18that moment and you know what? It was the best possible thing
- 24:20that could have happened to her. Because she had to regroup, come
- 24:24back in two days and make the 400 hurdle team running 5720 in
- 24:30in high school because she was pissed off that she got her head
- 24:33busted by, you know, college people.
- 24:36And honestly, that experience for me as a coach, was the
- 24:40moment where I realized like actually, you know what I can do
- 24:43this thing at the next level. So all of you High School
- 24:48coaches Club coaches, who got a lot to say. if you want to know
- 24:53how you measure, Get your kids to the u-20.
- 24:57Me and find out because you're never going to know otherwise.
- 25:01Yeah, and A Team USA kids way cooler than a new balance or
- 25:05Nike backpack on the same. I mean just a swag is better if
- 25:09you make the team, I sure hope it's as good, it's as good as
- 25:14making an Olympic team. When you're 19 years old, I
- 25:17promise you, it's Norm man, but something that was said earlier,
- 25:22I'm going to segue. Is that the lack of presence as
- 25:28we stated it to be a and whatnot of Teen USA.
- 25:33Obviously, there was a lack of presence at Commonwealth because
- 25:35that's not a thing. But the the overwhelming New
- 25:42presence. Not many new presence has really
- 25:45strong. Unseen presence has in the
- 25:49recent these of other countries, right?
- 25:52Like we had some not out of nowhere but unexpected wins in
- 25:57the field events. You know, there was a comment
- 26:01made like the African countries are doing a lot.
- 26:05Winning a lot, you know. So I mean, But that shift gears
- 26:10for Commonwealth specifically first and just all the, I mean,
- 26:14okay, hold on, we we set it. Well I think Think we didn't
- 26:18record yet whenever it happened but the show came out on the day
- 26:21that it had days that it happened.
- 26:23Congratulations to Linden. Well, I'll take a round of
- 26:27applause for myself even though I wasn't there Legend one
- 26:31Commonwealth in the decathlon, so that was super awesome.
- 26:35But, I mean, there are tons more things that were awesome that
- 26:38happened there as well. Well, I mean that's Lamar's he
- 26:41was there. So sir, educate us on The the I
- 26:49was once colonized by by the English games, as I like, to
- 26:54call him War, it's an amazing experience.
- 26:57I will tell you this as someone who was from the United States,
- 27:00clearly a country, that was not colonized by Great Britain.
- 27:04It's, they tried. They tried.
- 27:09They tried with all their might, they tried?
- 27:14You know look I'm not want people who like counts Flags but
- 27:19I'll say this when you look up at the flags at the stadium you
- 27:23think you're at the Olympics because there's a lot of
- 27:26countries that are in the Commonwealth and you know what's
- 27:29funny? This was one thing that I did
- 27:31get to see that I want to share this with the fans that that I
- 27:33thought was cool that most people don't think about when
- 27:37you go to the Olympics and World Championships, Great Britain,
- 27:40competes as Great Britain, but in the Commonwealth Games, it's
- 27:43just England and Northern Ireland and Wales and suddenly
- 27:50it's awesome to see those people compete for their own flags and
- 27:58that was cool to see. That was cool to see what.
- 28:03Yeah. Like look the Commonwealth Games
- 28:08ended up being like the greatest junior varsity track meet in the
- 28:12world, right? Because it that when you first
- 28:15got there, there was a whole lot of talk about the people who are
- 28:19in the Commonwealth who weren't competing at the meat, right?
- 28:24Shelly, Anna, Sharika, didn't compete, but, but Elaine did,
- 28:32and, you know, Chopra didn't compete for India.
- 28:37But Anderson Peters did. It was a lot of those
- 28:40conversations. Let me just tell you something.
- 28:43Nobody at the meat who was competing tared.
- 28:47I mean sub 11 sub 20 to 49 seconds, I mean Anderson Peters
- 28:54went. There's an overwhelming favorite
- 28:56in the javelin and the guy who won who Pakistani Pakistani he's
- 29:02Pakistani his PB was 86 M you 386 M.
- 29:06On the first row, came back on his third thrown through 88 M
- 29:10Anderson past them in with 1888 60 and 30 had the meet one and
- 29:14then Pakistani through 90 meters in width.
- 29:16And what yes right. A beat the world champion and it
- 29:21was just like and it's not like you do poorly managed through 88
- 29:25M twice, right? Yeah, but that kind of thing
- 29:28happened time and time again at the meat and it was honestly was
- 29:32amazing to see the battles within the African countries and
- 29:37the relays the it was interesting to watch the English
- 29:44put together relays because they Don't this from time to time.
- 29:48There's a person who is who competes for Great Britain, but
- 29:51isn't English. So there was a piece missing.
- 29:54It was very interesting, it was very interesting and then, you
- 29:59know, like every time you go to you go to a meat, right?
- 30:02You kind of know who the big dogs were and this is my first
- 30:04time I've coached the Commonwealth.
- 30:06When I coach the hammer and it was different like it's the
- 30:08first time I was like really really engulfed in the meat and
- 30:12it was interesting to see that like if you take the United
- 30:15States out, All of a sudden, right?
- 30:17And you take and you take the Europeans for the most part out,
- 30:21all of a sudden, now, the big dogs at the meet our England
- 30:25Australia. Jamaica Africa, Nigeria Nigeria
- 30:33Canada, South Africa. Yeah.
- 30:36India is a huge player and I was like, man, this is awesome, you
- 30:41know, it was absolutely awesome. And look, the one thing I was
- 30:45going to say about Out the junior meet, I'm going to say
- 30:47also about the Commonwealth. Me, like, it used to be, you
- 30:49could tell what meet you were looking at in general by the
- 30:52marks. That's not the case anymore.
- 30:54Like, people were unsub 13 at every meet.
- 30:57Or, I mean, the men turtle race was won in 1308 by a Jamaican.
- 31:01Dude, I had never heard of until then and then, of course, I've
- 31:04now have heard of him, but it was a lot of that.
- 31:07And I what I thought was really cool is like Commonwealth Games,
- 31:12really and truly showed you how Global and how deep this The
- 31:16track and field is right, like you took.
- 31:19I mean, look, we talked about this all the time.
- 31:21Track and field is Euro centered and there was almost no European
- 31:25nations in the meat. Mhm.
- 31:28Mhm, but the meat was still really really, really good.
- 31:32So on that point I'd like to pause there on that point
- 31:35because Okay. So as a, as a uber fan of the
- 31:41sport watching from afar on TV and internet's and wherever I
- 31:45could find the meat right here. Yes here where my here where my
- 31:49immediate takeaways from just observing the Commonwealth
- 31:53Games. First of all, all the people
- 31:55that talk about our sport is dead and dying that's just not
- 31:58true. There's no evidence for that
- 32:01client, folks that you're like it's not remotely true.
- 32:04Second the UK, I'll put it that way.
- 32:08It is undeniable that the UK is our number one fan base period.
- 32:14Okay, I'm out. Yes, to that point, to that
- 32:17point, the stadium have been expanded to.
- 32:20Those of you who've been to Birmingham, but haven't been to
- 32:22the new Birmingham, the stadium with with non permanent seating.
- 32:25Have been expanding the 33,000 people.
- 32:27There were more than 30,000 people at every session morning
- 32:31and night of track and field. Right?
- 32:35And at one point in time the world went from the sublime to
- 32:38the ridiculous, the only thing left going on at the beach at
- 32:41the end of Session 1 in the morning was the decathlon.
- 32:45Pole vault, this is usually when they Usher people out of the
- 32:47stadium they were all allowed to stay, they all chose to stay.
- 32:52So there were 33 thousand people watching a pole vault
- 32:56competition. That was one at five meters 10,
- 33:01so so understand. It's not a comparable
- 33:06conversation. To talk about, you know, the fan
- 33:10base of the UK versus anything else.
- 33:13Like they're incredible, they absolutely love this and they
- 33:17will sit there forever to look at anything and that's dope and
- 33:21they'll pay whatever the price of the ticket is or whatever it
- 33:24is, right? And so that was a huge takeaway
- 33:26for me. Now, let me say this and I'll
- 33:28probably make some people mad As dope as the Commonwealth Games
- 33:33are. I'd much rather see it go away
- 33:38because the colonizer games aren't actually politically
- 33:41correct in any sense. Okay, percent the not at all.
- 33:46I'd much rather see an off year event, you know, where it's
- 33:53real. Where it's, what's the word I'm
- 33:56looking for cotton? Like, can we get a continental?
- 33:58Can we get a continental games? She came out, you know it would
- 34:02be absolutely the world the world.
- 34:04All right. Can we get can Get Africa versus
- 34:06Europe versus am. Are you know what I mean?
- 34:08Like in since we fix everything else in the culture that is that
- 34:12is not PC. Commonwealth Games is not PC and
- 34:16it's opens. It is, we can have it in London.
- 34:18Just I'd much rather see something like that but it was a
- 34:23phenomenal event and the 4x4 conclusion was epic.
- 34:28I don't care what the time was. The Graces were great.
- 34:31Yeah, they were. Yeah.
- 34:32All right. Raises were phenomenal.
- 34:34So, So so I will chime in and I have a very unique perspective,
- 34:39having competed at to Commonwealth Games one, when I
- 34:43was 16 years old, 1990 and New Zealand, Auckland.
- 34:49And then the second one was in 2002 where I want a bronze
- 34:53medal, First Commonwealth, bronze medal for the Cayman
- 34:56Islands and here's here's how I would compare it, and It's like
- 35:04comparing SEC Conference me to NCAA mean.
- 35:11Okay, when I can rock with it, if the SEC meet let's put it
- 35:17this way and solutions can can confirm this.
- 35:20If the SEC me was held in the right place.
- 35:26Not a revolving or whatever. If the SEC meat was held in the
- 35:31right place, where SEC teams could readily get to.
- 35:37And, and there was a much million was put in Atlanta,
- 35:42right? Look, it would be insane.
- 35:46It would be absolutely insane. I-i'm, I'm willing to bet good
- 35:50money that that would happen. Now what the Commonwealth Games
- 35:55is and you know it's it is an opportunity.
- 36:04For all of these colonized countries to show big, bad
- 36:09mother, Britain, mother England that they are on that level, and
- 36:14it's not said, it's not something that is talked about
- 36:17or whatever, but you can best believe.
- 36:20And if anybody paid attention to those relay events and those
- 36:24Sprint events, or whatever, we saw some performances from some
- 36:28people right inspired that doesn't even begin.
- 36:34To, to describe the relays. Oh my gosh.
- 36:37Yeah, right. I mean, I'll say this in
- 36:41English, the English feel the pressure.
- 36:43Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 36:44You can watch you on TV. You might ask the question.
- 37:08Where is that been, right? But you can best believe in that
- 37:12moment put in Canada on her back.
- 37:15Oh she she had no choice in her mind.
- 37:18She had no choice, right? And as you know to basically put
- 37:25it in a nutshell, you kind of have to be there.
- 37:28You have to be there to kind of understand what that that
- 37:32atmosphere is like. It's kind of sealed off because
- 37:36the rest of the world is looking at it from the standpoint of
- 37:40well. So England really, really
- 37:43colonized all of these countries like it's mind-boggling, right?
- 37:49This really happens there. This small English.
- 37:53They colonized all of two continents, folks, if they
- 37:57colonize Australia and Africa, it's absolutely crazy.
- 38:02You know, so so all that be Being said, there's definitely
- 38:07an us against them mentality. Meaning everybody outside of
- 38:12England against England, another dimension, you know, where
- 38:24you're going to go out there and you're going to show you going
- 38:26to show yourself for sure. That's funny.
- 38:31Now we just need to figure out how to get it broadcast you over
- 38:33here because that was the hardest thing for me.
- 38:36But to that point why would they broadcast it right?
- 38:39Yeah. Netball is an amazing game.
- 38:58It would never work in the United States because of
- 39:00basketball, but I will tell you this if I was at a mid-major
- 39:03school I would probably looking at some netball players because
- 39:06they have some skills that definitely translate including
- 39:09the ability to shoot jump shots without a back door without it
- 39:12back armor that ball named Bo netball and handle those Sports
- 39:15dope Sports chew and this is probably one of the dopest
- 39:18takeaways The Commonwealth Games is competed as a.
- 39:28I mean, I guess the best way, I can explain it.
- 39:29A Paralympics and Olympics simultaneously.
- 39:31Hmm. So I went.
- 39:34So I went to the practice track and the first three lanes were
- 39:37blocked off for wheelchair running, and it was cones.
- 39:41And then so, you know, you know, you got your distance Runners.
- 39:43You got two sprinters, you're hurting, everybody shared the
- 39:46same track? Yeah, it was a while.
- 39:49Wild Man. Incredibly awesome circus to
- 39:52watch and be a part of. And I got, you know, I got to
- 39:56watch, I watched I watched both a young man and a young lady
- 40:00break World Records in The discus with one leg.
- 40:05Amazing. And I mean they threw for like,
- 40:09like the guys who almost 50 meters but this one.
- 40:14Yeah, it was it was wild. We talk to this dude is so his
- 40:19name is In Birmingham, like we're not
- 40:38talking about London, right? Even the opening ceremonies,
- 40:48those are fun, there are Lively. There was there's a vibe to
- 40:51them. So like it's all exciting.
- 40:55Maybe we redirect the essence of them.
- 41:00But I mean, you can see, you know, with us and I say Select
- 41:05Robbie's. It's a lot with a specific group
- 41:07of people things can be manifested, right?
- 41:10We can make put this intention behind it, and celebrate have
- 41:13fun do great things because great things came out of
- 41:17Commonwealth and put it at a high level.
- 41:19So, and then lastly, like, we're getting back to the whole, metal
- 41:24table, right? So listen to these, so Australia
- 41:27had 67 gold 57 silver 54 bronze, right?
- 41:34Right? England had 57 gold 66 Silver,
- 41:4053 bronze right. So again, back to the whole gold
- 41:45is everything. If I mean, if england gets two
- 41:49more Metals in, you know, they get the same amount of metals
- 41:53that Australia did but Australia wins by virtue of having the
- 41:57most goals. Yeah.
- 42:02Oh yeah. That's nice too.
- 42:05You know, in honor of we're so what Sulu what Solutions have
- 42:10been doing for work. So I last week give or take just
- 42:15a little circuit called The Diamond League you know?
- 42:17Nothing big whatever. Also we're going to talk about
- 42:20the port's our stupid boys? Okay, now what are you doing?
- 42:30But you know, he's been I'm busy with a specific few athletes
- 42:37with the diamond V Meats and you know, there's more to come
- 42:40obviously, but you know, what is that been looking?
- 42:43Like, for you specifically since you're there.
- 42:44So we're just sort of Lucius, I can't pay that play.
- 42:59Okay, well I wasn't in Poland but I was in Budapest.
- 43:04So I talked to people that were in Poland and no talking to the
- 43:08guys are in the hundred know the big class would Bracy and from
- 43:12mail and those guys and Brunel you know Prevail pulls it out
- 43:17like it is And started it all Shelly, and is clearly not from
- 43:22this planet. Nope, just called.
- 43:26By the way, Shelley. Yeah, but that's the
- 43:53competition's. I mean, like, you know, I
- 43:55honestly don't remember everything that happened in
- 43:57Poland. I just really it was like, Mike.
- 43:59Well, first of all, but name, tell me about Poland is Michael,
- 44:01Norman is growing into, who we thought he was, always going to
- 44:04be your yeah and very, very happy for him and to watch him
- 44:10do that in Poland. And then, you know, I'll go on
- 44:15to Budapest like Shelley and again, proved not to be him.
- 44:20Sharika Jackson, jobs, 22 flat and folks.
- 44:26If Sydney, McLaughlin ever comes to me within 500 miles of you
- 44:33getting your car back of his children and grandchildren, back
- 44:37up their friends, go to the, yes, it is.
- 44:42The most incredible thing. You're going to say, it's the
- 44:46best show, y'all the best show. Eating the right way and she
- 44:57when she shows up, she puts on a show that you will never forget.
- 45:02Mmm. No watching her.
- 45:04Just mean, this is just to tell you what her dominance is like
- 45:07the two girls that were chasing her and Budapest ran 54 seconds.
- 45:12They take her out of the race and they both like 53 tonight
- 45:15here in Monica, right? It's just like a full second
- 45:19faster because we're so pleased. Do something.
- 45:27I mean it's like nothing you've ever seen it just simply simply
- 45:29the old phrase of poetry in motion that is City McLaughlin.
- 45:33She got what the sixth fastest times now, ever run.
- 45:36Yes, something like that. You know, and then and then you
- 45:40go to there was a Jasmine, Camacho Quinn, siding.
- 45:43Mmm, she was clearly having some issues with her start.
- 45:47She figured or start out. It wasn't what she wanted to be,
- 45:50but it was better and Budapest. She was 1227 with on the only
- 45:53winning the races in the me. A 2.4, right?
- 45:58Yeah. The only one, the other one.
- 46:02The the you talk about the young, where is consistently?
- 46:09And I don't mean this in any kind of disrespectful way?
- 46:11It's consistently the best of the second level.
- 46:16Yes, competitions every year. The next one is yeah absolutely.
- 46:19It's always good and I think I think a lot of that has to do
- 46:22with where it always fits in in the schedule.
- 46:25It's like the perfect place to go in between or on your way to
- 46:29Monica right and like every year it's great and so this was our
- 46:34grub used to be. There you go.
- 46:37Like for me the This season, the diamond League season.
- 46:43This year is so uniquely interesting to me.
- 46:46Because it came it's all coming after the Super Bowl crying.
- 46:51Yes. And when you if you have any
- 46:53appreciation for what that really, really means, mentally
- 46:57for these athletes like we had the Super Bowl week round the
- 47:02world champions, We got the gold silver bronze has that's all
- 47:05done. Now what is this thing worth to
- 47:08you? What are you going to go out
- 47:10there and do? What's your motivation?
- 47:11Why is it happening? And oh yeah by the way European
- 47:14championships are on the way Commonwealth just finished,
- 47:18right? So it's like everybody has
- 47:20different intrinsic motivation to do or not do this thing and
- 47:24when you see Shelly going out there doing what she do, when
- 47:27you see, Noah went out there and dismantled the 200-meter field
- 47:31tonight at in Monaco, right? It's like yeah, it's still
- 47:35really entertaining. People really still care about
- 47:37it and they're getting out there and doing what they do.
- 47:40And then you have, then you have Sid like sins in the stands and
- 47:44Monica with her husband. Like y'all got it, you're gonna
- 47:48be like y'all got this thing and so to Lucius Point like wherever
- 47:53you are in the world, if you have an opportunity to go, watch
- 47:56these people compete, you better get out there and do it because
- 47:59you may never get to see it again.
- 48:01Like, who knows what? Sydney's going to choose to do
- 48:03moving forward. She made, she doesn't need to
- 48:05run this event. Anymore.
- 48:08On a be on a b-minus day for her.
- 48:10She's three seconds better than the rest of the world.
- 48:13So, you know, like get out there and watch it because there's
- 48:17some incredible stuff going on right now.
- 48:19And I saw a comment today in reference to Shelly Shelley's
- 48:25run 10-6 what? Four times this year this year,
- 48:29five high five distinct and and some people are like how is this
- 48:34possible? You know talking about her
- 48:36peeking and all this other stuff.
- 48:37I have a question. Like why are y'all assuming she
- 48:39peeked? What why are you assuming that
- 48:43when she opened her season with a 10-6 at altitude Canyon for
- 48:47sure but when she did that why are you assuming the her in her
- 48:50Camp then be like oh you know what?
- 48:51World Championships is in the bag.
- 48:53Why don't you just go get this record in September?
- 48:56Yep, like don't assume that she's picked herself out because
- 49:00there's no evidence for that. Just saying, do you really mean,
- 49:05it goes back to something. We talked about last week, you
- 49:08know, people talk about speaking and, you know, look one of the
- 49:11most overused terms and track and field as burn out bright.
- 49:17And like I said, last week when the governor was trying to give
- 49:21people a pass because they didn't have enough time to get
- 49:25ready for worlds and Shelly and figured it out, it was me right?
- 49:30Well, that was definitely. Mayor, the governor and the
- 49:33mayor were giving out free passes last week.
- 49:37We weren't having it back in the day, like, Chelios another one.
- 49:42If she was with within 500 miles pack up everybody, mmm.
- 49:46Take three or four cars and go see her.
- 49:49Yeah. Because it is speaking of that
- 49:51tonight here in Monaco. Whoo, no.
- 49:53I mean, when when you start, I mean and that may have been the
- 49:56deepest hundred ever over were third.
- 49:58Place is 1072. 1071 said. Place was 1096.
- 50:05Yes. Yeah, listen, we threw this out
- 50:09there before. Imma, imma keep saying it
- 50:11because you really got to be a fan of the sport to the train.
- 50:15That is tyloo /. John Smith.
- 50:19Yeah, she's coming. Yeah, I said that earlier today
- 50:23at lunch. I was like, listen gigantic
- 50:32boulders Sighs problem next year.
- 50:35Yeah. Is a bigger problem for people.
- 50:41She went to 72 and he wouldn't hear.
- 50:44Wow. Right, right.
- 50:46Wow. As you know, y'all know what
- 50:47happened, when that do so, so, right.
- 50:50Yep. Yeah, so yeah, it was a, it was
- 50:53a marquis. Then deciding.
- 50:56You might have been in my brain. I was like, if anything else,
- 51:08Day for the Gators and Gator loans, no Marquis.
- 51:15And I had the pleasure of working with Marquis, you know,
- 51:17I'm video and stuff and send it to the day.
- 51:19Can you know, have a conversations and he jumps 831
- 51:23they and 8:30 today, unless you're always best series, he's
- 51:26had it forever. No.
- 51:28You're right. That's you.
- 51:29That's you. Nick doesn't have to do that
- 51:31because he wasn't here. We fired him right after the
- 51:55one, you alluded to it two weeks ago, sir.
- 51:57Lucius. Like listen Grant Holloway is a
- 52:00National Treasure and I need all of you to stop doing the other
- 52:03things that you're doing and stop putting these ridiculous
- 52:06like all the Well, he has a run 12:5 type thoughts in your head.
- 52:11Rex Louis races years. 1312. Mmm, that's true.
- 52:16Right? Like and Amanda's friend under
- 52:1813 seconds. Like hello, pay attention, the
- 52:21dude is great, but this is the one y'all this one talk about
- 52:26hiding in plain sight. Trey Cunningham has run ten
- 52:29races between 1300 and 1311. I do drugs 13:02 Dives this year
- 52:38and it hasn't been under 13. So because there's a run on 13
- 52:41Right, it didn't like people acting like he's not good.
- 52:44I'm like, guys, this isn't even his first year out of school,
- 52:49right? It's right.
- 52:49And we just say bad birthday. No, no birthday.
- 52:53No, no boy, right? I really want to pause on the,
- 52:57on the, on the 110 hurdles for a second because it's just too
- 53:01easy to be Petty. Here.
- 53:02Look First of all trade Cunningham isn't even a rookie,
- 53:08okay, he was in college this year, his rookie season will be
- 53:11next year. All right, so Trey Cunningham
- 53:15has had an incredible year and for him to still be out there
- 53:19competing and run the way he ran today is incredible.
- 53:23What, what was what was the narrative coming out of Worlds?
- 53:29There's a whole bunch of people out there in the twitterverse in
- 53:32the social media space. They're trying to put an
- 53:35asterisk behind grants World Championship because XYZ wasn't
- 53:40there. Well, short of Devon Allen who
- 53:43is now playing football? Everybody was on the line at
- 53:46night and it was still Grant followed by Trey, right?
- 53:51So followed by a you want to see heart followed by parchment
- 53:56parchment, right? So how many more times you want
- 53:58to see this? Like I'm so over that narrative.
- 54:01I don't want to hear it just because he didn't run the race.
- 54:04Is that you think he's capable of?
- 54:06And maybe lucious isn't particularly happy with the
- 54:09final time, who knows? But he wins.
- 54:11So, you win. I want to speak to this and I'm
- 54:13gonna say this and I'm going to leave it alone.
- 54:16Okay. For all you people who think,
- 54:20you know, who don't know, just shut your damn mouth.
- 54:25Okay, I'm tired of it cuz I cuz I'm gonna see, excuse my
- 54:27language Michael and everybody else.
- 54:28I could give a shit, what your thing, okay?
- 54:31The man is a world champion is Olympic silver medalist.
- 54:34Collegiate record holder, he's done everything that I've asked
- 54:36him to do, okay? And someday folks sooner than
- 54:40you think he's going to do the things that y'all think he's
- 54:43capable of, but it's just not time yet, okay?
- 54:47But you have to stop putting what you think should be done
- 54:52because 99.9% of y'all either have not coached a hurdler or if
- 54:57you have your Coachman ran faster than 14 seconds.
- 54:59So get out my space. I'm good.
- 55:04I wasn't even trying to poke the bear.
- 55:06I just wanted to shine light on on because we got everybody in
- 55:16the everybody in the social media space has their thoughts
- 55:20and ideas on what Grant should be doing. 100%.
- 55:24Okay, so when Alan Johnson complements, what we're doing,
- 55:30excuse me and my accomplishments work, we're doing when David
- 55:33Will complement. What we're doing whenever he's
- 55:35married complements, what we're doing, I'm good.
- 55:40Now, those are for the best to ever.
- 55:41Freakin do it and they all think that we're on the right path.
- 55:46Some good. So if do is look, when the world
- 55:50record holder tells me when he figures it out, he's going to
- 55:53take the world record. Some place we may never see it
- 55:55again, okay? Just gotta let him keep continue
- 55:58to figure it out. No, dude wins period.
- 56:03Exactly. So like so you know, I was able
- 56:07to, you know, work with dendi runs jumps, you know, 831 Grant
- 56:12runs. 1299 area runs 1984. I've had a heck of a year
- 56:17tonight. We had a great meal together,
- 56:31you know, we had a great week, we had a great career tonight,
- 56:37we did. And you know I'm very I'm going
- 56:39to say I'm very proud of grant, you know, he was a little, it
- 56:42was a little off two nights ago, you know, Grant 13:12.
- 56:46And went back to the kind of that that demon is that he's
- 56:49dealt with for a long time. You know, we had asked we sat
- 56:52down and had a very serious conversation and a little little
- 56:55film study and he fix those things tonight, you know, and
- 56:59that's what route. Ian's.
- 57:00Do you know, you run, 1312. You don't goes where you're
- 57:03supposed to and then you come back and tell his 1299 and I
- 57:09still want to say folks, the man ran 13:12 and it was an
- 57:13Abomination, 13:12, the bad race, the awful race, the worst
- 57:20race of the Season, like the coach, we got to get in the lab
- 57:23and fix this. I ran 1312.
- 57:28Well, and I think that goes to talk about all the names that
- 57:31have been brought up the recently, the absence the
- 57:34misfires, the the horrible races, or horrible jobs with a
- 57:37horrible throws, whatever it is. That's all indicative of the
- 57:41whole entire season. So why is it that everyone is
- 57:44jumping on their backs and is like, they're horrible.
- 57:47They need a new coach, they're doing the wrong thing.
- 57:49No, that's part of the trial and error of Athletics, and not act
- 57:55like that. Port that was beautifully said
- 57:59and as in this is my angst with the Twitter twits with the
- 58:03Instagram idiots with the Facebook fools, okay?
- 58:15I had this discussion. I'm going to call his name out,
- 58:18so because and I had it, I called him on the phone.
- 58:22So the Mark Johnson is bad-mouthing.
- 58:24She carried Rick and Rich. Richardson's running technique.
- 58:27The job went though. She were a little too intense
- 58:297:00, so I'll call him on the phone.
- 58:32Whats the fastest role you ever coach would probably suggest at
- 58:3611:48, you do for him, is from 10-7 something fault.
- 58:42Okay, so let's learn to appreciate this.
- 58:45Is this is about great. No, this ain't about going, it's
- 58:47about a lot of people, okay? Because, because before long is
- 58:52going to be Melissa Jefferson or somebody else with somebody else
- 58:59right needs to move. Quit moving people from the
- 59:03place. Listen let's talk.
- 59:05Let's just take her and not end well I think.
- 59:07But what her coach did this year was phenomenal?
- 59:09That child was 10 flat in high school.
- 59:12Well at 12:00 Flight School. 1082 legal in the first thing
- 59:26people says, well, where's, why is she moving right?
- 59:31Am I pray, right? Because those people that I just
- 59:34talked about wanting to tell people where to go and how to be
- 59:39coach and I never Coast anybody. The people that want to tell me
- 59:43how to fix, what's wrong with Grant, you've never a coast
- 59:47anybody that's done the things that Grant has done.
- 59:50So how can you help me fix him? Right?
- 59:54And so, in the people on the panel know that, we don't see
- 59:58that in practice doing folks because you also the video,
- 1:00:01nope, right. So it's going to be okay, but
- 1:00:04y'all we're trying to fix other people's less than take care of
- 1:00:06your own kids, okay? Like always tell the people that
- 1:00:09want to be critical of what's going on, get in the arena, come
- 1:00:14fight with us because I'm going to be with this is Budapest next
- 1:00:17year, I'm there. Okay.
- 1:00:19So you want to be critical company in Budapest with me and
- 1:00:21then I might allow you to talk a little The track.
- 1:00:24But I'm not going to allow you to sit behind you iPad or your
- 1:00:28phone or your computer and talk, trash about people who are in
- 1:00:30the really getting it done, right?
- 1:00:35So I can't miss this, we shouldn't miss this from from
- 1:00:38Monaco to two, incredible performances.
- 1:00:42Tori Franklin. Jumped a huge PR in a losing
- 1:00:46effort today in the women's triple jump.
- 1:00:48Yes. I just want to stop.
- 1:00:53What's the best girls named Chris?
- 1:00:55I'm sorry. You tomorrow Rojas.
- 1:00:59She's a freaking cheat code. Yeah.
- 1:01:02Yeah. The last three nonsense, she
- 1:01:16knows she's not going to beat her.
- 1:01:18What does she go? But I was in the stadium and
- 1:01:21watch this, she went forward and she came out of the pit, she
- 1:01:25knew right away. It was Big job.
- 1:01:27She knew she was she knew it was a big job that was phenomenal.
- 1:01:31It was incredible. This is incredible.
- 1:01:33I mean from if you're a fan of the triple jump you know
- 1:01:36especially in America fan of the triple jump, I mean we don't
- 1:01:40have a lot of success in this event Tory's carrying the flag
- 1:01:43right now. She's doing a great job.
- 1:01:44Like you really should pay attention to her and maybe learn
- 1:01:48a little something because she doesn't jump, like American
- 1:01:51women typically jump. There is no because you're some
- 1:01:54because she was biting on and okay, American coach anymore.
- 1:01:58Exactly. Absolute mess indoors and now
- 1:02:03she's that chick out. That's right.
- 1:02:05And then the other one, the other one for me is who I'm a
- 1:02:13huge fan of faith. Can just barely missed the world
- 1:02:17record in 15 and let's get it. She was out there by herself the
- 1:02:21last lap and a half like yeah, an incredible incredible.
- 1:02:25It's incredible. And I'm going to say this is
- 1:02:29extremely expensive to come here, but if you ever get a
- 1:02:32chance to come to a track meet here, please come?
- 1:02:35Yeah. Because it did the electricity
- 1:02:37in this place in and it's not like, I mean, it's a big crowd.
- 1:02:40Is there not fallen into that are falling all over each other,
- 1:02:43but some very large crowd for this Stadium, but they cheer for
- 1:02:47everything and they cheer loud for everything, you know.
- 1:02:52My mama goes, it's one of the most Unique stadiums on the
- 1:02:58planet. I mean, is some from the fourth
- 1:03:01floor model roof. Well, it's literally it's on the
- 1:03:05roof of the monocle, SportsCenter.
- 1:03:09Like there's a, there's a, there's a pool.
- 1:03:11There's is places to work out there like three levels
- 1:03:15underneath, you take an elevator up to the track, it's unreal.
- 1:03:22Yeah, yeah, I mean that that's, that is one of those to accept.
- 1:03:26Here's that, here's something that we learn today, right?
- 1:03:29So, The track is in Monaco. The Marriott that everybody
- 1:03:37stays in right across the street.
- 1:03:39It's in France. Yeah friend nice.
- 1:03:43So you literally walk across the street and in a different
- 1:03:48country we Monaco with literally a hillside.
- 1:03:51Like the? Yes, I'm sure you've literally
- 1:03:53Hillside DC in. It's an incredibly beautiful
- 1:03:57Hillside. I want to tell you that.
- 1:04:00It's all the way to distinguish. It is when you're in nice, the
- 1:04:04sidewalks. Gray Monaco they read, there you
- 1:04:08go buddy. He walked down this sidewalk.
- 1:04:11This gray, you walk around this little thing and the other side
- 1:04:15makes the other side this week. They're red.
- 1:04:17And for the second row three, given a true understanding.
- 1:04:21I we had a camp leading up to the 1999 World Championships and
- 1:04:30know this was this was 2005 and 99.
- 1:04:35T5 and after the Monaco meet was over.
- 1:04:40So, the free breakfast went away.
- 1:04:42The free hotels, went away, all of that one away.
- 1:04:46Then it was at that point. We as a group, got an idea of
- 1:04:50just how expensive that place is and the biggest indication.
- 1:04:56I remember going to McDonald's And it was 20 bucks, 20 bucks to
- 1:05:05get a burger and some fries and a milkshake and I'm just going,
- 1:05:09okay? After the faster the first day I
- 1:05:12kid you not. After the first day we all piled
- 1:05:16into a cab and drove to nice and that's where we would eat,
- 1:05:22that's what we had to do, you know, we're on an athlete's
- 1:05:26budget, we're not on you know, Big Time budget.
- 1:05:29But Monaco is, you know, it's one of those like fairytale La
- 1:05:34lands that, you know, you have to just go just to appreciate
- 1:05:38it. You can go and enjoy the scenery
- 1:05:42and then move on with your life because living, they're not,
- 1:05:47it's not, it's not even possible.
- 1:05:50It's not even just the money. You literally have to get a
- 1:05:54written Invitational from the from the Prince of Monaco.
- 1:05:58Yes. To live there.
- 1:06:00The Lily there. Yes yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:03Got it. And there and there are rich
- 1:06:04people who have been denied. Oh yeah.
- 1:06:07Right. So character counts on stop
- 1:06:11there. Stop there.
- 1:06:17All right, well, let's switch lanes.
- 1:06:21And he doesn't know that he would shoot people before we go
- 1:06:23further. Yeah, I have to give props to
- 1:06:26Chris's favorite shot putter. Joe Kovacs.
- 1:06:29Hey monster. Hey, because he, because he
- 1:06:33steps in the ring, on his sixth row, throws 2180 something to
- 1:06:37win the meet in Poland and Two nights later.
- 1:06:40He just says know what I fooled around with y'all here. 2289 and
- 1:06:43like the second row. Yeah my yeah yeah y'all want to
- 1:06:48chase something? Chase that ya gotta give Big Joe
- 1:06:51props. Gotta Give Big Joe problems.
- 1:06:55I mean, he has hit radio come back to his volunteer position.
- 1:06:57So you might as well do it. And I understand that they may
- 1:07:03not. Maybe they are expecting very
- 1:07:06large twins. So, so, so there's a reason for
- 1:07:11you, young coaches to stick around.
- 1:07:12And maybe you'll get to coach one of them, but I doubt ask
- 1:07:15these having that stuff. Good luck with that is how they
- 1:07:21met. Oh, that's so funny.
- 1:07:23Well, And welcome, are you are you're out for?
- 1:07:27Would you rather this evening this afternoon, evening?
- 1:07:29Whatever it is. Oh, geez.
- 1:07:31Alright, this is a welcome surprise, right?
- 1:07:35So, are you ready, is Thursday is Thursday here already
- 1:07:42seatbelts on? Would you rather be the best at
- 1:07:46one thing or really good at several things?
- 1:07:51You're going to ask a decathlete, right?
- 1:07:53Yeah, weird. Because you know what?
- 1:07:58Because I've lived the life of being really good at a lot of
- 1:08:01things. I would like to try to be the
- 1:08:03best at one thing. Hmm.
- 1:08:05Got it right? It is I thought if I could if I
- 1:08:08could He'd rather eat a McDonald's
- 1:08:22Quarter Pounder, or a Popeye's chicken sandwich.
- 1:08:27A Popeyes chicken sandwich every day of the of the week over a
- 1:08:34quarter pounder. Would you rather run a mile
- 1:08:37every day for 26 days or run a marathon?
- 1:08:43You do know who you're talking to, right?
- 1:08:47That's why I thought it was funny.
- 1:08:49Oh, that's hilarious. And what that is.
- 1:08:52But you said every day for six days, Okay, 100%.
- 1:08:58I'm going to choose the run. A mile every day for 26 days.
- 1:09:01Yeah. But let me just tell you
- 1:09:02something. If I try to run a marathon like
- 1:09:06I cannot walk, I'm probably gonna die.
- 1:09:12Would you rather always be cold or always?
- 1:09:14Be hot. Always be hot.
- 1:09:17Would you rather be half of your height or double your weight?
- 1:09:21Oh well, that's a simple one. That's a simple one.
- 1:09:26I rather be fat too short. Okay.
- 1:09:29Okay he and I said this is tailored for him because he's
- 1:09:32such a size of elitist. For sure.
- 1:09:35Am I would rather be fat and short.
- 1:09:38Would you rather put your hand in a box of unknowns or wear a
- 1:09:42hat full of red ants? And in a box full of unknowns,
- 1:09:48got it. Because I know, I know where the
- 1:09:49right answer going. I stepped in a red ant Hive once
- 1:09:52and I'm not sure my right leg has recovered from that.
- 1:09:57Would you rather know what race you're going to win or what
- 1:10:00race? You will lose?
- 1:10:02Oh Jesus. I guess.
- 1:10:04I'd rather know which race I was going to lose.
- 1:10:08Got it gentleman. The floor is yours.
- 1:10:12Could you imagine the confidence in that do if you knew which
- 1:10:14race you were going to lose? That means you could just talk
- 1:10:16all kinds of smack and all the other races or the other races
- 1:10:20what if it was the Olympic race, you know what is okay, you know
- 1:10:24what? That's okay.
- 1:10:27If I knew I was going to win five World Championships like
- 1:10:29Shelley and I'd be all right with it.
- 1:10:31And I'm glad you said that because you know there's always
- 1:10:34this distinction of people like, you know, you lost at the
- 1:10:39Olympic Games. You were in The limpid Game's
- 1:10:42final. Hmm.
- 1:10:44You were in the world championship final.
- 1:10:45You don't want to eight of the best people in one of the eight
- 1:10:49best people in the world. Let's say, I'll take my oath
- 1:10:52now. You know, that's how we do.
- 1:10:53We're going to come back and fight again but I was there.
- 1:10:57Yeah. Anyway, so would you rather?
- 1:11:07Would you rather have one of your children playing the in in
- 1:11:09the in the NBA or the NFL? I'd rather one of my children
- 1:11:17play in the NBA a because I love basketball.
- 1:11:21I love football too, but I love basketball.
- 1:11:23But be they're going to be able to play with my grandkids when
- 1:11:27they get old. Okay, and their money is
- 1:11:33guaranteed and they make more money, it's true.
- 1:11:37I mean, average dudes who are absolute hot trash, the NBA make
- 1:11:4028 million a year. All right, true story.
- 1:11:49All right, this is a Eva or the giraffes.
- 1:11:54Take the Jurassic series of movies, or Mission, Impossible,
- 1:11:58series, and movies. Jurassic really the whole
- 1:12:03series? Yes.
- 1:12:05The directed the Jurassic Park movies as a whole series.
- 1:12:09Look first, first two or first. Three.
- 1:12:12And the a my series is better. Yeah, it falls off fast.
- 1:12:18If moles off fast. But that's a good question.
- 1:12:22I like that's a really good comparison.
- 1:12:26All right. So I'm gonna throw a simple and
- 1:12:28easy one inspired by the the question that the governor just
- 1:12:32threw out, have you had you been very busy lately, have you had a
- 1:12:36chance to see top gun Maverick 100%, it's amazing.
- 1:12:43If you haven't seen it, anyone who hasn't seen it?
- 1:12:46You're playing games. Like go see that film to you are
- 1:12:50too. Oh my gosh.
- 1:13:01In the theater. You have to okay?
- 1:13:04It's that happen. Well we'll have to find a cross
- 1:13:07country. Meet governor.
- 1:13:10Or will you because core you guys come to you guys come to
- 1:13:14Tom Jones next year. They will have it on the
- 1:13:16theater, the house. There you go.
- 1:13:19With all due respect to that Theater, which is amazing.
- 1:13:25Yes, you have to see that movie in a real theater experience.
- 1:13:32It's just like the first one and it is diff.
- 1:13:34Once the first one, was the first one came out, right?
- 1:13:37Every single store that was trying to show off their They're
- 1:13:40surround sound like they were trying to sell.
- 1:13:42Surround sound speakers. They use that movie.
- 1:13:45Yeah, because it because it's, you got it.
- 1:13:47Like, that's how you gotta see it.
- 1:13:48It's the same kind of thing. I'll say this about the movie
- 1:13:54sequels are really tough to pull off and have them be even be
- 1:13:57comparable to the first right? If you're a God, follow lover
- 1:14:01like I am, right? If you're honest, Godfather one
- 1:14:04is always going to be the best movie but it's really only the
- 1:14:07best movie because his first Godfather 2 is actually a
- 1:14:09superior. Well, we're in the same.
- 1:14:12We're in the same general realm, both movies are spectacular in
- 1:14:17their own, right? And and and that the first Top
- 1:14:20Gun is going to be better because it's the first one.
- 1:14:22But because of the first one, this one is that good?
- 1:14:26That it's actually comparable and maybe better.
- 1:14:29Oh no, I'll take, it's way better to me.
- 1:14:32It's way, way way better. Well, I hadn't read.
- 1:14:35Movie camp hard to the reason it's way better is because of
- 1:14:39how How Deeply they connected the first one to this one.
- 1:14:44They did a phenomenal job, right?
- 1:14:46So it's easy to say that it's way, it's easy it's a cheap way
- 1:14:51to say it's way better is because obviously technology has
- 1:14:54changed in 30 years, right? And the cinematography is better
- 1:14:57and action sequences are better and they could do cool things
- 1:15:00with the Jets, Ian talking about all that the fact that they were
- 1:15:04if you never saw the first, the fact that you could go see the
- 1:15:07second one and totally understand everything.
- 1:15:10Important from the first one true story.
- 1:15:13This one is better. Like her story the emotional
- 1:15:16connection in part two was better than the first one.
- 1:15:19And I didn't think they could pull that off, but they did.
- 1:15:27Well, have to go do that then I'll make sure I see it.
- 1:15:29I promise in a theater. All right, wrapping up with
- 1:15:33heartbeat props. Getting back to that.
- 1:15:36That habit. Again, I'm going to go first and
- 1:15:39I'm going to say Say, I want to give heartbeat props out too.
- 1:15:45All the parents who are getting ready to say bye to their kids,
- 1:15:49for college, maybe for the first time or maybe for the last time,
- 1:15:52right? Well second there is no, that's
- 1:15:55a thing of the last time. You know, last time in regards
- 1:15:58to college, like this isn't never used last time.
- 1:16:16You've done a good job, I promise you and if you have it
- 1:16:19they're going to learn and they're going to be okay.
- 1:16:21So here's support confident prayers and hugs for all those
- 1:16:27parents who are getting ready to say bye to their children for
- 1:16:31their new adventures, Can I go next cuz I'm late for something?
- 1:16:36Yeah, I don't know if heartbeat props is the right term, but
- 1:16:42this is important and it's issue.
- 1:16:43I care about someone's gonna throw it out there, props to UK
- 1:16:48Athletics for, you know, the lifetime ban passed out to tell
- 1:16:54on Tony minutes, cello for, you know, for sexually inappropriate
- 1:16:58conduct. There are other people like this
- 1:17:01in our profession and we got to get rid of all.
- 1:17:05I don't care who they are. I don't care how big their names
- 1:17:07are. I don't care what they've
- 1:17:08accomplished. These people don't belong in our
- 1:17:11profession and so if you can credibly prove, the cases
- 1:17:15against them, we need to get them all out Pro and say, a high
- 1:17:20school and Beyond. There were other.
- 1:17:22There was other news that this week about people, working with
- 1:17:25high school, kids that got exposing her on their way to
- 1:17:29jail. This is a very serious issue and
- 1:17:32these people need to go and for UK Athletics to get this
- 1:17:37particular person who is very you know in high esteem in the
- 1:17:42sport. Get him out.
- 1:17:43Yeah I'm with all of that. Lets get them all out.
- 1:17:50Wow. Yeah.
- 1:17:51What's up? I was a lot.
- 1:17:52Yeah, I'm going to go next. If you don't mind to eat the,
- 1:17:58I'd like to take a moment and kind of do it to two-sided.
- 1:18:01Thing here one. I said this a few weeks back,
- 1:18:04and I'm going to say it again. Please pay attention to people
- 1:18:07around you. The mental health struggle is
- 1:18:11real. Don't take it for granted when
- 1:18:14someone is crying out for help. Please, listen to them, please
- 1:18:19Can't help them, help them, find somebody that can understand
- 1:18:23that people handle things differently.
- 1:18:25And if people are, you know, dealing with something that you
- 1:18:28don't think is a big deal, it may not be a big deal to you,
- 1:18:31but it's a huge deal to them. So please, please listen, also
- 1:18:37want to give RP props out to a guy that I just spent 17 years
- 1:18:41in the trenches, with me, was a big, big part of 29 national
- 1:18:46championships, many individual NCAA Champions, and SEC
- 1:18:50Champions and as he championship teams of my man, Steven Lim key
- 1:18:55Steve-O as I called him. He had triple bypass surgery
- 1:18:59last week and he's recovering nicely but I would be remiss if
- 1:19:04I Give him a shout out in. Well, big fella.
- 1:19:08You know, we do you love you and can't wait to get back on the on
- 1:19:11the lanes with you. Here's some nowhere in Bowling,
- 1:19:15starting soon. That's what I've been here about
- 1:19:17two weeks baby. So, you know, it doesn't want
- 1:19:24the kids back in town, in two weeks, but he's back in
- 1:19:30Gainesville, late, Thursday night, I will be bowling at some
- 1:19:34point in time. On Friday or Saturday and
- 1:19:35probably, yeah, already already. That's awesome.
- 1:19:44You know what look, I'm gonna be a homer and I'm going to give my
- 1:19:47Harpy props to somebody who I do know what show.
- 1:19:50They're probably going to laugh that I said this but I want to
- 1:19:53give my heart be props to Legend as we call him because We just
- 1:20:00do what's in front of us, folks. And at the end of the day, To do
- 1:20:06to championship-level decathlon's in, with a nine-day
- 1:20:11gap between them is cruel and unusual punishment and to win
- 1:20:18the only Commonwealth championship for his entire
- 1:20:21country in the process. It was outstanding and we don't
- 1:20:29actually stop and take about often enough.
- 1:20:32And during our careers I think the governor Admit to that as
- 1:20:35well. And every now and again, we do
- 1:20:38have to stop, like, take 30 seconds to say.
- 1:20:41Yeah. That was pretty good.
- 1:20:42Let me, let me give you one of these good job fella.
- 1:20:46Look, fifth at Worlds and Commonwealth gold.
- 1:20:50Commonwealth, gold and not. And a nine-day span is, is to be
- 1:20:53commended, and I would say job. Well done, young, man.
- 1:20:59Well, let me say this real quick.
- 1:21:02Why, you know, while we're on this, you know.
- 1:21:05We I have been beating this drum about proper planning and
- 1:21:09athletes getting things done. Well done Commonwealth Lamar and
- 1:21:14Big League. Chew.
- 1:21:16Absolutely. Thank you, sir.
- 1:21:19Who else I want to give heartbeat props to three island
- 1:21:28nations ganado Trinidad. Barbados.
- 1:21:35Okay. And each one of those islands
- 1:21:40this year, has had a major impact at the world championship
- 1:21:45level. Oh, and you know, you can't, you
- 1:21:51know, having been in that realm and having been in that
- 1:21:53situation, I don't think people really truly understand the
- 1:21:59limited resources that are available.
- 1:22:02And you know, whether you're training in the United States or
- 1:22:06what there's still the support system that has to be there.
- 1:22:12Right? It's one thing to have the
- 1:22:15support of a Federation of you know, that draws in millions of
- 1:22:20dollars and is able to fund you and to help you, you know, from
- 1:22:25you start your training cycle in October, all the way through to
- 1:22:29help you with your travel, to help you with your supplements,
- 1:22:32to help you, with all those basic things to help you with
- 1:22:35therapy, right? It's another thing to come from
- 1:22:40a small island where, you know, from a political standpoint,
- 1:22:46it's not necessarily the most sexy thing in the world, right?
- 1:22:49It's not necessarily the, you know, outside of soccer in the
- 1:22:57Caribbean. Track and field isn't really the
- 1:23:01thing except when you're talking about Jamaica, right?
- 1:23:04Jamaica is all about it. So, for those three, small
- 1:23:10island nations to do what they did, between the world
- 1:23:14championships, and the Commonwealth Games heartbeat
- 1:23:17props, to those athletes Harpy props to those coaches big
- 1:23:21league and Lamar included because that's not an easy feat.
- 1:23:27It's not an easiest thing to do, but I'm so excited for this
- 1:23:32generation of athletes that are coming and hopefully that helps
- 1:23:36the other small island nations, you know, get in gear.
- 1:23:40And we all know the talents there.
- 1:23:42It's just a matter of finding that right combination of
- 1:23:46coaching and support and we'll see other island nations do the
- 1:23:50same thing. Yay.
- 1:23:56I was a nice girl said. Well, with that said, we'll wrap
- 1:24:01up another fun episode of Athletics.
- 1:24:03Loc, good. Oh, just kidding.
- 1:24:07Lamar as one challenge to our LLC followers, I found out about
- 1:24:14a new country divers in the country is not new to me.
- 1:24:17Why was it Commonwealth Games my challenge to you is to find find
- 1:24:21a globe and find the country Isle of Man?
- 1:24:26Hmm. Oh my goodness.
- 1:24:29Okay, super tiny. Find it comment on it.
- 1:24:34And, no, that's okay. Find it in comments on it
- 1:24:37screenshot, I don't know. I don't even know if you can do
- 1:24:39with picture into it, but anyways, challenge challenge,
- 1:24:43served by Lamar. Let's see who answers that
- 1:24:45challenge. Everyone have a good weekend
- 1:24:49leading into move-ins leading into departures, whatever it is
- 1:24:52that you're doing and you're laying in your world in the next
- 1:24:55couple weeks. Next week.
- 1:24:57Specifically be confident move with pride do well, we'll see
- 1:25:03each other soon. Bye everyone.
- 1:25:09When the lights come on the boat, stick to running.
- 1:25:38Wouldn't be here, but we have to start mining.
- 1:25:41You gotta understand. Rapes, gotta catch Stars.
- 1:25:44Show you how to fight for, show us who you are, you lack
- 1:25:47experience? But still you want to talk and
- 1:25:49who is that? You talk to yourself.
- 1:25:51Got a small heads prevail when the backbone, strong, gotta keep
- 1:25:55it from an old boat last long faster felt instead of the
- 1:25:59session and if you don't check yourself and that's wrong, just
- 1:26:03trying to give you the real that you asked for.
- 1:26:05So why you keep cutting us off to a small?
- 1:26:08We put It in slow-mo. What you fast for the task
- 1:26:13force.
