- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we are talking about neglect.
- 0:33And what do I mean by neglect? Well, it can be anything really.
- 0:38It can be neglecting another human, neglecting relationships,
- 0:41neglecting your animals, neglecting your things that
- 0:44you're supposed to be paying attention to anywhere across the
- 0:46board. However, today I'm using it in
- 0:50the context of how much a silent killer it is because we don't
- 0:53necessarily think about these things.
- 0:55So if you neglect something in your life, whatever it may be,
- 1:00it is a silent killer. It takes away this, It's
- 1:06insidious. It just takes away from your
- 1:09knowledge base of what is really happening.
- 1:11First and foremost. When you're do, when you're
- 1:14neglecting something is very limited and you kind of forget
- 1:17about it. You kind of forget to see what's
- 1:19happening. But when you it, it starts off
- 1:22as a very simple thing. It's just like, oh, I've let it
- 1:24go. Whether it's your health,
- 1:26whether it's, you know, something that's major or not is
- 1:30irrelevant. It's just it starts off and it's
- 1:33small and it's tiny and it might just be one day, two days that
- 1:36you neglect something and before you know it, it has gotten so
- 1:40out of hand that it has grown and festered into something.
- 1:44So, you know, let's talk about it.
- 1:46This in the simple context of a little tiny scratch.
- 1:49You get a scratch on your hand. This happens to me here on the
- 1:52farm a lot. I get a scratch on my hand and I
- 1:55don't pay attention to it because I'm busy.
- 1:57I'm outside, I'm working with all my animals.
- 1:59I'm not paying attention to it and I don't clean it up.
- 2:02And the next thing you know, I have this scratch that's
- 2:05infected. And maybe it's just a couple
- 2:08days, maybe it's longer. Whatever it is, I neglected to
- 2:11take care of it when it happened.
- 2:13And before you know it, now it hurts.
- 2:14And I have to go. And I have to say to my husband,
- 2:17I have an infection in my finger.
- 2:18Can you help me with this? Because it's not feeling good.
- 2:22And he's like, it's because you neglected to take care of it the
- 2:25moment it happened. And I was like, Yep, that's
- 2:27probably very true. I did neglect to take care of it
- 2:29the moment it happened. And what it does, such a great
- 2:33representation is then I have to stop.
- 2:35And then it pulls all my attention over to it.
- 2:38It pulls it and it creates this issue.
- 2:40That's a bigger thing where it puts all my attention on it.
- 2:43Now I'm using the scratches, a small example, but what if this
- 2:45was your health? What if this was something that
- 2:47you were neglecting regularly and all of a sudden when
- 2:51something happens, you have a heart attack.
- 2:52It's like a wake up call. Boom, Now you have no choice.
- 2:55You have to pay attention to it. Or in many cases it's not
- 3:00something as dramatic as that, but it's something else.
- 3:02Like you don't change the oil in your car or your truck or your
- 3:05vehicle, which I am very guilty of.
- 3:07Unless the truck tells me it's time to go, I don't pay
- 3:10attention to it. And I know some of my listeners
- 3:13right now who are very into their vehicles are going to say,
- 3:16Oh my gosh, please do not tell me you do not regularly change
- 3:20the oil. That I don't regularly change
- 3:22the oil. It's that I wait till the car
- 3:24tells me I'm not. So on top of it, the way some
- 3:27people are and this can cause a problem because I neglect it.
- 3:32See Roosters yelling at me today about it.
- 3:35So the point of this is when you start to look at things you
- 3:39avoid neglect. So this came up because I am
- 3:43actually working on a list for maintenance for the house this
- 3:47year. And the farm things that have to
- 3:49be done, the fireplace has to be cleaned.
- 3:51You know, the chimneys need to be swept.
- 3:53Do we need to have power washing done?
- 3:56Do we need to have anything repaired?
- 3:58What are the seasonal things? And this came about because I
- 4:00saw a Martha Stewart list of like all the things that she
- 4:03takes care of. Now obviously she is Uber
- 4:06organized, and I'm not even close to that when it comes to
- 4:08this, but I love the idea of it. And then when I started thinking
- 4:11about neglect and how it shows up everywhere, it can show up in
- 4:15neglect in your relationships where you're just not showing
- 4:17somebody else that you care about them and love them enough.
- 4:20You're not doing the little things.
- 4:21And you know, Valentine's Day comes around and boom, before
- 4:24you know it, here we are having the conversation about like, oh,
- 4:28we need a company to tell us to pay attention to the people we
- 4:32love. And that just seems absurd to
- 4:33me. So neglect is something that
- 4:37happens very, very slowly. Typically, it happens slowly,
- 4:43starts off. It's just a simple thing.
- 4:44And before you know it, it's become a bigger thing.
- 4:47So I'm going to give you guys a challenge and I'm going to say
- 4:50where are you neglecting things that, you know you need to look
- 4:53at that you really want to be better at moving forward?
- 4:57And before we get through this first part of the year, it is
- 5:00important to say I'm going to correct this.
- 5:02I'm going to course correct my behavior immediately so this
- 5:05doesn't happen and I don't have this taking place.
- 5:09OK, my friends, go look at it, do some digging, figure it out.
- 5:12I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:16Bye.
