- 0:00Speaker 1: Great one.
- 0:09Speaker 2: The universal love and respect you got more?
- 0:11Speaker 1: Oh hey man, yeah, great good, what a performance. Thanks
- 0:20Speaker 1: and James Williams of the how are you doing, James?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Back the ball, fans everywhere congratulating on an amazing career. Well,
- 0:28Speaker 1: thank you, privilege and my honor to present to you.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:31Speaker 1: But Kevin, wait a second, Kevin Lockery and I used
- 0:34Speaker 1: to lead the league in technicals every year and you're
- 0:37Speaker 1: actually giving me a present representing the reps. No, thank
- 0:44Speaker 1: you very much. Just go back to the old timers
- 0:47Speaker 1: that used to be working a two man crew. Yes,
- 0:51Speaker 1: he was a heck of a lot better than you're
- 0:53Speaker 1: getting here right now. No, but thank you. Fellows. Really
- 0:59Speaker 1: just a lucky your career is that you hope? Stay
- 1:02Speaker 1: healthy about it. I've got to get John, thank you, James,
- 1:05Speaker 1: thank you? Yeah, how you doing? Thank you? Thank you
- 1:09Speaker 1: very much.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You had some good battles with the officials in your game.
- 1:14Speaker 2: There's so many people who worked on today's telecast, for
- 1:18Speaker 2: all of us, it's a labor of love and all
- 1:21Speaker 2: we wanted to do, see I can't look at you
- 1:24Speaker 2: right now is to adequately pay tribute to you.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Now.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Our producer Ian Gruka and the staff. They did an
- 1:30Speaker 2: amazing job because it meant so much to them to
- 1:33Speaker 2: be a part of your final telecast, and what we
- 1:37Speaker 2: did comes up woefully short compared to what you have
- 1:39Speaker 2: given us. And we've all felt we've had this pliberate
- 1:44Speaker 2: privilege and honor to work with you, and especially those
- 1:47Speaker 2: of us who've been able to sit next to you
- 1:49Speaker 2: like those play by play voices. Our only hope today
- 1:52Speaker 2: you'll be was to make you understand how much you
- 1:54Speaker 2: mean to us and how much we love you. And
- 1:58Speaker 2: I know it's difficult to try and put into words
- 2:01Speaker 2: what you're feeling right now, but for all the basketball
- 2:05Speaker 2: fans who learn from you and who loved you and
- 2:07Speaker 2: have watched you all these years, and just ask you,
- 2:13Speaker 2: what does it all mean to you.
- 2:18Speaker 1: That my father, best man I ever met, said that
- 2:25Speaker 1: thing when I was a grammar school kid playing sports.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Never give less than a hundred. And when you think
- 2:35Speaker 1: about that, it sounds easy. It's difficult. Times get tough,
- 2:41Speaker 1: but you want to as a coach, never come to
- 2:48Speaker 1: practice without being a plus factor for every one of
- 2:53Speaker 1: your players. You want to treat them with respect. And
- 2:57Speaker 1: then when you get into television, you're in a whole
- 3:00Speaker 1: new ball game. It's a whole different life, and you
- 3:04Speaker 1: work with wonderful people. And I always try to say
- 3:08Speaker 1: this isn't just a two man act, as you and
- 3:11Speaker 1: I both know. We got the guys in the truck,
- 3:14Speaker 1: the producers and directors, they're they're taking care of an
- 3:17Speaker 1: army of people and we'll get great television. Now. I
- 3:25Speaker 1: want to say thank you on be heare for my
- 3:27Speaker 1: family for the nine years of high school coaching three sports,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and then going to Women and Mary for a year
- 3:37Speaker 1: and Duke for four and then come in here and
- 3:41Speaker 1: my college roommate were we used the room together for
- 3:45Speaker 1: three years in basketball until he graduated All American, and
- 3:49Speaker 1: then he brought me here and for me to end
- 3:54Speaker 1: it here, it is very meaningful because I learned so
- 4:00Speaker 1: chair I said it early in this telecast. I got
- 4:05Speaker 1: my doctor's degree as well as a master's degree. The talent,
- 4:11Speaker 1: the work ethic, never give up. Surrounded by incredible people
- 4:18Speaker 1: who are own the Hall of Fame and you the
- 4:24Speaker 1: day is humbling, very humbling, because you come to work
- 4:32Speaker 1: and you want to give everybody a hundred, but you
- 4:37Speaker 1: don't realize the lives that you cross when you do
- 4:43Speaker 1: fifty years of this and then two years in the
- 4:46Speaker 1: ABA where we had a great time, and that was
- 4:50Speaker 1: fifty two years of the pros. But thank all the
- 4:53Speaker 1: management for having faith in me allow me to coach.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And then I want to thank all of the company
- 5:00Speaker 1: on television. I mean, you got it. You got to
- 5:03Speaker 1: give USA a credit. I mean they didn't know me
- 5:06Speaker 1: for madam okay, and they allowed me to do it
- 5:09Speaker 1: for a year. Clearly had a good scouting about that's right.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And I was able to look on CBS for three
- 5:16Speaker 1: years before they lost the contract, you know, uh to NBC.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And but then Dick Stockton, who was on here today, uh,
- 5:25Speaker 1: we eventually end up over there with Turner and we
- 5:29Speaker 1: were there for twelve years and and then all of
- 5:31Speaker 1: a sudden, you know, you're you're moving around and and
- 5:34Speaker 1: then oops, here comes the ESPN at ABC. Okay. So
- 5:40Speaker 1: I have so many things to be thankful for, but
- 5:44Speaker 1: my family and I can never thank everyone enough. We
- 5:49Speaker 1: just want to send them the love that I've seen
- 5:52Speaker 1: today right back with a big hug. And it was
- 5:57Speaker 1: a fantastic ride. And guys like you make it easy
- 6:02Speaker 1: my man, okay, because nobody's more prepared.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Than you well stop giving credit otherwise to other people.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So anyway, I just would like to say thank you.
- 6:15Speaker 1: That's the best thing that I can say, and that
- 6:18Speaker 1: we tried to come to everything prepared and we tried
- 6:21Speaker 1: to be able to show you the difference between the
- 6:24Speaker 1: weak side and the strong side, and why things happen
- 6:27Speaker 1: on one side and not the other, and then who's
- 6:30Speaker 1: doing what who's not doing so that we never underestimate
- 6:35Speaker 1: the IQ of the audience, but we want to help
- 6:40Speaker 1: improve that they can see the other side of the
- 6:44Speaker 1: floor where a lot of action is happening. So thanks
- 6:47Speaker 1: for your patience, fans. Today was a wonderful day for
- 6:51Speaker 1: my family because they're all here today and I love
- 6:57Speaker 1: you all, and thank you for the opportunity from management.
- 7:03Speaker 2: And thank you for everything you've done for all of
- 7:05Speaker 2: us and for this game and for the NBA. All right,
- 7:08Speaker 2: thank you, Matt Ubi Brown, the Hall of Famer, the
- 7:12Speaker 2: most remarkable career in sports broadcasting history. And we'll go
- 7:16Speaker 2: with one final rollout. Well, it's impossible in a single
- 7:22Speaker 2: telecast to properly thank a man who has given us
- 7:25Speaker 2: so much for so long. For basketball fans around the world,
- 7:29Speaker 2: ub Brown has been the gift that keeps on giving,
- 7:32Speaker 2: sharing his knowledge and experience and joy of the game.
- 7:36Speaker 2: He dedicated his life, and his final broadcast has been
- 7:39Speaker 2: called the end of an era. But Ubi's impact will
- 7:42Speaker 2: continue because the teachings and love of the game will
- 7:44Speaker 2: be passed down for generations of basketball fans. All the
- 7:48Speaker 2: people he taught, all the people he influenced, all the
- 7:50Speaker 2: people he touched. So with the utmost respect, admiration, and
- 7:55Speaker 2: so much love, we say thank you Ubi. Its game
- 8:00Speaker 2: and its fans will never forget you.
- 8:03Speaker 1: M m hm h.
- 8:08Speaker 2: M yeah, uh uh h
- 8:21Speaker 1: H
