- 2:43as the union encouraged travelers to avoid the striking hotels.
- 2:48Some visitors expressed sympathy for the workers, while others felt frustrated.
- 2:54The strike is part of a larger interstate effort involving over 25,000 workers nationwide,
- 3:00highlighting ongoing challenges in the hospitality industry.
- 3:04Now on to sports.

- 4:31Boston currently sits third in the AL East, while the Mets are third in the NL East,
- 4:36both teams eyeing a potential wild-card spot in their respective leagues.
- 4:42In top news, Disney has removed its channels, including ESPN, from DirecTV
- 4:49just minutes before a highly anticipated college football game, leaving over 10 million customers frustrated.
- 4:57This blackout is a result of a contentious contract dispute, with negotiations failing before the September 1st deadline.
- 5:05As traditional pay TV providers face ongoing challenges from court-cutting,
- 5:11DirecTV argues that Disney's requirement for minimum penetration of its channels is unfair to subscribers who do not watch sports.
- 5:20Meanwhile, sports fans are already feeling the impact, missing out on significant events,
- 5:26including the upcoming Monday Night Football game and the Emmy Awards.
- 5:32In business news, Stellantis is facing significant challenges
- 5:38following disappointing earnings results in July 2024.
- 5:43The multinational automaker has implemented aggressive cost-cutting measures,
- 5:48including voluntary buyouts and layoffs of over 2,450 assembly line workers.
- 5:55Amidst this turmoil, Walter B. Rhodes, a descendant of the Chrysler founder,
- 6:00made a proposal to rescue the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram brands from what he perceives as mismanagement.

- 7:24And now, back to the show.
- 7:27Let's talk science.
- 7:29NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore has reported a strange noise from the troubled Boeing Starliner space capsule,
- 7:36which has kept him and his colleague Suni Williams in orbit for six additional months since their launch in June.
- 7:44On Saturday, Wilmore communicated a pulsing sound from a speaker inside the capsule,
- 7:50prompting an investigation into its origin.
- 7:54The Starliner, plagued by helium leaks and propulsion issues,
- 7:58is scheduled to return to Earth on September 6, without the astronauts.
- 8:04They are now expected to return in a SpaceX capsule in February.
- 8:09Video anomalies in space are not uncommon, with past reports of unusual sounds from other missions.
- 8:19And in entertainment news.
- 8:21In Reagan, Dennis Quaid portrays the 40th president in a film directed by Sean McNamara, which some may call hagiographic.
- 8:31The movie attempts to capture Reagan's life in presidency through the eyes of a fictional Soviet official.
- 8:37Victor Petrovich, played by John Voight.
- 8:40While the film features clever visuals, such as intercutting scenes of Reagan chopping wood with the fall of the Berlin Wall,
- 8:47it largely lacks creativity.
- 8:50Quaid's portrayal has been criticized for its lack of authenticity,
- 8:54and the screenplay seems to favor a heroic narrative over a nuanced depiction of Reagan's complexities,
- 9:01ultimately missing an opportunity for depth.
- 9:05Well, alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the day.
- 9:10And today, our quote comes from the man Dennis Quaid portrayed, Ronald Reagan.
- 9:16And he said,
- 9:18Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.
- 9:23We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream.
- 9:27It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.
- 9:33And that's a wrap for this morning.
