- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, a WAVE original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Bobani Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:16Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:19Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:22Speaker 1: a hater. It is that time of week where we
- 0:24Speaker 1: have a guest join us. Check him out on First
- 0:27Speaker 1: Things First on FS1, 5 p.m.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Eastern. Danny Parkins, what's going.
- 0:32Speaker 3: On, man? Bo... I always love hanging out with you,
- 0:36Speaker 3: but man, we have some doozies for us today. We do,
- 0:38Speaker 3: we do, we do. I'm so excited to be here.
- 0:41Speaker 2: So there are like a couple of things that are
- 0:42Speaker 2: going on here.
- 0:43Speaker 1: One, New York has experienced the thaw, like the first
- 0:48Speaker 1: real thaw. We've had 70 degrees the last couple of days.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Changes everything, right? Time change came. We got the thaw.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's like everybody gets a little boost. The other thing
- 0:58Speaker 1: is Danny and I are both radio guys. And people
- 1:02Speaker 1: don't quite understand how daunting it can be, the prospect
- 1:06Speaker 1: of filling three or four hours of.
- 1:09Speaker 2: A radio show.
- 1:10Speaker 1: But there's a very special feeling that comes when it's six,
- 1:15Speaker 1: maybe seven o'clock the night before. Maybe it goes to
- 1:17Speaker 1: eight or nine or whatever. But something happens and you realize, oh.
- 1:22Speaker 1: The hay is in the barn. This show has taken
- 1:27Speaker 1: care of itself. I don't have to think about it.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I can just turn on the phones if I want to.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And we can just hang out for three hours. And
- 1:35Speaker 1: we have one of those sorts of days in a
- 1:39Speaker 1: space where we only have to fill an hour. And
- 1:41Speaker 1: this happens because I looked down at my phone last
- 1:45Speaker 1: night after not having looked at it for a while.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And I have all these texts.
- 1:52Speaker 1: About Bam scoring 83 points, and I can't understand either A,
- 1:59Speaker 1: who Bam is, or B, what game we're talking about
- 2:04Speaker 1: people playing, because there's no fucking world in which Bam
- 2:07Speaker 1: out of bio puts 83 points up in an NBA.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Game, but it happened, and Danny, it didn't just so happen.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Now, look, it was against the Wizards, and that part
- 2:18Speaker 1: is part of the story, but for people who are
- 2:20Speaker 1: unaware of what happened, There are important details that I
- 2:24Speaker 1: want to make sure that you understand about how absurd
- 2:28Speaker 1: this was. Bam scored 83 points in a game where
- 2:33Speaker 1: he shot below 50%.
- 2:35Speaker 2: From the floor, below 33% from three, but shot 43
- 2:37Speaker 2: free throws.
- 2:47Speaker 1: In the history of the NBA, the guys who have
- 2:49Speaker 1: put up free throw attempt numbers in one game that
- 2:52Speaker 1: are up there all have one thing in common.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Danny, you know what that is?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Tell me.
- 2:58Speaker 2: They all stink at shooting free throws.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 3:01Speaker 2: DeAndre Jordan.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Andre Drummond. Giannis.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Like, the people were intentionally putting them on the line. Like,
- 3:09Speaker 1: Will Chamberlain in the 100-point game. That was another part
- 3:11Speaker 1: of it is that they put them on the line.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 4: But.
- 3:14Speaker 1: All of this added up to Bam scoring 83 points.
- 3:18Speaker 3: It's, I too was alerted to this via the group chat.
- 3:24Speaker 3: And unlike you, I was, I was home and I
- 3:28Speaker 3: got league pass. And so my ass turned it on.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And I got to say, Bo, I think this is
- 3:37Speaker 3: where I've settled on it. that was the Michael Strahan
- 3:42Speaker 3: sack of NBA scoring accomplishments. Michael Strahan, great player, great season,
- 3:51Speaker 3: but how he got the record kind of whack. Yeah. Like,
- 3:55Speaker 3: like not even kind of objectively whack how he got
- 3:59Speaker 3: the record and bam. Listen, man, he had, He's a
- 4:03Speaker 3: great player. He's a gold medalist.
- 4:06Speaker 2: He's an all-star.
- 4:07Speaker 3: He's a top 10 defensive player for a long stretch.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Great backstory. I'm happy for him. He had 43 points
- 4:16Speaker 3: at halftime. The last, call it six or seven minutes
- 4:23Speaker 3: of that game, was a clown show. And I have
- 4:27Speaker 3: no problem with them running up the score on the
- 4:31Speaker 3: bum-ass Wizards. I have no problem with his teammates letting
- 4:37Speaker 3: him stat pad. I have no problem with going for
- 4:39Speaker 3: the record. It's a regular season NBA game and one
- 4:42Speaker 3: of the teams is tanking. I have no problem with it.
- 4:44Speaker 3: But when you are intentionally fouling, literally, intentionally fouling on
- 4:52Speaker 3: multiple possessions to extend it when Spoh is challenging a
- 4:58Speaker 3: charge call with four minutes left in the game to
- 5:02Speaker 3: hunt some extra free throws it's just it's it's a
- 5:06Speaker 3: little corny it's yeah it's a it's a little corny
- 5:10Speaker 3: how he got the record I feel like that's fair.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I think The question is, and I think it's important
- 5:18Speaker 1: to note, he did not get a record.
- 5:21Speaker 3: The modern scoring record.
- 5:23Speaker 2: It's so funny.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Wilt is on such another level from everything that we
- 5:31Speaker 1: don't even count that as the record. Eventually, somebody hit
- 5:35Speaker 1: more home runs than Babe Ruth. Eventually somebody outscored Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Wilt,
- 5:42Speaker 1: we're like, look, it's not even fair to compare anybody
- 5:45Speaker 1: to Wilt on top of the fact that some of
- 5:46Speaker 1: y'all think that shit is made up.
- 5:48Speaker 3: We haven't seen the video. That's a big part of
- 5:52Speaker 3: the reason.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It's not simply that we haven't seen the video. It's
- 5:59Speaker 1: just who we are now.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Right, right, right. This is what it is. But this.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I was watching on Get Up before we got in
- 6:08Speaker 1: here and Mike Greenberg made the point that history will
- 6:13Speaker 1: just remember the number and therefore this is history. And
- 6:19Speaker 1: so it ties in also to my man Neil Postman,
- 6:22Speaker 1: the author of Amusing Ourselves to Death and other books.
- 6:25Speaker 1: And he makes the point that with the printing press
- 6:31Speaker 1: and the ability to put down the written word, he
- 6:34Speaker 1: said Before the written word, there were.
- 6:36Speaker 2: No memoirs, right?
- 6:38Speaker 1: And so his point was that the notion of a
- 6:41Speaker 1: legacy came in the form of the written word and
- 6:45Speaker 1: in the form of the printing press. And what it
- 6:49Speaker 1: did was give man the arrogance to believe that he
- 6:53Speaker 1: could live forever because he could live forever in these,
- 6:57Speaker 1: like I say, in legacy, in the things that man
- 7:01Speaker 1: himself has written or in the things that man has
- 7:04Speaker 1: written about him, right? So if you view it through
- 7:06Speaker 1: that prism, yes, history will remember that Bam Adebayo scored
- 7:12Speaker 1: 83 points.
- 7:15Speaker 2: But we will never.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Remember it in the way that we remember Kobe scoring
- 7:21Speaker 1: the 81. And I hate this because I don't know
- 7:25Speaker 1: where you are on this, but I hate Kobe Stans.
- 7:30Speaker 1: I ain't saying nothing about Kobe. I hate Kobe stands
- 7:33Speaker 1: and buddy, they are charged up right now. Perhaps we
- 7:37Speaker 1: will get back to that, but I just want to
- 7:39Speaker 1: throw that out there. If you love a Kobe stand,
- 7:41Speaker 1: call them, see how they doing and don't take it
- 7:43Speaker 1: personally when they scream at you. It's about something bigger
- 7:46Speaker 1: than you right now. But we all remember like Kobe's 81.
- 7:52Speaker 1: To me, the more impressive one, and we won't remember
- 7:54Speaker 1: it like that one, is when Kobe had 62 and
- 7:56Speaker 1: three quarters and the Mavericks had 61, and those Mavericks
- 7:59Speaker 1: went to the finals that year.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Right? Kobe sat the fourth.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Like, they were this close to winning a
- 8:06Speaker 2: championship that year. We are never.
- 8:09Speaker 1: going to talk about this game from Bam in that way.
- 8:12Speaker 2: But hey, cool for him, right?
- 8:14Speaker 1: Like you got to say that you scored 83 points.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Nobody's going to take that away from you, but we
- 8:20Speaker 1: don't have to be fucking morons.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:23Speaker 1: We know what that was. We know what that was about.
- 8:26Speaker 1: And I agree with you that it's a little corny,
- 8:29Speaker 1: but I want to throw this out there. And it's
- 8:31Speaker 1: something that I feel like is a little bit underrated
- 8:33Speaker 1: about professional sports.
- 8:34Speaker 2: They are so cutthroat and guys are so petty, but.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I'm on the list of unwritten rules, which we only
- 8:39Speaker 1: really talk about with somebody getting injured or it's time
- 8:42Speaker 1: to fight.
- 8:43Speaker 2: One of the unwritten rules is if your opponent.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Has some sort of historic feat, close, attainable, everybody else
- 8:53Speaker 1: is supposed to do whatever it takes to help them
- 8:55Speaker 1: get there, right?
- 8:56Speaker 2: Like you don't bunt. during a no-hitter, for example. And
- 9:00Speaker 2: I get down when that is a little bit.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Especially if the game's not close.
- 9:05Speaker 2: That's a little bit janky, but if I didn't like you?
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah, lay it down.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Yeah, but on the other hand, that means the next
- 9:11Speaker 1: time you.
- 9:11Speaker 2: See him, you're whole. 95. Earhole.
- 9:14Speaker 4: It's coming.
- 9:15Speaker 3: It's coming.
- 9:15Speaker 2: It's coming right there.
- 9:16Speaker 1: But that is one of the fascinating things to me
- 9:18Speaker 1: is that the decision was clearly made by all parties
- 9:21Speaker 1: involved here that we're going to help you get it.
- 9:23Speaker 1: And to be honest, me, after he had them 30
- 9:26Speaker 1: in the first quarter, where the clothesline at?
- 9:30Speaker 3: Well, so, I mean, listen, they were double teaming him
- 9:33Speaker 3: in the back for it. They were triple teaming him
- 9:35Speaker 3: at times. And like, you know, you see that like
- 9:38Speaker 3: entry passes, like over three dudes, like just force feeding Bam.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Like it was hilarious. Uh, and yeah, I, I said, man,
- 9:46Speaker 3: I have no, no problem with his teammates trying to
- 9:51Speaker 3: stat pad for him. They were blowing out the wizards
- 9:53Speaker 3: and you should, you should blow out the wizards like that.
- 9:56Speaker 3: That is all that, that is all fine. And I
- 9:59Speaker 3: know that if any of this gets clipped and they
- 10:02Speaker 3: hear me say the stray hand part of the whack
- 10:04Speaker 3: part i'll be called a hater by heat nation and
- 10:06Speaker 3: heat culture and all that whatever that's all fine but
- 10:09Speaker 3: if you listen to the whole show fucking love the
- 10:13Speaker 3: NBA I love basketball like I already can tell I
- 10:17Speaker 3: already can see 24 hours in the future of like
- 10:20Speaker 3: Kevin Durant doing something about like do you guys even
- 10:24Speaker 3: like basketball or do you just like complaining about basketball
- 10:28Speaker 3: it's like no man like Bam had 43 at half
- 10:32Speaker 3: he had over 60 through three that was a great
- 10:34Speaker 3: game and no one can take it away from him
- 10:36Speaker 3: and he was second now all time and he's the
- 10:39Speaker 3: modern scoring leader and Kobe was his favorite player and
- 10:42Speaker 3: And we'll tell the story of his background and everything
- 10:46Speaker 3: that he overcame to get to where he was. Like,
- 10:48Speaker 3: that's all great. And it legitimately should be celebrated. But we,
- 10:54Speaker 3: like you said, we're not morons. Like, we can look
- 10:58Speaker 3: at a sporting accomplishment and say, well, they're not all
- 11:02Speaker 3: created equal.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Right?
- 11:04Speaker 3: Like, they're not all created equal. I called Thunder Nuggets
- 11:09Speaker 3: the night before on TV. I was like, that was
- 11:11Speaker 3: the game of the year. I had two... My wife
- 11:13Speaker 3: was out last night with some girlfriends. I had the
- 11:16Speaker 3: BAM game on. I had the... I had Celtic Spurs on. Like,
- 11:20Speaker 3: I am mainlining NBA regular season basketball. Like, I love
- 11:24Speaker 3: the sport. But... that wasn't hoop at the end of
- 11:27Speaker 3: that game. That was not a basketball game. It just wasn't.
- 11:30Speaker 1: And that was the interesting thing about the Kobe 81
- 11:32Speaker 1: was that was a basketball game.
- 11:33Speaker 3: That was a basketball game.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Like he got it.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Like I, he was, he was the only guy who
- 11:39Speaker 3: shot for the last like six or seven minutes of
- 11:41Speaker 3: that game. But, but I mean, but that's fine.
- 11:45Speaker 2: He did that all the time. Any goddamn way.
- 11:48Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. It was, I watched that game too.
- 11:50Speaker 3: It was a basketball game. The, at the end of
- 11:53Speaker 3: the game last night, I, I, I, Anyone who's talking
- 11:57Speaker 3: about it today, if you're going to do your homework,
- 12:00Speaker 3: you need to have either watched it or you need
- 12:02Speaker 3: to go watch the extended YouTube highlights of that game.
- 12:05Speaker 3: It was not a basketball game. It just wasn't.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Well, also, generally speaking, any record, and I think this
- 12:12Speaker 1: is where to be fair to Bam, anything that is
- 12:14Speaker 1: in that record space, somebody gunned for it to get it, right?
- 12:19Speaker 2: When OJ Simpson ran for 2,000 yards....
- 12:22Speaker 1: If there had been one more game that season, he
- 12:26Speaker 1: does not run for 2000 yards in 14 games because
- 12:29Speaker 1: they went out there in game 14 with the plan.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Of we're going to go get this record.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:37Speaker 1: The infamous David Thompson, George Girvin scoring title run. where
- 12:43Speaker 1: David Thompson scored something like 73, and I think Girvin
- 12:46Speaker 1: had to come back and get like 60 or something
- 12:47Speaker 1: to do it after. Everybody was gunning for a number
- 12:51Speaker 1: in order to make that happen. When Kobe got the 81,
- 12:54Speaker 1: it was, you know, again, he did that stuff anyway,
- 12:58Speaker 1: but it was, hey, we're going to get this number
- 12:59Speaker 1: up as high as we can. Wilt Chamberlain, when that happened,
- 13:02Speaker 1: But I saw, again, I was watching Get Up before
- 13:04Speaker 1: I came in here, and Alan Hahn was making the point,
- 13:06Speaker 1: don't talk to me right now about ethical basketball. And
- 13:10Speaker 1: his argument was, it wasn't ethical basketball in the Wilt
- 13:12Speaker 1: game because they fouled him all the time early because
- 13:15Speaker 1: they thought he couldn't shoot free throws. And then they
- 13:18Speaker 1: were doing everything they could to stop him from getting baskets.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I'm like, no, that makes the Wilt feet even more impressive, right?
- 13:25Speaker 1: They thought, well, he can't shoot free throws.
- 13:26Speaker 2: That'll do it. And he was on fire that day.
- 13:29Speaker 2: And so, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, right?
- 13:31Speaker 1: The Wilt feet, Like I say, there's a reason why
- 13:34Speaker 1: we just talk about everything else in this. This, however,
- 13:38Speaker 1: was simply not one of the great scoring performances of
- 13:42Speaker 1: all time.
- 13:42Speaker 2: It was a great way to spend an evening, apparently. Oh, yeah.
- 13:47Speaker 2: It was a great ending of it.
- 13:49Speaker 1: It was a very Miami situation. A really good, ultimately
- 13:53Speaker 1: superficial and insignificant good time.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Right? Yeah, I should have made that point earlier. Dude,
- 14:03Speaker 3: I was laughing my ass off watching it. Like, I'm not, like,
- 14:07Speaker 3: offended by it. But it was just like, oh, you
- 14:12Speaker 3: kind of see what's going on here.
- 14:15Speaker 2: I mean, like, this was not.
- 14:17Speaker 1: We've had so many people score 70 points lately.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:21Speaker 1: But at least it all felt like, this is crazy,
- 14:22Speaker 1: it all felt like they were on fire. I can't
- 14:25Speaker 1: imagine as a basketball team, even with some of the
- 14:27Speaker 1: fouls being intentional, we get to the early part, how
- 14:30Speaker 1: y'all so sorry y'all put Bam on the line 43 times?
- 14:35Speaker 1: They are the worst defense in the NBA, and it showed. Yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 1: I mean, but, oh my God, and I was watching
- 14:41Speaker 1: them out there. They mailed in on that game early. Like,
- 14:44Speaker 1: I can't imagine how much it sucks to be a
- 14:45Speaker 1: Washington Wizard. They mailed that shit in. They're just like, look, man,
- 14:49Speaker 1: we just be out here Like we just, we just play,
- 14:52Speaker 1: you know?
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Just, just going out. It was like with the press
- 14:56Speaker 3: conference with Russ, a couple of games back in Sacramento.
- 14:59Speaker 3: It was like, what do you, what's your incentive to
- 15:00Speaker 3: go out for, you know, the last 15 games, just
- 15:02Speaker 3: winning games, whatever it was. And he's like, Well, I mean,
- 15:04Speaker 3: there's a basketball game to be played.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 2: But see, the difference is Russ is a professional.
- 15:09Speaker 3: That's right. No, he may play hard. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 2: These guys are just.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Out here like, I don't even know, man. Like, what
- 15:15Speaker 1: are we doing here? But I'm going to throw another
- 15:16Speaker 1: game out here. And this is where you and I
- 15:19Speaker 1: have just enough of an age difference that I don't
- 15:21Speaker 1: know if you remember this. But do you remember when
- 15:23Speaker 1: David Robinson put up, I think it was 71 in 1995?
- 15:28Speaker 3: Yeah, because he was the first guy to do it.
- 15:30Speaker 4: It was.
- 15:31Speaker 3: It was Wilt and Elgin, and then he became the
- 15:33Speaker 3: third guy ever to do it.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Well, he was the David Thompson.
- 15:36Speaker 1: He was the first one since David Thompson in the
- 15:38Speaker 1: scoring title race. But the thing about the game was,
- 15:41Speaker 1: it was the last game of the season. They were
- 15:43Speaker 1: playing against the Clippers at the old LA Sports Arena.
- 15:48Speaker 1: And Shaq, who had already invented reasons to dislike David Robinson,
- 15:54Speaker 1: was poised to win the scoring title. Until the Spurs
- 15:59Speaker 1: decided they wanted David Robinson to win the scoring title,
- 16:02Speaker 1: and they were up big and fouling late so that
- 16:05Speaker 1: they could get the ball back and everything else. And
- 16:09Speaker 1: even with the fact that it was the first in
- 16:10Speaker 1: however long, as you described it, we have never treated
- 16:13Speaker 1: that as one of the great scoring performances of all time.
- 16:16Speaker 1: We have never thought about that the way we thought
- 16:18Speaker 1: about MJ's 69 against, I think it or the 63
- 16:23Speaker 1: against the Celtics because we understood the context and we
- 16:26Speaker 1: knew what it was. That doesn't mean, again, that anybody
- 16:29Speaker 1: has to apologize for the fact that they enjoyed watching it.
- 16:35Speaker 1: But you're not, I don't have to treat this like
- 16:40Speaker 1: it was a, it was, you know what? I feel
- 16:42Speaker 1: like we need to come up with a distinction between
- 16:44Speaker 1: history and a record.
- 16:46Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Like remember when Devin Booker had that 70 points in
- 16:49Speaker 1: the bubble? And that was before the 70-point run that's happened, right?
- 16:53Speaker 1: Lucas hit for 70 since then. Donovan Mitchell's hit from 70.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Nobody remembers Devin Booker scoring 70. We know that Devin
- 17:00Speaker 1: Booker did it, right? The Lucas 70, we know he
- 17:03Speaker 1: did it, but they are not history.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Right, and there is a.
- 17:10Speaker 3: This is all parsing greatness, but that's what we do
- 17:13Speaker 3: when we talk about sports. We debate useless shit.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Right, but was this... I think it's fair to ask
- 17:20Speaker 2: if this was great.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Is it a great scoring performance when you're 20 for
- 17:24Speaker 1: 43 from the floor and seven for 22 from three?
- 17:29Speaker 3: Is that great? And you said you, you, you made
- 17:31Speaker 3: more free throws than anyone in the history of basketball
- 17:33Speaker 3: and you attempted more free throws than anyone in the
- 17:36Speaker 3: history of basketball. Like it is again, like if it's
- 17:41Speaker 3: not greatness, it's what, I mean, he still scored 83
- 17:44Speaker 3: points in a professional basket.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Hell of a night.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Right. So is it, so are, is it, but the, the,
- 17:50Speaker 1: is great is a great night greatness.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yeah that's it i mean i guess that's a good
- 17:56Speaker 3: like so one that i was thinking about was uh
- 17:59Speaker 3: you remember when clay thompson i forget if he was
- 18:02Speaker 3: 61 or 62 yeah.
- 18:03Speaker 2: With the with the like four dribbles or.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Whatever yeah in 29 minutes yes it was like wait
- 18:08Speaker 3: it was like what yeah that was nuts that that
- 18:12Speaker 3: was nuts like like like that That is more greatness
- 18:18Speaker 3: than what Bam did last night, and he scored 22
- 18:21Speaker 3: fewer points.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Look, that's what you think is going to happen, or
- 18:25Speaker 1: has happened if somebody says somebody scored 83 points.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It's something like that.
- 18:29Speaker 3: That's right. Because, again, I was watching both games last night, and,
- 18:33Speaker 3: you know, Tirico is doing the– and the NBC, like
- 18:38Speaker 3: the main NBC crew were doing– the spurs celtics game
- 18:42Speaker 3: and so like they're like during the fourth quarter of
- 18:44Speaker 3: that game like they're talking about bam and uh i
- 18:48Speaker 3: think yeah it's reggie miller and and reggie's like he's
- 18:51Speaker 3: like someone's gonna get a hundred and i'm like i
- 18:54Speaker 3: don't know it's been a long time it's been a
- 18:56Speaker 3: long time we've had this three-point thing for a while
- 18:58Speaker 3: and you could question the narrator or the messenger there
- 19:01Speaker 3: of Reggie Miller. And I certainly have plenty of issues
- 19:03Speaker 3: with this commentary, but like, yeah, it felt, it feels
- 19:06Speaker 3: like we have, we have bad defense. We have bad teams.
- 19:09Speaker 3: We have tanking. We're going to see teams overtly tank
- 19:12Speaker 3: as hard as they possibly can. And the three point
- 19:15Speaker 3: shot is like, why can't someone hit 20 threes.
- 19:18Speaker 2: In a game?
- 19:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 2: That's coming.
- 19:20Speaker 3: That's come. I, I, that, that is coming at some
- 19:23Speaker 3: point and we'll have to reckon with it.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I'm sorry, man.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I don't consider myself to be no kind of hater
- 19:28Speaker 1: or anything like that, but I'll, kidney punch you first.
- 19:34Speaker 5: All right there's just no there's just there's just no
- 19:36Speaker 5: like i just i just can't i just can't abide
- 19:39Speaker 5: by um i have been accused at points in my
- 19:42Speaker 5: life of taking myself too seriously and i don't think
- 19:45Speaker 5: i take myself too seriously but i tell you this
- 19:47Speaker 5: right now i ain't no joke you know what i'm
- 19:51Speaker 5: saying like this is not like the wizards somebody got to.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Come out here and just decide they've had enough yeah
- 19:57Speaker 1: of course every now and then somebody has a moment
- 19:59Speaker 1: where they decide they've had enough and it goes too
- 20:01Speaker 1: far do you remember that time that deandre jordan dunked
- 20:04Speaker 1: on brandon knight so bad that he knocked him out
- 20:06Speaker 1: the sky But it was entirely Brandon Knight trying to
- 20:11Speaker 1: prove that the Pistons wasn't no joke. And it turned
- 20:14Speaker 1: out they were a riot, in fact. They were uproarious,
- 20:20Speaker 1: if we're being perfectly honest.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But I wouldn't have said none of this last night.
- 20:25Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'd have done nothing to take away from his joy. Like,
- 20:29Speaker 1: he should feel like he scored 83 points.
- 20:32Speaker 2: That being said, I have to get back to this
- 20:34Speaker 2: Kobe Stanton thing.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Please.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I don't know if you have seen the tweets from
- 20:38Speaker 2: the Kobe stands.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I have.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 3: You know, the algorithm is. Yeah.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Yes.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Pumping out that rage.
- 20:43Speaker 3: It sure is. I've seen it all, though.
- 20:46Speaker 2: They are furious. This is amazing.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Right.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I read it in the Windhorse story. I didn't see
- 20:57Speaker 3: this yet, but they booed.
- 20:59Speaker 2: They booed.
- 21:00Speaker 3: They booed at crypto last night? That's amazing.
- 21:02Speaker 2: They booed.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I would actually love to know what Kobe would passive-aggressively
- 21:06Speaker 1: snidely say about this if.
- 21:09Speaker 2: He were here.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Only took me 20 free throws.
- 21:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:12Speaker 1: You know, there's a way to, like, just, but this
- 21:16Speaker 1: is Kobe State. Like, the memory of Kobe is so important, obviously, right?
- 21:19Speaker 1: Kobe passing, you know, contributes significantly.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Or adds to it. But I've seen people imply that
- 21:23Speaker 2: there was a conspiracy to just keep sending Bam to
- 21:27Speaker 2: the line to give this record or whatever. No, this
- 21:30Speaker 2: is just.
- 21:31Speaker 1: A lot of weird stuff came together at the same
- 21:36Speaker 1: time to create this moment.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Do you think we will now like... Because this got celebrated.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I mean, LeBron, KD... Giannis, I saw the who's who
- 21:53Speaker 3: of NBA greatness immediately throw their arms around this. And again,
- 22:00Speaker 3: Bam is a likable dude. Their teammate on Team USA,
- 22:05Speaker 3: great backstory, all that stuff. Do you think we're going to, like,
- 22:11Speaker 3: we got 15 games left, 18 games left, depending on
- 22:15Speaker 3: the team. in a regular season where about a third
- 22:18Speaker 3: of the league is tanking.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Will somebody try it?
- 22:21Speaker 3: Yeah. If, if, if, if how, if what happened last
- 22:24Speaker 3: night is celebrated and it's just like immediately embraced, you,
- 22:28Speaker 3: you just Google, I do. I Googled Bama out of
- 22:31Speaker 3: bio today, just before we came on just to like,
- 22:34Speaker 3: you know, top five headlines, some straight news stories like recap.
- 22:40Speaker 3: He scores 83 Miami star scores 83. Then the other three,
- 22:43Speaker 3: the other three that come up of the five, Bam
- 22:46Speaker 3: Adebayo scores 83 points. Stop complaining about free throws and
- 22:50Speaker 3: just appreciate greatness. Celebrate Bam Adebayo's 83-point game. Don't debate
- 22:54Speaker 3: its merits. Bam Adebayo rode free throws to 83 points,
- 22:57Speaker 3: but there's little shame in it. Everyone is just immediately...
- 23:02Speaker 3: There is a concerted effort.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I think it is in part to the pushback of
- 23:07Speaker 1: the tendency post-All-Star or around All-Star every year.
- 23:11Speaker 2: To talk about what's wrong, right? And that's what I.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Alluded to with the KD thing of like, but I
- 23:16Speaker 3: promise you, you can love basketball and still debate these
- 23:20Speaker 3: things on its merits.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like this was a wild shit.
- 23:23Speaker 3: This was a wild shit. This was a wild shit.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Bam out of bio averages four and a half free
- 23:31Speaker 3: throws a game. Last night he shot 43. Yes, yeah.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Come on.
- 23:35Speaker 4: You know what?
- 23:36Speaker 1: This would actually be better if Bam wasn't so good. Like,
- 23:42Speaker 1: if this is somebody like.
- 23:44Speaker 3: If Kobe White... Yeah, exactly. Right?
- 23:47Speaker 2: Because then it becomes more of a Rudy story.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And then nobody says anything bad about it because it's
- 23:53Speaker 1: just good for him.
- 23:54Speaker 2: It'll never be like this again. Da-da-da. Whatever.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Not hot.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Like, Bam got a girlfriend we like. He got gold medals.
- 24:01Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? He went to Kentucky. Like,
- 24:03Speaker 2: this is not... Yeah, it doesn't... There's a world in
- 24:07Speaker 2: which it feels a little better and a little different,
- 24:10Speaker 2: but no, I'm with you.
- 24:11Speaker 1: You're not going to get me on a, you just
- 24:12Speaker 1: hate the NBA because all those people that do that,
- 24:15Speaker 1: what my response is, but you know, I don't hate
- 24:17Speaker 1: the NBA.
- 24:17Speaker 3: So now what?
- 24:18Speaker 2: And then they don't have anything to respond.
- 24:22Speaker 3: To, right?
- 24:22Speaker 2: Like it is straw man construction in large part.
- 24:25Speaker 1: And I also think like writing something that jumps out
- 24:29Speaker 1: preemptively telling people not to dislike it.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Let me tell you this too. Kobe fans will come,
- 24:34Speaker 2: they put your car on blocks. They don't care. Like,
- 24:36Speaker 2: you gonna tell them not to do this? Like, no, no, no.
- 24:40Speaker 2: And Kobe's 81 is still gonna be.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Kobe's 81 gonna be like for old white people what
- 24:44Speaker 1: Babe Ruth 714 was. Like, yeah, I heard somebody broke
- 24:48Speaker 1: that shit, but 714, boy, it got a ring to it.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't like to be lumped with the
- 24:55Speaker 3: old whites, but I kind of agree.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Well, no, I'll put it like this.
- 25:01Speaker 1: How many people know how many home runs Barry Bonds
- 25:04Speaker 1: finished with?
- 25:06Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:07Speaker 1: More people know... I bet you it's 762, but I
- 25:09Speaker 1: bet you more people know 755.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yep, exactly. Than they know 762. Like, you know, and
- 25:14Speaker 2: I think that is probably what's going to happen.
- 25:16Speaker 1: But no, he'll... Look, it's not... The other thing about
- 25:20Speaker 1: this too is you can put together a highlight package
- 25:24Speaker 1: that then becomes the defining memory because... I don't know
- 25:27Speaker 1: if you remember the worst officiated game in the history
- 25:29Speaker 1: of American professional sports, but in the 1997 National League
- 25:33Speaker 1: Championship Series, Levon Hernandez, I believe, I can't remember if
- 25:37Speaker 1: it was 15 or 17 strikeouts, where all he had
- 25:39Speaker 1: to do was throw the ball in the motherfucking stadium.
- 25:41Speaker 2: And Eric Gregg was just punching him up, right? Just
- 25:44Speaker 2: going for it.
- 25:45Speaker 1: And they made a 30 for 30 about the Hernandez brothers,
- 25:49Speaker 1: Levon and El Duque.
- 25:50Speaker 2: And I went to the premiere of that. It was
- 25:52Speaker 2: in Miami.
- 25:52Speaker 1: And, you know, it was super Cuban in there, right?
- 25:55Speaker 1: So I'm just surrounded by all these people who think
- 25:56Speaker 1: this moment for Levon is historic. And me, Braves fan,
- 26:01Speaker 1: is seething in furies. I'm hating every minute of it.
- 26:06Speaker 2: But I watched the way they chopped that up, man.
- 26:08Speaker 2: You would never know it was cheap.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Movement on those pitches, guys were chasing.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you never know what they was cheating for
- 26:17Speaker 1: the way they chopped that up. So you chop up 83,
- 26:19Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying?
- 26:21Speaker 2: You can turn it into a thing.
- 26:22Speaker 3: And again, 43 in the first half.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Right.
- 26:25Speaker 2: That is something.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Again, it hit my group chat of NBA fan friends
- 26:33Speaker 3: at halftime. Like, you know what I mean? It was
- 26:36Speaker 3: a great night. that got greatly ridiculous. Both can be true.
- 26:46Speaker 3: We can speak truth to both parts of the story.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I'll also tell you this.
- 26:52Speaker 1: There was a little short stretch of time about 10,
- 26:54Speaker 1: 12 years ago where Phil Jackson and I were Twitter buddies.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Nice.
- 26:59Speaker 1: And he made a point to me about Kobe and
- 27:01Speaker 1: Kobe taking all that shots and was like, let's just
- 27:03Speaker 1: say the number was 40. He's just basically like, let
- 27:06Speaker 1: me tell you something. What's really hard to do to
- 27:09Speaker 1: take 40 shots like the effort it takes to simply
- 27:14Speaker 1: put up 40 shots bam put up 40 shots and
- 27:18Speaker 1: 40 free throws right that you know what that's like
- 27:21Speaker 1: that's like playing 36 holes of golf and everybody who
- 27:24Speaker 1: thinks that golf don't take no effort and golf ain't
- 27:26Speaker 1: hard work go out there swing that club 150 times.
- 27:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's if you're good. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No,
- 27:37Speaker 3: and walk the eight miles.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:40Speaker 3: And be outdoors and in the sun and all that stuff. Yeah, no,
- 27:43Speaker 3: like absolutely right. Now, we hold professional athletes to the
- 27:48Speaker 3: standard of being able to do it, but I'm quite
- 27:51Speaker 3: sure that Bam was tired after that game.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Yeah, no, no, there's a lot of dudes in the
- 27:54Speaker 1: league that could not put up 40 shots if it
- 27:55Speaker 1: came to it.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 27:57Speaker 2: It is a thing. Absolutely. But coming up next.
- 28:00Speaker 1: You guys may have heard that the Max Crosby trade
- 28:02Speaker 1: guy rescinded, but in real time, I'm going to give
- 28:05Speaker 1: Danny Parkins some news.

- 31:29Speaker 1: are back with Danny Parkins. So it appears that the
- 31:34Speaker 1: Raiders sold the Ravens a lemon.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Right?
- 31:40Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, look, the Ravens generally knew the Carfax
- 31:45Speaker 1: on Matt Crosby.
- 31:46Speaker 2: And let's be honest.
- 31:46Speaker 1: 29 years old, coming off a meniscus tear, trained two
- 31:50Speaker 1: first-round picks, which sounds like was more than anybody else
- 31:54Speaker 1: was offering, was a lot to throw out there. Apparently,
- 32:01Speaker 1: just so I can set it up for the people,
- 32:03Speaker 1: Crosby gets to the Ravens. They do the physical, and
- 32:07Speaker 1: they decide that he a little too dinged up. They
- 32:10Speaker 1: still had their receipt, and so they returned Max Crosby
- 32:15Speaker 1: to sender.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Now there's been a lot of discussion around sending Max
- 32:21Speaker 1: Crosby back to sender the ethics of it from the Ravens.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I am curious where you fall on that.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Well, listen, if you, if you traded two first round
- 32:33Speaker 3: picks for somebody and then you do your medicals and
- 32:37Speaker 3: you think that he, the medicals don't look good to you.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Like that, that's within the, it's within the rules. Yes.
- 32:43Speaker 3: You know, like if it was, My team was rich.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Rich Eisen said the bears also offered two first round picks.
- 32:50Speaker 3: And like, if, if they got, if they, the bears
- 32:54Speaker 3: did it a couple of years ago and I was
- 32:55Speaker 3: a free agent. They signed Larry Ogunjobi to a big deal.
- 32:59Speaker 3: And then he flunked his physical and they took away
- 33:02Speaker 3: is like 40 million bucks that they gave to this
- 33:04Speaker 3: defensive tackle. And Larry Ogunjobi never had a good year,
- 33:07Speaker 3: the rest of his career. And I'm like really glad
- 33:09Speaker 3: that my team didn't, you know, throw, you know, good
- 33:12Speaker 3: money after bad. So like it's within the right, They
- 33:15Speaker 3: can do it. But what I think is very fishy
- 33:19Speaker 3: about this is no one was ever claiming that Max
- 33:23Speaker 3: Crosby was cleared to play if there was a football
- 33:26Speaker 3: game tomorrow. He had knee surgery. The Raiders shut him
- 33:32Speaker 3: down at the end of last year. Now, Crosby was
- 33:35Speaker 3: reportedly furious about that because he wanted to play through it.
- 33:39Speaker 3: And this is a meniscus, not a full ACL reconstruction
- 33:42Speaker 3: or anything like that. So you can grind it out
- 33:45Speaker 3: and play through. But he had knee surgery within the
- 33:48Speaker 3: last few months. No one is claiming that if there
- 33:51Speaker 3: was a football game tomorrow, he could play. The question is,
- 33:54Speaker 3: is he on track to fully recover from this? The
- 33:58Speaker 3: Raiders say yes. The Ravens evidently say no. But you
- 34:04Speaker 3: traded for a dude coming off knee surgery who hasn't been– Right.
- 34:09Speaker 3: Who has not been cleared to play. So like you
- 34:12Speaker 3: knew that when you traded for him. So is it
- 34:15Speaker 3: within the rules? Yes. But is it, it it's beyond fishy.
- 34:21Speaker 3: And I would be furious if I were the Raiders.
- 34:25Speaker 3: And I can period next paragraph this. I said on
- 34:28Speaker 3: Monday after the trade to brew, who's a Ravens guy.
- 34:31Speaker 3: I was like, this is an overpay. Like historically it's
- 34:36Speaker 3: an overpay. All of the, of multiple first-round picks for non-quarterbacks.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Sauce Gardner, Micah Parsons, Laramie Tunsil, Jalen Ramsey, Khalil Mack.
- 34:51Speaker 3: All of those guys are 25, 26 years old. And
- 34:54Speaker 3: Max Crosby's 29 coming off of knee surgery. So it
- 34:57Speaker 3: was an incredibly risky trade just based on the age
- 35:00Speaker 3: of Crosby. So now to flunk his physical, and if
- 35:03Speaker 3: they turn around and sign Trey Hendrickson, boy, the league
- 35:06Speaker 3: is going to be furious. Well.
- 35:09Speaker 1: What if I told you that the news you could
- 35:12Speaker 1: use that I teased for you earlier.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Four years, $ 112 billion.
- 35:18Speaker 5: Trey Hendrickson to the Ravens.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Oh, no way. Is that real?
- 35:22Speaker 1: Yes, I was sitting here the whole way letting you
- 35:25Speaker 1: set up the fish case and I was going to
- 35:27Speaker 1: be like, well, what if I told you?
- 35:29Speaker 3: Oh my God.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Dude, look, man, let me tell you this.
- 35:33Speaker 1: As somebody who has taken a job and then turned
- 35:35Speaker 1: it down because something else.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Happened, right? I know exactly what happened here.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 35:42Speaker 2: They were like, You don't say, huh?
- 35:46Speaker 3: But, oh, wow. Okay, well, I mean, that is... Listen. Like,
- 35:52Speaker 3: I mean, hilarious for having no dog in the fight
- 35:56Speaker 3: for rooting for it, but, like, that absolutely needs to
- 35:59Speaker 3: be investigated. You can't do that.
- 36:03Speaker 1: But the trade isn't official, so you can always turn
- 36:05Speaker 1: back around. Like, sometimes people just got to be mad
- 36:07Speaker 1: at you.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, sure. Sure.
- 36:10Speaker 2: But....
- 36:15Speaker 3: If you want people to do business with you in
- 36:17Speaker 3: the future.
- 36:18Speaker 2: I agree.
- 36:19Speaker 3: I agree.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I fully agree with you. It's a bad way to
- 36:22Speaker 2: play it.
- 36:22Speaker 1: You'll never do a deal with Max Crosby's agent ever again.
- 36:26Speaker 3: You might never do a deal with the Ravens again.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Because if you are getting out of it through the
- 36:34Speaker 3: prism of, well, he flunked his physical... But that's not
- 36:40Speaker 3: the actual thing. That's bad business, man. Business ethics.
- 36:43Speaker 2: That's an F.
- 36:44Speaker 1: But at the same time, is there a sliding scale
- 36:48Speaker 1: on physicals? And what I mean by that is what
- 36:53Speaker 1: has happened in the past in different sports is the
- 36:56Speaker 1: physical has been failed and then the terms of the
- 36:59Speaker 1: trade change.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 37:01Speaker 1: So you could say with the physical being this, maybe
- 37:06Speaker 1: it's one first round pick instead of two. The Ravens,
- 37:11Speaker 1: I think what is most suspicious is that the Ravens completely.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Bailed, it sounds like.
- 37:17Speaker 1: I have not read anything or seen anything that implies
- 37:20Speaker 1: that there was an attempt at a renegotiation, which is
- 37:23Speaker 1: something that was on the board. They got out and instead,
- 37:27Speaker 1: in free agency, signed damn near the same player.
- 37:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, a couple years older, but not coming
- 37:37Speaker 3: off of meniscus. But not coming off of meniscus surgery.
- 37:39Speaker 3: That is wild. And yeah, listen, the point of like
- 37:46Speaker 3: sometimes people just have to be mad at you because
- 37:48Speaker 3: you have to operate in self-interest is a very like
- 37:53Speaker 3: real practical, like you are objectively correct. And like, would
- 37:59Speaker 3: I do something that would make me unpopular if it
- 38:02Speaker 3: was for the betterment? of my wife and kids, like, obviously. But, like,
- 38:08Speaker 3: this is breaking with a lot of precedent, man. It's
- 38:10Speaker 3: not how you do it. The trade is not official
- 38:13Speaker 3: until the new league year starts. So, yes, you can
- 38:15Speaker 3: rescind it. Yes, you're allowed to rescind it for a physical.
- 38:18Speaker 3: But to then turn around also before the new league
- 38:21Speaker 3: year starts, like, the things are obviously connected. Like, no
- 38:24Speaker 3: one is going to be able to conclude that the
- 38:26Speaker 3: Ravens just found themselves having interest in Trey Hendrickson after
- 38:31Speaker 3: the Crosby– After they failed him on the physical, they're
- 38:34Speaker 3: going to everyone is going to say, my guess is correctly. Oh,
- 38:37Speaker 3: we realized we could just get this dude for just
- 38:39Speaker 3: money and keep our picks. And then they went ahead
- 38:41Speaker 3: and did it. Yeah.
- 38:42Speaker 1: And by the way, the whole league was furious immediately.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Nobody in the league entertained the possibility. It's from all
- 38:52Speaker 1: the stuff that we're seeing from reporters. that the entire league,
- 38:56Speaker 1: which tells me, apparently, Baltimore have been out here living.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Janky in other ways, right?
- 39:01Speaker 1: Like, I mean, just Lockham 4 came out there and
- 39:04Speaker 1: just said, basically, that they have a fraud of a
- 39:07Speaker 1: general manager.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Or, like, you know, the people that are running this,
- 39:09Speaker 2: this is, they are being, and this is after everybody
- 39:12Speaker 2: had always.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Had so much positive to say about them, right? Like,
- 39:15Speaker 1: we have seen them as a model organization. Diana Rossini,
- 39:18Speaker 1: by the way, sent the tweet. I'm going to read
- 39:20Speaker 1: it word for word. It's been made clear by multiple
- 39:22Speaker 1: people around the NFL at all levels that Baltimore had
- 39:25Speaker 1: all the information and understood where Max Crosby's knee was
- 39:28Speaker 1: in terms of his recovery timeline. Many in the league
- 39:31Speaker 1: believe GM Eric DaCosta and the Ravens ultimately just got
- 39:34Speaker 1: cold feet.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's janky, man. Ain't no way around it.
- 39:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. That is going to be... It's not the
- 39:44Speaker 3: exact same as the Chris Paul trade when the league
- 39:46Speaker 3: stepped in, but it's like, whew, that.
- 39:50Speaker 3: That smells yeah like that that like there's something going
- 39:53Speaker 3: on there and it just doesn't sit right with you
- 39:56Speaker 3: uh that doesn't sit right with me at all and
- 40:00Speaker 3: i have to like take a little bit of a
- 40:02Speaker 3: moment here to put my finger on it but like
- 40:03Speaker 3: it's just basically like.
- 40:05Speaker 2: You it's dishonest it's yeah it's.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Dishonest and like trey hendrickson was also available when you
- 40:11Speaker 3: traded for max crosby Like what new piece of information
- 40:16Speaker 3: could there really be? Like you got a world renowned surgeon.
- 40:20Speaker 3: It's a minor surgery. Like he's got the best work
- 40:24Speaker 3: ethic of like everyone's like, well, Max Crosby, he's the
- 40:26Speaker 3: edge rusher who doesn't come off the field. He plays
- 40:28Speaker 3: all three downs. His character is this, his motor is this,
- 40:31Speaker 3: his locker room. Like he's like, is there any doubt
- 40:34Speaker 3: that Max Crosby is going to recover from a meniscus cleanup? Like,
- 40:38Speaker 3: I just, I don't know. That is a, That is
- 40:41Speaker 3: a wild way to do business, man.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Well, also, do you call Trey Hendrickson or does Trey
- 40:46Speaker 1: Hendrickson call you? Like, at what point in the process
- 40:51Speaker 1: did that really get going? Because, I mean, I just
- 40:53Speaker 1: don't believe that out of nowhere at the end they
- 40:56Speaker 1: call Trey Hendrickson. Was it a matter of you've made
- 40:58Speaker 1: this trade and then somehow you wind up on the
- 41:00Speaker 1: phone with Trey Hendrickson and now you believe that that
- 41:02Speaker 1: is attainable and you're like, ugh.
- 41:07Speaker 3: But, like, Trey Hendrickson, we have known Trey Hendrickson was
- 41:11Speaker 3: going to be available this offseason.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Yeah, but they didn't know they was going to get him. Yeah,
- 41:15Speaker 2: but they didn't know they was going to get him.
- 41:17Speaker 3: No, they did not.
- 41:18Speaker 2: And maybe that's it. Like, I don't know.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Like, there are moving parts here that are just, like,
- 41:22Speaker 1: in the end, nobody's going to care, right?
- 41:24Speaker 3: Sure.
- 41:25Speaker 1: But it's such a great in-the-moment story, right? Just, like,
- 41:29Speaker 1: how in the world? This was the biggest story coming
- 41:31Speaker 1: off the weekend. Trades being rescinded, generally, are a great topic.
- 41:36Speaker 1: This is different, though, because it was a guy getting
- 41:38Speaker 1: traded for picks, and we know that guy is not
- 41:41Speaker 1: still going to be there. I was in Houston with
- 41:43Speaker 1: the all-time rescinded trade when the Rockets traded Robert Ori
- 41:48Speaker 1: to Detroit for Sean Elliott, and Sean Elliott failed to
- 41:51Speaker 1: physical because of a kidney situation, and then Ori had
- 41:54Speaker 1: to come back.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Like we don't really got one of those.
- 41:58Speaker 3: We like, I listen, I mean, the Raiders also spent
- 42:01Speaker 3: a grip load of money in free agency and like
- 42:04Speaker 3: cap ramifications. And, you know, they, they, they were like,
- 42:09Speaker 3: we are going to, you know, we're going to sign
- 42:12Speaker 3: Naylor from Minnesota, obviously Linderbaum from Baltimore. We're going to
- 42:16Speaker 3: sign a Kobe Dean on defense. We're going to, and
- 42:18Speaker 3: we have the 14th pick and all of a sudden
- 42:21Speaker 3: new coach you like, 60% of your offensive line. You
- 42:25Speaker 3: got your tight end. You got your running back. You're
- 42:26Speaker 3: bringing in a quarterback. Like, this blows up their whole plan. Like,
- 42:29Speaker 3: who does Max Crosby play for this year? We just
- 42:33Speaker 3: know it ain't the Raiders. Say again?
- 42:35Speaker 2: We just know it ain't the Raiders.
- 42:38Speaker 3: It seems impossible for him to go back. But if
- 42:40Speaker 3: you're going to trade Max Crosby for two firsts, and
- 42:44Speaker 3: one of those firsts is the 14th pick in the draft, like,
- 42:46Speaker 3: that is a premium draft asset.
- 42:48Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 42:49Speaker 2: They ain't getting that.
- 42:50Speaker 3: No, no, no. But, like, bargain, like, Is he going
- 42:53Speaker 3: for a second round pick now?
- 42:56Speaker 1: I think like maybe like a one and a three.
- 42:59Speaker 3: Okay. I mean, I guess, but if he go, if
- 43:04Speaker 3: he gets traded for a premium hall like that, which
- 43:07Speaker 3: is still a lot of draft capital and the other
- 43:11Speaker 3: team has no problem passing him on his physical, I
- 43:15Speaker 3: just don't know how the Ravens come out. Like they're
- 43:19Speaker 3: going to have some tough questions to answer, man. They're
- 43:21Speaker 3: going to have, they're going to have some good, like, Again,
- 43:23Speaker 3: he should not be, he is not cleared to play football.
- 43:28Speaker 3: You traded for a player who is off crutches, who
- 43:30Speaker 3: is off surgery, who should not be able to play.
- 43:33Speaker 3: How can you fail him on his physical? You can't
- 43:35Speaker 3: be like, well, he couldn't run the 40 or he
- 43:37Speaker 3: couldn't do the three cone drill. Like he's recovering from surgery.
- 43:41Speaker 3: His surgeon says he's good to go. What are we
- 43:43Speaker 3: talking about here? That's very weird to me, man.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Yeah, boy, there's nothing like when people just thank you, Chanky. Yeah.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Ain't nobody going to try to talk to you to
- 43:54Speaker 1: come by next year.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:56Speaker 3: And listen, again, you're right. You have to operate in
- 43:58Speaker 3: your own self-interest. But that is that is dirty pool, man. No, no.
- 44:02Speaker 1: There's nothing quite like, though, when you understand something might
- 44:05Speaker 1: be dirty pool and you're like.
- 44:08Speaker 2: But I do it.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Yeah. You got to make the.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Call and you're like, hey, so about that. Yeah, no. Yeah. Hey, hey.
- 44:22Speaker 3: You're making some fair points.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:24Speaker 1: You're making it worse, man. You know, like, hey, just
- 44:27Speaker 1: let me finish. Just let me finish, and then you
- 44:31Speaker 1: can say whatever you want.
- 44:33Speaker 3: And then I will listen.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 44:35Speaker 3: And then we'll hang up the phone, and I don't
- 44:36Speaker 3: expect for us to talk again for a long time. Yeah,
- 44:38Speaker 3: it'd be a whole lot. Are you right? You're right.
- 44:40Speaker 3: That's fair.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:42Speaker 3: No, no.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I hear you.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Yeah, man.
- 44:43Speaker 3: No, that's a good point.
- 44:46Speaker 1: Look, nobody's saying you're wrong here. I understand where you're
- 44:51Speaker 1: coming from. I would feel the exact same way. I
- 44:55Speaker 1: just had to do it. Hopefully one day you'll understand.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Sometimes it's got to be like that sometimes.
- 45:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:01Speaker 3: You know how it is.
- 45:07Speaker 5: Oh, my goodness gracious.
- 45:09Speaker 2: We were talking about this the other day.
- 45:11Speaker 1: It's going to be such an interesting NFL season because
- 45:14Speaker 1: it's wide open.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Everything everywhere feels wide open. Like even, and you think about.
- 45:19Speaker 1: The NFC on one hand, Superbowl champions loaded on the
- 45:23Speaker 1: other hand, the quarterback, Sam Donald's still on the board.
- 45:25Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 45:26Speaker 3: Yeah. Um, You know, I got one more for you.
- 45:30Speaker 3: How about, what would come up for Trey Hendrickson?
- 45:32Speaker 2: Yes!
- 45:33Speaker 3: Trey Hendrickson gets to stay in the AFC North and
- 45:39Speaker 3: stick it to Cincinnati, who he feels like have, like, underpaid.
- 45:44Speaker 3: So all I have to do is have more sacks
- 45:47Speaker 3: over the last three years than, like, micah parsons and
- 45:50Speaker 3: aiden hutchinson and you cheap bastards are only willing to
- 45:54Speaker 3: pay me a year at a time yes and like
- 45:56Speaker 3: a crown jewel until this organization in the league decided
- 46:01Speaker 3: at 30 whatever years old 31 32 years old i
- 46:04Speaker 3: was worth 112 million dollars like he is going to
- 46:07Speaker 3: do he is gonna his 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty
- 46:11Speaker 3: when he sacks joe burrow is going to be earned look.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Man he was like i've been I've been playing for
- 46:19Speaker 1: the Spirit Airlines of the NFL.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Right now, this is what a real airline feels like, huh?
- 46:26Speaker 2: Ain't that something?
- 46:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. So, sorry, I just had to get one
- 46:31Speaker 3: more off there. But no, to the wide open point,
- 46:34Speaker 3: I think one of the cool things about this upcoming season,
- 46:37Speaker 3: and it's the NFL, there's always a million great storylines,
- 46:39Speaker 3: but as we sit here in the second week of March,
- 46:45Speaker 3: a lot of teams are all in. Like, Baltimore doing
- 46:50Speaker 3: this is like an all-in move. Buffalo doing the DJ
- 46:55Speaker 3: Moore thing is a let's-push-our-chips-in move. The Rams just– they've
- 47:01Speaker 3: made one first-round draft pick in the last, like, literally
- 47:05Speaker 3: eight drafts. Yeah. Hit it out of the park with
- 47:07Speaker 3: the Jared Verse pick, but they're like, oh, we need
- 47:08Speaker 3: to rebuild our secondary? No problem. We'll do that in
- 47:13Speaker 3: one offseason. Trade first-round pick. Biggest contract ever for a cornerback.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Sign a couple more DBs. Got a 38-year-old quarterback, so
- 47:21Speaker 3: F it. Let's go all in. The Steelers, it looks like,
- 47:24Speaker 3: are going to run it back with Rodgers, which is ridiculous,
- 47:26Speaker 3: but whatever. It's just a lot of teams that are
- 47:30Speaker 3: pushing chips into the middle to go try to win
- 47:33Speaker 3: this Super Bowl because Lamar's never been to one. Josh
- 47:37Speaker 3: has never been to one. stafford's year to year so
- 47:40Speaker 3: i think that component of it and those are three
- 47:42Speaker 3: of the the rams are the favorite and the ravens
- 47:45Speaker 3: and the bills are the two favorite the two of
- 47:47Speaker 3: the top five favorites of the super the the biggest
- 47:49Speaker 3: super bowl favorites are hemorrhaging or mortgaging a lot of
- 47:52Speaker 3: their future for this year which i think is just
- 47:55Speaker 3: always adds like a degree of uh excitement and like
- 47:59Speaker 3: it makes whichever whatever They all can't win the Super Bowl.
- 48:02Speaker 3: So whichever one loses, it makes it that much more painful.
- 48:05Speaker 1: It is also an interesting year because the quarterback draft
- 48:08Speaker 1: situation isn't really strong.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:10Speaker 1: And so we are seeing at least what feels to me,
- 48:14Speaker 1: I guess I'm operating anecdotally here, but more movement from
- 48:23Speaker 1: I quarterbacks. that aren't that easy to come by. Like
- 48:26Speaker 1: Kyler Murray, I quarterback. There ain't a lot of I
- 48:29Speaker 1: quarterbacks that are really out here, right? Like what happened
- 48:32Speaker 1: with Atlanta, wherever Kyle, like I say, I think people
- 48:34Speaker 1: should be fighting to go get Kyler Murray. Like looking
- 48:36Speaker 1: at what's available and where people are standing. If Daniel Jones,
- 48:39Speaker 1: they can get 50 million in the culture. Like you'll
- 48:41Speaker 1: have to settle for 37. There's a lot of money
- 48:44Speaker 1: out there to be made. This is like a kind
- 48:46Speaker 1: of sort of regular dude out there. Like everybody's trying something.
- 48:50Speaker 1: The dolphins are trying something.
- 48:51Speaker 2: With Malik Willis. Like everybody is giving something a go.
- 48:56Speaker 3: I will be floored if Kyler Murray isn't a Viking. Like,
- 48:59Speaker 3: that one just makes too much sense to me. J.J. McCarthy,
- 49:05Speaker 3: you know, you'll trade him and swing and a miss.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Like, I don't understand what the Cardinals are doing.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Like, what is the likelihood that the Cardinals are going
- 49:15Speaker 1: to wind up with a quarterback better than Murray?
- 49:17Speaker 3: I mean, next year, zero. Yeah. yeah yeah next year
- 49:22Speaker 3: zero and I mean you hired what Mike LaFleur you
- 49:27Speaker 3: have some nice pieces on offense um yeah I mean
- 49:32Speaker 3: I listen I They chose Jacoby Brissett over Kyler. They did.
- 49:37Speaker 3: Down the stretch of last year, and it looks like
- 49:39Speaker 3: Jacoby's going to get to run it back. Yeah.
- 49:42Speaker 2: Jacoby, he is the replacement player, right? He is the
- 49:44Speaker 2: definition of the replacement quarterback.
- 49:47Speaker 1: We talked about this on the show about Kyler going
- 49:49Speaker 1: to the Vikings, where I think that should be where
- 49:50Speaker 1: he goes. But good gracious, don't you want a quarterback
- 49:53Speaker 1: somebody likes?
- 49:56Speaker 3: Well, yeah, probably. But don't you want a quarterback that's like,
- 50:03Speaker 3: If you just give them, who cares if you like them?
- 50:06Speaker 3: If you just give them decent quarterback play.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they're Super Bowl contender.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Super Bowl contender.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Right, you're right about that.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Look, they went from a bad quarterback, a bad quarterback
- 50:15Speaker 1: that nobody likes to a good quarterback that nobody likes if.
- 50:17Speaker 2: They make the move to Murray. Right.
- 50:20Speaker 3: I'll take that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:21Speaker 2: No question. It's the move.
- 50:23Speaker 3: Like two years ago, they won 14 games with Sam Darnold.
- 50:26Speaker 3: Like Brian Flores, because of reasons- can't get a head
- 50:31Speaker 3: coaching job. So he's just there still with a top
- 50:36Speaker 3: defense in the NFL, like with, with Justin Jefferson, with
- 50:39Speaker 3: that coach, like they, they, they have to, they have
- 50:42Speaker 3: to make that.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Well, I'd say this people must really like Kevin O'Connell
- 50:45Speaker 1: because if you got Brian Flores, JJ McCarthy and Kyler Murray,
- 50:49Speaker 1: like somebody's got to like somebody in this building.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Good gracious.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. That's true.
- 50:53Speaker 2: Damn. Like, like they just, they just bottom line. It's
- 50:57Speaker 2: a bottom line oriented operation over there.
- 51:00Speaker 3: That is an excellent point.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Do you think.
- 51:04Speaker 3: And I know we've talked a little bit about Mendoza
- 51:06Speaker 3: in the past. It's all of a sudden not a
- 51:10Speaker 3: terrible situation to go to?
- 51:12Speaker 2: On one hand, you are correct. On the other hand,
- 51:17Speaker 2: it's still the Raiders.
- 51:19Speaker 3: Still the Raiders.
- 51:19Speaker 2: And it's a lot of weird stuff going on over
- 51:22Speaker 2: there still.
- 51:25Speaker 3: No doubt. But all of a sudden, it's like, okay...
- 51:28Speaker 3: You just signed, you know, top two or three center
- 51:32Speaker 3: in football. Got a good left tackle. Got one good guard.
- 51:37Speaker 3: Got a good running back. Got a good tight end.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Got an offensive– Got an excellent tight end.
- 51:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, best tight end in football. Got an
- 51:46Speaker 3: offensive head coach who's a play caller who just did
- 51:49Speaker 3: his thing with Darnold. Like, the team's not going to
- 51:53Speaker 3: be good– But the goal is if you're going to
- 51:57Speaker 3: draft a quarterback number one overall and play him immediately,
- 52:00Speaker 3: that you have to at least be putting him into
- 52:02Speaker 3: a situation where you can get a fair evaluation of him.
- 52:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:06Speaker 3: I think that offense, we've seen situations that are worse.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they can find a way to not
- 52:11Speaker 1: have to play him immediately, to be honest. I would
- 52:14Speaker 1: have kept Geno if I were in their situation, to
- 52:16Speaker 1: be honest.
- 52:16Speaker 3: That's the thing, right? After you lose Geno, I don't know... Yeah. Cousins,
- 52:22Speaker 3: I guess. I don't know. I don't know who you
- 52:25Speaker 3: play over the number one pick when he's a pro style,
- 52:30Speaker 3: you know, 22, 23 year old kid by the time
- 52:33Speaker 3: of next year comes around. Like I just, I'll be,
- 52:36Speaker 3: I think he's going to be a week one.
- 52:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:38Speaker 2: I think you're right.
- 52:39Speaker 1: I mean, they, they should be two games better just
- 52:43Speaker 1: because what they were doing last year is not what
- 52:46Speaker 1: they were doing this year. Like it was full on chaos.
- 52:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:49Speaker 3: Over there.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Now, some of the chaos is gone because Pete was
- 52:51Speaker 1: a cause of some of the chaos with his son
- 52:53Speaker 1: coaching the offensive line, the Jim Kelly situation, right? But
- 52:57Speaker 1: the other part of the chaos is Tom Brady and
- 53:00Speaker 1: Alex Guerrero and whatever they do with that operation.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Oh, it's still a story. It's still a, and you're right,
- 53:10Speaker 3: it's still the Raiders, but I just feel like Fernando
- 53:14Speaker 3: Mendoza likes his situation now Better, yes. Better than he
- 53:19Speaker 3: did when the college football season ended. Yes.
- 53:21Speaker 1: I also just want to remind people right fast about
- 53:24Speaker 1: Alex Guerrero. And Alex Guerrero is Tom Brady's medicine man.
- 53:30Speaker 2: But let us not forget this.
- 53:32Speaker 1: In 2005, Guerrero was sanctioned by the United States Federal
- 53:36Speaker 1: Trade Commission for falsely presenting himself as a doctor. and
- 53:38Speaker 1: claiming to be able to cure cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, arthritis,
- 53:43Speaker 1: and Parkinson's disease using a dietary supplement called Supreme Greens.
- 53:53Speaker 2: That's from the wiki, and that happened. That's the man
- 53:58Speaker 2: behind TB12.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Man, people will really buy into anything.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Hey, man, pliability, pliability. I guess that's what they figured out, man.
- 54:09Speaker 1: But that is Danny Parkins. Check him out. First things first,
- 54:14Speaker 1: 5 p.m. Eastern on FS1. My brother, I appreciate you.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Bo, this was fun, man.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Yeah, man, this was great.
- 54:21Speaker 1: Like I say, there are days where you just want
- 54:23Speaker 1: to feel like it's back to radio, right?
- 54:25Speaker 3: Hell yeah.
- 54:25Speaker 2: This is it.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Like, no, we don't need a seven-minute block to try
- 54:30Speaker 1: to feel this.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Nah, dog.
- 54:32Speaker 3: That was great. I'll talk to you soon, buddy.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Appreciate it, man.
