Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to the Wire to Hunt podcast, your home for
- 0:06Speaker 1: deer hunting news, stories and strategies, and now your host,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Mark Kenyon. Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast. I'm
- 0:19Speaker 1: your host, Mark kenyans episode number two eight seven, and
- 0:23Speaker 1: today I'm joined by John Dudley, host of knock On
- 0:26Speaker 1: TV and the knock On Podcast, to discuss the concept
- 0:29Speaker 1: of mastery and the work, ethic and focus required to
- 0:32Speaker 1: achieve that level of success in the world of archery
- 0:35Speaker 1: and bow hunt. It all right, welcome to the Wired
- 0:45Speaker 1: Hunt podcast, brought to you by Onyx, and today we've
- 0:48Speaker 1: got John Dudley with us. And he's a guy that
- 0:51Speaker 1: likely needs no introduction, but just in case you're not
- 0:54Speaker 1: familiar with him. He is the host of knock On
- 0:56Speaker 1: TV and the knock On Podcast. He's competed in an
- 0:59Speaker 1: uncom noble number of professional archery competitions, and he's one
- 1:03Speaker 1: of the, if not the leading expert and coach in
- 1:06Speaker 1: the modern archery world. Now, as many of you know,
- 1:09Speaker 1: the summer, we've been doing this kind of series of
- 1:11Speaker 1: episodes in which we're chatting with different elite performers across
- 1:15Speaker 1: all sorts of different fields about the rough teams and
- 1:18Speaker 1: training regiments and practices that have led them to success
- 1:21Speaker 1: and whatever it is they do, and then finding out
- 1:24Speaker 1: how that can apply to hunting. So today with John,
- 1:28Speaker 1: we're gonna take that idea and apply to archery. And
- 1:30Speaker 1: this conversation we discussed some high level concepts around the
- 1:33Speaker 1: idea of achieving mastery in a given field, and then
- 1:37Speaker 1: we hear yet another perspective on how to prepare for
- 1:39Speaker 1: high pressure situations and then finally dive deep into a
- 1:43Speaker 1: whole slew of different expert level archery questions. And uh,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I brought someone else on the show to help me
- 1:50Speaker 1: do that, because you know, I take my archer pretty seriously,
- 1:54Speaker 1: but I'm no means close to where John's at. Um
- 1:58Speaker 1: I've still got a whole lot of learning to do
- 2:00Speaker 1: as many No, I've been working through target panic issues lately,
- 2:03Speaker 1: and uh, just just kind of following actually a lot
- 2:05Speaker 1: of things that John is teaching to try to achieve that.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So to dive in deeper than even I could go,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I brought my buddy and frequent contributor Andy may on
- 2:13Speaker 1: to help me do that. And if you heard episode
- 2:15Speaker 1: two four, you know how serious Andy takes archery and
- 2:19Speaker 1: the attention to detail that applies to that pursuit. So
- 2:23Speaker 1: that thing the case, he seemed like the perfect guy
- 2:24Speaker 1: to join me and co hosting this one, and I
- 2:27Speaker 1: think he'll give us an even more unique perspective from John.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So that is the plan. In just a minute here
- 2:33Speaker 1: I'll be joined by both John Dudley and Andy May,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and we're gonna dive into a fascinating conversation that I
- 2:38Speaker 1: think can help but make all of us better archers
- 2:41Speaker 1: and hunters. All right, now, joining me and Andy is
- 2:46Speaker 1: John Dudley. Welcome back to the show. John, Thanks man.
- 2:49Speaker 1: How's it going. It's good. I think the last time
- 2:52Speaker 1: we chat on the podcast was maybe two or three
- 2:56Speaker 1: years ago. Um, so it's been a long time coming.
- 2:59Speaker 1: By making the time to do this, Yeah, you're welcome.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Time flies. I was thinking the other I was thinking
- 3:05Speaker 1: the other day for some reason, I thought I was
- 3:07Speaker 1: only doing my podcast for about a year, and then
- 3:10Speaker 1: I started going back and I thought, Okay, yeah, I
- 3:12Speaker 1: don't even want to I don't even want to know
- 3:14Speaker 1: how I blanked out that much time in my life.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I feel the same way, especially with a with a kid.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Now it's like a year passes and I have no
- 3:21Speaker 1: idea what happened to it. Um, it's easy to let
- 3:25Speaker 1: it get away from you. So, given the fact that
- 3:27Speaker 1: time is money, in time is our most valuable commodity,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I'm thinking rather than you know, the usual chit chat
- 3:36Speaker 1: beating around the bush type of stuff that sometimes happens
- 3:39Speaker 1: on podcasts, I kind of want to just jump right
- 3:41Speaker 1: into the hairy stuff. Are you are you up for that? Gem? Yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 1: that's fine. So we're doing this series UM this summer.
- 3:49Speaker 1: We're we've been talking to a whole bunch of different people,
- 3:53Speaker 1: um that are high achievers or high performers or peak
- 3:56Speaker 1: performers and in some kind of field um, and just
- 3:59Speaker 1: kind of studying all the different things that make those
- 4:02Speaker 1: people tick. So what are the practices and the habits
- 4:06Speaker 1: and the routines, what are their training regiments? Like, what's
- 4:10Speaker 1: what are these key things that make people, um, really
- 4:13Speaker 1: good at whatever it is that they do. And then
- 4:15Speaker 1: trying to figure out, you know, how can we take
- 4:17Speaker 1: stuff from those folks and apply that to what we're
- 4:19Speaker 1: doing as hunters. You are like a perfect example like this,
- 4:22Speaker 1: it seems from the outside looking at least because of
- 4:25Speaker 1: the success you've achieved on the archery side, and then
- 4:28Speaker 1: how you've applied that to bow hunting too, And with
- 4:32Speaker 1: all that being the case, on top of your own experience,
- 4:34Speaker 1: just like kind of watching you from far and listening
- 4:36Speaker 1: to podcasts and seeing different things you've done, Like you
- 4:38Speaker 1: surround yourself with a lot of people like this, whether
- 4:41Speaker 1: it's Joe Rogan or Marcus ab Orr, Cameron Haynes or
- 4:45Speaker 1: Andy Stump, whoever it is. I just feel like you've
- 4:48Speaker 1: been able to to interact with a lot of people
- 4:51Speaker 1: that have kind of achieved this like mastery of something
- 4:53Speaker 1: or another. And I'm kind of curious when you hear
- 4:55Speaker 1: that term, John mastery in your context, like what is
- 4:59Speaker 1: the mean to you? What does it mean to achieve
- 5:01Speaker 1: mastery of something? And then what do these people that
- 5:04Speaker 1: you know that have achieved mastery? What stands out to
- 5:07Speaker 1: you is is being consistent across all of them? Well,
- 5:10Speaker 1: definitely work ethic is the most consistent. I think. I
- 5:16Speaker 1: think people that have that they naturally gravitate to each
- 5:21Speaker 1: other as well. You know, all of these really cool
- 5:25Speaker 1: all of these really cool personalities that I've been really
- 5:29Speaker 1: fortunate to kind of continue to snow snowball with it
- 5:35Speaker 1: just it I think a lot of that continues to
- 5:37Speaker 1: snowball because of there's a really cool time right now
- 5:41Speaker 1: with social media where if you are kind of a
- 5:45Speaker 1: positive force that way, you're more exposed to other people
- 5:49Speaker 1: that that like that, and all of those people want
- 5:54Speaker 1: those kinds of people around them, and so they so
- 5:57Speaker 1: they naturally reach out. You know, I continue, he tried to.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I continually try to avoid relationships that are that are
- 6:07Speaker 1: negative or people that don't follow through with what they
- 6:11Speaker 1: tell me that they're gonna do. You know, if if
- 6:14Speaker 1: someone promises me something, it's like, I I get it.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Sometimes you forget, but there comes a point in time
- 6:20Speaker 1: where you've given him enough benefit of the doubt. And
- 6:24Speaker 1: you know, if every single time you go in their
- 6:27Speaker 1: bedroom so to speak, and you're stepping over a bunch
- 6:30Speaker 1: of dirty crap on the floor, I mean it goes
- 6:34Speaker 1: back to my first my very first roommate when I
- 6:37Speaker 1: was set to play college football. You know, his room
- 6:40Speaker 1: was a dump. Uh you know, he never did dishes,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and he was always you know, barely did laundry, and
- 6:49Speaker 1: you know what, he barely got by with grades. He
- 6:53Speaker 1: was always late to practice and just that sort of behavior.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It's it's just like it doesn't help someone who's trying
- 7:03Speaker 1: to be positive. It kind of goes back to the
- 7:05Speaker 1: very first time if anyone ever started lifting. You know,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you kind of want to have a lift or lifting
- 7:10Speaker 1: partner so you can have a spot, and all of
- 7:12Speaker 1: a sudden that guy calls you and it's like, hey,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go today, and you're like, okay, no problem.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And then the next day he's like, yeah, I'm gonna go,
- 7:19Speaker 1: but then he doesn't show up, and you just you
- 7:20Speaker 1: end up like adjusting yourself so much to try to
- 7:24Speaker 1: meet people in the middle to where it never works.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And I just really feel like if you have a
- 7:30Speaker 1: good work ethic and you're willing to just continually pound
- 7:36Speaker 1: at whatever it is you want to do, then you
- 7:39Speaker 1: need other people that help you stay on that path
- 7:44Speaker 1: and not you know, carrying carrying other people on your
- 7:48Speaker 1: path gets really hard. I mean, if you're a good friend,
- 7:52Speaker 1: you do it for people that are in need of
- 7:54Speaker 1: support at certain times and then you know, depending on
- 7:57Speaker 1: crap they're going through, But overall, you want people that
- 8:03Speaker 1: if you know, if you if you sprain your ankle
- 8:05Speaker 1: along the way and you know you've got some stuff
- 8:07Speaker 1: that's bogging you down with work. You need people that
- 8:09Speaker 1: are going to be able to pick you up and
- 8:11Speaker 1: carry it for a short period of time. But I
- 8:13Speaker 1: also don't want to be the guy that's getting carried
- 8:15Speaker 1: every day. You know. It's like that old saying that
- 8:19Speaker 1: you are the sum of the five people that you
- 8:21Speaker 1: spend the most time with, right like that that that
- 8:24Speaker 1: rubs off on you. It seems like, do you do
- 8:26Speaker 1: you think that applies even within something just like hunting,
- 8:31Speaker 1: Like if I'm a guy who really really really wants
- 8:33Speaker 1: to get better at hunting, um, I feel like lots
- 8:36Speaker 1: of times you fall into just a crowd of like
- 8:38Speaker 1: your hunting buddies because they're local or because yeah, by
- 8:41Speaker 1: circumstances became friends. Would you ever go so far as
- 8:44Speaker 1: to say, like, hey, if you really are passionate about
- 8:46Speaker 1: trying and take your hunt into the next level, you
- 8:48Speaker 1: should actually like proactively seek out ways to kind of
- 8:52Speaker 1: grow a higher um um, what's the right word? Just
- 8:56Speaker 1: a group of people that will push you even further
- 8:58Speaker 1: even in something like hunting, No question, I mean, no question,
- 9:02Speaker 1: it's a it's a timeless thing. You know, if I
- 9:05Speaker 1: still wanted to hang out with my high school friends.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'd probably still be you know, walking around Johnsburg talking about,
- 9:13Speaker 1: you know, when we won the game against Round Lake
- 9:16Speaker 1: in the last two minutes. You know, I mean to
- 9:18Speaker 1: be like, but you kind of have to get out
- 9:20Speaker 1: of that. And honestly, I've had I've had guys that
- 9:25Speaker 1: that I was friends with, that I did you know,
- 9:28Speaker 1: videos with, or was in production with, that were really
- 9:32Speaker 1: passionate about hunting. But there's just a difference between the
- 9:35Speaker 1: guys that they go out, they want to party. You know,
- 9:40Speaker 1: they might be all gung ho about it the first night,
- 9:43Speaker 1: but then they stay up and drink too late. Then
- 9:46Speaker 1: they by the third day they can't get up. And
- 9:48Speaker 1: you know guys that uh, I don't know. I've been
- 9:52Speaker 1: on remote, remote islands with people on a hunt where
- 9:56Speaker 1: I'm tagged out, my tags punched and they're the only
- 10:00Speaker 1: one with the tag. I'm staying there to help them
- 10:04Speaker 1: and they're not wanting to get out of bed at
- 10:05Speaker 1: sunrise or just like, let me know, if you see
- 10:07Speaker 1: something it's like no, this isn't like yeah, I'll do it.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna do it for the next three
- 10:13Speaker 1: days that I'm here. But that's gonna be the last
- 10:15Speaker 1: time I do it. You know, Um, you have to
- 10:18Speaker 1: be willing to step out of those groups if you
- 10:20Speaker 1: don't see that that group's going in a positive direction.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And it's really really hard, honestly. You know, that's why
- 10:27Speaker 1: so many businesses, um fail because people go into business
- 10:34Speaker 1: with someone that's a really good friend and it's very
- 10:37Speaker 1: rare that both friends have the same work ethic. And
- 10:42Speaker 1: I've had way more endeavors fail because I tried to
- 10:47Speaker 1: bring someone else on with me versus saying, you know, hey,
- 10:51Speaker 1: I've got this cool idea. I'm just gonna freaking do it.
- 10:54Speaker 1: It's gonna be cool, and I'll just make my friends
- 10:56Speaker 1: part of it. You know, if they want to be
- 10:58Speaker 1: part of it, they can be part of it. But
- 10:59Speaker 1: the only way it's gonna work is is if I
- 11:02Speaker 1: make it work. And I think you know, you have
- 11:06Speaker 1: to be able to just rely on your rely on
- 11:09Speaker 1: your own work ethic through that stuff. Yeah, when you
- 11:13Speaker 1: when you talk about work ethic, UM, I think it's
- 11:18Speaker 1: really easy to think about the ways that applies to
- 11:21Speaker 1: stuff like your business, or how it applies to staying
- 11:24Speaker 1: physically fit. UM. When it comes to you know, let's
- 11:30Speaker 1: say archery. This is one of those things that the
- 11:32Speaker 1: average guy or girl like, that's a hunter out there, right,
- 11:34Speaker 1: They see that as you know, a prerect meal, get
- 11:38Speaker 1: out and go hunt. But then there's someone who takes
- 11:40Speaker 1: it to the next level where that work ethic becomes um.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I don't know if you want to call it an obsession,
- 11:45Speaker 1: but it goes from just like understanding a basic level
- 11:48Speaker 1: of proficiency to then like trying to achieve again like
- 11:50Speaker 1: that mastery thing when it comes to applying that to archery.
- 11:53Speaker 1: For you, when you shifted from whenever it was a
- 11:57Speaker 1: long long time ago, when you went from just enjoying
- 11:59Speaker 1: shooting art for you to then realize and this is
- 12:01Speaker 1: the thing that you wanted to master. Was there like
- 12:03Speaker 1: any kind of flip you switched um in inside your mind?
- 12:06Speaker 1: It was just something that really changed for you when
- 12:08Speaker 1: you realize this is not something you just wanted fun with,
- 12:10Speaker 1: it's something that you really wanted to um become elite.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Like what was the big change inside of you when
- 12:16Speaker 1: he made that switch. The change for me on anything
- 12:19Speaker 1: that I just saw a sudden get fanatic about is
- 12:23Speaker 1: it's things that I'm not good at. You know, I
- 12:26Speaker 1: have a hard time. I have a hard time walking
- 12:29Speaker 1: away from something. If I suck at it, you know
- 12:32Speaker 1: I need to at least figure it out where in
- 12:35Speaker 1: my own mind, I'm content with how I left. And
- 12:40Speaker 1: archery is that's how it started for me. I sucked
- 12:43Speaker 1: at it. The only reason I competed was because the
- 12:46Speaker 1: first tournament I went to I couldn't even finish. I
- 12:49Speaker 1: lost all my arrows before I was halfway through that
- 12:52Speaker 1: first three D shoot, and you know I left there
- 12:56Speaker 1: piste off. I wasn't probably fun to be around. And
- 12:59Speaker 1: I went to a Gander mountain and bought another dozen
- 13:02Speaker 1: arrows that didn't even have money for so I could
- 13:05Speaker 1: go back and just finished until I got to the
- 13:08Speaker 1: fort target. And then the next day I was in
- 13:11Speaker 1: an archery shop just saying, Okay, what do I have
- 13:14Speaker 1: to do? So I never get embarrassed like that again.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And with hunting, it's the same thing. I'm fanatic about
- 13:22Speaker 1: hunting and it And if you've ever heard any of
- 13:25Speaker 1: my friends talk about me, now, I know that I
- 13:29Speaker 1: kind of feel that way. I guess I don't recognize
- 13:32Speaker 1: kind of I don't know the vibes that i've that
- 13:35Speaker 1: I put off. But when animals trick me, or when
- 13:40Speaker 1: I feel like I'm in a position where I've like
- 13:43Speaker 1: outsmarted everything and then all of a sudden, they like
- 13:45Speaker 1: pull this wild card out on me and I get
- 13:48Speaker 1: beat or I eat a tag. I'm there the next year,
- 13:52Speaker 1: like it. It really bothers me. It's seriously, you know,
- 13:57Speaker 1: I'm I keep thinking about my last trip to France
- 14:01Speaker 1: when I was hunting uh chamois in the in the
- 14:05Speaker 1: Alps because the conditions really sucked. Um. We had like
- 14:12Speaker 1: melting snow, then ice, then freezing snow. We had three
- 14:16Speaker 1: guys up there trying to chase these things. It was
- 14:19Speaker 1: so loud, you know. The closest I ever got to
- 14:22Speaker 1: one was like a hundred and six yards, and I
- 14:25Speaker 1: feel like the fact that I was defeated that bad.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I want to go back, not necessarily because I think
- 14:32Speaker 1: his sham sham was cool, because they're kind of dinky
- 14:35Speaker 1: once I started looking at them. But it's like I
- 14:37Speaker 1: just want to be able to say, you know, I
- 14:40Speaker 1: completed the task and I evolved enough to make myself better.
- 14:44Speaker 1: And that's really what I What triggers anything for me
- 14:48Speaker 1: is if I'm not good at it, I just I
- 14:51Speaker 1: just really have to put in the time and put
- 14:54Speaker 1: in the work to do it, and honestly, things that
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm not good at, I it's my best motivation for
- 15:04Speaker 1: for just continuing to try and do it. Andy, I
- 15:07Speaker 1: feel like a lot of what John's here saying is
- 15:10Speaker 1: very in line with what you and we were talking
- 15:12Speaker 1: about just a couple of weeks ago, right, with just
- 15:14Speaker 1: that obsession with trying to find the little inches of
- 15:16Speaker 1: ways you can get better or something that stumped you
- 15:18Speaker 1: at once, right, Yeah, Yeah, I see, I'm hearing a
- 15:21Speaker 1: lot of similarities. Um, John, I was talking to like,
- 15:25Speaker 1: you know, when I when I fail on a bow hunt,
- 15:28Speaker 1: right or I miss an animal or something that it
- 15:30Speaker 1: it affects me, um so powerfully that I obsess about
- 15:37Speaker 1: that mistake, um, you know, for for months and months
- 15:43Speaker 1: and months, and then I try to do you know,
- 15:47Speaker 1: try to analyze that mistake, find out what I did wrong,
- 15:50Speaker 1: and then take the steps to improve upon that so
- 15:53Speaker 1: that it doesn't happen again. And I think that kind
- 15:56Speaker 1: of goes along, you know, like with what you said,
- 15:59Speaker 1: you know, just uh, you know, maybe something that you
- 16:02Speaker 1: didn't perform, uh, you know as well as you had hoped,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and you just kind of fixate on that, and you
- 16:10Speaker 1: work at it, you know, at nauseum, to the point
- 16:13Speaker 1: where now it's become a non issue. Now it's actually
- 16:16Speaker 1: a strength. Is there ever a point where that because
- 16:20Speaker 1: I'm the same way too in a lot of ways, um,
- 16:23Speaker 1: but is there ever a point where that focus on
- 16:26Speaker 1: like the little thing you did wrong, that that can
- 16:29Speaker 1: go too far, that that obsession can go too far,
- 16:31Speaker 1: like how do you how do you john keep that
- 16:34Speaker 1: from getting too negative? Um? And instead use that as
- 16:38Speaker 1: a possible kind of jumping off point for getting better. Well,
- 16:42Speaker 1: there's a saying that I tell my students, or it's
- 16:45Speaker 1: one that I was taught years and years ago, and
- 16:49Speaker 1: I had I heard it, but I didn't really understand it,
- 16:52Speaker 1: but it grew on me. And even after, you know,
- 16:57Speaker 1: thirty years since I heard it, I still practice of
- 17:00Speaker 1: sit but you know it goes Um, remember the past,
- 17:04Speaker 1: prepare for the future, but play in the present. And
- 17:09Speaker 1: that's what I do. I try to remember the past,
- 17:11Speaker 1: but I definitely don't have regrets on the past. I
- 17:14Speaker 1: just remember it and I let it. I let it
- 17:17Speaker 1: affect what I'm preparing for in the present. And um,
- 17:23Speaker 1: you know, I think, Um, you know, I just I
- 17:28Speaker 1: just learned from it. It definitely makes me feel competitive.
- 17:33Speaker 1: There's a competitive side of me that makes me, you know,
- 17:36Speaker 1: not want to do it again. But I don't. I
- 17:40Speaker 1: don't let it um. I don't let it drag me down.
- 17:44Speaker 1: There's for the longest time when I was competing, my
- 17:48Speaker 1: biggest downside was when I would make a shot. And
- 17:54Speaker 1: this was a lot more of the more of a
- 17:56Speaker 1: problem when I shot three D archery, because I started
- 18:00Speaker 1: it as a competitive three D shooters, so I started
- 18:02Speaker 1: on unknown yardages, so I would feel like I knew
- 18:08Speaker 1: the yardage to the target, I had set my sight,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and I really feel like I made I executed a
- 18:13Speaker 1: very good shot, and then the arrow would land in
- 18:17Speaker 1: an eight ring instead of a twelve. And it was
- 18:19Speaker 1: really frustrating too, because you know, I was there to
- 18:24Speaker 1: shoot a bow, but even when I made a perfect shot,
- 18:27Speaker 1: I was being penalized because I wasn't able to judge
- 18:30Speaker 1: perfectly and I had a really hard time with it,
- 18:34Speaker 1: and I was, you know, I broke a lot of stabilizers,
- 18:38Speaker 1: just stabbing them into the ground, and you know, there
- 18:43Speaker 1: was you know, there I was. And honestly, a big
- 18:46Speaker 1: part of it was when I started competing. I I
- 18:49Speaker 1: came off a football field, and when I played football,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I played on both sides of the ball. So if
- 18:55Speaker 1: I did something wrong as a quarterback, if I threw
- 18:58Speaker 1: an interception, I could just freaking hit someone, you know,
- 19:02Speaker 1: like the you know, the next play and yeah, And honestly,
- 19:07Speaker 1: it was like it was like a relief. So then
- 19:10Speaker 1: in archery, when you're just shooting this arrow and it
- 19:12Speaker 1: hits a phone target, like and you do something really bad,
- 19:15Speaker 1: I didn't really know how to how to have like
- 19:19Speaker 1: a pressure valve, so my pressure valve would just be
- 19:22Speaker 1: like stabbing my stabilizer in the ground, or you know.
- 19:26Speaker 1: There was There was one time I was one arrow
- 19:30Speaker 1: away from shooting a perfect three sixty at seventy meters
- 19:34Speaker 1: at my h at my house in Wisconsin, and I
- 19:37Speaker 1: remember standing, I was shooting seventy meters and I had
- 19:40Speaker 1: one arrow left, and I looked down the spotting scope
- 19:42Speaker 1: and there were all I needed was one ten and
- 19:45Speaker 1: I would have shot a perfect three sixty at seventy ms,
- 19:47Speaker 1: which for me at the time I was in like
- 19:50Speaker 1: my early stages of shooting with the teams. I really
- 19:54Speaker 1: wanted that because I wanted to be able to say
- 19:57Speaker 1: that I had shot a clean seventy mem around, which
- 19:59Speaker 1: I know would be very rare. And when I shot
- 20:02Speaker 1: at nine, I just like did this hammer toss with
- 20:06Speaker 1: my bow and just launched this thing almost to the
- 20:10Speaker 1: target and it landed in the ditch and I left
- 20:14Speaker 1: it there. I mean, I was so piste off that
- 20:17Speaker 1: I left it down there. And I remember one of
- 20:20Speaker 1: my friends came over and he's like, hey, dude, there's
- 20:23Speaker 1: a whole bow down in the ditch down there, and
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, you can have it if you want it.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And I remember um being at a tournament not soon
- 20:33Speaker 1: after that, and I made this shot I shot at nine.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I got really piste. I mean I was like on fire.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And I remember um Tim Strickland walked over to me,
- 20:45Speaker 1: who Tim at the time was coaching a lot of
- 20:48Speaker 1: Olympic recurve shooters. Tim walked over to me and he goes,
- 20:52Speaker 1: you know, until you learn that that arrow that left
- 20:55Speaker 1: your bow, you have no longer you no longer have
- 20:58Speaker 1: control on it. He's like, until you learn that, you
- 21:01Speaker 1: will never grow as an archer. He looked at me,
- 21:04Speaker 1: he said, the only thing you have control over right
- 21:06Speaker 1: now is those errors in that quiver, and he turned
- 21:09Speaker 1: and walked away, and I and it it just sunk
- 21:13Speaker 1: in and I'm like, you know what, ship, Yeah, no
- 21:15Speaker 1: matter what I do, I can't pull that arrow back.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Like it's history. It's it's gone. I can't change it.
- 21:22Speaker 1: So then it got to the point where I started
- 21:25Speaker 1: to find humor in that. You know, there's been times
- 21:27Speaker 1: at Vegas where people have kind of looked at me like, hey, man,
- 21:30Speaker 1: shut up, you're talking too loud. But I've literally said, like, hey, guys,
- 21:36Speaker 1: do any of you want to freaking shoot the tin
- 21:37Speaker 1: because the last asshole wanted to shoot a nine um,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you know. And it it changed my output, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 1: my how I looked at my mistakes changed my output.
- 21:49Speaker 1: So it's a it's a fine line. Some people learn
- 21:54Speaker 1: some people learn better from being really mad and like
- 21:57Speaker 1: being hard on themselves and then people And for me,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I am hard on myself because I will train hard
- 22:04Speaker 1: enough to not make the mistake again, but I also
- 22:07Speaker 1: don't let the mistake affect the effect the time that
- 22:11Speaker 1: hasn't even happened yet. Yeah, I feel like so much
- 22:15Speaker 1: of this, so much of archery, whether it be just
- 22:17Speaker 1: competitive or preparing for bow hunting, it's such a mental thing. Like,
- 22:22Speaker 1: of course it's a huge physical component to it, but
- 22:25Speaker 1: a lot happens between your ears. Um, and I remember
- 22:28Speaker 1: hearing you talk once UM about I don't know how
- 22:33Speaker 1: and I don't know to degree you take this, but um,
- 22:36Speaker 1: ideas around meditation or things that can kind of reset
- 22:39Speaker 1: your mind just a little bit to refocus or to
- 22:41Speaker 1: deal with something went wrong. UM. You talked once about
- 22:45Speaker 1: like spinning um, some beads or something on a bracelet,
- 22:48Speaker 1: I think, to help kind of recenter yourself before taking
- 22:50Speaker 1: the next shot. Um. Are there any things like that
- 22:53Speaker 1: that you still do now to either clear your head
- 22:56Speaker 1: before a big shot competitively or in the tree stand,
- 23:00Speaker 1: or or any other things on the mental side that
- 23:02Speaker 1: have helped you become a better archer and bull hunter. Um. Yeah, meditation,
- 23:07Speaker 1: certainly it's important. And one of the things that's important
- 23:11Speaker 1: from a meditative side is that you can learn to
- 23:14Speaker 1: control your heart rate, so um, or you can you
- 23:17Speaker 1: can help maintain it and lower it if you really
- 23:21Speaker 1: need to. So if you're in a pressure situation, just
- 23:24Speaker 1: learning how to like breathe and focus on breathing. Essentially,
- 23:28Speaker 1: what you're doing is you're retriggering your conscious thought process
- 23:32Speaker 1: so that it's not actively thinking about a fight or
- 23:34Speaker 1: flight syndrome. It's uh, you're trying to re kind of
- 23:39Speaker 1: reset your conscious to where it's only occupied by the
- 23:43Speaker 1: actual physical process of breathing. And then it will help you, UM,
- 23:49Speaker 1: it will help naturally lower that heart rate because you're
- 23:52Speaker 1: not dumping adrenaline still. You know, it's when you it's
- 23:56Speaker 1: when you intently think about, like, this is the bigas
- 24:00Speaker 1: buck I'll have ever shot. What are all my friends
- 24:02Speaker 1: gonna think when I show them this um or some
- 24:05Speaker 1: people are like, oh my god, he's so big. I
- 24:08Speaker 1: don't want to miss this thing, you know, And it's
- 24:10Speaker 1: like those are those are keywords that that can certainly
- 24:14Speaker 1: trigger UM the conscious to to go into that fight
- 24:19Speaker 1: or flight state. And when that happens, then your heart
- 24:21Speaker 1: rates accelerated, your breathing gets heavier. You know, you kind
- 24:26Speaker 1: of put yourself in a poor position for UM having
- 24:31Speaker 1: a positive outcome. I feel like for me when I
- 24:37Speaker 1: had like I had a bracelet that had little pieces
- 24:40Speaker 1: of carbon arrows on it, and they were all they
- 24:44Speaker 1: were all pieces of arrows off metals that are off
- 24:48Speaker 1: arrows that I had, like won medals with so to speak.
- 24:51Speaker 1: So to me, they had meanings, so I would just
- 24:54Speaker 1: focus on shifting those things all the way around. And um.
- 24:57Speaker 1: For a lot of people that that do meditate ation,
- 25:01Speaker 1: you know, they actually have like meditative like be bands
- 25:04Speaker 1: for the risk where they're they're kind of just actively
- 25:08Speaker 1: thinking about moving that bead from one position to another position,
- 25:12Speaker 1: from one position to another position. And what they're trying
- 25:15Speaker 1: to do is just reset the conscious focus on the
- 25:18Speaker 1: breathing and bringing into play. Guys that struggle with um,
- 25:24Speaker 1: guys that struggle with target panic or buck fever. These
- 25:29Speaker 1: are a lot of times it's people that one have
- 25:32Speaker 1: never learned some of these small tricks that do for
- 25:36Speaker 1: sure help you, Um, they do help you stabilize, but
- 25:43Speaker 1: they also help you be able to somewhat tolerate that feeling.
- 25:50Speaker 1: And if you haven't felt it, it feels way way
- 25:56Speaker 1: UM it's like overtaking. You almost feel like there's just
- 25:59Speaker 1: no way you can get it done. And then as
- 26:01Speaker 1: soon as you let that arrow go, even if you
- 26:03Speaker 1: see it missing, there's this huge like rush of like, oh,
- 26:07Speaker 1: thank God, I got rid of that arrow. You know,
- 26:09Speaker 1: and I've been there, you know, I've been in those situations.
- 26:12Speaker 1: It's it's a terrible place to be in. Um. But
- 26:16Speaker 1: you have to you have to do two things to
- 26:19Speaker 1: get out of those situations. One, you have to be
- 26:22Speaker 1: able to recognize when it's happening and know some of
- 26:26Speaker 1: these little things to try to reset it where you're
- 26:29Speaker 1: focusing on your process again and you're not focusing on
- 26:32Speaker 1: the prize. UM. And then the second thing is acclamation.
- 26:38Speaker 1: You know, being in those moments to where your intensity
- 26:42Speaker 1: is high and you're you're kind of putting yourself in
- 26:47Speaker 1: these like game day type situations. More often it just
- 26:52Speaker 1: gets the be to the point where it's not scary.
- 26:55Speaker 1: You know, it's it was scary the first time I
- 26:56Speaker 1: got behind the wheel of a car. I mean the
- 26:58Speaker 1: first time I ever got on a dirt, Like, I
- 27:00Speaker 1: was scared. When someone's like, okay, you gotta do like
- 27:03Speaker 1: one down, four up, and I'm like, what the hell
- 27:05Speaker 1: does that mean? Um. So, but the more you do it,
- 27:09Speaker 1: all of a sudden you just realize, okay, you know,
- 27:11Speaker 1: I just jump on this thing and go. The subconscious
- 27:14Speaker 1: is like doing all of it consciously, you're just thinking
- 27:17Speaker 1: about the having fun part. So you have to be
- 27:20Speaker 1: able to acclimate yourself. And I think that's a big
- 27:22Speaker 1: reason why events like the Total Archery Challenge are really
- 27:27Speaker 1: important for people that are also trying to get more
- 27:30Speaker 1: involved with hunting, because you know, you get in these
- 27:33Speaker 1: situations where you're shooting with a larger group, Um, people
- 27:38Speaker 1: are all watching with their binoculars. You know, you're not
- 27:41Speaker 1: wanting to essentially, you're wanting to put on a good
- 27:45Speaker 1: performance in front of people. Um. When that happens, you
- 27:50Speaker 1: feel nervous naturally, But the more you do it, you'll
- 27:53Speaker 1: acclimate to it. So I really feel like a big
- 27:56Speaker 1: part of this is just continually working hard to um,
- 28:03Speaker 1: to like feel that pressure and be in some of
- 28:07Speaker 1: those situations, and your performance overall will just continually get
- 28:10Speaker 1: better because you've been there. Yeah. Andy, I know that
- 28:15Speaker 1: you've you've been in some of these situations that John's
- 28:19Speaker 1: talking about here. Um, we've talked about you and me,
- 28:22Speaker 1: but I know you had some some questions for John
- 28:24Speaker 1: right around this topic. Um, any of those come to mind? Yeah, Um, well, John,
- 28:31Speaker 1: going off what you were just talking about, and UM
- 28:36Speaker 1: trying to you know, kind of focus on the process
- 28:39Speaker 1: and keep you know, I guess anxiety I always described
- 28:44Speaker 1: as trying to keep the anxiety low by focusing on
- 28:46Speaker 1: the process. Um. You know in your teachings, you know,
- 28:50Speaker 1: you you promote uh, you know kind of that that
- 28:53Speaker 1: back tension pulled through unanticipated UM style of release, UM,
- 28:59Speaker 1: which I've adopted, UM and it's been a huge help
- 29:03Speaker 1: for me. But what I what I found, UM, is
- 29:09Speaker 1: that style of shooting as opposed to like the you know,
- 29:13Speaker 1: the command style. UM. You know that that often leads
- 29:17Speaker 1: to you know, some target panic and trigger punching, that
- 29:20Speaker 1: sort of thing. It will always lead to it. Yeah,
- 29:24Speaker 1: and just call it punching because whoever you know, I
- 29:27Speaker 1: know Tim Gillingham likes to call a command style. But
- 29:30Speaker 1: I'm just gonna tell you it's it's a you know,
- 29:34Speaker 1: I can call people someone who like, you know, they
- 29:37Speaker 1: they have command beer drinking habits, but in the end
- 29:41Speaker 1: they're just drunks. Yeah yeah. So UM, but what I
- 29:49Speaker 1: found is like this this unanticipated style of shooting. It's
- 29:52Speaker 1: it's a very relaxing way to shoot. Like. UM. So
- 29:57Speaker 1: I always go back to my story. You know, I
- 30:00Speaker 1: I've been both hunting a long time and I had
- 30:02Speaker 1: a lot of success, and I was always a trigger puncher,
- 30:05Speaker 1: and I did okay. Um, you know, I I made
- 30:09Speaker 1: some good shots. I made some bad shots. UM wounded
- 30:13Speaker 1: some you know animals. But I obviously, you know, after
- 30:18Speaker 1: um you know, studying your ways, I wasn't in control
- 30:21Speaker 1: and I adopted you know, your teachings and put in
- 30:26Speaker 1: the work, and now I shoot an unanticipated release and
- 30:30Speaker 1: I've just found that I'm just so much more relaxed
- 30:33Speaker 1: in the shot. Not only you know, at things like
- 30:36Speaker 1: the Total Archery Challenge what I also participated, but like
- 30:39Speaker 1: in that hunting scenario with that big buck standing there,
- 30:42Speaker 1: like I I'm adrenaline is high, I'm excited, But it's
- 30:48Speaker 1: that that style of shooting for me is just it's
- 30:50Speaker 1: such a relaxing thing because I'm just focusing on um,
- 30:55Speaker 1: you know that pull through motion or um, you know,
- 30:59Speaker 1: focusing and just letting my pin flow. UM. Do you
- 31:03Speaker 1: agree with that? Is that? Yeah? Well, I mean I
- 31:08Speaker 1: think it's really important that people get to the conclusion
- 31:13Speaker 1: that in order to gain control, you have to first
- 31:17Speaker 1: lose it. And you know you lose you feel like
- 31:20Speaker 1: you're losing the control when you really start training to
- 31:25Speaker 1: get a surprise shot, you feel like you you feel
- 31:29Speaker 1: like you have to know when that's gonna go off.
- 31:31Speaker 1: But the reality is you are so much more stress
- 31:35Speaker 1: free when you don't know when it goes off, but
- 31:39Speaker 1: you do know where it's gonna go. You know. There
- 31:42Speaker 1: there's this transition of yeah, you're nervous about something new,
- 31:46Speaker 1: I get it, and there's some you know, Honestly, it
- 31:50Speaker 1: used to be way harder to find that, And the
- 31:53Speaker 1: reason why is because years ago people didn't know proper technique.
- 31:58Speaker 1: So when they would try to shoot attention activated release
- 32:01Speaker 1: or HNE release and their postures completely incorrect, or they
- 32:05Speaker 1: don't know how to anchor properly. They a lot of
- 32:10Speaker 1: other variables were happening at the same time, and they
- 32:13Speaker 1: weren't sure of where things were going to go. But
- 32:17Speaker 1: you know, the thing that I take the most pride
- 32:20Speaker 1: in right now is when I open up all of
- 32:25Speaker 1: our hashtags like knock On, knock on Nation School and
- 32:28Speaker 1: knock the amount of people that could literally mirror my
- 32:33Speaker 1: form that I struggled for years, uh to you know,
- 32:40Speaker 1: to kind of perfect that took like so much time
- 32:45Speaker 1: I came. It was like decades of like doing that,
- 32:49Speaker 1: and then it just got to the point where as
- 32:51Speaker 1: I taught, I just kept simplifying this down and like
- 32:54Speaker 1: boiling it down to where I could teach someone that
- 32:57Speaker 1: had never shot a bow and they dug and your
- 33:00Speaker 1: look like me in like an hour, and I'm just
- 33:02Speaker 1: looking at him like, damn it, you know, freaking wish
- 33:06Speaker 1: I could have done that. But then those same people, um,
- 33:09Speaker 1: those same people, all of a sudden just can take
- 33:13Speaker 1: over a release like that and start to focus on
- 33:17Speaker 1: this um surprise, unanticipated shot and they just they don't
- 33:22Speaker 1: even think about it. It just feels so good. And honestly,
- 33:26Speaker 1: when you're shooting good, archery is so fun. And and honestly,
- 33:31Speaker 1: when you make this switch, there's this short little window
- 33:36Speaker 1: that all of a sudden, you make this one shot
- 33:39Speaker 1: that sticks out as I've never made a shot that good.
- 33:44Speaker 1: It went off so easy, I freaking everything seemed like
- 33:47Speaker 1: in slow motion. That arrow just pounded the center. It's
- 33:51Speaker 1: like you kind of just have this standout moment of oh, yeah,
- 33:54Speaker 1: that's what everyone's been talking about. And then once you
- 33:57Speaker 1: get that and you can start to repeat that, you realize, like,
- 34:01Speaker 1: this is super fun. And then when you go out
- 34:04Speaker 1: into a hunting situation and this bowl of a lifetime
- 34:08Speaker 1: steps out and you're just sitting there thinking about your process,
- 34:12Speaker 1: and you know your your posture is good, your stance
- 34:15Speaker 1: is good, and you draw back, you anchor properly, and
- 34:18Speaker 1: you settle into that peep and the pins right there,
- 34:20Speaker 1: and yeah, you're a little nervous, but you get your
- 34:22Speaker 1: finger on that safety. You're you or off the safety,
- 34:25Speaker 1: you're on the trigger, and you're just embracing that little
- 34:28Speaker 1: bit of shake that you got from being nervous, and
- 34:30Speaker 1: you pull through and that sound breaks and you just
- 34:34Speaker 1: know you're like freaking dead, like that, you're dead, Like
- 34:38Speaker 1: I know, I don't have a question of where the
- 34:40Speaker 1: SHOT's going because I know what a good shot is now.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I mean, once someone has that feeling in a hunting situation,
- 34:49Speaker 1: it's like the best sense of accomplishment. You just realize
- 34:53Speaker 1: that you've like jumped the biggest hurdle in this entire sport.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I feel like I feel like they're are some people
- 35:01Speaker 1: that think that, you know, to get ready for hunting
- 35:05Speaker 1: season bow hunting, they pick up their bow a month
- 35:09Speaker 1: before the season, start shooting it, making sure it's still
- 35:11Speaker 1: hitting on the zero, and then they're good to go.
- 35:13Speaker 1: But to achieve what you just described, that level of
- 35:17Speaker 1: proficiency and confidence. Um, I know it takes a whole
- 35:20Speaker 1: different commitment. What how would you describe what it takes
- 35:26Speaker 1: as someone to get to that level? What kind of lifestyle?
- 35:29Speaker 1: What kind of commitment does that take? If you had
- 35:30Speaker 1: to if someone like, hey, how do I get to
- 35:32Speaker 1: this point? How would you describe what would be necessary?
- 35:35Speaker 1: Um to get to that point? Yeah? I mean like
- 35:38Speaker 1: not I'm not saying shoot their entered arrows today and
- 35:40Speaker 1: tomorrow and do this thing, this thing. More so, like
- 35:42Speaker 1: what kind of commitment or what what amount of your
- 35:46Speaker 1: life daily practice? What does it take to make that
- 35:50Speaker 1: next level jump to that point? Well, I think the
- 35:54Speaker 1: biggest commitment you're gonna have to make is not making
- 35:56Speaker 1: excuses for yourself. I mean, if you want to say, like,
- 36:00Speaker 1: you know, hey, I kind of I want to train
- 36:02Speaker 1: that way, but I'm I want to command fire when
- 36:05Speaker 1: I go hunting, well, okay, you're wasting everyone's time, you know. Uh,
- 36:10Speaker 1: do you really want to be better? Do you really
- 36:11Speaker 1: want to be different? Because if you do, then you
- 36:15Speaker 1: could easily do what I do every single year when
- 36:19Speaker 1: hunting seasons over, which is probably the time of year
- 36:22Speaker 1: where I developed the most poor habits. Or you know,
- 36:26Speaker 1: I would say my shots instead of being like on
- 36:30Speaker 1: a level nine or ten, which is what I strive
- 36:34Speaker 1: for when I'm training a lot. During the end of
- 36:37Speaker 1: hunting season, I'm probably at a six or seven. I
- 36:39Speaker 1: haven't shot very much. I've only you know, pulled arrows
- 36:42Speaker 1: back on animals or maybe check my site marks here there,
- 36:46Speaker 1: and you know, in between hunts, um. You know, I
- 36:50Speaker 1: feel like I feel like when I decided to reset,
- 36:54Speaker 1: which for me, it's always around the first December. UM.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I actually and this year I pasted it. You know.
- 37:00Speaker 1: If you go to the Knock on our True YouTube channel,
- 37:03Speaker 1: there's a series called School of Knock, it was twelve
- 37:06Speaker 1: weeks of this week, we're working on this. This week,
- 37:10Speaker 1: we work on this, this week, we work on this,
- 37:12Speaker 1: and it it just builds you to exactly what we're
- 37:16Speaker 1: talking about in essentially a twelve. For me, I'm okay
- 37:20Speaker 1: doing it low and slow. You know, there's days where
- 37:23Speaker 1: I might be able to shoot twenty eras there's days
- 37:25Speaker 1: where my goal is to shoot a hundred UM. But
- 37:28Speaker 1: I try to do that, you know, the majority of
- 37:31Speaker 1: the week, and I work on that one thing enough
- 37:35Speaker 1: to where I feel like I've embedded it and I
- 37:38Speaker 1: can move on to the next thing. There's so many people,
- 37:41Speaker 1: and I just had, um, a variable, a very reputable
- 37:45Speaker 1: person on like social media, and someone who's actually very
- 37:49Speaker 1: very training oriented, like that's his whole thing's training. You know.
- 37:55Speaker 1: He was saying like, um, you know, I want you
- 37:57Speaker 1: to build a bow for me. And I told him, well,
- 37:59Speaker 1: I'm not gonna oil to bow for you the way
- 38:00Speaker 1: you're shooting right now, because you know, it's a reflection
- 38:03Speaker 1: to me. You need to change because you're punching the
- 38:07Speaker 1: trigger doesn't look good, you know. And so he just said,
- 38:10Speaker 1: well what can I do? And I said, take this,
- 38:13Speaker 1: I spell it all out right here, focus on this,
- 38:16Speaker 1: do all of this, and then then then in the end,
- 38:18Speaker 1: you're gonna be set up in a posture and in
- 38:20Speaker 1: a in a placement where if I build you a bow,
- 38:23Speaker 1: I know it will fit you properly, because they've always
- 38:27Speaker 1: got right now doesn't even fit them properly in my opinion. So, um,
- 38:31Speaker 1: you know, one of the things he said was, well,
- 38:33Speaker 1: I don't have twelve weeks. And it's like, well, okay,
- 38:36Speaker 1: you can do it, and you can do it and
- 38:38Speaker 1: three or four, but you know you're you know the mentality.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Now there's like a lot of people that just want
- 38:44Speaker 1: to hack and some things like this, if you want
- 38:49Speaker 1: to if you want to achieve mastery, which is what
- 38:52Speaker 1: I think the theme of this program is take hack
- 38:57Speaker 1: and throw it out the window. If you're looking for
- 38:59Speaker 1: a short cut, like this isn't the place, you know,
- 39:03Speaker 1: if you're looking for a shortcut, you're gonna be like
- 39:06Speaker 1: of the other people out there that are struggling. If
- 39:09Speaker 1: you're if you're really wanting to do something to where
- 39:12Speaker 1: you're have potential to be the best at it, and
- 39:17Speaker 1: at the end of your you know, your last day hunting,
- 39:20Speaker 1: you can look back and say I did everything I
- 39:22Speaker 1: could to be the best hunter I can. Then you
- 39:25Speaker 1: need to look for where you need to look for,
- 39:26Speaker 1: like the ability to work at it, not the ability
- 39:30Speaker 1: to hack it. You know, that's what you need to
- 39:32Speaker 1: look for. Yeah, that's a great point, John Hey. Going
- 39:36Speaker 1: back to the shot execution, I had a question, UM,
- 39:40Speaker 1: So I sometimes go back and forth with this, and
- 39:44Speaker 1: I kind of wanted to get your opinion. Um, Sometimes
- 39:49Speaker 1: when I draw back and I shoot, UM, and I
- 39:52Speaker 1: can achieve an unanticipated shot either way. But sometimes I
- 39:56Speaker 1: will draw back anchor, and I focus on the pulling
- 40:02Speaker 1: through motion like you described and just letting my just
- 40:05Speaker 1: let letting the pin flow, letting my aiming be kind
- 40:07Speaker 1: of subconscious, and I can achieve that on intipate unanticipated shot.
- 40:12Speaker 1: But I can also switch it. I can actually focus
- 40:15Speaker 1: on just letting my pin flow and just keep saying,
- 40:18Speaker 1: let it float, let it float, and then my shot
- 40:20Speaker 1: execution happened subconsciously. Is there one better than the other
- 40:24Speaker 1: or is it okay if the if the result is
- 40:28Speaker 1: an unanticipated shot. Either way, yeah, the the goal is
- 40:33Speaker 1: a surprise shot, you know. And there's certain times where
- 40:39Speaker 1: if you've worked on one enough, you're not necessarily having
- 40:43Speaker 1: to think of the other, Like when I'm really in
- 40:45Speaker 1: practice and hopefully by like the end of that week
- 40:49Speaker 1: or that end of that series. And this is normally
- 40:52Speaker 1: what I do during indoor season, is kind of when
- 40:55Speaker 1: I train to to perfect my form by the last week,
- 41:00Speaker 1: all I'm doing is looking at the target. I'm just
- 41:02Speaker 1: staring a hole into the X ring. I'm not like
- 41:06Speaker 1: I'm counting through my steps in my head, you know,
- 41:09Speaker 1: I'm going through stance, grip, shoulder anchor pete, you know.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Poll I'm like going through these in my head. But
- 41:15Speaker 1: I'm not like consciously thinking about what my release hands
- 41:19Speaker 1: doing or consciously thinking about the poll. I'm just letting
- 41:24Speaker 1: the subconscious do that stuff. But that takes an extreme
- 41:27Speaker 1: amount of time. The fact that you've committed to it
- 41:30Speaker 1: and you've worked at it enough it's allowing you to
- 41:33Speaker 1: sometimes think about the poll, but other times you can
- 41:37Speaker 1: just think about the float. And honestly, if you embrace
- 41:40Speaker 1: that float, then you're not worried about being in the pocket.
- 41:45Speaker 1: You know. That's what I when I call once you
- 41:47Speaker 1: let off that safety. In between when you let off
- 41:50Speaker 1: the safety or when you start applying pressure on a trigger,
- 41:54Speaker 1: that moment between then and when that arrow goes off,
- 41:57Speaker 1: that's that's kind of the pocket. And really the only
- 42:00Speaker 1: thing that's happening during that time is you should be
- 42:04Speaker 1: building pressure for the shop to go off, and you
- 42:06Speaker 1: should also be seeing some movement in the front half
- 42:11Speaker 1: of that bow, which is gonna be what you're seeing
- 42:14Speaker 1: through your site and being able to embrace that float
- 42:18Speaker 1: and realizing that, Okay, if I have a magnifying glass
- 42:22Speaker 1: of my scope, I'm gonna see more. If it's windy out,
- 42:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna see more. If I'm tired right now and
- 42:27Speaker 1: I'm still trying to get my reps in, I'm gonna
- 42:29Speaker 1: see more. If I'm shooting up hill or downhill, I'm
- 42:32Speaker 1: gonna see more. But that's cool. I just want to
- 42:33Speaker 1: be here. Let this shop break when it is, and
- 42:36Speaker 1: I'm like totally comfortable with that. When you can make
- 42:39Speaker 1: that step and if you personally have made that step, dude,
- 42:44Speaker 1: that is a Jedi level step. It's very rare that
- 42:49Speaker 1: people get to that. And I mean, that's how I
- 42:51Speaker 1: feel when I shoot. I really could care less what
- 42:56Speaker 1: I would score in backyard practice. Honestly, I'd I don't
- 43:00Speaker 1: even care what I'd score at any of these total
- 43:03Speaker 1: archery challenges. What I do care about is that I
- 43:06Speaker 1: make good shots. And if I feel any sense of
- 43:11Speaker 1: anxiety or unease of my mind during that pocket time,
- 43:17Speaker 1: then to me, that's not a good shot. And all
- 43:21Speaker 1: I'm striving for is being up there and making good
- 43:25Speaker 1: shots and and letting, you know, letting the rest take
- 43:29Speaker 1: care of itself, because it's my opinion that it takes
- 43:33Speaker 1: care of itself way more times than not if you
- 43:37Speaker 1: just focus on that. Yeah, well, I one of the
- 43:40Speaker 1: biggest takeaways are. One of the things that you described
- 43:43Speaker 1: that was so helpful for me early on, UM was
- 43:48Speaker 1: that you strive to make a ten on your shot execution,
- 43:52Speaker 1: not necessarily hit the ten ring, but your your goal
- 43:56Speaker 1: is to score a ten on your shot execution. And
- 44:00Speaker 1: when I kind of shifted focus to that to try
- 44:02Speaker 1: to make that perfect shot every time, it it was
- 44:06Speaker 1: just like you said, it didn't really matter what my
- 44:09Speaker 1: pin was doing, and my pin was moving around, floating around,
- 44:13Speaker 1: but it was, you know, it was always coming back
- 44:16Speaker 1: to where I was looking at and and no matter
- 44:18Speaker 1: where in the process my shot broke, the pin always
- 44:23Speaker 1: seemed to find the middle, you know. And and and
- 44:26Speaker 1: I just it kind of it just got the snowball rolling.
- 44:30Speaker 1: I could became more and more comfortable with movement and
- 44:32Speaker 1: just focusing on that that execution. And I'm just surprised,
- 44:36Speaker 1: you know, sometimes like you feel like that shot break
- 44:40Speaker 1: and it feels like you're end was you know, two
- 44:43Speaker 1: and just to the left and you go up there
- 44:45Speaker 1: and it's it's still in the middle, you know. And
- 44:48Speaker 1: I just it was just such a big, just a
- 44:52Speaker 1: big realization for me of how badly I was doing
- 44:55Speaker 1: things wrong, you know, for so many years if you
- 44:57Speaker 1: see that enough, like I remember John Barklow. UM, I'm
- 45:03Speaker 1: sure you guys now I remember John Barklow told me
- 45:07Speaker 1: he said, Dude, once I saw that happen enough times,
- 45:11Speaker 1: He's like, I just kind of took it as like
- 45:14Speaker 1: benefit of the doubt that as long as I'm doing
- 45:17Speaker 1: my job behind the line like that weird weird ship
- 45:21Speaker 1: like that, I'll go down and it won't. It won't.
- 45:25Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm more expecting it to like land where
- 45:30Speaker 1: I wanted to, if I'm just being dynamic versus um
- 45:34Speaker 1: being surprised that it is off, you know, because he said,
- 45:38Speaker 1: I've just I've kind of surprised myself so many times
- 45:42Speaker 1: by thinking, oh, I should have two of them that
- 45:44Speaker 1: are way left, and then I get down there and
- 45:46Speaker 1: they're in the middle, and it's like whoa, Okay, Yeah,
- 45:49Speaker 1: that's that's an awesome feeling. John. You going back to, like,
- 45:56Speaker 1: you know, um letting your pain flow and nick accepting movement.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Is there a time where you do things to minimize that? Um?
- 46:08Speaker 1: Like I was talking with Mark, I, I actually use
- 46:11Speaker 1: a rear bar um on my bow hunting setup, and
- 46:15Speaker 1: I know that you don't really promote that but um,
- 46:19Speaker 1: so for me, what I was noticing we both shoot
- 46:21Speaker 1: Mark and I shoot Matthews bows, the grip runs a
- 46:23Speaker 1: little lower in the system. They tend to be a
- 46:25Speaker 1: little more top heavy. So what I found is like
- 46:28Speaker 1: keeping my bow level um and you know, minimizing uh
- 46:36Speaker 1: pin flow. I needed to add some some sideway and
- 46:40Speaker 1: some and some weight to the rear to kind of
- 46:42Speaker 1: minimize that. Otherwise I was like correcting it with my hand,
- 46:45Speaker 1: which I didn't feel comfortable doing because then I felt
- 46:47Speaker 1: like I was imparting, you know, hand tork. But I
- 46:52Speaker 1: was wondering if you could just kind of touch on that,
- 46:53Speaker 1: like your thoughts on that, you know, with the scenario
- 46:57Speaker 1: that I just described, but also just like minimizing pin float,
- 47:00Speaker 1: Like it's okay to accept some movement, but when is
- 47:03Speaker 1: it excessive and when do you try to minimize it? Well,
- 47:08Speaker 1: I kind of just based it off the fact of
- 47:11Speaker 1: you know, if it's like, um, I don't know. One
- 47:14Speaker 1: way I guess the way I'll talk about is I
- 47:17Speaker 1: have a jeep and my wife as a jeep. My
- 47:19Speaker 1: jeep is my jeeps lifted with thirty five's. My wife's
- 47:23Speaker 1: is stock. Like if there's a lot of wind and
- 47:27Speaker 1: you have a wrangler and you're going down the road
- 47:30Speaker 1: like you're gonna move around. How my wife's moves around
- 47:34Speaker 1: is like manageable. How mine moves around is not what
- 47:39Speaker 1: I'd want my site pin to do. So I think
- 47:43Speaker 1: you kind of you thrive to have something that you understand.
- 47:47Speaker 1: If you're not being perfectly still, you're gonna see some movement,
- 47:50Speaker 1: But you don't want the movement like very sporadic. You
- 47:54Speaker 1: want it in like almost like a continual thing, like
- 47:57Speaker 1: if it's if it's always just kind of moving down
- 48:00Speaker 1: and coming up, moving down, coming up, moving down, coming up.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Some of that movement might not even be because of
- 48:05Speaker 1: the bow. It might be what your brain is wanting
- 48:08Speaker 1: to do. It's I always feel like when I cover
- 48:11Speaker 1: an object, my brain because it knows that's where it
- 48:14Speaker 1: wants me to hit. My brain wants confirmation that that
- 48:17Speaker 1: objects still there. So the subconscious actually lowers that just
- 48:21Speaker 1: enough to where you can peek and see it again,
- 48:23Speaker 1: and then it allows you to go back up and
- 48:25Speaker 1: then you it's like, I don't believe it's still there.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Can I just take a quick look, Oh yeah, it's
- 48:29Speaker 1: still there. It's kind of like the peekaboo thing. Um,
- 48:33Speaker 1: I'm I'm okay with that. But what I'm not okay
- 48:36Speaker 1: with is when it's like down and up right over up,
- 48:39Speaker 1: up up down, you know, like I don't like doing
- 48:43Speaker 1: that because I'm I'm fighting something. I don't like that.
- 48:46Speaker 1: If it's consistent, then I'm okay with it. Um. If
- 48:50Speaker 1: you have a slow float, then yeah, you can certainly
- 48:54Speaker 1: slow it down with mass um. But mass is really
- 48:57Speaker 1: hard to mass is hard to tote around the timber. Um.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Mass is sometimes hard to to deal with. If you
- 49:06Speaker 1: are committed to shooting every day, mask can can somewhat
- 49:11Speaker 1: come back and bite you. The better thing that you
- 49:13Speaker 1: should do if you're not wanting to shoot counterweights, which
- 49:18Speaker 1: I personally don't like sidebars for hunting. I think they're
- 49:22Speaker 1: very impractical. Um. I personally would rather you use the
- 49:29Speaker 1: canting option on your bow site, which is what they've
- 49:32Speaker 1: always been designed for. If you set your second and
- 49:36Speaker 1: third access on your site properly, those second third accesses
- 49:42Speaker 1: they should be forward of the site, which allows you
- 49:47Speaker 1: to turn your entire site housing you know, kind of
- 49:51Speaker 1: left or right. So essentially, if you do always can't
- 49:57Speaker 1: your bow slightly to the you know top land to
- 50:00Speaker 1: the right. You can take your site and slightly move
- 50:04Speaker 1: the bottom of that site to the right so that
- 50:07Speaker 1: your site is perfectly vertical even though you're limb tip
- 50:13Speaker 1: is slightly leaning, and your second third access will still
- 50:16Speaker 1: be correct if you do it the proper way. UM,
- 50:20Speaker 1: I would rather see that to compensate for a quarter
- 50:24Speaker 1: of a bubble, then I would someone you know, trying
- 50:28Speaker 1: to drag. There's just no way you would use like
- 50:31Speaker 1: if if you were on your belly shooting access, like
- 50:34Speaker 1: I was two weeks ago in Lena. I I mean,
- 50:38Speaker 1: I remember looking at Joe and I'm like, could you
- 50:40Speaker 1: imagine having a side rod on right now? And He's
- 50:42Speaker 1: just like you take it off and throw it after
- 50:45Speaker 1: your first stock, And I'm like, yeah, exactly, Yeah you would. Um.
- 50:50Speaker 1: You know, sometimes depending on the terrain and how diverse
- 50:54Speaker 1: you are and your hunting, sometimes you may be fine.
- 50:57Speaker 1: I mean, I've got I've got a guy that's kind
- 51:00Speaker 1: of part of our knock on staff that's filmed for
- 51:03Speaker 1: me for a long time. He shoots like a twenty
- 51:06Speaker 1: in stabilizer and a side rod. It's in a shoot
- 51:09Speaker 1: through riser all the time for hunting. It's it's like
- 51:13Speaker 1: one of the weirdest looking things I've ever seen. But
- 51:16Speaker 1: he's totally comfortable with it. He's a target shooter that
- 51:18Speaker 1: loves to hunt, so he just kind of more or
- 51:21Speaker 1: less takes out a target setup that just has fixed
- 51:25Speaker 1: pins and in an arrow with broadheads on it. Um,
- 51:29Speaker 1: and he deals with it. But he's also in Wisconsin
- 51:33Speaker 1: sitting in blinds or tree stands, like I think he
- 51:36Speaker 1: did an elk hunt himself, maybe a year ago. But
- 51:40Speaker 1: when I look at all the different places I go, man,
- 51:44Speaker 1: imagine trying to drag a sidebar through canola early season
- 51:49Speaker 1: in Alberta. He I mean, there's no way he could
- 51:55Speaker 1: do it. It's not practical. Um. Something you talk about
- 52:00Speaker 1: brought to mind, UM a topic that Andy, you and
- 52:03Speaker 1: me were talking about last night. I'm and steal and
- 52:05Speaker 1: the stealing idea you had been discussing with me here,
- 52:08Speaker 1: which was when we're talking about pin float on the
- 52:11Speaker 1: practice range is one thing. On actually in the field
- 52:16Speaker 1: it's another. And I imagine that I'm a different range
- 52:19Speaker 1: is practicing behind the house. Of course, you see more
- 52:21Speaker 1: float becomes more erratic the smaller that target is because
- 52:24Speaker 1: of how much further you are away from the target.
- 52:27Speaker 1: So I'm curious. John Andy had been posing this idea
- 52:30Speaker 1: to me, which is, how do you go about what's
- 52:32Speaker 1: the best way to go about determining your maximum effective range? UM?
- 52:36Speaker 1: And there's lots of different Everyone tosses out different numbers,
- 52:38Speaker 1: and people like to debate what's an ethical range, what's not,
- 52:42Speaker 1: what's effective, what's not, etcetera, etcetera. UM. And as I'm
- 52:45Speaker 1: practicing out there and you see how much pain float
- 52:47Speaker 1: you get and you start to become comfortable or not
- 52:49Speaker 1: comfortable at a certain level, how do you go about
- 52:53Speaker 1: determining what what a quality effect or what your maximum
- 52:57Speaker 1: effective range is? And how should someone out are listening
- 53:00Speaker 1: go about trying and figure that out for themselves. Is
- 53:02Speaker 1: it just can you do what you know? Some people say,
- 53:04Speaker 1: get get a whole group in a pie plate in
- 53:07Speaker 1: three inches in whatever? Or is there a more methodical
- 53:09Speaker 1: way that you go about approaching that. Well, the way
- 53:12Speaker 1: I approach it is I just straight up look at
- 53:14Speaker 1: someone and I'm like, can you guarantee me that you
- 53:17Speaker 1: can put one in the vitals? And if they're like, well,
- 53:22Speaker 1: I don't probably not, I'm like, okay, Well, then there's
- 53:26Speaker 1: your answer. Um, you know, I think if you practice
- 53:31Speaker 1: at distances long enough, Um, you know, you know, I'm
- 53:37Speaker 1: not going to tell someone, you know, if if someone
- 53:39Speaker 1: can hit it nine out of twelve, nine out of
- 53:42Speaker 1: ten times they can hit you know, a pie plate
- 53:45Speaker 1: at a hundred yards, but yet at their local club
- 53:49Speaker 1: as soon as someone shoots, you know, every at the
- 53:52Speaker 1: end of every three D round we do the everybody
- 53:55Speaker 1: throw a dollar in a hat and shoot the iron
- 53:57Speaker 1: bucket twenty yards and that guy goes out every time.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Well guess what, I don't care how many you can
- 54:01Speaker 1: shoot out at tenant a hundred. The guy unravels as
- 54:04Speaker 1: soon as there's pressure on him. So you know, you there.
- 54:08Speaker 1: I don't think there's a clear answer to that, you know,
- 54:11Speaker 1: I know that me personally. Um, honestly, there's been several
- 54:18Speaker 1: shots with with Joe Rogan, for example, there's been several
- 54:23Speaker 1: shots where we've been in a position and he's wanting
- 54:27Speaker 1: to make a shot and I'm like, you're not making
- 54:29Speaker 1: that shot, and he's like, would you make that shot?
- 54:32Speaker 1: And I would look at and be like no, and
- 54:35Speaker 1: he's like, you could make that shot, And I'm like,
- 54:37Speaker 1: with with what's going on now? Like I remember having
- 54:41Speaker 1: this conversation with him, Um in Lenna. I it was
- 54:44Speaker 1: it was a deer at sixty yards. Now, you know,
- 54:47Speaker 1: Joe is more than capable than shooting at sixty yards.
- 54:50Speaker 1: He's more capable of shooting at seventy or eighty. You know,
- 54:53Speaker 1: I've seen him shoot. You know, he's a good shot.
- 54:56Speaker 1: He doesn't like miss targets. He's a good shot. Um,
- 55:01Speaker 1: he's definitely you know, I wouldn't say he's great, but
- 55:05Speaker 1: like he's he's above average. He's you know, I don't
- 55:09Speaker 1: I wouldn't question that he could hit it in the vitals,
- 55:12Speaker 1: but when there was wind, and I know he hasn't
- 55:16Speaker 1: shot his bow enough to know what is what that
- 55:19Speaker 1: arrow is gonna do with a quarter bubble or half bubble. Um,
- 55:23Speaker 1: it's an axis which they can jump through their own
- 55:25Speaker 1: butthole to get away from an arrow if they want to. Um,
- 55:30Speaker 1: you know, there's there's like factors in there where I
- 55:33Speaker 1: just looked at him like, dude, I wouldn't take that shot.
- 55:36Speaker 1: I shoot sixty yards probably fifty arrows a day in
- 55:41Speaker 1: my backyard. But there's no like, there's no way I'd
- 55:44Speaker 1: be able to tell him, And honestly, even when I
- 55:48Speaker 1: when I was stalking in on my deer with Cam.
- 55:51Speaker 1: We had the bucket fifty five yards and I'm like,
- 55:55Speaker 1: I'm not gonna shoot him that far. And I freaking
- 55:59Speaker 1: took the chance of belly crawling to the next tree
- 56:03Speaker 1: where I could get behind it and and and kind
- 56:06Speaker 1: of come up because I really didn't want to take
- 56:10Speaker 1: a shot that far. I mean, because it's not about
- 56:13Speaker 1: what I'm capable of doing. It's about what that animals doing.
- 56:17Speaker 1: And if you hunt long enough, you know, you know,
- 56:22Speaker 1: shooting a white tail deer in Wisconsin is a lot
- 56:25Speaker 1: different than shooting a deer that's coming to a white
- 56:28Speaker 1: tail deer. It's coming to a feeder in Texas. I mean,
- 56:31Speaker 1: you know, a fifty yard shot at a white tail
- 56:35Speaker 1: up here in the Midwest, it's just out in a
- 56:37Speaker 1: food plot, cruising along, you know, chowing down on some turnups,
- 56:43Speaker 1: no problem. Fifty yard shot at anything intact, like a
- 56:47Speaker 1: deer in Texas it may not even be possible. Dude,
- 56:49Speaker 1: I don't even know, but I wouldn't try it, you know.
- 56:52Speaker 1: So it's it's really hard. You have to you have
- 56:55Speaker 1: to have the you have to have the knowledge in
- 56:59Speaker 1: the experience of being able to not only read the animal,
- 57:03Speaker 1: but no the animal, and then more importantly like small
- 57:07Speaker 1: factors like little wind guts you know, hasn't been raining.
- 57:12Speaker 1: Do you know what your bow does when there's a
- 57:14Speaker 1: little bit of water on your on your cable slide?
- 57:18Speaker 1: Did you have your bow in the back of the
- 57:20Speaker 1: truck going down the gravel road in Alberta where that
- 57:23Speaker 1: red dust gets all over everything and it starts to
- 57:25Speaker 1: slow down your speed. Little things like that, like, they
- 57:29Speaker 1: all factor in. So there's just no way you can
- 57:32Speaker 1: I can tell someone this is your effective distance? You know, Andy,
- 57:37Speaker 1: where's your head out on that? Yeah? That makes a
- 57:40Speaker 1: lot of sense. Um, you know, I it takes me
- 57:44Speaker 1: back to uh, the last two years in Wyoming antelope hunting. Um.
- 57:50Speaker 1: The first year, you know, I was feeling, you know,
- 57:53Speaker 1: very confident, you know, shooting at some longer distances. I've
- 57:56Speaker 1: been doing it for a lot of years practice, and
- 57:57Speaker 1: I felt very competent at a certain range with conditions
- 58:02Speaker 1: you know that were perfect. And the first year I
- 58:04Speaker 1: I did shoot an antelope you know, at a longer range.
- 58:08Speaker 1: It was dead palm, he was feeding. Um, you know,
- 58:11Speaker 1: the situation was perfect. Fast forward to the following year,
- 58:16Speaker 1: completely a different scenario. It was very windy. Um. I
- 58:21Speaker 1: kind of went in there maybe a little overconfident, and
- 58:26Speaker 1: I missed a shot um at the first antelope that
- 58:30Speaker 1: I that I shot at, and it was it wasn't
- 58:34Speaker 1: as long as that other shot. It was actually quite
- 58:36Speaker 1: a bit shorter um. But it was windy and it
- 58:39Speaker 1: was dusty, like you were saying, and it was you know,
- 58:42Speaker 1: it was blowing me off target. And you know, I
- 58:46Speaker 1: tried to wait for the wind to die down and
- 58:48Speaker 1: and make a good shot, and you know it it blew.
- 58:52Speaker 1: Not only was it blowing my bow off, it was
- 58:54Speaker 1: also it's also just sailed my arrow. And I was like,
- 58:57Speaker 1: oh my gosh, like what what am I do? And
- 59:00Speaker 1: like that was a really dumb mistake and I and
- 59:03Speaker 1: I realized that right after I did it, and I
- 59:05Speaker 1: was like, you know, this is a completely different type
- 59:08Speaker 1: of situation and I'm gonna have to get in close
- 59:11Speaker 1: to get it done on these uh, you know, on
- 59:13Speaker 1: an antelope this year. So I agree with it. It It
- 59:17Speaker 1: just kind of goes back to, you know, the conditions
- 59:20Speaker 1: and the whole scenario and and you really have to
- 59:23Speaker 1: kind of take a look at that and you know,
- 59:26Speaker 1: and uh, you know, I guess to make that make
- 59:29Speaker 1: that decision with the factors that you have there. Yeah,
- 59:31Speaker 1: it's a case by case type situation. Um. It's interesting
- 59:36Speaker 1: when I yeah, I feel like I listened to you
- 59:39Speaker 1: Andy talking to John, and I know you followed John's
- 59:43Speaker 1: um ideas and practices very closely over the years. And
- 59:47Speaker 1: and I've looked to you Andy as as a local
- 59:50Speaker 1: mentor of mine. And I'm a few years still behind
- 59:52Speaker 1: where year and I'm just figuring out how to I
- 59:55Speaker 1: I had the tiger panic issues over the last couple
- 59:57Speaker 1: of years. I've now switched to trying to implement at
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: the anticipated release, been been using the silver back this year.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: John really liking that. Um. So I'm early in this
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: stage though, and you're much further along Andy. Um as
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: you're as you're looking at this, and as as you've
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: heard John through his podcast and his YouTube videos all
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: these different things he is putting out there. Um, you're
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: at that. I think you're in the high end of
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: the typical hunter out there. What are the next level
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: things that you're still wondering from John as far as
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: how to take your you know, I don't know if
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: you've got a couple other ideas like that you're still struggling,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: You're you've got these small little inches, these little details
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: that can probably take you to that next level. Um,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: what are those other things you're curious to hear from John?
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Because because I have all sorts of questions, but they're
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: pretty basic still because I'm, you know, early in this journey.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: What else? What else do you need to know? Andy? Yeah? Well,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: well real quick, I wanted to tell John this is
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: a really special podcast for me because, um, I I
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: got tuned into your podcast I think you had just
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: launched episode two and that was that was uh an
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: episode that really cleared some things up for me. I
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: was struggling with target panic really bad, and that two
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: thousand thirteen, two thousand fourteen, uh, you know, two thousand
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: twelve right around there, and UM, you know, I so
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: I identified it pretty early, and you were the one
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: guy that you know, helped me make sense of what
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: was going on. And it was just so influential to
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: me over the years. And I, you know, I jumped in,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: you know, head first, and I've never looked back. And I,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: you know, I was struggling with enjoying archery and now
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I love it more than ever and it's really spilled
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: over into my success as a bull hunter. So thank
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: you for that, um. But also, like you know, for
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: those guys that maybe are what you would consider higher level,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: that have mastered this type of shot execution, you know,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: the guys like Joe or the guys that have you know,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: been doing it for a long time, what can those
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: guys do, those guys that have already mastered that, what
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: can those guys do to squeeze out that last little
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: bit of accuracy or continue to improve? Is there is
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: there something that you know, maybe you you kind of
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: we're really high level archers that you coached to take
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: them to that next up. Well, with really high level
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: archers that end up eventually hitting some type of slump,
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: what's amazing to all of them is that what I
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: naturally do is just try to reset them back to
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: the very beginning and instead of trying to instead of
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: trying to like make adjustments afterwards, it's like take everything
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: away and go back to like here's the shot process,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Here's what I want you to think about. Here's a string.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: We're gonna just execute on a string. You know, I
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: go back and try to just do a complete reboot
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: and then obviously once they get the confidence that in,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: then they're able to get back on track. Um. Sometimes
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: for the elite level guys that are somewhat struggling, there's
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: a couple of things that can happen. One, they can
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: just have expectations of themselves that they may not be
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: capable of. Um. You know, it's it's like, as much
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: as I want to be able to do, as much
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: as I want to be able to go out and run,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: like like cam Haignes, I mean, I'm six man, no offense,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: I'm i am beat to the ground if I go
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: out and try to put miles on like that every day. Like,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: there's certain things where I'm like, you know what, I
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: feel like, I feel like I'm good when I'm running,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: but I'm you know, I'm I recognize the fact that
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: I'm I'm kind of made to just be amid a
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: mediocre runner, But I feel like I have a good
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: technique and I'm good. I feel like I'm definitely doing
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: it good enough to get by. UM. The other thing
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: is some elite level guys or guys that have done
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: it a long time and maybe they know what to do.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Some of them really don't put in the time that
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: you have to to be polished like some of these people.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: And that's a big thing for me. You know, when
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: people ask me why I don't compete, there's just I
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: don't have the time. You know, I would have my
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: my twenty year old self would have beat would have
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: beat me right now because my twenty year old self
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: shop four or five, six, seven hours a day, and
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: even if I wasn't doing it right, I did it
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: wrong consistently and because it was just time and repetition.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: So I think as long as you're really recognizing the
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: like for example, there's some people that have like natural
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: like they're naturally shaky, like when they go to do things.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: You know, have you ever seen people where their hands
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: kind of shake. If they're really focusing on something like
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: that type of person, they're gonna deal with that, and
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: it's it's gonna be hard to be is accurate as
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: someone that's shooting a bow that their pin is super
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: stable and they're making good shots. So you kind of
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: need to be truthful on your self reflection of you
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: know what, I'm really solid. I feel like I'm making
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: great shots. I practice all the time, then okay, well,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: now your candidate to talk about a third thing. How
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: much are you actually putting into fine tuning your arrow
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: setups to really match your bow? And do you know
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: your boat set up is set up properly to where
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: it's maximizing the groups that your arrows can provide based
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: on how the two of them team up together. Um.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: So some of those small little points start to come
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: from small little things like you know, how many gadgets
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: do you have constantly? There's some people that are just gadgety,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: people that have like you know, they have like weird
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: d loops. They want to kiss her button, they want
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: some kind of a weird new peep site. You know,
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: they want this site that's got a fiber optic dot
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: in the middle, the sticker that's a ring, um, you know,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: all these different things that are kind of, in my opinion,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: gadgety rather than just simplifying it and really focused on
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: being able to um, really focusing on being able to
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: kind of perfect what they're doing and know if what
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: they're doing is uh, is gonna work. Um. There's people
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: out there and I've done this. I've posted a picture
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: a few days ago of this target bail and there
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: was like three different groups of arrows on it. Each
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: of those groups of arrows were all shot out of
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: the exact same boat at ninety but every every single
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: arrow group had a much different result on the paper.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: And those results were based on how those arrows matched
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: the boat. And that's one thing you really have to
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: know about. Andy. I know we've got we're running a
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: time here, so I know you had one, maybe two
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: other questions on this line of thinking. I'll let you
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: let you send one more to wrap this up. John,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: like you, you know, everybody kind of looks up to you,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: you know, as a as an archery coach, and you
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: know we see you make you know, great shots consistently
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: and and uh you know certainly you know, highest of
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: the highest far As archery skill level. But can you
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: tell us I just want to kind of like humanize
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: you a little bit and and ask you, um, you know,
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: give us a reason why John Dudley might miss might
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: miss um? I miss all the time? Okay, Well, what's
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: what causes you to What causes you to miss? Um?
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Lack of practice? I mean lack of practice, uh, you know,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: lack of practices. One when I break down you know,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: a lot of the things that I talked about, I
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: talk about them because I'm dealing with them. You know,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: when I make a post talking about the importance of
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: shoulder position and how creeping, how creeping causes you to
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: miss and where that miss is gonna go, it's because
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: I've been doing it all morning, you know. Um you
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: know there. That's that's why I practice. That's why I
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: did that School Knox series because it's like, you know,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: and there were days where I showed people like, I
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: can't shoot a three hundred to day, I can't, But
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: my goal is to be shooting three hundreds with high
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: you know, high upper twenty x counts by the end
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: of this period. Because you know, I'm realistic. I know
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: that I can't just pick up my boat anytime and
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: shoot clean. Now, am I gonna? Can I sit down
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: my bow and pick it up and be above average? Yeah?
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: I think I'd feel comfortable saying that, But you know,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: I certainly do miss. You know, there's times where as
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: soon as the shot breaks, I'm like, damn, it bubbles off,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: you know, and being able to to recognize, like why
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: you miss is very important, and also being able to
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: recognize what actually like some type of a technique or
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: flaw that's broke down, like right as the share the
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: arrows breaking. That's really important too, um, because it helps
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: you identify you know, if I make a shot and
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: the shop breaks and I kind of see the arrow
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: come out a little sideways, like instantaneously, I'm thinking like
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: grip pressure, and then all of a sudden, Oh, I
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: feel the front of my riser pushing really hard on
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: the front of my index finger. Dang, I was freaking
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: putting a little front finger torque on that thing. Um.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: You know, I learned to recognize those. You know. It's
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: not like I can't say I slop arrows around all
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: day long, but you know, I really strive to get
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: in into a rhythm and into a flow state and
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: into a zone. And sometimes it may take meros to
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: get there. Sometimes it may happen right off the bat, um,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: you know, but I certainly miss. I did a live
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: feed the other day, and as I was talking, I
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: was showing people how my sight work turned around and
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: made a shot at thirty yards but had still had
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: my sight set on fifty and just you know, totally
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: blank the target. So you know, it's it's common for me.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: You know, it happens. I'm not I'm not a robot um.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: But again, this kind of goes full circle back to
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: what we talked about at the very beginning. Is now
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: I'm in a whole new position where it's like, you
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: know what that happens, but at least I know why,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: and I'm not gonna let it happen on the next arrow.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna make corrections. And I think if you have
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: that approach, then eventually you'll find this little click where
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: you're just gonna be making really good shots. And sometimes
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: you'll go out and be like, man, I couldn't miss tonight,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: And those are the best feeling days. But there's also
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: days where you go out and you just feel like
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: your shoes coming untied all the time. And honestly, on
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: those days, I just kind of embrace the suck and
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: just say it's not meant to be tonight. You know,
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: I'm I'm shooting some hates. I really wanted to shoot twelve,
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: so it might be a good night for me to
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: go and you know, get some of these fletchings repaired,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: and get get this de loop you know, replaced, and
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: and I'll do something archery related but not necessarily reinforced
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: bad habits. I feel like everybody listening to this if
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: they're a bowl hunter, which probably ninety seven or some
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: of the folks listening to this one or bow hunters,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: we all want to get better. We're all at different
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: levels though we all have kind of a different starting
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: point where we're at right now, but we're all looking
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: to take that next step. And you talk to people
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: all the time that are trying to take that next step,
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: and they look to you to figure out how to
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: do that. Um, you've got to hear a lot of
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: things from those people. You must hear explanations for why
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: they're not doing that, or problems or questions or concerns
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: or excuses. Is there something that you oftentimes just wish
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: you could tell these people. Is there one thing that
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: just jumps up over and over is like that challenge
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: you wish you could give everyone, or the thing like
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: everyone's looking for the magic bullet and you could say, well,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: I challenge you to do this, or or here's one
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: thing I really wish people would start working on, would
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: focus on. If you could leave people with one final
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: challenge today or one final parting piece of advice that
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: seems maybe somewhat universal. What would that be John, to
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: wrap us up here, be honest with your work ethic.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: And again this is going right back to where we started.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: So there's people that feel like they might put in
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: the effort, but deep down are you really like can
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: you really answer that question? People that come and say,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: you know what, I tried the silver back, it just
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: wasn't for me, And it's like, how long? How long
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: did you try it? While I tried in a week? Okay,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Well how much do you shoot in a week? You
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: shoot three days a week? Well, yeah, maybe you know,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: sometimes four days? Okay, So you tried it four days
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: and then you gave up on it. So that's not
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: a fair time. So you really have to be truthful
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: to yourself of what is your work ethic? And if
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: you know your work ethics good, then also be truthful
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: to yourself of are you looking at the right information.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: So I'm confident that if you're looking at the information
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: that I give out, I'm confident that I'm giving out
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: information that helps pool. And I'm confident in the information
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: that I talked about or I don't talk about it.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Um and if you can answer yes to both those things.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: I'm confident I did what you told me. I'm confident
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I'm putting in the time. Um. Then the last thing
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna leave you with is trusted. This past weekend,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: I was actually um driving through Arizona and uh, well
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: I drove. I flew into one place and I drove
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: to another, and then I ended up flying out of another. Um.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: Actually I flew to one. Yeah, I picked up to
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: fly to another, then drove to one, then flew back.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: But anyway, um on, while I was there, I was
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: in Tucson, and UM, the buddy I was with, I'm like,
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I said, does PSC still have their like pro shop
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: and their outdoor range? And he said, yeah, yeah they do.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: And I said, I'm like, I want to see it,
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: because I said, the last time I was here was
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: I think it was twenty five years prior. And uh
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: and I remember I remember shooting there with like Terry
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: and Michelle Ragsdale. They came out and shot after work
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: like it was. It was pretty cool. So I walked
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: into an Archer shop. There were several guys in there
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: that once I started talking and saying, like I remember,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Terry was over there, and Michelle was over there and
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: they heard my voice and they kind of looked and
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: they were like, oh my gosh, you're in here. And
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: a couple of them had silver backs, they had knock
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: on fletchings, and I said, oh, this looks really cool,
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: and he's like, yeah, I did it all myself based
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: on your videos. And just being able to say, dude,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: you did perfect, Now just trust it and shoot it.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I think that's one of the biggest things for people,
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: and it's the biggest things for high level archers that
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: get in slumps that end up coming to me is
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: all they want is the reassurance of what they're doing
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: is right, and way more times than not, what you're
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: doing is right. You just really got to put in
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: time and put in undistracted focus. One of the things
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: that's hard right now is people, um, people take and
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I'm I'm I'm bad about this. There's times where I
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: practice where I'm uninterrupted and I'll just make a I'll
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: make a picture post about a a shot that I've done,
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: um that was an hour or two hours earlier. I'm
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: not like trying when I'm doing live feeds, are trying
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: to make posts or texting, my friends are talking during
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: my practice. It's very uninterrupted. It's very interrupted practice, and
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: it's not very good. Same things true with the weight
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: round when people are like, dude, I go to the
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: weight room every day, but I just never really change.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: And I'm like, hey, man, normally you're doing like three snapchats,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: you're freaking on Facebook, you're on Instagram, like you know,
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: you're not actually going in there and being effective at
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: what you're doing. So I just want to urge people
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: that if you can look at yourself in the mirror
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: and say I am I am willing to put in
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: the time, and I'm confident that I did everything that
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: you told me and I'm not like making excuses for
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: things that might not feel comfortable this second, then the
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: next thing is just trusted and just put in time
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: because it takes. It's it's a proven fact psychologically it
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: takes at least twenty one days to create a habit.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: So you have to commit to at least that before
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: you can feel like you're not doing something the right way.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: And that's like you said, this is a perfect way
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: to wrap it up, kind of coming full circle talking
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: about the importance of that ethic developing these good habits,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: sticking to your guns on things like this, and just
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: doing the work. So that the final thing I got
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: to ask John is just where can people find more
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: of this information from you? You talked about the fact
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: that you're very confident that the information you're putting out
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: there is quality and spot on, which which Andy and
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: I can both personally test to. So so what would
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: you recommend folks check out first to learn more? Um? Well,
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: if you go to the knock On Archery YouTube channel, um,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: you can easily just type in, type in a subject
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: that you're thinking about, you know, and then maybe put
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: my put my name in front of it. Just John Dudley,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: how to shoot release, John Dudley, peep site, John Dudley
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: anchor position, and you're there's just hundreds and hundreds and
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: hundreds of videos in there on do that you know,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: are are about that? You know, how to fletch your narrow,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: how to set my sight up, how to tie a
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: de loop, how to tie a knocking point, I mean anything,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: just put it in there and then every day, like
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: my most my most frequented UM place is Instagram. You know,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: it's at knock On TV n O c K O
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: N t V. I definitely post as I'm practicing, I
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: post results afterwards. I do a lot of live feeds
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: on there and make sure notifications are on because in
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: the middle of practice, if I've made a mistake and
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: I want to talk about it, I'll go on a
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: live feed and and show you, or I'll also talk
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: about things that I might be doing in the field
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: or things that I might be packing for a camp.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: So that's really my channels. And honestly, if I wasn't
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: doing what I'm doing now, there's no way I would
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: be out there on these things I'm I'm there for
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: I'm there for the archery community in the bow hunting community,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: so if you're interested, those are the places to be
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: perfect all right, John, Well, can't thank you enough. This
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: is as usual, always a lot of interesting stuff, a
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: lot of education, and Andy and I both really appreciate it.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: So thanks for taking this time. Yeah, thanks you guys.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Thank thanks John. And that is it for today. I
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: gotta believe you're gonna leave this one inspired to start
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: kicking some butt, whether that's with your bow or out
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: in the woods. So don't let that energy fizz away.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Get out there, and get after it hunting season. It
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: is just on the horizon's gonna be here before we
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: know it. So until next time, thank you for being here,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: and stay wired to hunt.
