- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: is the Steve Downs, the voice of Master Chief, Spartan 1-1-7, with an incoming message for Ryan Green and all, we'll listen to the podcast It Just Works, let's finish the fight.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Listen up, Chief, out.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: Hello everyone and welcome to the It Just Works podcast.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm your host Ryan and it is amazing to be back.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it's been so long.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: In fact, it's almost been two months.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: The last episode came out September 24th and I had a lot of plans to come back and
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: do a bunch of episodes and it didn't happen.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I appreciate everyone who stuck around listen to the show.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: We've actually had a little bit of a resurgence in the time that I've been gone in October.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: There's honestly a good amount of people listening and catching up on the catalog.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I just want to say thank you so much to everyone who supported the show, asked about it.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: Everything I basically said on the last intro that you've probably heard.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: and there's a lot to catch up on.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know where to start besides the subject of today's episode.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to talk about a game plan.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just going to roll out content as it goes from now on.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: If there's a great pattern to it, then I'll do my best to stick to it.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: But just the way things are going, I can't make any promises, and I do apologize for that.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like for the longest time I was just kind of like push and stuff through just to do it and I really didn't enjoy that.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: However, now I'm back into just kind of playing different games, just doing different things and it's mainly going back towards games right now.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I am playing obviously Pokemon Legends EA.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be its own episode soon.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully very soon I just need to finish it.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's a few things I want to finish first.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: but there's actually going to be news coming out tomorrow.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: So who knows, maybe I'll do like a episode pretty soon here with Brian.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think having him on to talk about our experiences with the game overall would be really good.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm playing a lot of Warhammer, 40k space screen, too.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: I got the game half off.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: I was waiting for it to come on the game pass.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: However, it was 30 bucks.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_01]: I bought it and the game is insane if you haven't played it and you don't know anything about the universe Don't worry.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't either.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's still a wonderful game to play especially especially if you're a fan of gears of war If you're just a fan of gears of war, this is the game for you To hold you over until the next gears e-day
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: I've been playing a lot of Fallout 76, my girlfriend, a shout, Savannah, love you.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: Battlefield 6 with her, that was really fun.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: Just running around and reviving each other.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: She thinks it's hilarious when you can just ragdoll, like drag your body to get a revive.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: It is pretty damn funny.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then I've also been playing it.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Bunch of other random games.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully we can pump out some episodes about these games that I've been playing and kind of dive into that There's a lot going on in these games with especially with updates So keep an eye out for that, but this episode today is for the Halo community who in my opinion Means a shit or get off the pot
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Because for the longest time we want bungee we want bungee's halo.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's got to be bungee.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: There's Bob, Bob, I've been playing halo since 2001, maybe early thousands.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: You I don't know the definitive date.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to think about that Think thank you to my old friends who are still my friends till this day.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely love them.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: They know who they are that showed me halo
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: I've been playing in ever since been a die hard fan ever since and while the games are not without their issues all of them by the way, none of them are perfect if you didn't know that there's a news flash for you Ever since Halo reached though in bungee's kind of you know been taking a step back.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: They're no longer working on Halo.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's no longer their franchise.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's 3-4-3 Microsoft and Then now it's Halo Studios.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: No fans have ever truly been happy in a certain group because they just feel like the bungee air has gone
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: So Halo 4 comes out.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: The campaign is actually really good.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: The art style and art direction till this day for me Are is questionable.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: I like chiefs armor, but when you play the mod that it actually brings the Halo 3 assets in into it You're like son of a bitch.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Why did they change this?
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: However, Halo 4's multiplayer was basically a ripoff of Call of Duty, and it was a trotius at launch, and by the time they fixed it to gear it more towards the traditional Halo multiplayer, we just 50 kills, no kill streaks, no air drops, no classes, you just played with the BR AR free-for-all, just AR magnums, just bringing it back to
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: The arena shooter that it always was, it was too little too late as the player base head essentially died.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: What feels like overnight, I was there playing through all the DLCs, the championship pack was cool, added the pit back, added some classic armor sets.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: It was just a fun time because they had like this weird like class system through your Spartan rank where you can choose a class and unlock the armor set and visors and complete challenges that really cool stances.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: But again by the time this all like got ironed out, it didn't matter.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: The player base has gone Spartan ops was like kind of cool but kind of lame because a lot of the missions were just repeat arenas from the campaign and the story
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: was okay, but it wasn't like stand out and it's gonna knock your socks off.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: And then also by the time they all included new arenas for Spartan Ops, even me on the UNSC Infinity, it was just a little too late for fans to really give a shit.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: Moving on, we have Halo 5, which has one of the craziest marketing campaigns, which kind of paints Chief as his villain with a hunt-the-truth podcast and that podcast campaign plus the marketing and the commercials.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: to what is easily one of the worst campaigns I've ever played in my entire lifetime featuring Chief, I believe in only two playable missions and the first, I mean, they're just suck.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: We get blue team for the first time ever in the video games.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right there, front and center to be with Chief, and it's completely wasted.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Fire team Osiris was put to the forefront because they wanted to bring in new characters and create this ensemble cast
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: who they took from Alpha 9 and put him on fire team of Cyrus and made him a Spartan and Nathan Phelian's talents were just wasted.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like Spartan lock could have been a cooler character but wasted quite on quote hunting chief.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: That campaign sucked ass.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Arbitters at the end, but it doesn't even really matter.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: what a waste.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: But the multiplayer, however, so right, you know, Halo 4, the campaign was fine, not bad, Spartan Ops' cool, nothing crazy.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: But the multiplayer was really frowned upon.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: But with Halo 5, the multiplayer was the opposite.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: The multiplayer was extremely loved.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: Again, though, the art style looks like shit.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why they really did what they did for two games.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: But the gameplay was solid, and the map design was fun, you know, bringing fresh new maps, bringing some old maps.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: However, big team battle wasn't added at launch, because Warzone was their big standout mode, which was cool because it had AI on the map, had friendly Marines at the red and blue bases, and then there was four runners, and Storm Covenant that could.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, pop up on the map and you can kill many bosses to unlock more wreck points and earning more wreck points allows you to use different items, weapons, powerups, and really Change the game in terms of the playing field against your opponents
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: However, just like anything else in the current modern gaming era, there is micro-transactions that completely ruined it.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: With the form of rec packs, these rec packs made it so you were basically paid away in Warzone.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: You can honestly, I'm one of them.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: I spent a ton of money because I wanted to unlock all the cool new armors and stuff from the updates But by doing this, I also unlocked a ton of cards that I can use in Warzone and when I got those points I can easily bring out a Faiton for instance the four-runner ship that Completely annihilated band cheese and everything else on the map and if someone didn't like play the game constantly And they just hopped on because they wanted to test out Halo 5
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: There's no chance.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing they could have done.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: The Halo 2 battle rifle was a four or five point wreck item.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's a loadout item so I can get it every time.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Once I unlock anything, I could be wrong about that.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: but the gun was so good that basically no one stood a chance unless they had another good loadout item or a wreck power weapon.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: So while Halo 5 is multiplayer was great, it was held back by no big team battle at launch.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: Warzone eventually becoming pay-to-win at launch.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: It was very balanced and really, really fun.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I loved Warzone.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Played at a U3.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was great.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: Disgusting and it wasn't really fun to play on and and that's just me personally.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Infection was also brought back and And it's brought back really well.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: I honestly thought infection was really well done They also had a standout mode from the beta and also the game itself called breakout Which was like this counter strike elimination style mode you have one life make it count and while I never personally got into it Because I'm so used to not giving a shit about if I die on Halo it was a really well done game mode
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: that there could have been something there and I actually really appreciate their vision for it.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like it was also kind of a missed opportunity.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like once people didn't, you know, get all crazy on it.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: They were like, yeah, we can move on.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry if you heard that discord notification by the way, I just turned that shit off.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so let's Halo 5.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: What else we got?
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, I almost forgot, which is the whole point of my career.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: So that we got Halo, combat of all the anniversary after Bungie left, so we're going to take it back, I apologize.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I actually really liked the game when it first came out.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: However, I couldn't have been more disappointed with how bright some of the scary levels were.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: So for a little bit, I thought the art direction was fine.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then you go to three, four, three guilty spark and nothing is left to the imagination.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: You can literally see where there should have been fog because you can press select and look at the original graphics.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: you can see the flood jumping but in the original game if you didn't know what you were looking at you wouldn't have thought anything of it besides it being kind of scary and like ooh what was that and that's completely gone you can just see the flood jumping so things like that completely killed the atmosphere of one of the craziest turns i think until this day in gaming that there is you go from just a space opera of just you know almost feels like aliens and marines
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you just got to save, you know, save the ring essentially from going off and save Earth.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: But then all of the sudden it turns into a horror game and it wasn't like it was kind of ruined.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: And everyone looked kind of weird and wonky in it.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: So while I appreciate it, it wasn't that great.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think the best part of Halo Combat of all the anniversary.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: was that Halo Reach got an anniversary update, which made like the Magnum function a lot better, not perfect as Halo 1, but really, really good and very satisfying to use, and he brought back it pretty good amount of classic maps for the multiplayer, which were stunning.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: They looked amazing.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: So that was probably the best part of that package, but still kind of frowned upon, not a lot of people happy, as we're definitely finding out the campaign you've all denouncement, but we'll get there.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: Then we get Halo Wars 2, the follow up to Halo 1, made from Assemble Studios, which was taken over by Robot Entertainment to push out some updates and some DLC content.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: A game that definitely deserved more support, but was basically put on lifeline by Assemble being closed out and Robot Entertainment not being able to really follow up.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: Properly probably due to resources Then we get Halo Wars 2 made by Creative Assembly who I got to meet in Person I got to meet some of the developers at E3 fucking wonderful group of people played the beta What I just thought the game was like such a huge step up from Halo Wars 1 and not the Halo Wars 1 was battering.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think that game is stellar RTS is a wonderful.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: I wish it was a genre that came back with Halo Wars 3.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: Weink wink
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: But Halo Wars 2 comes out and it's got a fantastic campaign showcasing the banished a different faction of the Covenant which broke off from the Covenant.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: and they're literally more brutish, more aggressive, a lot scarier than your typical covenant, and it also brought back red team and what is it called?
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: The spirit of fire and all that cast and crew, aside from Serena who had to basically die because of her life span and she'd go rampant blah, blah, blah, blah, and then Sergeant Ford
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: but so the game comes out and it's got another mode that's kind of like a good tester multiplayer mode it's called blitz and it's where you can basically build the deck of cards for each leader in the game and all their units are in it and you can level them up which sounds amazing right like you keep playing you level up these cards you complete challenges you can change your deck around and find what suits you best maybe you like to rush the opponent maybe you like to lock down and have heavy units or maybe air units or just inventory you can do
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: The game mode was completely ruined on launch and before launch because there was micro-transactions to buy these packs of cards Which allow you to level up your character now if anyone's familiar with the games or RTS is Units can earn veterans see which levels up their stats their health or
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: their damage output and if i have a level seven marine group versus a level three they're going to get decimated because the level seven group is so much higher level so just like you know war zone if you paid enough money your deck was so powerful that no one can even do anything against to because your units had this much health this much damage output
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: It was insane, and that game mode died.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: The game didn't necessarily die on launch, a YouTube channel called Breaking the Clutch.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that's what they were, shout out to them if I said that right.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: They ran tournaments and hosted strategies and
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: show showcase every leader and things you can do people had their gameplay reviews sorry walkthroughs with the campaign the game actually received a ton of content which till this day I would tell you is worth going back and playing
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: So, if you're interested, I promise you Halo Wars 2 is worth your time.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: You get a ODST, a couple of missions, or three missions, like a little side campaign, and then you get a wake in the nightmare, which is actually playing as the banished, and you get to see some stuff on the arc from their perspective, which introduces the flood.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's in the trailers, not too much of a spoiler.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: Then they also made Commander Jerome, made Jerome a leader, like a fictional commander, and he's got a bad-ass unit of Spartans, and
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: Just some of the leaders are just so cool The gameplay is really cool, but the thing is it's all based on a rock paper scissors system So it's like the strategy only can go so far and I feel like in Halo Wars 2 it actually held it back a little bit more than Halo Wars 1 There's just something about Halo Wars 1 where it felt like you could still break out of it I don't know.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think I was just better at Halo Wars 1 than Halo Wars 2 although in the Halo Wars 2 beta
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: I played as Captain Cutter and Alex played as one of the covenant or banished leaders and I just ran ODST's and snipers and we won every single match and we easily played over a few dozen matches so shout out to Alex What a badass teammate
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: so that brings us to the next bundle of joy.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: Halo Infinite.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: Halo Infinite is a game in the gaming industry.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's really tough.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: This game went through development hell just like what seems to be a bunch of games in the last decade.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: And it was supposed to be this, it was supposed to be that I can make a whole different podcast episode about what Halo Infinite should have been in terms of what they wanted to do, what was cut and what people didn't agree with that were in the wrong positions of leadership.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so Halo Infinite had its beta, I personally think till this day Halo Infinite is the best multiplayer we've received in the Halo franchise in Halo 3.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: To me, literally is Halo 3 with Sprint and Clamber and then different equipment, so like the grapple shot and everything else.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the best successor to Halo 3.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: Not that I don't love Halo Reach, I cherish Halo Reach.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: But I really do think they nailed the gameplay.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: They nailed the art style, which has been something you've constantly heard me talk about this episode.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: And then...
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: The campaign is really, really good, but they went back on split screen and couch co-op.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: So they promised it for like two Halo games and basically failed to commit to that.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: So that's great.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: Chief wakes up six months later after like a short cutscene of a fight with a triax, which is a badass scene.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: and he's just kind of wandering on his own.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's an open-world experience which I've been dying for in Halo, since ODST.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they nailed it.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: However, I do think some of the things that are left unsaid is like, why isn't there different biomes that we explore?
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: And you do find out that that was cut content, that that was stuff that they wanted to do.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like this whole open-world was meant to be so much more than what we got.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I do, I am talking about what we got, right?
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what we got was an easy eight out of ten.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: I fucking love Halo Infinite's campaign at launch.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: I enjoyed it beyond belief, and I would be down to replay right now.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: I've replayed it a lot.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: So that's yeah, but people didn't like it because there's no biomes They didn't like that there wasn't like a lot of returning characters like blue team everyone on the infinity fire team of Cyrus There's no sign of red team in the spirit of fire There's just there's just no one it's just the pilot
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: this new Cortana, but called the weapon, which is now called joy, as we know, it's just those three, and then someone characters you encounter, and their data pads, which tells you a different side story of the deaths of certain Spartans, and the Marines you find, and that's it.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I personally think, because Bungie always believed that Master Chiefs would just be you, the player.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not opposed to that.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: I like the way the design Master Chief in Halo 13.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: However, I also actually like the personification and humanity of Master Chief through 343 slash Halo Studios telling.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, telling.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: I love that Chief talks a lot more.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: He actually has something to say, or he doesn't, or he can still stand there like a fucking
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: And still tell you a thousand words.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: I personally like it a lot because I love Steve down I love his voice.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: I love hearing chief talk and there's a part where the pilot just feels like he failed It's about maybe like 60% through the major campaign doing the main quest and all that because a lot of other the side quest you can do And This the speech that give to each other, you know, or the speech that chief gives is like out of this world and
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: I love it so much, so it depends on what kind of Halo fan you are for the Halo Infinite campaign.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of critiques are still valid, actually.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: I just personally love them.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, I personally love the campaign I could go play right now.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: I would say my biggest gripe personally is that all of the updated content to come to a multiplayer literally none of it not a single bit of it went to the campaign so I can't go run around with a bandit and if you don't know what that is it's the DMR they brought it back without bloom and it looks beautiful it's very fun to use or the new equipment or some of the new like spinoff guns that
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, they made some weird decisions and I don't get it, but basically they spent a lot of time to make the slip space engine and it's basically a dog shit engine that no developer knows how to work on because Microsoft laid off the developers that worked on it, so really just scrounging from scraps here.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: And then Halo Infinite's multiplayer so we could talk about that now.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: Unfortunately, the multiplayer launched with like zero to a little content.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: The first season was six months long.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: When most battle passes are only three months and seasonal content and like seasonality is only three months long and an apex fortnight.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: Call a duty and some many other games out there.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: Valorant League of Legends now Marvel rivals like games that have come out already now are still doing
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: just so many games can push out content better than they did for Halo and it's absolutely despicable because it basically killed the fan base.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: The game was fun to play no doubt, but there is no like career rank which they added later on and if you got to hear a rank you unlocked Master Chiefs armor from the campaign.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_01]: Fucking awesome.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: But by the time they started adding some of this most impactful content armor that people have never been able to wear from some
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: was gone like it didn't like the fan base was gone it didn't matter so by the time they added a lot of this stuff everyone's not going to come back and no one really cares anymore and it's a shame because when you look at all of the stuff that's been added from game modes to custom games browser to forge and what they've done with forge yeah i mean it's got a solid player base that's committed but i mean it's got a okay player base that's committed to exploring it
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: But when we think of like the hundreds of thousands and however many on Halo 3 and Halo reach and Halo 2, it's just, it's just not even comparable and it's, it's really sad at the end of the day because I think Halo infinite again is the best package content upon post release, you know post launch content that we've had since Halo 3 and it's just too little too late.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: The game has been out for I think four years.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: I could be wrong, I think it's been out for three or four years, uh, this month, and we're moving on.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: We're moving on next year to what I'd like to talk about now, which is Halo Campaign evolved in the whole point of this episode.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: The whole point of being doing that recap is that I think people suck like you want this you want that so Halo 4 multiplayer multiplayer was atrocious campaign was great we or the I guess they didn't like the campaign either because Halo 5 the campaign sucked in the multiplayer was great so this stuff it's just like in stuff because as a fan base we feel like we can't just have that complete package like that's all people really want now
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: They just want to be able to buy their game and like this is it.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is the game.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Are they going to add more in the future?
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I want right out the gate on release.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing more than a day one patch.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: But I want all the content there.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: It just feels like we're not getting that.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: There's some things that people want and then they don't.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: So like, I personally think a campaign, the campaign of all remake combat of all remake called campaign of all because it's apparently not apparently there's no multiplayer planned.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the best way to redo this franchise.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think this franchise desperately needs a reboot or a soft reboot, which is basically what we're doing now.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: Halo Infinite was a soft reboot, but they've already failed.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: because Cortana went bad, and they scrapped that, and then what they did now, people didn't like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: So as launching on PlayStation 5 and I can't think of what better way to bring people together for the 25th anniversary of Xbox and Halo is this game, this legendary campaign being remade from the ground up utilizing the Halo Reach Engine and Unreal Engine 5.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: and it looks stunning now there's issues obviously there's pop it on textures you can literally see it in the trailers right now if you go watch them and that's disappointing but we're pretty far away from that so I'm gonna give them a benefit out watch me be wrong it's probably gonna happen but the gameplay looks good
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: all of the the the the campaign looks good so they show the silent cartographer of course and the cutscenes look out of this world like the way that you always pictured it when you were a kid the water effects look fucking crazy you feel like you're actually there but there is some critiques so we see sprint obviously there's like I don't know a percentage of the fanbase has to not like sprint but they're fucking annoying I'm so tired of them I've been tired of
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: Um, just fuck off.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: We're playing as a dude and armor who I always thought should be able to run like I've even when I was a kid.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: Even when I was reading the books, first strike and the flood and Halo reach or sorry follow reach excuse me.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: I always pictured chief when I was reading about him even when I was playing as I'm like I feel like I should be running.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I could see this dude sprinting down the field.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: But I think there's always a silver lining and sure enough they're doing it.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: Sprint can be turned off.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: Sprint can be completely turned off.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: You don't need to have it on to enjoy this experience.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's great because I think if people don't like something, something so simple like that, there should be a toggle for it.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost like when people say, oh, the shiny hunting, like when you shiny hunt Pokemon, there shouldn't be a shiny, like a sound effect, like fuck you.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: I want that sound effect.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: However, they should be able to turn off if they really don't want it.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's just like the best answer to that side of the community is just there's a toggle for it Turn it off if you don't like it turn off.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: There's like the HUD looks weird But apparently you can completely customize the HUD to make it look more like the original I think that was kind of like a weird decision to me personally, but again just like the sprint conversation.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: I can change it.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't really care
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: Um, one of the interesting pieces of this because it did unfortunately happen on combat of all the adversaries.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people are saying like the Halo Infinite assets are being used and if you don't know what I'm saying, that means some of the enemies and weapons and stuff you saw in Halo Infinite, they all look the same here in campaign evolved.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I do wish they took the time to kind of make it look even more like Halo 1 or like maybe Halo 2, you know stuff.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see what happens.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: The Wardhog looks brand new.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: The Marines look like they're from Halo Infinite so I do I do like my combat of all Marines I'm a little bias there So if we can get a couple of the guys with a green little HUD visor thing on their helmet that'd be sick The Wardhog looks amazing all the weapons it look great.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Like um Was it the muzzle flare or whatever when you're shooting again?
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think the assault rifle can have it a little bit bigger
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: But that, oh, speaking of the assault rifle, oh my god, it's a 60-round mag in the original game, and now they made it like the 32-round mag that's traditionally used in the current Halo games, and they are fucking losing their mind over that, and I think it's crazy, because like, I actually went back and played Silent Critographer on Legendary with the 60-round mag, obviously, a assault rifle, I'm not playing with any mods.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the gun sucks, the gun is so shitty, yeah, I could take out a couple grunts with one mag, but so coming to the 32 round mag is all right, but it's also just a little bit more powerful with arm penetration on the shields and what looks like to be the campaign of all remastered.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like if it made more sense to balance the gun this way, then why not do it?
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like why are we, why are we bitching about that?
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like there's some things we as a society Like what we choose to like stand our ground on is like like really we're gonna go to the bat for that and I think it's 60 round mag versus 32 In terms of gameplay and like balancing out the game is like crazy as shit because this 60 round mag is a rifle sucks It is sucks so bad and multiplayer too.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's not that great.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't feel great
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: And this is coming from somebody who, like, I think the Halo is sorry for was one of the most beautifully designed guns ever.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's my personal favorite Halo gun when the Halo 3 reveal trailer came out and Chief walked through that desert, pulling out the assault rifle, because it wasn't in Halo 2 if you didn't know.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: It was, it was something to be hold and I loved it so much.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: I guess my problem is the discourse around this campaign of all remake.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: you're not happy with the new halos you want the old halos they're bringing back an old halo when we already know that there's other projects that they're working on so it's like okay if it doesn't have multiplayer it's because they're working on the project that has multiplayer this is to introduce fans to a whole like a whole new generation of fans
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: the the game that started it all in terms of campaign.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think it's great and then there's a rumor going around that they could be doing Halo 2 and 3 like this.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't agree more.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: This should definitely be the standard.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Capcom did it with Resident Evil.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: and i am still blown away by what they've done and i think if we can get a slam done with halo one you know being remade like this you know i think i think it's great i think we're better off you know oblivion just got remastered and while it definitely has its issues unfortunately but doesn't what's up
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's incredible.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: I absolutely love playing that game.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe how beautiful it looks.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a fun trip down memory lane that I definitely enjoyed a lot and I would tell anyone to please go check out.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, I don't know, I think we really need to pick a lane as a fan base and come together.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: And be happy about this, but also be realistic about it, right?
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's definitely fair critiques out there.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: What's the price point of this game?
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: Is it gonna be 70 bucks or is it gonna be 50 bucks?
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's gonna have four player co-op.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna have nine new guns.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna have vehicles that you were never able to get in It's gonna have three prequel missions that feature Master Chief in Sergeant Johnson and Like how they got to know each other and how they built that relationship, which I think isn't credible
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: So here we go again with content being added to this, whereas oblivion besides the DLC that you could have the upgrade or whatever, there's no added content.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: This is just combat evolved.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, campaign evolved with extra stuff like apparently there's over like two or three dozen skulls which is way more than they've ever had before that can completely change the way you play the game
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think if it's 50 bucks or 60 bucks, I think that's perfectly fine.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: As far as multiplayer goes, I do understand a lot of people's upset.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_01]: Being upset about that, there are a Halo World Championship for Halo Infinite, the last one for Halo Infinite.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: You're at a place with a ton of multiplayer fans and campaigns, always been every Halo fans, like main sticking point, which I think is great.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a lot of multiplayer fans there.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: So why wouldn't you at least like announce the project that contains the next multiplayer that all these fans including myself get to enjoy?
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I couldn't agree with a lot of people.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: I can't agree more with a lot of people.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's so stupid, to not announce it at least or tease it and something.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: Cause I really do feel like that was just like a big misstep
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I don't know.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think what's going on right now in the Halo community is really sad.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of people being so upset about this is just fucking crazy because it's like, okay, again, you don't like it new.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: You don't like it old.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like what do you want?
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think this is a great way to bring in the PlayStation fans.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's cross play with four player co-op for the first time ever.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: We can all play together and join it.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: it's a great way to relaunch a franchise.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm personally like really happy about it.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: I just need it to be good.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's like the most frustrating part.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, we'll see.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: It will see, because it's definitely not without its issues, but I don't think the game is nearly as much of a problem as everyone else is trying to make it out to be.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, if you could, give the game a chance.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: If there's, I don't know why they didn't give us the sign of your talk for beta, but whatever.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll see.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: I just wanted to hop on here real quick and talk about Halo because I feel like we can do better as a fan base and I think we definitely deserve better.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see what this expanded content looks like.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I get to have fun playing this campaign with new weapons.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the battle rifle is going to be in it.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: We can grab the energy sword finally and the fuel rod cannon.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I'm like, I'm like really excited to see this.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: I Just hope I'm not wrong.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think we deserve this win as a fan base again, and I'm excited to see what Halo 7 or whatever project they have in motion looks like.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know, I think I think people need to Not be so fucking crazy online.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: Anyways, so that's my Halo rant.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know if it's much of a rant more than it is like a story telling of my experience with the franchise and what I think of it Um, I just wanted to go off the cuff and see what happens.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think when it came to the campaign of all they could have I really should have wrote down my arguments because I'm in to do this episode like two weeks ago when it was announced But here we are I just appreciate you all for listening if you made it this far you're a legend you're a wonderful human being
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: and I hope you're doing well.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you have a good day and I'll see you in the next episode.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, my name is Ryan and this is The Edge's first podcast.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: Have a good day.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: Bye.
