- 0:58Jennifer Johnson: First things first.
- 1:00Jennifer Johnson: What exactly do we mean by company culture?
- 1:03Jennifer Johnson: It's more than just casual Fridays or having a ping pong table in the break room.
- 1:07Jennifer Johnson: At its core, company culture is the set of shared beliefs and practices that shape how work gets done in an organization.
- 1:15Jennifer Johnson: It's really the personality of a company, and it influences everything from decision-making processes to how employees interact with each other and with customers.
- 1:26Jennifer Johnson: So why does company culture matter so much?
- 1:29Jennifer Johnson: Well, a strong, positive culture can have a profound impact on a company's success.
- 1:35Jennifer Johnson: Research has actually shown that companies with strong cultures see higher employee engagements and lower turnover rates, and even higher profitability.
- 1:45Jennifer Johnson: In my own experience, I have seen how a positive culture can change an entire business.
- 4:18Jennifer Johnson: When employees feel aligned with their company's values and their mission, they're more motivated to be creative and more likely to go the extra mile, not just for you, but for also your customers.
- 4:31Jennifer Johnson: So how do we build and maintain a strong culture?
- 4:35Jennifer Johnson: Well, it really starts at the top, and leadership needs to not just talk about values, but they need to embody them.
- 4:41Jennifer Johnson: So I have a few key strategies I have four that you can use that will help build that culture within your company.
- 4:49Jennifer Johnson: The first one is clear communication.
- 4:52Jennifer Johnson: You can regularly articulate your company's missions and your values with your employees.
- 4:57Jennifer Johnson: They can be brought up at every meeting.
- 4:59Jennifer Johnson: Touch on at least one of them every meeting so that your team knows what you stand for as a company.
- 5:05Jennifer Johnson: The second, I believe, is the most important, and that's leading by example, making sure that your leadership actions and the leadership actions of those at the top of the company align with what you say your company stands for.
- 5:23Jennifer Johnson: And then hire for a cultural fit.
- 5:25Jennifer Johnson: Look beyond skill when you're hiring somebody for a position.
- 5:29Jennifer Johnson: So maybe you are hiring for Technician ABC and Technician ABC comes along with a bunch of different certifications and things like that.
- 5:41Jennifer Johnson: But you have somebody who comes in and applies Maybe they don't have that certification.
- 5:46Jennifer Johnson: Is it something that you can send them to school to learn that certification?
- 5:52Jennifer Johnson: Because you really like their personality, you really like who they are.
- 5:55Jennifer Johnson: That's what we need to hire for.
- 5:58Jennifer Johnson: And then, finally, recognize and reward, celebrate employees who exemplify your cultural ideals.
- 6:04Jennifer Johnson: Did somebody go above and beyond and that's one of your company core values?
- 6:08Jennifer Johnson: Reward them with something little, whether that's a gift card somewhere you bake them a cake, you bake them cookies, whatever it is.
- 6:18Jennifer Johnson: Do what feels right to you, but celebrate that employee.
- 6:23Jennifer Johnson: Remember a strong company culture isn't just a nice to have, it's a must-have in today's business world.
- 6:30Jennifer Johnson: It's the invisible force that can drive your company to new heights of success and fulfillment.
- 6:35Jennifer Johnson: Whether you're just starting out thinking about culture within your company or you're looking to strengthen an existing one, I hope this discussion today gives you some food for thought.
