- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on everybody? Welcome into another edition of
- 0:12Speaker 1: the Checko Daily. It's Andrew dcheco here, Eagles beat reporter
- 0:16Speaker 1: for Inside the Birds dot Com. Hope everyone out there
- 0:19Speaker 1: is having a great weekend. But let's not waste any
- 0:22Speaker 1: time as we always do. Let's get right to the information.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And that is the Day three portion of the Checko
- 0:30Speaker 1: Madraft one point zero. I promised you that I would
- 0:33Speaker 1: deliver it in a two part podcast here and to
- 0:36Speaker 1: kind of recap where we are, I went with right
- 0:41Speaker 1: or I guess what you could call it, offensive tackle
- 0:43Speaker 1: Caden Proctor from Alabama on with the first round pick
- 0:47Speaker 1: pick number twenty three. In the second round at number
- 0:51Speaker 1: fifty four, had them going with wide receiver Omar Cooper
- 0:54Speaker 1: Junior out of Indiana, and in the first of the
- 0:59Speaker 1: two third round picks at pick sixty eight, Max Claire
- 1:02Speaker 1: tight end from Ohio State, and then rounding things out
- 1:05Speaker 1: at pick ninety eight, Danny Dennis Sutton edge rusher from
- 1:10Speaker 1: Penn State, enormous six foot five, two fifty five or thereabouts.
- 1:15Speaker 1: So they're all positions of need and they all happen to,
- 1:19Speaker 1: at least at the moment, coincide with where the Eagles
- 1:21Speaker 1: will be picking. You're always going to hear people who
- 1:23Speaker 1: are like, that's not gonna happen. They're not going to
- 1:25Speaker 1: be there. It's February first, right now, that's sort of
- 1:31Speaker 1: where they are. Obviously, stocks rise and fall throughout the
- 1:34Speaker 1: pre draft process, but the NFL scouting combine has not
- 1:37Speaker 1: even happened, so it's impossible to say that somebody won't
- 1:42Speaker 1: or will be there. I remember back to last season.
- 1:48Speaker 1: This is I don't know February or March, where I
- 1:51Speaker 1: had the Eagles taken Drew mcouba in the second round,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and all I got was a lot of comments saying,
- 1:58Speaker 1: there's never that's two where way too early for macouba.
- 2:02Speaker 1: He's not He's more of a third or a third
- 2:05Speaker 1: round pick. He's too small. You know that that's a reach.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Well that's where, that's where the Eagles took him. So
- 2:13Speaker 1: it just goes to show you, you know, when you
- 2:15Speaker 1: speak with such conviction, it's impossible to know. But that's
- 2:18Speaker 1: what makes these mock drafts fun. These exercises can go
- 2:22Speaker 1: a number of different ways, and you won't really know
- 2:25Speaker 1: until you get to the draft itself. But I do
- 2:28Speaker 1: talk to a lot of people. I do go to
- 2:30Speaker 1: the combine and I do go to pro days, so
- 2:33Speaker 1: I gather a lot of this information and it helps
- 2:35Speaker 1: me inform not just throw darts at the wall, but
- 2:38Speaker 1: maybe better inform my selections here. And so let's kick
- 2:44Speaker 1: things off with round four, pick number one, twenty two.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I went with cornerback Domani Jackson from Alabama. Obviously, the
- 2:52Speaker 1: Eagles have quint Down Mitchell and Cooper Degene, so they
- 2:54Speaker 1: would appear to be well stocked there, and they they
- 2:57Speaker 1: should be because the Eagles. Not many teams around the
- 3:01Speaker 1: NFL have two top end corners like the Eagles do.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But then you look at that second cornerback spot, and
- 3:08Speaker 1: it took a little bit of time, but a Dori
- 3:10Speaker 1: Jackson eventually settled in. I think it's worth re signing
- 3:15Speaker 1: adri Jackson to another one year deal, a modest deal
- 3:19Speaker 1: at that, and having him maybe be there in the
- 3:22Speaker 1: case of insurance, but also maybe be that Isaiah Rodgers
- 3:25Speaker 1: type of player where he can step in as that
- 3:27Speaker 1: first guy off the bench tons of experience. But the
- 3:30Speaker 1: Eagles do need to find a better answer there, and
- 3:33Speaker 1: I think obviously Keeley Ringo and Jacoreyan Bennett, they will
- 3:37Speaker 1: at least be back for training camp. But they've both
- 3:41Speaker 1: proven that they are not the answer. So where do
- 3:43Speaker 1: you turn. Well, you could you could draft a player
- 3:47Speaker 1: high of course that there's going to be some players
- 3:49Speaker 1: that would work in the first or second round, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: then you count on defensive backs coach Joe Casper to
- 3:55Speaker 1: develop them, or maybe you sign someone with a little
- 3:58Speaker 1: bit more upside and free to see that can help
- 4:01Speaker 1: you right now. But I have the Eagles swinging for
- 4:05Speaker 1: developmental player with a lot of upside in Demani Jackson
- 4:10Speaker 1: six foot one, one hundred and ninety seven pounds. He
- 4:12Speaker 1: does have the appeal due to the blistering speed and
- 4:15Speaker 1: ability to physically challenge receivers to the line of scrimmage.
- 4:19Speaker 1: To like his ability to attack the catch point and
- 4:23Speaker 1: fight through the reception. His college career began at USC
- 4:26Speaker 1: but Jackson spent his final two seasons playing for the
- 4:29Speaker 1: Crimson Tie, collecting a pair of interceptions and eight passes
- 4:33Speaker 1: defended over his twenty eight games in Tuscaloosa. There are
- 4:37Speaker 1: some durability concerns. I believe he had a knee injury
- 4:40Speaker 1: his final year in high school and he's been banged
- 4:43Speaker 1: up throughout his college career. But when you're looking at
- 4:46Speaker 1: that kind of frame, with that kind of physicality and
- 4:49Speaker 1: that speed, he runs sub four to three. From my understanding,
- 4:53Speaker 1: those are qualities that you can certainly work with in shape.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And if you're taking a corner in the fourth round,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and in this case, I have them taking a cornerback
- 5:01Speaker 1: at the fourth round, you want to get somebody that
- 5:03Speaker 1: has a lot of traits and characteristics that you can
- 5:08Speaker 1: mold into potentially being a starter with some upside or
- 5:13Speaker 1: some growth potential. So that's that's where I went with that.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I would I would say that the cornerback position's pretty
- 5:20Speaker 1: deep in this year's class, which is good comparatively, the
- 5:24Speaker 1: tight end position is not deep in this class, which
- 5:27Speaker 1: is why I had them going with Max Claire at
- 5:30Speaker 1: pick sixty eight out of Ohio State. Not waiting to
- 5:32Speaker 1: take a flyer on a player that has flashed a
- 5:36Speaker 1: little bit at the college level. Leagles need a bona
- 5:41Speaker 1: fide frontline player that can take over for the post
- 5:45Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard era, whenever that may be. In the fourth
- 5:51Speaker 1: round pick number one point thirty seven, I went with
- 5:55Speaker 1: Michael Tafe, safety from Texas. The Eagles are thin at
- 6:00Speaker 1: the safety position. Look complicating matters. Red blanket Ship is
- 6:05Speaker 1: a homegrown success story and he's said to become a
- 6:07Speaker 1: free agent, and I think he's going to garner some
- 6:11Speaker 1: interest around the league. And Drew mccooba had notable signs
- 6:14Speaker 1: of development as the season wore on there, and he's
- 6:17Speaker 1: going to be returning from a season ending ankle fracture.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And then you have Sidney Brown, who was a twenty
- 6:23Speaker 1: twenty three third round pick. He didn't exactly run with
- 6:26Speaker 1: the opportunities that he's been given. He's a box safety
- 6:29Speaker 1: that doesn't fit within the structure of this defense based
- 6:32Speaker 1: on what they need him to be able to do.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And so I look at Tafe six foot, one hundred
- 6:40Speaker 1: and eighty nine pounds, he was a one time walk
- 6:42Speaker 1: on for the Longhorns, who offers experience fifty three games,
- 6:46Speaker 1: thirty six starts, and plus ball skills. He also covers
- 6:49Speaker 1: a ton of ground for the position, which is arguably
- 6:52Speaker 1: a necessity in the modern era. And perhaps more important, guys,
- 6:55Speaker 1: is that, especially in a fit Veanjo scheme, it would
- 6:59Speaker 1: be that he possesses a high level football IQ intangibles
- 7:03Speaker 1: that both blanket Ship and Macouba also share that could
- 7:07Speaker 1: go a long way. I do view him as being
- 7:09Speaker 1: someone who could step in and help on special teams.
- 7:12Speaker 1: For those wondering and want to look him up, that
- 7:14Speaker 1: his last name is spelled taa ffe and he is
- 7:19Speaker 1: from the University of Texas. I like his game quite
- 7:22Speaker 1: a bit. He has really good range for the position,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and the Eagles obviously need to stockpile that position. They
- 7:28Speaker 1: were very lean there and it kind of reminds me
- 7:30Speaker 1: a little bit of edge thrusher in that way. In
- 7:34Speaker 1: the fifth round, pick number one fifty one, I have
- 7:36Speaker 1: them going with Bryce Foster, a center from Kansas. The
- 7:41Speaker 1: Eagles could use more interior depth along the offensive line.
- 7:44Speaker 1: The pool of depth there is relatively shallow, and for perspective,
- 7:50Speaker 1: the only reserve holdovers are Drew Kendall, Willie Lampkin, and
- 7:53Speaker 1: Jake Majors. Jake Majors was a reserve future signing who
- 7:57Speaker 1: spent most of the season on the Eagles practice squad.
- 8:00Speaker 1: And then you have Brettoa, who perform very well last
- 8:02Speaker 1: season when pressed at the service and he's going to
- 8:04Speaker 1: hit free agency. But of that group that I mentioned,
- 8:08Speaker 1: not counting Brettoath obviously Drew Kendall is the only one
- 8:12Speaker 1: who could moonlight a guard. I think Lampkin and Major's
- 8:14Speaker 1: profile more as centers. But to be clear, Foster, he's
- 8:18Speaker 1: six foot five, three hundred and ten pounds. He enjoyed
- 8:21Speaker 1: a decorated career at center for the Jayhawks, but he
- 8:23Speaker 1: does have an athletic skill set and frame that suggests
- 8:28Speaker 1: he could offer guard versatility. He's athletic, he's a fluid
- 8:31Speaker 1: mover with adequate play strength, and he would give offensive
- 8:34Speaker 1: line coach Jeff Style in another young prospect to shape.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I think that that would be a really good swing
- 8:40Speaker 1: in the fifth round. A lot of experience, and I
- 8:43Speaker 1: mentioned six three hundred and ten pounds, that's not your
- 8:46Speaker 1: prototypical center size, and I think that that athleticism and
- 8:49Speaker 1: ability to get to the second level and do some
- 8:53Speaker 1: of those things that Jeff Style and typically commands from
- 8:56Speaker 1: his lineman suggests that he may offer positional versatility.
- 9:00Speaker 2: It's that time of the year that everyone's trying to

- 12:11Speaker 3: experience made for Philly fans. Twenty one and up.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Rounding things out here in round five, pick number one,
- 12:23Speaker 1: seventy nine, I have the Eagles going with Cole Peyton,
- 12:28Speaker 1: quarterback from North Dakota State. The Kyle McCord experience was
- 12:31Speaker 1: short lived, but the the quarterback factory churn's on here
- 12:37Speaker 1: in Philadelphia. Kyle McCord signed a reserve future deal with
- 12:41Speaker 1: the Packers this offseason. He spent the twenty twenty five
- 12:44Speaker 1: season on the Eagles practice squad. The Eagles drafted him
- 12:46Speaker 1: in the sixth round last year out of Syracuse that
- 12:48Speaker 1: he didn't make the team obviously, but in Peyton, who's
- 12:51Speaker 1: six foot three, two hundred and thirty three pounds, the
- 12:54Speaker 1: Eagles will be getting a tough, dual threat quarterback with
- 12:56Speaker 1: intriguing arm talent. He didn't become a full starter evident.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Last season he was a fifth year senior, passed for
- 13:02Speaker 1: two seven hundred nineteen yards, sixteen touchdowns and four interceptions,
- 13:08Speaker 1: but he also averaged five point seven yards per carrie.
- 13:10Speaker 1: He's raw, undoubtedly, but he moves really well. He has
- 13:15Speaker 1: the arm. He's played at a college program that has
- 13:19Speaker 1: the expectations of winning year in and year out, so
- 13:22Speaker 1: that should help. I think he has a live arm
- 13:24Speaker 1: and is as qualities that are worth developing. And he's
- 13:28Speaker 1: going to enter the league with a minimal sample size
- 13:30Speaker 1: and he's fairly raw, but he does have tools that
- 13:33Speaker 1: are worth developing. Who is the quarterback coach this season
- 13:36Speaker 1: remains to be determined. Could it be Scott Leffler, could
- 13:39Speaker 1: it be someone else. But I think when you draft
- 13:41Speaker 1: somebody like this on Day three. You're getting somebody who
- 13:45Speaker 1: does have some qualities. You bring him into the fold
- 13:47Speaker 1: on the practice field during the season, and you don't
- 13:50Speaker 1: have to drastically alter the offense because he could do
- 13:53Speaker 1: some similar things from a movement perspective. And I do
- 13:57Speaker 1: think that he has some untapped potential. So we'll have
- 14:00Speaker 1: to wait and see. I know that there are some
- 14:02Speaker 1: who may be of the belief that they don't want
- 14:03Speaker 1: to see the Eagles go back to the Day three
- 14:07Speaker 1: well where they're taking a quarterback, and that it might
- 14:10Speaker 1: be better serve drafting another position. Well that's fine, you
- 14:14Speaker 1: may think that, but the Eagles have a pretty extensive
- 14:19Speaker 1: track record of wanting to continue to find the next
- 14:23Speaker 1: developmental arm and look for that cost effective backup at
- 14:28Speaker 1: that position. And so I try to put you know,
- 14:33Speaker 1: I try to put this exercise in a perspective and
- 14:36Speaker 1: look through the eyes of how Howie Roseman typically does business.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And so that's the way that I saw it. There's
- 14:43Speaker 1: always so many draft selections, there's always so many there's
- 14:47Speaker 1: so many areas of need. But I do think that
- 14:49Speaker 1: based off of previous track record, that you would assume
- 14:53Speaker 1: that the Eagles would look to draft a quarterback at
- 14:55Speaker 1: some point and then develop them and then hopefully if
- 14:58Speaker 1: everything pans out all of a sudden, have a cost
- 15:01Speaker 1: effective backup. Well, that's gonna do it. For this edition
- 15:05Speaker 1: of The Checko Daily, I'm Andrew Dcheco and I'll catch
- 15:08Speaker 1: you all on the next one.
